Antonio Daniels, NBA champion their rob Loud talk the week
(01:00):
ago when Denver was up three to two, wanted to
act like Antonia. You said they were no adjustments, You
said it was over.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
He picked Denver.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
He changed he did, oh you mean after he did
initially right, Yeah, but.
Speaker 5 (01:20):
He changed his pick. He said that he thought that
what you called the series was over.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
When he's on, well, maybe I'll jump on you, all right,
He'll join us in the at the bottom of the hour.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Uh, Rob, we talked about.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
The Knicks briefly or the Pacers just in the last segment.
Let's let's talk a little more about the Knicks and
get to.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
The second round. Go seven games.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I mean, Rob, Julius Randall out, Mitchell, Robinson out, Jalen Brunson.
Ultimately Rob is out because in the third quarter he
broke his hand.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
Third quarter of Game seven.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Uh, who am I missing? O? Gion Andobi out? Those
are four starters and Bo got Vogdanovich out. I mean,
it was ridiculous at the end of the series, how
depleted the Knicks were, And for that reason, Rob, a
(02:22):
lot of people really, you know, felt like the Knick
showed a ton of heart and that overall it was
really a good showing, gutsy showing for the Knicks this season.
Jalen Brunson. Rob thought differently. Here he is when asked
if the season was a success.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Did we win the championship? Did we get close? So
now that's just that's my mindset.
Speaker 6 (02:47):
That's just how it is.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Rob.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Your thoughts, I'm not I'm not mad at that whole idea.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
I don't know if they were gonna win the championship,
what I will say, Chris, and he should be disappointed,
and you could make any excuses you want.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
They were hurt. They were they've been hurt. They were
without Julius Randall.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
Up to this point, everybody was yelling about Brunton being
a superstar and oh my god, look at the Knicks,
and nobody was counting.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
Them out because of the injuries they've been playing with.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
You agree that there's a difference between an excuse and
an explanation.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Sure, I get that, But here's my only thing.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
They had og when they started the series. Once they
lost him Rob, I mean that, dude. They were twenty
six and five with him, and I think they ended
up fourteen and seventeen without him since he joined the team,
So that's a huge difference. When he lost him, it
was like, my goodness.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
I'll just look at it from this.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Brunson played in the first half when that game was decided,
like can we He didn't play well before the broken
the hand. Chris, I get it. I don't want to
sit here on that like the injuries didn't factor in.
But most people I talked to even going into that
game honestly thought that they had a shot to win
and they and they didn't. I mean, I'm just saying,
(04:11):
and from their standpoint, they're back where we are.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Do do we know? I don't know. Next year.
Speaker 5 (04:16):
Are they gonna get past the second round next year
when everybody's healthy.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
This is what definitely what changes they make. But as
they are, no, Yeah, and this was an opportunity. So
you feel like he's raped what the season was not
a success?
Speaker 4 (04:29):
I just they're in the same spot that they were
a year ago. Right. They beat Cleveland the first round,
lost in the second round.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
That's what their circumstance look I like my leader saying
what Jalen Brunston said. I like him setting a standard
like this is not what we're trying to do. We're
not just trying to create a little bit of excitement,
a little bit of buzz and basically be a mediocre
(04:58):
playoff team. Got to get better. I'm here to win
a championship. I'm here to bring the Knicks their first
championship in more than fifty years.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
But Rob, he's on the inside and that's how he
should feel. But we're on the outside and looking at
the Knicks taking.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
It all together. The season was a rousing success.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
First of all, for Jalen Brunson, he made it his
first All Star team. He's going to make his first
All NBA team.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
ROB.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
He's got one more year left on his deal and
then he's got a player option. He has set himself
up to now get a max level contract for him.
It was an incredible success and some people are considering
him a superstar. And for the Knicks as a whole,
you can't ignore the injuries. I mean, it was ridiculous
(05:59):
how their players were going down left and right. Whether
you blamed Tims or not, they still were going down.
And they Rob developed, they revamped their reputation.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
You talk about an image makeover.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Nobody nationally thinks much of the Knicks, but nationally their
games have drawn the best ratings.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
In the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
People saw how raucous the garden was. People saw all
the celebrities and rappers in the front rows. People saw
all the ninety stars, Alan Houston, Latrelle's Free Will, Larry Johnson,
John Starks, Stefani and Marbury nineties and later I see
(06:49):
Charles Oakley though yeah, Oakley wasn't there, but the rest
of them were, and they actually flew them.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
I assume but they.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Were in Indianapolis, right, those dudes were with they traveled.
My point is it was a great look for the Knicks.
First of all, they play with heart, they play with toughness,
They they exhaust themselves, they get every ounce out of
their ability, and then they've got the superstars or stars
(07:19):
from the past supporting them.
Speaker 7 (07:22):
Like.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
That's the type of atmosphere and image makeover Rob that
I think could have made them attractive to a free agent.
So I think and look, yeah, it would have been
great to get to the next round.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Technically they lost to a lesser team with a.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Lower seed, six seed that they were, but.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
It was a sixth seed that was healthy and they
I mean, we can't belittle not only Brunston Rober, he
was also playing hurt.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
I mean that's the thing too.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
It wasn't like he was even one hundred percent until
he broke his hand. They thought he might be out
for the series with.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
The foot injury.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
So I just don't know.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Look, maybe they would have shocked the world and beat Boston.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
We all doubt it, and it would have been better
to get to the conference finals, of course, But I
think overall, Rob just stepping back and looking at this
I don't know how it can be called anything but
a success.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
We know they weren't a real two see.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Yeah, but they had an opportunity.
Speaker 5 (08:29):
I'm just saying, Chris, when you look at it, I
think it's a missed opportunity. You lost four, you lost
four of the last four or five to lose the series.
You lose a game seven at home, your star didn't
show up for in the first half of that game.
Not that it would have mattered because the Patrier shot
seventy two, but you you know, but it's no I
(08:54):
know there's a contact, I mean, but they're no better
than they were to me. I mean, and that's probably why.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
If Binver had lost Let's say yo kic or or
Yokis was playing hurt and Murray was out for the series,
wouldn't you look at them losing to Minnesota differently then
we look at it now?
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Well, I mean, they were without they wound up still
being in that series, Chris. They won a game five, right,
what was it, two to two? And then they won
a Game five banged up, and they were impressive in
that win. Right then they did? They go up and
then they lost the last two. I'm not taking away
the injuries. I just ultimately, if you're a Nick fan,
(09:38):
did you really what what step did you take that
make you any different from being getting knocked out in
the second?
Speaker 4 (09:45):
You revamped your image? Okay, you don't think you just
think that the window.
Speaker 7 (09:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Well, look they haven't been able to get free agents Rob,
And look that's a question too. And we talked with
Lindsay Hunter last hour about Thibodeaux and Rob. The Athletic
did a story a couple of weeks ago where the
players voted anonymously on a number of things. Yep, and
Thibodeau was overwhelmingly the coach that they least wanted to
(10:15):
play for.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
And Chris, that's three straight years and it's getting worse
every year as far as players not wanting to play
for him.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yeah, I mean, and I've heard he's gotten a little
better than he was, say, you know, fifteen years ago,
but still that's relative, right, he still may be more.
It's interesting, Rob, because Tim, I think there are coaches
in the NBA, and Tibbs is probably one of them.
(10:43):
I don't know for a fact, but there are some
coaches in the NBA, Rob, where they get every ounce
of ability.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
They maximize a team's potential.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Like a team that's not that talented, they get the
absolute most out of them. Right, teams not that good,
but they'll get forty seven wins out of them and
a playoff series victory. But when they get some real,
like legitimate talent, they over coach and limit the talent.
(11:18):
Now again, I don't know if Tis is that guy.
He really hasn't had a ton of time. I get Minnesota,
he had you know, Karl Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler
with some injuries.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
That was his really most negative coaching experience.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
He didn't do a.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Great job there, and that team had talent maybe the most.
You know, Chicago had Derrick Rose but not a Ton
Rod but the boozer was really good.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Or you know, made a few.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Noah lul dang me.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
I think he kind of maximized that too. But that
that is the question. Would a Paul George, especially Rob
at this late stage of his career, does he want
to play for TIBs. And it's kind of a quandary
because on the one hand, this next team.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Isn't that good without a coach like TIBs.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
On the other hand, will you attract the type the
caliber of star that you need to get to the
next level.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
And if Tibbs is your coach, will you Chris be
healthy enough to make a real run? The track record
says no. How much of this do you put on him?
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Some injury not all some because because there's a pattern
and it's happened before, it's not the first time or.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
Whatever, and and and there's some to that. Chris.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
You can look at guys who are banged up under
TIBs and how much how much he has these guys doing.
Lindsey brought it up. This stuff goes around the NBA.
They know you know what I mean, you know what
we're doing in practice like this dude is like killing us?
Are you crazy?
Speaker 4 (12:55):
Man?
Speaker 5 (12:55):
I wouldn't want to play for him. And then in
the end of the season you don't have enough juice.
That's not good.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Yeah, it's it's really it's interesting.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
I mean, maybe we should get a maybe we'll get
a doctor on Rob one of these days this week
to talk about it. But the injuries you look at
Rob were not I mean Ogion Andobi had the hamstring injury.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
That's one you might be able to pin on TIBs.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Bogdanovich had a ankle injury. He just stepped on the
dude's foot turned his ankle, So you can't blame that
can happen to anybody. Jalen Brunson breaks his hand just
hitting We think it was hitting Tyree's Halliburton's thigh on
a fast break. That's just kind of a freak thing.
Julius Randall. You know, we know you can't blame his injury.
(13:47):
Was it the shoulder on you know that that's just
the type of thing that could happen, So you can't
necessarily blame that on Tibbs.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
And so that's the quest.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
I don't know if you can put these injuries on
Tibbs and then in the in the abdominal strange Josh Hart,
I don't know, is that on Tibbs.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
I don't know, I get it, Chris So. And you
can't look at the minutes.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
In the regular season, nobody played more than thirty five
minutes a game, right, Jalen Brunson and Jewish Random played
thirty five minutes a night. So I think in the playoffs, Rob,
I mean, they had so many people out that their
you know, list of quality players was very small, and
(14:31):
I think he was.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
So if he has those guys, is he playing them
that long? I doubt it.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
So I think Tibbs probably has learned a little bit.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
And you know, people need to look at that when
they at these free agents, if they're considering the Knicks.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
Really look at it. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
I think people felt great about them before yesterday, and
obviously that when you fall flat like that, it takes
some of the air out of your sales, Chris, but
you're probably right, like the the vibe or the field
is better than it was. Like to think that they
feel to think that Brunton played as well as he
did and they didn't get any further than they did
(15:11):
a year ago like that. Yeah, but that's already had
no I know, I know, but I'm just saying, that's
what it feels like to.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
Me, all right.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, Jalen Brunson says
the season was not a success. I say it was.
I think Rob says it wasn't. What do you say,
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox? Was the next
season a success?
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Your thoughts? Next?
Speaker 7 (15:34):
Ah?
Speaker 4 (15:34):

eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Your turned away
and was the next season, which ended in Game seven
of the second round home court loss to Indiana. Was
it a success or not?
Speaker 4 (16:42):
Your thoughts?
Speaker 5 (16:44):
Peabody from Arizona, You're in the odd couple.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Peabody?
Speaker 6 (16:50):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 7 (16:51):
Rob? How y'all doing.
Speaker 6 (16:52):
I love y'all show. I listen all the time.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Thank you.
Speaker 6 (16:55):
Appreciate that this peabody from Vegas and Arizona. I got
property in both states. But I agree with Rob on this.
If they had have won this game seven, then it
would have been a success. I think the New York
Knicks fans they have high expectations. I can hear it
any off voice.
Speaker 7 (17:11):
You guys are rooting for the Knicks on the low.
Speaker 6 (17:13):
I can hear it, and no.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
I picked for the win game seven.
Speaker 6 (17:19):
But the Knicks got high expectations. They're kind of like
Dallas Cowboys fans. They out there because everywhere in Arizona.
I saw the Knicks jerseys, and they come out to
play when their team is really doing good. So I
agree with you, Rob, this wasn't a successful season. If
they'd have won that game seven last night, then it
would have been a successful season.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
All right, appreciate that, Thank you body. How about Robert
and Georgia. You're in the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up Robert?
Speaker 7 (17:46):
How fella? For your whole note?
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Man, how are you man? How are you.
Speaker 9 (17:49):
I'm blessed man.
Speaker 10 (17:50):
I just wanted to kin take it. Well, he was
already talking about it, but I know y'all was asking
for like a doctor cloon of Christmas saying about Duncan
a Lion. I am on orthopedi doctor for a Division
one double A college. I won't say the obviously the
college name, right, but yeah, I don't think it's the
tips Chris, Like well, I was saying, you have the
track reorcord of this running down his players.
Speaker 11 (18:12):
And I understand what you were saying about the soft
tissue injury with it being a hamshing on one that
technically you can attribute to him, but that's not true
because research have shown and orthited.
Speaker 9 (18:23):
The injuries that if you a player or athlete is.
Speaker 7 (18:26):
A team, they won't accept with the injuries because their
bio mechanics are off because.
Speaker 9 (18:31):
You don't use proper mechanics when you retired.
Speaker 11 (18:33):
And I think he just wears players down too much.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
That's a good point. It's fair, that's fair. You know,
the medicine is certainly better than me. Yeah, like I said,
in the regular season, you look at the minutes, they
weren't as bad. But I guess he felt so depleted
Rob the playoffs that he had to go with his guys.
So it's a tough situation. If he doesn't play them
that long, maybe they lose.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
Yeah, it's a catch twenty two to Chris, I get it.
You feel like nobody on the bench is better than
what we got, even if he's not at one hundred
percent right that like, that's the thinking.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
But but you do have to protect your players.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
I mean Rob, we talked about it.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Might want to play jokicch and Murray all forty eight minutes.
It's just not ideally, but you just you got to
protect them. And it's not why oh yeah, MJ.
Speaker 5 (19:23):
In New Orleans you're on the odd couple of Fox
sportuating what's up, MJ?
Speaker 7 (19:28):
What's going on? That got done?
Speaker 4 (19:29):
I'm doing good. How are you, buddy?
Speaker 7 (19:32):
I'm blessed.
Speaker 9 (19:32):
Bry hanging, hanging and just getting off man with no
definitely checking out guys out again every day.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
I appreciate you.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
You know that you've been with us from the beginning,
my man, we appreciate.
Speaker 9 (19:41):
That, no doubt.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
Professor rot Uh.
Speaker 9 (19:45):
If you're judging greens and championships, no, But if I
look at it as if my team, you know, it's
a team that gives me some joy, some pleasure or
you know, watching some viewership. If that's what you know
good season does for them. Yeah, like I said, if
he doesn't rings the championships doesn't.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
And you you mean, I think you judge rings and
championships for teams.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
That are of that ILK, but the knicks on of
that ELK.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
Yeah, so I'll agree with you, Chris on that. I
just feel like like.
Speaker 5 (20:20):
People, deep down, Chris, were disappointed when that when the
season ended, and obviously you look at home, it just
doesn't feel as good.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
That's just.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
I just feel like when you step away and look
back at everything that was going on, I feel like
it was a success. Look, I hear you. You're the
higher seed, you're the second seed. You you know, they'ren't
supposed to win that series. But if you look at
their record with him without on the Noobi Rob, they're
(20:54):
not the same. They're not a very good team without him,
and it kind of showed. So all right, Antonio Daniels
around the corner. We'll talk to him in the moment.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
But first, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at

We're live from the tire Rag dot com studios. Our
next guest is an NBA Champion Series XM NBA Radio
New Orleans Pelicans color analysts, and of course Fox Sports
Radio NBA analysts our man, Antonio Danielle.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Now, Antonio, I was looking for.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
I was looking forward to this because I was like, Antonio,
come on here and gloat with me, because I've been
giving it to Rob for saying that the Timberwolves wouldn't
win another game and that the series was over and
that I had jumped the gun.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Well that so, yeah, he reminded me that you you.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Jumped off the Timberwolves did and picked the Nuggets after
it was three to two.
Speaker 7 (22:03):
Well, the thing is, I picked the Nuggets from the beginning.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
Oh you picked the Nugget, okay, but you didn't pick
the t Wolves. Oh okay, okay, woosh okay. I thought
you picked it in the beginning. I think I did.
I really thought you picked the t Wolves. But but you.
Speaker 7 (22:17):
From the beginning.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Yeah, how surprised from the jump, I was.
Speaker 7 (22:21):
Wrong on both of these series. I was wrong on
this series, and I was also wrong on the Nitt
Pacer series.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Yeah, we want to hear both of your takes.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Hyeah, how surprised are you at what we saw in
the Denver Minnesota that's a big turnaround.
Speaker 7 (22:34):
Second, I say the thing, I'm not as surprised as
I am impressed, if that makes sense. I'm not a
surprise with the way it turned out. I'm more impressed
with the fact that Minnesota the way they did it.
Like all of us whose job it is to speak
on these games and talk about these games, would be
completely lion if we knew that Minnesota we went by
(22:55):
forty five in Game six, that was crazy, no for me,
Like the fact that that is a close out game
for the Denver Nuggets and they beat the Nuggets by
forty five. Forty five, But okay, that's cool now if
you're the Nugget took it all right, We get a
Game seven at home, so maybe we fall back a
(23:16):
little bite. The fact that they were down what they
were down in Denver and fought back with Anthony Edwards
struggling the way that he struggling. I am so impressed
with the way that the Minnesota timber Willis play. I
run out of adjundu to describe him honestly.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
But that's why I call it a choke job by
by no, No, I'm gonna tell you why, because just
what you talked about. First of all, you're at home.
First of all, you've lost three home games in the series. Okay,
Anthony Edwards six for twenty four. They're one of their
best players, their best player doesn't even put turning of
(23:52):
that kind of performance that you would have in a
game seven, and you go from a twenty point lead
to an eight point loss.
Speaker 7 (23:59):
That's a right, I get it. But here's the thing.
I tell you. The one thing I was right about
with the Denver Nuggets. I have been saying from day
one that the lack of depth and Denver would be
a problem. And on our show, I don't know how
many Denver Nuggets fans calling in and let me have it. Oh,
you don't watch the Denver Nuggets the way we do.
(24:20):
Christian Brown and Peyton Watson and all these guys are
just as good as Bruce Brown and Jeff Green and
all those guys, and they reared his ugly heads. What
the fact of the matter is the Denver Nuggets. When
those five don't play well, they're in trouble because they
have nowhere else to go. When they don't have defensive versatility,
they don't have experience, they don't have anything whatsoever coming
(24:41):
off the bench. So it was those five against the world.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
Okay, okay, let's go together.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
I thought I thought Antonio Minnesota was the better team.
I think, as you said, they're deeper, they're more versatile,
and they out played Denver over the course of the
seven games, and in every factor the stats, every statistical
category they were better in. So I think they were
(25:09):
the better team. And we're really in an interesting era
Antonio of parody, right, this will be the sixth straight
new champion or different champion in the last six years.
And I think the best players, the Jokich's, the Lucas,
the eventually win Benyama, the Anthony Edwards, the yannis Is,
(25:34):
they're kind of battling to see, Okay, who's going to
emerge as kind of the top player of this new era.
Speaker 7 (25:42):
You with me on that, Yeah, I mean what we've
seen what we've seen, and it's awesome when you get
a chance to kind of see it up close and personal.
Is we're watching the torch being passed. And we told
this because some of the best players in its league
of past or yester year were eliminated. Kevin Durant was
at home, Lebron James was at home, Steph Curry was
(26:04):
at home. You know that you can go through some
of the older players that we've been accustomed to seeing
this time of year. Every year, year after year after year,
we've seen the tours pass. You know, now you have
young stars Sga, Jaylen Brunton, you know, Jarif Halliburton, Luca
go down the list, Anthony Edwards, go down the list
(26:25):
of different guys right now that are younger and that
have now pushed their team to this particular point. It's
I love it. I love it. I love the fact,
like I don't have a dog in the fight, obviously,
but I love the fact that there is going to
be a different champion. I love the fact there's going
to be a different champion, you know, and right Jason Tatum,
(26:47):
Daylon Brown, all these young guys that are up and coming,
it's going to be a battle, and for me that
makes it more exciting.
Speaker 5 (26:54):
Let me ask you about the Knicks, and I know
they were banged up and injuries and whatnot.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
But what that game?
Speaker 5 (27:01):
I still felt like they won the first two games,
they had to lose.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Four out of five.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
How do you register or reconcile that that they lost
in Game seven in a way that it went Do
you just attributed to injuries or because that game was
over even before Brunton got a broken hand?
Speaker 4 (27:19):
How do you get get that?
Speaker 7 (27:21):
I don't attribute it to injury. I mean, obviously that's
a factor. But you can say that every year for
every team. There's been no team that's ever moved on
to an NBA Championship where something has to go on
their way, right. You can remember when Golden State won
years back, and everybody that they met on the way
was without their starting game, right hard yeap the year
Toronto won, there was no Kevin Durant and no play
(27:43):
times like you can say that every year. The thing
is you got to give credit what credits due. Indiana
ended up being the tougher team, which is hard to
do because you have two blue collar teams going head
to head. Indiana being the more blue collar team being
the deeper team, played it like we didn't expect TJ.
McConnell and Obi top End and Jackson and those guys
(28:07):
that have the impact on the series that they had
none of us did. I didn't even know, because what
I saw in this series was a team that kind
of changed identities. I was worried about whether or not
Indiana's identity in the regular season of being a showtime
Lakers team up and down, pass and trying to outscore you,
if that could translate to the postseason. But you know
(28:27):
what they did. They defended. They actually picked up ninety
four feet quite often, which is very rare to see
in today's NBA. They were the tougher of the two
blue collar teams when it mattered most.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
It was strange, Antonio, that they were able, because usually
you can't just turn it on in the playoffs and say,
you know what, let's defend.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Now, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
But they did that, which I know, we know Rick
carlis a good defensive coach. But for their players to
do that, and you're right, become good defenders in the playoffs,
and you just don't see.
Speaker 7 (28:59):
That very longchen You never see that. I don't believe.
I don't believe in the proverbial switch. I've heard Jimmy
Butler talk about that, like, you know, when the playoff comes,
I hit the switch and I don't believe in that,
Like I feel like it's something that's been there all year,
but it's something they didn't lean into and to the playoffs,
to the actually realized they had to being down too,
(29:20):
and then realizing, you know what, man, we got to
beat the Knicks four out of five times. And this
is why if you have an opportunity to close out
in game six, this is why Denver surprised me in
approaching game six the way that they did, because anything
can happen in game seven. And by anything meaning a
team can go out and not miss a shot for
the entire first half.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
I mean they missed my shots. That was incredible.
Speaker 7 (29:45):
And this is why you don't want to go to
a game seven because you hear the cliche statement all
the time, Well, anything can happen in a game seven. Yeah,
a team can go out and not miss a shot
in the first half, and then a team in your
best player can fracture at hand in a game seven. Like,
so many things can happen in a game seven. This
is why when you have the opportunity to close out
(30:05):
a team, you have to close them out and don't
play with your food.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
What kind of chance do you give Indiana against Boston.
Speaker 7 (30:13):
I give them a chance. I get them. It's because
I have my I have my worries with Boston, but
with Indiana, I mean, it's one of those things where
everybody they've played has not been healthy. And I don't
blame them. I don't blame them one bit. Your job
is to play who's in front of you. So now
they play the underman Milwaukee team with no Giannis, they
play the underman New York Knicks team. Now they're playing
(30:35):
an under man Boston Celtics team with no Christos WORTHENI
is three for the first two games. My issue with
Boston again, one is depth, and two is I don't
know how much I trust Boston in the last five
minutes of a game as far as offensive execution is concerned.
Really good team. Only team in the league where everybody
(30:55):
on the floor is a legitimate three point shooter. But
I tell you what, when it gets close and it's
five minutes, I see a lot of one on women.
I see a lot of Jayson Tatum going one on one.
I see it.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
I need to say it.
Speaker 7 (31:11):
When it works, When it works, it's fantastic. When it works,
it's great. But what happens when those one leg fadeaways
that Jason Tatum is shooting, goes on falling, or you know,
all of a sudden, you have a team that's clucked
in and then zoned in on Jylen Brown and they're
taking away what he does best. How does the Boston
So because the thing about Boston, they haven't been tested yet.
(31:33):
Everybody else that's playing right now has been tested somewhat
to some degree, and Boston hasn't been tested yet. So
I definitely do give Indiana a shot here. I don't
think they're going to win that series, but I do
give them a chance.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
In thirty seconds before you go, who you like in
the West MAVs or the t Bows.
Speaker 7 (31:52):
Oh man, this is it. Like, it's hard for me
to picture anybody beaten Minnesota. It's hard. You're gonna have
Ethny Edwards on Kyrie Irving, You're gonna hunt Jada McDaniels
on Luca. But on the other side, man, they can
hunt matchups. Yes, with Rudy Gobert. I'm interested to see
how involved Rudy go Gibert can be as a defensive
(32:14):
Player of the Year and if Luc and Kyrie are
going to hunt that matchup. With all that being said,
I'm gonna take Minnesota. I'm gonna take Minnesota in seven.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
Seven.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Wow, I got Minnesota in six. Obviously, could see it
going seven.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
I agree, I think, Antonio.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
If Gobart is a problem, like for the Timberwolves, will
they go small? We know they can go small, but
I actually thought there were times they could have, or
at least I thought they should have gone small without
go Beart, even Game seven, and to their credit, they didn't.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
You know what I mean, they kept him in there.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
What's small?
Speaker 1 (32:53):
Well, I hear you, They're still big. But I'm just saying,
you got towns in reed and knives, you know what
I say.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
And Rudy's on the bench. That's all I'm saying. But
will they do that?
Speaker 7 (33:04):
I don't know, right because that goes away from what
they've done throughout the course of the season. Right, That's
hard to do this time of year, right, I hear you.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Yeah, all right, that's our man, Antonio Daniels.
Speaker 7 (33:15):
Great stuff, for sure, I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
Tell us all right, Rob Luca has been he not
really knocking on the door, but certainly been at a
superstar for several years. Now, is this the year he
finally gets over the hump and wins a ring?
Speaker 3 (33:31):
That's next A couple, Chris and Robs.

Speaker 4 (34:13):
Rob Any guesses from you it's an NBA player. Ah,
who was it? I don't know, Luca doncic Luka. Okay,
that's twenty nine.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Points, ten boards, ten assists in their series, clinching win
in Game six. In the process, Robbie became the fifth
player in NBA history to record three straight triple doubles
in the playoffs. So again, congrats to Luca Doncic for
being our Express pros Pro the Week. Rob, I'm picking
Minnesota in six. Obviously, I give Dallas a shot. I
(34:50):
mean this is I didn't I did not. I do
not think they would have had much of a chance
at all against Denver. I give them a shot against Minnesota,
even as I'm picking the t Wolves. But Rob, I
won't like if they lose Dallas, I will not hold
it against Luca at all. Again, I think they should lose,
(35:11):
But Rob, this is also an opportunity for Luca.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
I mean, now the big.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Dogs out of the way, or at least who we
thought was the big dog, right and everybody else Minnesota, Yes,
they got some experience with Gobert, who's never been like
a great playoff performer, Karl Anthony Towns, who's never been
a feared playoff performer, and their best player is only
twenty two years old, Anthony Evers. On the other side,
(35:37):
I mean, Indiana's not even in the class of the
rest of these teams.
Speaker 8 (35:41):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
And then you got Boston, which is vulnerable and they're young.
If Indiana gets to the championship. Chris, what would would
it be? Would you be?
Speaker 5 (35:49):
It would be an indictment of Boston, Right, I mean, oh,
we're going to be into that in the next segment.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't
want to preempt that take.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Yeah, I know I saying that, But Rob, this is
a change.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
There's one thing.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
To lose to Denver, right, where Jokic is established as
the best player in the world and he's still obviously
smack dab in the middle of his prime and they're
the defending champs.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Rob, to lose to anybody else.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
If I'm Luka, it's kind of like, well, if you're
that guy, you're as special as we think you are.
You're a guy that we think could one day, at
the end of his career be in the conversation conversation.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
For a top ten player of all time.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
Then this is an opportunity, Rob for him to step
forth and get that first ring.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
And Uh, at some point, Chris, you got a win.
You can't you keep using they went to the Western
Conference finals already. Uh, they got Kyrie, who's got some
big time, big game experience, right, made one of the
biggest shots in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
There's a lot of stuff to like him.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
You know, did you hear Kyrie undefeated best record ever
in game in close out games, rob g.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
You might have heard. I think it's fourteen and oh
now is that right? I didn't hear that.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
Yeah, and close out games pretty impressive. That's ever in
the history of the league. Never lost the close out game. Wow,
pretty good. And they looked like they were gonna lose
that game all the way may right, all the way
the entire game. Yeah, I was shocked. Yeah, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
Then I was like, they're gonna lose, and they go
to Okce and lose.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Right, I, Rob, I think I think I'm picking the
Western winner. I mean, we'll see how these series look. Look,
we're not gonna probably get a great gauge on Boston,
but I think the Western winner is gonna win the championship.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
But yeah, yeah, I'm kind of with you. I just
don't have enough confidence in Boston if they if they
were to win, though, Chris, uh, it would be something because, uh,
you know, the Wicked Old Witch is dead right in Denver,
so there's an opening. Those other two teams are untested, right, absolutely.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Everybody is sick.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
I mean Dallas is the most well, Boston's Boston.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
They've been there, right, They've been there there.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
But that's what I'm saying. Of all the teams left,
they're the team that has the experience.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
Yeah, the most experienced, but we're gonna get to them
in the next hour. Keep it locked. A couple Fox
