Speaker 3 (01:51):
The Daily News in New York growing up in Rob,

Speaker 4 (01:56):
First of all, the best part about this is that
you had the foresight to keep pictures of yourself, Like
I don't even know where I would find you have
every pitter, you and stony right there.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
We got you in wd IV and Detroit. It is.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I will say this first, I have I have all
of this stuff, yes, like and what I did though,
is it'll eventually be put all on one thing.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
And then I discarded I don't I don't need pictures.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
I don't need to hold on that saying like one, yeah,
just one there'll be one wrap it all up, and
one like when you die or something else, retirement and retirement,
but it in.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
I don't know if I believe you know, I sit
next to you, right, I got videos? You know, you
do you know I'll be seeing what I'll be seeing
when I see it? Right, it's all good? No, I
know it is. But I have one of the people
to hear. But no, yeah, thirty nine years in the biz.
You could take a.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Look on social media, thirty nine.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
You know what it was that today was the day,
actual day that I started thirty nine years ago.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
You're about to make me call my people. Figure. I
know it was in May of five, but remember you
don't remember, really.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
No, I don't. I know it was early man. I
do know that I'm gonna find that out, you know,
let me step my game up. I'm gonna find it out.
Who you inspired me to figure out?
Speaker 3 (03:12):
My day? All right? What is your January tenth? My birthday?
Speaker 6 (03:16):
That's right?
Speaker 1 (03:16):
We're having food on Friday. Don't forget Elijah, you're coming
in on Friday. He is now coming on Friday. We
got full a celebration. We're celebrating Rob's birthday and my year.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
What do this mean?
Speaker 6 (03:28):
Fifteen years? Are you been here fifteen years a long time?
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Well?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
I wasn't full time the whole time, but.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
No, it doesn't matter. But you know your first time Friday,
that's impressed.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
It's not telling you. It's not for lack of effort
to leave. I'll tell you that right now. Tried a
couple of times.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Just make sure the bosses be listening. The saga.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
When was your first year in the business? Do you remember?
You had no idea? How many years?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Though? Can you put his mic on? Alex? Twenty five?
Maybe twenty five? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Okay, Elijah, is your twenty for me? This when I
first started in radio? Or you when you first started?
Ten plus years?
Speaker 3 (04:03):
And Alex? How long have you been here? I think
just as long as you know? Oh so so you
got here in twenty sixteen, Steve, do you know not
long I've been here here in the building? Yeah, not
in media total. Yeah, we're saying career in total. Well
this was your first job, so first media job? Really? Yeah?
I came in here and just took over, Steve. That
(04:28):
is awesome. Well, yeah, but you know what to put
a button on that?
Speaker 4 (04:31):
I think nine years? Sorry, nine years. Shout out to
all of you. A lot of people listen, a lot
of people, Elijah were just talking about YouTube. A lot
of people watch the show, and you yourself may be saying,
I want to be in the business. I want to
It's a tough business. It's very difficult, but you can
do it. Stay in the game, and you can have
a thirty nine Q year career, nine year career, fifteen year,
twenty five plus ten plus almost twenty for me. Come
(04:52):
this may so. Yeah, So it encourage the people who
want to do this, and.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Then you know what, trop when you do that, you
might get your jersey retired.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
You might just don't start eating your spaghetti over there.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
You already know I'm not even trying to hear. You
might just get the jersey retired. And I got meat
balls to go with it.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Yeah, well, I'm about to throw one of those at
shoot for booing what. Chicago was absolutely going to it enough.
For those of you who don't know Derek Rose, that
has been announced. They put out a video of him.
He was with all the higher up, the brass with
the Chicago Bulls, and they said, ha ha haa, we're
gonna honor you this day, blah blah blah. Oh and
by the way, we're gonna put your jersey up in
the rafters. Now, you are the literal only person that
(05:37):
I know, personally know that had an issue with this.
Also who didn't know this wasn't coming Outside of Michael Jordan.
There is no more popular I didn't say better. You
can Scottie Pippen. There's no more popular Chicago bull And
maybe you can even argue I don't know if Scotty
was better. We will never know because he didn't get
(05:57):
to have the duration of a career healthy. Then Dereck Rose,
he's from Chicago, He's beloved his number one.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Two players have tried to.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Come there and say, yo, I'll need the number one,
that's my number, and they got booed off the number
and they had to give the number back up.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
This was obvious. This was the right decision. He's an
MVP of the League, multiple time All Star, Rookie of
the Year all the NBA, and revived the Bulls for
a few years when they were been all they talked
about was remember the good old days of Michael Jordan.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Absolutely this was going to happen.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
He's one of the more beloved players in the NBA period,
not even just in Chicago the last twenty five years.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Rob, Come on now, you I.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Believe you are contextualized enough to understand that this is
different than just you know, some odd player who was.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Go to the Memphis Grizzlies, do grit and grind. What's
his name, Tony Allen? Okay, I can understand your Tony.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I get that.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Derek Rose.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
No, it's not that it's bigger than that.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Okay, you're putting it next to Michael Jordan won six championships?
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Is that that so? So sitting? So what is the
standard for the Chicago Bulls?
Speaker 1 (07:12):
And it's not anything to disparage You could like him,
He could be a part of the organization. You want
to do something you can't do, like you're gonna put
who are you putting up next to Michael Jordan?
Speaker 4 (07:24):
If you I can't put any like who who can
want to put Lebron next to Michael Jordan?
Speaker 1 (07:29):
The next Bulls player that wins you a championship deserves
to be up in the raptors like like you could.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
You can look at the Yankees. They retired a ton
of numbers. You you would be.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Hard pressed to not say that they're all justified because
they won championships. Nobody in Monument Park will have that
number retired. Didn't win a championship with the Yankees. You
get my that's their standard, that's their Paul O'Neill got
his number retired. He was on four championshi ship teams.
(08:01):
So you can't argue with that. You gotta be careful.
The Mets are about to retire David Wright's number. Tell
me what David Wright did for the Mets.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
He was good, but that that you know.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
And if you want to say, well, they retired Strawberry
and good and guess what the.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Nineteen eighty six Meets. Yeah, was the first World.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Series they won since nineteen sixty nine and they changed
that team.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Would you agree? Phenomena?
Speaker 1 (08:26):
They are phenomenon And that's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
It's gotta be that ill.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
This is not against Derek Rose, and he's a great
guy from Chicago.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
I understand it.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Be careful when you start picking people based off of
that and not on a standard. So let me ask
you what shoenigat a statue too, he's from Chicago.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
I would say no, but also don't think that's far
fetched because going back to what I said that you
should be for, I agree, I listen, I would actually
agree with you if we just sat here and listed
off in any sport, Baseball, NFL, I mean, like one
hundred people, we'd probably agree on like ninety four of
the one hundred ninety four percent we would agree on,
(09:14):
like Tony Allen, you I meant but that, But I'm
just saying even retiring his number as good as he was,
and I get all that, that's not your stand. The
only reason it's not your supports back I gave you
then when we talked about it, as I get, but
Memphis Grizzlies don't have a stand, but you need to.
Yankees are literally the most standard in all of American
sports out if you want to say the Celtics are there.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Yankees use triple numbers.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
I don't have any one numbers up to number one
oh five like they're gonna agree.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
But that's the point. Their standard is so ridiculous. Grassleys
are a the best team we had. You know who
that was, Elijah. It was the grit and grind Grizzlies
that so z Bo, Tony Allen, marcasol get y'all butts
up there in the rasters, because that might.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Be the best we have.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
John Morant, you up next, as long as you stay
John Morant, joh Wick and keep grabbing these guns.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
So my thing is with Dereck Rose.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
There are a handful of people in sports where we
have to contextualize. You know, another player, he was great,
but he got cut short, literally because he was killed.
Sean Taylor another person, he's got a statue. Everybody loves him, contextualized,
like you already saw the greatness. That was no longer
a question of greatness. It was how great could he be?
I'll give you another one. When Pat Roley retired Michael
(10:28):
Jorge's number.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
That was out of place. That was weird. That was
from a super competitive guy.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
That was weird, Like, really, he wasn't Jackie Robinson when
they were tied number forty two.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Everywhere Jackie Robinson changed the color.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
That's a whole yeah, right, I love him, Jie, but
that was a little weird. I think you know, you
ever asked somebody do something to you so nice that
you made you feel weird? Like that was a little weird, Like, hey,
I got you this, and then you're like that, thank you.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
I think, yeah, that was a little weird. But my
whole point is Derek Rose, of all people, you just
know his jersey was gonna be retired because literally he
won an envy. If he was just an All Star,
I could sider here and be like, yeah, I get it.
He won Rookie of the Year, he won an All Star,
he was all NBA like.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
The that's not to me, that's not that's not it's
the same thing. Was he top seven?
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Is he top seventy five? He's not even top seventy five.
I think we all would agree he was going to be.
Like clear as day, he was going to be.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
But you need when you're starting to and that's the
point when you start to give these people to retire
their numbers or put up with statues, if you're not
even in the lore of the league, you can't do it.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Though he's so here it is. I'll tell you this.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
If he was from uh, Chattanooga, Tennessee, what a he
his number?
Speaker 3 (11:51):
If he was from Chassably, no, no, yeah he will.
I think he plays a role. No he would. But
this is because he's from.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
What I'm saying is what he has in his favorite,
Rob is the unknown. Believe it or not, the unknown.
It is his favorite because we all go who's the
number one? Anytime you have a sports conversation, who's the
number one?
Speaker 6 (12:08):
Man?
Speaker 3 (12:08):
What could have been?
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Everyone says Dereck Rose because he was so young and
so great that you go, man, had he had another
eight to ten years, it would have been ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
So again off of projecting, but here's my last one.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
Rob.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
We didn't say he's going to the Hall of Fame.
I'd give you that.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
I would wonder if you think it should be if
but this is the jersey retired for But if the
bulls are saying he's on that plateau and the only
reason that you know his Cooper, they could still look
at him and go, this guy was a great player
and should be in there.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
One a Rookie of the Year one MVP Rob G
jump in.
Speaker 6 (12:42):
Yeah, this is just quickly for you, Rob, because even
though I agree with you, I'm gonna preface that there
are two other names and jerseys that have retired alongside
Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen. Jerry Sloan. You know what his
NBA accolades were as a player for the Bulls.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
That was ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (12:58):
Two time All Stars, four time All Defensive First Team.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
And I don't gonna tell you why. Let me tell
you this the Bulls though in their history. Okay, So
here's the next one, Bob Love, and that's a mistake.
Speaker 6 (13:10):
Three time All Star, two time All NBA says the team,
Bob Love. So as much as I agree with you
that the Derek growth threshold is way too low, his career,
as brief as it was in Chicago, is arguably better
than the other two guys they got up.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
But this is the thing, the standard because they did
what Memphis and that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
They did it until they got Jordan.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
But they did that, which they shouldn't have done because
that is not the standards.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
What I'm saying is, no, don't have the standard.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
Like everybody is in the Lakers, the Celtics, and two
or three other franchises. Right like, if you're if you're
the Dallas Mavericks, it's gonna be a cup is dark
soon to be Luca Rolando Blackman, Jason Kitton, but even
Jason Kent because specifically for that team is like, okay,
maybe the Nets more so then the But that's my point.
Everybody can't be the Lakers, Celtics and now.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
And the Bulls really ain't got nothing but Jordan, Like
he's the only stand I don't have this hit or
standard time with that, like the Lakers at Michael sixty
years of seven years Championship where the next guy who
delivers a championship from the Bulls should be put up there.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
But that statue territory. Why can't he just beat this?
Just a jersey? You just think, all right, does Derek
Rowaway Rodman might might be next to the Bulls.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
By the way, does Derek Rose deserve to have his
jersey retired in Chicago? Will continue that conversation next with
you eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven,
seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. It is
The Odd Couple on a Magic City Monday, Rob Parker
Kelvin Washington, right here on Fox Sports Radio, Stick and
(14:47):
Stay America.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
ihe Art Radio Whip.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
It is The Odd Couple Rob Parker Kelvin Washington on
The Magic City Monday. Man, what a run for Gloriala
twenty twenty four. Right, fellas you know about Gloialer. We
put you up on Glowal. Did you listen to and we
told you about our lad?
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, floor Rider, Goorella, Glorilla?
Speaker 3 (15:18):
What else? I stop there?
Speaker 6 (15:21):
You know I saw a flow Rider at a concert
more than eighty people there. No, it was one of
those like like the jingle ball version of whatever the
San Diego one was, and it was outdoors.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
It was the summer one.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
And when I tell you that, flow Rider with his
like three hits, put on a better show than everybody
else that was there at one point, because have you
ever seen flow Rider? He's like your uncle who's buffers had. Yeah,
he's like six feet tall, like two forty, like a jacket,
played college basketball. He's a big dude. He was sitting
on another big dude's shoulder. I'm running through the audience.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Okay, that I mean on the show. That's well, it
was great. Uh yeah, I.
Speaker 6 (16:01):
Mean Rob looks like you you can't imagine the thought
of one big black dude on top of another big
black dude.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Hold, I mean all right, but I thought to show
it in with me having to like give you heimlich
maneuver over here you may, and that's about all you're
getting is heimlick. If his mouth to mouth, then God
just wanted you. If it's mouth to mouth, it's gonna
be the next thing.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
It's gonna be.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Say good bye because your birthday's coming out to Rob.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
But if your birthday was like in July nine, happened,
if I was so.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
To say goodbye, if you mouth to mouth, if I
was choking, oh absolutely.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
All right, good But Alex just saved your life. Rob?
What am I scared of?
Speaker 6 (16:41):
Me?
Speaker 3 (16:41):
And Calvin? I'm comfortable. I'm giving you two heim licks.
You what's crazy?
Speaker 6 (16:45):
Ro'sa guy with three kids would be comfortable, So I am.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Let me tell you, I just explained trying to save
my life. I am extraordinarily comfortable and comfortable. What I
won't do either, I'll be like, dang, Rob, we had
a good run.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Men't like I'll be on the phone calling the paramedics
could have.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
I am great at that. Hey what's going on? Yeah
he's right here, he's about sixty sixty one. Yes, that's right,
about six foot two. I bet I have you. They
will tell me everything you know. Will do is I
put on the I would take my crest white strips,
I would put them on your lips right here. Put
the white strips, and then I would give your mouth
(17:20):
to mouth so our lips aren't really touching. First of all,
as slow as slow as you would be taken forever,
big time, I would die. I'd be sitting it like
you're like, wait, wait, wait, can you go get my backpack.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
And get the thick and man, that's im ain't right,
but I'm still riding it. Yeah, don't ever talk about
my lips again in your life. Okay, I don't want
to hear.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
I don't hear nothing about yo and lips and be
looking at me ever getting your life rubbed it in
their face.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Pick you understand me. Let me go meet my maker. Okay.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
At that point it is time for me to go
see Big Mama and them, and it's time to me
Moses waiting on me.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
It is that time.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
I don't want to hear nothing about your lips. My
looking at him, don't look me in my eye. You're
talking about my lips. He's not said, was I would
put a white strip. You ain't putting none on my lips.
A matter of fact, I'm turning this way the rest
of the show, Elijah. Let's get to the call seven seven.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
You don't worry, all right, Alex. You can just put
a little seam offs before though.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Cody, Cody, Cody, you're in the eye couple of Fox
was right?
Speaker 3 (18:30):
He tired? All right? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Oh yeah, what are talking about, Dereck Rose Jersey retired
or not? What you got Cody or not?
Speaker 7 (18:40):
No, he's very I understand what Ro'm saying. But he's
the absolute exception to the rule. This isn't Derek Coleman,
this isn't Ben Simmons. This is he. He's an embodiment
of what uh class it great? Everything that you really
want in sports. And I think, uh, the organization was
I see my uh you know, doing that for him
(19:03):
if if if he wanted to stay all he's not.
He didn't win a championship, that's fine, but he outside
of the onslaught of injuries there he could have. I
really think it was him. Uh, it would have been him, Curry,
Lebron Wade, he would have been part.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Of that group. So the Pistons. The pistons have not
all right, and that's a blast. I know where you're going.
That's last man. I'm not retired. Uh, Grant Hill's number.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
I thought you were going. I haven't put the statue
of ze yet, but I'm just saying Grant Hill's number.
Grant Hill was another guy who got hurt.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Grant Hills in the Hall of Fame right because of
his college career and whatnot.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
And he's a classy guy.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
But I'm telling you, the only reason Derek Rose is
getting it is because he's from Chicago things.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
But I would thank you.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
I would add, though, as great as Derek great, here
was he wasn't.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
An m v P.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
I was looking a year he was taught. He was right,
he wasn't an MVP. Derreck Rose wasn't n VP. Ain't
that right?
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Tim Chili Chim in Atlanta. You're on the YD couple
of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Chili, Tim.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Chilie? Tim? If I was choking, would you help me?
You can hear Tim and laughing. He was laughing.
Speaker 8 (20:14):
Yeah, I was laughing. But first of all, Rob, I'll
say this, if you're choking and someone gets your CPR,
you might want to check your credentials because CPR is
not for choking.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Okay, okay, that's why I got too high.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
That's at that point he's going to see James passed out.
I'm blue, you know what I mean. Now I'm just
sitting there.
Speaker 8 (20:32):
Yeah, well you know as a you know, I mean,
I'm not a medical doctor. I'm a pH d. But
I still would be kind of ethical. I wouldn't try
to do everything. I couldn't say thank you.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
That's all I'm starting. He don't sit here, Hen'll sit
next to you all day.
Speaker 8 (20:45):
You feel different, tim, Okay, But here's my thing with
Derrick Road. I don't think he deserves uh is jersey retired?
Because I feel like this, Now, if the Bulls say
they have a standard, right they say, okay, if a
player achieve this, if a parent achieve that, and you
(21:05):
say that's the standard we have, then state that because
again I mean, I'm just gonna use I know it's
one is college and one of his pros. But like
with North Carolina, like all the great players they had,
but they could only get their jersey retired if they
were first team All American like, so set the standard
if there's a standard. If the bulls say, well, if
he's the MVP, or he makes so many first teams,
(21:27):
this person Okay, thedn't let that be known. Just let
us know the standard for what it is, so we'll
know that.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
You well, Jerry Sloan, So the standard wasn't that high, Tim, No,
But after you put Michael Jordan, that changed everything.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
And you don't even have Horace Grant one, Tim, where's
Horse Grant?
Speaker 8 (21:49):
Yeah? And that's that's what I was gonna say. If
you don't have anybody from those runs of those six championships,
those guys should be up there before anybody else.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
To me, I don't think you guys. I don't think
you guys grasps.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
The magnitude of Derrick Rose, like what he means to
that town, that city, that team.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Just if he wasn't from Chicago, he wouldn't be getting this.
If if it was a fifth, we'd all be from Chicago.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
That shouldn't be the reason, not just because you're from somewhere.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
But that's why I said, contextualizing what you got for.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
So here's another one. All right, Rob, stop giving you
over here. So the wrong side of this, No, you
disagree on Derrick Rose. Yes, here's another Bulls player. Are
you coughing? We've all been through it the last few weeks, Alex,
he's coughing as well. Out of here a call.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
During his Bull's tenure.
Speaker 6 (22:37):
Three time All Star, one time All NBA, three time All.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Defensive Team Dennis Robin. No, is that the criteria? No championships? Okay,
just like Derek Rose?
Speaker 6 (22:52):
Does that guy get his jersey retire?
Speaker 3 (22:55):
He's a bull. He's a bull. So did he win
any championships? You said?
Speaker 5 (22:58):
No?
Speaker 7 (22:59):
No?
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Wait, say one time. I think I know who you're
about to say, Jo. I mean, if I can look
that one up.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
But three All Star, one All NBA or yeah, one
All NBA second Team, three All Defensive, Blue All dang, No,
who is it?
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Jimmy Butler?
Speaker 6 (23:14):
No, no, but I'm just just I'm just saying, like
you did two things?
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Is it two things? You didn't say?
Speaker 1 (23:20):
M v P.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
I think y'all are under selling the like this man
was the best player, like m v P. Like that's crazy.
And he was the youngest ever.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
And he got the award they gave they gave him
an award, So he got an award for that?
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Okay? All right, that doesn't mean that could you have that?
Speaker 1 (23:35):
You also you could go around, you could go around
the NBA and there everybody a m VP.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
DI did not have a jersey or jersey retiring, but
they are. I mean from like not, I believe he'd.
Speaker 6 (23:45):
Be the only m v P to not make the
Hall of Fame if he doesn't make the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
And he he might.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
He got to a title in college, so they might
that might you know, how to remember this is basketball,
they might he he was in, he was there, he
was an MVP.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Do you were the basketball Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
I'm just asked for this sake of this argument I
do ask me tomorrow might give you do you know
you know you don't hate it?
Speaker 3 (24:08):
No, y'all know I hate it. I'm hard on.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
I think it would be like whatever the sport like
if I go, uh, Barry well, obviously that's a whole
bad example. But no, no, no, what what Dion Sanders?
We all go, yes, Barry Sanders, Yes, Michael Jordan. Yet
like it should be obvious people, right, And I said
before that silver should that that should be his legacy
(24:31):
is to have Hall of complete Adam Silver. That should
be what you leave behind. And it doesn't mean that
you dismantle. But we have our own thing and this
we start like that and it should be just NBA player.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
I'm not mad, Steve the sacred What do you think
about that? What's tringding?
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio search FSR to listen live.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
All right, we're coming to you live for the tire
rack dot com studios. It is yea couple, Rob Parker
kelvin Washington on a Magic City Monday and Rob, this
is the day after not only Steve talked about it earlier.
I mean the biggest game possibly the entire NFL was
Sunday night games. Really the whole season when you had
the Lions and Vikings for the number one seed in
(25:23):
the NFC, both two teams who had incredible records and
only one it's fourteen and three and they're a fifth seed.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
That's just crazy. That could have been the lines, but
it's the Vikings. Again. We watched the game.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Some players left out there on the field for Sam Donald,
who has had a spectacular season, but this is why
he's Sam Donald. This is why he'll get paid a
lot of money, but not the best money, right because
this is who he is. You know, he's not Patrick Mahomes,
Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson. And so to me, he showed
overall throughout the season a lot of growth, but he's
(25:53):
still not one of them ones, as they say. But
to me, I go back to what I saw from
Aaron Glennon and the defense of scheme and Rob g
hit us with all these stats and when you see
sixty something percent that they went man coverage, which is
what most teams don't do against the Vikings because of
that offensive prowess of that team, they had the cohunaz
(26:15):
if you will, to man up and find ways to
go at that offense.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
So once they blew a couple of those red zone.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Opportunities, man, the defense was on and you know it
was a matter of time for the offense will get
going for the Lions. And I think that that game
was just an embodiment of really the whole season for them.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Things didn't go the way for the Lions. They didn't
start off great. They had ten points up until the
third quarter, but they kept fighting, they kept finding ways
to stay in the game, stay at it. They went
for a bunch of four downs, they got those, that's
what they do, and then the offense got going. Jamar
Gibbs is incredible, one hundred and seventy yards total for
him and the defense that exactly what they were supposed
to do, and that's what they even did against the
(26:53):
forty nine ers. Everybody's like all the defense was it
was until they started making plays. So it was just
a great way to the season. And I also appreciate
the way they played playing the forty nine ers, playing
all your guys, keeping things on a roll, keeping your
thing consistent, so that they went into that Viking game
as if it was a playoff game. And they seemed
ready even more so than the Vikings, even including Kevin O'Connell,
(27:15):
Like they just seem to have been outclass in all fastes,
even special teams, defense coaching. They just seem more prepared
and ready for that game. And having home field advantage
definitely helped them.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Okay, I gotta do you like that, because to you,
the Lions can't do any wrong. They were giving up
thirty two and a half points a game, but they've
been playing great.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
That was just fortunate.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
And the last four against and to pool poo, the
Vikings being in the red zone that often that early
in the game and the act like it didn't matter.
You wouldn't be sitting here if they scored on those
red zone plays. And I get it, they won the game.
So it's easy to do that, but you can't look
at it and think to yourself that the way the
(28:00):
Vikings were able to move the ball in Detroit and
have a chance to score in those times, they didn't
get it done. Their defense, I'm not so sure they
have enough defense.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Over the long haul to one. But who's a real question.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
No, just I'm saying in general because we saw brock
Perty who hadn't looked good all year, look pretty doing
good before he threw those late those interceptions.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
But I could argue their offense, they being the forty
nine ers, is better than just about most teams.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
In NFC, like not this year.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Their offense this year, no tell you the talent like
that doesn't surprise me that that's how all those guys
out there.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
They got a squad offensively.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
And when I look at these other teams and everyone
Buffalo did to the Lions in Detroit.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Yeah, and I saw the Detroit Lions still put a
forty on them. Okay, but but that's what I but I'm.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Talking about the stretch. I agree with you. There's there's
no denying they can't. Nobody deny that.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
But my whole thing has been they continuously been, but
don't break because they know as long as we keep
the game relatively close and we're around, our offense is about.
The offense is about to get going and we're about
to put up a bunch of points in your head
like that game was ten nine and it was thirty
one very quickly.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
So what where is the degree of for you with
the Lions? If they don't get to the NFC Championship game?
What would this season be to you give me away
to No, they just lost. They just lost.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
You know what I'm saying, Like, are you what it
was a what would this season be?
Speaker 3 (29:24):
They got there?
Speaker 5 (29:25):
No?
Speaker 4 (29:25):
They did not did not get Oh that would be disappointed.
I'm not gonna lie yet, because you usually want to
get back there. You're expecting them to what get when
they have all the components who get to the NFL,
what do you expect them to do? I have them
beating the Chiefs, okay, and I still that was you know,
preseason obviously, and I still and I still do because
I just feel like from all facets of a game,
(29:45):
they're going to be very tough to beat. Like me, again,
you might score twenty six to twenty eight points, can
you stop them?
Speaker 3 (29:51):
Now?
Speaker 4 (29:51):
They're going to have home field advantage. They might get
Hutchison back, they might get some more players back. They
got two weeks off, and if they advance to another round,
that means it's three weeks. They answer another one, that's
four weeks. You get two weeks with the super Bowl,
they might start getting more players back. To me in
his positioned for them to do. So that's how I feel,
all right where you got them going out for I
(30:14):
don't know.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
I don't know what the matchup is yet. Do I
know the matchup?
Speaker 1 (30:17):
No, we don't know, because I gotta wait to see
what the matchup is first before I can make them
the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
But you know who's in. I'm gonna take the Eagles
and anybody anybody that's a good I'm just not you know,
and I get it.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
You know, I worked in Detroit for twenty years everybody says, oh,
you just you just hate the It's not when the
Lions were bad.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
But what I don't know? Tell me next, I don't
know what what what did I see? I saw that
they run the ball well?
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Right? Did they not run the ball really well?
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Did they they should have ran one more week?
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Did they not rip off like ten wins or nine
like they played? Are absolutely formidable, That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
I'm not like I'm picking like the Carolina more so,
I'm saying, why what haven't what do you not like
about the line?
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Their defense?
Speaker 1 (31:08):
I don't think that they have enough to win a
Super Bowl the way that they have it set up.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Now, that's what whoever of the defense? Because I asked.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
The other part they got to stop the Lions to
Jared Golf could have five interceptions like we saw right, oh,
four extreme to me that man has through seventy something
percent he had the most eight. No, No, you're gonna
go to that one game and that by the way,
they won the game.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Yeah, but what did he throw five picks in the game?
And they won? And we talked about an amazing team
that and their.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Quarterback and have an off night and have a bad night,
just like Sam Donald did.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
You could have a bad night. That's all that's true,
realistic about it. See.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
The difference between me and let me hear it is
that you're a fan. I'm not a fan. No, you're
not a fan. Fan No, no, no, Rob g you
and you're fan. The best part about it is when
you're not a fan. You can't even get past that
you're not a fan. The Dodgers clearly gonna win. So
you're like, uh, give me. The difference between me and
you is you say we like you're on the team.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
Oh yeah, you still never heard me say that because
you've been a rider. I am a sports broadcast. That's
what I'm just saying.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Listen, you say we, I don't say you see.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
And when we are in New Orleans with me, I'm
be hanging with the Lions flairs getting it in.
Speaker 6 (32:25):
I'll be like your Rob Company image dub on radio
road trying to interview somebody who's like a Chiefs Hall
of Famer all Lions yeared out like.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Buddy prediction for the game this week. Please tell him
to leave his Lion stuff at home?
Speaker 4 (32:37):
Yeah want, no, no, no, no, it's coming. But I
won't wear it, then it's definitely coming, especially if the
Lions are there. Oh, that's what us. That's another conversation
for another How it is gonna be all right?

Last call.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Time on the odd cover.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
I take my glasses off of that. Yeah, last who we.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Got Ruffael and Cincinnati. You're the last man on the
odd couple. What's happening?
Speaker 5 (34:22):
All brothers? Brothers? He I just wanted to put a
little more season in on those Lions. I'll tell you man,
watching them yesterday, watching them all season, but yesterday, I
think I've just come to the conclusion that dude, coach Campbell,
he is the ultimate, the epitome of a leader of men.
All of his players, they're willing to follow him through fire,
(34:43):
of the side of a mountain. It don't matter because
when the game starts, if you're going to break the
lion's jaw. The Lions are like, well, we're gonna choke
you out and then we're going to crush your skull
and we're going to be the last men's standing. And
I think that the talent they have those guys, I mean,
I don't know if I do the last time I
(35:04):
seen a team playing from beginning to end with the
grind and as the game wears on they play harder
and with more physicality, and then they just beat you down,
beat you down, beat you down. So I got the.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Super Bowl last year, he said.
Speaker 5 (35:20):
This year, I mean, just just Rob Parker. I'm telling you,
I got a feeling that before they make it to
the super Bowl, you're going to have uh Knuckles is
going to be back, and you're gonna have Hutchinson back.
They're going to be back when the five year old
linebacker when he came back yesterday. You saw how he
(35:42):
interjected that. Man, I mean, he's flying around taking tackles
and everything. But no, Hutchinson is going to play because
they're going to make it to the super Bowl. They're
going to beat the Eagles. No one's going to be
able to withstand the pound in that deliance. Man they're
focused and that that coach Campbell Man, do you.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Know, Raphael Rough did you watch the last four games
and they'reiving up thirty two and a half on the defense?
Speaker 3 (36:05):
I mean, like, what what games are you watching?
Speaker 6 (36:08):
That's all good?
Speaker 5 (36:08):
No, no, no, no no.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
I'm just asking you.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
You could beat gung ho on the Lions, but can
you give me some facts like thirty two and a
half's going into the going into yesterday that didn't concern you.
Speaker 5 (36:20):
I'm just at all okay, not.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Raphael, appreciate the coming.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
We don't keep keep it out. Yeahll be cool.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
I know that. Yeah, I get the points.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
It wasn't great, but you keep saying that like they
didn't win most of those games.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
It doesn't matter. I'm just saying, to win a super Bowl,
you're not giving up thirty two and a half points. Okay,
they didn't win a super Bowl. That wasn't the win
super Bowl literally had a point where they no one
scored up until week like twelve.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
No quarterback threw multiple touchdowns on them. You know that, right,
like showing a half that's what it's games? And then
what do they give up yesterday?
Speaker 3 (36:54):
About points? That's why I need you to make some
more points. Okay, that's my point.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
They do.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
They don't have enough defense to win, so you give
them a credit. Keep no, no, no, no, no, I'm talking
about this about it.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Come on, I'm talking about the fact that you don't
you doing so many Now, I'm not talking about ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
You enough, don't.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
You've seen so many teams go to a super Bowl,
lose and not even make the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
The next year, the Lions go to the NFC.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
Cha many of them go, and then they continue.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
It's about winning. Stopt American Express. Give a little credit
American Express.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
One time,
