Speaker 1 (00:07):
Welcome inside with the Insiders. I am Tom Pelissera. We
are just seventy three short days away from kickoff in
the twenty twenty four NFL season. And don't worry about
me sitting here all over at the top of the show,
like Jalen hurts, I'm gonna have a lot of help.
That's because five time Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson

(00:27):
joining me and Brian Baldinger on the show tonight. What's
ahead for the Eagles? Are they looking forward to that
Brazil trip in week one? We'll get into a lot
of that with Lane Johnson during this show. We'll also
talk about the arms race, literally arms in the AFC South,
Can anybody topple? CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans Al's
talk dark horse MVP candidates Kyler murrayby in that mix,

(00:47):
Jared got tons to get into. But let's start with
some big news from early this morning out of Green Bay,
where the Packers Board of directors unanimously approved Ed Policy
as the French his new chairman, president, and CEO, a
move that effectively makes Policy the deve facto owner of
the NFL's only community owned franchise that will start in

(01:10):
July of twenty twenty five, when Mark Murphy, who has
held that post since way back in two thousand and eight,
set the cycle off as he hits his seventieth birthday.
They ran a thorough search, but ed Policy, the son
of longtime forty nine Ers president, Carbon Policy is the
man an in house hire in Green Bay. As we
welcome in more of our friends right here Stacy Dales.
That covers the Packers quite a bit, as well as

(01:32):
our front office analyst, Mark Ross.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Mark.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
I was thinking this morning going back to my Green
Bay Prescauzette days, and that was at a time of
the transition from not just Brett Favre Aaron Rodgers, but
it was Bob Harlan to Mark Murphy. Mark Murphy has
held that post ever since. Not just have the Packers
had three quarterbacks effectively for three decades, they've had three
team presidents overseeing the entire operation.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
So I posed this question to you.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Mark, Brett Faha won a Super Bowl, Aaron Rodgers won
a Super Bowl, So I would argue maybe they could
have won more than one Super Bowl. Jordan Love and
the Packers, how set up are they in your mind
to get that Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (02:10):
And maybe another Well, you talked about the stability, Tom,
and you forgot about the people making the decisions and
the stability there. Ron Wolf goes to Ted Thompson, goes
to Brian Gudakis.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
They all Kevin in that green Bay tree.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
That stability in the front office with the decision makers
allows for stable decision making with quarterbacks. Ron Wolf traded
for Far Ted Thompson drafted Aaron Rodgers, and now Goody
got his guy a Jordan Love. And he got Jordan Love,
but he also surrounded him with a ton of young
talent who.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
He gets to grow with together.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
And you get to make those decisions as a GM
because you have the stability to say, you know what,
this is not a knee jerk season here or there. Yes,
we're going to allow you to draft these young guys
and grow together. And so far it has been worked
out tremendously in one season with Jordan Love and all
his young receivers and tight ends and offensive linemen. So

(03:06):
Green Bay really has been the standard bearer Stacey of.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
You gotta have the quarterback, got.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
To have the stability on the back end, and just
in one season, I know you'll talk about it might
be even better in a year two for Jordan ro
Love and.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
Grow absolutely, Mark, and congratulations to Ed. And you know,
it's just an organization that seems to make smart decisions
all the time, right, And that is the case when
it comes to quarterbacks. And I've done reports on comparing
you know, Brett Farve's first season to Aaron Rodgers first
season to Jordan Love's first season, and it got markedly

(03:40):
better last year. And when you talk about year one
to two, this actually is his fifth season in Green Bay.
So listen, Mark and Tom. He knows this offense, but
I would describe it as the old cliche night and
day from last offseason to this offseason. And Jordan Love
has openly talked about how much better a feel he has.

(04:00):
They often picked pretty good head coaches too, with his
head coach and play caller Matt Lafleur specifically, how much
better a feeling he has for what Matt Lafleur is seeing,
what he's calling based upon what he's seeing, and guys,
that absolutely permeates this entire young roster. It was the
youngest offense in the National Football League last season, and

(04:22):
it will be one of the youngest subsequently.

Speaker 6 (04:24):
This season.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
Last year was the first time, as Jordan Love has
talked about that a lot of his young players, a
couple of those guys, big time rookies. We're hearing play
calls for the first time in the NFL. And it's
at a point now where he has acknowledged he can
actually change the call at the line of scrimmage in
his second full time season as starter. So things look

(04:46):
really exciting for the Green Bay Packers offensively with just
another young offense that I think guys, they could have
some superstars in the making on that receiver corp.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Mark.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
This is also a franchise. It's not the afraid to
pay the quarterbacks a lot of money. They had the
highest paid quarterback for a long time a decade or
so ago with Aaron Rodgers. The difference was back then
that was at twenty two million dollars per year. Now
the top of that mark is one hundred and fifty
percent beyond it at fifty five a year. Jordan Love
did the band aid deal last year. He's on the
books for like eleven million this season. He's not going

(05:19):
to play for that. In your mind, from a front
office perspective, what is the magic number to make sure
you're locking in Jordan Love for the long haul here.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Well, you know they've been working on this, of course
behind the scenes. We don't see it publicly, but of
course they're working on it and working out different ways.
And it's always that final number. You talk about, Tom
and who what was the last one? What's fifty five
year for Trevor Lawrence. Now that's kind of the number.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
We'll we get fifty six per year, we'll get up
to sixty.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
It just all.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Depends on how they're going to structure the deal. But
whatever that number ends up being, are they going to
get it in there before Tua's deal gets in We'll.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Talk about to it later.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Now does that throw off the number for what the
next big number is to the next in line? Interesting
thing for me, we talked about this last week. Who's
ever the next one up is the best contract? But
for me, Jordan Love also has a chance to be
a top five quarterback as well. So not only is
he just the next one up, I think he has
a chance to be that's one up as well.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
When it's all said done, Tom and Stacy, guys, and.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
I would just say, didn't Jordan Love just get engaged
to his partner and now fiance. I think things are
going really well for Jordan Love. Oh guess what nice
job control room. We have a shot of it right here. Congratulation,
congratulations to this couple, because listen, if you're getting engaged
in the offseason in a place like that, Tom and

(06:43):
Mark and you are due for a big contract extension
after the way we've seen this young man evolve in
this organization sitting behind Aaron Rodgers all these years. Good
things are in store for him. He deserves it. And shoot,
they might have a pretty good defense in Green Bay
this year too.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
We start off the segment talking about would Jordan Love
get that ring? And maybe more? We don't actually know that,
but we know who does have a ring, his new fiance,
Ronica Stone. Congratulations to the spy couple. What a great
soap opera pairing of names. By the way, Jordan Love
and Ronica Stone. That's some days of our lives stuff.
I love it. Elsewhere in the NFC North, hey, we
got some drama, some soap opera type stuff around this

(07:26):
division in terms of the quarterbacks who are coming in.
That of course begins, but the number one overall draft
pick Caleb Williams, who now is one of just five
first round picks who have not signed their rookie deals.
Four of them happened to be in the same division.
You got Caleb Williams Romadoonze who surely is waiting for
Kayleb Williams deal to get done first. Same thing with

(07:46):
JJ McCarthy and Dallas Turner, as well as Marius Mims
in Cincinnati. Stacey, you're there in Chicago. You spent a
great deal of time around that Bears team through the
course of Mini camp and everything else. When you talk
about this Bears team and you talk about what Caleb
Williams can do moving forward, where does he fit into

(08:07):
the bigger picture in terms of the quarterbacks coming up
here and what this Bear's team hopes to accomplish in
twenty twenty four.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Well, Tom, to put it simply, he fits in perfectly
well to the big picture, so much so that I
would just say, given what I've witnessed, observed, and gleaned
over the course of this offseason, he is ready for
the demands and the pressure that go along with being
the franchise quarterback of the Chicago Bears in a city
like Chicago. That is absolutely demanding success.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
They are so.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
Overdue, I guess is the word for success, and especially
at the quarterback position, at least they feel because I
live here in Chicago. The thing that he's done really well,
besides integrating himself into the community, and that is a
genuine integration, is the forging of his relationships, not only
with Maddi, but with his new teammates. He has great

(09:02):
reverence and respect for them. So there's a humility that
he has brought. If you talk to any of his teammates,
there's a humility despite being the first overall pick, that
he's brought to this locker room. I think the teammates
love that part about him. And then it's the on
the field stuff.

Speaker 6 (09:16):
You guys.

Speaker 5 (09:16):
Putting it very simply, Caleb Williams as good as he is,
as well as he can sling the rock if you will,
He has so welcomed the learning curve and what it
will take in terms of cadence and command. Right, it
ain't clap, let's get and go with the play call
from the sideline. It is he has got to read
that thing out to his offensive line and to the

(09:37):
rest of the offense. He's got to get up under
center and make sure that whole thing is a working operation.
He has welcomed that challenge, and I anticipate that with
all the talent there on that roster, things could be
maybe not perfect, but a little bit more smooth than
maybe we anticipate we'll see in training camp.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
It's so fascinating, Stacy, because a big part of the
narrative with Caleb Williams coming out was just going to
be what type of a a guy was he going
to be in the locker room? Is he all about
all these other things that aren't football. As teams did
their homework and the Bears did their homework, a lot
of what they got back out of the USC program
was hemates.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Love the guy.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
He goes to the Heisman Trophy ceremony, he brings all
of his offensive linemen, the backup quarterback has a birthday party.
Caleb shows up. They had him go out the Bears
did with some of his veteran teammates prior to them
selecting him as part of his thirty visit here. They
came away convinced this guy is the right person as
well as player to help us move forward in Chicago.

(10:31):
Miami seems like they've got their guys. Well it's to
a tongue Iloa, the Dolphins quarterback, but they have not
yet gotten to a contract with him either. Tiny Tua
as we I guess are gonna call him now here
spoke about his contract situation with the Porters a few
weeks ago.

Speaker 7 (10:48):
Am I concerned about it? I'm not concerned about it,
But there's a lot of discussions, you know, that we've
had that you know, we just are trying to move
that thing into the right direction where we can both
be happy it personally.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Does your agent update you like every time they're a toss?

Speaker 7 (11:08):
Well, my my agent updates me. But for me, I
don't like updates like every time, Like, you don't got
to tell me the little things. Just tell me things
that that matter. Are we getting to where we want
to or are we not? That's it.

Speaker 8 (11:21):
Did you think there'd be more progress at this point?

Speaker 7 (11:23):
Well, I think there's been a lot of progress at
this point from where we started. There's been a lot
of progress. Now, you know, you can ask the other question,
then why aren't we seeing you know, in agreement. Well,
that's the tough part about it. That's why it's it's business.
That's why you got one side and the other trying
to work to meet in the middle.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Let's bring in our friend Camera Wolf, who's down there
in South Florida, spends a lot of time around that
Dolphins team.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Cam.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
I feeling we've had this conversation once or twice over
the past several months here with Tua Takaba Loa. Give
me your breakdown of where we stand right now and
how this thing proceeds in the month or so leading
up to training camp.

Speaker 9 (12:00):
Well, Thomas teammates are calling him skinny to a first
of all, now that he's down the two fifteen down
from where he was last season, so he's lost about
ten or fifteen pounds from there. But a big thing
for the Dolphins as they go forward in an offseason,
obviously to of Tongue Balloa's contract extensions at the forefront,
but they are embracing really the negative narratives that will

(12:21):
follow them through this year three of the Mike McDaniel era.

Speaker 10 (12:24):
There's had a lot of good in these two years.

Speaker 9 (12:27):
Number one ranked offense resurgence of Tua on the heels
of that big contract extension, two winning seasons, two playoff
ascension appearances, but the big negative no playoff wins and
a four ten ten record in December and January. And
so I asked met Mike McDaniel in our last media
session two weeks ago, how do you coach your team
to get better come winter and playoff time?

Speaker 10 (12:47):
He told me something interesting.

Speaker 9 (12:49):
Listen here, he said, for half the offseason, he's had
staff meetings at seven to twenty four or three twenty
four or five to twenty four, all for the number
twenty four to mark the amount of years the Dolphins
have gone without a playoff win. That's an NFL high
twenty four years. So he wants the team to assess
about it, to embrace it, rather than let it overcome
them when that narrative comes up. And so the reality

(13:11):
is the spotlight is on this Dolphins team and it
will get brighter if and when Tua does become one
of the NFL highest paid quarterbacks. And as we talked
about in the top, negotiations are still ongoing, as Tuas said,
and I've heard there has been progress, but nothing done yet,
and both sides still want to get a deal done
by the start of the season. If it is done,
I expect to come in in the range of recent

(13:33):
quarterback extensions like Jared Golf, Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, all
in that fifty three to fifty five million range. But
structure and guarantees are often the trickiest thing with this
And one thing I'll say Mark Tua used the word
ANTSI last time he talked and describe as motions of
not having a deal done at this point. He did
practice in the spring, but sat out eleven on eleven drills.

(13:54):
I'm curious to see what happens if there is no
deal at the start of training camp. Does he miss
eleven on eleven camp? That becomes a little bit more significant.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Cam.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
It does feel like we talk about this every week.
But yes, these contracts are complicated people. This is why
it takes a while. It's not like, hey, here, take
this money and keep moving on. There's so much to
these contracts that you go back and forth with your
agent and your cat guy or a couple of cat
guys with it with the players agent. So that's why
it takes a while. It will get done. I have
no question that it will get done. And as we

(14:25):
talked about too, is the next man up and the
improvement and the record in the playoffs and the lack
of wins against big time teams. Tua has to get better,
Mike McDaniel. Of course he's going to take take the
brunt for himself and say as a coach, I had
to get better. But Tua has to get better too, Cam.
And that's that quick offense where he gets the ball
out fast and when they can out scheme people, they roll.

(14:47):
But when they can't do that, Tua has not shown
the ability to kind of take, Okay, what's my next
move off of this the skinny to a losing weight,
help them out with the movement, avoiding the rush and
making plays on the move. Is that going to be
the new facet of his game that it improves, but
he has to show that ability to handle the rush,
have that second option when things aren't quick and move

(15:08):
around skinny to Is he going to do it? Tom, Tiny, Tim,
whatever you want to call him, Tom, But we'll go
with Cam skinny toa that sounds better.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Cam, real quick.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Before we let you go here, you mentioned fifty three
to fifty five, which I think is where a lot
of people probably thought the tool contract would come in prior.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
To Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Now Trevor Lawrence on the books at fifty five, matching
Joe Burrow. You can go back and forth on the structure,
but do you still think realistically this there's a chance
that this deal could get done for under fifty five
million dollars per year.

Speaker 8 (15:36):
No.

Speaker 9 (15:36):
I think, as Tua said, clearly, the market is the market,
and I think Trevor Lawrence set the floor as far
as the AAV and I think the guarantees as we
look deeper into the deal, I think that'll be the
elements there's still deciding upon.

Speaker 10 (15:49):
I don't expect him to take lower than what Trevor
Lawrence just took.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Cam Mark, thank you very much. Do not go anywhere.
We will be back with you shortly here. Meanwhile, elsewhere
in the AFC, we also had a move today by
the Kansas City Chiefs, who informed defensive tackle Isaiah Bugs
they are releasing him after multiple offseason arrests. Bugs bond
was revoked after his most recent arrest. He is currently

(16:14):
in jail as multiple legal cases play out. Bigger issues
to worry about than football at this point in Kansas
City is moving on coming up after this, cam Wolf
will be back. He's all over the place, all over
the AFC East, the AFC South and Blowyer. There's some
quarterbacks in that ladder.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Division.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Will break them all down, the latest insights on every
one of those guys, from C. J. Stroud to Anthony
Richardson and beyond. Who has a chance to take down
Stroud and the Texans. We'll talk about it on the inside.
The easiest way to break down Trevor Lawrence's new contract.
He got all the money, all of it, five year,

(16:56):
two hundred and seventy five million dollar contract ascension with
a hundred and forty two million dollars fully guaranteed. The
fifty five million dollar per year apy matches Joe Burrow
for the most in NFL history. So what does Trevor
Lawrence have to do to live up to that type
of contract? For answers on that, we bring back our

(17:17):
friend Cameron Wolf here a fascinating division. First of all,
Cam overall here. If you're going down the list right
now in terms of the most intriguing teams, I don't
know if the Jaguars are in the top couple that
most people would say, but let's focus on Trevor Lawrence here.
You get paid like that, the pressure mounts even more
than it normally would on a number one pick. How
does he live up to it?

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (17:37):
Tom, First, I can't win South This year youngest.

Speaker 9 (17:42):
Quarterback division in football, all four starters under twenty five
years old, and the most experienced and highest paid one
is Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 10 (17:50):
And external expectations will.

Speaker 9 (17:53):
Always rise with big money contracts, and the expectation for
the jag is a successful twenty twenty four season turning
to the playoffs, not just getting there, winning at least
one playoff game like they did in the first year
with Doug Peterson and Lawrence together.

Speaker 10 (18:08):
And look, Lawrence talked to reporters earlier this.

Speaker 9 (18:10):
Month and said he doesn't feel any extra pressure or
expectations because he always carried the pressure as a franchise quarterback.
But now all eyes are on him. Can he make
that jump from good quarterback to great quarterback? That's what
his contract represents. A quarterback that can lead his team
against Patrick Mahomes, against Josh Shallen, against Lamar Jackson, against
Joe Burrow, and one controllable area the Jaguars really want

(18:33):
Lawrence to take that next step is turnovers He's had
sixty turnovers in his first three years NFL High twenty one.
They think it comes from him being a little bit
too much superhero in those moments. They think experience and
also comfort will help, and he's already been a more
vocal guy in that building in terms of what he
wants in the offense.

Speaker 10 (18:51):
I'm eager to see in training camp that early chemistry with.

Speaker 9 (18:53):
Gabe Davis in first round pick Brian Thomas Junior, so
they can get off to a fast start.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
That's superhero mentality too, may contribute to some of those injuries.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
We know that he was banged up.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
He plays through a lot, but he's not always at
one hundred percent when he's on the field. You better
be one hundred percent if you're going to try to
take down c J. Stroud and the Texans, who if
he went rewound to a year ago Cam we're talking
about realistically, what can he do? He'll probably start, but hey,
it's a new coaching staff, aholl new instead. They're one
of the most fun teams in the entire NFL through
the course last season, year two.

Speaker 8 (19:25):
What's next?

Speaker 10 (19:26):
Yeah, I'll talk to multiple league azexs, who says c J.

Speaker 9 (19:28):
Stroud and Houston have jumped Jacksonville and Trevor Lawrence is
the class the AFC South and the best threat to
challenge Kansas City in this division. Now they have the
hunted label on it. And one thing I've continued to
hear about CJ is they're going to give him more
control and ownership of this offense. He has a high
football IQ and has earned it. In the addition of
Stefan Diggs, more attention will be on how CJ manages

(19:51):
these three receivers, all with a alpha dog mentality. We
know Digs, but you got Nico Collins, big money dude
as well, and then Tank Dell coming off a really
hot rookie season. It's a role that CJ welcomes. You're
building quick chemistry already with these receivers. And a quick
story about CJ. Jaguars Dbs raved to me after a
game last year saying that he was a top five

(20:12):
superstar talent by middle of the season, and they said
their receivers broke open deep instead of short. That's just
a sign of CJ telling his receivers what he wants
and being clear with them overall.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Anthony Richardson same draft class, but his rookie year starts
four games, doesn't finish three of them because of injuries. Here, Cam,
how is he doing medically as we look at the
twenty twenty four.

Speaker 10 (20:36):
Yeah, Tom, I'm told Anthony Richardson's arm is good. He's healthy.

Speaker 9 (20:39):
He was back thrown on the field during spring workout,
slinging sixty yard passes. I'm told remember he had surgery
on that ac joint in October of last year. He
did miss the last day of mini camp earlier this month,
but that was termed to me as general shoulder soreness, precautionary,
not worthy of much concern. I'm told he's going to
train during summer break in Jacksonville with his private coterback

(21:00):
coaches will hewlet It and Tom Cormiley, and he'll report
to Indy from camp in late July. One thing Shane
steike In, the head coach, really wants him to work
on is being smarter in how he runs, being more selective.
They're on the same page with that. Anthony richards has said,
I'm not going to change my play style completely, but
I will be smarter and my goal is to play
every game this year.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
Meanwhile, the only new head coach in that division. It's
Brian Callahan in Tennessee. He said a lot of positive
things about Will Levis, including here on this show The
Insiders back in March. What's the plan for Will Levis
to not just be a fun story. He has guys
owing and eyeing with some of the throws he makes
in those micdup segments on the sideline, but actually put
them in that AFC South Max Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Tom.

Speaker 9 (21:42):
One thing that was told to me early Brian Callahan,
the head coach, showed him a lot of Joe Burrow
tape and a glimpse of what this game will be like. Look,
Levis is not Joe, but they think that he can
seceed through a lot of the receivers they've added in
this offense, Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd to go with
DeAndre Hopkins. And I talked to a tight coach earlier
this week who told me that, look, one thing I

(22:03):
noticed during the spring is Levis really started to master
the offense in the latter stages and he also has
a trip plan with its receiver this summer. That's all
the elements of a young quarterback trying to take ownership.
He has that big arm, but he was inconsistent with
his accuracy. It was notable, though, that the Titans did
not sign at Kirk Cousins or draft of Michael Pennix.
They believe that Levis can be this quarterback and they

(22:26):
can develop them. But if not, then maybe they're back
in the quarterback hunt next summer.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
They gave one of the biggest humans I've ever been
next to J. C. Latham with their first round pick camp.
Thank you very much. You know who else? One of
the biggest humans I've ever seen in my life? Our
next guess it's Lane Johnson, the five time Pro Bowl
right tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 3 (22:47):
After what happened down the stretch last season.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
How do they get back on track in twenty twenty four?

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Baldy and I with Lane Johnson answers right after this.

Speaker 11 (22:55):
On the inside, I don't know what's next, but I
look forward to the new challenges and opportunities that'll wait.

Speaker 12 (23:08):
And I know that I carry with me the lessons
for my time here and that forever and that forever
we shall all share the bond of being Philadelphians.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
Can only imagine some of those emotions.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
He's all right there from Jason Kelsey were about this,
going to London seeing his brother's girlfriend Taylor Swift show
and then bragging about how many friendship racelets he got.
Good for you, Jason, keep enjoying retirement. Meanwhile, it's onward
and hopefully upward for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
Whose offensive line gonna look a little bit different.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Than it has for quite a while, particularly at that
center position where Cam Jurgens is stepping in. It certainly
helps when you've got a five time Pro Bowl right tackle,
and what do you know, he happens to join us
right now. It is Lane Johnson. Lane, thanks a lot
for being here. Your buddy end Ours Brian Baldeger is
here as well. I would ask how the off season's going,

(24:08):
but I'm guessing you don't really look at this time
period right here.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
As the off season. What are you up to? What's
going on?

Speaker 13 (24:15):
Yeah, so we're have about a month until what camps starts.
So getting in shape is nice and hot down here
in Oklahoma. It's one hundred degrees today, so getting in
shape and getting ready for the ways to countdown, Lane, for.

Speaker 14 (24:29):
The first time since you came into this league in
twenty thirteen, Jason Kelsey won't be there, and we know
everybody but basically understands that this guy was far more
than just a great football player.

Speaker 8 (24:43):
He was a great person. He was a leader. I
almost feel like like he is the Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 14 (24:48):
What what is the offseason been like without Jason out
there on the field and kind of heading things up
and leading the room and all the things that he's
done since you came into this league.

Speaker 13 (25:00):
Yeah, it is a lot different. You know, we have
seen him in the building quite a bit, so I
think he'll be around, you know, a little bit during
the season. But you know, he was just such a
passionate player. He obviously loved what he did and he
loved helping guys. So I think one day he'll make
a great coach. But I know he's busy. He's happily busy,
and yeah, I think he's very consent and yeah, just

(25:23):
you know, I think one of the best centers are
not the best center that'sart played the game.

Speaker 14 (25:28):
Plane you proudly wear an Offensive Line Masterminds T shirt
right now.

Speaker 8 (25:32):
I'm a little jealous. I don't have one on right now.

Speaker 14 (25:35):
But this is the seventh year of the Offensive Line
Mastermind it is. It's grown exponentially every year. I thought
last year was the best year that we've had. Tell
us the fans and the audience out there a little
bit about what got you started behind this thing, because
you've been there from the very beginning. You and Duke
Manuweather down in Frisco, Texas. Tell us what the idea

(25:59):
was when you started this.

Speaker 13 (26:02):
Yeah, so I think, you know, I credit von Miller
is starting you know, really the summits for you know, positions,
So I think he influenced obviously me talking about it.
Duke is one to reach out and said that we
should start something like this, So, you know, it was
something I felt like the Alvins line had a great
brotherhood and you have lots of vets and Hall of

(26:24):
Fame guys that are just ready to spread knowledge, willing
to spread knowledge. And I was like, we can get
these guys all in one room and have a weekend together,
you know, really at the right time of the year.
I think it could be great for you know, everybody
involved in And it started with around twenty five guys
and I think we're gonna have around three hundred and
fifty this year. And it's just you know, we break

(26:46):
up in two position groups. There's a you know, lots
of great players there that have played that position, so
you get a chance to improve your insight, improve your knowledge,
and you know, I think the timing of it right
before camp really gets you into the right state of
mom you know.

Speaker 14 (27:03):
I mean, I think people understand, even people that didn't
play football understand if the offensive line is the brotherhood,
like we we kind of bond together within our own team,
each individual team. We do it after like myself, like
long after I've retired, Like there's always that sort of bond.
I feel like that's a big part of the success

(27:24):
and the growth of the masterminds.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
Yeah, I mean, it's truly a unique position. You're in
a position of service suit.

Speaker 13 (27:32):
So you know, our job is to protect the quarterback
and open up holes to the run game. So we're
really a fan of everybody you know on the offensive side.
But yeah, I mean, we spend so much time together
and so much of what we do, and our success
depends on the guide to the left and right of us,
you know, being in sequence, knowing the play call, knowing
the proper set lines, and you know, a lot of

(27:54):
a lot of that is what we talk about and
discuss at the summit, you know, talk about recovery, talk
about training. But really, you know, I think the Hall
of Fame panel has really taken off the past couple
of years, getting guys obviously in that category. I think
there are words speed, volumes, and you see he's got

(28:14):
soak it in and it's been really tremendous loss.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
Blaine.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
One of your teammates, Darius Slay, posted something on social
media the other day saying, how do we get an
offensive lineman on the.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
Cover of Madden?

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Have you have you given any thought to do we
get a grassroots type effort like the one that got
Peyton Hillis on the Madden cover many years ago? Do
we think we could start that right now? Make the
pitch for a big guy to land on that cover?

Speaker 13 (28:40):
Man, I thought I thought Kelse would have been a
great candidate, you know, to be on the cover. I'm
just not sure which one, which one I would go on.
I think I'd w to Kels with a long hair
with the hair touching the shoulders, so.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
I think that'd be a good one.

Speaker 8 (28:55):
Lade.

Speaker 14 (28:55):
One of the things that's coming up this year as
this game continues to grow is the Eagles are going
to Brazil this year to play your first game Friday night,
opening weekend of the season against the Packers.

Speaker 8 (29:07):
Have you had time to kind of.

Speaker 14 (29:08):
Think about the travel, the excitement playing like down in
South first game ever in South America like that.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Yeah, I mean I'm excited about it.

Speaker 13 (29:18):
I'm glad that it's the first game of the year
so we'll get some time to recover from it.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
But yeah, I mean really don't know what to expect.

Speaker 13 (29:25):
I mean, you see the stories about you know what
what jersey we're gonna be allowed to wear, but you know,
I think all that'll be solved shortly. But yeah, I
mean usually training camps a busy time of the year
because you're having open practices, your your scrimmaged against other
teams and travel them to their place, so.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
You know it won't be long. But I really am
looking forward to it.

Speaker 13 (29:47):
Had a good time in London until I got rolled
up on any play, but you know, had a good
time until then, But really looking forward to.

Speaker 8 (29:55):
Lane.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
We all know what you guys did Philadelphia for about
a two year span there for the past half of
twenty twenty one, obviously all the way through twenty two
through the Super Bowl run and then last year we
all forget you were one of the hottest teams in
football up until about November there.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
We all also know how it ended.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
What's the best optimistic scenario you can think of in
terms of you see this team right now, what's the
best case you can make for this team getting back
to being that Eagles team we've seen before starting Week one?

Speaker 13 (30:22):
Yeah, I mean we have a lot of new faces,
a lot of turnovers, so but felt comfortable with the
way that we drafted, got some great players and just
really when you look at our roster, we have a
lot of size. You know, obviously we have to go
prove things and are eager to do so. But when
you just look at the guys walking around the building,
we got size, we got speed.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
And guys willing to work.

Speaker 13 (30:45):
So, you know, every year is different, and I wish
I had the answers to you know, why the second
half of the season that went the way it did.
But you know it was something I went by so fast,
and I know effort wasn't a problem.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
So but looking forward.

Speaker 13 (30:59):
To obviously this new offense under Keller Moore going to
be some things changed up for us up front, and yeah,
just excited.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
Man talks the year. It's crazy how fast it goes by.

Speaker 8 (31:12):
Lane real quick.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Here.

Speaker 14 (31:13):
One guy that does have great size and speed is
your newest teammate, Saquon Barkley.

Speaker 8 (31:19):
You've around him this offseason, you're out there on the
field with him.

Speaker 14 (31:23):
What have you seen, felt and enjoy about getting No Saquon,
I know you knew him from the Pro Bowl and
stuff like that, but as a teammate now as an egle,
I think he feels super excited about this part of
his next career.

Speaker 13 (31:38):
Yeah, obviously, I mean once you're saying you'll never forget this,
you know, fensically imposing guy. I think he walks around
around two thirty. You know, he likes the golf, so
we've been golfing a few times. He's he's ultra competitive.
But yeah, I mean when you see obviously what he
can do at the running back position and we can
flex him out and receiver and he can you know,

(32:00):
he can go. It's it's really unbelievable. I never thought
that he would be playing for us, but you know,
here it is. I know that he's excited. We're definitely
excited up front and yeah, man, I think he's boysed
for for a big, big year.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Three hundred and fifty offensive linemen headed to the Mastermind Summit.
Awesome what you've built, Lane, real quick, I know, bald,
he's going to be joining you there as well. He's
gonna get a T shirt. You're wearing a T shirt?
Do you make him in a medium? And if so,
can I get one of those?

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (32:31):
We got we got a bunch of great sizes. Yeah,
we'll tind of get some info. See if they run
a little bit or large, a little bit looser, if
they're tight fitting, so we'll get the ross ozk.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
Youth Excel also works.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
Lane, thanks a lot for being here, man, Joy, thank you,
Thank you. Eagles kickoff Week one in Brazil. Lions kickoff
in Detroit Sunday night football against their old friend Matthew
Stafford and the Rams. Could be the start of a
Jared Goff MVP push. Don't laugh, we'll talk MVP dark

(33:05):
horses next. On The Insiders, Lamar Jackson was, of course
your twenty twenty three NFL MVP.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Can he make it two in a row?

Speaker 1 (33:21):
We will begin to find out starting seventy three days
from tonight when Jackson and the Ravens kick off the
twenty twenty four regular season against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Time now for on the Clock presented by Ram Trucks,
Tom Peliserra along with Mark Ross here on The Insiders,
our friend Judy Batista, who will be back on this

(33:41):
show I'm sure very soon, has a new story mark
on NFL dot com slash Batista outlining some of these,
she puts in dark horse candidates for NFL MVP who
could potentially take down Lamar Jackson. The first name on
her list Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions. Your thoughts,

(34:02):
Judy crushed this article.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
First of all, in the year's past, anywhere he associated
with the Lions is a dark horse because they had
never done anything. But it's a new error for the
Detroit Lions, and Jared Golf is at the forefront of that.
And first of all, you got to produce Tom and
he did that last year. But most importantly, he'll be
even better because his offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is coming
back a model ras Saint Brown has the huge contract,

(34:26):
but also Jamison Williams, who the year he came out
of the draft or receiver I thought was the most
explosive receiver in that draft. He'll be back first full
time of starting, no no suspensions, no injuries. He's going
to add even more of a playmaking elopment for Jared Golf.
Jamier Gibbs, the running back from last year, will be
even better. So Jared Golf is going to put up numbers.

(34:47):
He's they're gonna win. They made the NFC Championship game
last year.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
They'll win.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
He'll have the spotlight, five prime time games and a
Thanksgiving game. So it's going to be right out in
front of everybody for Jared Golf to say, put up some.

Speaker 2 (34:59):
Numbers on on time and when he's going to be
the MVP.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Positively tom Another name that jumped out of me on
Judy's list Kyler Murray of the Cardinals, And when you
think about it a little bit deeper here, I don't
think it's that crazy now. Obviously they got to accomplish
a lot just to try to compete within their own division.
But with Kyler Murray last year, he was coming off
of the ACL, he wasn't ready at the start, he
was in a new offense. You still saw a few

(35:25):
flashes down the stretch. We know he thinks really highly
of the OC there, Drew Petsing, Is it enough? Does
it all add up? Mark to Kyler Murray being an
MVP candid here in twenty twenty four?

Speaker 3 (35:36):
Yeah, why not?

Speaker 2 (35:37):
Judy dug deep on this.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
One too, And Tom you mentioned it's almost that people
forgot that Kyler Murray was the offensive player of the
year when he came out, made the Pro Bowl twice.
You know, it's almost sad. Who's Kyler Murray can't play anymore?
You saw a little bit of the flashes when he
got back. Now he should be fully healthy.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
Oh and he has.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
Marvin Harrison Junior at his dispolder, who I thought was
the best wide receiver prospected ten fifteen years, So that
should help out as well. Kind of replicating that Kyler
Murray the DeAndre Hopkins a situation that they had a
few years ago. So yes, if Kyler Murray, the dynamic
playmaker with his arms and his legs, highlight plays may
not have the winning element like Jarrett Golf has in

(36:18):
a lot of primetime games, but just as far as
a dynamic playmaker, he should be in the mix as well.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
I'm worder to help far down the list, we have
to go. Mark, the'll flat out say no way. Does
Sam dartle get us there? Does Russell Wilson get us there?

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Julia? I'm supporting Judy.

Speaker 4 (36:33):
I'm always gonna support Judy.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
You and I are sitting here doing the show. You
don't have to help her. She's not watching it on
whatever island she's on. Okay, Mark, thank you very much,
appreciate you as always here.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
Could Josh Allen be another one of those guys.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Who gets into the MVP mix ore Stacey Dale's going
to be back after this to talk about what Josh
Allen is trying to do to be even better without
Stefan Diggs. That's next on the inside. If I told

(37:10):
you Trey McBride caught eighty one passes last season, would
you believe me?

Speaker 3 (37:15):
It's true?

Speaker 1 (37:16):
And he's going to try to kick off his twenty
twenty four in style when he joins the Insiders tomorrow
night at seven Eastern time. Stevan Diggs ol he always
catches a bucket of balls. Now he's going to be
trying to do that in Houston, where one of his
new teammates, case Keenum. You might remember they connected on
a pretty big pass against the Saites some years ago.
Keenum said at his annual youth football camp over the

(37:38):
weekend that Diggs hasn't lost a step. So where does
that leave Diggs's latest old team, the Buffalo Bills. Well,
they brought in some new faces to this team between
Keon Coleman, the high draft pick Curtis Samuel Khalil Shakir
Is back Mark wiz Voldez Scantling in case you missed
that one, he is now remember that team as our

(38:00):
Collins and Chase Claypool. But is it enough for that
Bill's offense with Joe Brady now the full time offensive
coordinator to be on track? Welcome back to the Insiders.
It's Tom Pildasero, joined again by our friend Stacy Dale. Stacy,
Josh Allen been there a lot physically. He puts himself
through a lot physically that included an elbow injury a

(38:20):
couple of years ago. Tell me what this Josh Allen
this offseason is trying to do to make sure he's
in top form for an offense that no longer has
his top receipt.

Speaker 5 (38:33):
Well, I think if you look at the full screen, Tom,
that we just saw understanding. It's his seventh season. They
won the division. Last season, they lost to Kansas City
in the divisional round. They went eleven and six on
the regular season. Josh Allen is sitting there also looking
just like Bill's Mafia at this new roster that they
have assembled. My dad, Hey, Dad, he's watching. He is

(38:55):
a diehard Bill's Mafia fan. And there's some questions, right
who's going to step into the not just Stefan Diggs Roll,
but they gave Davis Roll and the production monsters. Those
two specifically have been for the last four years for
Josh Allen, which to me makes Josh Allen's job this
season tom perhaps the most high pressurized and most responsible

(39:17):
if you will, that he has to become in taking over,
truly taking over what this team does offensively.

Speaker 6 (39:24):
He's got to get all these new guys in check.
Keon Coleman.

Speaker 5 (39:26):
We know Khalil shak Here's he's pretty good and he's
going to do some good things inside and outside.

Speaker 6 (39:31):
They have a lot of trust in him.

Speaker 5 (39:33):
But Curtis Samuel's new NBS is new Mark Wes Baldes, Scantling,
and of course Chase Claypool will see if he can
revitalize his career in Orchard Park. But the bottom line
for Josh Allen, understanding all those things that I just mentioned, Tom,
it's all back to mechanics, because you alluded to as
you entered our conversation into the mix today, the injuries.

(39:54):
Even just last year he had the elbow issues, some
shoulder issues, and he openly talked about how he had
to change the way he threw the football last year
and the trajectory of how he threw the football because
of some of those nicks to his armor, if you will.
So for Josh Allen, this month is really critical. It's
getting back to really specific I would almost say, you know,

(40:18):
not as in his words, just refining, but really retooling
the fundamentals. And that's what they've been working on and
some of their opening drills through mandatory mini camp. So
I expect to really sharp Josh Allen because he's got
to be sharp.

Speaker 6 (40:31):
For the group around him.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
Bottom line, the Bills need to find some dogs. Maybe
they can borrow your Stacey always love when he makes
a little cameo here on the Insiders Don't move all
over this coming up right after this, we got to
talk about what Joe Burrow and Justin Jefferson we're doing
in Europe over the weekend and where exactly parts of
their suits wet. The long story, We'll try to wrap

(40:55):
it up quickly right after this. On the inside, be
sure to check out The Insiders podcast Monday through Friday.
Scan the QR code, subscribe and listen to The Insiders
on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get

(41:18):
your podcasts.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
I'm sure Travis.

Speaker 1 (41:20):
Kelcey subscribes to our podcast minimum. He's got one of
his own along with his brother. He's also in his
supporting actor Era get It on stage here with Taylor
Swift at a show recently in London. A lot to
unpack here, so I need to bring in my friends
Stacy Dale's and Cam Wolf. Stacy, first of all, your

(41:42):
thoughts on this new role here for Travis Kelsey.

Speaker 6 (41:45):
I'm curious how they rehearsed this.

Speaker 5 (41:48):
I mean, that could have been really interesting, that's all
I'll say.

Speaker 3 (41:58):
I mean it doesn't look like it goes real there anyway. Cam.

Speaker 10 (42:02):
Yeah, I think that I really don't have much here.
I mean it's this is me trying.

Speaker 8 (42:11):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
I yeah, all right, Let's move on to something more ridiculous,
and that is what Joe Burrow was wearing at the
Vogue Fashion show recently here as well, hy Man justin Jefferson.

Speaker 3 (42:29):
Wait for it, wait for it. Here's the key question
on this one cam.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
If I show up in that week one to a stadium,
do I get fired?

Speaker 13 (42:38):
Ah?

Speaker 10 (42:39):
No, because now Joe Burrow has done it. And I
will tell you this Tom.

Speaker 9 (42:43):
At first, I was very against the shirtless the backless shirt,
and then I thought about it. I'm like, it's a
cool summer here in Florida, and so are you ready
for it?

Speaker 10 (42:54):
Me and my wife have been doing some wardrobe and
I decided to.

Speaker 8 (42:58):
Change my bless.

Speaker 3 (43:06):
That's I do not have a little more low back
than I bargained for. Their cam say, what do you think?

Speaker 9 (43:14):
This is the June and I'm I'm practicing my wardrobes
thanks to the Joe Burrow Who've got plenty of time
to get ready.

Speaker 5 (43:21):
For the only the only difference, Cam, Let's be honest,
the only difference between your backless and Joe's backless.

Speaker 6 (43:31):
That man got paid.

Speaker 5 (43:32):
I mean, I don't know what you're getting paid, but
that man right there, that man.

Speaker 6 (43:37):
Got paid to wear that.

Speaker 5 (43:38):
So for anybody who wants to opine over what Joe
Burrow is wearing, he got paid and you, my friend,
did not.

Speaker 3 (43:46):
For that I did not.

Speaker 1 (43:47):
And this difference was a few hundred rear decies.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
But whatever, see tomorrow.
