Absolutely absolutely and he man's MLB Bro in our fourth

now on Hbcugo dot Tv. Jr. Second broadcast is on
Monday afternoon at noon on the streaming service and a
(02:52):
proud moment for all of us at mlbbro dot com.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, for sure, it's been four hard years and you
had a plan when we got together and embarked on
this endeavor to cover black and brown baseball players and
bring a light to the historical significance and also the
six percent of black and brown players that are playing
now the numbers are lower than we would like, so
(03:18):
we want to shed a light on the guys that
are doing well and the journey that they took to
the league. So now that we have this TV show
on HBCU Go, that's also a great thing, and we
hope to reach more people and also get more people
involved in baseball while we develop the next generation of
black and brown baseball reporters and contact creators and editors
(03:41):
and analysts.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
All of that, yep, and more. But we are definitely
proud of that. All right, let's welcome into the Odd
Couple crew. We wouldn't be able to do this find
radio program without them. Alex Is our engineer on a
funky flashback Friday, can't wait to see how DP digs
in the crates. Patrick our producer, feeling in for Rob
g What's up? Patrick? What's up? Guys? Patrick? Splendo? Hey, Pat,
(04:06):
how you doing? And of course mister Steve the Sega.
Steve is at the anchor desk. He'll keep us updated
throughout the program on what's happening. And of course Elijah
is our social media guru, one of the best in
the business, and he will be doing everything on the
social part. But let's start here. Let's start with the
NFL and Steve de Sega just hurt him. Tua just
(04:30):
got a big deal. He just got a contract extension
from the Miami Dolphins. Patrick, What is that? Four years,
two hundred and fifteen? Is that what it is?
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:42):
About to twelve one sixty seven guaranteed.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
And I'm gonna say this, I'm not speaking out of school,
but me and Chris Bussard we went at it over this.
He claimed he didn't want to pay Tua, that he
wanted to wait and see more, and I was like,
what more is there to see? Okay? What more is
there to see? Jr? The biggest thing was can he
(05:09):
stay healthy? You remember with the concussions two years ago? Right?
He played all the games last year, seventeen game, no concussion,
no issues. He played and then he had He was
in the top five in a ton of statistical categories,
including passing, yards, touchdowns, all kinds of He had an
incredible year at quarterback. Plus he put up a seventy
(05:32):
piece and we're not talking about Nuggets. We're talking about
a seventy point game in the NFL, which we hadn't
seen since I'm gonna say it, since the Louisiana Proaches
was in escrow. It had been that long. And so
this is a quarterback league. You gotta pay if you
(05:53):
don't have a quarterback Jr. You can't, you can't compete,
You're not winning anything. Do you have an issue with
the Dolphins cashing out Tua because I don't. I think
that they did what they needed to do. They hadn't
not a quarterback since Dann Marino. They've been searching for
a quarterback for twenty five years.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
I agree they needed to break the bank and pay
a tour. I had this discussion or some other radio
shows with some other guy that works here sometimes, and
he didn't think Tua should be paid in the fifty
million dollar range. And what I explained was, the Dolphins
have no choice. Like you said, Robins, a quarterback league.
(06:35):
If you think you have a guy, he's thrown for
four thousand yards, he's throwing close to thirty touchdowns. He
has weapons. Don't forget coming Alabama. Out of Alabama, they
said he was a generational player before he got hurt
fashed his back or on that play, and then the
concussions became a problem. And now he took the jiu
jitsu classes, remember, learned how to fall and roll. Obviously
(06:57):
those classes are helping because he's stay healthy. Last year
everyone said he was a concussion away from his career ending.
That's the only concern that I have. It only takes
one hit to get a concussion and for all those
previous concussions to come back and affect you adversely. But
he's been When he's healthy, he is the top ten
(07:17):
to fifteen quarterback in the league. And that offense is explosive,
like you said, and they're just getting started. Remember Mike
McDaniel's young in the game. He's the new innovative mind. Right.
He has now a tool in Tuur. He has n't
played his best ball of his career, so they have
a nice connection. Might be Daniel Tua. Then you have
Tyreek Hill, you got Jalen Waddle. I mean you even
(07:39):
got obj now right in the cut.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
And you know what I just brought it up. I
just want up to since Dann Marino retired before the
two thousand season, You ready, yep? And I said that
the Dolphins have struggled at quarterback. Twenty five players, including Tua,
have started at least one game for the Dolphins since
the turn of the century, and only one of those players,
(08:03):
Ryan Tannehill, signed a multi year extension, only one out
of the twenty five. What are you looking for? Who
are you going to get? What's your alternative? If you
could answer those questions, then then maybe you got a solution.
But if you can't. Last year, Tour led the NFL
(08:24):
with four six hundred and twenty four passing yards, set
a career high twenty nine touchdown passes, became the first
Dolphin quarterback to lead the league in passing yards since
Dan Marino in nineteen ninety two. Do you hear me?
Nineteen ninety two, and his total passing yards were third
most in the season in Dolphins history, behind Dann Marino,
(08:47):
who did it twice. So I don't understand what this like.
Oh we want to weigh I'm not so sure, not
so sure about what what's the alternative? If you don't
pay him, What are you gonna do?
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Start all over?
Speaker 1 (09:02):
They got two other players, offensive players, right, making a
ton of money. So you have a team that's ready
to win. Now. They got three offensive, skilled players making
at least seventy million in guaranteed money. So this is
about today. This is about now. It ain't a five
(09:23):
year plan.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
It's all about today. It's all about now and tur
The only knock they really have on him is his
playoff performances. But think about it. If you wait, though,
you're right, If you wait, you'll be in the same
position like Dallas and some other teams. You'll be paying
him more than fifty three million. If he throws the
forty seven hundred yards again this season, fifty three million
(09:47):
and actually takes you somewhere. Fifty three million is gonna
look like a bargain soon, especially after these next quarterback
contracts take place.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Well, let me tell you this. You know that's always
the thing. WHOA what about the playoffs? Well, yeah, what
about the player? Here's my there's so many things about
the playoffs, And no, he hasn't played well. But also,
you can't win until you win. I heard the same
stuff about a lot of players. I heard that Michael
Jordan could always a great player, doesn't make anybody better,
(10:15):
he can't win. I heard that. I'll go, I'm not
making it. I heard that about Michael Jordan. I heard
everybody told me Jason Tatum couldn't win. Jason, oh great,
regularly you play, can't they won? You don't win until
you win sometimes. And I'm just saying with Tua, I
can't look at that guy and say that he can't
(10:36):
win or he can't win a playoff game. They tried
to put that on Lamar Jackson, you know, and I
know he hasn't had that success that people want, But
you can't tell me that guy can't play and he
doesn't give you a chance. It's about can you get
a chance with these guys. That's it. Nobody's perfect. You're
not signing the guy who's already won a playoff game.
(10:57):
Here's the other thing. Jordan Love had a great playoff
game right, beat the Dallas Cowboys. He's not signed him.
Run out Okay, won a playoff game, a big playoff
game in Dallas. If that's your criteria, why didn't he
have a contract already stamped right? Because now they're saying
that's all, but it's only one one game. We don't
know yet. What you don't know, you won't know. And
(11:19):
you could sign a guy, you could wait and sign
a guy and you still won't know.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
And sometimes remember it's the quarterback that's waiting and the
team that's waiting to see how the market falls. They
probably wanted to wait to see what Tuoa got and
then they would have probably tried to slot Love somewhere
around there. Now that it's clear that two was gonna
be one of the highest paid guys in the league
with he's turned out, Yeah, you got Jared Goff making
(11:44):
fifty three, Lawrence making with fifty three. Now two of
slots in Dak's gonna be above that.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
So I think. But it's actually the three highest r
Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow making fifty five fifty five, right,
and then two were making.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Three being golf fifty three.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
So yeah, it's pretty incredible the money. But that's where
it is when it comes to quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
And it's hard to find them. It's hard to find
good quarterbacks. Let's just be honest. We say these teams
have an abundance. There's abundance of quarterbacks in the NFL.
Look trying to get by Patrick Mahomes. Rob, You're gonna
have a lot of AFC quarterbacks that do not have
championships or have what people call bad playoff losses. Right
that that Kansas City team that went to the Super
(12:36):
Bowl last year on the back of great defense in
Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
But mostly defense.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Let's just defense twenty sixty seven though they whooped up
on Miami, Right, So you know there's gonna be you
have to have the full team, but you definitely can't
win without the quarterbacks. So you have to pay them
because the stats just keep going up and up.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
And this is the NFL. Hello, listen to what they did.
This is the market. They have made this a quarterback league,
and so you gotta pay those guys. At one time,
it used to be the running backs were the featured
player on the offense. There are games go back and
look where quarterbacks through the ball twelve or thirteen times
(13:18):
a game.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
That was it.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
They just throw the ball fifty times in a game.
And so if you're throwing the ball fifty times, quarterbacks
are going to get paid. All right, I have.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
To win to do it, because Rob, how many Super Bowls.
Do you think the top ten highest paid quarterbacks in
the league have combined?
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Give me a number zero, the top ten paid? Yes, yeah,
well because Mahomes dropped the future. Mahomes took a bad
deal though, Right's should he should be the highest paid.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Ye, but it's all about the future. He has the
highest contract, just not guarantee. And it's kind of funny
you're gonna have the most money. It was a bad deal.
He should have the highest contract at all times. I mean,
if you're gonna complain about Tua, complain about Lawrence Burrow,
GoF Right, Herbert Jackson, Hurtz, Merl Watsons. None of them
(14:14):
have won yet. Yep. I mean have to invest. It's Jake.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
If you think you have a winner and you got
a guy, we just sold all the the stats and
records since Dan Marino. They've been looking for a quarterback
since two tho twenty five years. All right, we want
to hear from you Jr. And I on this unusual
we're in lockstep. We both have no issue with Tua,
but maybe you do. We want to hear from the
tour they sayers or if you agree on this, hit
(14:41):

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Man WHOA come.
Speaker 1 (16:43):

Fox is the telephone number, and we're talking about the
tour deal. Big deal, biggest deal in Dolphins history. Third
highest annual salary for a quarterback four years, two hundred
and twelve million dollars. You got a problem with it?
Where are you? Eight seven to seven ninety nine on
(17:49):
Fox in jail? I know people want to chime in
for sure.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Let's go to Marcus from Seattle. He has something to say.
Speaker 6 (17:56):
Hey, gentlemen. First of all, the Seahawks went to two
super with a guy that was making probably about eight
million year at the time. The thing is, and we
were happy to get rid of him once you wanted
forty million. How's that working out for Denver.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Well, well, let me ask you. Let me ask you
about the Rams. They went and got Matthew Stafford and
paid them a boatload of money and they won a
super Bowl. So there is no one way to do it.
Every time I hear this, you got to have a
quarterback who's not making any money. They they won, They
said f the picks and they paid everybody at gazillion dollars.
Speaker 6 (18:29):
Let me say this, so if I'm the GM, I
go up to Tour or any other quarterback and I say,
how many super Bowls you have? But Mahomes got three.
So here's what I'll make a deal. I give you
thirty five million and you if you win the super Bowl,
I'll give you a five million dollar bonus.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
That's not gonna work, though, you can't do that.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
The problem, here's the problem, is that it's a quarterback league.
Did you know this. They've turned it into a quarterback league.
They don't pay the running backs. Who are you gonna pay?
If you don't pay the quarterbacks or the running backs.
Speaker 7 (18:57):
You're never you're not gonna win. If you're overpaying that guy.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
You can't say you're not gonna win how And it's
not overpaid because ten other quarterbacks may make fifty three million.
Marcus's ten other quarterbacks that make fifty million dollars as
close to it, and none of them have won either.
Speaker 7 (19:15):
Go ahead, Yeah, you have to.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
You have to pay your car.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
I just don't understand, Like, what, what do you want
them to do? That's what they They gave Daniel Jones
forty five million. How much you gonna give Tua rights?
Speaker 6 (19:28):
You're not paid taking fifty million.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Off the top though, all right, appreciate it, We agree
to disagree.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
I just don't you know this whole funny math. It's
already funny math to it. It's not even a fully
guaranteed contract. They're telling people they shouldn't pay the quarterback
fifty million dollars. And uh, there's a baseball player who
who got seventy seventy million dollars a year.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Running back money exactly thirty five and the bonus.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
On Fox, Carl from Mobile, you're on the odd people
call for Mobile Alabama. You're on the Odd couple with
Jon Gamble and Rob Parker.
Speaker 8 (20:08):
Hey, guys, they was taking my call. I just wanted
to get in on this. Yes, the money amounts are staggering.
But it's like this, and everybody knows.
Speaker 7 (20:17):
It's just comes down.
Speaker 8 (20:18):
To one thing. You cannot go into a new season
with an unknown at the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
You can't do it. That's played in simple You're over
a barrel.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Right.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
They've structured the league that they count on the quarterback
more than anybody.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Yep.
Speaker 8 (20:33):
Absolutely So if you know that this quarterback, his stats
show that he's in the top ten, or even top
fifteen or whatever, even top twenty, if he's proven he
can go out there and win, and you can say,
and they look at that games, Look he can go
out and win us eight games, nine games, ten games.
You have to pay him because you can't just go
out there and say, well, just let anybody go out
(20:54):
there and play quarterbacks, because you know, it's just like
throwing all the rest of the money in the garbage,
because you don't you just an unknown at that position.
Speaker 7 (21:00):
You can't have it, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Thanks for the call, appreciate it eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yeah, and he's better than top twenty. He led the
league in passing. Let's go to Michael from North Carolina.
They're on the odd couple with Ron Poker and Jay
Gamble filming it for Christmassid.
Speaker 9 (21:17):
Gentlemen, how's it going doing great?
Speaker 7 (21:20):
Rob, I'm a huge fan of yours. I called in
a couple of days ago about Jordan Love.
Speaker 8 (21:24):
Not sure if you remember me.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
I do remember, and I appreciate that, and you know,
we appreciate the support to the show.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
Well, I actually agree with you on this topic.
Speaker 9 (21:32):
I think the Dolphins had to pay him. You know,
whether or not he's on a playoff game or not.
You know, he's given them some stability the last couple
of years. They really haven't had a quarterback since Dan Marino. Now,
I will tell you this when I take out of it,
Rock Party is probably a happy man today because he
(21:54):
has been to an NFC championship game and the Super Bowl.
So if you could pay two who's never won a
playoff game fifty three million, Brock Purty is gonna get
probably sixty and rightfully. So, I know you guys had
that conversational yesterday. Yep, I think you gotta pay Rock Party.
I mean, the guy is a pretty good quarterback.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
I don't The only issue I'm gonna say is that
they had they had success before he got there, and
that's what they'll use against him. I do not believe
he'll be the highest paid quarterback.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
I don't.
Speaker 7 (22:28):
They did.
Speaker 9 (22:29):
They did better than Jimmy Garoppolo.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
I get it, but I'm just saying I do. Do
you really believes gonna be the highest pai quarterback because
I don't.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
I think he'll be top two for sure.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
It won't be sixty. I mean, people don't want to
give d sixty. I wouldn't give Dak sixty. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
If brock Purty is gonna get fifty five million dollars
per year. I'm not sure they're convinced with him quite yet,
despite the playoff wins.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
All right, coming up next, we're gonna talk to Carmen
Vitally from Fox Sports. He's the NFL reporter. We'll get
into all of it is contracts, money, this, that and
the other thing with the quarterbacks joined Love still unsigned
next year probably rock Perty's turn and all that. So
we'll do that, but first let's get you caught up.
His name is mister Steve the Sega. Hello, the best
(23:18):
in the business.
Speaker 10 (23:18):
What's up, Steve, Thank you and good evening to you,
and yes, packers quarterback Jordan Love is still not practicing
until he gets a new contract. His rookie dal ends
after this season to a tog of Iloa. Entering the
final year of his rookie deal. He started every game
last season, led the league in passing yards, and the
Dolphins have given to a four year contract extension worth
about one hundred and sixty seven million dollars guaranteed.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
And Steve, I don't what choice do they really have.
I mean, I know if people won't want to be
like God gotta be perfect.
Speaker 10 (23:47):
It's all silly money, it is, I mean, right, but
does a quarterback lead?
Speaker 1 (23:50):
You got to have a quarterback.
Speaker 10 (23:52):
Best thing I've heard, and this is I think originally
from Jason Smith on the show After You, is one
day there has to be a separate salary cap for
quarterbacks because it's so key that position in that sport.
It's different than say a good starting pitcher in baseball
or your whatever. It's just it's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
But if you don't have a quarterback, your season is
almost over before second.
Speaker 10 (24:17):
We've all seen football when there's not a good quarterback there,
it's darniar, unwatchable.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
We've seen the Jets with no quarterback the last couple
of years. Right, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 10 (24:26):
And by the way, I don't begrudge any of these
guys getting money. It's a salary cap league. There's money
coming in, so there's money going and going out, so
be it great. By the way, bad news for the
Lions is kicker Michael Badgeley is out for the season
with a torn hamstring. The Patriots gave safety Jabrill Peppers
a three year extension worth up to thirty million dollars.
(24:46):
Saints defensive back Marshawn Lattimore left practice with a hip
flexor injury. The Olympics opening ceremony was today in Paris
on the River send Not in a stadium. Lebron James
and Coco go off where the flag bearers for the
US flag errors are selected by a vote of fellow
team USA Olympic athletes see in all sports. Others involved
in Paris in the ceremony today Serena Williams, Carl Lewis,
(25:10):
Rafael Nadal, and others. By the way, for US men's basketball,
the Olympic tournament starts this Sunday against Serbia. Sunday, US
women's soccer faces Germany. Each team won its opener of
the tournament three to nothing yesterday. By the way NBA
TV ratings for the regular season, it was an average
of on all the national TV games be IT, TNT, ABC, ESPN.
(25:31):
It was an average for the NBA one point five
to five million viewers. Women's soccer got one point five
million for a US Zambia game yesterday on a weekday.
Women's basketball Olympic Tournament starts for the US on Monday
against Japan. To Major League Baseball, the trade deadline is Tuesday,
the Rays have traded pitcher Zach Eflin to the Orioles
(25:52):
for three prospects.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
I'm trying to figure it out.
Speaker 10 (25:55):
You've just been waiting for that. Orioles are going up again.
That's Manny Machado and the Padres scoreless in the bottom
of the second. The Phillies acquired outfielder Austin Hayes from Baltimore.
Guardians lead at the Phillies one nothing in the bottom
of the third, Blue Jays three to one over the
Rangers in the bottom of the first. The Dodgers are
at Houston this weekend. Dodger first baseman Freddie Freeman out
(26:17):
due to a family matter.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Back to you all.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Right, Steve, appreciate it. It is the odd couple. Fox
Sports Radio broadcasting live from the tire Rack dot Com studios.
On next guest, Carmen Vitally is a Fox Sports NFL reporter. Carmen,
Welcome to the program. Say hello to JR. Gamble filling
in for Chris Bussard. How are you hi?
Speaker 11 (26:37):
There?
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Doing great? And we want to jump in so much
to talk about. Let's start with the tour deal and
we just had a conversation. I don't know what choice
the Dolphins really had. He stayed healthy, put up some
big numbers. They've been looking for a quarterback since Dan
Marino and they have their man.
Speaker 11 (26:58):
Yeah, if you see I was actually just on Speak
on FS one talking about this. If you see what
the team is like without tah I think Dave Hellman
brought it up on the show. Sixteen points a game
without Tua. With Tua twenty seven points a game. So
that is your franchise quarterback right there. This is kind
of the going right. The fact that he didn't reset
the market, I think is a wins for the Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Right, He's not the highest page. They didn't go over
the top. They put him in a spot, and I
think they gotta be happy, right yep.
Speaker 11 (27:28):
And if you if you take that even one step
further to feel better about this field, Tua only has
the eighth most and guarantees among quarterbacks right now even
with this deal. So I think that is a really
fair deal for a guy that you know that your
team cannot operate without.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
And I'm Carl when you know we have guys like
Jordan Love, Dak Prescott next year, Brock Purdy who will
be up for deals. Does this to a deal have
any effect on how that'll play out with probably Dak
and Jordan Love, who seems they that he might be
the highest paid when this is done.
Speaker 7 (28:04):
Yeah, and I think that's still true.
Speaker 11 (28:05):
I mean, like we said, Tea didn't reset the market,
So I do think that maybe this had a little
bit of an effect on the Jordan Love deal because
maybe we're going to have to wait to see a
sixty million dollar quarterback until Dak hits free agency, if
that in fact does happened. I do still think though
that Jordan Love is going to reset the market, but
now that's not going to cost as much as we
thought it might because to it didn't his contract didn't
(28:28):
supersede Joe Burrows. Now, I think that the Green Bay
Packers are not only going to bet on Jordan Love
with this new deal, but they're betting on their process.
Don't forget when they signed Aaron Rodgers in his first
year of starting. He was signed before Thanksgiving to a
six year extension. So the Packers know that this system works.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
They know this process works.
Speaker 11 (28:51):
All they needed out of Jordan Love was to see
that confirmations that this system still does in fact work,
and that he is their guy.
Speaker 7 (28:59):
Jordan Love did.
Speaker 11 (29:00):
He didn't need a whole season even to do it.
Speaker 7 (29:02):
He saw the back at what he was able to
do in the back.
Speaker 11 (29:04):
Half of last season and then take the youngest team
in the league to the Divisional round.
Speaker 7 (29:08):
So this is their guy of the future.
Speaker 11 (29:10):
He's never going to be cheaper than he is right now,
and I do think he resets the market, but I
don't think that it now begins with a six. Whereas
if you had tu up pushings before, I think you
might have seen that.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Carmen Vitali from Fox Sports, he's an NFL reporter, and Carmen,
I think on to Jordan Love, he's handling it the
right way from the standpoint of not going out there.
The Packers have had him for four years. They know
what he's his work ethic is, He's been around, you
know what I mean. And then last year he finished
(29:42):
strong and he won a playoff game. I don't know
what else you need to see. So if I'm him,
I think he's handled it the right way. I'm not
going out there. I'm not going to give a chance
of me getting hurt or something bad happening before I
get my money.
Speaker 7 (29:57):
Don't forget too.
Speaker 11 (29:58):
He already signed a team friendly deal when instead of
his fifty year option, the Green Bay Packers elected and
signed him to a two year extension that paid him
pretty meager money because he hadn't had the playing time experience.
But George Love said, I did you my favor.
Speaker 7 (30:13):
That was a favor to you.
Speaker 11 (30:15):
I bet on myself. Guess what, It's now paid off,
and I need you to pay us. So I think
he's handling it right. I also think Green Bay understands
this because they are also an organization that this isn't
the first time they've had a quarterback sit for three
years before starting. And the downside of that is that
you waste those years on his contract so that you
have to pay him without a huge sample size. But
(30:36):
that historically hasn't been an issue, going back to the
Aaron Rodgers contract when they signed him halfway through the season,
So green Bay knew this was coming. I have to
imagine that the little nuances of the deal are all
that's left, if there's even anything left to be done.
Don't forget green Bay is under no obligation to announce
this even if it is done. I have a feeling
(30:57):
is very close, if not done already, we're going to
see the announce to come out with in the next
few days, and that maybe it was the guarantees, maybe
the length of the contract. Those are the things that
we're going back and forth. But I anticipate, like I said,
Jordan Love getting market setting money because Green Bay is
banking on not only Jordan Love but their process, and
(31:17):
if they don't put set him to market setting money,
then they're gonna say WHOA. Then that means you didn't
you know, you don't draft a market setting quarterback, and
they're not gonna admit to that. So you kind of
backed yourselves into a corner.
Speaker 7 (31:29):
You get to pay him.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Yeah, Carmon, speaking of paying quarterbacks now rather than later,
how do you think Dallas and Jerry Jones are going
to get all three of their high priced players paid.
Who is somebody going to be the odd man out?
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Somebody's gotta be.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Dak. It looks like he's leaning towards Dak being that
odd man out from what he's say.
Speaker 11 (31:53):
Yeah, I mean you heard Zac say like, I'm watching
all these quarterbacks that have gone to different teams and
that doesn't scare me. It shouldn't scare him.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
All.
Speaker 11 (32:00):
The Dallas Cowboys have absolutely no leverage and this is
a monster of their own making. They could have absolutely
signed CD to an extension last year. They could have
signed Dak to an extension last year. There is no
reason that all three of your top players needed to
come wanting a contract at the same exact time. That
is just pre team building. That's poor management on the
(32:20):
part of the front office. This again is their own doing,
and Dak doesn't have to listen to it, doesn't have
to stay there, doesn't have to put up with it.
He has absolutely all the leverage, So however the Cowboys
feel about him in particular doesn't matter. He is he
has all of he can absolutely wait till free agency,
and I think you would be in his best interest
(32:41):
to do so, where the Cowboys can still be in
the mix. But now I'm going to get a bidding
war between all these different teams and get to pick
the situation I go to. So I don't know what
the Cowboys how they decide that they're going to operate.
I think they've lucked into really good quarterbacks dating back
through Tony Romo even and maybe they'll get to be
(33:03):
able to do it again. But I think they're gonna
have to roll the dice on it because I don't
know how you get all of these guys under contract
without the rest of your team suffering greatly.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
No doubt. Her name is Carmen Vitally. She is a
NFL reporter for Fox Sports. Does a great job. Carmen,
thank you so much for joining us here on the
odd couple. Thanks for the knowledge, thanks for the information,
and thanks for your energy. We appreciate you.
Speaker 7 (33:26):
Thanks carry of course anytime, guys.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Okay, appreciate it all. Right, Coming up next, the Nuggets.
They picked up Westbrook. We'll talk about that. Will that
make a difference. They've been losing players since they won
the championship, will he help them stabilize that? Plus Shekel
City will do that and much more. It is the
odd couple on a funky flashback Friday. Rob Parker and Jr.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
Welcome to Shekel City, the home base for Rob Parker's
Dalley Dicks against the scrap.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Only if I get my picks wrong. But here we
go sheckl City. Yes, indeed, all right? Best bet. Dodgers
are in Houston taking on the Astros. I'm taking the
Dodgers plus one and a half runs on the road. Also,
Washington is in Saint Louis taking on the Cardinals. I
got the Cardinals minus one and a half runs, beating
(35:37):
the Nationals and the Oakland A's. Have you seen this?
Lawrence Butler is going nuts for the A's nuts. Yeah great,
Uh these are outfielder's horn people out at the plate,
hitting like crazy, hitting bombs everything. I got the A's
minus one and a half runs. They're taking on the
(35:58):
Angels and Anna. I'm the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim.
So again, Dodgers plus one and a half runs, Saint
Louis Cardinals minus one and a half runs, and the
Oakland age favorites on the road minus one and a
half runs. And JR.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Remember that's funny.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
I'm not telling you who to bet on. I'm telling
you who I bet on.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
That's funny, Brown. I'm noticing that you just don't want
to admit that you were wrong about the Astros. But
I ain't gonna get into that right now.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
We got time for that.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
I see you picking the Dodgers and this and that
the Astros at home. You pick the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
I'm gonna keep going. I'm gonna keep going.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
I know you are.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
My take is gonna wind up being right at some point.
All right, here's another take that could wind up being right.
And Russell Westbrook has a deal now to join the
Denver Nuggets two year veterans minimum contract with a player
option for twenty five to twenty six season. The dealers
worth six point eight million dollars. This is incredible from
(36:59):
west Who's going to get into the Hall of Fame? Right,
And he's been like on eight teams in the last
eight years or what else? Seven? You know, Like, it's
a ridiculous number of teams.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Five teams since twenty nineteen, Is that what it is?
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Okay? Yeah, it is incredible. So that's five teams in
five years, right, since twenty nineteen. Yea, But here he
is I think this is fine. I think he works.
Denver has lost some Bruce Brown, you know, they've lost
some people. I think they need a play like Westbrook.
He did a good job for the Clippers.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
I need Russell Westbrook like I need a hole in
my head. Answer me this question. How come these guys
do not retire anymore? Like back in the day, guy
have a nice Hall of Fame career. You bounce around
to a couple of teams, maybe one or two at
the end, and then you realize, I'm thirty five. You know,
(37:54):
I'm getting the veterans minimum at this point. This is
like pathetic almost you're giving them props for you know,
he's making six point eight million. This is Russell Westbrook
we're talking about.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Yeah, but he is older. I got, I got that
he's not He can't command what he used to command
as a starting player. But let me just say this
to you. The Nuggets need a veteran point guard. And
you know who they lost this past year and the
spots they lost CP KCP KCP and they lost Reggie
Jackson both to free eate the free agency, So their
(38:24):
holes there. I don't know who who you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
Pick and I to shoot twenty seven percent from three.
Russell Westbrook does not fill the hole left by either
of those.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
I'm not saying he's gonna be that. I'm not saying that,
but I'm saying he provides energy, he can defend, and
he can be a starter.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
Do he disagree with that? Now you have him starting,
I said a spot starter? Oh my goodness. Russell Westbrook
to me hasn't been good in about four five years.
Yes he plays hard, Yes he has experience, but he
doesn't have championship experience. He has a lot of playoff experiences,
losing games, games that he should have won or never
(39:03):
had a chance.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
I don't look at him like that. I think you're
thinking of him on a grander scale. I'm just looking
at it from the standpoint that if you're Denver and
you've lost some bench players as well, I'm just saying
that they lost two guards.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Oh you mean, just like just scrap heat, just pull
him up.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
Just well, you need you need other players. I mean,
they keep losing players, and I don't think it's the
end of the world. I thought he did a good
job for the Clippers as a six man off the bench.
You know, once they got James harden h he changed
his role. And if he's accepting of that and he's
not going to cause any issues, I don't see a
big problem now. If he thinks he's going there and
(39:38):
he wants to be the guy was five years ago
when he was getting triple doubles every night, then I'm
with you. Then I'm like, Okay, this is ridiculous. But
he signed six point eight million for two years. That's
not a lot of money.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
Yes, some guys knowing to hang them up, That's all
I'm saying. And it seems like these days guys aren't
trying to hang him up. Russell Westbrook should definitely be
riding off into the sunset. To me, a lot of
guys used to say, you know, I want to go
out on top, right Rob, That used to be a thing.
I want to go out at the top of my game.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
He's been on five teams in five years. He's going
out on top. I mean, I think that that's the
part that's so surprising for a guy who's gonna be
a Hall of Fame. But he's been in some situations.
The Lakers situation was bad, you know, that was really
bad for him. He went to Washington. You remember they
made the playoffs, but he played there for only one year.
(40:29):
He's been bouncing around. You just hate to see a
guy of that ilk And I'm with you that you're
gonna wind up with seven teams at the end. I mean,
there's not even enough room in his mansion to hang
up all the jerseys of all the teams that he's
played for. I mean that's that that's the crazy part.
But if he feels like he come off the bench
and help a team, I don't see a big thing.
(40:51):
It doesn't cost the Nuggets a lot of money. No,
it doesn't cost the main thing. It's just kind of
embarrassing to me that he's still hanging on and maybe
he helps bring energy off the bench and maybe he
gets that elusive championship. I think it's more about him
trying to hang on and get that ring to you know,
solidify his career.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
I don't for that.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
Ain't gonna be a Hall of Famer already. I mean
we already know that. But I hear you. If you
can stay around and get a championship, there's nothing wrong
with that, all right? Coming up next the Olympics, are
they must see or Snoozeville. Where are you on the
Olympics and are they pass? We're gonna talk about that
stick and stay like the torch America
