Cavino and Rich A couple of times the last few weeks.
So I've seen you in passing. But it has been
you know, it's been what a couple of months at least.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Since the Yeah, it's been a it's been a while.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
I will say it's I know it's in a while
because that's the first time I've heard the new intro
and it's phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
By the way, Well, thank you?
Speaker 5 (03:04):
Did you?
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Did you script that all out yourself?
Speaker 6 (03:06):
Now?
Speaker 7 (03:06):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, okay, all right.
Speaker 1 (03:09):

on myself in those moments. No, yeah, just a little bit.
Are you ready to go? We got a great show
coming out, no doubt. Let's welcome in the odd couple crew.
We wouldn't be able to do this fine radio program
without them.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Justin is I.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Justin is our producer, I should say in for Rob
g Iowa Sam, Iowa Sam, where are you our? Iowa
Sam is our engineer. I'm one step out the door.
I'm just here, so I don't get fine, okay, so
Iowa Sam is our engineer. Currently, don't forget. Mister Steve
the Sega is at the anchor desk. He'll keep us
(03:50):
updated throughout the program, and I believe it's Elijah our
social media groule.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I think he's back from vak Is.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Okay, So I'm wrong, Okay, So Saga is our social
media group.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
All right, let's start here.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Aaron the owners meetings and Jimmy Haslam, who owns the
Cleveland Browns, Man, did you have a quote out of
out of the NFL owners meetings in Florida? And you
gave me that? And I'm not looking for it?
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Do you have it? Just catch it it? Okay, here
we go.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
You don't here owners Brown's owner Jimmy Haslin said this quote.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
We took a big swing and miss with the Sean.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
We thought we had the quarterback, we didn't, and we
gave up a lot of draft picks to get him.
So we've got to dig ourselves out of that hole.
I need to say was an entire organization. It was
an entire organization decision and it ends with Ddie and
I so hold us accountable. He has come to the
(05:05):
own NFL owners meeting and basically undrest himself. I mean,
you don't hear an owner out and out say now,
Deshaun Watson's still on your team, He's a quarterback next year.
This might have been after they released him or something.
You know, when you say we swung and miss wow,
you don't get that kind of honesty. And I'm gonna
(05:27):
let you take the first dab at it now.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
First of all, I give him credit.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
You know, he said he said to end that quote,
it was an entire organization decision and it ends with
d and I so hold us accountable. And I will say,
like in defense of him one, it's good like the
owner has to sign off on something that big, right,
I mean, it was at the.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Timely guaranteed contract, fully guaranteed contract.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
For a guy that was in the middle of I
don't know what the right verbiage is to describe that investigation,
but we know what that investigation was about.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
It was not a pretty picture.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
It was not a pretty picture. And so I understand
it was an investigation. I understand what the NFL found.
I understand what the investigators found, but it was a
bad deal. The Texans were obviously ready to move on.
They're doing very well. And so outside of the fact
that it has been a disaster, that it has been
the worst contract in NFL history, I don't think anybody
(06:21):
even debates that anymore. I just go go ahead and
give him credit for saying, Look, I am the owner.
I obviously had to sign off on this. It starts
and stops with me. But I yeah, I think it
is safe to say we took a big swing and
a big miss. I will say, in hindsight, DeShawn when
(06:42):
he had last played, was a really good quarterback, So
I think that is worth noting. But it doesn't change
the fact that he was coming off of a year
in which he refused to play, he was going to
get suspended as part of the investigation, and on top
of it, of course, on top of it, you know
the investigation itself. So yeah, it was a big swing
(07:04):
and it was certainly a big miss.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
You're being conn do it and has them and it's
to blame. Oh yeah, he was in.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Deshaun Watson was a mess with what was going on.
He thought he was gonna cheat the system. Okay, we're
going to perch this fine quarterback in the midst of
this scandal, and we could do it because we're gonna
get them because you know, they want to get rid
of him. He don't want to be there, and we'll
(07:37):
luck out. So what we'll do is we'll give him
a fully guaranteed contract. We'll try to take them in
the midst of this big scandal that they tried to
ignore and act like anything nothing happened, and they got burned.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
And rightfully.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
So this is why the Cleveland Browns are a bad organization,
because they thought they were getting away with it. They
thought they were being slick. Oh, we'll just ignore the obvious.
It wasn't an elephant in the room. There were four
elephants in the room.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
There were a lot. There was a lot in the room.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
And they thought we're smarter than everybody else. We're gonna
swoop in and save the day. And people will come
back and say, man, it was smart to go.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Get to Sean Watson. Can I say something real quick
on that. First of all, it's easy to forget. What
did you have more to say? How wabout show one?
It's easy to forget if you remember, I happen to
be on air with Dan Byer. We were filling in
for Doug Gottlieb when the trade happened, and that day
we were talking is it gonna be? It was either
gonna be the Carolina Panthers or it was gonna be
the Atlanta Falcons, and so it was just this weird
(08:54):
thing from the beginning where he didn't want to go
to Cleveland. You had to pay him so much, much
more than everybody else, and then, yes, to your point,
kind of cheats the system games.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
The system gives.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Him hundreds of millions more guaranteed than virtually anybody else
would have. But on top of that, Rob you know
what was crazy watching it unfold in real time. One
first of all, he was suspended for most of the
next season. But two, even when he came back, it
was no longer Deshaun Watson, the incredible player from the
(09:25):
Houston Texans. It was hard to root and it was
easy to root against the Cleveland Browns. I think that's
what stands out to me more than anything else, is
that it's one thing if you just acquire a guy
and you overpay for him and whatever. But I remember
watching those games being like, Oh, this guy is paying
(09:47):
is playing, this guy is making this much money to
play back to play football in the NFL, and he
got away with what we know, he got away with it,
just even before we realized that Sean was washed up
and wasn't good anymore. It just felt weird. And gross
when he was actually taking the field after what we
(10:09):
found out, not only what he was accused of, but
what the NFL found out that he was actually guilty of.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
One hundred percent, And that's why they had a blame
for this. And remember he had been suspended, he had played.
They just thought, wow, what's the big deal. We'll get
him and we'll have our quarterback prayers. And he's never
been the same, No, not even close.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Well, remember he sat out the year before because he
demanded a trade. Right, this is what I'm trying to say.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Right when you look at all of the elephants in
the rooms, he hadn't played for a significant amount of time.
This is professional sports. You can't just sit out a
year and show up. Do you remember when Michael Jordan
played baseball, showed up at the end of the season
and they got knocked out right away? Mike, he wouldn't
hadn't played. I don't care who you are. They made
(11:00):
a mistake. He better take the blame. This was a
first guess, not a second guess. It was wrong all
the way around. And I don't know how you can
look at it. Do you feel sad or do you
feel sad? For the Browns because they thought they got
their quarterback, or did they get.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
What they deserved?
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
I'm telling you they got what they deserved.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
They ignored his behavior, They acted as if it didn't
mean anything. They ignored that he hadn't played, and it
all piled up on him that when he finally got
back on the football field, he's a shell of himself.
I should say this, a broken shell of himself. Deseean Watson.
(11:57):
I haven't recognized that guy wearing a Browns uniform. That's
that's not the guy played in Houston, not at all.
And the Browns deserve every bit of it.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Good for you.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
That's the next time you try to cheat the system
and think you're pulling a fast one on everybody else
in the NFL. The Browns deserve all of this and more.
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. It is the
odd couple on a Magic City Monday, Rob Parker Aaron
Torres right here on Fox Sports Radio.

ninety nine on Fox is the phone number.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
And we're talking about.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
The Cleveland Browns and the owner, Haslam, came out today
and said they swung a miss He took accountability. Well,
you should take accountability because you made you made a
mistake and everybody it was it was pretty obvious early on.
And they get everything that they deserve. All right, we
want to hear from you. Where are you on this?
Do you feel sorry for the Browns or did they
(13:54):
get what they deserved? Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox,
Bruno and Brooklyn, you're on the odd couple.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
What's up, Bruno?
Speaker 7 (14:03):
Tell them good evening, Good evening. Hey, Rob, one hundred
on this, you're one hundred percent right. And the wild
thing is this, they took him knowing what the bagage
he came with, and it not only was bad to
start with, but it got worse. In other words, he
was always injured, He never played a decent season, and
now here they are, all that money tied up. They
gave him guaranteed money. And what it did was it
(14:24):
jacked up the face scale for all these other quarterbacks
because it gave him so much money. And I want
to see these guys get paid. But that was a
terrible move on their part. And you know what, it's
just it's just not even close to being what they
thought it was going to be. And it's it's really
it's just a nasty situation.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
No doubt, Bruno, And you know what it was in
front of it in their eyes, and they thought they
would be in slick well.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
And here's the thing I was just thinking about. Thanks
for to call Bruno.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
What is the best case scenario for the Browns? Even
if he's awesome. You now become the team that has
an awesome quarterback that everybody hates, and you become the
hate able team for giving that guaranteed contract to again,
a guy who's just not a very good dude, based
on what we know via that investigation, No.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Doubt, Ron and Milwaukee, you're on the odd couple of
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
What's up run on this Magic City Monday.
Speaker 8 (15:15):
Hey guys, we're just slicking our wounds here in Milwaukee.
The Brewers have a kind of a rough start going
on there.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Hey, Ron, rough a rough start is being uh uh,
you're you're being kind?
Speaker 3 (15:27):
I mean, what was what kind of pitching was that?
Speaker 1 (15:29):
And Nesta Cortes he threw one pitch to Freddie Freeman
lost the World Series, and then his next three pitches
in the big leagues, you know, in the regular season
game all left the yard. Four pitches, four home runs.
Speaker 8 (15:43):
Yeah, practice, I guess my god?
Speaker 3 (15:47):
All right, where are you on the brown You were
at the game.
Speaker 8 (15:49):
We were at the game last year when they got
knocked out and it was it was it was hard breaking.
Speaker 9 (15:54):
Oh yeah, the bruise on the Browns, you know.
Speaker 8 (15:58):
Yeah, he's a dispensable guy in a horrible contract. But
somebody was going to do it. It was you know, you know,
out of.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Nobody though, Ron was going to give the guy guaranteed
contract and that kind of money. Sure they would have
taken if you could have gotten a deal on him.
You know what I mean, has damaged goods. Well, it's
easy to forget again.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
It felt like all the report cause it was down
to remember he's from Atlanta. It was down to the Falcons,
and it was down to the Panthers and then out
of nowhere. And the only way the Browns could get
him was just by giving him that much money. So now,
on top of the fact that he's not a good dude,
not a good human being, demanded a trade. Whatever you're
(16:42):
now giving this guy, you're basically rewarding the behavior right
right by giving him the highest guaranteed contract in the history.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
No doubt about it. Andre in Massachusetts, you're on the
odd couple. Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Drey, what's going on?
Speaker 10 (16:56):
Thanks for taking a call.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Listen.
Speaker 10 (16:58):
As we learned from round It, if you can't spot
the sucker at your first paper, then you are the sucker,
my friends. Okay, so there's no sympathy, right now for
the Cleveland Browns who went off, the who went outside
of the common thinking in terms of the NFL, right,
the other NFL owners right, not happy about this move
(17:18):
in terms of the guaranteed deal.
Speaker 7 (17:20):
Okay.
Speaker 10 (17:20):
So the other NFL owners they're sitting back, okay, and
they're waiting for the disaster.
Speaker 9 (17:24):
All right.
Speaker 10 (17:25):
So right now, even though they might be kurt smiles
and sympathy behind, you know, behind closed doors, they are
exuberant that this has been a disaster. And then, of
course the court of more, the court of public opinion,
was not happy with the son Dashaun Watson being rewarded
for his bad behavior. So in terms of the fandom,
you know that they were leery of this. Now it's
(17:46):
becoming an absolute train wreck and it's the uh, you
should have known better, We told you so you couldn't
spot the sucker at your first fifteen minutes. The Cleveland
Browns once again, and for a proud fan base, they've
been suckered and they're gonna have to, you would hope,
learn their lessons, but you're not gonna show me until
(18:07):
it's proven that you've corrected to behave yourself. Thanks taking
the call. Nobody feel sorry for you, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Thanks a lot, Andre Jordan and Vancouver. You're on the
couple of Fox Sports. Ready, we're an international show. You
didn't know that? What's up, Jordan?
Speaker 11 (18:21):
How buddy, No, I grew up in the States, man,
I couldn't. I couldn't quit.
Speaker 12 (18:25):
You like that.
Speaker 6 (18:25):
I don't care if I live in Canada.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
My man. We appreciate, We appreciate you.
Speaker 11 (18:30):
Here's what happened. What did your mama always tell you
when you grew up, if you played with fire, what happened?
Speaker 3 (18:36):
You get burned?
Speaker 7 (18:37):
You get burned.
Speaker 11 (18:38):
And what happened to them? They got burned. They knew
what they were getting into with Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 7 (18:43):
They were trying to catch.
Speaker 11 (18:44):
Lightning in the bus, yes, and they got burned to
a christ. And that's what happens when you play. And
that's the complete rounds thing that they do every year,
year in year out. They try to gamble on something,
they play with fire and they get burned. I have
no sympathy whatsoever for Deshaun Watson. For the Browns, they
got what they deserved.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
No doubt, good call, appreciate it. How about Drew in
New Jersey? You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 11 (19:12):
What up, Drew, Hey, guys, yes, sir, yep.
Speaker 12 (19:16):
So I think that this is absolute worst most scenario.
Speaker 13 (19:20):
I think, I know.
Speaker 12 (19:21):
I think Aaron you said that what's like the best
case scenario. The best case scenario would be with what
happened with Big Ben post late allegations, and with what
happened with UH.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
That wasn't the best case, Drew, Drew, I don't look
at it the same way because one guy in in
in the Big Ben situation, There wasn't sixty women.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
I say, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
They want accuse of one situation, right, sixty women? Drew,
you thought there was going to be a happy ending
to the story or was just somebody made up the story?
Speaker 12 (19:54):
I think that if he would have won games, I
think that the Browns are unfortunately, would.
Speaker 13 (20:00):
Have defended him.
Speaker 12 (20:01):
I'm as far as a person, Yeah, he's an awful person.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
It's hard to defend somebody who has done that much.
They thought they would, They thought Drew they were pulling
a fast one on the rest of the league.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
This is gonna sound weird. Thanks for a call, Thank
you for the call, Drew. Let me ask you a
weird question. Is it almost better for the Browns that
it didn't work out? Because imagine if he becomes he
turns into the second best quarterback in the league behind
Patrick Mahomes, and they're winning twelve.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
Tousand verteam games.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
You know what I'm saying, No, no, no, okay, okay go
that's another conversation.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
He becomes an elite eight plus plus guy.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
And now you're winning with him, and every city that
you go to, it's questions about it, it's booze, it's
protests outside of the stadium. I'm sure you would take
the winning, but there would just be a dark cloud
over everything you did, all of because this isn't one
of those things that it's like you you protest for
(20:57):
a game. You know, every time he went to Pittsburgh
every year, it would be the same thing every time
he went to Baltimore, every time he went on the road.
And now you're the Browns having to defend that behavior,
having to pretend like it's pretend like he's a hero.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
You know, I get what you're saying, and I don't
think that that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
I just think that, uh, they would have taken a
winning because that's all they were looking for. Let's squeeze
one more in Ramon in Indianapolis. You're on the eye
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up?
Speaker 6 (21:25):
How you doing? Gentlemen?
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Doing great? Yes?
Speaker 13 (21:28):
And and uh as far as the uh rob real
quick comment on those bats when you get him in
his ball. Yeah, on the day, that's a heck of
a design. N my t got a thought of that boy.
He should pull one over on him. They put the
muscle right there.
Speaker 9 (21:41):
With that ball.
Speaker 6 (21:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
We're definitely gonna talk about that coming up.
Speaker 10 (21:45):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (21:45):
I can't wait.
Speaker 9 (21:46):
Yes, Yes, Cleveland.
Speaker 13 (21:48):
I didn't like it when they first built U did it?
I didn't like to move The Sean was showing signs
of not having any type of competence. You can see
it in his face.
Speaker 9 (21:58):
You know, we're old school.
Speaker 13 (21:59):
You always do the first eye, the eyes of a
lie and then But the thing about it is the
man that talked about you talking about the owner. Somebody
swung and miss. You know why the owners.
Speaker 9 (22:08):
Can swing and missing these bleats because they getting guaranteed
money from these networks. They got boatloads of money that
they already have. It's already been guaranteed to them. Think
about the NFL last year, people listen, they had fifteen
bad teams, now fourteen playoff team. Fifteen teams were bad,
really bad. They still got their fat backs from the network.
(22:32):
So that's gonna always be the fall. They'll always be
able to swing and miss on the receivers. Getting thirty
three million, did you ever think of that?
Speaker 3 (22:40):
That's crazy, no doubt. Appreciate the call and the passion.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
And yes, we'll be talking about those funky bats later
on in the show. But coming up next former NBA
VET and current Houston Rockets color analysts Ryan Hollins. But first,
let's get you caught up with missed Steve the Sega Steve,
how are you doing well?
Speaker 5 (23:03):
Hello? Do you both?
Speaker 3 (23:04):
You don't have a strange bat in there?
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Do you?
Speaker 5 (23:06):
I'm you know that is a strange looking.
Speaker 6 (23:10):
Though.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
It's not new though.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
It's just amazing to me that there are strict limitations
on how big your glove can extend and all of
those things, and yet this is within limits. It just
it just looks, it.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Just looks weird.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
But I do want to say one thing, Yes, Aaron
Judge had four home runs.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
And he was not swinging that back.
Speaker 14 (23:29):
That's correct, and he's righting home runs just this weekend,
right all right, and then ask him.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Why he didn't switch his bat because I'm awesome.
Speaker 5 (23:36):
I think he connects already.
Speaker 14 (23:38):
Yes, he doesn't need any choose him, on the other hand,
said have you seen me swing?
Speaker 4 (23:42):
Of course, Hey, Rob, you have the highest rated show
on radio. Watch tuck a little more hockey exactly, exactly.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
For those who haven't seen the photo.
Speaker 14 (23:51):
There's just a little more wood at the sweet spot
of the bat, so there's less chance of you missing
the pitch. And the Yankees are some Yankees are using
that and yeah, they hit one home run after another
at home over the weekend. Let's start with football. Stanford's
interim football coach is Frank Reich. NFL owners approved a
change for flexing Thursday night games. It only requires three
(24:11):
weeks notice now instead of four weeks. And the Cowboys
say linebacker Demarve and Overshown with his knee injuries plural
might not be available for the start of next season,
and defensive Drayvon Diggs with the bad name might not
be available for the start of next season. We certainly
got to get to the NBA because there are eight
games tonight, including the matchup. Everyone's looking for Utah losers
(24:33):
of five straight at Charlotte, losers of five straight. Hornet's
up twenty eight to twenty one. Late in the first
z the game, were trying to find out about.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Ormana or not.
Speaker 14 (24:43):
We got the Clippers and he's actually playing tonight. Kawhi
Leonards sat out for Rest sat out a close loss
to Cleveland yesterday. He is on the court tonight and
they're losing at Orlando. Late first quarter twenty to sixteen
for the Magic. Polo ban Caro named Eastern Conference Player
of the Week, Heat out to a lead LA first
quarter of twenty nine to fifteen at Washington Wizards with
the record of sixteen and fifty eight. The Sons Kevin
(25:06):
Durant could miss at least a week after last night's
sprained ankle. Rutgers freshman Dylan Harper will declare for the draft.
He average nineteen points per game. We finish up the
women's hoops Regional finals tonight. It's early second quarter, Texas
fifteen to nine over TCU. TCU has three baskets and
nine turnovers so far in the first haf USCU con.
(25:26):
Coming up later. As for the MLB Action, today, it
was the White Sox up nine to nothing early with
three home runs. They wound up beating the Twins nine.
Zip Twins record zero to four, Milwaukee oho to four
after losing at home eleven to one to Kansas with
the pitching at Milwaukee, My god. Baltimore eight to five
over Boston. The Red Sox are one and four. Philadelphia
(25:50):
beat a Colorado team that's won in three six to
one fills the final. The Mets are tied at the
Marlins one one in the fourth inning. La de la
Cruz a home run in Cincinnati. Reds are leading six
nothing over Texas. And that was a start from Kumar Rocker.
He gives up two home runs early.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Back to you, all right, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
It is the odd couple coming to your live from
the tire rock dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
All right, now, let's bring in our guests.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Ryan Hollins, of course, former NBA VET, played ten years
in the league in the association of now current Houston
Rockets TV color analysts, and I say thank you for
speaking to my USC sports reporting class today.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
How are you, mister Ryan Hollands.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
I appreciate it. Wrong, you know, anytime I'm helping out
at USC, that means I love you.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
I know that, mister Ucla, I understand.
Speaker 6 (26:43):
You try to get my car. Revot man, I know
you're not going.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
To get that gift bag. You know that they give
out at Christmas time?
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Right?
Speaker 6 (26:50):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
All right, let's start. Ryan.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
You're Houston, right at your Houston Rockets, but you obviously
cover the Rockets. They're in Los Angeles tonight, Lakers coming
off that winning the game RIZ right after they fired
Taylor Jenkins. Just your thoughts on that game, big TNT game.
Speaker 6 (27:05):
This evening, Well, it's just huge. I don't think it
gets any bigger. And you can feel the anticipation coming.
I think the entire league is still asking are the
Rockets for real? So the Lakers have a lot to prove.
The most approved that I've seen in my four years
of being the color for the Houston Rockets that the
Lakers had to prove. They're still trying to figure out
(27:26):
who they are and for the Rockets, there's a lot
for them to establish during this streak or during the
winning streak. Pretty much the great records the teams haven't
been that great. There have been some tests, there have
been some competitive games, but this by far is probably
the most star power since we saw last night against
the Sun. But obviously the Suns are a really good team,
(27:47):
but they just got stuff going on right now internally.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Who has turned this team to the next level? Who
is it?
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Is this coaching or is this players developing? If I said,
do you pick one person coach or player who has
turned this franchise and team around, who would that be?
Speaker 6 (28:07):
Obviously the players play the game route. Let's not mistake this.
But this is emy Udoka because one thing that he's
done is he's gotten the best out of his players.
That's what I'm Yeah, guys are having career years. The
numbers are there. And the biggest thing from e May
is he embraces all our guys, you know, for Dylan Brooks,
who he is. EMA's right there with them getting technicals,
(28:29):
embrace him. Fred van Vliet has a certain style that
he likes to play, and uh he May will roll
with him and pivot different ways when needed. And again
he's not afraid to coach. I'm gonna say it again,
He's not afraid to coach in the NBA. And we
have a great group of young guys and talent and
veterans that are willing to be coached by emy. So
you got a coachable group, and I think sometimes from
(28:50):
my experiences in the ten years I played, that can
get lost, but I may is able to serve some
tough love and our guys respond because of it.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
Our guest is Ryan, of course, ten year and NBA
Pro and Houston Rockets color analyst, joining us here on the.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Couple Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Right, let me ask you this as a former NBA player,
A big deal, little deal, no deal Lebron spending an
hour on Pat McAfee talking about everything under the sun
last week.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Because I look at it, as you know, if I'm a.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
Player on that team, I'm sitting there like, oh, you know,
this is kind of weird. A lot of headlines coming
out of it that now you get asked about, et cetera.
Is that something other players care about or is that
just part of the deal.
Speaker 6 (29:33):
He's a reality for the guys in the locker room.
And I played with some pretty high profile players. Nobody's
high profile as Lebron and in the situation he's in.
But we've never seen a forty year old this good
at the game of basketball. You know, I liken it to.
You know, when we've playing the Big Three, you know,
there's not too much that of officials going to do
to threaten us with the technical or no one's going
(29:54):
to talk crazy to your shoot. You got kids at home.
You know what I'm saying. The mouth the seed. But
he's a forty year old playing in the NBA at
an extremely high level, averaging around twenty six, six and six.
So for Lebron James, he's got that old man I
don't care. I'm going to do what I want in
his system and he's arguab to be the greatest player
to ever do it. So you realize really quick. And
I learned this in the league at a fast age
(30:16):
at what's for me is for me and isn't for you.
I learned that when I look over at Meta OKA
four and my checks you know for the months had
a nice number of it. Wow, that's a good number.
And his number had a couple more zeros on the
end of it. So we were not created equal in
the NBA. And I think the guys obviously understand that,
and they still get behind Lebron's leadership, right, And.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
Is it fair for people to look at Houston.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
Look at OKC and go They're going to have to
prove it to me out West. I have to see
them do it to buy into them. I mean, Okase
has been as good as you can be all year long,
and people are ready to skip the Lakers ahead of them,
and almost everybody you know like, oh, I wouldn't want
to play the Lakers, and this and that he's a
good team. Houston's a good team. Do they have to
(31:02):
prove it?
Speaker 6 (31:02):
Though that Kenna had to prove it. Rob go ahead
and put a battery on my young boys back. Let them,
let them feel like they have everything to prove. You know,
there's no excuse of being fat and happy because you know,
a Rober at the end of the season, if you
don't live to expectations that they put you on a
plateau that you don't reach, it's disappointing and frustrating. But
now when you win and expectations aren't there, you're playing
(31:25):
with house money. It's a fun place of bleian being.
And this is arguably the funnest season possibly ever for
the Houston Rockets. Not that it's the best obviously, we
can't take away from those championship years, but just over
exceeding expectations and a group of guys that like each
other on the court, and a fan base that is
getting rewarded for watching them grow develop and stampation.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
We have one more minute. Yeah, I'll be quick on this.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
Ryan, just your thoughts in the league's thoughts on the
Taylor Jenkins news from late last week.
Speaker 6 (31:53):
Man, I think it blew everybody away. I think the
biggest testament to Taylor Jenkins that he wins with John
Morant is out. It's not going to be long before
he's picked up. And unfortunately, at the end of the day,
the star players bigger than the star coach. But Taylor
Jenkins can coach. I got my stand behind him. Ain't
gonna be long before he's picked up. So you know,
one man trash is another man's treasure. But at the
(32:14):
end of the day, it's the players league and they
know they're gonna have to do what they need to do.
And I'm not saying this is the reasoning, but to
put John Morant in the best position where he feels
comfortable and where he can be successful.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
All right.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
He is Ryan Hollins, ten year former NBA VET and
current Houston Rockets color analyst Ryan. We appreciate the insight
and the knowledge, my brother, Thank you, Rob.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
You you what'd you say that again?
Speaker 6 (32:40):
I said you something else?
Speaker 9 (32:41):
Rob.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
I'm gonna talk to you later. Man, See stuff all.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Good, my man. We appreciate you. Thanks Ryan. All right?
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Coming up next year on the Couple on This Magic
City Monday, we'll do a little Woody I mean a
little Shekel City and Woody Johnson ripping the Players Association.

tire rack dot Com studios also try to supply knows

Speaker 2 (34:18):
Welcome to Shekel City, the whole base for Rob Parkers,
Daly Dix against the scrap.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
All right, I am what's two and one off Friday?
Speaker 1 (34:34):
I am now eighty two and eighty two on the season,
eighty two and eighty two, so I'm feeling that pretty good.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
Here we go. My best bet take the.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Rockets plus three and a half justin don't want to
hear that. Take the Rockets plus three and a half
against the Lakers here in La. Also take the Nets
plus nine and a half at Dallas.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
This is an underdog special on this Monday. And take
the Bulls plus fifteen.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
And a half fifteen and a half in Okay, see
plus fifteen and a half. Crazy all right, So again
Bulls plus fifteen and a half, nets plus nine and
a half and the Rockets plus.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Three and a half. And remember this, Aaron.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
I'm not telling you who'd have bet on. I'm telling
you who I bet Oh, thank you?
Speaker 3 (35:27):
All right? Can you read this?
Speaker 1 (35:28):
Woodie Johnson, the New York Jetropolitans owner, Dude, he's mad
at the NFL's Player Association because they put out this
sub critique of the teams by the players, and they
give out grades for all kinds of you know, surveying
what it's like to work there, workplace, all the amenities,
(35:52):
all the other things that you have to deal with,
and the Jets got an F.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
What a shocker. The Jets, who have been.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Won on Super Bowl since Moby Dick Wi a guppy,
haven't made the playoffs in fifteen years. What a shaka.
I'm not shocked, but apparently, Woody shock. Yeah, you mentioned
it to lead the show.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
Rob Owners meetings are going on right now in Palm Beach, Florida,
and there was a NFL Players Association annual team report card.
He gets an F. As you said, Woody Johnson asked
about it, calling it quote totally bogus. Can't speak to
the workplace. I just know the on the field product
that we see. Not only is it not very good,
(36:34):
pretty much hasn't been good the entire time he's been
the owner of the team.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Is that fair to say? What's fair to say? They
They definitely have the longest streak in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
I believe it might be the longest streak in the
four major sports of fife playoffs D nine yeah, or
either nine or ten. When they made they made the
back to back AFC championship Gas, they haven't been back.
That was a big reason why Rex Ryan wanted the
job back. He said, I know how to win here,
which criticize him, but he's the last one.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
But did you see what he did when he went
to Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
I'm just saying, oh, Rex Ryan, I mean all I'm
I'm just saying, oh, I'm saying it's not to act
like he didn't coach. After that he went to Buffalo
and they shuffled him off out of Buffalo because he
wasn't that good.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
I was not implying my own opinion on Rex Ryan.
All I was saying he that was his argument for
why he should get the job back. That's all, but
it speaks to the fact that it's been an F
minus minus pretty much since he left.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Yeah, it's been bad, and they've tried to do some things.
It just makes mistakes. Like people for a long time
used to argue with me about the Lions, and you know,
they hadn't want to play one one playoff game since
nineteen fifty seven before they finally, you know, last year,
won a couple of playoffs games, and people used to.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
Say, oh, it's a curse. It's no, it's bad ownership.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Sure, bad decisions, bad drafting, bad hires, bad head coaches,
bad's that's how you get bad like that, and that's
what the Jets are.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
It's just just a simple.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
Well think about team we talked about to leave the show,
Cleveland Browns. It starts with the ownership, and at least
the ownership took accountability for the John Watson stuff. But
with the Jets, you know, I think even just what
we saw over the last year, not just the Aaron
Rodgers stuff, but the way in which he was able
to manipulate everything, the way in which Robert Solo was fired,
(38:18):
the way in which the GM Joe Douglas was fired.
Remember Joe Douglas. I think was fired at practice. Like
the owner basically, you know, Woody Johnson basically showed up,
called him to the side in the middle of a
practice or something, and fired him on the spot. So
now the place is a train wreck. I think it's
pretty safe to say.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
I think f is about an accurate description of where
we are with the same that'll and.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
We'll see what's happens going forward.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Aaron Glenn thinks he's gonna get there and change everything,
and everybody's great and we have everything Like I'm here,
these coaches talk and it's just I get it. You
gotta go in there with optimism and and and you're
going to be the one to turn everything around. And
for the most part it doesn't happen, but ever so
often it does. It did in Detroit, and Aaron Glenn
was a part of that. He's a former New York Jet.
(39:05):
So we'll see what happens. But if the owner continues
to meddle, nothing's gonna change that. And that's what happened
in Detroit for a long time. Until you finally get
out of the way, own the team, hire people who
you believe in and trust to make football decisions. That's
when you have trouble. You got your son doing Madden
(39:26):
and picking players from from the rating on the Madden
Game and all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
And I would say too, the thing about Aaron Glenn
really quick, and I know this isn't an indictment on
the current team. Whenever you go into a season and
you basically punt on year one, which they're doing, respectfully
with Justin Fields.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
I'm with you, everybody. He's gonna sit there and tell
you that Justin Field is gonna be great. But that's
what you're doing exactly. And now you put yourself behind
the eight ball. And then year two you're gonna either
be playing a rookie or another vet. You're not gonna
have the answer. I don't like it. Yeah, it's I'm
with you. I mean, that just seemed like a weird
place to be and for them, but that's where they are,
(40:03):
all right. We got so much more on this Magic
City Monday coming up on the odd couple, including the
NCAA tournament and Aaron, I can't wait to get your
take on this. All number ones have made it to
the final four. We'll do that and much more. You
know what you need to do stick.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
And stay good Shock Madness.
Speaker 2 (40:24):

Tyler Dragon, the national NFL reporter for USA Today. So
we'll look forward to that, Aaron, when Tyler Dragon joins us.
Speaker 4 (41:16):
Yeah, Tyler will join us momentarily. Talk a lot about
a busy week at NFL owners meetings. But Rob, I
want to ask you about you know something that's near
and dear to my heart. Not everybody's, but near and
dear to my heart. Final fourst set, and so will
Doug not be doing his radio show because of Final four?
(41:38):
I stay out of that was that you was that
you pull on a McAfee and no, I'm just kidding now,
I may your job. I may see Doug down there
though Doug's I've seen Doug at the Final four quite
a bit.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
But Doug and the Green you've never seen him coaching.
Doug in the Phoenix will not be there.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
You know who will be. Rob, go ahead and tell
me I'm sorry. I got you off track.
Speaker 4 (42:03):
Yes you did. He got me in the middle of something.
I don't know what's going on now. It's like I
feel like, uh, you're good. I feel like Bronni was.
I'm the Brownni of this situation with steven A and
Lebron But uh no, So Final four set Elite eight
was Saturday and Sunday, and uh we got a lot
of chalk. Rob Parker, so I know you and Kelvin
talked about last week the lack of upsets in round one,
(42:26):
but that carried over into the Sweet sixteen in the
Elite eight because on Saturday, The Saga and I were
on air, the Florida Gators one seed in the West advance,
the Duke Blue Devil's the one seed in the East advance,
Houston Cougar's and Auburn advance as well.
Speaker 3 (42:40):
All four number one seeds are headed to San Antonio
this week. This is only the second time, right.
Speaker 4 (42:46):
Second time? First was eight. How about this Final four
was in San Antonio? Then wow, so it must be
a San Antonio thing. But I'll be quick because I
want your take on this. I know you and Kelvin
talked about it a lot.
Speaker 3 (42:59):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (43:00):
I think this is my big picture takeaway. And I
was talking to ty Shirt a little bit explaining the
portal and how things work, whether you like the portal,
whether you do ownt nil, whatever. The best min major
players are now going to the high major level. Okay,
the high major level is now as good as it's
been in a long time because you don't have those
A Cooper flag is never gonna stay four years, we
(43:21):
get it. But a Walter Clayton develops at a small
school transfers up to a big school. The analytics will
tell you these teams like, so, I'll just be quick here.
There's a website called ken Palm Moray. Okay, he has
all these crazy analytics. But one of his analytics says
that in the last twenty five years, the four teams
who made the Final four this year are among the
(43:43):
ten best teams we have had in the last twenty
five years. It's a reflection of nil keeping good but
not great players in college and the transfer portal bringing
players up. But what it leads to is I believe
great basketball. I still think there's great storylines and the
players are different. You have Cooper Flag who's a freshman,
(44:05):
but Walter Clayton from Florida is going to be an
NBA player. Jan I Brew from Alburn is gonna be
an NBA player. Best team's biggest stage in college basketball,
four number one seeds.
Speaker 3 (44:16):
I think it's a net positive. What do you think rou.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
I'm all for it, and I'm not with the Cinderella
because I've been waiting for a long time for Cinderella
to win, and Cinderella was never going to win. I
think it was sold a bill of goods for a
long time. There's an upset every so often. Oh my god,
and the mid majors and the butlers and you know
where we thought like someone's gonna break through, right eventually, No, Nope,
(44:43):
it hasn't happened, and it wasn't gonna happen. And now
that the system is set up where you're paying students
guess what schools have more money. The bigger schools have
more money. So anything that you thought what might have
happened years ago is never going to happen. I just
don't believe it. I really don't. Well yeah so, yeah,
(45:03):
so I'm I'm I'm cool with this. It's the best
thing that can happen to college basketball. The four best
teams who played all year, had the best records, all
that got the number one seeds.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
And now they have a chance to duke it out
for the championship. Well, and here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (45:18):
Everybody, like you said, everybody claims they want this, they
want the Cinderellas.
Speaker 3 (45:22):
Whatever. Let me ask you this, was it.
Speaker 4 (45:25):
Not more fun having Alabama put up one hundred thirteen
points before they played Duke. Okay, Alabama, you know, Duke's
been good. Duke just played Arizona, they played Alabama. Those
were two great games. Which are Arizona played Akron in
round one? Do you want to watch Duke play Akron?
Because I don't want to watch Duke play Acron. Uh
let's see here, I'm just trying to think.
Speaker 3 (45:46):
I don't want to drive through Acron. WHOA, I'm sorry,
See now, you're taking shots at Lebron again.
Speaker 4 (45:51):
I'm telling you that's a weird Lebron.
Speaker 3 (45:54):
Okay, just a kid from Akron, haven't you heard? Okay?
Speaker 4 (45:59):
Yeah no, I I just sit there and it's just like,
is that everyone says they want Cinderella and it's like, again,
just think about it, Akron. Rob doesn't even want to
drive through Racord. I gotta watch him play more than
one game in the tournament. You know, you go on
and on down the list. I'm just trying to think.
Wafford played Tennessee in the opening round of the tournament.
(46:20):
Tennessee makes the Elite eight. Would rather have Houston and
Wafford or Houston in Tennessee. Tennessee has a couple NBA players.
And the other thing I'd say too, is, you know
a lot of NBA fans tune into college basketball to
see the future of the sport. You have Cooper Flagg,
who's gonna be the number one pick, right, you have
two or three other NBA players at Duke. I mentioned
(46:40):
Walter Clayton from Florida is probably gonna be a first
round pick. So it's got the best of everything. The
basketball should be better. It's been better in this tournament.
There's no Cinderella. You don't have to be sold a
bill of goods that doesn't exist.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
Last year, didn't we have three Cinderea, you know, like
smaller schools.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
It was two years ago, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (46:59):
I remember, yes, and the ratings weren't good, and you
know what I mean, people didn't want like Cinderella was
supposed to be one girl at the dance, not not
two or three girls at the dance. That's not so
Cinderella to me. I remember having this conversation with you.
I don't know if I was filling in or as
a guest. But in twenty twenty three it was Yukon
San Diego State Florida Atlantic.
Speaker 4 (47:21):
And then that was two years ago already twenty twenty three. Yeah,
last year was Yukon Purdue. The year before it was
Yukon versus San Diego State. And but that year I
was at the Final four in Houston. It was the
cheapest ticket that you could possibly have. And by the way,
that year, Texas happened to lose in the Elite eight,
and it was like even worse, right, Yes, it was
like if Texas had been there, it would have been interesting,
(47:41):
but yeah no, and I love the sport, but it
was kind of a tough final flourid to cover as
far as storylines and interest. And by the way, Yukon
won both a semifinal in the National Championship by double figures.
By the way, a good metaphor for where we are
in college basketball right now. Uh Florida atlant Antics. Three
four best players on that team. We're still in college
(48:04):
basketball this year, playing at the high majors. One of
them is playing in the Final four again for Florida.
So that's where the sport is. You can like it,
you can hate it, but the best players are now
getting a chance to go to the bigger stage. The
teams are better at the top, the games are better,
The games are better. And if you're an NBA fan,
Cooper flags in the Final four, malawatch, Duke's got three
(48:25):
four NBA guys, Walter, I know, I keep saying it,
but it's the best.
Speaker 3 (48:29):
Of all worlds.
Speaker 4 (48:30):
You get better quality play, better teams, coaches you know,
brands you know, and they've been the best teams all year.
And by the way, let me ask you this, why
is college basketball the only sport where we don't want
to see the best teams at the end. Like, you know,
if Ohio State and Alabama are the two best teams
in college basketball, nobody's like, oh man, it's so bad
(48:51):
that Alabama beat Boise State, or it's so bad that
the eight seed in the NBA play, Like, like, let
me ask think about this Dog's Yankees last.
Speaker 3 (49:00):
Year World Series? Was that not a good time? It
was a good time. Do we not have fun?
Speaker 1 (49:04):
Even though it was a five game series, it still
was good. Yeah, we wanted to see those teams play.
And I'm with you. I just think that the Cinderella
bill of goods had been sold to us for a
long time and they just don't add up. Like at
some point he said, oh, in any given night, somebody
could come and beat you. Well, we've been watching that
and yes, a sixteen beat to one once or twice, right, Okay,
(49:25):
so that was exciting. But for the most part, the
same teams are always there, even Michigan State. I think
Itze had a good record against the SEC. He was
undefeated in the tournament. Right, Yeah, that's your guy.
Speaker 4 (49:37):
I was gonna ask you really quick, he said, he
never never won another one. If you can't shoot threes
in twenty twenty five, I think it's gonna be pretty
tough for you.
Speaker 3 (49:48):
It's only been twenty five years since I said that.
It's only been twenty five years. It still going strong.
That's when you don't have to let me see here.
I just want to see you really quick. Because it
was it was bad yesterday. Let me see. They lost
seventy to sixty four.
Speaker 4 (50:00):
By the way, Auburn's best player goes out, you think
he's not coming back.
Speaker 3 (50:03):
And he comes back.
Speaker 4 (50:04):
They got outscored while he was out too. Michigan State
finished that game seven of twenty three from three, So
it actually wasn't as.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
Bad as I thought. I thought it was even worse too.
It was thirty percent though.
Speaker 1 (50:14):
Yeah, not a good day at the office. But yeah,
I'm good with this. I feel good about the tournament.
I picked Houston. Yeah me too, did you?
Speaker 3 (50:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (50:23):
For the season, I mean before the tournament. It'll be
interesting to see how it all plays out. But I
think the the uh Cinderella thing has always been like
a cute idea that we thought, maybe what was the
other school? I'm always Gonzaga was another one that we thought, Oh,
one of these days, Gonzaga's gonna win or some school
(50:44):
would win, and and it just it has never happened.
And now we've totally seen where to me, with the
with the nil and the system the way it's set up,
I don't know how Cinderella's gonna win.
Speaker 3 (50:55):
I really I don't know.
Speaker 4 (50:57):
And I think it's a great point because I think
there was about a ten year period where the mid
major teams could keep their guys for two three, four years,
and the high major teams were losing everybody.
Speaker 1 (51:07):
After you one and done or whatever, right, and now
I had a little more cohesiveness and a unit.
Speaker 4 (51:12):
Yep, And now you know, you look at it and
it's just it's just it's not pretty. So I'll tell
you what. First of all, we should open up the
