He and Chris open Hour 3 reacting to a recent tweet from Robert Griffin III where he asserted his belief that Travis Hunter should play both offense and defense at the NFL level. The guys weigh in on the debate with their own thoughts before moving into a discussion on whether they think Shedeur Sanders is a top five NFL draft pick. Finally, the guys close out the show talking about the Eagles being less than excited to play a game in Brazil this season.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
The day happened last night, and that was Dion Sanders.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Colorado Buffalo's hosting North Dakota State, which is a Division
one Double A school, and surviving thirty one to twenty six,
but not pummeling them the way you would think a
Big twelve team should when you're facing a team at
the lower level. But they got the w against the

(01:22):
team that has pulled some big upsets, and Travis Hunter,
in addition to Shaduur Sanders the quarterback, and Dion Sun's
son plus Jimmy Horn Junior all looked terrific. There's no denying,
even as Colorado's gonna take their lumps this year, I

(01:42):
think those three guys are legit and they'll probably all
be playing on Sundays at some point, certainly Shaduur and
Travis and I think Jimmy Horn Junior as well. But
let's stick on Travis Hunter, Martin. We'll get into Shaduur
a little bit later. But RG three, who we know

(02:04):
was just just released, let's say from ESPN, he's still
doing his thing. RG three is good. I think he's good,
and I think he's gonna be fine in his business.
I think, you know, ESPN should have should have kept him,
but hey, I'm not running the books over there. But anyway,

(02:24):
he tweeted something about Travis Hunter, who of course plays
receiver on offense and defensive back cornerback on defense.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Ian read to us what RG three tweeted.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Yeah, so RG three he said, quote, Travis Hunter keeps
showing that he can and should play both wide receiver
and CB cornerback in the NFL full time. Man had
seven catches for one hundred and thirty two yards and
three touchdowns at wide receiver, and played forty three snaps
on defense, making tackles and locking down his side of

(02:59):
the field.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
He is a unicorn, all right, Martin, you'll have the
first stab at this. What do your thoughts? I mean,
he's absolutely a unicorn.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
We don't see this, and I mean sho hal Tanie
Travis Hunter, like, I'm here to say it's.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Not quite show, hey, but I feel you. But you know,
we've seen it a little bit in football, but but
not like this, Chris, but this isn't show hay Well,
I haven't ever seen show.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Even Babe Ruth stopped pitching full time when he started
hitting the numerous home runs.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
So Chris, even guys like going back to Chris Gamble,
like I should say this had we've had two way
guys in the past and college football, I don't think
any team was as dependent on their two way guy
as much as Travis Hunter, as much as Colorado is
dependent on Travis Hunt.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Well, no, because it's a lesser team. But and I
feel you. I think it's somewhat like show Hey, I
just don't think it's to the extent show Hay is
something we have never ever seen. Charles Woodson played both ways,
but he wasn't playing but played both ways in the
NFL to some degree.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
But now again not like this.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
But you can't, you can't tell me this is like
show hey, I'm not going that far.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
But to me, it's it's a step up, not even
at the top level.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
But it's it's a step above what we've seen, like
just step above Diana's step above.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
I want you that.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
But again it's also not at d NFL level yet. Sure,
but that's what we're talking about. So what do you
think he should do this at the NFL level or
even could?

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I mean could, yes? Should? Hell?

Speaker 4 (04:30):
No?

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Like could he absolutely? But the way that the NFL
has surprised you, like that? What that he I think
he could?

Speaker 6 (04:38):
That?

Speaker 3 (04:38):
He absolutely could? Yeah, I think, But I don't.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Know because I think there are I think there are
other players capable of doing what Travis Hunter is doing.
I don't know about at the NFL level. Well, I
think at this point he's shown.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
I put it like this, if he was just a cornerback,
he'd be a top a top a first round pick.
If he was just a wide receiver, he'd be a
first hagree with that, So I think he should, like
in theory, would be able to do it. But should
he do it is the question, and the answer to
me is absolutely not that. What he should play in
the NFL is wide receiver. There's if no other reason

(05:16):
they're not gonna pay you to play wide receiver in cornerback.
You're gonna get paid at one of those positions. Right,
It's not gonna be both. You're not gonna reset the
wide receiver market. You're playing, you know, forty thirty five
snaps at cornerback every game.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
And to me, if I'm.

Speaker 5 (05:31):
Playing pro sports, it's about winning, but it's also about
the bread. So I need to make as much money
as I can. And right now, Jyu Alexander is the
highest paid cornerback by average annual value, which would make
him like that's the twenty one million dollars a year,
which would have him right around Terry McLaurin, T Higgins
and Stefan Diggs in terms of average annual salary.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
If I'm Travis.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
Hunner seeing the numbers that I put up, the type
of catches that I can make. I'm trying to get
that thirty million dollars a year Brandon Ayyuke deal.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I don't think he'll even get a shot to play
both positions now. D I may be talking with teams
now and saying, look, the kid wants to play both,
but I'm sorry, and I could be wrong. I don't
see it in the NFL. And your dude is phenomenal.
He is elite at a college level at both positions.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I'll give you that. That is like Otani.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Otani is an elite pitcher and an elite hitter, and
right now, at the college level, Travis Hunter is an
elite cornerback and an elite wide receiver.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
As great as he is, I don't see him doing
that at the NFL level.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
It's too much work, it's too hard.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Last night he was playing against a team full of
kids that are not going to be in the NFL.
May will any of those kids be in the NFL
In college tour, even when they're playing big twelve teams,
most of those players will not be in the NFL.
It is difficult to play full time receiver and full

(07:11):
time cornerback at the NFL level. This kid is great.
He's not Dion Sanders, I don't think, and Dion did
a little bit of receiver, but basically was a cornerback.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
I just don't think.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
I don't even think a team will draft him thinking
he's gonna play both.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
But I agree with you, Martin.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
And it's interesting because when he entered college football, the
thought was, and even up until maybe even right now,
the feeling is that he's a cornerback or that's what
he'll be in the NFL, and that's what he's best at.
First of all, you are right on, well, you're on
with the money and that the receivers make more. So yes,

(08:00):
if it's about money, you should play receiver. I'm not
certain if he were able to go to the next
level and be Pro Bowl level at both spots on
both going both ways, I do think he'd get a
little more than the top receiver. Like let's say he's
doing I mean he has to. If he's got an

(08:21):
agent worth this salt, he's gonna be like, hold up, yes,
justin now, I'm just assuming. I'm just for argument's sake.
Let's say he was a Pro Bowl caliber like perennial
Pro Bowl caliber wide receiver and a really good defensive
back or vice versa.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
However you want to do it.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
You are really gonna tell me he wouldn't make more
than the top wide receiver.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
I don't think so why not?

Speaker 1 (08:50):
I mean, there's no any agent worth this Salt is
gonna be like this guy, you're getting two for one.
He's not playing for the same money as Justin Jefferson.
You're getting two for one. Now, if he's not Pro
Bowl caliber at either position, that's another story. But if

(09:11):
he's excellent at one and you know, good a good
solid starter at the other, I think he has to
make more money. But again, I don't even think he'll
really get a chance to do it, because I don't know.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
How possible it is in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
I do think there are other players at the collegiate
level who could do what Travis is doing, maybe not
as well, but who could play both ways. But I'm
with you in that look. He may just want to.
Maybe he's that type of guy. It's like, hey, I
want to be the first. I mean, you know, I

(09:47):
want to be unique and I want to set my
make my mark and play both ways.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
I don't fault him for it. It's I don't if
that is the case, which I don't faulting for it.

Speaker 5 (09:56):
It sounds like from the reporting that you hear out
of out of Colorado, that kind of is his energy, right.
He likes he likes to hang out with his girlfriend, fit,
go fish, and play football like that is all he does.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Right. It seems like that's, you know, his whole thing,
and he wants to play.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
He only sat out two plays yesterday and part of
the reason why he set out one of them is
because his helmet came off, right, I get that, But
at a certain.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Point, like what are we doing here?

Speaker 5 (10:20):
Like this is the last time I think that you're
really looking at sports as potentially even fun, right when
you're like not as just sate not looking at he'll
enjoy playing in the NFL, I'm sure, but fun in
terms of for the love of the game, playing for
you know, the guys.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Around even Is that even the case? Now? You know
what I mean? An I l but I hear you,
I hear it.

Speaker 5 (10:42):
This is if there was this, it may that time
may have already passed up, but this is definitely the
last opportunity that that will be this case, So Now,
once you get into the league, you have to focus
on maximizing your earnings, right and putting yourself in the
best position to succeed. And if I'm a team and
Travis both my best receiver and my best cornerback, I

(11:02):
feel like I got to improve one of those rooms, right,
like that just got to be what it is.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Well, unless he's just that special.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Now, look, I'll say this too, just forget the economics,
and he is great at both. I I think I
want him as a receiver. I think if I'm an
NFL team now, and it might differ. You know, some
teams might need more help at corner, some might need

(11:33):
more help and receiver, so that could affect how they
look at him. But everything you said, as far as
the money and all that, I would agree.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
He should be. You would think you'd want to play receiver.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
But I'm just talking about from a pure standpoint of
his game. And he's great corner But I would if
I were him and I was only going to play
one in the NFL, I would want it to be
receiver one. You're gonna make more money, as you said,
And and maybe everybody doesn't want this, but your fame,

(12:08):
your you know, celebrity opportunities off the field, those are
going to come more as a receiver than they will
as a cornerback. Now, Dion was a corner and obviously
there are other guys that have you know, I mean,
but Dion was just one the best to ever do it.
But also a special personality, you know what I mean. Yeah,

(12:33):
so that's probably led also to a lot of his
publicity as a cornerback. But yeah, I think even his game,
I mean, that catch he made when the dude was
interfering with him in the corner of the end zone
was phenomenal and he's legit. So I don't think you'll

(12:54):
go both ways in the NFL, And I I don't
know what he'll play, but if I were him, i'd
want to play receiver.

Speaker 5 (13:04):
If I think he probably profiles better as a cornerback
in the league. If I was him, though, for all
the reasons you just lay it out, I'd want to
play receiver.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
But the point I was thinking when you saw that.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
Last touchdown that he caught, that's the third one. I mean,
first of all, he barely got the playoff. He's sitting
there on the at the top of the screen, yelling
like yo, hike the ball. Hiked the ball, and it
was pretty much just throw it up to Travis. Was
the play right? Offensive line didn't even look set, none
of that to I don't know if he makes that
catch the same way, if he doesn't have the dB

(13:35):
training that he does, right, No, No, I think it
will help him because he almost caught it like it
was an interception, right. You know, he pended on the
guy's back. You know the way he caught it, He
pended on the guy's back. You see defensive backs making
that play when they're going up over somebody all the time.
So I think what he's got, he's just got great
skills in terms of speed and leaping ability. But his

(13:57):
ball skills are so good that I think it's almost
not fair to say he's a better wide receiver because
we never get to see him play cornerback because they don't.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Throw the ball as way. Yeah, and I don't know
if he's a better receiver.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
I feel you. I think he's elite at both.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
And again, most people thought he was a better cornerback
and may even still think that. But I do think
his ability as a corner, the fact that he plays
corner helps him as a receiver because he knows he
can read, you know, the way they're playing him. He knows, Okay,
they're playing me this way. I play guys this way.

(14:32):
This is where you're vulnerable, this is where they're vulnerable.
You know what I mean, and all of that. So, man,
the dude is phenomenal and it's gonna really be interesting.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
But ultimately, I don't think he'll even get the shot
not to play full time both ways.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
I think occasionally maybe like Dion, but I don't think
he'll be.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
A full time packages.

Speaker 5 (14:53):
Maybe have him turning punch or something like that, something
to get the ball in his hands, but not seven
catches for one hundred and thirty whatever yards he had
with three touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
I just can't see it. But let's throw it out
to the listeners.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
Maybe they can eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox,

What what are you doing interrupting our promo?

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Yeah, he wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally of context.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Com eight seven seven ninety nine On Fox Simple question,
Ken Travis Hunter played both ways in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
And should he your thoughts, Let's go to Kevin and Culver.
Shitty Kevin, you're on the eye couple on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
What do you think?

Speaker 8 (16:50):
God, it's good all the time, brother, love thetu you
Fellers Man. Absolutely for sure. Look, this guy is Shoney
O'tani of the college football and he's gonna be Otani
of the NFL. He's gonna be the most richest receiver
and corn the league. Because when you're an agent, you're

(17:12):
gonna negotiate there say I'm giving you a Pro Bowl
receiver and a Pro Bowl cornerback. There's a guy who
I want to tell you about a few years ago.
He's a little older that some people might not know,
but he's a Hall of Famer. Cham Bailly was the
last guy who watched all who reminded me of Fim
champ Bailly and Deion Sanders, two guys in the history
of the NFL. Now, this guy, I feel like he
could be a Pro Bowl receiver and a Pro Bowl

(17:34):
cornerback because he has deon trace and it's no better
coach to coach in the coach prime. And he's probably
telling him, Hey, this is what happened when I was
coming out of Florida State, this is what you should
be doing. So Dia is gonna tell him the right
thing to do. But I definitely think at the next level,
play receiver and play cornerback because he's the first guy
I could see being a pro bowler both ways. He
can do it both in a superior level. I mean,

(17:55):
he's got great ball skills.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
And great if he can do that.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
And I'm not sure I honestly, and this is not
a knock on him. I don't feel like it's possible
to be an elite receiver and an elite defensive back
in the NFL. I could be wrong. I just don't
think it can be done. But if it can, and
if he were to do it, then you are absolutely right.

(18:19):
Just like show, Hey, it got seven hundred million and
way more than anybody else. This guy would do that
if he could be elite at both. But again, to me,
that's a big if let's go you got it all right,
Let's go on to Gary in Houston. You're on the
Couple on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (18:38):
Yeah, so no, he won't and I don't think teams
are gonna want him to play both because the reason
he could play now is because he's facing such lesser
athletes that he's not going full speed. He can save
his energy and split it if he's doing on the NFL.
I just think you're not gonna get that much value
out of him because of different these athletes are in
the NFL. Like remember Johnny Mandelle. He was so fast

(19:00):
in college, like the quarterbacks couldn't even touch them, and
then when he went to the NFL, the quarterbacks are
catching him like it was nothing.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Nah, you're right, it's it's just a different level of
athlete in the NFL, and he'll be I think he
can be great at one. I just don't think he
can do it at both. I agree with you on that.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Well, this is just time on task you have, Like
it's something I think about all the time when people
have like other jobs, just like you know, I'm around
Saint Brown's job is only to run routes and catch
balls right and like.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
But that's difficult to do it in an elite level
in the NFL. You're talking about the absolute best athletes
in the world. As great as the Division one players are,
they're not. I mean most of them, ninety percent of them,
if not more, aren't gonna play at the next level,
right I just I mean I could again, I could
be wrong, but I don't think you can do it.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
Just imagine if C. D.

Speaker 5 (19:54):
Lamb had to spend half of his practice doing defensive
back pedals.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Right, like you know what I'm saying. It's like he
it wouldn't be as good as a receiver, right right.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
And not that's not even to mention the actual the
mental work, either the study and things like that.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Mitch in New Jersey. You're on the couple on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Mitch going once, yeah, right my core.

Speaker 9 (20:17):
Yeah, Well, first of all, sure you telling you awesome?
I think maybe next Whin and repeating it's d H
they'll probably do it. Actually, I want to keep three
private play. Center field is a lot different. He's gonna
have to choose one on the both. I think it'd
be cornerback and then he gets thrown the wide a

(20:37):
few times, but not full time.

Speaker 8 (20:39):
Both even the.

Speaker 9 (20:40):
Greatest having both Jackson herschel Walker get caught up with him.
You know, one one hit when on ah L, he's
gonna have to just choose one, and they'll make more
money choosing one last longer.

Speaker 5 (20:54):
Yeah, I think yeah, because there's gonna be a ton
of tread on those tires on his body too.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
If he ends up playing both, right, his career would
be short.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
I would think he's already got a ton of tread
on this tires if you consider it. But Christ thinks
will be interesting when the calls is all said and done,
if he will be the highest rated prospect at either position,
right like as draft prospects. As a draft approaches next year,
I think Will Johnson is probably a better cover corner
than him, and Luther Burden probably a better wide receiver.

(21:22):
So I'm interested to see where he will rank individually
in those classes, you know, as he becomes at draft point.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
That's a great point too, That's a great point. So
it will be interesting, all right. It's the odd couple.
Chris Bruce sar Martin Weiss is in for Rob Parker.
We've talked about Travis Hunter. What about the guy throwing
him the rock? How good is he?

Speaker 3 (21:44):
That's next? But first, Steve de Seger with the updates Steve.

Speaker 10 (21:47):
The Milwaukee Brewers have swept a double header at Cincinnati today.
In ten innings, it was a five to four final. Tonight,
Milwaukee scored ten times in the ninth to make it
a fourteen to nothing final at Cincinnati Boston and ten
innings is one of Detroit seven to five, Cubs seven
six winners at Washington and Atlanta one at Philadelphia seven
to two. Ornaldo Lopez the winning pitcher. Phillies third baseman

(22:09):
Alec Bohm did not start due to a hand injury.
Bryce Harper of the Phils is playing through elbow and
wrist injuries. To the eighth inning, the Padres still lead
at Tampa Bay ten to four. It's the Yankees six '
three over the Saint Louis Cardinals. That game is in
the top of the ninth inning. Aaron Judge oh for
four with three strikeouts. Cleveland Guardians lead eight to seven

(22:29):
against the Pirates. In the top of the eighth Houston
a one nothing leader over the Royals. Bottom of the sixth.
Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquentino is out with a broken thumb.
He has ninety seven RBIs this year. Probably out for
the year. The Mets lead for to one at the
White Sox in the top of the fifth. A White
Sox loss would put their record at thirty one and
one oh five on the season. We still have another

(22:52):
game in August tomorrow. This would be one hundred and
five losses for them. The Twins are shutting out the
Blue Jays one nothing in the bottom of the fifth,
and the Orioles lead one zip at Colorado bottom of
the third. Scottie Scheffler leads the PGA's Tour Championship by
four strokes. Coco goff won her third round match at
the US opened in a three set comeback. As for
the WNBA, in progress final minutes, Indiana Fever a leader

(23:16):
of ninety six seventy one at Chicago, Angel Reads five points,
nine rebounds for the Chicago Sky Caitlin Clark twenty nine points,
twelve assists and only three turnovers to college football sixteenth
ranked Oklahoma is leading thirty seven nothing over Temple mid
third quarter. Mid third at Michigan State, Spartan's up sixteen

(23:37):
to three on Florida Atlantic Ravens tight end Mark Andrews
return to practice he'd missed over two weeks after a
car accident. The Chief say wide receiver Marquise Brown is
not expected to play next Thursday's season opener against Baltimore
due to his bad shoulder.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
Back to you, all right, thank you, Steve, have a
great weekend.

Speaker 10 (23:56):
You two.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
All right. We're live from natireg dot com studio. Here,
it is Martin. We've talked about Travis Hunter.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
What about Shadeur Sanders of course, Deona Sanders' son.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
The quarterback for Colorado. Everybody. Now, you see a lot
of pundits saying he's definitely a.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
Top five pick. You follow this college football pretty closely.
You got Carson Beck at Georgia is really strong. You've
got Quinn Eors at Texas. You got Dylan Gabriel at Oregon.
Is Schadeure in your view, the best quarterback in the nation.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Yeah, he is.

Speaker 5 (24:39):
He is, especially when part of when you look at
what's going around, what is around him. He's got great receivers,
but that's about that. No running game to speak of
offensive lines, Twist cheese all last year, the year before.
I'm sorry all last year and last night.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
We saw that.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
I mean, but to me, he's got a little bit
of I don't know, there's got to be something about
being the kid of a famous, famous athlete. But when
you hear him talk, he reminds me a little bit
of how Bronnie James was doing this draft process. They
remind me of each other in that they don't ever
say anything inflammatory. They don't ever say anything that's like

(25:17):
this kid's full of himself. Even last night as he's
walking off the field, you know, just beating North Dakota
State or one and a halftime. I forget which way
the interview was, but whoever the sideline reporter was for
ESPN was kind of like trying to go to him
into an answer a little bit, and Shador was like
not having He's like, no, we just got to score
every time we get the ball.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
That's our goal. That's what we need to do.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
We didn't do with the last drive, and that's what
we're gonna go into the halftime and fix. He didn't
take a shot like at his defense or anything like that.
He's like, he's like, no, this is what I need
to do to win. This is what I'm gonna do
to win. And when you look at him on the
sideline after especially, we were talking about somebody hits that
he took.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
You know, he's not looking around like what are y'all doing?

Speaker 5 (25:59):
Looking around complaining like he seems to me from all
accounts from what I've watched him FM, when I've read
of him to be a good teammate and a good soldier,
especially about guys who are on the roster in the moment.
Maybe you want to talk about some of the transfer
portal guys who were quote unquote taking shots might be
a different story. But outside of that, he's tough as
nails and can throw them, and he's got a rocket like.

(26:20):
He's really accurate. He throws the ball wells he's the
ball well. You'd like him to be a little bit
more mobile maybe, but yeah, to me, I think Shador
is the best quarterback in the country, and you consider
all the things he's got to going against him. You
look at Carson Beck at Georgia like there's a lot
of other things Carson Beck can play. I put it
like this, Carson Beck can play poorly and Georgia can win.

(26:41):
If Shador Sanders plays poorly, Colorado has a shot well.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
And it's interesting because when you talk about going to
the next level, you know a lot of times, not
all the time, but a lot of times the guys
from the top schools, because they have so much talent
around them, don't end up being the ones who are
great in the NFL, right, because there are a lot
of things one you do have.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
So you're playing with.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
A superior cast against inferior competition ninety percent of the
time in college. And because of that, you don't have
to develop right as a quarterback. You probably don't have
to ever hit your third option or rarely, you know
what I mean, Your first option or your second option

(27:30):
is always open, right, and so you're getting protected. You
think of Bryce Young, and I know the book's not
written on him. I don't want to, you know, write
him off just yet. But at Alabama he had the
best squad and the best talent basically every time they
took the field.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
Ohio State until CJ.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
Stroud, all of that, you know, their quarterbacks had all
failed essentially in the NFL or certainly couldn't live basically failed.
I mean, they struggled in the NFL. And so I
do give you you know, Beck and I'm not writing
off back. I think he does have some definite ability.
He may be the Heisman Trophy.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Winner this year.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Of course, that doesn't mean a ton necessarily at the
next level, but yeah, I hear you on that. And
that's one of the things that does impress me more
about Shador is that with that offensive line, he does
have excellent receivers, but you need time to get them
the ball. A little bit of time, a little all right,

(28:32):
And that's all he's got is a little and he
takes a lot of hits. He was sacked fifty two
times last year. But even with that offensive line, even
being under pressure, he puts up these outlandish numbers.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
And I like Martin he's the true pocket passer. And
I don't think it's because he can't move. Like you said,
you'd like to see him be a bit mobile. I'm
not saying he's certainly not Caleb Williams or you know,
one of these Jaydon Daniels.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
One of these great running quarterbacks. He's not an instinctive runner,
not an instinctive runner.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
But I do think he's got the athleticism, good athleticism
and mobility for a quarterback. It won't be elite like
Lamar as far as scrambling things, but he does have
enough athleticism to be you know, get get out of
the pocket, roll out, get away from duress and things

(29:30):
like that. But his number one like desire, and you
can see it when he plays. He stays in that pocket.
Even when that pocket shrinks, he will stay there unless
he has to move and run out of it. And
I like that because in the NFL, you know, you
would think he's going to have a better line a

(29:52):
little bit more time. But he's also you know, got
a pretty decent release as far as quickness, and he
can make every throw. So I do like him a
lot as well. And I think being the sun kind
of what you alluded to you were talking about the
answers he gives. But even just being around a big

(30:13):
time athlete your entire life, he's going to be ready
for the spotlight. He's gonna be ready for the NFL.
I mean, he's probably been around the NFL a lot
right as it is. He's you know, obviously met tons
of NFL players through his dad, so he's not gonna

(30:35):
go up there and be awed by everything going on.
He will be very comfortable, and I think that will
end up helping him as well.

Speaker 5 (30:44):
Yeah, and I think, you know, it's weird. You mentioned
it earlier, but the quarterbacks from the best schools a
lot of times aren't doing Like look at the top.
You know, three quarterbacks in the NFL. Right now, you
got Lamar jack I mean sorry, Joe god Dog and
Patrick Mahomes played at Texas, Josh Allen played at Wyoming,
Lamar Jackson played at Louisville, right, and Joe Burrow played.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
It Rose about the only one. But and he only
had one great year.

Speaker 5 (31:09):
He had to transfer to LSA, right right, you know,
So it's just all types of weird CJ's.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
You know again, he's the first one out of Ohio
State to really and and it's only one year, but
to be.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
Great rock party obviously Iowa State, I.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
Mean, really, it's an interesting Now Jalen of course, Jalen
Hurts did play at big programs. It's an interesting study
when you think about it. As we keep going on where.

Speaker 5 (31:35):
These guys played at, we'll see the thing about Jalen Hurts.
I wonder so you got like small school guys like
Mahomes and our smaller school guys Mahomes Allen, so on,
then you have the Lincoln Riley corridor, right, that's where
Jalen Hurts comes from. Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Caleb Williams
right touched by Lincoln Riley all the way there, and
then the rest of the guys kind of filled out

(31:55):
by like Matthew Stafford, Georgia, you know, some of the
bigger name schools.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
Right right now. It is very interesting.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
But shadeuor you know, he's gonna put up huge numbers,
and you just hope he doesn't because of that offensive line,
and again I think it that's gonna prepare him for
the NFL. But you just hope he doesn't take too
many hits and too many shots before certainly they don't

(32:22):
want him to get hurt before.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
We get out of this.

Speaker 5 (32:24):
I want to ask you, because do you think that
the idea that he's been coached by Dion the entirety
of his career will impact his draft stock Because I
put it like this, Deon Sanders obviously one of the
best football players we've ever seen, but when you just
think about the dad aspect of it, if he had
if if this was Deon Jones and not Deon Sanders,

(32:44):
people will be talking about him like he's LeVar Ball.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
Well, yeah, similar. Do you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
It sounds crazy to say he's not quite as boisterous
as thevar O Ball.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
You know what, idea, my kids won't go play here.
They're not gonna play there, They're not like all of that.
We've we've heard that before. It just wasn't from a
Hall of famer.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
Yeah, you just haven't heard him say he's gonna be
better than Patrick Mahomes and all that stuff, thankfully, like
LaVar was saying better than Steph, better than Lebron and
all that. But it's a good question just because not
only do you have to deal with the dad as
an organization.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
But also you just you feel like, well, this kid's
never played for anyone else, you know what I mean.
And so I think that is a question mark.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
I think at the end of the day, it won't
hurt his draft status, but I bet it's something that
in private teams are discussing.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
I think so too.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
I mean, I think also too. You don't because it's
another thing. If LaVar Ball disagrees with you, it depends
on who picks it up. If Deon Sanders disagrees with you,
it'll be everywhere.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
No, No, there's no doubt, and Dion carries some clout
right that's the thing too, So I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
It's again.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
I think it's something that teams are wanne and as
they talk about Shador, that definitely is one of the
topics that will come up crazy, isn't it?

Speaker 9 (34:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (34:14):
It is?

Speaker 3 (34:14):
It really is. All right, more I Couple coming your way,

Speaker 3 (34:52):
Post it right after we get off the air. Let's
end it here.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
Martin in the NBA. I don't know if you've seen
this tweet, but Dwight Howard said this about the Lakers. Okay,
Rob Palinka kind of messed up the dynasty we were starting,
he said, what we was starting, but we would have

(35:16):
had at least two championship championships.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
And an opportunity to fight for a third one.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
And the big news, at least on Twitter, is that
Phil Handy, the longtime Lakers assistant coach, tweeted or responded
to this with facts.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
So let me ask you, Martin, do you agree with
Dwight Howard on that. I tend to agree.

Speaker 5 (35:42):
I don't know if they would have had this success
that Dwight Howard is talking about, but I do think
it was odd to win a championship in the bubble,
and then it seemed as if every move afterwards was
the systematically dismantal set champion, right like you the only god.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
He might not be the only one, but the only
critical guy that they didn't bring back the next year
was Dwight, which was big.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
He was big off the.

Speaker 5 (36:09):
Bench, But I mean from that, I mean, but that
affected one of their most critical guys in Anthony Davis
and his ability to what position he was playing on
the court because wat Howard and Ville, they were getting
a lot of minutes there.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
But I tend to agree.

Speaker 5 (36:24):
I thought that they should have tried to improve that
team around the margins and keep as much as they
could of it as opposed to I mean, you look
at it two years later, the whole roster is different.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Right, yeah, after as they went on the first year, though,
I think a couple things.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
Number One, the next year, after they won the championship,
Lebron only played forty five games and Anthony Davis only
played thirty six.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
So that now, maybe that was because you remember the
season was like, you didn't.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Get as much rest after the lockout year in the bubble,
and then they came back and started the next season
fairly soon, and so maybe that had to do with it.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
But though that so the next year they.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Weren't gonna win it just because of the injuries. I
also think this and this is along the same lines.
And I take nothing away from their championship. Every championship,
I respect it, all right. I don't look at the
Raptors Championship and saying if Durant hadn't gotten hurt and

(37:31):
if Clay hadn't gotten hurt, that's not now when you
nitpick and you weigh what championships might hold more weight
than others. Sure like Lebron's championship in Cleveland was the
biggest of his career, bigger than the two in Miami.
And you know, so, I'm not saying all championships are equal.
I'm just saying I respect all of them. I'm not

(37:54):
the one to be like, oh, it's the Disney, the
Mickey Mouse Championship or the Bubble Championship. No, I respect
because it's not like the Lakers had any They were
playing in the same or under the same.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Circumstances as every other team. They didn't have any advantage.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
But one thing that did work in their favor was
that you got the three Lebron even at that time
he was old Lebron and Ad got the three to
four month break and then you know, you only played
a ham You'll play what eight games in the Bubble

(38:29):
and then they went straight to the playoffs, So I
think that helped them. And then the next year, of course,
they had the injuries, and like this year, Lebron was
phenomenal in the Olympics. He was the best player throughout
the Olympics. Now, I think Steph should have been the
MVP because of his eroics in the two most important games,

(38:50):
But I thought Lebron, if you just look at the
six games, was the best player.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
But that six games or ten games if you count
the exhibitions.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
I don't expect numbers will be great, I would think,
but he's not going to have that type of impact
on the games over the course of eighty two games
and then the playoffs. So my point is just that
that rest helped them as well. I agree with you
that they should have kept Dwight, there's no question, but

(39:21):
I dynasty is definitely too strong.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
Yeah. Man, I don't even know if they would have
won another championship.

Speaker 5 (39:28):
I mean, it's it's what the most favorable possible reading
of what could have happened with Dwagle. Nobody ever looks
and been like, you know what, we would have really
underachieved if that had been the case.

Speaker 3 (39:38):
But I did think it was kind of weird.

Speaker 5 (39:40):
You got this team that just won a championship, Lebron
miss it, you know, build around that, like you just
reached the pinnacle. I would lean in a little while longer.
I kind of feel like you see something similar happening
with the Denver Nuggets. They just won a championship and
seem like they're just losing all their good players outside of.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
Yeah, yeah, they are.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
They are losing a lot of guys, you know, in
a place like Denver, and I hope, look, I hope
they go for every championship because you have to maximize
Nicola Jokic. But they do know, and I'm not saying
they're you know, taking advantage of this situation and not
trying to win. I know, Mike Malone's trying to win, right,

(40:21):
But you know, they know that they never won a
championship before Jokic, and they still had a Rockers fan base,
you know what I mean, Like they now they've got one,
and the fans that got the best player in the league.
The fans are coming out, fans are gonna be excited,
and so you do wonder sometimes in those situations, are

(40:44):
the owners gonna pay as much as they need to
and should just to.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Win another championship when they've already got one.

Speaker 1 (40:51):
And they still have an engaged fan base, right, Yeah,
it's you know, there's no fan base more engaged for
good or for bad than the Los Angeles Lakers.

Speaker 3 (41:01):
No, there's no doubt about that, no doubt about that.

Speaker 1 (41:03):
So all right, Martin, great stuff, man, have a great weekend.
Everybody else, y'all enjoy you Saturday and Sunday, and we
out but keep in locked.
