(00:54):
joins us as the Super Bowl champion, of course, and
co hosts of the Purple pre and post game shows
on w j Z TV in Baltimore. Great to talk
to him, Oh yeah, and you know about the Ravens.
I really want to hear his thoughts on him this year.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
No doubt.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
And you know every time we have him on, I
always talk about Chris. When you do this job, like
we have for a long time. And you know this,
you cover guys in high school. The idea that I
covered that guy in high school is ridiculous. Him and
his brother Rocket, you know, in Willsbury, Pennsylvania.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
And I didn't even cover high school football.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Chris.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
I covered high school track and field and they were
all high school sports. I was only there for five months.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Because when I cover high schools, I covered like yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
When I was in When I was in Greenwich, Connecticut, Chris,
I covered high school football. I think the team was
Saint Mary's Saint Mary and I covered high school football there.
And I did what you did at the Plain Dealer
when you used to take scores, remember that over the phone.
I did that at the New Haven Register when that
was my first job, Chris. In college, I'm at Southern
(02:01):
Connecticut and New Haven and I get it college. And
I was in college and I got a stringer job,
you know, and Chris, I think they were paying I
think five or seven dollars an hour, you know what
I mean, Like I thought I hit.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Him pay dirt.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Oh yeah, yeah, no, people laugh, you know, but that's
what's money.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Chris, Yep. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
When I was at The Akron Beacon Journal. Brian Wyndhorse
was a clerk in the office. Crazy was a student
that can't state, and he stayed. He you know, like
you said, right, he wanted to be in the business,
so he went and you know, I'm sure he was
getting paid something, but not just wanted to be right,
it was just about getting the experience being there.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
That's what we did, right, That's what we did to
get started. Nobody everybody thinks. And this is why I
try to tell a younger guy, stop with the If
you're not at FS one or ESPN and you're twenty four, Chris,
oh my god, my career, you know, it's a shot
and I don't have any future. I'm like, what are
(03:05):
you talking about? Doing high school sports in North Carolina?
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Chris.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
They wouldn't even they wouldn't even pay them.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
We all started, I mean most of us, a lot
that we're talking about started out covering high school.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
I covered high school. We all did, yep.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
And and I say, rob cause you know, especially the
landscape now when it's opinion, right and we have this
opinion show. We've done TV shows that are opinion I
do first things first. Now, it's all opinion, and everybody's
got an opinion. So a lot of these young sports
writers or even guys that want to be sports writers,
(03:44):
they're looking at it like, man, I could I could
have an opinion, Stephen. They had a great quote. I
don't know where he said it or wrote it or whatever.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
In Chicago.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
It was I just heard he had said, but he
said everybody, it's all about opinion. Now everybody's got an opinion,
of course, But the key is that you have to
have the credibility where people care about.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Your opinion or want to hear your opinion.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Because somebody that nobody knows Rob can come up here
and have an opinion about Michael Jordan or Patrick Mowles.
But if people don't know him, who cares?
Speaker 3 (04:25):
And you remember this and this is just.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
I'm not When we started Chris with the Cold Pizza
and remember what he Paige was with Skip first and
when we did those shows and it was hard to
get on first and ten and then first take, You remember, like.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Well first and yeah, you remember it was hard.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
It was it was a stable of a few people, Chris,
but it wasn't wide o.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
Well, initially it was just Woody and skip right.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
And then was it when Woody left they brought in
more people.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
You remember Marty.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Mcneila, Marty's past from Secramental, great Jamel, Michael Smith and
I got school.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Did you see that picture I sent you today from school?
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Did you see it all my phone? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Scoop was in Chicago, ABJ It looks great. I didn't
seen them in years.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Chris Scoop is a great guy man.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, all right, but no, you're at And what I
tell guys Rob is, look, if you you you envision
yourself at ESPN or FS one or whatever, it might
be the best way to get there is to dominate
where you're at. If you're covering high schools in wilkes Bury, Pennsylvania,
(05:51):
the best way for you to get to ESPN or
f S one is.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
To crush it in wilkes Bury.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Break the most stories, right, the best stories, whatever it
may be.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
But that's how you get.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
You're not gonna get there by sitting there daydreaming about
being on with Steven A.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Smith and moping because you're not covering the pros.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
So that that's the advice you gotta You gotta dominate
where you're at and The sad thing is too, Rob,
everybody's not getting a national TV show. It's just I mean,
there's only a handful of a handful of guys on
national TV in national radio.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
There.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
It's just slow.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
We're not trying to.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
This is what it is.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
Everybody can't have a national show, all right, Rob.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
The Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers, of course,
Tomorrow night the Ravens play at the Chiefs in Kansas
City tomorrow that'll open up the season. And then Friday
in Brazil, the Packers and the Eagles play. And my goodness,
I don't like the Eagles attitude. I mean, you had
(07:02):
aj Brown complaining about a week ago about how they've
been told they can't go anywhere and all that, and
then you had DeVante Smith. He was asked about it,
he said no comment. And now Darius Slay has said this.
Speaker 6 (07:25):
We were not looking forward to it. I can't wait.
But man, I do not want to go to Brazil.
And you want to know why. I'm here to tell
you why. They already told us not to lead a hotel.
They told us we can't do too much going on
because it's the rate.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
It is crazy.
Speaker 7 (07:39):
You know what I'm saying, I'm like, NFL, why are
y'all want to send us somewhere with the crime right
this high? And like we got the country, so you know,
the first thing people think is like something terror can
possibly happen. I told my family, do not come down
there because I'm not gonna be nowhere to be found
real that would be in the hotel chilling out of
my business.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
I'm gonna say this, Rob, and I know I just that,
you know, I don't like their attitude, and all I'm
saying is this, I want them to just focus on
the game.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Look what Darius Slay said. I'm not gonna kill him.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
For that, because the NFL probably did go there and
be like, man, look you can't. You know, it's very
dangerous here. You cannot leave the hotel without security or
but you know, like they it sounds like they scared
the players and told them all this stuff. So he's
just saying what he's been told. All right, he I'm
sure they hurt Rob. You know, they hurt Brazil and
(08:34):
oh wow, that's gonna be great. And now they're being
told you can't leave, you can't you know, do this
and do that. But what I'm saying is we've heard
and maybe they're just being.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Asked about it and given their honest opinion.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
But the best thing for the Eagles, Rob, is to
just beat They should be excited about Week one. They
ended last season losing six of their last seven games.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
They completely fell apart. They clearly were in what.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
I've called a supernatural funk, or you've called it the
Super Bowl hangover, whatever you want to. But now they
got say Kwon Barkley, they've got two new coordinators offensive
and defensive. They've got, you know, a chance to erase
that memory from last season when an Endo sobali.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
So I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
They need to be focused on this game and starting
the season out well because they do play a tough team,
the Green Bay Packers, and focused on that instead of
being upset about going to Brazil and you're not gonna
be able to do this and that. Because Rob, these
are all world class athletes and the difference between teams
(09:47):
is minuscule, and that little bit of distraction, that little
bit of you know, anger and you're not happy to
be here, you're not excited, that can be enough for
you to lose a game. So that's all I'm saying,
I'm not gonna kill these dudes for basically probably repeating
what they've been told by the NFL security and all that.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
I'm a Darius Slay one, Chris, I just think to
put those players in an unsafe circumstance. It's just it's just,
once again, how were you supposed to feel, Chris? If
you bought tickets to a vacation somewhere, you just went
(10:30):
to ballet, But right then you go, Okay, if they
told you don't, you can't go anywhere, just stay in
your hotel room, you can't leave, you would ask for
your money back.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
You would not go on that vacation.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
You just wouldn't.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
No one in their right mind.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
And when you go to a foreign country, it's scary, okay,
because those guys are targets, Chris. They're millionaires. The money
their targets. Everybody knows exactly them. Yeah, watch your back, okay,
So so you know, and and Darius slay I'm not.
I'm not mad at them. My family's not coming. I
don't want my family here. They're barely telling me I'm
(11:09):
safe here. I mean, like, like really, Chris, I get it.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
You want to grow the game. It's great. Brazil.
Speaker 5 (11:15):
I've been to Brazil. When I was there, they told
me not to wear a wrist watch.
Speaker 8 (11:20):
What right?
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Remember right on one player said they told them not
to wear green anywhere because it's the backtracked.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
But they say, Josh Jacobs, right, yeah, that what they.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
Say was that is that a gang color or something down.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
There or what it was supposedly?
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Yeah, I mean, Chris, I remember when I went to
Brazil and they were like, if you're wearing a wrist watch,
they know you're a foreigner, you know what I mean,
Like like because they don't wear watches. And they had
all these other kids who were you know, displaced from
their homes or their parents threw them out because they
couldn't feed them. They were living in like the subways
(11:57):
or under caves and all this kind.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
It was crazy.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
And all I'm saying is the NFL, should we think
doing these international if if it's not it's in a day, right,
if it's not safe.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Like like when they would imagine Lebron and them going
right to the Olympics and they told them don't go
out in Paris, you know what I mean? Like like really,
like you'll be like, what, yeah, I got no.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
I like, that's why I said, I'm not gonna kill
these guys for saying what they're saying.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
I do want them to focus.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
And look, I'm not Rob, I'm picking the Packers to
get to the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
So it's not a rooting interest here.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
I'm just saying the best thing for the Eagles to
do is try to block all that out.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
It's a business trip. We're here to play football.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
But it is unfortunate, Rob, because you do look at
if you are an NFL team or any professional league
and they're sending you out of the country. Yep, you
get that. Yes, it's these this day, we got a game.
These few days, we're gonna practice and we're gonna have
to be focused on the game. But Rob, you also
(13:07):
look at it like it's a chance for me to
you know what I mean, It's to see a different
country and so on.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
You want to experience it. Like everybody's not a world traveler.
That might be their only chance to go to Brazil.
It might be like as a guy like myself who's
been onto every continent and I travel abroad, Chris, you
gotta be careful when you make these trips, you know that.
And those guys are targets their body side, what they
(13:35):
look like, you know what I mean, Like there's no
doubt when they see these guys in the street who
they are.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
They don't look like the average Brazilian citizens.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
And they probably the way they're dressed, right, you know,
if they're wearing je jewelry or wat chains right right now?
It yeah, they it's just it's you're right. I agree
with you that the NFL needs to rethink this. There
was some talk that they were it's too late now,
I imagine.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
But that they were at least thinking about maybe changing it.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
But yeah, as they go forward, they gotta be careful,
Like you want to row the game everywhere, Chris, I
get all that. I'm not naive, but man, you gotta
be careful. You cannot God forbid something happens in one
of these places, you know what I mean, like like
and and and players have a right like like the
family thing. I think that's real by Darius Slaughing.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Right, No, I.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
Don't think that's just like can you imagine you and
your wife and kids go down there, Chris, and God
forbid something happen, you would hate yourself.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
Yeah, no question about it.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
And the NFL, like you said, we know they want
to grow the game, but you cannot put money. And
I know this will sound naive or Pollyannis or whatever,
but rob they.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Keep putting money ahead of the players. They do.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
We see it with the push first they got the
seventeenth game. They're still talked that they eventually one an
eighteenth game. They'll get it too, because they'll tell you
yeah and and this, you know, traveling to places that
might not be safe.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
And Darius Slay walked it back.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
But I get you know, he got some backlash because
people were like, he's saying, you know, Brazil wasn't safe
and all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
He's just repeating what he's heard, right NFL. No, no, no,
he didn't get that from right.
Speaker 9 (15:24):
You know, he.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Studied looking that up and seeing all that stuff. And
then the people in Brazil are mad because you know, all, hey,
if you're the.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Commissioner of tourism what they call that person, is it
the uh you know, the person's in charge of tourism
for the country. You think that they wanted the NFL
saying like, don't go to Brazil and and and don't
go outside, you know what I mean, like that that
ain't selling no tickets.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Well, it's interesting, Rod when we went my wife and
I went to Jamaica a couple of years ago, and
you know, Jamaica, they talk about, oh be watching can'tful Rangers.
And we went on some tours off the resort, and
you know, we were talking to the people about that
and they were these are Jamaicans and they were like, well,
(16:12):
we could think that about America with all those mass
shootings unfortunately, which they don't like it when the day
at a high school, so we prayers go out to
that the families of those.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Chris, the shooter was reportedly fourteen years old. It's just horrible.
So it's it's relative. But but yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
The NFL has to look at these situations and really
protect itself and the players. And I'm just saying the
Eagles need to focus on the game. But it's a
tough situation. It's tough to do that sometimes if you
really are worried about your safety. All right, eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox the game in Brazil, Eagles Packers,
(16:53):
what are your thoughts should the NFL rethink these things?
And do you blame the Eagles players for I'm a
complaining about this this road trip?
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Your thoughts next, Chris and Rod a Fox Sports Radio.

All right, Chris, let's kick it off with Patrick in Virginia.
You're on the eye couple Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
What's up? Patrick?
Speaker 12 (18:39):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (18:40):
I don't like it.
Speaker 12 (18:41):
I've never liked it as a fan in America because
it takes good chance away from most average fans to
see a game, which is normally for a lot of
people at once in a lifetime and once and average
video opportunity. But I can speak to Brazil specifically because
I was in the military station in Brazil from twenty
nineteen to twenty twenty two, and just like everywhere else,
(19:01):
there's good neighborhoods and bad neighborhoods, And what they told
the players there and what they told us as American
diplomats and we were over there, like you can go
to South Paolo, you can go to Rio, uh stay
in the touristy area. But even when you're there, like
as someone who lived there and spoke the language, sign
like keep your phone tucked, you'll tell your wife to
wear fake jewelry or not any at all. So yeah,
(19:24):
I mean, you know, just like uh pret said earlier
about people and their feelings about guns and travel the world.
You see, America's very different in terms of that, and
so people from other countries feeling safe over here, Beau,
they don't know how things operate, right, So right, Yeah,
I just think.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
I just think for you know, for a player Darrin
Slay who decides that I'm not my family's not coming.
I'm not mad at them, I'm just not. I just
I could understand that just you're gonna sit this one out.
If we were going somewhere cool that you can be
a part. We could go sight seeing, Chris, go to
Paris Eiffel Tower, you know what I mean, are like
like like like that's what you would want to do
(20:03):
with your wife and kids, wouldn't you take him on
to see someplace like that.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
But you're telling me I got to stay in the hotel.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
What are you?
Speaker 5 (20:10):
What are they coming for to stay in the hotel?
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Right? Nah?
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Absolutely, Brandon in Riverside, California.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
You're in the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
What's up be.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
Brandon going ONCET. Yeah, Hello, Okay, there you go.
Speaker 9 (20:27):
I'm sorry, glad to hear both of y'all back together, gentlemen.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
Yes, I know the month of August was.
Speaker 9 (20:34):
Weird and real quick. Chris, that's wishes to you. Glad
to hear you going on there. That's a lot of
working man. So I understand you just want to thank
you wife.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Yeah, appreciate it. Thank you.
Speaker 9 (20:49):
Wait, I'm glad darry you soon.
Speaker 7 (20:50):
Man.
Speaker 9 (20:51):
It's it's crazy how the NFL sent them over to
that place. Like you're just saying, Rob, like if you're
sitting a pair of it's a London at least taking
sight seem right, this is the country actually see some
you know, things that you know you don't always get
to see. And and for the NFL to sent them there,
and they've been talking about this like three months now
(21:13):
as far as the crying rate there and the churs,
the people that's comeing to fans be careful, you know,
Like as a fan I'd be like, well, I'm not
gonna even risk it. I just watch the game on
TV with some wings or something and at least I
know i'd be safe with.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Them my own home, right, Like, like that's that's a
big trip for somebody to take. And then and the
players can't even Chris, you don't even have a chance
of running into a player out in the street, you
know what I mean? Like, yeah, like normally that could
happen if you're in London or Paris or Amsterdam or
some place of that. ILK But thanks for that. Called
Xavier in California. You're on the eye couple of Fox
(21:49):
Sports Radio. What's up, Javier?
Speaker 13 (21:52):
Thank Christian uh And and mister uh I want to
miss your Chris. I want to Kip in my daily
prayers and.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
I thank you.
Speaker 13 (22:01):
I want to know did the NFL lord the price
for the tickets for the fans of Brazil, because I
know we all know that's a very poor country, and
if they did, why can't they do it here for
the average Joe blow here who has a family of
three that can take a family.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
That's a great question.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Now, I wonder what the ticket prices are, Chris, I
will have to lower him, right. You know, they obviously
have an upper class there, but I would think they may.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Have lowered them.
Speaker 13 (22:27):
Why can they do it here for a good question?
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Yeah, now, I hear you, no doubt, that's a good question.
All right.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
We got Kadre Ishmael joining us at the in a
few minutes.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
But first be sure to catch live editions of The
Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at
seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
We got our next guess.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
He's a Super Bowl champion co host of the Purple
pre and postgame shows on WJYZ TV in Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Cadri is Smile Cadre.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
How about Cadrey? What's up?
Speaker 8 (23:08):
Yeah? No man? What's going on with you?
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Man? No man?
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Great to have you on, and my goodness, we couldn't
ask for a better time. We're on the eve of
the open to the twenty twenty four NFL season and
you've got the Ravens playing at Kansas City. Now, a
lot of people Kadre are like Hey, the Ravens had
their season ended by the Chiefs last year. Lamar is
(23:34):
one in four against Patrick Mahomes, and you know, the
Chiefs seem to have their number. If the Ravens don't
win this game, mentally, they are going to be shook.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
So what are your thoughts on this.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Game in relation to all that context of them having
eliminated the Ravens who had a phenomenal year and basically
beat everybody else except the Chiefs last year.
Speaker 8 (24:00):
I love it. And add on to the fact that
you've got a new defensive coordinator and Zach Orr who's
about to go up against the Master, and Andy Reid
as a head coach and play caller himself, so all
of it is right there before the Ravens. I'm sure
everyone is outside of the Baltimore area is counting the
(24:24):
Ravens in the L column. And that's a good thing,
I think for this team because when they play as
the underdog, when they play in that galvanized mindset, that's
when they play their best. I think when they are
out there in the front and are playing so well
that everyone is starting to jump on a hype train,
(24:47):
they can kind of let things get away from them.
So I like the fact that their backs up against
the wall, new coordinator, new pieces on the offensive line,
and yes, you're going into the proverbial Lions. Then when
it comes to playing the Kansas City Chiefs, and we
(25:07):
know what Chiefs Kingdom is all about when it comes
to their home crowd and just the noise level and
all of it. So I'm loving the fact that you
have to start the season off with such adversity to
I think help this team season itself to really understand
(25:27):
what's that stake this year.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
Here's my issue I have with the Ravens and the
reason I do believe I have them going to the
Super Bowl, and I do believe that, you know, Lamar
will be like Jason Tatum, nobody believes he'll win until
he wins.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
But here's my issue.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
That game plan and that AFC chip, Like, I don't
even know what game plan that was. And if the
Ravens had played the irregular game plan that they had
played all year and lost and they barely lost. Okay,
as poor as they played, they barely lost.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
That can.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
I just believe that if they played their regular game
that they can win.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
I just what was that?
Speaker 4 (26:10):
What did What did I miss that they rushed the
ball four times with their running backs?
Speaker 5 (26:15):
What did I miss?
Speaker 8 (26:17):
I think you saw seez Bagnolo do an excellent job
of bringing pressure. There were opportunities for Lamar to get
some beautiful plays down the field, to get rid of
the ball quickly, to allow guys to have strong run
after catch. But see Bagnola was like, look, we're going
(26:41):
to just load the box. We're going to play man
and man on the outside, and we're going to make
Lamar hold the football. And if he holds the football,
we know that we're going to get pressure in his face.
If he beats us once, okay, but we dare him
to be consistent in beating us. And he couldn't hold up.
And so I think Tom Monkin got away from the
(27:01):
game plan as far as running the ball. I think
part of it is Lamar when pressure was on him,
and we saw it in other points in his career.
I go back two years ago when they were playing
the Miami Dolphins down in Miami and Miami just was
like zero coverage, We're coming after you, and they got
(27:22):
to him. Then you know, the following year, they tried
the same thing and Lamar sliced invite them, so I
think a feast Bagnolo. His mindset was were bringing the pressure.
You're not going to run the football. We dare you
to beat us, and and it worked. And I think
that's where, Yeah, you know, people like yourself and you
know pretty much every person that has come up to me,
(27:45):
you know during this off season is like, Kahrey, what happened, Kajie.
Speaker 13 (27:49):
We're going to run the ball.
Speaker 8 (27:50):
Yes, we're going to run the ball. Yes, we got
King Henry, Yes he is looking really good. Yes, Ronnie Stanley,
our offensive tackle on the or the left side, is
looking really good and strong. We're gonna be all right.
So everybody calmed down, We're gonna be on.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Well, let me ask you. I want a two part
question about Lamar One. If that in Kansas City may
switch it up, right, But if they.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
Do the same thing you mentioned him learning against Miami,
do you think he's better equipped now to handle that?
And secondly, he's lost fifteen pounds thirty pounds from two
years ago. My assumption is he's doing that so he
can run away from people again like he did earlier
(28:37):
in his career. Remember, he had the twenty one yard
run against the Chiefs, and I think it was Lugerius
Snead who kind of tracked him down, but Lamar kept
looking back like he wasn't even trying to run away
from him. But you know, in the past, he would
have had the speed maybe to get outside and take
that to the house. So tell me about the way,
(29:00):
And do you think Lamar will be more prepared for
what the Chiefs throw at him tomorrow.
Speaker 8 (29:07):
Yes. As far as his weight loss, I think he
is looking phenomenal. I think it was critical for him
to kind of you know, lose the extra muscle, lose
some of the extra masks. This training camp. You know,
there were multiple times throughout training camp where you just
saw Lamar being explosive and just taking it to the
(29:29):
end zone every single time, whether it be fifty to
sixty yards out. And more importantly, the way in which
he was able to actively recover by jogging back and
getting back into the huddle and just making another play
and not even being you know, winded or out of
out of shape as far as his recovery. So I
think for Lamar he felt like, yeah, his weight, the
(29:54):
mask that he had on was too much. He lightened
it up. I think it's going to be, you know,
another opportunity for him to show his explosiveness when he
needs it, Which leads me into the second part of
your question when it comes to Tom Monket and the
second year of their offense, where I'm hoping that Lamar,
(30:14):
while he is lighter, he doesn't necessarily have to feel
like everything is on him to make a big play,
but rather use Derrick Henry, use Rashad Bateman, use a Flowers,
use your dynamic tight ends, and Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely.
So then when the defenses are trying to take away
(30:38):
those other pieces, that's when your explosiveness comes and works
in your favor.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
No, that that's good stuff.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
Before you go ahead, Derek Henry just yeah, yeah, I
just want to know just what do we expect from
Derek Henry, Like, are they going to work them like
a workhorse, you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (30:57):
Or pick their spots?
Speaker 3 (30:58):
What is he?
Speaker 8 (31:00):
Yeah, you know it's thunder and lightning time. And I
think for Derek Henry, we've seen him where you know,
if you need to have him as the workhorse, great,
if you need to, you know, just allow him to
kind of tenderize a team and then finally bust off
the big one in the fourth quarter. Then so be it.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
I think I like that tender rise. I like that.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
I like tender rise my steak before I cook it.
Speaker 8 (31:27):
I'm telling you it gives you the opportunity for your
bicuspids just right.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Listen to you.
Speaker 8 (31:34):
I think Derrick Henry is about to take it to
the next level and a lot of defenses this year.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
All right, that's our man.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Kadri is my great stuff, Cadrey, enjoy the game tomorrow
as we certainly will.
Speaker 5 (31:47):
I tell your brother Rocket, I said, what's up.
Speaker 8 (31:50):
Always brother, Indeed, indeed, thank you telling me.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Yep, yeah, Morock couple, coming you away, Keep you lt

Speaker 8 (32:31):
Rob.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
The San Francisco forty nine ers been spending a lot
of money. Recently, they signed Brandon Iu four years, one
hundred and twenty million. They took care of their contract
extension with their great left tackle Trent Williams, and next
year they are set to pay their quarterback Brock pretty rock.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
He's making less.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Than a million dollars this year, and that was the
case last year and the year before that, and so
next year he will be in line for that huge
quarterback contract of I'm guessing somewhere between fifty five and
sixty million, maybe even a little more than sixty million dollars.
(33:17):
Is there any question in your mind that he'll go
out and perform to the level that'll get him that deal.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
Yeah, they're still question mark yep, Because I think the
forty nine ers are in a different place than most teams.
And that's because Chris, they had already gone to the
Super Bowl, right with another quarterback. They've had success over
these couple of years, and ultimately it's for them, it's
about winning.
Speaker 5 (33:45):
With the way that this team is constructed.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
Look at all the great players they have, all the
guys that got to get paid, like they're poised to
win and if they don't do it or Brock is
the reason why, I just I think there's pressure on him.
I don't because they're not making the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
Is not in there.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
It's not what they're about, Chris or having a run
like they've been there.
Speaker 5 (34:12):
Like, it's about winning a super Bowl. That's what I think.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
That's a thing for them because they they've been knocking
on the door for the past five That's what I mean.
One year they didn't make it because they were injured,
you know, right, Chris like like, yeah, but here's the thing,
and I do think you'll get the deal. There is pressure,
there's no question, pressure to try to win the Super
Bowl because as we said, they've been knocking on the door.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
And next year they're going to lose people. They're gonna
lose Deebo.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Samuel, right if they say Rock Purty, they're gonna lose
Deebo Samuel and maybe some other players, certainly some other players, but.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
Maybe even and then it might be you look at
it like a window was coming gone, you know, and
they didn't get and they didn't get there.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
And I think the window will remain open.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
But it's the pressure, you know, this for this group,
this whole group together. They gotta get it done this
year and then, like you said, party's got to try
to get you know, if he doesn't play well, he might.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
Not get the huge payday.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
I think he'll play well because I think he's good
number one, very good. But also the whole the band
is back together again, even Rob for those that think,
oh he's purty's not that good.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
He's just got Kyle Shanahan calling plays.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
He's got Trent Williams at left tackle, he's got the
best running back in the league, and Christian McCaffrey. He's
got great receivers tight end. He's yeah, okay, that's all there.
That's all there this year, and the defense is still good,
so he should. I mean, this dude's been productive from
day one since he's in, you know, become a start
(35:54):
of twenty one games ago. Leeds a league in passer rating,
second in playoff wins, second in.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
Overall winning percentage seventeen and four. He's right up there.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
He's fourth and touchdown interception ratio first, in touchdown percentage,
first in yards per attempt, Like the dude has been
productive to say the least. I think the only way
he wouldn't get paid Rob. And again, maybe he has
a bad season, so that's on the table, but I'm assumed.
I think he will have a very good season. Only
(36:28):
way he doesn't get paid in my mind, Rob, is
if to your point, if they don't win it, and
I don't think this is gonna happen. I don't think
they're gonna win it, and I don't think they're gonna
panic if they don't. But if they don't win it, Rob,
and they just say, you know what, we tried. We're
not spending all this money. We got like nine guys
making all this money. We gotta break it down and
(36:51):
start all over. And if that and we don't want
to start all over with a sixty million dollar quarterback,
that's the only way.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
And they would have and they would have to look
at that, but they'd have to look at that. That's
a big paycheck, Chris, A sixty million dollar and then
sixty million dollars then you go, and then he's not
going to have all the pieces that he's had, right Like, now, well,
now what are we paying for do we really believe?
Speaker 5 (37:16):
And and the reason why you can question Chris.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
Had he joined this team and they didn't have any success,
it would people would look at it totally different and
be like, wow, look at what he's been able to do.
But they've had success before he got there. That that's
the part that people can't let go of, is that
they went to the Super Bowl without brock perty That's
not like they've they've been in the mix the last
(37:42):
few years before.
Speaker 5 (37:43):
He showed up.
Speaker 4 (37:44):
So no, right, that's what that's why there's that question mark.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
And he's put up better numbers than Jimmy.
Speaker 5 (37:53):
I think you yeah, I got the IDG.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
You remember when they made the Super Bowl with Jimmy G,
who we like, but still they didn't throw the football.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
They wouldn't. You remember they passed.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
But they won two playoff games on the road where
they do one touchdown?
Speaker 5 (38:09):
Right like that?
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Like that?
Speaker 5 (38:10):
Remember that the package. I don't think they do a
touchdown in that game.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
So they see something different in Purty, uh you know
in that they you know, he's been way more productive
statistically than Jimmy G. But you're right, they've had success
and it's gonna be interesting how they respond if they
don't win the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
Keep it locked, acable,
