Coming up in about twenty seven minutes, John Morosi, MLB Network,
Fox Sports Radio, MLB Insider. We'll talk with him. So
that's coming up pretty soon, okay, dumb.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Yes, sir uh we got some NBA conversation. Yes, Bradley Bill, Yeah,
bring that. Yeah, Bradley Bill. We you and I talked
about him and the Phoenix Suns like last year, you know,
when I was on just starting with you, how just
throughout the year and how disappointing that team was and
I just never bought almost a year.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
When is this this is too much? Too much?
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Started like April, No, I mean September, September nineteenth, to
be exactly. That's what it is. Oh my god, time flying,
it is flying, that's crazy, that's what I'm trying to
tell you six years is going to fly by six years,
six hours, sixty minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I'm just saying it might be six Check your phone,
it might be six more minutes. Boss has hit us up.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
But I was never a fan of the three of them,
Bradley Bill, Kevin Durant in Devin book, It.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Just I like it.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
When it happened, everybody was so all, who's not gonna
like that team? You know, they were all ready to
put them in the finals. I was like, really, I
just didn't get it.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Yeah, well, Bradley Beal has now spoken, and it looks
like you got the team trying to find a way
to do a buy out with him and that would
allow him to then become a restricted free agent eventually.
To make it work, he would have to give back
like thirteen point eight million.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
In order to make that work.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
They're gonna stretch the money out that they owe him,
which is two years, one hundred about one hundred eleven,
I believe it is. They're gonna have to stretch that
over five years. That's part of how they're gonna be
able to do it. That keeps them below the luxury tax.
Them being the Sun so they're trying to do that
so they can get rid of him. You know, he's
got that trade clause, no trade clause, so only two
players in the league.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
How he has how Bradley talk about the incompetence of
the Washington front off.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Dude, Bradley's build naything anything?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Why reason are you kidding? Steph Curry and Lebron are
probably the only two that you'd say, all right, that
makes it. They've earned that. It makes absolutely.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Going on with the Dodgers, they got molly wopped over
the weekend. It's five nothing already in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Is this the first?
Speaker 4 (04:00):
It's a first Inny and there's Till Tool and Yoshi
Nobu is an All Star and not looking.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Like one All star, my butt not tonight.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Now back to Bradley Beal and the Dodgers are they
are having some issues right now.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
So my thing is this.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
So there'd also have been some reporting that there's a
few teams that he might be interested in joining, the Warriors,
kind of you're what you expect, the Warriors, the Lakers,
the Clippers, and my missing one more Robb Ge Warriors, Lakers, Clippers,
and I think that's it. Those are the teams that
he's interested in possibly joining, and to me, in the
(04:35):
Timberwolves and Bucks as well. To me, this absolutely sounds
like rob a Lakers situation. Now the Lakers can only
offer him a mid level exception, but to me, they're
finding a way. You find a way to rook it out.
Maybe he takes the last. They just find it a
way to make this work. And this to me sounds
like what the Lakers have done over the last six
(04:56):
seven years, where they just get a guy. They go
get a Waiters and like, ooh, this would be good.
They go get a guy, get Isaiah Thomas. Well maybe
he still has that magic like he had with the Celtics.
They go get a guy like Russell Westbrook and say ooh,
this can work. And it just doesn't work. And to me,
this is what it sounds like. Bradley Bill says at
this point in his career, all I want to do
(05:16):
is win. I'll just do whatever. I'll come off the bitch.
I don't want to I don't like it, but I'll
do whatever. First of all, already saying I don't like
it lets me know publicly. It's like, all right, I
know you don't like it. Internally, but you ain't got
to say it publicly. And it just sounds like what
the Lakers do to me, Rob this sounds like he
has three or fourteen, four or five teams he wants
to go to. I just feel like he's gonna land
on the Lakers, and the Lakers are gonna be able
to go. See, look, we got Bradley beal as opposed
(05:38):
to building a program, building a team, building a full
on roster with an identity and a purpose, and you
kind of know what they're about. And it seems like
the way they put a patch on a tire you
had tire issues instead of going to get a new
tire and get it and you're good to go and
you can run on the ground and you can you
know that tire can become a great for your car.
To me, this is just when we slap on a
(05:58):
patch and say, you got Bradley Bill. So we should
be good as opposed to really understanding what it's gonna
take to build something to me, and that's what teams
have been able to do. Thunder the Rockets. Uh you
look at obviously the Celtics had done that for years.
The Pacers the building slowly building things, even the caves.
Darry Garland isn't gonna work with Donovan Mitchell, Yes, it is,
(06:18):
just slowly keep going. Evan Mobile is gonna work. And
I feel like the Lakers are gonna patch this thing
on and it's just gonna be. I don't I don't
think it's gonna work because you're gonna rest and say,
look we got DeAndre and Bradley Beial and that was it,
and all of a sudden, the me you don't you
still don't have to say those two names. That is
not like Bradley Bill's now right now, I'm just seven
(06:39):
years ago, Brad right, I'm just saying you go the future.
Those are two guys nobody wants seriously, like like just
think about what you just the Lakers now pick up
people that nobody wants and they've been doing that. And
then my last point, I'll throw it over to you.
This is what happens when you have a Lebron because
he's so good that you feel like always just need
(06:59):
one more little thing, right, and watch this rob take
the Lakers away from it. Go back to Lebron with
the Calves, and what were the Calves trying to do?
Get Shack when he's one hundred and eighty five years
old and sixty pounds overweight. Gogle, Go get Ben Wallace
when he was past his prime. Go get Dereck Rose
pass his prime. Go get day d Wade. We can
(07:19):
make it the heatos to pass his prime. Boy, was
that bad exam?
Speaker 3 (07:23):
That was so bad?
Speaker 4 (07:24):
And I feel like teams do this with Lebron because
they feel like, ooh, he's just a thing away, as
opposed to saying, hey, it's gonna we have to have
a bunch of guys who are gonna play fast, who
are gonna be athletic, who are youthful, who have energy,
who can you know, come out night and n out
because Lebron ain't gonna play eighty two games, Luca might
only play, you know, seventy games. Who else is gonna
be there night and night out. And I think this
(07:46):
just smells of the Lakers to me. Bradley Bill's gonna
somehow fall the Lakers. They're gonna patch that tire up,
put the little patch over the hole and say see
we fixed it, and we're all gonna be like, oh yeah, okay,
and then the air is gonna come out that Tires said.
This is when I hear him say this. The team'ss.
The Warriors aren't gonna do it. The Clippers are straight.
They just got Josh Collins and they are gotten a
(08:06):
bunch of good pieces. Their guard heavy. Anyway, it's gonna
wind up being the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Because his name has come up with the Clippers.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Though it did, and I just think that you got
John Collins. I think they're happy they got rid of
Norman Powell. Who's who's better than Bill at this point
in their careers.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Yeah, I mean Norman Powell is really good.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
But you have to give to get like that, like people,
This is this is what people talk about all the time.
You have to give up something. People aren't gonna just
give you good players. Okay, well we want Norman bou right,
So that's what happens. But anyway, I would say, if
I'm Bradley Beal, though, no way am I taking a
buy out?
Speaker 3 (08:41):
You hear me?
Speaker 1 (08:42):
No way, no how, no, give me my loot. I
want every nickel you did this. You're the one who
traded for me. Why would I have a thirteen million
dollar haircut? Seriously, you figure it out, release me, spread
it out over nineteen years. I would say, Bobby, I
(09:03):
would say yes. If if i'm I would go like
we could work through this. I'll be Bobby Bania two
point zero. You want you, you know what, give me
my thirteen million in the course of over the next
twenty years. You know what I mean? At two million
dollars a year with interest or whatever. I'll take that.
(09:24):
But no, why am I giving up? This is the
deal you agreed when you traded for me, right when
you got me from Washington. I have a no trade.
If you don't want me, release me, cut me. Did
you see what happened to Damian Lillard?
Speaker 5 (09:40):
Right?
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Why am I taking some discounter or helping you out?
I wouldn't do it.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
You don't want the freedom, though, to be able to
go like you might look at you speaking to day.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
They don't want me, release me like they did Damian Lillard.
Give me my money, right, That's all I'm saying. I
want the Damian Lillard deal. I don't care what you
have on the books, what you've done. There's no The
Bucks did not want Damian little guess what they did.
Spread the money like mayonnaise over four or five years,
and they owed him one hundred and eleven, Rob G,
(10:12):
and the money about the same.
Speaker 6 (10:14):
Yeah. The only reason why the Phoenix Suns cannot do
that is because they've already waved and stretched two other
guys before. Well, that's your that's their problem.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
That's your problem, not mine. I'm not a front office person.
Y'all wanted me. I'm here, pay me.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
But I think if you and if you don't, either
that or I'm playing. I'm here to play. I'm gonna
get my paycheck. I'm here to play.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
They don't want that.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Okay, Now they got Jalen Green, who they feel much
better about it because just because he's younger and he
has you know, the ceiling is high.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Dude, they want Bradley.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
But the reason why I'm not saying rob you can
have your freedom because you can literally be Damian Lillard
in this case and go be him with the bucks
if that's how it works out, and and go be
free and play with Gianni's and.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Lopez is gone, but.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Not thirteen million dollars but not thirteen Yeah, that's great,
release me.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Do whatever you have to do, rob G. You can't.
That's what I have to do.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
I have to let you go spread it out over
five year kid, But you gotta take thirteen point eight
million back.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
No, I'm not taking it back. So you want to
be here and we all go, we go thirty and fiftys.
I'll stay here and you'll eventually have to eat the money.
That's it. They can do it. They can eat the money.
They can do it. They don't have to spread it out.
Eat the money. You are to count the money. Eat
the money.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
Man.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
At some point I want to go and go be in.
Maybe he's thirty years old. Now I'm not giving about
four or five more real you know, Rob, give real
years in this NBA. Who did I bring up.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
To you earlier? Dwight Howard.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Dwight Howard gave up twenty million dollars to get away
from Kobe when he went. You don't think he wants
that money back? Now, come on, man, are you crazy?
Everybody's like, oh, well, at that time, he's making money.
You think you're telling me Dwight Howard couldn't use that
twenty million?
Speaker 3 (11:57):
He playing? Where's he playing? Now?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
I don't know?
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Big three?
Speaker 1 (12:01):
He's in the Big three, Big three, and he's like
looking for any opportunity. If you had that twenty million.
You wouldn't have to play in the Big wants any.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Other situation, I tell you, I mean, if you wanted
to just for no, I'm just saying, but I will
say Dwight has been on a crusade ever since the
Laker has let him go. Like you know how some
people it is what it is. I moved all my life.
Dwight was begging for a while. It got a little weird.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Well because but he wanted money.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
I mean he was like Lake every I mean he
was every game some team, I'll rebounding them to buy
fifteen he it wouldn't happened to me. He still need
to me, Genie, Genie, I mean great, and my lion roped.
I'm in great shape.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
It was weird Dwight like, all right, what was weird
is that he gave up twenty million dollars. Well, Kobe
wash him, that was gonna work. No, but I'm not
you could do that, But I'm not giving up twenty
I'm not right. They were gonna fight every other week
and will I still get my twenty million dollar Patrick
every other week?
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Him and Kobe were going because Dwight was gonna be
doing whatever that but didn't we doing it. Whatever the
TikTok of twenty twelve, make a trade, get rid.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Of me, send me, but send me with my extra
twenty He took less money to go to Houston.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
It was a ridiculous Who was the agent? What guy
gives up twenty million dollars?
Speaker 6 (13:11):
That was funny about what you said, Rodneys, that Kevin
Durant demanded a trade out of Brooklyn before his extension
even kicked in. Dame Lillard got bought out before this
new extension is kicked in from Portland. So that was
what three years ago now, So the idea of give
me my money and feeding the rest out later has
really been perfected. So I'm surprised Badley.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Being would be willing to give up money, right, I'm
dead serious, Like, that's a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
I think he's crazy.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
But it's only the thirteen eight total, right, meaning it's
not correct. Yeah, so I think for him, he's saying
thirteen point eight over the totality of my contract. I'll
be all right, I'm still about to get a hundred
and ten one hundred eleven million dollars.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
I'm not giving that, and I'm getting ready to go
somewhere else.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Ball out might be able to get some playoff checks
if I go, you know, go to Milwaukee, get some
play off checks in Milwaukee, or go you know where,
if I go to the Lakers, like I think they
would make the playoffs. Lakers, but I just don't think
they would be as great as they think they are
if they would get badly Beal. And it just feels
like a lake very much a Laker move robery. You know,
that's your team, you know that's what happens.
Speaker 6 (14:13):
Yeah, and I'm actually all board with it. I would
love to rent to make it happen.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
And Bradley we need all the hell we can get.
That's how Yeah.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
I mean, Bradley Beal at twenty five million is a
great player. Bradley Bilot fifty million is a different conversation.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Well that's what he at, rob So.
Speaker 6 (14:29):
But if you're, if you're anyone else who gets them
get him from what five eight million dollars, that's a
steal at that.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Man, they're stealing people who don't get wanted so much.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
So I thought the Dodgers just got sold for ten
billion and they're using coupon to get players. The Lakers, Lakers, Lakers,
the Lakers, Like what the Niggers get sold for ten billion?
And then you look at the players, the players nobody wants.
Is that what your team is?
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Rob G?
Speaker 6 (14:51):
Yeah, but if you can get these guys for free, base.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Huch, there's a reason they're free, Like yeah, yeah, because
that bad situation.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
It's because it's not because they're in.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Just five centers on their team was but he was
with the team that went to the NBA Y and
then what happened, that's the part he went to Portland.
Portland's like, yeah, we wanch you just skipped the whole
part there, Rob G. If I mind you, I drafted you,
it only been like year two or three, you would
think we just went to the finals or it's own baby.
(15:26):
We you know we locked in. We got our guy
in the future. No, that just showed you something, ain't the.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Remember that they didn't want to sign him, They didn't
want to give him the deal.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
And then Indiana did. Then they matched it and they
traded him like six months.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Later they played gotcha?
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Eight seven Fox is a telephone number?
Speaker 3 (15:48):
All right?
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Should Bradley Beal even offer to take a buyout from
Phoenix and if he does, would it be a mistake
for the Lakers to pick him up. We'll continue that
commed station next with you. It is the Odd Couple
on a Magic City Monday. Rob Parker kelvin Washington, right
here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (16:09):

MLB Insider. We're talking some MLB with him in just
a little bit. Hey, keep knee stiff, back joints and
not cooperat and sound like myself and Rob, some days
your body is just like nope, and you know how
those days go right. Luckily, there's a leave with just
one pill. A leave provides up to twelve hours of
(17:43):
pain relief so you can keep on moving and keep
on doing what you're doing. So use as directed. All right,
we're talking about Bradley bial will take a few calls here.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
What do you just what do you make of Bradley Bill?
Speaker 4 (17:54):
I said that this sounds like a laker moving the
making how they just kind of try to patch the
tire up. You said, I ain't giving up the money
to thirteen point eight million in order for him to
go somewhere else if the buyout were to happen, that's
what they're looking at. They're having conversations about it eight
seven to seven ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Who We got Mark in Sacramento. You're on they couple
of Fox Sports Radio. What's up Mark?
Speaker 5 (18:15):
What's going on? Mister Washington?
Speaker 3 (18:17):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (18:17):
Rob?
Speaker 8 (18:17):
Yo?
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Yo? For you?
Speaker 5 (18:20):
Pretty good?
Speaker 8 (18:20):
First of all, Hell, no, I'm not giving up that money. No,
did you see what they did to him? They tried
to get him to to to force him to force
the trade early. They benched him, They tried to pay
the games with him, and he's got that no trade
cause everybody says that's the worst contract in the world. Nope,
that's the best contract for Blair. He he gets every penny.
(18:41):
Make them buy him out right, just.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Like they just did, like they did Damian Lillard a
little got all of his money. They didn't go to
him and ask him to take thirteen million less or whatever.
Speaker 8 (18:53):
No, they mismanaged that. They mismanaged their whole team, the
whole financial drownd.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
They mismanaged that, why don't you get the big three
to win right now? It didn't work.
Speaker 8 (19:03):
That's their problem, that's not his problem.
Speaker 5 (19:06):
And if they wanted to trade him, they trade him.
Speaker 8 (19:08):
Tomorrow with and give him a text message and not
kill him? What and I even call him So I'm
not into that. Get that money.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
One hundred percent. Mark, I'm with all right, Mark, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine On Fox Trey in Texas.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Tray?
Speaker 8 (19:27):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (19:28):
How y'all doing? You're doing good?
Speaker 8 (19:31):
Man?
Speaker 5 (19:31):
They need to take you need to keep that money.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Oh simple as that trade, as simple as that.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
You're not giving up any other day. Let me trying
to ask us for a taycare or something like the hell.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
No, I'm not mad.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
I listen, not a single soul in this building. Anybody
wants to give money back. The only thing I'm would
ask Trey and you robing anybody, is at what point
is money.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Worth your free No, I don't do what you want
to do. No, sometimes it's worth it. They can they
can still release them, Trey. You know that's my point
if you really don't want me around.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
But they can't.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
They can't shoot the cat came out and stretch it,
because they've already done that twice.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Not stretch it.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Pay him the money they want it on the books
or whatever, pay the apron or whatever you gotta pay
to go over rob g wouldn't right.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
It would be you can still do it, but it
would cost you. They ain't gonna do that because that
is pointless.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Or you could do what they did with Bobby but
Neia or something like that. There's a way. It ain't.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
I'm not giving up any money. You figure it out.
Because team figured it out. People were given the Bucks
a lot of credits.
Speaker 6 (20:33):
So what they could do if they if he insisted
on getting all his money and they still want to
get the cap relief that would come from waiting and stretching,
is they'd say, hey, get all your money, the full whatever,
one hundred and ten million. Then they'd have to trade
two guys basically like Royce O'Neill and Grayson Allen and
take really nothing back and say that's how we're gonna
save the money.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
And then beans have no depth and those are two
quality guys on their team. And now you're sitting here,
what was the point? Sometimes in life is a win
win call and.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Mobile Alabama, you're on the EYD couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
What's up call?
Speaker 9 (21:08):
Hey guys, thanks for taking my call. I'm going to
tell you two things he should not pass up that
money because I think for Bradley Beal, with all the
injuries he's had, there's a platter song called his Twilight Time.
Heavily shades of night are falling this twilight time. I
think Bradley, Bradley Beial's career is entering the twilight phase.
(21:28):
And he says, take the money, don't settle for you know,
don't don't eat it yourself. Let them pay. And then
the Lakers need to think about taking these aging injured
guys on and uh and and and and trying to
make something magic happen that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Well, you're saying they should do it. They should. You
shouldn't do that, you know what?
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Like Like the thing that kills me is they think
that you're the Lakers while nobody else wants the guys
or working out.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
But it's gonna work out for you. It's gonna work
out for us. Not only one guy, two guys go
work out for you. You said, Steve nash Back is how
messed up cool?
Speaker 4 (22:02):
We'll take We'll take them anyway exactly. Isaiah thomas Hip
is what we'll get to it. Yeah, oh yeah, but
he'll be all right for us deon waiters. It never
really works out anywhere, right, It's cool come be a laker.
So yeah, they have had some chances and moves with that,
and I just think they got to build a better.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Say, one man's chicken is another man's gumbo. That sounds good?
How about that?
Speaker 4 (22:23):
I do like that, Like, yeah, I'm getting und have
some gumbo in this week. No, I am a woman's making.
That sounded crazy. Woman's making for me?
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Your wife's making it?
Speaker 4 (22:32):
No, that sounded that did sound real crazy. I'll explain
that to this, you know. Let me go to iload
and then I'm just.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
I don't even know, like not only a couple of nannies,
does the cook live there too.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
I'm just saying, Rob, first of all, you make five
times money. I'll stop it, Okay.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
All I know is I'm just waiting for what the
Dodger's going on.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
Yeah, I've made It's been bad. No, I mean, I'm
gonna go home.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
I'm gonna put a little till in the oven, have
a little spine.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
You coming.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
I know talapia, Hey, it ain't know what talapia in
thirty two pounds night, thirty two pounds down I had
eighteen more to go, Alex eighteen more.
Speaker 2 (23:14):

It is the Okapa, Rob Parker and Kevin Washington on
a Magic City Monday Joy Now by John Morosi, MLB
Network and Fox Sports Radio MLB Insider John, what's up?
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Hopefully your weekend was good? What's up?
Speaker 5 (23:37):
John, Robin, Kevin? Thank you, my friends. I'm doing great.
That was here at the great State of Michigan too,
home to the best team in the American League. I
didn't think I'd be saying that when the season began,
But the Tigers are playing pretty good ball and I
just love this time of year. All Star Game coming
up a week from now. Can't wait.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Yes, I'll be in Atlanta. We'll see you down there
on the way.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
I don't know why you said you didn't think you'd
be sitting there looking at the best team.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
In al John. Did it they were bawling out last year? Yeah?
But that nobody thought they were going to do this,
did they?
Speaker 5 (24:08):
Job? You know, probably my mom, who's the most devoted
and optimistic Tiger's fan there's ever been in the world.
My mom probably called it, and I probably, like most
things in life, guys, I probably should have listened to her.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
She's been calling us since nineteen eighty four. Though, John
I'm just saying, you've.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Been saying every year, Johnny, it's the thar year, our
thar year. Maybe she's right, but I'll tell you what though.
It was interesting. Just on MLB Central this morning, my
colleague Mark Deurosa pointed out that yesterday a game the
Tigers had no business winning in Cleveland, They're able to
come back and win that game, and he said, that's
the kind of game you win when it's your year,
(24:49):
and they have that little sense about it. The whole
is greater than the sum of the parts, and Rob
you know that sixteen while you were covering them. I
think that this team has them similarities to that group,
because that team was a great team but didn't really
have a ton of superstars, somewhat similar to this one.
Of course, they've got a superstar on the mount and
Terrek Scooble, who's as good as that, and.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
That team had Miguel one superstar.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
Cabrera wasn't there yet. Cabrera didn't go up until eight.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
Yeah, yeah, yep, that was that.
Speaker 5 (25:24):
That was Pudge and Maglio and Carlos Gee, all those years.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Were melted together. I really thought, I was like, what
two guys six hours because that's when Burland and them
they beat the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Am I right? In the playoffs?
Speaker 5 (25:34):
That's right, exactly right. So they beat the Yankees and
beat the A's and they had the one layoff and
it never really got going against the Cardinals. But that's
that is to me where we get on on the
track so easily about about teams that feel inevitable. And
remember remember last year at the at the World Series
when everybody said, oh my gosh, this Dodgers Yankees World
Series was so inevitable. Well, guys, that was the first
(25:56):
time in forty plus years they played in the World Series,
first of all, and second of all, all those who said,
oh my gosh, it's going to be every year, now,
look at the Yankees. They at that time they had Soto, still,
they still had a healthy Garrett Cole. Oh my gosh,
every year the Yankees are going to be there. Now,
my goodness, there's all this negativity around the Yankees and
all these questions about what's going on with them, and
(26:18):
they don't seem so inevitable to win the American League anymore.
So this is to me, I realize it. It's maybe
this is a year where there's been so much conversation
about a seeming lack of parody and the super teams,
and is everything advantaging too much to the large market teams. Well,
you've got the Brewers making a surge now in the
(26:41):
National League Central, You've got the Tigers as the best
team in the American League. The Blue Jays, No, they're
not a small market team, but they're also not a
team that's been in the World Series very recently. So
there are teams that are coming out of the radar
screen in a way that I think is actually good
for the game. Where anyone that says, oh, it's all
about shoey Otani and the Dodgers and that's all that
(27:03):
we ever talked about, that's just not true. Cal Raley
right now is as promising of the power hit as
there is in the game. Then you've got the surprising
team leading divisions. So I'm actually quite optimistic about the
state of the game. Right now, and then the storyline
that we've got.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Well, let's talk about Juan so so, I mean Juan Soto,
because he did not get voted as a starter by fans,
and he did not make the All Star team. He
still could wind up being a replacement for somebody if
they can't make it or injured. But I'm you know, fans,
it's their game, the All Star Game, and they didn't
(27:39):
vote Wan Soto. And no matter how fantastic he is, John,
he came on late in June, right, had a great June,
but he.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Struggled the first two months. Isn't that fair?
Speaker 5 (27:50):
Well, he was, to your point, he was somewhat averaged
by his standards. But I would also look at this
and say this already, Rob, and again, the route to
get here is not necessarily pretty. But he's on pace
to have in ops above nine hundred. Right now is
ops is nine oh four, and he's already had twenty
(28:12):
one homers.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
But you gotta admit the start, I mean, just.
Speaker 5 (28:19):
So right, the start was poor. And it wasn't just
that it was poor, Rob. I would describe it as passive, passive.
It was too passive. He was still taking his walks
and so the on base was kind of propping up
his overall ops, but the impact was not there. The
impact has certainly gotten more impressive. I mean, at the
(28:42):
start of June, his batting average was two thirty three,
right and his OPS was seven ninety two. Right now
it's two sixty three and nine oh four. He's again,
Is he having his best year? No, but he's having
what I would describe as a fine year. This is
not some abject failure. And look at the season. By
(29:06):
the way, He's not the He's not the first guy
to sign a big time contract and scuff will. Believe me,
you look at William Domas in San Francisco, Guys that
have signed major deals that are struggling a heck of
a lot worse than Wan Soto is right now, and
and and getting a fraction of the negativity. Again, that's
part of playing in New York. We all get that.
(29:27):
But I think in general, what I'll say to you,
Robin Kevin, is this when you have when you have
caught this level of negativity this fast, and then what
I would say is admirably responded to it. By the
way he's played since the start of June. At that
point in time. Once you've been every you've been called
(29:48):
every every name in the book for the first two
months the season in New York, what's there left to
be afraid of?
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Guys?
Speaker 5 (29:53):
Really? I mean like, once you've come back from this
and people are saying, well, what a bust you are,
et cetera, et cetera, and then you you answer your
credits with the heck of a June, I'm actually feeling
pretty good about where won Soda is now.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
Yeah, you just wonder how much the money has to
like where the fans. He ain't living up to the money.
The money, the money, the money.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
Kevin, He's going to be hearing that the rest of
his career, no play, no player. I would say this
with the possible exception of Botani, because of because of
just his unique talent, because of what he means the
Dodgers commercially, and this absolutely wacky deferred payment situation. He
(30:34):
might be the only guy who signs a deal of
that magnitude where people where people actually say it was
they got their money's worth out of it by the end,
think about it, pooh hooles, by the end they said.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Oh yeah, for sure, Caprera.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
No, they're already saying it about Vladimir Guerrero Junior in Toronto.
We signed a deal like two months ago. I mean,
this is this is just pro sports, especially guys in
a sport without a faulty cap. When when by definition
Steve Cohen or Guggenheim in Los Angeles can completely rewrite
the book about what players are supposed to be paid,
(31:12):
and teams like the Pirates and the Marlins and even
other like even good teams like the Tigers and Brewers,
they can't do a darn thing about it.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
Yeah, well we'll see how it all pans out for me.
Josh Hamilton, John, thank you so much. Appreciate your time
as always.
Speaker 5 (31:27):
Really enjoyed the conversation. My friends, Thanks for everything, and
enjoy the All Star Game next week.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
No doubt, I felt like I was in high school again. Well,
my principal used to call me Kevin Kevin kevinon the principal. Yeah,
he for four years Kevin Kevin. And he never said
my name once, Rob, It was always twice, little little
black guy, Kevin Kevin. I told you rule one six nine.
(31:52):
You know in the bas Kevin Kevin. You can't have
a head on Kevin Kevin, no pages, no beefers, Kevin
Kevin for four years, so why do you just you
think mister young and he got twenty five hundred the
kids Kevin Kevin, y'all, I see the big al of
my name Kelvin.
Speaker 8 (32:13):
It.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Please play the Steven A. Smith so that he said
it right there we go, Thank you, Steven Nations. Play
a Rob Parker. All right, we got a great one
for you here, Rob g asking crazy questions that now
have all of us arguing, and that you're gonna want
to jump in on and argue with this.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
We'll do that. It is an early edition of shop
Talk apparently.

That's right, Express Pro of the Week. It gohoes too,
Byron Buston. He went two for five with the Homer
on Sunday Night against the Raisin. Today was named as
the fortieth or the fourth entry into the home run
Derby in his home state of Georgia. So again, congrats
to Byron Buckston for being our Express Pro Pro of
(33:33):
the week. All right, Rob g take it away with
this outrageousness that I think all of you are wrong.
Speaker 6 (33:37):
Yeah, this is a question that apparently has broken the
internet over the weekend. As you guys know, Joey Chestnut
came back and won the Nathan's Hot Dog Union contest
after a sabbatical last year where there was some controversy
he didn't participate. He came back with a vengeance one
again and it sparked an online controversy that is shaking
up the sports world as a whole. Somebody put out
(33:58):
a tweet saying if there was a contest where you
had to eat a hot dog and then run one
hundred meters, who would win Joey Chestnut or Usain Bolt.
Now The guy who put out the question also put
the caveat saying the answer is obvious. Apparently, based on
the comments and the quote tweets, the answer was far
from obvious because it was pretty split. So, guys, here's
(34:20):
the question before I give you what the The guy
who prode the question said.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
Who wins that race?
Speaker 6 (34:26):
Joey Chestnut or who's saining bolt.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
This is the first time I can say it's easy.
It's easy, It's easy, Joey Chestnut. No, he does not,
Are you kidding? Listen?
Speaker 4 (34:39):
First of all, pause this whole conversation because of where
it has to go. Okay, just pause in advance. But
you are underestimating all of you who think it would
be you saying how fast Joey Chestnut can swallow the
hot dog. That's why I told you just pause all
that in advance, because the dude doesn't. And you did
the maths, rob.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Gie, how fast like five and a half six seconds?
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Yeah, but it's still not that's not gonna give him
a big enough lead in order to beat you saying ball.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
I think you saying ball. It's gonna take him fifteen second,
which is sat. That's a long which is great, and
he might swallow it.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
He's not. He can't.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
Rob Nobody does that. It's not natural. And what it
would take the water, the water to bun.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
He don't want to water. You and I both said water, bun.
That's beyond.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
I can't watch up. What are you doing with watering
down the body? That's so gross? No condiments, no red onion.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Saw elements real quick in that I could eat a
hot dog. I've once had twelve hot dogs when I
was a kid.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
And it took you twenty five minutes, thirty minute, an hour,
two hours. That's my point. That's your twelve hot dogs?
Is Joey in a minute and a half? Literally, Rob
g he does nine hot dogs a minute, right bro.
Speaker 6 (35:47):
At his peak? Yes, he does nine hot dogs a minute.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
Okay, So okay, So joey'sest not for me. You guys
are that can you know? But here's the difference. It's
an eat dog a hot dog eating contest. So he
wouldn't have to couldn't hip it in water, he'd have
to just eat it. No, it's he's presenting it as
the normal Nathan.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
Yes, the same rules.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Yeah, I'm still taking you same bowl. I think that
he swallows the hot dog and then he beats him.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
No, he you are underestimating how long? And then you
gotta go, I like show that there's nothing in there,
Alex easy Hussein's swallowing that so fast.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Yes, once he just put it over the once he
knows that this is what I gotta do. He's not
gonna eat it regular and take a minute to eat
a hot dog.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
Same ball is going to be throwing up on the
floor because he's gonna try to do it and he's
not working.
Speaker 10 (36:38):
I love, so let's break this down. Because I at
first said, oh, it's got to be you saying both.
But then I realized how long would it take the
average untrained person like all of us to eat a
hot dog, even if we tried to eat it quickly?
I say, fifteen seconds minimum, probably as much as twenty seconds.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
Now, that's what I said. I said, and that's a
second head start. He's halfway down there, and I think
he wins by about two seconds due and I ain't
gonna use I ain't gonna catch him. He's gonna haalk
him down.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
You seen what's that guy that runs in the ballpark
and they give the fans the head.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Start The sausage.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
The dude racist yeah and uh yeah he half this
half to this.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Guy runs them down like only a couple of times
I've ever saw that guy lose.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
It's UNBELIEVADBROBGI.
Speaker 6 (37:26):
I feel like as much as you're saying that, we
are downplaying Joey Chetz's abillity to swallow pause.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
That's just the whole conversation everybody.
Speaker 6 (37:34):
As much as you're saying that, I think you're overestimating
his ability to cover one hundred meets. Yes, yeah, now
I'm not I'm not praying that he gets hurt he
putting down, but I'm willing to bet that if I
do a side bed Papa Achilles, Papa hamstring sprain, to
ankles sprain until one of those is happening before the
(37:55):
thirty yard mark.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Bagged on the dog. Have you seen Joey Chestnut?
Speaker 1 (38:01):
He ain't no what track star because if he eats
Alost conservatively, Joey.
Speaker 6 (38:06):
Chestnut covers one hundred meters in like sixteen seconds. Okay,
so he has to have a minimum of six second lead.
He's gonna have a ten second minimum minimum. He's gonna
have a ten second lead. Because you saying ball is
not eating that that fast.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
He's gonna eat it in fifteen to twenty seconds, and
Joey Chestnut's gonna win and do the thunderclap like in Jamaica.
