You know, I mean crazy, it's crazy, but it's all good. Man,
What a show we have for you today. Connie Carberg,
the first female scout in the NFL with the New
York Jets. She will join us in about twenty seven minutes.
We'll do that sut a little bit. Yeah, jest, look good.
They look really good. Aaron Rodgers looked good as well.
(02:19):
Sean King, the former NFL quarterback in Fox Sports Radio
NFL analyst. He'll join us in hour number two and
as usual, Lamar Mitchell, the bet MGM director of Trading.
In the final hour, Wall so have the pigskin pick
off your first chance to try to pick some games, right,
we'll do that. For first, Let's welcome in the odd
couple crew, because we wouldn't be able to do this
(02:41):
fine radio program without them. Rob G is our producer,
Alex is our engineer, Steve de Seger at the anchor desk.
He'll keep us updated throughout the program. And Elijah is
our social media guru. So we are locked, loaded and
(03:01):
in full effect on this funky flashback Friday. So let's
get started, of course, NFL we get gear up for
NFL football and Sunday and whatnot.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
Rob G.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Let's start with the San Francisco forty nine ers. They're
pretty much they're banged up. Some weapons are gonna be missing.
Tell us who's in, who's out?
Speaker 6 (03:22):
Oh not just some of the weapons, damn near all
of the weapons are gonna be sitting out now, thankfully
for them. They get the Rams, who are similarly banged up.
They're down their top two receivers, Pukaakua and Cooper cub
But Brock Party will be rolling in this Sunday minus
all world running back Christian McCaffrey, minus all pro wide
(03:44):
receiver Deebo Samuel, and, according to multiple reports, likely to
be without all world tight end George Kittles so Brock Party.
The narrative has been since he's been drafted, what can
he do if you didn't have an all star team
around him? But how's he gonna respond when it's just
him and a bunch of guys. We're about to find
out real quick on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
And Kelvin this is the burden that he carries. Okay,
when you're mister irrelevant, When the team went to the
super Bowl without you, right before you got there and
they already had a lot of success, people look at
him and despite the numbers and all the winning that
he's done, he's a system quarterback that fits in the
system was already set up. You got all the weapons.
(04:26):
What can you do for us when you don't have
all that? That is a lot of times when you
take a look at people and go, man, he only
had two slices of balogney and no lettuce or mayonnaise
and he made some sandwich Like that is when you
win people over when you don't have everything and you're
able to make things work and come together. And I
(04:48):
still to this day don't believe people will ever ever.
I don't care what contract they give him. I don't
because a lot of that just has to do with
the quarterback and the timing of it.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
It's not based on really like what you've done.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Dak hasn't won enough playoff game for him to get
sixty million dollars. But it's his time and that's to
go away for quarterbacks. So that's why he got paid.
He ain't get paid for anything because they haven't done anything.
And in brock Perty's case, people will never buy into
him fully until they win a super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
And until that.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
It'll always be yeah, yeah, and I say, go on
the back. But you know what, we had this great
team and we never won a super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
The best thing about life, or the thing we should
all aspire and hope we have, is time. And the
reason I say that is it don't matter Rob Parker
not does it. It don't matter as long as he
has the time to continue to shut everybody up. So
remember Tom Brady was just a system quarterback. Remember that
(05:47):
it was that defense. It was adamister irrelevant. He literally
almost was. He was what you're talking about. He was
literally okay, he was twenty something picks difference. He was
literally the sixth round pick We make fun of his
picture that's posted because he was skinny and looked out
of shape and were like, no way, this guy's the
NFL pro.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
He had a dad body and he wasn't even having
any kids.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
That's what I mean. Looked like a dad boy. There's
no way this guy is an NFL pro. And oh,
look at him, he's lucky. Some people say that, look
at the system he's in. It's all Bill Belichick. It's
all the defenses, Adam VI and Terry saving him. And
you know what he kept doing. He kept winning, kept
showing up, kept winning. Did he keep showing up nine
years and that they didn't win?
Speaker 4 (06:27):
He did?
Speaker 5 (06:27):
He did keep winning. He didn't win a super Bowl,
but he kept winning. Rock party. All he has to do?
Speaker 4 (06:33):
He won? Anything else? Can he get some time? He's ken?
Speaker 5 (06:36):
And he what has he done? The NFC championship and
a Super Bowl? They haven't won though NFC championship in
the Super Bowl for at the last pick of the draft?
That before? Did they do that before? Where is where
is Jim Jones when I need him balling? You're telling
me if I'm the last pick of anything and I've
gone to an NFC championship game.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
I've gone to the Super Bowl, but by all accounts,
before he got there. Is my point.
Speaker 5 (06:58):
I can't tell you about the who's in the wold
in the black and white TV. I'm telling you what
I did. I'm doing on my clock. I went to
the NFC Championship, I went to a Super Bowl. I'm
about to get paid. And I agree this is a
moment for him to show them. This is where you
step up and say, all right, maybe I won't have
incredible numbers per se, but this is where I lead
us to a victory. I lean on our defense a
(07:20):
little bit. I lean on our running game a little bit.
I lean on our amazing play caller and head coach
in the system that we have so that we can
get some wins. Because sometimes it ain't all about the numbers.
It's about did we get to win or not, because
ultimately will forget how you won.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
We'll only remember if you win.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
So this is an opportunity for him to do that,
and it helps that he's doing up against the Rams.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
As Rob g said this matter of fact, this game.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
I mean you might as well if you go to
a game and you're in the crowd and you're in
good enough shape, they might call you to come play
for one of these teams. They might call somebody down
from the stands because there are banged up, injured players
on both sides of both teams here.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
But I like what Brock Perty also said. I'm reading.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
It's reading an article from Charles Robinson, who for Yahoo,
and he got a chance to spend time with Brock
over the offseason, and Brock said it out loud. He said,
the reason I'm saying this out loud that I want
my team, I want this city. I want this organization
to believe on me, believe in me. I want to
be the guy, he said. Because everybody puts out narratives
for you, right us talking heads, I want to be
(08:20):
the one to tell them depend on me. I'm here,
I'm ready, And this is an opportunity for him to
show it.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Here's some numbers, just to put some context to it.
During his career, Purty has played five games without Deebo Samuel.
In those five games, Perty has a sixty seven point
four not good okay, two hundred and seventy four yards
per game, only only eight touchdowns and six interceptions. With
(08:47):
the ninety nine point one passer radio. That's at the
two games, not eight touchdowns and six picks.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
That is not so.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
It was the record, okay, And in the twenty two
games with Deebo, it's almost seventy percent, thirty seven touchdowns,
ten interception, and a quarterback rating a one to twelve
point nine to almost one thirteen. Let's hear from Steve Young,
the former forty nine ers quarterback, and uh, what he
talking about?
Speaker 4 (09:13):
Party? What he needs to do this Sunday to win.
Speaker 7 (09:17):
If they're going to stay with the same plan, then
the demand for Brock is even greater. He has to
be even more honed on his efficiency to find players
that aren't necessarily the top of their you know, the
top of the game like Deebo, the top of the
game like CMC. And now I've got to figure out
how to get the ball to them, have them get open,
(09:37):
and I'm going to inevitably, Susie, he's going to have
to do more. He's going to have to move around more,
he's gonna have to put himself at risk more, and
he's gonna have to do things that aren't necessarily his
strong suit. And that might provide great things in the
future for when they get to the Super Bowl this year,
have to face Patrick Mahomes or face Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Can I tell you when he did that? And it
pains me to say so.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
Against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship game, they
almost Aden Hutchison, almost sacked him a couple of times,
got out of it, got out of it, ran for scramble,
some key first down runs, big runs, huge runs in
the fourth quarter, and I'm like, hey, this ain't brock party.
And that was a great showing for him to say, Look,
we were down, we found a way to win. We
were down, we make big plays. We were down.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
I was able to scramble around, make one play. Still
hasn't won the big game.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
Robis, how can the man play a twenty to fifteen
year career before we look back? My gosh, Kim pick
two years of starting is get you to a NFC
championship game in a Super Bowl? My good Mary, What
do you want when before he got there?
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Is my point.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
So if you're taking it so much, already been there,
the next step is to get it over the hump.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
Can I get you there? Give me time you were there,
Give me time you were there. Did you watch the game?
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Did you watch the game when they played the at
home on Christmas Night? Did you watch that game?
Speaker 4 (11:03):
We're going who do they play the Super Bowl? Yes?
I watched, and it was and he was not great.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
Listen, the fact of the matter is give the man
some time to get into another Super Bowl and then
we start to judge him. All I know is if
you're the last pick of the draft, literally they call
you mister irrelevant, and now you have become extraordinarily relevant
to the point that it leads the odd couple show.
Great job for you. You got to the NFC championship game,
(11:30):
you got to a super Bowl. Oh and by the way,
you already have your head coach and the team saying
we're about to pay the man because he's only gonna
make one plus something next year. But they've already said,
don't even worry about that, We're about to pay the man.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Are you convinced that the forty nine is gonna win
a Super Bowl with Brockport?
Speaker 4 (11:44):
Are you convinced of that? No, I'm not Covey. I'm
not convince anybody except Pat mahome'ious.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Who are you convinced of except Pat mahon Lamar Jackson
will win fair win a super Bowl. If you told
me who I believe will win a super Bowl or two,
it's Lamar, Lamar.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
We'll get there. I'm not so sure about brock Party.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
And I think that even forty nine er fans they know,
like as you continue to go, other guys gotta get paid,
you sort of holdouts they have. Eventually this cop comes
undone and you can't hold on to everybody, and then
all of a sudden you don't have those weapons. That's
why a game like this is very important to take
(12:25):
a look to see.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
If we don't have.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
And I'm talking about the forty nine ers week, we
don't have these guys, where are we?
Speaker 4 (12:32):
How good are we? How good is brock Purty?
Speaker 1 (12:35):
You get drubbed this week without your weapons, then you
start to think is he.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Really that guy?
Speaker 5 (12:41):
And you know the best part about that is Rob
that you have a John Lynch, a general manager who
has been doing excellent things.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
So it ain't all on me. It ain't all on it.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
If we lose this guy, and if we don't pay
him the money, we'll get somebody else we'll draft.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Well.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
So shout out to the organization for being well run
the last decade, where they continue to get to it.
The Super Bowl off is Garoppolo or Rock Party. That's
a credit to the organization. So I would love to
play for organization as gonna be like that?
Speaker 4 (13:06):
All right, here we go eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Does Rock Party need to prove he can win without
a stack deck? On Sunday we'll continue the conversation next
with you. Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight
seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. It

kelvin Washington. Oh, a funky flashback Friday, No doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (13:32):

Speaker 4 (15:59):
Give us a call.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. We want to
hear from you, no doubt about it. Let's kick it
off on his funky flashback Friday, Brian in Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Born Jude, Rob, the the new Kelvin come up to
Bombas and me all.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
Right, what's up? Brother? Come stars? Polly woofont say we
we we wee down the hall.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Unto the left.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
There we go.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Yeah. Uh no, I agree with Rob. I agree with
you that Perdy got to do something without his stars.
But I also agree with Calvin that yeah, and let's
see championship and to the super Bowl because it paints
made it say because I'm a Dolphin, Sam. When Marino
had the marks Brother's Clayton and Duper, they won a
(16:46):
Super Bowl. No, so yeah, but don't I hear that?
Speaker 4 (16:52):
And I'm not saying but when you when you.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Come from uh mister irrelevant or you're not a top
pick or expectations because the forty nine ers have all
these pieces in place and they've been knocking on the door.
If they don't get there, they're going to say, well, see,
he couldn't get us to where we needed to go.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
That's all about that.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Yeah, that's why I gotta do well in the next game.
I mean, hell, Colbray young in there, see what he
can do.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
Hey, and by the way, shout out to Brian, thank
you for the call. Steve Young is I feel like
Steve Young gets slighted when we start talking about great
quarterbacks because if Steve Young, if you're just talking about
pure talent, throwing, smarts, athleticism.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
We it ain't about. I might give you three after that.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
I might.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
I don't know if I can give you four or
five quarterbacks. I'm taking after Steve Young. But the only
thing I'll say, you keep mentioning it like as if
it's all on brock Purdy. I know, ultimately we put
a lot of the blame and the good on quarterbacks.
But I'm just saying he's done what he is supposed
to do, right he has done. Everybody will say it's
a system quarterback. Well, okay, he is succeeding in the
system right now. You know who leads the league in
(18:01):
passing yards Aaron Rodgers. You know why because he's played
three games. No one else has played three games except
the Patriot Jacoby Prissett.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
And we already know what that is.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Rock Party leaves the NFL and in passing aside from
or in Rodgers, who's up an extra game, and so
he just continues to do what he's supposed to do.
He continues to win. He can't please Rob Parker and others.
Because I got to an NFC championship get and a
Super Bowl. I have expectations this year, as long as
most of the people are healthy, to get right back there.
(18:32):
So I just don't have a lot of negative things
to say about Bert perty Now. Is he the sexiest
player as far as podium talk? No?
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Is he walking in the tunnel and with the swag?
Speaker 5 (18:43):
No? Is he Joe Burrow with the blond eminem hairstyle. No,
he's kind of boring milk toast g Golly shucks guy.
But he's getting the job done, and I yes, there's
absolutely root for him to grow, as there is for
just about everybody in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Will you feel the same way if they don't get
to the NFC Championship no matter how it's done about
brock Party no, meaning they don't get to the NFC
Championship game, Well.
Speaker 5 (19:10):
I will feel the same way as what I'm saying. Yes,
I will feel the same about brock Party now if
he has an epic collapsed throws twenty five interception of
the rest of the sea.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
And when we saw that against that that happened when
when he had a chance to change the narrative about him,
and he had that chance when they played Lamar and
Baltimore on Christmas Night, everybody kind of said MVP was
was real. I was right there, right, I agree, And
Lamar had a spectacular game and Rock Party threw four
(19:40):
picks and maybe would have been six if two weren't dropped.
Like he had an epically bad game and lost that.
Had he won the MVP, it would be hard to
still could have this conversation, do you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (19:52):
If he had an MVP to his to his trophy Kesey,
None of us in these studios thinks that he is
better than Lamar Jackson. That's not nobody thinks that. So
nobody could have won that saying. What I'm saying is,
but one of those could have won the MVP. True,
But you know what he did. One of those quarterbacks
got to the Super Bowl. He Jamal Lamar didn't, and
(20:15):
Lamar hasn't. Yeah, but that sh doesn't.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
But that team before he got there, It's not like
the forty nine ers were down and he showed up.
And took them to the Super Bowl. That's why it's
hard to give them all the credit. They went there, right, No,
that's sure.
Speaker 5 (20:29):
The no, no, no, no, He'll never get all the
credit because they have a great organization and they have
great players. Credit to John Lynch and that team for drafting, developing,
and trading for and signing great talent. But all I
know is when I talk Rock Perdy, the expectations are high.
He's shown up in some games, faltered in some and
like I said, he showed up in the NFC Championship game,
(20:51):
made play after play and unfortunately beat my Lions and
found himself in the Super Bowl. So I'm not saying
he's Pat Mahomes. Aaron Rodgers, you know all time Aaron
ros but dang it to be mister irrelevant to now
mister everybody has expectations.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
That's pretty impressive. All right, We got some more coming up.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
We're gonna have a guest here and just a bit,
Connie Carrberg, first female scout of the NFL history with
the New York Jets, going to talk about what Aaron
Rodgers and that team looked like in just a bit.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
First, be sure to catch live editions of The Odd
Couple with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven
pm Eastern, four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
All right, we have a guest right now.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
We are coming to you live from the tire Rack
dot Com Studios, The Odd Couple, Rob Parker Kelvin, Washington,
being joined right now by Connie Carrberg, first female scout
in NFL history. With the New York Jets and the
New York Jets taking care of business last night, able
to get a win over the New England Patriots twenty
four to or twenty four to three, and to be
honest with you, felas are like forty two to three.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
They dominated so much. Connie, how are you? Thanks for
joining us?
Speaker 10 (21:55):
Oh, it's my pleasure. Robin Kelvin, thank you for having.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Me on and on a happy day like, oh, I
bet before we get to the Jets and they performance
and they look good against a terrible Patriots team, I
mean they're bad.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
But just for people who want to know, how did
you become the first female scout in the NFL, just
give us a little law. How did you get involved
and how did you wind up getting yourself hired as
a scout in the league.
Speaker 10 (22:20):
Yeah, it was really amazing. This is way back and
back in the nineteen sixties when I was growing up,
and when I was twelve years old, my father and
my uncle, doctors Nicholas became the two team doctors of
the Jets. And I always played sports, but back then
there really were no women in to playing. There's no
such thing as flag football or anything like that. But
I said, I've been to learn about it, and I
(22:41):
was very lucky. The players the Jets who won the
Super Bowl were always at the house. Michaels, who was
a defensive coordinator, was always there. He taught me a
lot of football.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
I just kept.
Speaker 10 (22:51):
Learning and learning, and I grew to be really passionate.
Was holding my own mock drafts and don't ask me how.
I just had a street in Smith magazine. And when
I was a teenager and basically, you know, just one
game week was on. Then I went to the Ohio
State University and that was probably my best move with
Woody Hayes. Okay, coach Woody Hayes was He was so
(23:15):
kind to me because I went to the union where
they would eat and I had his book You Went
with People, and I asked him when he came out,
I asked him to sign it. We started talking and
he goes, man, you love football and you really know
your stuff. He goes, come over to the stadium one
day and we'll talk. So I did that and we started.
He said, you know, right after we talked for a
while and he says, there's nothing for women right now. You know,
they didn't even have title mind, they didn't have women
(23:38):
doing it Phillis George hadn't even started, you know, on TV.
So he said, but don't.
Speaker 5 (23:43):
He gave me.
Speaker 10 (23:43):
Words that I really live by. He said, don't give
up on your passion. You don't know where life is leading.
You keep going with whatever it is you're going to do,
and you never know the road that it's going to
take you in the turns or whatever. He said, But
you really love this next thing, I know, my father
has a birthday party and a lot of were there
and friends and family, and the head coach was there
and he said, I went over, sat down started talking
(24:06):
to him because I'm just I'm a pretty outgoing person.
And I said. We started talking. He said, you know,
we're building a brand new complex out of Hofstra University
on Long Island in Hempstead. He said, you know what
you know sports, and would you consider working for us?
And I went, oh, my goodness, and that was it.
And I started as a receptionist and a scouting secretary,
not knowing that a year and a half later it
(24:26):
was going to turn into actual scouting for the New
York kids.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
That is an unbelievable story.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
I'll tell you what I'm more interested in that forget
the game. I mean, this is good and I can
tell with your energy, County, and I can tell you
have an interject personality. Probably folks love to just kind
of follow you in your leadership. But let's actually get
to just the Jets in the game a little bit,
but specifically before we get to the game itself. What's
(24:52):
it been like just having Aaron Rodgers around and kind
of having him excited about last season. Boomy goes down
four plays in and then it's just been tough ever since,
right and the organization's been struggling. He even mentioned it
last night. It's been tough. And we really want to
get this you know, this city, this team going in
the right direction, So get me get the overalls feel
in temperament of the team, and then how important last
(25:14):
night was.
Speaker 10 (25:15):
Sure, I've been glad to I've been going for sixty years.
I've been going to training camp, whether it's at Peak Skill, Hofstra,
Cortland or now in New Jersey. So as I said,
I've never missed. I usually go three weeks or a
month every summer. I had a husband that was very understanding,
and so I was up for the past months. I
was up there at training camp. And the Jets still
treat me like family, you know, with Johnson and Joe
(25:38):
Douglas and are just unbelievable to me, and just a feeling,
you know, first of all, last year, everybody was just
so upbeaten. Then of course what happened was poor Aaron
after four plays. So now people were a little more tempered.
I would say, you know, because we just want to
make sure how Aaron was going to respond, how the
team was going to be, the draft picks, free agents
that we brought in to try to protect him, and
(26:01):
so I think, you know, each game we played three
games now and you can see how he has progressed.
And last night was the epitome for Jets fans. Or
watching the way he moved just he is just a
thing of beauty to watch him throw a ball. Besides
being a really nice person. I had a chance to
meet him, and he he has a gift of when
(26:23):
you speak with him, making you feel like you're the
only person that he's speaking to. And he's just so
I have nothing but nice things to say about him.
And then to see that game last night and just
have him lift up the team, the rest of the
team lifts up, and even with some injuries on defense,
to have seven sacks unbelievable. So it was a last
(26:44):
night was a dream game.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
No doubt.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
And the Jets have some expectations. You know, they have
a defense that people like a lot. They redeem themselves,
like right against the Patriot, but they're not too much
going on offensively the Patriots, so it's hard to really
gauge where their defense is.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
But it's a good defense, we know that.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
And they figured that if they could add Aaron Rodgers,
they have a great running game.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
That they should be able to make a move.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Now that Miami is going to be with al Tua
for most of the season, most people don't think that
Miami is going to be in the mix. So it's
gonna be between Buffalo and the Jets to win the division.
Do the Jets have a shot to win the division?
Buffalo is off to a really good start.
Speaker 10 (27:30):
Yes they are. I never count that map with Josh Allen,
of course, even though their defense was decimated by injuries,
they seem to have rallied. But you know, every game
is so different. As you can see this whole year,
teams have upset other teams that maybe you consider not
quite as good or whatever. So you've got to take
it one as they say, one game at a time,
you know, one quarter at a time. And I know
(27:52):
we have this little mini buy right now. Then we
come back with the Denver Broncos, so it's going to
be very interesting to see what happened. Then go to
London and Sam Darnold's gonna be playing quarterback there against us,
so he's gonna want to do really well well. So
you know, every game is different. We've got to stay healthy,
you know, that's really the key is. You see what's
happening with the Rams, right and the forty nine ers.
(28:15):
They're decimated already, so you do have to get a
little bit of luck and not being hurt, and that
to me would be the you know, the ideal thing
because right now Joe Douglas has brought in a lot
of really good free agents and draft picks.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
Last one for me, Connie, I look at they said
it was the first time Aaron Rodgers had thrown a
touchdown pass to a first rounder. How how great is
this for him to be the situation where he has
these skilled around him, because that's one of the issues
when he was with the Packers is that he didn't
have big name guys big needs have to kind of
(28:50):
get me guy DeVante Adams prior.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
To Davonteane DeVante left. So how is this great for him?
Speaker 5 (28:56):
That were almost eliminating all the excuses now if you will.
Speaker 10 (28:59):
Yeah, you know, it's amazing. That was the first time
he had a number one with Garrett Wilson, who is amazing.
And they're not even completely in sync yet because both
of them are just figuring everything out. But you know,
with Alan Wizard, you could see the difference from last
year to this year just playing with Aaron and then
now we started using the tight ends. Last night, Conkling
was good and Rutger had a couple of catches plus
(29:21):
they're blocking and Jets have a really good running game.
So and then the offensive line, which is still the key.
Even though Moses went down. We drafted Olu in the
first round to step in, but the rest of the
offensive line, knock On Wood is doing well. So as
I said, it's you know, it's it is wonderful for him.
But you know one thing about Aaron you can see
(29:42):
he is he raises everybody else around him as long
as they're doing what they're supposed to be doing.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
All right, Connie Carbourg, thank you so much for joining us.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
I know she's got a book.
Speaker 5 (29:54):
Go out there and make sure you find a book
or something because it's an amazing story.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Matter of fact, you know we're out here in LA.
Somebody might have heard it and want to make a y'all.
I thank you, Connie, We appreciate you.
Speaker 10 (30:03):
Oh my pleasure to both of you. Thank you for
having me on. Robin, thank you, Kelvin.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
I talk you soon, okay, thank you so much.
Speaker 5 (30:09):
Yes, indeed, yep, some great and some great analysis breaking
down what the Jets are doing over there?
Speaker 4 (30:14):
Who gets back to some more football talking a little bit?
Speaker 5 (30:17):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Did you see on Instagram on all over.
Speaker 5 (30:20):
But folks were trying to get that fifty home run
ball from show Hey to the point of beating themselves
up scret I mean jumping each other trying to get it.
Grown men going crazy to get this ball, obviously for
baseball history, obviously also for a check. So my question
to you is, Rob, what is the best piece of
sports memborabilia you have?
Speaker 4 (30:40):
You been in the game a long time. What is
it that you have.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
Shekel City the home base for Rob Parker's daily dix
against the Sprat.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
You know I knew it last night when the Yankees
last Remember I told you that it was gonna cost
me because I was two and one last night. Overall
total is now eighteen and four, could have been three
and zero because I got the Jets game. I picked
that game right, and I also picked the Dodgers. So
two and one. Here we go, Shekel City on this Friday.
(32:19):
Let's do it. Got the Padres. Of course this was
dropped earlier on social media. I'm me and Elijah takes
care of that. Best bet. Padres minus one and a
half runs taking on the White Sox in San Diego
Astros minus one and a half runs. They're in Houston
taking on the Angels, and I got the Twins minus
one and a half runs in Boston taking on the
(32:41):
Red Sox. The Twins desperately need a win. That's why
I'm all about the Twins tonight. So Twins minus one
and a half, Astros minus one and a half and
the Padres minus one and a half. And remember, Calvin,
what do they need to remember? I'm not telling you
who to bet on. I'm telling you who got on.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
All right, there you have it, brother Rob Parker doing
his thing. You know who else is doing his thing?
That is show hail Tony, which we'll have a conversation
about him and what he's doing, and just a bit
a little more specifically about yes we will in about
eleven minutes here, but also hits the home run goes
crazy against the Marlins. Wasn't forgetting against the Marlins, and
(33:21):
folks are going crazy trying to get the ball. They're
fighting over the balls a lot of money. That's a
whole lot of money. I tell hey, I'm willing to
take a few bumps and bruises for that ball. So
they're going to get it and It got me thinking.
Rob Parker was saying, man, you've been in this game
a long time. I've been doing this for a while too,
and we've been around athletes, been at games, cover things.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
And how do you have anything to a value that? Man?
Speaker 5 (33:43):
This, this sign, thing, this picture of this, this picture
you have with an athlete, anything that a value, anything
that matters to you in sports, memorability anything.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Well, I will say this as a reporter, No, I've
never gotten anything as a reporter, like some sort of
memorabilia or making a ball or ask somebody for an autograph.
But when I was in college and I was, you know,
studying to be a reporter of Southern Connecticut State University,
I'd found, believe it or not, Dave Winfield's nineteen seventy
(34:14):
seven all star ring in a parking lot in Queens. No,
I know, nobody believes the store. Okay, So a friend
of mine, Jimmy, called me I had this ring.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
I didn't know.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
I called Yankee Stadium trying to give it back to him.
They wouldn't get back to me. You know, his phone call, Hey,
I got this ring. Nobody called me back. So Reggie
Jackson's in town with the angels. I'm in college. I'm like,
you know, it's eighteen years old, nineteen twenty years old.
So my friend Jim says, let's go down to the
Yankee Stadium. You could try to return the ring there.
(34:47):
Let's go to the game. So we go there. Clyde
King is.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
The general manager of the Yankees.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
He's at a hot dog truck outside of Yankee stated, and.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
This is all true. The press entrance is there. I'm
standing there. I look over.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
I said to my friend, that's Clyde King, the general manager.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
I go over.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
I say, hey, Clyde, I found Dave Winfield's nineteen seventy
seven all star ring in a parking lot in Queens
and I'm trying to return it. He said, son, show
me the ring. I opened my hand. I showed it
to him. He said, come on, let's go. Me and
my friend Jim. We walked straight through security, straight through
the press, get right into Yogi Barrow was the manager
(35:25):
of the yank at that time. Straight into his office
with Clyde King. And you know, he tells Yogi the story.
A bad boy's coming. He calls a bat boy. He says,
go get Dave off the field. You know, and Dave
comes walking in or whatever, and he says, you know, like.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
Hey, Dave, this this young fella has something for you.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
I said, Dave, I found your All Star ring from
nineteen seventy seven, and I'm here to just return.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
It to you. And I show it to him.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
He looks like, he goes, you never know what happens
to something when you give it to somebody. So obviously
he had given it to somebody else now and then
it was lost, but he didn't know it was lost.
So he said, hey, what can I do for you?
I'm not asking for looking for money or reward or anything.
I'm a I'm an aspiring sports writer. I'm in Yogi Barrows.
(36:15):
This is unbelievable, right talking to Dave Winfield. So I said,
is it possible that I can interview you? Maybe we
stayed for the game, get a couple of tickets or sure,
no problem. We go out to the field, We go
into the Yankee Stadium, dugout.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
I interviewed Dave by my mike.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Uh walk red recorder tape recorder, and then he leaves
us tickets for the game.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
But we don't even wind up staying uh for the
seats Uh, my.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Friend Jim talks to one of the Yankee announcement Phil Razooto,
tells him the story.
Speaker 4 (36:50):
So they let us go up into the press box.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
We watched the game in the press box, and then
Phil Razooto on television says to Bill White, who was
one of the other announcers. He says, hey, White, I
got a great human interest story. And he told the
story about being giving the ring to Dave Winfield. So
Dave and what he gave me was the hat off
of his head. Yep, So I have Dave Winfield's Is
(37:13):
that a ridiculous story?
Speaker 5 (37:14):
That's that's a great story right there, man, how about you.
I know we don't have that much time. I'm saying
thank you for the eleven seconds. You're lucky was worth
it because it was a great story. Mine isn't a story.
Mine is just something really cool and it ended up
being even not cooler because of it. But obviously a tragedy.
Mine very nor is a great story mine. Simply I
was at the other place to four letters. We had
(37:35):
a pool in March Madness tournament.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Pool.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
Whoever wins it, you get a Kobe Bryant signed basketball
with the letter oftenication, and then three years later or
so obviously the tragedy happens. So now it's like wow,
like that really, you know, it went from out it's
really really cool to like, wow, this.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
Is really cool. Speah. Yeah, but I can make up
a story if you want.
Speaker 5 (37:57):
I'll be like yeah one day and then me and
I ran know them at seven eleven and then I
was like yo, Cob, and he was like hey man,
I like Doritos too, And then he was like, come hang,
get together.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
I'll make up a story.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Nobody, nobody, I'm sorry, I know, all right, our number
two of the odd couples coming up next.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
To show, Hey or Aaron Judge, who's better.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
We'll do it next, Oh, Tony
