Calvin Watkins, who covers the Cowboys for the Dallas Morning News.
He's been covering football for a long time, and he'll
give us the skinny on what's going on there. So
we got a lot happening in our number two, Rob G,

(01:30):
let's bring you in to talk about. Over the weekend,
Luka Doncic signed the one hundred and sixty five million
dollar COT extension. Yeah, but you know what it wasn't
the three fifty that was he would have got, had
to stay with Dallas, And I know that Rob G
explained it to me the you know Homer Lakers fan.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Well, I'm just saying that, you know, him signing this
will allow him to sign maybe a four hundred and
seventy that's three years from now. Down the road, he
can sign more. But he was up for three fifties.
So you can't tell me he was up for three
fifty right night, right now, and he still could have
signed another contract, but he's up for three fifty anyway,
Rob G, Uh, Luca had stuff to say.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
He had a lot to say, you know, the big
as much as what I had. The big headline other
than the money coming into this weekend was Luca went
from looking like me to look like Kerry roadse He
just he just took us.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
He had money, he had the Olympic money. You think
do you think you think it is that?

Speaker 1 (02:29):
I mean it was, but they said on the air
like that, let's just say it. I'm saying allegedly, I
gotta recovered exactly what I'm saying allegedly there. But it
was fast. You see how quick that turnaround he had.
He had cuts, yeah, try, I saw triceps. But they
said that people down there in Dallas said that this

(02:49):
he's done this before, like he's in shape actually after
the season.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Yeah right, he played because you're a math math and
he plays his way into shape during the season. But
he's not afford that luxury anymore. I think he's been
called out on it now, so he has to be.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
I always said, he's a twenty five year old with
a thirty five year old body.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Thirty five, yeah, forty five, fifty okay, yeah, but go ahead.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Know what also says They say that he gets in
shape in Slovenia, then he comes back to Texas and
he gains it all back.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
That's probably the food. They're so bad down there, but
in any event, bad in a good way.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
The big story of course, coming in with hey man,
this guy's in shape. He looks ready to rock. He
was ready to roll Lakers dark horse championship contender. So
during his media availability over the weekend, he was asked
about his new look and what his expectations are for
himself and the team next season.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Nicholas looking good to see.

Speaker 5 (03:37):
Congratulations. You mentioned in kind of the post you put
out on social media championships being important to you. Here
you guys lost in the first round. You look like
a different person since then. What do you feel like
you're going to bring to that championship pursuit next year?
And how do you feel like the team is constructed
to try to achieve that goal.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah, honestly, I think we have a great team.

Speaker 6 (04:01):
We have what we need to compete for the championship.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
The only good thing is he's not like Lebron who's
making always make excuses and we don't have enough and
you know, like always putting out there so that when
things don't go well, he's able. I got something.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
I have a covered, you know what I mean, because
I already put out there that we need more.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
But I got to say this. What is he Slovenia?
Where's he from Slovenian?

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Yeah, so I don't know the translation of his name
and Luka Doncic or nad and Doncic or the breakdown,
but I think it also must in English stand for delusional,
because the idea with the idea that he thinks that
they're championship, like they got knocked out in the first
round last year, and I'm Lebron's older and I know

(04:48):
they picked up a couple of pieces, rob G, but
nobody earth shattering and not a smart right. And the
other thing is, look at what Denver did, Like Denver
really got better, obviously, ok C. Houston got better. Like
you start to look at some of the other teams,
younger better, right, Uh, they're better. And I still can't

(05:09):
see them as a top four team when I think
about the West, even with Luca, like people I remember
last year, Carrie, people were going crazy over oh Luca Lebron,
ain't nobody out West? Who are you afraid of? I
take those two over anybody?

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Rob G? People will say that.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Oh am, I right, I take I take those two
over the who out westcas you I ain't scared okay, see,
I ain't scared of this. I get they got knocked
out the first round, by Minnesota first round, and it was.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Not particularly close, thank you. It was not close. And
my point is.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Having Luca and trying to build from him five, where's
his other star?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (05:55):
And I know people are gonna say say that I
carry go ahead, all right, go ahead, God's say it.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Go ahead, finish it. I'm looking the way while you
do this.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Because Lebron while he puts up the numbers, rob G
has it.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
He's a Laker fan.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
The plus minus rob G like he's it's easy to
score in the NBA. He doesn't defend at all. And
that's the issue. Like people think that is what is
he rob G twenty five, five and seven or whatever
he put it in somewhere right somewhere, run there, Lebron's
number right somewhere around there.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Those aren't legit. Those aren't the same numbers he had.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Seven years ago when he was also playing on the
defensive end and he was doing something. It's easy to
score in this league. All the players say it. It
really because you can't really defend. But my only point
is they aren't the same numbers. And that's why you
can look at those two and people thought so many

(06:58):
NBA people picked them to go to the Western Conference Finals.
Wait this year, yeah, this past year pass?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Okay, you know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Once Luca got there and for them to get knocked
out in the first round easily by Minnesota. Like you
start looking at the top four or five teams out west.
We didn't even mention Minnesota. It's been to the Western
Conference Finals twice. We didn't mention the Clippers, Dallas either
or Dallas. There's like six teams. I know, Rob g
don't get mad. There's at least five or six teams

(07:27):
I would put ahead of the Lakers, even with Lebron
at age forty one and Luca.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
I think it's fair to say I put three teams
ahead of the Lakers right now, right just off of
what I think. Houston, ok See and Minnesota just went there, right, So,
I mean I would say them right now.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
You know, like Denver that no, I said those three,
I'm up to Denver.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
So then it's Denver, Denver, Dallas and that next tier
with the Lakers, I think. But you're talking about Luka Doncic.
I'm a fan. I've seen him play in Dallas, even
when he was not in shape, right, he took a
team full of guys that nobody would know to the
Western Conference finals. Now he has Lebron, he has Marcus,
smart guys who have finals you know finals.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Uh, they've been there before, Moxie, they've been there. They've
been there.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Right, So he has a team and with an inspired Luca,
a dedicated Luca, they definitely have a.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Shot a dedicated Are you sure he's dedicated or was
dedicated and got in shape to get his contract.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Like like that. No, I think he's dedicatday for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
That's what when somebody so scares me because he was
so you don't get rid of.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
A talent like that. It wasn't a basketball trade.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Yes, okay, anybody watching I've been covering the league since
nineteen eighty seven, anybody just watching basketball.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
That's not a basketball trade.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Luka, Doncic is a tremendous five team first All NBA
in the first six years in the league.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
That that's unheard of. People don't do that. We know
we can play.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
But when they when they get rid of a twenty
five year old international star, there's other stuff there. And
when they don't know, they won't he won't listen to
the training staff. They don't know what he's doing. When
they took that beer away from him, that was a red.
You just won the Western Conference, Foules, You're going to

(09:20):
the finals, and I can't have a beer. I'm of age.
He wasn't like it wasn't going crazy or right. You
saw the one like he was touching females or throwing
beer around a peer.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
He was having a beer. He's having a beer and
they took the beer like oh no, oh, And it
was another player. It was Michael Finley who took the beer. Right,
So you know, like there's something under the surface, right,
But again, you're one of the best players in the world.
You've been one of the best players in the world
since you got there, and then you had somebody tell
you I don't want you.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Of course, he's motivated, and that's what they told him.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
They we don't want They dumped Luca, no other way around,
we don't want you. So of course, yes, these first
two years now not not not getting trade mid season
and trying to win. He wasn't gonna win these two years,
but a lot of people did buy into it.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
They were doing But these two years, I promise you're
going to see the best version of Luca and if
you got the best version of Luca, your team has
a chance. So I'm gonna say they have a puncher's chance.
I say they're delusional, I really do.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
I west because there's so many younger and they'se young,
but you get me. Younger teams I just can't get
over like where they are. And even the old head
team like the Clippers, like you can look at that roster, right, yeah,
I mean that's that's what it is, right, they're the
golden guys. I get all that, But you know what,

(10:47):
that was a hit show. Well it was a hit
show one year, right, that's all you're trying for.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
You be renewed.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
They might not be renewed by NBC, but that's okay.
You just want one year out of it.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
I just Lebron at his age, and I'm just being real,
Like even Lebron, who you know, signed to comeback with
the you know, couldn't go anywhere because people are like,
we can't give up any ad.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Forty one yes, Like like oh look at his number.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
No, no, no, he's forty one yes, And he plays
sometimes like he's forty one.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
And as he should. But again, this is why you
bring a Luca Danter's in right, and this is why
you bring DeAndre Ayden. Hope hopefully he's inspired.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
He's another one. I mean, like I get it, fans.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
You figure like somebody was somewhere else there were garbage
and then once you get him, it's going to change.
I just I'm just I'm just like when you've been
on when you've been on eight teams and they just
and nobody wants you, like at some point, I'm just
keeping it real.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
You're really you're being really.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Real, like like because everybody That's what all fan bases do. Yeah,
I know he was bad for the last two or
three teams. He was where but I'm telling you, like,
now he's gonna be a Laker. He puts that uniform on,
Rob g He's gonna have his inner Kobe Noss.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
You know he's gonna be like, yeah, I'm gonna I'm
gonna I'm gonna all of.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
A sudden be like I'm inspired because Kobe Warter's uniform.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Rob you know that Rob today because he's anything but consistent,
right Like, uh, you know when the Lakers had the
lebron A d Russ Carmelo thing, the Golden Guys was
a bad thing.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
But now that it's the Clippers.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
Well that was his show, you know what I mean,
they might have something this season.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
No I and then and then DeAndre Aym you know
he sucks.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
But you know, Bruce Brown was the big answer for
Toronto and that was gonna do great with Denver. No, okay,
everybody Lakers except Lebron is the only only everyone else
in their twenties.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Yeah, I just but I don't like where Lebron is
and his numbers. And my my issue is, you gotta
admit it, there were people the same. It's not the
same numbers and people. That's why people were fooled last year.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
That's why. That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Ain't no, ain't nobody had them getting knocked out in
the first round out of Timberwolves.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
They didn't. No, no, no, no. I thought Minnesota will win,
but nobody thought that they were going to lose to that.
And that's what I'm saying. That's because of Lebron and Luca.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
You have two star players, you think, okay, and then
all I just need is a couple of role players.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
I got my two stars. This is you don't need three.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
You just know Luca ate two bad Glizzies before and
then it ruined everything.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
He listen enough with the Glizzies.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Man, New York has the best.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
You know, Man, I own the hot dog shop in
Detroit called All Star DoLS.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Did not anymore. I used to d A W G s.
That's how much that I.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
That's so much you love Glizzy Just saying it's still
hesitating because I was like, I didn't want to make
a pause.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Omen I just was I was ready, you were ready
to go.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
I'm just saying, but when you grew up in New York,
the dirty water hot dogs that we ate on the
street of New York, it's so good, so good.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Just saying you lived in New York.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
No Glizzes, the so brent hot dogs with the red
onion sauce, spicy brown mustard.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
I'm I'm gonna order some hot dog. No, you're not.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
I want you to try one, try one on camera?
Care you want to try on camera? Yes, I'm gonna
put it up on YouTube. And you just put before
I eat it, put censor.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
All right.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
sixty three sixty nine on the Lakers legitimate, a legitimate
title contender next season.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
It's simple? Or is Luca uh just delusion? I get it?
Do you you the uh?

Speaker 1 (14:42):
You're euphoric over signing a one hundred and sixty five
million dollar deal you want to give fans and people
hope in the organization. Of course you're gonna say that.
Which one is he legit on this or delusional? We'll
continue that conversation next with you. It is the odd
couple Rob Parker Carry Roads in Kelvin, Washington, right here
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
And you know what you need to do, stick and
stay unless you're delusional about dirty water hot dogs in
the US so good.

Speaker 7 (15:10):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to

Speaker 1 (15:23):
This sounds like a hot ninety seven in New York
or something. All right, Kerry, we'll lave.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
You see it.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Yes, hey, went back to my went back to my
plan days for a minute there.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
But you know what it is on carry I know
that one.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
I know that one is that that's uh is that
is that tigh dollar save I knew it's one of them.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
Okay, uh, it is the couple on a Magic City Monday,
Rob Parker carry Rhoads in for Kelvin Washington and Achy
knee stiff back joints not cooperating. That sounds like you
don't do that to me, all right. I'm just saying
some days your body's just like nope. And on those days,

(16:06):
luckily there's a leave with just one pill. A leave
provides up to twelve hours of pain relief so that
you can keep moving.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
That's why I use as directed. Don't forget.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
Coming up in about five minutes, Calvin Watkins, who covers
the Cowboys for the Dallas Morning News. We'll get some
insight on what's going on in Big d But first
your phone calls eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. Carr,
we got some people. Yeah, we got Dion from Texas.
You're on with the ACOP. How you doing, Man?

Speaker 8 (16:39):
Hey doing well? Are you doing? Kerry?

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Are you doing? Roll?

Speaker 8 (16:41):
I had a good weekend, great topic. Look, man, this
is all about Luca Man when they acquire him with
the Lakers. I was kind of excited to see these
guys play together. But may I remember why I don't
like Luca. Luca cries a lot, he complains.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
A lot, He's a hard watch He's a hard.

Speaker 8 (16:57):
Watch man he is. And I'm I really do like him,
and I know he got the five All nbas.

Speaker 6 (17:03):
But man, one thing that I don't.

Speaker 8 (17:05):
Like about anybody. We never questioned Lebron at that age
whether he could play defense or whether he was in shape.
And that's what I don't like about Luca. So it's
all about him. The Lakers had one of the highest
defensive ratings before they acquired him. Remember Ad was out,
he was at home. The Lakers won a big road
game against the Knicks on national TV, and they had
one of the best defensive ratings in the NBA before

(17:26):
they acquired Luca. And then when he came, the defense
kind of stopped and he started throwing off all these
bad shots. He slowed the team down. He just did
not play well to the level where I expect him
to play. So it's all about Luca. Man. Lebron's earned
his strikes. Hey he's forty one. If he looked forty
one at times, hey, it is what it did. But hey, Luca,
he got to carry this team. He gotta take this

(17:48):
collection of talent and do something with it.

Speaker 6 (17:50):
Thanks for taking the.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Call, guys, No doubt. Nine on Fox is the number.
We got another one. We got Kevin from Culver City.
You own with the Laker home.

Speaker 6 (18:01):
God, God is good, God is good?

Speaker 2 (18:03):
An what's going on?

Speaker 8 (18:06):
Look? Look, Rob, you've been covering the league in nineteen
eighty seven, and I know you're gonna sound with a
Laker homer. But the difference is Luca is in shape.
He's gonna have an MVP type season. And we've seen
what happen when players like this, who's had those off
seasons like Michael Jordan in nineteen eighty nine, Kobe Bryant
in two thousand and eight, Lebron in two thousand and nine,

(18:28):
where it's just if they're going on a reckoning in
the next season. And I'm telling you the difference is
when Luca came here with Lebron, they came in, they
turned into a perimer team because Jackson Hazes they had
nobody who would respect the low post presidence. So it
was like Lebron Luca take a turn. Now eighton's there.
You have a legit low post president presence where you
can run the pick and roll.

Speaker 6 (18:49):
The offense is going to be completely different.

Speaker 8 (18:51):
They have a supporting cast, and Luca could say this
to Fini, he's beaten. Devin Booker. Shigulous you on the.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Subway stopping Kevin. Kevin, Kevin, can you can you tell
Kerry Rhodes just be honest. I just want you, Kevin,
to be honest. Last year you had the audacity to
call up this radio show and you told me that
they were going to the Western Conference Final?

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Am I right?

Speaker 1 (19:17):
They're going to the Western Conference Final? The Lakers and
you bet chicken Wings. And it's been how many months?
I'm still waiting, Kevin?

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Is that true or not? Kevin?

Speaker 8 (19:27):
You can get you can get those wings conversation right now.
You got carry Rose on the line right now, one
of the best singers. See it again, Ken, And that's
so anthem at the NBA Finals in crypto.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
You won't even admit it, man, Kevin, I thought you
were a man of the cloth. Okay, all right?

Speaker 6 (19:51):
The Lakers play, all right, yeah, okay.

Speaker 8 (19:54):
Against the Luca will Luca will win because like you said,
all the is a committee, it's a team ef They
were all their first contract signing and you got Lebron
and the supporting roles.

Speaker 6 (20:06):
He was all good love.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
Yeah, okay, okay, appreciate the call, my man. Let's get
you caught up. Steve, the Sega has that, oh man.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
It is the couple Rob Parker Kerry Rhodes in for
kelvin Washington and uh before we get to our guests
real quickly.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
Yeah, Cleveland signed their their nineteenth quarterback, Tyler Snoop Countley,
to camp, So I mean, I guess they had a
few injuries at the quarterback position, so they're probably addressing
some camp throwing issues. So they want to camp arm
as that camp arm is what they call it. Yeah,
but I mean Tyler Snoop can play, so I mean
he goes there and play as well.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
That's another story. Yeah, all right.

What's up, Calvin, how are you?

Speaker 6 (21:27):
What's going on? What's going on?

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Say hi to carry roads.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
I just talk to Calvin. I don't want don't say hi, Calvin.
I talked to you yesterday. I don't want to hear you.

Speaker 9 (21:34):
I just.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
What on your show? I was just wondering, all right,
we can double dip in here. That's all good. I
saw Jerry Jones. I know this is his m O.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
When is Jerry gonna like ship one of these guys out?
I mean, he's gonna sign Michael Parsons, make a trade,
fill some holes. I would just move on, Calvin. I
know they gonna happened because Jerry always he always gives
in in the end and winds up bending.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
But I this is typical Jerry, isn't it.

Speaker 6 (22:09):
Yeah, this is typical Jerry. This is how he plays
the game. He gets in a war of words with
the star players, and then the player gets the money
that he wants and he keep it moving. That's what
That's how he does it. It's the boxing promoters way
of doing things, Bob am Don King, That's how they
did it for a thousand years.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
And he heard.

Speaker 6 (22:30):
I think he's doing it now and Jerry Jones is
doing it so and we all fall forward, right. So
I think we've gotten a little bit smart over here
is we're just calling him out on it, but he
doesn't care. Saturday, Jerry is the only person that talked
to the media. No players know anybody else because I

(22:50):
can Parsons ask for trade.

Speaker 4 (22:52):
That's exactly what you do, Calvin So. I mean, obviously,
there's so many questions around Dallas. I mean we've talked
talked about it. That division is stacked. I mean the
top two teams and that division is are they going
to be the Commanders and the Eagles? It seems like
Giants are getting better, but the Cowboys. I mean obviously
a lot of talk around Micah and the offense, Dac

(23:13):
and those two receivers, Pickings and Ceedee Lamb. But what's
what's going to be this team's identity.

Speaker 6 (23:20):
That's a good question. I think we're trying to figure
that out. And even Brian Schottenheimer is trying to figure
it out. And you know, they got to have scrimmage
on Tuesday against the Rams and asked him to what
are you looking for in this scrimmage? And you know,
he gave us the whole coach speak. You know, we're
gonna be fast and physical and all this kind of jazz, right,
And I really don't know what kind of team we're

(23:42):
gonna have.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
I do believe that's that's scary to me that you're
the beat writer and you're sitting here going not sure, right, Like,
why don't they don't know?

Speaker 2 (23:52):
They don't know? Like what what what this is going
to be?

Speaker 6 (23:55):
I think they have an idea they want to be
a fast, physical team. But who doesn't why.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
Exactly right?

Speaker 6 (24:03):
You know, you know I'm not you know, I'm not
putting in Hall of Fame because you said you want
to be a fast, physical team. That's right, So but
what kind of team do you have? And obviously Tyler Smith,
who was the starting left guard run of the best
in the business, he said, I like I lost that
they grew a super Bowl roster. Bryan Shottenheimer agreed, and
Jerry Jones agreed. So they think they can go to

(24:23):
the super Bowl, and I'll say, everybody thinks he can
go to super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Right, Yes, it's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Come on, Calvin, really seriously, I just like like to
those guys, I get it, like you hope he carry
knows he was with the Jets. For godsat every year
you're walking around, Oh yeah we got a.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
Doulph, Yeah we're gonna go uh Brett Farb.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
They were eight and three at one point and they
didn't even get they even make the playoffs.

Speaker 10 (24:48):
Calvin, Why are you calling my stats out? What I'm
doing on go back the Calvin? Yeah, but what are
the Cowboys doing? Okay, but you give my point. It's
like the Cowboys were seven and ten a year ago.
We had some bad defensively. My god, he remember they
were getting beat bt like a drum. They got holes
all over the place.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
I just I don't I don't know what's going on here,
and I don't know how the Cowboys feel that they
fit in and they go get a no name coach.
It wasn't on anybody's weightar I know the last name
Schottenheimer and we get that, but my god, really, Brian
schottenh what am I supposed to expect about from him?

Speaker 6 (25:25):
Well, I think a couple of years ago, and Carrie
could attest to this. Shotenheimer was a hot name in
the Martin the coaching scene, and.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
So hot he didn't get a job, right, go ahead.

Speaker 8 (25:37):
Well, well, yeah, that's true.

Speaker 6 (25:38):
He turned down a couple opportunities because he thought it
was going to come back around to him again, and
it never did. And then he took a job at
Georgia and when his wife said how much today paying you?
He didn't even know call him back and figure that out, right, So,
and I was really shocked when one said, yeah, his

(26:01):
name is in the mix.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
And I was like, really you and everybody else?

Speaker 9 (26:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (26:06):
Right, but they there's something about Shot and how may
they like? He has a presence about him. He's a
community you know, he's a great relationship guy. She communication
this guy, you know he does all those things. Well
you know, he comes from good stock. I mean his
dad went over two hundred games in this league and
that's hard.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
To do, right, So how many super Bowls?

Speaker 6 (26:25):
Big ones? He lost?

Speaker 2 (26:27):
A big one? I was okay, I just want to check,
that's all. I'm just checking.

Speaker 6 (26:31):
You know, you can't be wonner.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
No, I'm just saying you just said it once. You
want your game, but never won a Super Bowl. Just
saying that's a fact. That means that at some point
you must have choked at some point. That's all.

Speaker 8 (26:43):
You know, Hey, what do we do? But anyway, Shot
he is here.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
The Cowboys love him.

Speaker 8 (26:50):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (26:50):
You know we had a craftish boil. You got ping
pong tables in a lot of great You know he
had a beat out yesterday.

Speaker 10 (27:00):
Families.

Speaker 6 (27:01):
You know, Shot, he's got tattoos and players talking about tattoo.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
Talking about Calvin can stop feeding it to Rob you give.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
And you know what I'm gonna be saying about the
Cowboys all year, about how shoddy they are and their
play is shoddy.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Remember that Shody.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
Shot He's got a crab bake, a lobster crab bake.

Speaker 6 (27:24):
He's got his own drink to shoddy. I think it's
a vodka and soda something like that. Got his own
little drink. He's got a shotty shake gets special handshakes.

Speaker 8 (27:33):
You know, it's the way of the future.

Speaker 6 (27:35):
It's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
I just I don't see it. I don't Maybe I'm wrong.
Jerry's been doing it wrong for a long time, and
I know everybody just says.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
Hey, it's Jerry.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
This is It's unbelievable that the Cowboy, even the Lions
have been in the NFC Championship game and not even
the Cowboy.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Just think about that over the last thirty years.

Speaker 6 (27:56):
Yeah, I remember the muller Man March that he started.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
That's right, you exactly. I need to go down there
and start a Jerry Man March or something.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Stop it, man.

Speaker 6 (28:07):
I mean there was a fan that this is the
first time I've ever seen it. There was a fan
that practiced Saturday. He had a sign that said sell
the team. Oh, And I was like why. It was
one fan, so I was like wow. And another and
another fan had another sign hoping for Jerry's demise.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
Oh god.

Speaker 6 (28:26):
Yeah. So this is the first time where you're starting
to see the fans get a little there. They've been
fighting on social media, right, but those all fakes, tough guys, right,
come out to he comes to the ballpark, he comes
to the stadium, and that's when you that's when you
do your thing. And so now you're starting to see
a little bit more and more with the fans. But
here's the other thing. And Jerry's one hundred percent right
in this. The fans are gonna keep buying the tickets,

(28:48):
the fans are going to keep purchasing the merchandise.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
And that's that that don't make it right. It don't
make it right, and that that mentality is terrible by Jerry.
And I get it. Fans are starved. They only games
a year.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
I get all that, but that doesn't justify what he's done,
which has destroyed his organization as far as being a.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
Winning culture and a winning team.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
That this team should have won a championship many years
ago with all the players who come by.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Anyway, Calvin Walkins, you're the best.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
We appreciate you. From the Dallas Morning News. We gotta run.
Appreciate you, my massage. I got the Cowboys winning seven
games again and shoddy having shoddy a shoddy.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Performance his first year as head coach.

Speaker 6 (29:28):
All right, more optimistic, I am.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
I got you, Bay, Calvin, I got you, he said,
eight wins. All right, thanks, appreciate it all right.

Speaker 1 (29:36):

Speaker 1 (30:31):
One of my favorite people in the world, Jay Crawford,
is now joining us from uh. He is the host
of the Ultimate Sports Show in Cleveland, where I'm coming
on Wednesday for the NABJ Convention. Jay, say hi to
Kerry Rhoads from your cold Pizza days.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
What's up?

Speaker 6 (30:51):
What's up?

Speaker 7 (30:53):
Ja?

Speaker 2 (30:53):
How you doing brother man?

Speaker 9 (30:55):
It's good to hear your voice.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
I know it's been well man. When Rob brought you up,
I was like, Jays from my cold pizza day. That's right,
the good old days man, A long time ago.

Speaker 9 (31:05):
Old school brother.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
That's right, Jay, let's get right to it.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
So Shador said, uh that you know, he didn't want
to Diana com because you know, he didn't feel like
he's done anything or whatever. And and I said, he
sounds like a cop to me when the cops says, uh,
nothing to see here, keep moving, because you know he
still hasn't gotten those first team rest.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
But where what's happened?

Speaker 1 (31:28):
And then he just signed Hunley Old get yeah quarterback Tyler? Yeahy?
What what do you got on the quarterback situation?

Speaker 9 (31:36):
Because we don't have enough quarterback right falling over people,
I don't know what the hell they're doing. You know,
it's not a good sign for all the guys in
camp because if all four or even three of them
were playing well and looked good in practice, then why
would you bring in a fifth.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
Now.

Speaker 9 (31:54):
I know that there have been some injuries here with
had the tire at arm and obviously Dylan Gabriel was
kept out today with a bit of a hamstring, and
Kenny Pickett also is miss time with the hamstring. But
I just don't get it. I don't know why you
want five camp bodies at quarterback. It just doesn't make sense.
But you know what, that's the way the Cleveland Browns.

(32:17):
Why would you draft a quarterback in the third round
and then in the fifth round?

Speaker 2 (32:20):
Right, that doesn't make sense.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
Where's shaudor what are your odds on Shador making the
team or being a starter.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
I don't know how.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
You don't take any first team reps in mini camp
or training camp yet and you're going to be the
starting quarterback.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
I don't know how that happens.

Speaker 9 (32:34):
Here's the crazy thing, guys, nothing is going to surprise
me because it's the Browns. It wouldn't surprise me if
Joe Flacco starts. It wouldn't surprise me if Joe Flacco
gets cut. And you can say that about all of
the other quarterbacks in camp and so and now that
you've brought in another guy to me, I just think

(32:54):
that that spells doom for two of them. At least
you're not keeping four quarterbacks. You know, Andrew Berry was
asked about the prospect of keeping four and he said,
you know, we could in no universe. Thank you, almost
ten percent of your roster be quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
And that makes sense, right, Nobody does it for a
quarterback for what reason?

Speaker 10 (33:14):
Right?

Speaker 9 (33:15):
Yeah, there's just no reason at all. And Guys, the
more this thing drags on, the more it looks like
they're content with just playing twenty twenty five as if
it was a sweep steak season for a draft pick.
I wouldn't be surprised if they struggle through another three
or four win season. And as for the quarterback, I

(33:36):
think there is a very very high likelihood that the
quarterback of the future is not currently.

Speaker 6 (33:41):
On the roster.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
So, Jay, that's the crazy part about what you just
said right now. I really thought that they were a
quarterback away from really being competitive in that division. So
even with all this quarterback I guess delusion or confusion,
whatever word we want to use about about that situation.
I think they get a quarterback in play, they can
compete in that division steal and I know it may

(34:04):
sound crazy, but that just sounds crazy.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
No, No, I get it.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
But Campa Stefanski is a really good offensive coach in
my mind, So what's going like obviously Cleveland, but what's
going on there in this totality with that.

Speaker 9 (34:17):
Team carry that's a great point. No one expected them
to win three games last year, and obviously they had
a lot of drama at quarterback, and that is the
hub of the wheel. You don't have that position right,
you can easily spiral out of control. I felt last
season spiraled out of control. And I think what happened

(34:39):
is the season went on, was the defense, which had
made great strides the previous season under sports just regress
and I think a lot of that was that I'm
not calling them out for lack of effort, but you
know how it is, Carrie, when one side of the
ball looks so inept and it's going out week after
week and getting single did it first downs single digit points,

(35:03):
that takes its toll on you. And to me, it
looked like a group that by week eight had pulled
the white flag out and we're just you know, playing
out the string. And I think that the pieces of
that defense could end up being very good this year.
That wouldn't surprise me if they rebounded. And to your
point here, like I know, when you look at the

(35:24):
other quarterbacks in the division, it's a gauntlet, right, but
you know if you put they've all you know, obviously
Aaron isn't the franchise answer in Pittsburgh, but Cincinnati and
Baltimore have it. Ye and you know, if you were
to give Cleveland, I think Joe Flacco can still be
that guy.

Speaker 6 (35:43):
I do.

Speaker 9 (35:44):
I know he's prone to throwing the interceptions, but he's
the best quarterback in the room. There's no doubt about that,
if not for only the reason that he's got the
experience and he's got a ring and came off the
couch and went four and wan a couple of years ago.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
And Jay, there's no five your plans in the NFL,
like you're trying to win every year, put the best
teams out there, whoever is the best guy? Like, there's
no no there used to be. Oh yeah, we got
five three, five years. You'll be fired, the general manage
will be fired.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Am I right? Right, there's no five year plans.

Speaker 8 (36:16):
No.

Speaker 9 (36:16):
You know what, it was famously said years ago that
the NFL stands for not for laws, right, And if
you're if you're continually putting out those kind of results,
at the very least Andrew Berry will be gone.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Yep.

Speaker 9 (36:31):
Kevin Stefans I think has a little more equity because
he's won two Coach of the Year awards. He's took
you know, he took two different teams to the playoffs.
He's done it with a myriad of different quarterbacks. Two
years ago and they made the playoffs. They had five
different starting quarterbacks. You know, that's never been done. So
I think he's a fine coach, I really do. I

(36:51):
think the pieces that he's been given are suspect and
I'm being kind.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Hey, Jay, we're up against it, my man. We're up
against all right, my man. We appreciate you. Thanks for
your inside my ma'am. I appreciate your brother.

Speaker 9 (37:06):
Hey always good, carry great here in your voice.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
Absolutely brother, yep, Jay Crawford. Of course the Ultimate Sports Show,
uh in Cleveland? All right, A couple our number three
coming up, and you know what you need to do.
You need to stick and stay America. America is right.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
Do it.
