you just wonder, I get it, you know, like this
whole build up and it's national television and instead of
just letting it happen because there's that moment or that
situation where you could put in a rookie who it
just feels weird that just because you make a team
and you're a rookie doesn't mean you play game one
or you get you know, playing time. That's why the

whole thing doesn't feel right because it's not organic. And
even you know, the Griffies are going to be there,
Ken Griffy Senior and Ken Griffy Junior. The difference in
the dynamic of that is that Junior was the star
and Dad was the veteran, right left handed bat off

the bench. That was a real job for somebody to have.
And you could say, yeah, we need a left handed
bat off the bench. Why not to be senior? Right,
he could still hit and go you know and d
H or whatever it is. But he wanted to start
a team. This is like so different because the dad,
the older guy, is still the star and the young

guy brought is it. So it doesn't feel organic and
that's why it's going to feel a lot of people
won't embrace this because it doesn't feel organic. And I
totally get that. There are some people will be repulsed
actually by it.

No, there are there are people who think that sports
is the last place, especially when you talk about we
talk about this all the time in this country where
a country could be sixty some odd seventy percent white
and the National Football League is seventy percent black, because
it's not based on anything other than your talent.

You have to earn your way on.

You can't say that in any other business in this country,
for you know, like a management or you know, meritocracy.

paid players, not before any other reason other than their talent.
And we don't care what they look like, we don't
care where they come from. Can he play, can he hit?

We're gonna give him some hundred million dollars. And this
is where people who believe in that and love the
idea of this the best person makes the team has
a hard time with.

In a vacuum. I don't disagree with anything you just said.
I think there are in anything of life, there is
cause for an exception. There is an anomaly, There is
a exception to the rule, and I just think you're
looking at one because again, this has never happened before
in the NBA. There's a great chance it never happens
unless Wmby has a kid like right now, and then

maybe there's a chance if Winby plays another eighteen twenty years,
because you know, he looks like he's going to be
a great what have you. This is just something I
think is so fascinating. We heard about the possibility this
is happening maybe four or five years ago, and it
was a far fetched idea. Maybe in a perfect world
it can happen if the stars aligned. Well da get

Rod Parker, the stars aligned. And this isn't just the
only way to make this happen is you have to
be able to contrive. Is it has to be a
little not organic in the sense that it has to
be planned out, because it would be different if Bronni
just happened to make the NBA. Lebron specifically said, and
so as Bronnie, I want to play with my father,

I want to play with my son. And in order
to make that happen, you gotta vocalize it. You gotta
talk to the team. The team has to figure out
a way to make it happen. It isn't just circumstance
that you actually get to play with him, not just
in the NBA able to play with him. But I'm
agreeing that this had to be orchestrated.

No, but the idea that he even plays on opening
night on a rook on a rookie goal didn't even
look good in the preseason. Is the other part that
where people if Ronnie balled out, like who's the other
rookie at that?
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, and like if you ball there would be no question,
there would be none of that.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
There would be no hate, no dislike of it, no
sour pusses, sour faces. Because he's earned his way on sure,
he should get some playing time. Did you see them
ball out in the preseason? No? But Bronni until the
last game where he finally got some points. Right, he
scored seventeen point but other than that, he didn't look
that good. So people are looking at this as saying,

this feels like a photo op for lebron. This is
about Lebron, not about Bronny. It's about Lebron to have
a photo op, to be able to say, see, I
was the all all right, forget that I lost the
most NBA finals of any other.

I want you to know that I'm the all time
leading scorer because I played like thirty seasons. And I
want you to also know that my kid played even
though Michael Jordan owned the Charlotte Bob to whatever they

easily put his two sons on a team if he
wanted to own the team but never did that.

Like, that's a feather in his cap, and that's what
this feels like to me. I don't disagree. I think
this is a feather in his cat. I think this
is a scratch that the Lakers helped him itch and
it's the scratch. And I think this is something the
league is embracing. I think the league wanted to see this. Listen,
you've been covering this too long and not understand that
this is also entertainment. Sometimes I think we get to

where we actually they sell any more tickets tonight. No,
I'm asking it's a story being told. Robin not saying
the Lakers don't need to sell they it's the same. Okay,
that's like saying the Yankees don't need stars, or they're
the Yankees. No, you still need story, You need stars,
You need story, and he's not going to be playing.

but you're sitting here saying he's gonna play a couple
of games and then going down.

we need you to go get better, and they're gonna
send them down to the G League, whether it be
tonight or in the next two or three games, he's
gonna go to the G League for a while and
he's gonna get better. And that Lebron and Bronni can
check that box, can say that we did that, we
were able to play together, be the first to ever
do that. What a cool moment. I don't see the

some other folks are saying, I don't see the big
issue in this because I looked at the list of
the last twenty years of the number fifty five pick.
When I tell you will not know a single name

That's but my point is, my point is none of
them does. None of them deserve it. None of them
even really played outside of a year. So I mean
none of them. Like when you look at these names,
I mean, I know the NBA, I love the NBA
and watched I don't know hardly any of these names.
I don't even know. If they walked into me right now,
I wouldn't know. So my point is we got to
stop acting like them taking a gamble on a fifty
fifth pick, doing a favor for the guy Lebron and

doing something cool that the NBA has never seen happen,
and being a part of that for a game or two.
And then he's going to the G League. What's the
big deal? Like, I don't get it. I don't even
believe he's going to the G league. He's not about
to sit there and just be playing every game.

Here's the reason why I don't think so. And here's
the danger. If you send him to the league, you
send them to the G league and he doesn't play well,
or doesn't shoot well, or is getting cooked every night
down in the G League because these kids are trying
to make it and.

They're like there, yeah, they're ready.

Okay, they're ready go at him every single night, okay.
And and and he's not shooting well, he's the airball
and whatever, misson lea, whatever it is. That doesn't bode
well for him to get back into the league, to
even make it legit. Oh wait a minute, leb Brown's
shooting thirty two percent, thirty percent from the field in

the G League. How can you justify bringing him back
up later in the season. Lebron can make the case
he can learn better from me here, with the coaches,
with whatever, practice against the best of the best. I'm
telling you, I'm not buying that he's going to the
GI He's going to the G League because he's gonna
go down there. He's gonna play against these other young cats,
whether they be just now rookies or guys two three

years in the league competing and trying to get a
job in a spot. He's gonna go down there, He's
gonna develop, he's gonna get better. This is Lebron. He
has his own personal coaches. I'm sure if he doesn't
play well, then is that help. Well, No, it doesn't.

No, I think you're the only person who has these
high expectations for him at nineteen twenty years old, who
just came off car ack arrest last year. Nobody's expected
him to be a world beater. So if he's down
in the G League on and off for two years,

year where he'll play more. This year is about playing

back in March or April. Maybe he'll make the playoff roster.
May see, you don't play in the NBA this year.

longer Carl Anthony Towns. Anthony Edwards determined to really just
continue to elevate his game, and you got the Lakers
who didn't really make any big moves. They kind of
resigned some of the same guys. Uh, what do you
think of this Laker team? I think the league hasn't

been like fifteenth some of the polls and an NBA
as as a whole. Where do you think it is Lakers?
And what do you expect to see tonight with against
the Timberwolves.
Speaker 10 (27:12):
Yeah, well, picture I expeck with the Lakers is that
similar to last season they'll be. They'll have a chance
to make the playoffs either as the sixteed for the
playing four of it, but I think that's their ceiling.
They're not going to get past the first round. I
think that they could be better than last season only
because they have more continuity and gave Vinton Is healthy.
But their role players only have a certain level of

feeling that they can reach. And that's assuming that Lebron
James Anthony Davis are going to stay relatively healthy as
they were last season. That's not guaranteed, but I think
they'll at least be better than last season because of
what I mentioned. I think JJ Reddick, because of his
lock to the least make better in game adjustments and
relates to the players will neild net improvement. But the

Wild Wall West has gotten so much better it's.

Enough for them to make a significant run. So as
I came to the Night, I give it to the Wolves,
even though it's still a work in progress for them
for try to mitigate Carthon Town's absence. Anthony Edwards is
a great star, and Julius Randall, even though he needs
some more time to figure out the Kings with Rudy Gobert,
it's not going to be the same effective pairing as

it was with Carthy Towns, but I think eventually it
will be. There'll be some more spacing challenges. I don't
think there'll be any personality clashes. So with that, I
see the Wolves being able to get to the second round,
but not anything beyond that. But it's only because there's
just so much Harry in the West and better teams
with Oklahoma City and Dallas.

you know injuries can't happen to anyone, it's unlikely it's

and Drew Holliday, they're all in their prime and they're
all pretty durable. Obviously, Chris tops Porzingis has an injury
history and that's not guaranteed, but he's a third fourth
option that his health and effectiveness isn't going to fundamentally
change their titles.

playoff push because of just how complete of a team

just letting it happen because there's that moment or that
situation where you could put in a rookie who it
just feels weird that just because you make a team
and you're a rookie doesn't mean you play game one
or you get you know, playing time. That's why the

whole thing doesn't feel right because it's not organic. And
even you know, the Griffies are going to be there,
Ken Griffy Senior and Ken Griffy Junior. The difference in
the dynamic of that is that Junior was the star
and Dad was the veteran, right left handed bat off

the bench. That was a real job for somebody to have.
And you could say, yeah, we need a left handed
bat off the bench. Why not to be senior? Right,
he could still hit and go you know and d
H or whatever it is. But he wanted to start
a team. This is like so different because the dad,
the older guy, is still the star and the young

guy brought is it. So it doesn't feel organic and
that's why it's going to feel a lot of people
won't embrace this because it doesn't feel organic. And I
totally get that. There are some people will be repulsed
actually by it.

No, there are there are people who think that sports
is the last place, especially when you talk about we
talk about this all the time in this country where

You can't say that in any other business in this country,

care where they come from. Can he play, can he hit?

We're gonna give him some hundred million dollars. And this
is where people who believe in that and love the
idea of this the best person makes the team has
a hard time with.

In a vacuum. I don't disagree with anything you just said.
I think there are in anything of life, there is
cause for an exception. There is an anomaly, There is
a exception to the rule, and I just think you're
looking at one because again, this has never happened before
in the NBA. There's a great chance it never happens
unless Wmby has a kid like right now, and then

maybe there's a chance if Winby plays another eighteen twenty years,
because you know, he looks like he's going to be
a great what have you. This is just something I
think is so fascinating. We heard about the possibility this
is happening maybe four or five years ago, and it
was a far fetched idea. Maybe in a perfect world
it can happen if the stars aligned. Well da get

Rod Parker, the stars aligned. And this isn't just the
only way to make this happen is you have to
be able to contrive. Is it has to be a
little not organic in the sense that it has to
be planned out, because it would be different if Bronni
just happened to make the NBA. Lebron specifically said, and
so as Bronnie, I want to play with my father,

I want to play with my son. And in order
to make that happen, you gotta vocalize it. You gotta
talk to the team. The team has to figure out
a way to make it happen. It isn't just circumstance
that you actually get to play with him, not just
in the NBA able to play with him. But I'm
agreeing that this had to be orchestrated.

No, but the idea that he even plays on opening
night on a rook on a rookie goal didn't even
look good in the preseason. Is the other part that
where people if Ronnie balled out, like who's the other
rookie at that?
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, and like if you ball there would be no question,
there would be none of that.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
There would be no hate, no dislike of it, no
sour pusses, sour faces. Because he's earned his way on sure,
he should get some playing time. Did you see them
ball out in the preseason? No? But Bronni until the
last game where he finally got some points. Right, he
scored seventeen point but other than that, he didn't look
that good. So people are looking at this as saying,

this feels like a photo op for lebron. This is
about Lebron, not about Bronny. It's about Lebron to have
a photo op, to be able to say, see, I
was the all all right, forget that I lost the
most NBA finals of any other.

Because forget about that.

I want you to know that I'm the all time
leading scorer because I played like thirty seasons. And I
want you to also know that my kid played even
though Michael Jordan owned the Charlotte Bob to whatever they
would call the Hornets bobcat right, and he could have
easily put his two sons on a team if he
wanted to own the team but never did that.

Like, that's a feather in his cap, and that's what
this feels like to me. I don't disagree. I think
this is a feather in his cat. I think this
is a scratch that the Lakers helped him itch and
it's the scratch. And I think this is something the
league is embracing. I think the league wanted to see this. Listen,
you've been covering this too long and not understand that
this is also entertainment. Sometimes I think we get to

where we actually they sell any more tickets tonight. No,
I'm asking it's a story being told. Robin not saying
the Lakers don't need to sell they it's the same. Okay,
that's like saying the Yankees don't need stars, or they're
the Yankees. No, you still need story, You need stars,
You need story, and he's not going to be playing.
You keep telling me.

Wait a minute, I'm asking you if you're telling me that,
but you're sitting here saying he's gonna play a couple
of games and then going down.

get down to brass tax and saying, all right, Bronnie,
we need you to go get better, and they're gonna
send them down to the G League, whether it be
tonight or in the next two or three games, he's
gonna go to the G League for a while and
he's gonna get better. And that Lebron and Bronni can
check that box, can say that we did that, we
were able to play together, be the first to ever
do that. What a cool moment. I don't see the

big issue. I can understand what you're saying, with maybe
some other folks are saying, I don't see the big
issue in this because I looked at the list of
the last twenty years of the number fifty five pick.
When I tell you will not know a single name
on there. It is ridiculous.

How many played Opening Night?

That's but my point is, my point is none of
them does. None of them deserve it. None of them
even really played outside of a year. So I mean
none of them. Like when you look at these names,
I mean, I know the NBA, I love the NBA
and watched I don't know hardly any of these names.
I don't even know. If they walked into me right now,
I wouldn't know. So my point is we got to
stop acting like them taking a gamble on a fifty
fifth pick, doing a favor for the guy Lebron and

doing something cool that the NBA has never seen happen,
and being a part of that for a game or two.
And then he's going to the G League. What's the
big deal? Like, I don't get it. I don't even
believe he's going to the G league. He's not about
to sit there and just be playing every game.

Here's the reason why I don't think so. And here's
the danger. If you send him to the league, you
send them to the G league and he doesn't play well,
or doesn't shoot well, or is getting cooked every night
down in the G League because these kids are trying
to make it and.

They're like there, yeah, they're ready.

Okay, they're ready go at him every single night, okay.
And and and he's not shooting well, he's the airball
and whatever, misson lea, whatever it is. That doesn't bode
well for him to get back into the league, to
even make it legit. Oh wait a minute, leb Brown's
shooting thirty two percent, thirty percent from the field in

the G League. How can you justify bringing him back
up later in the season. Lebron can make the case
he can learn better from me here, with the coaches,
with whatever, practice against the best of the best. I'm
telling you, I'm not buying that he's going to the
GI He's going to the G League because he's gonna
go down there. He's gonna play against these other young cats,
whether they be just now rookies or guys two three

years in the league competing and trying to get a
job in a spot. He's gonna go down there, He's
gonna develop, he's gonna get better. This is Lebron. He
has his own personal coaches. I'm sure if he doesn't
play well, then is that help. Well, No, it doesn't.

No, I think you're the only person who has these
high expectations for him at nineteen twenty years old, who
just came off car ack arrest last year. Nobody's expected
him to be a world beater. So if he's down
in the G League on and off for two years,

do it, then they're not going to be able to
witness this. So it's inevitable. We're seeing it tonight. But
I don't think it's gonna be anything more drastic than
a minute or two because of the regular season game
and the preseason when I played four minutes they got outscored.

you got the new little Timberwolves with Julius Randall no
longer Carl Anthony Towns. Anthony Edwards determined to really just
continue to elevate his game, and you got the Lakers
who didn't really make any big moves. They kind of
resigned some of the same guys. Uh, what do you
think of this Laker team? I think the league hasn't
(27:03):
been like fifteenth some of the polls and an NBA
as as a whole. Where do you think it is Lakers?
And what do you expect to see tonight with against
the Timberwolves.
Speaker 10 (27:12):
Yeah, well, picture I expeck with the Lakers is that
similar to last season they'll be. They'll have a chance
to make the playoffs either as the sixteed for the
playing four of it, but I think that's their ceiling.
They're not going to get past the first round. I
think that they could be better than last season only
because they have more continuity and gave Vinton Is healthy.
But their role players only have a certain level of
(27:35):
feeling that they can reach. And that's assuming that Lebron
James Anthony Davis are going to stay relatively healthy as
they were last season. That's not guaranteed, but I think
they'll at least be better than last season because of
what I mentioned. I think JJ Reddick, because of his
lock to the least make better in game adjustments and
relates to the players will neild net improvement. But the

Wild Wall West has gotten so much better it's.
Speaker 8 (27:58):
Not going to be.
Speaker 10 (28:00):
Enough for them to make a significant run. So as
I came to the Night, I give it to the Wolves,
even though it's still a work in progress for them
for try to mitigate Carthon Town's absence. Anthony Edwards is
a great star, and Julius Randall, even though he needs
some more time to figure out the Kings with Rudy Gobert,
it's not going to be the same effective pairing as

it was with Carthy Towns, but I think eventually it
will be. There'll be some more spacing challenges. I don't
think there'll be any personality clashes. So with that, I
see the Wolves being able to get to the second round,
but not anything beyond that. But it's only because there's
just so much Harry in the West and better teams
with Oklahoma City and Dallas.

No doubt on the Celtics have a minute to go
to beating the Knicks one thirty two to one oh nine.
They've made twenty nine to three pointers. In fact, they
missed their last ten like, think about that the Celtics,

Finals from.

The East rough everyone thinks that. I ask a few
gms and assistant coaches before the season started, and they
didn't say it's like the Golden State Warriors when Kevin
Durant was there, but they felt like, yeah, the Boston
Selish are the favorite unless there's a major injury of
paying their core guys. They're running it back. And while
you know injuries can't happen to anyone, it's unlikely it's
going to happen to the Celtics because Jason Tatum, Jalen

Brown and the rest of their core with Derek White
and Drew Holliday, they're all in their prime and they're
all pretty durable. Obviously, Chris tops Porzingis has an injury
history and that's not guaranteed, but he's a third fourth
option that his health and effectiveness isn't going to fundamentally
change their titles.

Test Hey, Mark, real quick, we want to get one more.
Give me a team or a player that you're keeping
your eye on for that you think is going to
make a rise this season. This is their season. A
team to make some noise or a player to make

I think he's gonna win MVP. I think the Thunder
going to get to the NBA Finals. And we've seen
Shaye continue to grow ever since weren't going the Clippers
traded him to the Thunder and made that Paul Georgia
trade look more and more regrettable. But this is his

moment where he can lead the Thunder to a deep
playoff push because of just how complete of a team
that they have, and he knows how to play an
elite level on all sides of the wall.
