Speaker 2 (03:43):
But of course, let me welcome in my partner, he
is Kelvin.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, man, shoot, are you you weren't lying about the
brother who said that things are official and good? We
got to talk about that at some point, right.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Absolutely, big contract for stephen A deserves Nickel and we'll
definitely uh talk about that. As you know my relationship
with him. Yeah, I'm very proud of the young man
and his.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Future is beautiful Yeah, great news, which is great for
all of us. We'll talk about it.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Yep, we have a lot to talk about. It's a
lot of NFL stuff going on that we'll get to.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
And and this is the time of the year when
they start doing their business, and most of it, Kelvin
is dirty business.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
It just is the money game.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
This is the NFL, this is how they do business.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
But again, uh, when I see this kind of stuff,
I always think of the players in this situation and
and nothing else.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
All right, let's kick it off, uh, and talk about
the bangles. You got, you got? You're hot and bothered
by the Cincinnati Bengal.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Well, I mean it's one of those you know, Rob wins.
People have something to say about you, and you maybe
feel a different way, like no, no, no, that's not
necessarily me. That's not a full representation of who I am,
what I'm about, blah blah blah. That'd be the Bengals,
right because people they often would say, everybody, hey, the
Bengals are a cheap organization. They're not necessarily the best
or most well run organization. Hey hey, hey, hey, that's
(05:13):
not us. That's not true. Even though we had our
players million dollar players playing outside in the snow freezing
no practice facility for eons. Now they finally got that
over the last couple of years. But one of the
things that has been clear is their franchise quarterback, one
of the best in the league, who had an incredible
year this year, Joe Burrow. He has been very, very
forthright about the fact that, hey man, I want us
(05:35):
to get things right with this team. I want us
to find ways to actually start succeeding and winning and
getting back to a chance to beat a Super Bowl
like they did when he first came into the league.
And them franchising T Higgins again, I think is just
another slap to the face of hey, we're not fully
(05:56):
committed to winning. You know, you look at the look
at T's Trey Hendrickson, right, they don't they let him go,
and you're starting to see where you can see it.
Joe Burrow say, hey man, all I want to do
is compete for championships. And Joe Burrow mentioned this, He
said it earlier, you know, month, month, two months ago,
talking about he was willing to restructure his deal. He
(06:19):
wants to find a way to keep T Higgins, He
wants to keep him find a way to keep Hendrickson.
He wants to find a way to keep Jamar happy.
He wants to do what we've just seen now the
Ranning Super Bowl champions do. The Philadelphia Eagles, They found
a way take care of their star players. Pay him early,
maybe even overpay for like a guy like aj Brown.
But the fact is, we have all the talent. We
(06:40):
have it all kept in house. And look at us.
We've gone a couple of Super Bowls over the last
few years, winning one this year, and the Bengals aren't
doing that. You know, you got t Higgins Jesse. He
gets twenty six million because he's franchised. It's the second
year in a row. You have to know he doesn't
like that. He has to feel a certain way about
why won't you commit to me long term? Your best
defensive player on a horrific defense team, Trey Hendrickson is
(07:02):
now gone. Who is one of the better that came
up second for Defensive Player of the Year Outstanding Player.
He's gone on a defense that was already horrible. So
you have to be wondering if Joe Burrow is sitting
here like, hey man, are we a little play around organization?
Or a big boy organization. I'm trying to compete and
win and get up there with Patrick Mahomes and eventually
(07:23):
try to win one and you know, make sure I'm
in the AFC Championship at the least like Josh Allen,
like Lamar Jackson. So to me, this is one of
those opportunities the last forty eight hours or so for
the Bengals to maybe say, no, man, we're serious. We're
not what the rumors say, We're not what our past is.
And they dropped the ball in my opinion, because now
you have to have t Higgins wondering, man, am I
(07:45):
worth it? And you know, do they take care of me?
Have given them a all for five six five years,
six years, whatever's been. They won't commit to me. And
Chay Henderson is gone on a bad defense that Joe
Burrow was mad because they kept losing games because of
the defense.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Up, yeah, I'm gonna disagree with you from this standpoint.
The Bengals are. They are a mom in pop store.
All teams are not created equal. Even with the same
salary cap, they don't have the money. They were never
going to be able to keep those players. That's why
a couple of years ago when they went to the
Super Bowl. That would have been their dream is to
(08:20):
actually win the Super Bowl and then you don't have to.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Pay everybody you paid the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
We even see it in Kansas City where they just
their offensive line was terrible. They just let go on
all pro offensive linemen right because they don't want to pay,
right Tyreek Kill.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
They didn't want to pay. This is the NFL. Now.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
I would agree with you if you're the Dallas Cowboys
and you have all this money and Jerry's not spending
money the last two years and saying, well, if you
take of Dak Prescott, we worked his contract.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
I don't know if that money's going to be spent
in free agency.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
There's the pushback on the Dallas Cowboys, not the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
You just said it.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
They didn't have a practice facility indoors until a couple
of years ago. They've been around forever. How in the
world were a couple of years ago they were still
practicing outside. I mean, come on, it tells you it's
a mom and pop operation in Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
I really I think people are misguided when they think
that these teams and these owners are.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
All rolling in doe.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
If football is your main business, you're not rolling in dough.
Even the Fords four five or ten, four or five
six years ago they lost money owning an NFL team.
How do you lose money? Look it up anybody who
doubts it. There were three teams in the NFL that
lost money. So you hear the numbers, the TV ratings,
(09:53):
all the money, but the expenses and all the other
stuff that it takes to run a team unless you're
really healthy.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
And Jerry has done it the last couple of years,
and maybe he's.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
Tying up his belt because it costs more to run
a team, and he's starting to say, well, I'm not
taking money from my other stuff to pay for the
football and people will be happy. And we still sell tickets. Cincinnati,
they don't have empty State and empty seats there.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
So people want to go to football.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
But this but Mike Brown is a is a small
mom and pop operation.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
The large borough knows that he's from Ohio.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
The larger part for me, though, Rob I totally hear
what you're saying, because everybody is a Steve Bomber, right,
Steve Bomber.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Has an arena.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Exactly mom using him as example. It's not NFL's NBA
because he has he has worked what one hundred and
some billion. He's on a different level. So this is
just his passion project that if you will. The only
thing I'm main point I'm focusing on is that's fine,
but this is how you can lose a guy like
a Joe Burrow because he's not one of those guys
that's just like, oh, I'm just happy to be in
(11:00):
the league. While I never saw this coming, Joe Burrow
wants to compete with the likes of a Patrick Josh Lamar.
He wants to win championships, and I totally get the way. Okay,
if you're gonna run a business operation like that, that's fine,
But then that's how you lose a Joe Burrow. How
you lose out on chances to compete and win for
titles because of this, and that's and if that's how
(11:20):
you're running it, then that's fine. And Bengos fans have
to know that Joe Burrow's gonna have to be okay
with that, which I don't believe he is. I believe
he wants to win. I don't think his competitiveness coming
from college winning. I don't think he sits back and like,
oh man, we just go out there and I'll perform well,
and so to me if they're gonna operate, like but then.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
I hear you in the perfect world.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Look at what they're doing in Seattle getting rid of
their receivers.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Look at what they're doing all over We got a
whole region.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Yeah, we got a whole conversation like this is.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Not this is not anything new.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
And if you're Joe Burrow, really they're gonna keep all
those players in Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
I never believed it.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
It's lucky he took a less of a deal because
it's Cincinnati, not exactly what I don't think he had said.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
He was willing to restructure the deal to try to
keep these guys too.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
But there's not enough money for them to pay all
those guys. And that's why they do it. We'll talk
about an hour number two. It's the system that's bad,
and so the players have to live with that bad
system that they agreed to. But my point is, he's
playing in Cincinnati. This is where you are, and you
got your big contract and the idea that you thought
(12:30):
everybody else was gonna get cashed out and that town
is just not realistic. And it doesn't mean there's about
fifteen teams in the NFL that doesn't that where they
don't spend money.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
So it's not there.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
It's not just everybody else is all in and spending
money left and right and building teams. Even the Patriots
didn't spend money. Tom Brady gave them a hometown discount
and all that go. Look at where's the big players
they signed. They didn't sign people. They used up people
when their contracts were when it was time to pay them,
(13:03):
they cut them.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
No, No, the Patriots were known for that. I think
for Tom Brady, like in a difference and even if
you want to go back to the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes,
is the difference is I'm winning and I feel like
it's worth it because I'm competing for a championship every
single year. Right.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
So now they told you Patrick Mahomes gave them the
discount with the idea to let's keep running this back
and keep the team together, and the first thing they
did was start to shed people.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
That's what I'm saying, Like.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
What I'm saying, right, but I'm saying, you're Patrick Mahomes.
You're literally all you've known for the most part of
being in super Bowls where it's like, all right, well,
this is a winning formula what we're doing. Obviously they
didn't win, but you're in the super Bowl, and I
just think Joe Burrow, who strikes me as somebody who
that's all he's here to do is compete for those
types the thing wants to win. This is how you
end up being a low I was gonna say middling franchise,
(13:51):
but maybe not even middling, and you lose a guy
like a Joe Burrow who you should be extremely happy
to have, who is very, very good, one of the
top three fourth quarterback in the league, and now you
you know, eventually this is how you lose them when
you're competing without a guy like that.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah, I just I think that there's enough. Joe Burrow's
not going anywhere.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
He's got a long term contract, he got paid, he
got his money, and obviously he would love to have
those guys. But I just when you start worrying about
GMing and and who's getting paid in other players, you're
gonna get in trouble because no matter what you do
doesn't mean that their other guys are gonna get paid.
Teams are still gonna make their own decisions eight seven,
(14:32):
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven, seven nine nine
six sixty three sixty nine. If the talent purge continues
in Cincinnati, will Joe Burrow wind up alienating? Well, since
what the Bengals wind up alienating Joe Burrow, We'll continue
that conversation next with you. It is the odd couple

(17:29):
Rob and I talking about just some of the moves
that the Bengals have made or didn't make over the
last few days in the offseason here and just kind
of where the team is tracking as an organization. I'm
saying Joe Burrow might be looking at this and saying, man,
I'm trying to compete. I want to be Jalen Hurts.
I want to be Patrick Mahomes winning championships, and I
need my teammates I need my great players. Rob brought,
(17:51):
you know, a great point that this is a mamma
pop shop and they might say, hey, the buck stops here.
We can't afford everybody. Bro eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox taking calls.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Yeah, all right, Tony in La. You're on the odd
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Tony?
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Hey, how you doing?
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Gentlemen?
Speaker 3 (18:06):
You know, of course they're going to alienate Joe Burrow.
But that's what Cincinnati is. That is just like you
said it, it's a mom and pop organization and it's
kind of the Steelers are kind of the same way.
It's a lot of organizations that ope at. But the
problem is you have to get and I don't want
to say lucky, but you got to draft a guy
(18:27):
and that guy has to be so great that he
covers up all the deficiencies. So, like you were talking about,
the Steelers end up getting Roethlisberger, you know, where they
go to three Super Bowls, win too. You know, you
can you can sometimes come into that and Joe Burrow
is paid like he's that type of quarterback.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
And you know what, let me say this, Joe Burrow
got them to the Super Bowl Remember that was one
and a half years he was in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
He did, but at the same time, you gotta understand
the great.
Speaker 6 (19:01):
Ones continue to do it.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
And so Joe Burrow is complaining. But he had all
the guys that he wants to keep. He had him
this year and.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Now tone now told you watched the games, you saw
the man would have seven hundred and ninety two yards
and seven touchdowns and still lose at the end.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Hey, look, but hold on, look, hook is what's going
on in Kansas City. Rues all his players on offense
and they still go to the Super Bowl. And that's
not because they got this great defense. Their defense is okay,
but that's because he covers up the mistakes.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Well that's, dear me, there's elemental element Yeah, good, good points.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
I think I understand what. I understand where he's coming from.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
But but this is Cincinnati and I'm not surprised.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
At it by it at all.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
And the other Roby will get better than like Joe
Burrow though, he's saying, you gotta sneak somebody in the draft,
like no, no, no, I mean that many more people
you can get better, Like, ah, there we go, you
got it.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
You gotta get lucky. Look at the Cowboys. Look at
the money they have? What? What? What they haven't? They've
been to a championship game in thirty years?
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Your hair? All players think about that. Listen, you ain't
gotta tell me about that. We're gonna talk about then
the cowboy. That's a whole conversation too. They're not They
may not be spending another season offseason, not spending any money.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
Eric in Austin, Texas, you're on the odd couple of
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
What's up? Eric?
Speaker 1 (20:29):
What's up?
Speaker 5 (20:30):
Kevin?
Speaker 6 (20:30):
You guys?
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Yo? What's up? Man doing? Guns?
Speaker 7 (20:33):
Okay, so I got a few Creick points to make.
First off, that last color stripping Joe Burrow made it
to the super Bowl. I'm for getting sacked nine times
in the anti Chips game.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
All right, stop it.
Speaker 7 (20:43):
Here's here's the real situation.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
You both are right.
Speaker 7 (20:46):
Rob is right in that this is Cincinnati's m o right,
their Mama pop shops. They don't pay guys. And here's
the reality situation. If I'm T Higgins, I'm not playing
another down for Cincinnatty. I'm trying to get traded age
that you clearly, don't value me how you buy everybody
else because the problem is they got to pay to
mart Tight. You know they're gonna payer Martin because they
don't pay the Marts. Then Joe Burrow is gone.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
No, I hear you.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
And the only problem is the system is set up
to work against the players. If you don't come in,
they find you, you lose money. It's it's a we're
gonna talk about this in al Yeah, it's a bad
It's a bad setup, and that's why players are powerless.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Drew in New Jersey, you're on the couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Drew?
Speaker 6 (21:31):
Hey, guys, I think that what the callers said before
will build like the Eagles. Eagles are primarily built through
the draft. They draft really well. Now, I don't think
if you go all in on offense. It hasn't worked
for them, right. So what I would do is I
and I thought they should have gotten rid of Tea
against last year. I would have traded t Higgainst, gotten
(21:54):
some drastick and literally build up their is terrible. That's
that's an understand The thing. He gets sacked more than
any quarterback in the LAGU, which is insane because he's
getting sacked like that and he's producing like that. That's
another story. I don't want to hear that Caleb Williams
stuff as he's getting sacked for not producing. Now, I
would go super heavy in the draft, and I would
(22:15):
go heavy on O line in d and then I
would try to get you probably not can get free
agencies because are cheap, So I take that back, So
just just do it all in the draft.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Then all right, hey man, appreciate the call.
Speaker 7 (22:25):
There.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
He's a national guy at say Today, but he worked
in Cincinnati and he knows the interworkings of what goes
on with Mike Brown and that family running that mom
and pop shop. There and are you, Tyler, surprised that
you know they're not going to pay everybody they Cincinnati
has always done.
Speaker 8 (23:18):
I mean, I'm not surprised, but I'm disappointed in the Bengals.
And I say that because the reason why the Bengals
weren't in the playoffs last season is because they lacked
the defense. Their defense can't stop anybody. They probably can't
stop me, you or Calvin just throwing the ball at anything.
So when I look at the Bengals, Cray Hendrickson was
(23:41):
their best defensive player and still is. And if you're
going to let him go, then who are you going
to have to replace him? Who's going to rush the passer?
Not only him, but Sam Hubbard just announced his retirement,
so you have two holes at defensive ends. And then
I mean you still have to pay also your wide receivers,
(24:06):
and you know with Jamar Chase and the t Higgins
they want deal. So you haven't even begun paying to
the players that you need to pay. And your best
all around defensive player has already asked out because you
refuse to pay him. So I just don't like it.
(24:26):
I think the Bengals are doing bad business and they're
working backwards, and Joe Burrow is going to not like
the fact that they're letting good players walk.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Yeah, And that was my point, and Rob had a
great point. You know, it's mom and pop, that's how
they do business. My whole thing was that's fine, but
you have a guy and Joe Burrow who is used
to know all he's known. I won in college one championship,
come to the league first year, two boom, I'm in
a super Bowl like I want. I'm that guy. I
want to be winning.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
I want to know where is it going Give me
another quarterback who walked out on the team because they
didn't sign on the guys.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
No, I mean Carson Palmer did it. And what two
decades ago with the Bengals.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
Now I'm not here, but I'm asking you there they
are making the money that Joe Burrow makes. Who's gonna say,
get me out of here. I'm just I just haven't
seen it. I know he's not happy with it, and
I get your point that he wants to play and whatnot.
And but but there's a cap. Patrick Mahomes, you want
fifty million dollars whatever and eat up most of the cap.
(25:32):
You can't have Tyreek Hill. You can't have this guy,
you can't have that guy. That's the Kansas City Chiefs.
Look at them, they can be people.
Speaker 8 (25:41):
Yeah, I do agree with you, but good teams figure
it out. Look at the Philadelphia Eagles. Galen Hurts is
making a lot of money, but they just paid Sakwon
Barkley a running back when a lot of people have
the value the running back position and they have two
receivers making twenty players, Zach Bond, I get it.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
They're willing to do it and extend themselves. But every owner,
and you know this in the NFL doesn't have the
same pocketbook. Everybody doesn't have money like that.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
You brought up the Lions earlier on. They pay all
their guys. You know, they got obviously a couple of
young ones coming up, but all their guys are making
their money. Go's making the money. I'm in Brown, Saint
Brown's making the money. Some defensive guys are making the money.
Like you know, there's ways around it. The banngos like
just don't have somebody else or to.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Go to company either money. I'm just saying, and even
they still they still lost money five years ago. I'll
give you the I'll send you the story the Lions
will wanted to send me l team to lose money
and I bought a Mustang from them and they still
lost money.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Switching gears Man Tyler Dragon again, our guests USA Today,
National NFL reporter. Uh, we can look at some of
the you know, deals or moves that aren't happening around this.
Speaker 6 (26:58):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
It seems like wide receivers being the big one. Guys
aren't getting paid or asking for trades. What are you
making right now of kind of this wide receiver thing
we're dk metcalf is asking out of there. You got
Ta Higgins not happy because he's getting franchise even though
he's getting twenty six, but it's not a long term deal.
And some other guys as well, receivers, are they being disrespected?
Some might even question is there a bubble happening where
(27:21):
it's bound to burst?
Speaker 8 (27:23):
Yeah. The wide receiver position is probably the most interesting
position entering free agency because the Wi VUT draft class
isn't considered strong nor deep, and so you have a
lot of receivers, adventure receivers who can make a tremendous
impact on teams that are available via free agency. Or
trades that headlines with Davante Adams and DK Metcalf, I'm
(27:47):
hearing that those two players want to go to a contender.
Davante Adams, I'm hearing, wants to play back in the
West Coast. He's from the Bay Area, so I can
see a team like the forty nine, a team like
the LA Chargers interested in them, or even maybe the
Rams after they probably are going to release Cooper Cup.
(28:08):
And the same goes with DK Metcalf. He wants to
play for a contender, but I'm hearing even the Chargers
are interested in him. He has is the receiver coast,
but he.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
Should tell them that they don't throw the ball. The
Chargers don't.
Speaker 8 (28:21):
Well, the receiver coast to coach DK Metcalf in Seattle
and now the Charges the coach. But yeah, the receiver
market is going to be very expensive, but they are
going to be teams that are going to be up
throwing a lot of money at those receivers. You mean
a CJ. Goden one as well. So, uh, it's probably
(28:43):
the most attractive position in free agency because there's a
lot of veteran talent there that can make an immediate
impact and start on a lot of teams in the past,
happy the NFL league.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
How about shadors Sanders and you know, during the whole
draft until we get there. Yeah, he's dropping, he's up,
he's down, he's this, he's dad. You know, people need
copy and content. Where do you see him going in
the draft?
Speaker 8 (29:09):
So I have him going to the New York Giants
at number three. And I heard in the combine that
he did interview pretty well. Now what did he interview
as good as cam Ward? Probably not cam Ward. When
I was in Indianapolis, I was sharing that he's the
surefire number one quarterback crosspect in the draft. But I
(29:30):
hate all the rumors that are coming out now about
shador Standers, how he didn't interview well, or he's hockey,
or he's arrogant, And what really good athlete isn't confident
or doesn't have some arrogance, and then that should not
be a knocking mipe. And he got to this level
because he believes in himself and his talent. And look
(29:51):
at his dad. His dad was arrogant and cocky, and
he's the best quarterback of all time. So I hate
that narrative that's going around. I think it's false. I
think it's fake news, and it would not surprise me
if he gets drafted within the top three picks the
NFL draft, and in mind he doesn't.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
If he drops, do you think it will be based
off of that and not his talent. If he does drop, I.
Speaker 8 (30:13):
Think he'll be based off as talent. Some teams believe
that he doesn't have like the explosive arm. He is
not the athlete that a cam Ward is. But when
you look at all the other quarterbacks in the draft class,
he's still the second best QB prospect in my opinion.
When he evaluates his arm, talent, his ability to process
(30:35):
defenses and throw with anticipations. He's the number two quarterback
in this year's draft.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
All right, well, we'll have to wait and see what
happens too, and his partner crime Travis Hunter, will see
where he goes as well. Every other day kind of
seems like, oh maybe he could be the number one.
We'll we have to wait and see track. Tyler Man,
thank you so much. We appreciate you joining us always.
Tyler's good brother.
Speaker 8 (30:56):
Of course, y'all have a good night.
Speaker 1 (30:58):

Speaker 4 (33:02):
And oh last night, as you are if you were
listening late to the program, happened before we even got
off the air. Pretty happy about that. I'm now sixty
and sixty one on the season, Very happy about that.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Here we go.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
I got Houston minus three and a half. That's the
best bet, taking.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
On the Pelicans in New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (33:23):
I got Atlanta minus one and a half. They're taking
on the Pacers in hot Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Late last few weeks they are, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
And I got the Knicks plus two and a half
here in La taking on the Lakers. The Knicks have
been playing what they lost their last game, but they
have been playing pretty well. And Anthony, I'll call Anthony
Towns is back for the Knicks tonight.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
So the Knicks plus two and a half, Atlanta.
Speaker 4 (33:50):
Minus one and a half, and Houston minus three and
a half. And remember, Calvin, what's that. I'm not telling
you who the bet on, I'm telling.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
You who I bet on.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
I'm actually shocked the Knicks are only getting to two
and a half, you said, just because just more so
on the Lakers, how well they've been playing, and the
Knicks kind of struggled against good teams. I don't know
what that's been where, you know, but we'll see. Still
there's still it's one of those weird having a good season.
It's kind of like, maybe I don't want to say
(34:22):
the Chiefs, but just like there's teams you're like, all
right on paper, they look good, but something is left
to be desired when you watch the Knicks this season.
It's one of those weird things. So, speaking of somebody
who loves the Knicks, loves New York, your buddy, your
grip friend, Steven A. Smith, tell us a little bit
about your boys, we congratulate some big moves for him.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
Well, he got a new contract with ESPN reportedly reportedly
five years, one hundred million dollars, makes him the third highest.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
I'm gonna give you the list of the eight highest sportscaster.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Jobs sports broadcasters in the business. Number eight at fifteen million,
Joe buck Shot, number seven at fifteen, Pat McAfee number
six at seventeen, Tony Romo number five at eighteen, Troy
(35:18):
Aikman number four at eighteen, steven A number three at
twenty twenty a season, a twenty a year for five years,
so five years, one hundred million, Charles Barkley twenty one
million a year from TNT.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
So TNT has two guys.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Yeah, I did get Chuck Man. I knew Chuck was
getting the bag.
Speaker 4 (35:37):
With Chuck, he hays even better like him, and the
football guys have even better.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
Steven A works all year.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Yeah, yeah, he's like they.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Worked seventeen weeks eight.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
You get a million dollars a million dollars a game
for Troy Aikman.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
Basically, yeah, I mean that, that's really what it boils
down to. But and number one, Tom Bradley will see
thirty ridiculous thirty seven and a half million dollars.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
To do football games.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
And you just said it for seventeen weeks to get
thirty seven and a half million dollars, which is outrageous.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
But I'm gonna say this about Stephen A.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
And you know, I congratulated him today, and you know
we're close and I know him since day one, and
we've been friends for a long time, and he deserves
every nickel he gets. He's one of the hardest working
guys in our business. He's at one point on every show.
He's the face of ESPN. And you like him, dislike him,
(36:36):
whatever you want to say. He moves the needle and
that's what television for. People think that television is dead.
I just look at steven A's contract. I look at
somebody's contract. I'm telling you television is not dead. Not
when it comes to two things, Kelvin and you know it, YEP,
live sporting events and national news. Those are the only
(36:57):
two things that moved need on television.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
So I'm happy for him, and he deserves it, and
I couldn't be I couldn't be happy.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
I hope I hope you said congrats and this and
Nobu or some big steakhouse on you hope you said that.
Uh No, he absolutely, You've known on a personal level,
you've seen the grind. Me as somebody who was in
college when he really started to, you know, emerge on
the national scene. I've seen it from Afar and as
(37:31):
somebody who knew I wanted to be in this space,
this news, entertainment, sports world, this media world. I am
always ecstatic when people do these types of things because
to me, number one, they deserve it. He's worked incredibly.
We all saw him right he was just he was
doing this thing Philadelphia choir. Uh you know, just popping
up the.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
New York Daily News covering high schools North Carolina.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
I could go on and on and everybody thinks he
showed up out of nowhere.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
No, no, no, you know the fool. I'm just saying
I saw him when they were you mass hated Alan
Iverson had a big game. We're gonna bring in this
Steven Ah Smith guy to talk, and I've seen him
work up from there. It's been awesome to see to
watch him. Afar been inspirational and again I told Rob
g this, whenever I hear these types of things I'm
always excited for the person, but I'm also excited for
the industry, right because to your point, it stills hope
(38:19):
that Hey, you never know the next person below, you know,
younger than me, younger than you, Kelvin Washington in five
years and somebody can say, yeah, right, man, you just
know where we say that real a few years ago. Right.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
I want to say this real quick because a lot
of younger viewers they don't remember when stephen A and
ESPN parted ways and they took him off NBA. He
worked his way back. Okay, he was not there the
whole time. It wasn't always pleasant. He worked his way
back and now he's the face of the network.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
That's a great salutary, big salute to him.
