Rob and Kelvin tell us if the latest gambling scandal involving Cleveland Guardians pitcher Luiz Ortiz should be enough for the major sports leagues to ban prop betting altogether, set the scene from Clayton Kershaw's historic 3,000-career strikeouts night, and take a trip out to Shekel City for Rob’s nightly bets. Plus, FOX Sports Radio’s Countdown presented by BetMGM co-host Jared Smith swings by to discuss how artificial intelligence has helped curbed unsavory betting tendencies, why sports wagering has exploded in popularity, why legalized sports betting is actually safer than betting illegal or with a bookie, and much more!

Alex? Can we throw another log on the fire? I
know it's July, it's been nice and warm and here
it's been fine. But I will agree today it's a
little bit. I will agree that most of the times
you come in here and you're like, hold on, wait,
it's ninety six degrees outside, hold it here, and you
have on basically a bra. What is going on?

Speaker 4 (02:50):
No?

Speaker 6 (02:50):
Not a not a broad What you mean?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
You mean a bro. That's what we should call you
got on a bro? A bro? Yeah, I want to
see your son's out gun. I'm just jealous, that's all.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
I saw a picture of you with the buns out yesterday.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Is that your lady wasn't really good? Oh, now I'm
getting more confused. Rob said, I'd recognize those buns. I said, Alex,
a picture with a chick with her buns out because
the someone I figured alse she must be a listener. Yeah,
very nice. Did you check to make sure it wasn't

(03:23):
her cheeks out, Alex? Because Rob has a Rolex, I
mean a whole I mean, so folder full of our
ladies pictures.

Speaker 6 (03:30):
He does, actually, what are you?

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Ain't you in there too? Your lady in there? To
stop it?

Speaker 1 (03:36):
He says, it was just an accident. Okay, Kelvin, it
was an accident. Whatever, And I've deleted your wife. He's like, oh,
let me show you the invite to when they honored me. Wait,
and he had a swipe. I was like, my wife,
my wife's screen shot that I was looking at something
she had on? Yeah, I bet have you deleted it?

Speaker 2 (03:56):
As the question I've asked, it's deleted your wife, My yeah,
what's on the cloud? Okay?

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Or you know, like when you put them all up
into your role, like twenty of them prison know.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Those days.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Yeah, let's welcome in the odd couple crew because we

Speaker 1 (04:26):
The true engineer Martin Weiss is at the anchor desk
and we'll keep us updated throughout the program.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
And Saga.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Saga is our social media guru, and he's on top
of it.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yes, soccer, you've been doing great, man, he's doing. Get
me some hip hop questions. We got to talk about
some stuff. What are we talking about now? That was
because we had dinner in New Orleans. That's a great time.
I got a man. I really enjoyed you on. We
really did, except for the how to get some of
the price. Well, I just told somebody that story because
somebody's like, oh, go to this fancy restaurant, said, let
me tell you our fancy restaurants. We went to a

(05:01):
fancy and the brother said, may go on the other side.
The food's better over there. We thought our litt one
hundred and fifty. Was you put down the allotment and
then you work your way towards that. Now that was
a starting point.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
It was like they were basically saying, it's gonna be
three fifty yes each each, three fifty each.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
We said, we're working on a company. Uh, I haven't
done mine yet? What you still haven't done it? You're rich?
Are you cannot join that? Are you kidding me? I'm
joining that? You can't? You know? You know what my
expensions were done on the flight back home? Oh ya,
I saw you. Yes. I don't play around, no doubt
about it. Keep trying and they locked me out. I

(05:38):
gotta figure it out, all right, Let let's go here. Yeah,
some uh we talked about yesterday. Folks like to gamble. Yes,
And by folks, I don't just mean the average Joe. No,
I'm talking about the players as well, and different sports.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
So we got another thing, right, makele League Baseball. Lewis
Ortiz is a picture for the Cleveland Guardian.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Correct, and he's under investigation by Major League Baseball after
betting integrity firm they had flagged a pair of pitches. Now,
this is what makes this very very interesting, and it
goes back to a conversation that we had about Malige Beasy,
which I'm sure we'll get to here again. So essentially
they were alerted about a couple of days when he
was pitching, and this was back in June, and the

(06:23):
sportsbook operations I see three sixty they sent that alert
to the MLB. It was called a non disciplinary paid league,
which is he is on now. This alert because came
because of a couple of innings back of June fifteenth,
rob against the Mariners and June twenty seventh against the Cardinals.
Now on the bottom of the second inning against the Mariners,
top of the third. Essentially, he threw a first pitch

(06:44):
that day, Dean. It was a slider in Adene that
was well outside of the strike zone. It was too
wild and it had too much movement, and they were like, hm,
So that was the first one. They watched everything right,
I want I want you to know, like and then
it happened again and they said there was another time
as the first pitch it was early and it was
wild and it was it had too much action.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Well, that's because people can bet on the first pitch
of the game where it is to strike or a ball,
so they're feeling like he's really intentionally trying to miss
right the pitch. That's what they're alleging, which to me
is really hard to prove because.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
The ball go ahead.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Because this is where it gets interesting. But I just
think it's really that like that is too hard to prove.
It's the same thing when you're doing these prop bets
and you're talking about how many three pointers? Right, I'm
just saying, like, okay, today I'm averaging eleven, but tonight
I had eight. Maybe people were in my face, maybe

(07:43):
I didn't feel comfortable. Lad, I stepped up, like you
come up with everything to make this thing work.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Here's where I want to go.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
And I'm not even I'm not even like kidding myself
saying pro sports is going to back away from gambling
because oh my god, look at what's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
The money's there, the chest has been opened.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
They're not putting the toothpaste back in the too two Okay,
it ain't happening.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
It's out.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
They want all that money, bring it on, and if
they got to sacrifice players along the way, they'll just
do that. Your banned, your ban, But the money train
keeps rolling. We'll ban everybody if we have to, but
we're going to take the money from the gamblers and
the gambling houses. Here's my solution, and it's just a partial.

(08:33):
Stop the prop bets. Stop the bets where players can
really impact whether you win or lose on these things
and they can be conscious of it.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Take those away.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
If you just want to do the point spreads and
do the games, you know what I mean, where you
gotta do a lot more. But the idea, especially in basketball,
I'm gonna go there, and even the baseball you just
saw the first pitch a ball or strike is fifty
to fifty right, And then you're gonna come down on
the guy and say the picture was too outside or
too wild.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
You must be you know, got gambling. Did you bet
on it?

Speaker 3 (09:07):
You know?

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Like what are you asking?

Speaker 1 (09:11):
So I think if the sports and the Union should
come together and say we can't tempt it.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
They're tempting everybody. You can't have it all in the ballpark.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
When I go to National Park in DC, the betting
place is like attached, you know, like it's right there.
Literally I walk out of the I don't know if
it's BETMGM or what I can't remember, but you walk
out of it and you walk right into the stadium
like it's right next to it.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
So you can't invite everybody to be a part of this.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
It's all on the television, it's all on billboards and
all over the arena in the stadium. And then tell
a player not you, everybody else not you, and I
get it, you're playing. You shouldn't be betting on the sport.
We saw what happened to Pete Rose his career. But
I think the prop bets have to go. That's where
the league can actually do something to not put players

(10:07):
in harms.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Way I unfortunately, I have to agree the prop bets
is what makes this difficult. And I'm gonna elaborate on
a couple of reasons why. Number one, you just talked
about how tempting it is. It's pervasive, it's everywhere. And
if you are a younger person, I'm in a hybrid age. I'm,
you know, younger than you, but I'm older than the
Shades and Alex and the Martins, So I'm older than
I'm older than you. So I remember when it felt taboo, right,

(10:29):
it still felt weird, like ooh, the gambling don't talk
about it. It's like this hitting. We all know what's happening,
but it's happening over there, and we do do that.
But now it's everywhere and it looks fun and it
looks tempting. And they got all the young rappers and
all the Prize Pick commercials, and they got all the
rappers and influencers. I was listening to Joe Buden podcast
driving in and they have a whole segment where they
stopped the show to go It's top for Prize Pigs,

(10:50):
and they do a whole prize mix thing. And my
point is, it sounds fun, it sounds alluring, it's tempting.
It's easier than ever. I don't have to call us bookie,
I don't have to go to Atlantic City, your Vegas.
It's on your phone. It's easy. It's colorful, and it
looks like a game, looks like a video game. So
it's real. It's real easy. This is not sleazy going on.
That's what I know exactly. Whisper in the back, Hello,

(11:12):
sitting there heater with the family. When I used to
bet in the old days. Hello, Goldilocks, this is Papa Bear.
You know what I'm saying. Right, I want two cups
of porridge onto this. You're like, you know what I mean?
This isn't that dude, You're sitting at dinner looking your
wife for kids in the in the face like, yeah,
that's crazy. And you can put seven bucks here, twelve
bucks here, twenty bucks there. So that's why I think

(11:32):
there's some issues. Uh and and and then Rob, I
was looking at some of these numbers and Martin just
sent me.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
To thinking I was right, betam GM is at Now
that's what it is. I couldn't remember exactly, but I
know it was close.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
So look at look at listen to these numbers, Rob,
do you want to know how much sports betting around
the thirty three marketers that actually reported made just about
generating before we get thatched revenue just generated one hundred
and forty nine billion dollars, I believe. And you know
what's the other thing is, which is crazy is.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Sixty five percent of popularly and doesn't bet, I know,
which means you know what I mean, like that smaller
going on?

Speaker 2 (12:12):
You know that? Am I like that?

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Like you think everybody's betting now, there's plenty of people
who've never bet and won't bet.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
So of that one hundred and forty nine billion, they
brought in a fourteen billion in revenue. So that's what
they made. And this number represents the growth. Twenty twenty
five is on pace to shatter to twenty twenty four mark,
which was huge.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
What's crazy is I saw this too. New York has
surpassed Vegas.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Did you know that?

Speaker 1 (12:39):
You look at it as far as revenue of gambling,
New York is the king, and you know why not Vegas?

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Then you know why because we already know there's like
thirty million people in the metro area or whatever you go.
You just said, and if I just have to go
on my phone and go, yo, the Knicks are going
to I'll take that. I'll take this, and Jalen Brunst
is going to do that. That's why. And it's just
a sheer number game. So that's why I don't think
we both agree it's not going anywhere. And prop bets
is the only option because that's the one that's alluring,

(13:08):
that's the one, and that's the one that you can
control as a player and as a league or investigators.
I can't fully get you on because you do shoot
a lot of threes. You know you guys do that
was a wild pitch, and hey, wild pitches happen. Pat Hey, okay,
he threw twenty two attempts this quarterback. I mean they
were down, they needed to throw some attempts. It gets
too difficult. Only reason why I think this will become

(13:30):
more of a thing is if if you remember Malcolm
Gladwell's book The Tipping Point, If there's a tipping point
where too many nineteen to twenty five year olds are
ruining their lives and like going to jail and just
craziness having is a tipping point, then I think maybe
there's some legislation that government tries to pass or something,
and or if am I raise it to twenty one

(13:51):
or right, and I don't think it'll ever go away.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
We know that.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
But it's like alcohol. We said the exact same time.
It's like the prohibitionion all right, right, well, all right,
it ain't going to where here last point too, unless
it's a megastar you name it the tiger Woods of
of of an era. It's just it's because if it
he's being middling player, like guys you barely know John
Tay Porter, Michael Porter Jr.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
But there's a lot of stars that have have that
been involved in the past. I mean, we just talked
about one of the greatest baseball players ruined his whole
legacy in life over gambling.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
He couldn't stop caught him. But I think that's why
I played a role. It was so taboo because you
immediately thought him right. And the more they make it
cool and fun, he got Kevin Hart doing commercials.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
And but here's the other thing too. When we mentioned
this yesterday a little bit, and I do believe it.
If you're a player and you don't want to try
to giving your family money or whatever, you can't tell me, dude,
I'm only gonna shoot. I'm gonna be under. It's an
eight freet three point attempt.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
That's so easy to control. I'm not gonna that's easy.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
It's like, hey, load up, cause don't ask me for
no bread.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
But I'm telling you feeling good and you know, cold word,
I'm feeling I'm feeling good, and now I'm feeling shoulder
hurting a little exactly.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
I doubt I got the long ball tonight. You know
whatever it is at boom. I mean, that's that's so
hard to deteke It is all right, eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven, seven, nine nine six
sixty three sixty nine. How can sports leagues get ahead
of all these gambling scandals? Is it time to do

(15:31):
away with prop bets all together? That's what I'm proposing.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
You agree with, Yeah, I mean that's that's the only
any way you can do it. You can't do the
games or whatever, spread games all that. That's not fun anywhere.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
We'll continue that conversation next with you. It is The
Odd Couple, Rob Parker Calvin Washington on a TV theme

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Right here we go, u uh fucking Then on Pat,
take it up, Take it up one time town, up
and down the doll. Here we go, going up and down.
You'd be me and me were never meant to be
just me once in a while. Ah WUKRP and cenciny

(17:17):
And that's a theme song on a TV theme song Thursday.
Here on the oncome they have some real real bands
back then. Man, that was good, like really making tracks
of the radio all right, As he mentioned, of course
I couple on a TV theme song Thursday and coming up.
Jared Smith, co host of Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented
by Bett MGM. So I know he'll have a lot
to say about the conversation we're having. You can stream

(17:38):
the show and all our Fox Sports Radio shows live
twenty four to seven and the new one improved, the
Heart Radio app. That's right, Bill just searched Fox Sports
Radio on the app to stream was live. One of
the newest features in the app is that you can
select Fox Sports Radio as one of our presets, just
like the presets in the radio dow So be sure
to preset Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. So
it's gonna pop up right there on your screen. I've

(18:00):
been not talking about is there a way to fix
some of this gambling that is happening within these leagues?
Last few days we heard about Maligue Beasley. You know,
we had h and obviously now we have this happening
with the LUIS and MLB. So where are you? How
do we fix the prop betting, the any betting? We say,
get rid of prop betting. Rob propose that idea eight
seven seven ninety nine. On the five, I say, maybe

(18:22):
you yourself are big into it, and you say, hey, man,
leave me alone. I love it. Who we got Mark
in Sacramento, A man, you're in the odd couple.

Speaker 8 (18:30):
Fox Sports what's going on, mister Washington.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
Rob, how you guys doing today?

Speaker 2 (18:34):
We're good.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Mary.

Speaker 8 (18:36):
Listen right here, Rob. I have to say I agree
with you, but there's nothing we can do about it.
I agree with you. They should get rid of the
prop betting.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
It's too easy. It's going to cause a problem.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
It help.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
You can just see it coming.

Speaker 8 (18:47):
But with that being said, what did you say, one
hundred and sixty two billion dollars profit one.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Hundred and forty No, no, one hundred and forty nine billion,
eight and that they generate and for fourteen inion, yeah,
fourteen million.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
Let me tell you something. We know these owners and
one thing they worship is money.

Speaker 8 (19:05):
They never giving that money back. They would these players
go to jail before they get that money back.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Then I hear. My problem is this, dude, If you
think this is a problem with the players, and it is,
I don't care what they say.

Speaker 8 (19:20):
We've already had this happen. It's just a matter of
time before one of these, one of these officials, one
of these sports to get involved.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
No good point, No, no, no, I'm with you. Good point.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
They're around this and they know what's going on, and
they're like, man, I can make some money off of.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
This, and they're human.

Speaker 8 (19:34):
I don't care what they say and that much money
about how eadiot is to hit that button any time,
any place, it's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
That's a good point, I mean, And it's just you know,
there was a scandal in Detroit where the timekeeper, oh yeah,
was delaying when they started a clock. So all the
games that Vegas started to notice the Detroit games were
running longer, which would give people more time, you know
what I mean, So that the game over right because

(20:02):
there was more time. He just delayed the start of
the clock. You do that forty fifty times in a game.
You got an extra two minutes. There you go in time. Yep.
And that's what exactly happened. That's extra shots, it's extra three,
it's extra everything. Point all that, man, Mark, Thanks for
the call, Aaron in Wisconsin. You're in the odd couple

(20:23):
Fox Sports Radio. What's up Aeron?

Speaker 9 (20:25):
Hey, thanks a lot for taking my call. Yes, sir,
I just wanted to chime in about this. You know,
we can't hardly watch a sports event without seeing an
ads for vetting app. We can't tune into sports radio
without hearing bumps advertising sports apps. I mean, I try
to watch Brewer games. They were bought out by fan Duel,

(20:47):
so all the games are on the fan Duel networks.
FanDuel is a sponsor of a lot of these networks
and bet MGM and whatnot. So I guess my question
is is like it seems like these as these betting
apps kind of own the sports in a way, And
what y'all's responsibility might be as working for networks that

(21:11):
are have mean sponsors that are these betting apps.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
No, yeah, it's a dual led sword. There's no doubt
about it.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
They're advertisers, right, our businesses that we get advertising, and
we're not gonna if it's an ellege.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
It's legal, it's not illegal, it's legal.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
So I don't look at the media partners as much
as the leagues because that's where the players to me,
and they have enough power to.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Say no prop bets. They do.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
You can't tell me the NBA say we're gonna be partners,
but we can't have prop bets because this is an
issue for our players and it puts them in a
bad spot if we don't have prop bets. Were much better,
But I know that you know with all the money
that these uh people are given the leagues, they're gonna
want to push back to you know what I mean,
we're gonna do that, all right, Well give us back

(22:00):
thirty percent of the money we're giving you.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Oh hold on, and you're right, man. It's so hard
because thanks for the play, Thank you, Aaron. Players hear
it like you're shooting three and they here only need
one more. And now it's subconscious even if you're not
planning to shoot one more for that, it's just lebron
I need a rebound. And does it look obvious if
somebody screams at is that an investigation? Someone screams that

(22:24):
I shoot one more? Is that an investigation?

Speaker 4 (22:26):
You know?

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Or is that just a was a wide open three?
I took it? So yeah, it gets very very complicated. Uh,
we'll see how the league is handled the We're gonna
have a conversation more about this and some other stuff
that's happening in the gambling world with Jared Smith here
in just a moment right now, Martin White's gonna get
you set on what's trending? Mark, what's up?

Speaker 4 (22:44):
You know.

Speaker 10 (22:44):
The NCAA last year actually made a push to try
to ban prop betting, especially in the state of Illinois
for their college athletes. Yeah, kind of the same argument
that you guys are making right now. Jamie Prisker, I
think was really pushing that one. I don't want to
hear the end result.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
Probably go on to vote tomb But Dame, you know
they like we said that two pages out that too,
they're gonna be like, oh, we tried.

Speaker 10 (23:05):
And on the betting Integrity Firm flags two individual pitches
from Guardians starting pitcher Luis Ortiz.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
He's now placed on leave after.

Speaker 10 (23:15):
Reported MLB investigation into gambling.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
So hence the story of the day.

Speaker 10 (23:21):
National Stars James Would announced he'll be participating in the
home run Derby.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
He's got twenty two home runs on the year. Right now,
the Nationals leading the.

Speaker 10 (23:28):
Tigers six to three in the top of the third inning,
Blue Jays with they won nothing, lead over the Yankees
top of the second, and Brewers and Mets in a
rain delay, Angels leading the Braves, won nothing in the
bottom of the first inning, and Day Baseball Rockies beat
the Astros seven to six, Marlins over the Twins.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Four to one.

Speaker 10 (23:46):
Miami hot Right now, nine of their last ten have
been wins on Wimbledon the men's side. American ten seed
Ben Shelton's won the first two sets in his second
round match up five games to four.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
In the third set, play suspended due to darkness.

Speaker 10 (23:58):
Novak Djokovic has been answered to the third round for
a record nineteenth time. Dallas Maverick's assistant Jared Dudley finalizing
a deal to become the top assistant head coach for.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Denver Nuggets under David Adaman.

Speaker 10 (24:10):
The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that Omar Khan the GM
was signed to a three year contract extension that will
keep him with the team through at least twenty twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
Back to you guys, all right, Martin, appreciate it. The
odd couple Rod Parker Clvin Washington on a TV Themes
song Thursday, getting ready to get in with Jarres Smith
here in just a little bit.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
It'll be interesting to hear what he said, you know,
and I get you know, coming from Vegas and you know,
we bet MGM. I'm sure that they don't want to
hear about that. But something that's got to be done.
And I guess you could just keep banning everybody, is that,
you know what I mean if you Yeah, I'm just
because players.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Can't be involved in gambling. And we mentioned the umps
to and the reps. I mean, it just it keeps happening,
and it's happening. By the way, I thought. I thought
it was interesting they dropped the Terry Rozier investigation right
as of League B. He becomes a story there. Drop
that Terry Rose here so that it doesn't look like
you got two guys in the NBA having these issues.
All right, we join now. Jared Smith, co host Fox
Sports Radios Countdown presented by bet MGM, Saturdays, nine to

(25:12):
noon Eastern Time. Jared, what's up, man, what's happening? Oh man,
busy week?

Speaker 11 (25:17):
I guess a bad news. But also I do think
there are some silver linings with all these gambling scandals
that are happening.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
I just my first thought Kelvin and I were just
talking about, is you know the prop bets.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
I think, Jared, they're too easy and you can if you.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
Want to help out family and friends and tip people off,
you know, you could do it, you know, pretty easily. Now,
and this ortiz the picture, Yeah, I mean really, they're
looking at two first pitches in a game and saying
that you know.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
They were too wild or too much action, do you
know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (25:56):
And if I'm I don't want to give I'm a
basketball player. I don't want to give my family money.
And I say, hey, uh tonight, my I don't know
if I've got the long distance on the three attempts,
so I might not. I might be under tonight. I'm
just saying, probably won't get up eight three pointers tonight.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
That's pretty easy, don't you think it is?

Speaker 11 (26:17):
And I think with the baseball one first, so these
and they're called micro bets, right, like just insanely small
sample size bets one pitch the first pitch.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Which is crazy, don't you think it is? But but
here's the thing.

Speaker 11 (26:31):
So if this was like, if we didn't have and
this is the take that I've heard all week, oh well,
you know, legalized betting is the source of this. If
we didn't have the legalized markets, we wouldn't have the
integrity firms like IC three sixty, which is monitoring these markets.
And then all of a sudden, an insane because usually
nobody bets these markets, and then all of a sudden
they get twenty thousand, fifty thousand on this one small

(26:55):
micro bet, it kind of tips off, like so in essence,
it's like, you know what came first, chicken or the egg.
If we didn't have legalized gambling, you couldn't bet on
the prop bets. But if we didn't have these legalized markets,
they could be doing this in other ways under the table,
black market, offshore, and we would have no way to
catch the bad actors. So I'm kind of torn on
it because I do I agree with you, Rob, like

(27:16):
I think we're kind of off the deep end with
these prop bets, and especially for a starting pitcher, very
easy to manipulate. But then on the other end, if
we didn't have these markets, we wouldn't be able to
catch these criminals.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
So it's a really really slippery.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Well don't you think And let me just say this,
I understand that's how the player with the raptors got
caught right, exactly right, and he got caught because there
was an unusual anown of money bet on him for
a guy who's not a you know what I mean, Like.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Why is this so much money? Read it's an alarm exactly.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
And in my case here if obviously, if you go
run to the window with twenty thousand or whatever, and
people going to look at it and go, well, where
did this money come from? But if you spread it out,
you know, and other places, that's the big thing.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
You can make it that obvious because those watch the money.

Speaker 11 (28:04):
If he wouldn't have been as greedy. For example, if
forties does this for a grand in April, then a
grand in May, grand in June, he probably gets away
with it.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
But you know, rob people.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Are greedy, right well, I mean, and thereon lies the
issue people. This is the thing Jared too. People don't
like those oh a man's professor, Anthony. Even if you're
not making lebron or have a whole money what a
lot of these guys aren't making as much as you think.
And then it's spread around between agents and family and this,
and it ends up and you start getting in like
Malik Beasley and then the dentist thirty who this person

(28:37):
the barber of dentists, And you get stuck in a
hole trying to keep trying to get out of that hole.
But let's say all of a sudden I pulled you
up at one of those legislation on town hall meetings
or something, and I and I ask you sell me on.
Why give me another reason why this is this is fine?
And why having advertisements at every games, on all the
billboards and even some of the naming rights of buildings,

(28:59):
why it's so okay? Tell me why this should just
be fine?

Speaker 4 (29:02):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (29:02):
And what we've kind of changed to over the last
six or seven years versus what we were prior to that,
where it was a little bit more hush us and taboo.
That's fair.

Speaker 11 (29:08):
I think you're getting an audience that maybe for example,
the WNBA. Do you know how many people watch the
WNBA because they bet on the games. It's a lot
more than the people who are actually fans.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
I don't even doubt it.

Speaker 4 (29:22):
That's right.

Speaker 11 (29:22):
You're bringing in an audience, right. If we're trying to
attract and grow the game, it's hard to do that
because for the most part, we've already kind of tapped
into all of the markets and the sources of people
who are gonna watch. But now you're bringing in this
casual better who wants to make a few bucks on
the game, and it's a different audience that you're bringing in.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
Now.

Speaker 11 (29:42):
There's problems there too, because we have herasic Like you know,
gamblers are harassing players after, you know, losing prop bets.
I'm not in favor of that. I mean, there's bad
actors on both sides of it, but you're also bringing
in another audience that might watch the game and be like,
oh wow, I really like this and then become a fan.
So I think think again, anytime you have gambling, there's
always going to be people trying to take advantage of

(30:04):
the system. That's always going to happen. But I do
think the regulated markets are allowing us to weed out
some of these bad actors a little bit more than
we would if it was all offshore, all black market,
all under the table.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
Well, shoot, what are some of the is it all?
Kaitlin Clark like, what are the w n B A bets?
You often see a.

Speaker 11 (30:21):
Lot of prop bets, a lot of bets on on
the fever games and and prop bets.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
To your point, Couvin, like that's been the big one.
Shut Angel reached forty offensive rebounds. Well, I'm pretty sure,
I'll be honest. I gave Andrel a lot of credit.

Speaker 11 (30:35):
She leaned into that me bounce thing, and that's how
you attack those you know, the.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Count you shouldn't be able to get on rebounds right
now on nine misses. You know what I mean, You've
got nine rebounds on nine missus point blank.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Kind of crazy, uh, the Malik Beasley, It's just like.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
You said, it's one of those weeks where a lot
of these stories are happening. Do you expect I mean,
I'll talk about Pete Rose all the time because it
was very obvious back in those days. You know how
taboo gambling was, and he couldn't stop, He really couldn't stop.
Do you expect to see some big names get caught
up in this? You know, we got some not big names,

(31:16):
but could there be a chance.

Speaker 11 (31:19):
There's always a chance because you just don't know what
kind of financial situations these guys are in. But I
think the higher up the ladder you go, the harder
it is to get down big money on these bets, because,
as you see, Luis Ortiz tried and failed, right So,
I think because it's hard to get down significant money,
and to these players, significant money is fifty grand, hundred grand.

(31:42):
It is hard to get down that much money on
one particular bet, and you have to be incredibly calculated.
You have to know exactly where the loopholes are you
have to spread the money out.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
You can't be greedy. You can't. You know, you got
to go to tech players. You can't. It's really hard
to do.

Speaker 11 (31:59):
And I think also the big deterrent is there's so
much money in other areas, endorsements, things that you know,
players can take advantage of these days, you know, social
media type stuff to where they can get paid in
a legal way.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
I don't.

Speaker 11 (32:15):
I'm not gonna rule it out, because anything's possible, rob
but I think it's it's a slippery slope, and the
higher up the pay scale you go, the less incentive
there is because it's just really hard to get down
that much money.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
Yeah, we well on the other side of this, just
actually maybe what actually has happened right now one more
quick one with the NBA right now because we just
have of course, some the guys are getting signed. Who's
the team right now that's looking like a lot of
money's going on them? Is it the Rockets? Is it
the the Knicks? Maybe in the East? Is it the
Thunder Again?

Speaker 11 (32:45):
I've seen some money come in on the Hawks. I
really like what Atlanta did and I think obviously Kristaps
Porzingis doesn't necessarily move the needle, but you do have now,
especially considering that they've got a bright future, and maybe
this is more for next year if they get the
Pelicans pick and the Pelicans tank and they'll end up
getting that you know, lottery pick from New Orleans. But
I think the Eastern Conference right now, Calvin, because of

(33:06):
how wide open it is, is more of a breeding
ground for some of these bets. A lot of people
like the Magic, a lot of people like the Hawks.
I haven't seen much movement on the Knicks after they're
coaching higher. I'm sure you guys have debated that over
the last couple of days.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
Yeah, I love it. I don't think it really moved
the needle too much, thank you.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
I said they were going after Larry Brown and they
wind up with Charlie Brown.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
I'm just saying I might have preferred Dow Stalley. Frank,
I would have been funny.

Speaker 11 (33:30):
Oh yeah, I mean these make a splash, you got
if you're gonna fire Tom Tibodaux. Now, the one defense
I do have of Mike Brown, at least he's been
to the finals, whereas Tips hasn't quite been to that.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
You said he I'm sorry he couldn't hear you you
said he was coaching Lebron? Would you say he was?

Speaker 4 (33:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (33:45):
I could Ron.

Speaker 11 (33:47):
Do you think there's a chance Lebron goes to New
York now that Mike Brown's there?

Speaker 2 (33:50):
No, Yeah, I agree. I'd love to see.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
It, but I just don't think he's going anywhere because
no one's gonna pay The Lakers aren't gonna pay him
fifty three million dollars to bounce.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
Yeah, that's crazy.

Speaker 11 (34:00):
And also, if you're a team, why are you giving
up assets for a one year fifty third?

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Yeah, right, you have to be. The Hornets would do
it because at least we're relevant for one year.

Speaker 11 (34:08):
We got reletive up for the Hornets too. Honestly, they
build a nice little roster oute there in Charlo. That
could be a fun team.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
In the East. All right, Jerry, appreciate you man, Thank
you as always, brother anytime. Happy July fourth, guys, same you.

Speaker 4 (34:18):

the people what it is. So you know how he
makes his Shekel City predictions and even has the post
that comes with Usually it's him in a picture for
the picks. Someone has done a Golden Girls edition at
Wrigley field. Did you see it? You gotts see it?
And they have your picks up there and all the
ladies are there. That is nice. That is really cool.

(35:54):
Only you're just missing that's it. Yeah, I should have
been in there. Wait, hold on, is there an extra
golden girl?

Speaker 6 (35:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (35:59):
I don't know who that is. Who is that one
of their homegirls or something? I thought, Yeah, I see
Rose Blanche who was missing the mom.

Speaker 6 (36:11):
Who girls he met at the girls cruise?

Speaker 2 (36:14):
Is that the one you were hitting.

Speaker 6 (36:15):
On going through metapause or something?

Speaker 2 (36:17):

how getting pregnant?

Speaker 6 (36:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (36:20):
Is that her right there with the cubs had on?

Speaker 4 (36:22):
Right?

Speaker 6 (36:22):
Did you blough her pelvis?

Speaker 4 (36:23):
Oh?

Speaker 11 (36:23):
God?

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Okay, god what it sounded different when I used to
say it.

Speaker 6 (36:29):
It's just crazy.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
And my buddy his name is Andrew, go mad. Shout
out to Andrew. Yes, he's a great guy.

Speaker 4 (36:38):
Metamo.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
Well, let's get to thank you for betting again Shekel City.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
To Shekel City on the home base for Rob Parker's
daily Dicks against the Sprat.

Speaker 5 (36:54):
Alright, Blanches man, how'd you do again two and one
last night? And again eight and one seventy? Best bet
Cubs minus one and a half. Giants.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Mine is one and a half Royals minus one and
a half. Let's do that again, Royals minus one and
a half, Giants. Mine is one and a half Cubs
minus one and a half. The best bet. And remember
I'm not telling you who to bet on. I'm telling you.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Thank you for.

Speaker 6 (37:29):
Pretty good.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
Thank you for betting again like that, and then that's
right when they call you Rob losing my house listening
to you. Yes, my wife said I can't come home tonight.
All right, so she's not for you, We asked Andrew.
I think Andrew was like, yo, you they had the
set up for the A. I maybe have to have
another person find out who the other lady is. I

(37:51):
don't know who that texting DM and whatever. Find that out.
Now it's top of tigerret Tiger rect correct player of
the day.

Speaker 6 (37:57):
I think he misremembered one.

Speaker 12 (38:02):
He cut him with a sire strikeout number three thousand
for Clayton Kershaw history at Dodgers Stadium.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
There you have it, Dodgers Radio right there.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
He was a dramatic in Kershaw gets his three thousand strikeout.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
That was the last battery was going to face yep,
one hundredth pick. It was all perfect and.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Everybody there's family, friends, ex teammates.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
I mean it was a scene taking down tonight. And
what I heard is like it was a sellout. What
was Last Life? Oh yeah, I had a Jerry Harrison
Junior on the show earlier.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
That was a sellout Wednesday night. I mean the Dodgers
do well anyway, but I'm just saying it was in there.
People were in the building early because they didn't want
to miss this.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
Yeah, and our Timothy, our boy Timothy Parker was he
came through the show as well to talk about he
said all of him said it felt like October. That's
what everybody electricity in the air. I mean he is.
I why.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
Sam Blum, who covers for the Athletic Baseball he was
there and that's what he said, matter of fact inside
the Parker Drop today on wherever you get your podcast.
But he said that it felt like a playoff game,
like some sort of big moment, not just a regular
Wednesday night baseball game.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
I mean, this is first of all, listen, let me
make sure we just do this real quick. The tire rack,
of course, that was your tyre player today for forty years,
tire reck has been helping customers find the right tires
for how, what and where they drive. Shoit Fast and
free back by Free Road has their protection with convenient
insulation options like mobile tire installation, tirerack dot Com The
way tire box should be. Twenty people have done something

(39:35):
in baseball that's crazy. What's the three thousand hitters? Is
it thirty three? I believe because I heard them talking
about it. I think it's thirty three. Three thousand hitters,
only twenty pitchers with three thousand strikeouts, So I mean,
it's just you're talking about something in baseball has been
around like one hundred and fifty years. Whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
So that's from Milestone. It's unbelievable. And only four left
hander yep, think about that for Kirkshaw. You know, not
a lot of left handers anyway, but it's just all number.
And then Freddy Freeman has to relax.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
He's starting to become like Kevin Costner in every sports movie,
Like you know, haven't heard he having a magical moment,
like you know what I mean, just to walk off
ten cup, to feel the dreams. Nothing better than the
walk off in Game one of the World series right,
and he has a walk off, I mean, Freddy free
My goodness, this is the one time I dagnare almost
have to agree with you. What if they told me
I had one ad bad for it all? What I

(40:24):
want show? Heir Freddy. I think I might have to say.

Speaker 1 (40:26):
Say there you go you otherwise I'm always Wow.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
Well, he's still always hating on show Shay, ain't He
always said he gonna find a way Shaye looking at
you with his Dodger had on right now ready to
swing on you.

Speaker 6 (40:37):
Show hates the comfort animal. He's just stand up for
them to look good.

Speaker 2 (40:41):
If Shoe Haye didn't pitch, she'd only be the fiftieth
best player in MLB.

Speaker 6 (40:46):
I'm just saying he'll never be an mob bro.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
He wouldn't even be in the Hall of Fame if
he didn't pitch. Matter of fact, be the whole of shame. Wow.
