k CAL and k CBS out here in La.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Out here in La.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
So it's great to see you know him, and the
students were mazed by his uh story, you know what
I mean. So great story, no doubt. All right, let's
welcome in the eye couple crew. We wouldn't be able
to do this fine radio program without him. Justin is
our producer filling in for Rob g. What's up Justin?

Speaker 3 (03:36):

Speaker 4 (03:45):
There you go, hey, Steve, Uh Saga, Patel Saga, the
media googles.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Saga and I had a bromance in New Orleans. Was
when something was going on underneath the table that I
didn't see.

Speaker 5 (03:57):
No, no, no, no, okay, that was the night you in
my you stole rob these bread that his hot cross buns?

Speaker 4 (04:03):
No, no, no cross bully.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Are they then? What was it there were? There was
a piece of bread. Now it's just a piece of Now,
it's just a piece of bread. No buns.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Dinner justin when you go to dinner that they give
you buns. Right, No buns were changed, that's right.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
No buns were exchanged. No shot to soccer though. Man,
we we hip hop and food. We were getting it in.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Yes, So saga is soccer? Make me look good?

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Now on the socials and of course on the ones
and twos.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
Married Mary, I ain't seen married in weeks. First thing,
she said, why you didn't get me coming? Why you
know my birthday? Dang, good to.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
See your man. Two weeks. Lord, No, I'm calling off Rod.
I said that I better give me the biggest birthday
present as well. I'm expecting nothing but great. When is
it next week? Yeah? Thursday? Alright, all right, happy, I
won't be here early birthday. You know he'll be here,
all right. Hey. The Lakers, Yeah, let's real quick.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
They're getting started against the Magic in Orlando.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Then need to bounce back from.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
That bad game when first came back, they got blew
out at home by the Bulls.

Speaker 5 (05:18):
I thought Michael Jordan and Scotti Pippen were playing for
the boothe yeah, yeah, Lron's first game bad seventeen, obviously
trying to get his legs back, just growing whatever.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Had a terrible game. He had.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
He had all those points, but seven turnovers. You can't
keep turning the ball over like that.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yeah, Lucas had a hit a string.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
I think he's had like twelve games now twenty points
or something. But you know, points don't always matter like
it's it's timing of points.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
It's when you fill up with a statue.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
You know who I used to call it you you
you feel me on that. I call it pointless points.
You remember Kevin Martin, He was the king of that
in the NBA. He would go to all these bad
teams year after year and just put up twenty five
a game. You like, dang, if you just looked at
the stats man, he's balling.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
That was That was Stafford in Detroit. That's why stat
Pavrick started. It's just my day.

Speaker 5 (06:03):
Say it just got back. You get what I'm saying.
I missed you and This is how we're starting to show.
This is how we're starting the show.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
I'm just saying, all right, hey, let's get to the
college basketball. Let's do it, all right, and let's start here.
So do we have the post game sound by Dan
Hurley from Yukon. So they lose, Yeah, and Dan Hurley
on his uh way out.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Had some thoughts.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
Yeah, yes, they lose by two to Florida, number one
seeded Florida seventy seven, seventy five.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
And on his way out is he talking to Baylor?

Speaker 4 (06:42):
All right, let's let's let's hear it. Okay, here here's
Dan Hurley from Yukon.

Speaker 6 (06:47):
A coach. That's why I was on the hot seat
going into twenty three. You got to ask Dave Bennett.
But until these men, you know, until Alex Cara been
put on the uniform.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
And the.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
Players changed your life and you have such special people, what.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Is all that? Okay? I get it. They won back
to back championships. They get knocked out.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
I gotta say this, Dan Hurley has to be the
most hated coach in college basketball. He has flipped the screen.
We get it, you won back to back championship. I
think it's gone to his head and he's been like, like,
what what has happened here? You got break it down
starting from there, you go. What was it in Hawaii

(07:37):
when they kicked off the scene. They lost back to
back games, and I never want to come back here,
like he destroyed, destroyed the place, as if they had
anything to do with him losing. Then there was another
game this year where they played and he was taunting
the crowd and pointing to two fingers like we won

(07:58):
two wings or whatever. And then here in a game
that was closed, but they missed free throws and they
didn't get our offensive rebounds when they needed them, and
they blame he blamed the officials for losing the game
against Florida. And the more you see him, and this
is the guy who the Lakers offered the job too.

(08:18):
They offered JJ Reddick's job to this guy, and I
don't know if his ego went through the roof because
of that. He was courted by one of his most
story franchises in the NBA and offered a ton of money.
And then he went back to Yukon to be the
god there, and now he's beyond reproach.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
I mean, I don't get it. But he's unlikable. He's
just unlikable.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
You can't be that big of a cry baby every
time something doesn't go your way, and it's become like
he's a saw loser. You want back to back championships.
Do you know how many other coaches had to console
their kids and deal with the you know what I mean,
losing in big moments or big spots. Have class. It's okay,

(09:03):
Dan Hurley, do you expect to win the NCAA Championship
every year?

Speaker 6 (09:07):
Well?

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Also too, don't forget.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
He was walking out to the tunnel and the guy
you know, was yelling at somebody said, I.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
You know, we had good luck to you.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
Don't hopefully you don't get blanked over like I did.
And just they blanked us, Yeah, they blanked us.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
And just continually having these moments where you're like, hey man,
so I look at it a couple of ways.

Speaker 5 (09:23):
You don't want life lesson. I've learned and I'm continuing
to learn because you always have to be constantly learning.
But somebody says something once Rob that I thought was
really great because I get it now that I'm oted.
They said, what's your love for that special thing? Can
also end up being your kryptonite. And I'll give you
an example. Everybody has that friend, wild Wildfred. Right, Oh, man,

(09:44):
hanging out with Fred. Why you like hanging out with Fred?
Because Fred is wild? You never know what you're gonna
get into. And it's all fun, right for the first
couple of years. Then I see you and I say, hey,
you still hanging with wild Fred?

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Na, why not?

Speaker 5 (09:56):
He's too wild for me. Man, I can't hang with him. Man,
I'm always in trouble. Lee just too much. He's too wild.
You loved him because he was wild and it was
fun and it was crazy nights. Then you got older
and you mature. And I say that to say the
passion that Dan Hurley has, the all night paying attention
watching film, you know, running on high all the time.
It's great when you're winning, right, you're looking at it.

(10:18):
We're winning, we're having success, and people look at it
as well. Rob passionate. There he goes Tom Brady yelling
at people on the sideline. That's passion. There you go, man,
look at him, he's passionate. If Tom Brady was two
and twelve yell at everybody, he's a diva. He's a
bad guy. What a horrible believer.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
And that's the way people get it. But I'm in
the Dan Hurley case and I have it. When he
was walking off in the tunnel quote, I hope he's
talking to Baylor. I hope they don't blank you like
they blanked us Bailor.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
I really hope they don't. And you know, people could
hear it.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
It wasn't like he was talking to somebody privately or
whatever's on his way to the tunnel. And that just
the attitude does a coach need to Really, I don't
care what the fans.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
It's college basketball.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
You're gonna let the kids in college basketball get under
your skin. You won two national championships. I would like
to see and I haven't seen it. If I'm wrong,
somebody could tell me another college coach who's one championship,
who's pointing to his fingers, like, like.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
We won two championship. You see these two rings.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
Seriously, that's tacky. It's classless. Everybody knows you won back
to back championship.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
And again, it works out well because he was winning early,
right He's meaning he's only been coaching out for a
himful of years at Yukon, and he's won and had
he was going for his third straight if had he
won this year. So it's cute and it works. When
you're winning, he's passionate. Look, and he's firing his team up.
When you start losing, you start getting exposed. We start
to see your true character, right, and his true character

(11:55):
is coming out. He's like the kid on the basketball
court who loses the game, wants to take his ball,
kicks his ball out past the fence.

Speaker 6 (12:02):
You know.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
He because I'm mad, I'm losing. You filed me and
that's starting to show. So to me, I'm looking forward
to him using this as an opportunity to grow mature.
Because also, by the way, and we talked about this before,
you're supposed to be a leader of young men. Yes,
And I'm not saying you can't be passionate and be
upset and ticked off. That's a part of life, but
you can't be at every time. And this is your reaction, right.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
The hell with Hawaii. We don't want to ever be.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
Here right really, and and every now and again, I'm
gonna need you to hit you with some Michael Jackson,
I'm gonna need you to look at the man in
the mirror because it can't be all gravy when you're
winning and leading the kids and then you're losing it.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
It's the refs and it's.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
The other team, the fans and the crowd and all
this other stuff. Why for somebody who's won that much,
you get me just one thing? You would you're ready,
like you've bet a lot, and and you how long
time been coaching since Moby Dick was a guppy.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
He got one championship that heurly already got to.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
And that twenty five Tom hasn't won it twenty five years.
I'm just saying, you can't be a soort. It's a
loser's mentality, losers behavior, and it's it's unbecoming. I don't
know how anybody could want to root for him or
you come seriously.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
I think the person the people are looking at it
as he's just passionate, he's all in. He cares you
can have a time with that and want that around.
And I think, to me, he's gonna have to learn
the lesson. And this is this lesson. I was saying,
JJ redd is gonna have to learn you can't burn
so hot twenty four to seven. If JJ wants to
coach for another fifteen twenty twenty five years.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
He's gotta find it. Ain't gonna happen, right, You'll be burnt.

Speaker 5 (13:37):
Out, having hard I'm serious, Urban Meyer, having health issues.
You gotta find that dances, lap dances and heart attacks.
That's not like a crazy album. So you gotta find that,
you know what I mean. Look, you can't we gotta
ride to even Keell. You can't go up and all
the way down all the time. So you gotta find
that even kill and he's gonna have to find it.
He's gonna burn out, dude, He's gonna burn out.

Speaker 4 (13:59):
Right, seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Where are you Dan Hurley? Passionate or a loser? I mean, well,
what you gotta fall in one of them? You cool
with his behavior?

Speaker 4 (14:15):
Every time he loses, he flies off the handle, or
so it seems. And he went after the refs after
losing yesterday to number one Florida by two points. Uh,
he didn't mention the free throws missed or grabbing an
offensive rebound. Are you cool with it or not? It
is the odd couple On a Magic City Monday, Rob

Speaker 5 (16:07):
Yeah, and most recent one after the game the lost
to Florida, he said, I hope they don't blank you
over like they blanked us over Baylor. So eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox passionate or doing too much?

Speaker 4 (16:18):
That's right, Reese and Lexington, Kentucky. You're on the couple
of Fox Sports Radio on a Magic City Monday. What's up, buddy?

Speaker 7 (16:25):
What's up?

Speaker 8 (16:26):
Guys?

Speaker 6 (16:26):
Yo?

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Yo?

Speaker 9 (16:28):
Oh man, I can't believe.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
What Reese. I can't believe it either.

Speaker 9 (16:35):
Late tournament.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
Over You're falling out for five seconds.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
Yeah, gotta have Reese go go oh yeah.

Speaker 7 (16:45):
Fuck he's gonna walk out and yell at another team
and cuff like he did and blame it on the
rist man.

Speaker 9 (16:53):
He's like a little league coach fighting with the parents
or something like that. The way he's acted, I mean,
that's re that's an embarrassment to the Yukon University and
his teammates.

Speaker 10 (17:04):
You know, he should have went out with a little
bit of you know, honor.

Speaker 7 (17:07):
You know, some class.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
He lose with class. That's right.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
Every time you lose, that means you were screwed over.
Just say, every time you lose. Can't be that right.
It can't be always.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
I always lose. This happened just.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
And it was the number one school. It wasn't like
you're playing sixteen and you lost and they would call him.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
And it was a competitive game. I understand he's frustrated,
but every time you lose, somebody.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
Fuck Marcus in Alabama. You're under they couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Marcus.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
I'm good man.

Speaker 9 (17:37):
I appreciate you taking a call.

Speaker 8 (17:38):
Man, Yes, sir, Yeah, dude, just doing too much, man,
I think, uh, you know, history is the best teacher.
I remember Fab and Knight used to do a lot
of stuff throw chairs on the floor while he was winning, right,
but when he started losing, they can't say Indiana said, hey,
it's time to go.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Man, no doubt. You don't need to do all that.
It's okay.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Nobody expects you to win every year. Okay, I'm sorry.
So it happens. Uh, you missed some free throws, you
didn't get some offensive rebounds.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
It happens. Thanks markets for the call.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
Kenny in California, you're in the yard couple of Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
What's up?

Speaker 10 (18:14):
Ken?

Speaker 3 (18:16):
How are you?

Speaker 8 (18:18):
Oh?

Speaker 10 (18:18):
Man? Hey? No, not only was I loved him when
Rick kicked up Bunk got him and Saint Johnson's out.
You know when this guy started him crying like a baby.
All I can do is want to give him his
bottle and give him some Johnson and Johnson baby powder.
I loved it.

Speaker 7 (18:38):
He's a.

Speaker 5 (18:41):
Doubt. Can't appreciate it's still early, Kenny. Don't still want
to yell at you at some point? Yeah, nod my side,
thank you, No, you didn't, Kenny.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Mike in Texas, you're in the yard couple of Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
What you got?

Speaker 4 (18:54):
We know that Dan Hurley is a hell of a coach.
He's won back to back championship.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
Right, I'm glad. I'm glad you said that you could
coach or not. But Mike, is he acting like a
baby or what?

Speaker 7 (19:06):
Yes, sir, I think he was. What's up, fellows and
enjoy the show, Mike. He's got to show maturity. You
know that there's a good to bed and they're going
to come with every job. He's got to be able
to what's saying. He wouldn't have lasted with the Lakers.
You know what, I man, he's got immature But see
they put those a lot of these coaches up on
such a high post. When that kind of breaks and
fall on, can you handle it? But you got to

(19:27):
show maturity and you gotta show class. They say had
a university like that, they need to site them down
and tell him that, Hey, as long as you win
and things are fad, but when you don't win, you
still got to hold the integrity of our university.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
You're the face of this decade potentially.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
Yep, you represent Thank you for the call, Mike. Uh
You represent the university all times, and there's a there's
a time when things you get jobs and you want
to be mad and blossome steam but it can't be
all the time.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
It can't be.

Speaker 5 (19:58):
Listen, part of the job as a ca is to
go at the refs is to say we were you know,
we were messed up. I'm not saying that doesn't that's
a part of the game, but it just can't.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
Be every time, every single time.

Speaker 5 (20:09):
And you guys lost a lot of players, and I
understand the expectations were there and you didn't get you know.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Can you imagine saying you don't want to come to
Hawaii anymore?

Speaker 5 (20:16):
That's seriously, I'm trying to go to Wabi and believed.
But you know, yea, Hawaii's beautiful. You've been thirty two times.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
I love Hawaii. Yeah, look at the faith, Look at
the join in your face? What no good time? I think?

Speaker 8 (20:25):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (20:25):
I love the Waifi and I you know, I saved
up all my marriout points so we had a room
on the beach.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
I honestly need the I need, I need.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
I already have to hear you every day in my
life now, but I still need to hear you specifically
in one topic. You know, how you get the You
see me sit here and every day next to you
want a little coffee from this place. Do you know,
I still haven't had the reward points yet after all
these to get better at that.

Speaker 4 (20:50):
And I'm gonna tell you, I need to put together
a manual, a book for people. I'm gonna write this.
I'm not even curious I should. I should write that
is manual and tell people on all these things you
should do seriously, because what I did when I started
as a sports writer, I didn't use any of my
Marrioup points a mile. So when we got married, we

(21:12):
went to Hawaii in Japan's flew first class had a
suite on the beach in Hawaii from my Marriott points.
We stayed in the Newatani Hotel in downtown Tokyo. The
hotel this is nineteen ninety seven, five hundred dollars a night.
That was twenty five years nineteen ninety seven, twenty two
d exactly. That was five hundred dollars a night. That

(21:32):
was a lot of nineteen ninety seven. We stayed there
for a week for free. Like that's what I'm trying
to tell you, No.

Speaker 5 (21:38):
You do you you need to do this. I'll tell
you when we go to break I'll tell you the
secret to him.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
I definitely need to write up manual. It's an easy
way to write it, Bob Parker Life Manual.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
You know, you know I've had the interview at these
authors on the news.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Yes, there's an easy formula. All right. Well, last share
that moment with the moment.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
We got Rashad Phillips aka Yoda, basketball player from University Detroit.
Now in analyt, gonna break down some of what we
saw here in just a little bit. Right now, we
got to get you ready for what's trendy with Steve
the Sacre.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Hey, Steve, stay there and Rob.

Speaker 11 (22:08):
Is that going to be one of your future podcasts?

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Yes, so we'll make it a podcast too.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
Is that a simulcast? Who it'll be on tea? It'll
be recorded, video, audio, everything.

Speaker 11 (22:16):
Well, Steve, our slow trickle of info on Twitter. It's
just a little bit every afternoon tips.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
Well, Steve, I want you to make sure you subscribe
to my new baseball YouTube podcasts, Inside the Park, of
which debuts.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
On Friday's a good name still by the way, inside
the Park.

Speaker 11 (22:38):
Speaking of baseball, we got opening day for most teams
on Thursday. Dodgers and Cubs reach back from Japan playing excell.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
I'll be there. They played the Tigers, I know, man, which.

Speaker 11 (22:47):
Means the best picture in the American League is pitching
at Dodger Stadio.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
So you're off Trek Scouble Schooble, You're off. No, no,
I'm working, but I'm going. You're just gonna go to
early a little bit. I'll be there earlier, unbelievable year.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
And then of course it all came undone in that
playoff game against Right.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
I mean, he pitched great the whole way and they
had that one.

Speaker 5 (23:05):
Inning, which what's happened, But you would still keep him.
You wouldn't Sam darnold him. No, no, no, no, I mean nobody.

Speaker 4 (23:15):
When the Tigers were talking about trading him, do you
remember that during the when they were I was like,
absolute stupid. There's no way, he's so good. You gotta
have a guy like that at the top year rotager.
And they didn't trade him.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
Thank god.

Speaker 11 (23:27):
You could have two guys on your roster that couldn't
replace what he can do. He's so good, not just
in one season. And by the way, if you heard
the update on the health of Dodger short style Mookie
bats last night, not good because he was sick before
the team ever went went to Japan.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
And he got on a plane thinking he would get.

Speaker 11 (23:45):
Better, longest plane ride of his life there and back.
Remember he got sent home early.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
And and the thing is, when I look at the
video Steve and Kelvin, you could see he's lost twenty
so he looks thinner.

Speaker 11 (23:57):
He said he was one seventy five when he started
spring training and one fifty now.

Speaker 5 (24:01):
He has he and if you've ever seen, there's no weight.
He's probably three percent body fat. I'm not even funny.

Speaker 11 (24:07):
And he's like five ten already. Yes, it's amazing that
he hits home runs in the first place. Now they're
asking him to play shortstop, not outfield. I just didn't
see any way, looking at that interview last night, that
he was going to be playing opening day on that.

Speaker 4 (24:20):
I'm with you now, if this was Max Munthsy, twenty
pounds wouldn't be that bad.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Wasn't even notice. I don't know if you guys have
noticed I've lost twenty. We didn't see it. Max.

Speaker 11 (24:29):
So they started a three game exhibition series against the
Angels last night.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
He was out.

Speaker 11 (24:34):
Manager Dave Roberts has just said Mookie Batts went through
a full workout today at Dodger Stadium, and more importantly,
was able to keep some solid food down, which is
a big change to his last week or two. He's
scheduled to play tomorrow's exhibition finale and if that goes well,
should be in the lineup for the Thursday home opener.
So we got some ifs, but amazingly we do have

(24:57):
a little bit better news than we got last night
when he was a late scratch to the NBA. We've
got eight games on this late tonight, including the Lakers
leading twenty four to twenty one at Orlando late in
the first quarter for the Lakers Luka Donsich with eleven points.
So far, the Wizards have a record of fifteen and
fifty five. They are leading late first quarter against the
Raptors twenty one to sixteen. In women's college hoops, they

(25:21):
have started the second overtime of the second round NCAA
Tournament game at Maryland Terp's early second ot leading ninety
nine ninety six against Alabama LSU at home, was only
up one at the half, now leads eighty one fifty
five over Florida State at the end of three. Needless
to say, many more blowouts on the women's hoops scheduled today,

(25:42):
including dominant wins for NC State, Oklahoma and Texas. Texas
men's basketball has an agreement with Xavier coach Sean Miller
to take over for the fired Rodney Terry Beck to you.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Ye, Steve Segur, thank you brother. We appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (25:55):
Coming to you love from theti iraq dot com studios.
It is iyakable Rob Parker, Washington on a Magic City Monday,
and we're joined now by Rashaan Phillips, of course basketball
analysts as well as former player at University Detroit where
I used to watch him.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
You did too, Robert.

Speaker 4 (26:13):
I come for him when he was in college along
teams up all the time with what's up.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Buddy, how y'all doing?

Speaker 9 (26:21):
Fellas? I appreciate you guys doing great.

Speaker 4 (26:24):
Man, you.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
Get hit me what you got. I put them on
TV on Channel seven as a basketball analyst, right he did.

Speaker 9 (26:34):
The first person, first person gave me my shot on
TV was Rob Parker, and he coached me up really well,
got me prepared for it. And anytime I go on
TV or go on radio, I always give kudos to
my o G. Rob Parker for that.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
Listen, man, I like to tease Rob a lot. But
that's one thing I always tell him. He knows this.
He has a lineage of folks he has helped out,
for sure, and showing so I like as much as
you know, I like to mess with him.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
That's one thing I'll give him credit for for sure. Well, Sear,
we just were talking about Dan Hurley.

Speaker 4 (27:07):
He's a great coach, back to back championships, we get
all that, But it can't be everybody's fault every time
you lose.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
He comes off like a loser or a cry baby.

Speaker 4 (27:16):
A coach has to be careful not to that every
time you lose is somebody else's fault.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
That's not a great message for kids.

Speaker 6 (27:24):
Is it.

Speaker 9 (27:25):
No, it's not. You know, I think a lot of times,
you know, and you look at the Hurley family in general,
like they come from a lineage of of tough nose
basketball player. You know, they from you know, they're from
New Jersey. You know, they they kind of you know,
they've been in the trenches, you know, when it comes
to the basketball and stuff like that. So they they're

(27:47):
they're very very competitive. But you know what, there's a
difference between There's a thin line between being very competitive
and being a sore loser. And I think sometimes sometimes
he crosses it just a little bit, you know. And
in the social media space that we're in now, everything

(28:10):
is on film, everything is everybody has their cameras out,
everybody has their phones out. So these type of antics
would not wouldn't be seen twenty thirty years ago because
there was no social media. But now everybody has a
camera in their hand. Everybody has a miniature camera in
their hands, so they catch every little thing. So we

(28:31):
have to cut them a little slack with that. Soon
as he gets rolled up, people pick up their phones.
And I think he's also entertaining because he know he's
on film as well, you know. So it's both to me.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
Sean Phillips, our guests, Rob let me ask you this
when we look at these teams, I joke, but it's
also some truth to man.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
Some of these kids look like.

Speaker 5 (28:52):
They went to high school with me, you know, And
I went to high school long, long time ago.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
And what do you make of if you know you're coaching?

Speaker 5 (29:01):
You are coach, but you know, if you're coaching one
of these teams, how your ability to go get players
out of the blue? You don't have to, oh, it's
going to take us two three years of rebuild. You
can go get that twenty three year old who's that
Wichita State, you know, who's been playing for years, and
get him, and go get a couple other guys like
that and start your team. Is this better for college
basketball or is it just where we are right now?

Speaker 3 (29:20):
Not better or worse.

Speaker 9 (29:22):
Yeah, I don't think it's better or worse. I think
that's just what we're dealing with and you have to adapt.
And when you look at college basketball now, I think
that it's kind of turning into a little bit of
the European model. That's as opposed to, you know, creating,
having older players stay longer, being able to nurture those

(29:45):
players a little longer. And now with money being involved,
guys are not so quick to try to jump into
the NBA because college sports has become a job. It's
a job now. Twenty years ago it was a job,
but you didn't get paid like it was a job.
He was more right, right, So I feel like, yeah,

(30:10):
you're still a student athlete, but now you have to
add another slash to it. So it's student slash athlete
slash job. That's what it is. Now, so guys are
getting paid, they're staying longer, and in order to win,
you got to have upperclassmen, so no doubt.

Speaker 4 (30:29):
Hey, there was a story that broke at Michigan with
Scottie Pippen's son justin just two days right after the
Sweet sixteen birth. I'm out he entered the transfer portal
and he will not be playing against Auburn, and I
guess he's done with Michigan.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
What do you make of that?

Speaker 4 (30:49):
With the transfer portal, didn't even wait till the season
was over, but he's not playing, so I guess he
decided he wasn't going to be a part of it anyway.

Speaker 9 (30:58):
Yeah, I mean okay with the transfer portal, I think
it needs some tweaking. I think the transfer portal should
not open up until literally after the national weird time. Yeah,
I think it just needs I mean, I actually enjoy
the free agency. We love free agency with MLB, we

(31:20):
love free agency with NFL, we love it with NBA.
Why don't we love it in college? I just think
it needs to be tweaked a little bit. Uh, College
free agency is I'm okay with that. I think kids
should have the opportunity to applyd better work.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
I agree with that coaches doing all the time, Daniel,
I never leave it here. I will be by your side.
Get on the bot of here real quick. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (31:49):
Yeah. So I think that if the coaches have the
ability to find a better job, why can't the kids
find a better job as well. So I just think
that the rules need to be pushed back the like
the transfer portal opened up today. Today is the first
day that opened up. But I feel like if it's

(32:10):
pushed back to you know, the first week of April,
where you get every team equal opportunity to participate in
free agency, then that's what I would like to see.
So to answer your question about pipping, I don't think
it's the right time to jump in a portal when
your team is still playing.

Speaker 5 (32:32):
Yeah, it does seem it just yeah, because it's to
our whole point of like it's not as fall per say,
he's trying to get out early so we can get signed.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Go somewhere else.

Speaker 5 (32:40):
Yeah, you know, but it just looks bad like you're
ditching the team, and now maybe looks like all that
would he do that to us?

Speaker 3 (32:46):
You know, if you're the one who would sign him,
is he going to just leave us like that, all right,
real quick.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
With Sea, we got to bounce out of here. Who
do you have in the championship game? Who'd you have picked?

Speaker 9 (32:55):
I picked Florida to win it all? Okay, I think
I think Florida wins it all because I feel like
in order to win the National Championship, you got to
do two things. You gotta be able to play defense.
You got to be at a rebound. And the additional
bonus things you've got to be able to do is
score big points and you have to have death. I

(33:17):
feel like when you look at the Florida Gators, they
check all of those boxes. So I picked them to
win it all.

Speaker 5 (33:23):
All right, We will see how right he is. He's
usually right about most things. Rashan, thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
Man. We appreciate you, appreciate you.

Speaker 9 (33:30):
Appreciate you. Guys, Thank you so much. Talk soon, all right?

Speaker 5 (33:32):
What the heck is going on with Mookie? We were
just talking about that with Steve. We'll continue that conversation
and Force. We got to get Shekel City in there
and see how Rob did. It's the odd couple. Rob

Speaker 5 (34:30):
All right, it is time now for Checho City defeat
the Eyes to dude.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
Alright, on Friday, I was one and two. That's seventy
five and seventy six.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
Okay, all right, yeah he bounce back. Here we go tonight.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
I'm gonna take the Sacramento Kings plus three in a hand,
gotta be plus at home.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
Against the Boston Celtics, but only plus three and a half.

Speaker 5 (34:56):
And they like somebody out somebody You already know that
Tatum or Jaylen Brown out something.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Zach, Remember the Kings plus three and a half. Also,
I'm gonna take the Phoenix Suns host of Milwaukee. I'm
gonna take the Suns minus three and a half. Really
at home, yep, taking on the Bucks. And then my
best bet Denver minus two and a half taking on
the Chicago Bulls. That's in Denver. So i'm gonna take
the McNuggets with some honey mustard sauce. Yeah, plus the

(35:22):
Bulls with that big win over the Lake. They gotta relax, exactly,
they'll come back down to earth. So Denver minus two
and a half, the Sons minus three and a half,
and Sacramento plus three and a half. And remember, I'm
not telling you who to bet on. I'm telling you
who I bet on.

Speaker 5 (35:37):
All right, there you have it, man. We were just
talking about a little bit with Steve earlier. Just obviously
the Dodgers coming in has the favorites to win and
repeat first time in twenty five years.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
We talked about that since the.

Speaker 5 (35:48):
Yankees one key cog in that would be Mookie Bets
and this weird mysterious illness that they can't diagnose.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
They don't know what's going on. At first, I thought
he ate something in Japan. But but Steve said that
he was sick prior to days before they left. Yeah,
and then that long flight to Toke that didn't not help.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
I could imagine.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
I know he must have been because to not be
able to eat solid food. Just recently, I guess they said,
just he's now starting to hold down some food.

Speaker 5 (36:16):
And what's if you know anything about him, he's just
like a lot of insanely great athletes, ridiculously meticulous with
all that, like the eating and what I eat, where
I eat, how I eat. Dude, we did a whole
thing on him. He brings his own pots and pans
and things so he can cook on the road. Dude,
did you hear I just said the man is worth

(36:36):
you know, then signed a few hundred million dollars. You
think he all gotta chef the travels or I do this,
or oh I just we got some good food in
the hotel.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
We stay in five star hotel.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
No, he brings his all home pots and pans on
the road so he can then, you know, cook what
he's supposed to eat, only make the proper thing. So
for a guy like that, you know, and then the
mess around to lose twenty twenty two to three pounds.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
It's just it's scared.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
And I was listening to one of the interviews and
he said that, you know the doctors that said his
blood work was fine, So that's that was good to
hear that. Still, not to be able to hold down
food can't be that great. And and then I guess
we'll find out more. But I'll say this, he doesn't
need to rush back. We'll started seeing. The Dodgers are

(37:20):
already too, and all remember they won the two games
in Japan against the Cubs. And if he's not up
to it to get the guy held, you got a
long role. Remember, if you're expecting and you're the Dodgers
and you're expecting to repeat, you're gonna be playing until November.
So there's no reason to rush him back if he's not.
And again, he's playing, it's not like you can hang
out in right field playing short stuff.

Speaker 5 (37:42):
And he and he was disappointed in his performance some
last year too, so he's been talking about how much
he wants to get better, wants to improve.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
That's not an easy position.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
They're not too many guys who are on the Hall
of Fame track who changed positions.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Like right exactly.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
I mean I remember Robin Youll, who is a Hall
of Famer, he went from shortstop to center field. That's
usually what they do, and that's they put you out
there activity exactly. It's not the other way around most
not too many people, Yeah to third.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
He moved from shortstop to third. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (38:14):
But but yeah, so Mookie to do that and then
not only like it was to your point, it wasn't
hey for a week or two somebody's out just covered
to now make it a full time thing.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
So you know he wants to improve in that.

Speaker 5 (38:25):
Yet the good thing too, I was we were talking
about this earlier, Dustin and I.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
The Dodgers, if they two things that if they don't.

Speaker 5 (38:31):
Do anything else will well their farm system clearly, and
then also their depth, like they've covered the tracks for
the last you know, six seven, eight years of all right,
if this guy goes out boom, he's in. This guy
goes out boom, we got this going on. Uh, And
so they've always had some good depth so they can
sit Mooky. I mean, dude, you lead off with showhy

(38:52):
that's just crazy. Already sounds absurd, but MOOKI definitely has
to get right because he's a key part of this
and he and he kind of redeemed himself. We talked
about two years ago he and Freddy Freeman struggled in
the postseason. I believe it was two years ago, and
so him and able to have some big moments. His
past postseason was really good for him, obviously Freddy as well.
Freddy ended up being the biggest story. But for Moki

(39:14):
to kind of come back, bounce back this pass offseason,
our postseason was good for him. So yeah, hoping that
it's best for him, But that's frustrating when you don't
know what's going on.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
You're doing your due diligence.

Speaker 5 (39:23):
You know, they have the best doctors money can get,
and for them to not have an answer has to
be a little bit frustrating.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
But yeah, no rush On, no, absolutely no. Obviously he wants.

Speaker 4 (39:33):
To play opening day, everybody does, you know what I mean,
But if you're not well, not one hundred percent, take
your time, there's no rush I just didn't like seeing
him looking that thin.

Speaker 5 (39:42):
Yeah, I mean, dude, he is in ridiculous shape. Like
if you you know, it doesn't even make any sense. Like,
and so for that guy to lose twenties like I
think Russell Westbrook. If Russell Westbrook lost twenty pounds, you'd
be like whoa.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
And the quote my body feels like it's just kind
of eating itself. I mean, think about that.

Speaker 5 (39:59):
Why I want that for me, though not in not
in a sick way, just in the I'm eating this fact.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
I would love for this to be the case. I'm
doing better though, by the way,
