And don't forget.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Also coming up in twenty eight minutes, Alex Golden the
creator and host of the Setting the Pace podcast, which
is a podcast for the Indiana Pacers. So we'll do
that a lot of stuff to get to this hour
here on the I Couple.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yeah, Rob, I feel really good about what I told
you the other day, actually yesterday, when you and I
were talking about Game four, and I thought it was
just a great opportunity for the Pacers to go up
three to one in this series. And obviously not saying
they would have won in four to one. Maybe they
lose in Game five and then you know so and
so on for but a chance to win the series.
I thought the Pacers had it at home up ten

(01:58):
against the number one one team, the best team in
the NBA, and that's where you gotta like take that
shot with your foot in their throat, and they weren't
able to.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Yeah, well they're not three one good, right, But what underdogs?
I think you got to remember that, Like you say that,
and I hear what I'm saying is and they were underdogs.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Order to win, I have to do something, you know
what was crazy because I thought, do you start to
cook them?

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Being the the thunder being up.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Three to one wouldn't have been underdogs they would have
been like dominant for them to win three in.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
The five, and that's fine, just like the Pistons word,
that's not a massive underdogs against the Lakers and four
and they dominated that series. So what I'm saying is
when you got a shot to do it. I'm not
saying they should have been up three meeting coming from
you know when it was with the game one, they're
gonna be up three one. What I'm saying is the
opportunity I was there. Everybody you had them loop keep

(02:51):
talking about what I had. Opportunity was there?

Speaker 3 (02:54):
No, let me talk.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
But but I'm saying, but you're acting like you picked
them in five. It means that the Pacers should have
won one game. So now you're saying when they won
two games, they should have won three because they in real.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Life, the opportunity was there. It makes absolutely say it
does in real life. They were up ten at home
heading into the fourth, they had.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
A shot to and the NBA is not a rap
with the three pointer.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
The reason is because you know they should have won,
to be up three to one and.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Go ahead.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
All what I'm saying is realistically, nobody including them, probably
had them think they would be up three to one,
but I'm saying it was there in their face twelve
minutes and we got a chance to be up three
to one in this series and they and it's fine
that they lost, Okay, we'll take it even split us
two to two. But what I knew was, Okay, I
saw what was coming for with the Thunder and what

(03:53):
they did not want to happen. And we'll talk further
about this in a little bit, so I won't spend
too much time on it. Now, is Jalen William starting
to become exactly what you hoped he would be for
the Thunder, not just always a really good complimentary player,
become a very good, too great complimentary player and starting
to get into his bag and starting to build his
confidence up. And now it's a scary situation of your Thunder.

(04:14):
And not to mention we talked about last hour Tyrese
Haliburton being nicked up some with that cash strain. So
I'm looking at it like this, Rob the Thunder now
to me have positioned themselves and this is what was
gonna be interesting for me, is they positioned themselves where
we talk about the average as as twenty four a
little over twenty four years old. They have guys who
can tell are going to be continual All Stars or

(04:36):
perennial All Stars, or guys who right there Cheed Holmgren
should be one at some point. Jdubb first time this
year should be one. Moving forward. SGA, we already know
what he is putting up thirty a games three years
in a row, shooting over fifty percent, MVP of the
league runner up last year. He's not going to change.
In fact, he's only going to get better. And to me,
when I'm looking at what they're able to do right now, Rob,

(04:56):
I'm saying this is looking as if they have a
run to be had for the next five years. I'm
not saying a decade, but in the next five years
they got a shot to win a couple two, go
to the finals two, three times, two to four times.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
To me, they're built that way.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
The way that they're set up with their young guys,
guys they don't have to worry about paying because they're
either rookies or second years. And then obviously you have SGA,
who's going to be the leader of this, who looks
like he's only going to be doing this for the
next seven to eight years at this high caliber. To me,
Sam Presty has built this team the right way defensive
mind at first, which is crazy to also then have
the highest scoring guarding the guy in the league and

(05:35):
also have one of the best offenses. And Jalen Williams
is so key in this because if you have a
one to two punch like this and they both played defense,
this is scary.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
And they had a stretch.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
I was talking around Jo telling them there was a
stretch in this game. The Pacers got it back down
of about four points and you're thinking, here come the Pacers, Okay,
this is gonna be a competitive fourth quarter. Around eight
minutes and Sga showed you why he was the MVP.
It wasn't just the scoring. There was like six possessions
in a row where he had a steal, a block
of steal, hit Jaylen Williams for a couple of shots,

(06:08):
and then knocked down some free throws and that was
the game right there. When the Pacers tried to make
a run, Sga was so good. And I'm just watching
this team thinking they're so well built, they're so defensive minded,
and they have a legit thirty point a game to
the point of he has now more thirty point games
in a playoff run.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Except for Jordan.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
When you're doing things and the only other person on
the list is Jordan, then you're in rare air.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
And I just I love the way that. Is it
easier to score now than when Michael Jordan played? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (06:37):
But what Okay, I'm just asking. Nobody else is doing
what he's doing. I'm just Kobe was the bridge between
the old school.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
It is easier to score now, is all I'm asking.
Is it easy to score now in the NBA? Yes, Okay,
here's what we're talking about.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Here's what I disagree with you. This is like you're
putting the cart horse.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
We just saw it's gonna be seven different NBA champs
and you're already tagging him for like two or three
championships and they haven't even won the first one yet.
They got a great shot because Tyree's Halliburton has heard,
so they do have a great shot. Okay, No, they
were supposed to win five and four with Nix, So.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
No, he said four. A lot of people don't with
no competition.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
But my point is you don't know what's gonna happen,
just like when the Pistons won their championship in two
thousand and four and they decide we don't want to
play that way. They can watch SGA all playoffs and say,
you know what, that push off in that hand. We're
not gonna give him that next year. That that's not
we can't be because you have to give everybody that
if you're gonna allow him to use his hand like ridiculous,

(07:48):
and you can't let them be all over everybody defensively
and you're calling fouls everybody times people get touched. So
you don't know if they're going to change anything defensively
or the way that they call the game all them
if and when they win the championship.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Number two, we saw the Suns, Oh the two and oer.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
You know, how are you gonna stop bookers like Kobe Bryant,
Chris Paul whatever. Oh they're gonna have a run. Oh
what about this team, they're gonna have a run. My
point is, you don't know. Oh the Celtics again, Oh,
how they not gonna win? They just finally broke through.
They're gonna win.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
We don't know. I'm not there to say.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Once they win the first one, then we could take
a look and see what other teams do. And I'm
not saying that, oh, they won't be in the mix,
but I'm not guaranteeing this could be a one off.
It could easily be a one off where they win
and never win again. I've seen it happen. It's happened
to teams before that's had a good team, that everything

(08:50):
worked out that year that they had the best defense.
Is that gonna be every year they have the best
defense and best offense and they're gonna win by thirty
twenty points every night. I'm not convinced stuff that that
other teams aren't gonna do anything basketball, like any sports,
people make adjustments. You watch somebody, you watch teams. You
gotta make adjustments. You're not gonna play the same way

(09:12):
you played this past year when they went on to
go to the championship and they won all these games
by double No. Teams will have to do something and
figure out this is what they get paid for.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Good luck. Like they said in the movie, take It,
that's this team. This team.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
First teams and some of the teams you mentioned were old.
First of all, the sons didn't even they were and
they were up.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
To all I'm talking about No, no, no, I'm asking
you this. When they were up to wall, what did
they say about Devin Booker when they were up to wall,
what did they say that he no, that he was
the next Kobe?

Speaker 3 (09:50):
They crowned him? That has nothing was premature.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
But that's what you're talking is pre much. They are
absolutely not the same team and your whole Chris Paul
was already very old at that point. No team, he
is he a top three? Is it because of his career?

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Not at that season was gonna win a championship? To him?
It's premature, thank you.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
So when we saw the Warriors and we saw what
they were cooking, we said, oh, shoot, this is something
you know and you know what, then they choked down
three to one league. Okay, when we saw the Warriors,
we saw what was coming. When you see when you
see wings and you're able to see two guys who
can specifically wings who in this day and age, this
isn't the era of the team and Shaq and Kareem

(10:41):
where bigs were the thing. This isn't that era now
when you have lockdown wings who can play great defense.
Oh and by the way, put up twenty five to
thirty every night, and you start to see the dominance
and you have a team that is built comprised perfectly
to fit that. That's a scary tandem and that every
teams like every time we see.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
So they winning a championship next year year? Is that
what you'm saying tonight.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
I'm saying, I don't know. I gotta see the free
agency's thing. But what I'm saying is their absolutely conversation
to know. What I'm saying is they're going to be
in the mix, just like the Celtics w in the mix.
What I'm saying is the Celtics went to two finals,
they won one, they lost one. But if you look
at their five six years, you would say we had
a heck of a run. We went to two finals,
we won one, and we had a great run Eastern

(11:24):
Cons finals. This team can have a five six years
run where they get to two or three finals, maybe four.
When we see a two wing combination a Lebron and
d Wade, a Lebron and Kyrie, A, Stephen Klay, Thompson,
Pippin and Jordan, when you see defensive wings, when you
see wings that can dominate who are in the prime
like this and then Honie Jay Williams ain't even in

(11:45):
his prime yet you start to say, oh, shoot, that
have the perfect comprised team. This team, to me, will
absolutely have a run for four to seven years where
it wouldn't be shocked if they're in the finals. I
expect multiple from them. I suspect this.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
What does that mean?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
What does that mean?

Speaker 3 (12:02):
What are they gonna win? The chack?

Speaker 4 (12:04):
I just said, they're going to win multiple finals? Okay, Okay,
they're going to win most this This team will win
multiple finals. Whether that in the six year run ends
up being two, whether it's three, they will win multiple finals.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
You can book that. Just okay, you book it. I'll
remember it, you please.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
If they don't win this year, you'll you'll come up
with an excuse why didn't win this year?

Speaker 3 (12:24):
You know they they they better win this year. That's horrible, horrible.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
If they didn't, you still would feel the same way, Yes,
because in order for me to feel that way, then
they have to run off. Like I said, a four
to six year window, and I fully expect it's time
to do so.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
I just I just think it's premature. How else would
I what would I what would I do this? And
after the sixth year, when they already ran through that, I.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Feel they're gonna do after you win one and then
you see what the absolutely and you see what the
Lakers did, and you see what Golden State does.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Take it doesn't.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
Matter what anyone does, if they're gonna be in the
mixed regardless.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
They will be in the mix, regardless of anyone in
the mix.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Is not that the Lakers have been in the mix
the last five year? What does that mean? The Lakers
have been in a real mix. I'm talking they picked them.
Most people picked them to go to the Western Conference Finals.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Yes, this team won.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
The eight people picked the Lakers to be in the
Western Conference Finals.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
I don't know most.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
There are absolutely people who did. I don't know the most. Okay,
that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
They picked a lot of people. Tell you the most.
Once they picked I could show you what. I'll show
you the rundown. Once they got Luca, Oh, you don't
want to see Lucas and that and here's the difference.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Here is the difference.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
YEA, when you get and you get Michael Jordan, who
is twenty six seven eight and who's.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Twenty people from saying that because they were older.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
Tell me talking about what people telling me. I'm telling
you what I'm telling you. I don't know what people
other people telling you. I'm saying. When you get guys
in their wing Steph and Clay in their mid upper
twenties who are together, unified as a team, and they
have an identity, they can go on a run. When
you have a d Wade and Lebron who are in
their mid and upper twenties at that point, you can
go on a run. When you gotta pip In and Jordan.

(14:10):
You can go on a run like this with defensive
minded teams who have a lead guard who can score
a bucket at will anytime like an SGA, and an
MVP candidate looks like he will be for the next
handful of years as well. To me, this is how
you create a run. And you saw what the Soolkers.
They've had a heck of a six seventy and they
might blow it up now, but they had a heck
of a five to six to seven year run with

(14:30):
the Jalens, Jalen Brown and Jameson Tatum, I mean with
the Jays, And to me, this is looking like the
West Coast version of that, with maybe even greater a
greater ceiling.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
All right, we've got a big controversy building in the
NBA Finals.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
We'll get to that next.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
It is the odd couple right here on Fox Sports
Radio on a trash Talking Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (14:51):

Speaker 4 (15:12):
Rob partner Kevin Washington. I couple on the trash Talking Tuesday.
We're going but going up on a on a Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
I can't even get Rob's attention because when he turns
to the right, he's got the Yankees and Caitlin Clark.
I mean, I don't know. I can't even believe you've
done the show of me for an hour and a half.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Rob.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
You're so into these games right now, specifically the w
NBA game.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Rob, I'm saying, you know you can't stop watching Kaitlin.
Don't ignore me. Rob knows she could have saved the
All Star weekend. She could have you talking with MBS.
That's power.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
You remember when Rob Kaitlin Clarks you're playing the NBA.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
That was my favorite take and I was right right
ready for a new job. Let explore maybe Kate new
job NBA.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
The only thing is there's about four other guys who
came up with that after me, So I'll take I'll
take credit over, go ahead, google it.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
I'm not the only.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
One shots those other people. All right, it's getting fighty
in this game too.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
It's all good. Not you the game, the w NBA
game that we're watching so uh intentionally.

Speaker 4 (16:21):
That you're watching that Express Employment Professionals, What did you
say to Roger? You said, man, thanks for putting his
w NBA game on. Robber, you said, I got you
while Express he could He didn't know anybody else on
either team. He's just he's just like what you call.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
He called you fairweather. He is like a lot of people. Roger,
you better tell w AC they don't even know what
they're watching, like a big Boston Kay. Yeah, okay, we'll
play this game.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
Rob The channel I changed was a Toronto Blue Jays game.
Give me four Blue Jays players.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
I don't have job for that, I give you give
me one w y play NBA player Leah Boston.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
You don't know who that you just saw.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Your name's the coach? Who's the coach of the where's
the Connecticut team? Where are they based? What's the name
of that team? Connecticut? Connecticut was the Sun? Where are they?
Where are they? Nowhere in Connecticut?

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Hartford? Are they? I have no idea about it. Nobody
could say you're right a wrong Roger, So just own it.
Just own it. I can say, Steve keep his mind
OUs and he doesn't tell us if we're right or wrong.
Suburban Connecticut right there you go.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
And Connecticut is the size of my phone. So if
you just say Connecticut, it'll work our Hartwerd You'll be
perfectly fine. By the way, last point, while Express helps
people in all industries, including Kaitlin Clark, maybe go to
the w N or the NBA Courtney rob Our sweet
spot is logistic roles that Express never charge the job
seekers I feed go to expresspros dot com. All right, Uh,

(17:53):
real quick? You watching you know obviously Game five of
the NBA Finals.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
Uh. Jaylen Williams goes crazy here.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
This is coming off of twenty five I believe it
was in twenty seven and then forty. There's three straight
games of I think ninety one points total into the
last three games for him. He's been incredible. So rob
we've seen this happen before, where the kind of the
traditional guy you think is gonna get an MVP. You know,
if it's if it's Steph Curry doesn't happen, it goes,
if it's Jason Tatum doesn't happen, so on and so

(18:21):
forth down the line, we might be in a situation
where if this ends in game six, May it doesn't
really matter game seven as well, but specifically the game
six for this argument's sake, I think Jalen Williams may
mess around and steal this thing if he has another
thirty five point game and SGA just kind of does
what he does. Say it's twenty six, twenty seven to
twenty eight, just a normal game for him. Jalen Williams

(18:43):
might mess around and steal this MVP, but it's gonna
have to be something spectacular. I think he's gonna have
to absolutely dominate. I think he's gonna, as you know,
like I said, thirty five to forty, because traditionally You're
gonna give it to the guy of a team. If
it comes down to being close, right, you're gonna just say,
we're gonna give it to the guy, and in this case,
the MVP of the league. So Jalen Williams's only chance
to steal it will be a getting another thirty five
forty point performance where you can go.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
Not always Steph Curry didn't win it. How did they
give it? And I know you don't like him, but
what do you mean I don't like it?

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Not anything personally talking about him. Oh don't like cool Lebron.
Why couldn't they give it to Lebron? You don't give it?
I mean, like, really, you're actually let me ask you
this from a voting extend.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
I'm really asking from a vote you have.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
I know his Hall of Fame is an you know,
NBA Finals vote, But I'm just saying, if the best
player in this thing by far, But mind you, I
get if it's close, right, then obviously gonna go to
winning team. But it's not even close by far. It
was Lebron, like, not even in the same strategy.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
You gotta win.

Speaker 4 (19:41):
Can there be the one time you got Jerry West
in another time fifty years later, meaning like if every
forty because they knew when.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
They did it with Jerry West, it was ridiculous that
the only way you could it could be is if
he totally played grade and somebody made a miraculous shot
at the end to win it.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
You know what, I'm that close. He was lost it
the Rims exactly.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
And other than that, like in a Game seven and
the guy has a lucky shot that drops him, but
he totally dominated. I could see in a situation where
that But when you lose the series, it's got to
go to a player who helped the team win in
the championship.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
I just I'm with that ninety nine point nine percent
of the time. But I think when you see something
that was just so drastic, like him taking Timothy mosk
Off and Tristan Thompson and Matthew Delavdova to Game six
against the Warriors, I just think and ravaging like thirty five,
twelve and twelve or whatever every nine again, Rob, I mean,
even if it was if it was a World Series,

(20:40):
if some guy had seven home.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
Runs, I would never I never believe in that, because
when when the Angels beat the Giants and Barry and
had all these home runs and it was a seven
game series and they lost.

Speaker 4 (20:54):
He didn't he didn't get I just fell like every
nine again, you name the sport, you see something that's
so incredible, you gotta go. Okay, I disagree with that,
but yeah, we'll see if Jaylen Williams again. I think
he does another light like last night. He has a
chance to steal this from SGA. But it's gonna be
hard because he is the reigning MVP. All Right, on
the way, Alex Golden, creator and hosts of the Setting
the Pace podcast for the Indiana Pacers. We'll talk with

(21:15):
them next. Right now, Steve the Seger, what's trending?

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Steve?

Speaker 2 (21:18):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm Eastern,
four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio
app on.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
A Trash Talking Tuesday, which we're getting close to. So
we have a lineup now, right, what do you think
started lining up a little bit? Maybe a little bit?
All right, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox. If you want to
line up now for Trash Talking Tuesday. You can do
that now get eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
But right now Alex Golden, creator and host of the
Setting the Pace podcast for the Indiana Pacers Alex Golden
NBA on X Make sure you followed there, Alex, what's up?

Speaker 3 (21:54):
What's happening?

Speaker 6 (21:56):
Hey, what's going on?

Speaker 5 (21:57):
Guys?

Speaker 6 (21:57):
I'm doing well?

Speaker 3 (21:57):
How are you doing good? Doing good?

Speaker 4 (21:59):
We got to a compelling NBA Finals. You know, we
got three to two. A lot of people thought the
Pacers had no chance, and then here they are still
end this thing. Uh just but I guess we'll leave
with the news right now. That cash strain for Tyres Halliburton.
Do you think that's what slowed him up game five?
And how serious is is moving forward? You expect them

(22:19):
to play?

Speaker 3 (22:20):
What do you think?

Speaker 6 (22:22):
Yeah, I definitely think have slowed them up in Game five,
But I also will say of Oklahoma's defense has been
just incredible against them, So I think there's a little
bit of both there. You don't want to just take
away what they've done defensively. But yeah, he was not
He did not look like himself last night at all.
We've we've seen kind of Haliburton do this. You know,
play a really well one game and then kind of
fall back down to reality the next game and then

(22:42):
have a you know, bounce back game after that. So
we'll see what happens here. I wouldn't be surprised if
you know, he does play through a little bit of
an injury. I would just say with the Achilles terrorist
to Damian Lillard and Jason Tatum with it, when it
comes to a sore cafe, you just got to really
be careful. And I know you're not in the NBA
finals that often if you're in the Indiana pace, but
you got to be careful too with your long term

(23:02):
future here. If you're Tyre's Aliburton, you don't want to
overdo it. If it is a little bit serious, and
you know that to a certain degree, you know the
grades higher than people think it is, it's not really
worth it to go out there and hurt yourself even
more if you're if you're potentially that injured.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
And also, isn't there like the idea that if he's
not going to be himself, he's hurting the team going forward.
And I understand everybody wants to give it a go,
be there for their team, even if it's just inspirational
in the beginning, but at some point don't you have
to evaluate and go he's just not effective.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (23:38):
I mean it's a great point as well, because at
the end of the day, if he's not able to
be Tyree's Halliburton, he's just out there kind of being
a deco way. I don't think that's best for the Pacers.
We call this Pacers team last year, right, we saw
this Pacers team last year without Tyre's Haliburton at home
with Andrew and Imhart as the point guard and no
Benedict Matheren take the Boston self down to the wire

(24:01):
and back to back games and games thuring games four.
So obviously you can say, okay, so he's a better
Kim than Boston was last year. That's debatable, but I
think that for in the end, they have to feel
confident that they can win without Haliburton because of how
well they've played at home all season long and the
role players they have and have stepped up.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
Yeah, I think I think they're definitely capable of making
it a game even if he's you know, hobbling a
bit or only plays twenty minutes or so. That's the
advantage Alex when you're deep like that, when you're not dependent.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Especially his usage rate is so low.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
He's not like a Luca or a you know, some
other guys who have to James Harden in his prime
have to have the.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
Ball so much.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
When you look at this series up, Jalen Williams is
starting to come alive. He's getting in the paint at will.
He's gonna be layups and dunks into the free throw line.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
What change?

Speaker 4 (24:46):
Is there something you notice or is it one of
those you got to take away something? Maybe taking away
Sga a little bit. He got to give up something
in order to succeed. What's happening where he's been able
to twenty five, twenty seven, forty points.

Speaker 6 (24:57):
It doesn't matter who the papers have put on him.
So far, he's been able to get to the basket
at any at any point in the step back three.
He was sitting that in Game five, which he hadn't
been shooting so well on the pull up threes. But
his mid range game looks good. He looks great defensively
as well. I've suggested on our podcast that the Pacers
maybe try putting Pascal Siakam on him and finding someone

(25:17):
else for an em hard to because mean Nie Smith's
a guard, because I just feel like Aaron Eatmith has
not been able to keep up with Jalen Williams. Jaalen
Williams is much bigger, taller, stronger than Aaron Easmith, and
Aaron Eathmith is style prone, so I just think maybe
if you throw a bigger body at him, like a
Pascal Siakam, could have disrupted him a little bit. And
it is great to see Jalen Williams coming out like
this because in the first two games of this series,

(25:38):
I was kind of like, is he really their number two?
Is this the best version they can get a Jalen Williams?
But games three and four or five he has been unbelievable,
So yeah, I think that maybe the Pacers try Pascal
Siakam on him, or maybe they throw a couple of
double teams at him. See if lou Dort and Shed
and those kind of guys can hit from three, which
they've been up and down all year long, so I
think that might be another wrinkle. But yeah, I just

(25:58):
throwing something different a him because I obviously he's not
bothered at all by Aaron.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
NEI Smith did you feel like.

Speaker 1 (26:05):
When when the postseason started, like this was an extension
or the next step from what happened last year and
went when they went to the Eastern Conference Or is
this kind of different from that?

Speaker 3 (26:17):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Because they were underdogs against the Bucks, underdogs, against the Calves,
underdogs against the Knicks, who they beat in seven games
last year in the second round, you know what I mean?
Like it with the whole way through, people just had
no faith in the Pacers.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
Was this an extension of last year or was this different?

Speaker 6 (26:38):
I think I think it was an extension just because
last year, sure they probably shouldn't have made it to
the Eastern Conference finals.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Right?

Speaker 6 (26:44):
If the Bucks have Giannaslthy, do they beat the Pacers
in a seven game series? I think the odds would
probably say yes. But you know, Jiannis didn't play. Lillard
was heard that kind of stuff, and I think, of course
the Knicks got hurt as that series went along. You're
Andrew nim Harden, you know, prayer three last year away
from being three to oo to New York. So I
just think Indiana kind of heard all the negativity that

(27:04):
was saying in that their run to the Fire Eastern
Conference Finals last year was a fluke, and they wanted
to kind of prove to people that was wrong. So
I think that kind of is the extension that gave
them that extra motivation to say, hey, you know what,
we're going to prove everybody wrong. And then once they've
got nim Hart and Nesmith's back healthy, they've been unbelievable
since the beginning of January. I mean, they had the
second best record in the NBA, and it's kind of
telling because that's where they're at now against the team

(27:26):
that had the best records in the NBA since January,
and that's Oklahoma City Thunder. So I just think that
for the Pacers, they figured things out defensively, they took
a drastic step forward, their bought into what coach Carlisle was,
you know, putting into place, and coach Busk and in
Jim Boylan as well. So they've they've done a very
good job of that. And you know, I just think
that they were able to prove everybody wrong and all

(27:48):
those people that were doubting them just because they're kind
of built differently, right Mike, you guys mentioned earlier, they
don't have that lucaside player, that Giannis type player. They're
a true team and people don't really see that when
they're making you know that the betting on was like, Oh,
I'm gonna bet for Indiana because they're leading. You know,
they're leading score averages nineteen points a game. That's not
normal for a team to make the finals of their
leading score being in that nineteen to twenty range. So

(28:11):
I just think they kind of caught people by surprise
that don't really watch them that much. And now they've
got a chance to see them, they see how much
of a team they actually are.

Speaker 4 (28:18):
Yeah, they're not gonna catch any by surprise again next year.
Alex Golden our guest now creator and host of the
Setting the Pace podcast for the Pacers with Robin Kelvin
Nyack couple on a trash talking Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
So I'll go to this.

Speaker 4 (28:31):
Let's say they lose, whether be six or seven, but
let's just say they do or even if they win,
is this sustainable? Do you think I feel the thunder
right here to stay for the next minimum, you know,
four to five six years where maybe they win one
every couple of years, but they're in the absolutely in
the mix.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Are the Pacers that in the East.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
Do you feel like this can be something sustainable or
is this just a small, limited window?

Speaker 3 (28:54):
What do you think?

Speaker 6 (28:55):
Yeah, it's a good question. I think for the majority
of this core, they are pretty young. Miles Turner will
be thirty next year if they try to if they
bring him back in the summer. Pascal siakams in his
thirties as well, so Pej Mcconiughs. They do have some
veterans with them, but for the most part, their core
around Tyr Salburn is in their mid to, you know,
early twenties. So I think it is sustainable, especially when

(29:16):
you look at the landscape of the Eastern Conference, who
already saw the Magic go after Desmond Vane, you know,
the Lillard's going to be out for the Bucks. No
Jason Tatum for the majority of the season next year
for Boston. So I do think that there is a
window open for them right now, and I think there's
going to be one for them for the future. So
I do believe it's sustainable. They just I think they
have to like look internally and say, you know what,

(29:36):
this is a really good team, but can they make
this roster better to compete you know, for championships and
not just you know, the Eastern Conference.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
And we're the fans, I know, last thing, we got
less than a minute. You know, when your team gets
to the championship, obviously you want to win. But everybody was,
you know, they've been underdogs the entire way. Well, how
will they accept this? Will they be really her or
will they be like, you know what, what a run?
This was what we saw like three or four memorable

(30:06):
games that we've never seen before and whatnot. How do
you think it'll compute to the masses, you know of Indianapolis.

Speaker 6 (30:14):
Yeah, I think since they haven't been to the finals
in twenty five years, fans will remember this as a
positive experience because of all the great heroic shots they
saw from Tyres Talibert to get to this point. I
think they'll also be really upset just knowing they didn't
get it. They didn't pull out Game four when they
had the lead for the majority of the game and
could have gone up three games to one against the
thunder with you know, a chance to win in the
final three games. So I think they're always going to

(30:36):
look back at that and reflect on that gut punch
of a loss. But overall, I think, you know, give
it some time to let the wound heal. People will say, man,
that was one of the most fun experiences I've ever
had as a Pacer. Fans, I think they'll be it'll
be viewed as a happy moment, regardless if they win
or lose.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
Yeah, it's been a far right for sure. And Rob
and I both have admitted, you know, we didn't have that.
We weren't evenally talking about the Pacers this year kind
of just snuck under the radar. And so it's good
for them they've gotten this far and Tyre's and giving
us a postseason to remember.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
We appreciate you, Alex, Thank you so much. Man.

Speaker 6 (31:04):
All right, thanks guys.

you gotta just get your get your thought out, just
do whatever you want to do.

Speaker 6 (32:55):
Calvin here he pick.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Well, he he picked the pacers and six.

Speaker 6 (33:02):
That's say you listen to me, man, besides what I say.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
No, man, I don't even know what you're talking. I'm trying. Okay,
we're trying.

Speaker 4 (33:13):
Here are you saying? You picked the thunder? Is that
what you what are you? What are you getting at?

Speaker 1 (33:19):
All?

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Right?

Speaker 5 (33:20):
Thanks for what I said.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
You said that'd be a good series, like long like
what what.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
About them being in the pace everybody said the praise
is gonna get knocked out in five or four.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
That's all all right, Oklahoma City, they're.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
Rob Yeah, the one he wanted to smoke with you
and you would be because it's the wrong segment, because
if were trying to give them their time. We try
to give them the time during trash talking Tuesdays. We
couldn't really do that, you know.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
Eighty seven seven you he keep calling with boxing gloves on, Rob. Yeah,
but you got to come with something. He didn't say anything.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
I don't have an argument there. I'm trying to Philip Philip.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
Philip Philip came at me, Rob, you a wrong I
told you that's what we want. Give me some passion,
give me something. There was nothing there other than like
we were supposed.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
To right with eight seven seven ninety nine Fox with
no trash talk. I told you said it earlier. Top
of the show. Is you coming in here just because
you're getting skinny? When then get adjust get a bigger
belt or a smaller belt, a smaller belt.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
If I have a belt on, it's one thing.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
If I came in and I had no belt on,
see whatever, my pants will fall on.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
Roger say, I'm trying, Alex. This is what's going on,
the same way he fat shames us. It's the same
way that he is out here, like, Oh, you know
what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna wear this belt that
I know won't keep my trousers up. So I'm gonna
wear this. So then somebody go, oh, rob your pants.
Sat Oh, I've lost thirty pounds. You can't help it.

(34:48):
Did you know how googled and your butt goes first?
But then you got I don't need to google it.
I know it because I you do this annually.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
My pants fall off when I start losing weight first.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
So they have a belt. Wait, wait, wait wait, wait,
you said you what you know? So then you choose
not to get a smaller bell, so you know this
is gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
And I'm saying, I'm saying this has happened, This has
happened before.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
Where my belt? Where my pants? Just uh droop a little?

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Rob?

Speaker 3 (35:17):
How many? How many years has he done the six
and six? Six?

Speaker 4 (35:19):
I can get fat as I want. I don't care six,
I'm gonna get skinny his head, Yes, yeah, four of them. Okay,
So he knows the routine at this point, right, and
he's probably stopped.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
At Marshals w or a ross on the way to work.
We know that.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
And you say, let me get a smaller bell, so
so they don't have to bear my cheeks, because don't
nobody when we are happy that you're losing weight. They
noticed this too, Rob and Alex. We're excited for his way.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
We apply.

Speaker 4 (35:41):
Hey, man, you're doing your thing, know it, Alex, you've
been here, You've heard us celebrate when you stick to it.
You stick to it. He fat shames us. He you
haven't heard a line of support like, come on, man,
you can do it. You can do it. It's fat
shaming and matter of fact, it doesn't even publicly tweeting us.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Oh, Rob, is that just motivation? Motivation?

Speaker 4 (36:00):
I want them to do well. I want them to
lose a few people. You're showing your butt. Yeah, you're
showing you today.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
All right, Hey Benjamin in LA you're in the couple
of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
Who are you trashing? Benjamin?

Speaker 1 (36:18):
Benjamin? You know what I'm about? That is that maybe
that's not his name, man, that's what it was. Yeah,
we're happenings ever since Robin on that we go, robb
has been actually.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
We got we got phone issues going on to Yeah,
I want to fuck it out, but we do got
some issues right now. All right, Robbie, what we got?

Speaker 5 (36:38):
Thanks for telling America that I'm trashing all of these
self righteous members of the media. We're going after friend
of the show, Steve A. Smith uh for playing solitary
dur in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
I do agree with this Tank. Actually, like some of
y'all have.

Speaker 5 (36:50):
Never pulled out a phone during a game and texted
a guest or texted a front office executive.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
Let me get your thoughts on what's going on, Robie.

Speaker 5 (36:59):
And it's not like you can't watch the game with
one eye on your phone and what like. It's not impossible.
I don't understand that. It's just they don't like game,
and it's it's a low hanging fruit.

Speaker 4 (37:11):
See you to me, You made it make too much sense,
you said texting someone, They can say this is work. No, no, no.
They also hit Twitter. They also hit the grand They
also get on an email. They might you know what
I mean. So you're at least making it you you
were get cutting them slacked by saying office GM, I'm
texting work. So no, they get on something to stop it.
Forty eight minutes, two and a half hour.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
Game.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
You got on something for a minute there. They want
to get put the camera on me, give me the microphone,
leave me alone. I play something.
