let's get into uh Rob g conversation that I think

I have a feeling because of where he is in
the NFL uh as far as and also the position
he plays. Caleb Williams right, there's gonna be a bunch
of conversations about him because he is the number one
pick from a year or two ago. He is the
Heisman Trophy winner, and he's got a new coach, new
shiny coach who is big time offensive minded in Ben Johnson.
I know because of course Detroit Lions former offensive coordinator

for some years there and did some amazing things and
really revived that town. When it comes to an identity, well,
I think Dan Campbell set the identity as far as tough, gritty,
hard nose. We're gonna run the football, but when we don't,
we're gonna have some cool, unique pass packages and have
you know, even have mess around. Have Jared Goff out
here running rounds like a receiver catching touchdown passes. So
that guy Ben Johnson now teamed up with someone that

they say is the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck.
As far as ability, yes, he can do it all.
He's strong, he can run, he's fast, he can throw. Obviously,
make all the throws to the tune of a heisman
in Caleb Williams. But one of the things that's been
coming out the last couple of days, Ben Johnson had
to say, hey, you Caleb and all you starters first team,
get out of here.

He had to kick him out of practice yesterday. That's
a big conversation because they weren't getting out of huddle
in time, and things weren't happening in seven on seven
and seven we didn't even get the playing on seven
on set and shorts and T shirts exactly what the
heck is going on there? And then you fast forward
today the reports are looks bad in the red zone,
a couple of interceptions and inside the twenty couldn't get
it done.

There you go, that's not gonna get it done at all.
So this is now back to back days of not
looking great. And you have some people who would jump
out and say hey, like a JJ Watt who would say, hey,
you can't take much out of training camps and practices.

That's what they are. That's where you make the mistakes,
that's where you feel.

And I do get that, but I will also say
rob Gi sometimes a concern can be a concern can
be concerned.

Doesn't mean that this person's gonna be terrible, doesn't mean
your team's gonna suck, but you can say, hey, that
is clearly something we got to tighten up, change up,
and fix. And I think there's something going on right
now between Kayleb Williams and Kayleb Williams not being what
we expected him to be coming out of college right, yes,
and what did we know. We knew there were some

things about him that were left undesirable for him coming
out of the draft as well. And my issue with
him right now is coming out there saying he wants
four thousand yards, which is terrible that that's going to
be a first time or time the benchmark, Yeah, for
an organization, and then seventy percent as well, but for
the first time in his career. I'm looking at it
(06:23):
as Cayleb Williams is dealing with adversity. And I don't
mean I don't want to talk about his twelve I
don't want to. I don't know that, but I mean
from probably primetime high school football, through college and now
on the pros, this is the first time where everything
that you've done isn't quite good enough right now. Where
the things that came easy for you, well they're not
really easy right now. And the things that you knew
you can go out there and do, maybe you even
(06:45):
are concerned about the confidence in doing those things. And
now you have a new offensive coordinator, you have a
new head coach, you will have a new system in
your second year where you're trying to learn and development.

We've even seen guys who were good their first year
take a step back that second year. When you talk
about CJ. Stroud, right when when you talk about Trevor Lawrence,
talk about mac Jones. We talk about mac Jones. We
thought mac Jones is gonna be something. And so you
already may have the sophomore slump. But now you're doing
with the new coach. Now you're doing with the new system.
And I think he's really struggling with man, I can't
(07:17):
be superman like I used to. I may have to
actually adjust to the league, to the system. I gotta
get the ball out backyard sandlot football isn't gonna work
like that. And I think for the first time he's
dealing with that type of adversity, and I think now
with the new system, it's gonna make it tougher. And
they got five six weeks to get it underway because
they're gonna tough division leasely looks like on paper, and
(07:38):
I'm not overly worried, but I have a big concern
right now saying, Yo, some of this stuff should will
be a little more remedia, a little easier, and it's
not looking that way.

No, it's really not. And even the most staunched Caleb
Williams defenders, and I wouldn't say I was that extreme,
but I was a big believer in they're coming out
of college. Anybody who who thought he was the best
prospects Andrew Luck, they all conceded two flaws, if you will,
about him coming out of thet a USC. Number one,
as you mentioned, all of his best players are backyard football.
(08:09):
It's not on time, it's not on target, it's not
in rhythm in the structure of the offense. That's not
what makes him special. Number two was to your point,
how does he deal with adversity, because we saw in
USC there's video of him going up into the stands
and crying to his mom because they lost a regular
(08:29):
season game and they were basically eliminated from the playoff chase.

Sometimes you need to hug rogie.

And I'm not saying that's a bad thing, like it's
you know, it is what it is. Everybody operates in
different ways. But those were two legitimate concerns that even
his biggest defenders had and we've seen that now. Both
of those things play out in a big way in
the NFL. We thought after the London game against Jacksonville
last season where he goes twenty three to twenty nine,

two twenty six, four touchdowns, like, oh, he's arrived, he's
figured it out, he's married the structure with the off structure,
and we're gonna get the full Kayleb Williams experience. The
next three games right out of that breakout performance, his
team goes zero to three. He competes fifty percent of
his passes one hundred and fifty six passing yards per game,
(09:16):
no touchdowns, no picks, takes eighteen sacks over the next
three games with the passer rating of sixty four. And
ever since that little dry spell, he might have had
a couple of games where he pops off, you know,
against the Vikings two touchdowns against the Lions three touchdowns,
But what you saw repeatedly was a lack of confidence
(09:40):
in pulling the trigger on passes that were there. He'd
want to hold on the ball a little bit too long,
a beat too long, take a sack, or he'd be
pressing on some of his throws where a guy's open
and he's throwing it a little bit too hard with
a little bit too much anticipation and he misses a
guy that's open. And now you're seeing now that he's
with a coach like Ben Johnson, who very similar to
(10:03):
a guy like Kyle Shanahan, like a Sean McVay. What
they need for them is not the highlight reel quarterback.
They don't need the guy with six' five laser rocket
arm that can make all the. Throws what they need
and What Ben johnson, wants and what thing these guys
have all shown is run my. System it, works trust
me one two, three hit, it play action one two,

three four five hit. It And Caleb, williams at least
through the first two days of, camp is not showing
that he's capable of doing that that it goes against
everything that he fundamentally believes about, himself and to be quite,
HONEST i can't really blame him because that's how he
had all of his. Success that's what made him the
number one prospect that we had. Seen so it's Just

i'm not confident right. Now and as if you're A bears,
Fan i'd love to hear you it's the. Different i'm
not confident that we're going to see the best version
Of Caleb williams in THE. Nfl Matt eberfluss was his,
coach though he's. Terrible SO i got all them out
a little. Bit robb g BECAUSE i got to see
him a couple. Times, obviously as A lions, fan you're, like,
ooh bad. Decisions we know that week after week not
going for you, here should have went for it, there

didn't call time, out miss the field. Goal all these
things were, happening AND i think that does play a
role in not seeing the best version Of Kayleb. Williams,
now while we're putting a lot of this on, him
some of this is gonna go to h To Ben, Johnson,
yeah can you coach something that's? Different can you coach
a guy that isn't directly the type of prototype for?

You right where can you coach a guy can you
say Early Lamar jackson days or, Everybody, OH i mean
he's not, this he's not. That but thankfully For lamar
he went to a system and a Team John harbaugh
and that crew where they're, like, no we're gonna add
that to. You and a lot of times in THE
nfl it has to be my way of the. Highways
sometimes great coaches is.

the first time in his career. I'm looking at it

as Cayleb Williams is dealing with adversity. And I don't
mean I don't want to talk about his twelve I
don't want to. I don't know that, but I mean
from probably primetime high school football, through college and now
on the pros, this is the first time where everything
that you've done isn't quite good enough right now. Where
the things that came easy for you, well they're not
really easy right now. And the things that you knew
you can go out there and do, maybe you even

are concerned about the confidence in doing those things. And
now you have a new offensive coordinator, you have a
new head coach, you will have a new system in
your second year where you're trying to learn and development.

We've even seen guys who were good their first year
take a step back that second year. When you talk
about CJ. Stroud, right when when you talk about Trevor Lawrence,

with the new coach. Now you're doing with the new system.
And I think he's really struggling with man, I can't

be superman like I used to. I may have to

like that. And I think for the first time he's
dealing with that type of adversity, and I think now
with the new system, it's gonna make it tougher. And

they're gonna tough division leasely looks like on paper, and

I'm not overly worried, but I have a big concern
right now saying, Yo, some of this stuff should will
be a little more remedia, a little easier, and it's
not looking that way.

No, it's really not. And even the most staunched Caleb
Williams defenders, and I wouldn't say I was that extreme,
but I was a big believer in they're coming out
of college. Anybody who who thought he was the best
prospects Andrew Luck, they all conceded two flaws, if you will,
about him coming out of thet a USC. Number one,
as you mentioned, all of his best players are backyard football.

It's not on time, it's not on target, it's not
in rhythm in the structure of the offense. That's not
what makes him special. Number two was to your point,
how does he deal with adversity, because we saw in
USC there's video of him going up into the stands
and crying to his mom because they lost a regular

season game and they were basically eliminated from the playoff chase.

And I'm not saying that's a bad thing, like it's
you know, it is what it is. Everybody operates in
different ways. But those were two legitimate concerns that even
his biggest defenders had and we've seen that now. Both
of those things play out in a big way in
the NFL. We thought after the London game against Jacksonville
last season where he goes twenty three to twenty nine,

two twenty six, four touchdowns, like, oh, he's arrived, he's
figured it out, he's married the structure with the off structure,
and we're gonna get the full Kayleb Williams experience. The
next three games right out of that breakout performance, his
team goes zero to three. He competes fifty percent of
his passes one hundred and fifty six passing yards per game,

no touchdowns, no picks, takes eighteen sacks over the next
three games with the passer rating of sixty four. And
ever since that little dry spell, he might have had
a couple of games where he pops off, you know,
against the Vikings two touchdowns against the Lions three touchdowns,
But what you saw repeatedly was a lack of confidence

in pulling the trigger on passes that were there. He'd
want to hold on the ball a little bit too long,
a beat too long, take a sack, or he'd be
pressing on some of his throws where a guy's open
and he's throwing it a little bit too hard with
a little bit too much anticipation and he misses a
guy that's open. And now you're seeing now that he's
with a coach like Ben Johnson, who very similar to

a guy like Kyle Shanahan, like a Sean McVay. What
they need for them is not the highlight reel quarterback.
They don't need the guy with six' five laser rocket
arm that can make all the. Throws what they need
and What Ben johnson, wants and what thing these guys

through the first two days of, camp is not showing
that he's capable of doing that that it goes against
