Let's get this, punnies, you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
It is The Odd Couple.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
I'm Chris, He's Rob.
Speaker 1 (00:34):

(00:56):
let you guys get involved as we do every Tuesday.
It of course, is a trash talking Tuesday, so you
will be able to trash anyone or anything in the entire.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
World of sports.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
You get thirty to forty seconds to do so, so
hit us up in about thirty five minutes or so
for your chance to do that. We got a jam
packed hour for you. Rob in about twenty minutes, will
be joined by doctor David Chow's, the former NFL team
physician and now a Fox Sports Radio injury expert. He
(01:34):
always joins us to weigh in on some of these injuries,
and he'll talk to us about Chris STAPs Porzingis. I'll
just put it this way. It's not good news from
doctor Child for Celtics fans. So we'll be hearing from
him in a few and then Rob Eddie House and
I'm sure Eddie wants to gloat with his Celtics, who
(01:55):
he won a championship with.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
It was confident, yes, he was confident about them, and I,
you know, I picked him at six. I was confident
as well. I don't I didn't think that they'd you know,
roll like this. But it's just they won the two
games at home. I'm not over going overboard. They put
themselves in a great spot, Chris, as you know, because
because the Mavericks gotta win four out of five, that's
(02:19):
just ain't easy.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
But we did see the Milwaukee Bucks come back.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
And win four straight against Phoenix. It's not impossible. Well,
Rob bill Walden passed recently.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
He did it his when his only champ well, his
championship with the Blazers, I should say it's first. Uh.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
They were down two zero against Doctor J.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
George McGuinness, Chocolate Thunder, Darryl Dawkins, all of them in
the NBA Finals nineteen seventy seven.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
They came back as well and won the next four games.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Rob, here is the the big news of the day
in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
It was Chris DAFs Porzingis is injured.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Rob, And we saw him toward the end of game two.
Look like he's some type of leg lower leg injury.
And it turns out now the medical term, you know,
nobody's gonna really understand what it is. It's a torn
medial retina colum retina colum.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
All right, call your wife a shit around to tell
me what the heck this is.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
It allows that allows for the dislocation of the posterior
tibulous tendon in his left leg. From what I can gather, UB,
it's an ankle injury where he might actually be able
to kind of go out there and play, but the
chances of him really injuring the ankle badly because of
(03:45):
this torn tendon are like really high, really high.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
So it's kind of not worth it.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
And you heard Joe Miszoula, the Celtics coach, say, look,
we're taking it out of Chris Stapp's hands.
Speaker 6 (03:58):
Rob.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
They're gonna let their doc decide this, And I think
that's right.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Rob saved them.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Yeah, I mean it's different team, but those are their
the Warriors.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
But I'm says to sign it off on that.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
But they they don't want like he's gonna.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Want to play.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
He said he would go out there and die on
the court.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Obviously it's just a figure of speech, but he said,
I'll die out there.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
He's gonna want to play through anything.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
And from my understanding, we can ask doctor Child, but
this is the type of injury you might be able
to go out there and run around and think you
can play, but your chances of injuring it badly much
worse are really high. So we'll get more from Child.
But there's the question I want to ask you, Rob,
and let me give you these stats. First, the Celtics
(04:43):
were twenty one and four in the regular season with Porzingis.
Robgi quickly tell us what that means they were without him. Uh,
and if you can get the percentages, because that that's
easier for the listeners to understand. In these finals, in
the non Porzingis minutes, there's.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Been fifty two of them.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
The score between the two teams rock Guess in the
fifty two minutes they've played without porzingis Rob.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Guess what the score is between Boston and Dallas.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
I don't know what is it? One oh nine?
Speaker 4 (05:18):
One oh nine.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
So he's big, not just literally, but he's big for
this team. So how do you think this if he
I'm sure I assume he's gonna miss Game three, and
very good chance he misses more. How do you think
this if he does missay a game or two, how
do you think this impacts the series?
Speaker 5 (05:39):
I don't think it impacts it. I think I really don't.
I like where the Celtics are. They played most of
the postseason without him. It was a great lift. I
said this the other day, Chris, that what Porzingis probably
gave you in Game one is probably he helped you win
that game. Nobody knew what to expect. He came out
twenty points two twenty minutes. He really helped him get
(06:02):
off the snide, start off great at home, set the
tone that really helped them the Celtics had struggled in
the postseason at home for the most part, are like
aren't they like five hundred over the last few years
at home, So that was a great start for them,
and his contribution to this championship run. Chris might be
game one. It really just might be game one. I
(06:26):
don't think it's like, oh my god, they can't beat
Dallas without him or anything like that. I really don't.
And I'm not saying he's a zero. It doesn't matter.
But they've played long enough without him. They played long
enough without him to go undefeated at home. On the
road without him, they also were twelve and two. I
(06:47):
just he's important, but he's not the only reason they're
going to win the title, or he's gonna stop them
from winning the title.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
I mean, look, they are better with him, that's for sure,
and the records bear that out. In the regular season, robbed,
they were forty three and fourteen with him. That in
and of his self, that's a sixty two without him.
I should say, oh no, rob g. So they were
better without him in the regular season.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
That is correct.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Okay, So they're forty three and fourteen with him.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Which is a seven to fifty four winning percentage, not
twenty one and four without him, which is eighty four
percent winning percentage. So yeah, but I do think it's
a big loss. I don't think it means Dallas has
control of the series is definitely gonna win. But I
think it's a loss. This is a guy that's a
twenty point score. This is a guy that has more
(07:45):
block shots in the series than the entire Mavericks team combined.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
So you know, but I we'll hear from Child, but.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
There are a lot of people rib out there saying
they think that, you know, Internet doctors saying they think
he's out for the seat for the rest of the series.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
So we'll see what Child says.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
But you know, twenty points seven rebounds a night, that's
what he gave you in the regular season.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
That's tough to miss. I will say this, robh.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
Because you and I both remember in twenty sixteen when
the Cavaliers came back, when Lebron James and Kyrie Every
from a three to one definite, became the only team
ever to win the Finals after falling behind three games
to one, and when Draymond Green was suspended for Game five.
(08:32):
I remember I was there covering that series and thinking, man,
that is just a shot in the arm that the
Cavaliers needed, because you figure, look, we get this game five,
then we're going home, and now we could we got
a good chance to even that thing up at home,
and then it's a do or die game seven, winner
(08:55):
take all, and sure enough, that's obviously what happened. I
don't think Rob, like if I'm a Mavericks fan, I don't.
I hope to God that they are not thinking that thing.
I hope that they are not saying, oh, Chris STAPs
is out. We got a chance, because Rob, it's only
(09:17):
two zero. That's different than three to one, and you
lost two games on the road, so you're at home now.
So far, I mean, Boston just did what it was
supposed to do. You come home, do what you're supposed
to do. You you are still very much in this series.
And I would hate to think, as a Maths fan, Rob,
(09:38):
that the players are like, man, we really gotta we
gotta shot in the arm now that he's out, because
that tells me you're feeling like you can't beat them
with him, and so I hope that that's not their mentality.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
But we'll see.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
But I think this is an interesting development and hopefully
he can get back. You know, you always want the
best players playing. Now, hopefully he can get.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Back, definitely, Just I just think, And it's no disrespect.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
To him, Chris, Like I said, his what what he
brought to this whole series.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Was that Game one? I thought more. I mean, you
know you watched. You didn't know what to expect, did you.
I didn't know. You wouldn't.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
I don't think anybody knew what to expect, and you
certainly wouldn't have expected that point.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
And he put on a show and did did what
he had to do and set a tone early, and
it just helped the Celtics cruising.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
That Game one took a lot of pressure off of them. Chris.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
You know, they struggle a lot of games. They lose
a lot of home games they could have. You remember,
you thought if they're gonna lose one, it would be
the first game.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
And most people I.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Thought they would lose games game too, because you did
say they had.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
And a lot of times teams can come in and
steal Game one though we've seen it, you know.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Well they remember the animals gave it away to Indiana,
right the Celtics.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
They were, But I mean it's it's a bummer. You
think you got your team together. You hate to lose anybody.
But I think they're gonna just press on and and
and the other thing that they have going for them
is that Tatum hasn't played well. I mean shot the
ball well, I should say, because the other part of
the game is good, the rebounding and all that other stuff. Chris,
(11:18):
but the assist. But but he hadn't he hadn't shot
the ball. What was he six for twenty two?
Speaker 3 (11:24):
What was it? Yes, six for twenty two?
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Come on, he's shooting thirty.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
Come on, he's too good to be shooting six for
twenty two. Just that's gonna he's gonna snap out of that.
If he goes Chris, uh, twelve for twenty two s
they're winning twelve with.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
What you gotta do is, you know Drew has stepped up,
Drew Holliday averaging about seven more points in this series
than he did in the regular season. And you know
Derek White is scoring a little bit more. So you
gotta shut down the other guys. If Tatum is if
he has a great game and the other guys do
as well, Uh, you're obviously cooked. So all right, David Child,
(12:04):
Doctor David Child will join us and give us the
rundown on this. Chris stapsport zingis injury. That's next.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
All right, it's the ad couple, Chris Brusard and Rob Parker.
We are live from the tire rack dot Com studios
and our next guest is a former NFL team physician,
Fox Sports Radio injury expert at the Padres game with
his son.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
He's nice enough to join us, Doctor.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
David Child, Doctor Child, Welcome, Doc, what's up?
Speaker 3 (13:54):
What's a school?
Speaker 9 (13:55):
Thanks?
Speaker 10 (13:55):
Thanks for having me. Now we're headed down with a
carload of kids right now, but.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Well tell them we said hello and we're glad to
have you for a few minutes. So look, I just
read the title of Christafs Worzingi's injury. I mean I
probably mispronounced every word. Give us in layman's terms, what
the injury is and what you think the prognosis is
for him going forward.
Speaker 10 (14:20):
Well, they actually spell it out. They literally say the
injury is a torn medial retinaculum that allowed this location
of the post at tibiallis tendon. I get it. It's big,
fancy words. The bottom line is a main tendant on
the inside of the ankle has flipped over the inside
of the ankle. If you reach down to your shoe
(14:41):
right now and feel the inside of your ankle, you'll
feel the big piece of bone and literally the tendons
flipped over the top. This is a big deal. I
don't see how it's day to day. As a matter
of fact, I think it's heroic of Forzingis to have
returned to the same game, because the Celtics indicated it
happened at three twenty seven of the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
So how how did he play? Then?
Speaker 5 (15:05):
If you if you're saying like this is the end
of it, this is earth shattering or whatever, how did
he play?
Speaker 10 (15:11):
He played because he didn't do a lot. I mean,
if you look at what he did. He didn't do
a whole But I.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
Mean, you could still get out there, is what I'm saying.
If it's just that bad, how could you even be
out there?
Speaker 10 (15:21):
Well, I mean, I get it's Boston, but the closest
comp is Kurt Shilling Boston Red Sox.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
The bloody sock that was ketchup, right, that was ketchup.
Speaker 10 (15:33):
No, no, it actually wasn't ketchup. It wasn't pure blood though.
It wasn't pure blood. It wasn't pure blood at all,
because it's just it was you know, from the Nunning medicine.
But that was on the outside of the ankles, from
the inside of the ankle. But pitching is much different
than being dynamic playing the game of basketball.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Well, I've seen some reports that you could play with this,
but the end, the likelihood of you injuring the ankle
more severely is just incredibly great if you were to
go out and play with this.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Is that is that true?
Speaker 10 (16:11):
Well, I don't know. The retnackles already torn, but you know,
imagine if that major tendon snaps over the bone on
the inside of the ankle, you kind of fall down, right.
I mean, I don't see how he can dynamically play.
Like I said, it was herogue that he returned to
the game. Do I think he's going to suffer permanent
damage as he tries to play?
Speaker 11 (16:27):
No?
Speaker 10 (16:27):
Do I think he could sit out, you know, being
given a size to three point range and shoot three. Sure,
but can he be dynamic and a rim protector. I
just don't see it with this type of injury. I've
treated this type of injury, and quite honestly, believe or not,
he's going to need surgery to repair the to repair
the torn retinacular.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
So you predicted he will not play another minute, I.
Speaker 10 (16:50):
Am predicting that he will not play. He's trying to play.
He's day to day, and they're keeping hope alive because
he returned to the game. But I think they're gonna
if they try and play him, they're gonna find out
very quickly that he can't do a lot. Look. I
still remember I was in a room full of people
at that AFC NFC Championship game with rock Perty. I said,
(17:12):
he tore his own colide ligaman and he's not returning
to play. He returned to play on third and fifteen,
and everyone said, you're an idiot, you're wrong. And he
handed the ball off and never threw the ball again.
So could he physically get into the game shore? But
could he be anywhere close to Christophers porzingis?
Speaker 5 (17:28):
No, How in the world did the doctors sign off
on Kevin Durant, Chris and I when he was with
the Warriors. Chris and I not second guest, first guest
that there's no way he should be out there. And
how does that happen when the doctors what they say Chris,
that he couldn't do any more damage kind of thing.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Yeah, it was. It was ridiculous. How does that happen? Doc?
Speaker 6 (17:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 10 (17:54):
I'm not into the details of that, but I'm with you.
I was always worried about it being a high Achilles
Kevin Durant, And then we returned to play. I said, look,
the ball doesn't go through KD anymore. It's got to
go through Steph Curry. And that's what happened in the
first quarter. And then in the second quarter, Steph Curry
took his turn on the bench and the ball went
through KD. And you know, unfortunately that happened, but thankfully,
(18:18):
I think I was kind of in the minority to
say that KD will he deserves the max contract and
he'll be one hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Yeah, and he got that, and obviously he's played well individually.
Since then, you mentioned that you think Porzingis is going
to need surgery. How long is the recovery from that? Like,
how long would that keep him out?
Speaker 10 (18:39):
I think he could be ready towards the early part
beginning of next season. It's pretty routine to fix the retinaculum.
He might miss a little bit in the beginning, just
because it's the NBA, right and everything is there's a
lot of games. But I don't think it's a big
deal for his career. But I think it's very difficult
(19:00):
to be a dynamic player right now.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Okay, okay, well, doctor child, Look, we appreciate your time
and giving us the scoop.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
So according to you.
Speaker 10 (19:12):
One final thing, this left leg injury has nothing to
do with the right cast other side, nothing to do
with it.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
There's not not even.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
Like overcompensation or anything.
Speaker 10 (19:22):
That's not even I don't think so it's a it's
a freak rare thing. It has happened. I've treated it before,
but it's not that common.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Okay, Okay, well, great information.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
We appreciate it. Enjoy the game tonight. Who who's winning?
It's the and the Padres.
Speaker 10 (19:38):
Rights are winning. Come on now there you go.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
We will And that beautiful ballpark. I love that place, doc,
Oh my god, I love this stadium.
Speaker 6 (19:47):
Come visit.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
No, Doc, I never miss it.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
So all right, great stuff, doctor David Child, Thank you, brother,
We appreciate you.
Speaker 10 (19:55):
All right, thank you.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
All right, that's David Child, Fox Sports Radio injury expert.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
Right, what do you make of that rap?
Speaker 5 (20:05):
I mean, my my only issue was how did he continue.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
To play on it? You know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (20:11):
And that like again he wasn't productive, but to even
be out there, I just I'm always questioned the doctors, Chris.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
I think they are conflict of interest, the team that.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
He of course doesn't have any in this.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
No, no, no, not him.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
I'm just saying in general, you know, like like there's
a conflict.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
I don't care what they say.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
They're they're like they send him out there.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
Yeah, like that.
Speaker 5 (20:33):
The doctors, Chris, Uh, if you if you don't send
guys out enough, they'll go get another doctor, do you
know what I mean? Like they will, there's no doubt. Yeah,
this dude, it never clears anybody. We need another doctor
and that and then that's the end of him.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Yeah, and you know, if I were a player, I
would definitely want to go get second opinions Rob, you know,
if I have to serious, no question about it.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
And unfortunately sometimes that can get you labeled.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
You know what, Kawhi Leonard, he didn't trust the doctors.
And look at what he's been into, Chris, you can
say whatever you want. Is a hypochondriac this and that.
He's been out a lot and he was questioning everything
that was going.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
On down Yeah, absolutely, all right, Eddie Houses around the corner.

Guys. Good to always Hey, always good to chat with
you guys On a Tuesday. I don't know whose voice
stat was as far as you draw, but that guy
should get fired. Oh yeah, it might have been Tom.
Much Tom, you are on, You're always on. You're always
on the radio, especially when you're not on the radio,
just the way you convey yourself. Anyway, Let's get into
what's going on in Major League Baseball right now. We've
(21:59):
got tons of action playing out in front of us.
It was Jorge Mattea with a three running blast in
the second inning for the Orioles. They have now increased
their lead four nothing versus the Braves. Top of the
seventh there in Baltimore, Tigers are clinging on to a
four to three edge against the National stop of the
seventh there from Detroit, Cubs only ones to score in
(22:19):
this one against the Rays in a low scoring affair
to nothing in Chicago's favor. They and they are in
the seventh frame making their way to the bottom half
of the fifth. The Reds are having to play catch
up down three to one to the Guardians who are
twenty games over five hundred mets on the board, with
(22:40):
two runs two to one in front of the Marlins,
that's in the fifth inning. Phillies back from London, and
they right now are pestering the Red Sox four to one,
six hits to show four and Zach Wheeler on the
bump for the Phills four and one third innings one
and run three it's three strikeouts one allowed walk. In
(23:02):
regards to what else is going on, We've got the
US Open happening this week, the third golf major of
the season, and John Rahm is not going to be
able to participate. It came out of the live event
that he was part of in Houston last week in
mid round, and it was because of a left foot injury,
and that's going to be the alibi for why he
(23:22):
doesn't participate in the Open coming up later on this week,
starting on Thursday. He of course, was the twenty twenty
three Masters champion. As the guys were discussing with the doctor,
Celtics center Christaps Porzingis has been moved to questionable, and
you put the questionable in air quotes considering what we
just heard on the radio and discussion about him. But
it is questionable technically by the team for tomorrow's Game
(23:46):
three of the NBA Finals, with Porzingis calling that bodily
issue a random situation, almost like a freak accident. And lastly,
USA Basketball and a public announcement made a claim and
this was on the heels of all the pushback they
are receiving about why they didn't put Caitlin Clark on
this summer's Olympic women's team roster.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
So the reason they didn't.
Speaker 12 (24:07):
Do it was because of experience, and that everybody else
on the roster had experience playing internationally, and lastly that
the selection committee wasn't just about to base everything on
a popularity contest. I'll tell you two guys who are
always front runners for popularity contests. It's those guys right there.
(24:28):
It's the Odd Couple. It's Chris Brussard.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Thank you for b Finn.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
It is the Odd Couple. Live from the tire rexstot
dot com studios. Our next guest got theme music. He's
an NBA champion, NBC Sports Boston, Fox Sports Radio, NBA
analysts our man, Eddie House, E House.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
What up, yo, yo, what's up?
Speaker 6 (24:51):
What's up? You gotta add something to that though, bruh,
what I gotta ad Emmy award winning man. I want
to Emmy man. I got the news on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Congratulations brother, real talk man.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
How much did that's all standing?
Speaker 10 (25:08):
Thank you?
Speaker 6 (25:09):
Thank you? So please add that to the introduct because
I love hearing it. Thank you. By the way, yes,
we bro my ego.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Absolutely Now is that for your work on NBC Sports Boston.
Speaker 6 (25:20):
Yes, it is.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
That's great man, real talk. I'm I'm very happy that
congrat that is excellent.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
Yes, you want to you before your before your you
broke down the series and you were very confident about
the Celtics.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
I'm with you, Christian. You know you want to a
little bit. You have to run that. You don't have
to do that, but you you you did it before
the series. What's what's stopping you?
Speaker 12 (25:45):
Now?
Speaker 6 (25:46):
I wasn't gloating. I wasn't gloating. I was just putting
out facts. You know when I when I was playing.
Speaker 10 (25:53):
You, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
I just call it like I see it.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
I might see it wrong, but I call it like
I see it.
Speaker 6 (25:59):
But I gotta get you some glasses or some contacts.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
All right, Look, first let's start with Porzingis.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
We just had a doctor, former NFL team doctor on
David Child.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
He said this injury he believes will keep.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Porzingis out for the rest of the series, and he
even is going to need surgery.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
I know you're not a doctor, but what are your
thoughts on I.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
Don't know if you're hearing anything out of Boston, what
are your thoughts on what this injury, you know, is
this gonna how long it'll keep him out?
Speaker 6 (26:31):
Well, there was a doctor that we had on our
show to explain what it was. It says, basically, something
that holds tendons together in their ankle right it wrapped
over and what it happened with the tear where it's
that that one tenant could slide out or be dislocated
if you know, if it does do that because of
the injury he has. Now all things that I've heard
(26:53):
is it's all a pain tolerance thing that if he's
able to play through it, because what they send the
symptoms are like a rolled ankle, like if you you know,
roll your ankle, twist your ankle, something like that, that
depending on how severe that ankle roll is or your
pain tolerance, can you play through it. I've seen him
walking this morning. That practice he didn't do go through much.
(27:16):
I mean I didn't see their practice, but while they
were warming up and things like that, I did get
opportunity to see that, and I did see him come
on to the court. When he walked onto the court,
he didn't have a limp. But that doesn't mean I
think that doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt, but he
did not have a limp. And when him and I've
seen him and Joe Missoula exchange, you know, they were
in conversation, looked look optimistic, look happy, didn't look like, man,
(27:41):
I'm down in the dumps. I don't know if I
could make it. So I think it's all gonna be
on his pain tolerance when he goes out and tested tomorrow,
shoot around, see if he could move around, and if
he could give it a go. He could give it
a go if you can't. I think there were more
than deep enough to still win a game without him.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
Yeah, I said to Chris earlier. I think his contribution
to the series was Game one. Nobody expected anything that
nobody knew what to expect ed. He came out twenty points,
twenty minutes, twenty minutes, had some blocks as presence. That
win kind of set the tone for the Celtics, who
have struggled at home often in the postseason. What do
(28:18):
you make of his Game one performance and just the
stuff that he did, you know, after not playing for
a long time.
Speaker 6 (28:24):
Well it was big. I mean he was off for
forty days. So the only thing you really worry about
is conditioning. When a guy comes back to being out
for so long, it's like, what is the conditioning, Like, well,
they managed that pretty well. Al Horford played good and
then on top of that, you know, he only played
twenty something minutes. His contribution at the beginning of the
game was huge. I mean, he had eighteen in the
first half, but in the second half he only had
(28:44):
two points, but he did have you know, you know,
some rebounds and being at the rim, if even not
blocking shots, just being a presence there, So that would
be missed. I'm not going to sit here and act
like that's something that we could just gloss over the
fact that, you know, he is a rent protector as well,
and he's a floor stretcher at the five position, So
(29:05):
now Lively or gafferd that have to guard him, they're
pulled away, so guys have open rain to the basket
without a shot blocker being there to deter them. So
I still feel like even with with him being there
in game one, I thought he did a great In
Game two, he had eight points in the second quarter.
It's like he gives us these spurts and that that
(29:27):
can be missed. But I think it can be make
up if collectively by the guys that will be coming
in there replacing him.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Last week, you know, Jason Kidd, I'm sure you everybody
kind of saw through it. He's trying his little gamesmanship,
trying to come in between the Celtics when he said
Jalen Brown is the team's best player. You watched them
all the time. Who do you think is the best
player on the Celtics team.
Speaker 6 (29:52):
I will say, I'm I'm gonna say Jason Tatum. But
I'm not saying that Jalen Brown is far off. I'm
telling you that is we close. The reason why I
give Jason Tatum to now to see six ten and
you can't teach hype. But when you talk about skill set,
Jalen has got tremendously better every single year that I've
been covering his team, and I'm talking about from last
(30:12):
year to this year. Huge jump, his handles a whole
lot tighter, his jump shot is more consistent. He's way
better defensively this year than he was last year. Like
I said, I think Jason Tatum like this is the
difference between them. Jayson Tatum sixty ten with that same
skill set, and Jason Tatum can go get you twelve rebounds,
where I think that I don't know if Jalen Brown
(30:36):
could go get us ten twelve rebounds every single game
and average that. I don't know if Jalen Brown could
be the playmaker that Jason Tatum is.
Speaker 13 (30:44):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
Jayson Tatum had jelf assist with only three turnovers. And
so that's where I'll give Jason the nod on that.
But it's damn close. And I'm and I'm not even
being a home on that. I'm being somebody that understands basketball,
watching basketball, and I see the growth that both of
(31:06):
these players have done. Because I'm gona tell you this,
Jason Tatum three years ago doesn't have twelve at sists. Okay,
Jalen Brown doesn't play the way he's been playing two
three years ago. You know what I'm saying. That they've grown,
they have matured, and that's just part of it. That's
the evolution of you becoming a better player, of becoming
a better person.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Rob and I we talked about that yesterday. We agree
to that Tatum is their best player, but it's closer
than probably most people have thought.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
Question why do you think?
Speaker 1 (31:33):
I mean, you may have seen the stat where Tatum.
We know he's only shooting thirty one percent in these finals,
but even combined with you know twenty two when they
lost to Golden State twenty twenty two, he of all
the players that have attempted more than one hundred and
fifty shots in the finals, he's got the lowest field
goal percentage of all It's like thirty five percent. Why
(31:55):
do you think he has struggled on this big stage?
And is it something for the Celtics to be concerned
about or is something you think he'll break out of.
Speaker 6 (32:06):
I think he don't break out tomorrow, to be real.
I was just talking about that on the show earlier
to Doubt that. They were like, he hasn't shot the
ball well, but he's played well. Everybody gets everybody gets
playing well with you have to be making shots, And
to me that's not nonsense. You play well when you
play well and whatever the game dictates for you to
be doing. And if you're not shooting well, how do
(32:27):
you affect winning? What other ways do you affect winning?
It can't just be being shooting. If you only can
make shots within every game, you're not gonna make shots,
so then you don't affect the game no other way.
He affects the game in so many different ways, and
so I expect him to break out tomorrow. I expect
him to have a really good game. And this is
the reason why he's been seeing these double team. It
(32:50):
is not really a double team, okay, but he's been
seeing all eyes. There's been no gaps, there's been no
areas where he could kind of slip in, and so
all eyes have been on him and he's made the
adjustment to making plays. And that's the luxury of this team.
Your best player doesn't have to have a great shooting
night for you guys still to win because he'll do
other things. And let me also say this because you
(33:12):
said the best player on the team, and it's funny
and you might think that I'm a homer when I'm
saying this, but I'm not. I'm just telling you from
watching this team on any given night, it could be
somebody different.
Speaker 13 (33:22):
You.
Speaker 6 (33:23):
Holliday was the floor.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
I think Drew is the Finals MVP right now.
Speaker 6 (33:27):
Well right now he could be, but things could change
because also you got to look at Derek White as
also possibly a Finals MVP. He don't have the big numbers,
but he got the blocks, he has the I've seen
the stat earlier today and I don't I'm not going
to say because I don't recall exactly, but he was
first in like defensive and three point shooting. Something with
(33:49):
dealing with defense and three point shootings. He's shooting the
most threes and the best percentage from three from on
our squad right now. So, like any given night, like
port Zingis was the best in the first half, and
then Jali Brown took it over in game one and
get in the second half, and then you got Drew
Holliday who was fantastic in game two. Well, Derek White
was still great, and so was Jalen Brown. So when
(34:12):
you talk about the best player on this team any
given night, it could be anybody in any given quarter.
And now I think that's the beauty of the way
that Brad Stevens constructed this team.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
All right, Eddie, appreciate you so much.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
Great job, brother, and congratulations give me again man for real.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
That's thank you.
Speaker 6 (34:27):
I appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
I don't know whether to smile.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Lets you kick a field, go man.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
All right, Chris, let's do it.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Let's kick it off with Matt and Denver. You're on
the couple of Fox Sports Radio. Who you trashing?
Speaker 12 (35:41):
Matt?
Speaker 11 (35:43):
I am trashing Rod Pasenka and g Buzz. I mean,
come on, I mean, how can you bring you in
the biggest coach in college and just let them walk
away without I mean, sick here, one hundred million dollars
would have been good. I mean, six year, seventy million
dollars are just low bawling. The guy makes no sense
(36:04):
to me at all.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
Yeah, I agree with that.
Speaker 5 (36:09):
It is in Corona, California. You're on the couple of
Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Ennis, who you're trash?
Speaker 9 (36:16):
I'll keep it in English this time. I won't trash
Luca in Slovenian, but I'll trash him in English. Luca,
I don't care that you're a turnstyle defensively, I don't
care about that you're there for your offense, but eight turnovers,
you're the reason that Dallas lost this game. And basketball
is the only score for one guy. The best player
(36:36):
on the court can win a series. Win this series.
It's there for you.
Speaker 14 (36:41):
Game one out the window. Game two was a must win.
You gotta win this now, for Zingis isn't gonna play
if you don't win this championship. I don't want to
hear people talking about Luca is the best player.
Speaker 9 (36:52):
In the league anymore. I still don't have him at that,
but he has an argument if he wins it. Stop crying.
Stop whining and stop turning.
Speaker 6 (36:59):
The ball over.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
I love it, nice, Saint Chris.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
I mean, come on, well, Joseph in Indiana, h seven,
Joseph in Indiana, you're in the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Who are you trashing?
Speaker 13 (37:13):
I'm trust charging Lebron James and the LA Lakers. Lebron,
the LA Lakers need to realize Lebron James and them
are not match made in Heaven.
Speaker 11 (37:22):
They're not.
Speaker 13 (37:23):
They have two different things. Lebron wants this guy JJ,
but then the Lakers won some other coach. The Lebron's
gonna realize he's not big at the Lakers. The Lakers
have had more stars than they've ever had. Lebron James
is a small planet compared to the Sun. That the
Lakers are seventeen titles for Lebron James's four. Lebron James
(37:49):
has done nothing.
Speaker 6 (37:50):
In the league.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
My goodness, Joseph, Joseph not taking the.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Right I think you could argue what he's saying something.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
I think it would be something for Yeah. I think uh.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
In Coachella, California, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Who your trash? Israel?
Speaker 15 (38:13):
I'm trashing the Los Angeles Lakers. Uh, this whole, this
whole uh thing that they're doing. Honestly, they're just wasting
the fans times and they're wasting all of our time.
Like what what everyone's saying that every uh that they
wanted to hire they wanted to hire the Yukon coach
(38:34):
just to to I don't know, to to please the
fans or something. That's the biggest piece of you.
Speaker 6 (38:41):
Know what that I've ever heard.
Speaker 15 (38:42):
You know, us fans, we don't care about that. You
just just try to get the best coach available, not
for JJ Raddick or whatever that's I don't know. I
do not agree with none of that. I don't know
what the Lakers are doing. They're a mom and pop
shop in the end, and it's sad. As a Lakers fan,
thank you, I'm we love that.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
It's not a good look for him right now.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Yes, Chris, I'll go.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
I just said, you know, I don't make a big
deal about the off season and all that. I think
it's about training camp and the Aaron Rogers story. It's
something to talk about, but it just doesn't to me.
I'm always gonna value and engage what a player does
when it matters when it matters. There are people all
(39:28):
the time, you know, not the greatest practice players, maybe
not the Dennis Robin was off in Las Vegas. They
used to have to go track him down. But when
he got into the game, he played and he produced.
And that's what people remember is what do you do
when it matters? So I've just never been caught up
(39:49):
on that. The only thing I think, and I think
this is totally separate because we've never seen it was
the Brady stuff. Chris Well, you take eleven days during
like I've never seen that for a anybody, any sport
or anything. And that that was a reason to say
that wasn't fair or selfish. But the old would bother
(40:09):
me if he if he had played great that year,
and they no, still doesn't playoff.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
Okay, So then that that contradicts what you just said.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
No, I just I just don't think that. I think
when you talk about on a it does matter while
you play. But in that case, that was unprecedented to
leave your team for that many days to go on vacation.
That that that's something else. That's like you're saying total disregard.
This is one or two days, eleven days nah.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
It's obviously worse what Brady did. There's no inseriens buts
about that, and I hear, Look, I don't think this
is gonna make or break Aaron Rodgers season, but I
do think things are connected.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
Rober.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
It's like if you and I we were, you know,
supposed to meet and you remember used to meet when
we were both in LA with Rob g and we're
supposed to meet, right. But I'm just saying, if those meetings,
we're all supposed to three of us come together and
plan out the show, if ultimately all that matters would
(41:11):
be how we rocked on the air, right, But let's
say you never.
Speaker 4 (41:15):
Showed up or I never showed up, you know, and.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
After a while, that's making the other guy feel dude,
he never showed like. It just hurts the chemistry and
that can seep into the actual performance.
Speaker 4 (41:29):
So I just think things are connected.
Speaker 1 (41:32):
I agree, it's not the worst thing in the world,
but I think it was a bad looking, a bad
selfish move by Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
So that's who I'm trashing.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
I'm trashing Aaron Rodgers for skipping out on Mini Camp today.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
We'll see if he's there tomorrow, all right, it's the AKA,
but we got an hour left.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
Y'all know what to do.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
Keep it locked
