Rob Woodson, the Hall of Fame dB Fox Sports Radio
NFL Analysts, and you can we can't wait to chime
in with him, talk about Lamar the Ravens. He does
the radio game for them. He gives us great insight
on what's going on with Baltimore and other stuff in
the NFL as well. But it's always great to get
that insight. All right, let's stick with the NFL and
(01:32):
speak speaking of the Ravens. They beat put it on.
They don't let the score fool you. I mean a domination.
It was not close and Stillers lose again Mike Tomlin,
So he's lost what nine?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Now is it eight or nine? Playoff game? I thought
he lost, He's lost six.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
He's lost six in a row, hasn't won a playoff
game since twenty seventeen, and he is now have eight
one and done's as a head coach.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
One shy of the record. That's the record. You don't
want them? Who has that record? Does they say? Marty Schoenheimer?
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yeah, Marty, and Marty got run out of there eventually
at the Chargers, right because he he couldn't win. But
but Mike Tomlin, I'm sorry, Like I get Pittsburgh. They
have all family, family run business, you know what I mean.
So they get to this isn't corporate where they don't
(02:31):
know the people like, this is a family run business,
and you know that's totally different. Hey, Johnny, we had
Johnny worked here when he was in high school, and
he grew up and we.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Went to his wedding, and that's a family.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
In the corporate world, they don't know Johnny is a number.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
He get paid. We know he's on the math math
and somebody gotta go.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Somebody gotta go Johnny who you know, like he's making
too much money.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Get rid of them. That's how it works out.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Mike Tomlin is one of three quarter up three coaches
that they've had for like what fifty years or whatever
it is. Dude, if you can't get fired off of this,
there's no reason to let you go. And the Steelers,
I do not understand the thinking. I think the Steelers
(03:17):
organization is worse than the Jacksonville Jaguars organization.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
And I'm dead serious. I know, don't faint. It's taking
everything I had. Rob g keep me, hold me up, bro.
Just don't do no CPR or anything like that. Just
I'll be all right.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I'm gonna tell you why. You've got a lot of
explaining to do.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Because at least they're willing to swing for the fences
and try to change what is not working. That is
the difference between the Steelers and the Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Who are the Jaguars last two coaches? Peterson and uh
I reminded.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Oh, those not two big names. But today, no, no, no,
it ain't about the results. But did they try? Did
they just go, well, we got Urban Meyer, and you
know what, didn't work out. So now we're gonna go
to get no names and we're just gonna roll along
and put our tail between our leg No, Doug Peterson won.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
A Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
He beat Tom Brady and the Patriots, and they went
out and they got him. It didn't work out. But
the Steelers are still selling their fans crap, crapping a
bag and hoping that they accepted.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Because of all the.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Winning they've done in the past, the Steelers were relevant
when sports writers used typewriters.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Let's just be honest. Come on, Kelvin, the bus ain't
gonna let you do that.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
But you get my poor dude, they're living in the past.
Fred Flintstone is running the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
It's Stone age.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
We got the same coach because we believe in continuity.
No enough already with Mike Tomlin, for real, it makes
no sense.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Marvin Lewis was in Cincinnati. What happened to Marvin Lewis,
you know what, And they had a good team. They
went ohen seven under Marvin Lewis. They fired him. You
can't live off the pass. Yes, Mike Tomlin won a
super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Guess what. Doug Peterson won a super Bowl. He got fired.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Mike McCarthy won a super Bowl, he got fired. Sean
Payton won a super Bowl, he got fired. Stop it.
That doesn't give you a lifetime card. The Pittsburgh Steelers
are ridiculous. They're in the Stone Age and they got
a snap out of it. Let Mike Tomlin go. Let
(05:59):
the pitch bug. Steelers people go like Moses. Let my
people go.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
Now.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
It got to you've been wanting to take a mandments
recently over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
That's my people go.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
All right, you bring up VALI point to anybody who's
a Pittsford stealing fan or a football fan and watching
Mike Tomlin, and even there are some folks out there
calling them doc rivers. I understand it, and I can
understand your frustration. And I'm frustrated because what did I
say to y'all earlier this week? What did I say
to y'all? I told you this was his I said,
(06:36):
this was his last season of excuses. Remember, I said, okay,
what's the excuse gonna be? Well, man, they ain't had
a quarterback, they had Mitch Chubisky, they had old big men.
And I said, now you have a super Bowl winning
quarterback in Russell Wilson. You had a young one if
you wanted to roll with him in foreign To and
Justin Filds whichever.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
No, I'm saying, whichever one did you wanted to Joe?
Speaker 4 (06:58):
You chose rus So Wilson. That's fine. So I'm saying,
now you don't have excuse us your defense, t J.
Watt and the crew. You got running game Nazie Harris
who had five six games, one hundred yarn rushing your
hundred yards in a row. And I was actually like, hey,
this is the season to be like, why not us?
Speaker 6 (07:14):
Right?
Speaker 4 (07:14):
We have the quarterback who has playoff experience, super Bowl
winning experience, almost won two Super Bowls. To me, I
was screaming, what's going to be the excuse this year?
And neck and say what we ran up against Lamar Jackson?
What did you expect? I would then say, dude, y'all
lost five games in a row. Y'all went out bad,
(07:34):
and you went out against the teams that you would
have been facing in the postseason other a variety of
those teams. You lost to all the good teams. That's
what I have issues with. So I'm not going to
fire Mike Tomlin, but I am going to finally say, hey,
all great things must come to an end, and if
we don't get this thing right, I have no choice.
(07:55):
We had a great run, you have been a really
good coach, You've been a great culture, but we have
to progress this offense. They average seventeen points during his
losing streak. What in the two thousand and three Pittsburgh
Steelers seventeen points and it can't be either or we
can't average seventeen and also give up twenty eight like
(08:17):
they were not even even in these games. They were
getting smacked up by the good to great teams that
they face during this losing stretch. And so my issue
is they have to progress offensively. Mike Tomlin has to
change kind of who he's been in kind of the DNA,
not necessarily himself, but he has to bring in offensive
coordinators that are ready to maximize Russell Wilson or Justin
(08:38):
fields or wherever they get a trade. I don't know
what they're gonna do because they got, you know, these
two quarterbacks. You're gonna probably trade one of them or
let one go. But they got to step the offense up.
You can't be walking around here with seventeen points in
twenty twenty five against these great teams in the AFC. So,
Mike Tomlin, there's no more excuse. I told y'all this
is so this year.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
And now you're backing down. You want to give him
more much?
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Why My only issue is I do you know you've
heard me say this and you're gonna hear me say this.
I don't like firing if I don't have a better plan,
because to me, that's when you get these organizations that
just keep turning and keep turning.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
It keep turning, but.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
You don't know there could be somebody else. So I'm saying,
if you believe that, now here's what I mean. If
you believe yo, we got the culture because we're a Steeler.
We've had that pre him, during him. That's just we
have the culture. And if you looked at it and
said Ben Johnson is our guy, we obviously can't talk
to him to the Lion season is over.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
But Ben Johnson is our guy. Man.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
What will we do with Russell Wilson and George Pickens
and Nazi Harris if we had a creative guy like
Ben Johnson? What will we do if whoever we signed
the quarterback position, whatever we end up doing, if we
had an offensive genius who we believe Ben Johnson's to be,
then I'm not mad at that.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
And the equity starts to run extremely low.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Mike Tomlin has all the equity, and they have That's
just the way they run that franchise at a certain point.
Stuff you run low, right, you run its course. The equity,
the rapport, the good, goodwill, it's run its course. And
so I'm not I understand what you're saying. I'm not
I'm not gonna fire him right now because I'm starting
to look at it and say, did he maximize this year?
(10:10):
Was this team really not as good as we thought
they were? And he ended up this the twelve games
or whatever was good?
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Just this year. It's just the same thing, the numbers.
It's not just this year. We're not overreacting to one day.
I mean, he has Mike Tomlin Steelers have allowed at
least twenty eight points in six straight playoff games, the
longest such streak in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
They're supposed to be a defensive They've given.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Up thirty eight point three points and six straight playoff games, right,
the most of any team in a six game span
in NFL. These are all the history making record setting.
They have lost four straight playoff games by at least
eleven points, another longest search such streak in NFL history.
(10:57):
This is not oh, you know you shouldn't you would
that in seven and you really overjieved and it was
great that you made the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
No, this is a history.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
His resume, his his resume is soiled.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
For me, he is officially on the hot seat.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
No, he's done more. And I'm I'm fair, I'm not
even mad at you. I get it.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
For me, he's on the hot seat because at a
certain point.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Off of this, what can you get fired on? I
mean seriously, like what what what will it take.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Take a bad seat, like a horrible season would take
not getting I mean they got to the postseason, uh
with this scoring end of this season and you even
said it a few days ago, like you know what
the expectations were? We didn't expect them all of a
sudden going this run that they did. So they this
is not a run.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
It's about being competitive.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
And I agree, Okay, you can lose, you could play Baltimore,
but all right, they owned Lamar Jackson years for years.
Now all of a sudden, Lamar Jackson's running rep Now
he's got he's got them figured out.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
And this is my point, is being competitive.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
There could be a ball game where Lamar and Derek
Henry beat you at the end and you lose by
seven or three, and you can live with that. Man,
we played a great game. They're better than us. That's
notes weacked up. That's not what we saw. We saw domination.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
And my last critique of my issue with Mike Tomlin
is and I was telling this to Rob g this
is my issue. Everybody was gonna say, well, he hasn't
had quarterbacks, he hasn't had quarterbacks. Well A, he had
won in Russell Wilson this year. Now is Russell Wilson
twenty sixteen?
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Him?
Speaker 4 (12:32):
No, But Russell Wilson's still good enough, better than any
quarterback they've had.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Exactly.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Second, my issue with Mike Tomlin has been this, you
can scheme up something to beat a team for once,
meaning we have seen Trent Dilferd get to a super
Bowl and win it. Did I say, did you hear
me say Trent Dilferd. We've seen Brad Johnson get to
a super Bowl and win it. We've seen Joe Flatgo
win a postseason game and win it.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
We've seen h Who's your boy? Your favorite person? Rob g.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
We have seen Baker Mayfield get into the postseason and
win again.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Come Flicker Fi.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
My point is we've seen folks do more with lesser,
and now to me, there's officially no more excuse than
you're officially on the hot seat for me.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
allR got to the post. I get it. This is it.
I know the above five hundred never goes below. Fight.
That's it for me.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Speaker 2 (13:30):

you look at you as racist. You can't you can't
listen to an English rapper as racist. Who we got
talking about Mike Tomlin. Time to go you're keeping them
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox Who we got?
Speaker 1 (14:58):
All right, Devin in Minnesota. You're on the couple of
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Devin?
Speaker 7 (15:04):
Hey, thanks for taking my call guys to listen to
the show every night that I can. I appreciate you both.
I'm a big time Steeler fan, and uh, you know,
I want There was people calling for Tomlin's job earlier
than I was, and I gave him some grace when
he had a revolving doric quarterback with pick At Trubisky,
Rudolphs and that, you know, and the others, and I
was like, you know, just get that position right, things
(15:26):
will fall. And this year we had an experienced quarterback
come in, had a good run. We're looking good in
the division and control, and then the games that came
up that mattered against really good competition. There's so many
situations on you know, short down and distances they just
couldn't get a yard with three cracks at it.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
I get all that, but in the playoffs they've given
up thirty eight point three points and six straight playoff
game like that.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Defense.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Just yeah, it ain't just Russell Wilson on thirty eight
point three.
Speaker 7 (16:02):
No, and it's it's definitely not on all Russell Wilson. Right,
you think of the Steelers, you know, like, no matter
where they're playing, you know that it's gonna be a
gritty game. The Steel Curtain, that's all that legend is
built for a reason. Let's see, the defense should be
no matter what.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
They almost three hundred the Ravens had and fifty yards
in the first half.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
That don't even that's that doesn't.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Even make fifty They want to play for seven hundred kidding,
that doesn't make any sense man, And you're.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Gonna go, oh yeah, Russell will like like, I'm not
saying that Russ played great what but come on, dude, No, they.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Couldn't stop there.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
And that's why I said, look at the Trent Dilferds
where it was all right, we know our offense isn't great,
but the defense is this the ball the buck Tampa
Bay Buccaneers back in the day, Right, you got Brad Johnson, okay,
offense in but our defense. There have been teams that
can say, hey, this is how we can win you
some games with the Steelers. It was disappointing. We give
it up points. We can't score points. Who we got all?
Speaker 8 (16:56):
Right?
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Rams just scored?
Speaker 6 (16:58):
Right?
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Is yes? The point seven?
Speaker 1 (17:00):
The Rams on like a five yeard touchdown pass from Stafford.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
I don't know who. I think it was. Karen Williams Okay, Karen, Okay.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Gary and Seattle, you're on the eye couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
What's up? Gary?
Speaker 6 (17:11):
Actually it's anyway okay, Hibarious, Yeah, they got me wrong.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Rob been drinking? You know you got two kids. Now.
Speaker 6 (17:19):
There's just a couple of problems I have with all
the narratives going around. Okay, number one, Yeah, I think
his job.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
You know what you got?
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Your phone is so, Darius, call right back, man. I
don't know if you're on a landline. I don't know
if it was like on a on a rotary phone.
I don't know what was going on.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Mike and Augusta, you're on the EYD couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (17:37):
Mike?
Speaker 9 (17:38):
What's yes?
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Sir?
Speaker 6 (17:42):
I think that should keep because a couple of points Bill.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Championship Mike, Yeah, yeah, your phone?
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Your phone too, I don't know is try Andrew and
Baker's field you're on THEYD come on and oh line work.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Andrew Andrew, Yo, you got me? Yeah you do? You
sound good? But give it five seconds? Go ahead?
Speaker 8 (18:07):
All right. I'm with Kelvin that he should get at
least another year for this reason that they have a
history of keeping the same coach. But let me say this.
Here's what I think happened. They were running good with
Russell Wilson, and then I think Mike Tomlin got cocky.
So I got a I got a rap lyric for
(18:28):
you if you want old Christian rap song. Okay, Kelvin,
you said this pride comes before the fall? So how
would you like your crow?
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Well done?
Speaker 8 (18:38):
Medium or raw? Humble yourself?
Speaker 6 (18:40):
Good?
Speaker 8 (18:41):
Call the meek schell in Harritt And that's the end
of it.
Speaker 9 (18:46):
Hu.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Who was that lak Ray?
Speaker 8 (18:48):
I don't know deep space five or something.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
I don't know him, but okay, it was a bar.
It was a bar, all right. Appreciate Yeah he said
he got cocky.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Yeah, appreciate you said, call Jackson can the City couple?
Speaker 4 (19:02):
When he given it to me, give it to me
like I want a little bit of that next time
you say that?
Speaker 2 (19:07):
All good Jacks? What's up?
Speaker 9 (19:09):
Hey? Bro, you know, appreciate you taking my call first
of all, But secondly, let me just say this. I
understand what you're saying about the lack of defense. I
get that, But at the same time, I cannot sit
here and ignore the back. Who's who's who's signing quarterbacks,
who's picking talent, Because the bottom line is, if you
take a look at all the playoff teams, I'm taking
(19:32):
Russ last amongst all quarterback even saying no, but it's not.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Even that compared to what they've had in the past.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Nothing's changed defensively, they're getting blown out. Jacks, is too
easy to say I'm taking RUSS last.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Go look at Russ's.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Quarterback waiting for that game, and I get it. It was
after the game was over. I'm not trying to make
any excuse or say he played great, but the defense
thirty eight point three points.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Come on, this is not just this game. Here's my thing, Jacks.
I get you.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
On the the these new quarterbacks are leading and they
got their special I get that. My only thing is,
can we not scheme up something? You get what I mean?
All Right, We're going into this game against said quarterback,
whoever may be let's find out a game plan. You
look at how Aaron Ging schemed up a game plan
versus Sam Donald, who have been playing excellent MVP, tight candidate,
(20:25):
and all of a sudden, Aaron Glenn made Sam Donald
look like did he have Donald?
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Sam Donald have a bad day? Also missing open receivers?
Why you can't give eric Aaron They schemed up? Did
he not miss over?
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Okay, because he was seeing ghosts?
Speaker 4 (20:39):
Okay, I'm just I mean, are you the only person
who don't believe Sam Donald was seeing ghosts? I just
he did miss a couple for sure, that's like, but
there's more than two.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
So I get it.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
But sometimes people get carried away like they were in
the red zone.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
It's not like they weren't moving the.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
Ball four quarters to get back in the red zone
and do something.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
I'm I'm not saying I said they played better, but
I mean Sam Donald looked like Sam Donald.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
Aaron Glenn schemed up? Okay he did? And you know
it all right? We got Rod Woodson, who would you know.
I'm gonna ask Rod that too. He'll tell me what
he thinks about that.
Speaker 3 (21:14):

Speaker 4 (21:26):
It It's time now to talk to our man, the Man,
Rod Woodson, Hall of Fame dB, Fox Sports Radio NFL
analyst Rod Rod Woodson.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
What's up, Rod? What's happening?
Speaker 4 (21:39):
Manying to stay away from these fires out here in
La right?
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Right?
Speaker 6 (21:44):
Yeah? What I'm praying for you guys?
Speaker 9 (21:46):
Man.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
So I know, Rod, some of the pictures are like
they like a horror movie, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Yeah, no doubt, unfortunate, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Well, let's let's go here, Rod. You never wavered on Lamar.
I just want to go here. First, on the MVP.
You never gave it up saying that he couldn't win.
And when that narrative was going out and you saw
the All Pro vote, which is a precursor because the
last eleven quarterbacks who have been All Pro First Team
have won the MVP, it looks like Lamar is going
(22:19):
to win it again.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
How surprised are you?
Speaker 6 (22:21):
And he no? And he should. I mean, I'm not surprised.
Listen to you know, calling the games for the Ravens
and seeing the maturation of him playing the position from
you know, from Afar when he first started to being
up close in the last several years, he was a
really great athlete in the backfield and did a lot
(22:44):
of tremendous things throwing the football and running the football.
But now he is a true quarterback. I mean, he
makes his read, he calls his all the bowls. You
get the ball off to Dery Kenyon when you have to.
He throws the ball extremely well from the pocket. He's
been very should have been thrown the football down the field,
the deep ball, the intermediate ball really doesn't matter. And
(23:04):
when he feels like it, he'll get into the middle
of the field and he'll make the best athletes in
the world look silly and then stopping the diamond leave
change and they're still chasing him. So, I mean, he
absolutely deserves to be the MVP. He's had a great year.
He's put the team on a shoulder and now to
(23:25):
hopefully he can get that monkey off his back. Yes,
from the post he's in plays.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Well, then let me ask you this, even though you
played with the organization, you know, you played with the Steelers.
Imagine you're facing them, what the heck do you do
to stop Lamar that passing game? And they did this
Withou Flowers and Dereck Henry, who looks like he's still
at Alabama right now.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
I so good and fresh.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
So how would you go about it if I hired
you with my defensive coordinator?
Speaker 2 (23:51):
What the heck do we do? If I'm the Bills
trying to stop him? And then I think the.
Speaker 6 (23:56):
Biggest thing I would try to do is something that
the Steelers minute. Normally. They didn't do it this past week,
but normally the way they rushed him in the past
would be they rushed him like we used to rush
when Barry Sanders was in the backfield. We used to
take our head rushers, make sure you don't get past
Barry Sanders and give him those lanes. We used to
(24:17):
call a rush to quarterback a rush and put him
in a saucers and then you would do some level
rush where you take the one end, take him a
pottle higher the backside d he can come up two
steps and come underneath, and so you got to hopefully
it'll get forced out. I think that would be the
easiest thing to do when you play against Lamar, and
because if you bliz if you play man and blitzing
(24:40):
if he gets outside of you, if you're cooked, and
he could. His throws are being dynamic this year, and
for me, I think the biggest thing is not just
Lamar Garrick. Henry's right.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Anybody got time.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
For that box.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
If you don't put it in the box, they gassing you. Listen.
I know we talk about those two individuals, but the
off of the line has played.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
Yes, and the defense has gotten better.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
You remember when they were playing the Bengals giving up
nine touchdowns in two games, and they've turned it around.
Let's go here the Steelers. I want to talk about this.
I know you're a coach and you're not into saying
that Mike Tomlin should be fired or whatever, but this
is what I want to bring up.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
I mean, it's it, Rod. What are they got?
Speaker 1 (25:28):
The Steelers have given up an average of thirty eight
point three points per game and six straight playoff games,
the most by any team in the six game span
in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
You can talk about quarterback all this.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
They are bad the Steelers when it comes to the
postseason and haven't won a postseason game in eight years.
And I know this organization is about stability and having
three coaches over the last fifty some odd year, and
I get all that, but sometimes you got to look
at it.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Something is not right here with this organization.
Speaker 6 (25:59):
Yeah, I think Mike needs to take hard looks at
I know Mike's very loyal to his coaches, but I
need to think he needs to take a hard look
at his coaching staff and in the product they've been
putting on the field consistently. And I'm talking about when
it really matters, and when they when it really matters,
(26:20):
they just don't play great football. So I think that's
one thing. And I don't I hate saying to fire anybody,
but I do think they need to make some changes
to move in the right directions from here on out.
And then I just think they need the quarterback of
the future. That's what they really need to They need
that also on the offensive side of it, and they
(26:42):
can get those two things and I think I think
they'll be fine.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
He is Rob Woodson Hall of FA dB, Fox Sports Radio,
NFL analysts. I want to go to a game we're
watching right now with the Rams up seven to nothing,
moving the ball, looks like they're in the red zone
up against the Vikings. My question to you is, how
do you you know if you were a Sean McVay,
any of these coaches, Kevin O'Connell, like, knowing we're this
is that what we were planning for and in boom
(27:07):
midweek we have to switch. How do you lock in
and get the team refocused even though they've lost that
home field advantage.
Speaker 6 (27:14):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I was watching it the
first drive. I mean and looking at Cooper cup talk pregame.
Is they got something to play for, something that's bigger
than them, and sometimes that's that can give you a
lot of motivation. Uh. You know, it's about the city
of Los Angeles. It's not just about the Rams themselves.
(27:38):
You're playing for the whole city now, And I think
with that being said, I think it's easy to refocus.
And also you know what the owner did for the
Airs and the Cardinals and what he did and give
them them the planes and allowing them to come over
there to the facility. Uh, they allow you know, some
families to come over with some pets also, so you know,
(27:58):
trying to make it as comfortable as pop for the
players and administrators and people who are are on the staff. Well,
I think they've done a lot of great things. But
I think honestly they can focus in because yes, it's
a part of their game. They can't make it. They
can't say, hey, we were displaced and we couldn't play
good football and our heads weren't in the game. I
(28:20):
think he gave them a reason to really focus in,
to play for a bigger purpose than this. The Rams.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Hey, hey, rob let's go here. Jordan Love, we get it.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Last year blew out the Cowboys, you know the end
of the year. Last year had like eighteen touchdowns one pick.
The Packers signed them to a lot of money and
all that, and I get it. Quarterback in the future,
like the Steelers, they're going to have three quarterbacks for
thirty five years, right or whatever, forty years, which is incredible.
But Jordan Loves turns the ball over a lot. Three interceptions.
(28:52):
I mean, there's a you got, there's a lot to like.
But he also turns the ball over a lot. And
how do you fit that because you can't throw three
interceptions in a playoff game.
Speaker 6 (29:03):
I mean that that is you know, that's the part
of the coaching staff have to just make sure that
he's being wised for football. He's not putting the football
in harm's way and if he feels you know, because
you'll see some quarterbacks throw a receiver open, right, and
you see some quarterbacks wait to see the receiver get
open then throw it. And you've got to figure out
(29:24):
what he is because sometimes he throws a great ball
and he does throw a receiver open. Sometimes he throws
it too late and he gets a pick right. So
you know, for me, I think the coaching staff really
have to do a better job with him with just
talking him, talking his way through what defenses look like.
When they rotate over here, it's this, when they do this,
(29:45):
it's over here. They've got to do this and give
him a better opportunity to make sure that he takes
care of the football and say, at the end of
the day, throw it away.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
At the end of the day. I like that. There,
you got us a nice little run, you know.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
So, I mean it's not illegal. It's not illegal in
the National Football League to pump the ball.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
Yeah, hey, real quick for us.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Roan got to be remiss if we didn't talk about
the Washington Commander is getting a big one against the Buccaneers.
Jay Danuel and the rookie rookies usually has struggled in
the postseason.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
What'd you see it from him?
Speaker 6 (30:17):
I'll tell you what man to do this. Talking to
some of their coaches when the Ravens played him earlier
this year, they said, the guy, the kid is just
above and beyond his years. He speaks, doesn't speak like
he's a rookie, he doesn't live like he's you know,
his age in the early twenties. That he's an old
(30:38):
soul that's playing football today as a rookie quarterback in
the National Football League. But the biggest thing I think
they loved, the reason he's loved and be loved, not
just with the owners and whatnot, but all the team,
the whole team, the whole staff, is that he's a
great human being and he's a tremendous football player. And
(30:59):
you just got to hope upside. I mean, if he
just keeps exciting, if he keeps, you know, just going up,
he is gonna be one of the best quarterbacks for
quite a long time in the National Footballers.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
They also are also very very lucky.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
And if I'm the Lions, I'm afraid that team seems
to get every single break.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
They were about four or five games this year.
Speaker 6 (31:19):
Rod.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
They had no business winning that Bears game, you know
what I mean, Like like Baker Mayfield with the fumble there,
that game was about to be the kick itself.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
That was that was true, that it was true. Now
my thing was this got a rabbit foot in his No,
I know, I.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Just I'm just saying that.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
I'm not I'm not mad at him, but my goodness, gracious,
the dooint gets them to the next round.
Speaker 6 (31:43):
Right, That's right, all right, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Bring both a whole rabbit. I can't wait for this
Bill's last.
Speaker 9 (31:53):
Rod.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
Thank You're gonna enjoy that one, Rod, hopefully, Uh for
you Ravens.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Get it done.
Speaker 6 (31:58):
Yeah, I hope it's not too cold.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Wait, Mane you're going to Buffalo in January, Rob, what
are you thinking? Get you some chicken wings and bring
you a Parker the way?
Speaker 4 (32:08):
I yes, you better talk to the people. See they
can get you man a heated blanket the summer. Right, Ron,
thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Hey.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
On the way, Uh, we were just talking about Jordan Love.
I think I'm starting to see a little bit of
something else that I don't like. Tell you what that
is Rob Parker Kevin Washington. They couple of Fox Sports Radio.

We were talking about Jordan Love a little bit with
Rod Woodson here and he has been a bit complicated
this year. You look at the stats, you got twenty
(33:19):
five touchdowns, eleven interceptions, thirty three hundred yards. Obviously he
missed again, you know, some games, but little left something
to be desired from when we were expecting this to
be a really big season from him. Ended up being
a solid season. Good at times, but you want it more.
And what I like about him is he doesn't mind
(33:42):
taking risk. He doesn't mind it. Sometimes you got to
let that thing go. Sometimes you got to try to
make a big play. But on the other hand, you know,
you gotta know when to do it, when you're gonna
cost us a game and the down in distance and
when it matters in the game. You gotta have a
feel for now. I can't do that right now. And
the thing I said early in the season and was
to me, he's got to find the hybrid of being
Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers since he's the new sheriff
(34:05):
in town.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
If you will, I'll tell you this, it's gotta be
tough for Packers fans to watch because they had a
quarterback who didn't do that right now.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
What I mean, like like Aaron Rodgers throwing that four interceptions? Yeah, yea.
So now they're watching and going.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
But here's the thing though, here's why I think they're
still optimism for them is you know is that you're fine, No,
I get it, that's the that's the difference.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
They're not used to that.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
For the last eight nine years, Aaron Rodgers was the
poster child the opposite of that. But why I also
think they always see their prior to the issues with
Brett Favre preak Brett Favre being MVP winning three in
a row, Brett fav in the nineties.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
With the leader quarterbacks of interceptions.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Yeah, he was winning them games and always winning division
and going to Super Bowls winning one lose one. But
we knew he would call them from time to time,
being the gambler, being the share taking.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
X one one super Bowl and thank god for uh
rocket Ishmael because they wouldn't have won that.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
He was the m v P.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
You mean, Desmond Howard does my boy? I'm sorry, I
don't do my boy like that. I taket my boy
only the only the only reason. Yeah he, I mean
a special teamer got it right and uh so. But
my point is Brett Farr that was what made him great.
He would go for it. He would take that big
through the big arm. He was a gun slinger.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
But also the games that he los exactly. So that's
why I want the hybrid.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
His last couple of games, if I remember correctly, like
his last game with the Vikings and the.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Championship game, didn he throw across There is a viral
audio which people had it where the Vikings broadcasters like,
why would you even ponder passing? Yeah, this is the
Super Bowl. You could take a knee and kick a
thirty seven.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
Yard field goal And he's all bitched off and Brett
Farr is like dead on the ground because he up
because that was the bounty get game. Yeah, he was
all beat up and yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so you
know they was beating him down by the way. But
that's my point. Jordan Love was supposed to be the hybrid.
Aaron Rodgers wouldn't take risks. He was kind of calculated,
you know, he talked about it. He would become too
perfection is he talked about on his documentary. He'd become
(36:14):
a little too He wouldn't let it go. He got
caught up in kind of being perfect and all of that.
He's admitted that Brett favre for MVPs. Yes, but he's
I'm telling you what the old man said, and you
saw that he would sometimes you gotta say, man, you know,
big moment, I gotta let it go.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
And Brett farves too much.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
Jordan Love hopefully is the middle of taking care of
the ball, but sometimes you gotta let it go and
make a play happen. And I was kind of hoping
that he would be this for them. Uh, and he
may be, but right now this season he had too
many moments where he missed too many throws or he
threw a pass.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
You go, huh, what was.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
That he had?
Speaker 2 (36:47):
He has a lot of turnovers.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Yeah, and they come in waves, like they'll they'll be
because he stretch weight in throw.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
That's what I'm saying. They're coming waves and you'll be like,
oh when they come in. Last year was eighteen touchdowns
and one pick. Yep.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
That was the close out the year, and they blew
out Cowboys and everybody was like, oh, you arrived.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
They gave them all this loot. And this year was disappointing.
I don't I don't.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
I know they made the playoffs. I know they won
a lot of games when he was hurt, and.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
He had a stretch of one, two, three, four, five
sixty seven eight games with no uh no interceptions and
they still wund up with how many for the season
twelve eleven yep. So again I think you're happy. And
he missed three games, and I know, right, he might
think about fifteen sixteen, right, it might be fifteen. So
he's got to write that ship. But we've seen guys
come into the league and struggle with that. Peyton Manning
(37:34):
threw up all the interceptions his first year too, Troy
Troy Aikman threw up all the interceptions his first season two.
So we've seen guys write the ship. But I tell
you what, Man, the Packers do do a good job
of finding a quarterback for didn't fit twelve years. I
don't know how they pulled they.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
They could wind up having a quarterback for right thirty
five years.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
That's crazy. I mean they could pull that off with
finding him. So, uh, he'll write the ship all right.
On the way, we have somebody who's supposed to be
a star quarterback.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
It is time to call him to the floor. Fox
Sorts Radio
