Speaker 1 (02:11):
Hey, I'm feeling good like you said. It's Friday. Man,
it's been a it's been a long week for everybody.
We got actually, we got some great baseball going on today.
We got some great conversations. So this is fun, man.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
This is the this is the easy.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Time, especially in another you know, week or two in
the NBA is fully back. This is the easy time
for us, who you know, get to do this wonderful
job that we get to do.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
No doubt.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Let's welcome into Odd Couple crew, because we wouldn't be
able to do this fine little radio program without him.
Of course, Rob g is our producer, Alex is our engineer.
Steve de Sager's at the anchor desk will keep us
updated throughout the program. And I'm assuming we know no
social media tonight, right, Elijah's off, and I don't think
(02:54):
a saga is working as well.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
So those guys, yeah, they have a.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
You mean, we're not feeding the streets.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
The streets you want to get on our Instagrams and
twitters and all that.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
It's a rare day when the couples.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I'm gonna I'm gonna have to tweet something out, man,
just say gee, we got to make it happen the streets.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Gee, it doesn't happen. I mean, these guys work all
the time. So I think there's another situation going. But
all good, So much to do, so little time. And
I do want to say one little shout out real
quick to my business partner of over twenty three years,
Tico Edwards, who tomorrow will have his fiftieth birthday party
(03:33):
in Detroit at this swank hotel rooftop. And that's why
I'm in town to celebrate with him. But Tico Edwards,
the best business partner you could have. Happy fiftieth and
many many more.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
You know what I just thought about all the times
I was in Detroit and then you know, popping back
throughout all the years living here now for over thirteen
years in California.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
I never went to the barbershop. What's up with that?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yeah, it's real nice. I'm gonna tell you some pictures
we got.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
At Detroit, mad like in another week and a half
or so to my great great legend he passed away.
We got to honor him celebration of life. So I'm
gonna I'm gonna hit you up, man. I might need
to swing by and get tightened up.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
All right, it sounds good. Let's kick it off. Of course,
a football Friday.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
So much going on with football on weekend long, and
let's start with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who still to me
are tippy toeing around the quarterback situation. They're three and two,
started three and zero, lost the last two games easily.
They have enough sample size that if Justin Fields was
(04:44):
their guy, they could just say, hey, you know what,
Russell Wilson got hurt.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
He's healthy.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Now we're staying with Justin Fields for the rest of
the season.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Russell Wilson will come off.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
The bench if we need him, if there's an injury
or whatever. Everybody's cool with their roles. Everybody knows what
we're doing. And instead it's just little by little It's
like they're waiting, like the stealers are waiting for the
other shoe to drop. And I don't think it's fair
to Justin Fields. I think if you're gonna I know,
he came here as number two and he got the
(05:14):
job because of injury, not because he outplayed him in
training camp, But if you really feel good about it,
I don't understand what's the worst thing to give them
the job, even Kelvin if they've changed their mind down
the road, like that's to just stop them from asking
this question every week every week about who's going.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
To be the quarterback?
Speaker 1 (05:37):
What if okay, and I can understand what you're saying,
but what if he ain't thinking about what they saying.
What if in that locker room they know what's going on.
What if within that building, that facility, they know what's
going on. And Mike Tomlin's always kind of been, you know,
really straightforward the media, like, hey, I'll tell you what
I want to tell you. I won't what I won't
if you got a problem with it, So what we
got a job to do.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
He's always been like that.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
So to me, I get what you're saying on principle,
but to me in that building if they know we're
playing pretty dog gone. Well, we had a game against
the Cowboys. Arguably we should have won. That was a
good win for the Cowboys. Justin Fields played solid. It
didn't play great, didn't play great, but he didn't play
badly either. He's not cost us a game. He's played
(06:19):
the best football of his career. And I love what
we have going now. I also think he ain't got
to make a decision in the sense of I brought
both of y'all in this offseason.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Neither one of y'all were It was.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
An obvious thing that one was the guy at versus
the other. And again we were dealta circumstance where Russell
Wilson was injured. If maybe he did have the lead
in the starting position, now he's out, and as he said,
we're leaving the door, jar I actually believe him. We're
leaving the George Jr. Because if all of a sudden,
Justin Field's at two bad games, bad games, not you know, solid,
(06:51):
but two bad games in a row, then I would.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Make that decision change.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
But I told you from the jump, I think Justin
Fields it's his job to lose. I think he's have
to have really bad games in order from to make
a decision. But if you're Mike tomlindorre Steelers fan, what
a great situation to be in where we got a
really good quarterback or at least historically has had a
really good career in Russell Wilson as our break in
case of emergency backup plan.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
It makes no sense to me, Kelvin, anybody who's played
on any team, there's a first string quarterback, right who's
the starter. No one's afraid to announce that someone's the
starting quarterback. And it doesn't mean that you can't make
a change down the road if you feel apt, if
you want to bench somebody, if you want to replace them.
So given justin feels the job, and even replacing them
(07:39):
three weeks from now doesn't change anything. The idea that
Mike Tomlin can't stay out of his mouth that he's
the starting quarterback gives me pause, gives me reason to
believe that he truly doesn't believe in the kid from
that standpoint, because.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
No one would be mad they were three and oh.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
We could have easily done it when they were three
and oh and off to a good starting He hadn't
turned the ball over. Now you've lost two games in
a row, and now if you lose again this week,
it'll be like, Okay, they've lost three in a row.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Now you make a change.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
If you would have announced when he was three and
oh that he was a starting quarterback and then you
lose three games in a row and he doesn't play
well or whatever it is, and if it's not fully
his fault, but you feel like we need a spark,
we need something different.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
No one's going to look at Mike Tomlin and go.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
I can't believe that he named him the starting quarterback
and then we lost three in a row, and now
he's putting somebody else in. No, No, what's the harm
in that? And I think you give confidence to Justin Fields. Finally,
here's a guy who was a top pick who was
discarded by the Bears. So for a confidence level instead
(08:46):
of having this guy like on pins and needles and
the idea that man, you know, I know I was
a top pick.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
I was in Chicago. They didn't want me.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Now I'm in Pittsburgh, we're winning, and they still can't
tell me that I'm the starting quarterback, don't. I don't
know if anybody else in any other circumstance where you're
not named the starting quarterback, especially if, as you say.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
He's playing, well, what is the harm in that?
Speaker 4 (09:10):
So here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Do you want me to tell you how I feel
about you or you want me to actually be putting
you in a position, meaning you keep starting what everybody
else's name starting quarterback.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Everybody else has named the starting quarterback, So you're not
I'm not asking you to do anything different from what everybody.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Else in the National Football League has done. The only place.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
They have a named the starting quarterback is Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Would you like to me another team that has a
situation where two quarterbacks not like this? They either have
a flatout starter or they have nothing else other than
that or a bum.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Quarterback.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Zach Wilson went to Denver. He was a top pick
with the Jets. It didn't work out. And guess what,
he wasn't named I mean, he didn't get the job.
I think he was even named third stream or whatever
they put in bow Knicks SAE. They just said, we're
gonna go with the kid. That's the guy we drafted.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Bring up Zach Wilson in this conversation, This is what
I don't get about you.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
He was a top pay. He was a top pay.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
He was a top and then talking like Justin Fields
and nobody believed Justin Field stuck. They just wanted to
get Caleb Williams. No nobody picks for him. What are
you talking?
Speaker 4 (10:23):
Nobody has fourth round picks, were top pick for.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Not a single not a single person in this league
thought Justin Field sucked.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
They just thought he needed it sucked.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
I'm saying that, But Zach Gilson does, yes, get Caleb Williams.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
They didn't give up on him for nothing.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
They got a rhythm because they thought, here comes this
all world talent and Kayler Williams, which is still to
be seen if he is that. So Zach Wilson, clearly
everyone's giving up on him. I'm shocked he still in
the NFL. And I mean that respectfully, meaning how bad
he played. This is a situation where they say, oh wow,
we got a kid with a bunch of talent who
was in a bad situation, as most are at Chicago,
(11:00):
including Caleb Williams. Right now, let's see what we got.
But he wasn't even necessarily supposed to start. We'll just
see what we got Oh, shoot, Russell Wilson is hurt.
So why do I have to name it when every
single week you keep starting. Russell Wilson comes back, he
doesn't look He said, he's got to knock the rust off.
Mike Thomlins said it's not just a health thing, it's
also a rust thing, which saying Russell Wilson looked at
(11:20):
a rusty even though he was healthy. So he ain't
gotta name it right now, in my opinion, And I
don't necessarily need you to name it when I feel
as though I've got your trust within the locker room.
I know my teammates are bien and what we're doing.
And oh, by the way, I just keep starting every
single week, so I don't have to do that publicly.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
And now he'll do it when he wants to do it.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
And if in a week or two he wins another
game or two, eventually he'll just say, hey, this is
our guy.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
But I think Mike.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Thomlins the baby, Yeah, baby, I don't need to marry you.
I could just tell you you're my girl, all right, don't
worry about it. I don't need to make a commitment
to you.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
No, I don't need to make it.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
I don't need it to you, right, I don't need
I don't need to marry you. I'll just just be
my girl. Don't worry about it. We'll buy a house.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Well, hey, Rob.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Parker, that other stuff you didn't know?
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Man, you just met you sugar handed starting quarterbacks. When
you have that caliber and that ilk. If you feel
like you have something, you don't wait. You just say
take to the guy and say, Russ, we brought you here,
but this guy came available. He's playing great. We're not
going to go back. He's the future. It's an easy
thing to say, and no one would be mad at you.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
What are you saying?
Speaker 4 (12:25):
And you know what else? What do you say?
Speaker 1 (12:27):
You know what else you said? You said you know this.
You want to show your confidence in him? You know
what wouldn't show confidence in him? If he's played very well,
then he had a game or two were solid, not bad,
and all of a sudden you pull the trigger on him.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Soday, you either believe in me you don't.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
The minute I have a game or two that we
lose and it wasn't even really my fault, but we lose.
All of a sudden, you pulled the trigger on me.
To me, that would show lack of confidence. Oh, I
believe it. You wait, never mind, you had a bad game.
I gotta get you out of here. No, right now,
he's selling them. Hey man, I love what you're doing.
I'm seeing what we got. I don't know you like that,
meaning we don't have this long history. And I also
have a borderline Hall of Hey, if not a Hall
of Famer quarterback here, let me just date a little
(13:03):
bit and see what we got, and more confidence will
be lost if I throw you in.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Say you're my guy. Say you're my guy.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Swear you're my guy, Tell the public you're my guy.
Tell our team you're my guy. Oh you had a
bad game or two. Get out of here. Don't go
into Russell Wilson. We're out of here. We're getting rid
of him. That will show me less confidence in him.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
I'll telephone number eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
You wear sneakers or tap shoes today?
Speaker 2 (13:24):
What do you got?
Speaker 4 (13:25):
I got on some some Jordan slides?
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Okay, just asking are the Stealers handling their quarterback situation
the right way?
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Kelvin says, yes, it is perfect. I say, no way know.

Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven, seven
nine nine six sixty nine. The way that the Steelers
are handling in this quarterback situation?
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Do you like it?
Speaker 3 (15:07):
You do not like it? Darren and Maryland. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Darren?
Speaker 6 (15:14):
Hey, Hey, y'all knowing my fellows. Welcome to the show.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Kevin, Hey, Darren, I appreciate you, brother.
Speaker 6 (15:19):
I'm gonna say it like this, man, They're handling it
totally wrong.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Man.
Speaker 6 (15:23):
It was okay when they had Russ on the injury reserve,
so Justin wasn't looking over his shoulder. But now that
Russ is there, it's like, you know, it's like when
you're dating dating analogie. Man, when the girl knows you
ain't looking at nobody else, she's feeling cool about it.
Speaker 7 (15:36):
Yes, you gotta put a ring on it so.
Speaker 6 (15:39):
She knows I'm number one. Yeah, you haven't seen let's
get married yet, but I know that I'm number one.
I don't have to worry about you stepping out of him.
But soon you always want your quarterback be playing aggressive.
You don't want your quarterback playing tenator. And Justin, he
said his best when he's aggressive, when he plays tenator,
he gonna make mistakes because he's worried about if he
make a mistake, there comes Russ. And honestly, I don't
(16:01):
think Rush is going to improve their offense anymore. The
last two games they lost, they didn't lose.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Because of Justin.
Speaker 8 (16:07):
They lost cause of the defense.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
If the defense is your number one thing on your team,
and I give you to lead with four minutes to go,
we can't lose the game.
Speaker 9 (16:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
But also in that game, I mean, the numbers are
from the quarterback standpoint. I get it, he's not turning
the ball over, but they're not that impressive. He's got
like three touchdowns and four touchdowns in one pick. And
the other thing is they had three turnovers from the
Cowboys and they weren't able to really cash those in
that would have given them enough lead to where.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
It was a razor thin for the defense. So all right,
I hear you, But.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Here's the thing, and it's just for you and Darren.
Appreciate the call, Dren. Why are y'all acting like I
don't know if he's on the phone anymore, but why
are y'all acting like y'all have never dated before a meeting?
Why is this man got to get married to somebody
he doesn't have a long term history with.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
He just met both of them. Y'all keep giving me
this dating analogy.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
If I got two batties that I met and I'm
filling them on courting them, can I get some time?
My gosh, I'll at like he like this is Justin Field,
third year with him, and he hasn't given him the rights.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
He just met both of them, and in fact, one.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Is very young, Justin Fields coming from a bad situation.
Justin's Field, and he's just trying to see what he's got.
I don't understand what the issue with that is.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Alice in Pittsburgh, you're on the odd Couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
What's up, Alice?
Speaker 9 (17:22):
Hi? Thanks for taking my car. I love you two
guys together as much as I liked Chris. I really
like you guys. Every day on the way home from Mark.
We've been a situation here that I think Justin Fields
has been running for his life a lot. Our offensive
line is terrible right now. We have so many injuries
that you know that our number one pick is off
(17:44):
for the season. I mean, they can't decide who to
put it, left tackle, right tackle. He's been running for
his life too much. And I think if we get
an offensive line behind him, I think could be better.
And I think Russell Wilson will be on his butt
the whole game if they put him in on Sunday
because because of our offensive line, I don't think that
he'd be able to do it. And plus Russell is
(18:07):
only here for a year. Justin is young, Justin could
run more. I have a lot of mixed feelings about
the quarterback. I think they need to leave Justin in
for now.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Well, that's what I'm saying, is make the commitment to
Justin of what is so.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Wrong with that?
Speaker 9 (18:22):
He would be more of a future for our teams
than what right.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Oh, that's not a question. Yeah, Alice, you're right, that's
all I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
They should make that commitment. We do that. That's my
thing is that he's the future.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Alice. We appreciate you, thanks for listening.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
And Alice, yes, I can tell Rob, she's she's paying attention,
because that's one of the things if you read up
on what they're saying out there in Pittsburgh, is that
with that offensive line right now, people are worried. Okay,
if you put in an agent Russe who doesn't move
like I used to, he's really gonna get beat down.
That's a concern folks are having about this situation. So
shout out to Alis.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
Thanks.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
But then there's even more reason to just say he's.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Not playing happened?
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Rob?
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Do you think Russell Wilson's gonna play it all this year?
Speaker 4 (19:05):
Barring injury? Though?
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Right?
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Because I no, no injury.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
I'm just saying, will he play no injury?
Speaker 1 (19:10):
I'm gonna say no, But it wouldn't be crazy if
he does. But I think no, no, no, no, I don't know
what that means.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
I want you yes or no? Is he gonna Russell.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Wilson, You ain't about to have me trying to commit
to They don't even.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Know what it's so hard the stuff to commit.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Whether he's said no, but it wouldn't shock me if
it lasts.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
But that doesn't mean anything. When you say it wouldn't
shock what does that mean?
Speaker 1 (19:30):
I'll tell you exactly what that means. They don't know.
Justin fields they're learning him. You act like this to
say this was Ben Roethlisberger. That's been our guy, and
it's like that, that's our guy. They're still learning. An
easy question. It's an easy answer. Is he gonna play
yes or no?
Speaker 4 (19:44):
The answer is no.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Okay, thank you.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
But see no, I know what you're doing, ro g
See what he's trying to do is give me to
say no. So then in five, six, seven weeks or something,
he can go see you said, come on, you said
he was never ever ever.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
I know what you're doing, Rob Parker. Just because you're
in another state right now, I know.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
I'm just kidding you.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
On the record, Jr. In Louisiana, you're on the couple
of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Jr?
Speaker 9 (20:12):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 7 (20:12):
Guys love the show. I agree more with the previous caller. Uh.
The offensive line is than shambles.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (20:22):
You can't put Russell back there for his own good.
Mike Comlin would have to cut off his eyelids this
so Russell Wilson could see all the people coming to
sack him. It's true. The only thing consistently that we've
been able to do is justin Fields be able to
convert some first down short yard at using his legs.
Russell Wilson cannot do that. And to Rob's questions about, well,
(20:43):
why not just make the commitment now, Tomalond said, all
along right that when Russell is healthy and able to
play one hundred percent, we will have that conversation to
make that determination. I think that's all he's waiting for.
The decisions already been made. Russell Wilson will not see
the field in Pittsburgh this year.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
I disagree.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
I couldn't disagree with you me.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
He's team me.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Why right, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
I'm telling you it doesn't make any sense. It's easy
to say to the aging veteran quarterback, you're the backup,
and I don't you came here, you're the backup. Whose
feelings are they trying to hurt? But he got heard.
He won the job out of training camp. He won
the So you can't.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Do that, he said, he's not gonna see the field.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
He won the job out of training camp, he was
named the starter. The only reason that Fields got in
there is because he was heard. So I don't understand
why he could say that, oh, d have no idea
he won't play. It doesn't make sense. How was he
named the starter?
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Then?
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Okay, I guess I'm not you're saying, why is Justin
Field's named to the start?
Speaker 4 (21:46):
He was only there started because no, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Russell Wilson was named the starter of the season, and
and he was a game time decision for game one
whether or not he was going to play.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Then they decided he wasn't going to play because he wasn't.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Which is altering my point of just simply you know
now that this happened week one, it's not like this
is week ten. Rob, like in another week or two
would have really made a big difference if he if
he said, finally, Justin Fields is our guy.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
You know, I don't quite get why you're making it
as as it had to happen right now in this moment.
All right, you hear we got we can give us.
Reach out to us as well on Twitter. We love
hearing from you.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
There. We got John Morosi coming up, but right now.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker. Weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Thank you, Steve, We appreciate it coming to you live
from the broadcasting line from the Tireck dot Com studios.
The Odd Couple, Rob Parker Kelvin Washington want to welcome
in to our guests, John Morosi, MLB Network, Fox Sports
Radio MLB and sign up John Morosi on Twitter, give
him a follow. What's going on?
Speaker 7 (22:54):
John?
Speaker 2 (22:55):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (22:56):
Robin Kelvin? I am outstanding? How about this? We got
a couple of Game five SAP but in two in
the span of less than twenty four hours. Dodgers Patters tonight,
Guardians Tigers tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
I cannot wait.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
How big of a game.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
And I think the pressures on the Dodgers, I really do, John,
And not that I'm not saying it because the Padres
are a really good team, but the Dodgers are the
team that spent one point one billion dollars. And guess
what last year and the year before they both got
knocked out in the first round. And this year they
added Shohei and Yamamoto. That's the reason they spent the
(23:30):
one point one billion dollars and you have these two
guys for this moment.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
How big is this for the Dodgers.
Speaker 8 (23:37):
It is massive, Rob, This is a defining night in
the modern history of the Los Angeles Dodgers. They of
course won the World Series in twenty twenty. I personally
regard that just the same as all the World Series championships.
I know it was the shortened season, but I also
look at this reality of that year. They only had
(23:59):
the man manage sixty regular season games, and we have
seen this team struggle to keep their pitching healthy when
they've got a pitch for six full months, and then
handle the postseason. That's why their current rotation is Jack
Flaherty and then Yamamoto and a lot of guys that
haven't been going deep into games. So this is a
(24:21):
major moment for the Dodgers to win this game. Otherwise
Dodger fans and you both know this, Dodger fans in
southern California will not hear the end of it. Between
now in spring training that the Padres for them. They yes,
they of course want to win the World Series. The
Padres do, but like Objective one B is to beat
(24:42):
the Dodgers because of what that means locally, and I
think that you're going.
Speaker 7 (24:47):
To see all that emotion come out.
Speaker 8 (24:49):
It's going to be a tense atmosphere. This reminds me,
guys of some of the great grudge match NBA playoff series,
whether it's Piston Celtics Pistons b those types of series,
whether it's a Classics deelicup playoff series between two teams
that hate each other. We almost never get that in baseball.
(25:09):
This might be the first time I've felt this way
about a playoff series since the Red Sox Yankees twenty
years ago, just in terms of how intense it is
right now. I cannot wait for this game tonight.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Yeah, you bring up a great point, John.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
You know, you look at obviously us being here in
Los Angeles. It kind of reminds you maybe when they
had those run ups against the Giants, you know, maybe
a decade or so ago. But this seems even more intense.
Maybe I don't know, maybe I'm having a recency bias.
Let me ask you this, does it Bolt? Well, Let's say, obviously,
if the Dodgers lose, we as you mentioned, fans, the media,
everybody's gonna be upset about that.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
But who does it bolt well for for the future.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Do you look at the Padres team right down and say, hey,
they're built for the next six seven years, Or do
you look at the Dodgers and say, man, if they
were only healthy, including an Otani who maybe will pitch
at some point here in the you know, near relative
near future, they're set up for the long term. So
if one team were to lose, are you still saying, hey,
they'll be right back at it and they'll be even
better next year.
Speaker 8 (26:04):
You know, it's a great question. I think that there
is more pressure on the Dodgers. I think both teams
they'll still be good in twenty twenty five. But for
the Dodgers it would provoke a level of questioning that would,
I think make them uncomfortable because when when you try
(26:24):
to spend your way to a better team, and to
Rob's point, you allocate a billion dollars, right, a billion
to two players in one off season, and then if
you get bounced in your first series, the knee jerk
reaction for a long time, and especially in a non
(26:46):
salary cap sport league baseball is well, you have a disappointment.
You're a big market team to sign a superstar. Well
you tried that right inside, it would look a little
hollow if they don't just look a little bit more
introspectively and ask themselves, Hey, why do all of our
pitchers keep getting hurt? Why do we have one of
(27:09):
the largest payrolls in the sport. And by the time
we get to we get to October, we're stitching together
our rotation with with duct tape and bubblegum like that
should not be what we're doing here, and I think
it would. It would provoke for me, rob it would.
It would provoke a lot of fundamental questions about leadership,
(27:29):
what's going on in a way that a Padres loss would.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
Not, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
And we got a couple more questions, especially we're going
to get to that Tigers Guardians, which is tomorrow workclock
because of the inclement weather that's coming in Cleveland. But
let's go here. John Morosi's our guests here on the
odd couple. Fox Sports Radio MLB Network, of course, Fox
Sports Radio Insider. The Yankees, they handled their business yesterday.
I went to Kansas City. The series was one to one.
(27:57):
They won both games. They're bullpenning over fifty ten innings
with no runs. They got a classic a start from
Garret Cole right when you want your ace on the
mound to get it done. And then John Carlos stan
swinging a hot bat for them. We know what Soto
can do. And now Aaron Judge got a big hit yesterday,
(28:17):
maybe he gets started. What do the Yankees look like?
I know they're waiting for the winner of that Guardian's
Tigers series, but the Yankees are for the most part healthy,
and they look like they have the pieces a bullpen,
some starting pitching. Are they good enough to finally break
this two thousand and nine slump about the World Series?
Speaker 9 (28:37):
Well?
Speaker 4 (28:37):
They are.
Speaker 8 (28:38):
They'll enter the ALCS as the favorite man who ends
up winning Tomorrow's game in Cleveland. And I think the
biggest reason for me, Rob is twofold. Number one Judge
is not going to be quiet for a second series
in a row. He had a fairly quiet Division Series
and they still won. His best game in that series
was his last one. And I asked them on the
(29:00):
field last night after our broadcast on TBS. I said,
what what were you working on today that allowed you
to have your best game of this series? And he
basically just said it's timing. I needed to get my
timing going, and you can understand it not I mean,
I'll say this, I have never been six foot seven before,
but I can imagine that if I was six foot
seven and I had six days off, it might take
(29:23):
some time to get.
Speaker 7 (29:24):
My rhythm back.
Speaker 8 (29:25):
And I just think it's different when you're six seven
versus I can tell you a lot about what it's
like to be five to seven, and it's you know,
it's it's different. I think that way you have, it's
kind of an easier swing, right, And so I think
in Aaron's case it takes a little more time. And
and but look at his season. Robs April was not
(29:47):
so great, May on with the best five month stretch
we've ever seen from a right handed hitter. So I
think that this postseason run is going to mimic that.
And the bullpen didn't give up a single earned run.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Crazy Holmes has been.
Speaker 8 (30:03):
Humnated, Luke Weaver has been downinant as the closer, So
that to me is what I see it. It's a
solid rotation, really good from Cole last night, and Judge is.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Going to be better last thing. Kelvin of course, as
a Tiger fan.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
You get me to it.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Go ahead, go ahead, Kevin.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
Yeah, just you know, Tiger's fan and looking forward to this.
And I think I will say this not to already say, oh,
they lose, but this has just been a great season
for them, for the city, regardless of what happens.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Since you're there, you might as well win Game five.
You got Scooba going. What do you expect to see
in this team that doesn't even know they're not even
supposed to be in this position.
Speaker 8 (30:40):
Well, you're exactly right, Calvin. As my own high school
baseball coach used to tell us, hey, guys, we're here,
might as well win. That's exactly what they're doing right now.
Might as well win. Listen, you're right when when Google's
on the mound, they feel like they're the best team
in the world. And and that's the swagger that they
should have on the field tomorrow. The one thing is
(31:01):
they got to get the righty bats going a little
bit more and and we'll see. Of course, they'll they'll
face Matthew Boyd again, who they know really well. They
need I think whether it's Torkal Sin or anybody else
in that that lineup to just link it out a
little bit. They need a little bit more from from
their righty bats to get going. Because we know this
(31:23):
the Cleveland bullten. You got class A one to think
it's gonna be hard to get him twice. He bounced
back really well. Maybe he was tipping his pitches earlier
on in the week. And then of course we don't
know what's going on with Kerry Carpenter, and I think
that's a that's a big question. Is he ready to
have a Kirk Gibson moment, Kelvin to come in there
and and and on one leg have a home run? Maybe,
(31:45):
But I'll tell you that it's gonna be a great
day for sports tomorrow in the Midwest. Michigan is not
playing tomorrow. Oregon Ohio State is at night. So it's
it's rare than on an October Saturday, the full attention
of Michigan Ohio's on a baseball game. But that's gonna
be the case. It's we don't often see Detroit and
Cleveland matchup in the baseball playoffs. We've seen Lebron versus
(32:08):
Chauncey Bills and Are Hamilton before. Yeah, have an NFL
championship game, but we have not seen this, So it's
gonna be a lot of fun to see this game tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
No doubt. Enjoy it. Where are you today?
Speaker 4 (32:17):
Are you?
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Are you gonna You're gonna be Uh? What game were
you doing?
Speaker 2 (32:20):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (32:21):
So I'll tell you what. We just wrapped up with
the with the Yankees and Royal. I am delightfully back
in our beautiful home state of Michigan for a couple
of days to regroup. So I get tomorrow, I get
to be a fan. I get to watch my friends
Brian Anderson, Jeff Frank, Core Layde Jamarrow. They've got the
broadcast on TBA, So I get to be a fan
for a day and just enjoy the game.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
That's that's right. You wouldn't. That's why you were in
Kansas City.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
All right? Thank you, John Joyce.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Man, I tell you what, John, You got me excited
about it. Man, it feels good enjoy being back there
in the state front us.
Speaker 8 (32:49):
Let's let's do it. You guys sent me a text,
but we can even talk right through.
Speaker 7 (32:52):
The game tomorrow.
Speaker 8 (32:53):
You let me know any time.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
Okay, you shouldn't say that's a rob because he will
text you, Hey, this is what I'm eating.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
This is what I'm wearing.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
And Elvin will only text you if the Tigers are
a head because once they fall behind, you never hear
from a loan.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Shut it, John, Thank you so much man. We appreciate
it all right, John Morosi John Morosio on Twitter, make
sure you give him a follow. We got Shekel City
on deck and we'll continue some baseball conversation as well,
because you haven't thought about the Dodgers.

What's up, man?
Speaker 4 (34:11):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (34:12):
It's time for Shekel City.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
I was trying to stall you out because I know
it might not be good.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
Shekel City.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
The whole base for Rob Parker's Daily Dix against the
Scribe was won.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
A little Shekel City for your Friday night. I got
two baseball games, which is all we're gonna do.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
But we'll have a three bets. So let's start with.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
I have the Padres plus one and a half runs.
That's in Los Angeles. Dodgers are the favorites, of course
at home. Also in that game, Padres and Dodgers, remember
they were eight run scored eight nothing in the last game.
I'm gonna take the under. I think that both of
these pitchers pitched well, and it's a three to two game,
(34:58):
four to three, something like that, two to one. I
just can't see it being a high scoring game. It'll
be really yeah, I don't.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
I mean, honestly, I think even if the Dodgers were
to lose, I think it's because again, the Padres put.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
Up minimum five.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
I think, I mean, I think they're just you know,
I think both teams combined are gonna score at minimum
seven eighties.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
You don't think more than wow.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm looking at seven more
so than eight.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
Anything. You think this is like twenty twelve Kershaw coming up?
Speaker 2 (35:28):
No, I just you know you.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Darvish pitched very well against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
I think he gave up what one run. I think
he gave it one run. I think I think the
Dodgers are going to get something, you know what I mean.
I'm not saying they gonna get shut out, but I
think it'll be a closer game.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
So I got the Dodgers and the Padres over eight, and.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
I got the Padres plus one and a half. And
tomorrow I'm gonna take Cleveland at home. Schoolbol school Bol's
been great against them, Cleveland's at home. I think the
Tigers needed to wrap that bad boy up in Detroit.
They go on the road. That's a big game to
win for a young team, to win up all or
nothing games. So I'm gonna take Cleveland plus one and
(36:08):
a half. It's respect to schoobl Is that the triybar
the underdog. Do you know what I mean, Kevin, It
says a lot.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
I mean also not to mention the staff for those
who just are joining the show. I mean, I think
it's sixty two and sixty six and he's winner take
all games.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
The home team is losing right now.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
You know, they're sixty six losses to sixty two wins
for the home team. So that's kind of crazy, and
I think maybe that's also reason why the Tigers are
favored in this.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
It's a definitely and Schoolble just been He's gonna be
the American League sy Young Award winner. So there you go.
Remember Kelvin, one thing, what's that I'm not telling you
who to bet on. I'm telling you who I bet on.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
I'm looking at your Instagram page right now and it
has you at twenty nine and forty two for the
soda that's not updated from what did you do last night?
Speaker 4 (36:54):
I like how you quietly just moved, not.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Because Elijah wasn't that I didn't get okay, I didn't,
I didn't get Ago.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
I was wrong boy, Hey, hey, Alex and Roger. He
was stuttering Stanley, what do you I did what I
didn't continue? I didn't know.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
I didn't I didn't get to talk to Elijah today,
and I'll tell you.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Let me see from yesterday.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
All right, So I got the Yankees right, Uh so
I was one. No, I was two and one yesterday.
All right, we got you at thirty one and forty.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
Three, thirty one and forty three. I got it. So
i'mill keep it down for next one thirty more.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
All right, I'm just saying you didn't want to bring
it up. I was a little no, no, no, We're good.
We got one minute robbed. All right, the Dodgers lose.
You think it's a it's a colossal failure.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
One hundred percent. But we talked a little bit about
it with John Morosi. One point one billion. Here's here's
the key is the two guys who you brought in
are front and center that can change what has happened
in the last two years. Correct, right, Oh, Tony could have
a big game and you have a modical pitt your
shut up. Yeah, those are the two guys you signed.
(37:58):
It's not like you signed other guys who aren't playing
today are hurt. The two guys you signed to change
the fortunes of the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Are front and center.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
This is where you show up what you're worth, right,
this is that moment.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
So I think that those guys have to show up.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
You're right.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
Hey, hey, the man is money. We'll tell you what
we're talking about. It is the eye couple. Rod Parker,
Kevin Washington. Put some respect on my name.
