Speaker 3 (00:25):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (00:31):

also tire to the loan. In your job search, with

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Near as you.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
That's expresspros dot com, all right, I'm gonna throw out
the phone number eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
from Less revisit the Dion thing. I think there were
more people who really wanted to get involved. And if
you're just joining us, Rob g tell us what happened
at Colorado and how a single columnist from the Denver

(01:37):
Post was singled out and basically said, you can't do
your job here anymore. Forget about us not responding to
your questions. You can't even ask questions to our football team,
which you know doesn't sit right with Rob Parker, the
sports writer.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yeah, that is correct.

Speaker 6 (01:56):
The Colorado Athletic Department inform the Denver Post today that
columnist Sean Keeler will no longer be allowed to ask
questions of Dion Sanders or anyone else within the Buffalo's
football program due to what they called a quote series
of sustained personal attacks in Keealer's coverage of the Buffalos.

(02:18):
When asked for specific examples of how he personally attacked
Sanders or the program, Colorado cited the use of phrases
such as quote, false, prophet, deposition, Dion planet prime, the
Bruce Lee of BS, the Dion kool Aid, and generally
referring to the program as a quote.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Circus, those are also tame.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Let's get a former athletes opinion first in e from
Salam and of course a guy who's been in the
media from how long you've been doing in the media
twenty five years?

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Yeah, I mean you've been around for a long time time, yep.
And we'll get your take and then I'll just tell you.

Speaker 7 (02:55):
You know what I do and look, and I pride
myself on being objective, okay, certain especially I have teams, right,
I'm a Laker fan, but no, I'm critical of Lakers.
I'm critical of management of players, all of those things
based on you know, reality of it.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Right.

Speaker 7 (03:13):
Do I not like some people or something, of course,
But do I allow that to have me lash out
at them personally false prophet this and that? Like sometimes
I don't agree with how Rob Palinka is putting the
team together. Our Genie Buss, but am I she's a hack,
has been Daddy's girl.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I don't lash out like that.

Speaker 5 (03:37):
Right, I can't call her Genie Bus.

Speaker 7 (03:40):
I know, I stay. I state because I'm a professional.
I state my opinion based on the facts. Now, when
you start going to false profit and the kool aid
and all of these things. Now but consistently though, you
consistently do it right. I was very critical of Dion
only success which turned into no success. Right, But why

(04:05):
so you start breaking down the level of talent they
had and the level of talent they were going against. Right,
the turnover and the roster. You start putting all those
things together. But it doesn't make me hate Deon Sanders
and thinks he's an idiot or you know, making these
claims that he isn't good enough or shouldn't be a coach. No,

(04:27):
I don't see it that way. Right, those things that
were said about him from one reporter seemed like personal attacks.
And I get it. They're his opinion, But your opinion
can be an attack too. If you've been in the
marriage and if you had an argument, you know your
opinion can be an attack.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
He is working.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
This is not some guy who's working or so called working.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
And he's has an internet.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Website, he's on a team, he's a full blown columns
for the Denver Post.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
The reputable newspaper paper.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Okay, and if this guy was out of bounds, his
newspaper would let him know he's out of bounce. People
in the newspaper business have been fired, reprimanded for doing
all kinds of stuff. There is a watchdog on this
because the newspaper is liable. It's not like a guy
who has a website and he's living in his mom's
basement and you can say whatever, throw whatever you want

(05:31):
up against the wall and nothing can happen to you
because you have no assets. Nobody can sue you e
from But if you own a newspaper, people can come
after your assets and your money.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
So there is a degree of.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Professionalism that he already has to abide by.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
That's not for Dion. If you want to bring.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
A case against him to the newspaper, I have no issues,
and you can cite examples or whatever, and then you
can have a meeting and have that conversation.

Speaker 7 (06:01):
Well, let me ask you a question based on that
what you just said. Yep, what if they did and
the paper was like, no, we're good.

Speaker 5 (06:10):
But then that says the paper doesn't believe that you're.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
So now the next step may be we're going to
handle it ourselves.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
No, the next step is he gets to ask any
question he wants because he's a credited member of the
media and you, Dion Sanders or anybody else have a
right to say, no, comment or not answer. That's my
only issue from is whether or not he has the
right to ask the question. You don't have to answer.

(06:40):
I've had plenty of players not want to answer. They
think I'm too tough. They think I mean.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
Whatever it is, that's fine. That doesn't mean I can't.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
What's that mean?

Speaker 7 (06:49):
I mean, I'm the nicest guy going no, no, no, no, no, okay.

Speaker 8 (06:54):
But you don't get up what you say? You said,
Mary mack, Well, why do you want you on my
head like that? I thought we were you know, no.

Speaker 7 (07:04):
No, okay, no, Well look we heard, we know what
you think, we know what I think. Let's hear what
the people think. All right. We got Josh in Arizona.
You on the odd couple with Rob and E from
what you got. Thanks for holdings, doing good, bro, doing great?

Speaker 2 (07:19):
What's up? Josh?

Speaker 9 (07:20):
Rob?

Speaker 10 (07:20):
Before I started, want to commend you and Chris because
a friend or full y'all call it out as you
see it. It doesn't matter if you're friends with the
people or you like the people.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Y'all.

Speaker 10 (07:30):
Y'all talk on the issue as you see it and
I appreciate that from y'all coming from the media because
it don't happen too often.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Well, you know what, And I appreciate that, and Chris
and I pride ourselves on that.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
And you know this what we've been able to.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
Do over the last six years as two journalists, no
former athletes. And this is not shade on anybody who's
a former athlete, but no, no, no, but but they've
never put this is the first time in radio they
put two brothers on. You know what I mean, Yeah,
nobody played you know that it is And I.

Speaker 10 (08:03):
Just want to I just want to say on the
topic that hand, I think two things can be true. Well,
we have to understand we know who Dion is. Deon
is that guy with the perm that looked wet but
was dry with the icy uh chains on during draft
day telling the Giants, hey, look, I'm not taking this
textbook size test. Y'all ain't even drafted high enough to.

Speaker 11 (08:25):
Mess with me. So we know who he is.

Speaker 10 (08:28):
And I know he's been given the media a hard
time when they criticize him in different things because that's
just his nature and personality. It's not right. But what
I want to say is let's not act like journalists
and different ones aren't emotional in people too. So when
when they're coming in there and they're asking solid questions
and they're getting dogged out by Dion or whatever the

(08:48):
case is, that's not like like they can't disguise their
job and write these crazy headlines, creative headlines and have
some type of indebta about it through their job kind
of Oh, it's my job, but I'm making these headlines anyway,
and that's all I got to.

Speaker 9 (09:02):
Say about it.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Okay, Well, Rob Gi jump jump in here for a
second quickly.

Speaker 6 (09:07):
That is the role of a columnist is to have
an opinion. That's number one. Of course, a columnist is
not a reporter in that.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
Regard, no exactly.

Speaker 6 (09:13):
But number two to the last caller's point about Chris
and Rob over the years, we interviewed and sat down
with Deion Sanders at the Super Bowl a few years back,
so we interviewed him about ten fifteen minutes, sat with
him for another five to ten minutes, and the three
of you, I remember sitting there having a very personal,

(09:33):
calm conversation because he was very impressed. And as you
alluded to, Rob, that the odd couple was two black
journalists hosting a national show on a major network, and
how he was very impressed by you guys. He was
proud of you guys, and he said one thing about you,
and I listened to both of you, is that you've
always given to a straight no matter what. You guys

(09:55):
were fair and you were whether it was positive or negative.
That you guys were up front and you said what
you felt. And I totally respect that. So I would
assume hopefully if Dion's listening to this just one in Colorado,
that he could appreciate what Rob is doing because you
doing exactly what he was doing when we all hung
out and spoke for fifteen twenty minutes four or five
years ago.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
No doubt that. And that That's my point is you
don't have to like it. Just call it like you
see it.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
There'll be stuff that you like, stuff that you don't like, ephim,
but don't shut reporters out who are trying to do it.
Everybody's not perfect. I'm not saying all reporters are right.
There are people who are just like. They're bad doctors,
bad lawyers, right, bad judges, they're bad sports writers.

Speaker 5 (10:37):
I agree eight seven seven ninety nine on five we.

Speaker 7 (10:41):
Got Tim and it in atl You on the Odd
Cup with Robert e from What you got Chillie, Tim?

Speaker 5 (10:45):
What's up buddy?

Speaker 12 (10:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (10:47):
Whatever's going man?

Speaker 5 (10:50):
How are you good?

Speaker 11 (10:52):
Man?

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Tired?

Speaker 11 (10:53):
I was in Chicago this week, so we'll pad had
to be and see.

Speaker 5 (10:58):
But oh you were Yeah, great, great time.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
It looked like it was joyful and the TV ratings
went through the roof.

Speaker 5 (11:04):
It looked like it was a good time. Looked like it.

Speaker 11 (11:06):
Yeah, yeah, it was awesome, man, it was awesome. I'm
telling of all these fanboys calling in for dion Sanders
and nobody's not telling the truth. Let's face it, Dionna
has been flamboyant since he was at Florida State, when
he was here in Atlanta, to the forty nine ers,
to the Cowboys, even when he was a handlyst on

(11:27):
you know, on the NFL network, whatever he was on.
It's like, you can't put it out there, man, And
that's kind of thing that bothered me, like Lebron with
his son, that you can't put stuff out there and want,
you know, all the attention and then you get pushed back.
Then it's a problem. No, it's got to be you know,
if you're going to be out there like that, then
be big enough to take it because you ask for it.
You know. It's like the same when people say when

(11:49):
you talk crazy to me, I'm talk crazy to you.
So you know, you you do this and you want
the attention for it. You're known for the prime time
and the high stepping and all that stuff, So it
comes with the territory. I don't think you should cry
about it later, you know, with somebody kicks back on it.
So you know you gotta take the good with the bed.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
No doubt to Yeah, appreciate it, and we're going to
continue this. Do you have a problem with Dion Sanders
borring members of the media from asking questions and should
other reporters boycott the program and response? I'm telling you
if I worked in Denver, I would not allow them
to do that, even if that guy was a competing
columnist against me. So we'll continue this conversation with you next.

on Fox is the telephone number. And we're talking about
Dion Sanders and whether or not it's cool that he's

(14:29):
borring members of the media of asking questions, especially his
columns from the Denver Post, and should the other reporters
boycott the program since they've singled out one columnists eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox, And I know there
are more people here for us Ethan.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yeah, we got Kevin in Culver City, NA. Couple with
Robin Ethan.

Speaker 6 (14:47):
What you got good all the time.

Speaker 13 (14:51):
Well, so so let's say, I'm so glad you fan's
there with you Rob on this subject. He'p being a
player look, you're gonna have reporters that you don't like,
that you don't like to deal with. But some of
his questions are very clownish, trollish of course. But if
you don't like what he asked, you just to go
Bryce Sopper, the Bryce Opper route. That's a clown question, bro.

Speaker 7 (15:11):
You know.

Speaker 13 (15:12):
Look, another part of it is the media is part
part responsible of making coach prime the phenomenon what he is,
not the player, but the coach. The stories, the sound bites,
that's from the media. That's from the press. So that
million dollar salary, that bravado that the press helps that.
So I think Deans would just take the you know,

(15:33):
athlete approach and say, hey, come on, bring it what
you got for me. You know, if you don't like
the question, you know, come with some better do your
job right, rite better questions, right, better columns. You know,
call them out to go back and forth. There's nothing
wrong with that, but you know, you know, embrace it,
embrace the debate, and embrace all reporters. Not everybody's going
to be featuring the creams as you guys know, you know,
doing the sports no doubt.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
Good, Well said cav Thank you for the call eight
seven ninety nine.

Speaker 7 (15:57):
On Fox, we got Scott in North Carolina, you on
the eye couple with Robinie from What you Got?

Speaker 14 (16:04):
Hey, Man, what's up? How y'all doing good?

Speaker 4 (16:05):
Bro?

Speaker 10 (16:05):
Man?

Speaker 2 (16:06):
What's up?

Speaker 5 (16:06):
How are you?

Speaker 14 (16:08):
I'm doing good?

Speaker 5 (16:08):
Man?

Speaker 14 (16:09):
Like I understand your reference when you say about the
manager doctor Doolittle, because he's little at his job. I
kind of I like that. But when they say profit
fake profit and drinking his kool aid, that has much
to do with his character. I mean you look at
his team. Yeah, they started off good and did that

(16:29):
and they can improve. But going after this character technic
character that seems off put in and he could decline
to answer his questions and he could just say I'm
not answering your question.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
And that's what I'm saying. I'm saying that that that's
nothing wrong. If Dion just said no comment or I'm
not going to answer your question, but allow the guy
to ask his quest.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
I don't have an issue with that.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
I'm not saying that Dion is obligated to answer every question.
That is not what I'm saying. So, but I appreciate
the call, Thank you so much. Eight seven seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (17:04):
Nine Appreciate that Scott, we got Ken in California. You
only our couple with Robbinie from what you got.

Speaker 9 (17:10):
Hey, Robbie friend, man, Hey Rob, I just want to
say real quick, without Chris, you can kill him the
stage com vacation and.

Speaker 10 (17:21):
We're good.

Speaker 9 (17:23):
And now that you got infront on the today, I'm
not going to read the cathedral Bolls tonight.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Brother.

Speaker 8 (17:29):
I have no idea what you're talking about, but it's
all good.

Speaker 9 (17:35):
You know, you can get some boyd the issues. No,
I don't want your banding the boycotting the common or
the reporters or whether they ask stupid questions of personal questions.
But you know what, Deon's gonna be onything. You should
just say hey, next question and move on.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
And all right, appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (17:57):
Appreciate that man we got uh, we got Mamed Dre
in Massachusetts on the couple.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
I believe in what you got?

Speaker 4 (18:03):
What up?

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Dray? What up?

Speaker 4 (18:05):
How you doing?

Speaker 10 (18:06):
Thanks for taking my call at TGI Friday. Listen, Deon standers, Okay,
coach Prime, if you're big enough, todition it out. And
the majority of your aura and personality is all these
media appearances that you do. You know, and you're larger
than life, then you have to be big enough to
take it. This is a huge double standard. And again
for deon standards who kind of cloaks himself to somebody

(18:30):
of faith and somebody of belief and somebody you know,
with a moral comfass you know, then you have to
take that cross examination. You can't just position yourself and
make yourself out to be, you know, this larger than
life figure who also has a moral composition and then
not allow for questions about those qualities. So the double

(18:50):
standard in and of itself is glaring, and I think
that the media should take it an asserted response to this,
because again, funnom line is this football, basketball. The fourth
estate is what makes professional sports what it is.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
It's what makes this Covery different from any other country
in the world.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
It is.

Speaker 10 (19:11):
And so that the reck the lack of acknowledgment A
and then to censor or to prohibit is just completely
out of line with our principals. And then the bottom
line is what makes you as rich and successful as
you are, so you have to have it, and I
think the media should push back.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
All right, thanks Adrey, I have a great weekend. Eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
Rob G, we want to bring you in on this
and from at this point, there are a couple of
teams that are kind of their quarterbacks are up for grabs,
like no one is named who's going to be the
starting quarterback in New England and in Pittsburgh. I guess
is that the reports that those two teams.

Speaker 6 (20:02):
Yeah, I mean, I thought we're gonna do baseball here,
but absolutely, Oh you did say there are two different
quarterback battles that are literally coming down to the wire.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
In New England.

Speaker 6 (20:14):
Jared Mayo has still not declared whether or not she
be drowd. Mayo has not publicly declared whether or not
Jacoby Brissett or rookie Drake may will be starting Week one.

Speaker 5 (20:25):
I thought his nickname was hauled to Mayo, but that's
a story.

Speaker 6 (20:28):
I think he has an endorse meal with Mayo. I
think he does for real. Even though they said coming
into camp that Brissette was the QB one and when
asked about it, Mayo says yeah, I think Jacoby still
ore QB one, but refuses the name of the Week
one starter. Moving westward a little bit to Pittsburgh, that

(20:50):
quarterback battle has been ongoing now basically all off season.
Where we thought Russell Wilson was going to be the favorite,
looked like he was gonna be the guy, some how
injured his calf during a sled drill. I don't know
what a quarterback we're doing with the sled drill. Open
the door for Justin Fields. He hasn't really done much
to steal the job, but even still Mike Tomlin as well,

(21:13):
refusing to name a Week one starter in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
They just don't know yet.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
They don't Yikes, you don't know who's gonna be the
quarterback really, so what are you waiting? The last preseason
game is really going to determine from No, I can't
determine who's gonna be No, But I think.

Speaker 7 (21:31):
The closer you get to the regular season, the less
you have to talk about it outside of the building.
Right when you don't have a clear cut, then you're
trying to buy time, right because the answers are coming
after you don't have a right like what's going on?

(21:51):
What's going on now, it's just speculation. We're speculating. No,
who's gonna be this and who's gonna be that. The
teams that know, they've already hey, this is what's gonna happen,
they know, right, So obviously I'm sure Mike Tomlin has
no idea do we go? You know, vet experience, Championship

(22:11):
predigree are based on, you know, someone who's more exciting,
who can get out of a jam. Offensive line isn't
as good as you know it usually is in Pittsburgh. Like,
there are more things to weigh in Pittsburgh than just
all right, let's just name one and go out there.

(22:31):
You gotta neither one of them are great, like lock
In for sure, So you have to start weighing the
pros and the cons of each, and that's gonna take
some time.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
It's gonna take some time.

Speaker 7 (22:46):
Like watching the preseason game, watching Pittsburgh play in the preseason,
watching Russell was tough to watch, and then having you know,
Justin Field's come in, it was tough to watch, but
there was a bit of excitement there in terms of
when things broke down, which they did a lot. He
was able to extend plays and pick up yards with

(23:06):
his feet. So you have to as a as a coach,
as a GM, as a staff, you have to figure
out what's conducive, what can we win with more when
it comes to these two individual quarterbacks and who do
we really trust.

Speaker 4 (23:21):
I just I don't think a preseason game determines that.
I just can't not know. It's this season is camp,
it's all of those things. It's camp because it can't
be the games like a lot of times, you just can't.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
It can't be based off of that.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
So if somebody comes out a third string quarterback and
he's eleven and eleven and makes all the passes, he's
gonna jump over the first string quarterback because he was
perfect and that I mean, like that's not You got
to take a look at everything. You have to go
on with the plan, and unless somebody is really awful
and somebody emerges as something that is unusual or unprecedented

(23:58):
or something where you go, you know what, I think
Colin Kaepernick is going to be better for us because
I watched him all in practice and you know what
I mean, and I think I can work with this
guy and there's something of that level but to look
at Russell, Wilson and Daniels and and say, some game

(24:19):
in a preseason or a couple of series is going
to determine who's going to be the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
I can tell you this.

Speaker 7 (24:26):
Let me tell you this. All four quarterbacks are playing tomorrow.
So that lets you know that the decision will come
down to who plays the best. Case in point, my
rookie year, the starter played in the fourth preseason game.
I played in the fourth preseason game, and whoever was

(24:47):
the best, whoever played the best in that game, end
up starting week one that very next week. It does
happen like that. It happens. So and guess what, you're
going to get the best out of both, because if
they know that going into it, then that's what they're

(25:08):
going to do. You you're going to find out right now.
And it's fourth three, and look, it should be more
conducive to playing well because a lot of starters won't
be playing out there. So you want to go out
there and you want to look like a starting quarterback.
It's clear cut. It's it's it's black and white. It's

(25:30):
right there. It's up to you take it or leave it.
And I'm okay with you.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
People have a bad day at the office.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
That shouldn't can't be can't beat tomorrow, I mean, can't
beat them?

Speaker 5 (25:41):
Why can't it?

Speaker 7 (25:42):
No, because you've had all camp, you've had preseason, you've
had this is it?

Speaker 5 (25:45):
So So if.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
You're if you're the better quarterback, you're and and you
have a bad day, that's going to erase everything else
you did because you had a bad day in the
final pay.

Speaker 7 (25:54):
If the competition is on the line, Yes, because what
coaches want is when the competition is, when the lights
are on, when you have to compete and solidify something,
much like the regular season or the playoffs or when

(26:15):
games count. You go out there and you solidify it,
you lock it in. So absolutely yes, one game can
dictate a career. I got thirteen years out of the
NFL with one game. Yeah, that's a that's a real
thing though. Yeah, but it wasn't just that game.

Speaker 4 (26:37):
You had proven to them in practice as well for
you to even be in that position.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
Absolutely right. I had to move up to death chart.

Speaker 7 (26:45):
When I got the training camp, I was the fourth
left tackle. As I worked my way through training camp,
I became the second right tackle. A whole nother position.
And when it came down to the rubber meeting the road,
Artschell said, Corey, you play the first quarter, e From,

(27:05):
you play the second, you're the third, e from, you're
the fourth. Whoever plays the best A starting against Carolina
next week. I buckled my helmet and stood on that
saline at the foot of the sideline. I couldn't wait
for the second quarter to start.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
And you cried like a baby when you found out.

Speaker 7 (27:27):
No, I didn't cry. I just it validated me. It
validated what I thought when I got drafted in the
seventh round that I belong. So what I'm saying is,
if I'm a coach, I'm going to put the best
eleven on the field. I'm going to give you an
opportunity to take the job or give it away. Bottom line,

(27:48):
it can't be any clearer than that.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
That's what you want.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
As it's gonna be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 7 (27:56):
I think it'll be Russell Wilson. In my heart, I
think it'll be Russell Wilson.

Speaker 5 (28:00):
That's what I think too.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
We'll see, all right, A few Major League Baseball clubs
could be keeping their own players out of the Hall
of Fame.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
I mean, is this ridiculous? We'll explain that next.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
Right after we get off the air and from here
this and I want to hear your thought on this.
Being a former athlete, Rob G. Paul Skeins is having
a unbelievable rookie season for the Pittsburgh Pirates started the
All Star Game. Very few rookies get to do that,
and Rob G, what are their plans now?

Speaker 6 (29:50):
For the second time this week, Rob we are being
robbed of history because Detroit Tigers already announced that as
Tark Scoobo would not be making another start on regular
rest this season, which doesn't seem like a big deal
until you realize that school Ball has a chance to
become just the what is it, the eleventh player ever
to win the pitching Triple Crown. Yep, So he's unlikely

(30:12):
to make another regular start this season, which means he's
more unlikely to complete the triple crown. Not to be outdone,
the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have right handing phenom Paul Skeins
pitch six quarters innings yesterday, they've announced that he is
also not going to be making a regular rest start
the rest of the way, which is important because as

(30:35):
a result, even though he came out like Gangbusters you mentioned,
started the All Star Game because of that, because he
is not going to be making more pitching starts the
rest of the way, or as many as he should. Right,
he is no longer even the favorite to win National
League Rookie of the Year.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
And an aphram, you're this is like his resume, he's
a phenom, right, resume for the Hall of Win Rookie
of the Year. You might win a couple of young
do you know what I mean? Like you're taking away
this guy's resume for really no reason.

Speaker 5 (31:09):
He's young, he's not heard.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
Why are you not playing the guy and letting him
pitch when Rookie of the Year these awards are special.

Speaker 7 (31:23):
Yeah, that's an odd one. Now, if there was some
type of injury, are you know they were trying to avoid,
you know, like you know something that he nicked up
and they just you know, that would be something. But
other than that, you gotta let these young men play.
That's what they're there for. You're paying them to play.

(31:45):
You're paying them to be great, just like they are.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
Can I give you a guy an example, he's still pitching.
He's forty one years old. Justin Berlander.

Speaker 5 (31:54):
Okay, he's gonna go to the.

Speaker 4 (31:56):
Hall of Fame, nine time All Star, won a couple
World Series, all this other stuff.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
Guess what he was.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
He was the Rookie of the Year in two thousand
and six and he's still pitching.

Speaker 5 (32:07):
He got hurt.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
He was the Comeback Player of the Year in twenty
twenty two, and he's still pitching. What are you doing?
Justin Verlinder was Rookie of the Year. He's forty one.
He's still pitching. They didn't baby him. What are we
doing with these guys?

Speaker 7 (32:22):
Yes, it's difficult, especially if the player wants to play.
Then I look, man, you're paying him the money.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
Let him play, Professor, he's hurt, right, or there's an
issue he from.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Up with you.

Speaker 7 (32:34):
Yes, if there is no underlying issue or something that
they're trying to protect from that, you know, strain, you know,
whatever that is.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
Twitch.

Speaker 7 (32:43):
If there's none of that, then shame on them. As
from coming from a player, right, yeah, coming from the
player scheme.

Speaker 5 (32:50):
You don't think he wants to be the National League
rookiey year.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
Yes he does. I made the All Rookie team. That's
huge for me.

Speaker 5 (32:56):
Absolutely. From It's something you cherished, didn't you.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Yeah, what do you? Brother?

Speaker 7 (33:00):
I was a seventh round draft pick to make the
All Rookie team. What, yes, that's what I mean. I
like Peyton Manning was on the All Rookie team with me.

Speaker 5 (33:09):
That's crazy, right right?

Speaker 4 (33:10):
And yeah, and for Paul Skan Fred Taylor, I mean,
those are some big time names and of course you
were right there with them. Skeens gets to start the
All Star Game. The last rookie to start the All
Star Game, as you know for pitch was Mark the
Bird Fidrick in like nineteen seventy six. That nineteen seventy six,

(33:30):
and Paul Skeen's is doing it in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Wow. Yeah, it's something up. Man. I don't know about that.
I don't know about that though.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
Yeah, I just I just think they keep robbing fans,
taking guys out from their pitching a no hitter.

Speaker 5 (33:45):
Oh no, that's good. You just pitched seven strong hit.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
That's tough.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
Okay, come on out. That's okay, that's enough. Thank you
for what you.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
Know how hard it is to go to a game
and see a no hitter, Like you don't go to
a ball game all the time and see somebody pitch
a no hit, a perfect game, I've been covering baseball
for almost forty years. I've seen a handful two or
three in forty years.

Speaker 5 (34:07):
They don't happen.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
That's crazy, crazy from.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
Well, we had a couple of shows this week. I
appreciate your insight, your knowledge.

Speaker 7 (34:17):
Of course, man, and it was it was real good.
It was definitely will you guys enjoy your partnership. Chris
will be back. Rob is giving me the thumbs up
saying I stole the show. He's talking to me in
my ear saying the show wouldn't be the show when
one of you guys aren't here without me. So I
you know, I appreciate that Rob coming from you. That

(34:39):
means a lot. Rob the super producer.

Speaker 5 (34:41):
So that's so.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
Rob is basically saying, you're the new odd couple side piece?

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Is that what you are?

Speaker 7 (34:45):
I'm a side piece man, until y'all want to put
me into the throuttle. I think Odd Throuple get a
new intro. I think that's that sounds good man, that's
kind of freaky. You get polyamorous up in this thing
on on on the radio already.

Speaker 5 (35:01):
All right, thanks for everybody.

Speaker 8 (35:03):
Jason Smith is next, stick and stay America.
