Speaker 2 (00:22):
You're listening to the Best of the Odd Couple with
Chris Brusson and Rob Parker.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Eli Manning is officially robbedg on the clock.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Right, that's right. Today.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
On Wednesday, the NFL and the Pro Football Hall of
Fame formally announced the eligibility is for the twenty twenty
five Pro Football Hall of Fame. Headlining the list of
sixteen first time nominees none other than Rob Parker's favorite
New York Giant, Eli Manning.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
And I'm gonna just start right here.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
If you don't think Eli Manning belongs in the Pro
Football Hall of Fame, you don't know anything about NFL
football and you haven't watched close enough. Because if there
was ever a Hall of Famer, it is Eli Manning.
You want to go and look at his bad stats
during the regular season and bring those up as a
(01:20):
reason that he doesn't get into the Hall of Fame,
and all irregular seasons weren't that good, and he's doing
not interception. But then on the flip side, you go
and say that Tom Brady is the goat because he
won all these super bowl not that he won him
by himself, but that he won all these super Bowls.
(01:42):
So you have a high premium on super Bowls. Correct,
all of these anti Eli people coming, Just.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Hold on, the turn is coming. How do you know?
I'm not pro Eli?
Speaker 1 (01:54):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:54):
I just already know. And then what is Eli do?
He wins two super Bowls.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Against Tom Brady, of all people, he knocks off the
eighteen and oh Patriots, Remember they had to send those
T shirts to Haiti, all right, that they were gonna
be nineteen to zero winning Super Bowl of Patriots. Remember
all that we never saw those T shirts. That was
because of Eli Manning. And not only did he just
(02:26):
win two Super Bowls and beat Tom Brady twice, he
was the MVP in both Super Bowls and had a
signature throw in each Super Bowl. So he wasn't there
along for the ride. If he doesn't make those throws,
the Giants don't win those Super Bowls. Oh, the Holman
(02:49):
girls were lucky. That wasn't the game winning touchdown. He's
still had to find plexico burers to win that game.
That throw to manningham up the sideline might be one
of the greatest we've ever seen in a National Football
League game.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Get out of your feelings.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Eli Manning is a Hall of Famer yesterday, today, next week,
next month. It's about winning the big games. And that's
what he did. Stop it already, Kelvin Washington.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
Can we give him? Can we give him a round
of applause? Somebody give him around the applause. First of all,
your New York bias just came out all over the
place right there.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
That was absolutely New York bias.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Now, let's talk about Hall of Fame versus Hall of
mid Is it hall of Fame or is it Hall
of mid Because the last time I checked, one of
the things we respected about the NFL is the fact
that it's difficult to get into the Hall of Fame. Right,
who's a better player, Eli Manning or Tara Owens. We
all would say Taro Owens, aror Owens doesn't get in
(03:56):
first ballot. Now, eventually he would get in, but we
like the standards has created. Right, this is the Hall
of Fame. We make fun of the NBA because it's
easy to get into the Hall of Fame. They led
just about anybody in because it's the basketball Hall of Fame. Now,
let's talk about the numbers you just chose to ignore. Yes,
he has two Super Bowl wins, credit him for that.
But let me ask you this was it Eli or
(04:17):
was it that defense Rob g Was it that front
four or was it Eli? Because last time I checked,
it was Michael Strahean, Justin Tuckanham Boys and my man
Jason Pierre Paul who blew off his fingers. That's who
was getting it done for them. They weren't lighting it
up offensively. They were mid even going into the postseason run.
(04:38):
They were just barely a five hundred getting into the postseason. Now,
you want to ignore the fact that your Hall of
Fame quarterback is one hundred and seventeen wins to one
hundred and seventeen losses the literal definition of mid like
exactly mid forty eight and sixty seven after that Super Bowl.
You're referring to only forty eight wins and sixty seven
(05:01):
losses after that Super Bowl win. He only went to
the playoffs six out of sixteen years, only went.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
To the Pro Bowl four times.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
Now, I'm not saying he's not going to get in
because of that last name.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
His name was.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
It ain't got nothing to do with it. Name was
Eli Smith. You would go, Yeah, he was quality player,
you solid player?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Why you reading off those weak ass stats? I got
something for you. You ready, please hit me with something.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Manning joined Brady Mahomes, Montana Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw as
the only multiple winners of Super Bowl MVP awards.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
And guess what. Every one of those dudes is in
the Hall of Fame, and there's.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
A hard World's Eli Manning not gonna join that group
when he's one of only five guys who have done it?
Speaker 5 (05:48):
There is is he? And then there should he? Is
he going to because he ain't Eli Smith? He's Eli Manning?
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yes? Should he?
Speaker 5 (05:56):
No?
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Should he be considered? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (05:58):
He's got two Super Bowl wins. I'm mad at that.
That's not an argument. Had a nice career in that
regard who he beat in the Super Bowls? Can you
can you tell me that Tom Braid your goat? Is
that Tom Brady? Your Tom Brady is Tom Brady's your goat.
But he's the greatest, not the best, but he is
the greatest. Yeah, credit him, credit him, but I think
he beat the eight And oh Pat, why are we
(06:18):
lowering the standard?
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Now?
Speaker 5 (06:19):
The Hall of Fame in the NFL is the hardest
to get into major league And if you want to
say that, I'm not mad at that. The reason why
they're both heralded is because of the standard they've sent
Eli Manny, you can't tell me he's literally mid five
hundred exactly. You can't tell me post that Super Bowl win,
he almost lost twenty more games than he won. You
(06:39):
can't tell me he only made the postseason six times
out of sixteen years.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Rob, Come on, Rob Parker.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
It ain't just about it. It's about the big moments.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
But it's supposed to be the totality of your career, right,
the totality of his career.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
But when you have shining moments in the biggest moments,
that's why people look at you and say, he's able
to perform when it matters most. That's why we don't
put guys who are regular season quarterbacks who put up
us pile up numbers, but they can't win the big
games like that. That is the problem. You always have
(07:17):
to win the championship or win the MVP or something
of that. Ilk that's what separates you, that's what makes
you all time great.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
But it has to be the totality of everything you've done.
Like for instance, I agree, we're not gonna say Michael
Jordan won all these and he shouldn't be in the
Hall of Fame because those wizard years.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
It's the totality.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
And all I'm simply saying is, aside from the two
Super Bowl wins, he literally was either ain't solid or bad.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
He was either yeah, okay or bad.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Ain't it about winning though, Okay, I'll give you a
perfect example, and I use it all the time because
this is what drives home the point. Marv Levy was
the coach of the Buffalo Bills. He went to four
straight Super Bowls. Nobody ever mentioned him as the all
time greatest coach in the NFL. You know why because
(08:13):
he didn't win. And it's about winning the big game.
That's what Eli did. You could have the regular season
during those two Super Bowl runs.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
He was five and but you gotta stop acting like
he was out there. Pat Mahomes in or out he
was out?
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Did they win? Both of those games were won at
the end, but the.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Literally held the offense that was scoring like crazy set
behind them both game that team, that team shut down.
You mentioned that at eighteen and zero, that that Patriot
team who had been scoring crazy points Randy Moss catching eight,
they was still losing the game despite it, and the
defense held Tom Brady to that. I'm not saying Eli
Manning did not have a solid game. What I'm simply
(08:55):
saying is consideration for Hall of Fame sure in the
Hall of Fame. No, And in fact, don't ask me.
New Jersey dot Com poll thirty nine Hall of famers.
Eleven of them said yes, ten said no, and nine
are undecided, Meaning you're acting like this is sure fire,
like this is just like he's a walking around Pat Mahomes,
(09:17):
Tom Brady, Payton Manning, his old fellow Hall of Famers,
possibly if he gets in, are like sounds like mid
sounds like mid to me? Eleven said yes, ten said no.
Nine on the side say yes. Okay, he needs the
vast majority. In fact, nine didn't. The vast majority. The
majority said either no or undecided. Nineteen to eleven.

Speaker 5 (10:52):
Justin Fields is currently the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers
two and oh h looking pretty solid, not great, looking
like Eli Manning right now, and the conversation becomes should
he stay or should he get once Russell Wilson's healthy?
Give Russell the start? It was presumed that Russell was
going to be the starter initially, then he gets nicked up,
(11:13):
a little banged up, and Justin Fields has been the starter.
You and I got a chance to talk about a
little bit, but you got Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano
published their weekly News Notes column today and they were
saying that Followers saying, how this is why Russell Wilson
is likely to get another chance once he's healthy.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
You where are you on this? We're winning? Keep rolling
with it?
Speaker 5 (11:34):
Or Russell Wilson's our guy Once he's healthy, he's back
out there.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
I'm with Russell Wilson, and here's the reason why, justin Fields.
You ready, the offense for Pittsburgh has one touchdown in
twenty one drives this season. I know they're winning games,
and you talked about the defense. They won the first
week on all field goals. So it's not like he
(12:00):
he putting up stats and you're like, my god, we
finally got him. He came from Chicago, he's got the offense,
he's got the weapons, he's doing his thing.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
The offensive line is holding up and all that.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Fields has gone thirty for forty three two hundred and
seventy three yards. That's like one hundred and thirty five
yards a game. That's nothing. And the only reason that
this works with one touchdown is because he hasn't turned
the ball over. He was number one on the Pillsbury
list for turnovers in Chicago. That's all he did. Fumble, tour, interceptions.
(12:37):
It was always a turnover, okay, and he hasn't done that.
This guy is two turnovers away from losing the job
because that's his history. He's got to do more than this.
This is getting by because their defense is so good.
And I get and I get it. You're like, well,
you're winning. If he was putting up decent numbers, then
(12:57):
you could really make a case to say why switch
out a wat change? But one touchdown for the offense
in twenty one draws that's not good enough. And when
you play better teams, you're not going to be able
to win.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
All right.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
So if you take out Derek Carr, who is like
acting as if he is Drew Brees right playing great,
there's really no quarterback lighting it up. Right, There's a
couple who had some solid games.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Now more than one ton down twenty nine drives. So
here's where I come out on this.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Justin Fields looks like a solid quarterback right now. Whereas
you thought he could be back up permanently when you
looked at how he played with the Bears, now we
see with the number one always the most talented quarterback
Kayler Williams, Oh, he is the best atch Andrew Look, well,
you see what he looks like right now with the
Chicago one guy's had.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Two games and the other guy had what three years
in the NFL?
Speaker 5 (13:46):
Right, But I'm saying, now you get him out of
that Chicago Bear situation.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Look at him.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
He's winning, he's productive, he's not turning it over. He's
making amazing plays with his feet. So what Mike Tomlin does,
no matter who's the quarterback, is at least win and
obviously not go below five hundred. So now he's got
a guy with special talent with his feet, not turning
the ball over. Young, got some size, and I think
the team likes and is rallying around him. Where we've
(14:12):
had questions about the leadership from Russell Wilson, we've actually
just shot there.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
No.
Speaker 5 (14:17):
Historically we've had question about his leaders Oh yeah, the
leadership is bad.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
He got them to back to back Super Bowls and
had it not been for an interception, they would have
won back to back super bowl.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
You know what, I'm not gonna let you keep doing
taking away credit from defense and running games.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Russell Wilson those first two Super Bowls. Was he a quarterback?
You know what?
Speaker 5 (14:35):
He was exactly what Justin Fields can be. If you
give him some time, I'm not gonna make mistakes. I'll
let the defense do it. I'll let the running game know.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
And I know that if Justin Fields this coming Sunday
has two turnovers or pick or whatever. People will be like, okay,
thank you and be ready to move on from him.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
Russell Wilson current, Russell Wilson. Everybody else is no.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
But that's just how thin the line that you're just
going to turn the other cheek and say it's okay.
If Justin Fields has a stinker, one stinker will have
everybody turn on him. The only reason no one's dogging
his numbers is because they're winning. But if they weren't
winning one touchdown in twenty one drives and they were
owing too, would they be talking about making a change.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
I'm just asking you all for that. Yes.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
If they were owing too and he had the same
exact stats right, one touchdown in twenty one drives and
two hundred and seventy three yards in two games, people
would be like, you're not getting enough from the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
We gotta make a change. If if was a fifth,
we both being here drunk. But it's not.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
He is two and zero, he's playing well, has not
turned it over, hasn't take bad sex and turn it over.
Let me walk you through the history of guys who
have won this thing and gotten people places. You brought
up Eli Manning, and I told you. It was based
around those defense. Let's go to another guy in Pittsburgh
who did that. Ben Roethlisberger on his own podcast was
asked and he said, I would stick with you. Usin
(16:00):
Fields reminds me and myself, big strong, mobile, can run,
didn't light it up, didn't put up big stats. But
I got fast Willie Parker, I got the bus terdo
on Betts, and I got an amazing defense. Let's ride
this thing out. And oh, by the way, I'll only
get better because I'm young. That's exactly sounding like Justin Fields.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Now that he's young.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
But he was in Chicago, and if they really believed
that he had that, they would have kept him.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
And quarterback they could anything in Chicago. Michael Jordan might
have been the best quarterback they ever had. Sid who
Sid Luckman, Sid Lukman don't even remember him being a
good quarterback in Chicago. I think Justin Fields is in
a position, a unique position where Bryce Young would love
to be. I was written off, a team got rid
of me. They kind of thought I wasn't going to
(16:45):
be the guy landed in a good position with a
good to great coach, with a great defense and a
team that is ready to do something right now, and
he's in a position where he can continue to win. Now.
Is he gonna like the scoreboard up and light up
the stats? No, But as long as he doesn't make
terrible turn on. I don't even think it's if he
turns it over. They can't be terrible tone of us,
They can't be horrible sacks. I think they might ride
(17:05):
this thing out. Mike Towmins the type of dude, the man.
They didn't get Russell Wilson for no reason. They believe
last year in Denver played well enough.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Uh that that is just a situation where the coach
just had it, had it for him and didn't want
Russ there. They took a big hit on the salary,
on on the what they call it the cap, a
big hit to get rid of him. They did something
that most teams would never do. That's a personality kind
of situation. This guy went to two Super Bowls, whether
(17:36):
you want to give him some credit or not. And
if you're Pittsburgh, theyven won in a long time. They
need just finishing over five hundred and I get all
that that's nice, but they haven't had any success. Go
look at their last six playoff games. They can't score,
but they can't score you. They can't keep wasting a
great defense without having any offense.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
If this was Bronc, you know Russell Wilson from seven
years ago, I'd be absolutely with you. But I ended
with this on me. For me, that's a great emergency
break in case of emergency. If I got Russell Wilson
as my backup, that's a good situation for Pittsburgh to
stay in.
Speaker 2 (18:13):

Speaker 1 (18:25):
It ain't often that I'm gonna acknowledge or tell you
that i got something wrong.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
But I got something wrong, okay, and I'm gonna come clean.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
When Wan Soto was offered four hundred and forty million dollars,
four hundred and forty million dollars, you remember about.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
The Nationals, Yeah, I said, this guy is crazy.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
It's not a forty NFL contract where it's not all
guaranteed you're gonna get every nickel, every nickel of the
four hundred and forty. This dude was like twenty three
at the time twenty four somewhere like that, because I
think he's.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Only twenty six, right or twenty somewhere. Yeah, yes, and
it's early twenties. Gotch you.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
So I was like, he's crazy, Like, how in the
world did you turn down four hundred and forty million dollars.
You could get hit in the face the next day something,
you could break a leg, you could never be the
same hitter, you could have a two year slump. So
many things can happen. So what and the National did
(19:39):
the right thing. They traded him right away. Once a
guy turns down four hundred and forty you know you
can't sign him, right, He's not gonna sign under any circumstance.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
They make a trade.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
They get some young players that they're rebuilding with now
that have helped his team. But now, after watching his
first and he went to San Diego, didn't really work out.
He was okay, maybe All Star team once, but it
just didn't be right. It didn't work right. He gets
traded to the Yankees this year, and my god, last
(20:09):
night in Seattle.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
He it is.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Fortieth home run of the year for the Yankees. Him
and Judge teammates each hitting over forty or more home
runs hasn't happened with the Yankees since nineteen sixty one.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
I don't know if you've seen the video.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
You know, all the Dominicans that are in New York,
they love One Sodo. They worship him at Yankee Stadium,
not afraid to play on the big stage. Has gotten
big hits for them. All of the other stuff. I
said he would never get four forty again, that it
(20:47):
was a mistake, and I'm wrong. I do believe One
Sodo is gonna get five hundred million dollar contract, And
whether it's from the Yankees or the Mets or somebody else,
somebody's gonna pay this kid because he's great, he's young,
and he just continues to play at a high level.
(21:11):
And you know, playing in New York, Kelvin everybody can't
do it. You guys, tighten up, they can't play. They
gotta get traded back out of New York. They can't
take the pressure. He's done it.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
All.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
I was like, is he gonna use that right field
porge and Yankee Stadium and hit forty or fifty home runs?
Just being you know, facetious or whatever. And he got
forty home runs, which is a career high playing on
a contract year in the Bronx.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
So I gotta give him credit too, because you mentioned
the Padres and that was a disappointing season for them,
for him, for them, you kind of you know, and
you know he's young to your earlier point, he's twenty five,
So way to bounce back, bounce back under the big
lights of New York with the pin strikes. So I
give him a lot of credit for that. But my
larger conversation becomes, if they're gonna give you four hundred,
(22:03):
four fifty five hundred, absolutely you take it, turn it
down once. Maybe he gets it again as you're mentioning.
But I put myself in an ownership standpoint, and I ask,
is there a player that's really worth that money in baseball?
Shohil Tony gets seven hundred million dollars, You got four
hundred plus for Mike Trout, Bryce Harper got a bunch
(22:25):
of money, Josh, remember Josh Hamilton got a bunch of
money before. And I asked this question, is there a
baseball player that's single handedly worth maybe three fifty and
above Rob That's my issue, not is he going to
get that, because that's just the way it goes in baseball,
is that it is any player worth that because no
single player means win wins. If I told you the
(22:50):
same guy who right now the Dodgers are up to
playing Marylands are up six nothing and we love he's
at forty eight home runs, forty eight stolen bases, talking.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
About Shohalo time forty nine. Now I think you got
a forty nine. Now show Hayes.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
That guy, well, he was the same guy with the Angels,
with another guy who is a generational talent, I arguably
a top five of all time if you will. When
healthy Mike Trout, Anthony Rondon, who got a bunch of
money as well, has hurt.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
But but I'm saying they do nothing.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
And so my point with baseball players is I wonder
if there's gonna get to a point and it's not
just because there's no there's no cap. But hey, man,
I ain't paying them, but he's really good.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
He get forty one run for the old woman. I
ain't paying them. Are you in the business? What are you?
Speaker 1 (23:29):
What are you doing? You own a team? Okay, you're
the Yankees. You're selling out? You got a fan favorite.
They idolize the guy if you don't resign this guy
who's made for the Bronx, the right field porch, he's
a left handed hitter, all the other stuff.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Remember, it's a business.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
It's easy to just say, well, I ain't paying that. Well,
you know that that sounds good. But if he goes
over to the Mets, what have you done? Like, I agree,
you don't just pay anybody, but you pay people who produce.
I never thought he would leave Washington and be able
(24:14):
to recoup the money that he gave up the four forty.
He betted two thirty six the part of that season, huh,
and then last year bettered like two seventy five. He
made the All Star team last year with the Padres,
so he played there like a year in change, a
year and a half, whatever it was. But this year
his numbers are incredible, his number, his numbers are great.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
And but my question is again, and it's you're in
New York, You're the Yankees. You have money, you print money.
So I do get that. And I'm not questioning necessarily
the Yankees. I guess I'm taking a larger point in
a larger conversation of most of the time these contracts
end up burning you right, because they're never necessarily going
(24:55):
to live out the duration of it. Right, You're not
gonna get ten years worth of talent from these players.
And also the it doesn't equate to wins, doesn't equate
to World Series titles.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
But it's not I agree with you that it is
not directly, but there is a product that you have
to sell, and you have to make fans feel like
you're trying to win and putting entertaining players on the field.
And my point is he has won over the fan base.
No agree, there's no doubt, there's no Yankees. And and
(25:24):
Aaron Judge, who signed a great contract at thirty one
years old, right, is gonna be dwarfed by this contract
and he can't what can he do. He can't argue
with it because the guy's twenty five years old. Aaron
Judge is thirty one or thirty two, seven years older,
So he's not gonna get a five years, you know,
(25:44):
but not what Soto can get. And I'm just saying
I never thought he would get more than the four forty.
I think he's at five hundred easily, easily because of
his age.
Speaker 5 (25:57):
Now you're listen, you're right, they'll pay it, somebody's gonna
pay it. Every off season most of the time, somebody
in baseball gives somebody some crazy money that makes me go, man,
that ain't worth it, because that person is not, like
I'm paying for Lebron. They just gave I know what
I'm say. They just give that sixties a year or
something sixty.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
A year, okay, and he's got like two playoff wins
and has stunk up the joint and okay, and they
paid him. And the argument was, well, if you don't
pay him, what are you gonna do?
Speaker 5 (26:28):
Well, this is the and it's the same conversation of
maybe I find something else. A little different in football
because the quarterback position can play a massive role in
your wins. Right, if you got Pat Mahomes, you had
Tom Brady. Yeah, but if you don't have a defense,
you can still lose. Right, But I can still if
you if I'm paying you sixty million, I'm hoping that
you can overcome certain things. Right, there's certain talents that
(26:50):
can overcome certain things. I will if there were no cap,
I'll pay Lebron one hundred million dollars a year because
if I got Alex Rob Robb, Gi Rob Parker and
Cal Washington. We got a great chance to go to
the finals simply because Prime Lebron can't take me there
because he controls the game that much, and I just
don't see it in a baseball player. They can control
the game that much, single single handedly, that they have
(27:12):
that I want to pay him five six, seven hundred million.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
You have to look at it and your point. I
understand your point.
Speaker 5 (27:18):
But if there's somebody who's gonna get it, I agree,
Wan Soto this season, that market, that team, he's gonna
get it.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
I will.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
I will concede that point. But every time I grit
my teeth and go. But but here here's is it
hardly ever works out.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
But but you have because it's a business, and because
you have to engage a fan base and make them
feel like you're trying to win. It can't always be economical.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
I get what you're saying, like so work for Angels
because they had but they had been spending a bunch
of money on every five years they get a new
player of some quarter billion dollars.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
But they also but they all had injury.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
I I get like they've had a bad luck and
a ren don't ren don't He helped the Nationals when
win the World Series that Jan Soda was a part
of on that team, and he winds up coming up
to LA and being hurt and not being able to contribute.
So those things can happen, and I get it. But
when you look at Wan Soda and say he was
(28:22):
playing on his contract year, he goes to New York
where some people have had meltdowns, and he produces. He
has a career high in home runs at forty in counting,
and and the Yankees are gonna go onto the playoffs.
They could have the number one seed, and what if
(28:43):
they make that run, and what if Juan Soda winds
up having a big hit a home run and them
winning a World.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
Series or getting to we might be having this conversation again,
and it might go from five to six.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
He's probably got one hundred million dollars possibility in the postseason.
They can win a world they win it. He's the MVP.
He hit four home runs in the World Series. You know,
then we may be having an extra one hundred dollars
you know, bonus. If you one hundred million dollar bonus
for Wan Soto, you're right that this is probably going
to happen. Every year we all go look at this picture,
(29:17):
look at this player who got some crazy deal, and
I just ultimately feel like it never ends up being
worth it.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
That's my biggest thing.
