great article about Team USA and of course the men's
(01:34):
basketball team, Rob trying to win our fifth straight gold medal.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
We dominate.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
We've won seven of the last eight since we started
playing the NBA players. But this one I think will
be tougher than people are expecting. But we'll get all
that from Joe. How you doing, man?
Speaker 2 (01:53):
All good? How are you? Chris Bussard? How are you?
Speaker 4 (01:56):
I'm great, I'm great. I'm great. Sound like I caught
you off guard?
Speaker 1 (02:01):
No, no, no, all good. I was talking to Rob g.
But things are are good. On this Friday holiday, it's
kind of weird because yesterday was a holiday, and then
we worked and we're working today and then you have
the weekend. It just feels weird, like today doesn't feel
like a Friday. But it comes the weekend looking forward
to it and all as well.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yes, yes, the weekend is here.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
We work, We put in work, We worked through the holidays,
so you know, that's how it is.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
But it was good.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
We had a good show yesterday and we're gonna have
a great show today.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
So I want you to see my shirt. Can you
see what I got on my shirt? Over here? The
White Show? I see, I see it, but I can't
read it.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Southern Connecticut. You're always saying, I don't rep my school,
oh son, culture whatever whatever. I was wearing that today,
driving with the top down.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
I noticed, Yeah, I notice you're wearing it under underneath.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
No, you are shirts. Nobody see it. No, it's freezing
cold in here. Seriously, it's ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Well, I bet it's burning up outside there.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
It is incredibly hot. There are you? Oh my gosh,
muggy like a mug.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Yes, But anyway, the Acaba cru super producer Rob G
is back.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
From his two day vacation.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
On the social media, of course, the great Elijah Sabuna
on the updates you just heard of, Moncey Belanos and
on the ones and twos info DJ Alex Tight on
this funky flashback Friday is none other.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Than all the other engineers and producers. Are they jealous?
They should be, They're just jealous.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
I've never Rob heard anybody get that type of intro.
Rob G doesn't get that type of intro. Tysher doesn't
get that type of intro. Nobody does except Mary Mary, Mary, and.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Again right there, she gotta be on her toe. Ay
you shut it up? Though, very nice?
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yes, she she dropped it. She dropped the ball.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
But all right, so anytime I'm like be on the
on the lookout for a chance to throw that Mary
Mary in. You can't go wrong with that Mary.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Speaking of bugging, some people think that Tank Dell, nice
young receiver, real promising for the Houston Texans, uh is
bugging because on an appearance Rob recently on I Am Athlete,
he said this about his outstanding young quarterback.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
He bring a special type of swag too when you
come into place, so you can see it in Yeah,
for sure. FOREL like CJ got the opportunity to be
the best quarterback in the league. Not me just saying
it because who he is to me, But just like
what I'm seeing him do every each and every week,
like what the world see they seeing exact little we see, man,
how he's just coming out there and as a twenty
(05:03):
one year old man going against you know, grown man,
you know, and he out there just balling every week.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
It's like how consistent he is all that just play effected.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
I feel like CJ got to just keep doing what
he's doing to bridge the gap between him and my
homes man.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
All right, look, CJ Stroud is great. We'll see you know,
he's got to do it again this year. I liked him,
you know that, Rob, coming out of Ohio State, I
thought he should have been the number one pick.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
And he can be absolutely great.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
And Tank Dell's his teammate too, So obviously you should
say something like that.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
But I'm gonna say this.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
I think the best quarterback in the league. I think
it's off the table for the next seven eight years,
like it's Patrick Mahomes. Now, I'm not saying it's impossible
for some to eclipse him, but Rob, I think what
it will take to eclipse Patrick Mahomes is the best
(06:08):
quarterback in the league in you know, the next seven
years or so. You know, however long Mahomes is prime
last is you gonna have to win big like him.
He's obviously put up great numbers. You have to win
big like him and put up great numbers. Now, I
(06:28):
do think CJ. Stroud can win an MVP, if not
more than one. We know Lamar Jackson's one too. I
do think that CJ. Stroud can have a better individual
season here or there than Patrick Mahomes. Some might argue
he'd had a better season last year. You know, we've
(06:48):
Rock Purty May have had a better regular season last year,
Like you know, guys will have better regular seasons. Tom Brady,
the goat by in most people's estimation, was only first
team All Pro three times in his career. That means
he was viewed as the best quarterback only three times,
even as he was viewed as the goat by many.
(07:10):
But Patrick Mahomes rob to me, he's won at such
a rate and obviously individually he's been great as well
that I don't think it's even up for debate for
the next several years unless Houston, powered by CJ Stroud,
(07:31):
becomes what Kansas City's become and like starting now because
the Mahomes started like in MVP's first year as a starter, and.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Then a Super Bowl is next year. That's how fast
it has to start happening.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
And if CJ can do that, then great, But I
don't see that happening.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
So uh, props to Tank, props to CJ.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
But I just think the best player in the world
is off the table right now.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
I don't think that it is. I think the CJ
is too soon for me. Okay, I just can't get
with that off of one year. This year will be
important to me. To just see how year number two goes.
But the Patrick Mahomes thing, it's definitely can change very
quickly by a bad year or by somebody else having
(08:22):
a better year.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Even when Mahomes won, if we could.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Go back and everybody thought, oh my god, this guy's
gonna win the MVP every year and look at his
numbers and blah blah blah blah blah, and he won
a Super Bowl. Lamar came in and was unanimous as
an MVP. We're talking about during the Mahome Zerra. Then
the next two years, an older Aaron Rodgers, who people
had written off and said, oh, you know, he can't
(08:46):
play anymore, he's broken down, came back and won back
to back MVPs during the Mahomes Zerra. So you could
say Chris who might be regarded but it doesn't mean
that he's the best quarterback or or he's the most
accomplished back, but easily easily Lamar coming off of the
(09:08):
second MVP where he almost was unanimous for a second
straight what do he lose about he only missed he
missed one vote and two MVP votes and and Chris
obviously would talking hypothetical, but what happens. If the Ravens
finally get it together and win next year. Lamar is
that guy and he finally wins and gets there, then
(09:30):
you start to go, wow, Lamar won again another MV again. No,
I'm talking about m VP, and he finally won a
super Bowl. Yeah, but I gotta give you like it's
on the table, doesn't mean that it can't happen.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
But if he if Lamar were to win the Super
Bowl next year, that means he's better than Patrick Mahons.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
It just depends on what happens. I'm just saying people,
it's it fluctuates. You might say Mahomes is the most
accomplished now playing, but that doesn't mean every year he's
the best quarterback.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
I agree that every year, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
But I'm saying, but this is my point, because Mahomes
did not have the best season of any can back
last year.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Of course, but I think he is.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Come playoff time, he was the best and he does
that repeatedly. He is fifteen and three in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
That's tredigous.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
He's played what six seasons as a starter and he's fifteen.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
And or five seasons as a start, No.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Six, I'm sorry, and he's sixteen, fifteen and three.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
He's one playoff victory behind.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Joe Montana who's in second place, and obviously Tom Brady
is way ahead, He's got thirty five. But Mahomes' playoff record,
like the win percentage is, is just way way way
out in front of it everybody else, So I would
ask you, so I agree, and I said that in
my open Rob.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Yeah, I think CJ.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Heck maybe this year could win MVP, or someone else
another quarterback outside of Mahomes could win MVP, but that
doesn't mean they're better than Mahomes. I don't think Lamar
winning MVP last year. To me, the thought never crossed
my mind that he's better than Mahomes. And even had
(11:29):
he beat him in the playoffs, I think I still.
I mean, Mahomes has won three Super Bowls in six
years as a starter.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Yeah, but that's like outlandish, I think. And he's been
great individually too, But sometimes I think you're clouded by
the Super Bowls. And what I mean by that is
when you look at his numbers, Chris last year, Mahomes
at the second fewest passing yards in his career, second
fewest touchdown passes, the most interceptions, and the most turnovers
(11:57):
in his career. The the Mahomes and the Chiefs offense
had their their lowest scoring output, and they went two
months without winning back to back games and in the
Super Bowl seven touchdowns, five picks, a passer rating up
eighty five point two with ten sacks. So I get,
(12:19):
when you win, you don't look at any of that
other stuff. It's just like, well he won, That's all
that matters. And I'm not saying that that doesn't count.
But there last year there was a lot to not
like about the offense. How in the world did how
much of that was on him? No, but he put
that part of it.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
It's not all on it.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
We know he had the worst receiving I say, the
worst receiving gourd in the league.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
They led the league in drop But we don't always
do we always do that when we go And I
give you the Aaron Rodgers defense of the Packers.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Yeah, because the Rockets show you were Rogers' numbers didn't
stack y.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
But I could also show you where they give up
forty points and then you have to throw Itever.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
No, But but they fell behind. I don't want to
make it an Aaron.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
Rodgerson, but they fell way behind those three wild ride Well,
let me they fell way.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Behind while Rogers was not scoring.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
He and then the team would get a big league
go into prevent and he starts scoring.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
The Pattis stats. That's what's happened.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
He had most of his three or four playoff games
where he didn't even get the ball like like he did.
They lost because you know that was the sudden death
where he didn't even touch the foot even.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Okay, then let's take away the cham Let's take away
the NF time game that he did win because he
didn't play way one touchdown, two picks.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
But my point, man, you know, I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
But my point is is that there's a lot not
to like the last about Mahome.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yes, what told you?
Speaker 1 (13:46):
The offense was awful, He missed the lay, had a
lot of turnovers.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Chris fourteen picks. I mean, that's that's not at hell
team normally five. Not for him.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
No, he's one of the eight quarterbacks and every other
thing that makes no sense to me. You're so high
on him, But the last two Super Bowls. You didn't
even pick him. I don't even understand that he's super.
I'll tell you why he's so great, but you didn't
pick him two years.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
I'll tell you why.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
I don't get it, because even though I think he's great,
doesn't mean I think he's gonna win every year. I mean, seriously,
and he's proven me wrong. But I mean, that's ridiculous.
Tom Brady won seven times and I don't know how
many years, twenty something years, and he's regard as the
best quarterback ever. So that's a third of his time
(14:31):
he won. So you can't say, just because you think
somebody is the best, you're gonna pick him to win
the Super Bowl every year.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Who do you think is the best quarterback in the
league right now? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Just the best quarterback in the league, right Lamar, oh gosh,
two and four in the playoff.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
You didn't ask me about a playoff, reckt, but the
first quarterback that counts Lamar, crazy two MVPs and it
was and almost unanim twice. I mean, I'm talking matter
the ball, That don't matter what you're doing in the
play It.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Don't matter to you. That that don't matter to you.
Money to you get it done in the playoff.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
It doesn't matter to you, Parker, What was the matter
to Your short menu doesn't win your love.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
I'm crying foul on Rob Parker hipocrisy.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
No short menu wins. And look, did you watch himself
in the playoffs? That don't count? I watched Lamar? Did
you did you watch Lamar? I watch Lamar play forty
on Christmas night? Oh god, oh my god.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
That was in the playoff game. No, that was that
made him throw the ball every down. You can't win
like that. That's not who he is.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox You'll turn away
in is the best quarterback in the league? Even open
for discussion right now? To me, no way, it's clearly
Patrick Mahomes to Rob, it's open and Lamar is the best?
Speaker 2 (16:04):

All right, We're live from the tire rag dot com studios.
The Odd Couple Chris and Rob Tank dlle says his
quarterback c J. Stroud can be the best in the league.
I say, the best in the league ain't.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Open right now.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
You can be the best of the rest, but right
now Patrick Mahomes got that. On lock, Rob says, no,
it's open and it's lamar your thoughts eight seven, seven
ninety nine On Fox.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Mike in AUGUSTA. You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Mike?
Speaker 6 (17:22):
So, gentlemen, how are you up?
Speaker 8 (17:24):
I'm good, I'm good man. I'm gonna agree with Rob Man.
Speaker 9 (17:28):
I like Lamar Jackson as.
Speaker 8 (17:29):
The best quarterback in the league for a couple of reasons.
Teams are absolutely terrified to play Lamar Jackson, and that
playoff loss that was not him. That was a horrible
game plane. They threw the ball when they shouldn't have
been throwing the ball. They got there by running the ball,
and when they got there they didn't dance with who
brought him there.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
That was a he at the opportunity were there. You've
heard this, you listen to the show, so you know,
I agreed with the game plan being horrible.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
They wear the ball some of the times and they
got them. He was on the times.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Some of that was on Lamar. He had chances to
run and he didn't. In fact, there was one the
best run he had when he broke like a twenty
one yarder. Instead of trying to run away from the defender,
he looked back for like five yards. He was looking
back instead of trying to tear away from I think
that's why he lost some weight this year in the
offseason so he can get back to doing what he
(18:22):
did with the breakaway runs.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
But anyway, what about the playoff performances.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
He's got six picks and six touchdowns in six playoff games.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
He's two and four in the playoffs. That doesn't count.
Speaker 8 (18:35):
It counts, but he's still Lamar Jackson and he still
is having to deal with whatever game plan is. But
also I want to say if those two players switch teams,
would he'll be just as good when he have the championships?
If he had Andy Reid and the Chiefs offense and
Mahomes was with Baltimore. If they switched teams, which team
(18:57):
would fall off the most?
Speaker 4 (19:00):
Like I said, I think Mahomes will carry its Last year,
Mahomes carried a team with a horrible receiving corps to
the Super Bowl, a young defense which is gonna just
keep getting better. So I think Mahomes. But you know
it's hard to say. I mean, I think Lamar would
excel with Andy Reid. Almost every quarterback.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Has Sean and Oregon. You're on the eye couple of
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Sean.
Speaker 9 (19:23):
Hey, I don't know who the best quarterback is, but
I'm gonna say Patrick Mahomes ain't the best quarterback. Yeah,
I think he plays for one of the best teams,
best coaches. And I looked back in the past and
when is the best quarterback? Ben Super Bowl winner? I
remember back when Brady won his quarter twer Bowls. He
is hardly ever the best quarterback of the.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Year that year.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
No defense in the first three, Yes, what about the
last one?
Speaker 2 (19:52):
The last one he had one touch? He had no touch.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
But we're talking about we're not talking about so much
in the game.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
I don't think.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
I think we're talking about those seasons.
Speaker 9 (20:00):
Yeah, well, these guys that have these great seasons, you
know who I like. I like guys like toa I
like guys like that guy.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
To put it.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
To who's who was won in six last year against
playoff teams?
Speaker 2 (20:12):
That to him?
Speaker 4 (20:13):
And who has who is always six? When the weather
gets a tad brisk for.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
That to it.
Speaker 9 (20:22):
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Weekend, we got
the blue Stets going on in here Portland.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Nice. I enjoy that, Yes, enjoy it. Thanks Shaw, I
appreciate it.
Speaker 10 (20:34):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Let's go to uh Marco in North Carolina. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
What's up? Marco?
Speaker 10 (20:42):
Hey fell on the best show on the radio.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Thank you.
Speaker 10 (20:48):
The only answer to this question it is Patrick Mahoe.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Thank you. Finally, somebody making sense the.
Speaker 10 (20:56):
Best quarterback in the league. He had his worst wide receive.
Of course, the season nobody picked them to win against
Buffalo in Buffalo, this was the only year to get
Patrick Mahomes, and now they just drafted a steady wide
receiver to can't over for Kyriek Hill. There's there's no
(21:20):
other quarterback in the league that is even on his level.
It's like Michael Jordan in the NBA. There's nobody else
on that level. That's where Patrick Mahomes is.
Speaker 6 (21:29):
At right now.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
I'm with you, all right. We got Joe in that
two to one. That's pretty good to.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
The garden around the corner. But the word lamar, that's
pretty ignited.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Yeah, congratulations don't mean anything because they don't.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
They would three own Mahomes.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
You would be like, see yeah, everybody, Oh yeah with me.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Oh yeah, I'm not eight years old.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
I am a child. Look at me, I'm nine years old.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Look further.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Oh he's having too much fun over here. I'm dying.
I got skates on. I like what mom and dad
are fighting? You going? You mean dad is over here? No,
Mama's at home. Moms dad goes to work. Mom is
at home.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Dad all day, Dad, that's at home.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Mom's at home. No, I'll hold down your jobs.
Speaker 3 (22:31):

Speaker 4 (22:44):
Mind Sam, Speaking of making that paper, he's making paper
writing for the athletic covers the NBA for them. Does
a fantastic job. Friend of the show, Joe Varden, Joe,
what's up?
Speaker 6 (22:56):
I'm going guys, great to be back.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Oh way, great man, we are great. Good to have you.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Great story today on Team USA as they get ready
to defend their.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Gold medal for what the fifth fourth time?
Speaker 4 (23:10):
They're defending it fourth straight and a lot that you
got into.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Let me ask you this first, because Rob and I
talked about this yesterday.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Do you think that we are a lock or you know,
as nothing, of course is impossible, but that we are
essentially a lot this year to win goal?
Speaker 6 (23:31):
You know, Chris, I'm suck in the middle on this
because I recognize the talent. I certainly recognize the star power,
but there are three things that play and one is
going to sound so stupid and obvious, but there's only
five guys on the floor at one time, and there's
only one ball. And then when you add in how
(23:52):
much better the rest of the world has gotten. And
I know that's another cliche, but when you look at Canada,
they're going to send an VT runner up, a finals
you know, a finals MVP caliber He didn't win it,
I know, but caliber guard in Jamal Murray, Dylan Brooks
and Loud Dort are nasty, nasty on the wings and
(24:16):
they're deep, you know, so okay, So that's the second thing.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
And then they're not at All Star team.
Speaker 6 (24:23):
Yeah, and they I mean, and by the way, I
think Jordi Frnandez is going to be one of the young,
very great coaches in our league. So he's the coach
for Canada to look out there.
Speaker 11 (24:34):
And then the third thing is.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
And we've seen this in the NBA time again, is.
Speaker 11 (24:38):
Just the proliferation of the three.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
So you add all that stuff in and like, I
guess I hate to do this, but it's it's more
of a wait and see. Like I think the United
States is going to be a okay, and I think
that you know, the scenarios that I laid out in
the story this morning will be way too much for
any to overcome.
Speaker 11 (25:00):
But if Joel gets hurt or Kawhi gets hurt.
Speaker 6 (25:04):
And then you know, Lebron doesn't defend, and you know
Steph misses a couple of threes in a row like
it's a tight game. And you know, so I think that,
you know, going back to the old Greg Popovich, Wine
and Coach k used.
Speaker 11 (25:20):
A lot appropriate fear.
Speaker 6 (25:24):
This team needs to have appropriate fear as they go
through this training camp, as they go through the friendlies
here all over the world in the next couple of weeks,
and just build this thing the right way.
Speaker 11 (25:34):
Don't leave anything to champ ye.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
But but but Joe, I hear all that. The resumes
are all impressive.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
These guys are old, yes, rob old Joe, Joe. That's
what makes me not feel good about this team. Yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 11 (25:52):
Want to say this.
Speaker 6 (25:53):
I mean, Sean's and I were working on that, like
Lebron's step Avenger story. Two weeks before the end of
the World Cup is when we really started to get
when that this may happen. So that's a long time ago,
and from that moment, you know, once you get through
the star power component, of this, you do start thinking
(26:16):
about the age. I mean, Lebron is you know, he's
shooting forty one percent in three He's still averages twenty
six points a game, but he's thirty nine. And I'll
just say in December, January, and February he doesn't defend.
So I know, they only got to play six games
that count, but he's.
Speaker 11 (26:35):
Got to do it.
Speaker 6 (26:36):
And you know Joel, I mean, Joelle was hurt again
in April, and Kawhi couldn't make it through the season,
you know again, And and Durant is getting up there,
you know, I mean, Steph should be fresh. I'm not
as worried about him. But yeah, like they they are
old by by basketball standards, but they do have an
(26:57):
overwhelming amount of basketball experience. And the one thing I
missed in today's story, I said the reasons why the
Americans did not win when the World Cup was one
they lost sight of one guy on Germany, this guy
named Oapes who doesn't play in the NBA. He got
loose to twenty four points, and then they didn't They
(27:18):
refused to team rebound and defense. And the third the
thing that I missed, But it's all kind of tied together.
Is the coaching staff thought that a lot of that
had to just do with a lack of experience. And
this team, these guys have all played in finals, most
of them, most of the most important players have played
(27:39):
in one in finals, and they know about that extra
inch and that attention to detail, and they aren't going
to miss those close out. They aren't going to allow
guys who are on the scouting report to get loose.
Speaker 11 (27:51):
And if all.
Speaker 6 (27:52):
That is true, that trends towards really good things come
mid August.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
And you brought it up about Joe l Embiid and
Kawhi and all these other along with being old, there's
a lot of guys on there who.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Are injury prone.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
I mean, there's just too many IF's for me, you know,
does this have to happen?
Speaker 2 (28:11):
That has to happen. They got to do this, They
got to do that.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Well, normally, if you were to put this team together
with their resume, you would just be like, this is
a foregone conclusion.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
But you cannot look at this team like that.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
Yes, except I almost I'm pretty sure. Well no, because Drew,
howid it? Eleven of the twelve guys were on the
All Star team this year. That's that's special. The twenty
eight team didn't have that, and I don't even know.
I don't think the Dream Team had it because.
Speaker 11 (28:44):
They had Latner.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
So you know, this is a very very unique team
and they only have to play six games to Cantle.
So get Kawhi through this week, get him through Abu Dhabi,
you know, take it easier in London if you need
to whatever, Damous, Joel, just make sure those guys are
(29:04):
ready to go, you know you. I mean, we also
have to say like to just so we're covering all
of our bases here.
Speaker 11 (29:11):
Lebron and Anthony Davis have.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
Also an injury prone They both did better with that
last year.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Yeah, well you you know you mentioned the injuries, and
what about their NBA teams that are paying them these
ten hundreds of millions of dollars. Is there any concern
particularly with Kawhi even a d and certainly Joel mb Like,
I mean, I think there's a strong argument that Kawhi
and MBA shouldn't even be playing.
Speaker 6 (29:41):
Well, you two know this, but I'm not sure how
well versed the audience is. But dating back to nineteen
eighty nine when the FOEBA you know, global governing board
whatever you want to call them, when they decided that
they were going to let pros play in feber competition,
so Olympics and World Cups, and the NBA Board of
(30:04):
Governors and the commissioners stern at the time when they
got together and decided if they were going to participate,
they decided that they would. And when they made that decision,
I don't want to say it's like written into rule somewhere,
but it's a thing that the teams are not allowed
to tell their players that you can't go play for
your country.
Speaker 11 (30:24):
They can't. They can't do that.
Speaker 6 (30:26):
So is there a concern with the Kawhi lender and
a joe El embiid.
Speaker 11 (30:30):
Of course, but it's it would just be h it is.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
It is not appropriate for them to tell those guys
that they can't play.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
So your article lastly before you go, you talked about
Lebron kind of being the point guard?
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Is that how you think it? Little word?
Speaker 4 (30:46):
I mean, we know in his prime he was essentially
the point guard. He's gotten away from that somewhat, you
know in these last seven years, I think largely because
of stamina. But that's not an issue in these games
because the bench is so deep, you know, the games
are shorter. So how do you think that will work
with him at the point guard? It certainly won't be
him dominating the ball and all that, But I think
(31:08):
he's great. He can be a ball mover and they
got so much talent they need somebody like him at point.
Speaker 6 (31:15):
Well, you're you've hit it right on the head and
then you throw in. He's six ' to eight. He's
still a ridiculous athlete. And we also like we get
caught up now later in his career because he surpassed
Kareem and he's the he's the all time leading scorer.
He's also top five all time in the NBA and
assists and if you didn't read the Athletic story this morning,
(31:37):
which I know you guys did.
Speaker 11 (31:39):
But it points out he's the all time.
Speaker 6 (31:41):
Keen USA assist leader, right, So this is actually like
his favorite role. He loves this and he's going to
get to go. He's going to get to walk or
run the ball up the floor either way, and then
he's going to get to throw it cross court to STEPH,
skip past the STEPH.
Speaker 11 (31:56):
He's going to hit KD.
Speaker 6 (31:58):
You know, he's going to set up Joel like, this
part is gonna work.
Speaker 11 (32:02):
Like the offense was like, we're so disappointed in.
Speaker 6 (32:06):
What happened last summer with the team of like younger guys.
Speaker 11 (32:09):
They still were an absurd offense.
Speaker 6 (32:11):
They lost, They couldn't guard anybody. This team is going
to be better than that offensively, and you hope and
think that the combination of the size and the experience
is going to take care of it on defense.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
All right, that's Joe Varden. Check him out in the
athletic great stuff, man, we appreciate it. So you're traveling
with the team, enjoy yourself. I assume you're going to.
Speaker 11 (32:33):
Yes, sir, I just got to Vegas. You're your first call.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Be careful.
Speaker 6 (32:40):
I'll do that, thanks, all.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
Right, man, see all right, all right, more a couple
coming your way. We talked about Lamar cam Newton gave
him some love. That's next a couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Tirereck dot com is the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Time for Shekel City. All right, here we go a
little Shekel City. Let's start in Oakland.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
I got the Baltimore Orioles minus one and a half runs.
They were on the road taking on the A's in Oakland.
That's my best bet. Dodgers hosting the Milwaukee Brewers. I'm
gonna take the Brewers plus one and a half runs
against the Dodgers. In Los Angeles and Seattle minus one
(33:54):
and a half runs they host Toronto as the Blue
Jays come in. Blue Jays thirty nine and forty eight.
They think that there might be a rummage sale and
they might break up that team. Yeah, Chris, because they
got a lot of players that might need to get
paid real soon, you know what I mean. Yeah, And
they're thirty eight and thirty nine and forty eight coming
(34:14):
into the game. So again, best bet Orioles fifty five
and thirty two minus one and a half runs against
the Oakland A's. I got the Milwaukee Brewers fifty two wins,
Chris only one win less than the Dodgers, the Brewers
in the National League plus one and a half runs
in Los Angeles, and I'm gonna take Seattle minus one
(34:35):
and a half runs hosting Toronto in the Pacific Northwest.
I remember, I'm not telling you who to bet on.
I'm telling you who I bet on. And the Pirates
I was two nothing Mets and they just already tied
the game for Skeens.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
All right, Skiens Man, he's fun to watch, man. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
You know, when you get guys like that, Chris, it's
not often that you know, a top pick is really
as advertised, and he's been as advertised, like my god,
from start number one.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
Yeah, and you just hope, I mean, I hate to
even say it, but you know, you just hope if
he can stay healthy, then he can do this, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
And if you're a team like the Pirates, Chris, if
you have an age at the top of your rotation,
that's how you become good. You're not gonna have a
eight game losing streak because he's gonna start twice during
that You know and give you a chance to win.
That's what a real age does. He avoids you from
going into those kind of skids. You know that record season?
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Yep, yeah, no, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
All right, Rob, we were talking about Lamar Jackson earlier
in the show. You think he's the best quarterback in
the league. I think he's up there, but I don't
think he's better than my homes. But Cam Newton has
some kind words to say about him.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
Here he is.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Do you see or think of yourself as the greatest
dual threat to ever play the game?
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Lamar Jacksons? Why Lamar? Well, Lamar's style is a little
different than mine. He got big play any play. Yes,
he got speed that I never had. And he's just electric.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
And then like I played the game more powerful, You're gonna.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Run through you. They might run around you. I can run,
but I might probably get called big Lamar. They ain't
get caught.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
You know, that was good to came. I mean that's
a lot of humility from camp. I can give him
credit for that because.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
He could have. I agree with him.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
I think Lamar is the best duel threat if we're
if we're not County Steve.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Young, we got we gotta count Steve Young.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
So I think Steve Young was a better if you
you know, he Steve Young was not the caliber runner
that Lamar vict but he was a threat. And but
if yeah, if you count him as a dual threat,
I think.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
He's the best.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
He got two super Bowls, no three super Bowls, one
of the backup, one of the backup.
Speaker 4 (37:03):
But still I think it was two as a backup.
I thought he think he won one as the main guy,
I believe. And he has two m vps, which is
what Lamar Lamar has. I mean, so you're.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
With me, I mean if you got only because he's
got all the other hardware to go along with it.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
But he's not the runner that Lamar is. It never was.
I meant passer.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
I mean like like it's hard for me to look
at somebody who won you know, super Bowls, Chris uh
and m vps and and not think that you know,
And that doesn't mean that Lamar can't get there, you
know what I mean. But but right here, right now,
I can't pooh pooh Steve Young.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
I can't.
Speaker 4 (37:44):
Yeah, yeah, if we counted Steve Young, I definitely got him.
Cam I thought he gave a good explanation. I mean,
he was more powerful Rob That's why he's probably not
playing today, right, because he did take them in so
many hits. They treated him like a running back, the refs.
He was so big and they felt like he did
(38:05):
run over guys. It was tough, and I think his
body just ultimately broke down.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
And then they changed the rules where you could barely
touch the quarterback back.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
It would have been.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Interesting, you know, like how would they have treated him.
I mean, I guess they'd have treated him like Josh Allen,
which is still better than Cam got treated, you know,
but yeah, Lamar.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
The two MVPs.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
The UH is the best running quarterback we've ever seen
and is a good passer who's.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Been getting better and I think will continue to get better.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
And it's incredible to u m vps and only one
time almost unanimous twice. I mean that's crazy, seriously, right, right,
that's crazy. And last year think about last year where
he didn't he didn't get it unanimous. But his numbers,
it was his impact, you know what I mean, more
his numbers.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
No quarterback had crazy numbers.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Right, but his numbers weren't through the roof for anything
like that, but his impact wasn't the winning.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
Look, He's won seventy five percent of his game. That's
another reason I give him the nod over Cam, because
neither of them won the Super Bowl, of course, but
Cam got to one. But Lamar's win percentage robbing the
regular season seventy five percent, you'll be hard price fifty
two percent.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
You'll be hard pressed to find people Chris who played
a number of years with a seventy five.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
All right, we got two hours left on this funky
flashback Friday. Keep it locked. It's the odd couple, Chris
and Rob. Fox Sports Radio,
