Let's get this, punnies, you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
It is The Odd Couple. I'm Chris.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
He's Rob. We are all excuse me.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I hit my cough button, so you didn't hear me,
but I sneezed.
Speaker 5 (00:45):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah, we did this polland polland is in the air
in New York.
Speaker 6 (00:49):
Rob.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Oh, it's so uh you.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Know, I'm walking home. I'm walking from the studio to
the train station. After First things first.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
So today on my walk, I broke up a fight.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
No, you did not. You did not get involved in
a fight.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
There were two young boys, two young black boys on
my way. I was walking to the train station and
they were I'm guessing they were twelve, eleven or twelve,
and they're talking.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
One of them's.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Really talking a lot of junk to the other one.
The other one he ain't, don't he ain't scared, but
he not really talking as much, and they kind of,
you know, they in each other's face and all this.
So I see it as I'm walking toward the corner,
and I'm like, if they start swinging, I'm gonna break
it up.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
And so as I.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Got toward them, they're pretty close and one of them's
up there, up in each other's face.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
So I got in the middle. I was like, look y'all, chill,
you know, broke it up.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
And one of the one who was really aggressive, kind
of like looked at me for a minute.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
He had his fist ball gonna swing on you.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
I mean I didn't think so he didn't, but but
I didn't think he would.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
But then when he.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Had his fistball, I was like, is this little dude
gonna try Because they were they weren't big twelve years
If they're twelve, I don't know what they were, but
I mean I'm five ten.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
They were probably five feet.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Maybe, you know what I mean. And so but I
was like, I don't know if he's gonna try it.
I was like, I can just obviously wrap him up
and you know, hug hold him.
Speaker 7 (02:23):
I would have if that if that kid swung at me,
I'd have to pimp slap him, you know.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
What I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Well, he but like I said, he didn't look he
wasn't like looking at me a long time. He kind
of looked at me at his fistball, and then he
just looked away and kept talking to the kids. So
I'm in between them stopping him. And I was probably
there three or four minutes, and they you know, I
kept them apart, and I said to the there was
about six kids there with zhones rop and I say,
(02:50):
one of the kids, yeah, I was like, are y'all
there friends? And they were like, you know, they were
probably like classmates, but maybe not friends. And I was like,
I was gonna be like, why are y'all sitting here
getting some video and these kids about to fight, you
know what I mean? And so and look if kids
getting fights, right, we got in fights when we were younger,
of course, So I'm not saying it would have been
(03:11):
the worst thing in the world.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
But as you could avoid it is better.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
And he's not gonna settle anything, and and today it
could be some some some bad thing that over nothing,
you know what I mean. It wasn't that they were
just talking, you know, Alex, were cops came. I think
they were just driving past the street and then they
saw it and stopped and that's when the kids just
kind of walked away and everything.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Well, that's good, Alex.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
A real quick quiz for you, Alex, I think Alex
is Yes, real quick quiz. Difference between a slap and
a pimp slap?
Speaker 4 (03:48):
What's the difference?
Speaker 8 (03:49):
The backhand right?
Speaker 5 (03:51):
Right?
Speaker 1 (03:51):
But also it doesn't leave any march for the cop
can say that nowadays?
Speaker 4 (03:56):
I don't know did you edit that?
Speaker 1 (03:59):
You know know today man, people sensitive, but I don't
know you can't.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
I just want I'm wondering.
Speaker 8 (04:08):
I didn't hear.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
That's one of those things.
Speaker 8 (04:11):
Are you killing me to keep your job?
Speaker 1 (04:13):
That's killing those things where you just like, I don't
can I say that?
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (04:18):
Usually when you say can I it's no.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
So you bet you did beep it or or just.
Speaker 8 (04:24):
I mean, idea what we're talking about right now?
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Wow, you just killing me? That shows you killing me.
You were about to get asked it was a very
didn't joke of you, Rob, No, no, no, don't don't
put me in there, please okay, actually though, yeah, that's
what I'm saying, like you know, Criz, it don't matter.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
There's a lot of things that are terms that you
can't say.
Speaker 8 (04:48):
I like working with your job, Alex, good job, You're.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Welcome, all right.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
But anyway, Rob, there was an article in The Ringer.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
That where they said they ranked the twenty five best
players under twenty five in the NBA. I guess twenty
five and under is what they ranked them, and the rankings.
I was surprised at these rankings. Number one Victor win Benyama.
(05:22):
Now this is Rob based on what they've done and
kind of projections right of what they could be in the.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Huge christ The projection part is shut yep.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
It is of course because obviously Win Benyama wouldn't.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Be number one, right and if they're talking about and
I'm talking about accomplishments, then Luca would at the top. Okay,
let's not listen, this is what he's Jayson Tatum would
be second, right though he's twenty six but bad.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
But yeah, But.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Anyway, Win Benyama's number one, Uh, Anthony Edwards is number two,
Shay Gilders, Alexander is three, Luca is four, uh, and
number five is Tyres Halliburton.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
You have any issues with.
Speaker 7 (06:10):
These I don't when I looked at the criteria and
I think, like, if Luca was number ten or somewhere
like that, that would be ridiculous. That would be them
trying to get attention, you know, to their poll Chris,
if they did that. But when you talk about, uh,
(06:31):
like the future and stuff, Luca has.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
He's heard a lot. He's been heard. I should say no,
but he's been heard. He's also like his always complaining,
like like it's.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Almost annoying to watch him. He's worse than most, am
I right, But but he's worse than most. He doesn't
on your nerves. But still, I mean.
Speaker 7 (06:57):
The other and the other part is yeah, the other
part is as well. I mean, five first team nbas
is pretty impressive, you know. But those other guys, I
think they believe that they're ceilings, like they're just the
tip of the iceberg and they could really get even better.
Where As I think they look at Lucas saying can
(07:21):
he really play any better than he's already played, which
is fantastic, don't get me wrong.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
But those other guys, I think their ceilings are higher.
That's all. See.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
I do have a problem with the list I don't
have any issue with Whin Binyama being number one.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Rap that dude. I mean we're looking at something.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
It's it's I think it's probably even a little beyond
o Tani. Now maybe that's too much because Otani is
also something we haven't seen before, right, so maybe you
say it's Otani like. But and I obviously show hell
tiny I mean by being a top flight hitter and
(08:03):
top flight pictuer.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Heck a picture.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Period, right, I mean we've seen nobody since Babe Ruth
do both, and Babe Ruth didn't even do it, you know,
both of them together when he was an elite hitter. Right,
So this is oh Tani is almost you could use
the term alien two. He's just not of a size,
(08:25):
right Rob, That that is like unprecedented. But Wien ben Yama, Rob,
and you know how much love and respect I have
for Michael Jordan and Lebron James. But this guy, if
things kind of go as he has started, I mean,
(08:50):
he he looks like he might make the goat debate
a moot point like this, it's gonna come down to
how much he wins. And I don't mean it's just
about rings. But if he's going to dominate individually, but
he can win.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
He asked to win.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
I'm not even gonna give a number of rings. But
if he can win consistently and a lot, I think
his numbers and his dominance is gonna be such that
it's like, this is incredible what we're saying, and it's
the best we've seen.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
See.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
Here's my issue is that why can't he maybe turn
out to be Wilt Chamberlain.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
He could?
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Okay, good that that that's now we'll be even a disappointment.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
No, I know it would be.
Speaker 7 (09:37):
That's what I'm saying, Like Will Chamberlain, we wrote the
record books.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Christ, we get it right and going. I agree, Wimby
could do all that and not win enough. And that's
why Will doesn't get the love. So I hear your point.
Speaker 7 (09:51):
But but Wimby could smash all those records Christ, we've
ever seen, and it won't be enough.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
He's gotta be able to win.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
He's probably go at least honestly, Rob, he's probably gotta
win like at least five and maybe the past Jordan,
he might have to win six or seven.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
I really believe a lot. That's a lot to win, now,
how hard it is I are with you. I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
One thing I do like that I see in him Rob,
And you really don't know until they get there.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
We never would have thought, I know, because I was.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Covering Lebron closely early in his career, first stint in Cleveland,
a lot of stories on him. I never would have
envisioned what happened in Dallas or against Dallas.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
I never would have envisioned that.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Yeah, right, And now obviously he got over that, thankfully,
But you don't know until that guy gets in that
on that stage. So I don't know yet with Winby.
But what I will say Rob is he does seem
to have that dog in it.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
Well.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
He just wants to dominate and he wants to just
destroy everything in his path.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
And I like that.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
That's what it's gonna take Rob for him to fulfill
his potential.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
But so I got no issue with him being number one.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Luca should be number two.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Because I don't think and Edwards and SGA have a
bigger upside than Luca. I think Rob, when Luca donches,
when it's all said and done, he should be.
Speaker 9 (11:32):
Like in.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
That top ten conversation. Now that's saying a lot that
means he's got to win.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Probably three rings.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
But this dude is phenomenal and actually this year's actually
starting to play some defense, not great defense, but you know,
not where It's not like last Game one, Rob. He
made a terrific defensive play when he stopped an alley
oop late in the game. And so Luka Doncic is
(12:08):
you know, I thought he was like a Larry Bird
equip a comp That's why I call it, start calling
him Luca legend. I think Jokic is more like Bird,
you know, obviously much bigger, but Luca is. When I
think thart Bird, I thought slow, can't jump, but unstoppable,
(12:31):
like just crafty, knows how to play angles his body
even though you can jump and you're more athletic, he
can get his shot off on you anytime he wants,
knows how to use his body for leverage, like Luca
is awesome man. His numbers speak to it. And again,
he's just gotta win. So I don't think. I don't
(12:54):
necessarily think Anthony Edwards or Sga is gonna be like
in that top ten conversation all time.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
That's not kind of what I project with them. I
project like.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Edwards is like when we talk about all time rankings,
and we know it's just subjective, but I see him
rob as like a Dwayne Wade level, which is great, right,
that's all time great. But I see him at that level,
Sga round the same thing.
Speaker 9 (13:25):
You know.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Again, they could prove me wrong, but I think Luca,
of all these guys twenty five and under, has the
second highest upside to Wimby, and obviously has done more
than any of them.
Speaker 7 (13:39):
No, I get that if this was lifetime achievement or
what have you done accomplishment wise, I agree with he's
number one, not number two, number one. But once you're
gonna put a Wemby in there, Chris, it tells you
that you have a forward look at it, because at
Wemby lost eighteen in a row.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Wemby, you know what I mean? Like like there the
love best that I can't I can't let it go. Okay,
it's my go to, It's my go to.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
All right?
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Eighty seven seven ninety nine on Fox You're turning away
in the ringer says Luca is the fourth best now
and projected more so projected player under twenty twenty five
and under, behind Wimby. Anthony Edwards and SGA. I disagree.
Rob thinks it's fine. Basically, I think Luca has more
(14:29):
upside than a an SGA. Rob says he's got lower
than both. What are your thoughts?
Speaker 3 (14:36):

Carrie Kittles around the corner, Rob G.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
I know you and I've talked about this topic about
Luca yesterday.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
What was your take on where he was ranked?
Speaker 11 (16:07):
I had a very similar take to yours, but I
was much more demonstrative about it. I thought it was disrespectful.
I thought it was blasphemous to have Luca donc fourth
on the list. That yeah, Steve A he's way more
verbose than I have. He has another one for you. See,
I got to I know a couple of words.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
But Rob's got a vocabulary.
Speaker 11 (16:29):
Wow, because I didn't go to Southern Connecticut Tech State
Universe whatever. No, But like with Luca, if the list
is again and the way they described it, what have
you done before?
Speaker 4 (16:42):
What are you doing now? What will you do moving forward?
Speaker 11 (16:46):
None of the guys ahead of him have anything close
to what Luca has done before and is what he's
doing now not even a little bit so for them
to say, I guess Wenby because he's the the alien
and you know it's so unusual wool. Sure, but Anthony
Edwards has had like a good six months, you know,
relatively to what Luca's done. Shay has been good for
(17:09):
about a year, about two years. Luca has been great
for five now, Like his trajectory is not.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
Just got the show for he's got five NBA teams.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Right, because you don't win championships, no, doesn't give you
like a little bit thing because it's not like the
other guys have either last year, last year, Kyrie, what
they do last year?
Speaker 5 (17:30):
Rob?
Speaker 11 (17:31):
They flamed out, but Rob here's here's I don't know
if this might be a hot take. If Luca wins
the championship this year and ends up getting finals MVP,
which he probably would get you the best play whoever
the best player usually gets it. If that happens, I
think he probably is already like a top twenty five
IS player, and his knee could shatter the day after
the parade and he would still be a top twenty
(17:53):
five IS player.
Speaker 8 (17:53):
All time.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
His resume is red would be.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
But I mean that's obviously you know, you know that's
an overstatement. But I do think if he won the
championship and got hurt and wasn't able to play anymore,
I don't know that he'd be ranked at high just
because the career would be short. But I feel you,
like I said, I think Luka Doncics when it's said
and done, should be one of those guys. I mean again,
(18:20):
i'd say it the top ten. That's fifteen guys in it.
But in that range like fifteen to ten. Maybe something
got him.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
In the top, like the title. Would he no, he's
gone well.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
Well, look, I mean the highest rated guys with no
title are the Barkley like Barkley, you and o Ewing.
I put Barkley ahead of uni Ewing personally, but Barkley.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Malone, Carl Malone.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Stocked in those guys. I think he should be in that.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
I think he could be in that level route if
he doesn't win, he'll be right there with Barkley and Malone,
you know, and but I and hardened Harden's problem, Like
Harden would be ranked with those guys if he was
better in the playoffs, right that that hurts Harden.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
We got Jerome and Charleston. You're on the couple of
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
What's up?
Speaker 11 (19:15):
Wro me?
Speaker 9 (19:16):
Lokain Dodges is a tank. Okay, good luck trying to
guard that guy. He is a tank. He's the combination
of Andrean Dantley and Mark Aguire. Them guys have scored it.
Steve Well much.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Better, much more of a handle than Playmaker.
Speaker 9 (19:32):
I mean, yeah, but he's got that Jim kind of
kind of gamme.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
I might say a combination of James Harden and and
Adrian Dantley or Mark Aguire, how about that.
Speaker 9 (19:44):
But you know they're going to have a problem, man,
they're close to you in the fourth quarter. You're going
to have a problem with Dallas boy, because they're on flinch.
I don't want them nowhere near me in the fourth
quarter because I'm starting to get nervous. In Northern Minnesota teams,
they're kind of fokcross man. Just when you're thinking about
to win something, something happens. It looks like I don't
(20:05):
know about it yet, but hey big one game two
look out.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
Now.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Look, I thought this would be a tough series for Minnesota,
and it could be very tough. It will be very tough.
So Dallas is nice, there's no doubt about it. All right,
Carrie Kittles coming up, as I said, But first.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Our next guest has theme music. He's a former NBA
veteran and went to two NBA finals with the New
Jersey Nets. Yeah, they were the New Jersey Nets.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
A dat New Jersey Nets.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
On Exit sixteen w now a Fox Sports Radio NBA analyst,
Our man, Carrie Kittles, what's up man?
Speaker 4 (20:55):
What's up? Carrie?
Speaker 5 (20:56):
Are doing?
Speaker 4 (20:57):
That's why Chris and I both covered the Net. I
covered before everything. That's when Carrie was there, right, I said,
I covered before you got there.
Speaker 7 (21:04):
I was with John Bagley, Sam Buie, Roy Henson.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Those guys. Willis Reed was the head coach. That's when
I was there.
Speaker 5 (21:15):
Oh, well, you know myself, the.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Late great Willis Reed. Right, my god, Yes, Carrie.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
I know you want to get to Dallas, Minnesota, and
we will. But let's talk about Indiana. Boston, which is
playing right now.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Right now Indiana.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
It's early, but they're up twenty seventeen, showing no signs
obviously of you know, being in an emotional funk after.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
Because they choked that game down.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
I thought Carrie that obviously they would be disappointed, because yeah,
they did choke the game away. But I also felt
like Carrie, I was like, man, if I was a pacer,
I would be like, we can beat these dudes. Like
I would be, yes, I'm upset that we gave that
game away. But now I'm like, not only can we play, no,
(22:02):
we can play with them, but we can beat them.
And we're not just saying it because that's what you're
supposed to say.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
We know we can beat them. Where are you at?
Do you think that they would be.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Did you think they'd be more you know, disappointed and
down about that loss.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
Or that they would get a little confidence from it.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
No, I think Listen, I think for for a young team,
I think they've really bought into Carlisle and his experience
as a head coach. And I'll telling you what leadership matters, man,
in the playoffs. Leadership matters. Just like you mentioned, you
played two quarters in the playoffs, you get a feel
for the other team and what they can throw at you,
and you and your match and your matchups. Really, it's
(22:44):
really it's all about matchups. And they competed their bused
off in that game one, so they know they can
play with the Cellistics right without pazingis obviously it's a
difference with them. And so they're gonna try to going
there and still one game and in game two is
is a is a game that they can definitely take.
So Boston at the watch out, they're not afraid of
(23:05):
them by any chance, and they match up well against Boston.
I have it going six or seven games. It's gonna
be a long series.
Speaker 7 (23:11):
Yeah, well you surprised Rick Carlisle didn't get a time out.
I mean, the end of the game was bad for
uh for the Pacers.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
Yeah, I think that was That was definitely a judgment
call by carl out and sometimes you let that play
out and let the guys just go for it. And
so hey, listen, they got to put it behind them. Now.
It's tonight is all that matters for them. They can
go on there and steal game two and then go
home and hold home court and go up three run.
We're talking. We're talking about the Celtics now having a
(23:41):
fight out of a out of a deep hole. So
game two is really what matters.
Speaker 7 (23:45):
But Carrie, I mean, you can look at it that way.
But if I'm the Celtics, I don't feel bad about winning.
I feel good. They left the door open and we
took a game that they that they looked like they
were gonna win. Good teams do that. And let's be honest,
Jalen Brown makes a big time three right the time
game up, and Tatum came up big in the fourth
(24:07):
and overtime. That's what good players do, and that's what
good teams do. Like on Knights that you don't have
your best stuff, you still win.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
Yeah, but how long are you going let that linger?
If you know, I mean, you.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Can't do it every night. But I'm just saying, like,
I don't feel I don't feel bad.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
But we like to learn and wins. I feel you
on that route.
Speaker 5 (24:28):
Yeah, that's ideal, that's the idea. I mean, look, we
were there when I was with the Nets, and we
gave up a twenty three point lead in the fourth
quarter and we went back to the hotel. We had
a team meeting and we were like, all right, let's
sake this off. We're the better team. And we went
up the next couple of games and just stopped them
and roll them. So that was Boston, right player, Yeah
that was in Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
You gave up twenty three point lead in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
Yes, yes, And it was a it was a you know,
a defeating loss. A game we should have one. We
had it and we didn't talk at all. We had
a team meet in the next morning. Rod Thorne came in,
our team president, and he was great. He reaffirmed that
we were the better team. And we left that meeting
and I'll tell you what, to this day, the Celtics
had no chance at beating us. So they're a young team.
Speaker 11 (25:18):
Man.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
There's you know, this pacer team. They learned a lot
about themselves against the Knicks. Right. They went into the
Garden and won a tough game and showed that they
can they can compete. So they put that game behind them.
They know they lost that game, they could have won it.
But now they just kind of winning the game tonight
and focus on that what's in front of them tonight.
Speaker 9 (25:35):
They do that.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
You know, it's home court.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
They have home court, Jerry, there's something about Boston that
bothers me, and the analytics crew loves Zoom.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
Obviously, they won sixty.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Four games, you know, I think they got they obviously
got a good team, but I don't think they're as
good as their record, and they are the favorites to
win it all, and I don't. I don't feel like
they're better than the winner of the West. Like, where
are you at a on the Celtics.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
Yeah, I'm with you, Chris. I think I'm definitely skeptical.
I'm not all in with the Celtics. Earlier in the year,
you know, Porzingis was there, everything was old and they
looked great. But like the more I watched them, they
just they're missing something. I don't know what it is,
whether it's chemistry, whether it's that fight. I don't know
what it is. They're missing something and they're gonna have
(26:23):
to go out improve it. And you know, against the West,
against Dallas or Minnesota, I don't, I don't. I don't
see that happening. But I think they can win this
series against Indiana even though they don't have Porzingis, and
I mean against the West, it would be definitely a
wide open NBA Finals.
Speaker 7 (26:41):
Now you picked and if I'm wrong, correct me? Uh
you picked Minnesota. How surprised were you that they gave
it up, gave one at home?
Speaker 4 (26:52):
H to Dallas? I think you got Minnesota, you got Oh,
you picked Dallas. I thought you picked Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
No, no, this is my sleeper team head against the
whole season. Yeah yeah, no all the way.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
Well now you got him winning the whole.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
Thing, right, absolutely, absolutely, I really do. I think look
at what Kyrie. To me, it's all about Kyrie Irving.
Is he gonna buy into his role? And we've seen
it he has. The last month and a half to
two months, Kyrie Irving has been playing spectacular basketball alongside Luca.
And that because the young guys are all going to
(27:28):
follow those two guys, right, can those two guys play
well together?
Speaker 9 (27:32):
And look at them?
Speaker 5 (27:33):
They love their roles. They were both in breaking their roles.
He gives the ball to Luca and he says, do
your thing, and Lucas Luca's now trusting him, and and
and man has little match in this series. I don't
know if he get ready for that, because he so
ventures Kyrie last night, and so I definitely have the
maps advancing out of this series and win in the finals.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Carrie, would it be frustrating for or whether when you
played or these players today to play against a Luka
Doncics who now he is big and he's strong, but
he's not fast, he doesn't jump high.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
And you just can't stop him.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
You would think I'm athletic, I'm as big as him
or bigger, and I should be able to disrupt this shot,
I should be able to keep him in front of me,
but you can't, Like, would it be It's frustrating playing
against a guy.
Speaker 5 (28:30):
Like that, There's no question about it. And when I
watched him play, and I remember, Chris, I think the
first time I came on you guys show, I was
talking about Luka Doncics and I compare them with Larry Bird,
and your co hosts went crazy. He said, Carrie, I
can't believe you're doing this, and I said, I said, no,
look be honest. Like Larry Bird played with Hall of Famers,
(28:52):
this young man has not been able to play with
Hall of Famers yet. But I saw something in Luca
as this competitive drive that US players recognized. You also
to hurt the comments from Alon Binson as well, raving
about Luca Dodgers, like he just has that hit factor.
And it reminded me of when of my rookie year
playing with the X man David McDaniel and him just
(29:14):
talking about Larry Bird and how Larry Bird were frustrate
players because he's, like you said, he wasn't the fastest guy.
He just can't get his shot off. He talked trash,
he was tough, you couldn't rattle him. And I see
the similarities with Luca, the passing ability, the lack of defense.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
There this year.
Speaker 5 (29:36):
Yeah, he'p trying a little.
Speaker 7 (29:39):
Bit and he's annoying with the officials. Everything's a foul.
Come on, Carrie.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
Yeah, a lot of guys. I mean, look right, that's
the league, man, that's the league. Dennis Robin was the
same way. Rashie Wallas, the NBA champion, was the same way.
Draymond Green has been the same way. I mean, how
long are we going to complain about certain guys that
just are in their heads about the referee and and
fouls and complaining, but just look at his performances, right,
Like we could complain about that and nitpick with that,
(30:08):
and as rightfully so, but the young man has been spectacular.
He's showing up when it matters most. He's putting up
crazy numbers. And I think he's gonna win his first
title this year. And I think he's gonna be in
that conversation.
Speaker 7 (30:21):
I want to Gary Saint Jean was he was he
there with the nets or was he going by the
time you got got going? Gary Saint Jane was one
of the assistant coaches. And if you want to talk
about a player complaining to a referee, if there's one term,
one phrase that I'll never forget associated with Gary Saint ged,
(30:42):
it's almost every call, are you blanking me?
Speaker 4 (30:46):
You know, like like he would say that the best word.
He would say that, every plug, are you like?
Speaker 7 (30:53):
I still remember him saying that, you know, from the bench,
like every play.
Speaker 5 (30:59):
Carry go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Go ahead, before you go. We've said it on the show.
Before you played with Jason Kidd, you went to do
finals with him. Did you foresee him? I mean, now
he's like one of the top coaches in the league.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Did you foresee this?
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Obviously was a smart player, but or does this surprise
you at all that he's become as good a coach
as he has No.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
He hasn't surprised me. I mean, Jason kadd has always
been able to relate to it, to teammates and to players.
He understands the game at a high level, and he's
learned the art of communicating better over the over the
course of his coaching career. Now it's been a good
number of years he's done the sideline figuring out how
to relate the players from that, and he's he's got
that now. And like like any other thing, right, like
(31:47):
he is figuring out how to strategize better at making
an adjustments. You see him on the side line, pointing
and coaching like he was as a player. But I
think most of all that roster is amazing, right young
Express legs have list, they got a rim runner, they
have shooting guys that make timely shots. They have guys
to just buying into their roles and that's part of
(32:08):
the coaching that he's been able to do with this roster.
And Wow, I'd love to see him win the thole
this year. That would be great for Dallas and obviously
be great for my former teammates.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
He's come a long way from spilling drinks on the
sideline in Brooklyn.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
That seats to his competitive vibe. Let that go, Let
that go.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
I wouldn't matter anything for that. I wouldn't mad any
for that.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
He hate salute.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
All right, Carrie, great stuff as always.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
Man enjoyed the game tonight.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Thank you all right, moroc Couple, Coming you away, Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
Here we go, Rob, what is this?
Speaker 5 (33:00):
See?
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Sounds like this.
Speaker 8 (33:02):
One is a new series? Chris? Can you guess?
Speaker 3 (33:05):
I don't even know any of the new series.
Speaker 8 (33:07):
I know if I played something from nineteen sixty, Rob
would know it in the second.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Only that watch now? Honestly, like is the shows you know?
Believe it or not. My wife and I Rob are
watching The Sopranos right now.
Speaker 8 (33:22):
Really great series.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
It is great.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
We we You know. I saw bits and pieces. I
saw episodes here and there when it was you know,
first night, but you never never saw the whole.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
Thing, and so it's good. Did you watch that bits
and pizzas? I never watched.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
I've seen a lot of the mobster kind of stuff,
you know what I mean. I mean, I'm kind of
dumb with it, my godfather, No, no, no, I know,
but but I just I've seen that, John Dre.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
I think this is different though. Did you see it,
Alex Orrob?
Speaker 8 (33:54):
G it one more time? See, I think it's.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
Different than your typical, you know, mobster story. They live
like regular people.
Speaker 8 (34:03):
Oh yeah. That's the most appealing thing about Sopranos is
that it makes you feel like it's people down your street.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
It's literally takes place in the areas exactly, like the
references to streets and all that town's is where I live.
So do you and your wife do y'all watch shows together? Like,
just sit down and take some time to.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
Watch it, like at night.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
You know, we may watch one, we may watch an
episode or something.
Speaker 8 (34:27):
I'll tell you this though, CEB. Just be prepared to
not get connected to the ending. Just enjoy the journey.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Yeah, because was the ending disappointing.
Speaker 8 (34:35):
It's just like they they stopped it in such a
weird spot. They basically left it too open ending to
where your mind just has to decide because they.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Probably wanted to bring it back and they were afraid
to close it all the way off. So remember the
leading guy died to kind of cheat, You didn't he
the guy that was Tony Soprano?
Speaker 8 (34:54):
Yeah, he actually passed.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Yeah, but this is how long?
Speaker 4 (34:59):
How long I was married?
Speaker 7 (35:00):
The last TV show that I watched regularly with my wife.
Speaker 8 (35:04):
Don't say what sein Felt was in the nineteen thirty so.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
That was seid Felt ended. Let me guess a year.
You probably do you know exactly the year it ended.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
I'd say I could guess.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
Okay, yeah, I'm guessing. I'm guessing. I don't.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Nineteen ninety seven.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
I think I would say ninety eight, Rob g Alex,
do you know when Seinfeldt went off?
Speaker 8 (35:36):
I said, so, I'm going to also say ninety seven.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
I'll guess somebody somebody needs you say ninety nine, Rob,
Gi'll look it up.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
But I'm saying ninety.
Speaker 11 (35:46):
Eight, ninety seven, And it is ninety eight, ninety eight,
May fourteenth, nineteen ninety eight.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
That was the last show. Now we were still married.
What did you get? What year did you get divorced?
Two thousand and one. Maybe it's been over twenty years.
My god, time flies. We watched the Wire before.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
This, and you're like that that's said in Baltimore was good.
Speaker 4 (36:09):
That's how critically acclaimed.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
I've seen someone I think that, and you guys, I
want your opinions. I feel like this is just pure
kind of me putting two and two together. And I
might be wrong, but I think The Wire was great.
But I also think some of the reason it was
so great and so acclaimed was it was one of
(36:34):
the first shows where it was continuous, you know, and
rob when we you know, before that most dramas, you know,
every week it was a completely different episode. Every blue
moon you might get a continuation, you know, you have
an episode and it was a continue the.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
Storyline would be continued next week.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
But for the most part, every single ep so was
its own story. And The Wire, if I if I
if I'm correct, was one of those first shows where
it was just continuous and now so like so like
a soap opera, but it was a drop, you know
what I mean. A soap opera is a not an
(37:17):
ever going story like every day, you know what I mean,
you come back to it and you pick up what
happened yesterday? And is that I mean, do you know
if that's the case that The Wire was one of
the first.
Speaker 7 (37:29):
I don't know if that's the one of the first ones, Chris,
But that's probably a good way of looking at it
because most of the times, most like having it's a
new case or a new you know, situation or circumstance.
Except every show was the same on television. It's just
they just changed the city and CSI everything like those
(37:50):
like those are just so lazy, Like that's where television
is bad.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
But it's really popular now. No, just but it's lazy, Chris.
It's the same show. It's just the same show.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
Yeah, I don't even know if I've ever watched c S.
Speaker 7 (38:03):
I mean the CSI in Miami I love, But I'm
just saying, Rob.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
G are you a cs I Alex?
Speaker 11 (38:08):
You know, there's like twenty different versions of right, But
it's the same show, am I right? It's the same
show in different cities.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
Yes, Well, I one show, the last probably the last
network show, I really and it's a long time ago.
It might not be the last one. But I'm gonna
say that drama was Law and Order. Law and Order
was a great Yeah. Would you say that about Law
and Order? No?
Speaker 4 (38:34):
No, that was excellent.
Speaker 7 (38:35):
But I'm the one that cs I is just the
same storyline, Rob Alex, would you say.
Speaker 8 (38:42):
I was gonna say the only CSI I liked was
the intro with this one.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
There it is, let it go, that's scary.
Speaker 4 (38:49):
What is that?
Speaker 8 (38:50):
Miami?
Speaker 4 (38:51):
Oh that's c all right?
Speaker 3 (38:57):
Well we got an hour left, Tys. Just Trivi is
coming up.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
Keep it like a a couple
Speaker 9 (39:07):
Mm hmm
