Speaker 2 (00:22):
You're listening to the Best of The Odd Couple with
Chris Brusson and Ron Parker.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Steve Young.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
The great Hall of Fame quarterback THEA was recently on
the radio in San Francisco, and he was lamenting. You know,
he's a guy that won a Super Bowl as you know,
as the as the guy won two others with Joe
Montana as man Sana's backup. But he was lamenting, what's
going on with the San Francisco forty nine ers. And
(00:52):
I gotta be honest. Look, I like the Niners, you know,
I like party. I don't like the vibes I'm getting
right now. Trent Williams is sitting out, wants a bigger contract,
contract extension, and his declared and he won't play until
he gets it. Of course, Brandon I has asked for
(01:14):
a trade unless he gets paid and that hasn't worked out,
so we don't know how that's going to end. But
Steve Young was saying that, hey, maybe these guys should
think about winning more than money.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Here he is.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
That's where the agent's got to be able to figure
out a way to bring that player to see the
values other than the dollars, to see the things that
you keep in context, bro that there's a lot of
great players out there that are playing with brutal teams
that have no chance to see the full measure of
who they could be as a player. And that's not you.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
All right, VJ. Your thoughts.
Speaker 6 (01:53):
I like Steve Young, so I'll start there, and I
think he always speaks well about the game of football
and currently in football. But I didn't like this, and
that's because I think they know, Steve, that they have
a chance to win.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
They've been to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (02:07):
Some of these guys have been twice and they've come
up short both times. But in the business of pro sports,
we talked about this yesterday about God's getting their bread.
You have to get your money because this game isn't long.
This game isn't cond of your body, it ain't cond
of your joints. Your ligaments, your bones. It's not kind
to your brain. So you got to get your money
and get paid. And if I'm Trent Williams, for instance,
(02:28):
right to me, best left tackle in the league, so
I want to be paid? Is that Brandon Nyuk? Hey,
I'm a big part of this. Don't act like I'm not.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Now.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
I don't think Brandayuk is thirty million, thirty five million,
thirty three million, that type of guy.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
But he's more.
Speaker 6 (02:42):
He's worth more than what he's making right now, and
he only wants to be paid fairly Chris, for his
services and what he brings to the team.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
And this kind of falls into the line, Chris.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
You know old school Geez used to tell us a
man never comments on another man's pockets, you know what
I'm saying. This kind of fell there for me because
I believe that they know that there's some guys on badge.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
If you don't think everybody in Carolina, Yeah, we're gonna go.
Speaker 6 (03:04):
Out and play hard, We're gonna go out on bus
all butt, but we have no shot at winning the
super Bowl this year. They know that. So I don't
need a veteran to reiterate on that. I would actually
like it. If he said, look, they're about winning, we
know it. Let's get these guys paid so we don't
have to go through all of this and we have
to talk about this. I think he kind of missed
the boat on this one. It's kind of like old
guy kind of banging on the younger the younger generation.
(03:26):
But I think Chris, they know what's at stake, they
know what they have to do, and they know the
position that they're in.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
They didn't hate him to say it.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
And I think the other thing is this, and I
hear where he's coming from.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
I'm not mad at him.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
This is a team where they are feeling the pressure
they need to win the Super Bowl this year, and
from they that means Kyle Shannahan on down.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Because Kyle Shanahan is we know.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
We've seen him, whether it was as the offensive coordinator
for the Atlanta Falcons in that game where they gave
up the twenty eight to three lead to the Tom
Brady and his offense. He made some boneheaded mistakes and
of course he had the lead against the Chiefs with
Jimmy Garoppolo's quarterback and all of a sudden didn't want
(04:21):
to run the football when they had a great running
game and that's what it carried them.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
To the Super Bowl. And the same thing.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
You know, he had a chance this year to beat
the Chiefs and came up short. So Kyle Shanahan, as
great of an offensive mind as he is, his play
calling in the Super Bowls, particularly late in those Super Bowls, is.
Speaker 6 (04:43):
Under question Yeah, questionable, right, yes, sir. And then we
know this team.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
They got all these high priced guys, and if brock
Perdy gets paid, and right now all indications are that
he will, next year, they're gonna lose some of those guys.
So that's another reason they need to win it now.
And then finally, VJ. They've been knocking on the door
for the past five years and when they've been healthy,
(05:11):
they've been right there and they haven't gotten over the hump.
And mentally and emotionally, that can wear you down after
a while. If you don't get over that hill, it
can beat you down mentally. So they need to get
it done now. So I get where Steve Young is
coming from. But here's what I say, and I echo
what you said about, is these dudes need to get paid.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
This is not forever. And the thing is this as well.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
We know, look, ultimately, this is a job for these guys.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
And they want to win.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
Now, I don't question that any of these guys want
to win, But at the same time, they want to
get paid and take care of their families. And I
know people Trent Williams his last deal was I think
six years, one hundred and thirty eight million. So people
are like, well, he got plenty of money, and that's true,
and he should have enough to last a lifetime.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
But these guys do retire early. Just in general.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Even if you Lebron James is gonna be done playing
basketball at what forty two years old.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
That's young younger than me.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
I think that's younger than you too, Like you got
a whole life, right, You've.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Got a whole life to live.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
And again, they have enough money, but still that's why
when they play the game, they do want to make
a ton of money. And here's where I'll make the distinction.
I'll add this that you didn't say for Trent Williams
as a left tackle and Brandon Ayuk as a receiver.
(06:45):
Yes they want to win the Super Bowl. Yes they
want to be champions, but let's just keep it real.
Winning a Super Bowl does not impact the legacy of
position players.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
At all the way it does for quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
Right, yeah, I mean it just Randy Moss is ruwed
as one of the greatest receivers ever, never won a
Super Bowl and it doesn't impact his legacy at all.
Calvin Johnson Tyreek Hill left the Super Bowl team. They
went on to win two more Super Bowls without him, But.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
He made the right decision. VJ.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
He had to go get paid. Even if he didn't
have that Super Bowl, he still would have made the
right decision.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Now, I think.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
He's gonna have to play regardless if they don't pay him.
It makes no sense for him to sit out because
he won't get his fourteen million dollars, which is a
significant chunk of change.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
That's what he's old this year.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
He won't get that, and he won't accrue time to
free agency, so he'll be in the same position next year,
so it won't benefit him to sit out.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
So I think he's gonna have to play either way.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
But I just think that's something that's the business man.
I'm not mad as Steve Young for being like, man, look,
we got a chance to win its special and he's right,
But quarterbacks get.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
The lion's share of the credit for winning Super Bowls.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Yep, And so I'm not I understand these dudes putting
the money first.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
Absolutely, And to talk about the pressure point that you're
talking about, there is a lot of pressure. I thought
there was pressure on Shanahan last year. I thought that
if they lost that game or got blown out, if
they decided to move on from Shanahan, I wouldn't have
been mad at the front office because yeah, because there
were Remember John Lynch and that front office made a
statement before the season started that you know, everybody's kind
(08:39):
of you know on egg shows, get we gotta go
get this done. We can't just keep getting to the
conference championship game. I'll point something out too, about the
pressure of their schedule. They have two strings of games
where it's Cowboys at the Bucks home against Seattle at
the Packers at the Bills. That's a heavy five game stretch.
And then they finished off Rams at the Dolphins, Lions
at the Cards. So if they don't have these guys,
(09:02):
this could they got these guys they're thirteen and four,
they're fourteen and three. But if they don't have these guys, Okay, now,
the NFC is now shook up, But I think guys
show up and play. I think they get these deals
done because you just can't have two starters Chris out
trying to go to a super Bowl and repeat what
you did.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Which one do you think is most important for this offense?
Speaker 6 (09:23):
Is gonna be Trick Williams for me, because they got
to be able to run the ball. They got to
be able to run the ball.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
His past block. Yeah, because the rest of that line
isn't that strung.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
Yeah, if you look at their skill positions, you got
who wants some of Deebo Samuel?
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Right?
Speaker 6 (09:33):
Okay, so they got McCaffrey, de you got kittled. That's
three are used to fourth. He's not better than any
of those three guys. You would agree with that.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Look.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
A few years ago, I believe Deebo Samuel was the
best football player. Yeah, just period football player right in
the league. Yep, I don't think that anymore. The injuries
have taken the toll.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
I think I yuk is their number one receipt. Really.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
It's still so much that Deebo can do for your
offense though.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
Yeah, but he's not really doing that anymore, you know.
I mean, he doesn't run it as much. I think
I Yuk is a better receiver. I think deebo is.
Like I said, he's a terrific football player. And I'm
not trying to disparage I feel you, but I do
think at this point Iuk is probably better. But I
agree with you that they of these two, it's trip.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Take Yeah, you take care of tackle for Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm

iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 7 (10:40):
Paulie Fusco with Tony Fusco, you know, as the host
of the number one rated Paully and Tony Fusco Show.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
We get tons and tons of fan mail every day,
piles of it.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
In fact, Tony, why don't you open up one of
those letters right now and read what's inside?
Speaker 7 (10:53):
Hey, listen to this. Dear Paulie and Tony, your sports
takes the dumbest and most terribly.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Opened this other one. Diem, Paulie and.
Speaker 7 (11:02):
Tony, you suck more than anyone. Wait, Deem, Paulie and Tony,
you guys are the absolute best there you go coming
up with the stupidest take.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
Just listen to Tony Fusco show on the iHeart Radio app,
Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Yeah, and Robs.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
There was an ESPN poll or something like that of players, right,
so why don't you share with us the findings of
what their polls showed.
Speaker 8 (11:30):
Sure, so ESPN surveyed one hundred and three anonymous players
to get their thoughts on all the quarterbacks around the NFL.
They asked them a series of questions, you know, who's
the goat, who's underrated? And when they asked who's overrated,
the guy receiving the most votes was the aforementioned Josh Allen,
and the reason throughout the entire response, both in this
(11:53):
ESPN article and actually yesterday in the Athletic piece for Quarterbacks,
heres anyone who was critical of Josh Allen to the
same thing.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Turnovers.
Speaker 8 (12:02):
Josh Allen had twenty two of them last season, the
second most of the NFL behind Sam Howell. Since twenty
twenty one, his fifty nine turnovers ranked second to Trevor Lawrence,
and since the start of the two thousand and eight season,
Allen's one hundred and two turnovers lead the NFL.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
There it is all right.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
Well, look, since you you were gonna trashing regardless, yep,
I guess that gives you a little fodder.
Speaker 6 (12:28):
Huh yeah, absolutely, I got it written out right here anyway.
And yesterday when we talked about the tiers like tier one,
I'm not saying Josh Allen's not good, not saying Josh
Allen had had a good career but overrated. I might
ride with that on my top ten list right now.
I might have him in night nine to eight, ten
in that range simply because, let me explain it, simply
because of the turnovers one hundred and two since twenty eighteen.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Turnovers hurt your team.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
I don't care how big you aren't how much you
can run over linebackers and defensive backs, and the touchdown
passes you throw.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
They have literally now in the playoff. I look this up.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
He hasn't been a big turnover machine in the playoffs.
And that's what Josh Allen defenders and Bill's Mafia will
run to and show you those number. Fine, but one
hundred and two of them in a regular season are
costing you games?
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Where are costing you?
Speaker 6 (13:12):
Playoff positioning and seeding to where you end up playing.
And then also last year at home, everything in your
hand and you let the Bill excuse me, you let
the Chiefs come in there and beat you out there.
The Chiefs, I get it, but you're at home, and
after the divisional game, I keep pointing out to this.
He played tremendous that day. That was not his loss.
But since then the following year, go look it up.
(13:33):
Vegas had him favorite to win the MVP, They had
the Bill's favorite to win the Super Bowl, and they
can't get back to the AFC Championship game. And people
still keep crowning this guy, and all he is doing
is get into wildcard and divisional rounds and being sent
home and he never gets any he never gets any
criticism for it's everybody else's fault around him. Now, going
into this year, Chris all new receivers. We just heard
(13:55):
the great be friends Tether, Kareem Jackson is now big cut,
Jordan Poyer is now down in Miami, and you win,
and Keon Coleman is gonna be your guy. They tried with,
they tried with different running backs. They just won't run
the football. Last year a lot better than the previous
three years. This year, yeah, well, last year a lot
better than the previous three years. The previous three years,
their rankings were twenty four to twenty six and twenty
seven in the league. Running the football a lot better
(14:18):
last year. It needs to be better this year. But
we know, Chris, when it comes down to it, they're
gonna go away from the run. They're gonna put it
in the hands of Josh Allen, and Josh Allen's gonna
come up short and turn the ball over again. And
we're still gonna say, oh, but he's such a Tier
one quarterback. Stop it. He missed his window. He won't
win the Super Bowl. Yes, he's missed his wind. Absolutely,
(14:38):
he has missed this window. His wind was his window
one year.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
No his wind. No, he that's the only time they
got close. It's been well, no, it's been closely.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
How is he twenty six years old and he missed
his window twenty six?
Speaker 3 (14:49):
He's got to be older than twenty six. Crazy.
Speaker 6 (14:51):
Oh, I know he's not old, but I think he's
got to be older than twenty six. But his window,
his window to win twenty turn twenty eight, his window
to win a suit in my just my opinion, his
window to win a super Bowl, Chris, not go out
to make good plays, not go out to make good
hoighan a super Bowl win?
Speaker 3 (15:07):
It's closed. No, yes, it's closed. No it's not. Dude,
ain't that good? It's not true.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
That's no.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
If your window close, if you're an all time great,
there is not one all time great quarterback whose career
whose window to win a super Bowl was closed.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
At twenty eight, you have Josh Allen as an all.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Time played like he's He's gonna be a Hall of Famer.
That's what I mean. He's gonna be a Hall of famer.
He is on a Hall of fame borderline. He is
on a hall of fame trajectory. He's played seven six
years in the league. If his super Bowl window is closed,
then my good, he ain't that good. I'm not saying
(15:46):
he will even win a super Bowl, but I'm saying
his window is essentially the prime of his career. Lamar Jackson,
Joe Burrow, obviously my homes in a whole different tier there.
Our super Bowl window is the prime of their career period.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
I disagree.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
You could be in your say his window, that's ridiculous. No,
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Here's the thing, hold on, you spoke last five years.
I get it.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
And look, Josh Allen got flaws his game. He is
reckless with his body and with the ball. So I'm
not I'm not gonna gloss over his flaws. But you
talked about the interceptions. Well, who has led the league
in total touchdowns over the last five years. It's it's
(16:35):
not Patrick Mahomes. It's Josh Allen by a wide margin.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Josh Allen.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
We talk, we are looking at arguably the greatest quarterback
to ever play the game, and Josh Allen. I'm talking
about Patrick Mahomes. Of course, Josh Allen in the last
five years has twenty four more touchdowns than that guy,
Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Who's the best effort And what's it done for him? Well,
he has what'sn't done for anybody. But Patrick Mahomes is
winning all the Super Bowl. But that's the point.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
I mean, that's the thing. Mahomes is. This is the
Jordans I call I was. I think I was the first.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Maybe I'm wrong, but I called Mahomes Jordan esque the
first year he was playing, and he has been like
Michael Jordan and that he's hogging up all the championships
and nobody's eating.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
I mean, I get it that he hasn't win it.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Every year, but you know what I'm saying, right, And
here's the thing, VJ and I know you, I'd be
shocked if you don't agree with this. Let's go outside
of Mahomes and this is why he's on the tier
by himself.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Every single quarterback in the league got some flaws, every
single one.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
I can look at Lamar and say he has to
improve his passing and he hasn't played well in the playoffs.
I can look at Joe Burrow and say, Bro, you
gotta say hell cliche.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
One of the best abilities is availability preach right, and
you're not there. Josh Allan, you're too reckless.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
You do have to protect the football, bro Dak Prescott,
you look like you get a little bit scared when
the playoffs. All right, I mean, Aaron Rodgers, what if
you done for me lately, bru in the NFC title games? Heck,
the one you won and went to the super Bowl
and won it, you still didn't play well in the
NFC championship game.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
So I'm just saying, like.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
I could go on and on down the line, and
Josh Allen has his flaws. But I'm not gonna sit
here and say this dude is not a bad bad man.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Because he is. He is.
Speaker 6 (18:40):
I preface my comment by saying, I'm not saying he's
not good. I'm not here nine. No, I got to
hear the eight quarterbacks better than Larry. I got my
list here in my notebook somewhere. But what I'm talking about,
as far as his window being closed, I just want
to make sure I focus on that here for a second.
If you look at the team, it started with Dabo leaving, okay,
and then you lose your cordinators. I'm a big guy
(19:01):
in football. When coordinators start to walk out the door,
you may still have talent there, but the production of
the team or the unit, whether it's your special teams coordinator,
defensive coordinator, offenseive coordinator, is going to start to suffer
when you need it most. They'll put up numbers, they'll
put up highlights and make it look good, but when
it comes down to pushing all your chips in the
middle of the table, that's where that coordinator is going
(19:23):
to be missed. So it started with Brian Dowall. Okay,
then it started with Leslie Frazier. Now you've lost all
of your receivers.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
You keep losing. Let's get real.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
If the dog look, I agree with you that I
don't think this year that.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
The Bills are super Bowl contenders.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Yeah, and I think they'll make the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
I don't think they have. Rob Gs got them out
of the playoffs. That's his team that didn't. They fall off.
Rob's got a falling off.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
But that, to me, that's a team issue, and they're
going to improve over the years.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Like this is a kind of a rebuild. They're not
not really, you know that.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
To me, they're not rebuilding to the point where they
fall out of the post season. But this is a
bit of a rebuild or relaunch, and then whether it's
next year or the year after, they're gonna be right
back there near the top of the AFC. So that's
what I'm saying. I disagree. I agree this year, I
don't think they're super Bowl contented.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
No, they they.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Want be window to say that Josh Allen, at twenty
eight years old, will never like be in the super
Bowl mix again, which is what you're saying when you
say his window is closed.
Speaker 6 (20:28):
Is ludicrous. No, he won't be wild card in divisional round?
Is the best is gonna get Let me also point
this out. You want to talk about the future, there's
teams come to AFC. Number one this year is stacked. Okay,
so that's this year. The MC's not gonna get worse.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
CJ.
Speaker 6 (20:41):
Stroud in Houston. You know, I love the defense the
coach puts out there. I like Pittman, I like Taylor.
They have weapons there. If Anthony Richardson is that guy,
then you know they're gonna come up with Jacksonville. We
know Tennessee there might pick to be the worst team
in the league this year. It's either gonna be them
the Patriots. But the Dolphins are gonna be good. The
Ravens are gonna be good. Cincinnati gonna be good. Look
what Jimmy Berger's hardballs doing out here with the Chargers.
(21:03):
They're gonna be good. We already said my home red
all that. What what is that saying about his window,
Because because you're saying that they're not bad, you're saying
I don't think they're gonna be I don't think they're
gonna be better than these other teams. Have a better
chance at being better than them over the next number one.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
They're younger. Number one. They don't have quarterbacks. He's young.
Speaker 6 (21:23):
Okay, Chargers have Herbert younger, Burrow younger.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Younger was not close to Josh. I didn't say what
better than Josh? I bet you got too ahead of
Josh Allen? Of course I do. Okay, that's ridicious. That's
a fan list. It might be no way, it might be.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
It's better Tua can't win in a brisk and when
there's a breeze out, well, he's better than Josh.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Guess what.
Speaker 6 (21:49):
Guess what in the postseason, Josh Allen can't win, win
as a breeze out.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
It's all been a lot further home.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
And he give Josh Allen Tyreek Hill and Jayden Waddle
and that road game Stephan.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Digs eight. Diggs is not Tyree.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
I know that Tyreek Hill and and they don't have
Water was the number two?
Speaker 3 (22:11):
Is he better than Water? Yes?
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Water was the number two. And I don't know if
he's better now. His career has been better so far,
but I don't know that he's better.
Speaker 6 (22:19):
Real quick, I'll admit listen, I'll be real with you. No no,
I'll admit the tours. Yeah yeah, over him is I'm tripping, bro.
You know me, I don't have no problem like with
my little fandom. You know it is what we got,
you we got you try to clean it up. Watch
But but he to me when I say window closed,
I'm looking at the rest of the a f C.
I'm looking at his team, all the pieces they keep missing,
(22:41):
they keep losing.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
Guys.
Speaker 6 (22:43):
If trust me, these other teams are gonna get better,
They're gonna reach, they're gonna rea, and.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
They're gonna bounce to him on the platter. Listen there.
You must have to compete. Don't get me wrong. I
don't make the playoffs this year. Sean McDermot could be fired,
which you mean they can. They get a new head
coach and they got to start over with these and
it's just gonna plug and play. Josh.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
If you're a if you're that level of quarterback, then
your window is your prime.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
Okay, And now he's that level of quarterback.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and The
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
All right, same article.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
We were talking about the players voting Josh Allen in
an ESPN article the most overrated QB in the NFL.
Well one of the They had two VJ that were
tied for the most underrated, one being Brock Party, the.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Other Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Love it now, Stafford, he gets love here from these
one hundred and three anonymous players, but also Caleb Williams
wasn't anonymous? Best quarterbacks in the league were Aaron Rodgers?
That that's obviously his hero, but right now, Aaron Rodgers
obviously not the best quarterback. Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford
(24:03):
at number two and c J. Stroud praise Matthew Stafford
to the high heavens a couple of months ago. And
so do you think that Stafford has been underrated throughout
his career or is underrated now?
Speaker 3 (24:21):
And where are you at on his hall of fame?
Speaker 6 (24:24):
You know, bit, I love this topic because Maddie Stafford
is my guy. He's always been my guy since he
came out of West Texas High School and went off
to Georgia, Georgia. Chris always has players I've always had
kind of a crush on. They had Hines Ward at Quincy,
Carter Craig Lunkin at running back, They've alway aj Green.
There's always been these Georgia guys for some reason.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Not my team.
Speaker 6 (24:43):
Yeah, oh man, they just always have these guys. I
go between the hedges, ugger the dog, all of that.
He was one of my first kind of crushes of
a team that I don't cheer for in college football.
He was in Detroit for so long and everything was
just so bad there for so long. He just got
all the he got all the blame, right, that's the
quarterback position. He got all the blame. But let me
(25:04):
just mention rookie receiving record, pookin the coup. Who's his quarterback?
Oh it was Matthew Stafford single season receiving record. Meggie
Tron then did it again with my man, Coop. Coop's
having the party, right, I mean, he just he's part
of three huge receiving seasons also too, eight straight sixteen
to sixteen, which means sixteen games, sixteen starts. He's always
(25:27):
been available, fifty six thousand career yards, three hundred and
fifty seven touchdowns, and to me, if he's not first
second I can take, I can take second ballot. But
after that, now yeah, yes, why now why's sure fire.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Hall of not sure fire Hall of Fame? Yeah? And
I'm not saying he's not a Hall of Famer top ten.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
I just I think it's questionable.
Speaker 6 (25:51):
Man.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
It's question is beyond questionable. Super Bowl certainly, he's a
two time Pro Bowl, two time Pro bowler in how
many years does he played?
Speaker 6 (26:04):
How many they take three quarterbacks a year? And we
know discount pro bowler's you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (26:10):
You know how many dudes that made last year? Gardner
Minshew was in the Pro Bowl?
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Bro has been a pro bowler.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
That that don't mean the who was the dude the
backup for the Ravens who was a pro bowler?
Speaker 3 (26:22):
I think Mac Jones was no back.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
Jones point and he's only made two in fifteen years.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Promos different now though, Chris like, no.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
I know to vj Okay, I'm look I like Stafford too.
I don't like him as much as you and C. J.
Stroud and all these guys them because obviously had Jakwaski
Tart been able to hold onto the rock, then Matthew
Stafford don't even have that Super Bowl and he's actually
viewed as the goat and not in a good way,
rather than the hero. So I'm just saying, Stafford, I
(26:53):
know Detroit has been a bad organization, yes till recently,
but those teams have some play Calvin Johnson, you mentioned them,
the defense and Dominican Sue. They had some other nice
players and he could not get them over the hump.
I get that he throws a pretty ball and all that,
(27:13):
and you mentioned the stats and all that, but I
just look, maybe, not even maybe had he been linked
up with a Sean McVay and the team like the
Rams early in his career, he's probably a no doubt
Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
Yeah, no, I think he's a Hall just with two
Pro Bowls.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Man, that's gonna be uh, it's gonna be tough. Those
are basically his only accolades. He was a comeback Player
of the Year. Obviously he's won the Super Bowl. But
I mean the the accolades are missing, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (27:50):
But the accolades may be missing, but the totality of
his numbers or not, he is eleventh all time and touchdowns,
I mean.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
We're in an era I get that numbers matter.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
I would never say numbers don't matter, but you also
realize we are in an era where the top ten
quarterbacks statistically are all gonna be from the modern era
because they throw the football more, the rules are different.
Is look at Tom Brady. Tom Brady, there's no way
(28:22):
in his late or mid early and mid forties he
was as good as he was in his thirties when
he was winning that second run of Super Bowls.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
But statistically it's some of his best.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Mostly statistically his best years came in his forties because
it's easier now to rack up big numbers, so you
do have to. I know he did it with Megatron,
and I'm not I'm not trying to say Stafford's not nice.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
I'm just saying, when you say he.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
Might be a first ballot Hall of Famer, absolutely a
second ballot I think you gotta hold the phones that
just because the accolades aren't there. Yeah, the gaudy numbers
are there, but not much winning obviously, and not many again,
not minye Aco.
Speaker 6 (29:10):
He's gonna finish top ten and passing yards and passing touchdowns.
The list Tom Brady Hall of Famer, Breeze Hall of
Famer Manning, Hall of Famer, far of Hall of Famer,
Roethlisberg or Hall of Famer, Philip Rivers, Hall of Famer
Dan Marino and Rocks Rivers. We'll see, Yeah, I think.
I think I thinks event event he eventually gets in,
we'll see. I mean, right now, he's not a Hall
(29:31):
of Fame Matt Ryan, I will say, we'll see about.
But the point I'm making is the company he's gonna
be in, they're all gonna be Hall of Famers.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
You just mentioned two dudes that aren't definite Hall of Fame.
Speaker 6 (29:41):
I think, well, on Philip Rivers, we agree on Matt Ryan.
We just disagree with Philip Rivers. Philip Rivers a Hall
of Famer quarterback, he will have a gold jacket, maybe, I.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
Mean, and Philip Rivers is not a no brainer Hall
of Famer. I disagree. I think it is.
Speaker 6 (29:57):
I think it is if Dan foul Listen, if a
guy like Dan Foul else is in the Hall of Fame.
You're telling me Philip Rivers in the Hall of Famer. Yeah, well,
I'm not saying. Look, I'm not saying Rivers is not
a Hall of Famer. I think he's right there on
the borderline.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Yeah, I'm telling you he's not a definite Hall of Famer.
He's not a guy you can like. When we're Aaron Rodgers,
we all know gonna be a Hall of Famer. That
that's not Philip Rivers. And I'm not saying he's got
to be as good as Rogers, but he is not
a sure fire, no brainer, hall of famer.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
Top six and passes top six.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
I'm sorry, I says, people understand VJ that the numbers
are going to be skewed. That's like looking at Terry
Bradshaw's numbers and saying he couldn't play, or Troy Aikman's
numbers and saying he couldn't play.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
It was a whole different air. I get it, but
I would never say that. I look no but a lot.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Of But I'm just saying, when you you give me
the top ten, all that he ain't gonna be top
ten for long because a lot of these dudes playing
now are gonna rack up.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Better numbers now. I don't.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
It's gonna be hard, even in today's game with the
pass happy, it's gonna be hard for these guys to
reach seventy thousand Mahomes is gonna do it, but it's
gonna be hard as hell for these guys to reach
seventy thousand yards. If you look at even guys that's
playing today, Russell Wilson's at forty three. Russell Wilson's not
getting the fifty k. Joe Flacco's at forty three thousand,
He's not getting the fifty k. You got guys like
(31:15):
car and Cousins. They're both at thirty nine thousand. They're
not getting the fifty k.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
Carr, but those dudes are a whole level below the guys.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
We're talking.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
No, but I'm saying, even even if you bring me
a younger guy, you think Joe Burrow's gonna throw for
seventy thousand yards, I don't.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Well, he don't stay. If he stayed, hell if
