(01:12):
You might discuss in the barbershop and that kind of stuff.
But uh JR. Let's do this for our number two,
the Olympics are upon us. The opening ceremony in the
rain in Paris, France today, and I just had a thought,
and this is a conversation. I want to get people involved.
(01:33):
I do want people to chime in if you're listening
when it comes to the Olympics. So I'm gonna throw
the number out early. We're gonna get to as many people,
and I really want you to think about this. Eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox. Where do the Olympics fit
in for you? It used to be more prevalent, more
(01:54):
meaningful to me, and as time has gone on, it
has been less.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I used to watch the ceremony. I used to watch
and make sure I saw some of the big events,
and now it's mostly I catch it on highlights or
I don't make time for it.
Speaker 6 (02:12):
Is this me?
Speaker 7 (02:14):
Is this?
Speaker 8 (02:16):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Just getting older? Do other people feel this way?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Do you feel as compelled to make time for the Olympics.
It used to be for a lot of countries, you know,
a sense of patriotism and nationalism, and you were you know,
this is our country and we beat that country and
we're the best in the world. But I think it's
(02:43):
a snooze fest. I don't think that it's nearly as
compelling or as interesting to me as it used to be.
And I could be in a minority, but I would
love to hear JR. Where you are on this and
is this musty TV for you?
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Oh, it's still mus CTV for me.
Speaker 8 (03:01):
But it's not the same as when I was ten,
Right in eighty four, Mary lou rettin no social media.
You know, this Olympics was the centerpiece of sports at
that time. It only happens every four years, and you now,
you know, close to sixty years of age. Of course
(03:21):
it's not gonna be the same and covering sports left
and right for the last thirty years, it's changed, right
this social media you can see clips of these people.
They're not the same strangers that you see any moment
you get the Olympics. It's still a lot of people
that you just discover when you get to Olympics, great stories.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
I think it has the same effect.
Speaker 8 (03:43):
It's just that we're a bit older, and as an
older person, I don't it doesn't move me the same
way when it was young. But it doesn't mean that
it's lost its luster or anything, because you got great
stories all the time. Coming out of the Olympics, people
that are gonna become future stars, has great stories coming
out the Olympics. We want to see Team USA. You
(04:03):
want to see I didn't want.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
To see the Dream Team when they were beating everybody
by seventy points. I mean I didn't. I didn't think
that was compelling at all. I mean, we should have
won like that. The only way I would be interested
in the in in the men's of the USA bas
basketball team is if they lost or they lost to
some team they shouldn't lose to. I would be interested
(04:27):
in that. And they say, how in the world. No,
I mean, that's more interesting to me than them beating
up teams that they should is all I'm saying. I agree,
so so that that part to me. The men's basketball,
I expect them to win. I expect them to win
a gold medal. I really do. The women's soccer, right,
haven't they won? Like I don't, have they not lost
(04:47):
or I mean it's.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
All they they have.
Speaker 8 (04:49):
I don't think they've They've lost a couple of times
when they should have won it. Top soccer is very competitive.
They went on a little run back near the two thousands,
but they they they lost to Japan. They had some losses,
but also in Olympics, in the World Cup.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I also think that you have at one point, I
remember NBC.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
You remember it used.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
To it used to it used to be they used
to have all kinds of uh they would rotate it
to different networks, so it wasn't all and then then
all of a sudden, NBC took it over and they
never gave it up. You remember it used to be
on one year, well four years it was on ABC
the next four years, CBS did it, then NBC, so
it was kind of different. And then once NBC monopolized it,
they started doing where they wouldn't even show you uh,
(05:31):
players from different countries. They would edit it out so
you would only see like the Americans and stuff.
Speaker 9 (05:36):
And I was like propaganda, no, but but they can't
do it anymore, right, like like do not want to
see I want to see who's the best in the
world and competition, not just because when I was living
in Detroit, you'd have to watch the CBC over there
in Canada and they had the entire Olympics.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
They weren't editing out people and and just showing you
Americans and events that people wanted to see, So I
don't know, so you're fully into it. Did you watch
the opening ceremony or you didn't watch it because you
were traveling or you know what I mean?
Speaker 8 (06:09):
Yeah, I would have definitely watched the open ceremony and
I dvr'd it and when I get home, I will
watch because you know, I had a over under or
whether or not Snoop would light up with the Olympic torch.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
So that's what that's what I was waiting for. That's
with the Olympic torch. And did he I don't know,
he didn't. I'm my disappointment. I didn't think.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
I didn't think he would. I think Snoop likes being
on mainstream America and that probably would have extra a
model some things doing that.
Speaker 8 (06:41):
But I really get so excited still rob about the Olympics,
just watching events that I haven't seen, right that I
would not watch covering sports or being in sports.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
So what are you looking forward to help me with that? Sure?
Because other than me, I'm you know, big gymnastics guy.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Big.
Speaker 8 (07:01):
Going back to Mary lourettin eighty four when she hit
the perfect ten, I was sitting in South Carolina. I
used to go there for the summer time in my
grandmother's house. They have to remember the thing that used
to catch the bugs in the Yeah, you know the
windows are open. Where in South Carolina's nineteen eighty four,
it's one hundred degrees outside.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
The A C.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
No ah, no, no, no, no a C.
Speaker 8 (07:27):
The snapper is going off and I'm sitting there enthralled
and entranced with Mary Lourettin with with the flips that
the gymnastics team.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
I'm telling you, track and field, Lewis, give me one, Moses,
give me one from.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
The last four years where you were in the same
felt the same way four years ago. What was it
for you?
Speaker 1 (07:47):
So you can't even give me one? No I can't, No,
you can't. I can I can give get I can't
go ahead deep because you don't have one I do.
Speaker 8 (07:55):
It was the women's women's swimming with Simon Manuel being
like the first black swimmer to get her medal. That
was big, and Natalie Hines and those girls Olympics swimming.
I always love the track and field, of course, I
love the track and field. Remember USA going head up
with Jamaica, the women and USA coming out on top.
(08:17):
Like if I'm recalling it correctly four years ago. But no,
it's not gonna be the same nostalgia we had a
year ago. Mark Spitz, Bruce Jenner, I get those, those
are memorable.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
How about how about get off.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
The tone of the country. And this is another thing.
You know, we're very divided this country. Let's just face
it politically and all kinds of stuff. Does that take
away anything?
Speaker 1 (08:41):
I know?
Speaker 2 (08:42):
The Olympics is supposed to be non political and you're
not supposed to make any kind of statements, and it's
supposed to just be about, uh, the the athletics and
nothing political. But what about that in the United States?
Are we in a place where even a game like
this the Olympics can't bring the country together, like people
(09:05):
don't feel as connected with each other? Or am I
missing it because I don't feel that.
Speaker 8 (09:10):
I think you're missing in a little bit. Because how
connected is America?
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Right?
Speaker 8 (09:14):
America has more people from other countries living in America
than any other country probably, so there's always been in
America since I was young. You have the people that
came from Greece, whose parents came from Greece. They're rooting
for the Greek team, but they're Americans, they also root
for the Americans. The Jamaicans in America root for the
(09:35):
Jamaican team when they're going against the Americans in track,
but they also root for America if they're playing right.
It's the nationalism is still there. You have people in
America whose parents were born in other countries who root
against America. So it's kind of hard. It's a little
different than being from a country where everybody's basically together.
(09:56):
America's never agree. Americans never agree on any and that's
the beauty of the country in my opinion. So yes,
you'll have a Czechoslovakian from America rooting for the Czechos
handball team.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
I get that, But I'm talking about just unity in
the country and where I think that it just feels
fractured to me, and I just wonder does that interfere
where people feeling good about the red.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
White and blue and where we are as a nation.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
And that's what I'm asking, Hey, Patrick, I want to
get Steve de Seger, Patrick and Alex involved as well,
and we want to hear from you two eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox Patrick, Let's talk with you
a young guy where you on the Olympics And what
does it do for you? Are you moved by it?
Did you go out of your way to see the
opening ceremony? Does it give you a sense of pride?
Speaker 7 (10:50):
So, like when I got home from I because I
worked at another job this morning. When I got home,
it was actually on in my house and my mom
had it on the living room.
Speaker 10 (10:59):
She was actively watching it.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
She was just background.
Speaker 7 (11:03):
Yeah, it was pure background, just to have the TV on.
I watched maybe a couple of minutes because I was
sitting on the couch. After sitting down, I'm like, al,
what's going Oh, and I saw the boat thing a
little bit.
Speaker 10 (11:13):
I was like, oh, that's kind of cool.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
But as far as like is it like gotta see
or as you said, early snoozeville for me personally, it's
more of a snoozeville for me. I mean I like
sports and also but like just the Olympics. Never, it
never captivated me. All right, Steve the Sega, how about you?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Steve's been covering for a long time, and Steve, you're
more in my boat. I've been caught. I just feel
like it doesn't have the same and maybe it's just
my age. So that's why I'm asking other people.
Speaker 11 (11:43):
I loved the opening ceremonies today and I didn't expect
to like it this much, but the finish of it
was very emotional, and it was, you know, France bit
off a lot, and it turned out to me not more.
They can chew. They tried a lot with this and
it actually it worked. They pulled it off. I can't
believe it. At one point they had the French soccer legends,
(12:04):
Zennidine Zidan passing the Olympic torch to Ralfael Nadal, who's
owned the French open for so many years, and then
Nadal takes the boat with Nadiya Komenich and Carl Lewis
and Serena Williams and so on. This same river send
that was used to have all the boats of the
delegations the various Olympic teams over two hundred countries in
(12:24):
the Olympics going down the river this three and a
half miles or so. A stadium was not used. And
then when they finally had a sit down part for
the brief IOC speech at the end and that kind
of thing, it was a makeshift stadium outside the Eiffel
Tower with a stage down the middle that was shaped
like the Eiffel Tower, and then at the end Selene
beyond actually singing at the Eiffel Town right.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Okay, so you still enjoy it, and today was trying.
Speaker 11 (12:50):
I am unapologetically a sports fan. I will never apologize
for that, which means every year I watched the Wimbledon final,
which the Olympics, World Cup, World Series East whatever.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Okay, Alex, where are you? I know you're not the
biggest sports fan, but the Olympics cho or bigger than
just your average sports thing.
Speaker 12 (13:09):
I would say probably close to Steve level. I'm a
sports fan, right, Steve.
Speaker 6 (13:13):
Yes, that's just about the same. You know.
Speaker 12 (13:15):
I have a little bit of a different take. I
think the reason why Rob you might not be as
fascinated with the Olympics, and many people aren't, is because
back when those were so prominent, the world was a
lot more distance from each other. So, for example, I
think social media, Internet and et cetera has brought us
so close to the world it's almost like we don't
appreciate what it is anymore. Where it was supposed to
be people from all around the world coming together and
(13:37):
competing at sports at the highest level possible, but in theory,
now we see it almost every day.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Sports, it doesn't have the same effect.
Speaker 12 (13:43):
It just doesn't feel like it's as majestic. So for example,
we're in California, right, so we have Disneyland here. I've
seen families when I'm there. They're literally in a winter wonderland.
But to me, it's like, what time are we leaving?
Because I have it every day, you know, I just
feel as the world concept, since it's gotten so much smaller,
it's just not as ma sick anymore. And it's probably
a big reason why the World Cup seems to be
kind of deflating as well, because number one we sack
(14:05):
as the US. But it's just it seems like everything's
just too close now at our fingertips.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
All right, we want to hear from you there.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
It is eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight
seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Speaker 1 (14:17):

Speaker 2 (14:17):

Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
The Olympics. Must see or Snoolsville? Where are you Jr?
People I know want to jump in?
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Yeah, definitely not Snoosville. Justin from Tucson.
Speaker 8 (17:14):
You're on the odd couple with Rob Parker and John
Gamble filling in for Chris Bruce Soon tell him how
exciting it you guys?
Speaker 1 (17:20):
I saw justin? How are you?
Speaker 15 (17:23):
Hey, guys, I'm good. Thanks for taking my phone call.
You know, I watched the opening ceremony and I love
the pageantry. I love like when when the world comes together.
I think that's the wonderful thing. I wish there were
other things that could bring the world together like that.
That said, there's only probably a handful of events that
I'm going to tune into basketball, the track and field,
(17:44):
the swimming, and part of it for a guy like
myself in his mid forties is, you know, we The
Olympics in recent years has tried to cater to a newer,
younger crap by bringing in certain types of sports at
the expense of other sports. Specifically, I think the big
one that everybody's talking about this year is break dancing, right,
but we don't. We no longer have baseball, back softball,
(18:05):
back karate, things that are objective, right. I don't understand,
you know, I'm not saying break dancing or no.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
I know what you mean.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
I get it.
Speaker 16 (18:13):
Yeah, but it's not.
Speaker 15 (18:14):
But there's a subjectivity level to it that for me, like,
that's how I like my sports. So I'll be tuning in.
I think it's great, But some of the sports, I
think it's getting a little too bloated. It's a little tuniche.
I think you go back to the things that are objective.
You got to score, you know who wins. You run
fast or jump farther, right, those are the things I
think are measurables.
Speaker 17 (18:33):
All right.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
I appreciate that, and I hear you that has changed
the events they've done all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Yeah, gymnastics.
Speaker 8 (18:42):
Anything you have to score, they have had they have
events where you have to score.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine.
Speaker 8 (18:48):
On Fox, Mike from Austin, you're on the odd couple
with Rob Poker and the Gambler's.
Speaker 16 (18:57):
Rod and the Gambler.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
What's up.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
How are you, Mike?
Speaker 16 (19:00):
I'm great, Thanks for having me. I really enjoyed the show.
Thank you, Rod the Gambler's right, man. We got to
get you motivated for this Olympics.
Speaker 18 (19:07):
Brothers.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
All right, I'll just tell me you so you're into it.
You're all in?
Speaker 16 (19:12):
Oh yeah, because every every time you have Olemis, you've
got athletes who have trained, the had years to represent
the presidents themselves and represent their country. So it's very exciting.
Even I'm like the guy I was talking about the
pasantry of the opening ceremony like Paris. Let me go,
let me go back to my further when Magic Johnson
and the Dream King played during the open ceremony were
(19:33):
gonna have the ceremony, it looks like I had a
born are at the end of it and shout it
up to the toted the light over the.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Year and the only the only one that the only ceremony.
I'm gonna admit the opening ceremony that really meant something
to me. I'm gonna be honest, Mohammad, because when you
think about Muhammad Ali standing in the country right, being
a draft dodger and all the other stuff that that
for him to be lighting the Olympic torch was just
(20:02):
to me, was a.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Full circle moment.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
How you went from that being hated to being you know,
representing the country and that that to me. I still remember.
And he had the Parkinson's and it wasn't, you know,
pretty right, But it meant a lot to me. So
I appreciate the call. Thank you.
Speaker 8 (20:20):
Mike Ye eight seven seven ninety nine. On Fox, we
have Mark from Sacramento. You're on the odd couple with
Rob Parker Jr. Gamble Olympics Thumbs up or down? What's
going on?
Speaker 17 (20:34):
Thumbs up? And what's going on? Rob? I thought a
buggy twice in a row since it's been a while.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
No, it's good man, it's good to hear your boys.
Speaker 17 (20:40):
Thank you real quick. I love the Olympics, and I'm
going to give you a quick historical historical reason. Why
give me a second. I'm old enough to go back
and remember and we talked about John Carlos and Tommy Smiffle.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
For sure, nineteen sixty eight.
Speaker 17 (20:55):
Yeah, but also in that six Steple Olympics, we said
nine we won nine goal middles and set fireworld records,
including that two hundred meters and put their minutes.
Speaker 19 (21:04):
Two hundred meters. Bob Beaman almost jumped out of the
pit at twenty nine two.
Speaker 17 (21:09):
From that point we.
Speaker 19 (21:10):
Go to seventy two, we lose the basketball game to Russia.
That these so I'm following all this stuff. Seventy six
we saw that great boxing team that.
Speaker 17 (21:18):
Has sugar at Leonard. Yep.
Speaker 19 (21:19):
We get to eighty wee Boycott, and then we get
to eighty four and I had a chance to see
the last great I think amateur basketball team in eighty
four with Bobby nine. I saw Michael Jordan and Patrick
Ewning and Chris Mullen and Wayne Mintiseo was on that
team in eighty four. And then you get to eighty
eight and the late great Brawnze Griffith joined us. So
(21:41):
the Olympics brought that to me. It brought that to me.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Yeah game or something, Yeah, you get me that, But
of late, to me, it just doesn't feel the same.
And I hear what you're saying. All those moments I remember,
but you're talking about stuff that happened in.
Speaker 19 (21:55):
The eighty You can still find.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Them time now, I know, I know, but those are
those are big ones. All of those you're just talking
about from sixty eight to eighty eight. I mean, that's
still twenty some odd years ago. And that's what I'm
talking about.
Speaker 19 (22:10):
But I'm saying, live long enough again, We live long
enough to know that moments a made in time.
Speaker 17 (22:14):
We win a new time.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
But give me give me something Mark, give me something
from from two thousands.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
You got, give me something from the two thousands.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
You got, you got a memory from the two thousands,
from the two thousands.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
Yeah, Like, see, that's what I'm trying to say.
Speaker 19 (22:28):
Okay, here, here's what I'm saying. From from then, we
went through the drug that the Carl Lewis b Jumpon's
drug thing kind of kind of took some of that
stuff out of the Olympics.
Speaker 17 (22:37):
We had to get past that.
Speaker 19 (22:38):
That took two Olympics to get to that drug stuff,
and that kind of really messed it up. But I
think we're beyond that, and I'm gonna give you a
person to watch real quick. She's a star. Watch Sydney MacLaughlin,
Veroni one hundred meet her. But she's a star.
Speaker 17 (22:52):
She's great. I think you should watch there.
Speaker 19 (22:54):
Okay, steps on the track, she's good.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
We appreciate that, Mark, Thank you. Can we squeeze in
one more real quick, Real quick?
Speaker 3 (23:00):
J R?
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Who we got?
Speaker 1 (23:02):
We got Quintez from Las Vegas? You got? You got
one minute? Quintez? What's up?
Speaker 2 (23:06):
What you got?
Speaker 7 (23:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 18 (23:08):
I just wanted to say that I agree with you
to an extent. Even though I'm a little younger. I'm
only twenty eight. I do on'tly remember, like I don't
have anything to base the events off of. So a
lot of the times when I watched the Olympics, it
was mainly like Michael Phelps winning back to back or
you saying Moe winning back to back. So my whole
thing we're watching the Olympics is just seeing that greatness
(23:29):
continued right far a significant events. Yeah, I don't think
there's gonna be anything like that coming forth. So I
can see why you don't while you're not interested in
the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Yeah, you know what, I'm still I've seen some great
moments and whatnot, like even the basketball now, I expect.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
Them to win.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Really, are they not gonna win? I do expect them
to win.
Speaker 8 (23:50):
And it's sixteen year old Quincy Wilson wins in the
four hundred meters relay team. That's gonna be a huge story,
of course, the sixteen No doubt all right, thanks Quinzi, Yes,
no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
All right? Coming up next, Mark Funky Colemadina with some
NBA stuff. He's around the corner. Be first, let's get
you caught up with mister Steve de Saga. He's at
the anchor desk. What's up, Steve?
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Hello again.
Speaker 11 (24:15):
The Olympics opening ceremony was today in Paris in the rain.
Lebron James and Coco Goff with the flag bears for
the US. Speaking of Lebron, the only other USA basketball
players ever to be flag bears before today were Dawn
Staley and Sue Byrd for the US men's basketball team.
The Olympic tournament starts this Sunday against Serbia. We'll see
when Kevin Durant finally starts to play.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
He didn't blacklice.
Speaker 11 (24:38):
He did practice with Team USA starting a week ago,
but he missed all five exhibitions. Five and zero was
the US record. He had been out for about two
weeks with a strained calf. US men defeated Germany and
their exhibition finale last Monday in London. US women's soccer
faces Germany on Sunday. US Women's basketball Olympic tournament starts
for the Americans. On Monday, the Den Nuggets signed Russell
(25:01):
Westbrook one year plus a player option. The Miami Dolphins
gave quarterback two a tongue of I Looa a four
year contract extension worth about one hundred and sixty seven
million dollars guaranteed. John Rahm leads the live golf event
in the UK by two strokes after a first round
sixty three to Major League Baseball. The trade deadline is Tuesday.
The raised delt pitcher Zach Efflyn to the Orioles for
(25:23):
three prospects. The Phillies acquired from Baltimore outfielder Austin Hayes.
It was an All star last year, wasn't he that
he was? He was the starter I believe in the
al center field. The Orioles go to the sixth inning
with a two to nothing lead over the Padres. The
Raiser tied with the Red Steal to two in the
top of the seventh. Twins lead a Detroit eight to
(25:43):
two in the bottom of the seventh. Guardians ahead at
Philadelphia three to one in the top of the seventh.
The Phillies record this year sixty four and thirty eight.
The Mets got an early Grand Slam from J. D.
Martinez and now lead the Braves eight to two, bottom
of the fourth, or what's left of the Braves, we
should The Blue Jays lead the Rangers four to three
in the bottom of the fourth. The Yankees tied at
(26:05):
the Red Sox three to three, bottom of the fifth.
Dodgers are scoreless in the second at Houston, LA. First
baseman Freddie Freeman is out due to a family matter.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Back to you all right, thank you, Steve. It is
the couple on a Funky Flashback Friday, Rob Parker and JR.
Gamble in for Chris Bussard, coming to you live from
the tire rack dot Com Studios. Now, let's welcome in
Mark Funky Cole Madina. Let that music breathe, Let it breathe,
(26:33):
Come on, no doubt and uh Mark of course is
a Fox Sports Radio NBA insider, say hello to j R.
Gamble j R.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
Good to talk to you, Rob, good to talk to
that same music, and you know what, I'll put it
out there. It's almost up there with Celine DeAnza performance.
Speaker 17 (26:53):
Though.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Steve Sega brought that up on how great it was.
Let's talk about the Olympics. Let's start there and expectations
and then give us an update. Will Kevin Durant really
play or will wind up pulling him back? I know
we practiced for a first time, but what do we
expect from the men's Olympic basketball team.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
Well, the US has got to win gold. If they
don't win gold, it's a disappointment, even when you account
for the fact that the international game has grown, that
are competition. On certainty about Kevin Durant's health, they got
to win gold. They had their best players available and
that's the expectation. Now as far as Kevin Duranco's not
definitive whether he plays against Serbi on Sunday, but it's
(27:33):
my expectation that he will because it's finally the beginning
of group play. It's no exhibitions. But he didn't play
at all during these exhibitions a right calf injury, they
say at day today, but you just never know. But
I think he will play, but it'll be one of
those things where I don't think that there's going to
be an integration process from a production standpoint, because it
(27:56):
Kevin Durampa. I want to be surprised. That's a minute
restriction just so they don't take any chances and they
allow Kevin to get his rhythm a little bit.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
Mark.
Speaker 8 (28:06):
I don't think there's too many people that think the
US actually is not going to win the goal. If
you remember back in Tokyo, they did drop a game
to France and then they ran rough shot from there,
so they have to miss talent. But do you think
that Steve Kerr should be under fire for the decisions
he's made? Should he have the second team playing instead
(28:27):
of the first team with the older guys, they seem
to always get down early, they lose. It'll be on Kerr,
particularly with Joel Embiid still starting, against a lot of
people's wishes.
Speaker 5 (28:39):
Yeah, Steve Curs certainly isn't blameless, but it's hard for
me to criticize rotations with a team that's all future
Hall of famers. Like, regardless of combinations, they should be
able to win it out every quarter. I think Lebron
James and Steph Curry they should be keeping their starting
spots no matter what. I do get the criticism with
(29:01):
Joe Embiid. You know, he had I think a rough
slide at the beginning with adjusting the way the whistle
is and just being consistent and finding his rhythm. But
I do get the thought process one he has shown
improvement to. You know, when you look at the Feeble
World Cup shortcomings last year, you know they didn't have
enough size and they wanted to combat that because they
(29:22):
need that in the FEVA game. And also they know
that Anthony Davis and bam Adebayo are very versatile bigs
that can stretch the floor and bring a different identity
off the bench. But I do I think take issue
with the hockey style type of rotations that Steve Kerr
has had where he empties the bench at once instead
(29:43):
of integrating guys slowly like you would in a normal
NBA game. But I think the big picture that you know,
if TBUSA is going to win or lose, it has
to do with the health, and it has to do
with the players. Again, I'm not going to say Steve
Kurr is blameless, but these are the best of the
best of the players and that should be enough, regardless
(30:04):
of who's starting, who's not, and what would their rotations
look like.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
All right, let's go to Russell Westbrook. He signs a
deal to join the Denver Nuggets. So it's a two
year veterans minimum contract with a player option in twenty
five twenty six, six point eight million dollars.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
They've lost a few guards.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Is this a good fit for this guy to come
off the bench with some energy and whatnot.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
Yeah, it's a good fit given the context. They're not
signing Russell Westbrook to the kind of contract that he
got when he was with the Oklahoma City Thunder and
in his prime, so it's a low risk. It's circumstanced.
The Nuggets have lost a lot of key role players
in the past two offseasons. Last offseason with Bruce Brown
and Thish Smith, his past off season with Conavious Colwell
(30:48):
Pope and Reggie Jackson. So they need more batch reinforcements
to make life easier for Nikola Jokat, Shamal Murray, Michael
Porter Junior, and Aaron Gordon. But I think with this
Russell Westbrook will be successful if he's only coming off
the bench. Any idea that now he's going to be starting,
that's just going to disrupt things. So my outlook is this.
(31:10):
I think he can be a good addition in the
regular season because he can make life easier for the starters.
He can give them a jord of energy coming off
the bench. But in the playoffs I have my question marks.
Even with the Clippers better roster than the Lakers, they
would support him a lot more than the Lakers did.
He did not play a lot of minutes in the
playoffs because he was gaining foul trouble or he was
(31:32):
showing his weaknesses with his shooting. And so I think
it is a good move for the regular season the
playoffs to have my questions, But with the Nuggets, they
should be relying on their championship corps during that time anyway.
So it doesn't solve all their problems. It's not a
missing championship piece, but at least addresses their need to
have some depth.
Speaker 8 (31:53):
Sure, Mark, I don't think it solves any of their problems.
But speaking of Joker, do you believe that Serbia will
be the team that will give Team.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
USA his hardest run.
Speaker 8 (32:04):
They ran rough shot over them last time, but you
saw how Sudan and Germany and Australia also played them.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Who's the toughest match for you for the Team USA.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
Yeah, it wouldn't be Serbia, not just because of the
fact that Team USA you know, ran them off the
floor in exhibition play. But outside of nikoley Jokic, they
don't have a lot of guys. I think Germany is
one of their main threats. I mean, they have experience
playing against them. You know, Denis Schroeder is a great competitor,
show as Franz Wagner. But I think when you look
at Team Canada, they're they're the team to really pay
(32:39):
attention to because they got a lot of good NBA
players across the board. With Shay Gilgess Alexander, it starts
with him, He's obviously a star with Oklahoma City, but
they have some good defenders with Lou Dort and Dylan Brooks,
And you know, I think that we've seen with Dylan
Brooks he can't get into Lebron James's head, but he
can be at least be physical with the whole roster.
(32:59):
But I think he's one of the most underrated defenders
in the NBA. I mean, he's very physical, he fights
through screens, he knows how to really embrace that matchup
with a really talented score. So I think if it's
going to come down to a potential upset or even
a team that can at least challenge them in the
gold medal match, it's going to be Canada last thing.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
Mark. If you're a team owner and you have some
of these guys embiid lebron A d Kevin Durant, aren't
you are you holding your breath about them playing in
the Olympics given their you know, injury history. You know
already the Clippers, you know had Kawhi there and then
(33:43):
he had to bow out. I mean that's the part
that is scary.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
I think, yeah, it's always a fair question. I think
every team, no matter what they say publicly, is holding
its breath with their players when they play in either
the Feeble World Cup or the Olympics. But they're never
going to tell a player not to participate because it
has a lot of meaning for them with just representing
your country win a gold medal. Does a lot of
(34:09):
things for endorsements, but I think the broader scope of things,
the NBA recognizes that the Olympics helps them. I mean,
the Dream Team is exhibit a of that where that
really helps spur the international growth and that continues to
this day. So there's an ultimate trickle down effect that
the Olympics are a huge thing that help drive that
(34:29):
international growth even more and that ultimately benefits the NBA.
I think it really just concerns teams even more where
they might feel the need to interject if a player
is nursing a serious injury. I think Kevin Durant could
be an example with this, And then when you mentioned Kawhi,
I don't have evidence telling me. This is just my
(34:49):
own thoughts and speculation. No matter what the Clippers say publicly,
I'm sure they're breathing a giant gasp of relief that
Kawhi Leonard isn't on.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
The team out about it. His name is Mark Funky,
Cole Medina. Thank you for your knowledge or insight and
your energy, my man, have a great weekend.
Speaker 5 (35:11):
Mark, I appreciate you. Guys enjoyed it, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (35:15):

Ain't nobody's sniping a bomb shop?
Speaker 17 (36:34):
You know that?
Speaker 3 (36:35):
Ain't nobody is you talking about? Whoever? Whatever? Whatever you want?
Speaker 1 (36:39):
You know, a barber shop for twenty eight shop telling facts.
Speaker 7 (36:43):
That's right, everybody, it is shop talk and Robin Jr.
We're gonna be talking a little bit of some talk
on some not so much sports here. We're actually gonna
go into something. And you know what, since we got
JR gamble here, we're actually gonna go into something. I'm
gonna call this a little more of a is this
more of a foul or fan type thing? Since we've
got JR?
Speaker 8 (37:02):
Here?
Speaker 7 (37:03):
So, guys, here's the here's the here's the thing. Right now,
there is a bar in the South that is actually
going viral for showing their laundry list of left open
tabs and they are automatically charging all their left open
tabs a twenty percent in gratuity.
Speaker 10 (37:22):
Is this a foul or fair move for you? Jr?
And rob.
Speaker 8 (37:29):
They're leaving tat Can you see nobody's saying that they're
charging if you if you open up a tab with
a credit card.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Yeah, they're automatically adding a twenty percent tip to your
to your.
Speaker 10 (37:39):
Bits, automatically twenty percent gratuity in that I.
Speaker 8 (37:43):
Would expect that that happens, maybe not that much, but
that happens. So I guess that's that's fair. No, twenty
percent are you getting me?
Speaker 1 (37:51):
That's fair? Let me tell you something. This is America.
You gotta get what you can. It is ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
I'm gonna tell you this as a guy who buys
drinks for people I refuse when they use your credit
card and they'll have like what the tips should be
on the This ain't a meal.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
You can just tell you you didn't bring up. You
didn't bring it to my table.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
When I buy drinks, I might leave a couple of
dollars or a five dollar bill right as a tip.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
I don't give you twenty percent on drinks on food service.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Yes, I'm giving you a twenty percent gratuity to pass
a drink over the bar.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Absolutely not.
Speaker 8 (38:28):
We're still recovering from COVID. Bro I don't care. I
know that would be my excuse drinks mix up for
the for the all the money we lost during COVID.
Maybe if we get you know, back in the out
of the red, we can start a lowering.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
That you ain't buying drinks for nobody, because twenty percent
is ridiculous. When you buy a drink and you go
get a ten or twelve dollar beer. Right, you leave
a dollar, You leave a dollar for a drink. If
I buy three drinks, I leave five dollars.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
It's not only twenty percent. Just don't leave the tab open.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
No, but I'm just saying the idea that they want
you to pay a twenty percent alex.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
If you want them to babysit your credit card, yes,
I need twenty percent for that. No, I would say,
I'm not paying twenty percent alex. This is our wage.
Speaker 12 (39:17):
You pay after pocket. Then that's insane. So you tell me,
because of the economic state, Jr.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
I have to pay for it, right, You don't. You
don't have to leave your tab open.
Speaker 8 (39:28):
I don't think it's a twenty percent surcharge if you
pay out your pocket or you pay right there.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
Right.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
No, but they don't have a right to add twenty
percent drinks.
Speaker 6 (39:36):
They may easier.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
I have to pay.
Speaker 6 (39:40):
I have to keep thinking if I paid for everything right.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
Look, we make nim trying to make up for the
money they lost during COVID. I that you can make
it up or not on me?
Speaker 2 (39:48):
Not on hey?
Speaker 1 (39:50):
I mean Patrick City a dream, Patrick Barry, young God.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
When you go to a bar and you buy a drink,
if they bring me a drink, I'll give him a
dollar tip, maybe too, depending on how much the drink is. Yes,
to pass me a drink, you know, I give twenty
percent for somebody who gets my takes my order, goes
to the kitchen, whatever brings it out. Hey, I need butter,
I need this, I need take it. Twenty percent. Yeah,
(40:18):
but a dollar tip on a drink. And if he serves,
if he serves two hundred drinks that night, that's two
hundred dollars in his pocket.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
How many drinks?
Speaker 8 (40:26):
How much did you pay for the bar for drinks
the bartender for drinks back in nineteen ninety six?
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Dollar because yes, but the door, but the drinks dollars
and I still left a dollar back.
Speaker 7 (40:40):
Then you can't do that, Yes you can. No pat
you you guy, you're giving that much money. I what's
funny is I kind of I think both your arguments.
But if I had to pick a side theory, I actually, honestly, JR.
I actually like it because of the whole don't leave
your te then just don't leave the tab open if
you don't like if if it's an unopened tab and
(41:01):
all that stuff. I'm with like RAB but like in
this case, like yeah, I like to be tracking my
money anyways, so like I would never never leave it open.
Speaker 10 (41:10):
I'd be like constantly doing it anyway. So that's just
put my mantra, and.
Speaker 8 (41:13):
I gotta watch your credit card exactly this stuff, you know,
it's a lot.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
It's a lot, all right, odd couple final hour of
the programs coming up. These guys are throwing around money.
Obviously they don't have anything. It's the odd couple stick
and staying to watch my credit card. Crazy
