the kind of news of the day? I guess it
was ESPN, correct, That is correct? Now, I would I
don't know if it's news of the day as much
as it could be news of the NFL off seas. Yeah,
I'm just saying, like it came out today. ESPN did

a poll, right and talked to some executives.

Right, ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano.

From the New York Days, you know, everybody.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Spoke with half a dozen NFL execs and cap experts
around the league to get their thoughts on the upcoming
free agent market, what guys might get, what they won't get,
so on and so forth. Michah Parsons, Jamar Chase, Sam Donald,
the list goes on and on. But one name that
stood out especially for this show was Brock Purty Perdy.
(08:27):
And according to these execs, they're expecting Rock Perty to
re sign in San Francisco. But here's the headline. They
also expect that the contract will be using Daniel Jones's
type of framework and built out from there. You recalled
two years ago, Daniel Jones got a four year, one
(08:48):
hundred and sixty million dollar deal eighty one million guarantee,
made of the ninth highest paid quarterback in the league
at the time. Well, when you adjust for inflation, the
CAP's going up, the salaries are going up. They're projected
Rock Perdy this offseason will get four years, one ninety
six with one hundred and twelve million guaranteed, which would
make him the tenth highest paid quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Your thoughts makes sense to me a couple of reasons. One,
I think you look at rock Perdy and to his disadvantage,
Rob's brought this up. They're gonna hold over his head
when you were the last pick. I mean you know
you were the last pick, so you hold that into
where he came from. Also, I think you look at
the worst of him, which so far has been this year,
(09:33):
this past season for him, and then you look at
the best of him. You look at last year Pro Bowler,
he was number four in MVP votes, He's been to
the Super Bowl, he's been an NFC championship. So you
take the best of him, you take this year if
there was the worst, and you find a median and
to me, that's where you land. And that makes about
since you know, if he's nineteenth and I can name
(09:54):
not that it goes by obviously how good guys are,
because Dak Prescott is not. You know, the money he
makes doesn't have him better than other people. But it
makes sense about the where brock perty is and what
he is as far as elevating the team. He's not
gonna elevate them too much. He needs the guys there,
but he can still be a studying force. He knows
the system, he knows the team. He's are. I have
no worry about any issues off the field. So that
(10:15):
money makes sense. I think that that makes both parties happy,
he and the team, and it totally makes sense of
where you want to go with him. So to me,
that's about right about a fair amount of money. You
weren't gonna break the bank. He wasn't gonna be sixty
plus millions pass back. And last point, you somebody gonna say, well,
Daniel Jones was the ninth highest paid, and then somebody's
(10:36):
gonna say, well, Deshaun Watson got two wrongs. Don't make
it right. I don't. Just because they may overpay Daniel Jones,
who ain't even on the team anymore, and just because
they did something in the NFL had never done with
guaranteed money like that for quarterback with Shaun Watson, doesn't
mean I have to John Lynch in the forty nine ers.
So before somebody even says that this makes about perfect
sense to me, I get the I think they look
(10:59):
at him a certain.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Way because of uh, where he was drafted, where it
was drafted. But I don't believe that that is uh
that that sticks to you if you really perform and
people get to see and really believe in you. And
and I'll give you Kurt Warner was undrafted, like everybody
talks about him being mister irrelevant.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
When Kurt Warner came.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
On to the scene for the Saint Louis rams ain't
nobody cared about where he was drafted.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Am I right? The greatest show on turf?
Speaker 3 (11:30):
But I mean he was spectacular and nobody cared about, Oh, well,
you can't give this guy money or you can't did
what he was spectacular And what has happened is rock
purty for a lot of reasons, not only just the
draft place, but where the forty nine ers were, that
they had already gone to a Super Bowl, that they
(11:51):
already had all these resents, all that stuff. You look
at and go, well, well, it wasn't like we hadn't
made the playoffs in eight years and this guy showed
up and we can look at it and go wow,
oh look at what this guy did, because that wasn't
the case. And I think that the reason is when
you it's always about what have you done for me lately?
(12:13):
And coming off last year, he looks more mortal, he
looks like we saw more holes in his game that
if he doesn't have all the pieces and everything's not
just right, he's not nearly as effective as he was
when everybody was there for him. And that's what scares
people into making that kind of investment. And that's why
(12:35):
I believe that he should be about the tenth or
twelfth highest paid quarterback, not in the top five or
anything like.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
That, not close, even though normally if I told you
NFC Chamions or NFC Chamions Super.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Bowl, no, yeah, he's just trying to get you sixty,
right like normally.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
And that's why, Yeah, we agree that this is fair
money to me. And I would have went as low
as if he was the eighth. I mean, if he
was or high, I guess you could look at it
that way. If he was the seventh eighth, that would
have been fine with me too, just based off of
the resume, more so than even the individual talent. I
could see his agent say, look, man, all the kid
is known is NFC Championship and c Championship Super Bowls,
you know, and then obviously this season you could say no, no, no,
(13:14):
that was an anomaly. Guys are banged up, Guys are
in and out of the lineup. He'll be better next year.
But this fits. This feels right to me. I don't.
I don't. I think he's happy, very happy, and I
think the team is very happy, and I think this
will be good for them, and it keeps the money
down just enough they can still go out there and
sign some other guys. I got to see if he's
gonna accept it.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
I think if you're if you're his agent, you gotta
be like, dude, this might be like, let's not kid
yourself like it's it's nice to be team friendly. But
if they I just don't think there's any like anyone
else will give him more like no, but I don't
have that many windows open in your career, and as
(13:55):
you don't get top dollars what you deserve, you may
look back on it and go, man, what was that?
What the other side of it is he mess around
and go six and eleven next year ain't gonna work.
So it's that gamble of do you take it now
or do you betting yourself and say I'm a ball
out and we're gonna be you know.

He could just go to lerteen and three, that contract
can go.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
I've done way more but the post season very then,
Dak and John Right, I've gotten all these almost Why
I was close to the MVP voting.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Yep, you can make a cake be like yo, and
I'm still worse sixty? Why am I not? Why am
I not worth? That's why I brought it up, Dak Prescott,
h No, I get a say, you know where Daniel
Jones whe people can say, Look, I hear you. I
get what you're saying, but I don't want to duplicate
the mistake they may make. That doesn't make sense for
us in our organization.

I mean, I'm with you that that seems abounce fair
right now, he could split hairs. Maybe he's a little
closer to eighth or ninth. However, with the way contracts
go up, like, let's be honest, a couple more quarterbacks
are going to sign, you know, probably this offseason and
the next off season, a couple more signed these huge deals,

and suddenly his tenth that he signs today is going
to be twentieth right in a year or two. So
I guess I could understand him wanting to hold off
a little bit or ask for more, And I could
see other teams being willing to give him more because
the way the market just keeps exploding, in two years,
that's going to look like a discount, even if right

now he's getting paid.

I don't know, Jared, I don't know if I know, Jared,
I don't know if other teams will be overly interested.
There may be one or two, and there's always going
to be one or two and that's all it takes.

That's That's kind of like like Patrick Mahomes when he
signed his deal and then all of a sudden, you
know what I mean, his deal is, but I know.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
He can keep signing special. What I mean, I mean
his deal when he signed it was bad. What I
mean is Patrick Mahomes is special, and so his deal
is always going to look like, Man, you could have
got more than that, you know what I mean. It's
like Lebron and his prime or would be his probably
like sweet could have got more than that. Brock. We
still don't know. We think he's good to maybe even
really good. But there's a chance, like I said, tomorrow,

our next season he goes six and eleven, and that
would be back to back seasons of not looking great.
Where now they can go, oh man, you know, we
shouldn't paid him that much. So I think it's a
fair deal to get it now for him. And here's
the part I was just looking it up right now
you can get the next caller. I'll just tell you

my point. He got another one in him if he's

No, because he was missing a lot of talent. Now,
the only thing I will say is the n if
the NFC quarterback class is a lot better than it
was when he when he had that crazy year. So
where is he stack up now? Because now he's definitely
bo below Jaydon Daniels. I personally think Baker A Fields
a better quarterback than he is. I would say him

and I'd say Dak and Brock are probably about the same.
But I think that they had a lot of injuries.
But also you got to keep in mind he definitely
saved the forty nine ers. Jim possibly his job. Oh yeah,
because they drafted Trade, they drafted tray Land.

Yeah, no, they moved up for they bet on it.
It is no doubt about that. He saved some jobs.
Donald Lech and the whole crew. Yeah, without a doubt
because that was a swing and a miss real quick.
He said he's playing like thirty five forty, so thirty

a huge cut on you know, he he gave this

they're just I think they're just trying to figure it

try to nurture a second round pick was probably further
away than most fifty fifth overall picks were.

if he's not willing to move off of that, he's

they're expanding the playoff field with the playing tournament. You

It does seem at least with the All Star Game,

think keeps the specialty of it a little bit.

they're doing. I mean, I think this thing is so
broken it should be scrapped. I have no interest.

teams this that you got to win score eighteen points,
you gotta have four to three points, Like, seriously, is this.

just have like a fun game when guys play hard
for forty eight minutes and then go and enjoy the
rest of the season.

I liked it at you a ending, but I think
the reason why we can't have an over ult games
because we can't get a competitive game, right, And if
you're not going to get a competitive game, then you
got to start figuring out ways to fiddle with it
and try to make it more fun or try to
juice up the competitiveness somehow, and so like, if the
core problem is there, you're just trying to figure out
ways to do it. I mean, I wouldn't be averse
with the NBA just move away from the off our

game and try to figure out other situations and to
replace it. Right, you're basically talking about a two and
a half hour, three hour marketing block for the NBA.
Maybe there's different ways to do it now since the
league's in a different place, both to like in terms
of fans, in terms of people how consume it, watch it,
how frequent they players, and they were you know fifty

sixty years ago when the offer game began, or not
even that seventy years ago. You know, like this all
started had its origins in a much different era medior
era and consumption ara all that.

But I still think that it's viable if people could
watch just a decent game. Nobody's asking for people to
get heard or overdo it when they play in the summer.

Okay, And when they play in the summer, you see,
you can't tell me.

You can't tell me that they don't compete in those
games and just play basketball like this whole notion that
they can't play hard or whatever because somebody's going to
get heard or whatever. It's nonsense to me. When they
play in the summer, they played harder than they than
they do this.

I mean, you don't have to convince me. You have
to convince the players to do that.

I just I don't understand it. I really don't. It's
a shame. And I think that has something to do
with leadership. Was it a couple of years ago? Was

teams and in the standings right now, and I look
at the Rockets and they were, if you will, the

they get email Udoko and now they got I'm and
Thompson and some other players, Jalen Green coming around. How
the heck are they such a good if not dag
near very good the great team at thirty two and
fifteen playing some great basketball chagoons and All Star Where
did this come from?

I mean, it all came together kind of quick, right,
Like they got a coach who really changed the culture there.
Emadoka has worked wonders and some of their young guys
finally are hitting this year, right, Like, you know, it's
been really cool to see kind of the Tarry Eathan
i'm In Thompson combination. Like the way they play defense

is awesome. It's you know, they're I think they're one
of the most fun defensive teams in the league. Alpha
and Shan Gun is really like this creative offensive hub
for them, and uh, Jalen Green seems to be coming
on just a little bit. And so it's been a
nice mix of guys and like a nice mix of
different styles of players too. That's been a good combination

for them. And you're right, they were downtrodden for a
while after that Harden trade and they finally figured it out.
And it helps when you get to take a bunch
of picks in the top three or four of a
draft and you really get to take a lot of flyers.
I'm big in talent, and then they finally hit yep.

And according to these execs, they're expecting Rock Perty to
re sign in San Francisco. But here's the headline. They
also expect that the contract will be using Daniel Jones's
type of framework and built out from there. You recalled
two years ago, Daniel Jones got a four year, one
(08:48):
hundred and sixty million dollar deal eighty one million guarantee,
made of the ninth highest paid quarterback in the league
at the time. Well, when you adjust for inflation, the
CAP's going up, the salaries are going up. They're projected
Rock Perdy this offseason will get four years, one ninety
six with one hundred and twelve million guaranteed, which would
make him the tenth highest paid quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Your thoughts makes sense to me a couple of reasons. One,
I think you look at rock Perdy and to his disadvantage,
Rob's brought this up. They're gonna hold over his head
when you were the last pick. I mean you know
you were the last pick, so you hold that into
where he came from. Also, I think you look at
the worst of him, which so far has been this year,
(09:33):
this past season for him, and then you look at
the best of him. You look at last year Pro Bowler,
he was number four in MVP votes, He's been to
the Super Bowl, he's been an NFC championship. So you
take the best of him, you take this year if
there was the worst, and you find a median and
to me, that's where you land. And that makes about
since you know, if he's nineteenth and I can name
(09:54):
not that it goes by obviously how good guys are,
because Dak Prescott is not. You know, the money he
makes doesn't have him better than other people. But it
makes sense about the where brock perty is and what
he is as far as elevating the team. He's not
gonna elevate them too much. He needs the guys there,
but he can still be a studying force. He knows
the system, he knows the team. He's are. I have
no worry about any issues off the field. So that
(10:15):
money makes sense. I think that that makes both parties happy,
he and the team, and it totally makes sense of
where you want to go with him. So to me,
that's about right about a fair amount of money. You
weren't gonna break the bank. He wasn't gonna be sixty
plus millions pass back. And last point, you somebody gonna say, well,
Daniel Jones was the ninth highest paid, and then somebody's
(10:36):
gonna say, well, Deshaun Watson got two wrongs. Don't make
it right. I don't. Just because they may overpay Daniel Jones,
who ain't even on the team anymore, and just because
they did something in the NFL had never done with
guaranteed money like that for quarterback with Shaun Watson, doesn't
mean I have to John Lynch in the forty nine ers.
So before somebody even says that this makes about perfect
sense to me, I get the I think they look

at him a certain.

Way because of uh, where he was drafted, where it
was drafted. But I don't believe that that is uh
that that sticks to you if you really perform and
people get to see and really believe in you. And
and I'll give you Kurt Warner was undrafted, like everybody
talks about him being mister irrelevant.

When Kurt Warner came.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
On to the scene for the Saint Louis rams ain't
nobody cared about where he was drafted.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Am I right? The greatest show on turf?
Speaker 3 (11:30):
But I mean he was spectacular and nobody cared about, Oh, well,
you can't give this guy money or you can't did
what he was spectacular And what has happened is rock
purty for a lot of reasons, not only just the
draft place, but where the forty nine ers were, that
they had already gone to a Super Bowl, that they
(11:51):
already had all these resents, all that stuff. You look
at and go, well, well, it wasn't like we hadn't
made the playoffs in eight years and this guy showed
up and we can look at it and go wow,
oh look at what this guy did, because that wasn't
the case. And I think that the reason is when
you it's always about what have you done for me lately?
(12:13):
And coming off last year, he looks more mortal, he
looks like we saw more holes in his game that
if he doesn't have all the pieces and everything's not
just right, he's not nearly as effective as he was
when everybody was there for him. And that's what scares
people into making that kind of investment. And that's why
(12:35):
I believe that he should be about the tenth or
twelfth highest paid quarterback, not in the top five or
anything like.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
That, not close, even though normally if I told you
NFC Chamions or NFC Chamions Super.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Bowl, no, yeah, he's just trying to get you sixty,
right like normally.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
And that's why, Yeah, we agree that this is fair
money to me. And I would have went as low
as if he was the eighth. I mean, if he
was or high, I guess you could look at it
that way. If he was the seventh eighth, that would
have been fine with me too, just based off of
the resume, more so than even the individual talent. I
could see his agent say, look, man, all the kid
is known is NFC Championship and c Championship Super Bowls,
you know, and then obviously this season you could say no, no, no,
(13:14):
that was an anomaly. Guys are banged up, Guys are
in and out of the lineup. He'll be better next year.
But this fits. This feels right to me. I don't.
I don't. I think he's happy, very happy, and I
think the team is very happy, and I think this
will be good for them, and it keeps the money
down just enough they can still go out there and
sign some other guys. I got to see if he's
gonna accept it.

I think if you're if you're his agent, you gotta
be like, dude, this might be like, let's not kid
yourself like it's it's nice to be team friendly. But
if they I just don't think there's any like anyone
else will give him more like no, but I don't
have that many windows open in your career, and as

you don't get top dollars what you deserve, you may
look back on it and go, man, what was that?
What the other side of it is he mess around
and go six and eleven next year ain't gonna work.
So it's that gamble of do you take it now
or do you betting yourself and say I'm a ball
out and we're gonna be you know.

He could just go to lerteen and three, that contract
can go.

I've done way more but the post season very then,
Dak and John Right, I've gotten all these almost Why
I was close to the MVP voting.

h No, I get a say, you know where Daniel
Jones whe people can say, Look, I hear you. I

the next off season, a couple more signed these huge deals,

and suddenly his tenth that he signs today is going
to be twentieth right in a year or two. So
I guess I could understand him wanting to hold off
a little bit or ask for more, And I could
see other teams being willing to give him more because
the way the market just keeps exploding, in two years,
that's going to look like a discount, even if right

now he's getting paid.

I don't know, Jared, I don't know if I know, Jared,
I don't know if other teams will be overly interested.
There may be one or two, and there's always going
to be one or two and that's all it takes.

that would follow him in the organization. And so now
they're just I think they're just trying to figure it

to make Brownie happy, We'll bron happy, and you know,
try to nurture a second round pick was probably further
away than most fifty fifth overall picks were.

I mean, he'd like to go somewhere. We know the

see a Memphis showing interest. I could see Golden State
potentially showing interest right like, that would be an interesting

landing spot for him. The question is does he want
to do that? Does he want to only be on
a phoenix or bust type of outcome for him, and
if he's not willing to move off of that, he's
already shown that he's willing to go go to Ward
to get what he wants. Would that be also something

would you know, even if there isn't a promise of

a of another contract this summer, or if he opts
in and it expands after that. Like, so that's the
big question. I think that's hard to answer, just because
this has become so chaotic and so toxic in Miami

but just get your thoughts on Devin Booker, who has
been an All Star, has been in the Olympics before,
but say, hey, sign the NBA goes to fifteen players
on a roster regular roster as fifteen, Why can't the
All Star Game? There's a bunch of snubs and there
were some snubs and rifles snubs every year exactly. But

your thoughts on expanding the roster good idea, bad idea?

I feel like the who the whole point is to
make it kind of something special, right, like something for
select a few twelve players per conference. Already this year
it's going to be a little bit different because you've
got fifteen starters instead of the usual ten. Because now

I kind of like the fact that it's it's you know,

they're expanding the playoff field with the playing tournament. You
got an NBA Cups, you got something else to win.
It does seem at least with the All Star Game,
like you know, it's keeping it at twenty four. I
think keeps the specialty of it a little bit.

Yeah, the All Star Game, I'm really the format what
they're doing. I mean, I think this thing is so
broken it should be scrapped. I have no interest.

Every time they tell me what's going to happen in
uh San Francisco, I get a headache. I mean, for
teams this that you got to win score eighteen points,
you gotta have four to three points, Like, seriously, is this.

What is happening here with the NBA? Why can't we
just have like a fun game when guys play hard
for forty eight minutes and then go and enjoy the
rest of the season.

Well, what are we doing?

I liked it at you a ending, but I think
the reason why we can't have an over ult games
because we can't get a competitive game, right, And if
you're not going to get a competitive game, then you
got to start figuring out ways to fiddle with it
and try to make it more fun or try to
juice up the competitiveness somehow, and so like, if the
core problem is there, you're just trying to figure out
ways to do it. I mean, I wouldn't be averse
with the NBA just move away from the off our

game and try to figure out other situations and to
replace it. Right, you're basically talking about a two and
a half hour, three hour marketing block for the NBA.
Maybe there's different ways to do it now since the
league's in a different place, both to like in terms
of fans, in terms of people how consume it, watch it,
how frequent they players, and they were you know fifty

sixty years ago when the offer game began, or not
even that seventy years ago. You know, like this all
started had its origins in a much different era medior
era and consumption ara all that.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
But I still think that it's viable if people could
watch just a decent game. Nobody's asking for people to
get heard or overdo it when they play in the summer.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Okay, And when they play in the summer, you see,
you can't tell me.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
You can't tell me that they don't compete in those
games and just play basketball like this whole notion that
they can't play hard or whatever because somebody's going to
get heard or whatever. It's nonsense to me. When they
play in the summer, they played harder than they than
they do this.

I mean, you don't have to convince me. You have
to convince the players to do that.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
I just I don't understand it. I really don't. It's
a shame. And I think that has something to do
with leadership. Was it a couple of years ago? Was
that last year when they sent in Doctor j and
Larry Bird?

It is how we talked to the rally up to
the players and the two hundred points each. Oh man, hey, Mike,
I want to ask you this, well one more before
we let you go. I'm looking at some of these
teams and in the standings right now, and I look
at the Rockets and they were, if you will, the

Washington Wizards of the West for a few years, and
they get email Udoko and now they got I'm and
Thompson and some other players, Jalen Green coming around. How
the heck are they such a good if not dag
near very good the great team at thirty two and
fifteen playing some great basketball chagoons and All Star Where
did this come from?

I mean, it all came together kind of quick, right,
Like they got a coach who really changed the culture there.
Emadoka has worked wonders and some of their young guys
finally are hitting this year, right, Like, you know, it's
been really cool to see kind of the Tarry Eathan
i'm In Thompson combination. Like the way they play defense

is awesome. It's you know, they're I think they're one
of the most fun defensive teams in the league. Alpha
and Shan Gun is really like this creative offensive hub
for them, and uh, Jalen Green seems to be coming
on just a little bit. And so it's been a
nice mix of guys and like a nice mix of
different styles of players too. That's been a good combination

for them. And you're right, they were downtrodden for a
while after that Harden trade and they finally figured it out.
And it helps when you get to take a bunch
of picks in the top three or four of a
draft and you really get to take a lot of flyers.
I'm big in talent, and then they finally hit yep.

they're getting ready to start everything. The doctors in there,
he's guys like people, just telling what happened. I got
a sect and I was that's why the way that's
built different. But anyways, so, as I said, I take

the anti anxiety and anti anxiety medication. You want to
relax as much as possible. And he's like, hey, if
you want to bring headphones, that's a good idea too.
So I tried streaming the Laker game on my phone,
but the feed wasn't good, so I just went to
Spotify and for whatever reason, historically the music that's always
calmed me down the most is either Frank Sinatra or

nineties R and B music. Okay, I went with nineties
R and B music, right, so it's no big deal.
I'm listening as like some Mariah Carey TLC. When I
tell you right as he's starting the incision boys to men,

do it. You know, the nurse in this case is
a male nurse. He's coming in, he's getting me all situated.

I already had to do it myself. It made that
very clear. They say, if you come in full beard,
you're leaving here. So I said, okay, okay, So I
was all cleaned up. But they have to tape things
down and make sure they're not in the way and
all that stuff. But while he's doing it, he's just
talking to me. He's talking to me about what's going
on and you know at this park down the street,
and what's going on with traffic, and what's going on
(36:54):
with the ice. The word like, do you want the
guy who's gonna talk to you while all this is
going on?

Or I just wanted to be quiet and doesn't want
to make it so that you're like the nervous And yeah,
I meana they talk whenever they do those things.
