House joining us NBA Champion from NBC Sports Boston and
we will talk to him in about thirty minutes, so
(01:40):
keeping locked for that. But in the meantime, it is
Rob and me, Rob Parker, what's up man, what's happening?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Mister Christmas? Rob Parker? I'm good. Like the baseball cap.
I haven't seen you in a cap in a while.
That's the SCSU owls. It's pretty nice, oh, SCSU Southern
Connecticut Congregations for Academy.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
That is not why you ripping my school, Southern Connecticut
State University and New Haven, Connecticut.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
I repped my school. I mean you proudly repped Columbia lot.
I don't hear you say too much about the owl.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
So our, proud, my our.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
All the people out there from Connecticut, they're like there
it is loud and proud on TV.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
That's good man. Well, we got a great show playing Rob.
Great game to night too.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
I can't wait Minnesota Denver Game six, must win, absolute
must win for Minnesota or it will be one of
the you know, uh just collapse. I mean, wive this happened.
We've seen this happen.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
What will it be?
Speaker 4 (02:53):
It'll be like I'm just gonna say it would be.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
I wouldn't say strange. I was gonna say. I was
looking for the word to say, some type of collapse that.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
We've seen recently. We've seen these happen before, you know,
teams have gone down two. Oh. I mean we just
saw Phoenix, you know, a couple of years ago in
the finals, but this one was even different from that
because they had won two games on the road and
looks so impressive doing it.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
That's the part that got people, I think will re
look at this team and see what happened.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yeah, and so it was a total shift in the series,
and it was it was just an odd series initially
with you know, the two games, the four first four
games a home team did not win. And so we'll
see that flipped on in game five when Denver won
in Colorado. We'll see if Minnesota can keep that trend
going by winning at home.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
I don't feel good about Minnesota at all. I got
them in seven. I'm sticking with it, and uh, they
just better.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
I hope they got the faith, because that's you know,
Draymond Green said, they don't have. They lost their belief,
and so people we are we're talking to Antonio last night.
Antonio Daniels, he said he felt like Anthony Edwards giving
jokicch his props as the best player in the world
before the tournament was over was kind of a sign
(04:13):
too of surrender.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
So we'll see.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
We'll see how they play tonight, but should be a
good game nonetheless, all right.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
The couple crews in full effect.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
The super producer Rob g is in the house on
the ones and twoes look great. DJ Alex Tyser aka
Alex the Vegan. Of course, our number three is Tyser's
Tower of Trivia.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
That is low Kim Way, You're so good at that game,
and just you know, every time we play it, I
just feel like how blessed and lucky I am to
be on this radio.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Thank you, Ron, thank you. I just couldn't have asked
for about that. And the fact that you cheat means much.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
But the only day you're in the studio this Thursday,
so you can you know, tex Steam, so you can
hold up signs, so you can do your charade company,
your verbal clues.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
I'm just sitting here with all I got is words,
but I want you to and I still win half
the time. I'm taking a job coaching in.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Guam, but I'll be here on Thursdays for thank you,
because I need to be able to see you so
all the other times.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
I appreciate you because I love our lunch dates on
the updates.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Always professional, Steve to say, social media always wow.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Social media.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Elijah Steve is the best update anchor I've ever heard
on radio.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
All right, Rob, let's get to this here, because you
have a strong take. You feel like yesterday you talked
about you felt like there was a lot of disrespect
out there for Nicola Jokic, and now you're extending it
to where you feel like there's a lot of disrespect
of international players in general.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Brent, rob G.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
There have been a few statements made by American players
and X players recently. Can you kind of run down
a few things so just to give the audience some context.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Absolutely, so.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
I think it all started, at least to my knowledge,
publicly a couple of years ago, when James Harden was
in the thick of the MVP race with the Houston
Rockets and he was going head to head with Giannis
out the Gumbo, and you recall, thank you, you recall
that James Harden was not feeling the idea of the
Greek freak being named the MVP over him. Here's that
(06:27):
viral comment from James Harden back in the day.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
When it's all said and done, you know, they'll appreciate
it more, you know. But I wish I could just
run running with seven feet and run and just dump
like that. Takes no skill at all. I got to
actually learn how to play basketball and how to have skill,
you know. I take that in your day.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
I don't know if that was based on Janni's being
you know, international player, you know what I mean it was.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
I think it was based on his style of play
and Harden and that's fair.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
Okay, well, but let me let me hear you defend
this next one, though, Chris, because it's only gets worse
from there.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
I know that they've been this is so I'm not
I'm just saying that particular.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Sure, so uh that one? That one that's.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Yeah, it does and only from this standpoint, and we'll
go forward. I don't want to get too bogged down,
but I think it's easier for these ex players to
rip on people who are not from here, like like
to just rip on them where they don't do that
to play from the United States.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
That's that's all about.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
Would you have said that when he said something like
that about Shot Nope, check, he wouldn't.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
He wouldn't do that. Will do as much.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
As Giannis as far as there you go, there you go, Chris,
and nobody would say that about.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Shot about that's fair. Go ahead, right, So we flashed
forward up to last year.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
You had Kendrick Perkins famously say that Yogis not only
was the stat adding, but he was only getting m
v P love because he was white. We're gonna choose
not to play that one because that was a little
bit too off color.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Was that in? That was white America? I mean, I
don't know so well.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
There aren't any white guys from America right any MVP.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
That's the problem.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
But Gilbert Arenez has taken the toys from Kendrick Perkins
and he's been really going heavy on Nikolae Jokic, including
a couple of weeks ago where he suggested that Joker
would be the worst MVP the NBA has ever seen.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
They listen.
Speaker 7 (08:20):
Serious, now, I do understand when they say this about Jokic.
Jokic is probably, statistically when it comes to overall game,
the worst MVP winner.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
He's the worst MVP winner the last forty years.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Why do you say that when you're talking about.
Speaker 7 (08:41):
MVP the guys outside of first and second place, their
teams was first and second place. The people who won
the MVP, their teams was first and second.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
Okay, I will say, and I'm not trying to again
defend Gilbert uh Arenas, but I want is he if
he's saying worse in terms of your seeding, because before
it's true that Yoka's first two championships, I'm sorry MVPs,
(09:15):
they didn't win fifty games, and it's rare for a
player to win the MVP without fifty wins. One of
them was the strike short or the pandemic shortened season,
so that kind of thrown out. But the other one
was not fifty wins, and one of his first two
MVPs was as a sixth seed. He's talking about No,
this was before Yokis won it. No, but he's talking
(09:37):
about this one, Chris. But rob My point Arenas's comment
was made before Yokis was naming.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Nobody was saying it was.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
It was in the if he's going to be But
I'm just telling him what I'm just saying.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
He in that quote that we just heard.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
He referenced, uh the seating of the past, and he
referenced the the fifty wins.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Did he or now they won fifty seven games this year?
This year? Nobody but the first two he did.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
I'm just saying, I'm not trying to defend him, because
Jokic is nasty. He is a phenomenal player. All I'm
trying to say is was Gilbert. I don't know if
he was saying he's the worst MVP as far as
he's just not as good of a player as the
rest of them, or if he was one of the
few to win it as a sixty. The only other
(10:30):
six seed I know in the last since nineteen eighty
and writers have been voting to win the MVP eighty
one nineteen eighty one was Russell Westbrook when he did
it with a triple double. That's the only other six
seed that I can recall winning the MVP.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
So I'm just saying it's possible. He meant that, but
go ahead, that is possible.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
He also said earlier this week that if we take
away the assists, then Yogic's numbers are not that great.
But last one and this is probably the most prevalent
because it's been going on all week. If you've been
watching Inside the NBA, Draymond Greene's been filling in doing
an admirable job, but he can't seem to stop taking
shots at Rudy Gobert.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Here's one of the things he said, this.
Speaker 8 (11:10):
Series ain't coming back to Minnesota. Number one. The big
Frenchman is sitting on that podium speaking his native language.
We need to do this. You you, you need to
get a stop. It ain't we. Carl Anthony Towns is
actually doing a pretty good job when he's o joker.
It's you, my man, that's getting cooked.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
So it's no we.
Speaker 8 (11:28):
Now, yes, you do need help from the other.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Guys, but on some of those help can't help you.
Speaker 8 (11:34):
Like you just got to get a stop.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
It's been worse. It's just every circumstance he has a
chance to get a dig in. That's where Chris, where
you're too close to it, Like you can't be honest
because Rudy Gobert wins Defensive Player of the Year, is
that you also have won and you want to win.
So I think every dig and it doesn't mean he
can't criticize him, but I do think he's taking it
(11:57):
too far anyway, I don't want to be too long winded, Chris.
I do believe that players in the NBA, former players
in the NBA feel that they can, but they feel
like they can rip on the European players because they're
not gonna push back. They're not going to be confrontational.
They would not do this to other black players in
(12:20):
the league. That's just my gut feeling that they would
have never yeah black American players that they would Joanness,
what is is gonna do?
Speaker 3 (12:28):
That's just not his makeup.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Chris the Joker shack says to his face, you're not
gonna you didn't deserve the MVP.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
He wouldn't do that if it was some other I
just don't.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Believe it in my heart, and I don't have any proof,
but I don't believe that they would call these guys out.
And I do believe there's a and they better get
ready because winby Chris, as you know, is the next
hotness and he ain't from the United States. But I
do think that there's a wave of anti foreign players
(13:01):
that is going on because they're winning the awards and
they're playing at a high level and I.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Think it's I think it's disgraceful.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
I think they should understand how hard it is to
play this game and don't try to beat down people
who are excelling at it.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
They're doing great stuff, that's all.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
I don't disagree with what you've said, and I think
there is some jealousy because these dudes are Let's just
face it, guys, right now, the best players in the
world are not from America playing the city now. Overall,
if you want to go fifty deep, you want to
go twenty five deep, you wanna go fifty deep, you
wanna go one hundred deep. Sure, we got the best,
(13:39):
you know, the majority of the better players, but the
absolute elite level, the top five.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
We got Carry Kittles on the show What's that Hour Today?
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Yeah, and Carry and I were texting earlier in the
day and he sent me, I can find it. He
sent me his top six players, and I'm I'm his
top six players right now in the NBA here it
is Joker, Luca and man Mba, Shaye Giannis. Six are international,
(14:14):
right and and and then the next group is saying
his rounding out his top ten, Rob Lebron, Durant, Curry,
and Jason Tatum, Lebron Durant Curry are gonna be retiring
in a few so where and you said Wimby, Wimby
is gonna be this list. I mean Wimby next year
might be top five. I think he'll definitely be top ten.
(14:37):
And so I would I agree with you, Rob, I
do think. Look, they better not mess up and think
these international dudes aren't as tough, cause you know, they
just are soft spoken and they're in a different country
and they might write, they might not want to come
out here and just act the fool. But don't think
(15:02):
that some of these dudes can't knock you out, just
like an American could knock you out. Secondly, and I
think the more important point, Rob, is it's probably some
jealousy because they are they are taking over, and like
you know, we have felt like this is our game,
(15:23):
Black Americans, this is our game. And now you see,
the best player in the world is a slow white
dude that can't jump, and he's the best player in
the world.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
By a nice margin.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
And then you got Luca who's kind of a slow
white dude who can't jump, and he might be the
second best player in the world. So I think there.
I think there's some jealousy there. Rob, I think there is.
So I don't disagree.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
All right, Uh, you know what we need to do?
Play better.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Let's let's play better at the younger ages and and
really learn the skills as Harden was referring to skills,
because that's what yoki ja luka haf eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox, you're turning the way in on
our American players, disrespecting the international guys.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
And if so, why your thoughts? Next? A Couple? Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple

nine on Fox. Are American players disrespect the international players
in the NBA?
Speaker 3 (17:25):
And if so, why? All right?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Chris, let's kick it off with Tim Chili. Tim in Atlanta,
You're on the odd couple on the TV theme So on.
Speaker 10 (17:34):
Thursday, what up?
Speaker 3 (17:37):
How you? What's up now? How you doing?
Speaker 10 (17:39):
I'm doing great, man, doing great. I think there is
a lot of jealousy among the the hypocrisy of some
of these dudes because they don't even want to be
criticized and tails, but they have no problem.
Speaker 11 (17:52):
Thank you, thank you man.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
It is crazy right right or on their podcast right
and that's fine, but don't get mad at us when
we do.
Speaker 10 (18:01):
Exactly, exactly exactly, And if they really think about, like
these guys like grew up in Serbia and Sloveni in
these places like that, these guys grew up in war
torn countries.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Man with nothing, with nothing, Tim with nothing. Tim.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
In nineteen ninety six, Larry Brown told me at the
Chicago pre draft camp. We were talking the great Larry
Brown head coach. He said, the next great basketball hotbed
is gonna be Eastern Europe, he said, because over there
they're playing for survivor. They're trying to get out of
it like the it used to be in the hood here.
(18:40):
I thought, okay, yeah, right, but he's been he's been
right on the money.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Yep, thanks Tim, appreciation. You've been to Serbia, rob and
war torn.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
I mean you literally see buildings that have been blast
last night through like walking through the town. I think
that's in Belgrade. They're not rebuilding, they're not no, no,
I mean some of it is, but not. There's a
lot of that aren't.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
How about Jerry in Delaware, you're in the odd couple
of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
What's up, Jerry?
Speaker 12 (19:07):
Hey, what's up Christmas, Rob.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
How are you? What's up?
Speaker 6 (19:09):
Man?
Speaker 12 (19:10):
I'm good man.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Listen.
Speaker 12 (19:13):
I often feel like, you know, n big players like Man,
I feel like they're gonna step it up most entirely.
I mean, can you imagine like that we're playing all
the overseer guys over at Ruggess Park, Like, can you
imagine the people you know all this being like yo,
man stumping up, step up the defense. Man. I'm not
feel like we don't get enough. We don't don't get
(19:33):
enough pressure on us anymore.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Well, look, I think if you're great in America at fifteen,
let's just face it, a lot of not all I'm
not gonna say everybody, but a lot of our young
great players in high school rober that age.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
They feeling themselves. They're full of themselves.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
It's super yeah, And you do you kind of get
on people's nerves if you're that arrogant. And you see
these dudes, yo, catch Yannis. And when they were fit
team not ebid. He wasn't playing even but they were
being humbled every day in practice, getting schooled by older dudes,
and the coach was yelling at him and working them hard.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
And here that's a big part don't have that now, Chris.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
If if the coach don't let them sherry pick and
score one hundred points, they want to get rid of
the coach, We'll go to another team. Yeah, Fernando in Texas,
you're in the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Fernando?
Speaker 12 (20:25):
Hey, how are you parking?
Speaker 11 (20:26):
Christmas?
Speaker 13 (20:27):
How are you doing good at the excellent topic that
you're dissecting and called in since the year of the pandemic?
Speaker 1 (20:35):
You know what I want to say this, Chris and
I are always looking to try to dig a little
deeper some time. You probably haven't heard this topic on
any other talk show.
Speaker 13 (20:44):
Oh no, no, Adam and Jack that it's another talk
So it's not just patronizing as a true journalist and
the others. You know that that uh network that's uh
more about than reporting us think it was about the topic.
It's just typical another I'm not trying to compare it
(21:06):
to some of the darker chapters in American history, but
it's just some of the tendencies that are you know,
a big, less serious situation like where immigrants are being
abilified and more worse than that, I'm an immigrant for
making cool, right and this our experience in the United States.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
It's but it's always and obviously it's just sports, and
thankfully it hasn't gotten to any type of level life.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
But I know what he's talking about.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
I mean, it's it's easier to pick on Chris people
who aren't from somewhere. It's just it just ish or
to blame a certain group of people. We know in
American history, whenever they wanted to blame people right for
doing bad things, they would put on feathers and war
pain and say the Native Americans they did it.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
You know what I mean. I'm not going to co
sign that that is gone that far.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
I'm just saying, you know what I mean, these guys
are just I think I think it's easy. They're just
easier targets because they're not going to push back and
they know that.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
Yeah, yeah, all right.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
I mean we used to think that, you know, all
the great heavyweight champions was gonna be black, and now
look at it, Tyson Fury and and.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
He's fighting. You say, Jake Paul, Well, he about to
get knocked out.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
He's knocked all right, He's going to set the culture
back when he knocks out Mike.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
He does, I'm telling hopefully not.
Speaker 2 (22:39):

Speaker 3 (22:58):
We welcome in our man Eddie House House. What's happening?
Speaker 11 (23:02):
What's happening?
Speaker 12 (23:03):
Man?
Speaker 11 (23:03):
Good Thursday. Brothers.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Hey, the last time we talked to you, you were
telling us that the uh that the Nuggets were gonna
get swept or you don't be surprised if they got swept.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Those were your exact words.
Speaker 11 (23:17):
That is what I said.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
And how surprised are you where they are now?
Speaker 11 (23:22):
Super surprised? There was a total one to eighty of
the team that I seen before, you know, those two games.
You know, we go on a day to day basis.
We evaluate whatever we could evaluate. Now, I'm not I
can't predict the future. I'm not cleo. I cannot do that.
So what I'm saying is when the information that I
had gathered, I wouldn't be surprised at that point after
(23:45):
what I seen if they got swept. But they have
turned it around, totally turned it around. Jokic is back
to being the Yokis that he is, Jamal Murray is
going crazy, and so I am surprised that that turn
around happened this way to where it could be four straight.
I didn't think four straight after seeing game three, you know,
(24:07):
but in game four, but right now, I mean, they
got all the momentum, man, And you know how it is.
It's a fickles. The game is fickle. All games are fickle, man.
It's about momentum and who has it on their side.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Let me let me ask you this. Let me just
one follow Chris.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
If it's over and Denver does win and it's four
games in a row, whatever is that going to tell
you about the greatness of Denver?
Speaker 3 (24:29):
Or will that tell you about.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Maybe the inexperience or maybe not mature enough or not
ready Timberwolves?
Speaker 3 (24:36):
What will you draw from it?
Speaker 1 (24:38):
If it is four games in a row after being
down oh too at home?
Speaker 11 (24:43):
Both of those could be true.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
What were you thinking? More? I got you.
Speaker 11 (24:47):
I think it will be a combination of both. I
think it'd be a combination of a man you know,
sometimes happen to go through it all all the great.
All of the guys that end up winning it, they
have to go through it at some point, whether it
be the first round, second round, getting swept in certain series,
or getting to the conference finals and losing, or getting
to the finals and losing to finally get over that hump.
(25:09):
So I think that it would be a combination of both.
You would look at a team that responded to their
coach when he called them out. Their stars are showing
up because in the playoffs, the stars as will win it.
Role Players are going to help you games here and there,
but your stars got to be carrying you and the
role players can put you over the top every once
and again, if that makes sense. So I think it
(25:30):
will be a combination of both. You know, and I'm
not stradling the fence or you know, none of that.
I just think two things could be true at once.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
At the same time, Eddie Draymond Green said that Rudy
go not Rudy Gobert, Karl Anthony towns limping after the game. Look,
the dude played thirty eight minutes. I didn't see a
limp for most of that thirty eight minutes. But after
the game he was limping back to the locker room,
and some have even felt like Anthony Edwards' comments about
(26:00):
Jokic being the best player in the world, saying that
before a series was over that they've suggested or said
outright that those are signs that they've kind of surrendered,
like they know they're beaten. I'm hoping that's not the case.
I'm still pulling for Minnesota to win this thing. But
do you think that is the case?
Speaker 11 (26:21):
No, I don't think it's the case. I think Anthony Edwards,
you know, he just he can't miss you love every
interview that he gives, every time that he's on the
podium or anything that he has to say. He can't
say anything wrong. And he's not wrong by saying they
got the best player in the world. He won the
MVP and what is it, two out of three years
was the MVP and everybody, everybody agrees to the fact.
(26:43):
It's not like he said something that was out of pocket.
He said something that is consensus that everybody around this play. Okay,
let me ask you this, Chris, who's the best player
in the world.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Yeah, but Rob who's the best player in the merriage?
But there's some people believe that you don't need to
say that until after you're done competing with them. That's
all I agree, not saying anything that's crazy.
Speaker 11 (27:06):
Yeah, I don't think that that. I don't think that's
wrong by acknowledging what you don't say. If somebody asked
you that and you say it, then at the end
of the day, it's like, Okay, well you didn't say
it because you're still in the series. No, he is
the best. Everybody knows this. We know that, we know
that we got a.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
Guy and Eddie, you know, I mean being there in Boston.
Larry Bird said that, and I think that was even
maybe unsolicited. He said Michael Jordan was God disguised as
Michael Jordan, and that series was not over.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Now they swept them, Boston swept Chicago.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
But still but but Eddie, let's go put this real quick.
Speaker 11 (27:41):
Listen to this. When we played in two thousand and
when won a championship, we played Cleveland in the semi finals, right,
and Doc Rivers said, they have the best player in
all locker rooms. They have the best player in the world.
We're gonna have to go through them if we're gonna
win the championships. Now, did say we conceded the series, right,
we recognized it lebron player in the world. We gotta
(28:01):
get to him. There's nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
Nah with you you Rob and I before you came on,
we were talking about there seems to beat.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
There's been this disrespect kind.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Of coming from some of the American current and former
players toward the international guys. Gilbert Areena is kind of
saying nature band the European players, I think maybe a
little tongue in cheek, but Joki is the worst for years,
uh saying Yoka didn't deserve the m v P. Well
(28:34):
there was one more, right, what was the other one? Well,
Draymond's gone at Rudy Gobert like.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Every day every time he's on any chance. Don't like Yeah,
he don't.
Speaker 11 (28:45):
You know he didn't he didn't already choke him out,
so we know he don't like him.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
But what do you think of that? And you think
there go ahead.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
I'm just gonna say, Eddie, I think a lot of
it has to do there's some jealousy. Obviously, they've won
all the m vps and they're winning all the awards,
But I think that that some of the players think
they can go at these guys because they're not going
to push back. That's just not their makeup there in
a foreign land. They're not gonna go back at these guys,
and they seem to be getting dissed or discredited a.
Speaker 11 (29:13):
Lot, don't I don't believe that because Jokis does go
back and guys. You remember one of the Morris twins
was out for the rest of the season and half
of the other one. Yeah, after Yokis went back at him,
So I wouldn't say that.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
And remember when he bounced him Robbie bumped him in Yeah, yeah,
so that was a physical altercation.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
I get that.
Speaker 11 (29:33):
Yeah, So I don't think that, so they'll push back.
Guys are gonna push back their men. At the end
of the day. It's certain people that certain people don't like,
and if you have it all depends on who's talking.
They can talk about somebody good or they talk about
somebody bad. If you don't like somebody, you could put
out the negative about them. Then I'm quite sure that
there's people that really mess with Rudy Gobert and say
(29:54):
everything good about him. Right, But even if Yokis didn't
win the MVP this year, Shake Guilty should have won
the shit. Oops, Hey, just shouldn't won it. You see
what I'm saying he should have won that.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
From you saying because he was another international player.
Speaker 11 (30:11):
Exactly, That's my point. So it would have been another international player.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
And then it was Luca after him, and then.
Speaker 11 (30:16):
Luca after that. Yes, they're balling that. This is what
the NBA wanted this. The NBA has been targeting this
for over thirty years of making this game global, becoming
a global game. And this is what you get when
you make it a global game. You know what I mean.
You're gonna get guys coming from anywhere, all.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Right, But does that black players or the players from
this country don't play with skill or can't compete on
that level. I get what you want to open up
the game to bring in international players, but what does
that mean about the players from the United States and
why they aren't competing on that level to be MVPs anymore?
Speaker 11 (30:54):
Well, I will say there are guys that are competing
on the level to be MVPs. Jagent Tatum was on
on some of the ballots and probably got some votes,
I don't know what, maybe not no first place votes,
but he was.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Not in the top five top I thought he should
have been, but he wasn't. He was on my ballot.
Speaker 11 (31:11):
Okay, So I think this the AAU. The way the
AU is set up is set up to be individual basketball,
one on one basketball, and not really hone the skills
and guys are so you know, it's so monetized now
to where a lot of these coaches are scared to
coach these young players because they're in fear of that
they would lose them, Like, Okay, if I coach them
hard and riding, then they'll go to another team to
(31:33):
where they're able to do whatever they want. And so
I think that's what we're seeing. It's a byproduct of
that in my eyes, you know, being around I.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
Think you're right, but I think that has to change.
Don't you think that has to change? Because you're right, Eddie.
We if we talk about the twenty five or fifty
or one hundred best players in the world, most of
them are going to be American. But when you right now,
when you talk about the top five, maybe one All
International Edwards is gonna you know, he's up in there somewhere.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
But and then you got Wemby.
Speaker 11 (32:05):
Come, huh do we get Joel and b Because he nah,
we don't.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
I mean we from Cameroon. No, no, we stole him
the player. I want to check his papers. But you
know what I'm saying, Eddie, Like, I agree with you.
I think we have to.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
I think if you're fifteen years old in American you're
a great young player. In a lot of cases, you
are full of yourself, you know, because you're getting so
much love, so many accolades you got. You're probably making
money off social media, maybe nil. And I think these
dudes overseas aren't fifteen and working their butts off and
(32:45):
being coached hard and being you know, outplayed in practice
every day by grown men.
Speaker 11 (32:51):
Yeah, and I agree with you, unless you got to
think about guys over there when we talk about, you know,
the differences of American players, and if you are American
player that live in the hood or the ghetto and struggling,
you're not struggling because there's a program that's going to
take care of you and your family and make sure
that they push you up looking for back in handoff.
At the end of the day, when you get drafted
(33:12):
over there, they just stuck it. They just stuck where
they're at, you know what I mean. They're stuck and
they got to grind and grind and grind and get
where they're at. But it starts with the coaches. Man
at the end of the day, Chris, I'll say and
Rob I'll say this. It starts with the guys that
are in these grassroots programs that have to have integrity.
And I will say this, in the grassroots program I've
(33:33):
been around, is a lot not too many guys that
have that. Man, that's the mess up part about it.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
All right, that's our man, Eddie. How's great stuff? Brother?
Thank you?
Speaker 11 (33:43):
Right on.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
More Eye Couple coming your way. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
All right, it is The Odd Couple and Rob live
from the tire Rack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
And Uh, where's my Where did my rundown go? Wow?
Here we go?
Speaker 4 (34:11):
All right, I'm having some technical difficulties here on the air.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Wow, all right, let me uh, let me get there.
What's the issue? Chris, We hear you talking.
Speaker 4 (34:24):
Yeah, I know, I'm looking for my rundown. But anyway,
we're lying from the tire rack dot Com studios. It's
time for Shekel City.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Welcome to Shekel City, the home base for Rob Parker's
daily Dicks against the Sprat.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
All right, Chris, here we go, uh, she Shekel City.
Let's start off with the Nuggets t Wolves game. I
got the Nuggets plus two and a half. They're underdogs, Chris,
people expecting at least uh Vegas wants people to bet
t Wolves at home, giving them two and a half points.
So I'm taking the Nuggets plus to two and a half.
(35:07):
I think they close it out tonight. Pacers minus five
and a half. I'm gonna take the Pacers over the Knicks.
Maybe Chris will get your wish Game seven? Right, you
had the Nickson seven, so could be a game seven.
I had the Knicks and six. Oh yeah them in six?
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Okay? So are they winning the knighte?
Speaker 11 (35:26):
No?
Speaker 3 (35:26):
I think Indy's gonna win the night. Okay, so it'll
go seven. I think Knicks could.
Speaker 4 (35:30):
Yeah, Nick, It'll be interesting, Rod, because the Knicks won't
have much rest before Game seven.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
They really need to win it tonight to get it
over with.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
Yeah, if they go seven, it'll be I would go
Knicks though in the garden, I would go Nicks and.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
Seven, okay.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
And then I got the Astros in a baseball game,
Chris minus one and a half runs taking on the
Oakland A's in Houston.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
So there I go. I remember, I'm not telling you
who to bet on. I'm telling you who I all.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
Right, Rob, Rob, she's got some info on Caitlyn Clark.
She's playing her second game tonight. Right, yeah, I'm calling
an audible on this. But we had a segment ready
to go. It was gonna be great, but I think
it's gonna be better.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
Rob Parker set the Internet on fire yesterday with his
Kaitlyn Carr commentary just.
Speaker 3 (36:15):
Like he did by saying, Rob, you still think she
could play in the NBA? Go ahead, Rob, you don't
have time. You still think she can play an NBA?
Time for all that?
Speaker 5 (36:22):
Well, okay, small story. She's in her second game, or
first home game for the Fever. In the first quarter
of action, she was one for five over four from
deep for two points and three turnovers. So rough start
again for Kaitlyn Clark.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
I told you she was a flop in a w B.
Rob here's another one. This is really gonna make you
very happy.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
According to Darren Roval, the secondary ticket mark you remember
that moved to the big arena.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Please they going for five dollars.
Speaker 5 (36:49):
Go ahead, let me Rob to get in, including fees
before tip off as cheap as four dollars.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
She's saving the WSB market was four dollars.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
That's in Indianapolis, right, Yes, that's her home, Chris.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
They've outplaced it. They get it in a bigger We used.
Speaker 4 (37:09):
To play five bucks to see the media player on
off days during the final, Chris, four dollars, four dollars.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
You can't even get a three piece from Popeye's four dollars.
She's supposed to be a messiah.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
I look at it like this. I think she'll be
fine eventually. She's having a slow start. I think she'll
ultimately be a superstar in the WNBA.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
I don't know how long it'll take.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
I think she'll I actually think she'll get better in
short order. I think she'll cut down on these turnovers
and things like that. But I also feel like Rob,
I don't know even then, because you can like I
know you.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
Said last I don't know if it was yesterday.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Whenever we talked about it, it was yesterday, like the
first you know, impression or you mentioned the US.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
AAFL, whatever. These football leagues.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
God, the first week is the biggest seller, and if
you don't get them in, you're gonna lose them. I
think that's different for a sport, you know, like a
basketball somewhere.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
If say, in game you know, sixteen.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
She starts cooking and cooks for the rest of the season,
people will tune back in.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Now I don't know that that.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
I don't think they'll reach the numbers maybe the league thought,
but people will like she can still recapture the fans
if she becomes the player people thought she would.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
But I don't. I think the college college is just
more exciting.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
It's the march madness, and I don't know they'll ever
get like it was with the college for her.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Had she lit up the game one right and made
these amazing threes and all that other stuff, ain't no
way they would be selling tickets for four dollars right right?
Speaker 3 (38:53):
But are you saying they can't know what? I'm saying
they can't.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
But as you go on and it ain't magic, you
give more people a reason to go like, Okay, she's gotta.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
Be great, right, She definitely gotta be great, no doubt
about that.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
All Right, Mara, couple coming your way. Two hours left.
Keep it locked.
