Speaker 2 (00:28):
Welcome in our number two of a funky Flashback Friday.

up in about twenty eight minutes. Antonio Daniels, NBA Champ
Serious XM NBA radio host and New Orleans Pelicans color
analysts will dive into some NBA topics with you there.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
So that's coming up.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Looking around Major League Baseball, Dodgers are still trailing the Tigers.
The Yankees are beating the O's and that's a good
matchup there, Oh's and Yankees. O's going to this series
up to games in the Al East. The HBCU Swingman
Classic is on MLB Network. That's happening today, that game

(01:37):
is about to kick off. So a lot of stuff
going on. But let's talk how about the Tigers seven
and three in their last ten. Yeah, and they were
remember they wanted to verge. They had lost like twelve
out of sixteen. You remember that.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Of course, I'm doing it every day, Yeah, every day.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
It was am I right, it looked like I was.
I remember thinking, is aj hinch Aw they going to
you know what I mean? Give them the ziggy because
it ain't gotten bad.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
All it took for me was to go on Sports
Rap Radio say I'm done with this team for that
was seven and three runs.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
That's usually what happens the announcers jinks.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
But all right, let's talk about Jalen Brown from the
Boston Celtics, who of course did not get the nod
when Kawhi Leonard bowed out of the team USA Basketball
and Jalen Brunson is convinced Jalen Brown.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
But Jalen Brown's on show today.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Jalen Brown is convinced that Nike has something to do
with it, and so we doubled down today you got something.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, So he.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Tweets at Nike, is this what we're doing, insinuating that
Nike is in control of Team USA. Then he doubled
down with you know, the monocle emoji, which I don't
speak fluent emoji, but apparently that is the one when
you're searching for a reason or an answer. And then
cam Newton asked him yesterday at the SPS why he

(02:59):
wasn't with Team USA, and he said, you know, I
don't have any comment on that. I'm with my beautiful date.
He was with the Gondrews ex sister who played just
got Waived from the Sky not too long ago from
the WNBA, who is a gorgeous woman.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
So that was it. He's doing well for himself, I'd say.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yes, in the woman department. But I think he's a
little the clump that he's not on the Olympic time.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
I mean, he is upset, but I mean, you know,
you could be upset all you want about it, but
to me, you know, they made a change in the
way that they are valuing the.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Roster in Team USA.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
It's not the same as it used to be in
the past, where you go and you're you get invited
to the tryout, and then out of that tryout, the
best twelve players make it.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
It's people.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
They give precedent and give priority to people who have
participated in Team USA in the in the past few years,
right at the different World Cups, and you know, summer
by summer, these teams are playing internationally. And that's why,
in my opinion, Derek White got the now because Jalen
Brown hasn't been on Team USA since twenty nineteen, while
while invited to the pool and all other stuff, he

(04:01):
didn't participate since twenty nineteen.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah, I disagree. I'm with Jalen Brown.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
I think that this has a lot to do with
his criticism of Nike, and Nike runs this whether people
want to believe it or not. I think all but
four players are Nike representatives. The other four do not
wear Nike, and we get it, and I think that
there's something to it because he's replaced. He would be
replacing Kawhi Leonard, who he could easily replace and be

(04:29):
that kind of player. If there was a player like
Derek White who does all the stuff that they're talking about,
they want on the team, and that was the guy
that went down, then Derek Wright White would make total
sense as a replacement in this case. Jalen Brown just
won the NBA Championship with the Celtics, just won the

(04:50):
finals MVP, and he doesn't have a right to turn
it down or be offered it. That's where I have
an issue, Like, there's a lot of politics, Martin, And
you got to admit this, whether whether or not, I
don't have any evidence in front of me, but will
you agree that politics does play a role in sports
and a lot on a lot of levels.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
And it's not politics in the traditional sense, but the
politics of dealing with people.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
That's what when we talk about the politics, not political parties.
And I think some of his criticism of Nike and
the stuff that they've done, and the tweets and stuff
that he's set put out and whatnot against Nike, I
do believe that, uh, it's not the kind of guy
that maybe they want to have UH out there and

(05:40):
put on that platform as a guy. And Chris even
talked about this the other day. He's always surprised that
he covers up the Nike swoosh Martin right on his sneakers,
but he does still wear them. And I don't know
if that's just comfort or feeling comfortable in them, you
know what I mean, or something like that, where it's
just not another sneaker that he can wear. But but

(06:00):
if I'm Nike, I'm definitely not trying to enhance anybody
who is covering.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Up the Nike swish. I mean, but there are several
non Nike.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
There's only set there's out of the twelve players on
the team, bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Halliburton,
Lebron James, and Tatum are Nike athletes, so over half
of the team, but just by one. Right, So there's
six other athletes on the team that aren't Nikes. Two
of them are starters, and Embiid. Embiid his under armer,
steps Onder Armor, Anthony Edwards's Adidas. He just signed a

(06:34):
massive Adidas deal to be the face of that basketball operation.
So I think the Nike angle, well, I mean, it's
a little bit overblown in my opinion. I think the
roster was flawed in the first place. I don't know
what Kawhi was ever doing there? And when I think
when you watched the.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
If Kawhi was healthy, then that roster would have still
he would have been on that roster and they still
would have a chance to win.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Whether whether it's h or not.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Well, let's be clear, so is not going to be
the reason why they would or loose.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
But you're right with that. Let's be clear. We asked
you that you.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Guys, they could have just sent Kawhi home and brought
nobody back and they're still gonnakay. So what's the difference
between Derek White on that team and and and rewarding
Jalen Brown who is the Finals MVP and just won
a championship. What is the difference? The difference is Derek
White played for Team USA in the last three years.
That's the difference. That could be the reason why you
don't have to bring him. You could Jalen Jaylen's why

(07:26):
because he played for Jalen Brown just elevated everything about
him by winning a Finals MVP. Those are the players
you usually want to reward and celebrate. The reason Kawhi
was on it is because Kawhi had never played for
Team USA and they wanted to give Kawhi that opportunity.
That's all I'm saying. Derek White is not going to

(07:46):
be the reason for anything. So what is the difference
whether you're bringing Brown neither Brown?

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Why?

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Of course, if you're Nike, a guy who's covering up
your swash, that's the guy you want to bring in. Nah,
I don't think so. I think you're downplaying the importance
and the cloud that Nike has. I think Nike has
way more clout than under Armour and Adidas and those
those companies.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Well, they didn't use none of that cloud to keep
those guys off the team.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
They can't keep everybody off, now, let's be realistic.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
So they just you know, Taylor Brown, you're the one. No,
he's the one tweeting and ripping on Nike. Give me
the other quotes from Steph ripping on Nike?

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Do you have them? No? They don't have them. Yeah,
they don't. That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
I mean, none of the other guys are ripping on Nike.
You But I don't think that l Brown is not
on the US team.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
I don't. I don't think that. I think that if
Jalen Brown.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
So what is the reason if Derek White doesn't matter
if they're gonna win or lose.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
I'm asking you, Martin, what you're saying doesn't.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Make sense because your argument is he just won the
finals MVP.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
You know what the reward for that is the ring.
He's one of these.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Comments finals ring. That's the reward for that. That's the
reward for that, the finals MVP. It's the same argument
as to why Caitlyn Clark and Angel Rees are on
the women's team because they weren't practicing with the women's team,
they didn't partend with the women's team in past summers.
It's you know, I get it. You know, it fits
a little tin hat theory to be like.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
When was Kawhi?

Speaker 2 (09:07):
This is Kawhi's first go first so so so what's
the difference.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
I don't even know why. The first part, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
I wouldn't have brought him because they were trying to
celebrate Kawhi for what a great player he's been in
the NBA.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
He won two finals MVPs and two championship.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
I think that's a dumb reason to build an Olympic team.
All right, how if somebody good, somebody is in the NBA.
But Heady ordered for that. But he was already awards
for how good you are in the NBA. They called championships.
That's how the reward for how good you are in
the NBA. Derek White makes no difference. This is what
they call a slight. It was a slight of Jalen Brown.

(09:46):
As I said the other day, he was pimp slapped
by the team USA. That that's what it is. There's
no reason this guy shouldn't be on the team. One
of the best way. He makes seventy million dollars, he
makes seventy seven zero.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
He's considered one of the best players in the league.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
And they got a spot open because Kawhi can't make it.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Let's go get.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
A reserve Derek White.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Let's go put him on derrikt in a reserve since
since basically since he got drafted. But that's neither here
nor there. Derek White's a better fit for this team.
Derek White's not gonna play a ton of minutes when
things get down to it. But if he did, the
only guard out there that's a really great defender besides
Anthony Edwards, I mean Drew Holliday in the starting lineup,
and Anthony Edwards.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Are the two can Jalen Brown defend? Are the They
are the two guard defenders.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
When you look at these teams, Who's gonna stay in
front of Jamal Murray?

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Would you like Jalen Brown to do that or Derek
White to do that?

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Because Derek White was the guy who was staying in
front of Kyrie Irving.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Is Derek White going to be the reason you win?
Jalen Brown wasn't gonna be the reason they want. That's
the case.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
So you didn't celebrate the nothing to do with anything
as it does you should give you to celebrate the
player that's had a higher standing in the league. That's
a ain't got reward. He got rewards for that, and
he got two on the right Celtics on there right
on the team. How many Celtics are there? They are
three now and and and and and and Jalen Brown

(11:13):
isn't one of them.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
That's that's a slap in the face.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
Look, he can feel like it's a slap in the
face on the horns, but it's a logical reasoning.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
It's it's fun to be like, oh, it's all Nankees
for because he does covers have mis Swooster. He's got
this thing, this thing that thought, Well, you.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Don't think that factors in at all.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
I'm just asking you if you own the business, If
you own the business and the guy that you have
a chance to either put on the team or not
put on the team is ripping your company, don't tell
me that that wouldn't factor in whether or not you
would have that guy on the team.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
With us A. That's not but that's what you're saying. No,
I'm mad.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
If he was, you had cry to see and Jalen
Brown was cracking, was trashing the Houston Rockets for the
those time.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
I don't imagine that the Houston Rockets are going try
to sign them up.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
But you have if you had clout in the selection, Okay,
and don't act like these things don't happen because Isaiah
Thomas didn't make the Dream Team.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
He didn't make the Dream Team because Jordan didn't want
him on the.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Kayut So he had Claudia, he had Cloud, But what's
that got to do with nik He has that kind
of clout with Team USA. Most people believe that.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
So Team USA would have said, you know what, if
you put Jaylen Brown on this roster were pulling our
athletes back.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
All right, coold, but that's not it.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
They wouldn't have put him on because they didn't want
to look at the guy who has covered up their
swoosh and has ripped their company.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
When you watch that scrimmage, that team needs another defensive guard.
They would have needed another defensive guard if Kawhi Leonard
was on the roster and was healthy and was one
hundred percent, they still would if he was.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Healthy, they wouldn't even think about no Derek White.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
They said, oh, we need to swap out Kawhi even
though he's healthy for Derek White because we need that.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Are you kidding me? Stop?

Speaker 2 (12:56):
That's not what that what went on here? They decided
to to slight Jalen Brown, and he has a right
to be.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
He could be upside if he wants. But it's very logical.
It's a very very logical explanation as to why it happened.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
All right, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox is
the telephone number eight seven seven nine nine six sixty
three sixty nine?

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Where are you, Jalen Brown? Is he out of bounds and.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Thinking that Nike has done this deliberately? Is he in bounds.
Martin thinks he's out of bounds. I think he's spot
on on this.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
I think if he wanted to play in the Olympic team,
he should have played in the World Cup the year before.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
And this is why he's not on the team. He
deserves to be on the team.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
We want to hear from you eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox It is The Odd Couple, Rob Parker

a job seekers and jobs seekers. I should say, never
pay a fee at Express, So check out expresspros dot
com to find your location. That's Expresspros dot Com. I'll
telephone number eight seven seven ninety nine On Fox and
Jalen Brown is doublin down saying he was left off

(15:34):
the team USA has to do with Nike and it's
clout on the game. Is he out there? Martin says
he's out there? I think he's spot on Where are
You eight seven seven ninety nine on.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
I think he's got every right to want to be
on the team.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
But there's a lot of things you can do to
be on the team besides being a Nike athlete, as
we see by over just under half of the roster
not Nike athletes.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Tim in Atlanta, you're on the I Couple on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
WHAT'SI Tim?

Speaker 1 (16:01):
How are you hey?

Speaker 6 (16:02):
Good?

Speaker 7 (16:03):
Real quick man?

Speaker 4 (16:03):
I got to tell you, remember the other night we
were talking about the magic citing thing when you visit yeah, Atlanta, Right,
So my wife walked in the rooms or after He's like, uh,
what was he talking about? Magic? And so I'd tell her.
She says, you and Rob better throw dollars in that collection.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
No doubt, no doubt. I don't. I already don't. It's
all good too.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
But you know, you know, Jaylen Brown is here from
the metro Atlanta area. He's from the Marietta area, and
so a lot of people have talked about sometimes he
can be aloof he can you know, be kind of movie.
So it might be some of the nikey things, but
I think it's like in a cumulative effect of a
lot of things about him, they kind of rub people

(16:50):
the wrong way, So that might be a part of
it too. You know, maybe they don't know how he'll
fit in because there's been especially in the Atlanta area,
about you know, how he can be at times, you know,
with people, teammates, everybody. So maybe it's just a tulis
effect of a lot of things. I'm pretty sure the
Nike thing didn't help, you know, coming up this foos,

(17:10):
but I think it's there's some other things involved as
well too. So you guys have a great weekend, then.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Thank you, buddy, appreciate it. Eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Jack in Texas, Ralb Parker will be down there in
this little bit.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
What you got going on? Man here in the ot couple?

Speaker 8 (17:26):
Yeah, how's it going, guys?

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Doing great? Jack?

Speaker 8 (17:29):
Yes, So you know what I was listening to you guys,
and I can kind of pull a little bit from
both to what you were saying. I agree a little
on both sides, Like I don't you know, like Mark
was saying, I'm not sure what the Nike thing, if
it had a lot to do with it, because I'm
not really sure who owns Team USA and who's kind of,
you know, behind closed doors making those final decisions and
talking about that. So I'm not sure if that really

(17:50):
has anything to do with it. However, I will say
all sports are sort of what have you done for
me lately type deal. So for me, Kawhi being on
the team, mean five six years ago is fine, but
to celebrate him now is like, you know, that would
be like to go back and put Brady in a
Pro Bowl. For me, Oh, I'm not going to do that.

(18:11):
I'm not going to celebrate what you do. I'm not
you know, we can't put I just it's sort of similar.
So I kind of get from both sides. However, you know,
I do believe Dalen Brown did deserve to go based
off the finals MVP, based off the most current champion
in the league, who was the best player on the
court during that championship. And so Mark just kind of

(18:32):
what you were saying. You know, they have accolades for
those things in the NBA, they're called rings and MVPs.
But to be as a team, you're supposed to look
at those accolades and at the most recent ones to
make that team.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Now, I'm with you that those are the things that
you do and then people say, man, this guy is
this or that he's one of the top players in
the league. He deserves an opportunity to play. So thanks
for the call. Appreciated eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Josh in Arizona.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
I hope you're staying cool out there, brother, you're on
the couple on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 9 (19:05):
Man, I'm cooking out here.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
I was gonna say, Man, I know it's hot. My goodness,
it is hot.

Speaker 9 (19:12):
How y'all boys do I appreciate y'all letting me on.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
Yes, sir, all good, man, all good.

Speaker 9 (19:18):
I'm gonna go with Rob on this one. I think
this is a Nike play. He did a lot of
out speaking. Uh was speaking out in regards to Kyrie's
situation too. That's why Kyrie didn't even get a tryout
to go to the Olympics, which was crazy, you knowing
being the type of player he is. But I'll say this,
it's not like they said Tyre's Halliburton was no longer

(19:40):
going to be on the team and we needed somebody
who knew they weren't going to play too much and
you know, support and everything like that. And he couldn't
even come in Jaylen Brown couldn't even come in with
that type of attitude. You weren't on the original roster.
Why would he ever think he could? You know, oh,
I got to beat this big player on the team now.
And let's not act like he can't do everything and

(20:00):
more of what White does, right, You can guards, you
can do all of that. So it just didn't make
much sense. It seems like they just didn't want him
on there for everything that he was doing previously. And
you know that is how.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
It goes now. I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
And just further record, it was reported that Derek White
would have been the replacement for Kawhi Leonard before I
think it was. It might have been before the finals,
definitely before Game two of the finals, so Dalen Brown
hadn't been Finals MVP before, you know when they made
this decision, you know, months ago. Davis and Tennessee, you're
on the couple on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (20:36):
Yeah, Hey guys, how y'all.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
Doing doing great? What's up? Buddy?

Speaker 6 (20:40):
I'm doing all right.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Hey.

Speaker 6 (20:42):
I just had a thought that I'm kind of going
the other way. I think fit for this team matters.
I mean, they got they have two guards and druds
a little older, and what if one of them get
gets hurt and pulled the strain. What if Steph he's older,
gets hurt, pulled the string. Jalen Brown is an all
round player, but he's not a distributor of the bar.
Set up playman. He gets set up. That's what White

(21:04):
does for him over there. So my thing is if
it does matter, because if I mean they had Kawhi on.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
The team, stop with the fit and it's not that
that's not going to determine whether or not they win goal.
I just but just no, no, just hit me out. Okay,
just hear me out. That is not the players that
they decide to pick. Just is not gonna make it.
Derek White is not going to win you anything because

(21:31):
he does these other things and he's versatile on this
and that that's not gonna be the reason why you
win gold. They had Kawhi, Jalen Brown could have done
the same exact thing that Kawhi would have done and
it would have been a seamless and not a big deal.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Kawhi was about to be there out there on a
minister restriction.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
But to the point that Davis just made about the fit,
what happens when Stephan Drew Holliday getting foul trouble when
there's only five thous a forty minute game, you want
somebody else who could.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Bring the ball up to court. Davis, I'm with you, pal.
So that's why they had Kawhi.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Uh I wouldn't have the national team in the first place,
but he was there.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
He was already won there.

Speaker 6 (22:09):
Correct.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Oh, they didn't know what they were doing. They put
together a bad roster team USA. Is that what you're saying?

Speaker 1 (22:14):
That's what me and.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
They didn't know what they were doing. Grand hell and
no guy, they were all They picked a bad roster
with Kawhi Leonard.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
Is that what they did. Wouldn't have put him on
a bet? They picked a bad roster. Stop at you guys.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
You guys are crazy, Davis and Tennessee, I'm staring with
you all right. Uh. Coming up next, we're gonna talk
to anton Antonio Daniels will do that next, but first
let's get you caught up with mister Steve the Sega.

Speaker 10 (22:39):
Good evening, gentlemen, how are you doing well? Thank you
and looking forward to that All Star game on Tuesday night.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
I can't wait. You will be there.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
I will be there. I'm on my way to Dallas
tonight tomorrow. I should say you.

Speaker 10 (22:50):
Will partake of everything, because they have something pretty much
every night starting tonight in Texas.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
Yes, HBCU Swingman Mite tonight tonight, and.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Then what else was first out of the draft is Sunday.

Speaker 10 (23:01):
I know they got the Celebrity Softball and all you
know and Michers Game, Sat.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Huges Game, yep, exactly, and then the Derby on Monday,
and the Midsummer Classic, which I'm looking forward to on
Tuesday night.

Speaker 10 (23:11):
Which will be started by the National League's Paul Skeins,
the rookie pitcher from the Pirates. He gets the nod.
He's six to oh this year. We'll get to more
baseball and scores in a moment. But to the NBA,
Detroit is hiring Luke Walton as lead assistant. According to
The Athletic, Jalen Brunson agreed to an extension with the
Knicks three years plus a player option. Utah Re signed

(23:32):
Johnny Chusing and right now in Summer league action, It's
Day one of the Las Vegas Summer League. The Lakers
Bronnie James had six points in six minutes in the
first quarter. He still has six points as the game
has about thirty seconds left in the first half. Houston
forty nine forty five over La Reed. Shepherd of the
Rockets has hit a couple of threes, but he's two
of seven shooting overall for seven points in the WNBA.

(23:55):
Among the three games tonight halftime at Indiana, Fever fifty
five thirty five over Phoenix in the first half, rookie
Caitlin Clark fifteen points nine is four turnovers. As for
Lynn Williams, she's been added the US women's soccer Olympic
team for the injured Katerina Macario. A reminder of the
Euro Soccer Final is Sunday three pm Eastern Time and

(24:16):
the Copa America Final is Sunday night, both on Fox TV.
At Wimmelon Carlos Alcarez won his semifinal. Ludwig Oberg leads
the Scottish Open by one stroke to the baseball scoreboard.
At Detroit, the Tigers are still holding on to a
three to two lead over the Dodgers. Bottom of the
seventh trek Schooble at ten and three for the Tigers
pitch the first six innings. Athletics still leading at Philadelphia

(24:38):
four to two in the top of the seventh, its
bottom of the sixth that Tampa Bay raised to nothing
over the Cleveland Guardians. METSA had six to two over
the Rockies end of four. Royal still leading at Boston
five to one in the top of the sixth inning,
and the Yankees in the bottom of the fifth at
Baltimore lead the Orioles three to one. Aaron Judge with

(24:58):
his thirty third home run of the season. An All
Star break doesn't come till after this weekend. Aaron Judges
is going to wind up with three hundred career homers
in his first thousand career games. That's incredible, right, It's
going to be at about a thousand, exactly a thousand
games played by the end of this year. He's already
up to two ninety in career homers. He's already the faster,

(25:19):
the most home runs in your first thousand career games, right,
and he hasn't even played a thousand yet.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Back to you, that's.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Pretty pretty amazing, Steve, Thank you. It is the odd couple.
On a funky Flashback Friday, Rob Parker Martin Weiss in
for Chris Bussad coming to you live from the tyle
rack dot Com studios. Antonio Daniels, NBA Champs, Serious XM,
NBA radio host and New Orleans Pelicans color analysts. Antonio,

(25:46):
thanks for joining us. Say hi to Martin.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
What's up?

Speaker 7 (25:49):
Martin?

Speaker 1 (25:49):
What's up? Brother? What's up?

Speaker 6 (25:50):
Rob Parker?

Speaker 7 (25:51):
How you doing?

Speaker 9 (25:51):
Man?

Speaker 1 (25:52):
I'm good? How are you?

Speaker 8 (25:53):
Hi?

Speaker 7 (25:54):
Am awesome?

Speaker 1 (25:55):
I am.

Speaker 7 (25:55):
What's you'all talking about today?

Speaker 2 (25:56):
You already know we're arguing about the Jalen Brown. I
just think he should have been on the team after
they took Kawhi off, and I know he's been outspoken
against Nike and covers up the swoosh. Martin thinking has
nothing to do with it. It was about fit and
Derek White. I'm just not buying it.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
Where are you okay?

Speaker 6 (26:13):
Here?

Speaker 7 (26:13):
Here's my thing with it. I think I've told you
this before.

Speaker 6 (26:17):
Rob.

Speaker 7 (26:17):
I think two things can be true at the same time.
I think that we can stay on one end that
Jayalen Brown does deserve to be on the team. But
on the other hand, I think he handled this the
wrong way in my opinion, because this is your teammates.
Like it's funny how Derek White is a role player
that's been added to an Olympic team, and as opposed

(26:39):
to basically saying, you know what, I feel like I
should be a part of this team. But you know what, man,
I'm happy for my brother Derek White. We just want
a championship together, you know what I mean. Like we've
been in the trenches together. It's all about him and
I just and to me, I think that speaks more
to why they didn't do this, because are you willing
to play Keldon Johnson's role? It's you know, you're the

(27:01):
you're the Finals MVP, you just hoisted Deliary O'Brien trophy,
you're the Eastern Conference MVP, but yet you won't play
it all? Are you okay with that? You know what
I mean? I felt like this should have been more
about Derek White and congratulating and really being there for
your teammates, as opposed to the major story being about

(27:23):
you know, whether or not he should have made it
or not. But that's how I joked about this.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
But Antonio, that might be the case, But shouldn't you
at least ask him whether he wants to play that role,
ask him for an invitation, yet right to turn it down.
I'm just saying and these And that's the part that
I have an issue with is you you could say,
you know what, Hey, you're not gonna play much.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
We're gonna tell you what's going on here. We're gonna
lay it out for you.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
And it's sure you could either accept the role and
come play, you know, be on a team or not.
Because I think Kawhi would have played if he was
on the team, correct how much injury history?

Speaker 7 (27:59):
You know what I mean? Like that, that's easier said
than done. Because the Christ's injury history, I don't know
if he would have played or how available he really
would have been. But here's the thing, though, Rob, Like
this is how I felt also about the Capeman Clark
situation and her playing on the team USA. What happens
is now the argument becomes why is that person not playing?

(28:20):
So even when that person is on the team. Again, again,
I think dal Brown, Dayleen Brown, one hundred percent deserves
to be on that team. But again, if you're at
the finals MVP and you're the ethern Conference MVP and
yet you're the eleventh out of twelve person on that
team and you're not playing, now the conversation centers more
around that as opposed to anything else, Just like Kate

(28:41):
and Clark. If they would have put her on a
team and she's not playing, now people are asking the question, well,
why is she not playing ahead of this girl? Or
why is she not playing ahead of this girl? So
sometimes it's better to cut your losses put someone in
there that you know is okay not playing that may
not play for the entire Olympics. Similar to Keldon Johnson
in twenty twenty, Derek White is that guy, and I

(29:01):
don't have a problem with it. Again, I think two
things can be true at the same time.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
The three Celtics on the team, and and and Jalen
Brown's not.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Something you want to keep to. You want to keep
you want to get him to agree with the Nike conspiracy.
I just keep you keep fishing for it, and he's
not gonna give it to you. There are three.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Celtics on that team, and Jalen Brown's not on the team. Okay,
I agree, that's something's wrong with that. Okay, I mean.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
We see that. That's a fact. I'm just saying you
wanted to keep asking. Come on, he wants you to
say it's all Nike's fault. It's a big global conspiracy. Now,
I do you want to talk about another guy who
was actually the captain of the gold medal team, Jalen Brunson,
who's not also not on this team.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
No one seems to care about that.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
Yeah, that's another Nike uh, another Nike situation.

Speaker 7 (29:48):
Right, Paul George. It's a lot of different guys that
you really realistically could have went with and it would
have been. Okay. So here's my thoughts. Okay, So question
for you guys. When you heard that wiveson Ord left, right,
but he withdrew from Team USA right, First, I don't
think any of us were surprised, But second, when you
heard that Derek White was the replacement, was your first thought,

(30:11):
Oh my gosh, I can't believe that they didn't put
Jayleen Brown on the team. Was that your initial thought?

Speaker 1 (30:15):
No, met either.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Honestly, I was more surprised than put Brunton on the
team because he played on the World Cup team and
was the.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Captain of the team.

Speaker 7 (30:24):
See that's how I That's how I saw this too.
It's not like when that whole thing happened, because there's
an incredible amount of outrage behind Jaylen Brown not being
on this team. And he's coming out and he's like,
you know what, one day you'll hear my story. You
know what, you haven't heard from Jayalen Brown. And I
know he is a stand up man of honesty and integrity.
I know that, But you know what, you have not

(30:44):
heard from Jalen Brown. You haven't heard you know what, man,
I'm happy for Derrick White. I'm having This is a
role player that we're talking about. This is a role
player that gets an opportunity to win gold. And my
mom used to always tell me the true test of
a man has shown during times of diversity, and this
isn't that birth time. And you have an opportunity to
come out and congratulate your teammates, right, give him support,

(31:07):
encourage him to be in this situation, and still tell
your stories. We haven't heard one word about from I
have it. I should say I have it. I'm not
to say that it hasn't been sicked, right, But I
haven't heard one word about Jaylen Brown congratulating Derek White
correctly making a tape and their teammates, their.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
Teammates, Antonio, what do you make of Jalen Brunton taking
less than he could have next year? With the Knicks,
and how much does that have to do with him
giving the owners a break or or or how much
do they have to.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
Do with that? Antonio the second, first and second aprin.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
I'm against ever owners don't give anything back. I'm taking
my max what I'm worth, helping teams out and all that.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
I'm just I'm not with that, Okay.

Speaker 7 (31:50):
But my thought is Jayalen Brunston doesn't do this if
josh Art Deventenzo Michale Bridges aren't on that team.

Speaker 1 (31:59):
Sure, this is the power.

Speaker 7 (32:00):
There's nothing more powerful in life than the relationships we had,
rather vertical or horizontal. There's nothing more powerful and nothing
more important. The reason that he this is the power
of friendship, and that's why he did this.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
This is not friendship. This is business. I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
And you know what, if my friend has an issue
with me taking my value and what I get, then
we're not friends. Okay, I'm talking about you, right, I'm
just saying, like, if they look at me and go, oh,
I can't believe you took what you were entitled to,
God forbid, something happens. I mean, we can all sit

(32:35):
here and say he's going to recoup all of his
money for sure, and everything's going to be great, and
he could be heard and never get that deal again
or whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
Those are realities.

Speaker 7 (32:46):
Yeah, But for me, I don't think it's about your
friends thinking or or getting mad at you for taking less.
That's not how I thought of this. Like, it's not
like not cal Bridges is going to say, man, I
think you could take that money. So I can say
that's okay, But we do know, we do know. Let
me ask you out the question, why did the Boston
Celtics sell the team? Why are they looking to sell

(33:07):
the team right after winning the NBA championship Because he's not.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Trying to put that freight contracts.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
But but but my thing is I get that, and
it makes total sense. You cash out now you want
a championship. They bought that team for peanuts. I'm catching
well two okay, okay.

Speaker 7 (33:22):
I'm palymtically speaking, Rob. They have five guys that they
are paying thirty million plus dollars per year, that's why.
That's right.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Yeah, But whose system is this that they set up?
Whose system is this?

Speaker 7 (33:33):
And that's that's okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
So that's the system that the owners set up. That's
the one that could handcuff the Knicks right that the
owners put out there that they wanted iron clad because
they didn't like what was going on. And guess what
now they're asking Jalen brunts and to help them. So
the question you should ask is why they to it?

Speaker 3 (33:54):
Why did the players agreed to the aprons, Antonio, That's
what I'm curious about.

Speaker 7 (33:57):
I just don't. I don't think. I don't think they
they ask Jalen Brunton to take less. I don't think
that they would do that. I don't think they would
ask him to take less. I think Dyalen Brookley chose
to take less. I don't think the New York Knicks
ownership like, man, you know what if you take less,
we can fill in the blanket. No, I don't, I don't.
I don't believe that at all. I think Jalen Brunson
chose to take less money. You know, because of this,

(34:21):
this new CBA is called the dynasty Killer. It's called
the dynasty killer for a reason because you're not going
to be able to keep teams together unless someone is
willing to take less money. I'm with you, Rob, I
understand the business aspects of this I understand the business,
but on the flip side, I also understand comfortability. I
also understand how unprecedented it is to have an opportunity

(34:44):
to play with three guys that I had an opportunity
to win a national championship wing in college. I want
to keep that together as long as I possibly can.
If that means me taking less money, I completely understand it.

Speaker 1 (34:54):
James, James Dolan is worth. Guys, though James.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
Dolan is worth two billion dollars, they sell French five
for fifteen dollars and beers for twenty.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Worth has nothing.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
Okay, No, I'm just saying I'm just not I'm not
doing any of that. I'm not doing any of that.

Speaker 7 (35:09):
I'll tell you what though. I will tell you this.
This puts a lot of and I know that owners
don't want I mean that the CBA, the NBA does
not like this. They don't like this because I feel
like if it's keeps the wrong like they have never
liked even prior to this, CBA They've never liked when
guys took an incredible amount of less money, They've never
liked that.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Can I can I tell you in baseball a difference
a wanted to take less money to go to the
Red Sox Union would not allow it, Okay, And in
baseball you can't.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
You can't take less money.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
You can't get anything less than what your fully guaranteed
contract calls for because they're not going to allow people
to use that against other players.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (35:52):
But my thing is like, how can as a free agent,
how can you tell me where I can go and
what I can No, no, no.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
When he was being no, when he was being traded,
he was going to take less money, you know what
I mean, like like leave some behind, and they were like, no,
you cannot. You signed for that. You gotta get paid.
That's all right, Antonio. We appreciate your insight as old gentlemen.
Thank you, all right, appreciate it. It is the Odd

(36:19):
Couple on a Funky Flashback Friday, Michael Parsons, I'm gonna
get your take. Is he the seventh best edge rusher
in the NFL? Seventh best? That's what we gotta say it.

My goodness, gracious, we'll do that next.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
It is the Odd Couple Funky Flashback Friday, Rob Parker,

ten thousand recommended installers tire rack dot com the way
tire buying should be, all right.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
Martin.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
Micah Parsons. We already know teammates pushing back on them
with the podcast podcast Parsons, your podcast p and the
NBA and the and the NBA podcast Parsons. You know,
I already gave him a nickname, you know, turn off
his Micah Parsons, turn off his Micahwson. But anyway, now
you know, like I'm not with the podcast and all

(37:57):
the other stuff and all that but now you've got
people evaluating him saying not a great player, or he's
an average player, a middle of the row player, because
he has a podcast.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Well, did did you see the story? What was that
athletic story? The story that he was ranked seventh? Yes,
the seventh best edge rusher? Would you make of that?
I thought it was ridiculous. I thought it was ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
And I think if you think you can name six
better edge rushers than Michael Parsons, well I got what
a beach front in Idaho to sell you. You know,
it's just I don't see anything like there's just not
he's a top three pass rusher and he may not
be three.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
And you and you could be against the podcast and
all the other distractions and other stuff, but on the field, stop.
You can't make evaluations based on off the field stuff.
We're talking about as a player. Look at the numbers,
look at the impact. Yes, did he have a crappy
playoff game against Jordan Love and the Packers when the
Cowboys defense got rough shot? You know they they got

(39:00):
beat up, right, Yes, it was a bad one, but
bad one.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
But this guy's a great player.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
He's He and Reggie White are the only two players
in league history with at least thirteen sacks in each
of their first three seasons. He uh two times all
I mean, he's two times first team All Pro and
he's been.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
In the league for three years, right, Like when you.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
Like it kind of reminds me of the same thing
with Paul Skeans, even though he hasn't done it for
you know, Teller two years. But when you look at
his status and then the timing of where he's at,
he's up there with the all time great When you
start to look at people and the company they keep,
I do agree with that, Like like with this Paul Skeins,
Like when you look at what he's done in his
numbers and you look at the other players who came

(39:42):
up as rookie and Dwight Good and and Steven Strasburg
and Carrie Wood and those guys, when he's in that conversation,
you already know he's elite. And I think in this
case the Michael Parsons stuff, I get it, all the
other distractions in the podcast and all the other noise

(40:03):
that comes with him, but it's about production. It's about
his ability, and you can't downgrade it because of that mark.
I think that's a mistake.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
No, I think maybe that's the case here.

Speaker 3 (40:15):
But to me, if you're ranking players under twenty five
years old, which Michael Parsons still is, and I know
it seems like he may be a little bit older
because he's discussed at nauseum throughout the NFL and the
NFL conversation, he might.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
It's him and Justin Jefferson are right there. To me,
when you talk about the best players in the league now,
I should say the best non quarterbacks in the league
under twenty five years old, He's right there.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
He's right there is t J. Watt, Miles Garrett, and
Michael Parsons.

Speaker 2 (40:41):
The only difference between Michael Parsons and those two guys,
in my opinion, they moved Michael Parsons around a lot.
They put him at linebacker, they do all types of
other stuff with them. I think if you just had
him beat edge rusher and move him around the line,
I mean, we've seen it.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
He's a wrecking He's wrecking shop every game. Nah. He's
an impact player, no doubt about it.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
And it's interesting that the evaluations are gonna go sideways
because of the other stuff.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
I just think that's crazy? All right?

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Coming up next our number three. Should the Raiders just
trade Davante Adams? You got a great wide receiver with
no quarterback. Why even keep them? You might be able
to fleece the Jets and get some picks and do
something else.

Speaker 1 (41:24):
Well, you could definitely flee the Jets.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Okay, like this is something that definitely we should talk about.
Next coming up, it's the odd couple stick and stay
America
