Speaker 2 (00:19):
You're listening to the Best of the Odd Couple with
Chris Bruce and Ron Parker.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Let's start here with Jackson. Is that game of the
year so far?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
I mean, just unbelievable. And I know a lot of
people are gonna get their panties in a bunch if
you say, Lamar Jackson is better than Patrick Mahomes because
of because it's because of the resume, and it's not
a it's we're not talking about legacy quite yet. A
(00:54):
legacy or even like, uh, you know lifetime of Chain
been award, Okay, that's not what we're talking about.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Who's the best player?
Speaker 4 (01:05):
I think it's so obvious and for all those people
who have really been down on him for a long time,
even like uh remember Bill Bill Pollion, who's a Hall
of Fame executive or whatever, And I'm not people get
stuff everybody gets one.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
But if you.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Remember him saying this guy should go try try out
as a wide receiver, like like, seriously, that's missing the boat.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
You hit me with it. That sounds racist.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Hit me with it, Bill Pollion, that was sounding you
know what I mean, like just go be that athlete,
like you can't be a quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
And and and you couldn't have been more wrong about him.
And then of.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Course, well of course he can run. Well we got
that about it. In the pocket, dude, he's annihilating. Have
you seen his last four games? Fourteen touchdowns, no picks?
You should just look at the number that's from all
over the place, running the ball right, running with the ball,
the plays he makes, uh, passing out of the pocket,
(02:09):
the perfect fourth quarter yesterday Joe Burrow has four touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Or whatever or do you have a three or four
for four? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Four two yeah, And it didn't matter like like they
were looking like what like like they were down twenty
twenty one to seven, Calvin, they were down, down and
out and Lamar is just he is that guy. I
don't know, he is must sy TV. How do you
turn away from him?
Speaker 1 (02:38):
We don't seem to have a lot of Musty TV
this year like we've had historically the NFL with you,
the games are you know, we had some good games
and some teams are really I think, really good whole
teams like Detroiting think is a really good team. Uh,
Kansas City is a good team. They're just not explosive
and not the most exciting, right, they're not the most entertaining,
(02:59):
like the historically word. The Eagles aren't exciting as they
used to be when Jalen was running and passing. So
it's like we're missing cayleb Williams, the special number one pick.
He's had up and down season, so we don't really
have a lot of excitement. So therefore, Lamar Jackson is
by far the most exciting thing in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
And I don't mean just quarterback.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
I'm talking anybody, kicker, quarterback, running back, pick aback. Lamar
Jackson is that and it's not even close. And when
you look at what he's doing these numbers, he's absolutely
the best player in the NFL and it's really not close.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Look at these numbers.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
The man has almost we'll call it almost twenty seven
hundred yards, twenty four touchdowns, two interceptions, and a quarterback
rating of one twenty three and we're only in ten
games in for him, he had twenty four touchdown passes
the entire season last year. He has twenty four through
ten games already twenty. This is what we're trying to
(03:59):
talk about, the numbers.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
And he was almost unanimous last year in MVP, and
he's his numbers are ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
It's I mean, you look at the last you mentioned,
listen to these games and remind reminds yourself. Nobody else
is doing anything close to this, except for maybe Joe
Burrow's been on the road. Uh, Jared Goff's had a
good numbers as far as it's like the actual percentages,
but not yards or anything like that. So when you
talk about Lamar Jackson putting up three forty eight three
three eighty one, two eighty nine, two eighty two ninety,
(04:29):
it's incredible what he's doing. And oh, by the way,
when everyone said, oh, he's just not accurate, he just
can't make the right play, and you know he is
doing that time after time, at the time coming back
and when it's not just he's leading, you know, he's
playing from ahead, he's coming back, he's playing from ahead.
All of that, he's He's also playing for a defense
that's letting him down.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
There's been games.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Where he's like, hey, hey, I'm we're doing our job
the defensive side.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Could you guard Jamar Chase? Please?
Speaker 1 (04:58):
You think he might be somebody you want to go
arguably the one, two three best receiver and all the football.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Can I give you his second? This is in the
second half alone.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Lamar on third down seven for seven, one hundred and
thirty three passing yards, nineteen passing yards per attempt, nineteen
three passing touchdowns, no interceptions, are perfect one point fifty
eight point three passer rating in Jackson's fourth game this season.
(05:27):
This is it was his fourth game with three touchdowns,
a passer rating of over one thirty five plus Mayfield, Golf,
Allen and Cousins each down.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Wait a minute, have each have done it twice? I
should say?
Speaker 4 (05:44):
And the rest of the NFL combined has only done
it five times? Okay, And the last thing is this
was Jackson's sixth straight game with a passer rating of
one hundred plus uh plus two to seventy five as
far as passing yards, and the only other player to
do that Peyton Manning seventh straight and twenty twelve to
(06:05):
twenty thirteen, Aaron Rodgers seventh straight twenty eleven and again
Manning sixth straight and twenty twelve. These are all this
is telling you where you two guys we just mentioned
aren't running quarterback. Those are passing quarterback.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
And that is so, which means we're not even mentioning
the other you know, four five hundred yards.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
It's like it's just those are passing guys, Aaron Rodgers
and Peyton Manning and two of the greats.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Right, So, yeah, he's at another level.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
I'm gonna drop one more thing here on what I've
been witnessing and especially the last two years. You know
how Lebron James during his I mean obviously you could
he's still playing, which is ridiculous. But you know, you
had the Kobe Lebron debate, Kobe Lebron debate, and if
you said, like, Lebron is the better player because he
has more of the tool bell, right, he can do more,
(06:51):
you say he's the better player. But other people will
say no, Kobe, and their point would be because who
would you want taking the last shot? And everybody will say, oh,
that's Kobe. That's kind of where Lamar's gonna have to get.
He's gonna have to get to that part where people
will say, yeah, he's putting up the numbers. He can
run better, he's more dynamic. But who would I want
with the ball in the last drive here? Patrick Mahomes
(07:11):
is gonna be interesting to see this season because I
have a feeling they're gonna have to run into each
other again. Can he finally outduel him, because that's the
last little thing, that's the one chick in the armor
is they're gonna say, yeah, but with the last drive,
can he get it done against that team or can
he You know, I sew Patrick saw.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
It in Week one. I mean he threw a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
That was right there and you can look and go,
wal we didn't count, but but he made the play.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
He made the play. And he is better than Patrick
Mahomes right now, not saying oh this season, and really
I don't even think it's a he's better than Patrick mahomee.
He's playing the position better, he's more accurate, he has
more yards, he has more touchdowns, he runs better. He's
the best player in all of football for the last
couple of seasons.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
And Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Imagine, imagine if he had Patrick Mahomes' defense, where he
would be.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
I'm scary, no.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Right, because he's winning in spite of the defense. Defense
is twenty seventh that the Ravens have always had twenty seven.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Ray lewis rolling around his grave and Reid's rolling around
his grave right now. They're not dead. I know, okay,
I know fully aware. Don't interrupt the good joke. Okay
with some antics over there, Okay, I got you. I'm
just like, what is going on? This is not this
is not how you associate the Ravens with this kind
of defense, and they were just letting. I mean, Joe
Burrow was getting busy last night. I know he's looking like,
(08:34):
how did I lose his game?
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Amazing.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
You let me write to the conversation of Mahomes and
the Chiefs are the New America's team, and there's some
data that back set up historically. We know the last
you know, the modern era, it's been or even longer
than that, but it's been the Dallas Cowboys from how
well they played in the seventies, it became America's team,
(09:07):
Rob Jeef, we got the data basically talking about how
all of a sudden, for TV ratings and these networks,
the darling has been specifically with CBS, the darling has
been the Chiefs and how they have finally beat even
Fox last season in their latter games because they were
airing these Chief games. And they said that basically, we
know it's obviously people love them, but also people hate
(09:29):
watching them, and that's expected when any of the Warriors
became that. You know, maybe if you want to go
to Spurs the Patriots for sure. But it reminded me
what you just said right there, Rob, I don't think
we're ever gonna get America's team anymore in a sense
of like where they're majority loved, because I just think
we're naturally I have to hate everything, I have to
(09:51):
dislike things. Everything is antagonistic right now, even politically, it's
on a whole other level.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Right now.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
It used to be, Hey, I can disagree with your
politics or your candidate. We can still be civil. Let's
go have a beer. Let's go have some food. Still
shake hands. Now everything is volatile. I have to hate everything.
Social media. You can go on and just leave a
comment and say, man, hey, happy beautiful Friday. It's already
Saturday in Japan. You're like, all I'm trying to say
was have a wonderful Friday. So I just think I
don't know if we're ever gonna get a quote unquote
(10:19):
America's team again, because I just feel like it's not
nothing is like a bow. It used to be where
they lionize teams, they lionize athletes. Now if you try
to lionize, there's an immediate response where somebody's going to
try to bring them down. Try to do the gotcha
try to and there's no fact checking. To your point,
(10:39):
we're starting to blurred lines between journalism social media blogs
is all start.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
None of those people are journalists.
Speaker 5 (10:46):
No.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
I know, well, I know that you know that the
average person don't think so highly of them, Rod Parker.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
They're just going online. You know how men dms.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
I get from people that say, yo, you saw this,
and they can be political, social commentary, it could be sports,
and I go, you know, because I'm trying to say I.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Mean, what's the source, all right, where'd this come from?
What's the day? Is its real? And then I go, yo,
here's the real deal.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Orr.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Yo, that's not even a real website, that's not whoa.
Oh my bad, my bad. Can you do some research,
just take anything. But I'm gonna say, ain't nobody got
time for research.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
I'm gonna disagree with you.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
When it comes to America's team, there's only one America's team,
and it ain't the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
It's to Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
It was twenty five years ago, it's still the Dallas Cowboys.
And it's because Dallas has a two way effect on people.
There are a lot of Dallas Cowboy fans, we know that,
but a lot of people also tune in because they
want to see the Cowboys get their butt kicks. They
hate they hate watch, They hate Jerry Jones, they hate
(11:46):
Dak Prescott, they hate anybody who has a Cowboys uniform one.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
So that is where the appeal is.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
Nobody hates the Cheese, start to hate the Chiefs. They
don't hate the Chiese, not like That're almost There's even
the Patriots. There was more hate with the Patriots That's
why they don't even get their full d of what
they were able to do, which is two separate three
championship runs. Right, Like, they don't get their due because
(12:14):
people hated that team.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
They knew that they.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Cheated Bill Belichick, Tom Brady was sneaky, all the other
stuff that went on. You know, like there's a lot
of bad stuff. The Raiders got jobbed in that playoff game.
Rob g as a Raider fan, you'll never love like
like they got robbed. Brady lost the football and the
referees gave it right back to him.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Like that was it.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
That was the start of their first Super Bowl right there.
What would have happened if.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
The Raiders got thats exactly?
Speaker 3 (12:45):
I mean, I like, seriously, a lot could have happened.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
But I do believe the Cowboys are America's team. The
Chiefs might be getting the ratings because people like to
see winners. I get that, but they're not America's team.
There's not enough pushback or angst.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
We're getting there for the I think we're getting there.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
I don't know that there will ever be Like my
whole point was, I don't think we'll ever get to
like a new Dallas Cowboys if you will. I just
don't think, because I don't. I think they were lying
eyes for a huge portion of their run as the
America's team, right, just everyone loved them, and then they
became the villain a little bit like twenty years later.
I don't think there's enough of that now. I think
we're too scatter brain. I think we have too much
(13:26):
going on. But but it happens. You can become the
villain if you win too much. We saw the Patriots,
we saw the Warriors, like the most likable guy.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Nobody hates Patrick Mahomes. I just I just don't. It's
not just him. It's him, but it's his brother.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Remember his brother became Then it becomes my point, it
becomes him, but it becomes Patrick. It becomes the winning Patrick,
it becomes the win They win too much. Kelsey and
Taylor Swift. They can't say you're the most celebrity, you
hate the most now.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Because we got to see her million times, so I
would starts start.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
There's nobody they won't even admit or acknowledge that Patrick
Mahomes is struggling.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Like you can't even get analysts on television.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
They cannot even acknowledge that he's not playing well by
the way, it's unbelievable, and that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
I think they hate for the Cowboys, rob G. Tell
me your thoughts, Just tell me if you feel me
on this. I think the hate for the Cowboys' is
less about the actual Cowboys as much as us the
media who.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Talk about the Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
I think they hate that I got to hear about
the Cowboys all the time, less than they actually hate but.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Larry Jones and what he stands for.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
No, I think it's a vicious cycle, and part of
it feeds into why they're America's team because when they're good,
we talk about him.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
When they're bad, we talk about him.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
If and when this Chief dynasty folds up, people are
not going to be checking for the Chiefs like that anymore, No,
because years always going to be Cowboys and the Knicks
drive me crazy.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
They're little irrelevant, Like nobody the Knicks get big prime.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Anything since swim, rob G.
Speaker 6 (15:11):
Whe's the last time the Knicks won since the Louisiana purchase,
thank you, And it makes no sense they get big
games or they'll get these marquee like and obviously this
year they have high expectations, but up until the last
season or two, the Knicks have been either mid at best,
oh okay solid.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Yet the Knicks every year I got all these big games, chrismagain,
everybody's the next next Knicks man, the next ain't did nothing.
They remind me of the Cowboys. We always got to
talk about and play the greatest hits sou but.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
They they ain't.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
They don't deserve that. So I don't know. We'll see
if there's another American's team. You might be right that
it may be. I think that the Steelers had a shot. Maybe, Uh,
but I don't. I just don't think we'll ever be
able to get there again because I don't think the
love will be high enough, and I don't think they hate.
I think our tension span I just won't be there.
We just go from team to team, whoever'shigh. We don't
think we focus enough to hate them, and the media
(15:59):
has just we are all going to agree on the Cowboys,
like we've all kim like we have decided we won't
move on.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Well, that's just lazy. On the most part, it.
Speaker 2 (16:07):

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Bronnie James with the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Then he's going down to the South Bay to play
with the G League, the Lakers affiliates, and all of
a sudden, we have a conversation about he's going G League,
gonna stay for the home game with the Lakers, but
his first home game sells out and folks are buying
tickets at what price?
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Rob g earlier today?
Speaker 5 (16:42):
Tickets to sit at the lower level of a G
League game South Bay Lakers versus Salt Lake City seven
hundred and four dollars.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Now, as we started doing this show, I looked it up.
Speaker 5 (16:52):
The most current prices to sit on the lowest level
of the South Bay game. You can get two tickets
in Rowe for five seventy eight apiece. For comparison's sake,
if you want to go to tonight's Laker game to
see Lebron Anthony Davis take on Paul George and the
Philadelphia seventy six ers, you can sit center court in
(17:15):
the fifth row for five hundred and fifty five. It's
cheaper to see Lebron James senior than Lebron James.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
I can't believe anybody, and I don't get it in
their right mind would spend seven hundred dollars to see
Bronni play in some game against Utah, some team in.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
The G League. I just I don't. I don't. It
just doesn't make any sense. Really. Well, yeah, I legitimately
in one like, who is this because.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
They could have paid three dollars and shown their student
ID and got in at USC when he was there
and saw the five points a game beater.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
He might have gave him one. I think it was four, Okay,
four points. I absolutely don't understand this because he's It's
not as if he's just like, uh, let's say, for
whatever reasons, Winby was going to the G League. Maybe
they just wanted him to warm up there and maybe, Oh,
I get it, this is some spectacular.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
This is a wonder. I'm going to see Winby play.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
I'm going to see LaMelo Ball, who had this amazing
high school career, was a phenom, was a viral sensation.
I'm going to see LaMelo Ball in the G League.
I can understand that, right, he wasn't the greatest that
really that great in high school, he being Bronnie, then
he wasn't obviously through he had issues, hard was hard,
and then even when he was back, he wasn't great.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
In college.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Clearly hasn't been able to chance to get really played
in the league and he hasn't been great. What are
you going to see? And he's also been in the
public eye for a year?
Speaker 3 (18:41):
It makes it makes no.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
I just can't imagine anybody in their right mind.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Somebody's doing it. I don't know who.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
I think somebody might have bought the tickets and then
tried to sell them for that. I just can't believe
anybody rushed out to go buy tickets to see Bronni
in a What's what's the capacity for a G League game?
I mean like what, I couldn't even tell you what?
What what's the capacity for that? How much actually do
(19:10):
tickets cost?
Speaker 3 (19:10):
There? Nine dollars with a pizza? I mean like really, what? What?
Speaker 4 (19:14):
What in the world are you paying? Who in South
Bay is going to see these guys playing?
Speaker 3 (19:21):
What is it? Seven? That's the capacity the arena.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
They playing, the u c l A House Training Center.
It's seven hundred and fifty, seven hundred and fifty fans
It's ridiculous. It's like a high school gymnasium.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
I mean, I've been.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
It's it's the Lakers facility, practice facility. I thought they
could get like a fifteen hundred up in there only
opened one side, Okay, yeah, yeah yeah, I'm like they
could get only over one side. They weren't because there
they might have to Now they might have to open
both sides. Seriously, they might have to open a chain.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Rob g, you got seven hundred dollars, Really, you're better
off going up to Kevin will get this. Thenops got
building in downtown Detroit and throwing the seven hundred dollars
off the top of the building.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
I would literally have not heard the Pinalska what is.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
The most you would pay to go see Brownie? There's
the question or any how much would they pay me?
I'm not paying anything? Are you, rob you get free
baked chicken and ribs? No, No, they'll include parking. How
would you paying I'm not paying nothing. You would not
pay five dollars to go see Brownie? I'll jog to
siy Rob. I wouldn't use I wouldn't use my press
(20:24):
pass to go.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Wow, I'm just not serious, Robbie are you paying?
Speaker 3 (20:29):
How much are you paying to go? Ten bucks? I
pay ten dollars.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
You're paying because you're hoping like some other celebrities are there.
You're not paying to actually see Brian.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
I'm paying fifteen to see my nephew play Pee wee fo.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
But at least as you got some ties to it.
That's your family, that's your blood. You're happy, you're rooting
for him. You're making your brother or your sister happy,
your sister law, whoever you know, child, it is makes sense.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
You wouldn't pay ten dollars to watch Brownie play back?
All right? All right?
Speaker 1 (20:57):
So literally I know where that facility is. It's it's
I could walk there from the Spectrum building. That's why
they put it there and fast there. So yes, it's fine.
I'll go pay ten dollars because I'm right there. I
can walk over there. Let me go see hoping Kim
k walk in, so I go, oh, that's what she
looked like in person.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Okay, that's what I'm paying.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
I'm paying ten dollars to say, oh, what did Denzel
doing here? Well, Denzel's at the Laker game. What am
I saying? I'm lying to myself. He's at the Laker game. Yeah,
I just at my biggest point is simply if it
were something where I knew there was a phenoma fast
facet with it. Like I said, LaMelo ball was something
to see. Right, he's shooting from half cord. He was
(21:35):
a thing. Wimby's a thing. Zion was a thing for
whatever reasons. I say he was coming off of the injury.
They wanted to put him in the G League or something.
All Right, that's a thing. At no point was Bronny
ever like a thing. So I just don't get the
allure like he doesn't have a thing like meaning, Let's say,
like LaMelo, I knew, man, he's about to shoot ten
twelve three tonight, maybe I'll see something I hadn't seen
(21:57):
in a while. Zion jumps out the gym. Brian, you
dodn't have a thing. You get what I'm saying. That
would be if he at least had something I know,
