(01:41):
the Mic podcast on the thirty third Team, formerly of
Pro Football Focus. That's what I was thinking when I
saw his name, and we've had him on the show
before and I couldn't remember, but yes, and also last call,
don't forget your chance to get in in case you
couldn't get in earlier in the program. I know you
might want to revisit Chador or something else. You know,

(02:04):
people were attacking me all the Chador minions and whatnot.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
They all love Shador.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
You can't say anything wrong about him, right But uh carry,
here's something you don't know about me. But every so
often there's a story and my panties will get in
a bunch and this is one of those stories.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Oh man, I'm a little moist right now. I'm just
saying I'm a woman. Rob g.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
We were talking about the athletics piece about the quarterback tears,
and this drove me to tears as.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Yes, the Athletic Annual Quarterback Tiers came out today. Mike
Sander does a great job. Mike Center'll be on the
oct Couple this Thursday, eight thirty pm if you want
to check it out. And so I could trash him, well,
I'm not trashing him. He's just compiling that, ok. And
we can tell him.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Like, what were they thinking? Especially with this one.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
So we mentioned early on in the show that there
are five quarterbacks listed in Tier one on this chart,
Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson. And you
would assume that number five is potentially Super Bowl MVP
Jalen hurts. No, you would assume it might be everybody's favorite.

(03:22):
Make a quarterback that would be Justin Herbert.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
And that's because and I get it. This size his arm,
am I right, he looks like a quarter It looks
like he looks the part. I get it.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
And why they all fall in love with him. He's
got a big arm, he's tall, he's big. I get
all that. But he hasn't played up today, No, not yet.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
More than him.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Some might even say, if it's not Kayleb Williams it's
the previous generational quarterback, Trevor Lawrence non ei there instead,
who is it the number five quarterback Tier one in
the NFL? None other than the Age of Wonder himself,

(04:01):
thirty seven year old bad bat can't even practice these days.
Matthew Stafford aka stat Patford.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Oh my, absolutely ridiculous, the worst. I mean, this makes
you question the whole list. Seriously, Stafford is not a
Tier one quarterback. I mean, what Jalen Hurts carry here
we go, all right, let's get it. This has nothing
to do with Cam Newton either, because he remember when
Jayleen hurts two as well, blaming that he has a

(04:32):
good team around him. What quarterback who won a Super
Bowl didn't have a great team around I mean, stop that.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
That can't be your reason.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
I'm not saying you have to pick him in your
top ten, but it can't be based off of the
players around him. Tell me why he's not in your
top ten and I could buy that, but his reasoning
didn't make any sense. And here's my point. In the
Super Bowl, he lost to Patrick Mahomes. He outplayed Patrick Mahomes.
He played great except for the one and fumble that

(05:00):
wound up being costly, right, But he played great in that.
And now last year the Eagles were supposed to be
about what carries Saquon Barkley.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Oh my god, look at all that He's unbelievable. He's
running from all these yards.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
He it's about Saquon had about nine yards in the
Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
I know it wasn't that low, but you get my point.
He had no impact.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Every analyst you wanted to listen to prior to the
Super Bowl, you know what it said, all the Chiefs
have to do is make uh Jalen Hurst throw the
ball and put stop Saquon and they can win the
Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
And they stopped Saquon. They stop Saquon, and they still
didn't win.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
They got blowed out, as they said at the barbershop
carry They got blowed out, blowed blow blowed out. And
he made every important throw you needed to make. Am
I right, you we all watched it. He played great
and in that Super Bowl. And the disrespect is still

(06:08):
think that you would put a thirty seven year old
broken down Matt Stafford, who had most of his career
is about padded stats. That's what it's called stat Padford
in Detroit over Jalen Hurds. Listen, I don't get it.

(06:30):
I don't get it.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Listen.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
Matthew Stafford is a really good quarterback. And I know
you have your your stuff about him. I only because
I watched him, you know what I mean, Like I
watched him. Yeah, so I'm not looking not from afar.
I covered I told you the I covered the Lions.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
I was a columnist in Detroit every game for fifteen
to twenty years, like every game.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
Yeah, And I'm going to tell you this about Jalen Hurts.
I'm not a big Jalen Hurts fan. I'm a fan
of his in big games. Though big games, he outperforms
the other quarterbacks and so he does his game rises
to a different level in these games that makes you
want to put him on these lists, Like just like
you have this affinity form and you think that he

(07:12):
should be five on this list.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Well, if I only think matt if Vanthew Stafford is, Okay,
that's where my issue. Okay, gotcha, because I'm comparing him
to Stafford.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
Okay, gotcha, because yes, he would be in my mind,
he is a Tier two quarterback. Jalen Hurts now in
big games in the two Super Bowl games that you're
talking about, he was Tier one and those he played
his butt off of those games.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
So why do we give Patrick mahomes all the love
for the coming up big in game.

Speaker 5 (07:39):
I'm about to get to that. Okay, to be a
Tier one quarterback, you got to do this day in
and day out, day in and day out. These the
top four that we talked about, mahomes Borough, Allen Jackson
stand above the rest. I understand that being a Tier
one with Matthew Stafford being Tier one. I don't actually
agree with that either. I think he's a Tier two
guy because I think he falls in line with these

(08:00):
other guys, Jaydon Daniels, Herbert golf Strout, Hurts Mayfield, all
of those guys. I think he's in that same list.
So I just don't. I just don't see him being
Tier one, and that's my only I have him in
Tier one over Matthew Stafford, and then he is over
Matthew there's my argument. You know what I'm saying, if
it was this five lists, he needs to be there

(08:21):
in front of in front of Stafford.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
If Stafford's not in the time, they only went with
the four the four I have. Okay, I told you
Patrick Mahomes the last two years not played as I
don't believe that last year Stafford I think had what
he throwed twelve touchdowns for the twenty touchdowns eight interceptions. Yeah,

(08:47):
there was one stretch last year were their offense it
was all field goal. They couldn't score. Yeah, there's no
I'm like, what is it based on? Is it just
because you remember Matthews Stafford winning a game, winning the
Super Bowl or or what is it? Well, let me
just say his last thing Stafford even in you remember

(09:10):
how they won the Super Bowl, right, he threw a
game winning touchdown?

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Right? Yep?

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Not often due a quarterback throw a game winning touchdown
to win the Super Bowl at at the end and
not get the MVP because he didn't play well. He
had two interceptions before that. He hadn't played well enough.
And if you remember, there was a penalty in the
end zone. That's what's set up the game winning touchdown
for them to win even win the Super Bowl. But
Stafford didn't play well enough. It's very rare that a

(09:37):
quarterback throwing a game winning touchdown with time expiring doesn't
win the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Well, I'm gonna tell you this right now.

Speaker 5 (09:43):
In the NFC Championship game last year, the game before
the Rams played the Eagles, and Stafford outperformed Hurts in
that game and.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Except for when it mattered, it was did never chance,
did have a chance to win, the real chance. I
mean they couldn't get the ball, but they couldn't stop.
They know they got the ball, rob g didn't didn't
they have the ball and went for four and out
in the at the end of the.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Game three scores in three said was left. They brought them,
brought him back down.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
But they want a twenty yard line or something, where
when I then went four and out weld they they.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Wanted twenty five. They had a chip that.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
Had a test. But the Eagles defense had something to
say about that he did. It wasn't his fault, Hurts.
I mean, Stafford in that game balled out.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
You know why balled out?

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Okay as usual because they were down three scores and
the defense, which which I don't I hate, prevent like
I just just keep playing. I just just keep playing.
Stop with the prevent. That's how teams come back all
the time. You start doing stuff and players let people
get behind them somehow, And I'm like, why would you

(10:51):
do that? Just play regular coverage. I don't know, Rob G,
Am I a Sugarno? Am I crazy?

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Rob G? What you got? Did you think about that?
That is a terrible list.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
Look, Matthew Stafford, he's one of those guys like they
talk about in basketball where they say, you know, Kyrie
may I have the accolade to some of his peers,
but he's your favorite player's favorite players.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Yeah, that's good. That's a good one.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
Matthew Stafford is a quarterback where he's like your favorite
quarterback's favorite quarterback because they see the side, they see
the talent, they see the no look passes that he does,
and they're like, man, the way this guy plays quarterback
is just incredible. And then you look at the numbers
and to Rob's point, either they were down big and
he came back and put them all these stats, or

(11:36):
you look at last season where they did win and
they made the players.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
They had a little run there.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Rob talked about it on the show at Nauseum when
it was happening the month of December. The last three
games had to have it right, They got to win
to get in the postseason.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Listen to these numbers.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
The Rams offense scored thirteen, nineteen and twelve, but because
the defense had six, nine and nine the US three
and so it's like Stafford he didn't I'm really cooking
in that game. And then Matthew Stafford in three gotta
have it games to close the season through one touchdown,

(12:14):
one interception, one hundred and fifty three yards per game.
But he's the top tier quarterback.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
I'm in no way, no way, like it's got the
Jalen Hurts where I'm running for sixty yards and like
have to go.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Rob.

Speaker 5 (12:27):
I know you're throwing out these numbers now, but they
also the Rams game plan was a little different this year,
but last year they ran the ball with Camrick Williams
a lot. Why they run it, that's their game plan.
They wanted to keep their defense off the field a
little bit.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
That's fair, and I think that's real football, right, it's
real foot But isn't it also real football that you're
trying to score more than fourteen points a game.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Check that's that you can't have it.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
But you can't say, hey, Joe Burrow's great because he
throws all these yards, all these touchdowns TV reception is crazy, right,
But then also Patrick Mahomes is great because I know
he's like fifty nine percent completion and he's fifteenth in
quarterback rating, but he's fifteen and zero. Right, It's like
you can't be Jimmy Garoppolo and Damn Reno. Like there's

(13:08):
there's a whole spectrum that we got to cover here
in Matthew Stafford being as listed amongst.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
The tier with yeah, I mean Lamar Allen Burrow and
I just don't I don't think that. What was that was.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
That Sesame Street or one of these things don't don't
go together. Whatever, it was like something like he just
doesn't fit with that when I look at that list
that that's like we have nobody else?

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Who else can we throw in it?

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Oh? Yeah, that guy won a Super Bowl three years ago?
Would he be Tier two for you? Though?

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Like I said, I think it's Tier two? Yeah, yeah,
I would be. I'd be more comfortable with two two, Okay.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
I just well, you know what's funny is like a
third of the voters had Jayalen Hurts in Tier three
really and it's like, so why does one guy get
the benefit? Is it because like the way it looks better.
That just is that really what it comes down? Like
the Lamar Jackson didn't get credit till this year, I know,
because he does it in a different way. So he's
never gonna to be appreciated the way some of these
other guys.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
But that's crazy, alright, eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Who's better Jalen Hurts or Matthew Stafford? You know where
I'm coming from. Carry, I think he's coming around, right,
you're with me? Carry?

Speaker 5 (14:20):
No, I still think overall Matthew Stafford is a little
bit better doing the regularly.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Okay, Yeah, I'm just saying I don't know.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
No, I just you know why Carrie likes Stafford because
he used to pick off quarterbacks like that in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
So you kind of like, Oh no, I like that,
I like the gunslingers.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
I like him.

Speaker 6 (14:37):
Yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
How many interceptions get from Brett farv right? I got
a couple? I know you did?

Speaker 7 (14:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Yeah, and they come right to you, didn't they? Yeah?
Carrin even movies, I know, all right? Right, you know,
thinking Brett even.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
If even the statistician like made that as a reception.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
They're not an interception. They don't like that's a reception.
That's not ample all eight.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Seven, seven ninety nine On Fox You want to hear

Sam Munson uh is coming up. He is a co

(16:42):
host of the Check the Mic podcast on the thirty thirteam.
That's coming up in about six or seven minutes. We're
taking more of your phone calls eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
It's simple. Where you got Jalen Hurt.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
So you got Matthew Stafford, stat Patford, whatever you want.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
To call him.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
I'm down with Jalen Hurts. I'm sorry, I just cannot Stafford. No,
and I'm not do Stafford over Jalen Hurts. But I
think they're in the same tier anyway. But we got
Justin from Bermuda. You're on with the couple, how are you?

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Man? Just hear me, Yes.

Speaker 8 (17:18):
A couple of the nationals.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
We love it, my man in Bermuda. That's it very nice.

Speaker 8 (17:25):
And the king of the dropped adletition on the DJ
man really appreciate you. Listen, Rob you you like the
most dedicated stat Padford hater ever is I love it?
Love you are truly dedicated, dedicated. He's right on this one,
Stafford Stad Padford is better than is just Jalen Hurts

(17:50):
is great and big game, but he can't do it
every game?

Speaker 7 (17:53):
Now?

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Does that that?

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Well, what are we playing for?

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Are we playing for for a meaningless game on a
on a Thursday night or we playing for the big
moment in a big situation. And all I'm saying is
he's not terrible like inting the regular season games, but
he does come to play, you know. And and this
is the issue I have, Justin, is that everybody said

(18:16):
that the Kansas City, if they would stop Sakwon Barkley
and make Justin throw the ball, they beat him.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Didn't happen? Did we lose them?

Speaker 8 (18:29):
I'll say this a lot of these guys that talk
about the games like they really don't know it. But
that Eagle team was way too much for the Chiefs.
And yeah, Jalen played pretty good. But I think Carrie
had it right. There's only four guys in the first
tier anyway, like you shouldn't be trying to fit any
guy in that six.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Stafford is not a first tier quarterback. I'm sorry, I
don't care what league we're talking about.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Is this the World League?

Speaker 8 (18:52):
All right?

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Appreciate it?

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Thank you for listening in Bermuda or appreciate that we
got Andre from Massachusetts.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
You owned with the Akaba? Are you Dre? What's up?
Are this your boy Drake doing?

Speaker 9 (19:04):
Thanks for taking the call.

Speaker 7 (19:06):
Rob back from the uh ah an a b J.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
You know, great conference, you know, you know we had
a We had a great time in Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
They really they set it out nice for us. It
was great.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
I mean for me to go back to drinking, that
tells you where were yeah, and eating bread.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
I mean, Andre, I just fell off the wagon.

Speaker 7 (19:25):
So you're gonna get right back into the swing of things.
He's gonna put the rocky music on and you're gonna
work it. You're gonna work it off and it's back
just like New but speaking of Rocky, there's no two
ways about this. For me, jialing Hurts okay, all day,
every day over mister stat Pafford over mister Pempey calorie statistics,
as Rob likes to say. And he got the one
super Bowl okay, But right now today, never mind the

(19:47):
ten year difference, I'm taking jailing Hurts on every single opportunity.
And people can push back as much as they want
about how the Eagles change their style of play to
be to get in line with what was working rather
than you know, this modern NFL just spread everything out
throwing throw it all the way down the field. But
that doesn't mean that Jalen Hurts can't put a team
on his back. It means that he had an offensive

(20:09):
juggernaut and Takuon Barkley on his team last year, and
so they're gonna, you know.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
They're gonna why not utilize them, right, You got a
running back like that, you should utilize that.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
Well.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
We also had we saw a team that Baltimore Ravens
that had Derreck Henry and was a stud and Lamar
Zackson still put a four thousand yards. So it's still
about consistency with Hurts. I don't think he does it
day in and day out.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
I'm going to Stafford's numbers. Last year he wasn't very
consistent either, stretch, I mean down when they really need
to win. That he didn't put it together for sure.
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, we got Jerome
from Charleston. You're on with the A couple.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
How are you? Man? What's up?

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Jerome?

Speaker 10 (20:44):
Just let me tell you from bus Stafford.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Okase bad so dropped him, horrible weever?

Speaker 8 (20:50):
Okay, mistakes bad wever. Ye don't cook him to the
wall and have him.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
I know, Jerome, year, who won the game?

Speaker 2 (20:59):
You?

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Who won the game? Who won the game?

Speaker 2 (21:03):
They were Stafford went was at the twenty five yard line,
they went four and ow all.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
Right, finish the job if you that guy, finish the job, Jerome, Jerome,
I'm with your brother. I'm with the Jerome.

Speaker 8 (21:17):
Dalen Jalen Hurts will never have the career Matt Stafford.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Jesse will. He's already he's already hold.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
He's already had a noise. Not Matt Stafford. Stafford, no one.

Speaker 8 (21:28):
Stop quarterback, no quarterback has carried the lord for fifteen.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
Yeah, you know what when I when I was in
Detroit and I watched all those games. They were down
twenty one nothing in the first quarter. All those stats
are empty. He threw in front of the defense. Stop
it all right, Jerome, you think you think Jalen.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Appreciate the call. Let's squeeze one morning, which I get
one more in?

Speaker 5 (21:52):
Okay, we got up. We got Scott from North Carolina.
You're on with the odd couple. How are you?

Speaker 9 (21:56):
I'm doing good. I'm gonna get certain to the point.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
What's up, Scott? What's up?

Speaker 9 (22:00):
This is crazy, though, mis Sugar. All his career he's
never been considered a top taer quarterback. All of a sudden,
he's a top taer quarterback. And let me speak about
the playoff game. There was never a doubt that we
were going to lose that game. Never thought we meet
him earlier in this season as well. It was never
thought we was gonna lose that game. And on Jayla

(22:22):
Hurts they this is this credit is twenty twenty two
year run dag like he's been a starter for one year.
This is four years. He's been a started playoff each
year and he always hasn't had si sick on Barkley,
so like this is nothing new to him, getting to
the playoffs and reaching the Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (22:39):
Scott, Scott, Scott, do you you have him as a
Tier one quarterback going tier two?

Speaker 9 (22:45):
I have him as tare one because because he makes
everybody around better as well, Like he's a true quarterback
on a hand off the field, and that's something mess
Stafford never done. He's never elevated anybody or his teammates.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
All right, there we go. Appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
All right, Coming up, Sam Munson from the coast of

It is the Odd Couple on a Magic City Monday,
Rob Parker Kerry Roads in for kelvin Washington right here
on Fox Sports Radio, Sam Monson. He is the co
host of Check the Mic podcast on the thirty third Team.
Welcome into the Odd Couple, Sam. How are you saying
hi to Kerry Rhodes.

Speaker 10 (23:47):
I'm doing well, guys, how are you what's.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Up, guy? Doing great?

Speaker 6 (23:50):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Just the check the mic. I like the name of
the podcast.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
I was trying to say that Michael Parsons I wanted
to rename his podcast to turn off the Micah. I'm
just saying, but Sam, thanks for joining us. Let's just start.
I mean, Shador Sanders your take. I mean people are
acting like people were saying that he can't play, and
they're like.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
Oh, look see he can't play. Oh my god, that's
not what it was about.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
What did you just make of his first action in
training and preseason game?

Speaker 10 (24:26):
Yeah, I thought he looked good. He was accurate, He
made some good decisions. His two touchdown passes were some
of the best rows he made in the game. You know,
the first one was really nice, accurate ball. The second
one he showed some really nice sort of pocket presence,
moved to his right, didn't bail from the pocket, which
is something he hasn't always been the best at in college.

(24:49):
And I thought it was encouraging. And you know, that
was a rare opportunity for him because two of their
quarterbacks were held out injured. The other one, Joe Flacco,
was held out because you know, he's an old man.
And it's probably going to be starting a regular season, right.
So Shador got like the whole game almost to play,
and that's an opportunity that a fifth ram rookie you know,

(25:10):
doesn't usually get, and he really took advantage of it.
And at the very minimum, the Browns are going to
have to look at him more, you know, in this
in this training camp, they're gonna have to give him
some better rats. They're gonna have to look at him
with the first.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Well, they haven't done that yet.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
It just came out Sam that he hasn't moved up
at all, and they're there, they're watching him. I just
always question, uh, you know, if they really believe they
had something by this point, they've watched him now, in
his habits and what he's done. They could have moved
him up if they really believed, you know what I mean,
that they have something special. And I just wonder what

(25:46):
would be the reason to keep them att for string
if you if you really don't believe, if you believe
that he has something.

Speaker 10 (25:54):
Yeah, I mean, it's still just one preseason game, you know.
I get to see more of him and everybody than
the rest of us. But I think at the very minimum,
you should start giving him some reps with the teams
above him, you know, give him some reps as the
third string or the second string. Doesn't mean you need
to jump them over Dylan Gabriel right this second, just
because of one game, but he should be getting those

(26:16):
kinds of looks and that's what he hasn't had yet
so far in training camp.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
I remind people that the year the Lions went on
and sixteen, they went four to zero in the preseason.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
I'm just saying, but.

Speaker 5 (26:26):
No, Sam, So the thing is they got they got
four guys, right, four guys that you know we know
two of them are you know, black Oles won a
Super Bowl pickets capable, but we know we know they
traded some they traded some assets for him for picket
for picket. Out of those four quarterbacks, I mean, you're
not going to keep four in the active RUSS. So
what do you think the plan is with with Cleveland

(26:48):
with those guys?

Speaker 10 (26:50):
Yeah, I mean I feel like Kenny Pickett is the
odd man.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
I That's what I feel.

Speaker 10 (26:54):
Depth shock, Ye.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
So I can't see that.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
I can't see two Wookie quarterbacks being there, and especially
with an old man, right, and that if he gets hurt,
You're gonna go you're the Brown. You're gonna go to
two rookie quarterbacks and playing the league. That doesn't make
sense to me.

Speaker 10 (27:10):
Yeah, I mean, I think Schador Sanders and Kenny Pickett
are basically battling for a roster spot. You know, Dylan
Gabriel is a third round draft pick. He's basically safe.
You know, you're almost never getting rid of a third
round draft pick before the first season that he's played football.
Even if he's terrible, I mean, if he stinks some preseason,

(27:31):
he's probably still making the roster. So the only thing
that Shadur can do is prove that he's a better
bet than Kenny Pickett and actually jump over Dylan Gabriel
and them have both those guys make the roster. So
that's the challenge is that, you know, we're getting excited
after this one preseason game of Shdur Sanders, but he's
coming from fourth on the depth chart and he's trying

(27:52):
to convince them that he's a better bet to hold
on to in the regular season. Then, as you said,
the guy that's got some experience, you know that is
a veteran, and that's not that easy. I mean, he's
got to really show them that he's serious.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Yeah, no doubt the tears came out the athletic with
the quarterbacks. I don't think Patrick Mahomes it's not a
lifetime Achievement award. The last two years, like people don't
want to look at his stats. People don't want to
and Sam, this is my argument. Last year it went
fifteen into the Chiefs at one point, I think they
were thirteen and zero or whatever, and Patrick Mahomes got

(28:29):
zero first places votes for MVP. How in a quarterback
league with a team that did that well, why don't
go to the super Bowl because he didn't play that well?
I mean they won games. I'm not I get it.
But the last two years, if you honestly look at
Patrick Mahomes's stats and numbers, they aren't that great.

Speaker 10 (28:49):
No, they're not. And I think there's a couple of
things working there. Number One, he does seem to be
able to turn it on in the playoffs and that
you know, that's something you hear a lot about quarterbacks.
But Mahomes does seem to be able to do that.
And if you look at his career, his entire career,
once he gets to the playoffs, he massively shrinks down

(29:09):
the number of sort of big mistakes he makes with
the football. You know, PFF tracks turnover worthy plays, So
whether or not it was caught, whether it was whether
it was actually turned over or not, how bad was
the decision. And Mahomes massively shrinks those plays as soon
as he hits the postseason. So I think number one,
we can give him a little bit of credit for

(29:29):
that and say, look, even if a couple of these
other quarterbacks might be better in the regular season, how
many of them would you take over Mahomes in a
real crunch playoff game if everything else was equal.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
I get that if you're looking at his entire career.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
But I'm thinking you're basing this off of what happened,
like what happened, and his numbers are the same numbers
that Aaron Rodgers had.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
I mean, they really are.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
People are honest with themselves, and they say Aaron Rodgers
is terrible, has nothing left, and Patrick Mahomes is the
best quarter back in the league. Something doesn't make sense
to me.

Speaker 10 (30:03):
No, I agree, And look, the other thing is, you know,
if you want to if you're fighting the Mahomes corner,
is you would say, look, that receiving corps last year
was not what it's been in years past as well.
But I'm with you. Look, I think it kind of
depends how you judge these things, Right. It's like, who
is the greatest quarterback? In abstract terms, Maybe Mahomes is

(30:25):
in that conversation, But if you're like, who do you
think is going to play the best during you know,
the next seventeen weeks of the regular season, You're probably
not picking Mahomes. You're picking Josh Allen.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
Right, or Lamar Jackson or even Joe Burrow. Yep.

Speaker 5 (30:39):
Yeah, I think that four is interchangeable for sure. The
only problem I have with it was it was a
unanimous nine one, which is crazy to me, right, But
I'm gonna switch it to another quarterback that was actually
a Tier one guy that me and Robin have been
going back and forth about stat pad for Matthew Stafford,
and I'm not talking about his play, but his availability
his back is right now?

Speaker 1 (31:00):
Is that is it going to be an issue all season?

Speaker 8 (31:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (31:04):
I mean, I don't know if it's going to be
an issue all season, but it's definitely scary if you're
a Rams fan, right, now. I mean he's at that age.
We talked about this in our show last week. You know,
people like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have kind of
broken everybody's expectations for how quarterbacks are supposed to age.
But if you go back, you know a few years,
thirty seven used to be the age these guys were done.

(31:25):
Oh yeah, and that's where Matthew Stafford is right now.
And you know, anyone that's reached that kind of age,
you know, stuff on your body just starts to break
down on you in a way that it didn't when
you were in your twenties. So for Matthew Stafford to
be that age and dealing with a back injury, that's
that's just those are scary words to put together.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
If you're a RAMS fan, Yeah, no doubt I Sam Man,
We appreciate you, thanks for the knowledge, and we'll have
you on soon. Okay, you're said to Sam anytime, guys
thinking Sam Munson
