Mister Chris Bussar, Yes, I'm back I'm back, baby.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
I wasn't sure if you were coming back.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Nah, all is good.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
I was down in Arlington, Texas for the home run
derby and the.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Home run it just ended, didn't it. Yeah, I know, right,
they gotta do something. I loved it.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
But golly and the well, it's funny, Chris, is that
they've changed something, all.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Right, right, change longer than usual? Was it longer? I
think so? I don't. I don't know if they might
have to change the rules back, yeah something. Yeah, but uh.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
The All Star Game as well, which was cool everything though,
but it was great.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
I love going to those events, Chris. You get to
see everybody, talk to everybody. The players are really good.
MLB BRO was down there, a couple of my reporters
down there doing stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
It was great. It was really good.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
They are more black reporters from MLB BRO than black
players in the game.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
I mean, like black American players. It probably it was six.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
There were six black American players and we had four.
They didn't close. They had you get one freeze reporter.
We've had over the lab the last few years have
been a little bit more. But you know, Mookie was heard,
you know, a couple other guys Chris who didn't who
got hurt this year? Didn't play John Carlos Stanton was hurt.
(02:51):
He's been an All Star before. But but it was great.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
It was a good. Well, it's good to have you back.
Speaker 6 (02:56):
Man.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Let's rock the house. We speaking the house. We got
Eddie House.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Joined us at the bottom of the eye couple crew.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Uh pretty much.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Uh, well, you know, we still just makeshift a little
bit over the summing.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Rob G. We hope gets well. He's not feeling well.
Strep throat. I talked to him. He's feeling better, but
he's got strep throats.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Have you had that, Chris? I had a long time ago. Yeah, probably,
but years ago. You know, I know it's nothing pleasant. No,
you know that throats with drives me crazy.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
But Ryan Berschinger is in for Rob G. He's the
super producer today.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
And Ryan was all happy because, uh, you know, Otani
hit the home run and then he figured he's gonna
be the m v P of the All Star Game.
Otani write the big home run, Chris, and then nothing.
Speaker 7 (03:48):
I was.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
It didn't happen. It didn't happen. Sorry, Ryan.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
DJ Alex Tysher is back. Mighty Mark Ramsey feeling in
for him admirably. But it's great to have the regime
Marty in a while, Chris. Yeah, we hadn't seen him
in a while. On the updates is Martin whis who
filled in for you the last two days, Rob, And
(04:11):
he did well.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
And then I've seen me on Twitter about you gain
twenty pounds or something from all the loop cupcakes.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
I'm just saying that that's par for the course. He
hung in there and kept on, took a licking and
kept doing. All right, all right, Rob, let's get right
into it. You mentioned Otani and he did hit the
home run, and we had on first things first yesterday Rob,
we had Alex Rodriguez on.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
He's great. He just a great fun I can I
say this, Chris, And I'm not kidding you.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Before he got the job and started doing TV, yep,
I thought to myself, some network should have grabbed him
and he should have you.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Know as a player that he was. I know he
that good.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Yeah, because he was won't spoke and he's got the looks,
Chris for television. You know, he's got all the other
stuff and he's smart, and I thought.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Tom still, you know, there have been times I misjudged
the guy, you know, because he.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Was smart, ransome, well spoken, and they didn't have anything he.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Or two soft so you know, wouldn't say anything.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
No, he he's definitely And what I was gonna say
was I thought Chris like he should have been a
late night talk show host, like a Faon.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Or Jimmy Kimmel. You know why.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
I'm like, if I'm one of the networks, you get
a guy who has a Hispanic background, but you know,
born in New York. He was born in uh uh
in New York.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Born in New York.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
No, he grew up in Florida, in Miami, but he
grew up he was born in New York, Chris, and
and I just thought to myself, you know, with the
country as it's changing to be more Hispanic or whatever,
I really thought he should have been. And now when
you see him on television, I mean, he's a That's
why he was.
Speaker 8 (06:03):
He was.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
He was the first guy at the ESPN and Fox
ever shared you know that, And.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Right that tells you you're good with ESB and Fox
Share you.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
No, he could do that, Rob if he wanted.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
I don't know if you want to or not, and
he's not just good like some athletes are good and
everybody's got their on niche and that's fine. But some
guys are good because of you know, they'll say that
you know that that they'll say, uh, that critical thing
(06:38):
that a lot of athletes won't say, you know, they'll
tell it.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Like it is. He's just good.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
He's got like the whole package, I mean of the game. Yeah,
he's insightful. He's not just making hot takes, you know,
like he's he's excellent, excellent. But anyway, we had him
on first things first, and I asked Tim first, I
asked him Rob about Otany's quest for the Triple Crown,
(07:04):
and then I said, well, if he gets the Triple Crown,
or even if he doesn't, but he continues to have
this type of season. Offensively, he's second in the in
the National League rob in batting average, he's first at
home runs, and he is third in RBI, and he
may not quite get the Triple Crown, but obviously having
(07:25):
a heck of a.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
He's not going to get it, know what I mean,
does good.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
He's eight back now on RBI, so it's gonna be tough.
But anyway, I asked him, does he think he should,
you know, maybe give up the pitching and just be
a full time player.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Here's what he says.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
If he keeps this up as far as the way
he's hitting, and let's say he gets the triple crown,
do you think he should consider just being a hitter
or should he go back to pitching too?
Speaker 9 (07:52):
Well, that that is a great question, and uh, you know,
I'm a guy that likes to try to keep things
as simple as possible. As an example, I don't love
when they move Aaron Judge from center field to DH
to right field. I believe if you have a Lebron James,
you have a Michael Jordan, you just say you sit
here every day and you shoot the basketball, and you
keep it as simple as possible, knowing there's going to
be a lot of distractions around him for a guy
(08:13):
like Otani. My biggest concern, Chris, if that question you
asked me six seven years ago, I would say no,
as you're near your thirties and you see how valuable
he is about being in the lineup every day. And
I've always said that the most important stat for a
mega superstar is availability how many games played. I wanted
to play one sixty two every year, and if Otana
can get as close to one sixty two as possible,
(08:34):
you can make an argument that that is his highest
value for the La Dodgers. So it's something to consider.
That's obviously a question for the Dodgers and for Otani
and his family.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
All right, Rob, what do you think.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
I think that they won't pull the plug on him
even though you know, if he's an everyday dh and
play and every day as a chance, he's just a
tremendous player, Chris. You know, like hitter, you can do
so much damage. But as you know as well, everybody
can't be a number two or one B or whatever
(09:10):
what like. Like he's not young. As far as pitching, like,
you don't find guys like that. They're not all around
just laying around. Teams need pitching. So Dodgers right right now,
they need they need pitching. So it's hard for them
to really even consider that when we've seen that he's
been able to handle both loads. And you don't need
(09:34):
to score a gazillion runs every night to win, but
you need pitching, especially chause of your goal is to
win a World Series at some point and you can't
have that guy now if he starts to have other
arm issues or something else, you know what I mean,
that's going upside. He's just average, right, If he's just
average or something, then then you can look and go,
(09:56):
hey man, we need you in the lineup one hundred
and fifty six games a year.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
We need you, We need your bat.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Yeah, the fan in me definitely wants to see him
keep doing both, Rod, But I'm with you even strategically,
because here's the first of all, as you said, they
need pitching.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
He is an excellent pitcher. He's like an A level pitcher.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
He is, And so as long as he's that, then
you might as well keep him out there on the mound.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
And here's the thing. As great as he's playing this
year offensively.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Last year, while pitching full time, he had forty four
home runs ride, which led the league.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
He hit three oh four.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
He's hitting three sixteen now, so that's only a twelve
point drive that like, you'll take three oh four every year?
Oh yeah, right. His on pace he led the most. Right,
He led the league in homers, on base percentage, slugging percentage,
OPS and OPS plus, and total basis wild pitching full time.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
That's actually more than he's leading now.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
This year, he's leading the league in runs, but not
in OBP on base percentage, so he's still it's the
same amount of things that he's leading the league in.
So my point is, if he can hit close to
what he's doing now as a full time pitcher, then yeah,
I'm gonna keep him on the mount.
Speaker 8 (11:24):
Now.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Look when he's twenty nine, when he gets to be
thirty three, even if he lasts that long rop then
he'll he may slow down on the mound and need
to just hit. But for the time being, he's thirty
actually just turned thirty. For the time being, I think
I would have him do both, especially a team like
the Dodgers, where they should have plenty of hitting without him.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Right they have a lineup, you know, when they're all healthy.
Obviously Mookie Betts is out. He'll be back though, But
I'm with you. I just think pitching is a premium.
If you have a guy who's an A level type pitcher,
it ain't like he's a C level pitcher, be with
C level Chris, then you'd be like, I could get
plenty of guys to give me five innings and give
(12:05):
them five runs, right, right, So that would I would
definitely not have him do that with that bat because
you got to remember, I think the way they do
it instead of you know, batting seven days a week, right,
it's five. Could you take off before you start, Chris
and right? Or I think you take off your start
(12:26):
in the day before, the day after, the day.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Before and the day after, right, and then you start.
He paid one hundred and thirty five games last year.
But it's just a lot considering you were pitching, right,
But that's not one.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Sixty No, that's not one sixty two.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
That's that right, You still missed almost thirty games right right,
right now?
Speaker 2 (12:44):
He's your Is he your National League MVP? Right now?
I think he's fine.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
I think right now his numbers Bryce Harper is on
the best team, you know, they got the best record,
but his numbers aren't as good.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
They just aren't. I mean I looked at him the
other day and I was like.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Rice is only in the top five in homers and
he's got twenty one and the show he's got eight more.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
That's big, I mean, I think.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
And I saw the odds came out today, you know,
judging O'tani you know, judging the American League and Otani
in the National League, which is not a shock that
those guys used to compete because Otani was in the
al right with the Angels, Chris and now the two
best players, and the same thing with Judge. Judge is
another one. Those guys are batting over three hundred Chris
(13:31):
with power, with power, with power. And that's the impressive
thing is that they're not like Kyle Schwarber with the Phillies,
who hits a.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Lot of home runs. But it's batting one seventy.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Five right right, And I mean this would be old
Toany's third MVP in four years.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
I mean just incredible. This is incredible and incredible what
he's doing.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
All right, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight
seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. You're
turning away? Should show he Otani. He's not gonna pitch
this year, we all know that because of the Timy
John surgery, but the plan is for him to do
it next year.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
But he's hitting so well.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Should the Dodgers consider or should o'tany consider just being
a full time hitter and give up pitching. Your thoughts next,
Chris rob Theaka but Fox Sports Radio.

(16:39):
in Otani? Is he so good with the bat that
he should give up the mound? Your thoughts?
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Doug in Naples, Florida. You're on the odd couple, Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Dougie Fresh?
Speaker 5 (16:53):
Hey, how you guys doing you Florida?
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Yes? Yes, we good.
Speaker 11 (17:00):
I got two things.
Speaker 5 (17:02):
The first thing is rop would you rather be on
a cruise with all four Golden girls or go to
the super Bowl for the rest of your life? Number
two is oh Tani good bad? Because that's gonna get
a more mark that an pitch to get him more money.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Well, he's good on money. Yeah, he's good on money.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Hey, no other contract after this, Chris? I come on,
well this one? Yeah, because this one was how long?
Like ten ten years? He's already thirty, you know what
I mean?
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Right, he's thirty. It's forty years or night. This might
be it.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
Yeah, I mean, the money's not the issue, Chris. It's
just a matter of thanks for the call anyway, Doug.
It's just a matter of what he's going to get
the most out of and if a team really needs him,
if he falls off as a picture comes back, Chris
and isn't the same, and as a C pitcher rather
than an an Then you gotta really think about it.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
If he's not doing thing, wouldn't be surprised, Rob, if
he's a C level pitcher that he might want to
step down.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
You know, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
I mean, but when you're that great, you know, if
you just become average at something and you're still great
at the other thing, I don't know if you'd keep
doing it.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
I just saw on the MLB network Jerry Walker died.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Chris.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
He used to be the general manager of the Detroit
Tigers when I was there. Died at eighty five. He's
the youngest pitcher whoever started an All Star Game. But
when he was with the Tigers. The only reason I
just paused here for a minute is I gave him
a nickname. May rest in peace, right, Jerry Jerry Walker
made rest in peace. But I had a nickname for him, Chris,
(18:40):
because when he was general manager he couldn't get any
pitching for the Tigers. He'd always say, you know how
hard it is to get pitching? That was his thing, right,
So guess what the name I gave him in my column?
I called him doctor Doolittle because he couldn't.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Get any pitch. That's pretty funny, right, what do he
saying about? He laughed, He laughed, called doc all right?
Eight seven, seven ninety nine all five.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Yeah, So now I'm look, I Rob, you got more
calls when you Okay, go ahead, Daniel and Tennessee you're
on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 11 (19:12):
Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 12 (19:13):
Guys?
Speaker 2 (19:13):
How are you?
Speaker 11 (19:14):
Dan Man, I'm doing well?
Speaker 9 (19:15):
How are you all great?
Speaker 2 (19:16):
We're great?
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Good.
Speaker 11 (19:18):
So if I was show Hey, I would go ahead
and shut down the pitching. I mean, obviously he's a
he's an A level pitcher when he's healthy. But you know,
we've seen more pitchers over the last two years that
Tommy John surgery is a rising I wouldn't want to
limit that. You know, his potential over the next six, seven,
eight years. And the Dodgers, you know, they'll spend that money,
they'll go out there, they can get another picture. They
(19:40):
can replace him in that regard, but you can't replace
a bat like his. So if I was him, I
just go ahead and shut it down.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Yeah, And the.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
Hard part is to have him come out of the
lineup twenty five thirty games a year like that.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Yeah, that's a lot of games. Yeah. I mean again,
the fan in.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Me selfishly right, you want to see I haven't seen. Yeah,
and at a high level, Chris Right, it's a high
level thing. I mean, look, if he was just so
so at pitching, rob it still would be like something
we've never seen, right, But for him to be great
at both that that's just phenomenal.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
Man.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Yeah, Dave in New Jersey, you're on the odd couple
of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
What's up, Dave?
Speaker 12 (20:23):
Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 2 (20:24):
How y'all doing doing great?
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Good?
Speaker 8 (20:27):
Good?
Speaker 7 (20:27):
Good?
Speaker 6 (20:28):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (20:28):
Check?
Speaker 12 (20:28):
So I think it, Tommy Man, like he's gotta he's
got to get back on the mound, you know, Like
I know he's having this great year right now and
a lot of people are tying it to you know, Hey,
you know it's because you're not pitching. He gets to
focus on hitting, and like causation is not in correlation.
He didn't pitch in twenty nineteen, and you know, his
batting stats didn't jump jump off the page compared to
(20:48):
the rest of his career. He was doing both this
year and having a phenomenal year at the plate and
on the dish, and the dude got he got a
ten year seven hundred million dollar contract because.
Speaker 8 (20:59):
He does right.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Absolutely, because he did both.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
There's no doubt about it. There's no doubt that that's
what made it seven hundred million and.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Rob, you and I have talked about it, like there's
obviously no official you know, ranking, But if he were
to do this, say another five years, where he's doing
both at a high level, I mean, he really would
have a chance to go down as the best player ever.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Hitting.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
I mean, I guess it's a possibility if he just
hits so well for the next what twelve years.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
But it's more unlikely if he's just a hitter and Chris,
would he be well, I don't know who else is
coming up, I should say, but he could be. Is
he the next unanimous MVP or is this somebody? Yeah, Like,
because it's only Marianno Rover, somebody else is probably in
bananimous Hall of Fame? I met unanimous hall of Fame.
(21:53):
I'm sorry, said MVP. I know there are people in
between hit now and ten years.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
I'm not just so.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
I mean that just because look, with all due respect
to Marianno, who was phenomenal.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
No, I know, Hank Aaron Willie Mays, Like, how did
who voted against Will May.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Really, I almost hope that there's not another one rob
this just because it's.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Like if if all the great players now start becoming unanimous,
I mean, it won't be a huge deal, but you know,
it's like all these other legends weren't and.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Which that makes any sense to me?
Speaker 4 (22:30):
I still can't get over one more squeeze, one more
in fill in Rochester, New York. You're on the odd
couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 7 (22:36):
What's up, Phil, Hey, first time, longtime, lots of love
for the show.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 7 (22:42):
Appreciate that I to him a selfish person and let
him play. I want to see it as long as
I can see it until his arm falls off. And Roger,
you know, someone somewhere is going to make the argument
that just because he is splitting his time, that he
didn't maximize his ability in one of these things, and
that alone is enough to hold my vote. Yeah, for
(23:03):
the first year.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
And you know what, Phil, there's the other thing, Chris.
Do you know a DH has never won MVP. A
DH has never won MVP, and he would be.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Doing that well. Some people will hold that again.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
Right because they feel like thanks for the call, Phil Chris.
They feel like, you know, you're only playing part of
the game. You're not out in the field. Well and there,
Look and that ain't that crazy? You know that a
DH is never won MVP.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Yeah, but look, I think he's MVP Rod. But I
kind of get that, right.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
I mean it's like another guy's out there playing shortstop
or center field or whatever and maybe putting up the
same numbers, you know.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
And he's just getting four at bats every day, right, right, right?
Speaker 1 (23:45):
So thanks for listening to The Odd Couple podcasts. Be
sure to catch us live every weekday from seven pm
to ten pm Eastern four to seven pm Pacific on

(24:09):
He's an NBA champion, NBC Sports Boston analysts win Fox
Sports Radio NBA and as I say, the best for
Last Rock, and an Emmy Award winning brocaster our man
Eddie House.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
And he's on Lebron's level because I see his son's
playing for the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
I was just watching him be interviews.
Speaker 8 (24:36):
Yeah, yeah, what's up guy?
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Yeah, his son is playing in the summer League for
the Celtics.
Speaker 8 (24:40):
I mean he is, but yeah, but yeah he is,
But I ain't you know, I wasn't able to manipulate
it the way I mean, trust me this, Trust me this.
If I had a chance too, I would have believe it.
How old are you, Eddie, I'm forty six. Okay, that's
that's ain't no way it was gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
I don't think Lebron's playing that that loan.
Speaker 8 (25:01):
No, ain't ain't no way it was gonna happen for me.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Let's let's go there though.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
How this obviously is a thrill your son, you know,
playing in the summer league. What do you feel about
his chances of getting to the you know, the NBA
one day? And you know, How's like, what are you
telling him about this summer league experience?
Speaker 8 (25:23):
It's the just the always control the controllables. You know,
you're not gonna get in when you think that you
should get in. Sometimes you're not gonna get all the
opportunities that you feel like you deserve, even though if
you go out there and you worked and earned it
in a practice. It's politics that's involved, It's things that
are involved. That sometimes are out of your control, So
(25:44):
don't allow that to seep in and affect the way
that you move when your number gets called. And it
took me a while to figure that out. It was
like four years in when I finally was able to
make that adjustment and say, hey, man, at the end
of the day, I'm over here where about something I'm
not controlling. And then when I go out and and
I get my number called, I've been my mind and
(26:05):
somewhere else as opposed to you know what I mean,
I'm worried about the wrong things instead of the right things.
And the right thing is to always stay ready, to
stay locked into the game, be a great teammate, and uh,
you know, just be prepared for whenever your number get calls,
go out here and handle business.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
I'm not asking you to divulge your cop private conversation
with your son, but being that hit right there, being
that no, I got that, But I'm saying being that
he's in the same position as Brownie per se trying
to get into the league or whatever did did he
at all? Like think about like Brownie's path and what
(26:40):
happened or just you know what I mean, As a
guy who's competing trying to trying to make it as well.
Speaker 8 (26:46):
No, not really. You know, he's focused on himself and
what he can do.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (26:50):
You know, Ronnie has got a guaranteed contract, so he's
locked in. He's gonna be there. He got drafted. Uh,
my son is fighting, uh, you know, to try to
get a two way contract and lock on wherever it
is for whatever team, whether it be the Celtics or
the twenty nine other teams that he's auditioning for as
well if they're not a team that's going to pick
him up. So you know, it's more so just focusing
(27:15):
on him and not really on anything else.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Brianie obviously struggling and shooting about twenty two from the floor.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Not a pretty picture shooting, oh for fifteen from three.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Have you come to any I know it's early, but
have you you know, have you come to any conclusions
about him just from what you've.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Seen so far?
Speaker 8 (27:36):
Well, my thing, my thing mainly was like you know,
when he came out, when he announced that he was
coming out, I felt like, you know, watching him play
AU and watching him play hey man, he could he
probably could use another year in the league, you know,
coming off the heart issue. Uh, he could use another
year of college excuse me, you know, just to get this,
to get everything right, you know, to have a full
(27:56):
summer of working out to attack the college scene in
the way he did. But that's not his path. His
path is he got it. He's there and the one
thing I do want to see him succeed. And the
Lakers gonna do everything they can do to make him succeed.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
If he what can they do? What can they do
to make him succeed? If he doesn't shoot the ball well,
doesn't play well?
Speaker 8 (28:16):
Like, what what can they do?
Speaker 2 (28:18):
They can ignore what's happening.
Speaker 8 (28:20):
No, he's gonna get as many chances as possible to
play itself out as a close to play itself in.
He's got to play their self in. Some guys play
themself out.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
So how do you how does Browny play hisself out? Like,
like if you to do what he's doing right there.
Speaker 8 (28:34):
But he got a guaranteed contract, so he's locked in.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
He's gonna get a chance for three years at least.
Speaker 7 (28:40):
That's all.
Speaker 8 (28:40):
That's all I'm trying to say. So if he continues
to play like this, I mean, you have no choice
but to be like hey, man, But you know, I'll
say this the reason why I feel bad for him,
because this is unwanted pressure that he got because of
who his dad is, doubt and so, and then on
the flip side of that, I never want to see.
I'm always for the youth. I'm the youth movement king.
(29:03):
I'm always about what the youth is doing and how
they trying to get it done. And so one thing
I could say, if I had a chance to talk
to Bonnie, I would say, hey, don't put so much
pressure on every shot, because I consider myself one of
the best shooters that ever played the game. Like I
could sit at that table, you know what I mean
with some of the great greatest shooters. They wouldn't tell
me I can't sit there. And so you can't put
(29:25):
pressure on every single shot, you know what I mean.
And I feel like every single shot he's putting pressure
on himself like it has to go in, has to
go in. You never be able to play basketball succeed
doing that. I think he has to just trust his
work and just go to and just let it fly
and let the chips fall what they may, because he's
going to have the support of the Lakers to make
(29:46):
him succeed.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Yeah, but it's got to be a tough spot though
still because of his dad and the whole situation on
in the big hubbub about him right and then not
to play well.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Like it's worst scenario for if he just plays Okay,
you know what I mean, people can move forward, but
when you go over fifteen and your shot doesn't look good.
I just think it something like puts him in a
like the play out of it is tough.
Speaker 8 (30:13):
I think I got I got a question for both
of y'all. We're talking about Bronnie going over fifteen. He
was the fifty fourth pick or fifty fifth, right, whatever
Picky was. Yeah, what about what about the second overall pick?
Speaker 7 (30:23):
This is Alex.
Speaker 11 (30:25):
Right, you know what I mean?
Speaker 8 (30:26):
He just went over fifteen. Ain't nobody we.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Don't talk about that, Like I will say this, and
I already know why stop.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
I don't know if.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
He Yeah, yeah, okay, let me let me ask you
this Eddie about Brian And I get it, he's not
a point guard, but he's the size of a point guard.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Yeah, and I'm a little surprised that like he's not
bringing the ball up at all, Like I get it.
If he's not gonna you know, he's not read Shepherd
and you know he's gonna be bringing it up every time.
But I would think with his size that and you
know he's got a good basketball I Q that they
would at least give it a shot to have him
(31:09):
bringing the ball up a little bit?
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Are you surprised at that? And does that tell you?
Speaker 7 (31:13):
What?
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Does that tell you?
Speaker 8 (31:15):
That tells me that they're going to try to develop
him into the point guard. I heard JJ ready talk
about the three and D guy. Well, he's not gonna
be clamping guys up like that. He a three and
D guy usually gonna guard the best team score Okay,
and he's not a guy that's gonna be guarding the
best team scorer. That's six six, six seven, you know,
one of those guys you think, can he be.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
A Pat Bev though defensively.
Speaker 8 (31:39):
You know what if you have This is the thing
that I've learned. If you come into the league not
as a defender, you don't leave as a defender. If
you come in and not a great ball handler, you
don't leave as a great only thing that you could
go as you could come in the league, is not
a great shooter and be serviceable. That's the only thing
that you get better. All the other attributes that you
have are what you have, and you just picked every
(32:00):
thing around that that's not up to part to that
and uh, the fact that it's hard to play point
guard in the league. Man, the league is different, you know,
it's it's totally different. And if you're asking him to
be somebody that he has never been, you know, how
can you ask how can that lead to success? Except
you're gonna have to go through all of the rigors
and the work of a whole season. And to me,
(32:23):
that's that's really what it's gonna be. It's gonna be
next year. Let's let's evaluate him again next year and
see if we why.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
I tell you what, and I bet you agree with me,
did you league gonna be rough on you?
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Like they're gonna be going you know what I mean.
Speaker 8 (32:37):
It's gonna be a man no matter where he goes,
it's gonna be rough because he got a target on
his back and he didn't necessarily put it there, but
it's there and he's gonna have to go to work,
and so you're gonna actually see his his mental toughness.
You're gonna see how much work that he is willing
to put in to get to where he goes. And like,
(32:57):
like I said, I think next year is a better
evaluation in this year for him. I mean, you know,
he's a fifty fifth pick. We act like he's a
third pick in the draft.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Right, all right, that's our man, Eddie House again, man,
congratulations of your.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Son and we hope you know, I hope it goes
works out for it, Yes, sir.
Speaker 8 (33:16):
I do too. Thank you guys so much, appreciate.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
It, all right, brother peace, Rob Little NFL. You know,
the Eagles are considered talking to Bill Belichick this summer
about their coaching job. So is the seat below, Nick
Siriani hot Loo get into that next A Couple Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Thanks for listening to The Odd Couple podcast.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
All right, Rob, we know you know the Eagles fell
apart late last season. I don't know what in the
world was going on. I've been calling it a supernatural funk.
But ownership in the front office bet on Nick Sirianni,
the head coach, who has been good three years there,
three years in the playoffs, one trip to the super Bowl.
(34:41):
They bet that he wasn't the reason for that supernatural funk.
Even so, as they brought him back, they did reportedly
consider talking with Bill Belichick.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
So Sirianni was asked about it.
Speaker 9 (34:55):
Rob.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
Here's what he said.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
All I really took at this was I had mister Lowie,
that's the owner of Jeffrey Lowie for the Eagles. I
have mister Lowie's trust, and they said, hey, let's go
back and let's do it again. That's all I thought about.
I haven't really thought about anything else. I really, I
think it's really tricky to think about things that you
can't control.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
I think that's a great answer, Rob. You can't, like
there's no way to even.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Reference Belichick and come out on top, you know, because
he's done so much.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
You know you can't.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
You're not better than Belichick. So you know, they don't
even go there. But I thought he handled it well.
But Rob, look, he is on the hot seat.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
I think.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
I don't think they have to win the super Bowl
for him to keep his job, but they need to
have a good season, playoffs obviously, and maybe win a
game or whatever. But I think he's on the hot seat,
and I think he kind of should be, especially when
a guy like Belichick is out there. You know, he's
looking for a job. He's not gonna coach, not a
long term thing with Belichick. It's if I got a
(36:02):
team that's close, is he the guy that can get
us over the hump? And if Sirianni shows he can't,
then they might go out there and get him.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
So I do think he's on the hot seat route Yeah.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
I mean, obviously, if you if you even look at
somebody else, Chris or you're entertained even in the conversation
or whatever, saying that that things could change and we
know that things are definitely different now where coaches get
moved out faster than ever before.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
We see it in the NBA, and it's always been
like this.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
In hockey, Chris, It's like hockey coaches get fired left
him right, but it's it's it's turned into that in
the NBA. We talk about it all the time. Darvin
Ham won that long ago. He was in the Western
Conference finals and then it was an a hanging a
banner up and now you're out like like like you
didn't not make the playoffs, so lose the last thirty
(36:55):
gets like you're out like like, so I think I
really Rob.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
We saw it happen to Doug Peterson. He won a
Super Bowl with.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
A backup quarterback and enough to keep him around right,
and one bast season he was done. So yeah, it's
and again, Sirianni, I'm not comparing him to Deone Sanders,
but he you know, he's got a fiery personality. He'll
talk some trash, you know, to fans and things like that.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
And when you do that, Rob, you do.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Put a bit of a target on your back because
people will look at that and say, even with Dion
Rob there, they'll do it. They'll look at your personality,
rightly or wrongly. Rob people have a vision of what
they feel. A head coach would act like, you know
what I mean, like he should be, you know, really
(37:54):
mature and above all the trash talk and all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
And if you're not like that, I'm not saying these guys.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
Aren't mature, but you know you trash talk a little bit,
you got swagger.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
If you if you are like that and not.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
What people expect, then they you're your at least is
probably gonna be shorter because people will blame you know,
your personality maybe at least a little bit on why
you're not winning, you know, and so when you do
have kind of an outspoken personality, you you need to
win or you could be uh moving moved on from
(38:33):
pretty quickly.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Yeah, it's it's uh, it's high.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
Stakes now, Chris, and they went to the super Bowl
and now anything less, right, you're gonna move.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
On to the thing like you waste have success, right,
you went there.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
So they're not looking at you to be like, oh,
if we just win the division or if we win
twelve games, were good? No, no, no, no, right, that's
not that's not gonna be good enough.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
Had they gotten just gotten to the play, y'all, maybe
you know, the expectations wouldn't be quite as high.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
That's definitely expectations change, and that's what the Eagles are now.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
And then robbed the assay crime Barkley. So yeah, I
mean they're they're they're Super Bowl or bus pretty much.
So all right, it is the odd couple. We got
two hours left, y'all know what to do. Keep that
bad boy locked
