All right, let's welcome into Odd Couple crew, because we

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Rob g of course, yeah, is our producer.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
Brian Finley is at the anchor desk, the newly married
Brian Finley. Yes, and it's still going. It's been more
than a couple of weeks, right, and it's been like
three days. Three days, Rob, for your your marriage lasted
all was that six days?
Speaker 3 (02:39):
It was like six days.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
I think a ham sandwich not in the refrigerator last
would last longer than my marriage.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
You know what I'm saying. Well, yeah, I mean you
told me five years, so that's you know, all right? Yeah, yeah,
all right.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Of course, Elijah is our social media guru and behind
the ones and twos, Yes, that's right, Mary, Mary, behind
the ones and two. She's our engineer for today.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yep. But let's get going, all right, Aaron, let's start here.
We know. I'm just gonna tell it like it is.
T and T.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Played a dangerous game of chicken with the NBA. Okay,
if you have something that you really want, you don't
play around when negotiations open. How much is gonna cost?
Let's get this thing done. No, the president of you know,
I know it's Warner Discovery. I don't know the name
of it, right, it's like a million name now TN
t Okay. He goes on the record and says T
(03:45):
and T could live with survive without. The NBA did
say that was on the record. I okay, So if
I'm the NBA, okay, I got you. I heard what
you said like a threat, right that you don't come
to the table, you don't do what we want, we'll
move on.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
That's what it sounded like me, like a threat, a
veiled threat.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
So the.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Bargaining starts and the other networks get involved. The NBC
had been out for a gazillion years. Oh my god.
They want to sell Peacock. They want to be able
to get people to buy the streaming service. So you
gotta give people a reason to pay the five ninety
nine or whatever it is.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
So in the last hour, TNT runs back and said, wait,
there's a clause. We can match any deal.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
You know, the big deal with Amazon that Amazon grabbed
their deal. O, hey.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
We can match it. So they come up and say, here.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
It is, We'll give you exactly what Amazon is going
to give you. And guess what, Rob g The NBA said,
no way, no how, And then this press release amazing.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Yeah, they said thank you, but no thank you.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
Here's the press release in part Warner Brother Discovery's most
recent proposals did not match the term of Amazon Prime
Videos offer, and therefore we have entered into a long
term arrangement with Amazon. They close it with We're grateful
to turn our Sports for its award winning coverage of
the NBA, and look forward to another season of the
(05:15):
NBA on TNT, which is.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Next year, which is the last year.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
But Aaron, I gotta tell you right here, right now,
if you're an NBA fan and TNT is going to sue,
I don't know why they're going to waste their money. Okay,
you can't force somebody to want to be a partner,
like seriously, like it's just going to be a waste
of money. I have no idea why they would do that.
The NBA has obviously doesn't want to be there. And
(05:40):
if you're an NBA fan financially and all that and
the future, I get why the NBA picked Amazon. They
got gobs of money global all that. But if you're
an NBA fan today, you gotta feel like you got
slapped across the face by the NBA because they just
(06:02):
took away something that you were comfortable with that worked.
You talk about comfort food, mac and cheese, don't tell
me inside the NBA like they had a chance.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
The NBA had a chance. It ain't like.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
TNT said, we're gonna give you a third of the money.
They were going to match the money. So the NBA
wasn't gonna lose any money by getting back in bed
with TNT and instead of doing what the fans want.
How many people have tried to imitate inside the NBA
and they can't do it. It's the best studio show we've
(06:40):
ever seen. And the NBA had a chance to give
it back to the fans that have watched it, adored it,
have loved it, and they said, no, we don't care
about Charles and the inside the NBA and Kenny and
we kindling that we don't care if the fans love
(07:01):
this more than life itself, we don't care.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
It's no.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
It's frustrating as a fan because ultimately today it's exactly
what you just said, is the money is even First
of all, whatever happened to just being a good partner, right,
And I understand as you said. The president of TNT
whatever the corporate company is, he did say on the record, Hey,
look we can survive without the NBA. Now I'll say
(07:28):
I do wonder if he said that at a time
where he thought that he had leverage, that maybe there
weren't gonna be as many bidders.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
I think that's what he but you can't say that
on the record, even if you believe it.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Now, I agree, and I'm not saying that TNT is
blameless here, But at the same time, and I think
this is a frustrating part about being a sports fan
in twenty twenty four every single man. Keep in mind too,
by the way, keep in mind that we're talking about
billions of dollars.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Think about this, what is it.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
Jason Tatum, because of this new TV deal, in the
final year of his new contract, is going to make
seventy million dollars.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
So the money is the same.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
Players are making more than they ever could have imagined
even a decade ago. Owners these these franchises are worth
so much money. The Celtics are selling their team right
off of a championship, and so the money is there.
Everybody's making money, and at some point like why can
it never be about the fans? Why is it always
(08:29):
about making every single dollar? Think about I'm sure you
and Chris talked about it. At the time the NFL
Christmas Day. Now it's on Netflix. I understand that most
people have Netflix, but to watch the NFL, you gotta
have Netflix, you gotta have CBS, Fox, Amazon Thursdays. And
it's like, when is it ever about the fans? And ultimately,
at the end of the day, I think the other
(08:50):
factor is exactly what you said. It's not just some
other network, It's not just it is an iconic brand
that the NBA is taking. The NBA is choosing money
and exposure and this and that over the iconic brand
of TNT. You could argue the most popular thing about
(09:11):
the NBA in general is inside the NBA Chuck Shack,
Kenny Ernie, and you're just giving it all away. And
as you said, it's not as though there's more money.
It's the same money, and you're just pushing it aside.
I just as a consumer of not just the NBA
but sports in general. At some point, when is it
ever going to be about the fans again, rather than
(09:32):
just making the most possible money that you can spot on.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
It's just and in this case, they weren't losing anymore.
That's what I'm saying. This could have been a feel good.
I know CHG. Barkley said he was going to retire regardless.
Next year was his last.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
But they could have still kept that show that's been
on for almost like thirty years or whatever. It's a
it's a real part of and and all the other
networks sys on trying to be able to get that.
And there are a lot of bad games and people
still don't kid. They still want to watch the Inside
the NBA.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
I'll tell you there's times where some of those West
Coast games maybe you know I live on the West Coast,
so it's easier. But if you don't catch the end,
I'll go back the next day and watch Inside the
NBA on YouTube just to be like, Okay, I miss this,
I miss that?
Speaker 1 (10:18):
What?
Speaker 5 (10:18):
And that is the part, like you said, if the
money was different, I understand it's a business. I but
the money is the same and the inside the NBA
guys are so synonymous now with this sport. And to
your point, the NBA could have done right by their fans.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Do you know fans would have rejoiced today if they
were sayingcause most are saying I don't have Amazon, Like,
let's not everybody doesn't have Amazon.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Prime. I no, no.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
I agree, and and and even if you do, if
there's no inside the because one thing that listen, I
get to your point earlier. Amazon is global. Amazon reaches
every corner of the globe.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
They're printing money, okay, and their money's not going to
run out.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
No, their money's not going to run out. But also
what I think the tactical mistake from both the NBA
and Amazon is is that Amazon sees the success of
Thursday night football and they say, well, you know, I mean,
we're crushing it in football. The NBA isn't football Thursday night.
That's the only game on and if you want to
watch it, you have to have Amazon where respectfully, if
(11:25):
it's a Thursday night game, there's eighty two of these things,
even if it's the Lakers, even if it's the SEB.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
But it's still about all they care about. They don't
is the people signing up for their service. That that's
sure if you can get somebody to put in I
don't know, I don't even know what is it fourteen
dollars a month or what like?
Speaker 3 (11:47):
You know, you know what kind of cash that is?
Speaker 4 (11:49):
If twenty million people sign up at fourteen dollars a month,
like like that's free money, Like that's that's what they're
looking for. And they realize they have to offer you
something to get you. You know, these other streaming services,
you got to really pick five ninety nine here, six
ninety nine here. You know, you gotta say, do I
really want that? When you add it all up, it's
(12:11):
like paying for cable anyway.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 7 (12:13):
No.
Speaker 5 (12:13):
So, but I keep going back to what you said,
the money is the same. You could have done right
by your fans, and Rob, I think I cut you
off because you said it, and you're right. This would
have been a day of celebration if the NBA just
put kind of their egos aside and said, you know what,
money's the same. They've been our partner for thirty years.
The world loves Chuck, Kenny, shaq Ernie. Let's figure out
(12:35):
a way to get this done.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
There you go. And instead they said, no, they're not
doing it and they don't care.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, It's a worship
Wednesday here on the Odd Couple eight seven seven nine
nine six sixty three sixty nine, and yes, we want
to hear from you. Is the NBA dumping inside the
NBA for Amazon, a slap in the face of fans.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Did I nail it or no? Or is this his business?
Speaker 4 (13:00):
And now you know what at the fans, I'm just
saying and it's all about money. We'll continue to conversation
next with you. It is The Odd Couple. Rob Parker,
Aaron Torres in for the vacation in Chris Bussard right
here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (13:15):

Speaker 3 (13:36):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 8 (13:37):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get to.
Speaker 9 (13:40):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yeah, you blubber list lame and me.
Speaker 8 (13:54):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 9 (13:58):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 8 (14:12):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also Uncensored, by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.
Speaker 9 (14:22):
There you go, over promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised
with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
It is the Odd Couple. Oh Yeah, On a worship Wednesday.
Coming to you live from the tire Rack dot Com Studios.
Rob Parker, Aaron Torres in for the vacation in Chris
Bussard If you want to jump in eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox Tired of feeling a loan in
your job search. With just one connection, you can find
(14:55):
endless job opportunities. That connection is Express Employment profession don't
go it alone. Visit expresspros dot com to find your
location nearest you. That's Expresspros dot Com. We're talking about
the NBA and they said, oh, that's nice. TNT tried
to get back in on the back door on the
(15:16):
new TV deal. No way, no how, They're gonna go
with Amazon. They don't care about the nostalgia. They didn't
do right by NBA fans. They didn't do NBA fans
any justice. Today they said they don't care about nostalgia.
Eight seven to seven ninety nine on Fox and Aaron,
I know some people want to jump in.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
He has Zach in Albany.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
You're on the odd couple Aertors filling in for Chris
Brussard alongside Rob Parker.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Zach, go ahead, Hi.
Speaker 10 (15:42):
Guys, how you doing great praise Jesus on worship Wednesday? Yes, sir,
I just want to say, it's definitely slapping the face
to all them, to all the NBA fans and the
sports fans in general. I also, I work for a
cable company.
Speaker 11 (15:56):
I worked for Spectrum, so I'm starting to see how
every thing switching the streaming now, and you know, it's
kind of a pain in the ass for me too.
And uh, you know, but I definitely I feel like
if none of the negotiation stuff happened, I feel like
Charles Markley wouldn't have even talked about retirement because I
know he did that around the time the negotiations and
(16:17):
stuff like that started.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
Well, but and I was just gonna say, appreciate it, Yeah,
thank you, Zach. What I know, what I was gonna
say was it's what he just said is exactly right.
What zech just said is exactly right. Is it's just
it's just hard for fans, right because now, say you
are an NBA die hard. Okay, you got your your
ESPN games on Friday, but then you got whatever day Amazon,
you got some games on NBC, but some games on Peacock.
(16:41):
And you know, listen, I know you're a big baseball fan,
but it's the same thing. Some you know, they got
games on TBS, they got games on ESPN.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Because everybody needs inventory.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
I mean it's a lot to be able to keep
up with where the game, where's the game?
Speaker 5 (16:54):
Well and again to go even to go to the NFL.
I get it, the NFL's king whatever. But it's like Netflix, Amazon, NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS, whatever.
It's just it's just a lot and the fans are
losing out. And the problem is, Rob, as you said
last segment, the money is the same. This could have
(17:15):
been a feel good moment for the NBA, for Adam Silver,
who's taken a lot of negative pr the last couple
of years. Like, dude, keep inside the NBA, keep TNT.
By the way, Amazon's gonna have money ten years from now,
eight years from now or whatever. So anyway, we'll get
to how about we get to Jabbari in Michigan. You're
on the Odd Couple Air Torres filling in for Chris
(17:35):
Brussard alongside Rob Parker.
Speaker 9 (17:37):
Go ahead to Bart, thank you very mind.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 7 (17:40):
Happy worship, no doubt?
Speaker 3 (17:43):
What's up Jabari? How are you going good?
Speaker 7 (17:46):
Yeah? Like I said, I appreciate what you do. Rob
Poarker from the City of Choice. Especially have that radio
station there.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Sports Rob Radio and the Odd Couples on Sports Rob Radio.
We're an affiliate of Fox Sports Radio, proud affiliate and
people can.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Hear off show.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
And I haven't congratulated you yet I launching the network.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
We definitely definitely want to help out and support and
get involved as well as to make it bigger than
what it is today. So I appreciate that for story. Yeah,
so yeah, my thoughts are, yeah, I definitely this is
slapping the phase. I was talking to you know a
few folks past a couple days about it. It's unfortunate
because you know, just like two years ago, when NFL
chose Amazon Prime, you know, to you know, for Thursday
(18:26):
Night Football, I just feel like that it wasn't really
a good idea because I'm like, you're telling us to
get on streaming services instead of on television. I mean,
I just I just never liked that, especially with inside
the NBA. It's always been great for the NBA, great
for fans. I Mean, one of the things I think
you agree too, is that one of the things people
will get excited for is about, well, what does Chuck think,
What does you know? What does Check think?
Speaker 3 (18:48):
You know?
Speaker 7 (18:48):
And it's and sometimes it's more than just basketball. It's
just about creating that bond crane, that entertainment crane that
you know, that relativity you know that they have for
the game. And I feel like that the fact that
they chose streaming over cable, it's kind of scary. So
you know, it's it's unfortunate, but they're they're basically telling
us that, well, eventually everybody had to get the streaming
(19:10):
instead of worry about cable television.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
It's a blow to cable television, no doubt about it.
It's about streaming. And look, you know, even the NBC deal,
it's about Peacock.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
You know that.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
I mean, it's NBC TV, but it's about Peacock. Why
NBC wanted to get in on that, So, uh, it's
kind of crazy.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
All right.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Coming up next, we're gonna talk with aging Adrian Brandt
h some NFL stuff.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
He's I'm sorry, Andrew Brandt.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
He is very insightful and probably the most honest former
executive because he talks about all the time that like, uh,
NFL teams can do basically whatever they want if they
really want to do something to pay people, kick it
down the road, all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
He's been talking about it for a long time.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
And he's the distributor of the Sunday A seven newsletter
as well.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
So Andrew Brandt will talk with him.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
But first, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at
Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search
FSR to listen live.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
All right now, coming up here on the odd couple
Andrew Brandt, the former NFL executive and distributor.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Of the Sunday seven newsletter. Where are you? Because your
phone is so loud?
Speaker 12 (20:33):
Andrew, Hey, guys, I'm driving. I hope you hear me.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
All right, okay, but it's better now close the window,
Please slow down, make sure you're going to speed limit.
Speaker 12 (20:41):
How are you, buddy, I'm doing well. I was listening
to that report, you know my saying there will be lawyers.
I think the T and T lawyers are gonna have
a field day here. I don't know what the match
is exactly, but obviously this is something there going to
go away quietly.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
So but let me let me.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
Say this to you. So their executive, here's my thing.
They played a dangerous game of chicken with the NBA
and they lost. Like the guy went on the record
and said TNT could live without the NBA.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
On the record, I'm not surprised they lost it.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
When your chief executive says that publicly have you the NBA.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
I'm like, okay, we got you.
Speaker 12 (21:26):
Really Yeah, I think there was obviously bad not bad blood,
but there was tension for a while. But once Amazon
put in the offer, it seemed like TNT said, well,
that's nice. We have matching rights and they feel that
they match. The NBA feels that they didn't match. So
when I say there will be lawyers, it's almost looking
(21:46):
backwards because what did the lawyers put in the contract
to begin with? And did they match appropriately? As it
was said? Could they not match a streaming service? See,
I don't know what they did.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
I think what they'll be able to argue is the
reach compared to cable And now I'm just good, I'm
not a lawyer. The argument will be that cable television
is dying and that the numbers, you know what I mean,
even though if the money's even, our reach won't be
the same.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
That's why it won't match up. Does that make sense, Andrew?
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (22:20):
I think so. I mean I think this is something
where the NBA lawyers and they have good ones, said
we're good, but we're gonna take a We're gonna take
Amazon and Warner Brothers TNT. By the way, still have
another year left, So all these people lamenting Charles Barkley,
et cetera, there's a year left, so nothing's happening.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Firm Ye we got one year. All right.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
Let's talk about Jordan Love, your former team, the Green
Bay Packers, and I'm with Jordan Love. Okay, He's been
on a team for four years, They've watched him in practice,
they know everything about him. He had a great second
half of the season, they won a big playoff game.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
What more do you need to know about me? Why
won't you pay me?
Speaker 4 (22:59):
And I'm not going to go out there and get
hurt without being paid. Is he off his rockers or not? Yeah?
Speaker 12 (23:05):
I think he's right, and I think this is very friendly.
It's not a holdout, it's a hold in. Or it's
more a love in, if you will right, they want
to do a deal. He wants to do a deal.
Now is down to numbers. I think, like you mentioned this,
it brings back a lot of deja vous. We had
Aaron in the building for three years. We knew what
we had. We knew we knew it was ready to
(23:27):
bring him out of the bullpen and That's exactly what's
going on with Jordan. They know, they knew last year,
they know after last year, before last year and last year.
So is it going to be fifty million? Is it
going to be fifty five year? And the things that
I look for, you know, what's to guarantee how long?
When can the team get out of somehow things don't
(23:49):
go the way they want? Those are the neute details
that people don't think about. But I think it'll happen
this week. It's just a matter of when. But he is,
there's just not on the field, but he's there and
going to meetings, et cetera.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
So, Andrew the Cowboys, what do you think the big
picture resolution is from the Cowboys perspective? Obviously CD is
holding out a training camp as of right now. Does
this result in Dak, CD and Micah getting the money
that they want and then there's basically nothing to go
around for everybody else? Do you think somebody takes a discount?
Do you think Dak is not back? What do you
(24:26):
see as the long term resolution in Dallas?
Speaker 12 (24:29):
The most curious situation around the league. In my mind,
I don't think I'm surprised none of these deals are done.
But then the other side of it is, I was
at that game where the Packers rolled them in the
playoffs and Mike McCarthy. Everyone expected Jerry Jones to fire
him that night, and here he is back another year.
(24:52):
Dak's in his last year. Thinkause, in this last year,
I mean, I'm getting the feeling this might be a
re say it, write it out here and reset next year.
The fact they haven't done deals as they begin training
camp seems odd. And Dack's got extraordinary leverage because he
(25:12):
did this four year deal. Is in the last year.
They either got to pay them an extreme amount of
money or franchise the camp. Franchise them next week. They can't, right, right,
So this is I would not be surprised if they
don't do anything. Wow sort of say, well, we're going
to ride it out this year. Let everyone play their
contract year out and we'll see what happens. And of
(25:34):
course they have the tag for either Lamb or persons
if they want it.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Right.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Our guest is Andrew Brandt, former NFL exec distributor of
the Sunday seven newsletter.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Let's go here.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
The NFL, we all know, want a eighteenth game regular
season eighteen game regular season because.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
It means more money they can sell.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Lad They don't want exhibition games which are locally reduced
and bring in no money, no revenue. They want another
game that they can charge the national broadcasters. If I'm
the players Andrew, the only way I discussed this with
Roger Goodell in the NFL is if players get lifetime
(26:18):
healthcare and some sort of better pension plan like without
that on the table. When I'm the players union or players,
I'm not interested in the eighteen game. They took the
seventeen games so that they could smoke weed and not
be tested and stuff like that, instead of securing better
you know, benefits for.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Their players, What should they asked for something like that.
Speaker 12 (26:44):
I'm with you. I don't still don't see what the
player's got for giving up the seventeenth game.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
They got a chance to not not be test busted
for weed.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
That was one and less practices. Have to state this
legal neither here or that right, but I'm just there.
Speaker 12 (27:00):
What I'd see a lot is the NFL getting what
they want for things that are easy gives. They have
given things like reduced practice time times in the offseason,
less padded practice.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
That costs them, no money.
Speaker 12 (27:15):
Nothing, nothing. So when Roger Goodell talks about, yeah, we
might go to eighteen games, he either doesn't anticipate resistance
from the players, or more likely, he knows that even
with resistance from the players.
Speaker 6 (27:30):
He'll get it.
Speaker 12 (27:31):
And what's amazing is that the CBA is not up
till twenty thirty, but we're talking about it now, and
the leader of the union is saying, well, we'll talk
about it, so we may even see this in twenty
twenty five or twenty twenty six, which is extraordinary to
me that we're only three years into seventeen games. So yeah,
(27:52):
it seems like an inevitability, and even sooner than you
would think.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Let me ask you one quick one, Andrew before we
get out of here. We talked a little bit about
DAK and obviously they're you know, Rob open with Jordan
Love and I'm just curious, why is it that all
of these quarterbacks assume that, regardless of production, they're going
to be the ones to reset the market. And then why,
(28:17):
for the most part, are teams always acquiescing, Like I
go back to DAK, where I just say, listen, we
got to pay other guys. We've seen who you are
as a starter for seven eight years. I know, I
understand I'm not in those negotiations, but I just don't
understand why it feels like the teams, for the most part,
always acquiesce even if we know a guy isn't that
upper upper upper tier guy.
Speaker 12 (28:38):
Yeah, I was really I agree with you, and there
seems to be no middle ground. We had a couple
middle ground contracts, like for Ginos Smith last year and Garoppolo,
but it's either a rookie contract or someone making fifty
million dollars. And I think what happens is teams get nervous,
(28:58):
like what do we do if we don't right? And
this was this was Daniel Jones last year? What do
you do? So they paid a market which is two
years really because that's what the guarantee is of eighty
two million dollars. And then here they are looking at
quarterbacks on that hard knock. Every show is like, wait.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
A minute, but Andrew, really the Daniel Jones you can
see that from a mile away. Really, how in the
world could you be a GM or be in that
front office with the giants. Look at him, and I'm
not trying to disparage him, like you can't play or
it is not a place for him in the league,
and make that make that contract offer, Like I don't
(29:39):
get that.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (29:41):
The most interesting one, which we haven't talked about, which
we'll leave with is too because I don't I think
that's what's going on there. I think they're trying to
pay him but not the rate of the borough. Herbert
and I think love contracts, and he's prob saying, well,
why not, right what we're talking about now, and they're saying, well,
(30:05):
we love you, but it's not going to be that level.
Maybe it's thirty five a year, maybe it's even forty
a year. So that I think that's what's going on there,
which is going to be the most interesting one.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
No doubt.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
His name is Andrew Brant, one of the best in
the business. We appreciate that knowledge and the insight Andrew.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Thank you was the pleasure, guys, no doubt, thank Andrew.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
All Right, Coming up next on the odd Couple, we're
going to talk about a little bit of Mike Trout
and his setback. Bad news for baseball fans because this
dude was supposedly going to be the best, greatest player
I ever played. Obviously, show, Hey showing up as well,
But before that it was Mike Trout that and a
little Shekel City. It is the Odd Couple on a

You know what, Aeron Torres, it is now time for
(31:53):
a little Shekel City. All right, here we go three
later baseball games. We're gonna take a look at best bet.
I'm gonna go with the Los Angeles Dodgers at home
taking on the San Francisco Giants. Okay, Dodgers minus one
and a half runs, that's our best bet. I got
(32:14):
Kansas City plus one and a half runs. I picked
Arizona list last night. They beat Kannessee, covered the spread
very nice. And I'm gonna take Texas minus two and
a half runs at home against the horrible Chicago White Sox.
So again, best bet Dodgers minus one and a half
taken on the rival San Francisco Giants in Dodger at
(32:36):
Dodgers Stadium, Kansas City at home plus one and a
half runs against the Diamondbacks. And I'm taking the Texas
Rangers at home hosting the lapless Chicago White Sox. And remember,
Aaron Taurus, I'm not telling you who to bet on.
I'm telling you who I bet on. Okay, that's my disclaimer.
In case somebody comes back and they lose their mortgage.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Your that's the worset right.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
Oh, you said exactly so, Mike Trout Angels, you know
there was nothing bigger than Mike Trout when he came
into basement, like, oh my god, this guy can go
down in history as the greatest player who ever played.
(33:19):
He was in the hunt for MVPs every year. He's
only been the playoffs one year. People didn't care regular seasons.
His numbers swept right right, yep, he played three games
and playoffs in his entire career. Nobody cared about any
of that, or whether or not he played in any
meaningful games.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
It was all.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
About his war.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
This guy could play center field, he could catch, he
had speed, he had power, he had for average.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
What couldn't he do?
Speaker 5 (33:47):
I can I can think of one thing he couldn't do.
I stay healthy, So too, now stay healthy and win
games that matter.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Yeah, there you go. And so now here we are.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
And he had he was supposed to be in a
rehab start, came out of that yesterday, and now he's
going to be reevaluated. So the rehab is scratched and
going forward he's it with a rash of injuries the
last few years. I'm not saying he's not going to
(34:19):
the Hall of Fame or his career is over, or
people not going to think he was a great player,
but he's not going to be on the proach that
he was.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
It's just like, it's just too much happening, too much happening.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
You know.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
I'm kind of blown away by this. Since twenty twenty
obviously that was the COVID season. So the last four seasons,
there's one hundred and sixty two regular season games. He's
only played eighty two or more once and that's the
last four Yeah, So I mean to look at the
beginning of his career.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
You've got the stats, yeah, I do.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
It's it is unbelievable, and it's just listen, on the
one hand, it is really sad, and the other injuries
are just unfortunately part of life.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Like you know, it's more so than ever before.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
I just cannot get over in all the sports, these
guys seem like they can't stay healthy.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
Well, it was interesting, I mean because Embet said that
a few weeks ago, right, he said, well, I mean
if I had stayed healthy, I could have gone down
as one of the all time greats.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
It's like, but you didn't stay healthy. Right now, and
so with him, it's.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
Interesting because it stinks because it's two things, right. It's
it's he can't stay healthy. But he doesn't even like
he does he does he even have a signature moment,
like you're you're the baseball nut, like.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
You know, there is no signature moment because most of
those moments.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Most are in the postseason. No, I agree.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
That's why Reggie Jackson had the nickname mister October, you know, like,
because that is what people are looking for. A moment,
a situation. You can say, Derek Jeter the flip. Yeah,
you know what I mean, there's all kinds of plays.
Derek Jitda hit a home run on November first, somebody
held up aside mister November. So like, I could go
on and on about these big moments because those are
big games that you remember, of course, and he doesn't
(35:56):
have that. But his first six years, seven years, I mean,
look at the the numbers were ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
Numbers were ridiculous, and but it just speak.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
He's just gonna go down as one of those great
stats guys that I think two things. One great stats
guys that ultimately it doesn't matter by the way, we
have those in every sport. You know, I hate to
compare him to like Mellow maybe, but like Mellow.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Great stats. No, real memory, you know, and then and then.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
That's a good one. Okay, thank you on your baseball guy.
I feel like he's a little bit more of a
team player than Mellow, but neither here.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
But what I'm saying, but Mellow was was a stud
as far as numbers and what he put up.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
And you know what I mean, like, what's the best
Mellow moment?
Speaker 5 (36:38):
I think the Knicks made the second round one time
when he was there, So.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
So you have that.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
But I think it's also gonna be a pseudo what
if because he's still gonna have great numbers. But to
the point that you led the segment with Rob, last
four years, it's been injury after injury, can't stay healthy,
And I think it's gonna be one of those he
had a great career, but it's also gonna be kind
of one of those what if careers as well.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
Yeah, that's the way you'll have to look at him,
because he's just not going to reach some of these
other milestones.
Speaker 5 (37:05):
You know that you would have thought, maybe, I don't know,
what does he have lifetime home runs? Lifetime home runs
he has three hundred and seventy eight.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
Yeah, so so he might not get to five hundred,
which which if you would have said that four years ago, right,
you would have been like, oh, he's gotta get five
hundred easily, he might get six hundred.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Yeah, he's not.
Speaker 5 (37:23):
He's at six sixteen hundred hits. So I mean, do
the math. I mean, he's not even halfway to three thousand. No,
that's kind of the benchmark of.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
That's another magic number. Five hundred home runs, three thousand hits,
So all those things are look like they are not
going to happen for him. So that's a shame. But
he's a tremendous players. Legacy's definitely taken a hit and
banged up like his injuries.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
Man.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
All right, coming up next on the odd Couple, we're
gonna talk about the quarterback situation Dolphins Cowboys with Tua
and Dak and Aaron Torres says he has walk away
numbers for both Tua and Dak. That'll be interesting to
hear from him. Plus we'll hear from Henry McKenna from
(38:07):
Fox Sports, he's an NFL reporter, will jump in with
him as well in the second hour, So that is
much more you need to stick around. Rob Parker. Aaron
Torres in for the vacation in Chris Bussard right here
on Fox Sports Radio, Stick and Stay America
