Speaker 3 (00:24):
Parties you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Welcome man our number two on a Magic City Monday. Indeed,
Rob Parker, Martin Weiss in for the vacation in Chris Bussard.

(00:53):
dot Com The way tire buying should be coming up
bottom of the app. Chris Rose, hosts of the Chris
Rose Rotation and Baseball Today MLB podcast. He'll join us
talk to Major League Baseball, but Martin Weiss, we are

(01:15):
gonna turn our attentions to football. The NFL preseason games
are underway, as we know, not very exciting for the
most part, but they are. You know, you gotta get
the work in. Justin Fields had a pretty pretty good
start there for the Steelers, except for he had a
couple of fumbles which didn't go over well with his coach.

(01:38):
Can't turn the ball over, you know that, he's a
big turnover machine. But anyway, Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, they're
both there. People thought it's gonna be all about Russell Wilson,
and then all of a sudden they make a trade.
They get Justin Fields for nothing, absolutely nothing. But he's
on the team. He's a young guy, got a lot
of ups start, and Martin Weis thinks he should be
the starting quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
You're all in on Justin Field.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
I mean, well, to say I'm all in makes it
seem like I'm betting that it'll work. But if you
have the options, though, I mean, let's be honest, neither
one of these are great options, right, like having asparagus
or broccoli, you know both neither Your third grade.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Is not gonna like either one.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
But if I had to make the choice between these
two guys, like the Steelers have to do to me,
the answer is clearly far and away Justin Fields.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
If for no other reason.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
He's younger, he's more athletic, and if he hits, you
have a franchise quarterback. Russell Wilson can go out there
and play the season of his life, his best season
he's ever played. And you know, you got at most
two more seasons out of them, three more.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Seasons out of them.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Justin Field's go out there and you figure out a
way to tap into some of the potential that everybody
saw leading up into this draft, or leading up into
his draft class where he was picked. Then you actually
have a shot to have a guy for the next
five six years that can lead your team. And when
you look at a guy like Justin Fields, no one
is saying, Look, especially with what the Steelers are trying
to do, you go with our ter Smith.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
He's gonna want to run the ball.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
It's gonna be a lot of playoffs, it's gonna be
a lot of bootlegs, it's going to be a lot
of things where it really helps to have an athletic quarterback.
And Russell Wilson just strains his cat pushing a tackling sled.
Should he have been pushing a tackling sled, of course not.
He's a quarterback. When was the last time he saw
Russell Wilson on the lead block. I'll answer for you
it's never. But the reality of the situation is, we
look at Russell Wilson and me graduated from high school

(03:23):
the same year.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I ain't got no business being an NFL quarterback.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Honestly, if you look at the last two seasons he
had in Denver, he don't look like he had any.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Business being a NFL played pretty well.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
He played so well that Sean Payton, the guy who
knows Payton hated him before he got him.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Before quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
He's won one super Bowl with the Hall of Fame quarterback,
A quarterbacks or no, no, he had so Sean Payton
know nothing about quarterbacks. Four losing seasons, hall of Fame quarterback.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
So you know you're telling me Sean Payton does not
It's not a good at quarterback e valuation.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
All I'm telling you is that you're giving him way
too much credit. And what he did to Russell Wilson
was ridiculous, unprofessional, and he hated.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Him from the minute he walked in the door. He
played well last year.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Stop stop no, Russell Wilson, He's did too under what
metric Besides, he played in the ratio?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Did he played well last year? Was trying not to
know the idea that Russell Wilson played well? First of all,
it's the fallacy. But I'm gonna leave that there. You're
telling me that Sean Payton don't know what he's doing
when he come to quarterback.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
No, I just told you they have four losing seasons
with with a a what a a Hall of Fame quarterback?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Didn't they They were seven and.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Nine like four years they won one super Bowl under
that everybody.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Everybody says Mike McCarthy's no good.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton, go look at their They're
identical their records almost.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
I never said a guy who won thirty six games
in the last three years is no good.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
But a lot of people don't respect Mike McCarthy. I
respect both. They both know.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
And you look at Mike McCarthy with Dak Prescott. Dak
Prescott was running up for m VP this year. I
think he knows the thing or two about quarterback ball
runner up. He only was that there was no one
first place vote? Is that it would you call that runner? Yeah?
That's why was you come in second, you're the runner around.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
I don't think it's a real runner up when the
other guy got almost all.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Quite literally by definition, mister, the definition of clutches day.
If you're coming second, you're the runner up. All right,
that's just the way it works. If we can establish
that fact that maybe we can.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Told you a million times. Loud doesn't make you right,
but quiet doesn't make your right either.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Sean Payton was so ready to move on from Russell
Wilson he spent eighty five million dollars to send him away,
to send him away.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Like right, Like what more do you need? Like? That
is it? People make mistakes? Do front office people make
mistakes on people? Yeah, the mistake was trading for Russell Wilson.
The mistake you're.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Fanning all over justin Fields, Okay. Since joining the league
in twenty twenty one, Fields is last among thirty eight
qualified quarterbacks in fourth quarters interceptions. That's sixteen, thirty six
in completion percentage fifty six point two, and thirty third
in quarterback When this is the guy you got your

(06:09):
panties in a bunch over last season through week seventeen
before a player started the rest for week eighteen, Fields
ranked last in the NFL and fourth quarter completion percentage
fifty one point eight, twenty fifth in yards per TENP
five point nine, tied for twenty ninth, and fourth quarter
interception six and thirtieth in QBR twenty point four.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
That's your guy. Who was that about week seven? That's
your guy.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Oh wait, justin Field, that's your guy in week seventeen,
that's Russell Wilson was banished to.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
The dog one bench. But that's your guy. You're making
a big, your big stink about like ston Field. Like
I said, if I had to choose either onond of them,
I'd rather neither.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
But forced with this decision, asparagus or broccoli, give me
the broccoli. That justin Field, who's going to be the
starting quarterback on that team? Martin Wise, you can see
here all day and talk about what you want. I'm
asking you justin Field, he's not going to be the
starting quarter justin Field will be the Justin.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Field will start for games this season, and Russell.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Will wandn't ask you that who's gonna be the starting
quarterback of this season?

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Just staron Fields is what I just start the season.
Justin Field. I mean, anybody who's the start of Week one.
I'm talking about who's the start of all?

Speaker 1 (07:12):
He's going to be the starting quarterback when the season
starts on week starting quarter I'm asking Steelers next year,
then I'm asking you who's the starting quarterback of the
Pittsburgh year next year?

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Russell Wilson. Stop it.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Russell will stop it. He's gonna play two years there.
Justin Fields is a turnover machine. That's why he's not
with the Bears. The players tried to convince us, oh, don't.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Trade Justin Field.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Oh my god, look at oran his butthetially you didn't
have anybody around him. They couldn't get him out of
town fast enough. They could not get it. And look
at the opportunity to replace what Steelers they traded for him.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Nobody wanted Justin Fields.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Everybody needs a quarterback, so half the league needs a quarterback.
We got nothing for him zero So they actually so
actually that's not true, because they traded a sixth round
pick that could turn it tow us for sex round pick.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Mind me, remind me of six pickbo to be a
franchise quarterback. Remind me, though, what was the deal for
Russell Wilson? He comes with a big contract. What was it?
What was the feel? What was the deal for Russell Wilson?

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Field, I'm asking you what was the deal for Russell Wilson,
because I'll tell you what the deal was for Russell Wilson.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
If you don't want to listen, I'll tell you what
it was. This is what it was. Anybody in the
NFL could have signed him. Anybody in the NFL could
have signed him. And the Pittsburgh Steelers are paying him
less than the Detroit Lions are playing Hendon Hooker right now.
Anybody in the NFL because the massive bidding war for
Russell Wilson never happened.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
He got his money, He already got money.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
But I'm talking talking about what I'm saying, it's already
paid you.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
What are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (08:47):
So he could have taken he could have taken more
money to go elsewhere. Why a team money that was
already set there for So would you rather have eighty
six million dollars coming to you or eighty nine million
dollars coming to you?

Speaker 2 (09:00):
That's why what are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (09:02):
I'm talking about that nobody else in the NFL wanted
to offer Russell Wilson a contract of note, which is
why the Pittsburgh Steelers are paying him less than half
the backups in the NFL this year. But nobody would
have to nobody in their right mind, why he already
he's getting his money, Because if there was, because if
there was a bidding war for his serviced war, if

(09:23):
there was a bidding war for his services, right, if
people actually had to give anything up for him, no
one was willing to do it.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
The New York Giants were not willing to do it.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
What's the age difference between Russell Wilson and your guy
Justin Fields, your messiah?

Speaker 2 (09:37):
At least eleven years? But I'm not saying just you
keep you keep, No, he just Fields Messiah. I'm not
saying I have never once said that.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
What I'm telling you, they couldn't even get more young
player who still hasn't even scratched the surface. Probably got
more there, right, maybe, but nobody wanted to take a
flyer on a young quarterback who was supposed to be
a French quarterback.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
They got a sixth round draft pick. Yes, sixth round
picks start in this league all the time. It's a
sixth round pick that could turn into a fourth throw
pick depending on how much he plays.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
That is a tangible item, That is a thing. That
is a thing. You can't just poo pull a sixth
round pick. Who you know, Uh, Chicago man drafted the
next time Brady with that sixth round. And here's the
other reason why you already know why teams wouldn't do that,
because it's the offsetting contract. And no team is gonna
help the Bronco. So if you sign him, the more

(10:32):
money that's gonna offset the money from the Bronco. So
you're not gonna help the Bronco.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
Who cares about helping the Broncos about helping yoursell You don't.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
You don't do it. That's the problem with his time
of Falcons.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Russell Wilson, who was a healthy at the end of
the year and said, you know what, Kirk Cousins, I'd
rather give you one hundred million dollars guaranteed third a
year older with no achilles tendon.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
He was a free agent. Though, what are you talking about?
Russell Wilson was a free agent too. Me what he
got nobody had had money coming to him.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
What.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
No, there's a big difference. No, that's a big no.
There's an off setting contract. Sure, but you can't pull
the off setting contract. Yes, I can't.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
You can't reason why it's eighty five million coming from
Denver is because the Pittsburgh Steelers were the only team
willing to offer him any money, and the only money
they were willing to offer was just over a million dollars.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
So why did they just go after Justin Fields?

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Was available before Russell Wilson and he was He wasn't
He was available.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Fundamentally, That's not.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Why. Because we were going to take Caleb Williams. Everybody
in Chicago knew it, but he wasn't. Why wasn't he available?

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Mark?

Speaker 4 (11:39):
Because when Russell Wilson got bench, the season was still
going on to Justin Fields to the start quarterback.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
No, but I'm talking about what in the off season.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
In the off season, Russell Wilson was the most available
free agent that possibly could have been.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
And I tell you're not a free win eighty six million?
That ain't that ain't a free agent. You're trying to
act like that, changing the definitions, not making any lay true. Yes,
because of Russell Wilson was released by the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
I get that.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
Know why he was released because they couldn't find a
trade partner after.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
He was going to trade. No would they do that?
Why would anybody in their right mind?

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Nobody wanted him?

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Okay, nobody saw he's at the Pittsburgh Steelers as a
starting quarterback.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
He shouldn't be. No, but he is. That's the point.
But what what you want? You starting quarters?

Speaker 1 (12:21):
August twelve? Nobody wanted him? But the Pittsburgh Steelers went
Now made a miss starting quarterback?

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Correct?

Speaker 1 (12:25):
I went out and did they yes or no? Answer
the question, No, they didn't.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
They did? They did it. Week one has not happened yet.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
There is no starting quarterback for the Russell Wilson is
number one of the depth chart in August.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Sam Darnold's number one of the depth tart Right now,
do you think j. J. McCarthy's not gonna get snaps
like this? What are you talking like? Jason?

Speaker 6 (12:44):
The whole game.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
I have seen JJ McCarthy, We have seen justin fields
and seeing the turnovers Martin, We've.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Seen nothing, seen it.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
That's the contract for a backup death. Why nobody, That's
why nobody wanted justin Field. Nobody went out explain Russell Wilson.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
No, but but but there's a difference between the two.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
One guys an older quarterback at the back end of
his career, justin fields, a young guy would maybe potential.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Everybody's looking for a quarterback.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
The problem is the only time we watch highlights is
of him running around, not throwing the football. That's why
people have been bought into him. Boa, Sean Payton and
the Denver Broncos bought eighty five million dollars into the
idea that Russell Wilson key Car would stop working at
the Denver Broncos, and the rest of the league could
have gotten him for that same number. The rest of

(13:33):
the league could have gotten it for that same contract.
All these different quarterback scenarios could have gotten for They
don't make any said. Nobody's gonna go out and give
him eighty five million, No one.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Has to how about this? How about this? How about that?
Go out and give him three million. You don't have
to do that. How about you go and give him
three million. That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
Nobody wanted to even triple what the Steelers we willing
to pay, which was just over a million dollars.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Nobody will want you. He's gonna get eighty five. Why
do I need to give him any money? Because you
need to start quarterback?

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Steelers needed a starting quarterback and it got us, so
did the Giants.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Okay, what did the Giants do?

Speaker 3 (14:06):
The guy?

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Giants got a guy on the hook. That's all right.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
The Giants have been making mistakes when they signed Daniel
Jones to forty million dollars, and then they're gonna make
another mistake by by going ahead and trying to prove
that Daniel Jones is that guy?

Speaker 2 (14:19):
All right?

Speaker 1 (14:19):

nine off Fox, who you got the starting quarterback for
the Steelers? Martin is all in on Justin Fields. I say,

(16:37):
Russell Wilson.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
Again, you keep telling me like I'm over here, like
if I had all the quarterbacks in the land to
pick from, Justin Fields will be my number one. But
in between two guys at once said eighty five million
dollars see you later, and Justin Fields sign me up
for JF one or two. I think his number is now.
Scott in North Carolina. You're on the A couple on
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Good to have you back, man, Thank you, buddy, I
appreciate it. How are you I'm.

Speaker 8 (17:05):
Doing good man, Marin Man. I was just warming up
to you, man, but you come today talking crazy. Tell
me how I got eighty three millions. So he doesn't
really necessarily have to concern about the money aspect. And
to me, the one million that Ruscott equals the sixth
round that Justin feels guy, Justine Feels is a way
younger guy at first. You know, saw pay never really

(17:28):
liked Russell coming, thank you.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
He from day one, from day one, he hated them.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
Does anybody ever considered there was a reason why Russell.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Wilson he got you. He he got you the two
Super Bowls in one one. Yeah that's why.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Yeah, you ain't get Sean Payton nowhere I'm talking about
he did as a quarterback.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
Russell Wilson he did. He just sent him away because
he didn't like the way to cut his hair. We
talking about. He hated him because he was terrible from
other personalities where people don't like people.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
Sure, then there you go.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
That stuffing in Philadelia right now, you know what they're
not doing cutting Jalen Hurts, Big Mike and Wichita.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
You're on the a couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 9 (18:09):
Hey, what was going on?

Speaker 2 (18:10):
Rob Martin?

Speaker 9 (18:11):
I appreciate you guys taking the taking a call and everything.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
How are you, man?

Speaker 9 (18:17):
I'm great. Hey. I got a shout out for Marcus
Golden just retired from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 6 (18:22):
Man.

Speaker 9 (18:22):
I remember that kid when he came when I was
at hutch and Uh he was like one of the
o G predators. He called him a predator as far
as the way he played man that was there a
young cat that he definitely deserved to go to Miszoo
and then uh and then then uh with Arizona. But anyway,
I'm with you, rob On. Russell Wilson should be the start.

(18:43):
The only way he ain't gonna start is if he's
not healthy. If he if he's not healthy, then yes,
go ahead and throw throw fields in the fire. That
but I know to him, Russell gonna be able to
get along with the coach here in Pittsburgh. Man, he
he knows what he's doing and he can speak to
him on a level of it. If you don't agree

(19:03):
with Russell, he's gonna have and get a gain and
understanding from him before he just say, oh, you know what,
I can't win with this.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Sean Payton was disrespectful to Russell Wilson from Jump Street
and it was ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
It was I'm serious, it was ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
Russell Wilson got cut out of the Horror The Horror.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Dan in Vegas, you're on the A Couple on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (19:29):
Thanks for having me on a great conversation, great show.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (19:34):
Realistically, I mean it makes sense, I mean, why not
Star Russell, You're only paying a million dollars for him
based off of the contract that you have. Uh, with
the trade, you're going to get a better draft pick
if you don't play him as much. So why not
up the dike because both quarterbacks, it doesn't matter with
both quarterbacks. I mean, you're it's it's a playoff anomaly,

(19:56):
not a playoff chance with either one of these quarterbacks,
with the Steve. So why not help your team in
the future by being able to get a better draft pick.
Start the one that's on the cheaper level, and then
that way you have a solid backup in fields moving forward.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Thank you. That makes so much logical logic. I got
lot Red. That's the first.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
That's literally literally the first thing I've heard in the
last fifteen minutes that makes logical sense. Yeah, that's because
you didn't even know that they traded a six round
draft pick for me.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
You know, No, you just didn't want to hear what
I had to tell you. You were so caught up
on justin Fields and you were in love with the
dude A hundred dollars for room. I'm just trying to
tell you, all right, coming up next, we're going to
talk to Chris Rose. Uh talk some baseball can't wait
Chris Rose from the host of the Chris Rose Rotation
in Baseball Today MLB podcast.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
But first let's get you caught up.

Speaker 3 (20:47):

Speaker 2 (21:00):
Thanks Camp, appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
It is the odd couple coming to you live from
the tire rack dot com studios, Rob Parker and Martin
Weiss in.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
For the vacation in Chris brussar right here on Fox
Sports Radio. Now, let's welcome in.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
Chris Rose, host of the Chris Rose Rotation and Baseball
Today MLB podcast, and Chris, Welcome to the show.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
Say hello to Martin Weiss.

Speaker 5 (21:20):
Hello, guys, what's up?

Speaker 2 (21:22):
How are you?

Speaker 5 (21:24):
I'm great man, And so this is like an amazing
time of year, right the Olympics just wrapped up. You know,
football is We're inching closer, Baseball is getting super interesting.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
So gotten great, no doubt. I'm with you. I was Sunday.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
I was at Yankee Stadium Yankees and the Rangers, and
you know, just I look at that team and I
keep saying to myself that Jazz Chisholm was the right
piece the Yankees needed some energy. He does a lot
of things, well where are you on that? And did
that well that helped the Yankees act win the division

(22:00):
over Baltimore to tide as we speak.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
Yeah, I mean, listen, he is. He is an energy provider.
I think his swing plays really well in that yard too.
He can also get into it the wrong way, like
his his slumps are pretty deep. But I think this
was a sort of trade that will re energize him.
I mean, people talk about the energy that he brings

(22:26):
to the Yankees, which he does, but I think that
you know, getting out of a situation where you know,
he is the guy, I think that that's a this
is this is nice for him. I think he's around
a bunch of guys that can help him maximize his ability.
So I think it's a good match. I do think
it's going to go. You know, those two teams, meaning Baltimore,

(22:47):
New York, they played the penultimate weekend of the season,
and you know, I don't think either team is going
to be up by more than two two and a
half games at that point, So.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
That could be a blast, You have a blast.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
Bobby Wood Junior hit went in the first inning today.
This series between the Royals and the Twins as a
major wildcard implications, Where are you at with Bobby Wood
Junior as a potential MVP candidate and on this Royals
team in general.

Speaker 5 (23:15):
Well, I mean, listen, I think it's going to be
tough to take the MVP away from Aaron Judge. He
just like every time I've seen him up, he smokes
the baseball. And I know that Witt has got him
edged a little bit in war. Obviously, his defensive positioning
certainly helps with that and the fact that he's, you know,
a stolen based guy as well. I think he'll finish

(23:39):
second this year. I think it'll go Judge with Soto,
and I think it'll be you know, it could be
a fairly close race. Only if Kansas City wins the
division and then people will be like, oh, okay, you
know he's the reason. But as far as Kansas City
in general, like, I'm a Guardians fan and I'm air

(24:00):
to them. They are they're they're pitching. Albeit tonight Brady
Singer got rocked. Their starting pitching has been very good.
I thought they made a couple of really key boltend
moves and their lineup is is solid. So I think
that'll be a nice three team race down the stretch
between Minnesota, Kansas City, and Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
Our guest is Chris Rose, host of the Chris Rose
Rotation and Baseball Today MLB podcast. So, Mookie Betts is
finally coming back, and uh, but the Dodgers have announced
that he's going to bat second. Some Dodger fans don't
like it. They think he should be the leadoff guy.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Where are you?

Speaker 1 (24:37):
And of course show Hey has taken over that leadoff spot.
Should show Hey be moved or should they just keep
show Hey where he is? And is Mookie not a
better leadoff hitter?

Speaker 5 (24:47):
Yeah, we're talking about one and two with elite I know, guys,
I mean, we're not talking about one or sitting the bench.
It's I mean, let's be honest. One guy leads off
the game. The other guy that you know, I don't.
I don't know, it doesn't That part doesn't do much
for me. I'm kind of more interested in the whole
short stop back to right field thing.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Yeah, I know, that's interesting, right, that he's going to
go back to the outfield he's an unbelievable superstar to
move around. Chris play second base? You want me to
play shortstop? Most guys with that pedigree en route to
the Hall of Fame wouldn't be move of positions like that.

Speaker 5 (25:26):
Yeah, But I think he also enjoys it, Like I
don't think they were like, hey, do you mind coming
back to the infield and trying that out? Like, I
think that he was more than okay with it, right.
I mean, he started out actually as a second baseman,
and then he became this gold Glove outfielder and fantastic
out there, and I think he really wanted to try
and do I think that he was frustrated that he

(25:49):
couldn't get better at the major league level with it. Yeah,
I mean, that's what makes Mookie elite. But I also
think there's probably part of him is like, yeah, this
kind of stinks that I'm not coming back to shortstop.
Not saying that like other guys shouldn't be there. What
I'm saying is, I think he's probably frustrated with the
fact that he's been so good at everything he's ever
done at the major league level that to not accomplish

(26:12):
that and there's no shame in it, Like, I don't know,
I've heard of guys moving off of shortstop in their
thirties right to go play other positions. You know, Robin
you out because of his shoulder, had to move to
the outfield, and one another cal Ripkin had to move.
A rod moved, although that was for a different reason.
But you understand my point, Like, guys don't get to

(26:32):
age thirty and all of a sudden, Yeah, you know what,
let me try shortstop in the big one.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Right, that just doesn't happen.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
Let me Speaking of the Dodge, I know they swept
the Pirates and it was dramatic yesterday, but I don't
know from where they started. And I know they've had injuries,
but other teams have had injuries. They just don't feel
like I thought they were going to beat the Beatles
this year. Are you still hot on the Dodgers. I
don't know if they have enough pitching. This could be
another disappointing postseason for this team to bite what we

(27:01):
thought going into the season.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
Well, I think they've got to figure out their pitching, right,
We don't know. Yamamoto is the X factor here because
he feels like he'll be back in September. What we
just don't know. As we speak. I'm watching Clayton Kershaw
try and get out of a two on Oh boy,
did you just give up a bombs fould? So I'm
trying to you know, he pitched, He didn't pitch great

(27:26):
his first two outings, pitched really well in the last one.
And you know, are the Dodgers, whether they win the
division or end up as a wild card or have
the buy or end up as the three seed, whatever
it is, are they going to be confident in giving
the ball to Clayton Kershaw, to Gavin Stone, to somebody

(27:47):
else like in Game two behind Tyler Glass. Now, I mean,
it's just it's weird that they have spent a ton
of money on guys and also been able to develop
really really good pitch and still not feel one hundred
percent confident necessarily. So I think that that's the big
question mark. It's not like, oh man, the Dodgers have

(28:09):
blown this. I think that, you know, they've suffered a
lot of injuries. There's most teams season would have been derailed.
So I actually applaud them that they have such a
good farm system that they can just keep bringing guys up.
It's amazing.

Speaker 4 (28:23):
Speaking of seasons as being derailed, Chris I was talking
to Chris Rose, hosted a Chris Rose Rotation in Baseball
Today MLB podcast.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
The Braves just dropped the series to the Rockies. Yeah,
are they going to mif the playoffs?

Speaker 5 (28:36):
I'm shocked if they do. And I mean, I'm worried
because that offense all year, even when Acuna was there,
it just wasn't clicking. And then once they lost the engine,
it's really been kind of a disaster. You know, Olsen
and Riley started to get hot I think, I want
to say maybe at the beginning of June, and then

(28:57):
they kind of cooled off a little bit. I just
can't believe that. Plus they've had all sorts of issues
at the back end of their rotation. They've been rotating
guys in and trying to figure out who can work there,
and they haven't found the perfect combination back there. And
now with you where you know, you see the way
that the Padres and the Diamondbacks have just stepped on

(29:20):
the gas the last month, and the Giants have won
twelve of sixteen and Blake Snell is back to his
cy young form, Like there's there's a lot of teams
that are going to have something to say down the stretch.
So Atlanta is in a situation it just hasn't been
in a lot over the last five six years.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Last thing about the Padres and they there. I've been
picking them the last three years, Chris, you know what
I mean. I just love I really have. And this
year it looks like they got a team going the
second half. They've been red hot. They got a great bullpen.
They showed up the bullpen. You know, I like them.

(29:59):
You would think that no, Jan Soto, right, all the
changes that went on, Fernando Tattis Junior heard, how are.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
They doing this.

Speaker 5 (30:09):
Well? Dylan Sees has kind of gone back. He reverted
back to the form that made him a cy Young
runner up from a few years ago. You know, he's
been out of this world great. Michael King has really
kind of developed now that he knows that he pitches
every five days for a team. He was, of course,

(30:29):
part of the Juan Soto deal. Matt Waldron has been great.
He has been great in the middle of that rotation.
And you know, I still think that they as well,
are still trying to figure out a little bit about
the back end of their bullpen too. But Jackson Merrill
has been nothing short of incredible. I mean, he is

(30:50):
very very young. He turned twenty one in April. And
for him to be now like basically carrying them over
the last couple of weeks impressive because usually this is
the time where kids like that, they're just like, my god,
is this a long season? And he's just he's energetic,
he's putting balls over the fence. He's moved positions from

(31:12):
shortstop to center field like he is. He's legit. And
when Tatis comes back, if he can provide anything for them,
look out.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
No doubt. His name is Chris Rose.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Check him out, host of the Chris Rose Rotation and
Baseball Today on MLB podcast. Chris, We appreciate your insight
and knowledge, my man.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
Thank you, all right, guys, take care, thank you.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
No doubt. All right.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
Not everybody is happy for Team USA. We'll talk about
that next. And Toda ain't me. We'll talk about that next.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
He was the hero Darling of the Olympics for.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
His millisecond win and now people are mad at him.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
Well, I mean I don't think people are mad at him.
It's just at this point you got to just stop,
just stop right. He went in this had this article
in time Time magazine, I should say, not just Time
on o'clock. But he goes talking about being invited to
Anthony Edwards's shoe release party by Adidas, who sponsors the
both of them, and he goes, you know, he said,

(33:37):
quote to Time, you want to invite me to an
event for a man who's never been to an NBA
finals in a sport you don't even care about, and
you're giving him a shoe, no disrespect, amazing athlete having
a heck of a year. I love that they saw
the insight to give him a shoe because they saw
that he's going to be big. All I'm asking is,
how could you not see that for me?

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Now? This is in June, this is.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
Prior to when he ran in the Olympics and all
of this shit, and now but now he's walking back
these comments saying that there's a rumor going around saying
that I didn't go to Anthony edwards shoe release because
he didn't deserve it.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
That's definitely not the case. Which one is it?

Speaker 1 (34:11):
Like?

Speaker 2 (34:11):
Which one is it?

Speaker 4 (34:12):
Because you in in June, you had nothing, you had
no good things to say about it, saying how could
you not consider this for me? And now you're saying, oh, well,
you know, I never really said that. The problem is
it's all written down. The problem is, you know, we
all can find it and see it. But if I'm
no allows right now, I just introduced myself to the
entire world as the world's fastest man.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
I don't have anything to say about anybody else. I
want to talk about me. Why would I be mentioning
about Anthony Edwards or his new shoe. I'm talking about me,
talking about my new shoe, because I'm the guy who's
the world fastest man, and we're an Olympic and World champion.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
That's what I think.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
I just don't understand why he's got to have this
energy about him. I would say, yeah, I said that then,
but let's talk about me now. I just don't understand
why he's a walking this back b why he has
his attitude of just kind of like, you know, I
had prior engagements, I couldn't make it, so on and
so forth. It just seems like, and especially coming after

(35:09):
the running the two hundred with COVID and jumping around
prior to and falling out afterwards, it just seems like
he's not taking a minute to shine in his own
light as opposed to talking about everybody else. And if
I just wanted to gold medal, I'd have nothing to.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Say about no Ron Parker.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
I'd be talking about Martin Weiss and I'm the baddest
MF for walking.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Yeah, but that's not the world we live in, you
know that.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
And people get the social media thing and what people
say and people tell their whole life story and all
kinds of stuff.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
This is the world you live in, Like, this is
what people do.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
And they're bothered whether people like him or dislike him,
you know, like there's stuff going around I either bothers
you or it doesn't. You're right, I'm with you. I
wouldn't even entertain any of that stuff.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
I wouldn't. I just wouldn't care.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
But that's not how people today deal with these things.
They're going to have to feel like they have to
address it. They're not going to run from it or
not say anything, so they feel compelled to say something.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
I just think it's whack. I just think it's whack.

Speaker 4 (36:09):
Like he had the opportunity right now to really catapult yourself.
We haven't had an American win the one hundred and
what feels like forever. He finally wins it, and now
you know, has that thing in the two hundred, which
I think everybody would be willing to gloss over if
he just didn't say anything or just kept it all
about how he's the gold medalist in the one hundred.
I'm the world's fastest man. You know what add is

(36:30):
make me a shoe. I'm the world's fastest Man's got
nothing to do with Anthony Edwards. So it's got nothing
to do with Anthony. I just don't understand why in
your highest moment, in one of your highest moments, one
of your life achievements, I'm sure no allows him with
Drew about winning a gold medal.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Since he learned how to tie a shoe.

Speaker 4 (36:47):
And now in this moment, while everybody knows your name,
everybody in the world is paying attention to More people
watch that hundred meter final than watch any game of
the NBA finals, Like I just will talk about me.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
That's me.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
I would be like, I'd be doing three laps all
over myself. It had nothing to do with nobody else.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
I agree with you, but I just don't think that
that's where we are in this society now with social media,
I think it had. It's it's uh absorbed a lot
of people, and people can't push away from it. People
can't ignore it. Martin, Am I off base? I mean
that like like there's a lot of people with beefs

(37:23):
on social media. Somebody say something, they gotta respond. They
just can't brush it off. People can talk junk about
me or say something. I'm not gonna be worked up.
You just get blocked and I move on.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
Well, we know people block you because you've been showing
me all your positive Twitter mentions. And I was like,
oh wait, that's because you've blocked everybody else.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
I didn't block anybody. What are you talking about?

Speaker 4 (37:44):
There's a song about it, right, there's a song about
this song about allows. I would just block Anthony Orwards
and go about my day.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
You would block too if you tried to dish you.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
That song is the most did you know? And real
song on the radio Because it's real, Martin, It can't
be original. It was literally a copy off of somebody
else's so.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Deliverate.

Speaker 4 (38:13):
But it's a party no. But but that's why you
have Leslie on X everybody telling.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
You about oh Ram, You're so smart, you're so great.

Speaker 4 (38:23):
I can't believe Martin didn't agree with you on this,
that and the third oh Ron.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
Retweet me, please, nobody asked to be retweeted.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
Don't get jelly, because.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
You know people understand my my reasoning and they like
my thought process.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
That's all all right, you'd like to know allows the radio.
All right, I'll take that. Got to get the last
word right, all right?

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Our number three, we're gonna talk about Jason Tatum. I
can't wait to get into that. It is the odd couple,
