Speaker 3 (00:43):

Speaker 5 (01:11):
Rob.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Gary Sheffield Junior, the host of Yankees Unloaded, will join
us at the bottom of the hour. Of course, his
dad get the great Gary Sheffield, former baseball player, and
so that'll be a lot of fun, so keep it
locked for that. In the meantime, in between time, Rob,
let's go back to basketball. And a week from now, Rob,
(01:35):
Team USA, believe it or not, it's here already, will
play an exhibition game, their first exhibition game against Canada.
That's July tenth, So that'll be what next Wednesday in
Las Vegas to get themselves ready for the Olympic competition
(01:56):
in Paris. Of course, our team is Steph Curry, Devin Booker,
Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Drew Holliday, Tyres Halliburton. So we got some youth.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
We're getting some youth on there, Lebron, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard,
Jason Tatum, Joe Lnbat, Anthony Davis, and Bam out of
by you, Steve Kerr will coach this coaching staff Steve Kirk,
Eric Spostra, Tyron lou and Mark Feu from Gonzaga. That's
a heck of a coaching staff and a heck of
(02:27):
a team. So this is what I want to ask you, Rob.
I think we both are in agreement that this is
the last time, I mean, at least for the foreseeable future,
that we'll be able to quote unquote big boy the world. Like,
you know, last year in the Feeble World Championships, we
(02:48):
didn't meddle, but we had a bunch of young guys
over there, right, So now we're like, okay, we're sending
the big boys again. We've done that several times. Remember
nineteen ninety two of the Dream Team, our college kids
had been losing that. You know, college America used to
be so dominant, Rob in basketball.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
You remember this that.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Our college kids, we wouldn't even send the pros.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
A lot of young people, Rob.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
I mean they may know it, some may not even
know it, but we used to. Michael Jordan played in
the Olympics with I believe what Chris Mullen on that
team Packtory, maybe maybe Ewing, but you know, it was
a bunch of college guys and they ran through the world.
And then I remember Rob vividly when we started losing
(03:40):
with our college guys and these you know, our college
guys were future stars in the NBA, and I remember
I was my I don't know if this was the
first year we lost.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
It might have been.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
It was either the first or the second, and it
wasn't necessarily the well, yeah, this wasn't the Olympics, but
it was just world competition. And I don't know if
we won in eighty eight, now that I think about it,
we may have lost in eighty eight.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Check Patrick looked that up. We may have lost in
eighty eight.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
But I remember I was interning rob right after I
graduated at the Ending, not the Star, and you know,
I will watch the games in my dorm room, and
I think we had it might have been Kenny Anderson,
and I don't know if David Robinson, but you know
a lot of our top college guys at the time,
and we were losing, and of course in nineteen ninety two,
(04:32):
a couple of years later, we say, okay, let's send
the big boys. Let's send the big guns. And we
demolished the world with Magic and Jordan and Bird, et cetera.
And it stayed that way for you know, several years,
two thousand, actually that's only eight years. We barely won, right,
Lithuania gave us some issues. Then in a few years
(04:54):
we were losing in the international competition and we lost
it oh four, and you know, it just it just
was what. Then We's big boy to them again and
sent the Redeemed team right two thousand and eight, and
now Rob, we're doing it one more time. But this
is probably the last time. When I say big boy
(05:15):
to the world, I mean send our best players over
there and know for a fact we're winning. But I'm
I'm gonna continue to use that term because I think
we're the favorites and we should be.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
But it ain't a guarantee.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Rob.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I don't think even.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
With all those legends on this team, I don't think
it's a guarantee that.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
I think they're too old. I think the team is
too old. Chris, I'm not I'm not convinced that they're
gonna win.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Goal.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
I know it's a it looks do.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
You favor us, I have us favorite, but I there's
definitely it's not a sure thing.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
I don't know who to pick. Like, internationally, Canada's gonna
be tough.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
They got Shay Gilgris Alexander, they got Jamal Murray.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
I like the first two to start right, and then
they have some guys.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
I don't think Wiggins is gonna play, but lou Dort
from OKC, who's a great defensive player. I look up
the whole team, but they got they have a squad.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
But but go ahead and make your point. I look
up there. Yeah, I'm just I don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I think Chris, if this was five years ago with
those names, no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
It's an old squad. No, it is an old Durant.
Who else you got, Steph? Steph? I mean, are we
long in the tooth with this team? I think? But
here's the other thing.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
So those guys are old Lebron, Steph Durant, And then
you've got Anthony I'm sorry, Anthony Davis, Joe l Embii,
Kawhi Leonard not old necessarily, but as you know, injury
pro exactly. I don't even think. I mean, I gotta
(07:05):
be honest. I'm not mad at him.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
I'm not gonna like, no, I'm mad mad to have
them not play.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
But well, are you say Kawhid? I mean it's Kawhi
and mbiad ad a d was healthy last year.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
If he's healthy, he can play, okay, But Kawhi wasn't
really been in the season, No, I know, but god
forbid he gets hurt in the posted in this can
you imagine?
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Well, and it's more than that, Rob like kawhis and
this is the same for Inbat.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
I put in Beat in the same boat.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Their problems injury wise seem to be that they can't
stay healthy for you know, eighty semi games, like Kawhi
played throughout the season, No, he played a lot, and
if we were sean playoff time, right, he like E
wore down and MBID seems to do the same thing.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
And so those two in particular, I'm again, I'm not
gonna go to the mat over it, but I don't
think they should be playing, and I know I wouldn't.
I can't. I can't imagine their teams are happy about it.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
I just think with so much on the line, Chris,
and so much money that they have poured into these guys,
and I get it. It's an honor to represent your
country and win a gold medal. And I'm not trying
to discount it or pooh pooh it or act like
it it's not important, Chris, But my goodness, you know,
(08:37):
with the money you have tied into this, it would
kill a franchise to have one of their guys hurt.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
No, there's no doubt. I mean Philadelphia rab they just
gave Paul George two hundred and twelve million and as
he can stay healthy all he wants. But if Inbat isn't,
then they're in trouble. They got no chance without Inbat.
So I feel you on that, but I just think that,
(09:05):
you know again, I think we should be favorite, and
we are favorite, but it is going to be it's
gonna be a lot tougher. I would say than we expect,
or maybe I don't know if I should say then
we expect. But here's some of the guys on the
Canadian team rop. I mean this roster, and it's got
(09:27):
role players, which I like, right because we got a
bunch of stars, but you have to mesh those games.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Together in short order. Guys that aren't used to.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Being role players have to become role players, right, And
here's their team. Kyle, Alexander Nikill, Alexander.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Walker, good role player.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
RJ Barrett, nice role player for this team can give
you twenty two, Trey Bell, Haynes, Kim Birch, O Shay Brissett,
Dylan Brooks, Loud As I said, Zach Edy, the seven
to four guy, Melvin Ezam Shake, Gilgis, Alexander. They got
(10:10):
a bunch of I don't know all these guys gonna
be playing Jamal Murray, Andrew Nimhard from Indiana, Kelly Olennok,
Dwight Powell. So they have a good team. And then
that's not to mention some of the other teams. I mean,
Slovenia is trying to qualify. They've got Luca obviously, Greece
(10:31):
of course has Giannis, France has Wmby and.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Some other players that are really good.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
So it's gonna be it's gonna be a challenge. It's
going to be a challenge.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
Now.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
One of the things Rob this always bothered me and
I think has played probably at least a little bit
of a.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Factor in these games.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Are the rules are different, right, The NBA rules are
different from FEB rules and they play the Olympics and rules,
so the games are only forty minutes. There's four to
ten minute quarters rather than twelve minute quarters. There's no
defensive three second rule, so you can basically play zone.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
You can play a zone.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
The three point line ROB in international competition is twenty
two point one feet and then the NBA is twenty
three point seven. And then you have shorter game so
you only get five files to file out instead of six.
And then even the ball Rob you know, the NBA
ball has eight panels, same size, but the international ball
(11:38):
has twelve, and that makes a difference. A ball that
even though it's the same size, the different paneling makes
a difference. And so Rob, one thing I think they
should do. And it's not just for the Olympics, this
is just for basketball worldwide. We know the world is smaller. Obviously,
(12:01):
international players are playing in the NBA where our teams are.
You know, our youth seventeen and under team is playing
the different countries and the world and you know seventeen
and under teams, Rob, I think it's time to standardize
the rules around the world. I think we they should
all use at the professional level, use the same ball.
(12:26):
Three point lines should be the same, remember they used
to add the Trapezoway lane. The defensive rules should be
the same, Like I think, I think they should make
the rules the same, and it would be it would
be great for the Olympics because now it's not an
adjustment for any country.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
But I just think it makes sense.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Overall that at least at the professional level, the rules
around the world are the same.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yeah, I just wonder if they'll be pushed back. What
rules are you talking about are you going to make
them all the same? Are they all us a rule?
Speaker 3 (12:59):
I don't think they have to be. Well, that's what
I'm saying. Like to get people on board.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
It can't be like your ball guard and you're gonna
tell us to play the way, you know, the way
you guys play.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
I think that is where the issue.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
And I think they want to make the international thing
just a little bit different so that when you play
these things, it's not an extension of the NBA or
you're still playing you know what I mean, what we're
used to seeing.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
It could be a little different.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
I do think the NBA would have the advantage and
I would even say should in that it is the
best league in the world.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Right and they got clout, they got money, you know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Remember they got rid of the trapezoy lane. I think
in two thousand and eight, you know, so that you
know that's an adjustment.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Or it was twenty ten.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
They announced it in two thousand and eight, but it
was twenty ten.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
So I just it's not like the biggest thing in
the world.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
But I just think again, like basketball, now, you know,
the international countries are making a huge impact on the
NBA and American basketball in general, And so I just
think that the world is smaller now and we should
if we're playing this same game, we're competing against each other,
(14:18):
we should have.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
The same rules.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
I mean, it makes sense, but I could see where
they could be a pushback or just the idea of
not having it all the same and wanting something different,
you know what, I mean, to make it an international contest, Chris.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
To make it uniquely its own. So I think that's why. Well,
I think FEEBA wants their juice, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Yeah, otherwise they're given in, right, Otherwise they're given in
and they're gonna be like, we're gonna be bullied by
the United States.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
They're running this now. They took this over right, right?
All right? Eight seven seven ninety nine or Fox? What
are your thoughts?
Speaker 4 (14:58):
First of all, do you think that team USA this
year with Lebron Steph Durant at all is a lot
to win gold? We think their favorites, Robin I, but
we don't think they're a lot. And then do you
think they should standardize the rules of basketball around the world,
at least at the professional level, so everybody's playing the
(15:20):
same game.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
With the same rules. Your thoughts next, Chris and Rob

star and legend studed Team.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
USA and Men's basketball? Your thoughts? Also? Should we standardize
the rules across the world. Did we go? Hey, how
about Suki and Seattle.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio on this
TV theme song forth of July Toys Day.
Speaker 8 (16:42):
Hey guys for the July Yes, how are you? How
about hiding yourself?
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Great?
Speaker 9 (16:47):
We are great, manig good. We should win it with
lots of talent. But I agree with you, guys, on
takes a lot, just because nowadays, all around the world,
it's more competitive than it ever has been.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Yeah, yeah, that is the issue. And the US stars
are older. You got injury prone guys. To Chris, we
got we got the coach squad is long in the tooth.
Half of the team is either older injury right, Yeah,
that's the problem. Thanks soon If if some of the
(17:23):
wrong guys get injured, now, you know, does that hurt
your overall shooting or your overall defense?
Speaker 3 (17:30):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Like and you know, Chris, I'll say this, Lebron being
a part of the team as your years are ready
to melt away, you're forty gonna be forty years old? Really,
God forbid, And I'm not putting no juju out there,
God forbid.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Well, do you know what I'm.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
Saying I'm not worried so much. I mean, I guess
you should be about injury. That's certainly a possible.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
I'm just saying you don't have that many years left.
Lebron has done the the uh really he won gold medals,
Chris right.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Yeah, I mean, but this is like I said, it's
it's another it's our latest and probably I said, our
last chance.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
The big boy in the world.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
He's still one of the top players in the world,
certainly one of the top of American players, and also
just his experience.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Get it. But you're right, it's definitely an injury risk.
It's a chance. Robert in Georgia, what's up, my man, Robert,
how are you?
Speaker 8 (18:30):
I'm blessed man. How I don't know, man.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
We're doing Greg good to hear your voice, buddy.
Speaker 8 (18:35):
I'm too happy to have you have your back. Education. Well,
thank you, no, father, I wanted that definitionally both of y'all.
I definitely think that it's gonna be uh walk it
easily as I'm gonna use by Charles Barkley Boar as
I guarantee it's gonna we're gonna walk through each I
don't agree with the age difference than thinking that think
(18:56):
that's gonna make a difference because it's only like six
to eight games, like King games at the max. It's
not like you're saying eighty two games that we will
be fine and our talent is just wait. Overall, only
tea that may have a chance. May that's Canada.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
Maybe well I would here's the thing and stay on
the line. You remember when we said the Redeemed team
with Lebron and Kobe and all those guys were in
their prime, d Wade, Dwight Howard. We only beat Spain
by eleven points in the championship game, the gold medal game,
and that's when they were at their best like that.
(19:34):
Why do you think it's such a lock?
Speaker 3 (19:36):
I don't know understand that.
Speaker 8 (19:38):
I wanted to say out for one, I want to say,
we can have y'all, we can have a little wing better.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
You know, let's do it.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Let's do it. And you look, you look, how far
are you from Atlanta?
Speaker 8 (19:49):
I say in Atlanta? I say in Riverdale?
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Okay, you know I want to rhyme take you, you
know where I want to go for wins.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Magic c.
Speaker 8 (20:00):
To ask you a question, you know, I think it's
a lot just because at the end of the day,
we got too much exchance and our talent is way better.
You can't think of the team like you're saning Slovenia.
All of this have one start. Whether it's whether it's
Joki or whether it's John, they just have one thought.
BEFI Canada, we have a team full of ten and
twelve stars, so we wouldn't be fine.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
I agree with that, But that don't you think that
was I get it. These weren't our absolute best players
last year, but we did have several stars on that team.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Anthony Edwards, was it Damon? I think was he on
that team?
Speaker 4 (20:34):
But the point is still I mean, Germany wasn't full
of NBA stars.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
They had the Wagners, you.
Speaker 8 (20:40):
Know, to be just like you know, they had them
to have teams chemistry. I just think, yeah, I gonna takeover.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
But thank you, I hope you right.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
We appreciate that we got a wing bet on it
and we could go to the Buffalo Wild Wings.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
It doesn't have to be Chris, all right? Is that fair?
That's fair? Let's do that all right? All right? Quickly
bred quick.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
Bread quick, yep, quick, Thanks guys, This is perfect for
Throwback Thursday because you know that ninety two team was
every one of those guys. They were a little older too. Really, yeah,
you looked at it, but they had dog in them.
And what I look at now is I do think
that we've got a good chance because you look at
(21:25):
you look at the team that we have. There's actually
a few guys that were MVPs in the NBA. But
by the time we have the next Olympics, there's a
very good possibility that we won't have a single MVP
from the United States because of the way Europe is dominating.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
No doubt. You know what, that's a great I go
who the last NBA MVP?
Speaker 4 (21:52):
Westbrook one, But that's a great you know, that's a
great point.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
That's a great point. It really, it really is a
great point. Thanks.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
Thanks looking at Hardened Westbrook, those were probably the last two.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
Yeah, Harden and twenty eighteen. Rob was the last American
born MVP, wow.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
And Westbrook before him, then Curry for two years in Durant.
Uh So, outside of them, I mean, Dirk had been
the only Dirk and I guess Elijah won have been
the only international players who'd ever won MVP.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
So yeah, he makes a great point.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
All right, We are going to get to Gary Sheffield
Junior in a moment, but first, Kevin wired with the
update keV.
Speaker 10 (22:41):
And we're seeing the Europeans now go at the top
of the draft in the last two years have been
guys from France. So I think it's gonna be a
MVP for the European side of things for years to come,
at least the way with the way the trend is
going there.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Or even just international I mean shape shake gilgis yes
from Canada.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Yeah, yeah, here comes winby at some point everyone knows.
Speaker 10 (23:03):
It's so it's the US isn't as much of a
since for the gold medal as maybe they haven't have
been in the past, So we'll see if they can
get through it. I remember though, in that game against
Spain in two thousand and eight, I think they the
Spanish got to within what three points.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
It was a nail bider.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Kobe had to, you know, play great defense and start
scoring because he remembered made himself kind of a you know,
just a defensive player for the team.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
But yeah, it was close, it was it took all
we had no doubt.
Speaker 10 (23:36):
Well, the Olympics taking place at the end of the
month over in Paris, so we'll see how the Americans do.
But as for what's going on right now in the
fourth of July holiday, we do have a few games
going on right now. Giants and Braves, Matt Chapman with
a go ahead home run in the top of the
fourth inning, as San Francisco getting three runs in that
fourth to leave the Braves three to two. Top of
(23:56):
the fifth inning down in Atlanta, Rockies and Brewers, Colorado
leads this one, one nothing top of the second inning,
raised with a three to nothing lead against the Royals.
They're also in the top of the second inning Dinondbacks
and Dodgers. That's set to get going maybe about thirty
forty minutes from now. Over in Los Angeles, everything else
has gone final. Nationals and Mets began the day with
(24:18):
Washington blanking New York won nothing. Cardinals and Pirates go
to extra innings where Saint Louis wins at three to two.
The Reds and Yankee Cincinnati sweeping New York eight to four,
and that opened the door for Baltimore to take a
couple of games lead in the Al East, although they
did loose to the Mariners today seven to three. They
did win the previous two games of that series, Seattle,
for their part, snapping a four game losing streak as
(24:41):
they're now clinging to the top of the Ale West
by two games over the Houston Astros, who right now
find themselves on a red hot streak of their own.
They did win again today against the Toronto Blue Jays
five to three, Red Sox Marlins that went to extra innings.
Boston wins at six ' five in twelve Guardians the
White Sox eight four twins pound the Tigers twelve to three.
(25:03):
That game called early in seven innings. Cubs in Philly,
Chicago getting two home run two three run home runs
from Ian Happy went four for four on the day
as the Cubs take down the best team in baseball,
the Phillies ten to two, but Philadelphia is still with
the best record at fifty seven and thirty. Padres get
a home run from Jeriksen a profar en route to
(25:23):
a three to one victory against the defending champion Texas Rangers,
and the Athletics shot at the Angels five nothing just
a piece of NFL news, you guys opened the show
with it. Dak Prescott seen in a walking boot on
vacation and he was posted on social media. But apparently
I'm no longer wearing the boot after suffering a minor
foot spring, but it's not expected to impact him when
training camp begins on July twenty fifth.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
That's you guess.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
And keV, did you mention that player from the San
Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Who Victor Wimbinyama?
Speaker 1 (25:53):
Everyone knows a twim that was such an obvious set
said that the first time I've heard that one?
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Wait an you never heard of the Wimby song? Wait
a minute, one more time for Kevin. Everyone knows it's
whim who sings that?
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Rob?
Speaker 3 (26:11):
The Association? Let's keep it there? Come on?
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Is me.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Single time and the Association talking about an NBA player?
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Yes, thank you, Kevin.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
All right, We're live from the tiereck dot Com Studios.
Our next guest is the host of Yankees Unloaded. We
welcome in Gary Sheffield Junior. Gary, Welcome to the show.
Speaker 9 (26:38):
Gary, Chris, how's it going?
Speaker 5 (26:41):
Rob?
Speaker 9 (26:41):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (26:42):
What's up? Everyone knows it's Wimby. I just want you
to know that he's like, what I'm gonna talk bass?
Go ahead, right right, all right, hey, all right, go ahead.
I'm gonna say let's start here.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
I mean the Yankee di scopling five and thirteen?
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Is that one?
Speaker 1 (27:02):
It in four and thirteen in the last seventeen games.
But I think people aren't looking at They've had some
major injuries. Rizzo Stanton is not the same offense, and
it's basically just Judge.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Am I right about what's happened here?
Speaker 9 (27:18):
No, you're right, And I like how you guys set
me up. You didn't want to bring me on when
the Yankees were hot.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Now all the right, you want to bring me on.
Speaker 9 (27:25):
So yeah, no, you're absolutely right. Though they have a
lot of big injuries. The biggest injury was John Carlos Stin.
He had a huge bounce back year. I know we
cover him a lot at MLB BRO, and I'll tell
you this right now. He was a guy I think
he was maybe close to leading for a comeback Player.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Of the Year.
Speaker 9 (27:42):
Yes, and when you have a guy go down like
that in the middle of the lineup, behind Judge, behind Soto,
it's a huge blow for this team. And you're seeing
right now there are already two games back in the
division and they need to get him back on the field,
whether it be him Dominguez, they need somebody because right
now a lot of guys as a going cold. They're
big prospect Anthony Volpi, he's hitting two fifty, he's not
(28:04):
hitting homers, he's striking out a ton. So yeah, this
Yankees team right now, they're not looking like the Yankees
that we remember.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
You mentioned Stanton, and obviously injuries have just defined so
much of his career. How frustrated is the fan base?
I mean, I gotta believe that they're just fed up.
I'm fed up with Stanton's injuries. I know it's not
necessarily his fault, right, but it's just ridiculous.
Speaker 9 (28:30):
It's like having a kid that just can't stop peeing
the bed, right, It's just it won't stop. And he
wants to be on the field more than anybody. I
think that's what I've learned about stan is that he's
a professional. He's a guy who's never shortcuted preparation and
he's always wanted to be out there. He never makes excuses.
So the fact that he handles the media and says
it's unacceptable how often I'm off the field. He comes
(28:53):
into this year, you know, people can get on him
about jogging around the bases all that stuff, but he
wants to be out there, and so to see him
hurt and not able to help this Yankees team, it's disappointing.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
How about the year that Aaron Judges having.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
I mean there was a fifty game sample size where
he had the highest ops of anybody doing that for
a right handed hitter. He's on pace right he could
hit almost seventies close to that.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
He had a terrible April.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
How surprised that, how good he's been, and during that
fifty game stretch he BETTEDT three ninety eight for fifty
game stretch where most guys in the big leagues Gary
aren't even hitting over two hundred.
Speaker 9 (29:34):
Now, yeah, Well, if you remember the last time I
joined you with Fox Rob, we were actually talking about
if Aaron Judge could actually maintain this and actually break
the record. Now, long story short, he does break that record.
But what happens when you bring in a guy like Soto,
It's like giving Jordan Scottie pittens. You're unlocking. Essentially, he's
bringing up his floor. And right now, the floor to
(29:56):
Aaron Judge is hitting three hundred driving in forty it's
a future Hall of Famer.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
What about and we could have the first two Triple
Crown winners.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
Since ninthly like two guys in the same what is it, nineteen,
nineteen thirty three.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
Yeah, yeah, So I think Oughtany's got a good shot
the RBI. I know they've put him at you know,
he's been leading off with bets out, so that can
cut down on his RBI opportunities. But he's been consistent,
Like unlike Judge, who started slowly and now has been
on fire, he's been consistently great all year. So of
(30:36):
those two, which one do you think has the better
chance to get the Triple Crown?
Speaker 9 (30:42):
Oh, is definitely Aaron Judge. And that's all health related.
All that's health related. And the way Juan Soto plays,
he's the type of guy where he's not really trying
to hit the ball out of the ballpark. He's more
of an overall player where he's just trying to get
on base, hit the ball the other way, more of
an old school player that we all love, but sets
up Aaron Judge to do damage and put up crooked
(31:03):
numbers for the Yankees. But as far as Otani goes,
you already know the story about Mookie Betts. He's been hurt.
They're trying to get him out there. And Otani right
now is hitting lead off. That's not gonna help his
army eye. Right that's having said that Stephen Kwan and
Cleveland right now, that's the real problem right now for
Aaron Judge is what that boy over there in Cleveland
is doing, is hitting three sixty five. The guy is
(31:24):
the real deal?
Speaker 1 (31:25):
And is he a real deal? I mean, he just
got enough played appearances to qualify, right And I just
I don't he doesn't have any history to say that
this guy's going to lead the league in hitting. And
I'm not poo pooing it is July, I get it.
But he just barely has enough at bats.
Speaker 9 (31:44):
Oh no, I totally understand that. But the analytics show
is he's a guy who doesn't swing and myths and frankly,
he's in a really good lineup. He squeezed right in
front of Jose Ramirez. He's got protection in that lineup.
It's not as much protection as a lot of these
other candidates have, but he's got some. So I think
Steven Kwan is going to give it a run. It
reminds me actually a lot of Maglar or Donia back
(32:06):
with Detroit. He didn't have a ton of pedigree to
go out there and give you three seventy five every year,
but one year he did. And I think this is
that year for Kawan.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Let me ask you this.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
You brought up Otani, we both did about him batting
first with Bets out, and I know Bets will be back,
but if for whatever reason, Bets wasn't, and you know,
we get to the home stretch of the season and
Otani is in the hunt for the triple crown, But.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Do you think that they would move him.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
To third or fourth again, you know, with it to
get more RBI opportunities if he was had a chance
to get to triple crown.
Speaker 9 (32:49):
I think Muki Betts and Otani have both shown they
can hit anywhere. I've seen Rooki Betts hit third for Boston.
I've seen him go to La hit lead off of
that team. I've seen Otani lead off of the Dodgers,
lead off of the Angels. I've seen him hit third
or fourth. It works for both of them. And I
know they talked to Mooki Bets today. I think it
was yesterday after they discussed and said do you mind
moving in the lineup, and he said, whatever's working for Otani,
(33:11):
I'll just fit in right around that. And I think
the Dodgers are gonna actually listen to what mooki Best
is saying, because that's a good problem to have. I
think in general, you probably just leave Otani alone and
just slide bets right behind him.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Wow. Yeah, that's gonna be interesting.
Speaker 9 (33:27):
That good of a player.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
One last thing of you the Yankees and Juan Soto,
who has been able to buck the odds of coming
into New York, embracing everything and dealing with, you know,
like the pressures of playing in the big city.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
He's been great.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Do you do you try to sign him in the
during the season or or do you open it up
when the Mets are going to have some money and
some say or some other teams, what do you do
with him?
Speaker 9 (33:53):
Well, I'll tell you right now. A lot of people
view the replacement to Juan Soto in just in case
he does leave, Jason di Mingez. But one thing we
don't know about Jason di Mingez is what he's gonna
do with the bright lights come on, What's he gonna
do when everyone's watching, when everyone's talking about him on
the radio, how's he going to respond? We already know
how wants so to respond. And I think a lot
of people before he ever got there said that guy
(34:15):
just moves around like a Yankee. I think the Yankees
would be fools not to open the check book for
a player that they know can perform there. He's a
no brainer return for me. I mean, you got to
pay him five hundred and six hundred million, whatever the
reason they make all that.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
Money, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
All right, that's great stuff from Gary Sheffield Junior.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
Keep up with the great work man. Thank you Gary, and
happy for us.
Speaker 9 (34:36):
Appreciate you guys. Hey you two guys, thank you.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Yeah, Rob.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
I think there's one player in the NBA who clearly
has the most pressure on him more than any other
player in the association.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
We'll get to that next. A A couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox sports
Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search f
s R to listen live.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
All right, couple, that was a good show.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
The singles live Yeah, Living single, Living, single, married did you.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Watched it? It was like the Black Friends? Was it Friends?
It was? I was based off of Friends, is based
off of Living Single? Was living Living Single was first?
I think, yeah, it was first. It was based off
of It was a.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
Life, So Living Single was a white version of I
mean Living Friends.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
But a lot of shows are like, that's good because
because uh, the Golden Girls are kind of similar to
with them living together, you know what I mean a
lot of shows they steal from each other, like the
premise of it and then Chris, they just put a
different spin on it.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
But that was a good show, no doubt about it. No,
it was. I loved it. I love Overton. He's my
favorite character. He had the voice we had. We did
have Kim. She wasn't in person, she was just on
she was and she was she listened to our show.
(36:12):
Remember I met her? She remember when we met each other.
She was, yeah, can we get her again? I was like,
two d you know.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
That's when we used to have celebrity what we call
it celebrity?
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Why do we do it again? You know?
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Well, Chris, his roller dex is empty now, you know, Chris,
I did.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
I am the one that you know me. Yeah, all right, Rob,
I mentioned that I.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
Think there's a player in the n b A who
is under the most pressure this year, and I don't
know if I've said it, if you've heard me say it.
So I think it is Joel Embiid. And a lot
of people might say, oh, Paul George going to Philly.
They got mbat in Maxie. The pressures on Paul. No
(37:04):
to me, the pressures on Mbat.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Rob.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
Everyone else at his level right has now won a
championship except Luca, but Luke at least got to the finals.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
NBAT. Rob has never even been to a conference finals.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
And he's had some great players, you know, with him,
James Harden, obviously Maxie and now you got George and Maxie.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
I get it. You need George to stay.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
Healthy, and Embiid himself needs to stay healthy. But Rob,
he's reached a point where all the regular season stuff,
the accolades, the MVP.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
It doesn't matter that the MVP doesn't feel the same.
Speaker 8 (37:46):
Now.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
I well, I think, well, here's what I'll give you,
because I do think there was a and I voted
for him, and I'm fine with my vote for him.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
He was great that year.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
But I do think a lot of people felt like
Jokic should have won it. They felt like race, Remember
Kendrick Perkins brought race into the equation and then n
felt like that became.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
An issue and who knows.
Speaker 9 (38:12):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
So he entered last season, Rob like there was like
he definitely ain't went into this year that was ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
But he played so well.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
He was phenomenal before his first in Great right, and
so I think he actually got to a point where
he was like people were like, yo, dude is the
MVP right now. And so I don't think it feels
bad that he won that MVP, but it feels bad
that Trey Young knocked him out of the playoffs and
(38:45):
Jalen Brunson and guys like that, And so I think
it's on him, Rob, And I think I don't know
what he does, what his off season program is, what
his dyet is, like, I think his diet's gotten better.
But he should I'm serious. He should pick the brain
of Lebron James this summer. He'll be with him on
Team USA about how to stay healthy. Does he need
(39:08):
to lose weight or even talk to Lebron's trainer who'll
probably be there, you know what I mean, Like, get
some tips because that's the only thing holding him back.
Speaker 8 (39:16):
Rob.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
I mean when he's healthy, he's as good as it gets, right,
you've seen it.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
I mean he out He regularly outplays Jokics when they play.
Now that's not often, right, last year played each other once.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
But talked quite a few times.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
Well, yeah, he had like he played him once last
year was great. I think he had forty something and
then didn't play the next game. But you know, I
think the pressure is on because at the end of
the day, it's all about winning, and we're past the
point with h B where we're just going to be
impressed with his individual play. Now, it's great and it'll
(39:55):
get him probably in the Hall of Fame and all that,
but if he really wants to start getting that that
respect that's reserved for champions, he's obviously got to win.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
So I do think the pressure's on him more than anybody.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
All Right, we got an hour left here on TV
Themes on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
Keep it locked
