Speaker 4 (01:38):
And Aaron, here we go.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
You know, the buzz about baseball and the opening weekend
and Opening Day was Thursday, and everybody couldn't stop talking
about the Yankees who demolished the Milwaukee Brewers and swept
a three game series and they hit this franchise record
nine in ni n E nine home run in the
(02:01):
game on Saturday, fifteen total in the three game set
in which the Yankees swept. And let's listen to Michael
Kay who talked about these new torpedo bats and this
is what he's talking about, where you can see a
bigger part of the bat, not exactly on a barrel
(02:23):
or underneath or but wherever that player. These are custom
bat built bats for people. And Michael Kay explains it
on the Yes Network.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
Now you see the shape of Chisholm's bat.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
It's got a big barrel on it.
Speaker 6 (02:38):
Well, it's actually a little bit lower than the barrel.
The Yankee front office, the analytics department, did a study
on Anthony Bolpie and every single ball it seemed like
he hit on the label.
Speaker 7 (02:53):
He didn't hit any on the barrel.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
So they had bats made up where they moved a
lot of the wood into the label, so the harder
part of the bat is going to actually strike the ball.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
They're a weird way to hits, going up there expecting
to get jammed and putting the meat of the bat
towards the.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Label and allow you to wait a little bit longer.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
And there it is. So most fans went crazy. The
Yankees are cheating. They're the news. Houston Astro. They got
these Yanki bats. They're yanky. Got that At first I
was like, Janki, Okay, they're jankie Because because the uh
barrel's not in the right place. Major League Baseball put
(03:35):
out a statement. These bats are legal, and they have
rules on what the bats can be right. Even a glove,
you know that there's a specification for glove, just like
when they had to flake gay in the NFL. There's
a certain amount of air that is allowed to be
in a football. It's just this is specification. Everybody, belly
(03:59):
ache in the key's a cheating. Look at all these
home runs. I hate to break it to you. First
of all, the bat has been around, it's not new.
Some people used it last year, but obviously when you
see all these home runs going out, then people start
to what is this all about? And the one thing now,
(04:20):
John Carlos Stanton used it last year. But Aaron Judge,
who had four of those fifteen home runs over the weekend,
he still has his regular bat. So that doesn't mean
that it was only about the bat that.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Made the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Do you know the nickname for the New York Yankees
is what brox bombers because they had home runs? Right,
I just in my pe Yeah, okay, so this is
not new that they had home runs at Yankee Stadium.
But Aaron Judge had all four home runs using a
normal bat, So of course it had more to do
(04:59):
with bad Brewer's pitching than it did about these bats
that don't look right.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
It sounds like a made up debate, and I'm gonna
take it out of my own personal opinion and put
it in the hands of Brewers manager Pat Murphy, who
was asked about the Yankees torpedoes bats, and he said, quote,
my old ass will tell you this for sure. It
ain't the Wand it's the magician. When the manager of
(05:28):
the team that gave up, that gave up all those
home runs, you know, the Lebron not one not too well,
was it thirteen fifteen? Yeah, it's not the wand it's
the magician. He needs some more magicians in that bullpen
and in his starting rotation. So I'm just directly quoting him,
by the way, I hope I could say that that
word on air here. But listen, there's nothing to Today's
(05:52):
my last day, last time about the odd couple, at
least until the next time.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
I feel it because calf is coming back.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
There's no story. It's I think you're right. I think
it's because it's the Yankees, and I think it is.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
A nonfranchise where record nine home runs in a game.
I get sure.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
But if everyone has access to the technology, if not
everyone is using it, that's hitting all these home runs.
By the way, you're literal the best home run hitter
in Major League Baseball is like, no, I'm good with
the bat, I'm musing.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Which makes total sense. Why would he change? Yes, we
talked about it. The stat nine hundred and nineties first
nine hundred and ninety five games as a Yankee compared
to Baboo's first nine hundred and ninety five games as
a Yankee because he started with the Red Sox, right,
both both hit three.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Hundred and eighteen career home runs.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Yeah, and he's not using the torpedo back crow now
he is not okay. So to me, it's a it's
a it's not a non story because I don't want
to undersell why we're talking about it.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Because it was a talk of the week. It was
it was no doubt about it. It was it was
a talk because the bat's funky, and you just wonder
if and the question really, as we talk to people
about this, do you want your team to get these bats?
You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Like sure?
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Like supposedly Buster Only from ESPN tweeted or reported that
the Atlanta Braves, who started out owing for said ken
your ship, but that they're ready to make a shipment,
that they're interested in seeing what this is all about.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
And isn't that what That's why we have managers, coaches
front off. It's to whatever advantage people have. You're trying
to figure it out. And so to me, first of all, yes,
everybody should be trying to figure out if these bats
will create some advantage, and I think, look, if everybody
has them and all of a sudden we got eighteen
(07:54):
runs the game every game, then a league Baseball changed
the rules, right right, you know? To me, I know
it's not apples to apples. We were talking about equipment
versus people. But it reminds me of the touch push.
It's like the touch push.
Speaker 7 (08:08):
Do it?
Speaker 4 (08:08):
Other team can do it?
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Right, But yeah, the Philadelphia Eagles have mastered it because
of the fact that they are better at it than you.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Doesn't mean that we.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Need to ban the toush push. It means that you
need to get better that I use the analogy all
the time.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Right with the touch push.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
If Josh Allen can throw the ball seventy yards on
a dime downfield and hit his receivers in the air,
and the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints or whoever
you know, Baker Mayfield can't, should we outlaw the seventy
yard downfield touchdown pass? Or should we just accept that
(08:45):
Josh Allen could do some things that you can't. It's
the same with Jalen Hurts in the toush push. It
is the same with the torpedo bats. Again, complain all
you want, but also just get the technology yourself. Just
just call up whoever's in charge of this you, like
you said, everybody has all these analytics. Get your analytics
(09:05):
department on it and get to work.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
And if you're an all star great player, would you
change bats? Would you even look into this?
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Great call? I would not touch that bat. Great call.
Not interested.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
If I'm Aaron Judge, if I'm sho Hey, if I'm
somebody the other, what don't put that bat near me?
Speaker 4 (09:27):
I'm not touching it. People have scuffled or struggled and
then looking for some help. That makes sense, doesn't it.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
Well, let's take a look at the Yankees right now,
because the Yankees are obviously you look, fifteen home runs
over the course of the weekend. Let's take a quick
look here. Let's see here, zero home runs from Oswaldo
Cabrera in eight at bats. You go on and on
down the list. One home run from Cody Bellinger and
tenant bats. One home run from Paul Goldschmid in twelve
(09:57):
at bats. Right, should the analytics got be fired? Because
Paul Golchman only has one home run so far this season?
Speaker 3 (10:05):
And Aaron Judge leads the team with four. Yeah, using
his own bat exactly justin what you got.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
You know who could really use one right now? Guys,
who's that Raphael Devers? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Well, we Steve mentioned the stat with the red Sox
yep as the dh OH for nineteen to.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Start to seize. Is that good? That is not good?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
And I don't know the big bat could help him
or or whatnot, but this is interesting, Steve the Sega
can you jump in, Steve, just your thoughts on this
and you talked about it before. It has been used before,
and obviously the home run barrage body Yankees is definitely
what made it, don't you think jump out to where
(10:46):
people started to talk about it.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Absolutely.
Speaker 8 (10:49):
I think a person like Max Munsey would be perfect
for this bet because he's already a thirty homer hitter
but never hits for average. He knows the strike zone
very well, draws a lot of walks, can tributes to
the offense that way, but there's a lot of swing
and miss and if you can correct that with wider wood,
it doesn't it and you can do it legally.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
But but you agree with the guys like I areon judge,
and people said that they're not touching that bat, right, you.
Speaker 8 (11:15):
Know, why screw up with something that works and right.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
And and the worst thing you could do is mess
yourself up, Like what would you do if if you're
scoffling or you're having issues? Yes, and and Baseball has
come out with a statement, this is legal.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
The Yankees aren't doing anything wrong.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
If other teams want to get these bats, they can
get the bats.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
Looks funny, Yes, it does.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
It's funny, right, like reject bats that didn't fire or
something like that.
Speaker 8 (11:45):
I'd like to see one of them break or how
it breaks, or if it does, because usually it breaks
when you get jammed on something. There's not as much
wood the closer the bat is to your hands. That
would be different with this bat.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
And you know what, I don't know if Michael k
Will didn't bring it up during the Batman and point
to it, because guys have used it last year.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
It wasn't a conversation, but yes, has talked about it.
Speaker 8 (12:08):
You know, one of the home run hitters has addressed it.
So it's not like it would still be a secret
a week end of the season.
Speaker 6 (12:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Yeah, And I just I think people would have had
to look harder to really notice it.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Not that it's a secret, but I wouldn't have been
looking at the back that closely, would you?
Speaker 4 (12:26):
No, not at all.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
I didn't see it last year, and I didn't know
that John Carlo used it last year.
Speaker 8 (12:31):
No, from far away, which is the normal baseball TV shot,
you couldn't close up. Obviously it looks different.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Yep, no doubt about it, all right, eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox You want to hear from you?
Eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Is this cool? Is this in play? Is it bloated backgate?
Is that where we are now? In baseball? We always
have a gate in the NFL? I to have a
gate bloated back gate?
Speaker 5 (12:57):
Are you with it? And if your team or you
got to play.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
On your team that's struggling, would you say absolutely do
this or should they be banned totally? In baseball to
just say all the bats should look the same? Where
are you on this interesting bat scenario in the major leagues?
It is the odd couple on a Magic City Monday,

Speaker 5 (14:40):
Rob before he gets calls, can I can I address
one thing really quick? Yes? So we got a tweet
from Sean Shady who said time for a new lineup
starting at three to six am through eleven pm to
two am. The network is unlistenable? Is Ben mal around
from two to three? Cause I just want to give
(15:00):
him credit. Apparently from two am to three am is
the only hour?
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Is that the only hour?
Speaker 9 (15:05):
I mean?
Speaker 5 (15:06):
He said from three to six all the way through
eleven to two, it's unlistenable. So shout out Ben Maller,
who's on, I believe at three am, because he must
be kicking button taking names everybody.
Speaker 10 (15:17):
We got it.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
By the way, we got a.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
Lot of callers, so it seems as though somebody is
enjoying the show. I just I just want to give
him a shout out. Twenty three hours a day unlistenable,
but that one hour, baby, we're rocket and wrong? All right?
Speaker 3 (15:28):
The new bats, the torpedo bats, yay or nay?
Speaker 4 (15:34):
What's your baseball? Do leave them alone?
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Or should they ban him? And if you have a
team a player on your team struggling, should he maybe
switch to the new bat? Alice in Pittsburgh when the
Pirates of Scotland, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio?
Speaker 4 (15:49):
What's up, Alice?
Speaker 9 (15:51):
Hi? How are you? I just have to laugh because
he says, there a player on your team is struggling.
I'm a Pirates fan and the whole team could have
a torpedo bat. I think we're so a beginning, but anyway,
I think they should be banned. I think that everybody
should have the same size as that.
Speaker 11 (16:08):
I don't know if anybody has an.
Speaker 9 (16:09):
Advantage Like you said, Aaron Judge isn't using it and
he's getting home runs, so I don't know if it
would if anybody has an advantage too that. I think
they should all have the same bat.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Well.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
I guess the specifications match what Baseball said you can have,
and that's why there was no red flag thrown at
the Yankees or some scandal going on. The Baseball even
put out a statement. Thanks for the call, Alice. You
know we appreciate you. Brian in Vegas, you're on the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
What's up beat?
Speaker 12 (16:40):
Hey, what's up guys? A longtime listener, Rob love you.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Man, Thank you man. I appreciate that.
Speaker 10 (16:46):
You know what he is.
Speaker 12 (16:47):
Definitely. Look, I'm in Vegas, but I grew up in
Southern California, so I'm a I'm a Dodger fan. Be
in my Dodger fan my whole life. YEP, I hear
enough about us cheating, buying all the players in the league.
So look, this is about bat it doesn't I don't care.
They can have them as long as the league is
okay with everybody having them, Because as soon as they
say it's okay, I guarantee you all the other teams
(17:09):
in the league are trying to repulicate this because they
already seen the success from it. So if if the
league is okay with everybody having them and all of
the offense going up, which I suspect they probably will,
then then I'm fine with it. But if it's going
to be I have related to like the tush push.
If if you're going to ban that because it's too advantageous, right,
then you know, it just doesn't make sense to me, Like,
(17:32):
you know, they found a competitive advantage, just like the
defensive shift from the Rays a couple of years ago
and then Baseball bandits. So if you're if you're okay
with everybody doing it and offense going absolutely nuts, then.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Then so be it, no doubt, And I got a call.
Speaker 5 (17:48):
I would add this too, is that The other thing
is is that basically to me, it's no different than
like remember Moneyball, it was like, oh, everybody's looking for
guys that draw walks, and then everybody found guys that
draw walks, and then it's not a strategic advantage anymore.
So everyone is gonna get access to the technology, and
(18:09):
then it's just not a big deal anymore.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Brian in Michigan, you're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
What's up, Brian?
Speaker 11 (18:15):
Hey, what's going on? Rob?
Speaker 4 (18:16):
How you buddy? Said hi to Eron?
Speaker 11 (18:19):
Hello Aeron, I see you gave the young blood to
night Off tonight.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Uh, yes, you know me. I'm the worker, I'm the
worker bee.
Speaker 13 (18:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (18:27):
So I've got a perfect analogy for these bats. It's
kind of like, you know, it brings me back to
my younger days when I used to go to the club,
you know, and everything was good, you know, and you
got that perfect woman and she's beautiful and you're having
a good night. But sometimes you have them slumps and
in order to hit the home run, man, you gotta
(18:48):
you gotta get, you know, sometimes the one that's a
little thick around the middle, you go.
Speaker 5 (18:52):
You gotta slump a slumpbuster.
Speaker 11 (18:53):
Right, Yeah, there you go. So, hey, I don't, I don't.
As long as they're legal, there's nothing wrong with them,
do they give them an advantage. I mean, I guess
that's for a computer to tell. But it's exciting for
the fans, I mean, more offense and it's better.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
For us people would no doubt about. People are jumping
out of their seats at Yankee Stadium. Nine home runs
in the game, what's paid for Yankee scored? I think
twenty runs in that game. Uh, Jerome in South Carolina,
you're in the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
What's up, Jerome?
Speaker 10 (19:24):
Baseball is an effort discrease.
Speaker 13 (19:26):
Okay, They're always cheating, They're always lying, They're like deferring money. Hey,
kan Yankee fans, they're always clutching the.
Speaker 10 (19:37):
Pearls no matter how much they win.
Speaker 13 (19:39):
They're always crying.
Speaker 10 (19:41):
Look, I love baseball, but baseball is effort discrease, not
a way to cheat. And that's that little reason Commissioner.
You know he's not gonna do anything.
Speaker 13 (19:51):
How is he gonna discipline the most powerful baseball franchise.
Speaker 10 (19:55):
On the planet? Okay, next to the Dodgers. Do you
do anything to as the tea? Oh no, baseball makes
me sofi sometimes.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
All right, Jerome, not hold him back, I hear you.
How about Ken in Michigan. You're in the couple of
Fox Sports Radio's Squeeze and Ken, how are you good?
Speaker 14 (20:15):
Good?
Speaker 7 (20:15):
Hey? I think the whole thing's just a big syche deal.
I think if it helps the better, make him think
he's bet and better, fine, But if if he's gonna
be a guy that's gonna swing over a ball and
with the thicker bet he's gonna top a big deal
and if he swings underneath him would miss if he
gets a little bit extra thick or what not. It
(20:35):
now he's hitting a pop up. I don't see if
it's gonna do anything except to the mind and the
better and psych out the other team.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
And you know what, Ken, and the other thing too.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
When it comes in home runs, everybody can't hit a
home run man. People think hitting home run just because
you have a bigger bat. That's not what makes you
hit home runs. You have to have a certain swing,
hit the ball lifted in the air. It is there
are a home home run hitters in a lot of
most guys will not home run hit.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
I got Pat Murphy, Bruce Bruce manager. It's not the magician,
it's not the wand it's the magician exactly.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
All right.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
I was interested. Most people were. I was like half
and half. Some wanted a baseball's a scrace, grace.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
No.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
I almost hung up on them, but I let them talk.
All right, you know how? Roll all right, coming up,
let's talk. Well, let's get to an update with mister
Steve de Seger's what I wanted to say.
Speaker 8 (21:33):
All right, let's start with the baseball. Because lefty Garrett
Crochet and the Red Sox have agreed on a six
year contract extension with an opt out after twenty thirty.
How much money, Well, potentially one hundred and seventy million
dollar extension over six years, so that would take him
through twenty thirty one. But there's an opt out after
twenty thirty.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (21:54):
The Red Sox have started one in four. Dh Rafaeldevers
is oh for nineteen with fifteen strikeouts.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Fifteen of the nineteen strikeouts.
Speaker 8 (22:02):
Wow, I think he swung and missed over thirty times already.
And we're not even a full week end of the season.
Baltimore eight to five over Boston today. By the way,
outfielder for the O's Colton Cowser out at least six
weeks with a broken thumb. He injured it sliding headfirst
into first base.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
So you don't do that. Do not do that. Not
do that.
Speaker 8 (22:21):
Philadelphia today was down one to nothing in the seventh
and hit three laid homers and beat Colorado six to one.
The Mets got a grand slam from Pee Alonzo and
one at Miami tonight. Ten to four victories today for
the White Sox and Royals. Cincinnati's Ellie de la Cruz
four for five, seven RBIs, two homers. The Reds win
fourteen to three over Texas. The loss to Kumar Rocker,
(22:43):
and it's just gone final with the Pirates at Tampa
Bay game Rays six to one the final, so the
Pirates are now one and four. Blue Jays lead the
Nationals in the eighth four to two, Cardinals up three
to two on the Angels in the seventh, and the
Giants lead to nothing in the sixth inning at hu
Houon The Dodgers have a late game hosting OH to
(23:03):
four Atlanta Dodgers five to oh Dodger first baseman Freddie
Freeman getting the night off. He's day to day, having
slipped it home and injuring the ankle again. He had
surgery on the ankle in the offseason Braves alfielder Jerks
and Profar was suspended eighty games for ped use. He's
now ineligible for this year's postseason even when he does
(23:23):
come back in July. Profar just starting a three year deal,
so this costs him about seven million dollars. Atlanta had
signed al fielder Alex Verdugo recently, but these Braves, they
were losing close games to start the season. Now they
just haven't scored a run in their last twenty two
innings going back to San Diego to NBA Action, the
Boston Celtics have won eight games in a row. They
(23:44):
are winning mid fourth quarter tonight at Memphis oneh eight
to ninety five al Horford with twenty six points Oklahoma
City with a record of sixty two to twelve. They're
up ninety four to fifty five on the Chicago Bulls
mid third quarter. This would be for Oksee a tenth
straight victory Miami one. It's fifth in a row. Utah
(24:06):
lost at six straight victories for the Clippers in Indiana
and the women's basketball Regional finals, and tonight USC leads
late first quarter eleven eight against Yukon Texas advance to
the final four. Beating TCU fifty eight to forty seven,
as TCU shot twenty seven percent from the floor with
twenty one turnovers. Notre Dames Olivia Miles will reportedly transfer
(24:28):
Men's Final four this weekend. By the way, Stanford's interim
football coach Frank Reich back to you.
Speaker 3 (24:35):

New York, Thanks for joining the Odd Couple. Say hello
to Aaron Torres, filling in for kelvin Washington tonight.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
What's up, Jamie?
Speaker 14 (25:20):
What's up?
Speaker 10 (25:20):
Rob? What's up? Aaron? Good?
Speaker 4 (25:23):
Good to have you, Jamie, No doubt, uh, you know.
Speaker 14 (25:28):
Before there's been a lot of rumor circulating in New
York that Rob is gonna be using a torpedo bagh,
there we go.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
Uh, I don't know, Hey, it would be the first
time he's used some extracurricular.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
That's right, you know, I mean, what was it?
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Was it Teddy Roosevelt speaks softly and carry a big stick?
Speaker 6 (25:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (25:54):
I guess, so anything like that recording Teddy Roosevelt today, Jamie,
let's talk about that?
Speaker 4 (26:00):
Does everyone to start?
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Obviously, when you hit a franchise record nine home runs
and then you know, Michael k points out that bat
on the Yes Network and was all the buzz? What
is New York saying about backgate and the fatty backgate?
Speaker 4 (26:15):
I should say, well, you know, obviously.
Speaker 14 (26:18):
Rob, there's gonna be a different opinions. But I think,
by and large, I think people are looking at it
from the standpoint that Major League Baseball approved the bat
and that the Yankees essentially just playing within the rules
and using technology and analytics to get ahead of everyone else.
And I think that you're gonna see more teams ultimately
(26:38):
using the bat or variation up with torpedo bad. If
the results, the larger the sample size of the results
are positive, then I think you'll see more, more teams
and more players using it. You know, for the Yankees,
Aaron Judges didn't use it, as we you know told.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
I was gonna say that, Yeah, Aaron Judges wants no
part of it. He's doing just fine, which makes sense
to you, doesn't it?
Speaker 14 (26:59):
Absolutely? Absolutely? But then you had you know, Paul Goldsmith. Uh,
you had Jazz Chisholms, Bellingers. So there were several Yankees
and of course bull Pay. It pretty much all started
with you know, Yankees doing a study on Anthony Bullpay
and where what part of the back?
Speaker 10 (27:15):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (27:16):
He seemed to be hitting the ball and having the
you know, best results, and so you know it's gonna be,
I think a matter of the players and you know
what they feel. We know Judge doesn't need a torpedo batman.
He's just absolutely amazing and off fire to start the season.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
And I was going to ask you a follow up
about Judge. You know, he was embarrassed with the missed
drop ball in the World Series, probably cost them that
game right to push the World Series the game six
back in Los Angeles, and that was big because the
Dodgers had run out of pitching. They didn't have any
starting pitching for the last two games and that might
have turned the series. But uh, before the season started,
(27:52):
I thought Aaron Judge would win the MVP again and
try to make up for that. And he's off to
a fantastic start. A year ago, Jamie, you know, people
were booing him because he was hitting so poorly in
a month of April.
Speaker 14 (28:04):
You know that was April. That was April twentieth. What
a difference the year makes to the exact rows, Rob.
Last year April twentieth, Aaron Judge went oh for Forward
Sports strikeouts and was batting one seventy nine after twenty
one games. And I think this prematurely and I think
just irrationally. Fans were bullying him, and so we know what,
(28:28):
you know, the rest is history. He went out to
have a magnificent season, led the league at home runs
and RBI, just third in batting, and won his second MVP.
And again, Rob, you know, you know as well as
I know, we can listen about history man and how
many great players are Often Willie Mays, Barry Bard struggled
in the postseason, and so we have to look at
the largest sample size of a player. And of course
(28:50):
you know your your reputation a lot of times, and
where you were judged in history is based on how
you do in the postseason. But we can't argue with
his regular season results. And as you said, I'm sure
he was motivated to start this season by what took
place in the World Series.
Speaker 5 (29:06):
I may ask you about the other team in town,
New York Mets. We all know Wan Soto era. Yeah,
we're three games and I were not going to oversell
or under sell anything.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
But what's the vibe?
Speaker 5 (29:18):
I know, Rob and Rich Davis, we're arguing if it's
a Mets or a Yankee Stown? Is it officially a Metstown?
What has been the vibe here?
Speaker 3 (29:26):
It was a mess down in nineteen eighty six, that's
the only time I remember, But.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
Four games in, is it officially a Metstown for the
first time since eighty six?
Speaker 14 (29:33):
No, not at all. Not all. The Mets are going
to have to win and win consistently in order for
this to become a metsdown. But Mets fans are excited, energized.
Of course, with the Steve Cohen as the owner, he's
already shown that he's wanting to spend money, that he's
willing to do whatever it takes and he's been prudent
in his spending and how they've been operating. And the GM,
(29:56):
David Stern has done an excellent job in his one
year plus as the GM. And so there there's there's
potful optimism matter because the metsa trending in the right direction.
And by signing one Soto, what you do is now
you have someone who is, you know, truly an anchor.
Lindor has been you know, fabulous at a wonderful season
(30:16):
last year. But to add Soto, now you bring someone
into that lineup that you know is going to be
there for the next you know, seven, eight years, maybe
ten years. And he is arguably the you know, the
best hitting in baseball in terms of just being selective,
hitting for power, hitting for average. And I don't think
it's a new coincidence that that, along with leading the
(30:37):
league at home uns and RBIs last year Averon Judge
led the league in walks batting behind Soto, I think
sort of helped him become more selective. And so Soto
will extend the line up, He'll make the entire mess
liner better. And so again it's let's not you know,
be premature, and you know annoint in this you know,
New York Mets City. But they are turning in the
(30:57):
right direction and the interest of national now for the Mets,
that's really increased.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
How about Profar suspended by Major League Baseball. The Braves
outfielder thirty two years old, UH tested positive for PD's
eighty games suspension, and he's not eligible even though he
gets to come back in June. Not eligible for the
twenty twenty five part postseason at all. That's part of
(31:24):
the suspension, so that you can't come back, just the idea,
you know, all the testing that goes on. UH thought
Baseball for the most part has cleaned up attack, but
obviously there's.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
Still you know, people are still pushing the envelope.
Speaker 14 (31:39):
Yeah, rob it's unfortunate. And I think the number you
just you know, reference thirty two. You know, Profar is
thirty two and had a career year last year, you know,
just to get it for him, you know, a big
contract in three years, forty millions. Some mad you know,
stop at that, but I mean still for him, that
was you.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
Know again, yeah he only played four million dollars last year,
right that.
Speaker 14 (32:03):
I was about to say that Robbie only played for
a million last year. So, uh, you know, you feel
for him, and you know he gave the obligatory apology
and and you know, certainly a defense saying that he
was tested eight times last year and everyone who knows
him knows he wouldn't do this, and perhaps that is true.
I mean, we just don't know. But the the substance
(32:24):
that he uh, that he touched, the positive fall was
a well known MASKI agent for peds and so I
mean it's it's left up to you know, whoever wants to,
you know, to give their opinion and their thoughts and
the views on whether he did it or what he didn't.
But you know, the optics aren't good and the fact
that he's not going to be able to play in
the postseasons, you know, shows that Imagi League Baseball has
made uh you know, PD testing and the consequence is
(32:47):
really prohibitive. So if he did it, uh, it was
it was it was a hard risk to take, and
you know he's paying the price for it in the
braves are as well.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
All Right, one last nugget. We got less than a
minute here, Ellie Day. Look, Cruise went off against the
Texas Rangers four for five with two home runs and
guess what he announced after the game.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
He used a torpedo bat. I didn't even know, Jamie,
Oh my god, here we.
Speaker 14 (33:14):
Go, here we go. I'm telling you, man, But you
know about I mean, listen, minb you've been coming baseball.
You you loved this sport as much as anyone that
I know, brother, for many, many years. And you know,
it's interesting and a baseball doesn't get you know, the
buzz and the juice that the NBA does. And there's
no fundentdent what he is in the term juice the
(33:35):
NBA in the NFL does. I think this is good?
You know, you got you know, just the CNN and
the MSNBC and news stations talk about baseball and a
torpedo batt and so in the fact that it was
the Yankees on all the Dodgers, you know, the signature
franchises in baseball, it was good that it was the
Yankees because now you know, even more people in more
media are covering the you know, the story. So this
(33:57):
is good for baseball. It's opening weeks and you know,
you have people talking baseball as much as you do
the NBA. You know, the NFL definitely.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
Yep, there's no doubt. Definitely a buzz. Jamie Harris is
our guest. Jamie Mann, thank you from the Amsterdam News
in New York. One of the best, my man. We
appreciate you. Yes, thank you, thank you, no doubt. All right,
coming up, it's Last Call time and also h Aaron's
gonna talk about the Saint John's Lewis Junior who r
(34:27):

uh for Saint John's after being benched in their last game.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
That'll be interested.
Speaker 3 (34:35):

Speaker 4 (35:27):
You know that voice is Calvin. You don't understand, you
don't under just the facts, just the facts.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
Okay, look, okay, we're gonna pooh poo that attitude.
Speaker 4 (35:37):
We're gonna poop poo that. That's not what we're going
to do here on this show.
Speaker 14 (35:41):
I'm doing a Rob Parker imitation in case my audience
doesn't know.
Speaker 5 (35:44):
Is that the guy that I was picking on Brownie James.
I think I've heard that voice before.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
Stephen Kelvin. Yeah, all right, guys picking up Ronnie James.
There you go.
Speaker 5 (35:54):
I'm kidding for the perspective of he's allowed to criticize.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
That's part of my job.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
The couple UH coming to your life from the tirech
dot Com Studios. Tractor Supply knows about a winning season.

Tractor Supply for life out here all right. You know what, Aaron,
It's time for last.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
Call, the last.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
It gets, last call, last.
Speaker 13 (36:39):
Call, time on the odle.
Speaker 5 (36:45):
Yes it is is this floor ride?
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Uh? What is this? Justin sure ride? Full right? Hey
it is the uh oh show?
Speaker 10 (36:56):
Right?
Speaker 4 (36:56):
I got you from DC.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
I couldn't see that it said, f you're on the
couple man, you want a last call?
Speaker 4 (37:01):
What's up? How are you?
Speaker 14 (37:03):
I'm doing well, man.
Speaker 15 (37:04):
I appreciate y'all always brod Park. You know I've been
a fan for a long time, Aaron Torres. I've been
a fan of yours and random town flops all through out. Man,
you do your thing as well.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
I appreciate.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
Thank you.
Speaker 15 (37:15):
No for sure man to the torpedo bands.
Speaker 14 (37:19):
Love it.
Speaker 15 (37:19):
Not even gonna lie because to me, like this has
already been a thing. Like you said, it's not a
new rule change. Like a rule change is making the
bases bigger and all of a sudden, show, Hey, towny
gets fifty fifty.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
The right right, No, No.
Speaker 15 (37:31):
Buty's like, oh wow, the fas are easier to get
to it, and it's already.
Speaker 14 (37:33):
Like six five or whatever.
Speaker 15 (37:35):
So I don't have a problem with the bat Like
it's weird to me. If it wasn't the Yankees getting
nine dingers in one game, I don't think we talk
about it. If my Nationals did that, they'd be like,
oh man, what's going on in DC? And it'd be
a party here. Like, I don't think it'd be a
big deal.
Speaker 4 (37:49):
Yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
I think it was the setting a franchise record nine
home runs in the game and everybody thinking that everybody's
using the bat. But I'll tell you, Ellie day La
Cruz tonight going for for five, went two home runs
and then announcing that he used the bat o. The
guys are going to start looking into that.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
And it's a good thing though, if you're a Yankee fan,
because you're just like, look, it's not just it's not
some weird technology. It's like I said, it was like
in Moneyball, it was like, oh, we're looking for this,
We're looking for guys that draw walks. Then everybody did
it and it wasn't an advantage anymore. Isn't that what
sports is literally all about, trying to find that advantage
in football, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, whatever, And right now
(38:29):
this is it and in a month everybody will have
it and it won't even be a story.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
It's interesting, it really is. I'm with you though. Guys
who were playing well waking for whatever, they're not going
to touch it. But the other guys it'll be interesting
to see and pitchers will have to adjust as they
always do.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
Absolutely so, man, what is the New York story? Real quick?
Speaker 5 (38:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (38:47):
Ah, want to talk r J. Lewis real quick, real quick? Yeah.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
No, he's in the portal. It's a bad look. Got benched.
I think Patino benching him in the tournament. Maybe it
was a metaphor that the relationship wasn't as good. But
he entered the portal on Saturday, and I think he's
got a lot of pushback. I'll be curious to see
if he stays. If he stays in the portal, actually transfers,
decides to come back to the draft and he's going
(39:14):
to the drift.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
I think he stays in the draft. Yeah, he'll do that,
all right. Aaron tour is always a pleasure, my man.
We appreciate you. Thank you so much, guys, everybody now,
and Kelvin will be back tomorrow here on the couple
on a trash talking Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
So you want to be here for that.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon is coming up next.
Speaker 12 (39:34):
I never miss your radio show. I never hear it,
so I never miss it.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
Did you hear that, oh Rob,
