it was you looked at him and was like wow.

And remember he was one of those guys that they
thought was a can't miss, but the numbers haven't lived up.

We talked about it all last year that he took
a step back.

to take a step forward coming off that playoff win, right, Chris,
that that big playoff comeback.

Look his first year, and you can say for Daniel
Jones that he hasn't been in a good situation, right,
But for his first year under urban Meyer, we know
that was just a disaster. And you know, if some
people don't want to hold that against Trevor and I
get it, but since then he was better a second
year very you know, twenty five touchdowns, eight interceptions, Rob,

I mean, that's that's fine, particularly for your second year.
But last year, Russell Wilson had twenty six touchdowns and
nine interceptions, so basically the same numbers. Trevor few for
more yards. But and then this year, like you said,
Robbie took a step back. They didn't make the playoffs.
Here's what I here's where I'm at on Trevor Lawrence.

I if I were the Jaguars, I was saying this,
I've been saying it all off season. I would not
have extended him. I would not have extended him. Not
that I don't want him as my quarterback. I'm just
saying I haven't quite seen enough I would feel like

he's probably my guy. He's probably my guy. There's reason
to believe he's gonna be our franchise quarterback. Obviously, Rob
the pedigree, the resume, all of that is great. But
before I give somebody two hundred and seventy five million dollars,
I want to be sure it's kind of the same

way i'ment to it. There's different reasons obviously to us
had the injury issues, but I'm like, look, I want
to be sure. Now, Rob, I'll say this, if you
know he's your guy, then it was smart to do
it now. Because we always said the price is only going.

It waited a year. Next year it might be three
hundred million, right, So I'm with that. My take was
this Rob, And I've said the same with Tua, and
you know, I'll say it with many quarterbacks that I'm
not completely sure of. If Trevor came out Rob this
year and has a great let's say I didn't pay him.

I'm owning the Jags and he comes out and has
a great year, I will gladly pay him more. I
would gladly pay him more next offseason. If I am
now one hundred percent sure in my head this is
our guy. This is our guy. And Rob, they've given

like this is the year for him. They giving him
Gabe Davis. Remember with Buffalo Brian Thomas Junior, who's a
very nice receiver they drafted in the first round, and
you already had Christian Kirk, you got Travis at and
as a running back, like he's got the pieces. Now
this is the year to get it done. I'm just
saying I would have waited, and I get it might

have cost me more money, but I would just have
more peace of mind than now.

up feeling like he wasn't their guy.

he's been great. But I'm just saying they the Lions
paid him early. You didn't have to pay him after
three years. That's my thing too, is I don't have
to pay it now. And I just don't think if
it's a CJ.

Stroud situation where he shown me for two, three, three years,
he's that guy.

In fact, the sooner the better because it does keep
the price lower Rock. But I just haven't seen quite
enough from Trevor Lawrence to make me one hundred percent sure.
I'm my feeling is, yeah, he's gonna be the guy likely,
but I just want to see a little more evidence
before I'm willing to pony up that kind of money.

The only problem is there's so few quarterbacks that just
aren't enough guys out there, Chris. So the guys that
you have, their stock goes through the roof because there's
so many teams, thirty two teams, and they're nine quarterbacks,
nine or ten quarterbacks, and that's the problem. So when
you have one, if you don't have one, your season's over.

So people are going to dive in with these guys
because they feel.

Like they almost have who what's what's our alternative? Who's all?

I just think that they think because of what they saw.

His second year he was better, much better and played well.
I'm not gonna see here and act like saying good
player and that he doesn't have promise in all of that.
And like I said, I generally think he probably is.

general it's will pay benefits, this will pay dividends. But
I personally would have been like, man, I want to see.
I want to see because last year he wasn't as good.
And the year before he was fine, but he wasn't.
You know, lights out, he hasn't been what he was.

I just I don't know how you go, how you uh,
how you work against the whole idea, Chris, that you
said you want to see it doesn't mean that even
if you see one more year that he couldn't have
another bad year or two. I don't know how you
really work against that. You gotta have to me feel
like he has what it takes to get there, or

But that's one you know, like like I just want
to see more and I I don't worry about like
if I see enough. Generally the quarter the quarterbacks are
really good. You know, you're not equally good every year.
But I don't get your logic of well, if you
play well next year, that.

Don't mean he's not gonna play. He's gonna play well.

don't understand like you keep saying you okay. So he
plays okay next year or plays better.

I would like to sign a guy before the franchise tag.
Ideally I'd like to sign him after this up coming
season because he plays really well. He just hasn't shown
me consistently or even a lot, even a lot of
inconsistent times, that he's gonna be this star.

So you explain to me, what are they seeing? Why
do you think they signed it? People see?

I mean, I'm asking you, I don't know, rob people disagree.
I mean, they obviously like him, and that's fine because
I think he probably is the guy. I'm just saying,
if I ran the team, I would want to see
more evidence, more consistent play of greatness coming around the
corner than.

might cost me, but I would be willing to pay
that if I was more certain that he's my guy.

I'm just going down to the Rolls Royce place looking around.
If I'm Tua and who else didn't get paid yet

they got to look around being like, oh yeah, oh yeah,
this sounds great.

Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see do they what
they eat that guy got Georgan? Okay, you know, yeah,
I don't know that they'll get more than Trevor. You know,
you look at this pedigree, Rob, but they Jordan was
better last year and you know, obviously over the second
half of the season than Trevor's ever been for a stretch.

I mean the complaining. It starts right with the complaining,
the lack of effort defensively and the carroless fouls. So yeah,
I mean, he's he's twenty five years old. His talent
his disguise of limit for him talent wise, but I
mean we still see a player even at this level,

grow and improve and get better, which is still.

they played the at home, it's just you know, I
didn't see the series playing out that way. I thought
it would be a competitive series, you know, six seven games.
But I mean, do they have enough to not get swept?

I think they they have to dig deep. But I mean,
Jayson Kidd has been there with us with the nets
and we've we've had some moments against the Lakers back
in those two or three. So yeah, I mean this
is disheartening.

It's this performance, Carrie, I Boston. There's been some talk.
It was actually before the series the Boston Globe bro.
If they win the championship, remember that they will be
one of the all time. There's a big case for
them to be one of the greatest teams ever if
they sweep, or even if they don't. But let's say

they sweet. They're sixteen and two in the playoffs, they
won sixty four games. Obviously, they will be the first
team ever to sweep the East. The conference finals and
the finals. They won by an average of eleven points
a game. That's one of the top five margins of
victory in NBA history.

Like all the numbers, greatest offense ever in terms of
offensive rating, third best defense in terms of defensive rating

they had a great run, right, They had a great
stretch of basketball for a good month, month and a
half where they played exceptional basketball, which is hard to sustain.
I mean, the playoffs is intense. You know, everyone's emotions
are high. You know, you're trying to stay on the
same page. You're dealing with all the runs that happened

in the game. Naw, these big wings and big swings,
and you know, you lose a game and now you
have to come back and win. So it's it's tough,
but to lose only two games thus far, it's it's
just a great stretch of basketball. They've been able to
put it all together without that big man for Zingers
in a lot of those games, so that's another bonus
to it. But but trying to compare them to some

of the all time great teams, know that's that's definitely premature.
They have to go back there, like like Tatum said,
they have to run it back next year and prove
to us right that there are that team and that
we can rely on them.

start at a three year old start. I mean, we're
not surprised to see Boston, you know, played the way
they played, but to be up three love and the finals,

I'm just like, but they But Chris talked about it,
like the sixty four wins, what are they won? Fifteen
and two? Seven and oher on the road. They haven't
lost the road playoff game. I mean it's people don't

they struggle with Indiana, they did this, they should have
lost that game, they should have lost this game. But

in the postseason, isn't it just about winning? It's just
shouldn't it just be no style points who's winning.

Yeah, And let's not dismiss the fact that the NBA
a lot of times this matchup problem right right, Like
you have a great all they have some great on
the ball defenders, and Drew Holiday and Jalen Brown and
Tatum when he's locked in, you know, pitches off the bench.
He comes in and he locks down and tries to
make it hard. So you know, obviously Derek White East,

he's all over the place with his activity, his hands
sold and his IQ so de Physively they are solid.
And I think then remember back when when Shaq paid
against the Houston Rockets and it was like they have
Penny and old guys and they went up against Keem
Olajahwhat that's just a matchup problem. So oftentimes in the NBA,
had happens right when you go against teams that just

really met the well against you. You don't have an
answer for him right now? They don't, right. The role
players can't help them at all, whatever reason they can't
get involved. We haven't seen any rim lobs, any lobs
to Gafford and Lively. They haven't done anything. So I
mean Boston is locked in on both ends of the court,
and they didn't care right when he said Jenny Brown

is better than Tatum, I mean these three games, I was.

and so he's hungry for a title, and I mean
it's it's a it's a great run for the Suer
this year. I'm happy for him, and and it's you know,
I'm sad to see the Masks that didn't give him
much of a fight. Hopefully they at least ticket to Farge.

What about Missoula, I mean the question marks about him
and uh, maybe he won the right guy by and
things didn't work out. This will be big for him
that the Celtics put him on. He wasn't even on
the main bench when he was assistant coach. He was
on the second group. And now this guy is on
the cusp of winning a championship.

Yeah, listen, he's a he's a very very good young coach.
You know, the jury is still out, and I will
say this with Chris said earlier, it's just a roster man.
They're on paper, they are so much deeper than the mask.
But yeah, I mean, listen, he got those guys ready
for those tough roll games. They had to go win
the Indiana They went in there and won some games.

You know, they came in and and and really laid
the hammer on Dallas. They came came up the gates
flow in game three, but really fought back. So he's
been able to put their buttons. He's got Tatum and
Brown figuring out how to play well together and and
and buy in. Yeah, he's a he's a great young coach.

Carrie. If you were coaching or in the front office
for the MAVs, let's say they whether they get swept
or in five, whatever it is, what are your main
priorities like this off season that you want to change
correct ad whatever for next year.

I mean, how do you how do you take pressure
off of Kyrie and Luca where they feel well. Listen,
we've seen Luca by his fourth quarter stats are really
you know, abysmal, right, It's like fourth quarter he has
no gas in the tank. So he has to get
in shape.

Is he out of shape? I was just going to
say that he's out of shot.

Yeah, yeah, he's the where tell the season, trying to
go for that MVP. You know, thirty four points nine rebound.
I mean, he's put a lot of models this year
on his body, so he's got to get in better
shape physically. We know that everyone said that he can't
he can't continue to do that. But as far as
the rest of the team, they definitely needed a sniper.

I don't know where you can find one. But until
you can space the court where he can have more
space to operate, they're gonna shrink the court and make
him into a passer and he's going to be taking
a lot of tough shots. He's not going to pass.
He's going to continue to look to score, but they
have to find that the right pieces around him. Definitely
go through some three and d guys. That's what they need.

They have size up front, right, I think it's mostly
just the shooting. Three point shooting is a you know,
a priority in today's game.

Carry, When you went to the finals your first time,
did you know that, like, did it put a strain
on you physically as far as stamina and stuff like,
because obviously you're not used to playing that many games
in the season.

You know, talk about before. Today's more modern game is
a lot more running, and it's taxing on the body.
It's taxing on the joints. We're seeing the injuries and

was more slow paced. You know, you can rest on defense.
Now you can't rush. You have to go chase guys
off the line, and you have to go all those
dribble handoff and driving kicks and so yeah, it's a
harder game now on the body.

But for his first year under urban Meyer, we know

But last year, Russell Wilson had twenty six touchdowns and

I if I were the Jaguars, I was saying this,
I've been saying it all off season. I would not
have extended him. I would not have extended him. Not
that I don't want him as my quarterback. I'm just
saying I haven't quite seen enough I would feel like

he's probably my guy. He's probably my guy. There's reason
to believe he's gonna be our franchise quarterback. Obviously, Rob
the pedigree, the resume, all of that is great. But
before I give somebody two hundred and seventy five million dollars,
I want to be sure it's kind of the same

way i'ment to it. There's different reasons obviously to us
had the injury issues, but I'm like, look, I want
to be sure. Now, Rob, I'll say this, if you
know he's your guy, then it was smart to do
it now. Because we always said the price is only going.

It waited a year. Next year it might be three
hundred million, right, So I'm with that. My take was
this Rob, And I've said the same with Tua, and
you know, I'll say it with many quarterbacks that I'm

year and has a great let's say I didn't pay him.

I'm owning the Jags and he comes out and has
a great year, I will gladly pay him more. I
would gladly pay him more next offseason. If I am
now one hundred percent sure in my head this is
our guy. This is our guy. And Rob, they've given

like this is the year for him. They giving him
Gabe Davis. Remember with Buffalo Brian Thomas Junior, who's a
very nice receiver they drafted in the first round, and
you already had Christian Kirk, you got Travis at and
as a running back, like he's got the pieces. Now
this is the year to get it done. I'm just
saying I would have waited, and I get it might

have cost me more money, but I would just have
more peace of mind than now.

paid him early. You didn't have to pay him after
three years. That's my thing too, is I don't have
to pay it now. And I just don't think if
it's a CJ.

Stroud situation where he shown me for two, three, three years,
he's that guy.

In fact, the sooner the better because it does keep
the price lower Rock. But I just haven't seen quite
enough from Trevor Lawrence to make me one hundred percent sure.
I'm my feeling is, yeah, he's gonna be the guy likely,
but I just want to see a little more evidence
before I'm willing to pony up that kind of money.

The only problem is there's so few quarterbacks that just
aren't enough guys out there, Chris. So the guys that
you have, their stock goes through the roof because there's
so many teams, thirty two teams, and they're nine quarterbacks,
nine or ten quarterbacks, and that's the problem. So when
you have one, if you don't have one, your season's over.

So people are going to dive in with these guys
because they feel.

Like they almost have who what's what's our alternative? Who's all?

If you own the Jags, would you have paid him now?
Or would you take my approach where you wait?

I just think that they think because of what they saw.
And I'll be the first to say he took a
step back last.

Year and it wasn't like it. I mean, he wasn't awesome.
His second year he was better, much better and played well.
I'm not gonna see here and act like saying good
player and that he doesn't have promise in all of that.
And like I said, I generally think he probably is.
I mean, he clearly is now, but I think in

general it's will pay benefits, this will pay dividends. But
I personally would have been like, man, I want to see.
I want to see because last year he wasn't as good.
And the year before he was fine, but he wasn't.
You know, lights out, he hasn't been what he was.

I just I don't know how you go, how you uh,
how you work against the whole idea, Chris, that you
said you want to see it doesn't mean that even
if you see one more year that he couldn't have

really good. You know, you're not equally good every year.

But I mean, do they have enough to not get swept?

I think they they have to dig deep. But I mean,
Jayson Kidd has been there with us with the nets
and we've we've had some moments against the Lakers back

is disheartening.

If they win the championship, remember that they will be
one of the all time. There's a big case for
them to be one of the greatest teams ever if

won sixty four games. Obviously, they will be the first
team ever to sweep the East. The conference finals and
the finals. They won by an average of eleven points
a game. That's one of the top five margins of
victory in NBA history.

they had a great run, right, They had a great
stretch of basketball for a good month, month and a
half where they played exceptional basketball, which is hard to sustain.

are high. You know, you're trying to stay on the
same page. You're dealing with all the runs that happened

in the game. Naw, these big wings and big swings,
and you know, you lose a game and now you
have to come back and win. So it's it's tough,
but to lose only two games thus far, it's it's
just a great stretch of basketball. They've been able to
put it all together without that big man for Zingers
in a lot of those games, so that's another bonus
to it. But but trying to compare them to some

of the all time great teams, know that's that's definitely premature.
They have to go back there, like like Tatum said,
they have to run it back next year and prove
to us right that there are that team and that
we can rely on them.

a lot of times this matchup problem right right, Like
you have a great all they have some great on

He comes in and he locks down and tries to
make it hard. So you know, obviously Derek White East,

he's all over the place with his activity, his hands
sold and his IQ so de Physively they are solid.
And I think then remember back when when Shaq paid
against the Houston Rockets and it was like they have
Penny and old guys and they went up against Keem
Olajahwhat that's just a matchup problem. So oftentimes in the NBA,
had happens right when you go against teams that just

really met the well against you. You don't have an
answer for him right now? They don't, right. The role
players can't help them at all, whatever reason they can't
get involved. We haven't seen any rim lobs, any lobs
to Gafford and Lively. They haven't done anything. So I
mean Boston is locked in on both ends of the court,
and they didn't care right when he said Jenny Brown

What about Missoula, I mean the question marks about him
and uh, maybe he won the right guy by and
things didn't work out. This will be big for him
that the Celtics put him on. He wasn't even on
the main bench when he was assistant coach. He was
on the second group. And now this guy is on

Yeah, listen, he's a he's a very very good young coach.
You know, the jury is still out, and I will

They're on paper, they are so much deeper than the mask.

flow in game three, but really fought back. So he's

we've seen Luca by his fourth quarter stats are really

no gas in the tank. So he has to get
in shape.

the rest of the team, they definitely needed a sniper.

I don't know where you can find one. But until
you can space the court where he can have more
space to operate, they're gonna shrink the court and make
him into a passer and he's going to be taking
a lot of tough shots. He's not going to pass.
He's going to continue to look to score, but they
have to find that the right pieces around him. Definitely
go through some three and d guys. That's what they need.

They have size up front, right, I think it's mostly
just the shooting. Three point shooting is a you know,
a priority in today's game.

Now you can't rush. You have to go chase guys
off the line, and you have to go all those
dribble handoff and driving kicks and so yeah, it's a
harder game now on the body.

would be garbage. I think there was a very similar
situation when Detroit won their first championship and it was
clearly Isaiah Thomas' team.

He was the best player, but du Mars was close.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
You know, he was a legitimate All Star himself, just
like Brown, and du Mars was better in those finals,
and he won the finals. MVP averaged twenty seven points
a game, and Isaiah was fine. Isaiah was as happy
as a lark, right. But my point, it's a team game.
(36:39):
I'm saying, I don't care if I'm one of those guys.

I don't care who was the finals MVBA.

know there is that extra element that you.

And I get all that, But I'm just saying, like,
I don't think it'll be fair. If people are critical
of Tatum. You can call out he didn't play as
well as he should have, but to act like it's
less of a championship for him, I mean, Steph has
four championships, only one finals. MVP Kareem has six championships

only two finals MVPs. Like Bird didn't win the finals
MVP is first time Magic didn't win, only won three
out of five finals MVPs. So you know it should
not be in any way looked down upon, or Tatum
shouldn't be belittled if indeed, which looks like very likely,
(37:36):
he's not the finals MVP.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
That's all I'm saying, Rob.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
Yeah, I don't think you can hold it against him, Tatum.
They won well, you know, everybody was saying that that
they couldn't get it done, they couldn't win. Once you win,
you win, and you and it doesn't matter at that point.
The only way that that really affects you, Chrits I think,
or you could have people can question where you fit
(37:59):
in as if they say, won three championships and Tatum
didn't win any of the finals MVP, then you might
be able to go like.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Was he really the main guy?
Speaker 4 (38:09):
Like that's the only way, Like if he win one
next year, I mean Brown wanted this year, Chris next
year Tatum won, if they won back to back or so,
it wouldn't matter. That's the only way it would really
affect him. Other than that, I don't think anybody he's
a chair. He'll be a champion, that's all that matters.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Yeah, And I also think we talk about this all
the time. When you're talking about goat, you nit pick, right,
And if you were in some type of goat debate, oh,
that that becomes an issue. But he's not gonna be
in that obviously, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
