Speaker 3 (00:24):
Get this putties you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
That's right, it is the Final Hour with I Couple
on the Magic City Mondays.
Speaker 5 (00:36):
You just heard Kelvin Washington.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Martin Weiss is in the building right now for Rob
who is on vacation. Hopefully you're having a good one
and enjoying us. Monday, which a good first first summer
first weekend of summer was officially on Friday, so hopefully
you had a good one with the family and friends
getting out there and enjoying it. Not too bad around
here in southern California. On the way, Antonio Daniels, ad
(00:58):
hardest working man in show business, going to join us
here at the bottom of the hour. We'll talk to
NBA Finals with him, also some trades as well in
the NBA. Looking forward to hear what he has to say.
And then last call always loved hearing from you as well.
Get ready for that eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox coming up. And just a little bit on the way, Martin,
you and I were having a conversation about injuries, man,
(01:19):
even just during the break, just talking about it. Man,
it's just a different day and age. Man, Rob G,
I don't know if your daughter is just she. I
know she does gymnastic. She playing sports, you know, like baseball, softball,
t ball, soccer. Okay, is it not weird how young
they're starting? Like we all played. I was just talking
(01:39):
to Martin and all we all played sports, but my
oldest started at two and a half is going on
three is jersey the ball and again and not playing
full on games or anything. But like, I don't remember
playing sports at two and a half. Three, Like this
is crazy. And it's from then on it starts to
get more and more serious and from then on to
(02:00):
you start to get these specialized or these athletes doing it.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
Am I tripping? I don't remember doing all that that young?
Am I tripping? Either one of you?
Speaker 2 (02:08):
No?
Speaker 6 (02:08):
I mean I remember my first like organized team, like
actually competitive trying to wins them. Wasn't until I was
like in the fifth grade right now, like no, Like
it was like, hey, there's a trophy, this is the
big league, there's a draft, this is a big thing.
Speaker 7 (02:21):
I remember going to basketball tryouts and tryouts was strong. H.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
I was going into the what would have been first grade.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
See, I don't remember that, and I'm older than both
of you, and I'm not saying it didn't exist for
somebody my easy be like, yo, no, I remember that.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
I don't remember.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
I remember getting busy around fourth gradish, like because you played.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
I think what it was for me. I played any
and everybody.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Around the neighborhood, going crazy from you know, a couple
of blocks up whatever, and so that was it for me.
So we were talking off the air, summer basketball just
outside playing and then football whatever, baseball, just going crazy.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
That I didn't necessarily need it to be as organized.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
He's not looking back my lifestyle, you know, a d
But it didn't consist of that where I would have
had that until I finally got around fourth gradest fourth fifth,
you know. And then to what we were talking about
playing in direct league. That's when he got serious, right,
he's now I'm playing all this team, Oh my man,
and them they're from across town. Oh shoot, okay, the
North Maple kids can play all this high Cone kids
over here, and we're going back and forth playing and
(03:22):
then he got serious. But even then, you can't even
join your middle school team because you got to do
the innermural too. That was my thing, like we were
talking about.
Speaker 7 (03:29):
I played rec league basketball, or what would call bitty
ball down in Louisiana. But I played against the guys
who I was going to first and second and third
and fourth grade, like they were from the various schools
in the area. But we're all playing in our own
essentially neighborhood, right.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
We weren't traveling to go play.
Speaker 7 (03:50):
I went to a high level high school, and I
mean with the high school that's put a lot of
athletes into the Division one basketball, football, and basketball, they
weren't traveling to go I'm I mean, they're traveling around
the state of Louisiana, obviously playing road games, but the
idea that they would play a team from Nevada is
just ridiculous, right, That's just not a reality. I think
(04:11):
that if the NBA is really concerned about this, and
I think that maybe they're not, because as as visible
as the last eight achilles injuries have been is kind
of an uptick.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
But it's like, is this a blippery trend? Right?
Speaker 7 (04:28):
So maybe and I get it, like nobody want don't
want anybody to tear their achilles, but there is some
cost of doing business just in playing the sport.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
I would be interested to think, and I think it would.
Speaker 7 (04:41):
Be help a lot in just kind of the way
we view American basketball in general.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
They the NBA should really consider, especially with Nil, the
way it is.
Speaker 7 (04:54):
Being able to put together some sort of academies of
sorts where because what is the problem, The problem that
we're talking about that we're all saying is you want
inherently I'm not a parent, but you want your kids
to make it right.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
You want your kids to make it so right.
Speaker 7 (05:09):
Now your kids are at an age where it's probably
pretty hard to tell who's that much better than others.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
But eventually you'll see it.
Speaker 7 (05:16):
And I've been around enough eighth graders to know you
know it before then, right, you can see a sixth
grader who should be it feels like it should be
in the ninth grade.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
And all of a sudden, he just keeps going and
going and going.
Speaker 7 (05:25):
So you're as a parent exposing your kid as many
different opportunities, coaches, whatever, because you want them to make it.
But that's I think where the lack of regulation comes
in in that, Like nobody wanted me to play again
like if I but if they had wanted me to
play on a highlight like I would have played on
four AAU teams because I.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Gotta get seen, I gotta get I gotta get exposure.
Speaker 7 (05:50):
So if there's this scenario where the NBA could have
some sort of like academy level place right right now
was an AAU and that kind of runs a thing,
but an academy level place that has all times and
oft times and it gives guys the ability to rest
there is not basketball to be played at a high
level in this moment of time, then I think that
would be honestly for the best. We see that overseas exactly.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Do you know Tony Parker's story, if you know Dirk's story,
These guys get snatched up at like twelve thirteen, and
essentially they go to college, they're in adorned away from
the family, hours away from the family some cases, maybe
even a country over you know, and you're at they're
all kind of bunched up, and you're there and you're
just in this this new system, and eventually you're good enough.
You're fourteen fifty, you're playing with pros. We saw this
(06:34):
if you watch the Olympic, I forgot the exact title
the Olympic documentary. You saw France how they do it.
They snatch them a quarter gold. Think it's quarter gold
and that sounds something something like that.
Speaker 7 (06:44):
The one where Anthony Evers told Barack Obama, I'm like
that he did he told him that. That was like,
I was like, I don't know if I love this
or brother showed some respect.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
I was torn.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Robs like, go, that is correct? Tight, Okay. My point
is you saw how they do it in France. They
just they got all these guys early and they kind
of build them up. They build the system. But to
your point, it's regimenting, right. We got doctors, we got this,
we have trainers, like you're in this, this well run
organized thing, and I just think we're in a place
where that's just unhaned. Many these guys are playing. They
(07:15):
play their entire high school year. Go right in aau
five six games on a Saturdays, five six seven on
a Sunday traveling, and I think there's a competition and
the depressure of social media. If I don't have a mixtape,
that's crazy. If I ain't playing this guy, I gotta
ow Mark Wie's the number one kid. I gotta go
play him, and then I gotta put the video up.
And then I got a head and it's like, I
think they're doing so much. By seventeen, they got brands
(07:37):
that did this. We've been knowing about their mixtape since
they were twelve. Dude, we knew about Zion for like
seven years. You see this middle school kid, he mighty bait.
Speaker 7 (07:45):
Same way if you go and watch Jeff Tigue's clips
about when he was coming up, he talks about the
guys in Indianapolis that he was going against.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
This is about being king of the city.
Speaker 7 (07:56):
It was not necessarily about being king of even the
Midwest or of the country at that point in time.
Because when Jef Zieg was in high school, the idea
that you knew you didn't even know what Michael Beasley
was doing. It was in Chicago, and this is right
around down the way. Like Greg Monroe. I played in
high school basketball against Greg Monroe and then found out
(08:16):
three years later because I had moved after the hurricane.
Find out three years later Greg moan Roe was going
to Georgetown to play basketball.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
Like that, dude, We played like that, the Greg Monroe
that was six two and a half graade.
Speaker 7 (08:25):
Now you ain't the Grossburg dude, but like that that
Greg mon Roe.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Dude, Rogie, I know you got a question. Let me
just co sign this story. So I'm a little older
than you. We're playing. Now, I have the high school
gator who would be this year, you know, the year
that I'm talking about in high school, my senior year,
he would become high school Player of the Year. He
went to Michigan, So you you know him, Lavelle, you know,
Oh yeah, sure, dude, he's a high school gatoray player
the year. Bruh, it's nice. Clearly, we go into a
(08:54):
Thanksgiving tournament. Guess who we're playing against. Well, I'll tell
you the moment. So we're going in the tournament. Now,
it's Thanksgiving, so most people it's up in East Lansing
where Michigan State is. Most people obviously all the kids
are home for Thanksgiving, all the college kids. So the
only people twenty people maybe in a game, right, a
couple of parents, a couple of maybe a scout, and
a couple of girlfriends, and that's pretty much it.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
I know who this is.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
So we go into the next day's game that's been
the basis of about fifteen people, twenty people, third people.
We go into the next game, Robbio, now you know,
you go get your bucket. We see cheerleaders, dancers, people,
there's about three hundred people. Robgi like, what is going on?
And this other team is warming up and we go
into it. Were warming okay, we all get on the
(09:36):
little bench.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Now.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Coaches like all right, We're like, why is this game different?
You know that time is oo okay? Is that whoever
else was popping into that? You know that time of
the coaches? And we were used to it because of
our guys. So you used to coming to school and
you see some big top dotch coach.
Speaker 7 (09:52):
Now I just quickly is just this guy played at
a school that is named Detroit, but can't be farther
from it.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
No, okay, I know who you're talking about. No, no, no,
this he ended up playing in the city in which
we were in. Okay, So rob G this person would
go on to have a really nice NBA career, averaging
dagnar eighteen for like a decade, a couple of Dunk
Contest awards. We're going up against where in the mill?
Why's everybody here? Coach goes, all right, everybody warmed up?
K oh, he's playing tagging off. There we go, dude,
(10:23):
says our coach. This is how you know Marg's point
of the era was different. Our coach goes, all right, guys,
and we got to look at him like if you
don't get the tells why this game is different, He goes,
all right, laval Uh see that guy over there, Yeah,
it's gonna between you and him for mister basketball. How
do we know who is the potential mister basketball? Six
foot six, six' seven jumping out of the, Gym Jason,
(10:46):
richardson who are going to have a really NICE nba?
Speaker 5 (10:49):
Career you, know going to when the next year so
win a national title In Michigan. State we don't even
know who he.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Is that's the ERA i was in with a guy
forty five to fifty miles up the.
Speaker 5 (11:01):
Road is this?
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Amazing we're going to be AN nba really good player
and we don't know who he is because we just
it just wasn't like that back. Then and they're, like,
yeah that guy's between you and.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
Him who was gonna? Win mister?
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Basketball we like who we're going to play the. Game
the man dropped about fifty sixty on our head. Back we're, like,
WHO i can still go for a, Layup, robzy this
is an easy little, Layup like give me a little
two points.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
Black off the.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Backboard all the way back to half, court the man
is catching tip. Dune i'm, like who is is it?
With that's the era on From we don't even know
who this dude. Is we would eventually play them in
the state. Championship but my point is to euro that's
how it just was a different. Era, now we kids
know In la know a kid In New york AND
i played him here AND i played them, there and
it's just a whole different.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
Environment, dude we didn't even know fifty miles up the.
ROAD i got one for. You even my, era, right
we're shitting.
Speaker 7 (11:51):
There were playing the other school From, Saganaw Saganaw high,
yep all, right around two thousand and, eight, again why
It's tom is oh? Here okay again this time is oh?
Here and they pointed a guy who at the time
is like six four or five a couple. MAYBE i
mean it looks, like really feels Like i'm the same
height as, him Right like we're like he's maybe an
(12:12):
inchest too tall to, me and he.
Speaker 5 (12:13):
Is a no, kidding two hundred and seventy five. Pounds
you tell, me that's.
Speaker 7 (12:17):
The Guy i've been reading about in the paper all this.
Time that's the guy average of thirty twenty and. Ten Draymond.
Green That's Draymond. Green and sure, Enough Draymond green ran
up and down the courts as slow as he wanted
to and did damage the entirety at the time he was,
there and then got The Michigan state lost the way
goes To Golden state and then go go show you
(12:39):
that was.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
RIGHT i was in flinting at that. Point but oh,
yeah when he played for the family like THE aau,
Program but.
Speaker 7 (12:47):
All of THAT i, saw, like to the point of
all of, THAT i think you have these guys like
to the point of just Use Draymond green for an,
example Because Draymond green was obviously a high recruit in
the state Of. MICHIGAN i don't know where he ranked,
nationally but If Tom izzo was talking to.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
You you're not a, bump all, right but coming from
a place Like.
Speaker 7 (13:04):
Shaganaw he's talked about it, before So i'm not telling
tales out of. School his parents like he wasn't able his.
Money they did not have the money for him to
go and play at a bunch of different places and
him to. Go, NOW i know for a fact he
played for The family program IN. Aau it was just
a very popular one in The detroit, area AND i
(13:25):
know he played with, Them but how many different teams
he was playing. On he couldn't afford to go to
all the, tournaments so somebody was having to bring him.
There and again he's talked about, this So i'm not
trying to tell tales out of school, here but he
talked about it when he talked about basketball is now
a rich man's game instead of a poor man's.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
Game draymond wasn't going to all those.
Speaker 7 (13:42):
Things and in high school he was not the player
he is, now but grew matured four years In Michigan
state think gets into the right situation in THE nba
and now is still PLAYING nba basketball at thirty six years. Old,
right like If draymond had let's say he had been
able to play seven DIFFERENT aau, teams maybe he never
(14:02):
even gets. There like to the, Point Kaylen lucas was
playing all over the, place got hurt in. College one
Of Draymond grease college teammates got hurt in college and
was never the.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Same, yeah and all that to, Say, man SOMETIMES i
do think they're playing too. Much they're specializing too. Early
and when you look at some of the GREATS i.
Mentioned Randy Moss due is mister, basketball mister Football West
virginia played outfield in baseball and ran. Track did you
HEAR i just, said and went on to be arguably
the second best receiver of all. Time so you don't
(14:32):
have to specialize at five years. Old these guys you
were allowed to play the things you're. Allowed you don't
have to be on a million travel teams to me
to still be. Good and not to mention that we
see so many players in THESE nba finals who weren't
the greatest or biggest.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
Recruits we've. Saw Derek, white we all know his.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
Story you just keep playing and your opportunity can come
even if you're not mister all world at. Twelve Kevin
durant now it looks like, eventually once it's officially signs
gonna be A Houston. Rocket great, signing terrible. Signing we'll
tell you it's The odd Couple martin For, Rob Kevin.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Forty, years Tyre rak has been helping customers find the
right tires for, how what and where they. Drive shit
fast and free backed by Free, road has a protection
with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation tire rack dot.
Com it is the way tire buyings should be in
about five six minutes or. So Antonio, DANIELS Nba Champion,
Series SEX Mnba, Radio New, Orleans, Pelicans Fox Sports, RADIO
(15:54):
Nba analyst, host gonna be joining us in a little,
bit looking forward to hearing WHAT ad has to, say
the finals that just, passed obviously a bunch of storylines
coming out of, that and then also what we're about
to get into real quick here with the.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
Potential once it's finalized trade With Kevin.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Durant one of these, DAYS i was gonna, say, real
we should have a, like you, know every neighborhood has
that guy who man if he only you know it
didn't make it to play.
Speaker 5 (16:21):
College but, like, yeah that's a whole segment right.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
There it was just like guys in your neighborhood who
man if they only because it's amazing to, me there's
some guys who obviously could have made it pro we
all know. Him you've got a couple of guys who blocked.
It man if he only was stay locked. In there
wasn't a. Knuckleheader didn't get caught up in that because
we were just talking about high school.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
BALL i got a handful of guys like. That what
were you about to?
Speaker 4 (16:40):
SAY i got more football players like that THAN i do,
basketball especially down there in The. South, Yeah Ryan parallels
was the best football Player i've ever seen in my. Life,
anyway exactly you never, heard but should actually say legend
by the end of, It but the thing about this
one thing that really bugs me to your point about
making this trade, official, right it may not, happen and
all that already went on my FANATICS gi tribe about
(17:02):
how this thing was all contrived and made for a.
Moment if you want to hear, that you can download
the podcast from.
Speaker 7 (17:07):
Today but the the thing that gets me about this
whole move, is AND i know we had to locked
On sun's, Guy Ben garcia on and he was very
looking at. It from The sun's direction of, Things Kevin,
durant you add him into a roster where you take
(17:30):
Out jalen into that that that was two seeds in
the westst last. Year Take Jalen green off of, There
Dylan brooks off of. There that's honestly Not Jalen, green
But Dylan brooks something they wanted to. Anyway, well that's
where they Drafted Reed. Shepherd they Have Cam whitmore back.
There they've like they honestly had a, few many too
many guys right, now the third overall pick didn't. Play
(17:51):
he didn't, play bounce up and down between there in
THE G. League and it's not because he couldn't. Play
there's no, room, Right so you take those guys out
of the equation and you add in the guy who was.
SECOND i believe in shooting percentage from the mid range this,
year shot some forty from three this, year and you
(18:12):
add him in that, spot AND i think that this
is going to, work especially BECAUSE i think when you
look At Kevin durant the way he has viewed, basketball
a lot of people say he's not a. Leader he
doesn't have this leadership. Mentality he's more so like viewed
basketball as a story and a picture of his. Life,
well this is the perfect like final. Chapter you go
(18:36):
from THE okc where you have the bump your, head
get to the, finals will be. Back you see how
hard it is to continue to get. Back you go
win some titles and you're the best player in those.
FINALS i don't care what anybody, Says, yea here best
player in those finals for those two, years even With
Lebron dames being inside in, them, right he was the
best player in. Though So i've been the best player
on the finals. Team i've won The FINALS. Mvp THEN
(18:59):
i went to go try to have my own team
In Brooklyn Snake, bit try it to do my own
thing In, Phoenix snake bit and then, terrible, RIGHT i
mean torn turn his ankle eight games.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
Into The phoenix thing that was messed.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Up.
Speaker 7 (19:10):
Covid if you saw that one, coming good on you
BECAUSE i don't think like AND i think in retrospect
we probably could all give To. Brooklyn that's a little
grace on either side of, it no matter where you,
are because there was a lot of stuff going.
Speaker 5 (19:20):
On it was that had a lot to not do with.
Basketball but you walk into.
Speaker 7 (19:24):
This Situation Kevin durant locked in with a culture already
established with Em, udoka and all he's got to do
is be just like spread the spread the floor and hit,
threes hit open jump. Shots he's not gonna have to
be a, leader and he. Doesn't to, me the most
important thing does not stunt the growth of The thompson.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
Kid it is set up.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
Perfectly we're all rarely in life is the expectation for
you to do exactly what you do, Right and that's
all he's. Asked he doesn't have to try to build it.
Up we don't need you to be out, here try
to be. Young we don't need you to run the.
Floor we don't need to do point. Guard we don't need.
Anything we have Have Emai, adoka who has set the
culture hard, Nosed we're gonna play. Tough we're gonna you're
gonna have to beat. Us we're gonna try to bully
(20:05):
you at. Times they got a bunch of. Defenders they
got a lot of athletic guys And easton we uh
AND i obviously you Got i'm And, thompson which just
looks like he.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Might be the most athletic gout in the.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
League you got his post player who just you can
go jump it down to when the jump shots aren't
going FROM Kd and it's Just taylor. Made and that's
WHY i have been screaming It martin for to drive
for a handful of. Weeks just, like, man it just
seems perfect to me because you got a veteran president proving,
guy and again he just gets to coming because that's
he's like that kid who just will you ever seen
that kid your neighbor who just kind of walks around any.
(20:36):
Man he plays with you, guys he hangs. Out but
he always seemed to be kind of a, kid you,
know goes by the beat of his own. Drum sure
he had his headphones on a little depending on your air,
walkman discman or whatever iPod dis.
Speaker 7 (20:48):
Depended, ON i have to say for this air and,
yeah their headphones out now probably.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Right and he just walks around and just kind of
every down and again he messed with. You wrap up,
everybody what's?
Speaker 5 (20:56):
Up? Man hang with? You but he kind of just
was in his own world and you were cool with.
Him THAT'S.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Kd he just likes to just kind of come, in
but there's always something a little. Off while he didn't
want to stay with you guys anymore with something, MAN
i ain't like the way you said that. Here, man
he was being rude or y'all was a little too aggressive.
Here and that's why he just floats from team to,
team even though he's so great and that to, me
he seems like this can be his is ang like
that what was that?
Speaker 5 (21:17):
Show Kung?
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Fu?
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Right you just got to go from city to. City you're,
good you beat up, people but then you just kind
of keep going on your. Mission That's Kevin. Durant so
he can be the Kung fu master there In houston
and hopefully get them a. Championship is you know what
they're banking on Since Houston rock is With Hakeem. Olajuwan
but to, me it's been a tailor made perfect. Fit
here's this. Piece come be all that you, are so
all we. Had we don't need anything. Else just come
BEAT kd mid range free, throws three, pointers get us
(21:41):

you send him some recommendations? Too go check out this
BY youo my rafters up. There just throw my name
at the. Door you'll get. In we Got Antonio daniels
eighty on the other side right, Now Steven, sager my,

Speaker 5 (22:25):
D what's, up, Bro?
Speaker 8 (22:27):
Calvin what's?
Speaker 6 (22:28):
Up?
Speaker 8 (22:28):
Brother what's Up? Martin how you guys doing?
Speaker 5 (22:30):
Good With?
Speaker 8 (22:30):
Gray? You i'm blessed, man truly.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
Blessed, well you know.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
What first, Off steve by the, Way Steve saeger was
just telling us a sixteen something million so everybody tuning
in to see a game seven h in THE Nba,
finals first we had since that twenty. Sixteen BUT i
just want to talk a couple of things from that.
ONE i want to start with Just Tyrese, haliburton the.
Injury we never want to see. It you AND i
had the conversation With rob last, week and you were
(22:55):
on my side of man going into game, six you gotta,
play you gotta go for.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
It he.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Does they play, well they, win big game for, them
least in game. Seven but this is just part of, sports,
Right this IS i Remember Isaiah thomas tearing his ankle
up And game six and eighty eight. Finals had he,
not maybe they win in beat The lakers in eighty.
Eight we already know what happened With Kevin love And
kyrie And Kevin durant in twenty was that twenty eighteen
nineteen twenty, Nineteen Kevin durant goes down to the. Worst
(23:21):
these things, happened but he played it right by playing
in game six in game, seven, Right.
Speaker 8 (23:27):
YEAH i mean the thing, is hindsight's always twenty. Twenty you,
know after the, fact everybody can, say, well you know
what he shouldn't have or whatever it may. Be AND
i think about it like. This you, know can you
think about what people would have said About Teres haliburton
had he chose not to sit out and chose not
to play in game six and.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
Seven, oh sure he's.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Weak kobe would have played man, up be, Tough, yes.
Speaker 8 (23:50):
Exactly so a lot of, times AND i think this
is a this is we talked about this on our.
Sins as some show today it's a problem with social. Media,
No i'm not the fans When i'm just saying in,
GENERAL i think a lot of times guys won't do
what's best for themselves because they're worried about what they're
going to hear about themselves that they do. Right so
(24:11):
to Rese, oliburton when he got injured in game, five
went To Rick carlisle and, said you know, what, listen
just go. OUT i trust these. Guys let's go ahead
and let been finish with these. GUYS i don't want
to risk my long term health and possibly rupturem my
achilles and missing all of next. Year, right even though
it may have been the right. Decision can you imagine
(24:32):
the narrative that would have surrounded Terrese.
Speaker 4 (24:33):
Aliburton can you Imagine carlisle to shut them?
Speaker 7 (24:37):
Down If carlisle would have to come out and SAY
i want to, Play haliver would have SAID i want to,
play and it would have to have been an.
Speaker 5 (24:42):
Organization that's the only way it.
Speaker 8 (24:44):
Plays but here's the thing that the players always have
the final. Say that's why it's called the player empowerment.
Movement it's not called the organizational empowerment, movement or the
coach empowerment, movement or the training staff empowerment. Movement it's
called the player empowerment movement because the, player especially the star,
player there's not a person in the organization that has
(25:06):
more power than a star. Player who's the most powerful
entity with The Golden State, warriors no question about. It
so he can Get steve kirkfhard if you want. To
he can Get Draymond green traded if you want, to
but you're telling me he doesn't have the final right
of refusal or whether or not he wants to play or.
Speaker 7 (25:25):
Not So, ANTONIO i got to ask, You, Antonio daniel's joining,
Us AND i know you just asked me a, question
BUT i Do we did have the game. Seven they've
played Three world quarters IN o, case he won the.
CHAMPIONSHIP i know that gets lost in the wash here
unfortunately for. Them but you said something in your answer
just now that that triggered me The Oregon you, said
(25:46):
just the player empowerment movement right? Now do you still
think that's true in terms of way THE cba and
all this is. Going WHERE i say that because you
look at The Oklahoma City, thunder you look at the
way they are being championed right. Now are should say
they are being celebrated right now because they lifted the.
Championship but it's the idea of they built this thing
(26:09):
up from the ground, up using their picks and a
little lottery luck with chet and DRAFTING j dub and
find you, know and i'd building this roster route and
in the same breadth as we talk about how good
this team is or how great this team, is depending
on how you look at. Them it's also this team
super set up for the future as. Well do you
are we moving into a different vision of things in
the times of player?
Speaker 8 (26:31):
Empowerment, no BECAUSE i mean the thing, is as long
as players are getting paid what they're getting, paid they
give Us alexander's about to be Super mets. Out you
know that's not going to. Change LIKE i get exactly
what you're, Saying. Martin you, know the thing that will
change is the structure of roster. Construction that's what it.
(26:54):
Changed if you remember last, year everybody tried to Be.
Boston everybody wanted to shoot. Three, okay with What boston,
did they got a fifty three's a, Game so that
seems to be the way to, success so everybody started doing.
THAT i can tell you WHAT i know now and
watching this year and watching the. Finals the king of
THE nba right, now the overall. King nothing matters more
(27:19):
in THE nba than. Versatility versatility is king and depth is.
Queen that's how it is. Now right you remember last,
year no one talked about that because they've been. Old
with freeze, analytics we get up more threes than their.
Twos right, Now versatility is king and depth is. Queen
that's how it looks because if you look at Why
(27:41):
Oklahoma city was successful all year, long the reason That
indiana was successful is because they came in. Ways they
came in the. Ways it wasn't about one or two.
PLAYERS i said before this year, STARTED i no longer
believe and we'll get behind teams that are skipping steps
with all dom s. Make Kevin durant is one of
(28:02):
my favorite players of all. Time BUT i dislike What houston.
Did what they.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
Did we were about to go there, Next so that
was gonna be the. Question just you, know, hey it's not.
Finalized what looks like this is going to be the.
CASE i Loved i've loved it for a couple of.
Weeks i've been saying. THIS i thought it was a perfect.
Fit you, say, no why is?
Speaker 8 (28:19):
That Because, okay let me ask you a. Question win
is the last championship team to go big game hunting
and for it to.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
Payoff i'm trying to actually THINK i was about to
say the twenty Twenty.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Lakers, davis, Right but.
Speaker 8 (28:37):
If you look at these champions they are winning because
they're going after guys that understand their. Roles the True,
holidays The Derek, wrights THE. Pj, tuckers The Alex, crusoe's
The Isaiah, hartenstein's these kind of. Guys BUT i don't
believe In skippy steps ADK.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
D MAYBE kd is Not Kevin durant of, all meaning
maybe he is just a cog in this, thing a.
PIECE i, mean this isn't eight years ago where you
had a different. Expectation if you're The, warriors this one a,
man just come, here some, miranges some, threes give us
twenty three a game and we're good to.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
Go Not Katie.
Speaker 8 (29:12):
Evold but the thing, is when you're talking about a
guy And Kevin durant over the last three years that
ever's twenty five points of a game on fifty forty
ninety from the. Field he has more respect And cashet
do anybody else on That houston russing. Team this is
the thing about. Stars they're, great but they have the
tendency because of their, resumes to disrupt chemistry because now
(29:37):
you have to build around, them you have to playcate to.
Them there's a reason it didn't work in. Seeding Devin
booker is, Amazing Kevin durant is. Amazing Radley bill is really.
Good why didn't it? Work why didn't that? Work but
because you need. Guys you need to bring in guys
that are willing to simply play a. Role AND i
(29:57):
hear what you're, Saying kelvin About Kevin. Durant maybe he's
not you, know THE Mvp Kevin durant that was In Oklahoma.
City but the dude is still better than anybody else
on That Houston rocket. Team and it brought him man
to play through him down the.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
Stretch, NO i, mean they absolutely, did especially when you
watch the way that that offense died in the postseason.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
Simpatico right here on that.
Speaker 7 (30:20):
One but you said something that triggered me, again talking,
about you, know the winning and skipping steps and so.
On no one is gonna fall or Say Oklahoma city
is skipping. Steps but one THING i also know is
true of winning is guys want to get. More not
NECESSARILY i want to say respect for, it but guys
want to get paid for. It and none of This
Oklahoma city team outside Of Shake, guilders has gotten paid.
(30:43):
Yet how do you think that that dynamic impacts this
team going? FORWARD i see a lot of people projecting
multiple championships are multiple years of success without the Little harry.
Notion if you're gonna have to pay all these, guys
AND i think that can cause issues in your.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
CHEMISTRY i, Agree.
Speaker 8 (31:02):
MARTIN i, agree because the thing, IS i don't know
with THE, cba which many people are calling The Dynasty,
killer how you can possibly keep this whole thing. TOGETHER
i don't know, how because you're gonna have to lose
somebody Because Isaiah hartenstein they just took care of. Him Alex,
crusoe they just took care of. Him, Right you're gonna
have to Pay Ted, Homewards you're gonna have to Pay Ja.
(31:24):
Dove so maybe it's somebody like Lou dort that has to.
Go and the thing, is those guys. Matter so it's
not as easy as, saying, ah, well you know what
you Got Casey, wallace or you Got Alex crusoe that
can replace. Him what May Oklahoma city so good is
their depth and the fact That Lou dort can come
out and you can go in With Alex. Caruso so
(31:46):
when you lose, one you're losing a. Lot maybe It's Aaron,
wiggins you, know maybe It's Isaiah joe because what teams
are going to try and Do they're going to try
and lure some of these guys away From Oklahoma city
that helped them win This world.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
Championship of, COURSE i think earlier point that's WHAT i
was saying.
Speaker 5 (32:05):
Too we've talked about.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
This you look at The, thunder you look at The,
pacers you look At, orlando you look at The. PISTONS
i think there's a bunch of teams that are just building.
Up young got a guy In kate K, CUNNINGHAM, sga
you name the, team and then now they're building where they.
Found everybody has a role and let's just see what
happens in the next two three. Years and not to,
mention we're gonna talk about later in the. Week The
east just opened up with a lot of these, injuries
(32:26):
so we'll talk about that another. DAY a D as, always,
Brother thank you so. Much appreciate you for.
Speaker 8 (32:31):
SURE i appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
Good even gentlemen listen to you every, day even When rob's.
Speaker 5 (34:09):
On appreciate, it even when is. CRAZY i.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Was.
Speaker 5 (34:14):
Wrong so SO i have a.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Theories everybody's all sports STATIONS i listened to every. Day
they were talking about these two small markets that aren't
going to draw any, viewerships but it's the most viewership in.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
What nine years something like. That, yeah since tweet nineteen six,
year twenty nineteen six.
Speaker 8 (34:30):
Years we'll go.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
Ahead so maybe sports, gambling all the apps that are out,
THERE i think that point be. DREW i, mean why
why would two small markets game that kind of market
share for no?
Speaker 4 (34:40):
Reason, WELL i just appreciate the, Call. Richard my initial
answer is gonna Be game. SEVEN i, MEAN i just
it's A game. Seven i'll finally tune. In i've been you,
KNOW i had seen it Haller. Burton you know he
obviously Played game six and you're just thinking what's gonna
happen with magical? Things so for, me game, seven and
because of the Last game Seven martin. Sixteen so it
(35:00):
wasn't like we had Three game, sevens because then we
could judge them up to Other game, sevens right most
watched game since twenty. Nineteen but had we had some
Other game, SEVENS i have a feeling this would have
been lower rated than the.
Speaker 7 (35:12):
OTHERS i agree That game seven is the reason why
we kind of got to this high point of, ratings
BUT i also think that And i'm not saying that
the caller and question is the reason why.
Speaker 5 (35:23):
THIS i think the conversation ABOUT nba ratings is one
that is done, very very.
Speaker 7 (35:29):
Disingenuously if you look back to when it started and
why it started and what people were talking, about it
is now morphed into, why like the small market, Conversation
shack said it best to me in today's day and,
AGE i do not believe in the idea that there
is a small MARKET nba. TEAM i think that idea,
died ironically enough With Oklahoma city when you Had Kevin,
(35:51):
Durant Russell, Westbrook James harden three MVPs on the same.
Speaker 5 (35:55):
Roster the social media is the new.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Market that's where the, JUICES i would, argue even before,
Them lebron And cleveland made them relevant for before he
even went To, miami just when he wasn't even winning
championship but winning fifty five sixty, games.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
And you tune it.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
IN i, mean you wouldn't want to See lebron go
up Against Derrick rose and The bulls and those, five
six or Seven pistons and eventually the Eight boston teams
and all of. That so to, Me lebron is face
of the league or at least young depending on when
you want to. Say it all started the face of
the league In. Cleveland to, me that was to, say, hey,
dude you got a massive the guy In. Cleveland everyone's tuning.
Speaker 7 (36:33):
In to, Me lebron was the litmus, test The canary
and the Coal, mine The Oklahoma city, thunder where the
this is, real like because they weren't boring like The
spurs were Of Tim duncans are and so. ON i
think that that has most to do with. Anything, also
the other thing reason, why it's the marketing of this. Stuff,
Man like WHEN i was a, kid AND i Know.
Speaker 5 (36:54):
I'll have to go back when my back in my,
day just go back and watch the.
Speaker 7 (36:59):
Shows it just the read there was a reason why
people were clamoring for nostalgia watching these finals is because
it was presented like a big.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
Deal if Then rob said, HERE i sat here and
Told rob That he's, like, no naybe the last time
you blah blah. BLAH i, said, dude the point is
to make this feel. SPECIAL i remember it being a big.
Deal was AN nba, final? Right you, can't, man where
are you watching? It y'all want to go, Out you
want to go to a sports, bar you want to
do everybody get to the.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
Crib let's it? Felt to be, honest this is what.
Speaker 7 (37:28):
Happened in my, estimation you HAD covid, happened so that
died right the idea of going out watching the game
with your, buddies because that was the thing one hundred
percent that used to. Happen then you had a guy Like.
Giannis they win but don't cut back and they have.
Injuries and Also janni's wasn't the guy best player not
taking the final shot?
Speaker 5 (37:46):
RIGHT a lot of time Those Chris.
Speaker 7 (37:47):
Middleton you Got jokic out, there who is not necessarily
as gregarious in the personalities spectrum of. Things they don't go.
Back steph got the one right along the, way But
that's the preason, why in my, opinion because we have
the same. Repeat that's WHAT i keep telling everybody wants.
PARODY i, said, no you. Don't you Want beast And
(38:07):
Jason Smith show With Mike harmon is coming up.
Speaker 5 (38:10):
NEXT i never miss your radio. SHOW i never hear,
it SO i never miss. It did you hear?
Speaker 2 (38:14):
That
