Seriously, that's what I mean. Man, everybody's been great. Man,
Chris has been great. You know, he's been very supportive
of this. Folks have been just within the company, even you.
The listeners have been excited, like hey man, some people
who don't know me, like hey, I never heard of you.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Haven't had a chance of listening before. Everybody have to
know everybody. But here you go.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
All right, let's get it started, because we got a
lot to talk about.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Dude, and Bryce Young all right.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Bryce Young has been benched by the Carolina Panthers, and
rightfully so because it's just been a horrendous start two
and sixteen in his NFL career. Just another poor performance
so far in the first two games. No touchdowns, three interceptions.
I mean, we could go on and on and on
(05:52):
and it's not and the Panthers have been outscored seventy
three to thirteen. And it's not just him. They have
a poor off line. There's other issues and about weapons
and all kinds of other stuff, but he just hasn't
been able to do anything there. And when you get
(06:13):
pulled for Andy Dalton, who's not gonna take you anywhere,
maybe home dinner or show, you know what I mean,
nothing serious, It just tells you that they're so frustrated
that they're just saying, just put anybody else in.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
We got to take the kid out. And I think
you can't look.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
At this situation where Bryce Young and act like this
is a bump in the road. I think this move
right here, this soon in his career officially bus mode.
I mean, that's where I think he is.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Now.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
When you say bumping row, you're saying bumping and road
for the team, or you're saying bumping roll for him.
Because if you're saying him, then that's when I'll disagree.
If you're saying the team, then clearly right, they haven't.
They have no identity. And we know one thing. In
any league and anything you do, you have to have
an identity. And usually you can make sense of something like,
let's say this was the equivalent to what the Detroit
Pistons might do. Say, hey, lo, we ain't gonna make
(07:07):
no big moves because you know, if we lose again,
there's a Cooper flag on the other side. What the
Panthers are doing right now, you don't know what they're doing.
They don't have an identity on either side of the ball.
And what makes this bad, Rob, is not just that
Bryce Young is playing bad. It's that to me, the
whole entire front is bad. The offensive line is bad,
(07:28):
the weapons are bad, the offensive play calls back, the
defensive side of the ball is bag. And he's coming
into this on a couple of things. Rob, He's coming
in now, let's go back. So I got the chance
to kind of cover this kid. He's from southern California,
went to modern day one championships or competing for championships.
There goes to Alabama, balls out, wins a Heisman so
all of a sudden, it's not as if he can play.
(07:50):
But sometimes you go to the wrong environment, and who's
done anything in Carolina in the last seven eight years
since Oka.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Cam Newton didn't jump on the super Ball.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
And here is where we're gonna disagree, because I'm not
saying it's a perfect situation. But you also can't give
this kid a pass and act like because CJ. Stroud
was drafted after him and he's lighting up the world,
and I get it when he got to Houston with
a new coach and no one was expecting any of it.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Would you admit that no one was expecting.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
So I can't look at it and just be like, well,
it's all Carolina's fault, and then you go, well, except
for the time they went to the Super Bowl, well
except for the time. The bottom line is, does he
look like a good quarterback to you.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
At this point? Absolutely absolutely not. And that's where the
issue is.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
He's undersized, he doesn't look like he like a good quarterback,
like he's just from the eye test.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Forget about the stats like the eye test.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
And number three, the guy drafted after him is balling out,
so he looks even worse when you add all that together,
and that's why he's in this predicament.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Well, that's why the only thing I would say about
the speed bump is you and I ha. Let's say
the odd couple with Robin Kelvin was happening three years ago,
we'd have been having the same conversation about Sam Darnold, right.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
He looked pretty good to see. He wasn't doing anything.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Now, didn't any do anything in Carolina, didn't do anything.
It was a backup in forty nine ers and didn't
do anything with the Jets, And there's opportunity. Sometimes you
get these opportunities with the team that believes you, that
has an identity, that has a system. So right now,
Bryce Young absolutely deserves this benching without a doubt. Only
I was just you're just not into the bust thing
Yeteah too. So he's twenty three years old, just turned
(09:34):
twenty three, like a month ago. He's twenty three years old.
So you can't be a bust at twenty three. No,
I'd be a bust at twenty one. If you're no good,
you can be a buss. But I think his track
record as far as high school then college has shown
that he's willing to work for it, He's willing need
to get better. He's been No coach has ever said
anything bad about him. Now, does he have to turn
around and all of a sudden be you know, the
(09:55):
reincarnation of Joe Montana. No, but I'm saying I'm gonna
I'm gonna reserve the bus for now.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Bitching.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Absolutely might have to hold a clipboard for the next
two three years. Absolutely, but I'm not gonna say he is.
He's a bus right now. But I just think it's
a disappointment when you look at the Panthers right now
as a whole.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Usually Rob there's something you can point to.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Even as a fan, to say, man, we suck right now,
but at least our defense blank.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
No, I agree the Panthers are a bad organization. They
got a lot of issues. But just the eye test
is the problem with Bryce Young. There have been quarterbacks
you know who are on bad team. You look at
him and go, no, this guy can play. Okay, he
just gotta protect them. And if they do this and
add some weapons, this guy can play. So it just
(10:41):
doesn't feel like that, and I think I think he's
in a bad spot. And then just the idea of
going to Andy Dalton like that's a dead end. There's
nothing there other than let's instead of saying, we're just
gonna play this kid and really like see if we
can get something out of him.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
But you saw some of the plays.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
This past Sunday where he's running around and running the
wrong way and feeling one of the receivers was visibly upset.
He just threw a couple of really bad balls. There's
a lot of stuff there to unpack where you can
easily say, my god, the Panthers blew it by picking
Bryce Young and that's.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Where and now to get on Bryce Young, because I mean,
let me get on Bryce Young.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
He has not looked great.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
He hasn't had anything that as of now makes you
hang your hat on something and say, all right, we
tighten up this offensive language.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
By the way, is currently last in the league offensive
line to run them.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
So that's why I said there's a lot of factors
against some However, to be fair against him, he hasn't
done anything to make you say, man, he's gonna look
special if this. So that's why the benching. Benching occurs
with him. The other thing that he's also doing rob
and you know, This is applicable in lights in so
many different aspects. You know what else he's doing. He's
sending us vertically challenged brothers back. Okay, now, Elijah, don't laugh. Okay,
(12:00):
your boy was four eleven in high school. So it's
five foot ten and almost ten and a half statue right,
too much?
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Too much?
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Eleven and you will eleven elevend What.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
If I would have been if I would have seen
you in high school at four eleven, I would have
come up to you and picked you up, and I.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Would have put I'll tell you how to put you
on the locker.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Your boy didn't play, you know, you know how the
short dudes, they always the crazy ones. Don't let this
baby face fool you. Okay, now you get did you
get rouffed up? And I was, first of all, was
too cool to get roughed there? Everybody everybody like Dub
everyone up the like dub Man, what up?
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Dub? You know I was too I was too cool.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
However, where I'm going with this is your boy kept
growing a little bit, right, I got to this whole
five ten and a half. I feel like I'm six
five rops. Where I'm going with this is what was
the conversation with Bryce Young when he was coming out.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
You said it earlier. Too small, he's too small.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
And usually when you have somebody who can comes out
and come out and be an anomaly or at least
kind of break the stereotype, then that bolts well for
the rest of them. Right, So if he comes out
and let's say he bawled last year, this year, now
the next guy who's five ten, five eleven, six foot
is great. That he benefited from Russell Wilson, he benefited
from Drew Brees, right, those guys who were smaller who
ended up succeeding. And that's one of the things he's
(13:05):
also doing right now is setting anybody up who's six
foot and under back because they can say, see, I
told you he's too small. Look at the counterpart of CJ. Stroud,
big huge, big arm. We already kne what he was
doing in Ohio State. So he's also setting that next
group of smaller quarterbacks back as well by the way
in which he's been playing.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
And maybe the Panthers should have figured this out when
he came in for a visit before they drafted him,
and they took him out to launch the McDonald's and
they said, did he want a happy meal for it?
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Let's have known this. I should have known when this
was coming.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Where they take him next to Disneyland and he got
on the rise for free because he was under a
certain height.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Is that they did not think they should have known
him right there? When then when they offered him a
happy man, I don't like the way you're looking at it.
I told him five ten and a half.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Now, all right, don't disrespect me like that, Rob, I
don't like the way you're looking. But no, he honestly
put himself in a position where, look, bru sometimes you
got to have a seat, right you just got to
have this seat. Now that doesn't mean it's the end
of your career, but you got to have this seat.
You're not playing well, and everybody in that organization has
to find somebody to blame.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Right.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
They're not going to fire themselves. Coach, you can't get
from of everybody, right GM. We can't just halt, you know,
alter the whole defense or in one swoop. So somebody
has to take the blame. And right now is Bryce
Young and you hope that he's able to bounce back
at some point, but you got to have a seat.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
There's a seat on the pine for you.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Come warming up, all right. We want to hear from you.
Where are you on this Bryce Young? Is he officially
a bust now that Andy Dalton is replacing him in Carolina?
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Or is it too soon?
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Eight seven seven ninety nine On Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. It is The

Washington with you. Fox Sports Radio a whole lot to
get to today. We got a about two and a
half four ways you guys Gonna rock? What is make
Sure You Call an eight seven seven nine nine six
six three six nine eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox were Company live from the tire rack dot Com Studios.
(17:03):
Rappit radios are the official communication device of Fox Sports
Radio and we had the chance to meet the Wrapper
Radio crew last week as it came in to the studio.
It really cool got to meet everybody. I think most
of them from Michigan, so that was really cool too,
right from the other side of the state. We had
a great time getting to know them. We Wrapper radios
are instant push the talk walkie talkies offering national LTE
coverage and no subscription or monthly fee. Ever, perfect for
(17:26):
instant contact with an aging parent. We use them at
the show. Of course, there's actually a whole bunch of
them around here in the building, so go to Rapper
Radios dot com now for up to sixty percent off
and free shipping. I talked to the crew there. You
don't have all the kids, so I was like, this
will be great for my oldest who will be eight soon.
You know, she's starting to get that edge like phone
everybody on my friends up hold on. I bet Giry
(17:46):
youboty to get a wrapper radio around these streets. So
feeling good again, Magic City mondays. Don't see any dollar
bills flowing in the area, so it's still early. We'll
see how Mary and Rob feel about that. We're going
to the phone lines here because again and we've been
talking about the news. If you missed it for whatever reason,
I though you were working hard. Bryce Young is going
to be bench quarterback with the Panthers second year now
(18:08):
being benched two and sixteen. As we mentioned earlier as
a starter, clearly not good. I do want to get
to some of his numbers from last season to kind
of prove my point that there's something still in that tank.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Rode while you're ready to bail out on them already.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Again, if you want to call that eight seven seven
nine ninety six six three sixty nine eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox, let's get to a call ross
through that.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Marty in Kentucky. You're on the odd couple Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
What's up? Marty? You would be the first caller. How
are you?
Speaker 6 (18:35):
I'm fine? How are you guys?
Speaker 1 (18:36):
What's up? Marty?
Speaker 7 (18:38):
Well, I'm I'm gonna play from your from your well.
I was already thinking this and I felt like you
feld it, but you know.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
Just a man, dude, you.
Speaker 7 (18:51):
You said it first, even though it was going in
my mind. Sam Donalds is a great example of going
to the wrong places. He got his chances.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
What is the dona went to eight wrong places? Is
that what he left? The eight Marty eight? Wrong part?
All right?
Speaker 2 (19:06):
But he was not like he hasn't. He went to
one team, it didn't work, and he went somewhere else.
The guys bounced around like a ping pong ball.
Speaker 7 (19:13):
He probably with the Jets and the Banters.
Speaker 6 (19:16):
I think that's that's pretty rough.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
Marty talk that talk, Marty, keep going, brother.
Speaker 7 (19:20):
I feel like when you make the switch playing for
a team that's gonna have probably the best offensive line
in the NCAA, and you got the best running backs,
and you got the best ride receivers, and then you
go to the NFL, you got adjust to the speed.
Only you don't have the weapons. You have a terrible
on line, you don't have receivers on.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
All top picks, Marty go to bad teams. All top
quarterbacks go to bad teams. That's how it works. Stop it.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
You're not gonna go to a great situation normally as
a as a top quarterback.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Are you thank you, Marty? Well no, let me jump
in for Marty. It's not that you're going to the
great situation too. But can I go to a competent situation?
Can I go to a for instance, if you look
at Kayla Williams, right, he goes to the Bears. All right,
they got some offensive players, they got some backs, they
have some solid defense. So you see what he's able
to do. Bruce Young came to nothing. And mind you
(20:15):
mind before we get to another quick call, if you
look at the stats we were talking about, what did
he do last year, well seventy basically seventy four passer rating,
almost sixty percent completion, eleven touchdowns, ten interceptions, a buck
eighty a game. Those are at least in a horrible situation.
If you're saying, all right, if that's the floor, then
we may be able to get something eventually as we
continue to build around this player. But you can't not
(20:36):
build around him like that. You can't have no kind
of defense, you can't have the worst offensive line and
then say hey, go out there and be Tom Brady.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
That's not fair.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Chili Tim in Atlanta, you're on the odd couple of
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
What's up, Tim?
Speaker 8 (20:50):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Use what's up?
Speaker 6 (20:52):
Tim Grub?
Speaker 9 (20:55):
You know, I love Martin. He's one of our regular
college you know, yes, he was actually proving the point
I was gonna make sometimes, like especially who's like Alabama.
You can't really judge them with these guys because they're
playing with an all pro line in college, a bunch
of first round receivers and things, so you don't really
get a chance to judge him and say you might
(21:15):
get a kid, say like Josh Allen when he was
at that uh, you know school that was like an
FBA school or something. So, you know, I like to
see a guy do more of the less talent. Then
you give me a guy that's row with a loaded roster,
and you look at a lot of those Alabama quarterbacks.
A lot of times that happens with those guys. They're
just playing with a bunch of pro athletes to start with.
So I think it's the opposite of what Marty said.
(21:38):
I think, you know, he was overrated. I don't think
he's the bus I think he was overrated coming out
of college.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
That's fair to appreciate the call. Thanks, my man.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Let's squeeze one more in quick before we get to
newly Scrugs at the NBC Dallas to talk some cowboys.
Andre in Massachusetts, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
What's up, Draight?
Speaker 8 (21:59):
Hey, you know, thanks for taking the call. You know,
the new iteration of the odd Cup was great to see. Listen.
Bryce Young was not overrated. He was properly rated. But
he's gone to an untenable situation.
Speaker 6 (22:11):
That's right.
Speaker 8 (22:11):
David Tepper has proved he is the absolute stupid money
at the table as an owner in terms of the
decision that he has made. Does anybody want to bring
back Steve Wilks right now? We're where are those people
that want to bring back the team that was functional
and moving in the right direction. David Tepper has come
in and thought that because he's a successful businessman, he
(22:31):
can just go ahead and make work magic out of
a hat, and he's put Bryce Young in bad situation
after bad situation. Bottom line is this, Rob Parker, you
know this? When did the Yankees start to have success?
When George Steinbrenner finally step back and let his foot
Baseball people make the decision. That's why the Green Bay
Packers are a functional organization and the Carolina Panthers are
an absolute dumps dumpster fire. So to me, it's not
(22:53):
on Bryce Young.
Speaker 6 (22:54):
It's on the.
Speaker 8 (22:54):
Ownership and the carousel of leadership that he's been put
in that's allowed him to have these difficult joining his career.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Thankskicking the call all right, shout to Drem Thanks Dre,
appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
He's one of our regulars. To a lot of them
jumping in shout out, I like here on the odd couple.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
But you show what you're hearing? Ron, Right, what's that
day one? They already on your boy side.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Oh is that what I'm saying? Is that?
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Ay?
Speaker 1 (23:16):
One? They aren't Ryan. You're hearing this right, Steve, you're
hearing this. They one? All right, don't get crazy. Would
you just have a hamburger outside or something?
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Just saying day one, they're like, man, that Kelvin dude
talking a whole lot of sense.
Speaker 2 (23:29):

(23:51):
coming to your live from the tire Rack dot com studios,
and we're gonna take a couple more calls while we
wait on Nwie, who I know was on the air
and just getting off down in Dallas.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
So that's what we're calling it.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
I called he's probably gearing himself if he's got to talk
about the cowboys. That's what he's doing right now. He's
in the car. He just took a shot in the car.
He shot up some whiskeys.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
How about let's go to John in California. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up John, Good.
Speaker 10 (24:14):
Afternoon, gentlemen.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
How about you?
Speaker 8 (24:16):
You know?
Speaker 6 (24:17):
I mean, I listen.
Speaker 10 (24:18):
I'm not in California, and I don't really give a
darn about Bryce Young. But let's face it, you guys
trade it away all Eddie Wepeny had to get rid
of his best wide receiver to get rid of his
best running back. They trade their draft picks ship to
get him, knowing full well that this year, this year's
class was the draft classes that they're looking for for
a quarterback. They could have had all those their own
(24:39):
draft pick and probably had Caleb Williams right now. I mean,
how stupid is that front office?
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Okay, I'll give you that.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
I'm not saying that they're some great front office the
Carolina Panthers. But let me, John, I test, when you
watch him, does he look good to you?
Speaker 1 (24:57):
That's all I'm asking you.
Speaker 10 (24:59):
You know, with a line like that, how can you
look good? My god? I want to run for my
life just watching him. Whenever I have the opportunity for guy,
yeah that much, But I mean for trying out loud.
You know, a drive picks when you're looking at quarterbacks.
It's a flip of a coin because I go back
far enough to him, and I can remember when the
Indianapolis calls were sitting there going Peyton Manning, Ryan Lee,
(25:19):
which one should we go with?
Speaker 6 (25:21):
Guess what?
Speaker 10 (25:22):
We all know how that worked out?
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Right.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
I appreciate the call, John, thank you, and it just
go It goes back to my point of you know,
you've invested so much into Bryce Young, you gave up
so much to get him. It is kind of odd
and typically you ride this thing out as long as possible,
let me tell you. Most to say, as if to
just Cove, I know we believe and know we believe
in them, So for them to surround him with nothing,
gave up everything to get him rob and then give
(25:48):
up on him when it's not as if he's playing poorly,
which he is, but as if you have other great
things happening here. The entire system and everything is is
poor right now.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
I agree with the system and the organization, but the
biggest mistake you can make as an organization is playing
that game where it's not about being right, it's about
getting it right. And when you realize that it's not
gonna work or it's not good. You need to cut
bait and not play this game to be like, well,
(26:19):
we didn't make a mistake. We drive to the right
guys and all that. All I'm saying is you gotta
be getting it right. And if you really are going
to Andy Dalton after now you know all the other
issues the team has. So for you to pull a
plug on that kid in this situation, knowing you don't
have a loaded team and you got some other issues,
(26:39):
then that says something to me.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Can I throw this at you? Maybe there's also a way. Look,
we know we ain't talking about none this year, right,
we know we're not good. We know we're not We
don't have everything we need to be a successful team.
So you think there's a chance Rather there sitting on
this saying all right, look we'll go to Andy Dolphin.
What is it the red rifle. We'll go to the
red rifle. He can hold it down for more like
(27:01):
Raggedy Andy, Raggedy I.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Can't even lie.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Which, by the way, it's funny because Andy don't start
off having a solid career. What happened there? But maybe
this is we still have a little bit invested in Bryce.
We still believe in Bryce just a little bit. Let's
ride this season out, not get him killed, so that
if we can start to get some picks, start to
get some talent around him, next season can be the
last season we can really say, all right, Bryce, this
(27:25):
is the real last season. So you throw Andy out
there to say, hey, Andy, go and just be you know,
just survive this year so we can sit on Bryce.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
Hopefully Bryce can get better, all right.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Coming up next we will talk with Newie Scruggs NBC Dallas.
We'll do that coming up and a little Shekel City.

(28:43):
ninety nine On Fox Robin a sign for Sheko City,
My brother, are you ready?
Speaker 1 (28:49):
All right?
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Here we go a little Shekel City. Uh Friday, I
was one and two. My total kelvin is twelve and
eight since we restarted the clock in September two o eight.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
That making you that money?
Speaker 9 (29:01):
Right?
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Okay, here we go. Let me take some notes, put
some money, all right?
Speaker 2 (29:05):
So tonight my best bet, I'm taking the Eagles minus
five and a half. They're hosting the Falcons, So Eagles
minus five and a half. Also, these all were out
earlier on social media, So and so we're gonna talk
about I have the Braves plus one and a half
hosting the Dodgers. We have no score in that game.
So these all went out earlier for people who wanted
(29:27):
to post put some shekels down before the game. And
I also have the Mets minus one and a half
runs against the Nationals at City Field in New York.
So that again Mets minus one and a half, Braves
plus one and a half, and the Eagles minus five
and a half. And remember, Calvin, I'm not telling you
(29:48):
who to bet on. I'm telling you who I bet on.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
Right.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Why are you looking out nervous over there.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Now? Ty?
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Right now, you're doing it. I'm not mad at that.
And speaking of doing all right, that is not the case.
What's going on down there in Dallas right now? Joining us?
Is my man new He scrugs. Of course, you can
check him out in NBC down in Dallas. He's emmy winner,
covering everything Dallas for us. He joins us. Now, we
appreciate you taking some time, new newe.
Speaker 6 (30:21):
What's up, fellas? How we doing?
Speaker 3 (30:22):
We're doing better than the Dallas Cowboy and Dallas Cowboys fans,
I tell you that, Newie. So let's jump right in.
You're feeling good, you're riding high off week one. Dak
showed me my money, feeling good about himself, and then
baim the New Orleans Saints come in, and Saints come
marching in and smack up Dallas.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
What did you see? Your initial thoughts.
Speaker 11 (30:45):
Minus thoughts is everything I said before the season came correct.
This is a team that can't stop the run, and
this is a team that can't run the ball. There
were suspicions about the Cowboys up front on both sides
of the line. They beat a compromise Cleveland team week
one and played a good game, and then in week
two you get in a Kobiak who runs that forty
(31:06):
nine or blueprints which has been whooping the Cowboys outside
the head, which is what beat him in the playoffs,
and it happened all over again. So there should be
no shock in surprise about if you don't fix the
issue that you have, it's gonna be hard to beat
the good teams. They're good enough to beat the bad team,
but beating playoff teams that's been a problem in the
(31:27):
past two years.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
I want to hear Michael Parson's podcast on this and
how great he played, but I want to know.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
About the defense.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
From this standpoint, this is back to back buck woopins
because Green Bay putting on him in the playoffs at home,
and now their sixteen game home winning streak went down
down the tubes as well.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
How bad is the defense and can it be fixed?
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Nui?
Speaker 11 (31:51):
You got Baltimore coming in who who despite the loss,
ran for one hundred and fifty yards.
Speaker 6 (31:56):
They can't stop the run. The defensive tackles are a problem.
Speaker 11 (32:00):
Mazzie Smith as they drafted out of Michigan two years ago.
Mozzie Smith was the best of the bad bunch and
the other two dudes are old as dirt.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
So this isn't.
Speaker 11 (32:08):
Gonna stop against the good teams. Okay, so you're gonna
have a tough time beating the Baltimore, but you could
be the Giants. You're gonna have a tough time beating
a team like the Lions.
Speaker 6 (32:18):
You gonna have a tough time beating the team like
the forty nine.
Speaker 11 (32:20):
So this could be a team that wins, you know,
nine or ten games. But they got a first play
schedule this year, so they're facing a lot of good
teams and right now, Rob unless this defensive line gets fixed,
and mine was there talking to Mike Zimmers today, they're
gonna have some props and but by the way, about
the whole Michael Parsons deal three tackles yesterday. Okay, all
this talk about defensive play at the end yes.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Stop and Lawrence Taylor and all of that other stuff.
Can we put that the rest?
Speaker 6 (32:48):
You know what I do.
Speaker 11 (32:49):
I do a podcast as the Cowboys, and I make
one of the hosts man because I call Aid Hutcheson
Ivory lt. He had four and a half sacks yesterday.
I'm like, hey man, this is due out here leading
the league of five and a half sacks. TJ Watt
got sacked yesterday, Mile Darren got sacked yesterday. The guys
who are out here winning these awards and playing well,
they're getting it done.
Speaker 6 (33:09):
Where was Mikey yesterday?
Speaker 11 (33:10):
Last we saw on one of those Alvin Kamara runs,
Micah got.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
Blocked one on one. Meanwhile Kamara walks in the enzo.
I mean he walking in there so much as just
sliding the ball over the over the pielte. It was embarrassing.
It was embarrassing. So all this talking, all this field guns.
Speaker 11 (33:25):
See, I came out the hope you by every cowboy
thinking this shot of hope him from Jerry hoping this
is a year. I'm like, guys, get up that narcotic man.
Don't buy into it. And if you can't win up
front in the NFL against good teams, it's hard to
win the Super Bowl. Name me a super Bowl team
where you don't have a good d line, where you
don't have a good dominant offensive line, it's really hard
(33:47):
to win that way.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
He tell us, how you really feel newly drugs again,
NBC out there in Dallas covering the Dallas Cowboys for
us knowing you kind of touched on something I wanted
to get you. There's a such thing. As we listen,
there's gonna be a long season. You're gonna have to
There's gonna be some fluky games where you say, uh oh,
maybe just we just didn't have it, or a couple
of early weird turnovers, you know what I mean, and
the score will inflate what really happened.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
This is not the case.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
They were flat out dominant, dominated in all the aspects
of the game.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
And so to me, I look at it as you
mentioned all the things.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Defensively, they have some deficiencies, but are the Saints who
or are scoring all over.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
The place for ast couple of weeks and looking good.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Is this also maybe they're better than we thought the
Saints coming in Derek Carr's focus, Kamar is looking like
the Tomorrow of years past? Or is this also the
Dallas Carbons or that bad defensively? Is there somewhere in
the middle at all?
Speaker 11 (34:41):
Two weeks into this thing, we don't know. I mean,
remember last year, the first ten weeks of the season,
the Eagles looked really good and that fell apart at
the end.
Speaker 6 (34:46):
Of the year.
Speaker 11 (34:47):
So let's get some more time. You know, time is
gonna either expose you or promote you. But right now,
the Saints that faced two teams who cannot stop the runday,
they can't stop it. And so when they face a
team that can stop the run, let's see what they
do differently. And somebody put some pressure on Derek Carrcy
if Derek Carr turns into a guy who's committed a
lot of turnovers during during the years when he hasn't
(35:08):
played well, So I think the jury is still out there.
But I'll say this, I think Tampa or New Orleans
will win that division.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Hey Newie, how about the Dallas running game? Nice to
have Zekiel Elliott back, right and I'm just like, what
did they do in the off season? Unbelievable? And then
they bring Zeke back? I mean, what, where's the running game?
Speaker 11 (35:36):
You know what it's gonna be Dalvin Cook this week,
dustop Dalvin Cook.
Speaker 6 (35:40):
I mean, that's where it.
Speaker 11 (35:42):
Is, man, I mean really, if we're just being awesome,
so that's what it is.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
I mean, Mike was that. I was there when we
asked Mike the question today. Man, what about Dalvin Cook?
Zekie On?
Speaker 11 (35:49):
I think has like fifty nine yards in or sixty
five yards and two games.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
I think it's fifty nine, fifty six yeah, fifty six
yards Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (35:58):
I mean he's hey, man, you know what can I say? Man?
I mean it's it's not good man, it's good doing.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
They've spent all this money on quarterbacks, on receivers, you
mentioned all the stuff they didn't spend. How do you
think Jerry Jones we heard you know, yeah, it's his
show and he was disappointed in all of that trying.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Never they miss Jerry Jones's show. I never listened to it,
so I never miss it.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Well, I tell you what, man, better than that, we're
going to try to you know, what do you expect
Jerry Jones to, uh, is there some moves we made
when the game when the money seems to be locked up?
And we all know Cede Lamb is a real player
and Dak has proven to be a very uh talented
quarterback but not one of the best.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
What else do you do?
Speaker 11 (36:44):
There's nothing you can really do unless you're trying to
get out here at Mortgage and drastics.
Speaker 6 (36:48):
But there's surely not much you can do. I would
go back in this once.
Speaker 11 (36:51):
Again, try and see what Dalvin Cook can do because
the run game they have right now between Ezekie Elliott,
Rico Dawdle and Douce all that.
Speaker 6 (37:00):
We've seen through two games, isn't it? So you just
got to keep going back to the drawing board.
Speaker 11 (37:05):
Mike Zimmer said he'll try to be better with the
team this week. As far as running the football, you
gotta be able to stop somebody got to be able
to try and run the ball. So and the schedule
is not getting any easier right now.
Speaker 6 (37:15):
Their first six games are really tough.
Speaker 11 (37:17):
Fill with a bunch of tougher bone itself.
Speaker 6 (37:19):
I know, guys, I mean I don't have answers. I
don't anybody tells you they do.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
All right, Hey, Newie, we appreciate you. Yes, thanks for
the knowledge. Thanks for the insight, my man, Thank you
so much. Newie Scrugs from NBC Dallas, of course. All right,
coming up an hour number two of The Odd Couple,
we get deeper into the Cowboys and really open it
up for people to talk about the Cowboys and like,
(37:47):
what are the expectations. Yeah, you heard, Nuie. He gave
you some insight. But I'm sure that people who watch
the game are you are you happy with the money
that they spent for Cede Lamb and for Dak Prescott
or not? And then there's other guys that need to
be paid to So this is a this is going
to be interesting on this team. And I think new
(38:08):
He's right that it's they didn't do it enough in
the off season and now it's coming to play out.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
So we'll get into that.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
Also, we'll hear from Rod Woodson, the Hall of Fame
dB of course, and Fox Sports Radio NFL analysts.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
So we have a lot to do and I have
a special gift for you as well at the top
of hour two.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
So it is the Couple, Rob Parker, Kelvin Washington on
our maiden voyage right here on Fox Sports Radio, Stick
and Stay America.
