a top three or four player in the NBA. He
just took your franchise to the NBA Finals eight months ago,

he's hurt. He hasn't been playing since Christmas. I get

gets on the court. And they said thanks, but no thanks.
And they did it in the cloak of night. That's
the other part right right, Like like supposedly, I think
Rob G told us this story that they wanted the second.

back east, one o'clock eastern on a Saturday night. Really,
what trade is announced at that time?

Fox So that's a bit. That's a nice trade. We
were saying that would be big enough trade to have, Ooh,

Luca and a d. That is absolutely crazy. And I
was all, we were all watching the Lakers Knicks game,
right it ends and maybe.

you know, that trade happens and you're like, oh, this

what you can depend on for fifteen twenty years. Like Dirk,

out of shape.

We saw Kevin Love remember how doe boy he was
when he came into the league. All of a sudden,
Kevin Love has been one of the more in shape
players in the entire NBA.

wanted Luke around two thirty.

Plus to sixty and so I'm saying, agree with you
that something is off of that organization or they believe
with him that he won't get to that championship caliber
and they're willing to punt on that. That would be

it after he lost in the NBA Finals to the
Spurs and oh seven, you know we're gonna have four
or five years of him punt on Lebron.

best player in the league can get traded, any of

us can. And this just shows me that he either
has spat in their face when it comes to commitment
to getting in shape or whatever their their regiment or
program is, he's just kind of poop pooed that, or
they just believe he's more broken down than we know
and been playing professional ball since he was like thirteen.

He won't have a thirty seven, eight nine forty year
old career like a Dirk and Lebron and Kobe. Maybe
he's got seven eight more years in him because he's,

He was out to dinner and bol And there's reasons
why it would make sense for the first time. Number One,
both he and a D are clutch guys. He and
a D are personal friends, not just like.

They've been through the battles.

That's his brother, and so you don't want to put
the first of all, I don't want to put Lebron

me at least talk to me about it. I'm your god.

This is the first time the Lakers have made a
move and so long that was beneficial to them and
them alone. It might ultimately be Lebron, meaning if he
and Luca mess around and do something this season or next.
But they actually did something great for them, not for
Kobe God blessed dead, not for Magic Johnson, not for Lebron.

the entire NBA at twenty five, who hopefully can be

Yeah, so that it makes sense that finally they said, man,
there is life post Lebron and who played great.

sign a deal, just become a free agent, and then
you will have to look at it and say that
was a calculated risk without knowing is a deal.

Though you know he's two, he's generationally good and when
you start to look at some of the numbers, you're
literally looking at Lebron. When Lebron about the last decade,

is in at Oj Mayo, that's the next Lebron. Andrew Wiggins,
the next Lebron, uh uh winby Will It's still to
be determined. But like they keep telling you, somebody's the

next Zion. That was the other thing I was looking for.
He's about to be. Lugu was the first person a
massive Lebron fan as I am went okay that right there,
because the way he manipulates the game, the way he
could take four of us, me and you, Alex rob
G to the finals, because he's just that good as
far as offensively, clearly defensively he is atrocious and they'll
have to try.

And that's something that the Mavericks made a point of

that the Mavericks are the number one seed that moved
up with this trade, which I just think is a
little premature.

they they they've been they've been killing it all year.
Now they can't play all of a sudden, you know,

be honest, Kyrie struggled in the finals. You remember, like
he didn't play that well and and and they didn't
have their second guy, and it was pretty easy.

For Boss Kyrie because of the esthetics, does get a
pass sometimes for the play well or or what is
deemed as a good game for him would be a
subpar for Luca, will be a subpar for prime Lebron,
subpar for Prime, d Way, prime, for Kobe, like he
can have twenty four and like man he was balling
the night where Luke had him what was wrong with him?

And near to me is the difference. Kyrie doesn't have
to be great every single night.

Here's a question for you, though, Will Lebron embrace this
and accept the idea of being second fiddle? Because because

came away with this, I really did, and I thought
about it, and and you know, we had talked for
a long time after Lebron started hopping around putting together
dream teams and the big threes and all that kind
of went on with the NBA for a while. I
think we have entered the franchise empowerment era, and I

think this was the first step. This is something we
had never seen where a team has a twenty five
year old international star, All Pro or first team NBA.

Let's say it do right way.

Took a team to the NBA Finals eight months ago
and they said, hey, guess what the price tag is?
Three hundred and fifty million dollars this summer. Thank you,
but no thank you, they basically.

And they did it in the cloak of night and
Nate and Nate and Nate.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Ditched him where Basically, you know, it's like that date
that you're with and you're like, hey, you know what,
just about the car for a minute, I need to
exactly and you and you're on your way and you
just leave her by the side. I know that's not mainly,
but you get my point. I've not done that, but

you get my point. That's what it felt like. This
wasn't hey, Luca, we just can't afford you. We want
to do the best that's for you. No, this was like, no,
we we don't believe we can win with you. And
and there are reasons why not that you want not
that you're not a great player, but there are other
things that we feel are an issue. And I really

believe that we're gonna enter this. This was the first
ownership group to step up and swing at a big
time player and say you know what, no thanks. And
I know fans around NBA America. They got to feel
like maybe this is the start of it. Maybe the

owners will take back the sport and step up to
these guys and say, no, we're paying you, You're gonna
honor your contrac and if you don't and don't do
the things we need you to do in the.

Process of trying to win, we'll move on without you.

And I know it's a cliche line, but Dallas can
really say we didn't win the NBA Championship with Luca
and we could not win it without them, Like it's
not like you won me three championships and you're the
reason why there's nowhere I can let you go. I
get that, but we didn't win. Yeah, and we can

move on. Now here's my big thing. There's a couple
other targets. And if I'm ownership, I'm looking at what
they just did in Dallas and in Philadelphia. Would embid
Joel embiid Man, You know what, this don't shape up,
things don't work out, We're gonna move on from Joel

embiid down here, right here in New Orleans with Zion Williamson.
Enough already, what a disaster this has been. You know
what can we package him and move on from this
contract and move on to somebody else making these guys available.
I'm dead serious. I think we might be seeing something

and a little bit which is totally different to Jimmy Butler,
but it is management ownership pushing back and not just
giving him all the time guys complain or say something
and right away, all right, we'll trade you.

We saw it even a little bit in Brooklyn when
Kevin Durant wanted to be traded. They said, no, we're
not giving you away. And we find a deal that

Are you teamed up? You know you James and Kyrie
to come here. You think I'm always just getting crazy
on this. So I don't think the NBA is ever
going to change. I think it still will be a
star driven league. I think the league embraces that.

I think they love pushing their guys for it, and
because literally you see their faces and it's just one
of those things, and they're very, very incredibly marketable. I mean,
you can be Nick Swaggy p Young and be more
in some of the biggest names in other sports, because
it's just the way the NBA is. So I don't
think it will do a full shift or a full
onoint eighty. However, I do get to the point of

what you're saying. I've been saying this to you guys
as long as I've been on the show. Remember we
talk about quarterbacks, and remember I said, at some point
there's gonna be a team that just says, no, well, no,
what I'm due, I'm Rock perrieror I'm this, I'm up.
They gave Trevor Laurn, they give Dak President, I'm due. No,
I'm not paying you sixty five million just because technically
(34:30):
I have to, because you up next. No, And I
think you're starting to see where owners are gonna be like, no,
I don't want to play Luca Now.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
They could end up being wrong.
Speaker 5 (34:39):
He'd go to Lakers win three rings in seven eight
years and it'll burn them. But you're starting to see
ownership say, all right, these are the parameters in which
we're doing business. I'm paying player X in this case
Luca this crazy money. If I see he's down with
the regiment, down with the program, down to do the check,
the debt, the dotted line here in all the boxes,
I should say that we're asking for he didn't do that,

at least what they've saying. What they're telling us, they
decided to move on. Now that is your prerogative as
the owner. Now I think the owners becomes down. If
I'm a fan of the team, you gotta win, because
we can't have given up Luca. Don't win for the
next fifteen to twenty five years or something, and then
he runs off and runs one, two or three with
the Lakers.

That'll burn me.

That'll be a thirty for thirty if that happens, like
the trade that should have never happened.

And I already see the title, you know.

So they're definitely gonna have to do this and find
a plan in which they can turn the franchise around
and win again, because if Luca goes to the Lakers
and wins, that's gonna be problematic. But I do feel
like some of these owners are saying, hold on, I
do ownership. Mark Cuban is gone. We don't have to
do business how he would do it. We don't have
to do things that he would.

Remember they asked Mark Cuban, would you your wife or Luca?
He said, uh, I'm gonna go ahead, get the divorce
papers ready right now.

He was that in on Luca in twenty twenty when
they ask him that, this ownership says no, so we'll
see how.

any numbers or has been a failure or whatever. You're

were in the finals and the favorites because of Luca.
You were in the finals and the favorite. Now didn't
you didn't win, Boston won it. But you see, I'm sorry,
we're close. All we got to do is get them back.
We got the team together and they opted out of that.

could make other owners take a look at that and say,

He was out to dinner and bol And there's reasons
why it would make sense for the first time. Number One,
both he and a D are clutch guys. He and
a D are personal friends, not just like.

He got eighty to come to They've won a championship together,
They've been through the battles.

That's his brother, and so you don't want to put
the first of all, I don't want to put Lebron
in that. So we say, hey, man, we might make
this move. I just want you to know. Then it
gets weird because it looks like, oh, Lebron was okay
with it. Now, I'm your man. You didn't even tell
me at least talk to me about it. I'm your god.

I'm not saying if you got to do what you
got to do, but at least have a convo with me,
and you don't. That would be weird Between he and

This is the first time the Lakers have made a
move and so long that was beneficial to them and
them alone. It might ultimately be Lebron, meaning if he
and Luca mess around and do something this season or next.
But they actually did something great for them, not for
Kobe God blessed dead, not for Magic Johnson, not for Lebron.

They said, this is best for us.

We're getting arguably the one, two three best player in
the entire NBA at twenty five, who hopefully can be
with us for the next seven.

Lebron and he you never know what could happen. But
they did it for him, and I think this is telling.

son do half G League, half NBA. They've taken all
clutch players for the last five, six, seven years. This

the whole Bus family in this organization, this move, Let's

What do we want to look like? And that was
impressive to me.

and then you're moving on from a D two twenty
two thirty is what he would get with the Lakers.
And he signs the deal and then you know, I mean,
it's a it's a shrewd move. Obviously he could deny

and say he doesn't want to be here and not
sign a deal, just become a free agent, and then
you will have to look at it and say that
was a calculated risk without knowing is a deal.

Though you know he's two, he's generationally good and when
you start to look at some of the numbers, you're
literally looking at Lebron. When Lebron about the last decade,

the next Lebron, uh uh winby Will It's still to
be determined. But like they keep telling you, somebody's the

next Zion. That was the other thing I was looking for.
He's about to be. Lugu was the first person a
massive Lebron fan as I am went okay that right there,
because the way he manipulates the game, the way he
could take four of us, me and you, Alex rob
G to the finals, because he's just that good as
far as offensively, clearly defensively he is atrocious and they'll
have to try.

have their second guy, and it was pretty easy.

For Boss Kyrie because of the esthetics, does get a
pass sometimes for the play well or or what is
deemed as a good game for him would be a
subpar for Luca, will be a subpar for prime Lebron,
subpar for Prime, d Way, prime, for Kobe, like he
can have twenty four and like man he was balling
the night where Luke had him what was wrong with him?

And near to me is the difference. Kyrie doesn't have
to be great every single night.

Here's a question for you, though, Will Lebron embrace this
and accept the idea of being second fiddle? Because because
he can ruin, he can ruin what just took place

in his hands. Luca has to have the ball right

arguably the best defensive player in the year, giving you
twenty five twenty six at night.

almost two like that him alone would have been ridiculous.
Let's say it was like a d what's the comm

came away with this, I really did, and I thought
about it, and and you know, we had talked for
a long time after Lebron started hopping around putting together
dream teams and the big threes and all that kind
of went on with the NBA for a while. I
think we have entered the franchise empowerment era, and I

think this was the first step. This is something we
had never seen where a team has a twenty five
year old international star, All Pro or first team NBA.

Took a team to the NBA Finals eight months ago
and they said, hey, guess what the price tag is?
Three hundred and fifty million dollars this summer. Thank you,
but no thank you, they basically.

And they did it in the cloak of night and

Ditched him where Basically, you know, it's like that date
that you're with and you're like, hey, you know what,
just about the car for a minute, I need to
exactly and you and you're on your way and you
just leave her by the side. I know that's not mainly,

you get my point. That's what it felt like. This
wasn't hey, Luca, we just can't afford you. We want
to do the best that's for you. No, this was like, no,
we we don't believe we can win with you. And
and there are reasons why not that you want not
that you're not a great player, but there are other
things that we feel are an issue. And I really

believe that we're gonna enter this. This was the first
ownership group to step up and swing at a big
time player and say you know what, no thanks. And
I know fans around NBA America. They got to feel
like maybe this is the start of it. Maybe the

owners will take back the sport and step up to
these guys and say, no, we're paying you, You're gonna
honor your contrac and if you don't and don't do
the things we need you to do in the.

Process of trying to win, we'll move on without you.

And I know it's a cliche line, but Dallas can
really say we didn't win the NBA Championship with Luca
and we could not win it without them, Like it's
not like you won me three championships and you're the
reason why there's nowhere I can let you go. I
get that, but we didn't win. Yeah, and we can

move on. Now here's my big thing. There's a couple
other targets. And if I'm ownership, I'm looking at what
they just did in Dallas and in Philadelphia. Would embid
Joel embiid Man, You know what, this don't shape up,
things don't work out, We're gonna move on from Joel

embiid down here, right here in New Orleans with Zion Williamson.
Enough already, what a disaster this has been. You know
what can we package him and move on from this
contract and move on to somebody else making these guys available.
I'm dead serious. I think we might be seeing something

and a little bit which is totally different to Jimmy Butler,
but it is management ownership pushing back and not just
giving him all the time guys complain or say something
and right away, all right, we'll trade you.

We saw it even a little bit in Brooklyn when
Kevin Durant wanted to be traded. They said, no, we're
not giving you away. And we find a deal that
works for us, maybe we'll do it. But we're not nothing.
We're not just gonna give you away.

Are you teamed up? You know you James and Kyrie
to come here. You think I'm always just getting crazy
on this. So I don't think the NBA is ever
going to change. I think it still will be a
star driven league. I think the league embraces that.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
I think they love pushing their guys for it, and
because literally you see their faces and it's just one
of those things, and they're very, very incredibly marketable. I mean,
you can be Nick Swaggy p Young and be more
in some of the biggest names in other sports, because
it's just the way the NBA is. So I don't
think it will do a full shift or a full
onoint eighty. However, I do get to the point of

what you're saying. I've been saying this to you guys
as long as I've been on the show. Remember we
talk about quarterbacks, and remember I said, at some point
there's gonna be a team that just says, no, well, no,
what I'm due, I'm Rock perrieror I'm this, I'm up.
They gave Trevor Laurn, they give Dak President, I'm due. No,
I'm not paying you sixty five million just because technically

I have to, because you up next. No, And I
think you're starting to see where owners are gonna be like, no,
I don't want to play Luca Now.

They could end up being wrong.
Speaker 5 (34:39):
He'd go to Lakers win three rings in seven eight
years and it'll burn them. But you're starting to see
ownership say, all right, these are the parameters in which
we're doing business. I'm paying player X in this case
Luca this crazy money. If I see he's down with
the regiment, down with the program, down to do the check,
the debt, the dotted line here in all the boxes,
I should say that we're asking for he didn't do that,

at least what they've saying. What they're telling us, they
decided to move on. Now that is your prerogative as
the owner. Now I think the owners becomes down. If
I'm a fan of the team, you gotta win, because
we can't have given up Luca. Don't win for the
next fifteen to twenty five years or something, and then
he runs off and runs one, two or three with
the Lakers.

That'll burn me.

That'll be a thirty for thirty if that happens, like
the trade that should have never happened.

And I already see the title, you know.

So they're definitely gonna have to do this and find
a plan in which they can turn the franchise around
and win again, because if Luca goes to the Lakers
and wins, that's gonna be problematic. But I do feel
like some of these owners are saying, hold on, I
do ownership. Mark Cuban is gone. We don't have to
do business how he would do it. We don't have
to do things that he would.
Speaker 3 (35:44):

Speaker 5 (35:45):
Remember they asked Mark Cuban, would you your wife or Luca?
He said, uh, I'm gonna go ahead, get the divorce
papers ready right now.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
That was how Mark Cuban is.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
He was that in on Luca in twenty twenty when
they ask him that, this ownership says no, so we'll
see how.

I think that.

I think that's a man shift and that we haven't
seen that like like like again, we're not talking about
getting rid of somebody who hasn't who hasn't put up
any numbers or has been a failure or whatever. You're
talking about a guy who's an All NBA player five times, right,
he's twenty five years old eight months ago, and you

were in the finals and the favorites because of Luca.
You were in the finals and the favorite. Now didn't
you didn't win, Boston won it. But you see, I'm sorry,
we're close. All we got to do is get them back.
We got the team together and they opted out of that.

I think that's shocking to me, and I think it
could make other owners take a look at that and say,
what did they do in Dallas? Why are we accepting
this in Philadelphia?

least with Embiid you could argue it hasn't been in
like he it's his health, you know what I mean?

Like he Yeah, but there's a lot of those are

Because but embat it has been bad in the postseason.
His numbers go down big time. We've talked about this
over and over. I'm just saying, at some point, you
haven't won with them.

That's a fair point. You haven't even gotten to the
got to the finals with him. I'm not mad at
him beat you know, but I feel like with Zion.
The only reason I bring it up is similar in
you know the regiment, right, you know the plan they
have Zion. You gotta lose weight, Zion. You gotta do this, Zion.
We want you healthier your body. You're yes, you are
a freak of nature, and that you can jump this

high in that fast with that kind of weight. We
don't want you carrying that much weight. Which, by the way,
they send him to the worst place.

Absolutely there twelve hours, and so I can't even imagine
what I would do living here. But I think that's
why the Zion one kind of fits in that can
he ever get into shape we need him? Can we
trust the process if you will to him to be
all in on what we need him to do for
the next ten years?

And that's why I can see them saying, you know what,

We got to move on from Zion while he's still

Even that to your point, the Lakers meaning for the
first time they did something without telling Lebron r R.

The Lakers like that franchise, empowerment, Geni Bus and you
know they have a relationship with Nico Harris, the GM
of the Map.

He has these really close with Rob Plenka, so there's
obviously some ties there, but for them to do something
without telling Lebron.

They would never make a move without telling Kobe.

They will never make one without Lebron, So that ownership
