Tim Kates in our number TI Tim Kates from AM
five to seventy LA Sports.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
He does the Dodgers pregame show.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
So we'll talk with Tim Kates, get caught up on
the world champion Dodgers. Plus a little hot seat. Jason
Smith jumps in. That's an hour number three. I poured
some smoke barbecue sauce on his back. Do that like
it smoked so much? He only want to do his
own show.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
And the last call in case you miss out on
getting in on the action at some point.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
But first you just snuck it in at barbecue sauce
on his back. Yeah, there you go. Well, first, let me.
Welcome in my partner, Kelvin Washington.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
I'm being honest, man, it feels so good to be
here because usually, you know, you gotta go to work,
and that can be a stressful thing. No, this is
so much less stressful than what I was just doing.
A couple of hours ago. My daughter was in a
spelling bee contest, and I can't express to you the
level of WUSA, the level of that was needed right
(03:12):
now in order. I mean, that is the most stressful
sports you get. Hey, you missed a shot, you miss
a kick in soccer is like you can use to that.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
You can deal with that.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
You never gonna make all these shots. You're never gonna
hit all your at bats.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
But daggets spelling me.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
It was nerve wrecking Robs and I'm good now, happy
to be here with you guys. Very nice, stressful and
she did what she did very well, Very proud of her.
Very stressful though, my gosh.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Very very nice. We love that.
Speaker 6 (03:35):
Nerve.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
You used to criticize me for not taking part in
the spelling be I should get one hundred on every
spelling test, and then they were like, you should be
in the spelling Bee, and I'm like I'm not a
really good speller. If you give me ten words and
give me a week to write, right right, not just
you can do that, But I'm not a speller like
on the spot. So I was like, I just don't
think I'm that good of a speller.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
I get you.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Then you made a forty year career, right, I know.
Is that unbelievable? I know teachers, they knew it was best. Yes,
all right, so uh, let's welcome into the odd couple. Cool.
We wouldn't be able to do this fine radio program without.
Oh we got we got Alex's engineer.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
How about Brie. She's free falling. What's up, Brie?
Speaker 4 (04:15):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Guys?
Speaker 3 (04:16):
I like that Bree free falling? Yes, I like that,
so Brie, Yes, Bree is in for rob g.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Shirt.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
It's the Phoenix Sunnah. I couldn't see that. I can't
see the number from here.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
And Rob G is probably turning over on the side
to get brown, you know, and if he wants to
be evenly brown on both sides.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
It takes a long time to talk to sixty nine
family members to just Alex. I don't know how many
breeds on the trip. On the trip, that's gotta be
racist a V W waggon the first road trip, you
just you were doing good. You think he's avoiding any stop.
Oh god, let's stop. Let's not go there.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Okay, stop, that was quick you were on that one.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
We took a bad turn. All right, that was a
great turn yesterday, all right. And Martin Weiss is at
the anchor desk. Come on, Mark, we gotta figure out
what we're eating.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Man. He'll keep us updated throughout the program. And of
course Elijah is our social media guru. He does a
great job on the social So there you go. All right,
let's get started.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
LT. The real LT. We saw him, We did see him.
He look great. You know it does. Lawrence Taylor.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I'm old enough and I've been covering the National Football
League since.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Nineteen eighty seven. And you know what I covered, Lawrence Taylor. Wow,
that is a wow? Am I right?
Speaker 5 (05:46):
Don't you think that's a wild I mean, I'm the
greatest you could argue that got his football player, not
even just defensive.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
I was a reporter in New York at the Daily
News at that time, and I used to write giant
sidebars and go to the games and all that and
talk to Lawrence Taylor and all that back in the
day when he was wilding out on the field and.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Off the field. Okay, he was willow boy.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
But anyway, Uh, we've said this a couple of times
and talking about Michael Parsons, who people were saying was
the next Lawrence Taylor early on in his career, right,
I think that talk has died down drastically. But anyway,
Lawrence Taylor had a message for Michael Parsons.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Let's hear it, you know. And I've been since talking
about Michael Parsons. He's he's a great player. But guys,
this two more.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Let's play more football and less podcast I mean, there
was Lawrence Taylor, and obviously they weren't podcasting back when
I was covering football and he was playing and starting
in the NFL and all that stuff. But that's just
a simple message, am I right? For real, Michael Parsons,
the podcasting game, all that other stuff you want to.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Do will be there for you if you're a great player,
Am I right?
Speaker 1 (07:00):
It's just a matter of they'll be there for you.
You don't have to do it now. You don't want
to look up one day and have your ten twelve
year career go by and you not reach your full
potential because you were distracted by other stuff.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
It's a short ride. Short.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
It ain't like being a sports writer where you could
have a forty five to fifty year career. Right, I'm
still going thirty nine in counting. You don't get to
do that as a professional athlete. If you're lucky, lucky,
lucky lucky, you're Tom Brady, extra extra lucky, you'r Lebron James.
(07:43):
Baseball players have been many who done played twenty years.
But you get my point. It doesn't happen a lot,
but the idea that you would waste your time and
energy on stuff that really really, you haven't mastered the game.
Your team hasn't gone to the CE Championship or Super Bowl.
You haven't won any hardware like Defensive Player of the Year,
(08:06):
like all that.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Right, not yet? I don't think so. Right? Did he
win one? Four time All Pro Pro bowler, three time
All Pro? I don't know. I can't remember if he won.
If it's feeling no, I don't think he has no.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
I don't think so, not yet, right, look that up
for me, Bri. I just want to make sure that
one didn't slide in. But you get my point. As
good as he is and all the stuff, that he's
still a lot to be done, there's still a.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Lot to be done, and he has a chance to
be that guy.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
I mean, everybody was talking about him in the same
breath as Lawrence Taylor.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Yeah, he's been incredible. That's far where you got it.
Just the rookie of the Year. Yeah, that was it.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Okay, defense, Yeah, okay, And that's what I'm saying, Like,
there are other big time awards to win. I didn't
want to show change him, so I'm glad we looked
it up. But anyway, I think LT's message is real.
And if he was listing or somebody told him, put
down the damn my could phone and cut the podcast
off and focusing on football for the next ten years.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
How's that?
Speaker 5 (09:07):
So two things here, One, the message is right, the
hey focus on football, make that be the main thing,
be the main thing completely.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Get that. We've said it many times up here. But
here's the.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Challenge, Rob And I've learned this even in my middle
age of I'm older than the young folks, the breeze
of the world, but I'm younger than you. So I'm
kind of in this weird stage. I'm like big Bro
almost unc kind of age. So just because you couldn't
doesn't mean you wouldn't. And what I mean by that
(09:40):
is a lot of us like to say, Man, these
kids breeding younger, always on Instagram, always on the podcast.
Well you couldn't. There was not access to it. I
don't know that LT wouldn't. Now the message is right,
let's get back to focus on football. Let's maybe lock
in more on that. I'm with it, but I do
think it's a little difficult to tell people you shouldn't
do that. I wouldn't do that when you didn't have access,
(10:03):
because you know, I disagree with that. But you can
do that retro meeting. Now that I'm adult, I understand
the priorities and things that matter.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
No, because everybody's not doing it and that, and there
are players in his era right now who.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Are focused on no.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
No, they're not no, but most aren't doing Okay, the majority,
the biggest stars aren't doing it.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I'm telling you they aren't. Wait a minute, who's no.
Who you saying?
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Draymond Green, Aaron Rodgers, Draymond No, I'm talking about that.
Aaron Rodgers is that the in the twilight of his career.
I'm talking about lebron j I'm talking abouting red Wine.
Who got the person who is the podcast is the coach. Now, okay,
guys who are winning m v P All the guys
winning m v.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
P s don't have a podcast. None of them have
a podcast. Right, But okay, there you go at that level.
I'm just giving you.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
If you could give me a guys won the MVP
of the league and as a podcast popping every every week,
then I would.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
I'll be quiet, I'm saying, but I know he'll never
be an MVP though, because he's not a quarterback and
so all top out.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
It's the truth. You know that. You get my point.
You think he's reached his potential.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
No, I'm no, no, no, you're missing what I'm I'm not
disagreeing that he shouldn't you and I have said that.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
Focus on that, especially considering the content.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
If he had a Star Wars, Hey, a Star Trek
podcast where I geek out over Star Trek at Star Wars.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
I get that, Okay, cool.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
His actually becomes detrimental to the team because he says
Dak Prescott he didn't put him in his top ten quarterback.
He talks about Mia McCarthy. He can go on it's
all about the players. He talks about his own dag
on contract. Oh man, I want to be here, only
I'll take less money. So I'm not disagreed with what
I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
You imagine if if Lamar Jackson had a podcast no
I'm serious, and and didn't win in the playoffs or
kept getting knocked out or Josh Allen or any of
those people out of podcasts, they would be torch.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
I know, but I would say that's who are far
fetched though, the way where we are now, they they
have access to this, so they feel like I have
to do it. So my only thing too is last
thing with LT, you mentioned it at the top. I
don't know who had more distractions in the eighties than LT.
LT was in not them streets, them streets. He was
(12:21):
in them streets. But that's different.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Yeah, that's different because he had an addiction and and
he had an addiction.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
But he got okay.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
But I don't look at that as as as volunteering
to do a podcast during the season.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Streets.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah, but he was in the streets all the time
and had nothing to do with football, so he had
an addiction to do a podcast during football season, or
Draymond Green during the NBA finals.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
I just you're not winning every year, You're not getting
to me. It's a distraction. Distraction.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
What I'm saying is there's always going to be a distraction.
The entire NBA almost got shut down because they were
in the streets in the seventies hanging out, clubbing, party,
not taking it seriously. You got to the eighties, you
know what. You know what the Mets were doing. You
know what the guys we're doing in them streets. So
what I'm saying, game, I don't look at it. If
it's podcast, if it's cocaine and parties and girls, there's
(13:18):
there's always gonna be these distractions. Except podcasts is something
where you're publicly. You know, I'm out here putting myself
out here on my YouTube page of my podcast. The
issue what we're having right now is young people have
access to everything, and they have FOMO.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
They feel like, why do I have to miss out?
Speaker 5 (13:34):
I can be a WNBA star Angel Rees and have
a podcast and do modeling and show up to the
met Gala.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
I can do all that.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
Michael Parsons can be an all pro lining and also
be a podcast holder.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
They feel like, why can't I this is the era?
Why can't you?
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Because your team can't win a playoff game and your
team at the defense that you play on gave up
forty points in the playoffs gave up forty or more points.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
It's the first three home games of the year. Like
that is the reason we know this. If you play well,
it erases everything. You could do whatever you want.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
But when you're not getting those kind of results, I'm
just saying, you open yourself up or nobody, nobody pull
George's career seriously. And that's that's a shame of podcast
all the time. And that's the shame of it.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
That's what I mean.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Who looks at Paul George as a serious basketball player?
Now that So my point is very clear. Everybody podcast
washed up. They're done, they're retired, they're washed up. Those
are the people with the podcast.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
Trey Young, he's got one, he's all up on it.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
It's almost like he's un of you playing the podcast,
is playing talking for you.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
That's the problem. So they need to relax with the podcast.
I'm with you, but they're not is my point all right?
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
You see, I'm already fired up on this worship Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
You need deliveries.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
Look at it as right there, MA have your own
McDonald's that there's.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Nothing you could take your time and do on the
off season. Do whatever you want. I just say you
can't do one in the off season. I'm not that
rigel I'm talking about with you during the season. They
are eight seven seven everything now ninety nine on Fox
eight seven, seven nine nine six sixty three.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
They want to wrap. Did LT deliver the right message?
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Or no?
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Is he wrong?
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Is the old school ancient doesn't know what he's talking about?
Speaker 3 (15:26):
Where are you on this? He's still scared?
Speaker 1 (15:28):
It is The Odd Couple right here on Fox Sports
Radio a Worship Wednesday, Rob Parker, Kelvin Washington.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Stick and stay.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
If you're with LC and want to bring back professional
professionalism in the US of A, be sure to.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Catch live editions of The Odd Couple with Rob Parker
and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Fox Sports is Fox Sports Radio, Seid Cuple, Robin Kelvin
on a worship Wednesday. Hopefully you're having a fantastic one
thus far. We are broadcasting line from the tire rack
dot Com studios. Tire rack dot Com. It's gonna help
you get there, an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
road has a protection and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tire rack dot com the way tire buying should be
(16:15):
Rob and I talking to LT had some words from Micah,
who everybody said was supposed to be the next LT.
He said, how about more football less podcasts?
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Right? And remember LT uh Lawrence Taylor?
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yeah, Ladany Thomason, why they see New Orleans two. Yeah,
he's a great guy, really good for sure. All right,
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, Let's get it
kicked off. Let's start with let's start with Rich in Texas.
You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, rich?
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (16:48):
How you gotta deal tonight? Great? Are you ah doing well?
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Thank you?
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (16:54):
I just I think that uh, you know, the podcasts
are all about, you know, getting a hot take, right,
and so that can only lead to trouble in botes
and more material. And then I think it.
Speaker 6 (17:04):
Also causes Mike and to lose credibility because he.
Speaker 7 (17:07):
Hasn't won an MVP, he hasn't won a Super Bowl,
he hasn't done that kind so, you know.
Speaker 6 (17:11):
So I don't think he has much credibility and it
obviously takes away from his game.
Speaker 7 (17:15):
So that's why I feel I think he.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Just listened to LT NOW show doubt. Thanks for the call.
Uh who's that which one? Mason? Yeah, Mason in the
Bay Area. You're in the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
What's up? Mason?
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Hey, guys, I.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Want to start it off with saying one of my
favorite quotes from Rob Parker.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Put down the maker.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Oh that's right, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
That's where I agree with you player, Rob, But that's
where it also stops.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
You know, I'm kind of leaning towards Kelvin a little.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Bit on this one. Yeah, And I just.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Feel like, you know, they would if they could. I
really do feel like that.
Speaker 7 (17:53):
You know, there's no way to say. You know, That's
why I don't really always like those arguments, because there's
no true way to tell if there was a different,
you know, generation there in that generation. But I also
feel that, you know, this can of worms has been opened.
You know, and there's no way of it.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
The two pastes out of it too.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
No, no, no, you could, you could easily stop it.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
I mean, come on, Mason, you work for somebody, Yes,
if you work for me and you sign a contract,
no outside work, just like a year, just like any
other job, any other job. They can tell you. I
know plenty of people in the media business. Right, you
cannot do anything else.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
But you're not a proact like no, no business. No,
it ain't what I'm saying. No, no, no a contract
media right, Media won't let you do other media. Football
won't let you do other football. They don't control your
other yes they do. They control your time during the season, yes,
they do. Literally don't. They could tell you and your yes,
(18:58):
why why was that danger? Does that have to do
with football? I still danger your health?
Speaker 3 (19:03):
No, that's what I pay your mind.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
No, you can still people not worried about danger. You
could still say what if you could still say? All
I'm saying is you could say, now you have a
right to sign with that team or not. But I
could put it in the contract to say no podcast during.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
That's what I'm gonna say.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Football, no way, Now you have a right to do it.
That's what I'm gonna say to who next? Mike in Augusta,
you're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
What's up, Mike? What's going on? Fellas?
Speaker 7 (19:34):
How am you? I'm good, man, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
On the way to hospital.
Speaker 7 (19:38):
My mom was in the i c U in your
fifteen days.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
But loving players, you know that, man, real brother?
Speaker 7 (19:45):
All right, thank you all. But but yeah, what I
want to say, I love the message from LT. But
taking advice or or someone give it advice, that was
the most distracted person ever from the wrong messenger. It's
like me taking real ship advice from Sean Garvey. You
know what I mean, Judge, you.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Ain't reading the books.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Wow, Okay, well but here's the only thing I'll say
to that. Okay, here's the only thing I'll say to that.
And you're right, LT. We know about his checker pass
and whatever. But on Sunday you because Michael, Michael been amazing. Okay,
he ain't LT. He ain't went two Super Bowls, He
ain't doing all that stuff.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
LT would come back that night, just got back home
seven am and go to the game, get three sacks.
That's what I'm Sayatisfied exactly, it might be the best
football player, not just defensive. I don't disagree with that.
We don't agree on a lot. I don't disagree with.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
That lt was that good.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Uh, Andre in Massachusetts, you're on the odd couple of
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
What's up, Dray, Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 6 (20:44):
Appreciate you taking the call on this one. I'm siding
with Lawrence Taylor, you know, in reference to Michael Parsons,
because the secondary things he's doing is taking away from
him being all time great and whatever you want to
talk about Lawrence Taylor off the field, it's beyond dispute
what he meant on the field arguably the greatest defensive
player of all time. And that's the pedigree, that's the
(21:06):
cloth that Michael Parsons is cut from. But he's not
reaching that standard and the Dallas he's not just he
plays for a dysfunctional organization. You yourself are not that
force of nature that Lawrence Taylor was. And it does
have to do with some of these secondary things that's
going on. Now. Listen, we live in this nil you
know what I mean. Social media, everybody wants to build
(21:26):
their brand. Everybody wants to get the highest dollar amount
We have to be in front of the screen all
the time.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
So that's the world that.
Speaker 6 (21:33):
He's living in. But he's not living up to his
overall potential. So maybe you do take a step back
and just go one hundred percent all in on football
to reach that level. So I'm in agree with Lawrence Taylor.
He's a good player, you know, and he gets he
gets reached.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
He could be great, right, he could be great, but
he's not there yet.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
Remember that line and uh the movie taken when he said,
good luck, good luck trying to get all these the
young folks. They want everything. I want to be a podcast,
superstar athlete. I want to be a model. I want
to have my own clothing brand.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Good luck.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
That's good luck trying to everybody. Can't be every time,
tell them, but they ain't gonna be listening. Uh, Mark
Fucky co Medina, Fox Sports Radio, NBA Analysts Weekend Show.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Now he's got that popping for on a weekend show.
Our congratulations brother Mozeltov.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
Hey, thank you guys, just trying to follow in your footsteps.
Share delivered a lot of good hot seat.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
Well, you know, we're definitely gonna make sure we listen
because we'll never miss it. You know, you know how
never miss it? Mark, what's up?
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Man?
Speaker 5 (22:47):
There's a whole bunch of NBA starting as we got
the Lakers the second half, second half kicking up.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
I'm ready for the game here. JJ Reddick told me
a practice yesterday that Luca Doctors is going to be
off the minutes restriction, so I think he might be
laying it up tonight.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Stay there.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
What do you expect to see from him now that
he is usually mentioned off the minute restriction? Is Lebron
He's not playing tonight.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Right, he's listened. That's questionable.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
Now.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
I can tell you that they've been going through a
walk through and he was a part of it. So
there is a chance that he will play. But we'll see.
I asked JJ Reddick about his ankle because of the
fact that he missed the All Star Game to the
dismay of us, and I'm sure Rob and you already know. Yeah,
JJ said that this is an injury that you know
they've been dealing with all season, which I already knew,
(23:33):
but something that he expects doctor manage through the rest
of the season. But I think that being said, there
is a good chance will play tonight.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
All right, let's go to the Western Conference.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
I know everybody wants to hand Luca and Lebron the
Western Conference and going to the NBA Finals.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
Yes, JJ Reddick back for Coach of the Year running exactly.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
There you go, all that stuff happening, But as you
look for the second half of his season, obviously the Lakers,
there's some other issues that still are there. Big man,
protecting the realm, playing defense. I'm not as sold as
other people are. But what about OKC. Why are people
dissing them? I know they're a young team, but they
(24:16):
continue They've just played so well.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
They got a really good team.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Yeah, they shouldn't be dissing them. Yeah, they're a young team,
but they're really talented team and their most the complete team.
If I had to kind of nippick any potential weaknesses.
They're not a great rebounding team, but they have a
lot of great frontcore depth, and I suspect that that
will improve once shut Home grins back and Isaia Hardenstein
has been a really good big and and the fact
(24:42):
that segoes Alexander I would put him in the running
to win MVP. And they just have so many great
wing defenders. You look at guys like Lou Dor, Alex Caruso,
Jalen Williams when you're looking at the playoffs and what
that means. That means they have three legitimate bodies. They
can throw it the opposing team's top scorers, so they're
(25:02):
not going to ever shut them down, but they could
wear them out. I think that could be a difference
in the seven games series. The way I look at
the West, it's okay to seeing everyone else. It's not
like cow was with the Warriors when Kevin Durant was there,
But there seems to be a lot of separation of
a thunder half versus the rest of the field in
the West.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
Mark, Mark, what about the Warriors. You got Jimmy Butler
feels good about this stuff, feels good. You got Draymond
guaranteed they're gonna win the championship.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
What do you make it out?
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Seventy five will get you on the New York sub
by thet Yes.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
Yeah, my doing to Draymond He did the same thing
when he was in LA a few weeks ago. They
win the championship. When I talked to him, he guarantees
they will win a championship every single season. That's just
how he's wired for better and for worse. But I
think realistically, Jimmy Butler is a shot of adrenaline. He's
an espresso shot. He's a shot in the arm. So
I think where you looked at the Warriors, they're eleventh
(25:55):
in the in the West. You know, even with Steph
Curry playing all star level, Draymond Green bowly avoiding suspensions
this season still wasn't enough because of inconsistency with their
role players. I think with that, I would suspect they
get in the playoffs, not even just as a player,
but a sixth seed. But there I think best case
scenario is they steal a first round series because they're
(26:17):
a tough out, but they go no longer in the
second round, and then the most likely scenario is they're
they're a challenging speed bump for whichever team faces them
in the first round. But nothing more.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Help me in the East with the teams, we notice
Celtics not as dominant as they were a year ago.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
You got the Bucks in there, you got the Knicks.
Of course, who do you like it in Cleveland?
Speaker 1 (26:43):
I don't want to leave out Cleveland because that would
not be right. Cleveland is the best team. Tell me
who do you like in the East, Cleveland or Boston
or the Nickabockers.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
I think it's a toss up coin flip between Boston
and Cleveland. And for familiar reasons. You know, Boston's coming
off the championship. They mostly have their same core back. Yeah,
they've gone through some ups and downs this season, but
most of it's had to just do with championship hangover,
and I suspect that hangover will go away once the
playoffs start. And the Calves, they're just a high powered offense.
(27:17):
They have a really good, I think chemistry in their
back court with Darius Garland Donovan Mitchell. They're not stepping
on each other's toes. They're complimenting each other with their
playmaking and scoring. And same thing goes with their front
core with Jared Allen and then the Mobiley. This is
a pair of players that was seen as guys that
can't coexist last season, but what we saw is all
(27:37):
they needed more time, was more time together and a
better coach and Kenny Atkinson. So I think it's between them. Yes,
Milwaukee and New York have a punchers chance. I think
all things being considered, as long as there's no significant
injuries with any teams in the West or in the East.
None of those teams the Knicks or the Boxer Games.
Eastern Conference finals last one for me?
Speaker 5 (27:59):
Mark, Uh, what do you look at? We've had conversations
about MVP. We talked about in the NFL. I believe
in voter fatigue and all that this second half that
right now, SGA is far leading in MVP candidates with odds,
the odds with.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Vegas, remember any get back again? But what do you think?
Is it his?
Speaker 1 (28:17):
Is it? Is it?
Speaker 5 (28:19):
Yokis can get back a lot of people feel like
it's almost like the largest believable season.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Yeah. I mean, I'm be clear to the listeners. I'm
not putting money in Vegas because I don't like losing money.
But I am betting on Shay Goojes Alexander to win MVP.
A lot of voters that Quate win loss record for
veteran for worse the thunder or up there. But I
think in fairness to say it's not just about being
on the best team. He is one of the biggest
reasons why they are the best team because he's an
(28:45):
unstoppable score at the rim, gets the foul line, he
makes his teammates better. Some of his so called weaknesses
from three and defense has gotten better. And here's the
other thing. He is considered an isolation heavy type score,
yet he's the ultimate team guy. He tends to make
the right basketball play. Yeah, you can't roll out Nicole Jokic.
(29:05):
The Douggets have been in this picture largely because of him,
despite inconsistency with Jamal Murray, injury to Aaron Gordon, a
young supporting cast. But I think SGA has just really
taken this game to the other level this season.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
That's going to be his His mony thing is the
analytics and these young NBA writers.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
You know, I've been covering the league since nineteen eighty seven.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
Yes, there you go and flew commercial.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
Yes right, I sat next to Sam Bouie on the fly.
By the way, you've overdone your a lotment. I'll you
get that to one hour one hour.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Well, my point to you is, how will they justify
the analytics. If the joker has the greatest you know
what I mean, analytics right ever before then because I
because if it's not him, then then the analytics that
they've been pushing and saying are so important and all
this kind of stuff will wind up being moved. So
(29:59):
I just feel like there's a there's a there's a
tough spot if you're want of those writers who believes
in that stuff.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Am I wrong?
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (30:07):
Well, what I've found, Rob is that every voter is different.
Some go by the numbers, some go by the narratives,
some go by the win loss record, Some go to
the traditional route and actually watching the games and determine, okay,
which player is literally the most valuable player on that
respective team. So when you combine all those different variables
that often contradict themselves, you get different kinds of results.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
All right, he is Mark Funky Comedina.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
Thank you man as always for joining Check them out

I'm gonna make it going on. That's right. We got
an All Star break too.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
But tonight there's only one game in the NBA, thanks Lebron,
and it's uh the Lakers minus twelve and a half
taken on Charlotte I'm gonna take Charlotte plus twelve and
a half.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
Really, I don't know. I have to look. Maybe Martin
knows is LaMelo playing. If LaMelo's not playing.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
Lebron's not more than why wouldn't it be fifteen or
twenty Lakers about to all right, I got no minute restricts.
No Lebron Lucas shoots four for twenty two and Charlotte
l I'm knowing about Charlotte plus twelve and a half,
all right. And remember, I'm not telling you who to
bet on what you're telling them. I'm telling you who
(32:26):
I bet on.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
That's it. One game. We'll get back to it starting tomorrow.
The game. Yep.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
Soon enough you'll have the w NBA that you can
put all your money onto. Yo, it's gonna be so fun.
WBA season. Just messing with you about that stuff.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
W n B A.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
I don't even know when the season is that, to
be honest. And last year with Caitlin, Clark asked me
how many games I watched?
Speaker 3 (32:51):
How many games did you watch? Zero? Okay, I saw highlights.
I didn't watch one game. You got three.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
We got four women in your house. I get Oh,
don't be worry about all the gout at my house.
I'm just saying, yeah, I went sorry with the sparks.
You know, she hit a huge She hit a Steph
Curry shot. It wasn't a game, but it was a
dagger to put him up five against the sparks, like
forty seconds left from the logo.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
That was uh, that was your youngest daughter. That wasn't Lebron.
She was, now, do my babies like that? My babies
had a NBA game? Don't she care about? What's cotton? Cad?
So when's the cot promised us popcorn? Don't do that?
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Right?
Speaker 3 (33:27):
We had Let's just be honest.
Speaker 5 (33:29):
No, I took the game was looking I mean honestly,
it was sold out and it was Kaitlyn Clark. So
the end, everybody storm the corner. I was like, god, Lee,
this is crazy because we're not even anything.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
His daughters asked him, did Kaitlyn Clark ruin the NBA
All Sirt Weekend? Uncle Rob stick? Kayln ruined everything? I
was like, yeah, I did say that.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
The reason why your bite doesn't work right now, Kaitlyn
Clark of chicken Nuggets in the freezer Clark, Kaylyn Clark.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
That's why she didn't buy hung Kaylyn Clark. Okay, that's
why I'm hungry right now. She didn't order my food,
Kaylyn Clark. You you guys are ordering stuff. This is why. See,
this is why.
Speaker 5 (34:03):
Okay, can I say this and I'm not gonna say
it's sad, No, no, sad. You just say, having a
woman take care of this is amazing. They're organized, they're
gonna get it together. Look at Brie focus locked in
right now. Steve Nash himself could walk in here right now.
She wouldn't even know she's so focused. Hey, Brie, real quick, don't.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Put the start talking multi time real quick. A woman
you are, that's big facts, Brie. If we were at
breakfast in New Orleans, when I cut your pancake for you,
would you cut me if I said to you, hey, Brie,
is that a pancake on your plate? Like we're sharing?
No no, no, we're not sharing.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
No no no no.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
You ordered your omelet and he ordered his whatever I order,
and Alex order whatever we all ordered.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
There's no family dish style kind of okay. So then
I look over you sitting next to me, and I say, hey, Brie,
is that a pancake?
Speaker 5 (34:55):
Clearly it's a pancake. Bre He's been the same pancake
for two hundred years.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Okay, what do you do? I would be like, yeah,
it's pancake, okay, and give him the plate and be
like here you go. Would you really?
Speaker 1 (35:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (35:05):
What what else would I do? I be like, yeah,
it's a pancake. Just agree, Yeah, that's what I would do. Yes,
it's a pancake.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
And what I want to ask you if that's a
pancake that annoys me asking for a little bit, to
see that, I would rather you say, yo, Dub, can
I get a piece?
Speaker 3 (35:18):
And I would say, yeah, I'd rather that than you. Hearry,
that looks like a pancake. No, that's a pancake. Pancake,
rob g. So he was just sharing his pancake pancake.
He did not feed me cut off. You ain't cut
no no sliver and no pan. You're sharing food.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
I love sharing.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Really, you're in a tough spot. You're in a tough
spot because if he asked for party, but you're gonna
let him cut it, so you gotta cut it.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
So all I said, Martin was if we were at
breakfast and I was sitting next to you, and I say, hey,
is that a pancake?
Speaker 3 (35:51):
What would you think if I said that to you? Watch?
Let me tell you, I would think how late was
last night? You're debating? What do you think it is?
Trampled you?
Speaker 2 (35:59):
No?
Speaker 1 (35:59):
No?
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Not bacon?
Speaker 5 (36:01):
Right?
Speaker 3 (36:02):
Hey? Is that? And mind you?
Speaker 5 (36:04):
This is the party's leaving out Martin twelve hours earlier,
Mar Robbzi ordered some bread at the Emeralds restaurant in
Great Place, Ma, can I order bread? He had to
pay for bread, one bread that came to table. He
ordered bread on his own dime. Rob goes, hey, can
you bring his bread out first?
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Like in a hurry?
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Don't?
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Why are you bringing my bread out on?
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Now?
Speaker 3 (36:23):
You eating his hot cl his hot cross buns? That
looks like rolls?
Speaker 7 (36:27):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Are those hot buttered rolls? Unbelieved? That's how I know
y'all been married way too. Let's break bread. We ain't
been mad. We in the newly web phase. Okay.
Speaker 5 (36:36):
I would have been like Rob for seven like a
pancake like dad does. And since I know Fox is
paying for this, hey, can you bring this man some pancakes?
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Robbie's worn down? K don you didn't have a.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Coupon for the pancakes, not Otherwise I would have got
a two for one company paying for it.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
By the way, I haven't done my expension a minor
right know you kidding. I'm ready for my money.
Speaker 5 (36:54):
I need Rob Robbzi come back. We can't function with
a Oh doctor J has something to say, we'll tell you.
Fox Sports Radio
Speaker 7 (37:06):
M hm
