Let's get this parties. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Welcome in our number two of The Odd Couple on
a TV theme song Thursday, and man, what an hour
it's going to be coming up in about twenty eight minutes.
Jared Bell, the Hall of Fame NFL reporter from USA Today,
one of the best in the business.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
I've known Jared for a long time. He's agreed to
come on.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
With me and you a from you know Jared, you
know Jared right, Just a great guy, great reporter. He's
gotten some good stuff for USA Today. We'll do that,
don't forget in the third hour. Tysus Tower of Trivia,
always a fan favorite. Will do that in the third
hour as well. And uh, but let's start here from.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Well, let me let me say something that intro right,
and last Thursday, when I was when you were off
gallivanting wherever you were.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
I asked Chris.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
I said, okay, so which one of us is throwing
money at the pole?

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Like?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Who who is? What's in that intro? Like? Who who?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Right? Yeah, so I'm filling in. So who's who's throwing
money at the pole?

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Man? I just that's me? Oh that's you? Yeah? Do
you think it's Chris all money?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
I'm just saying me and you and I yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's me.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
You're a family man. What you ain't throwing money at
a poe? The last time you've been at a strip club,
your wifeless.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Wife went to the last time was in Vegas. So
you and your wife went. Look at brother, that's been
you the forty one years. All right, I love it
twenty one years. You got to keep it fresh. This
is my wife, This is my best friend. Would you
go to the strip club with your best friend?

Speaker 5 (02:00):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Why wouldn't I go to mine? I love it?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
No, some guys would never take their while. Hey man,
I'm not gonna sneak to the strip club. Oh no, No,
you shouldn't be sneaking anyway. Once you get exactly seriously
and hey, this is what I want to do. You
want to come or not. If you don't want to come,
then I'll see you a little bit later. She like, look, man,
you went, you like to go before I knew you.
You know, I don't have a problem with it. She

(02:23):
used to be an entertainer. Uh so She's like, I
can see the art form in it.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Right.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
She was on tour with Beyonce when I met her,
and toured the whole world with everybody pretty.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Much, and you never know a couple of dollars might
fall into her pocket, you know what.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
I could get deep in in depth, but you know
it's not the show. I understands. The son is still out.
I understand if this was Ben Mallis.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Show, right, So we can talk about everything.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
No doubt. But let's go here, Ephraim. I mean, and
I know people gonna say.

Speaker 6 (02:55):
Robert just your prison of the moment, cause there Judge
just became the fastest. Talking about Aaron, Judge is the
fastest the three hundred home runs. So now he's the
greatest player whoever played in the Big.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
I'm not saying that because if you want to take
a player and they're at full strength, and you said,
who are you going to start your team with?

Speaker 1 (03:21):
It would be show hal Tani he can pitch and
he get hit. Okay, Okay, so I'm not even that's
not the conversation We're about to happen.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
And what's the conversation?

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Aaron Judge is more exciting than show hey Otani.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
His style like like like his the way he looks,
his presence, everything.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Six eight, big strong, muscles, home runs galore, He's playing
and pinched like everything about him a model? Am I
right or wrong? Like he's a isn't he to have
a thing with Ralph Lauren? Now I think he's doing
cologne or whatever. Dude, he's Do you wear the Aaron Judge? No,
but I've seen it. No, I've seen that's the posters

(04:06):
or whatever. Oh the Yankees or whatever. But there's an
excitement factor. And you notice from even in football or
any sport there are guys who are really good, but
they don't have like a flare to them. Yes, right,
like like oh this guy. I'll give you a perfect example.
Tim Duncan was one of the greatest basketball players ever.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yes, hello, and you know what, if he's in the game,
it gets that rebound and Ray Allen misses that shot.
Guess what, Tim Duncan would be six for six just
like Michael Jordan. Nobody ever thinks of that.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
That's true. Think about that.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
The reason he wasn't in the game blows my mind anyway,
am I right? Like Pop is supposed to be this
great coach that was a first guest, not a second.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
I'm watching, Like, where's Tim Duncan for the miss free throw.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
That he won in the game. Okay, Shoe Hay is
more like Tim Duncan. And I'm not saying he's not
he doesn't have big home runs or he's not Aaron
Judge in this man's league is and here's here's some
of the things that go with it. Guys are batting

(05:23):
ephraim to twenty uh two, twenty one ninety five, and
nobody bats an eye because in this man's MLB, they don't.
They don't worry about, you know, like when you make
out or whatever. It's about, you know, putting the ball

(05:43):
in play and getting hits and getting on base and whatever.
He's betting three thirty three In a league where guys
are bat the league average might be two forty. He's
batting three thirty three with four twenty three home runs.
Running away with the RBIs right almost one hundred and twenty.

(06:05):
I think I'm looking at this guy and all the things,
and here's the other part that told me that he
was that special, and he moves the needle. The Yankees
have never been about popping up anybody ahead of the franchise. Ever,

(06:26):
it's about the Yankees, right, twenty seven World Championships, the pinstripes,
you gotta shave like everybody.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
It was about the Yankees.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
When they made a section the judge's chambers in in
Yankee Stadium for fans to wear robes and the wigs
and sit in this judge's chamber. That's when I knew
even the Yankees can't deny what this guy means to
fans and how exciting he is and how people we

(06:58):
talked about during baseball chicks loved the long ball.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Dude, everybody loves the long ball.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
And I dare you to say, when he comes up,
you're going to get food from the refrigerator, or you're
gonna go and use the restroom.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
You're going to watch his at bat. Okay, that's my
argument for his excitement. So I'm going to give that
to you this year right now. Currently, you may be
right when it comes to Aaron Judge, his look, his

(07:33):
cologne that you wear, it's just his physique.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Right. Also, that's your six ads, it's me. I'm six eighths. Right,
We're both are strikingly good looking. Okay, let me go.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
This is where we're going to differ, right, Yeah, but
I understand what you're saying. Number one in the league
where we don't have the faces of the league being
American born stars, right where most dynamic baseball players we
talked about one solo earlier.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
With Jamie Shoelani.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Right, there's their second language, English the second language. So
there's a little bit of lost in translation, a little
bit lost in marketing. But I will say this, because
show hat is not pitching this year, I would lean
on what you said. Wait a minute, Aaron Judge is exciting.

(08:35):
He's more exciting because you you hold your breath now,
someone who's out here and you're from New York, from
from LA I got it right, Yep. The team I
do watch the most, the Dodgers, right.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
And for people who don't know, people love the Dodgers
out here. It's like people have no idea. Yeah, the
Dodgers sold four million tickets.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
I've been to Dodger games. I'm like, I'm in the
dot Stadium. I'm in there. And so what I will
say show a Atani is box office. When last year
before he got hurt, when he was on the mound
and at the plate, everybody was tuning in because where

(09:25):
could you go see someone getting eight nine k's a
home run and hit the cycle. No, I got it right,
So to that point this year, Aaron Judd Boom got it.
But the most exciting player in baseball is show he Atani.

(09:46):
Baseball has done a terrible job of marketing him. They've
done a terrible job of marketing the game in general.
But what I will say is when show Hey next year,
when he's pitching and he's hit, he's gonna do the
same thing he's doing now, including the stolen basis at

(10:08):
thirty five, He's gonna do the same thing he's doing now.
But then he's gonna have starts at pitcher. Now, that
in itself, because there's only one currently in baseball doing that,
that's more exciting than anything you can you can you
can tell me.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Here, Here's what I'll say.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
And I agree that him doing both being a unicorn
and somebody we haven't seen.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Do this at high level. That the highest level.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
He's not a Sad Young Award winner, but he's a
number one startup.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
But let me tell you this, Okay, if he did,
if he just focused on pitching, could he win the Siunce?

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (10:44):
If he probably stopped and and you know what if
he stopped pitching and just became a hitter.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
I know its batting average is under three hundred.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Now ninety four, but go ahead, that can change in
a minute.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
But you know how fast that can change. Go ahead, Okay,
I'll say this.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
What Aaron Judge does, which is hit monster home runs,
is at a higher level than when show Hay pitches
and when show hayes just a hitter, not combined. So

(11:26):
I'm giving you that, do you shoot his level? You
just take them as hitters. I'm taking Judge Judge as
a hitter compared to show Hay as a pitcher. Judge
is an MVP. Show hayes not a cy young Do

(11:47):
you got me?

Speaker 3 (11:49):
Judges at a higher level for what he does for
either one. When you combine the two, show Hay hands down,
you combined. But you have to combine because he's a player.
I mean you you're combining to you not giving him
someone else's talent, nod.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
He possesses both of them.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
But I just think there's something and he from It's crazy.
Five years ago at FS one, they had me do
a video. They had me pick my top five sluggers
of all time. It's nineteen. No, this is twenty seventeen.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Do you know I didn't pick Ken Griffy Junior in
that list? Refresh our memory, Okay, but I did. Crazy.
I know it is crazy. It is crazy, you know.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
And the whole thing is you don't want to just
pick the top five on the list.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
That that defeats the purpose. Are you miant something to
you to move you?

Speaker 2 (12:47):
That movie?

Speaker 7 (12:48):
Right?

Speaker 1 (12:48):
And that was the whole point of it, because if
you just go to a list, oh yeah, here's the
top five of home runs, I'm just gonna pick those five,
what is the point of the list. So my point
is I picked Aaron Judge back then, in twenty seventeen,
And even the on the headline of the thing said,
and yes, Rob has already picked Aaron Judge. And my

(13:12):
point is I saw something in twenty seventeen. This guy
is special. He's unbelievable to watch. I can't take my
eyes off. I don't want to miss it that bad.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Like that's where I was the only thing that stopped
him injuries, not when he plays.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
So.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Number one. Not to go back to twenty seventeen. No, no, no,
but I take issue with that list and how you
did that. And I don't even know who else was
on the list. Daryl Strawberry is on my list. You already, okay?
Any Barry Bonds was number one, of course, right. Mark
McGuire was on his Hank and the who So I

(13:58):
don't have even have hank, Aaron, you didn't have Hangard
have that cap?

Speaker 2 (14:03):
I know? Okay? No, Sammy Sosa, No, Sammy Soler, I.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Can't remember who's my other one was? Oh and a
Rod it was It was a Rod Strawberry. Aaron Judge
was number five on the top five.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Right, that was the list.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Listen, listen. The thing I take Humbridge with with you
is that's like saying, give me your top five greatest quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Right and.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Three years ago, I say I'm gonna put Peyton Manning.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
I'm going to.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Put Tom Brady. Let me see, I'm gonna put Warren Moon.
I'm gonna put Joe Burrow and then I'm gonna cap
it with Aaron Rodgers three years ago. Right, even though

(15:06):
I saw something in Joe Burrow three years ago, I'm
not putting him. And mind you, they were in the
super Bowl three years ago. No, I get it. I'm
not putting him in my top five greatest quarterbacks. They
didn't say. They asked you the greatest hitters, and you

(15:26):
put somebody in twenty seven, twenty seventeen without what what now?
That to me is crazy, But you and you only
did it for this moment right now. And I got
half this moment right now. And that's bull okay, because
anything could have happened.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
It's called insight. It's called insight. I saw something the
kid out Oh my eight.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine
nine six sixty three sixty nine. And I'm real simple.
Who's more exciting of a player? Is it Aaron Judge
or show Hail Tani. We want to hear from you.

we asked you a simple question. Who's more exciting?

Speaker 2 (18:19):
Is it Aaron Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Judge or show Hail Tani?

Speaker 3 (18:24):
All right, we got rich in Vegas. You on the
our couple with epheman Rob what you got man?

Speaker 5 (18:31):
What's up?

Speaker 2 (18:31):
Fellas?

Speaker 7 (18:31):
First of all, great show love listening. I love Ethan
when you when you sub in your great so I
love it.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (18:39):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yeah, yeah, of course?

Speaker 5 (18:41):
All right?

Speaker 7 (18:42):
By far better player out of the two is show
Hay and listen. I'm from Vegas. I'm not a Yankee fan,
I'm not a Dodgers fan. I'm a die hard Cubs fan.
But show Hey is the needle mover when it comes
to the two. When he's healthy and we're talking healthy,
not you know, when he's pitching and hidden, people are
tuning in for that. Like Ethan was saying earlier, people
were tuning in even even on TV shows when Aaron

(19:06):
Judge isn't batting and him home runs, he's just another guy.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
Yeah, but when he's at the when he's at the plate, though,
you don't. You don't pay attention to Aaron Judge.

Speaker 7 (19:16):
Yeah, but you're tuning in more on highlight shows for
show Hay because of pitching and because of bad what.
Aaron Judge is just up to the plate if he
doesn't hit a home run, just like okay, he didn't
need a home run. With show Hey, you're tuning in
to watch it, all right. He's a whole package.

Speaker 5 (19:33):
He's a whole package.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
Pretty nine on Fox, we got Andre in Massachusetts.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
You on the odd couple with Robin even what you got, Yeah,
you're doing thanks.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
For taking my call this.

Speaker 9 (19:44):
Listen, this is close between the two of them. But
what I see from show Hay on the mound versus
at the batter's box, that's what gives him the advantage.
What he did to begin the twenty twenty three baseball
season when he was healthy at the start of last year,
that was some boat Jackson stuff that was was seeing
from him in terms of the domination from both sides. Uh,
you know, in terms of pitching and hitting before he

(20:05):
eventually kind of slowed down and was only able to
do one. But what his ability when he can do
both of those two at the at the same time.

Speaker 5 (20:13):
You know, that's just out of this world.

Speaker 9 (20:15):
Now their their careers are similar, but show Hey is
equally accomplished.

Speaker 5 (20:20):
He's got two m vps. Aaron Judge only has the
one m v P. I okay, okay, shout out.

Speaker 9 (20:28):
But I just think, you know, this is like one
and like one point one A. They're they're they're so close.
I'm not dismissing Aaron Judge in any way, shape or form,
but Sho hay Otani, he's shown it. He has the
achievement and hopefully when he's able to do both because
you guys already mentioned it MLB for however great their
tradition is, and Rob, you're a Hall of Fame voter, however,

(20:49):
uh sanctified their hall of Fame is keeping that goal standard.
They just do an awful job with their stars, okay,
in terms of getting them to to to the to
the general public. So I'm going with show Hey, thanks
taking the call.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
Thanks right, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox to
squeeze another one? Can we get more? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (21:03):
We got one more and we got Israel and Coachella.
You on the eye couple with robbing E from what
you got?

Speaker 5 (21:08):
Oh, hey there, it's honestly, it's a pretty easy question.
It's Show Healed Tani.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Wow, it's a clean, sweep shop shot. Yeah, don't be
shocked this year.

Speaker 9 (21:18):
This year, maybe Aaron Judge, because you want to see,
let's see if he could, you know.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Go for another home run, get sixty again? Maybe?

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Right?

Speaker 5 (21:25):
I know, he took Aaron.

Speaker 9 (21:28):
Judge to break the al home run record, so he
could be like a more exciting player than Show Heal Tani.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
So I don't know, that's a good point, that's fair.
I appreciate you, man, Yeah, appreciate you. We got time
for one more. We do all right? We got Chad
in Cincinnati on the eye couple robbing E from what
you got?

Speaker 5 (21:44):
Okay, what's up? What's up?

Speaker 2 (21:46):
What's that? What's up? Chad? How are you?

Speaker 5 (21:48):
I was just walking in the door, got my son
and my arm s high.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
How old is he now?

Speaker 10 (21:58):
He's three?

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Very nice? Nice man, I said something nice he's big now, huh,
very nice?

Speaker 7 (22:04):
Yeah, So hey, it's definitely Judge. He's more exciting because
he's more personable.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
We don't really know show. Hey, yeah, because he's still
transitioning to our culture. But just to give you a
quick caveat, I know you're hard on L E O G.
But Ellie's gonna be the next most exciting player, mark
my word.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Okay, A lot of you Brian Kenny on MLB networkers
with you, I'm always going about Ellie de la Cruz,
who's exciting. Uh, but lats like they were ready to
crown him from and then he batted two thirty five
and struck out a million times in the second half
of the season, and then people fell off of him.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
And now this year he's made the All Star team
and he's a very good player. I just was like,
I need to see more before I crown anybody. That's all. Well,
I mean you didn't need to see more with I
saw enough.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Yeah, when you put him on your all time man
walmsalut both sides of your beard.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
Okay, But I was right.

Speaker 7 (23:05):
I was right.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Thank you, brother, appreciate appreciate it all right. Coming up next,
I was thank you.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Coming up next, we'll talk to the Hall of Fame
football writer Jared Bell from USA Today get some tidbids
around the NFL. But first let's get you caught up
with mister Steve the Sega who signaled to me that
he would pick Aaron Judge as well.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
Right, really I didn't, Oh, I don't think so.

Speaker 11 (23:29):
No does Aaron Aaron Judges have thirty five steals also
this year?

Speaker 12 (23:33):
Did I miss that to you? You know how big
that pizza box is that you know? I mean, you
need you need to get off this point. He from
he thinks that no stolen base counts anymore.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
No, with the the base, it's like the size of
a pizza box.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
So you got more, you get, you get to you
get a bigger lead at first, and then you're closer
the second.

Speaker 11 (23:56):
Okay, so why doesn't it Aaron Judge have thirty five steels?

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Everybody's by that notion, by that lodging, everybody should have
at least thirty five he update to do.

Speaker 11 (24:06):
It would literally take Judge five years to get the
amount of stolen bases that o'tani has in five months. Wow,
put it that way to Major League Baseball news is
the Orioles are a half game behind the Yankees in
the Al East, and Baltimore is leading tonight for to
one over the Red Sox in the bottom of the seventh.
Philly's up nine to two on Washington in the top
of the seventh, and the late game is on FS

(24:27):
one Right now, Texas leading to to one over Minnesota
top of the second. Houston winners of eighth straight off
Milwaukee with three runs bottom of the eighth, beat the
Dodgers today six ' four, the loss to reliever Daniel Hudson,
but Milwaukee says outfielder Christian Yelich is out for the year.
He'll have back surgery. San Francisco and Logan Webb beat
the Braves and Max Fried's six nothing. Detroit edged Seattle

(24:50):
two to one, and Oakland was down five to nothing early,
but still beat the Mets in New York seven to six.
One NFL exhibition tonight, It's at New England and the
Patriots have a ten to three lead early third quarter
against Philadelphia. Quarterback Drake May with a four yard touchdown
run with about two minutes left in the first half.
Joey Slye with a fifty one yard field goal. No

(25:11):
NFL games tomorrow. The Falcons signed free agent safety Justin
Simmons and Bill's linebacker Matt Mulona will miss at least
a few months with the torn biceps. He was heard
on Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Back to you all right, Steve, thank you.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
It is the I Couple on a TV theme song Thursday,
Rob Parker Ephram Salaam, coming to you a lot from
the tyrack dot com studios.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
We welcome in the Hall of Fame football writer for
USA Today. Friend of mine Jared Bell. Jared say hi
to Ephrom Salam.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
How are you?

Speaker 5 (25:42):
What's that?

Speaker 2 (25:43):
How you doing?

Speaker 3 (25:43):
Man?

Speaker 5 (25:45):
Odd couple?

Speaker 2 (25:48):
You know always always he Hey, Jared, let's start here.

Speaker 12 (25:52):
My man.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Dak Prescott is singing high praises. Things are moving, he says,
in Dallas, things are happening. Are you hearing anything, is
he going to break the bank with Jerry Jones, who's
the franchise that's worth ten billion dollars?

Speaker 3 (26:06):
Now?

Speaker 5 (26:07):
Exactly? It just a number just keeps going up and up.
You know, Jerry has said consistently that he wants Dak
Prescott to be the quarterback for the long term, and
so that just tells you that they want to get
a deal done. Dak still has another year in his contract,
but I think the thing to really consider it, and

(26:30):
like you said, break the bank.

Speaker 7 (26:31):
It's just kind of timing for a lot of.

Speaker 5 (26:33):
These guys, especially your quarterbacks and your elite players, when
you hit the market and that's the going rate. Okay,
we all know Patrick Mahomes is underpay because some of
the quarterback deals we've seen lately, you know, including you
know two, it just makes you say, well, this guy's
worth that. Then Patrick Mahomes is worth that.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
Malmes took a bad deal. I'm telling you he should
have never agree to that first.

Speaker 5 (27:02):
But I hear you, Rob, because the value, you know,
you kind of outplay it, especially you're talking about him
and be in the face of the NFL and being
productive when it comes to winning Super Bowls. So yeah,
you can say that, but they restructured it last year
to give them some more money and move the money around,

(27:25):
and so it's not as bad as it looks. But
if you go back to when he signed that ten
year deal, it was forty five million dollars per year
at that point, and now if you look at it
at that average, you say it's not worth it. But
when I talked to the Homes a few weeks ago
in chiefs camp, he told me that they pretty much
had an understanding of when they were going to go

(27:48):
back in and it's not this year. It's I think
it's next year, no later than two years from now.
And so that will that will be another case of
breaking the bank.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Right.

Speaker 5 (28:00):
But Dak Prescott, this is all good for him because
even without winning Super Bowls or even a playoff, you know,
he's inlying to you know, crack that you know, maybe
fifty million here, mark or more right, Well, he.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
Wants to crack sixty.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
And I think, and and look, what's happening at the
quarterback position is you're right.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
It has to do with timing.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
It's like the next person up, So everybody's trying to
be that next guy or want to see that next
guy get their money because it kind of resets the market.
My question to you is, say Dak Prescott plays this out,
he doesn't get paid before the end of the season,
hits the market, someone's gonna give him that money in

(28:52):
your in your opinion, who are the three quarterbacks in
the NFL who deserves sixty plays us a year? Obviously
we know Patrick mat Yeah, like do you do you have?
How many do you have?

Speaker 5 (29:08):
Yeah? Really, well, I'll tell you the three most valuable
quarterbacks in my mind would be Patrick obviously. And then
you look at Lamar Jackson's, Josh Allen Burrow. Okay, I'm
kind of I think I'm gonna stop right there.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Those are good names right there.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
I'm with you.

Speaker 5 (29:28):
Yeah, but you know, Josh Allen's gonna have to have
a new deal, and Lamar who just did a deal
a couple of years ago. I mean, he's gonna be
up again before too long. But but Patrick is the
one now, Dak in that equation. It's about timing. And
here's the other thing that we always have to consider
the NFL. This kind of prints money, right yes, okay, And.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
So except for when it comes to pensions, in healthcare
Betty story.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
Yeah right, I know, yeah, tell some of the retireds right, Yeah,
they printed and they don't give it to people.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
And so.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
I make that point just because the salary cap is
gonna just keep going up and up, and the NFL
is going to opt out of their TV deal in
a couple of years, okay, and they're gonna go to
eighteen games. So we're talking, you know, two hundred and
fifty five million salary cap that's gonna be blown out
of the water here in the next year or two

(30:29):
and then some And so when you look at the
numbers of what people our work to talk about your
marquee players and your quarterbacks in particular, Yeah, it's just
going to keep going up. Here's the thing to chew on,
or to at least put in your in your back
pocket in terms of trying to project where all this

(30:49):
could go. The NFL has a sally cap, as we know,
it may get to a point where the NFL feels
like it has to have a quarterback salary ca app
with nflary gap, and it would be really interesting to
see kind of how that evolves. When you know you're
talking about redoing TV contracts, which in turn means redoing

(31:12):
the labor deal all of that. But the end of
the NFL had these long as, these long term deals
with the labor deal and with the TV deal, but
they can hop out and just redo it and kind
of like we see with players all the time.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
All right, And to follow up on that, in terms
of quarterbacks, brock Parties had a sensational start to his career.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
He his deal is is is coming up? Where do
you see him fitting in? Where? What is the value
the per year did you place brock party Oh.

Speaker 5 (31:44):
Man, man, I hadn't really thought of it to that degree,
but I mean, you know at the floor just because
he's a quarterbacks are winning team and went to the
Super Bowl, yeah you gotta go. You got to start
with a forty And Bertie's agent might hear that and gag.

(32:05):
But again, it's all about timing and the quarterbacks that
you have. You know, you think about Mahomes and you
go back to Tom Brady when he was with not
only the Patriots but also with the Bucks. Took under
market deals because I think at some point, if you

(32:26):
want to win, and you want to win Super Bowls,
you're gonna have to make some concession, you know what.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
Jared, I hear that all the time. I don't buy it.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Matthew Stafford did not take less money and the Rams
that's not the only way to win. I hear people
say that because Brady was able to win, you know,
and Patrick Mahomes, But that's not the only way you
can win in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
And the Rams gave up Olympicks.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
They took a quarterback who was making a ton of
money and they won the Super Bowl. Like, why do
the quarterbacks have to give up their money for the
team to be able to win?

Speaker 5 (33:01):
I don't buy that, because you might not repeat because
everybody's gone or several your key players are gone because
they got better deals elsewhere. It's definitely a slippery slope.
And I hear you, Rob, because intuitively, you don't want
to talk about not cashing in at the market at
the price when it's your turn. So I totally get that.

(33:25):
And I think the thing you talk about, brock Perdy,
what was so good for the forty nine ers is
that they got this guy in mister irrelevant if you will,
at a cheap bargain price because he's selling a rookie deal.
All of that. And so when you have situations like
that where you get the quarterback playing at a certain level,

(33:45):
you know, start an elite level, and you got them
on a rookie deal, then you could pay some of
these other guys to keep it going. But again, yeah,
it's all about you know, finagling that that salary cap
and look at the right so they pay you know,
Chris Jones even the whole out last year at this time,
and you know he ended up getting a new deal

(34:06):
just like you know, boasting with the forty nine ers,
and so you were able to keep him. But in
the Chiefs case, yeah, we talked about we talked about
all the money that Patrick Mahomes has and we'll get
but they weren't able to keep Tyreek kids.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Right, They've lost players, That's what That's exactly my point, Like,
oh Patrick took LUs. That means we'll be able to
keep the court together. They've lost players over money.

Speaker 5 (34:28):
Yeah, yeah, but they didn't. They didn't lose all of them.
They didn't lose Kelsey, they didn't lose Chris Jones. So
you have to make some decisions on you know, who's
you know, most valuable for you to keep or not.
And I thought, I'm gonna tell you. I told Andy
Reid this myself when I talk about the NFL meetings.
I was like, what y'all gonna do with about Tyreek Hill?
How this is going to work? And he, you know,

(34:49):
he kind of looked at me, as you know, and
he can do and we'll figure it out and so
on and so for well, they ended up winning them,
winning the Super Bowl and then winning the Super Bowl again.
But those are the decisions that change have to make.
But again, it's better to make those decisions when the
salary cap is going up another fifteen to twenty million
dollars every year and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
So his name is Jared Bell, my man. I appreciate you,
you know that, Thank you so much. Excellent as always,
Jared appreciate you guys having me.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
Yep, check out his stuff in USA Today, the NFL
columnists and the Hall of Famer Jared Bell.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Very nice. All right.

Speaker 1 (35:28):

What show is this? I know it's a cartoon, I
just can't forget the name of it. It's King of
the Hill, Shing of the Hill.

football and OSU Ohio State. The Ohio State University abs
a new quarterback.

Speaker 10 (37:00):
Yes, sir, we got new quarterback guys, Will Howard, the
former Kansas State who indeed he was actually transferred from
Kansas State. A couple of stat lines on the guy
is he's actually in his thirty four career games, he
had twenty eight starts. He actually completed fifty nine percent
of his passes for about five seven hundred yards, forty

(37:23):
eight touchdowns and only twenty five interceptions. But why he's
so instrumental here in Ohio State guys, is Ryan Day
likes to keep his guys more pocket passing in recent times.
This year's different. They're actually doing a new scheme and honestly,
with the bringing Chip Kelly from UCLA as their offensive coordinator,
they're going more run approach, kind of almost like at

(37:44):
Justin Field's dynamic type guy.

Speaker 2 (37:47):
And Will Howard, what is he more.

Speaker 10 (37:49):
Notable for good arm, even better legs. He can run
on the move, guys, and they're trying to freshen it up.
They're trying to win another national title and also just
as big as that, trying to take down Michigan guys.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
So different and that's the bottom line, Like, well, I
don't care who the quarterback is and you the headline
is can Ryan Day keep his job, which is crazy
to say given his record, but.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
You know, it's all about Michigan. Know that, no matter
you could win twelve games eleven start with Harballen, he
couldn't beat Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (38:20):
People.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
People don't remember it because they won the national championship
last year. Harball he was in trouble. He was in trouble.
Anybody else would have been fired. But he's got a history.
His dad coach for Boat Shemby was there, played for
she Beckler, he was a quarterback captain, comeback like that
all its history. Had it been anybody else eat from,

(38:42):
they would have been fired at Michigan. So that so
Ryan Day though, for all the wins and everything he's done,
it doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
Literally conversations where he's on the hot seat. His record
is unreal. It doesn't even matter. They were beating Michigan
like a drum. But the last three years right and
when it turned and then for Michigan to go on
to winter. Now they hadn't won a national championship since
Moby Dick was a guppy.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
It's been that long.

Speaker 3 (39:12):
That's a new one, I know, right, I've only said
it about three hundred thousand times.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
You know what something, when something's good, you stick with it.
I told Walter Cronkite, go and stick with that, you know,
that's the way it is.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Stick with that. Is that where you still wearing that
sweat sweatsuit? Is that stick with it? Yeah? So hey,
this worked in the seventies, seventies, that's what life. Well
it's out, it's still working. Yeah. But look, the onus
is on Ryan Day.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
He has to show out and too improve like you know,
o h I oh, all a all they care about,
all right, and.

Speaker 2 (39:49):
Especially with Harball gone.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
Now right, well that's what we said, right, we said,
what when Harball couldn't beat Urban Mine and Ryan Day
came and then he couldn't beat him?

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yep, right, it was like, okay, well what's going on here?

Speaker 3 (40:02):
Then you know, Hardball hit it after the pandemic, came
back strong, had some great teams. Now Ohio State's on
the other end of that. And look, these two places
have eaten up a lot of great coaches.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
Right.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
If you don't satisfy that quota of beating your arrival
Michigan or Ohio State, depending on what side of the
fence you're on, then you are on the hot seat,
and you're open to be removed no matter if you're
fifty nine and three right, like it doesn't matter. And

(40:39):
just those staggering numbers of win versus defeat, like you
win ninety eight percent of.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
Like you know that college football, that's all good? Did
you win the big game? What we gotta make a change?
Like the alumni, the donors, all those people aren't going
to be happy, all right? Coming up, final hour of
the program. Should we give back medals in the Olympics.
We want to talk about that stick and stay America
