right here, The Odd Couple is the way sports talk

(01:16):
radio should be.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
And we are on a.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Memorial Day, but Rob Parker and I are putting in work.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
What's up man? How are you?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
I know people are like adjusting their radios, like is
this a repeat? I never knew the Odd Couple had
repeats on holidays. We don't have any repeats, we are
live on memory recks.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
That's right, all that, that is right.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
I've been working all day, man, I did first things
first today and now I am no barbecue anything.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
My wife actually she said too, she's working.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Yeah, she went to work early this morning and is
on call tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Believe it or not, seniority, what's she doing working a
Memorial day?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
You know?

Speaker 1 (02:08):
They they all the partners sometimes got to rotate. But
she gets believing or not, she gets eight weeks of vacation. Wow,
eight weeks, so she got more vacation.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Doctors need that, Seriously, It's a lot. It's a lot.
I mean, I'm not a doctor, but I just know.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
But you know what I mean, Like people think it's
it's a lot of stressful.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Work, incredible stressful, incredibly stressful, and you have to keep
you know, learning, because new stuff happens.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
You got to be updated.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yep, she just got back from a conference that they
required to update your your knowledge on. And I'm telling you, man,
watching her go through medical school because we're dating at
the time, that's something where you you really better want it.
Like like journalism, Rob, I'm majored in English.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
You could get through it.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
You're not totally sure what you want to do, but
you know you can get through English medicine.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Nah, you bet.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
It weeds out people though. That's but that that happens.
It weeds out and that's what it should do, Chris,
because you're dealing with people's lives exactly. It's definitely serious.
We know ours is our profession is more and it
weeds people out too. But it's fun and it's uh
uh and uh. It's very competitive. It's just very very competitive.

(03:29):
So many people want to do what we do and
we talk about it, Chris. They're not thirty two media
outlets on the same part like in the major leagues
or NBA.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
It's only like two or three.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
That's like that, like that's really it, and all these
people are trying to fit into two or three spots.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Absolutely, it's hard, no no doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
And of course it's a memorial day, as we say
and Rob I had, we want to honor all of
the veterans and the people even now who are protecting
our country. Both of my grandfathers, Burley Bruce Ard and
Leonard Beauregard, they fought in World War Two, and my

(04:12):
father Edward Bruceard was in Vietnam. So I want to
honor them and all the veterans out there and those
who are in the service right now.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Right and I'd like to send that same message out.
My dad was in the military the Korean War, Chris,
and my late dad.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Robert Parker, Robert Lee Parker Senior.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
And my brother who you've met, was in the military
and an FBI agent, and so send out he was
did both, I mean yes, And so I want to
send that out to those, to my people, my family,
and to everybody else who was either in the military
or we lost in the military, who's still in the military, yep.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
And also Rob of course, the legend Bill Walton passed
today seventy one years old. We're gonna give a full
tribute cam the second hour of the show and will
allow you to call in and tell us your memories
about Bill Walton.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yes, died of cancer.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Rob and Uh a tremendous player, career only played ten
years and his career was injury Layton. Oh yeah, so
he still made the Hall of Fame, won a championship.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Some of those videos Chris with the with the with
his red hair, you know how red it was what
you Oh my god, big Red.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Uh, it was great.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
It was great to see Bill Wildling and then he
wound up being a colorful guy on television.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
But it was great on telling We'll do all that fantastic, yes,
and uh we were talking about that in the second hour.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
All right. We got the Eye Couple crew uh in.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
For Rob g the super producers, our man Patrick's sweet contrack.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
What's up everybody, sir.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
We've got you just heard him, Kevin wired on.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
The updates, that's right, Kevin will keep us updated. And
on the social media. Our man Elijah Sabunya working on
the holiday I get it, Elijahirk and on the ones
and Tuisa know it ain't DJ Alex Tyser and of
course is.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
That's right Mary.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Mary is doing her thing, all right, Rob speaking of
doing their thing. Man, The Dallas Mavericks up three to
zero on the Minnesota Timberwolves. And you got something to
say to these t Wolves, because this is what I'm saying,
and you alluded to this way earlier.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
People shouted you down.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
There were people said, you know, we weren't watching them
and they were different, and everybody we saw it.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
I think the inside.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
The NBA crew, Chris All picked Minnesota to move on, right,
I big Minnesota. I know I was overwhelming though, It's
what I'm just trying to say, Right, wasn't it overwhelming?

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Yep?

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Like because people bought into that they were going to
buck the odds, they were going to be different that usually, Chris,
is a path way, right, that usually you have to take.
And people looked at them and said, well, they knocked
off Denver, while people kind of overlooked the three losses
in a row after they were up to oh and
a couple at home, and because they won, you know,

(07:15):
because they won.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
We talk about it all the time.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Winning covers up a lot of things.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
But I think it's pretty clear the Minnesota Timberwolves are frauds. Wow,
fraud to the Capitol, f Yes or Memorial Days.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Just lose this.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
They gotta be fraudulent. Only from this standpoint, Chris, they
were ready. I know, I know they look ready, but
they weren't ready. And these games have proven that they
aren't ready. And it ain't like they got run out
of the gym and they weren't.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
The games are close. That's what I'm saying, Chris.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
This is what these are games that they were definitely
in and could have won, and they didn't win, it
mattered most. That's why I look at if they gotten
blown out by thirty and really didn't belong in the
gym because they got lucky and stumbled into frauds.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
If they were getting demolished in this.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
No, no, no, it would be a different kind of fraudulent.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
This here, this is different because I think people really
thought that the ant man was there, that he was
going to take this next step. They looked at it, Chris,
you talked about earlier. I remember when we talked about
the series with Denver. What can you do to stop

(08:32):
these guys? You know what I mean, don't. I don't
know what changes can be made, you know, or adjustments
to stop that's what they look like. They like world
beaters at one point, like like, what could you do
to stop this from from them getting to the finals
without having to go through the normal progression that we've
talked about in the NBA we've seen. All I'm saying

(08:53):
is when I say frauds, Chris, they weren't ready for
this party. They weren't ready for a trip to the
NBA finals. It really looked good. It felt good for
a lot of people. You know, I picked Dallas. I
just didn't buy into a woman. I'm not saying that
I didn't like Anthony Edwards or or you know what
I mean, or what they had put together.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
They beat them, but the defending champs.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
They get credit, You get credit for that, But I
just don't think that they were really.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Ready to take that next step.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
And I think we could find the tape where we
talked about it. You too, and you changed your mind
on them because I think of what you saw them
do to Denver, but you would originally, Chris and and
tell me, if I'm putting words in your mouth, you
originally didn't think they were going to be able to
get there because of this. Yeah, yeah, like that they

(09:46):
were like they were going to they were going to
be able to get there.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
My question during the season, as Minnesota and Oklahoma City
were running through the Western and I'm talking what I'm
talking about, my question was are they for real? Because
they're young and okay, see went down in six to
Dallas and they'll be better next year for it. Minnesota

(10:12):
looks like they're going down. I mean, nobody's ever come
back from three to zero. Rob I do think this
thing is over. We'll see if they get a game
or two.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Sweet but right, right, but it's not definitely. They could
win a game, but are they gonna win four straight? No,
it's just not gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
I think those two teams have proven they're for real,
no doubt about that. And rob and I knew this,
but I thought because Karl Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, Mike
Conley a nice supporting cast, that they be able to
overcome it. But the fact of the matter is Rob

(10:52):
never in the history of the NBA, which goes back
we know more than seventy five year excuse me years,
has a twenty two year old player led a team
to the championship. This goes all the way back to
George Miken and before him. Never the only one, clot

(11:18):
Tim Duncan was twenty three when the Spurs won it
in nineteen ninety nine, but he had David Robinson who
was still, you know, right there, probably at the end
of his prime. Of course, Shot or Kobe and Magic
Johnson won championships Young Kobe twenty two, Mike or Magic

(11:40):
twenty Kobe might have been twenty one. I think and
Magic was twenty, but they weren't the best players on
their team. Kobe has shot and Michael Magic had Kareem,
and so it's never happened. And I was not thinking
Anthony Edwards is on his better than those players are

(12:01):
on their or even on their level. But I thought
as the team was good and even though he was
the best player, he still had a really good supporting cast.
And Rob, we're seeing right now why no twenty two
year old has ever lived, because he's still trying to
figure it out, right, He's he's, you know, trying to
figure out how aggressive to be.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
You know, when do I try to take over?

Speaker 1 (12:25):
When do I get my teammates and vall He's learning
as we speak. And also Rob, he is and by
his own admission, exhausted. And when you look at him,
even as he was playing well in game three, you
know it certainly had a stretch. He's still his body language,
he looks tired to me, and I know to a

(12:47):
lot of people say he's twenty two, how's he tired?

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Rob, He's never played this many games.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
No, not, and certainly not you can say, oh a
you there playing on No these types of games where
the emotional intensity is off the charts. He ain't used
to this, and so this is why nobody his age
ever has been able to lead.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
The team to the championship.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
I will say this, Rob, I don't know if you'll
win a ring, but I think he'll win a ring.
And if that happens, Rob, I do think whenever it is,
they will this series. We will look at this like
Kobe's air ball in Utah, even though he wasn't he
hasn't played that bad. At Anthony Edwards.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
We'll look at it like Jordan the Jordan Rules when.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Detroit had to teach him right, beat him up and
get him tougher. We'll look at Isaiah, you know, throwing
the ball away and Larry Bird stole it like these are.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Moments that everyone's had to go through. This.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
I think we'll see if there's more before he wins.
This I think is his moment Lebron's getting swept by
the Spurs and O seven. This is that moment for
Anthony Edwards. Oh and he also getting absolutely zero help
Rob from his second best player, Karl Anthony Towns, who's

(14:10):
shooting twenty seven percent from the field, looked at thirteen
percent from three.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
Who looked unstoppable.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Chris early on in the postseason looked like my god
boyd that turnaround?

Speaker 4 (14:24):
But anyway eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, Rob says the
Timberwolves are frauds.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
I say this is just part of the growing process.
What say you?

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Rob says they are?

Speaker 1 (15:48):
I say, hey, they just losing and this is part
of the growing process.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Your thoughts, all right, Chris, Let's kick it off with
Xavier and all beneath.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
I'm assuming in New York or Georgia. All being in
New York. You're in the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Exavier?

Speaker 6 (16:07):
What's going on?

Speaker 2 (16:07):
So?

Speaker 6 (16:08):
Is it's going to be New York very rainy here today?

Speaker 3 (16:10):
Okay?

Speaker 7 (16:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:13):
It rained on the Mets Dodgers, right, got a doublehead
of tomorrow?

Speaker 6 (16:17):
Yeah, yes, yeah. So first thing I want to say this,
thank you guys for doing since a great show. Have
been listening a long time. Thank you, Thank you two
to happy anniversary of our girlfriend Rebecca. We are not married,
but baby steps we aspire to be so at.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Least how long have you been together?

Speaker 7 (16:33):
A year?

Speaker 6 (16:33):
But we've known each other maybe like four or five.
So if there's a couple it's working right now, that's awesome.
Let's good and then three three Ron, Come on, man,
he can't. This guy is twenty two years old. You're
going to get like six more years of Anthony Edwards
playing good. This is his first season taking somebody like
the Timberwold, what you know, is not a great franchise.

(16:56):
So the fact that they made it this far with
him is crazy.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Also, don't Xavier, how many people picked them to go
to the finals?

Speaker 7 (17:04):
Not many people tell him?

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Well he I think y'all talk about different timelines. I
think he's talking.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Once they got after they beat after they beat Denver, everybody, they.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Just they just lose into a team with two of
the best clutch players in the league.

Speaker 6 (17:25):
Right, And don't forget that, Luca is exactly where Anthony
Edwards was last year or the year before that. He
couldn't get past certain people in the finals, and look
where he is now. Give him a chance. Man, a
couple more years, you don't know and beat on the
market or somebody like that will help Anty Edwards get
past a team like Dallas. Make you that man a chance.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
All right, there you go, Xavier, you give him a chance.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
No problem. I'm been together. I ain't even gonna say that.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
We're gonna say, Chris, thanks to Xavier. What are you
gonna say, Chris, You've been together longer than what my marriage?

Speaker 7 (17:55):
What?

Speaker 3 (17:57):
Why you gotta dig at me? Chris? Is as long
as what? You were married? Seven years?

Speaker 4 (18:02):
Five years?

Speaker 2 (18:02):
We were together for seven and you know my ex
wife she made a mistake. Oh I'm sorry said that.
Let's go to Chili Tim in Atlanta. You're on the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Chili Tim. How long
you been married?

Speaker 8 (18:20):
I have been married four or five years?

Speaker 4 (18:22):
Five years?

Speaker 7 (18:23):
Very yees? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Yeah, twenty nine years in a few weeks. Social second marriage, Tim?

Speaker 4 (18:30):
How long we married the first one?

Speaker 8 (18:32):
The first time? I was married eight years. Look my job,
you know, in the bureau I had. I was traveling,
you know, all over the world.

Speaker 7 (18:40):
So kept me, Yeah, kept me busy.

Speaker 8 (18:43):
But Rob, you know, I almost drowned my sorrows at
Magic City when wrong Junior with now Man, I thought
about it, Thank god I.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Got Hey, Hey, Chris, what a Ronald Una again? My
and he's lost for the season.

Speaker 8 (19:02):
Yeah he lost, we can with but you know you.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
They won without him a one time World Series.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Yeah, that was the year they won the World Series. Chris.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
When he was heard.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
But the chance of doing that twice though, come on
to him.

Speaker 8 (19:16):
It won't happen. We don't have Freddie Freeman this time.
But quickly, I think what happened is the public defrauded
themselves because we I think public a lot of the
you know, forecasters and things. They forgot about the receipts
of what Donald Mitchell said about Colbert in uh Utah
and what Jimmy Butler said about Karl Anthony Towns when

(19:38):
he was there. I think people forgot, you know, what
the receipts were on these guys, and they kind of
told themselves that Anthony allw was was gonna put it
out of him. But if Jimmy Butler and Donovan Donovan
Mitchell couldn't get it out of him, I mean we really,
we really believe that Anthony I was just gonna put
out So I think.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
Well, he's gotten more out of them than those two did.

Speaker 7 (19:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (19:58):
Yeah, but but those but they're showing now like when
it counts the most for those two other guys, we're
talking about them. So I think the public kind of
defrauded themselves a little bit, and Navy gave aunt Man
a little more credit. What he could do with those guys,
you know this early game not sing he can't do it.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
But I'll tell you what, in the off season, they
got a big decision they have to figure out. Is
Anthony or I'm sorry, it's Carl Anthony Towns. Can he
be the second best player on the championship team.

Speaker 8 (20:29):
One of them has to go.

Speaker 6 (20:31):
He'll go.

Speaker 8 (20:31):
Berry needs the league, no doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
It's gonna be interesting.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
All right, Thank you appreciate it. Let's go to Andre
in Massachusetts. You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, dright, how you doing?

Speaker 9 (20:45):
Thanks for taking the call. Listen, I gotta go. I'm
favoring on the side of growing teams with Anthony Edwards
in terms of this three nothing lead he finds himself
in with the Gallax Maveris. Nonetheless, this has to be
a learning lesson Anthony Edwards. He seems to have more resiliency.
But what I'm the thing is Don Morant was at
a similar point right with the Messis Gridleys. They were attending,
they were they were close, they were contesting, and then

(21:07):
you know, you can't count on the continuation. Now, I
think Minnesota has the pieces, but the NBA, And it's
such a fickle thing sometimes where you look at what's
happening in Denver, all of a sudden, Jamal Murray and
Nikola Jocis don't get along, you know, because it goes sideways,
you know. So when you have these windows, my point
is I don't want them to get swept.

Speaker 6 (21:26):
Win a game.

Speaker 9 (21:27):
Okay, gentlemen, sweet maybe even you extended to the six games.
Remember what happened with Boston last year and when Miami
essentially punked them and they won three straight and then
got embarrassed in Game seven. But go down swing and
continue to build that culture, and then I think Anthony
Edwards and the Timberwolves have the pieces for sustained success.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Thanks kicking the call, all right, appreciate it. Do we
have time? Real quick?

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Evan, Real quick quick, h Evan in New York. You're
on the odd couple of Fox Sports. Wait, We've got
a minute for you. What's up?

Speaker 7 (21:52):
Yeah, gentlemen, perfect, That's all I need, beers. I just
wanted to talk about how sad it is that we
have lost one of the great What I'm today, Oh.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
We gonna do that. We're gonna.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Hen called back, call back. We want you, We want
you to give you more than a minute on Bill Walt.
We're gonna do a segment. Please call back to that.
We will.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
I'm dead serious, all.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Right, drugs coming up, But first, our man Kevin Wired
with the update camp.

Speaker 10 (22:21):
Yeah, we're less than thirty minutes or maybe a round
thirty minutes or so from tip off of Game four
of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Pacers and the Celtics.
Adrian Wardzanowski a couple hours ago saying that it is
not looking likely that Tyres Halliburton will play in it
tonight's Game four. He's been dealing with a hamstring injury
that he reaggravated in the third quarter of a game
number two, and it's not looking like the Pacers will

(22:44):
have their best player on the court for them tonight
as they're looking at a three to nothing series deficit.
NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, Western Conference Finals, that game set
to get going at a thirty Eastern time. That series
tied at one game a piece. Between the Dallas Stars
and Edmonton Oilers in Major League Baseball, two games in
action right now as we speak, Giants leading the Phillies.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
It's eight to four.

Speaker 10 (23:07):
They're going to the bottom of the eighth inning at
Oracle Park, Padres and Marlins all tied up at one
down in San Diego earlier today, the Orioles pound the
Red Sox eleven to three, as they got a seven
to nothing lead after four innings and would just run
away with this one. Kyle Stowers with a big day

(23:29):
for Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
The pitch row ballkicks off the rights out of the Mount.
I'll prease hit at a center field and to score
over Mount Castle's on his heels. He'll come in to score.
Two runs are in.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
It's a three hit day for Kyle Stowers and the
Orioles are.

Speaker 10 (23:45):
Into double figures and he love it nothing lead Orioles
Radio Network with the call Kyle Stowers. That was his
second of two to two RBI doubles that he had
four RBIs on the day. As the Orioles win this
one going away, the Twins hold off the Royal six
to five.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
Up.

Speaker 10 (24:00):
In Minneapolis, Blue Jays beat the White Sox five one,
Brewers and Cubs. This game was scoreless until the eighth
inning before the offense came alive and Milwaukee ends up
winning this one five to one. Up in the Mile
High City. It's the Rockies beating the Guardians eight six,
the Reds over the Cardinals three to one in Cincinnati,
the Nationals beat the Braves down in Atlanta eight to four,

(24:21):
and today's Dodgers Mets game that was postponed. They will
have a doubleheader tomorrow. Got you guys, all right?

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Thank you?

Speaker 7 (24:29):
keV.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
It's the I Couple live from the tire rag dot
com Studios.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Is our guest ready.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Emmy Award winning sportscaster for NBC Dallas Fort Worth, Friend
of the show, friend of ours personally, the great Newie Scrugs.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
What swie.

Speaker 7 (24:49):
Twelve time twelfth time?

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Well time we chased them twelve time, twelve time Emmy
War winner.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Yes, he has a Baker's.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
Dozen of Emmy Awards. He has are thirteen? Actually right?

Speaker 10 (25:01):
No?

Speaker 3 (25:04):
He just he would have said, okay, he would have
said thirteen.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
I was thinking of the one this year that you're
gonna get too. I'm sorry, thee Yeah, the one with
Bob Kendrick that we did.

Speaker 7 (25:13):
Yes, yes we should, Yes, I do feel good we
should get thirteen this year?

Speaker 10 (25:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (25:18):
Do we?

Speaker 3 (25:19):
We?

Speaker 1 (25:19):
We want to talk obviously, Mavericks, I might ask you
a Cowboys question or two later.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
But let's start with the MAVs.

Speaker 9 (25:27):
Now.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
We know, of course there was the end season trades
for Gafford and PJ. Washington that really turned his team around.
But how do they go from not making the playoffs
last year and we know when Kyrie first got there,
it just went south in a hurry and they didn't
even make the playoffs to now all of a sudden,

(25:49):
they look like they are they are clearly headed to
the finals and might win it off defense.

Speaker 7 (25:57):
You know, that's when they traded for Kyrie. They gave up,
gave up defenders and they weren't you know, somebody like
a Dory and Pinney fifty. They gave up defenders and then, oh,
by the way, something that Jason kept talking about, and
besides the defense need to get better. They needed to
just mesh and learn how to play with each other.
And they were able to get those things to happen here.
But the trade, the trade deadline at the time was

(26:19):
you know, it was it was. It was a shock
in terms of trying to get everything together, and they
just did not play well down the stretch last year.
Jason got criticized a lot, but he was able to
get the team that he wanted.

Speaker 6 (26:32):
You know, this year.

Speaker 7 (26:33):
I remember last year before the season, Jason was like
off Campraes, like, dude, tap down the expectations here, okay,
And then we made the Western conversis. I was like,
he basically was like, it's rostering what we think it is.
So last year he had his own reservations and I
think all of his fears kind of came to pass
and even worse some. But give Nico Harrison all the
credit in the world for for remaking the roster, and

(26:57):
he got a lot of he got a lot of
criticism my whole thing too. And Jason took all the
hits for the losses, and so says, he took all
the hits for the losses. Darshare turn around to get
this man the credit for the wins.

Speaker 4 (27:07):
How about the idea?

Speaker 2 (27:10):
And well, Chris and I talked about this to start
the show, but everybody in their uncle picked Minnesota, like
they really, they really didn't look at Dallas, even with
two dynamic stars, as a team that would win this series.
How surprised were you nationally of how many people discounted

(27:31):
the Mavericks, not at all.

Speaker 7 (27:33):
I remember having the last question to Jason after they
ended up closing out Oklahoma City and he said, look,
we're not going to be the favorite here.

Speaker 6 (27:40):
I get it.

Speaker 7 (27:42):
It was just not. But they know who they are
and that's one of the beauties. Like Jason, we don't
really care what you guys think because in our room,
we have confidence and we know what we can do,
and that's what matters the most. It's not who says
what on national shows or people who aren't here all
the time.

Speaker 6 (27:58):
It's the dudes in the room.

Speaker 7 (27:59):
You guys have covered sports long enough. It's about what
you truly believe on the inside. It doesn't matter what
people say out there. You guys all have to believe
with each other. And I think one of the things
that's really helped out is Kyrie Irving's better in past
of being able to get to this point and giving
guys that confidence. And I just see they're a lot
better than they were two years ago when they faced

(28:21):
the Golden State Warriors and the Western Conference finals, when
they just really weren't ready to handle the pressure and
everything that went with it. So they've done a tremendous job.
It's just two night and day teams from the Western
Conference Finals two years ago to now.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
I'm glad you mentioned Kyrie.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
He's really enjoying in all the credit to him really
to me like a huge image makeover. Do you see
much of a difference between him from last year when
he got there to this year or has he been
that way.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
From day one?

Speaker 10 (28:52):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (28:52):
I mean, look, Kyrie came in here, and you know
there was stuff around him, and some of it is
self inflicted stuff. They gave him a good contract in
any offseason. Nico and Kyrie, you're tight. Jason Kidd and
Kyrie are tight. I remember asking Mark Kevan, like, why
would you make this deal? And Mark said, you know,
I understand a person like Kyrie. He spoke about a

(29:14):
family member that he had that was close to him,
like I can handle this, and we can handle it.
And I think, then, guys, you know this very well.
This is the first time he's played in the market
where you know, the team is not the team that
you're talking about all the time down here, it's about
the Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboy and then oh, by the way,
oh the MAVs are over here. We'll get to him

(29:35):
when we can. So he's been able to operate without
a whole lot of fanfare, and now people are talking
about him and they're looking at him here. But through
the year, man, we spent so much time talking about
the Cowboys all the way in in January, and then
even when they were on their run and before the
Trader was like, oh yeah, it's the mass. The hockey
team here has been good all year long. Show they've

(29:57):
been able to fly him too the radar. And O
by the way, the baseball team won the World I.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Was gonna say, and the Rangers won the World Series
right right.

Speaker 1 (30:04):
Well, And as an example, NUIs I remember when he
wore the Palestinian garb in November in support of Palestine,
which and it didn't even it wasn't even a story
down there, am I am I right?

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Because up here in New York it would have been crazy.

Speaker 7 (30:21):
I jokingly had said to people, you know, if you
are in the conspiracies, this is the.

Speaker 6 (30:27):
Town for you.

Speaker 7 (30:28):
If you have different views, fit the town for you.
You know, you can get away people. People aren't going
to talk about it a whole lot. In fact, you
may have supporters here, but you are correct, it just
kind of went under the radar. Look, the Mavericks are.
They're not the coward. They just can't emphasize that enough.
It's not the coward. Even the Rangers did when the

(30:48):
Rangers were in the playoffs, when they were in Baltimore
in the second round, dude, none of us. We didn't
send anybody. We had our crew all out there and
Sunday and at football in San Francisco, it was about
the cow It really got rolling with the Rangers in
hell once they went to the Alcs against Houston. That's
what was like, Okay, this thing is really really popping.

(31:10):
Because the Rangers didn't so badly. It wasn't like anybody
was expecting it. So this run by the MAVs combined
with the Stars, we've basically got a game every single
night because we'll get ready to watch the Stars here
at the bottom on the bottom of the hour. So look, man,
he's been able to fly under the and it's been
good for him, and he's been able to gain trust

(31:30):
with Luca. He's got a head coach and the gentleman
that put him in a position where this dude is
comfortable and the fans here loves him. They don't care
what happened. After I watched it, happen with Nick van Exell.
When he came here, people accepted Nick. They were like, dude,
we don't care what happened in Denver.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
Now you're here.

Speaker 7 (31:45):
You're our guy.

Speaker 8 (31:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
Because Nick had his issues, you're right right there and
issues too.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
When you're winning, people can overlook anything. You know that
it's all about winning. If things weren't going good, then
you start to nitpick that stuff. So it's good that
he's gone there, he's played, and everybody's happy. What about Luca?
How big of a star is he in Dallas? Or
is he that big of a star in Dallas?

Speaker 7 (32:08):
He replaced dirt, you know, bottom lines, He replaced dirt.
People got their Lucas shoes. It's funny, man, it was
two years ago. You're in the Western Conference finals. I
took a pitch of these brothers up in the back
and then walking to the arena and they're about to
go around the corner and I see it's forty one
in the seventy seven Jersey, And I'm like, who would
have thought this when I got to this town, you
know back in two thousand, that you'd have brothers walking

(32:30):
around with these two European dudes jerseys, and he's been
fantastic here man, Like I said, he's taken over the
mantle from Dirk, has the potential to rival Dirk and
what he's done in this franchise for people here love
the guy. I mean, European basketball players are accepted here.
International ballplayers have always been accepted in this town.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
Last thing before you go, what are we to make
of the Cowboys?

Speaker 1 (33:00):
You've mentioned a few times not you know, given Dak
the contract extension this year. I mean, it seems from
the outside knew it looks like they're saying, all right,
you know, you want to be the highest pay guy
in the league.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
Let's see what you can do.

Speaker 10 (33:15):
Is it that or what?

Speaker 3 (33:16):
What do you what do you make of it?

Speaker 7 (33:19):
Well, it's interest, you said. I was sitting with Clarence
Hills Star Telegram last night and we're just like, they
haven't engaged either side.

Speaker 6 (33:28):
You know, Todd, Franpson, Dak, they haven't engaged with Gary.

Speaker 7 (33:30):
See, they haven't engaged, which is weird, stupid. Clarce did
talk to Marik Cooper who was at the game, and
he did ask Marik Cooper said, did you call him
the black Kirk cousins? He said, no, that's not true.
I did not call Dak black Kirk. He said, that's
not true at all.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
He said, I just called him Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 7 (33:50):
Well, actually, he said, look, man, my career was on
the down side when I came over from the Raiders,
Like Dak saved my career. It got me a hundred
million dollars. So he's like, I got nothing but love
that because he ended up getting that hundred million dollars
contract from from the Cowboys and then ended up getting
more money, you know, once he went on in Cleveland.
So he's got nothing. But you know, a good thing
to say about Dak Prescott. I don't know what they're doing.

(34:11):
And honestly, the way everybody else has played, why are
we spending so much time talking about these dudes. You
got the stars in the Western Cons finals mad as
a Western Cons finds. You got the Rangers out here
doing anything. The Cowboys are failing. It's so bad, guys,
I'm not even coming out for the start of training.
I'm gonna sit my weekend guy because I'm like, man,
I want to sit up here here. This mess no more.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
Don't how many times do you have to hear it?

Speaker 4 (34:32):
It's been over and over. I mean, my god, no,
it's we're.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
Going on thirty years like college.

Speaker 4 (34:39):
Ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
All right, that's our man, new He Scruggs. Thanks twelve
time in the award.

Speaker 4 (34:45):
Soon to thirteen.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
Yes, great stuff as always. Brother Well five.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
All right man, peace more eye couple coming your way.
Celtics Pacers about to get it started. We'll talk about
that next. Keep it locked hocable.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
It's time, y'all for Shekel City, all right, Chris Li
Shekel City Boston minus seven and a half in Indianapolis
against the Pacers. I'm sorry, but I'm gonna take I'm
gonna take the Celtics minus seven and a half, Chris.
They get it done and move on. Oh, I know,

(35:48):
Indiana probably doesn't want to be swept at home and
whatnot seven and they played them tough in the last game.

Speaker 4 (35:54):
I had a chance to win.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
But I'm gonna go with Boston that they play better, Chris,
Boston from the outset and just move on from this
and end it.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
That's where I'm at.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
If they could get nine days of rest, nine days
in between games, if they win this, and that would
be midnight, and that.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
Would be incredible.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
Also, we got one baseball game that's about to start
a little later on at six forty Pacific.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
I got.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Seattle plus one and a half runs, Chris, They're at
home taking on the Astros. The Mariners plus one and
a half runs against the Astros in Seattle, and again
I'm taking the Celtics on the road plus seven, I
mean minus seven and a half to sweep and move on.
And remember, I'm not telling you who to bet on.

(36:45):
I'm telling you who I bet on. All right, rod Well,
you said it.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
You're picking the Celtics to close out the Pacers tonight,
and I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
I think they will. Like you said, the Pacers shocked
me in Game three.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
Have their best player, Tyre's halliburt and he's out again
to night Rob, and yeah, they they they should.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Have won that game.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
They had the game one and they were outscored something
like thirteen to two or something like that.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Like that.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
Yeah, and uh, they blew it.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
And they've blow robbed. They blew Game one. They couldn't
get the ball in bound.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
That a terrible turnover, recall out and time out, like
like they they lost that game.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
They gave on that on that I think they should
have switched on that last shot where Jaylen Brown hit
the game time three at the end of regulation, like
they that does not speak well And I know they're
your pick now and they look I'm not writing them off.
They don't speak well of the Celtics that you've had

(37:56):
this much trouble with such a young team that quite
frankly isn't like a great team. And I look, like
I said, Rob, I'm not writing the Celtics off. You've
picked him now to win. It looks like they're gonna
face Dallas. I'm leaning heavily toward Dallas. But the Celtics

(38:20):
just exasperate me. So if they don't win tonight, I
mean they're gonna win the series clearly with all that
is at stake. They get to continue to rest, Chris
STAPs porzingis, make sure he's ready for the finals.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Get rest.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
I mean maybe Minnesota, you know, Rob wins another couple
of games or something and makes this an extends this series,
and then the Celtics have this rest advantage. Who knows,
but they are the superior team and they should go
out and get it done tonight.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
Know if says or.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Butts yeah, I just don't. I'm not that I agree
with you, and I think they will. But me and
the postseason just about winning and moving on and style
points and all that. I'm just not big on that.
It's like, if they get what they are supposed to do,
if it's four or five games and they win and
move on, they've done their job. If they extend this
to seven, sure you could say, like this is ridiculous

(39:16):
to be up three to zero and extend it to seven.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
Chris.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
That's why I think you do damage to yourself. But
if they don't win the night and it wouldn't be
the end of the world to me, as long as
they win it in five go back to Boston. If
they gave that game up, then I would be with you,
and I know the Celtics don't make it look good.
They make you frustrated, you know, as watching you think
of their talent and how good they should be.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
Things don't always work out like that. But that doesn't
mean that.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
They can't put it together and win. So I'm cool
with where they are. They won game that they shouldn't have. Again,
that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
I get it, I get it.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
But that's a mark of good teams and winning games
that they're not supposed to. They should be down to
one in this series, Chris. But things don't work out
like that. That's why we play them.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
What what do you now?

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Rick Carlisle, we mentioned him a very good coach, has
not had a good series.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Uh made several mistakes.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
We mentioned the ones in game one, Game three some
of criticized him for not calling the timeout and gets
his stolen Well, I'm talking about game three when nim
Hard gets his stolen from I'm not gonna kill him.
I still think they should have called the time out
because the celt they were trying to get down there rob.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
Before you know, to catch the Celtics off guard.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
But the Celtics defenders were down there, they were set,
so it wasn't like you gonna catch him off.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Guard, so he should have called the timeout and drew
up something better.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
They had their chances, So you give him credit that
his underman team has been in these games, but he's
made some big mistakes at the end.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
And Rob he said after Game three, well his team
is caught. Win that the league is planning.

Speaker 1 (41:00):
Uh, you know the Eastern Conference Trophy presentation in Indiana,
and that's gonna happen. ROUDI. They gotta do that every year,
rick I. Let you think they called during the third quarter. Hey,
get some guys on the flight. Do Miami when they
had the ropes out? Do you remember Miami right right
