What's happened to mister Chris Bussard, how are you.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
I'm doing wonderful. I'm doing wonderful. How about you, Chris?

Speaker 6 (01:48):
I am feeling good. Let me put this on. I'm
feeling great today. What's today? Thursday? Right a TVD on Thursday.
And it is also another big day of my life
because it's time from.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
WOW saying anniversary.

Speaker 6 (02:08):
Yes, happy anniversary, Chris. It was thirty years ago today exactly,
not last week, not tomorrow, thirty years ago that I
had my first radio show and I had a radio show,
Wow on the radio a WDFN and Detroit AM eleven

(02:29):
thirty the Fan and Mike Ston thirty years ago today.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
What did you bring it up yesterday? For there?

Speaker 5 (02:36):
I was saying, no, that the anniversary was Thursday. I
didn't beget would say that? Didn't yesterdy? I said it
was coming up. But anyway, happy thirtieth anniversary to WDFN.

Speaker 6 (02:49):
That's no longer on the air, no longer around. And
I can't believe thirty years went by that fast.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
That's all all right, Well, congratulations, like I mean, okay.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Thirty years ago, I was, uh.

Speaker 5 (03:05):
Internship were you doing ago?

Speaker 2 (03:07):
It was thirty years ago, ninety nineteen ninety four.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
At this what is it July nineteen ninety four, I
was covering. I was working at the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Okay,
covering in the summer. I was probably covering recreational sports
something like that in the Akron Area Bureau. And then

(03:32):
in December of ninety four, I left the plane Dealer,
went to the Akronbeacon Journal and uh six months well yeah,
about six months later they promoted me to.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
The Cavs beat. And there you go, and you never
looked back, never looked back, so no doubt. All right, Well,
we got the odd couple crew in full effect.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Super producer Rob g is in the house on of
the ones and twoes. DJ Alex tight shirt here as
a surprise and a pleasant one at that. On the updates,
our man Steve de Sager and on the social media,
Elijah Sabunya is on a vacation, so our man Sagar
Patel is holding it down.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
All right, Rob, I told you last night.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
During our show that I was excited to see Team
USA play against Canada. I really was intrigued to see how,
you know, we handled them. I thought a loss was
a possibility, and I will say this, I left that game,
United States won eighty six to seventy two.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
I left that game feeling like, we got this. We
got this.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
Now it's a one and done, so obviously it's more
March Madness style than the NBA playoffs, and a lot
of times anything can happen in a one game series
or one game I should say, but we got this.
We should be fine. I think Canada is probably the
second best team in the world, and in a game

(05:06):
in which we didn't play well offensively, we handled them
and obviously won by double figure.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
So Team USA should be just fine.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
And a micro cosm of this, Rob Anthony Davis, this
should please the Lakers fans. Like Rob g Anthony Davis
was fantastic. The second unit was better than the first.
The starters Robert Lebron, Steph Drew Holliday, Mbid.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
And Devin Booker, and they went down eleven to one.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
And the second team with the young boys Anthony Edwards,
Tyres Halliburton, Jason Tatum looked really good. Bam out of
by you, and of course Anthony Davis. They came in,
turned the game around and took control for America and
Anthony Davis Robbie eleven rebounds, which was a team high

(06:02):
ten points, four blocked shots, and then you know he
was great. And obviously Anthony Edwards was great too. I
think he had a team high thirteen points. But Joe
l Embi, Rob, It's funny because we talked yesterday about
Kawhi and how he really probably never should have even
been on the team, and now he isn't and Derek

(06:26):
White will be joining him.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
I'm wondering why Joel Embi.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
With all due respect to him, because he's a fantastic player,
why is he really on the team because he looked
he didn't look fully healthy yesterday.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
Rob.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
He fouled out in twelve minutes of action.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Twelve minutes, he filed out five fouls and twelve minutes,
and he didn't look healthy. He looked like he was laboring,
and all the I'm and Terry after the game was
that he is laboring. He's still coming back from that injury.
You know he's not one hundred percent, then why you're playing.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
You need to get healthy for the sixer season.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
I don't know if Joel saw they just spend a
lot of money on Paul George and others, and I
don't know that this is gonna help him be healthy.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
But even if he stays.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
On the team, which I'm sure I imagine he will,
based off last night, Anthony Edwards should be the starting
big man. Now that's one game I'm not gonna jump to,
you know, go crazy. I'm not mad if they keep
starting in bead. But Anthony Davis was way better, more athletic,
more active.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
On both ends of the floor. I don't need I mean,
we got.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Four jump shooters on the floor at all times. I
don't need Joel Embiid out there as well floating around
on the perimeter. Would love to see him go down low,
but you know that ain't really his style. So those
are some of my takeaways.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Robert.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
I think we got this. I think we're in great shape.
I think we're gonna.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Win the goal.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
And Anthony Davis was a play terrifically last night, much
better than Joe LMB.

Speaker 6 (08:22):
That's a lot off of Yeah, one game, so it's
all done. It's a gold medal, everybody.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Yeah we'll win. Okay, uh and the joint and the
wen't even play well. But our defense was stout.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
I will say that Team USA's defense was stout from
the beginning.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
They just couldn't hit any shots early on, But so
have they lost the game?

Speaker 5 (08:43):
Would you think that they had no shot at winning
goal or no?

Speaker 4 (08:45):
No, I never would say that. I would say, Oh,
like I said, it's gonna.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Be tough, I'm not.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
I mean you, I don't know what you're gonna call
this prison of the moment if you want to use
that term.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Whatever.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
We know we have the best team. It's just a
matter of will they play together. And last night, well
there's a lot of Durant wasn't healthy, and if they dudes,
of course, if a certain number of guys get hurt,
yeah we're in trouble. But Durant wasn't healthy. MB did

(09:17):
nothing but foul out in twelve minutes. Kawhi wasn't there
and won't be, and neither was his replacement. And Lebron
and you know staff, they weren't didn't shoot it all
that well, I mean stepping it up four for seven,
but you know, started slowly, and we still beat the
team that's supposed to be the toughest competition by double

(09:41):
digits because the defense was great. So I thought it
was a great opening. I know they're not even close
to as good as they will be. They only have
four practices, so yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
They should be good.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (09:55):
And Joel Embiid, I'm gonna just chalk it up as
just having a bad night at the office. I'm not
ready to say that he shouldn't be this or shouldn't
be that. I mean, he's one of the best players
in the league, obviously a former MVP, and maybe just
wasn't himself. It happens, and I think that they'll probably

(10:16):
stick with him, you know what I mean, until they say.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
All the reports and all the talk has been he's
he's Steph and Lebron are automatic starters. I get Stephan
Lebron and you're right, MB it is phenomenal. My my
main thing is is where is he at health wise?
And if he's not one hundred percent, why is he
playing well?

Speaker 5 (10:39):
I mean, it's a good question.

Speaker 6 (10:41):
And we already talked about all those guys anyway, even
prior to all this, just the whole notional idea that
why are guys coming off of injuries and stuff? Why
are they even And I get it to represent your country,
Chris and win a gold medal and whatnot, but I
do think your health should be first. And and you
being healthy, healthy for your team should.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Be fright right. I do believe that's who's paying your bills.

Speaker 6 (11:07):
I do, And I don't understand why, you know, we
pooh pooh that 't think it's not a big deal.
I just there's a lot of people who are banking
on you and your success and you being available, and
that should count for something.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Rob KD we haven't even talked about. He's got a
calf strain. He hasn't played yet now Kd's and he's
had his issues with injuries too.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
We all know that.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
I don't feel about him like I feel like MB's
perennially banged up. Kawhi obviously is just on a whole
other level. So I don't feel like the same about
KD as I do them. But again, it's a calf strain.
KD has been how many gold medals Rob get does?

Speaker 2 (11:57):
KD have? Probably two.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
He's the leading all time score for Team USA, so
he's got at least two, if not more three, he's
got three.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
I'm not trying to take him off the team. I
will do what you want.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
But again, if if you've got a calf strain, is
it worth going out there? And playing as you said, Rob,
what about the Phoenix Sons?

Speaker 6 (12:26):
You would you would think so, and at this point
in his career and what the you know, the injuries
he has had, you would just think, Man, do I
really need to do this? I need to stay as
healthy as I can. Let me get through my last
few years of playing in the NBA. Let's see if
we could do something with the Phoenix signs like that
should be your priority, especially since he's already won.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
Right, he's already got.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
He's got three, he's got the great gold right Like,
it's a tad bit baffling.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Yeah, I mean really, you know what I mean.

Speaker 6 (12:55):
If you've done it, you've experienced it, you've won gold medals.
It's different for the guys who have never done it
and it's their first chance and they've not I get that.

Speaker 5 (13:05):
But guys who have already won. What's what are you
repeating about?

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Yes, it's a bit it's a bit odd, all right?

Speaker 4 (13:11):
A seven seven ninety nine on Fox You're turned away
and we got the first glimpse of Team USA in action.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
I thought it was a great sign.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
Not that they played an awesome game, but they played
their B minus game and one going away against what
we think is the second best team in the world.

Speaker 8 (13:33):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
And then Joel Embiid's injuries, Anthony Davis's brilliance Your Thoughts

Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
Team USA, first bit of action. Last night they beat
Canada by fourteen.

Speaker 6 (14:53):
Your thoughts, All right, let's kick it off with Mark
and Sacramento.

Speaker 5 (14:58):
You're in the Odd Couple. Fox Radio. What's up?

Speaker 7 (15:01):
Mark?

Speaker 9 (15:02):
What's going on? Gentlemen? Going on to day man? How
are you doing good? It was about what I thought
came out sloppy. You know, he needed to get some
some rhythm. Uh. But once they got into a groove,
you can see the uh, the deepness of the bench right,

(15:22):
the talent that it's just it's going to overwhelm some
of these teams. But I will say this, Chris, and
this happens every year he's international, every time he's international competition.
It's not the talent. You have to adjust to the
referee because it's they call it differently. Keep these games
close there, forty minute games now forty forty eight minute games,
so you can't be falling behind and trying to come back.

(15:43):
You may not have the time to come back, and
it's just it's just different. So we we are the favorite,
but every time the international games come something about this
officiating keep these games close, So you have to keep
that in mind. It's a little bit different. And that's
the style I want to say too. The best player
I mean for the United States in my opinion, and

(16:04):
I watched HU since last summer. Me and Rob talked
about this last summer. The international game pits Anthony Edwards.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Well he was. He was by far the best player
last year on the field.

Speaker 9 (16:16):
It's the international game. And I think Steve Kirk saw
that last year in the Anthony that was one of
the best player in the fief. He knows this type
of styling game. It's Anthony, it was.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
He's pretty good.

Speaker 9 (16:27):
In NBA basketball too, just her just to the international
game quicker than so many other players. I know this
last year he just did.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
I think what it is too though, I think one,
I mean, the dude is incredible. He's he's a great player,
number one.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
But when you put him on.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
That team, like with that team last night, and he's
so explosive and you can't just focus on him because
there are obviously, so many other great players out there,
and a lot of the guys, guys are going to
just shoot jumpers because they're trying to move the ball
a lot. He can go to the whole Jason Tatum

(17:08):
used to all last night going to the basket.

Speaker 9 (17:11):
You know.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
Lebron obviously can and did a couple of times. But
I just think that with so much talent on the
floor for his side, I mean, Anthony Everage is gonna
be able to do whatever he wants. He was great,
he was he was fantastic, and you're right, maybe this
will be I guess maybe part two if it's coming
out party.

Speaker 6 (17:30):
Tony in DC, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Tony?

Speaker 10 (17:34):
What's up? Fellows? So you guys having a great summer,
having spoke to you in a while, I know, maintaining, maintaining.
I like the team. I just have one criticism and
that's of Grant Hill, because you know, I'm glad Kawhi
left because of those injury history and I worry about
Embi Grant Hill. The old people should know how hard

(17:56):
it is to come back from injuries, and these guys,
I think in being he's thirty and Kawhi is like
thirty three thirty four, So as you get older, you're
not gonna heal faster. And that's my only criticism of
him putting that team together. Maybe he could have got
Brown or Holme, Grin or Bank Carroll down to Orlando,
but I think they have enough leadership with Steph.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
They got plenty of veteran leaders.

Speaker 10 (18:21):
Yeah, so that's my only criticism. But I think we
should win the goal as long as we come out
and attack mode. And like my man before me said,
Mark and Sacramento, we gotta realize he's a forty minute games.
We gotta come out and pose all well early, that's all.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
Well, it's an interesting point you made about Grant Hill
because obviously we all know about his injuries struggles in
the NBA, which he still ended up being a Hall
of Famer because of his overall basketball contributions. But you know, Rob,
he was. I mean, Grant Hill was phenomenal his first
seven years in the league.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
You saw him in Detroit. Is incredible and that was
cut short, but yeah, that's in it.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
I hadn't thought about that, Rob, but you're right, Grant
would be a guy that would be like, look, Joe
l MB, his biggest most important thing for him is
the NBA, and maybe we need to just save him
from himself.

Speaker 6 (19:18):
Maybe Andre in Massachusetts, you're on the couple of Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
What's up, Dry, How you doing?

Speaker 11 (19:25):
Thanks for taking my call. I'm gonna concur with the
previous callers in terms of the distinctions with the international
game that's going to factor in. To add on to this,
it's gonna be a tough road to the gold medal
because the game has become more international. We see that
in the NBA. The best players in the NBA are
a lot of what's coming from the international team. So

(19:47):
you're gonna be playing facing these guys to get to
that gold medal, and it needs as much as not
more for these international players, I feel like playing for
their home country, trying to not be Team US. Say
off that top spot to these you know they take it.
You know, we, Jerry Colangelo and Coach k and now
Grant Hell have built up your team USA basketball to

(20:10):
the point where it is now. I think we did
some work to be done, but I just feel like
these international players. When you see Luca playing for Slovenia,
when you see young.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
They didn't even make it Slovenia, they ain't even making
their Olympics, but.

Speaker 9 (20:22):
Made it with right.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
But but that that's the here's the thing, and I
hear you because we talk about it all the time.
How the best players in the league now are internationals,
but they're not playing on.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
The same team.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
And we have the most talent by far. It's just
will we play together and will we adjust to the game,
and if we do that, we should win, you know,
because Joannis Greece has Giannis who else? I mean last
night they had Shay Gilders, Alexander Jamal Murray and you
know a bunch of NBA players but role players Lou Dort,

(20:57):
Dwight Powell, you know, good role player. But if we
play together and certain guys are willing to accept the role,
we should be all right.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
Yo, Kitchen is on Serbia. Who else?

Speaker 9 (21:10):
You know?

Speaker 4 (21:10):
So we got the most talent by a mile, So
we just got to play together and we should be
all right.

Speaker 3 (21:16):

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Rob g So Jalen Brown.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
You know, Grant Hill addressed why he did not make
the team and instead his teammate Derek White, who's not
a star, not as good as Jalen Brown. He was
chosen and essentially they played the same position. But Grant
talked about wanting a player who you.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Know, they're building the team.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
It's not just getting the best names and how they
like that. Derek White not only you know, is a
he's a great defender and shooter, but he the role
he plays for Boston is the role he'll play for
Team USA. So it's not like you have to ask

(22:12):
a star to hey, can you just be a role
player on this team. That's what Derek White does. That's
what Derek White is, and so it'll be second nature
for him to fit in where get in where he
can fit in and play the role. But Jalen Brown
and we we said it, Rob rightly, upset, Rob g

(22:32):
give us kind of the latest.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
He's he's blaming Nike.

Speaker 12 (22:35):
Yeah, he's not buying what grat Hill is selling.

Speaker 5 (22:38):
Like he's doubled down on it.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Grant even saying I wore Feliz most of my career.

Speaker 4 (22:42):
He kind of jokingly was saying it's not about Nike,
but Jalen's not buying it.

Speaker 12 (22:47):
So you'll recall yesterday he did the the monocle emoji,
you know, and then he did the at Nike, this
is what we're doing.

Speaker 5 (22:54):
Well.

Speaker 12 (22:54):
On Thursday, he doubled down on it with another tweet saying,
I'm not afraid of you or your resources, a direct
shot at Nike, saying that Nike is the reason why
he's not on Team USA, regardless of what grat Hill says.
And actually the Athletic did a deep dive on this
exact situation months ago because, according to them, Brown has

(23:19):
had a rocky relationship with Nike for years now. You know,
we talked about the Kyrie Irving tweet that he put
out where he said he questioned their ethics, he had
an Adidas deal that expired three years ago, and he's
so anti conglomerate according to this report that he's never
reared with another shoe company, and when he wears Nikes

(23:40):
in games, he'll actually cover up the swoosh. That's how
much he dislikes what they got going on over there.
So if you believe Jalen Brown, this has nothing to
do with fit or chemistry or skill set. It has
to do with him being anti establishment when it comes
to the swoosh.

Speaker 4 (23:57):
Well, I'll say this, Rob, I'm not automatically dismissing what
Jalen Brown is saying because we know business politics. It's
always lingering in the background somewhere. And Nike is a

(24:17):
sponsor for Team USA. Most of the players on the team,
I think all but three are Nike guys, and the
last thing they want is for Jalen Brown to be
up on the podium with a world on the world
stage and to say something about Nike. So I'm not

(24:39):
dismissing that that could have been a factor, or maybe
even the factor. I don't know, but I'm certainly not
just throwing it out as an impossibility.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
Yeah, I'm with you.

Speaker 6 (24:52):
We know that these things are all somewhat connected, so
it's not a shocker. And they do know. They remember
what people do and what people say and all kinds
of stuff, and they know whether you're on board or not.
And Jalen is not on board, which is fine, and
that's what you just have to deal with or live with,

(25:13):
Chris in some of these situations. But the idea that
Derek White is replacing Kawhi Leonard. Just I understand all
the role players that we need him to do to
he should have been on a team. Then why wouldn't
he on a team? Come on, come on, stop, you
can't have it both ways, or somebody of that ilk Chris,

(25:36):
who was just better than him, you know, like somebody
who does the same stuff that was better than him.
If Kawhi Lennard was healthy, he'd still be there, but.

Speaker 5 (25:45):
He wouldn't be and he wouldn't be a role player,
and he wouldn't be doing the stuff that you need
guys like that to do.

Speaker 6 (25:53):
That's the problem. And Chris the only other non Nike
athletes on this team. Joe embead sketchers, I think, is
who he's with. So he likes comfortable shoes that don't
cost a lot of money.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Steph Curry, he does have those lower limbs.

Speaker 6 (26:09):
So he needs right like you know, he's like to
help his under armor.

Speaker 5 (26:15):
Steph Curry.

Speaker 6 (26:17):
People make fun of Steph Curry and his shoes, but
the nurses in the hospitals, a lot of them wear
his sneakers because they everybody said.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
That because of the one the first was it the first?

Speaker 4 (26:29):
Because the first early ones that came out, Chris Hunts
ones were white. His first shoe was white first, Yes,
and fluffy. They look like nurse's shoes.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
I think those were after I think anyway.

Speaker 5 (26:42):
But you know what I mean. But you know that
they were a pair that people were like, those are
nurses shoes? Uh?

Speaker 6 (26:47):
And then Anthony Edwards christ was with right. So those
are the only three nine Nike guys on the team.
Everybody else is Nike.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
I would say this, and Jalen, Look, he has a
problem with conglomerates, as Rob G said, So he doesn't
have a shoe deal with anybody, but he's wearing the shoes.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
And I get it.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
You have to play in something, but where if you're
gonna play an Adidas, you might as well get get
some of the money from them, I say. But I
would also say this, Rob, don't wear Nikes. Why why
if you're that upset with Nike, why are you wearing

(27:30):
their sneaker?

Speaker 6 (27:32):
Probably for comfort, like you get you used to wearing
something Christmas.

Speaker 4 (27:36):
But he's not wearing them all the time. He's wearing
Adida sometimes. You know, like I just if you you
you are covering up the logo that's probably bringing more.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Attention to them.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
Uh And and someone could say, I guess it could
be viewed as negative. You're covering up the logo, but
nobody's stopping buying Nikes because of that. So I would say,
if you don't like Nike to the point where you
have to cover up the logo, now maybe you don't
like Adidas either, but you're not to the point where

(28:09):
you're covering up the three stripes. So just wear Adidas
or under armor or something else that you're not as
upset about. But I'm saying, if you're that ticked off
by Nike, don't wear the shoe.

Speaker 6 (28:23):
That would make sense if you really are that bothered
by it. But maybe he really isn't. Now he's just
of course upset or frustrated because he's not on a
team and believes that they're behind it.

Speaker 5 (28:35):
So that's a little bit more. And I hear you.

Speaker 6 (28:38):
I know, if somebody did something maybe that I didn't like,
or had something, I definitely wouldn't entertain it, or wouldn't
go back to their restaurant, or wouldn't, you know what
I mean, patronize anything. I mean, you know, if you
raise the money on a diet coke on me, I
might not ever come back into your restaurant.

Speaker 5 (28:54):
I'm just saying.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
I think you've done that.

Speaker 6 (28:58):
But you know what I'm saying, right, could easily say, well,
it's convenient, right, and and it's closed and I want
to found drink and no, but I decided that I
wasn't gonna do it.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
So I'll hear you.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Yeah, it's unfortunate.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
I I don't think it will cause a problem with
the Celtics. I think he understands, you know, it's it's
Derek White, is not his fault. I don't want to,
you know, say it like it's just a negative. Obviously
it's a great thing for Derek White. So I wouldn't
think that Jalen Brown would allow us to mess up

(29:34):
their locker room.

Speaker 9 (29:35):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
They have three Celtics on the team, Team USA and
Jalen Brown. Yeah, he shouldn't hold against Derek. Derek didn't
pick itself with the team. That's not fair, right. And
I'll say this too because somebody I don't know if
it was maybe it was Rob g saying it yesterday
how or maybe it was a caller I don't are

(29:59):
not or a guest, but somebody brought up how you
know it was Eddie House actually, how he's been snubbed?
You know, didn't make all NBA. There are a couple
that was once now of course this team USA, and
there was one other snub.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
I couldn't think about what it was.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
But remember he was voted Eastern Conference Finals MVP and
robbed in a situation which I'm not I don't think
it was you know that Jason Tatum.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Got jobbed or got robbed.

Speaker 4 (30:36):
But I do think Jason Tatum should have been the
finals MVP. I think it was close, and I think
you know the numbers. I mean he led them in points, rebounded,
and assists, so I think he is the only one
who had two thirty point games. So I think, even
though he certainly wasn't didn't play an A plus series

(30:58):
or even maybe an A series, I thought he should
have been the finals MVP.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
You thought that as well.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
Well. He let in every category.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
That's hard to not get it when you.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
And the other thing too.

Speaker 6 (31:10):
And and I don't remember off the top of my
head was it's six for twenty. Jalen Play had a
terrible shooting night in.

Speaker 4 (31:16):
The close out game, right right, right right, I don't
know exactly saying, well, the first three games were the
most important.

Speaker 5 (31:23):
Yeah, but the.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Close out is a close out. It's tough, but it's
tough to close.

Speaker 5 (31:27):
I just not when you shoot that poorly, you know what,
Like it was a really six for twenty two. Well
there's something like that. It was. It was, it was
pretty bad.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
And so I just you know, he didn't get you know,
snug came the finals MVP, maybe he got you know,
even you know, it was close.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
I mean it was very close. I think it was
five to four, so it was close.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
But you know, I just don't want it to paint like, oh,
everybody hates Jalen when he did, you know, just get
too great awards. But it's unfortunate because we do think
he should be on the team. All right, It's the
Odd Couple Chris and Rob. He been lockcheckl Cities next.

(32:43):
and that, of course is the theme for Fat Albert.

Speaker 5 (32:47):
Ron Evan High show call fat Albert anymore.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Maybe you got fat Joe. I guess if they named him.
Let me named.

Speaker 5 (32:55):
Himself on a television show. Now.

Speaker 4 (32:59):
I had a friend and growing up when I was
in Indianapolis who looked.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Like Fat Albert, was big, just like Fat Albert. Name
was Jonathan what they call him Jonathan?

Speaker 5 (33:13):
Okay, they didn't call it fat Albert.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
He was athletic, but people walk by him was huge.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
Now, I mean he just looked like him, like dark skinned,
you know, big dude. And when we played football, like
like you know, killed the man we call you know,
how you throw up the ball and whoever catches they
gotta run. Everybody try to tackle him. He would be
dragging us, man. I mean, because he was a good athlete,
but he was humongous. I don't know if he ended

(33:41):
up playing you know, college or anything, but.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
But yeah, so it's time for Shekel City.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
Welcome to Shekel City, the whole base for Rob Parker's
daily Dix against the spread.

Speaker 5 (34:03):
All right, here we go a little Shekel City.

Speaker 6 (34:08):
Best bet Houston taking on Miami minus one and a
half runs. I'm gonna go with Houston. Best bet there
the Astros. Then we got Seattle minus one and a
half runs. They were in Anaheim to take on the
Los Angeles Angels, and the Atlanta Braves minus one and
a half runs. They're taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks out

(34:30):
in the desert. Wow. So Atlanta minus one and a half,
Seattle minus one and a half, and the Astros minus
one and a half at home. And remember, I'm not
telling you who to bet on. I'm telling you who
I better. I ain't paining that, Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
All right, well, Rob, last night during the game it
was it was entertaining for a lot of reasons, but
one of them was Dylan Brooks. And Dylan Brooks will
was his usual self.

Speaker 5 (35:03):
Rob That's who he is.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
Rob G kind of.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Summarized it because he was out there, you know, doing
this thing.

Speaker 12 (35:10):
Well, you guys, remember the last time Dylan Brooks had
a moment in the NBA. It was a couple of
years ago in the playoffs when he was talking about
Lebron James, I poked bears right, well, Team USA is
the biggest bear on the block when it comes to
the Olympics, and he was poking the crap out of
him yesterday. So during the game, if you're on Twitter,
there was a couple of plays that kind of got
some run because at least twice he stuck his foot

(35:31):
out while getting beat on a dribble drive, once by
Steph Curry, once by Lebron James. One of them Lebron
actually fell and got foul on it. And then after
the game, after they lost, you know, he didn't really
take a lot of questions. And as he's leaving, Devin
Booker's conducting his postgame presser, and rather than walk around
the scrum, Dylan Brooks walked right in between the camera

(35:52):
shot and where Devin Booker is asking questions. So he's
in the middle of the camera frame for about a second,
walking right through it. Dylan Brooks is going from the
most hated man in the NBA to now the most
hated man of the Olympic Games.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
Yeah, and Rod, look.

Speaker 5 (36:07):
It's just rude. It's just rude.

Speaker 4 (36:11):
Go ahead, no, just oh, they're walking across right right,
like you know what's going on, Chris, he did it.

Speaker 5 (36:16):
That's just rude.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
He pokes bears, as he said, and right now, there's
no bigger bear in this tournament in Team USA, so
he's poking bears. But what I don't like. I gotta
say this to start. Don't be tripping people, right like,
I don't don't. I don't like that sticking your foot out,
tripping somebody, because that's when guys can get.

Speaker 3 (36:40):
Hurt, a hard foul.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
I'm fine with if it's in a it's a basket, right,
and you may put a little something on it to
let him know you're there, okay, But tripping is stuff.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Like that, and I don't like that.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
That said, Rob, I think sports need guys like Dylan
Brook No bet the villain, Patrick Beverley, Right, yeah, villains.
No one's again Phil Lambier. You remember that with the Pistons. Yeah,
I mean so I'm fine with again, don't you don't
have to be dirty about it.

Speaker 6 (37:15):
The difference between being hard and dirty. You got the
right word being you know, a little tough, not giving
people you better earn it Patrick Beverly when he picked
up Lonzo ball from the inbounds, you know what I mean,
and was being a little rough on the rookie first
drop taking take taking the first time bringing the ball up.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
Chris, I like that that. I like, yeah, yeah, I agree.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
Talking a little trash, you know, letting them know you're there,
you know, talking to guys that are better than you,
but not giving them any you know, not letting them
think you know, they're better than you. All of that,
I don't have a problem with him poking Lebron.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Now he ended up paying the price for it.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
But you know, I think guys like this are necessary
in sports.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
They make things more fun. We talk about it all
the time.

Speaker 4 (38:04):
Rob stories, right, storylines, and these guys bring more storylines.
And so I'm all good with it. I'm sure Brooks
will continue to do this, you know, and we'll see.
I mean, and I've talked to I said earlier. I
think that was a great sign in Team USA, a role.

(38:25):
But they obviously got to go out there and get
it done.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
So all right, it's the odd couple.

Speaker 4 (38:29):
We got two hours left on this TV theme song Thursday,
Keep it Locked.
