you talked about Tua and you talked about Dak Prescott
and not pay. I agree from one standpoint with you
that I agree you should pay the player, not the position.

So I agree with that just because somebody that the
last quarterback was the highest paid doesn't mean the next
contract should be bigger than that. It should be about
what you've done as a player, your numbers.

of this was just a report right that it's not.

Close yet, and it was talk that they thought that
they would be a deal. I don't know what else
they want for Tua. He's not.

He's not Lawrence, he's not six foot five, he's not
he's not going to be that guy. But man, he
stayed healthy last year. We got he went leaped over
a big hurdle. You gotta admit that Sean, where people
weren't sure if this guy could stay healthy with the concussions,
He's put up some tremendous numbers. I know they had
a bad playoff game, and you know they faltered against

some other teams and it wasn't a perfect season.

And then probably the best part is some of the
numbers rob G that we talked about when it came
to tour. As far as what he was able to
put up, I think only five other quarterbacks had done it.

So the number that's floating around on social media today
because you know, the report came out that the two
sides are far apart. You had a columnist in Miami
say that the Dolphins have quote never had full faith
and belief in Tua. So this stat came out, which
I thought you'd appreciate. Since nineteen eighty. Here's the list
of NFL quarterbacks nineteen eighty.

Here's the list of l quarterbacks who led the NFL
that year in pass yards, yards per attempt, and passer rating.

Drew Brees, Hall of Famer, Philip Rivers potentially Hall of Fame. No, No, no,

too is worth based on what the marketplace is at
quarterback now when you I like too, he's gotten better
every year. But again, he was one concussion removed from
potentially never being able to play again.

At the same time, Rob, he's never thrown for thirty
touchdowns in a season. He's thrown for over thirty five

So it's not like it's a guy that has multiple
years of big time statistics, So why do I have
to pay him the same thing that Joe Burrow is
getting paid, who's taking a team to a Super Bowl,
has two thirty plus touchdown years, who has two four

thousand plus passing yard years, Like, that's what the Dolphins
are saying.

We like to him, We're comfortable with him.

Being our starting quarterback, but we're not going to fall
into this cycle that's starting to happen in the NFL
where just because his contract is up, we have to
pay him on a level that his talent is a
commensurate to being paid.

a quarterback that I know I can really improve upon it.

He got maybe the highest percentage of like his salary,
but not money wise. He's the third highest and he
was like the last guy to get signed. Sean, it's
not automatic. Him and Jared Golf have the same amount
of Super Bowls. They both have none.

No, Jared Goff took the Rams to one though, No,
I got it. They didn't win it. Tua hadn't sniffed
the title game yet total salary.

not automatic that you have to be in some top
five or number one. Jared Goff is tenth. So the
Lions they took care of him, but they didn't go
overboard with Jared Golf, and the same thing with the Dolphins.

seventy five and forty four thirty eight nights, So he's
got multiple years when he's done with.

on average annual value, which seems to be the big
sticking point with you guys, because I think you all agree.
You know, the tenth most money that Jared Goff makes
is much different than Trevor Lawrence being the highest paid
average Antal here's right, here's the top ten. Patrick Mahomes
is number ten, which Rob you've been on a soapbox

that he is one of the worst contracts, one of
the worst contracts.

He had the Chiefs showing over a barrel, okay, after
winning a Super Bowl and an MVP at young and
he could have asked and gotten a fully guaranteed contract
when he signed that half a billion dollar contract.

There, like sixty right, like sixty million dollars sixty of
the half a billion. I mean, it was like one
of the worst contracts and he sold himself short. But
that's why he's going to be tenth, and it'll never

first Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence.

I like their chances, you know. I think he's built
the team the right way. They have the pieces in
place to be aggressive. They're talented offensively. The only hindrance
that I see is is Caleb Williams ready in year
one to make Chicago a playoff team, because we know

green Bay got much better as a year winner.

Georgian was much better.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
Yeah, Jordan, by the end of this was was really good.

If Caleb is ready to make Chicago take another step
based on what they did around him Austin Eckler, you know,
drafting a dooms from from Washington. Then now the division
is really tough because even though men doesn't have legitimate
quarterback played, they're still really talented around the quarterback. So
that's probably my only hesitation to be in full throttle.

This is the Lion's year. But I do like what
Campbell's done, and I think they're heading in the right direction.

Yeah, for me, I needed it to show me a year.
The one year they finally for me, I needed them
to win a playoff game. They got to the NFC
Championship game. I thought they should have beat the forty
nine ers. They they had twenty one zero at half
something like that. No, there was they were up by
twenty one, but not zero, but they had them. They

because they took a field goal. You remember, he took
a field goal at the three yard line. And then
that's where I was like, Okay, maybe this guy gets it.
He wanted to get points on the board, you know,
didn't want to come away from there with nothing, and
gave himself a twenty it might have been twenty four
to three or something like that, showing a twenty one
point lead. And then then the second half he's passing

up points and his quarterback is marching him down in
the red zone, but they couldn't score. And then they
turned everything over to the forty nine ers. And my
point is it's one thing where the division was weaker,
it's not and it's no longer a week division. And
then how do they handle success? You know, you never

know what teams like. The last time the Lions went
to the NFC Championship game, it took them these forty
years again to make it back. I'm not saying they're
going to be on that road, but it ain't automatic.
And that's the whole thing on watching teams. How they
handle success. Do they learn from their mistakes? And is

this really a trend?

And they've turned the corner sean or was it a
blip on the screen. And that's where winning and playing
well year after year and putting it together. So I
think they're right defensively, they gave up a lot of
big plays.

but that was one of their week spots.

They added I think Tarrion Arnold to that second day
like they did some things to improve. But I want
to give you some credit here because you're naturally a
pessimist and you saw a lot of losing in your
Detroit portion of your.

Line covered sports then, and I covered every Lion's game
for TWAYA.

And when you walk up this morning, you wanted to
come on here and say, you know what, Detroit's not
gonna make the playoffs. I don't believe it, I know,
but you wanted to. So I'm just showing the growth
in you. I'm proud of you. You came on, you
were balanced, you said, I'm not jumping off the bridge
and buying Super Bowl tickets in New Orleans yet. But
I do think that they've done some good things. I'll

say this with Jared Goff and on Mine Saint Brown
getting paid, and you have to I don't think either
one of those two young men are like that. But
sometimes you know, when you get the big bag, you
get a little complacent. That might be the only thing.
But you know, I think they got a taste of
what it's like to be playing at that time of year.
I think they saw the support they got from the
city of Detroit. I mean, Detroit showed up and showed out,

and I think they want to experience it again. So
I'm buying Detroit lionstock. I'm simply saying the NFC North
is as tough as it's been in the last decade.

I think this suits him and Frankly Durant, who hasn't
played yet because of the cap and furry. In this sense,
what games on a roster this stacked and deep means
what I Hey, Lebron, still give me twenty hard minutes.
Give me twenty full out minutes. That's all I'm going

to ask. And I think you can get that from guys.
So I look, Lebron's IQ, his physicality is understanding of
the game is unquestioned. And if all he's got to
do is give you spurts of energy, which is kind
of how he carried the Lakers last year, that's a
good time. I think I think it can come through.

I just think it speaks though, to Lebron's greatness in
the sense that just like he can walk in the
gym and practice hard, it's still at forty practices harder
than most guys.

like you're not blocking it, You're not getting in the
way of the shot. And I think that that's why
he becomes so hard to stop in the clutch.

us wins gold, it's because he physically could bang with

offers way more size and physicality and international ball than
there is that we need Embeid. But so Embid's going
to be out there, lebron kd I'll tell you who
else needs to be out there, Kawhi Leonards. He is
still probably the best single defender in this camp. He
is still the guy who for a stretch can absolutely

lock down anybody, right Like, he is just still long
and physical and smart and hard and hard to get around.
So I think you've got to have that guy out
there as well. And then I don't know, I guess
Curry or Booker or whoever shelvers got the hot shooting ants.

or the conversation that you know Lebron tried to lure
some free agents? No, thank you, we don't want a
part of the circus. We don't want a part of
the soap opera of the as the world turns Lebron
and his son and his podcast partner.

I don't think that that was necessarily I think Klay
Thompson was different in the sense that what look, Klay
Thompson could turn it down more money. I know that
the Lakers offered him. I was told four years eighty million.
I got people who have reported that, and he took
three years fifty You know again, I feel like I

need to do this with air quotes, like he only
took three years fifty million dollars, right.

But it's still but it's still thirty million dollars less
than what he was offered, not to play with Lebron
and a year less.

Of security because he wanted to change the narrative going
to his father's team on the West coast playing with
Lebron doesn't change the narrative the same way that going
to Dallas doesn't. And I think Kyrie Irving convinced him like, look, man,
I've changed my narrative here. I think you can do it.
So but I do think that there is something too.

If you've got options, is that where you want to be.
If you've got options, is that is the Lakers with
Lebron and Ad truly a contender. There are certainly perks
and advantages to playing in southern California. There are you know,
like there's a massive fan base and it comes with
some opportunities, but it's not necessarily for everybody. And if

the money is the same, you might not want the hassle,
you might not want to, you know, but you might
see the opportunity to win somewhere else. And I think
that that's kind of what they've run into, is that
they're not this isn't the I don't want to take
people don't want to play with the Lakers, play with
Lebron and for the Lakers, because I don't think that's true.
But I don't think they're this standout. Oh my gosh,

that's the only place I want to be kind of teams.

lot of money to turn down, and it really is.

sides are far apart. You had a columnist in Miami

of NFL quarterbacks nineteen eighty.

So it's not like it's a guy that has multiple
years of big time statistics, So why do I have
to pay him the same thing that Joe Burrow is
getting paid, who's taking a team to a Super Bowl,
has two thirty plus touchdown years, who has two four

thousand plus passing yard years, Like, that's what the Dolphins
are saying.

We like to him, We're comfortable with him.

Being our starting quarterback, but we're not going to fall

where just because his contract is up, we have to
pay him on a level that his talent is a

because they took a field goal. You remember, he took
a field goal at the three yard line. And then
that's where I was like, Okay, maybe this guy gets it.

didn't want to come away from there with nothing, and
gave himself a twenty it might have been twenty four
to three or something like that, showing a twenty one
point lead. And then then the second half he's passing

up points and his quarterback is marching him down in
the red zone, but they couldn't score. And then they
turned everything over to the forty nine ers. And my
point is it's one thing where the division was weaker,
it's not and it's no longer a week division. And
then how do they handle success? You know, you never

know what teams like. The last time the Lions went
to the NFC Championship game, it took them these forty
years again to make it back. I'm not saying they're
going to be on that road, but it ain't automatic.
And that's the whole thing on watching teams. How they
handle success. Do they learn from their mistakes? And is

and buying Super Bowl tickets in New Orleans yet. But
I do think that they've done some good things. I'll

getting paid, and you have to I don't think either
one of those two young men are like that. But

get a little complacent. That might be the only thing.
But you know, I think they got a taste of

city of Detroit. I mean, Detroit showed up and showed out,

to ask. And I think you can get that from guys.
So I look, Lebron's IQ, his physicality is understanding of
the game is unquestioned. And if all he's got to
do is give you spurts of energy, which is kind
of how he carried the Lakers last year, that's a
good time. I think I think it can come through.

I just think it speaks though, to Lebron's greatness in
the sense that just like he can walk in the
gym and practice hard, it's still at forty practices harder
than most guys.

But shouldn't Jason Tatum on one of those guys or
Anthony Edwards be the best player for real?

I mean he's forty years.

Old, you would think, by the way, But if you ask,

so who takes the last shot? And even Anthony I'm
going to go one option. Edwards was like, yeah, I
better be Kevin Durants. If I need one shot to
win a game. I still want Kevin Durant to take it.
There's still just something. And then the select team in

that scrimmage yesterday more than once, with like Lebron and
guys on the floor, we're like, yeah, we're gonna double
Curry like point five meters from the basket, just to
prevent what's next.

And here's my point, this is why that's hard for
me to be convinced that Steph Curry's the greatest shooter
of all time.

Michael Jordan's creating the shot, and if I have to
pitch it to Steve Kerr, I'm going to pitch it.
You know, Kevin Durant cannot only create that shot, but

dude seven foot and shoots a little over his head
like you're not blocking it, You're not getting in the
way of the shot. And I think that that's why
he becomes so hard to stop in the clutch.

He's not only a one of the all time great
shooters and just bucket getters the league has ever seen.
His shot is unstoppable, and he's good enough to create
space where Curry, I don't her name means, but let's

You know, Kurt, can we agree that the world has
closed the gap when it comes to the level of
basketball that's played outside of America. So with that understanding,
I presume there'll be some games that come down last
two minutes in the fourth quarter. Normally who starts is
what matters. But I'm very interested in your opinion. Who
will the five USA members that will be on the

To be fair, I'm going to say that Kerr was
asked about this a little bit and his reaction was, then,
with this roster, I'm going to play it by ear
a little bit and go with the hot hand, which
I think is smart.

Well, there's that too, But I think look, like I said,
if you get to the end of the games, I
think what you're going to see, You're gonna see Joel Embiid.
You need his physicality. He's honestly, he is the key
to this. See the guy we haven't mentioned yet. If
us wins gold, it's because he physically could bang with
Jokic and the gober when byamba front line French Row

offers way more size and physicality and international ball than
there is that we need Embeid. But so Embid's going
to be out there, lebron kd I'll tell you who
else needs to be out there, Kawhi Leonards. He is
still probably the best single defender in this camp. He
is still the guy who for a stretch can absolutely

lock down anybody, right Like, he is just still long
and physical and smart and hard and hard to get around.
So I think you've got to have that guy out
there as well. And then I don't know, I guess
Curry or Booker or whoever shelvers got the hot shooting ants.

or the conversation that you know Lebron tried to lure
some free agents? No, thank you, we don't want a
part of the circus. We don't want a part of
the soap opera of the as the world turns Lebron
and his son and his podcast partner.

I don't think that that was necessarily I think Klay
Thompson was different in the sense that what look, Klay
Thompson could turn it down more money. I know that
the Lakers offered him. I was told four years eighty million.
I got people who have reported that, and he took
three years fifty You know again, I feel like I

need to do this with air quotes, like he only
took three years fifty million dollars, right.

But it's still but it's still thirty million dollars less
than what he was offered, not to play with Lebron
and a year less.

Of security because he wanted to change the narrative going
to his father's team on the West coast playing with
Lebron doesn't change the narrative the same way that going
to Dallas doesn't. And I think Kyrie Irving convinced him like, look, man,
I've changed my narrative here. I think you can do it.
So but I do think that there is something too.

If you've got options, is that where you want to be.
If you've got options, is that is the Lakers with
Lebron and Ad truly a contender. There are certainly perks
and advantages to playing in southern California. There are you know,
like there's a massive fan base and it comes with
some opportunities, but it's not necessarily for everybody. And if

the money is the same, you might not want the hassle,
you might not want to, you know, but you might
see the opportunity to win somewhere else. And I think
that that's kind of what they've run into, is that
they're not this isn't the I don't want to take
people don't want to play with the Lakers, play with
Lebron and for the Lakers, because I don't think that's true.
But I don't think they're this standout. Oh my gosh,

that's the only place I want to be kind of teams.
