On from San Diego State, number seventy four, from Salamorrow,
the former NFL offensive lineman and of course Fox Sports
Radio Weekend hosts Ephram.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (02:40):
I'm good man, and I want to apologize for my voice.
First off, it's basketball season, youth basketball, so you're yelling
as a coach.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
Oh my god, last night.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
If we got some time, I like to break this
game down for you last night.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
So I'm coaching. I coached my sons. I coached about three.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Teams, sons on all of them. His elementary school team,
his all star team, and then his travel team.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Yeah and yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
So you know I sound like this because I don't
like to say yelling at nine and ten year olds.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
I say loudly encouraging them.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Right, defense, sit down, watch the screen, box out the
whole nine yards.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
And we had a heck of a semi final game
last night.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Okay, so I'm assuming you won.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
We did win.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Okay, very good. Congratulations, Mazel top. That's awesome. So you
go to the next round championship tomorrow. Wow, what time
is that?

Speaker 5 (03:43):
That's beautiful? Good man.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
I coached little league in New York, the same little
league that I played in when I.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Was a kid. It's a beautiful thing, it is, and
it was awesome.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
And I remember we got shelac one day and you know,
you get the kids off the field, I'm like huffing
and puffing, Man, did you guys have fun?

Speaker 3 (04:02):
There was this good? You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (04:04):
You got lost by twelve or fourteen runs or whatever.
You know, I'm doing all that and Demetrius I'll never
forget him. He's our little catcher. It's the smallest guy
on the team catchers, tough guy. He looks up at me,
big brown eyes, bats him with the eyelashes, you know, like, yeah, coach,
we had fun today.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Let's get in the car on ice cream. Was it
was a rap, it was a round. I'm like, okay,
I got you. Let's welcome to the Odd Couple crew today.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Because we wouldn't be able to do this fine radio
program without him. Ryan is our producer. Steve the Saga
is at the anchor desk. He'll keep us updated throughout
the program. Saga is our social media specialists, so he

(04:53):
as well on this program and on the ones and twos.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
All right, let's go from your guy who's.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
So busy worried about analysts on television that he can't
close out gat Like, I'm just gonna say this. When
that nonsense and distraction about Stephen a is bad. Is
when we see a game like last night, when you're
worried about something that has nothing to do with your life,

(05:23):
your legacy, your career, and why are you doing what
you're doing with Steven A.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
Smith.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
It makes no sense.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Last night, you notice from when I was covering in
the New Jersey Nets. Yes, when they were in New Jersey,
Bill Fitch was the coach. I'll never forget, you know what.
I sat right by the bench. I used to hear
all the you know, all the stuff. I mean, it
was a great seat. David Stern did this. The writers
used to be up top. When he became commissioner. They
brought us all down so we could take in the

(05:54):
game and write better about it, like the interplay and
the talk and all that. And yeah, it was really smart,
it really was. We're up in the rafters and he
brought us down. I saw so many things and heard
so many things. And Bill fitzchits always say no, maybe passes,
Maybe it'll get there, maybe it won't. And I'll never

(06:14):
forget that saying yesterday, you know what I'm saying, Yeah,
maybe maybe. And Lebron they first of all were there
by nine ten seconds.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
Ago, thirteen seconds unbelievable, unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
And he makes the laziest maybe past I have seen.
That was the ball game. All he has to do
is inbound the pass. You can't have a lazy entry.
He also did the three deck was over him. I mean,
it was just a bad comedy of errors in the
final ten thirteen seconds, whatever it was.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
But here's my thing. People are bad games. He from.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
You watch the Lakers every night, you're a Laker fan
every night. Lucky to win the game against the Pacers.
Like every game you have Luca and Lebron. Every game
is a nail bier. Every double digit lead you're having
a fourth quarter disappears. You can't feel good about it,
but Lebron cannot. I'm sorry. You can't be disdistracted and

(07:18):
not playing when you're playing well.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
You from whatever.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
You can do, whatever you want, whatever you want.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
They not playing well is just the time you want
to have such a distraction and have this ongoing battle.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
I from. You've been in this business for a long time,
since you retired.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
The media isn't going anywhere, and you're not gonna win
that battle.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
I don't care who you're not.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
Yet because now social media makes it a little bit different.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
But before.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
The guy, the media guy had the advantage because he
can talk every day all day.

Speaker 5 (07:54):
You got another job.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Our career two is forty five years, yeah twelve, we're thirteen,
and so players would come to the city. I've been
working here and I'm still gonna be working here after
you're gone.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Claim And what.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
I don't like.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
The spectacle that's going on when you're on the cusp
of heading into the playoffs, trying to find the dynamics
between the new team.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
You're not there yet. You're not a well oiled machine.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
They're not even close. Obviously.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Now you have long stretches where you were doing things
extremely well. But limping into the playoffs and quite possibly
falling into the play in is a disaster for the Lakers.
You want to be solidified, you want to be in
those top four seeds so you can spend the first

(08:54):
round at home with home court advantage. And the way
they're playing, they have the second toughest schedule going down
the stretch, and the way they're playing now as a
Laker fan and as a basketball fan has me scratching
my head.

Speaker 5 (09:09):
They're lazy.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
The attention to detail is not there. That's where all
the turnovers come from, and those maybe passes, that's attention
to detail. I just had that. That's why my voice
is like this. I just spent a whole practice on Wednesday, hammering, hammering,
in the hammering home attention to detail. If you're gonna

(09:36):
go set a screen, set a screen on the actual defender,
if we're in the trap and the press cut the
sideline off. If you can't do those things, then what
are you doing? And that's what I'm saying for the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Yeah, it's bad.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
And again, as I was saying to you, Lebron has
a tip it against the paint, like like that game
is another that you could have lost, easily lost that,
Am I right? Like this is where they are coming
into these last two games. I know they were had
lost seven of ten, so what is it? They've lost

(10:16):
eight of twelve, eight of twelve. This is what Luca
and lebrono. I know Lebron was hurt a little bit
during that stretch, but he's back. You should be able
to beat some of these teams. This is a bad sign.
And I don't know how you feel good. You can't
feel good.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
I don't feel good.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Didn't you feel good for a stretch.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Then you're like, oh, my god, they they got they
got they got Luca, my god, and now Lebron has
a chance and the Lakers have a chance.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Oh you don't want to play them?

Speaker 1 (10:47):
I don't know if you can really say that, and
especially depending on what teams that they might get. So
they're in fourth right now because Memphis lost last night too,
and that could have been that would have been a
big win for them, and they played Memphis on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
In Memphis just fired their head coach.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Right, they got a new coach. He's finished, I think, right.

Speaker 5 (11:05):
They just fired him. He's done, right, But.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
I'm saying no, no, I don't mean finished. He's finn, like.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
Oh finn Ish.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
I think he's the first finn coach in NBA history.
I knew. I looked at his name. I was like,
so I looked it up. Well, yeah, what you know?
And I think he's saw finn.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
But like, that game is massive because now that drops
you to the five seed, which puts you two games
outside of the seventh seed, which is the play in it.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Ain't that Can you imagine like like they could fall there?

Speaker 4 (11:43):
Oh my god, I would go crazy. You don't want
to see me you, I don't know. I would be
no good.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
It's gonna be well, let me ask you. Okay, people
gonna have a bad game.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Yeah, A bad pass Isaiah Thomas to a bad pass okay,
Bill Lambier, it was.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
It was a comedy of errors.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
You know that one of the all time Ephim almost
kicked my TV set it I'm not.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
And and but that was in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
No, it was right, it was the.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
But my point is, does it bother you even more
when you feel like he's distracted?

Speaker 5 (12:23):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Is that fair to say he's distracted?

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Because that's how I feel like what he's doing makes
no sense at this time.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
You made your point. Everybody saw you step to stephen A.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
You're told him what you thought about him talking about
his son, and that should have been the end of it.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
And then the you go to on McAfee show.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Did you even see what McAfee tweeted, I can't believe
Lebron was talking to a white guy. That's what That's
what that's the guys show. You went on said, I
can't believe Lebron's talking to a white guy.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
A comedy of eras, that's what's happening with the Lakers.
Lebron James down.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
This stretch unbelievable?

Speaker 4 (13:07):
All right?

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox? Is Lebron James distracted?
Are you bothered by this? Feud with Stephen A.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Smith.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Is that what we're watching here or No? The meltdown
last night had nothing to do with what's been going
on the antics out off the basketball court. We want
to hear from you eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.

Speaker 3 (13:36):

Speaker 1 (15:05):
On Fox, Rob Parker Ephram salam Is Lebron distracted by
his UH war with stephen A. Well, were just overreacting
and it's no big deal, no big whoop eight seven
seven ninety nine On Fox Trey in Texas. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Tray Heying?

(15:27):
Man doing good?

Speaker 3 (15:29):
No, I'm good Man good, Hey.

Speaker 6 (15:32):
I'm gonna take Ron Parker's last the most sensitive of
all time. Man, Yeah, he distracted. Steven ain't living refree
in his head right now.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
I just I'm shocked that a gout and thanks for
the call, Tray Ephraim of that, you know, he's punching
down and stephen A's at the top of his profession.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not but it's still down right. Seriously,
come on, man, Eric Redlands and the red Lands. You're

(16:04):
on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (16:05):
What's up.

Speaker 7 (16:07):
Well, for one thing, I think I think everybody's freaking
out a little bit too much, because I mean, the
Lakers are doing a lot better since they got Luca
than they were before.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
No, no, no, no, no no. They've lost eight of twelve.

Speaker 7 (16:20):
Okay, okay, that's that's true, but they're they're they're pulling
more viewership and.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
About winning the game. I'm just saying, like, okay.

Speaker 7 (16:30):
Okay, okay, and and you're you guys are freaking out
that they lost a game by two points, but the
day before everybody's like, oh, Dan, it was great. They
won by a point as a last second tip in, Like.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
We did you see that? Did you see the pass
by Lebron.

Speaker 7 (16:44):
That's how basketball goes.

Speaker 6 (16:46):
You never know if somebody's gonna.

Speaker 8 (16:47):
Win or lose.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
But we understand that. But that's not the point. The
point is how they're winning and losing.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
That's like, even the game they won barely by by
by the look crook, they should have lost that game.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
They're having leads and giving them up late in games. Yes,
that's what we're talking about.

Speaker 5 (17:04):
It.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
It's talking about the turnovers and the maybe passes. Those
are the things that a team getting ready for the
playoffs they're not gonna do. They shouldn't be happening. That's
what we're talking about. Appreciate the call them.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Ye Shock in Richmond, Virginia. You're on the couple of
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
What's up, Shock, what's going on?

Speaker 6 (17:23):
What's going on?

Speaker 5 (17:24):
What's happening?

Speaker 6 (17:26):
Hey Man, Big lagas fan Legga's in trouble, Man. They
got a non participant on defense and Luca. They got
an old watch descend and Lebron and they don't have
any run protection. He distracted. They can't guard anybody. The
Bulls are like one of the most mediocre teams in
the league. They got beat by him twice like in

(17:46):
the last week. But it's not good Man, and there's
no run protected walking through that door to make up
for the same Dallas, So no doubt they might. They
might be hurt for this year until they figured out
in the summer. I think that Mark Williams move and
that it went through, it would have been okay. But
I think they're in trouble all right.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Shack.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
Appreciate the call Robert in Georgia. You're in the couple
of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
What's up?

Speaker 3 (18:10):
Robert tell us that.

Speaker 8 (18:13):
God, Yeah, I want to say, quickly, while because I
listened to Ethan, I listened to the show yesterday. I
think one, it's quickly that you're giving Stephen they are
passed just on a simple fact that he's agate the
situation on a lot. He went you said what you
said when you initially went on your show for a stake,
but then you win a three or four other stop
Gilbert podcasts and everything and talking about what you're big

(18:36):
and bad and what you're gonna do with Bonn. You
should have just left alone once you addressed it. But
I do agree with the caller, the last caller, it's
because it's not because he's distracted because Lebarn is old.
He's happening to play defense and Luca is not playing defense.
So it's hard from the cold games because he Gavan
is just older. So I think that's the really not
nothing to do with Stephen names.

Speaker 5 (18:56):
Yeah, I appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Yeah, Robert.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
I just think when you when you win, you can
do whatever you want from you know, whatever you want
and when you're when you're don't right, when you don't
win all that other stuff like Michael Parsons ahead, you
know that.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
We're look, look all mind melding in here. The reason
people have a problem with Michael Parson's podcast is because
they can't win a playoff.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
Yes, that's the problem.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
You're talking all this you're talking about all this stuff,
you're not winning, like that's it?

Speaker 4 (19:32):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Who am I thinking of with the seventy six ers?
Who finally stopped his podcast? Paul George George, Yeah, I
want to see playoff people. He's finally stopped his because
the sixers aren't going anywhere. People looking at you, going
you worry about this podcast? You're getting paid, are you crazy?
Sixty million dollars and you're doing your podcast is important.

Speaker 5 (19:57):
Because that's what it feels like.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
If feels like and as a former athlete, professional athlete,
we have a responsibility to the fans, to the public
to give maximum effort number one. Less than zero point
one percent of the world's population can be professional at one.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
You have been a special specialized, special situation and ep
from you also have a small window.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
How many years you play thirteen thirteen that's a lot.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
That's not a lot.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
No, but right, not in your life. It ain't a lot.
But the average NFL place three and a half.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
I've been in broadcaster twenty five years.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
Think about that. How you been to a broadcast a
twenty five You played football thirteen?

Speaker 5 (20:41):
That's crazy, that's crazy. Right?

Speaker 1 (20:43):
One more Tim in the Inland Empire, you're on the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (20:48):
What's up?

Speaker 3 (20:48):
Tim?

Speaker 7 (20:50):
God? Couple with What's up God?

Speaker 6 (20:53):
Now I had to.

Speaker 7 (20:54):
Call again and all week I love this.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
It's all good man, you know what I'm saying now?
That pass there? What was that?

Speaker 7 (21:03):
It's actually a perfect blend of perfect storm because the
media that was on lebron side last yesterday a few
days ago was all the tip in he's one of
he tied, all the game winners, blah blah blah. And
then all the all the ears he has which we
always held against him in the clutch moments in the finals,
he did just for this Bulls game. It was actually

(21:24):
the most entertaining game of the season this year. I
watched that ending like thousands of times and it just
shows you that's the good and bad. We're not saying Lebron.

Speaker 8 (21:33):
You're not.

Speaker 7 (21:34):
We're not saying you're not great, but those clutch moments
matter and they seem because you are.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
It was awful, Tim What part of the empire you from?

Speaker 7 (21:47):
Oh yeah, you know Ontario? We got to represent.

Speaker 5 (21:49):
Okay, Okay, I see you.

Speaker 7 (21:51):
But for real, he needs to get off that stephen
Ay's back. There's just so much to accomplish with the Lakers,
and it better end nicely. Better than what we think
is that the first round playoff, a second round exit,
because if it doesn't bro that, all that Stevna stuff
will come back and lookdbn A, what did he mose
last night? Well he got on this show and was

(22:13):
able to get better ratings because everybody tuned in to
see how steven A was gonna cover Lebron.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
Boxing clips out there got no we should never see
him boxing again.

Speaker 7 (22:24):
The box cliffs. The boxing cliffs ain't Hellen, I ain't
gonna lie. You're not beating the media.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
You know you're not.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
I'm telling you because because it's not one guy. Like ultimately,
it's like a wave that never stops. It's like being
a mail man, okay, and the mail just keeps coming.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
It just it never stops.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
Can you imagine working up poll you one day you think,
oh the conveyor bet will stop and it'll be okay,
we'll have a break.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
No, it just keeps coming.

Rob Parker E from Salam We're broadcasting live from the
tire Rack dot Com studio. Now, let's welcome in one
of my favorite people, John Morosi, of course Fox Sports Radio,
MLB Insider and MLB Network. Mister Morosi, how are you, Rob?

Speaker 9 (23:20):
And Ephraim? I'm doing great. Happy opening weekend to both
of you. Ephraim, great to hear your voice again. We
go way back twelve years, my friend. Can you imagine
it has spent twelve years the launch? Oh that that slow.
We were teammates way back in the day. Great to
be with you.

Speaker 5 (23:35):
Absolutely unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
Wow, I'm surprised I didn't see you at Dodger Stadium yesterday.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
Where were you on the opening day?

Speaker 9 (23:43):
Yeah, I was actually working here for Michigan, Rob, it
was I was watching it was interesting, truth be told,
I was at Little Caesar Arena. I had the baseball
game on the screen and I was watching the Wings.
So it was a great sports day. Just like this weekend.
You got Michigan, Michigan State, so much great sports happening.
I will actually be in La in person with the

(24:05):
Braves in town next week. That's my first game for
MLB Network, so I'm really excited about. That's gonna be
a great matchup. Maybe an NLCF preview, because contrary to
popular belief, Robernie from the Dodgers still actually have to
play all one, sixty two and then multiple rounds of
playoffs to make it to the World Series. They don't

(24:26):
just really glide in and they fully intend to earn
their way there. But there are still some boxes to check.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Well let me let's go in there.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
I mean a lot of people aren't picking the Dodgers
to win because from the history's not on their side.
You haven't had a team repeat in twenty five years.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
Haven't had a.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
National League team repeat since the seventy five seventy six
Cincinnati Reds.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
And here's the other thing, and.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
John, you know this, when the Yankees had that run,
right ninety six and all that Sandy all Alamars Junior
showed up in ninety seven a home run against Mariano
and Miguel Cabra in two thousand and three showed up
right and hits some home runs. You can be great,
have a great team and still get knocked out Johnama, Right.

Speaker 9 (25:12):
Sure, And you go back to the Phillies when they
had what everybody thought was a rotation for the Ages
back in twenty eleven. They didn't even make it out
of the first round. And as inevitable as it seemed
that the Dodgers won it last year, we have to
remember that they almost lost to the Padres in the
first round last year.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
They should have lost. They were down three to one.

Speaker 9 (25:37):
Yeah, exactly from it. I mean, it's and again it's
It is a stretch to say that any team in
baseball should be favored to win the World Series that
is not named the Dodgers. It really is. It is
a stretch to say that. And yet I think what
Rob is getting at, and I agree with, is it

(25:58):
is difficult in the same way to say that the
Dodgers should account for greater than fifty percent of the
probabilities of winning the World Series. In other words, I
happen to think the Dodgers have the best chance. Sure,
but it's probably forty or forty five percent, with the
field getting the remaining fifty five. There's so many things

(26:21):
can happen along the journey, and we're already seeing. You know,
Mookie went through the illness in spring training. Freeman had
missed some time as well.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
It's key k was sick yesterday too, right, yeah.

Speaker 9 (26:34):
Yeah, but it is not inevitable that they are the
best team on paper. I would not argue otherwise, but
there's a long way away from now until October, it is.

Speaker 5 (26:43):
And shame on us for talking about the world now.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
I know, just in Game two, I know I get it.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
I get it, and we do that in football and
every other sport anyway, So why not baseball? My question is,
were you a fan of like the pre start of
the baseball season in Japan and Japan in mid March.
Are you more of a traditionalist where it starts closer
to April, because you know, for only two teams this

(27:11):
season started, then it stopped, and then it started again.

Speaker 5 (27:14):
Where are you a fan of that?

Speaker 9 (27:16):
I was simply because I've had the pleasure of traveling
to Japan before and understanding their passion for the game,
and that it is when you think about the commercial
success of the Dodgers. Anytime that you go to a
Dodger game, just look out on the advertisements all around
the outfield, all around the stadium, and ask yourself, how

(27:37):
many of the companies that are sponsoring to Dodgers and
helping to pay the bills for this team that we're
watching and enjoying. How many of them are are international companies, right,
And it's a lot of them. And those companies represent
the fans who are around the world watching this team
and staying up late or getting up early to watch
this team, depending on where you're living. And it's to me,

(27:59):
it's it's a respect. And also, let's be honest, guys,
you make a lot of money doing that MLB and
and fanatics and record amounts of merchandise. And when I
was there, even in November, months before the series even happened,
Robinie from I was there in the in the closest

(28:19):
subway station to the Tokyo DOMEA. It was wall to
wall full of Dodger merchandise, Brokie Susaki merchandise, even though
it was before Sasaki even signed with the Dodgers, his
old Japanese team, that Jersey was everywhere. There is a
way that that players are celebrated in Japan that is

(28:42):
really unique. And I would say this to take the
flip side of it. The home of of the richest
and greatest soccer clubs in the world is Europe. That's
where the for the for traditionally, it's where all the
teams have been, whether it's Premier League or the League
in Germany, the League in Italy. But those teams they
come and play in the US and eventually a player

(29:04):
like Messi comes and plays in the US all the time.
And it's a way of growing the brand. It's good
for the player, it's good for the brand, it's good
for the sponsors. And we are we we have been
the beneficiaries of that in growing the game in soccer.
And we'll see that next summer on Fox with the
World Cup, and we're gonna and we're seeing it right
now in sort of the other way with the game

(29:25):
growing in Asia as well.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
All right, last thing, we got a minute to go.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Just give me a player, young player we should look
at this year, you know, keep our eyes on he's
going to be something special or have a big year.
We saw Paul Skins last year with the Pirates. He's uh,
he's dynamite. He was great last year, started the All
Star Game. We get you know, called up at your
pitch and picked the All Star Game.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
That's how good you are, right it is.

Speaker 9 (29:52):
It's hard to imagine that anyone's gonna have quite the
same impact that Skeins had last year. But I'll give
you a couple of position players. Roman Anthony of the
Red Sox was not on the opening day roster, but
I think we'll make an impact at some point. And
then Cam Smith, who made the Astros opening day roster.
He's already recorded his first Major League yet. He was

(30:12):
acquired by the Astros and the Kyle Tucker trade with
the Cubs, so he is a good name to watch.
And then Jackson Job in Detroit, rob who was able
to break camp in the Tiger rotation. The Tigers lost
the Dodgers yesterday, but as we both have documented, we've
all documented, a lot of teams are gonna lose the
Dodgers this year. I have to expect big things from

(30:33):
Jackson Job and the Tigers this season.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
All right, he is.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
John Morosi of course, Fox Sports Radio, MLB Insider and
Fox Sports and MLB Network.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
Hey John, we appreciate your knowledge.

Speaker 9 (30:46):
Roberie from thank you so much. Enjoyed this great weekend
of sports, all.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
Absolute, no doubt. All right. Coming up next, Ephol, I'm going.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
To talk about Cooper Flag in his play. Plus sheckl
City will do that and much more. It is The
Couple on a Funky Flashback Friday, Rob Parker E From

(32:06):
know we got that was that Michigan State game going
on in front of US yep, uh Cooper flag. It's
like all the stuff that there was. He eighteen years old,
he's he's amazing. Well just your thoughts on him, you know,
I mean, everybody's sky high on him. I don't know
how you go back to college. What would you go
back to college for?

Speaker 4 (32:27):
Well, you could make more money nixt you're in college
than you could in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Man, please, And you could also get hurt in college.
I mean, let's just it's a it's a part of
the equation. Yeah, but you could also be no, and
the longer you're out there.

Speaker 5 (32:41):
But it's really different.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
Now I disagree with that. I think that you now
somebody like him. Yeah, he's the first picking the draft.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
No, but that's what I mean. Did you remember who
am I thinking?

Speaker 1 (32:53):
Uh, Matt, you work, you work your whole life e from.

Speaker 5 (32:58):
Yeah, seriously to be the.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
First overall picking in the NFL, and you want to
go back to college because you like being in the
dorm like like seriously.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
He wasn't in the door whatever it was he was.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
But he liked college. He didn't want to go.

Speaker 5 (33:12):
He liked college because he was in la he was
the toast of the town.

Speaker 3 (33:16):
And then he became tenth.

Speaker 5 (33:18):
Yeah, there's a lot of money he was making.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
I just I still think and now mad sit it
came out because this was before they put the structure in.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
With the no I get it.

Speaker 4 (33:29):
I just they were given you know, fifty million dollars
and you know the Sam Bradford deal and all of that.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
I just can't. I can't.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
I can't get I can't get with not wanting to
be the first picket. When they tell you you're going
to be the first pick of the drive, then you go.

Speaker 5 (33:43):
But there is a world where he stays.

Speaker 4 (33:45):
That's what you actually is there a world where you
see so you see him, do you think he's saying
there is a world he's making about six million now
just off in I l there's a world where that
goes up if he chooses to stay to upwards of
ten plus. But also in this is a big thing
from my knowledge, from what I've heard, he's under a

(34:06):
two year shoe deal right now. So if he goes
into the league, he carries that shoe deal with him.
If he stays in college, he not only will probably
be the first pick in the draft next year, but
he also is a free agent when it comes to
the shoe market as a rookie, which now is upwards

(34:29):
of two point fifty you know, two hundred and fifty
million dollars. But there's also that That's why i'm you know,
because there's a business now, but you know there's also
an other side to it, yeah, or where you could
be seriously heard, or or there's some new flavor of
the month shows up. And I'm not saying he'd go

(34:49):
away because he has a lot of qualities. He's gonna
get better, right But I just when you're that, I
just can't see you stand back, you know, like it's
like it's like the nine year old who can play
at Carnegie Hall.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
You're playing at Carnegie Hall. Yes, you know, I'm not
gonna wait till you get to high school. No, you're
nine years old. You're a prodigy, your talent.

Speaker 5 (35:11):
So you go back to Duke are you you go
play for the Wizards.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Play for the Wizards because you know, why uh. In Cincinnati,
everybody said the same thing. You don't want to go
play for them, do you? You don't, you don't, Joe Burrow,
you don't. You don't want to go there? No, no, no,
But there were.

Speaker 5 (35:32):
People but he was from there.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
No no, but there were people saying that he that
he shouldn't go play for that organization.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
But it's different. He was from and what did he do?

Speaker 1 (35:39):
He went there and changed things that all I'm saying, No,
I get it.

Speaker 5 (35:43):
And so that's different.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
I'm about season the moment.

Speaker 4 (35:47):
What we've seen first round draft picks do is get
swallowed up by poor teams and in small marketing.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
But all all of those guys, when you're when you
are a top pick, you always go to bad. That
that's Kevin Durant went to Seattle because they were bad
at the time. Like that's how that's Everybodyago Bulls had
one back, Chicago Bulls had one.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
The Wizards. We won't even be talking about him next year. No,
but I'm saying that no matter what he's doing.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Okay, so it's the Wizards this year and next year
is the Wizards. Okay, now what No, I'm just asking, now,
what if.

Speaker 5 (36:32):
They get back to back.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
And there's no there's no formula that they will have
automatically the first round. But you know what I'm saying,
if the Wizards have the first round, Dad, but you know,
but you know, I may contemplate coming back.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Because because you know this with the Clippers, all those
top picks they had, you know what, you remember me, Oh,
you couldn't avoid the Clippers.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
So say Duke wins the championship this year and then
Cooper Flag says, I'm gonna stay in college, but I'm
enter the transfer portal.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
What do you think he can fetch on the open market.
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
I don't know what they can give him now ten million.

Speaker 5 (37:06):
But you have to start think it's a business.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Now, all right, our number two on the odd couple.
You don't want to miss it. I'm telling you stick around.
