Speaker 4 (01:38):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
What do you got planned for Father's Day?

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Yes, I'm gonna be all over surprising you or or
you know what you're doing.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
I'm speaking first of all, tomorrow, I speaking at at church.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
I saw that.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Where is that?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
No, that's in Jersey. Okay, here in Jersey. And then
we're actually we're doing a lot this weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
My wife and I going to a bar mitzvah or
very nice one of her partners in their practice, his
son or is I think you know that.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
It's a bar.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
It's a bar if it was a girl, so it's
a bar mitzvah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So you know me,
I'm one of the chosen people. I know all about this, Okay.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
And then Sunday, while my wife and I were driving
down to Philly to see my daughter, we're gonna go
to church with her and then uh, she's taking us
out to brunch.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
I do know where we're going, so it won't be
a surprise.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
But well, that's nice. That's a good weekend.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
It'll be good. It'll be good.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
What about you just be chilling thinking about all the
kids I could have and uh, his father's.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Some one of your minte's taking you no, you know
what like that.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
My nephew and my nieces they always call and they
you know, they have their fathers or whatever. But they
always say I'm like a second father to them, you
know what I mean, which is real nice and uh,
but but they have their fathers, you know what I mean.
And but they respect me from that standpoint and guidance
and all that, and people will reach out to me
and say thanks for helping me along. So, uh, you know,

(03:10):
we almost I was almost a father Chris, almost.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Are you?

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Yeah? When we were when we were always married, we
lost a baby. But yeah, but you know, I always say,
it just wasn't meant to be, you know what I mean. Uh,
and uh, it would have been cool. It would have
been cool.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
I think it would have been a decen you know
what it was.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
No, it wasn't that far along.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Yeah, yeah, but my mom had two miscarriages before I
was born.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
That's what a lot of people do. It's kept pretty common,
you know what I mean. It really is more common
than you would know because most people don't talk about it, right,
they don't go like a count or whatever.

Speaker 5 (03:44):
But but yeah, happy Father's Day to all the fathers
out there and to you.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Chris and your wife and your daughters are celebrating.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
All right, Well, let's introduce the Eye Couple crew and
get it started.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
On the updates. You heard him a minute ago, Steve
the Sager on Running Thanks super producer. Is So we
got Patrick.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Sweek Pat, Hey, Patrick, what's up? Chris?

Speaker 3 (04:12):
What's up Ronn? We're doing good. We're having fun. Patrick.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Chris is uh losing weight and eating healthy and he
looks great. I'm Patrick, I'm sorry for that's good.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
Yeah. Patrick, he's a great guy, full of energy, but
he's he's consciously just trying to eat better, do some stuff.
But you look great, Patrick, for real, Thank you, thank you.
I really appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
That's impressive.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
On the updates, Elijah Sebun not the update social media.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Elijah Sabun is back. Elijah, welcome back.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
I don't think well, Elijah, how you come back off
of vacation to work on Friday, Friday before Father's Day?

Speaker 3 (04:53):
And you know Elijah has a beautiful bounce of baby boy.
He's a workhorse, happy for.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
And of course on the ones and twos, Alex tight
shit is out.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
So we got.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Crates on a funky Friday.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
What's up?

Speaker 6 (05:15):
Mary?

Speaker 3 (05:15):
How you it's a good Friday. I think I'm going
to go out later tonight.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, go ahead and do your thing, all right, Rob,
let's get into it. Kaitlyn Clark, I mean, my goodness,
every time she turned around.

Speaker 5 (05:27):
She's in hot water, heavy conversation, you know.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
So our our friend Jim Trotter, I don't know if
it was yesterday, asked her a question. I guess you know,
I'm not on the social media like that, Rob, where
I'm yeah your tweets about you know, no, you know,
I do my thing on it, but I'm not like
following every little thing. And apparently there are people that

(05:56):
have been using not really in the traditional media, Rob.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
I don't think.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Although we called the task we took, uh Chicago Tribune,
the task.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
That was that that was about it.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
It was terrible, absolutely, and but Jim Trotter asked Caitlin
Clark about uh, you know, her name being used to
I guess promote or do you worry he used was
weaponized to promote certain ideologies or whatever.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Here's what she said. This was in the morning. I
think we have it.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
We have it.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
If we don't, yeah, sitting here with dead air, here
we go. Uh, I think we have it?

Speaker 4 (06:42):
All right?

Speaker 1 (06:43):
So so all right, So she she basically just said,
you say, yeah, I just you know, it doesn't she
didn't like she was asked if it bothers her, and
she said, no, I don't even see it, she said,
I'm just you know, I'm kind of oblivious.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Matter what you do, for what it's done to you
will becomes a top of the.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
National and a lot of times it comes to life.

Speaker 6 (07:06):
Year.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
I wonder, from your stadpoint, how do you feel about
people using your native and whatever culture wars or whatever
wars they're firing.

Speaker 8 (07:13):
How do you feel about it?

Speaker 9 (07:15):
It's not something I can control, so you know, I
don't put too much thought and time into thinking about
things like that. And to be honest, I don't see
a lot of it, Like I said, like Bastell's my job,
like everything on the outside, I can't control that, So
I'm not going to spend time thinking about that.

Speaker 7 (07:32):
You know, people can talk about what they want to
talk about.

Speaker 10 (07:35):
Three conversations about.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
You know, whatever it is.

Speaker 9 (07:37):
But I think for myself, like, you know, I'm just
here to play basketball.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
All right.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
So so she was that's their first response. In the morning,
I guess I had to shoot around.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
So that was Jim Trotta, right, Yes, yeah, they've just
got a breaking news story. Uh, the NFL has fired
him again, Roger Goodell. So I mean, all right, all.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Right, so they the afternoon or she was asked about
it again, rob and she had a different response.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Here here we have that here she is if we
have kilen I you mentioned that.

Speaker 11 (08:09):
You know, you want to popus right on basketball, and
we definitely respect that when just asking our rich the
people use your name to racist and misogyny or whatever
what is yours to best?

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Yeah, I think it's disappointing.

Speaker 9 (08:22):
I think, you know, everybody in our world, you know,
who serves them the same amount of respect. The women
in our league deserve the same amount of respect. So
people should not be using my name to prospose agendas.
It's disappointing, It's not acceptable. But yeah, I mean, this
league is the league I grew up admiring and wanting
to be a part of. Like some of the women
in this league, were my biggest idols and role models

(08:43):
growing up and helped me wanting to achieve this moment
right here that I get to play in every single night.
So just treating every single woman this league with the
same amount of respect. I think it's just a basic
human thing that everybody should do, like, you know, just
be a kind person and treat them, you know, how.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
You would want to be treated.

Speaker 12 (08:59):
And I think it's very simple.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
All right, Rob, What are your thoughts on though? Two
different answers.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Yeah, I just say she's twenty two years old. I
don't expect her to be at some advocate Chris activists,
I mean, is what the word I wanted to use? Activists?
You know, like they're asking you a question about some
of these things, stuff that she hasn't even seen or
she doesn't all already know how she's supposed to respond

(09:25):
to everything that's attached to her name, Do you know
what I mean? I just I think it's a it's
an impossible scenario and situation. And I think after she
realized like okay, what's going on, and then she just
made a kind of a blanket statement that everybody should
be treated fair and equal and all that kind of stuff.
That's what you say. I don't expect her, Chris, to

(09:46):
stand on a soapbox. I don't expect her, at twenty
two years old, thrust into this to have all the
world's answers and solutions and whatnot. And I'm cool with that.
I'm cool with it.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Yeah, it's an interesting thing.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
First thing I thought about when this story was developing, Rob,
was remember when she even before she got into the league,
before she got drafted, there were people saying, Okay, is
she going to resurrect the WNBA like Michael Jordan did
the NBA.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Right, And she's.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
The Jordan of the WNBA. She's the Jordan of women's
basketball that stuff. And it's interesting, Rob, because there have
been a lot of similarities in the early parts of
their curtain. Now she Jordan took the league by storm immediately,
she hasn't done that. But as far as you know,
players in the league testing him and her, we know

(10:41):
about the alleged ice out of Jordan in the All
Star Game, and you know she's obviously you know which
I don't have a problem with the veterans going at her,
you know, making it tough on her in the first
year as a rookie and even some if.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
There's resentment there because of all the attention.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
She's getting and they have put in this work and
haven't gotten it, and then we know rob. Michael Jordan
was not outspoken about social He was criticized.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
A lot of us wanted him to be.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
As much as we love Jordan as a player, I
do wish he was more outspoken.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
He had an American issue, Chris. He had the platform.
He had the platform, and although it's not a real
quote attached to Michael Jordan about Republicans by sneakers too,
Mike could have said some things, got some things done,
and he didn't want to get involved in that, and
he was criticized for it. Nobody gave there nobody, nobody

(11:36):
gave him a pass because they thought that Mike uh
had a platform and could have not on everything. I
said the same thing about Tiger Woods, not on everything,
but but but Chris, the thing that would would that
disappointed me about Tiger Woods was like at Augusta when
they didn't have any black or female members. That's something

(11:57):
that he could affect, not not school admissions and all
these other things, but he could have easily said until
you'll start letting in black members and females. I'm not
gonna play it, Augusta. How long would it have taken
for them, Chris to bring in black members and females.
Am I right? That's power?

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Well, and look, we don't have to even explain that
African Americans have been historically, just to put it, lightly
discriminated against in this country and it still goes on today.
So when you do have African Americans who are to
let's just I'm gonna use the word untouchable.

Speaker 4 (12:37):
Right like, and that's the right word.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
That's the right world, Jordan tiger Wood.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
They can't do it anything so good and.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
They're so irreplaceable that they can really advocate and get
things done. Because, like I said all the time, Rob,
we know Colin Kaepernick knelt down, you know, for the anthem,
and you know it got taken all sorts away because
he really meant that out of respect, you know, but
he obviously spoke out.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
He was making a stance, taking.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
A stance against police brutality, which is a good stance,
and he obviously his.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Career suffered for it.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
There's no I have no and I don't know that
you know, he wasn't a star at that point anymore,
but he certainly was good enough to be in the league,
and he suffered because he spoke out. I've always said, Rob,
if Patrick Mahomes did that very exact same thing that
Colin Kaepernick did, there's obviously he being the league, yep,

(13:36):
and it would have been it would have I mean, heck,
it might have become a trend for all we know,
and it did to a little degree with Kaepernick, but
it would have been totally different. Patrick Mahomes is irreplaceable,
so he can speak out. And I'm not trying to
I'm not jumping on I'm just using him as an example.
But if you're that level, you can really get things
done for your people who have been historically discriminated against

(14:00):
in this country. So you're right, we do want that done.
I got more to say on Caitlin Clarke Ross.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
So I want to do this.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
We'll break here and then we'll take calls at the
thirty we'll take I want to talk about it.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
A little more in the next segment, and then it will.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
Take calls at the at the four thirty Pacific seven
thirty Eastern mark. It's the odd Couple, Christ and Rob
keep it Lot Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 13 (14:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 14 (14:33):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing. We
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.

Speaker 15 (14:41):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly
because this guy on the over promising things we never
have time for. Yeah, you blubber list Jam and me.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Well, you know what it's called over promise.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
You should be good at it because you've been over
promising women for you.

Speaker 15 (15:00):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich.

Speaker 14 (15:16):
Make sure you check out over Promised and also Uncensored,
by the way, so maybe we'll go at it even
a little harder. It's gonna be the best after show
podcast of all time.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
There you go, over Promising.

Speaker 15 (15:26):
Remember you could see it on YouTube, but definitely join us.
Listen to over Promised with Cavino and Rich on the
iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
All right, it's the add couple Chris and Rob live
from the tirereg dot com Studios.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Nice start, Mary, Mary, Nice start. All right, Rob.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
We're talking about Caitlin Clark and you know her people
kind of calling on her to speak out. I guess
about some of the things that are being attached to her.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Not no, no fault of her own, but I'll say
this Rob her.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
So in the morning she had a very bland answer.
In the afternoon or evening she addressed it with a
little more vigor. I do think and a lot of
people might not agree with this Robe or believe it.
First of all, I do think it's very possible when
she said I don't see it, I believe her in that.

(16:32):
I don't know what her social media habits are.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
But because she's such a big start, there's no way
she sees everything.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
It's just not right.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
Like I'm not like Patrick's Twitter where there's four people
on it.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
I'm just I'm sorry Patrick, No, but you know it's true.
I mean, not bad about Patrick, but I mean it's
like I'm not I obviously put stuff out on social media,
but I'm not in my phone looking at social media
all the time. I don't know what people are saying
about me generally, you know, I see some comments, some response.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
I don't. Yeah, I don't, and she may very well
be there.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
And I'll say this, Rob, if I was a professional athlete,
I definitely would not be all up in my mentions
and seeing it.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
Money, that's what there you go.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
But but I certainly wouldn't be trying to see what
everybody's saying about me. You don't need all that stuff
in your head. But anyway, so I think that's legitimate.
I do think before she spoke in the evening that
someone spoke to her and either saying, look, you do
need to address this in a certain way.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
It's being spun negatively.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Whatever what you said this morning is being spun or
taken negatively, whatever it is, but you need to say
something you know, more substantial or they may have told her, Rob,
Look you might not have seen it, but this is
what's out there. This is what people are tweeting and
a soul you with and using. This is why I
use the word weaponized. And then she made a legitimate

(18:06):
statement in the evening Rob. Now, when she made her
morning statement, one of the players in the WNBA who
she had a little little beef with, I guess light
beef in the game with the Connecticut Sun Guard deja
A Carrington and so Carrington posted this Rob on social

(18:27):
media after Caitlin spoke, she said, dog, how one cannot
be bothered by their name being used to justify racism, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia,
and the intersectionalities of them all is nuts.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
We all see.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
The blank, we all have a platform, we all have
a voice, and they all hold weight. Silence is a luxury.
I got comments on that. Do you want to comment
on that?

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Rob?

Speaker 4 (18:54):
First, I just think it's a combination and Chris, I
think there's two things. There's two worlds we live in
and unfortunately we have a bigger burden because we live
it every day. It's a part of our life. And
for other Yeah, do you know what I'm saying where

(19:16):
ITA's other people that's not on the top of their
list or what's happening as much. And I'm not making
an excuse, I'm not, but I just I hear what
you're saying. You know, it's not that I'm not making
an excuse because wrong with But that doesn't mean because

(19:39):
you know you're conscious or you see everything or whatever
it is, that you know for sure that she's seen
some of this stuff and has turned.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
Her back award, you know for sure she probably has.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
And that's what I'm saying, Chris, that that's that's different.
That's that's different to me. If if somebody told you about, uh,
some incident that everybody know world saw it, and you
are that's a good totally oblivious to it, right right then,
then I'm gonna assume that you rather not or you're

(20:09):
ignoring it. Okay, that's what That's what I'm gonna exsume.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Right now that that's a fair point.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
And I would say this, I mean Dja Nay Carrington
mentioned a lot of different things and then she says
intersectionalities like they're all related and in agreement. Rob, these
are nuanced situations. You may agree on some of these
things and disagree on others. You and I pretty much
agree on racism and different issues regarding racism. We disagree

(20:41):
on certain things regarding sexuality. Yes, you know what I'm saying. So,
I mean, are they saying every w NBA player, now,
certainly we want you to speak out about racism or
be have a certain viewpoint that all human beings are
created equals, should be treated even.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
The same, and no knowledge based on race, all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
It should be across the board, but particularly in the
w NBA or the NBA where it's their leagues that
are you know, led by black people. But again it
should be across the board. But some of the other stuff,
people are gonna disagree. I mean, you may have one view,
you may be lead left wing so to speak, on racism,

(21:25):
and then you may agree more with right wing on
certain other things. And so you can assume everybody has
the same views. And when I saw Rob a lot
of the.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
A lot of.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
The comments today on television, it was like some former
players or players in the w NBA, we're saying, advocacy
is a part of our league, and we advocate, you know,
we advocate for this, we advocate for that.

Speaker 8 (21:55):
You know.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
So that's been a big part of our league, and
so you do have a responsibility to speak out. Well,
And I'm like, Rob, I've said it before. This is
not new from me. We like when people speak out
or athletes in this case, or entertainers or whatever. We
like when they speak out about something we agree with
them on.

Speaker 9 (22:14):
Right.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
I love it when Lebron speaks out against racism, or
when what Kaepernick did and all that. But if somebody
saying something I disagree with, I may not really be
feeling it.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
And I'm saying, what if, Like they want Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
To be an advocate, and certainly, again she should be
an ally in the fight against racism, But Rob, what
if she is incredibly outspoken about abortion and she was
against abortion, you know, and she's pro life in that regard, Dude,
do you want her to be outspoken on that cause

(22:51):
that might What if that's her viewpoint.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
I'm just throwing something out.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
You know, what if she's very outspoken on I don't
think biological men should be playing sports against biological women.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
Do you want her to be outspoken about that?

Speaker 1 (23:05):
And you know, I've heard the WNBA today it's diverse,
it's inclusive. Well, you gotta be inclusive for people with
other views sometimes too.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
So you can't just assume.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
Everybody in that leaves gonna have the same views on
some of these some of these topics, and that's where
you you know, this speaking out and all that can
be different. You know, I was there was one girl
Raps She went on ESPN years ago and said she
retired from the WNBA because she felt discriminated against because

(23:41):
she wasn't because she was straight.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
That was on ESPN, And so.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
You can't everybody in the WNBA is not going to
have the same viewpoint on some of these topics that
I'm talking about. DJ Nay mentioned and the intersectionality He's
there connected, but they can be connected in different ways
for different people. So that that's my comment on it.
But you know she's gonna learn Rob Heavy as the

(24:09):
head that wears the crown, she you know, hopefully shall
educate herself on some things and maybe you know, she
will decide to use that for advocacy. I do say
Rob White athletes, I think it'd be great, and I
would encourage those who I would encourage them to study
these things, especially when they're in a primarily black sport

(24:31):
and be able to speak out about it, because we
do need allies, if you will, when fighting against racism
who are part of the majority culture.

Speaker 4 (24:42):
Well, we saw that. So we saw that with Aaron Rodgers.
You remember Chris where Aaron Rodgers and this was about
Kaepernick that it was never about the flag.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
Do you remember that?

Speaker 7 (24:53):
Yep?

Speaker 4 (24:53):
He stood up and he said, it was never about
the money, never about the flag. This is what this
was about. He didn't have to say anything. Is that
his fight? He didn't, right, but he felt compelled and
some people didn't like it, you know what I mean.
So I always say it is a there's both sides.
There's no doubt, all right.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
A seven seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
That's hurting the way in on Caitlin Clark, yet another
controversy that she is in broad in A seven seven
ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
But first, here's Steve de Seger with the update.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
Steve Gentlemen, NBA season could be ending tonight.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
That's crazy, not really, I've seen the games.

Speaker 12 (25:30):
Game four NBA Finals right TOMPs Boston up three games
to none and playing at Dallas again again. They'll tip
off in just over an hour. Kristaps Porzingis of the
Celtics was listed as questionable tonight, went through a pregame
workout observed by the Boston medical staff, and his coach
says Porzingis is available, but quote he will only be

(25:50):
used in specific instances if necessary end quote. Boston has
won ten straight games over about the last month. No
NBA team has ever gone through the fire two rounds
without a loss, and of course no NBA team has
blown a three games to none lead to lose finals
or not. The NBA will play a regular season game
in Mexico City in November Miami against Washington. Just two

(26:13):
WNBA games tonight that includes one to twelve Washington hosting Chicago.
Stanley Cup Game four is Saturday night. Florida, which has
now won six straight, plays at Edmonton again. Ludwig Obert
is the leader by one stroke at the US Open
Golf tournament in Pinehurst, North Carolina. As they're winding down
round number two. Bryson Deshambo is in a group of

(26:34):
four golfers that are one stroke back tied for second place.
Patrick Cantley shot seventy one. He's in the tie for second.
Tiger Woods is going to miss the cut currently it's
at five over par. He is seven over par so
also out for the weekend due to be Jason Day,
Ricky Fowler, Dustin Johnson and others. Scottie Scheffler could be
just making the cut at five over. Soccer's Euro Championship

(26:57):
started today Germany, the host defeated Scotland five one. The
tournament final will be in Berlin in a month. Germany
outshot him today twenty to nothing. Fox TV has twenty
nine of the Eurogames, including today, plus FS one has
seventeen of these games, and the Copeamerica Soccer Tournament. South
America's title tourney starts Thursday. It'll be held in the

(27:19):
US this time, so they've invited the US, Mexico and
others to participate. Games of that tournament will be on
Fox an FS one. In Major League Baseball, today Saint
Louis was a three to nothing winner at the Cubs.
Yankees at Boston in a rain delay at the starts
and padres at Mets in a rain delay at the
start Houston, with a record of thirty one and thirty

(27:39):
eight will be hosting Detroit and pitcher Trek scoobl who's
eight and one for the Tigers. Houston cut first baseman
Jose Abreu Nationals out to a three to one lead
over the Marlins bottom of the third.

Speaker 3 (27:50):
Back to you, Ah, Steve, Thank you, Steve. It's the
odd couple.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Chris and Rob live from the tire rack dot Com studios.
We want to throw it out to you eight seven
ninety nine on Fox. You'll turn to comment if you
want to on this Caitlyn clark uh situation where you
know she's being called on to speak out about some issues.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
Your thoughts?

Speaker 4 (28:13):
All right, Mark and Sacramento, you're on the couple of
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Mark?

Speaker 6 (28:18):
What's going on? Gentlemen? How you guys doing today? Great?

Speaker 4 (28:20):
How are you bro?

Speaker 8 (28:21):
How are you doing doing good? This is a this
is a real tricky topic for people to talk about
because you guys industry, they'll come after you and try
to cancel you. Guys, so you have to be careful
what you say, and so are the athletes. But what
they want her to speak on, Chris, you touched on
its touch your subjects inside.

Speaker 7 (28:39):
The WNBA that you have to be careful with a
lot of them, Rachel.

Speaker 8 (28:44):
A lot of them has something to do with, like
you say, sexuality.

Speaker 6 (28:46):
The LBGT and what's going on.

Speaker 8 (28:49):
And they want her to step across that line. And
she's a Christian white woman who has a boyfriend. I'm
gonna say it.

Speaker 16 (28:56):
That's tough for her to do. And they try to
force her to be advocates on the other side. Sometimes
you can't, like you said, Chris, pick, you pick what
you want to.

Speaker 8 (29:06):
To to, uh stick your neck out any and some
things you just don't with that one.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
She but she can't be she can't be asked to
do to tackle everything.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
There are reasons and stuff.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
If I want to say something about something that is
important or dear to me, you know what I mean,
Or I feel Chris compelled, but I'm not. I'm not
gonna sit up here every day and and pick to
pick something up every day. It's just not gonna work.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
That's one reason Mark and Rob that sports has been,
you know, been able to bring it together these different
cultures and races and groups of people, unlike any other
institution in our society.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
Because ultimately it's about the sports.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Now, athletes have used it thankfully to speak out at times,
but at the end of the day, you have to
remember it is ultimately about the sport, and so that's
where if it becomes too.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
About advocacy one.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Way or the other, then that can you know, hurt
the hurt the sport, so to speak.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
So appreciate it and.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Rob That woman I mentioned that retired from the WNBA
was Candice Wiggins.

Speaker 12 (30:22):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
She played at Stanford and she.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
Said she was targeted for harassment during her eight year
WNBA career because she was heterosexual.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
So yeah, I'm.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
Sure she's the only heterosexual woman in the w NBA. No,
I'm just surprised that if that was the case with her.
I mean, anybody we did hear about. Oh, well, I'm
just saying other people. I'm just saying other people.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
She she referred to it.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Now, I gotta believe I'm sure this was an overstatement.
You know, she she quoted you know it was ninety
eight percent gay. But I'm sure that's that's an overstake.
But anyway, that's what she said.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
Alex in Florida, a couple of Fox Sports rader, what's up, Alex.

Speaker 6 (31:02):
What's good, fellas, How y'all doing.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Good man?

Speaker 6 (31:04):
How are you good?

Speaker 8 (31:07):
Listen?

Speaker 7 (31:07):
Like y'all has said it, the lady is I don't
even say lady, I'm fifty years old. She's twenty two
ship right right, you know what I mean? She she
is nowhere in the world. She has a view on everything,
and you know what I mean, let her grow up,
let her you know what I mean, if they but
I like her response the first maybe the first the

(31:28):
first response was very you know, empty and zero because
maybe maybe that's what it is. Who knows, but the
chick is twenty two years old? What she she went
behind me.

Speaker 3 (31:42):
Out there?

Speaker 4 (31:42):
Yeah, Chris, I believe that.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
I believe yeah, because I didn't even know about a
lot of it.

Speaker 6 (31:46):
You know.

Speaker 7 (31:47):
That's not to say that she's not ignorant or that
she's ignorant on stop, you know what I mean? Because
the second statement, you know what I mean, maybe, like
you said, maybe somebody informed her this is what's being said,
whatever whatever the case may it be. And her statement
was across the board kind of what you want to
hear from somebody that how might how Mike used to
be very you know what I mean, very I want

(32:12):
to say it. You know what I mean? Her live
her life? Man, You know what I mean?

Speaker 6 (32:16):
No doubt's know what I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (32:17):
She ty two her living life.

Speaker 4 (32:18):
Thanks Alex, appreciate it. Randy in New Orleans joined the
Odd Couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Randy?

Speaker 6 (32:25):
What's going on?

Speaker 16 (32:25):
Chris?

Speaker 7 (32:26):
Rob how y'all feeling on?

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Doing? Good?

Speaker 1 (32:29):
Good?

Speaker 7 (32:30):
Good good? Just quickly, I wanted to say, I don't
feel like she has to speak to this because how
do we even know if she is aware of the
things that are being said?

Speaker 6 (32:37):
Right?

Speaker 7 (32:38):
I mean, I wouldn't blame Caitlyn for not speaking about
things that she's not fully informed about, because we have
too many athletes, in my opinion, that speak to things
that they are misinformed about. You know, the same is
and just because she can hoop doesn't mean that she
has to speak to every situation that she's probably not
one hundred percent informed about. And let me just say

(32:59):
this before close, fellows, I'll close with this, Like Chris said,
what if she is outspoken about issues that the w
n b A is for and she is against them?

Speaker 6 (33:09):
Right? They wouldn't like that and I would tell her
it would tell her that it's.

Speaker 7 (33:13):
Her white privilege. She needs to just hoop and just
just be what it is in trouble.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
They yeah, you want one more rout?

Speaker 4 (33:26):
Yeah, Will and Wisconsin. You're in the couple of Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
What's up, Will, what's going on?

Speaker 8 (33:31):
Gentlemen?

Speaker 10 (33:31):
Happy Friday to you guys, And uh, just real quickly,
Sometimes when you're in the public eye like Caitlin is, now, no,
you know, thrust into it or whatever. But you know,
sometimes greatness, you know, people are born into it, sometimes
thrust upon them. And so now she is in this
in this era, in this era of openness and expression
for athletes. So it's like, hey, you're navigating this now,

(33:53):
this is in the eighties, you're playing now, So yeah,
you're gonna have to have.

Speaker 17 (33:56):
A little bit take on a little bit more here.

Speaker 7 (33:59):
Maybe not fair, but you are in that space now.

Speaker 17 (34:01):
So I think as she grows, she does have a
responsibility to chime in on on issues that do affect women.
The same way we kind of looked at Jordani on
hindsight saying, you know, hey, we do wish you would
have had a little bit more. She's being prodded, Hey,
can you give us more.

Speaker 3 (34:17):
Right awam, here we go. Thanks well, thank you all.

Speaker 4 (34:20):
Good call.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
All right, it's the Odd Couple Chris and Rob live
from the tire Rack dot Com Studios. Luka Doncic Is
he on the verge of being swept? And if so,
what does it mean? That's next?

Speaker 4 (34:33):
Chris Rob The Odd.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
Couple, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Thanks for listening to The Odd Couple podcasts. Be sure
to catch us live every weekday from seven pm to
ten pm Eastern four to seven pm Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio. Find your local station for The Odd Couple
at Fox Sports Radio dot Com, or stream us live

Speaker 3 (34:59):
All right, it's the a Couple.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
Chris Brussard Rob Parker live from the tire Rack dot
Com Studios.

Speaker 5 (35:06):
It's time y'all for Shekel City. All right, here we go,
Shekel City. Chris Bussard. I'm gonna go with Boston minus
one and a half. Wrap this bad boy up Boston
minus one and a half in Dallas and it'll be
a rap.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
I'm just gonna go there. I wanted to pick I
wanted to pick Dallas, thinking that they'll win and then
but I just don't feel good about them, especially the
way what went down last in Game three. So I'm
gonna I'm gonna take Boston to wrap it up tonight. Also,
I got the Twins minus one and a half runs.
They're taking on the Oakland A's in Minneapolis. And then

(35:45):
I got the Tigers. The Tigers are in Houston taking
on the Astros. I'm gonna go with the Tigers plus
one and a half runs. So I got the Tigers
plus one and a half runs, the Twins minus one
and a half, and the Celtics to wrap up the
NBA Finals and four straight are sweep minus one and

(36:08):
a half Chris on the road. And remember, I'm not
telling you who to bet on. I'm telling you who
I bet on. All right, Rob, So you got him
sweeping the night. I mean, obviously this thing is over.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
I guess it would be exciting, Rob if the Mavericks
could win the next two games, right, and maybe we
got we can manufacture a little suspense for Game six,
you know, but it's not looking good obviously. I think
I'm leaning toward them getting swept tonight. Yeah you too, Yeah,

(36:47):
I mean could they could they? You know, the team
and there's no teams get up and you know, like Minnesota, Rob,
they got up for that one game and then they
got you know, whipped in five against Dallas.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
So yeah, they could get up.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
But let me ask you this, if Luca swept, do
you think like this impacts his legacy or anything like that.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
No, people get swept. Things happen.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
I just I just don't think so, I really don't.
I don't think that anybody they got they lost this
four games. Oh well, at least he didn't get swept.
He got swept in five game. I mean he lost
in five games, not four. You know what I meant.
Didn't You didn't, right, you didn't. You didn't have a
shot really at it. So I don't see that.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
I think he's lost a few things.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
If they if they whether they get swept or just beat,
I think number one Rob, as you know, he was
being put into the best player in the world discussion.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
That that ceased.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
Yeah, that's that's gone.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
I still think he's top three with Jokic and Giannie.
But Jokic I think still clearly the top player in
the world.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
I'm sure most people agree.

Speaker 1 (38:01):
Secondly, Rob, he was I thought, and I think I'm
said this on the air. I thought he would have
entered next season as the winner lose this series. I
thought he would have entered kind of with a little
bit of a head start in the m v P
race next season, you know, kind of like Jokic did
this year. I don't think so. I don't think so now.

(38:23):
I mean, I'm he's not gonna be a negative, you
know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (38:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
No, no, no, there's no there's no cushion or at nothing.
People like especially the way that Game three wound up,
Like right, that's the thing, that's the thing.

Speaker 3 (38:37):
He comes out tonight play.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
I mean, but Game three was so bad, He's going
people gonna be looking at that. Actually, like does he
improve on defense? Is he if he doesn't quit complaining?

Speaker 4 (38:49):
Rob?

Speaker 1 (38:50):
I actually, I'm not gonna sit here and say that
won't hurt him with some of the voters for the MVP.

Speaker 4 (38:55):
Yeah, No, that's definitely. That's definitely a piece.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (39:01):
People will look at that and be like he's a
big baby. All he does is complain, Like like there's
a big part of that.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
So, uh, I think Rob heading into next season kind
of until the season gets going and you see if
there's a difference or not any I think top of
mind for a lot of observers is going when they
think of Luca, it's going to be game three, the complaining,

(39:30):
the no defense, the lazy you know defense, no effort,
all like that. Nobody's gonna deny he's a great player.
He's still an awesome player. Like I said, I still
got him in the top three, and probably most people do.
But that's gonna be top of mind Rob until he
kind of shows him different next season. But I'm with you, Ultimately,

(39:52):
this doesn't impact his leg unless and even if he
if he never gets back, like I you know, so,
I think he could end up in the argument for
a top ten player of all time if he you know,
I mean the way he started his career.

Speaker 3 (40:08):
Obviously he'd have to go on and win some championships
for that.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
So assuming he does that, this is not gonna even
be a blip. Rob Rob Lebron was swept in his
first finals. Shack was swept in his first finals. In fact,
the last two teams that get swept in the finals roped,
they've been Lebron's.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
Can I give you one, Chris his one? Derek Gita
was on the Yankee team that gave up a three
zero league, the first time in baseball history that he
got every vote except one for the Hall of Fame,
Chris he didn't affect him. Anybody think Derek Gedda wasn't
a great player, stop.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
Right, you're right, You're right.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
I mean Magic and Kareem got swept in nineteen eighty
three by the Sixers, and Kareem was still in his prime.
Magic was young, but obviously a great player, had won
two championships at that point. Kareem at won three and
so and they still got swept. So it happens. I mean,

(41:05):
you lose, you lose.

Speaker 4 (41:06):
Rob I would say, there's a short menu in sports
and losses. That's all right.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
I mean, I.

Speaker 1 (41:13):
Guess you'd rather say you you play them tough, right
in the seven game series, but at the end of
the day, you're not gonna be any You're not gonna
feel any better because you went seven and lost. I mean,
I maybe I'm not you know, I'm not a pro athlete,
but I just think at the end of the day,
like you said, it's win or lose, and they're going

(41:34):
to lose, and so how he did it is not
going to ruin anything for Luca Dons as far as
his legacy.

Speaker 3 (41:40):
All Right, we got two hours left. Y'all know what
to do. Keep it locked
