(01:25):
Dan Patrick. He's the greatest post there is. But for
all this week, there's a very gid seat while he
spends time with his kids, be god to stand in,
try to build his massive shoe block. Boy. You know
what they say, guys who have made the probably have
a huge as PAULI would say, no need to comment

(01:48):
on that. Dan. Here's Jason McIntyre and Rob Parker. Hello
and welcome to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.
I am Jason McIntyre. He is Rob Parker. We are
filling in for Dan Patrick and the Danettes. Rob, good morning.

(02:10):
How are you doing. I'm doing just great, mister McIntyre,
how are you. I'm excellent. Had a wonderful Christmas, spend
a lot of time with the family. We got two kids, right,
I got two kids. Christmas is about kids. I know
they love it. It's the people asking me, right, Jay,
would you get for Christmas? I'm like underwear, daddy a tie?

(02:31):
Right exactly? How didn't get a new car? A new car? Right? Understand?
But Christmas is great and it's also great to be
filling in during his time. Indeed, because sports never stops
no matter what the holidays are, there's still so much more.
It's not like some places where they could just put
on some sort of tape something. You know what I

(02:53):
mean reruns or the best of shows, the best of
the year or whatever. Man, things are going on. Yeah,
well things are not going on well for the Lakers.
On Christmas Day, their star, their centerpiece, the guy they
just got six months ago, Lebron James went down with
a groin injury. Now, I was kind of shocked that
the Lakers held on and beat the Warriors badly on

(03:15):
the road. Yeah, I mean, those things happen. I mean,
I know, if people want to make it a statement
game or the Lakers are gonna win the finals now
or knock them off, I think that's a little premature. Yeah.
The reality is a game in December in the NBA
doesn't mean jack squat. I mean, listen, even even a
butt ticking like that on national television, you know, on
the Christmas Day when everybody in their uncle of watching

(03:37):
the NBA basketball. It's a nice win for them. But
let's not you know, let's get crazy. Definitely not again.
The Warriors have lost five games, I believe by twenty
or more this year, Like they don't seem to care.
They're going through the motions. But then I watched the
Lakers reaction to the Lebron injury. I mean he went down,
They went off, Kuzma, Ingram, even your guy Rondo Lonzo.

(03:58):
I mean, the Lakers were tremendous and everybody's sitting here,
Oh my gosh, this is panic. The Lakers are in
trouble Lebron. I mean, he's turning thirty four here in
three days. You know that we're gonna wish Lebron a
happy birthday. Of course, happy birthday. But Rob, I'm not
panicked whatsoever about this Lebron injury. This is not serious.
He's day to day. He's not gonna play in Sacramento tonight.

(04:21):
He may return for the game Friday against the Clippers
at Staples. I may be going to that. Are you interested? Yeah,
I might get there. We may check that out. But
I totally disagree and I understand that this injury right here.
Thank god the Mriri came back clean. People are saying
it's not it could have been even worse. But this

(04:43):
is the worst scenario to me, the worst case scenario
for the Lakers and Lakers fans, because all of a sudden,
you see that Lebron Jane, for all of his um
years of playing without being injured, for him being in
it's great shape and all this that he's like so
many other athletes. When you get older and there's a

(05:05):
chance that something can happen and you could get hurt.
People who think that it's just like, oh, well, he'll
win the world he'll win a championship in the four
years he's in LA. People forget sixteen years in if
you count the two hundred and thirty nine playoff games,
that's another three years. That's nineteen years. And as you

(05:26):
get older, there's more chances. And now if Lebron comes
out and plays differently on on you know, on his
legs because of that growing injury, just just because you
just felt some horrible pain and you and thank god
it didn't rip or tear you know what I mean,
that you might wind up compensating or doing something else
to your body. It's it's it's human nature. Happens all

(05:49):
the time. Where you do you know, you act differently
because something just happened to you. So I'm not saying
for sure he's gonna get hurt, but to me, and
I said this when he when he came to LA,
if the Lakers don't win a championship his first two years,
they won't win one. He's gonna get worse as he
gets older, not better. Interesting and then if you add

(06:11):
the idea that possibly there could be injuries. We saw
Kobe at the end of his career. Go, there's a
list of players who all it all ended with injuries
late and their basketball careerscause that's usually what happened. Yeah,
we have doctor Rob Parker in this morning. That's right.
I'm not a doctor, but I play one or sports
talk radio. Great injury to Lebron and I write prescriptions.

(06:35):
I see it the total opposite way. I think a
guy like Karl Malone, right, car Malone played until he
was forty. You know, when Karl Malone was thirty seven,
he averaged twenty three and eight. When he was thirty
eight years old, Karl Malone averaged twenty two and eight.
I just Kr Malone had that indestructible body. And Lebron
we know he's a workout fleet. Okay, you you follow

(06:55):
him on Instagram. That guy's working out doing these cool
uh you know, new unique videos that he's training his
body and that guy's in I got you wait a minute.
I love that. And just like Carl Malone, Lebron won't
win a championship, So go ahead, stop compare him to
call Malone and I'll tell you what championship to call.

(07:18):
Wait a minute, Car Malone was on the stack team
of Lakers. Yeah, Jack, Kobe, Gary Payton, and Carl Malone
right there, potential four Hall of famers all on the
same squad, and they were beaten by the Detroit Pistons
that didn't have a star on the team. Do you
remember that two thousand and four Carl Malone was hitting
on Kobe's wife whatever it was. They didn't win, dude,

(07:41):
they didn't win. Remember Shack and Kobe won three in
a row without call Malone and Gary Payton. The beauty
of Lebron is rob This year, he's playing the fewest
minutes in his career. He's saving his body for the playoffs.
He knows that. And what's cool is he's playing almost
two full minutes fewer that he did last year, and

(08:01):
his numbers are the exact same twenty seven eight rebounds,
seven assists, and he's got the Lakers. I still believe,
And I said this in the summer, and you killed
me and Boussard crushed me. This is the second best
team in the West. They're not going to get bounced
from the playoffs by anybody except the Warriors. And that's
because of how good and indestructible Lebron or Thanos could

(08:24):
we call him Thanos if you're a superhero guy, there
you go. Okay, nobody's taken down Lebron. No groin injury
is killing him. Kobe, we saw that Achilles. That's a
year long recovery. You don't bounce back from an achilles quickly.
All I'm saying is I think it's so premature. You
don't even know. Pull up the standings. Where were they
finished last year? At a difference between Jason the third

(08:46):
seed and the eighth seed was two games. So they
could have a decent record out West and wind up
the seventh or eighth seed or six or seventh seed,
And if they play another one of these teams where
they got to go on the road, they could lose
in the first round. That's what I'm trying to Yes,
did we not just see Lebron with an inferior cast
in Cleveland last year? Go all the way to the finals.

(09:08):
How many talking with the Pacers, how many championships did
he win in Cleveland? Eleven years. No fine asking you
how many championships did he win in Cleveland in eleven years? Well,
I mean I think the first final. No, how seven
years he got to the final, worst supporting cast in
NBA history, and how much spurs. Then he returned to

(09:28):
Cleveland with Kyrie and won a championship over the seventy
three The lad would say, the greatest regular season team
in NBA. The last two times in the final, they've
been uncompetitive. Yeah, they have no chance. Lebron has won
one NBA Finals game in the last two years. And
that one game they shot like seventy five percent from
the field. Wasn't it was? It was an anomaly. You

(09:49):
know that that's the only game. When I look at
the standings that Lakers or two and a half back
in the West, it sounds like you think they need
to make a move sooner than later because Lebron's getting
old and his groin injury could become something major down
the road. Like are you pressing the panic button? Is
you ready to ship the young guys out? It's not
a panic button. Instead, I don't believe and Lebron even

(10:11):
knows this that he can win with what he has no, no, no, no,
it's not that it can't be Warriors. No, nobody can
take down this team. No, but he he would annihilate
Michael Jordan's Bulls in their prime. I'm telling Curry, I'm
telling you. I'm telling you right now, Houston would if
they were matched up, sake, Houston was the number two
seed and the Lakers were seven, Houston would beat the

(10:32):
Lakers in the first Totally disagree with that. Now the
Rockets are playing better of late. They've won seven of ten.
They're the seventh seed. All the Lakers have to do
is avoid the Warriors until the Western Conference Finals, and
the Lakers will be there. Lebron carry do you see
how good he's made Kuzma. Kuzman, he's already good. Last
year good, he's taken a leap an All Star. Kuzma

(10:55):
was good last year, but he's a rookie. No, but
he was good. He's not afraid to shoot. I like,
I like worst defensive players. That is okay, but I
like uh Kuzma's uh mentality about he's going to score
the basketball, He's gonna shoot, He's not afraid. So I'm
not saying that uh uh Kuzma hasn't uh benefited at
all if I haven't Lebron around. But look at the

(11:16):
other guys who have taken a step back, brandon Ingram's
not the same. He never made a step forward. Well,
I'm not saying I'm talking about being with Lebron and
even Lonzo. There's a lot of bad knights. Of course,
there have been some good ones too, but there's a
lot of bad nights too. He hasn't blossomed, so everybody
hasn't benefited from that yet. All I'm saying is I'm
not buying into that they're going to the NBA Finals

(11:39):
and all that. They're gonna think that one game, but
Kevin Durant may leave this offseason and then the door
opens wide. Rob. I just want to say I trust
the stats. Okay. I'm a numbers guy, and I just
want to say currently in the NBA, Lebron is fifth
in player efficiency rating, none of that, okay. And you

(11:59):
want to say he doesn't defense, Okay, I looked it up.
ESPN Defensive real plus minus. They chart the defensive stats.
Lebron is eighth in small forwards, best defensive small forward
least the head of hold Up, ahead of Jason Tatum,
Kevin Durant, and Kawhi Leonard. I thought he was the
best player on the planet. What are you saying hens forwards? Defensively,

(12:23):
he's thirty four, he's got a rest on defense, bad guy?
And where is he with making free throws? When the
game is on the line? Free throws are not very good.
I think he's sixty seven percentage. Okay, that's that's that's
the greatest for the season. That's the greatest player of
all time. I didn't say that. I'm just asking when
people tell me that there sixty seven. So the difference
between some of them not the greatest is free throws. No, yeah,

(12:45):
when the game's on the line, doesn't alter what kind
of shot you jacks not in the discussion? Then does
it fifty percent? For then that's why no one ever
said he was the greatest of all time. But I'm
at the top ten player of all time. But anybody
says the greatest? No, okay, wait, who say he's the greatest?
Know a lot of people think Lebron's a great I'm
just asking you when you have a guy that narrow,

(13:06):
where are the Lakers in the NBA free throws? I
will pull that up, pull it up. They're like, they're
like dead last. Yeah, freestrow shooting has not been good
for the Lakers. Do you think that's good when you're
playing in tight games in the postseason that you can't
make free throws? Yeah, you know. I'm just feel like
they're a team that's gonna make them when they matter.
Dead last in the NBA. Lebron James on a team

(13:28):
that's dead last in the category, how how could that be? Well,
he's not a he's not a great free throw shooter.
I'm not. I mean, there's so many things that go
into a basketball play. Well, I'm just shoot, yeah, I'm
just I'm just trying to make the point that those
are the big moments. Those are when Lebron James gives
up the basketball to somebody else because he don't want
to step to the No, he's making the basketball play.

(13:50):
I'm Jason mckintter. I'm into Lebron making the basketball play.
He's he's finding the open guy, getting an open look.
I'm just not sounding the alarm on Lebron James. I
know there's a lot of people out there saying, hey man,
you gotta make a trade for Anthony Davis. First of all,
can we just squash that for the time being, Like
the Pelicans are not trading Anthony Davis exact, there's no

(14:10):
incentive for them too. So Lakers fans, you got to
ride with which you got right now. And I actually
don't think they have anything that's bad. This Lebron team
is awesome. Now, I will say this, Rob, I don't
know how active you are on Instagram. Yeah, I'm very active.
You love it, right, It's a great it's a great medium.
So one of Lebron's old trainers took a bit of
a shot at him as soon as the groin injury happened. So,

(14:34):
I since I've only moved out to LA two years,
I've been out here and one of the big things
is a cost of living jump right. I moved from
the East Coast out here in LA. It's a lot
more expensive to live in LA. So Lebron has his
Lebron tarage, as they call it. He everywhere he goes,
every commercial, he's got a massuse, he's got a chef
telling him what he can and can't eat. This guy

(14:55):
cares about everything that goes into his body. And one
of his you know, trainers, is biochemist, a guy who
really can work on you in advanced thinking ways that
most NBA players don't care about. Okay, the one guy
that didn't make the leap, Lebron's Barbara comes. His chef
is his guy who is a trainer and worries all

(15:17):
about like the chemistry of the body and how it
works together. To Barbara, Lebron, Barbara deal got it. He
probably got a great deal. I don't know where he is.
He might be living out. It's somewhere in the valley
in a rough area. I don't know, but I do
know that everybody in Lebron's crew, you know, was like, Hey,
I'm working with Lebron, I'm going to LA and his
one guy takes a shot at him on Instagram. Did

(15:39):
you think that was out of bounce? You work with
Lebron for many years in Miami, in Cleveland, and then
he kind of kicks you to the curb as the
story goes, did you think it's out of bounce to
take a shot at Lebron when he's down. I get
I get people not happy. I guess if I was
with somebody for a long time and we were moving
from the Midwest where everywhere is cheaper to live of

(16:00):
and you moved to Los Angeles and you don't want
to give me an increase and pay. I would I
think I'd have a problem too. I probably wouldn't have
taken a job as well. Wow, I'm not going to
go somewhere and then struggle because I just want to
do you know what I mean being around something. You
have a family, you have up bills to pay, you
have other things. You're not going to go somewhere to
struggle make a move like that. Los Angeles is very expensive,

(16:23):
so I mean that's what people do. I'm not surprised
that maybe what was it veiled or was it like
it was? It was an Instagram story and he did
not mention Lebron, but it was clearly veiled. Right, That's
what I'm saying. It's like you you'll you'll take some
shots of people or me. Yeah, yeah, you go after
some folks. It's fun. I will say, Rob when I
come out of Christmas and the Holidays, I've got this kinder,

(16:44):
gentler Jason vibe. Really I'm not I'm checking Twitter lesson
last you know, I'm starting to just not care so
much about all the negativity on there. I will say this,
as soon as the Lakers lose three in a row,
go on social media and it is just a sewer.
Lebron is the worst. Why don't we trade for him?
You know, these Laker fans just absolutely crazy. So listen,

(17:06):
I'm not worried about Lebron. I think it's all good.
But coming up next year on The Dan Patrick Show,
Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker absolutely is concerned about Tom
Brady and the New England Patriots. Brady plans to play
for the Patriots in twenty nineteen, but do they want

(17:27):
him to play for them? That's next. It's Jason McIntyre,
Rob Parker on the Dan Patrick Show. Back here on
the Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio. I'm Jason McIntyre.

(17:49):
He's Rob Parker. Ladies and gentlemen, we do get along.
I mean we're gonna disagree on some topics like Lebron
and this next topic, but I promise you Parker and
I we're buddies. It's all in good fund Some guys
don't understand that, Rob. They're back and forth, they're disagreeing.
We're not slinging mud here, just real talk. You can
follow Rob on Twitter at Rob Parker FS one and

(18:11):
I'm Jason R. McIntyre. It's a radio show and it's
an opinion nothing like Find of the World. Even if
you're wrong, Jason, and even if you know I get it.
I mean, but we have a different we come from
different backgrounds. I've come from the journalism background. I'm not
I'm not a fan. I'm not a fan boy. From

(18:31):
the standpoint of I don't care if Lebron wins. I
don't care if any player wins. People think that I
have Oh you you hate Lebron or you hate Tom
Brady or you hate this guy. I don't. I don't
them winning or losing doesn't affect me at all. That's
not what I'm into. I'm just gonna tell you what
I'm seeing and give you my honest opinion, whether people

(18:55):
like it or not. I think so that that's where
I'm at, and whether people think because I say something
like I could say ten nice things about somebody, and
as soon as you say something that they don't want
to hear to go, oh see, Rob Parker is a hater. Hater,
He's a hater in the house. It's called I'm a reporter.
It's not on my hate. I'm a reporter, That's what
I am. I'm a realist as well. Um. Now, on

(19:17):
this next topic, though, Rob, I will say, it's easy
to disagree given how badly he's struggling. But Tom Brady
is coming off an atrocious performance. What was his quarterback rating?
Forty eight points, the worst in his career in a victory.
It was the worst in his career in a victor.
Why don't we start here, Um, tom Brady yesterday or

(19:41):
maybe two days ago, said hey, I want to play
next year. I intend to play next year. I guess
he'll be forty two in August? Is that right? Is
forty one now? And Tom Brady. Bill Belichick was right
on the money with Tom Brady when he wanted Garoppolo
to stick around, to be ready right to replace tom Brady.

(20:03):
He always believed in Jason that he'd rather get rid
of somebody a year early rather than the year late. Yeah, okay,
so so and and the whole notion. I get it.
Tom Brady won five Super Bowls. You can't treat a
guy like that. We saw this in New York with
with Eli Manning. Do you remember when the Street ended
and they won to Bencham Jerry rees to general manager

(20:25):
and Ben Mcatu bec Dude, those guys got got got
killed by They got killed for for benching Eli. They
were right, they were right. I had to break it
to you. He lies having a good seas Please he is.
He's no reason. No, he's not me Why the numbers season?
But the numbers are after they were one in six,

(20:46):
one and seven. When the season's over, those numbers don't matter.
Those numbers don't matter. Go to the first seven games
when they were playing for something. Anybody can play. Once
the season's over, stop defense can't stop it. Nos bleed,
they're awful. Fine, you buy the numbers. Eli. Manning is
having the highest completion percentage season of his career, sixty

(21:09):
six percent his interceptions. Wait, his interceptions are down to ten.
That's the fewest, tied for the fewest for a full
season in his career. Nineteen TV passes. That's fine, say
Quon Barkley's carrying him and he's not a checkdown, Charlie.
And wait a minute. In a league where guys are
throwing forty and fifty touchdowns, you're talking about who forty touchdown?
No one guy's got forty teens. You're talking about nineteen

(21:32):
being something. Sam Pots, Why are they running team? Why?
Because they they've got issues. Odell Beckham has been hurt.
Not the can't trust Elaw. You play to your strengths.
When our past week, when our producer came to us
and said, what do you guys want to talk about?
I knew because you play to your strengths, you were
gonna say, Brady Patriots, let's go. And I said, great,

(21:54):
let's do it. And then we said, Lebron, let's go.
You play to your strengths. And that's what the Giant's
strength is right now. Sae Quon Barkley and Eli Manning
can carry you as a game manager. What's the what's
their record there? Five and ten? Okay, you're gonna blame
e Live for that. The defense can't stop anybody. I'm
telling you then is garbage. Go over elis game logs
the first four or five games and tell me which

(22:15):
would so the first four games this season, Eli Manning
had one interception and four Tdsky quarterback rating sixty seven
ninety eight, one thirty two ninety nine. And what was
your record? They were one and three? It wasn't his fault.
I don't want to be defended Eli Manning. Guy, I'm
a Jets fan, but Eli Manning's not the reason that

(22:35):
just just Tom Brady's not the reason the Patriots are struggling. Yeah,
tom Brady is the reason that they will not n
ot make the playoff. This fantasy playoff run that people
are living in the past. They've got the Patriots going
on to the s they're not going to I'll bet
you right now chicken wings from Wingstop that they need
more than that. Let's just well, just okay, let's start

(22:55):
friendly bet again. I like to trust the numbers, right,
You gotta back the numbers. You know that what you
do the I test in watching Tom Brady and all.
I'm telling you, when Tom Brady can't throw a ball
out of bounds in that game in Pittsburgh, you gotta
take a look at that and go, what what what?

(23:15):
What's going on here? He didn't have the arm strength.
Tom Brady's gunshy of getting hit after playing all these
years in the NFL. You can watch it go. We
had Warren Moon on the show I Do with Chris
bus Saw the Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio. Warren
Moon and all these other former they're watching him, and
his body language tells you all it's like enough, I've

(23:36):
been hit enough. I'm shying away. I don't have the
arm strength. All of these things are adding up. Am
I saying he's the worst quarterback in the league. No,
I'm not saying that, But he's not the same guy
who won the soup, who went won the MVP by default.
Of course, two wins in a lifetime, but he's not
that same guy. I don't disagree with that. We know
Tom Brady's falling off a little bit, but what I

(23:58):
keep saying, go to the numbers. So I started a
gambling podcast called Coming Up Winners and the number one
stats come from Football Outsiders. Right they have this stat DVOA.
It doesn't measure games, it measures plays. It is as
granular as it gets. According to Football Outsiders, right now,
the New England Patriots are the eighth best team in
the league. Oh and guess what their offense is currently

(24:19):
ranked seventh. It's their defense that is awful and dragging
this team down like an anchor. They are currently the
nineteenth rated defense in the league. We know they don't
travel defensively on the road. They got embarrassed by the Lions,
the Titans, the Jaguars, and they gotta go on the road.
But they have to play a road game. They may
have to go to Kansas City. You trust Andy Reid

(24:41):
in the playoffs, don't stop it. I don't know what
he trusts Andy Reid. Andy Reid's wife doesn't trust Andy
Reid on the playoffs. But I don't also trust Tom
Brady on the road. He's an average quarterback in the
past when he was good, and now he's not as good.
So I'm telling you no, do I expect Tom Brady
to go on the road and win a football game.
I don't because he used to be able to cover

(25:01):
up the flaws that were that the that the Patriots have.
I don't believe he's good enough to cover up any
flaws because he has his own flaws. Well, okay, so
you're killing Tom Brady because he's the easy target face
of the franchise, face of the NFL where I'll pull
that set up in a minute, But let me just
say we just talked about playing to your strengths. When

(25:22):
Bill Belichick sees Brady having a terrible game as he was,
he was awful against Buffalo. What does he do? He
plays to the run game. They rushed forty seven times
for two hundred and seventy three. You know what that
game plan was? Anybody but Brady That's that's what that play. Well,
you know obviously, Rob, you gotta you gotta be fair. Um,
Rob Gronkowski throws a pass right to his hands, goes

(25:44):
off his hands that it is intercepted. Gronkowski, by the way,
in this loss, no catches none. That's what isn't that
two weeks in a row. It's a shell. I mean,
first of all, he's killed my fantasy team. I know
you don't care about my fantasy team, but the realities,
he's been bad all year. No, he looks disinterested. Do
you know his the most eye popping number for Gronkowski
this year? Two catches all year in the red zone?

(26:06):
Can you well? This is but this is Bill Belichick
who wanted to one Troyn Gronkowski right. Well, he tried to,
and Gronk said, I'm gonna retire if you said, well
he should have. And you know Detroit, well I would
retire too, would you stop? Detroit's a great town man.
I've spent twenty two years this stops. He's Rob Parker.
I'm Jason mcintar, but I do want to say this
about Gronk and Brady. So if you look at Brady's numbers, okay,

(26:31):
when his passer rating is low and his tds are low,
you have to go all the way back to two
thy thirteen to find out that Brady through twenty five
tds that low of a number. Right, what happened in
twenty thirteen? Rob Gronkowski started the season on IR and
he got hurt towards ACL. He only played seven games

(26:51):
that year. That's when Brady was bad. So there is
a connection when you take away somebody's security blanket as
it Rob Gronkowski has been for a while. Brady, his
numbers just aren't as good and tossing the Edelman stuff. Edelman,
you know he's he's thirty two years old. Now, like
this guy doesn't look like the same person. But I'm
relying on Sony Michelle, a rookie running back and like

(27:12):
James White. But I'm gonna ask you when you watch
Tom Brady and in that Pittsburgh game where he needed
to throw the ball out of bounds, he was in trouble,
you tell me the arm strength is the same. You
tell me that's the same. Tom Brady bad play, No
doubt he couldn't get the ball out of bounds. But
what are you saying you want to dump him? I'm
saying Bill Belichick was right, and I'm just saying that

(27:35):
if I'm if I'm the Patriots, I'm looking for I
don't want Tom Brady for another two years or whatever
his fantasy. So what do you want to your game?
Give me your game plan. I would start looking if
I could just find another quarterback there and be ready
to make the meal. I'm just I don't want all
I'm saying, Hey, you know what, Eli, at least he
beat Tom Brady twice in the Super Bowl. My point

(27:57):
is this, Oh, well, all the time when people, all
the people always saying that he's the goat with but
Eli beat him twice. Here's my point where Brady, he's
not unlike any other great quarterback in this league. All
the great quarterbacks finished their career elsewhere. It's not an indictment.
You want to go through the name where Drew Brees

(28:18):
gonna end his career. I'm just but Drew Brees was
already on four different teams or three different teams coming
in on. My point is this, Uh, you saw Peyton
Manning didn't finish. Payton Manning moved on Payton Manning. But
I'm just saying Peyton Manning, Brett Farb was a legend
in Green Bay. He moved on. They traded him to

(28:39):
the Jets. Uh, you could talk about Joe Montana, who
to me is the goat four know in the Super Bowl,
eleven touchdowns, no picks, three MVPs two of those Super Bowls,
and the where he had to throw a touchdown, not
rely on a field goal and win the Super Bowl.
He had to get a touchdown and he did it.
That guy was sent packing from s Francisco. So if

(29:01):
you could move Joe Montana, who was perfect in the
Super Bowl and was a legend in San Francisco, Tom
Brady can move on to It's no disrespect, it's just
the game. Joe Namith finished his career, he was a darling.
But Joe Namath also finished his career with the Rams.
Johnny United in Baltimore was a legend. Johnny United is

(29:23):
also what well finished his career elsewhere. That's only let
me just quickly go through those three because you're cherry
picking Rob. That's not fair. So Farv was ancient and
threatened retirement. They had a first round pick waiting in
the wings, sitting Aaron Rodgers. Patriots do not have a
first round pick. Next. No, they had a guy there,
Bill Joe. Bill Belichick wanted him to be the star.

(29:44):
Tom Brady convinced the owner Craft not to trade him,
and it was let's go to Joe Montana broke his back.
The Leonard Marshall hit. Guess who was waiting in the
wings all of famers, Steve Young. You can easily move
on when you get Steve Young. But wait a minute.
Didn't he go to Kansas City, didnt get them to
the AFC Championship game? He got him to the house.
He got him to the AFC Championship Young, he's a

(30:05):
Hall of Famer. But my point is he was able
to still play. Okay, you had a gate, they had
an alternative option. Brady has a broken arm. Have you
watched oh my gosh, all right fight? What was the
third one? You said, Uh, Brett Farve. You went, oh,
Joe Montana? And who was the third quarterback that? Uh
did not? Don't say Nameth. We can what uh, Peyton Manny,
Peyton Manny. He had like two next surgeries. They had

(30:26):
the number one do you win a Super Bowl? After
he did? Look at his numbers, Andrew Luck and number
one pick you go look at his numbers. He wasn't finished,
is my point. It was okay for Tom Brady to
go to Jacksonville and finish out there. That's okay. You
have to have a game plan at quarterback. Those three
teams did that. Oh my gosh, sorry, my head just exploded, folks.

(30:50):
Uh okay, Brian Brian Hoyer, gosh, it's early in the morning.

(31:30):
I'm Jason McIntyre, Jason R. McIntyre. We're both having a
lot of fun on Instagram. We're having a lot of
fun with Tom Brady. It's just to folks, it's a
situation where Rob, you can't move on from Brady unless
you've got a game plan. No, but you have to
try to figure out what that game plays. I'll try
to be Brian Hoyer. Obviously you were okay, all right,

(31:52):
So we are coming up next here on the Dan
Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio. We've got a six time
pro bowler coming in to talk about the NFL, Tom Brady,
what's happening in the NFC? All that next here on
the Dan Patrick Show. That can't you excited? Rob lu

(32:24):
years coming up? Baby, I know you got a big
plans now my uh, I'll be a bachelor actually really yeah,
you know, the kids got to see family, and I
gotta work. You know, we gotta grind, st grind. You
know I'm working the whole holiday of course. Yeah, that's
what I do. Money never sleeps. He's Rob Parker. I'm
Jason McIntyre. We are in for Dan Patrick and the

(32:45):
Danettes on the Dan Patrick Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um,
have you ever met Dan? No? I haven't. Yeh yeah, okay,
do you know Dan's Dan's way one hundred percent tall man,
Like when you see him on TV, you don't realize
how tall he is. I think he might be. I'm
six four. I think Dan Patrick six six, so he

(33:07):
might try to post me up. Oh he would post you.
There's no chance. And he's a he's a basketball head too.
I'm a good Oh is he? Yeah? He used to
play like Nancy Lieberman and stuff like I know Nancy
real well, I once played her. But the one on
one game really yeah, she's a Hall of Famer, you
know what I mean. The only thing I will say,
and Nancy knows this is true, is that when we

(33:29):
play one on one, they slipped in the WNBA ball
as the ball, so it felt like a volleyball to me.
Do you know because it's smaller. You're so swollen, your
arms are huge. But it was ridiculous. It was like
I was just jacking bricks up off the back of
you know, because it was too hard. I don't have
any touch. Yeah, it's it just was not good, all right?

(33:50):
Joining the show now Here on The Dan Patrick Show,
Fox Sports Radio Hall of Famer Jason Taylor in the house. Jason,
good morning. What's happened in good morning? Oh? Do we go? Jason? Yes,
good morning. How guys doing doing great? How are you good?
Dar Man? We were just talking me, me and Jason

(34:11):
just had this big debate about Tom Brady and what
do you do with Tom Brady if you're the Patriots.
He's now talking about he wants to play next year
and beyond and have you seen his skills diminished this year?
And if you're the Patriots, what do you do when
you have an aging quarterback? The minutes? No, I mean,

(34:32):
I think he's still playing the same way he has
for the last fifteen years. Unfortunately for a lot of
the AFC used open. You know, it's a tough situation
because you do know that, you know, Garoppolo's gone. You
gotta find someone that's gonna be that the heir apparent,
which I don't know what what quarterback in their right
mind would want that job or what head coach would
want that job. And Belichick lease, but you've got to

(34:54):
start dropping and figuring out your next playing It's you
can't run them out. You know, It's not like he's
playing terribly and and your team's losing them and they
still won the AFU used. They've got guys rotating in
and out of receiver and wrong spending in out of
the lineup, and edn'lman was suspended and running backs hurt.
They got a lot of stuff going on. But yeah,
they keeping the ball games. And it's because the number twelve.

(35:17):
But but let me ask you this, Jason, A lot
of great quarterbacks did not finish their careers with their teams.
Joe Montana won four Super Bowls with the forty nine ers.
Peyton Manning was shown the door, Brett Farve was shown
the door at the end. It's the it's the nature
of the of the business. Uh. It's no disrespect to
Tom Brady. Those are all great quarterbacks who also didn't

(35:39):
get to finish their careers there. Would it be the
end of the world if Tom Brady, uh didn't finish
in New England. No, I mean, it would be business
as usually want in NFL. Unfortunately, you know, and I
think fans are starting to realize that's the way it is.
But you know, I think some of those quarterbacks in
Montana was still playing at the high level. Peyton had
injury issues that he was dealing with, and and Brett

(35:59):
fav kind of all over the board with retiring not retiring.
You know, he was going back and forth a little bit.
You know, Brady's been pretty absolute and what he wants
to do. He's been He's been pretty spot on about
the way he's playing and takes care of himself and
I think he's he's different than a lot of those guys.
So you know, if it does happen that the Patriots
move on, it's it wouldn't totally surprise me. It'd be unfortunate.

(36:22):
It's because of the greatness that Brady was and or
is and what he's done with that organization. But at
the end of the day, it's a business and they
have to look out for their for their entity as well,
and prepare for the future and not kind of not
hold up everything because of a because of a player.
I mean, I hate to say it, I hate to
see it, but just the way it is. Talk when
Jason Taylor, NFL Hall of Famer, Jason, I gotta ask you.

(36:46):
Your Miami Dolphins currently embroiled in a situation with Ryan Tannehill.
The Miami Herald actually reported Sunday that the Dolphins may
be moving on from Tannehill h instead of paying him
what they're owing him the next two seas. Do you
have any thoughts on Ryan tannehill situation in Miami, and
let me let me add they have been the definition

(37:06):
of mediocrity for all of his seven years. Yeah, I
mean it's I was talking to somebody about this yesterday,
and it's you know, when you look at the money
that he's due to make, you look at the production
where the team has gone as a whole um. You know,
the number of games he's missed over the last few years,
and again the business side of it has to kick in,
and we started looking at it. Look, we've been the

(37:28):
middle of the road team, you know, eight and eight,
seven to nine, nine and seven. You know, haven't had
a whole lot of success. I know they had a lot,
they had a lot of injuries. It's like everybody else.
You can't use that as an excuse, But I think
there was enough talent on that team over the last
few years it's maybe do something and it didn't come
to fruition. So it would not surprise me at all
if if they moved off from Tannehill. I there's a

(37:49):
lot of people down here clamoring for it, you know,
but there's it's kind of been that revolving door since
since Marino left back in two thousand, you know, after
the ninety nine season. I played with a bunch of
quarterbacks here in Miami, and uh, it's kind of still
going on. Tenney Hill's been there the longest, I guess
with you know, with the secure starting spot, but again
the injuries and the lack of playoff success. At some

(38:12):
point it's going to come come to roost. Jason, who's
your MVP? I mean, obviously we got one more game
to go. A lot of people looking at Patrick Mahome
and some people think Drew Brees. Some people think Drew
Brees might get it as a lifetime Achievement award because
he's never won, uh the MVP, and and this team
has the best record. Who do you like for MVP?

(38:34):
Or should it be a defensive player? Well, it won't
be an a defensive player. We all we all know that.
We know that, right, given the way that they do
start that one. Yeah, I mean, gee, if it is
a defensive player, I mean Aaron Donald by far, you know,
is is that guy. But you know, as far as
you know the MVP race, you know, you look at
Drew Brees and what he's doing it at this age

(38:56):
and this point, this point of his career has been phenomenal.
I mean, he's a mad season and you know it's
not done yet. They've they've secured a lot of I
guess their playoff situation is all secured. But you know,
he he's still in the mission to guard and win
that Super Bowl, which I think they have a great
chance to do. That defense is playing so well in
Orleans as well, so that's he's benefited from that. Tam
Mahomes has had a had a great year. I mean

(39:17):
hit a couple of speed months here lately, but I
mean the things he's done as a second year player
has been phenomenal. I mean, he's he's ridiculous. Its watching
him play. It's it's fun to watch him play. I
don't have to say him. So it's a lot of hood.
So um, you know, people were talking about it, but
I think it's another guy that's had a great year
and I think kind of gone overlook and that's that's
Philip Rivers. I mean, the things he's done in Santa

(39:40):
I mean's done in San Diego. The level he's playing at,
and you know, it never gets a whole lot of credit.
That organization has been up and down a little bit
and bounced around and playing in a high school stadium
at this point. But he's he's just continued to tip
away at it and had a great year. I thought,
I thought on Phillip Rivers that he was definitely in
the conversation when they went to Pittsburgh Kansas City in

(40:00):
Pittsburgh and one on the road, came back from double digits,
you know, in the second half. But then they lost
at home to Baltimore, and I think that probably knocked
him out. But I'm with you, Philip Rivers had had
was having a great season up until that game. Yeah,
he was. You know, you can't let one game changer
you complete my mindset about about a guy. But Baltimore

(40:21):
lost and it didn't help. But I mean, he's I'll
tell you why he's had a great year. I mean,
you know, you know, the whole team. I think as
a whole he needs to get a lot of credit
for their resilience and the way they hung in there
and all the hype and attention and everything in LA
has been on the rams and everyone forgot about the charge,
but they've quietly had a great season. We're talking with
NFL Hall of Famer and Westwood Won NFL radio analyst

(40:44):
Jason Taylor here on the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Jason, I know we're asking you about a
lot of quarterbacks, but this Carson Wentz situation against Nick
Foles with the Eagles. This is fascinating because foleshers do
about twenty million dollars next year. He's now saved Phillies
Bacon twice in a row. What are your thoughts on

(41:05):
Wentz getting injured every year and Nick Foles somehow getting
hot late in the season back to back seasons. Yeah, well,
you gotta get tip your hat to Nick Foles in
the way he approaches the game. And you know, had
successful in the Super Bowl, had to go back to
being a backup and you know it's but you gotta
give them credit. I mean, you guys always ready to go,
and you know, sometimes backup quarterbacks when they come in,

(41:26):
you know, they get called in the first and second
quarter of a game they played well, but then as
teams get a chance to prepare for them, and you
know they start the next week. You know, they could
kind of exposed. And Foles is not that guy. We're there.
I think he's don't make a lot of money here
in Philadelphia, or you know, somebody makes a trade or
they let him go and he goes to somebody else.
But there's some teams out there, probably one that I'm

(41:50):
I'm sitting in the city of right now that would
love to have Nick Foles. Hey, Jason, we got thirty seconds.
Give me your super Bowl pick. I know we got
a long way to go here in a playoffs or whatever.
What two teams do you like? The Cowboys coming out
of NFC? Who do you like? Give me give me
a pick. I'm sorry, we got thirty seconds. Who do
you got to go into the Super Bowl? Oh? Man?

(42:10):
So early? No, it's early, it's early. Definitely. I like.
I really like New Orleans. I do. I like New Orleans.
Everyone has to go through that, through that super Dome
and it's a very very difficult place to play, you know,
for the NFC and in the AFC. You guys might
think I'm crazy, but I never get I never bet
against Brady stops. It's like watching the same movie as

(42:33):
you watch every year on Christmas time, l for Christmas vacation.
You know the endings. I've seen this movie way too
many times. Yes, smart man, Jason taylorfl Hall of Famer.
I'm gonna tell your sister Joy what you said, because
I don't know what you're talking about. And we love
working with her an FS one. You know it. Thank you,
magg if you guys bringing her in and eking her
part of the family. But if you tell her, I'm

(42:53):
not gonna answer my phone. Jason Taylor, everybody former Miami Dolphins,
great and have a great New Year's talk to you next.
Appreciate it, alright, Ah yeah, Jason Taylor, smart man loves him.
That's some Patriot. That's that lazy, and that's a lazy pick.
I don't like the Patriot. It's a lazy You can't
trust nobody in the AFC. It's not Brady issue. Anybody

(43:17):
but Brady. I keep an eye on the Baltimore Ravens.
That's my sleeper. Just the way they play, keep the
ball well and the defense. Yeah, Patriots defense stinks. Dan
Patrick's show Fox Sports Radio coming up at the start

in the New York. He is Dan Patrick. He's the
greatest post there is. But for all this week there's
a very gid seat. While he spends time with his kids,
got a stand in try to build his massive shoe
block boy. You know what they say, guys, probably as

(45:04):
PAULI would say, no need to come in on that. Dan.
Here's Jason McIntyre and Rob Parker back here on the
Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio, our number two with
the great Rob Parker. I am Jason McIntyre. We're filling
in for Dan Patrick here on a lovely Thursday out

(45:29):
in Los Angeles. Son just starting to come up. We've
been grinding for an hour on the show. It's funny.
We're getting positive feedback Rob already about our energy this
early in the morning, and I'm I'm like, I'm a
morning guy. Rob, I am too. I mean, we get
up early, and when you work out here and we
do undisputed on the shows, you know, the early morning shows.

(45:51):
We're up early every day. And why did you get
at it? I think it goes back to my dad.
He was an early morning guy. He would want to
be out the door beat the traffic in DC when
he was going to work, you know, because yeah, so
he's out the door at six, and I would want to.
I was the guy who woke up and I would
get the newspaper from the driveway, pull out the sports section,

(46:14):
read that first, and I'd always see my dad before
going to work and I'd be like, damn, that guy
grinds every morning. So now every morning my kids wake
up and they see me first thing at the computer,
working on the website, getting a podcast ready, getting radio TV,
all that, and I got to instill in them that
work ethic is what gets you places. There's no doubt
about it. That's the only way. There's no way around it.
There's no silver bullet, right, there's no there's no way

(46:37):
to get around it. I agree. I think that people
might be better than me, but I don't think anybody
can out work exactly. I always say that, like you
can't out work me. I'm gonna be there. I'm gonna
do everything I need to do, turn over every stone,
you know what I mean, do my due diligence to
do my job right. What do you think that stems from?

(46:57):
Rob My parents were immigrants in this country in the
early seventies. I was, you know, born a little bit later,
and they both came here and they knew you gotta work.
There's no ways, there's no handouts here in America. Yeah, no,
you gotta grind. It's the same thing I mean, my
parents were hard workers, worked hard for everything that we had.
Um and I just watched that, you know what I mean.

(47:19):
It was just no excuses. You just had to do
what you had to do. So here we are and
then for Dan Patrick during the holidays. And I don't
want to make it too hard of a segue, but
I feel like the bowl system is kind of opposite
of that in college football. Oh here we go? That really?
I mean, did you read the story in the Washington
Post the guy who runs the Outback Bowl right, some

(47:40):
second tier garbage bowl game which I call an exhibition
because it ain't one of the playoff games. So he's
not getting a life supply of blooming onions. Dude, he's
getting a million dollars watch to operate the Outback Bowl.
It is laughable. That makes a million bucks to run
a second tier bowl game. And what irks me is
these college football players make nothing, but they're starting to
get some art rob they're starting to see the light.

(48:02):
And all of a sudden, college football players, by the
I don't know if it's dozens yet, but it's close,
they're starting to skip these bowl games. Why would you
go play in a bowl game where there's nothing for
you other than to potentially get hurt, kill your stock.
Drop down cost you millions of dollars. And I don't

(48:24):
blame them. I would not play in some now unless
it's like a for the national championship. Other than that,
these are all meaningless exhibition games. Look at the empty
seats all over college football America. Nobody goes to these things.
People are watching, you know what they are Jason TV shows.
They take the money from the networks. I get it,

(48:46):
but people don't go. I would agree there's zero incentive.
They call these kids, oh, hey, you come to our
bowl game in Shreveport, Louisiana. We're gonna make you the
toast of a town. We are gonna do a parade
for you and throw five dollars, which is the maximum
allowed according to the fraudulent NCAA. And these players are
starting to be like, nah, I'm good. You know I'm

(49:06):
gonna be making hopefully big money in the NFL. And now, Rob,
here's a scary thing. For bowl games, these irrelevant exhibitions.
The players who are not even first round picks are
being like, yeah, I don't want to risk injury, dude.
I'm looking at the list, Rob, a bunch of guys
sitting out. There's two dudes on NC State and I
follow college football, I follow the draft. Two guys on

(49:27):
NC State. They're not a first day maybe not even
a second day pick, and they're skipping right they're bowl game.
So the message is clear the players, they don't care
about it. What what do you get? You get a
swag bag, a sweatsuit and a swag bag with some
stuff in it, maybe coupons to rallies or something. December
twenty seventh and there has not been one Bowl game

(49:49):
that I've watched more than like two or three plays off.
That's how bad these games are. And I'm betting on them, Rob.
You know, I got this gambling podcast coming up Winners.
We're betting on Bowl games every week. I don't watch
any of the game. The other day, irrelevant, I was
trying to figure out should I watched the bowl game
or a rerun of a Hazel. I was trying to
figure it out. What the hell is Hazel's like old
TV show from the fifties or something fifties. I just

(50:11):
threw it out there. Somebody laughed, who was driving? They
know Hazel? Yeah? Something? One person heard Hazel, But like, listen,
Michigan is in a New Year's I don't know if
they're New Year's Day, but they're playing Florida. Michigan Florida.
You think that's a good game, dude? Three Michigan players
have been like now and they're running back. Who's not
even a major problem. What are they playing? Is this
the third you're going to row or something. Michigan's playing Florida.

(50:33):
So I got no idea how pay close attention to
it now? Michigan lost. I had money on them last
against South Carolina and it was brutal. They were winning,
clearly dominated, playing that Outback Bowl a number of times
they have Yeah, and listen, if you're the Outback Bowl,
you know Michigan travels well. They got fans everywhere. Chris Boussara,
Michigan guy, his daughters goes daughters, right, So like there's
a lot of fans of these teams, and you know

(50:55):
they want a little break, so they'll go to the games.
But I'm telling you college football is killing itself right now. Rob.
They've got to go to a sixteen or an eighteen playoff.
I've advocate of eight, but these games just don't mean anything.
Rob it's over it's overkilled. Though. It's like everything's gone
out of out of hand. At one point there were
bowl games that meant something that you look forward to watching.

(51:18):
It was on New Year's Day, it wasn't ten days
before Christmas. It's just outrageous, the greed of television blag
wanting to put something on, so you make up phony
bowls that don't matter. And I'm telling you, I always
look at stuff based on attendance. To me, attendance is
very important, even though you know to put stuff on.

(51:41):
Tell them and they don't care whether people show up
or not because they're getting that fat check from the network.
But look at the empty seats totally. Doesn't that tell
you something? I don't even know. I just it's a
shame where we are in the oversaturation. You know what
it's like. It's like the guy who loves ice cream.
You love ice cream, then you take a job at

(52:01):
the ice cream fact and you know what, you start passing, No,
I'll take ice I'll get ice cream tomorrow. You know,
it's just you. You lose your your love for it.
So we had people over at our house on Christmas Day.
We went to a Christmas party a couple of days before.
Nobody everybody knows I'm into sports, I'm on TV radio,
blah blah blah. Not one person talked about a bowl game.
Everybody's talking NFL this weekend. They care about that. Nobody's dude,

(52:26):
I did, rob. This is crazy. I didn't even know
that the playoff games were this Saturday, because I thought
they usually had them on Christmas Eve or New Year's
Eve or New Year's Day. They're this Saturday. Like, nobody's
talking about Alabama Oklahoma. Both games, double digit spreads, nearly
two touchdowns. Like, at what point does college football say, Man,

(52:47):
we've had no juice here for a couple of weeks. Uh,
nobody's talking about our games. We gotta make a move.
I think eight is the answer. And then you got
I'm against eight. I think because sixteen. No, I'll just
leave it to where it is because you'll never you'll
never satisfied. There's always going to be somebody on the
outside who feels that they should be in. So that
doesn't solve that. And then you're gonna have teams that

(53:09):
lost two games getting in, and and you know what
I mean, New York Giants. You love to praise Eli Manning.
He was a wildcard team and won a Super Bowl.
They got hot, they were the best team in the league. Yeah,
but I still matters college football. You do. The last
thing you want to do is make the regular season
and college football irrelevant. But they said that don't happen.
You don't want to do that four team playoff and
it didn't happen. No, but I'm telling if you go

(53:30):
to eight, you're gonna make those games not not as important.
And once you do that to you even give people
a reason to stay away. Look at what's happened to
college basketball. College basketball is irrelevant until the tournament. Haven't changed.
It's just it's just about the tournament now people don't
even pay attention. Life is too short to watch regular

(53:50):
season college That's where we are nobody watching. I mean now,
I'm at a stage in my life where we got
the two kids. They're young. I can't watch every college
football game on Saturday's rob I I can't. I gotta
give some time to the family. A weekend Sunday, my
wife gets it NFL. You know, I do a TV
show in the morning for NFL. I get home and
I'm watching game seven straight hours. My wife is cool

(54:10):
with that. She understands I can't pull that stuff on
Saturday too. I can't watch in Oklahoma State uh Texas
game on a Saturday. I just can't. Cowherd. Colin Cowherd,
you know we both know him well. He told me
one of the great things about sports is really only
watch games that you're gonna end up talking about. Like

(54:30):
I mean, I love college basketball. I played in a
college basketball fantasy league where you kept your players. Dude,
I'm not watching Michigan Penn State on a Tuesday in January,
and I like col people used to watch and what
I'm just trying to say, few options there? You go, well, well,
also every game wasn't on, do you do? You know

(54:52):
what I mean? So when when there was a chance
to watch Michigan or or Michigan State or some something
like that, you would watch it. Great point, But every
game is on, so you make me desensitized to it
where I don't feel compelled to have to watch it.
And that's where we are. The more that they show us,
the less we love it. It's a great point, Rob,

(55:12):
And you know, I don't want to bring politics into it.
But the guy who does a show before us, Clay Travis.
You know, he does a lot of the politics. Somebody
told me, when everything is a federal case every day,
massive huge story, we gotta blah blah blah, whatever's going on.
Nothing is a story. Rob desensitized to that. I've tuned
out polity, that's what. But that's what happened, and that's
what's happening in sports. That's a great point. We never

(55:33):
used to We used to cover it. And I don't
want to sound like the old guy. Hey, you kids,
get off my lord. I don't want to sound like
that guy. But Monday night football was a big deal
because that was the only place I could see games
that weren't in my market. I grew up in New York,
you know what I mean. So those are the only
place I could see other teams. Right, So the NFL
just dealt with this for several years with Thursday night football. Right,

(55:56):
it didn't matter. You're getting bad teams. So what did
the league do? Well, box got the Thursday package. Have
you looked at the Thursday games this year? They were musty?
I mean they all four or five games that were
off the chart. Well, but They also downgraded the Monday
Night package because yes, because they ESPN I think has
given it up right after this year. That's the show
that they care more about soccer and other sport. But

(56:18):
that's what they did. They took the Great Games and
Fox got them on Thursday. Well, because we don't know,
we don't want to go too deep down this road.
But ESPN decided that they care about the NBA more.
They would all in on Lebron and NBA and they
were marginalizing the NFL, and the NFL said, fine, you're
gonna get uh, you know, Tennessee Jacksonville. Oh, I'm Monday
Night football. And I don't know about you, but I

(56:40):
played basketball Mondays pick up basketball, and I would get
home at halftime. I would DVR every game and I'd
look at the score and be like, do I want
to watch this and like ninety percent of the time
not rewinding, No, no, wow, I didn't miss anything. So
I would watch like the fourth quarter when it matters.
But you know, college football, they need to wake up here.
This is a problem. Rob. I think they've got to

(57:00):
go to eight teams. You gotta go from uh, you know,
middle of December. You get the quarterfinals, then you go
next week to the semifinals and then the finals a
New Year's Day. And then they had the nerve which
which game yesterday was canceled? And oh the lightning strikes
right the First Responders Bowl, And they had the nerve

(57:21):
to say they wouldn't give refunds fan to the fans.
But but I think it wasn't Boston College, rob Get College,
ro Boise, Boston College said anybody who bought tickets to
us is going to get a refund, but the event,
but the event said that they wouldn't give creed refunds.
How do you do that when you cancel the game?

(57:42):
Now I get it. It's it's uh, you know, nature
and lightning strikes and for the safety. So I'm not
arguing there, but you should give people their money back.
And I'll tell you how how you how you can
turn around whether you want people to go to these
games as they should. Uh, they should adopt a pay
as you exit strategy to get people. So if I
like the game, I'll pay on my way out, but

(58:05):
I'm not gonna pay ahead of time. Now that nobody's
going rob I will say a lot of these college
football fans. Some of them are planning their holiday around
this irrelevant bullgame, right, so they're spending thousands of dollars
to travel to a town, go to dinner, watch the game.
And imagine you do that for your holiday and the
game gets canceled and you don't get a refund. What
a joke? College football, You better get your act together.

(58:28):
Coming up next here on the Dan Patrick Show on
Fox Sports Radio, he is Rob Parker. I am Jason McIntyre,
and folks, we couldn't disagree more on this next topic.
Here's the question, would you pay twenty million for a
backup quarterback in the NFL? I would because one team

(58:50):
is going through that. I'll tell you who it is
and why. Next hot in here. Hey, well, Nelly, that
sounds like it could be a chow called the hot seat.

(59:10):
What do you think? I like? That be the opening
music for it? I like it? Oh? Look what is
this news right here? Three Alabama players suspended for the
Orange Bowl? Interesting? Nobody good? Back here on the Dan
Patrick Show. He's Rob Parker. I am Jason McIntyre. We

(59:31):
are coming to you live from Los Angeles. Slow morning
here in Los Angeles. News wise, but on the other
side of the country, Rob Parker, there is a quarterback
situation brewing. There's no situation. Oh there, death was a
thousand percent a situation. Are you kidding me? The defending

(59:52):
Super Bowl champions, they got a problem on their hands, Rob.
Carson Wentz the incumbent. You mean Wentz in a lifetime.
I mean that's what went in a lifetime. That dude,
Wentz in a lifetime. He'll stay healthy for a far whatever.
I mean. The guy can't stay healthy, Rob, He's a
fumble machine. Carson Wentz is hurt again. I guess this

(01:00:14):
time it's his back. He is out, they believe for
the rest of the season. Nick Foles steps in. All
he does is you know what he did last year?
George for four hundred yards, beats the Texas, before that,
beat the Rams. He's beaten two playoff teams. Did you
watch the beginning of the season when he started it,
when he was the starter for the Eagles. Do you
remember those games? Rob? This is like if you want

(01:00:34):
to play that car. This is like when we roll
into a bar and you're good at the beginning of
the bar, your game is good, but when at the
end of the night, it's time to close. You need
to get some numbers, You need to take some ladies
out of there. I'm the closer. That's what Nick Foles is.
He's a closer. Then Nick Foles is do about twenty
million dollars next year. And the Eagles were thinking, oh,

(01:00:54):
we're gonna have to move on. That would be awful, awful.
They absolutely lutely have to keep Nick Foles. Nick. They
cannot let him go. And you're gonna disagree with me.
Nick Foles is nothing more than Ryan Fitzpatrick. That's what
he is. When you give this guyana has a super
Bowl ring, let's stop. Hold on, no, no, Fitzpatrick got

(01:01:16):
a playoff win. Hold on, no here, just want a
super Bowl? Guy got it. But when you give the
guy Nick Foles the keys and say, hey, here's your car.
This's just your car, he crashes it. When you say
to him, can you run to the store and get
me some butter and milk? He's fine just driving your
car for a couple of you know, for some marins

(01:01:38):
and whatnot. He when when you turn over the keys
to him permanently. Hell, that's why. Because if he was
that guy who won the super Bowl last year, he
would be a starter in the NFL. He would have
been a starter for years. He's been a starter. What
are we calling the Super Bowl run? It was awesome. No,
I'm not Sayingana's a genius. He was awesome. Syrds of

(01:02:00):
offense and the Super Bowl and Belichick it was awesome.
But he's not a starting quarterback he's wanted to go. Okay,
I'm just trying to say those guys that that's all all.
I'm saying. Twenty million dollars. I'm not telling you no way,
no how a twenty million dollars. You just Carson Wentz
is my is my future. I'm gonna say to you
that eventually we've seen him when he's healthy and how

(01:02:22):
good he's played. He was the MVP tom Brady wanted
by default. Even the year that Tom Brady last year
when he won the Super Bowl, Carson Wentz had more
touchdowns and less interceptions than Tom Brady in less game,
there's no doubt less games. And they didn't give it
to him because he didn't play all sixteen, but he
had better numbers than Tom Brady. All I'm telling you

(01:02:45):
is he's the future. Okay, So just as a reminder,
Carson wentzys This is his third year in the league.
He's been hurt every year, suffered an injury every year.
Another this rookie year, he didn't miss time. He got
busted up in the preseason early. I'll tell you what
the problem is, Rob, This is the Carson Wentz issue
that you've got to deal with. Very talented quarterback, but

(01:03:07):
he adds libs too much. He's always trying to make
something happen, which is the reason why he's consistently among
the lead leaders and fumbles. The opposite is true of
Nick Foles. He is a robot back there. Nick. We
want you to do the read option, the RPO. We
want you to do your checkdowns. We don't want you
run in and scrambling, make the throws, throw it away

(01:03:28):
if you have to. Wentz holds the ball too long, fumbles.
Was Nick Foles ever a starting quarterback? It's not. Again,
I'm asking you. Was he ever? I don't think Nick
Foles is a build your franchise around. Okay, that's that's
my boy. If you lose him, if you're the Eagles,
you can just forget about the playoffs issue. No, you
can get it because Carson Wentz is eventually going to
lead them back to the Eventually he's gonna stop getting

(01:03:49):
hurt and stop fumbles. Absolutely, it can happen with cars.
They were gonna miss the playoffs this year. That's okay,
it happens. God's get hurt. It happened. It get hurt
last year, and this year that happens. I think, looky
and going back to asking you when he's health do
you go look at his numbers and tell me eat
something special? Something special? But it's both things can be true.

(01:04:11):
Carson Wentz is talented and he's something special. But for me,
I need to keep nick Foles around given the way.
Not at twenty million dollars. You're not keeping them. You're not.
I'm just just let's be honest. That's not what you
do in the NFL. You don't even know twenty million dollars.
Back up with a young guy and Carson Wentz, yes,
has he been injured the last couple of years. I
get all that, But at some point you gotta say

(01:04:32):
he's our guy and we and you know what, Uh,
When Aaron Rodgers got hurt and broke his column brown
two different years, they didn't have no twenty million dollars,
guys sitting back there, and what happened. They didn't make
the plays. Oh, I get it, and the playoffs, but
that happened twenty million guy, and they won a super Bowl.
And I am pounding the table for Nick Foles and

(01:04:52):
they won the super Bowl because Tom Brady costs. Earlier
in the show, you're like, oh, Eli Manning, he stinks,
but he did beat Tom Brady twice. Nick Foles wins
to Super Bowl. You give him no credit. I'm not.
I'm not saying I'm not giving him any credit. All
I'm saying is if you ask me, and I'm the
Eagles and I'm looking at my future. Carson Wentz is
my future, not Nick Foles. And that that takes anything.

(01:05:14):
That doesn't take anything away from what Nick Foles did
last year. You saw that pass that he caught and
Tom Brady couldn't make that play. Hell. Yes, Here here's
the week seventeen schedule. Philadelphia Eagles travel to Washington. They
play a bad Redskins team, beat up Redskins team. They

(01:05:37):
need to win that and they need the Bears to
beat the Vikings. The Bears are play where the Bears
at home. Now the Bears are on the road, Bears
are in the playoffs. I don't think there's a lot
of incentive for them to win. So the Eagles probably
don't make the playoffs, and then they've got the twenty
million dollar decision. I always I always wonder about that,

(01:05:57):
and I get it you're going to the playoffs, but
I just I think the way you go into you know, like,
you gotta be careful. You still don't want to just
like roll over and last year, yeah, and then what
happened now against Atlanta and they lost, So what's your move?
I just lay everybody. I understand it, because you don't

(01:06:18):
want people to get hurt. But I don't want to
just just rolling throwing the towel. I just think it's
a bad look. And you've seen it where guys, I'm
telling you the year that the Green Bay Packers were
fifteen and one, do you remember that year they did
the same exact thing. They gave Aaron Rodgers basically what
was three weeks off, like well that was a problem
they had by remember that they had the week and

(01:06:38):
then the week. No I'm saying, but they they basically
gave Aaron Rodgers and he came out, he was rusty,
he didn't look like the guy. So I'm not always
one for just saying, oh well, don't rest and don't
play and then just jump in there and everything's supposed
to be cool. So this Eagle situation with Folds and Wentz,
he's Rob Parker. I'm Jason mcintar. This is the Dan
Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio. But Rob, this is

(01:06:59):
what's interesting. The Bears can kind of decide who they
want to play. If they just tank it and lose
to the Vikings, they will then face the Vikings next week.
But if they want to beat the Vikings to face
Nick Foles, they'll keep all their guys in now. Personally,
you could argue that the guys who matter most to
the Bears are on defense, right, Like, if you want

(01:07:20):
to lose this game, you sit Khalil Mack right, you
sit the linebacker from George John's facing on his name.
He's awesome, but you will wrest those guys so you
can face Nick Foles. I don't think you want to
face Nick Foles right now. This guy, what he did
in that Super Bowl scares me. If I'm the Bears,
I don't want to say no, no, no, he played
as well as you can play. He outplayed Tom Brady,

(01:07:41):
and Tom Brady threw for five hundred yards in that game.
And Nick Foles, if you remember, Jason made every single
throw that needed to be made. He was incredible. He
was incredible in that Super Bowl. There's no doubt about it.
And that's one of those moments. But I'm telling you,
if you think there's gonna be a repeat performance, your
kid yourself. So you're just to recap Nick foles is contract.

(01:08:04):
He's due twenty million next year. You're the Eagles. You
tell the guy who won the Super Bowl for you,
who got you back in the playoffs, got you back
in the playoff mix. This year, you're gonna tell him, Nick,
we can't afford you. We've got to bolster the secondary,
the linebackers. We gotta pay this guy that guy. And
you're telling me you move on from you. You know what,
It just kills me because if you go out, if

(01:08:24):
they went out and Nick Foles laid an egg on Sunday,
you wouldn't even be you wouldn't even be like even
entertaining that, Like you would be like, well, all you
want the guy to do? Or you know when you
can make some sort of excuse. My only point is
if what he did last year was tremendous, you can't
live in the past when you talk about a team

(01:08:45):
moving forward, you can't. That's what the Giants did with Eli.
That's why they missed on a franchise quarterback. That's why
they're desperate now to get somebody. They're looking and there's
nobody available. Every team in the NFL you notice you
need a quarterback. My point is you just can't do it.
You can't live about what happened last year. It moving forward.

(01:09:06):
If ifs and butts were candies and no got we'd
all have a merry Christmas. Rob you say you can't
live in the past. I'm not gonna name the show,
but we've got TV's on in the studio. They're opening
segment on a show on our rival network, opened with
did the Patriots regret letting? Uh trading Jimmy Garoppolo. They're
living in the past, but only because they now see

(01:09:31):
Tom Brady and understand what Bill Belichick was trying to do,
and that was it. And now Bob Kraft, he stuck
his chest out. He picked Tom Brady. But I bet
you privately, he's looking at Tom Brady, especially the last
few weeks, saying, you know what, we're we're We're over,
We're over a barrel. Now we got this guy who's
forty one, gonna be forty two at the start of

(01:09:52):
you at the start of next year, and he can't
even throw a ball out of bounds when you're killing.
Don't we have to play, Rob Parker? I want I
want you to hear the play by playoff. Then he
wants to get rid of Tom Brady. He thinks Lebron
better win a title in the next year or two,

(01:10:14):
or it's over, and he wants to just say goodbye,
Nick Foles, you want a Super Bowl, thanks for your service.
You just want to get rid of everybody. Just dump him,
kick him to the curb, move on for the next
best thing, Rob Parkers. That's a dangerous way to live. No, ny,
I'm just I'm just a real guy, and I'm just
saying to myself. You just said you're a realist, right,

(01:10:34):
you live in reality, dude. You just gotta look at it. Stop.
You can't be holding on the people. We can't do
all that, do you know what I mean? You gotta
you gotta say to your Rob, you're now owing three
in debates on this show? Are you kidding? Here? On
the Dan Patrick Show Fox Sports Radio. He's Rob Parker.
He's taking a couple of els today. Are this next
topic we're gonna do? You haven't been on social media?

(01:10:56):
That's saying, Rob, take it easy. I have Hays mcinto
what are you doing it media? Again the Dan Patrick's Show.
Filling in for Dan and the Dan Ats, I'm Jason McIntyre.
He's Rob Parker, and you know our next topic and listen,
this is uh, this is an interesting one. I almost
want to let Rob go first so he could get
it off his chest, because I've seen you bashing this

(01:11:17):
gentleman on social media, on the radio, on TV, and
I've gone after him plenty. His name is Baker Mayfield,
you guys are. In addition to the gambling podcast this
Fox Sports Radio, I got a show on Saturdays, I
do FS one. I also run a website, the Big
Lead dot com, and we monitor traffic Rob for who

(01:11:40):
is hitting. And I'm telling you right now, one thousand
percent the player in the NFL driving the most traffic
is Baker Mayfield. That's nice? Is he going to be
in the playoffs next week. Okay, all right, Rob go
I didn't even tee up the full question setting it up.
I remember when the NBA was pushing shock and he

(01:12:00):
was home every year in the playoffs when he first
came into the league. All I'm saying to you is,
wake me up when Baker Mayfield makes the playoffs and
he's a threat to win a Super Bowl, wake me
up rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield. I'm not saying he can't play.
I give you all that. All I'm saying to you
is my problem, and my issue is that he's a brat.

(01:12:22):
He shows humility and stay off of a man and
Hugh Jackson who was fired. I just think it's the
lowest thing you could do, which is to make fun
and attack a man who was fired and lost his livelihood.
Just move on with your life, just play football. You
don't need to attack Hugh Jackson. I don't get that.

(01:12:43):
I do not understand it. I think it's bad karma.
Don't tell a man who'd been fired and has a
family to feed where they should work and what they
should do. That's all I'm saying. You're you're if you
want to get back at somebody beat him. He beat
the Bengal swaves. That should be enough. Okay, that should
be enough to do totally. Come on now, well, I

(01:13:06):
do agree with you on the bad karma. It's bad
karma to rip somebody when they're down. You know, we've
seen people in our industry here in the TV industry
who talk a lot of smack, want to run their mouth,
think they're the best, and then they get whatever they
get and they're not any good. I think karma does
come around in life, in sports media, whatever topic you want.

(01:13:30):
But I'm gonna say this, Hugh Jackson got fired because
he was a terrible head coach. But that's fine, that's fine.
So he could have easily gotten, like most head coaches do,
a TV job start our Arrival Network for a couple
of months past the time he went out and got
the one job, the one team that was gonna play
the Browns twice. No, but that's not true. You know

(01:13:51):
why did he go there? Why did he go there? Yeah?
He had a his date, he had a history there,
he worked there before Mike on the owner and also
Marvin Lewis is this guy, So you know, why go there?
Why Was it for the paycheck? No, yes, by the Brown?
So why go there, Rob, Because if you don't think
it was, he went there for any other reason, like

(01:14:12):
because to stick it to Cleveland. The Brown's entire locker
room feels that. Do you do you remember what happened?
Do you remember what happened before he got there? Their
defensive coordinator was fired because they gave up five hundred
plus yards three games in a row for the first
time in the history of the NFL. What are you
talking about? The Bengals were terrible. It has nothing to
do with that open the season like three and one.

(01:14:34):
I'm telling you when they when he got hired, it
was because their defensive coordinator had just gotten fired. Yeah,
but because the was terrible offensive guy Like No, his
argument is, oh, I needed a paycheck, like I need
to put food on the table to stop. But you
don't You don't know what the guys. You don't know
his bank account, You don't know anything about that. For
you to say that it doesn't matter. In the league, Jason,

(01:14:55):
there's rich people and doctors and lawyers, people make a
lot of money who you don't know what their finances are.
And for him, he's a football coach. You know, some
guys don't want to be out. Some guys don't want
to be on the sideline. You know what, he might
go to Cincinnati and Marvin Lewis might go upstairs and
Mike Brown might hire Hugh Jackson. Don't tell me that

(01:15:15):
that's not an option where he looked at it and said,
maybe this is a chance for him. The Browns are
paying Hugh Jackson four point seven five don't tell a
man about his money. The two things you should two
point set. So he went to the Bengals for a
pro rated portion of two hundred and fifty k Are
you kidding me? Four point seven five million? And he's like, oh,

(01:15:37):
give me two fifty ks. He's a football coach. That's
by the way, Number one. Hugh Jackson stinks as a
head coach. It's awful that one of the worst head
coaches by any metrical NFL history. That's fine. Did not
have to take that job. No, no, no, what he
did not have to take that job. What Baker Mayfield
shouldn't do is attack a man when he's down. If

(01:15:58):
you got an issue, I would have more resp back
for Baker Mayfield to tell him to his face and
don't do it publicly, to do a stare down and
all this other stuff. That's all childish and he's a
big brad. But and I'm telling you it's the reason
a lot of people will not like Baker Mayfield or
even root for him as he goes forward. I'm telling

(01:16:19):
you because because it has nothing to do with football.
It's the way you treat people. Dude. I'm telling you,
I don't tick a guy when he's down. That's very
nineteen fifties of you and whatever. Society a current society
where it's very tribal. You're either with me or you're
against me. And you know that goes from the commander

(01:16:40):
in chief all the way down. That's what's happening in
this country now. And you're seeing people side with Baker Mayfield.
I'm telling you on our website, we're seeing traffic on
the big lead Monster traffic here. It is defending defending
Baker Mayfield because we are in a society where I'm
on his side. I like that. Dude. He don't give
two f's about anything about anybody. And I'm coming after you,

(01:17:02):
Hugh Jackson. You don't want to play me, You want
to play Tyrod Taylor. We're gonna it's gonna take Tyrod
Taylor to get hurt for me to come in, and
so twenty four touchdown passes. I'm gonna say this about
Baker Mayfield, Robin, then you can have the floor. I
was way wrong about his skill level in the NFL.
We could talk about the off field stuff separately. Baker's
killed it as a quarterback in this league with not

(01:17:23):
great options with an offensive coordinator in Kitchens, Rob know about.
I'm just telling you he has been impressive. I was wrong.
I thought Baker was gonna be not a good rookie quarterback,
umpensating you. No, the off field stuff is different. Let's
see how he handles. No, it's not different. He to
easily step in it. Get her right, we know it's his.

(01:17:44):
And this is what this is what you know like people,
This is what I don't like. Oh, that's just Baker
being Baker. No, that's Baker being a jerk. That's Baker
taking banging on and on on a defenseless fire man
who's down and out. And I'm just saying when he
was fired, Dude, you could have a disagreement with people.

(01:18:06):
It's the way you handle it. At some point you
should have him be accountable and understand that it's not cool.
This is not a college game. These are grown men.
Treat people with respect. That's all I'm saying. He could
dislike Hugh Jackson all he wants. He could have a
one on one conversation when people say, well, what did
you say to Hugh Jackson? That's between me and Hugh Jackson.

(01:18:28):
And I could respect that even if he chewed him out.
But then like weeks, this has been weeks now what
a month and a half, He's still after it. Let
it go, man, move forward, Dowman, trash talker, you are
you a Richard Sherman fan for years? I mean, he
totally the stuff he said to Crabtree in that one

(01:18:50):
NFC Championship Graymer, He's a sorry receiver and all that
Michael Jordan legendary trash that's during the action every game.
I'm talking about a man who was fired. One way
to just understand what I'm talking to, game, I thought
you were upset that he drove by Hugh Jackson on
the field and was like, ah, and the childish Michael
Michael Jordan did that. You know, it's it's child bird

(01:19:12):
talk trash to a fired coach. Come on, man, nobody's
ever done that. Give me another example. There's none. Nobody's
ever chastised someone who lost their job. Stop it. Baker
Mayfield's the only guy who remember doing that publicly. It's horrible.
I personally, I wish the police would have had papers

(01:19:32):
pepper spray when they tackled him. He needed he needs
to he needs to be pepper spray now, Producer, Rob,
I can't believe I'm in a spot where I've got
to defend Baker Mayfield. I mean again, do you know
people still come after me from my Baker Mayfield cell phone?
Take every other day I'm getting open is Baker on

(01:19:54):
his phone? Like there's nonsense from people? By the way,
I stand by that take a thousand percent at any rate, Rob,
we gotta take a break. I don't know. I just
feel like we need to bring back the Baker Mayfield topic.
But we got another quarterback situation developing as we speak.
The Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert has decided he's going to

(01:20:16):
pass on the NFL. New York Giants fans jumping off
buildings in Gotham. They're devastated, But you know who's benefiting
from this? Kyler Murray really interesting situation. The Oklahoma quarterback.
He faces Alabama Saturday. He said he was gonna play baseball,
but I believe the NFL and his future. We'll talk

(01:20:39):
about that next. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Odd Couple with Chris Brussar and Rob Parker weekdays
at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific. Back here on

(01:21:00):
The Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Jason McIntyre.
He is Rob Parker. We are filling in for Dan
and the Dan Ats. You can follow Rob on Twitter
at Rob Parker FS one. You can follow me at
Jason R. McIntyre. UM. Haven't heard any negative comments really

(01:21:20):
on social media about the show. About the show, Yeah,
as I told you earlier, I'm doing less. Twitter is
better for your brain, you know, Instagram is. I'm preferable
to Instagram, but that's neither here nor there. I'm on both.
I look at both of you. What's going on? You
have an unofficial scorecard of the show. Our producer just

(01:21:41):
came in. It was like, boy, McIntyre, you gotta lay up,
lay up on Rob Parker. Just stop dominated We have
a scorecard here in the studio. Apparently Rob g is
a Russian judge? Is that what we got going on here?
Because I don't know about No. Four all You kid
can't believe I was defending Falls and Baker Mayfield. But

(01:22:03):
it's just what I see and what the numbers say. Hey,
by the way, can I give one more Baker Mayfield
stat before we move on? Are you ready for this?
Baker Mayfield in the red zone this year nineteen TVs.
Zero picks, sixty eight percent completions. That second on leader
Drew Brees. Hugh Jackson wanted no part who against? Can
you give me the teams just in the red zone? No, no,

(01:22:25):
it doesn't break down, but I would love to see
and it does matter who you beat. I've always said that. Okay,
remember that it's who you're doing it in Falls beat
Bill Belichick. But it don't mean Jack squat. You don't
want Nick Foles, Rob Parker. I mean, come on, all right,
let's move on. Big NFL decision. I love the draft.

(01:22:47):
Do you like the draft? Uh? Yeah? And so as
soon as Week seventeen ends, you know it's Black Monday
where they fire all the coaches, I will always have
an NFL mock draft ready because the draft orders then
out on the big lead. I'll do a mock draft.
It's so fun, and I'm telling you right now Kyler
Murray is making his way into the first round of

(01:23:07):
the draft. Justin Herbert, who was gonna be the number
one quarterback off the board. I know Oregon has kind
of struggled this season at the end, but early in
the year he looked terrific. I mean, if you go
and watch that game against Stanford, he was outstanding. He
was tremendous against Washington in a win. But he's gonna
return to Oregon. Very curious decision, you know why. Next

(01:23:30):
year's draft has a kid from Georgia, Jake from who's
pretty good, but more importantly has Tua Taga Vloa. He
is awesome. I think he's an NFL player. By the way,
he's a lefty and there isn't one starting left handed
quarterback in the league right now. I do not believe.
So we're setting up a situation where Herbert is saying,

(01:23:52):
I'll go out next year. Now he has a four
point er grade point average. Really intelligent guy. Maybe he's
not long for football. Maybe he'd rather just go into
business to be a doctor. Whatever. But I think that
decision helps. Kyler Murray, the Oklahoma quarterback. Now he's about
five nine, five ten. He's smaller than me. I'm about
five five ten and a half five eleven? Are you?

(01:24:13):
And I could post up? I always said five eight
or nine? Are you not? I'm got a physical last month,
so another way of healthy bill? Everything good? Yes, thank god?
Yeah you had a physical as well. Yes, that's important. Good. Yeah,
you got a big got a big birthday coming up,
so yeah, as do I Rob? Maybe a cowhords birthdays
like two days before mine. Yeah, we're we're all Capricorn,

(01:24:34):
Capricorn hard working people. Um, best friend's worst enemy. That's
really what Capricorns are. Have you treat us right? We're
we'll stick by you. I like that. That is good stuff,
Rob Parker. Um. So Kyler Murray, Oklahoma quarterback. He faces Alabama.
He's about five nine. He's got a huge baseball contract,

(01:24:55):
first round pick of the Oakland Days. If you're Kyler Murra,
this is perfect for you because you're a big baseball guy.
Do you take that baseball money and run or do
you get football? Shot? I just think most people don't
have an option. Major League baseball is very hard to
play and to be able to make it, but look

(01:25:16):
at it long term, your health. I could talk about
one of the greatest football players ever right in Bo
Jackson was a great football player, only player who was
a pro bowler and made deal and was a baseball
All Star. Nobody else has ever done that. Nodon never

(01:25:36):
made a baseball All start. Interesting, okay, and what happened.
He wound up getting hurt in football and his career
was basically over after that. All I'm saying is, if
you can play both, you could have a longer career.
In baseball, you can make more money, and your health
is not an issue. He's an undersized quarterback. I know

(01:25:57):
he had he won the highsman he did had an
unbelievable season. But if you can play baseball, I would
play baseball only from the standpoint of health, long term,
money and and and I think you have a better
chance of surviving the sport wearing football. There's a chance

(01:26:17):
you could get hurt on every on every play. That
makes complete sense, and I agree with it, do you,
But I will say this, I'm shocked Murry is what
twenty one young kid at twenty one years old, you
want fame more than necessarily? Am I gonna be healthy
twenty years from now? Think about when you were twenty one,
you go into the NFL, you are a star, you

(01:26:39):
go into baseball, he's gonna be riding busses around on
the miners. Okay, you know it's okay, But not for
twenty one year old. When you know all those great
players who've made it through baseball, they all did the same, agreed,
But he didn't have a chance to play in the NFL.
It's a different mind. What's gonna help your Instagram following
more being an NFL team or riding buses in the miners.
But that's fine. But if you I'm just saying term term. Definitely,

(01:27:01):
I think Murray should try the NFL. I think he will.
He'll be on an NFL roster next year. I think
baseball will wait because it's gonna be there coming up
next year. On The Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio,
Lebron James his groin is injured. He's gonna be fine.
The Lakers will be fine. Rob disagree. The Dan Patrick

(01:27:25):
Show Twelve years in and going strawp year but we
can always be better. I want you to be better.
Listen to more Dan Patrick on The Dan Patrick Show
app for example, or here's the thought, don't miss it
in the first place. I want you to grow. Maybe
listening while working out another thing that you're not doing

(01:27:45):
frequently enough. I never seen Dan Patrick's and finally spend
more money on Dan Patrick's Show apparel because they want
the money and they want the money now. Well, that's
just a good decision anytime of year. Get the DP
show app in the iTunes store. More Google playing now,

(01:28:12):
Happy Holidays from everyone, and The Dan Patrick Show to you,
talk to you in the New York is Dan Patrick.
He's the greatest post there is. But for all this
week there's a big game seat while he spends time
with his kids, got to stand in trying to fill
his massive shoe block. Boy, you know what they say,

(01:28:34):
guys who have make feet probably have a huge as
PAULI would say, no need to come in on that. Dan.
Here's Jason McIntyre and Rob Parker back here on the
Dan Patrick's Show Fox Sports Radio, rolling into our number three.

(01:28:55):
I am Jason McIntyre, he is Rob Parker. We are
filling in for Dan and the Danettes. Hope everybody had
a tremendous Christmas. Mine was outstanding, Robs was excellent. Let's
move on to sports, shall we yes to talk about
Although I will say, Rob, I saw you rolling in

(01:29:17):
here this morning in a nice, shiny new car. You
get you get paid in the escalade there, No, no, no,
that's the same car I had a last summer. I
got it. It just looks good. Yeah, that's twenty seven,
you baller? What please look at that? Please? You're the
one driving around. I had two thousand and eight paid
off cars. Nothing wrong with that. You got two kids
to pay to stack those chips, and you don't stack

(01:29:39):
them by paying making car payments. No, no, no, that's
a good idea. Although I did tell my wife I've
been gambling so strong on the NFL and college this year.
I said, listen, it's getting close. I might eat. I
might eat an upgrade. We'll see. She has to sign
off on the big purchases. Eye, I don't have that problem.
Do your thing. I know that's a lot of guys

(01:30:00):
out there, like Jason, Geez, you gotta do. I'm like,
you gotta keep the happy wife, happy life. There you
go Rob, or you just be a bachelor and you
have a happy life all the time. No, I'm just kidding.
I'm sorry. I didn't mean. No, I'm not on that
any dating apps. No, I don't do that. That would
be don't you think that would just not work for me? No,

(01:30:23):
it wouldn't. It wouldn't be awesome for me. You need
to get up on what Jay date? All these uh
dating apps go for him? No, I mean it's it's
either that only you know. Normally my dates start with
once she gets the approval from MasterCard. That's usually they

(01:30:44):
are not a sponsor of this show. Hey, by the way,
do you think Lebron had to sell his wife? I'll
move to la Oh no, of course not come on,
easy move and you know what, uh once you get here,
I think even when I have people visit, nobody wants
to leave. My god, my brother doesn't want to They
just begging to get out here. What's your dealing with

(01:31:04):
FS one? How long are you out there? You can
say a decade because I'm gonna come out there, all right.
My mom and dad both love it out here. It's expensive,
as we know, right, But it's what I'm telling you
guys Like it's like, if you follow me on Instagram,
it's like sixty three degrees on Christmas Eve. We're outshooting baskets,
you know, like East Coast. It's like thirty before we
get to Lebron real quick. I just want to drop

(01:31:25):
this on you when you make it all Here we go,
all this hooplah over unscheduled. I have no idea what
Rob's about to say. Oh, this Baker may feel love
that rookie years had. Here we go. How many games
have they beat? How many games have they won against
a team with an one the Ravens, and it was
like twelve and that's the only game. Every time they

(01:31:46):
played a good team, they got annihilated. I see producer
Rob sending a big middle finger your way get back
to Lebron. Pencil it in next segment we got all
I'm saying. That's it. I just wanted to put that
out there so when you go, will it does matter
who you beat? Okay, that's where we are. That matters
who you beat. Lakers are beating everybody. They just beat
the Warrior. No, they weren't beating everybody. They went in

(01:32:07):
the downturn until the Warrior's game. They are fourth in
the West, the better conference, Lakers doing great. Lebron pulled
his groin, he's injured, and rob in the first hour
of the show, you were like, hey, Jay, like Lebron,
do make it happen soon. I don't think he's gonna
win anything in LA First of all, I don't think
he's gonna win a championship in LA. Why why why?

(01:32:30):
I just don't think anybody else is coming. I think
they're way nobody else's coming. You just don't saying how
awesome la Isa. By the way, no, no, no, but
you gotta play with bad as Jimmy Butler. Not true,
I'm talking about you're talking about the toxic situation where
Lebron goes on, where Rachel Nicholson goes I don't know

(01:32:50):
what people are talking about. What do you mean toxic?
I don't know where that came from. Kyrie Irving decided
that he didn't want to play with Lebron anymore and
even threatening organization. If you don't get me out of here,
I'll have surgery and I won't be here. Okay, crafty move, Okay, no,
no doubt. He forced the hand. You also had Paul

(01:33:11):
George talked about for two years coming back to LA.
This is his hometown. He's from Palmdale, right outside of LA.
And then and then uh, Lebron comes here. He didn't
want to come. He's staying in Okay so he can
go back. I could go on and on and on
about the players. He nobody wants to play because it's
a bad look for you. From this damnpoint. If Lebron wins,

(01:33:34):
it's about him. If Lebron loses, it is because he
doesn't have anybody. That's the narrative. How do you win? What?
What would make where to go? Right now? What? You're insane? Rob?
Can we get Chris Bosh on the horn? Because I'm
telling you right now, you go ask Chris Bosh. Yes,
it was toxic, but would you do it again? Would
you go to Miami win two titles being on that

(01:33:55):
day weight be in the finals four straight years? Or
would you rather stay in Toronto and maybe get to
the second round for four straight years? Chris Bosh, I'm
telling you, I don't know Chris Bosh. I think we
share an agent, but I've never spoken to him. I'm
telling you a thousand percent Chris Bosh would say, I
would go to Miami, Chris and the two titles. Chris
Bosh's legacy took a down. Why are you with Lebron? Stop?

(01:34:19):
People don't even he didn't have a legacy. He was, Yes,
he was. He was twenty and ten guy losing in
the second round, and he became he became this third
wheel on that Nobody ever mentions Chris Bosh. Oh time,
Chris Boshes, I need a twenty second time out here.
Chris Bosh is irrelevant. And when you talk about he's
got two rings, when you talk about that that team,

(01:34:39):
you talk about Lebron and winning two rings there, you
don't talk about Chris Bosh. You My head is buried
in my hands. Chris Bosh, He's got two times. Okay,
let me ask you on that team, Rob can you
get Kevin Love on the horn? Kevin, would you rather
stay in Minnesota, missing the playoffs and back in Patton
stats or would you rather go to the finals four

(01:35:01):
straight years and win was it three or four? Whatever
it is, win a title. Kevin Love one hundred times
out of a hundred would take the title. You'll never
be able to take that away from Kevin Love. Twenty
five years from now. I was an NBA champion. I
checked Steph Curry in the final thirty seconds. I had
a decent series. Whatever, I'm an NBA champion, there's no doubt.

(01:35:22):
Do you want a championship? Sure? But even he was
quoted as saying they were dark times playing with dark times,
playing with Lebron. There there's a lot of dark days
playing with the Minnesota Timberwolves. You and you ain't going nowhere,
and you get summer off starting in April, and this injury,
it's the worst case scenario for the Lakers, for Magic,
for Rob Polinka, for Laker fans. You're starting to see

(01:35:45):
Lebron James agree. This injury is like, this is what
could happen when you get older. And I know Lebron
James has been this machine. He's been healthy, He's been
able just to stay healthy his whole career, but it
can take something like this. He would he was very
fortunate that it wasn't a terror or a rip. And
even now with this, even though it's day to day

(01:36:06):
in the MRI, yesterday came back clean, which is all
good news, and nobody hopes he gets hurt. But as
you get older Jason is that chance. And that's all
I'm saying. If I'm Anthony Davis, I'm looking going okay,
let me see. So I'm gonna go up there if
they are, And of course it's got to be some
sort of trade, and I don't see the Pelicans doing it,

(01:36:26):
but anyway, and then I'm gonna go up there, and
then maybe Lebron might get hurt, and then I'm stuck
on a team without him or Lebron James. As he
gets older, he's not gonna get better. He's gonna get worse.
And here's the thing you gotta remember. When he came
to LA I said, if he doesn't win a championship
in the first two years, he will not and ot
win a title. And I don't believe Lebron's gonna get one.

(01:36:48):
I don't I don't think. I don't know he's going
to get a player, and I don't think he's going
to let me push back. I think this Lebron brief
injury is a blessing in disguise. He tried to do
too much last year to prove I don't need Kyrie.
He played all Lady two games. I thought that was foolish.
He did that because the commissioner came down after they
had all the games that he kept taking off, and

(01:37:11):
and and and and fans buying tickets, and Lebron, you know,
just decided not to play because he wanted to rest.
That's why I played all Lady two games. Again, I
will split hairs and kind of disagree there. So the
deal with Lebron now is his guys are gonna get
brandon ingram Hey, let the offense flow through me for
a game or two, which is great. But you mentioned

(01:37:32):
Anthony Davis, and I just want to say these NBA
guys used the media as well as anybody. And this
is not a shot at the media. But when Lebron
James made some comments this week, and I'll tell you
why he made them. First, I want to go back
to you. Remember Kevin Durant said all these comments, the
toxic stuff about Lebron. Yeah, it was probably it was
probably the most honest take that I heard a player

(01:37:55):
talk about a rival during during the time that they're
playing against each other. I'm serious. So I've started to
get to know Kevin Durant a little bit through Instagram.
We swap messages a Bunch. I called him and I said, Kyd,
you released these comments about Lebron because you knew everybody
would talk about it. You wanted to time it when
Draymond Greene was returning. So Kevin Duran went did a

(01:38:16):
podcast with somebody. He went and talked to Yahoo, ESPN,
all these outlets to take the attention away from the
Draymond return because remember Draymond called him all these names
or whatever. These guys are crafty. So Lebron sat down
with Rachel Nichols and here's the audio of what he said.
This came out of nowhere, right it's December. Why would
he say this? I'll tell you why. Here's what he

(01:38:37):
told Rachel Nichols. So you're gonna recruit because I've always recruited.
I've always recruited. I mean, I don't know, is this
something new. I've been recruited. I've been trying to get
guys to come play with me since like two thousand
and seven, and I've got rejected a lot. But I've
also have not got rejected a lot of people didn't
want to come to Cleveland. Let me just throw that

(01:38:57):
out there. No, I don't feel that was me. I
would try to recruit so many guys that coming to Cleveland,
and we actually had a we had had a couple
of guys. Just tell me now, don't wait for the
thirty for thirty tell me now, no, I don't want to.
I don't. But it wasn't harding guys Miami. I'll tell
you that. Lebron, what are you doing? Just threw up
in my mouth. Bizarre. I mean really, but why is

(01:39:18):
he doing this? Here's why the timing of this. Okay,
this came out this week. What was the big NBA
story last week bleeding into the weekend. Lebron should be
fine for tampering with Anthony Davis. You know what Lebron
just did. He changed the narrative. He totally flipped it
from oh finding Anthony No, and then it was on Christmas,

(01:39:39):
the whole comments about the Jewish rap lyrics. Lebron got
embroiled in these nasty things. And now let me just
go give some chummed in the water to the media.
Nobody wanted to play with me in Cleveland. Now nobody's
talking about Anthony Davis or the rap comments about Jews.
Like Lebron is crafty. This is a smart move on
his part, Rob, it's gross. I don't like it, but

(01:40:03):
it's smart. Yeah, but I just for him to dump
on the whole idea is it's not about the city
you play in. If that's the case, then Phoenix, Arizona
and the Sun should get all the free ages. If
it's about the weather and where you want to play,
it's a cop out. It's supposed to be that players
want to come with the greatest basketball player on the planet.

(01:40:24):
That's supposed obedient the Uh what makes you want to
go there? Not because you're playing forty one home games
in Cleveland. It's a total cop out. Kreem Abdul Jabbar
won a title in Milwaukee in the seventies or late sixties,
early seventies. You know what he did. He demanded a trade.
It's not a good cultural fit. And look up the quotes.
Yea into Boston, Magic drafted into the Lakers. Chicago Bulls

(01:40:51):
drafted Michael Jordan. We always love to say those guys
stuck out their teams. Rob, they got drafted into an
awesome city. But wait a minute. How many championships did
the Bulls franchise win before Michael Jordan got there? None?
They were a laughing stock. They were a terrible franchise.
Michael Jordan didn't go. I don't want to go to
the Bulls. They've never won a city. I'm talking about

(01:41:12):
as a franchise, they were good. It's what I'm trying
to tell history. Nobody ever says, hey, I got a
week off for spring break, Let's go to Cleveland's that's
a cop out. That's just a cop out. Cleveland is
a dump. And you know Cleveland, and and and in
two thousand and four, the Lake, I mean, the Lakers
got upset by let me see the Detroit all right,

(01:41:34):
how many people are going to Detroit on vacation. Stop
it with the damn stop it with the city. They
had great basketball going. You can build your more social
you know, you build your brand by winning. It ain't
all about where you are. Stop it. That's just a
can win by themselves. That's established. Michael Jordan win, didn't
win Jack Squat until point is didn't win a damn thing.

(01:41:56):
People don't want to play with Lebron. That's just the fact.
It's been proven. Degree Let's get should we ask Kuzuma
about it? Lonzo, how do they feel playing with Lebron huh.
I'll tell you right now. One hundred thousand percent. Ben
Simmons wants to be in LA, A million percent. Jimmy
Butler wants to be in LA. The Clippers gave his list,

(01:42:17):
don't rule out. He gave his list. Hiree Irving gave
his list. He didn't. Boston wasn't on his list. Now
he's talking about, Oh, I want to sign him Boston.
But Jimmy Butler wants to be in LA with Clippers
are Lakers all I'm saying. All I'm saying, they'll take
New York. Lebron doesn't have to do that. Don't don't
dump on Cleveland as the reason that guys didn't want
to come play with you. If you are indeed to

(01:42:37):
goad and some great player that that everybody will will
think back and look and say, man, we were watching
one of the greatest players ever. Players recognize that it's
the other stuff that goes with playing with Lebron Kevin
that people don't want to want to deal with. That's
all you're killing Lebron today. Rob. I'm just being honest.

(01:42:58):
You hate Tom Brady. I don't hater in the house. Now.
You don't hate Brady? What do I hate Brady? But
I don't know Tom Brady. You just think he's washed.
Have you watched his arm? Yeah? He hasn't been great.
What spaghetti is that? What Tom Brady story? Before we
go to break? So I used to be at US
Weekly covering you know, sports, celebrities, all that stuff and

(01:43:19):
the like a what's it called magazine? Like that's a
glossy magazine entertainment. Basically I would get all the greatest signments. Jason,
do you want to go to the Playboy party into
super Bowl? Jason? Do you want to go to this?
Like a freemia? It was an awesome job. They tell
me one night, Tom Brady, this young guy, this is
like two thousand and four or five. This young guy

(01:43:39):
He's gonna be at a Victoria's Secret party. Do you
want to go? Of course I wanted to go. This
was before Brady was a major star. He's hanging out
with two buddies that just roll right up to him. Hey, Tom,
how are you can I get a couple of minutes
talk interview? He's like yeah, sure. Tom Brady was the
most chill dude ever get answered the questions. Then I
pressed him on something and he was like, ah, you know,
he's like, dude, get out of here, get away from it.

(01:44:00):
I mean, Tom bra this was a young before he
became a major star. But if you're not wearing garter
and panties, I don't want to talk to well. I'll
say this. The models were like edging me out to
get in and talk to Tom Brady. So listen, I
respect guys who were nice to media. Tom Brady's always
been pretty good to the media. But it's not But
it's not about that. I'm not I don't dislike him
because he talks to the media. He has a radio show.

(01:44:20):
I'm just saying that. It's okay, it's let's just the
eye test tells you that Tom Brady has diminished skills.
Is he still a top ten quarterback? I say he's
in the top twenty, top twenty, top brow. This is insanity.
All right, folks, we will come back. I'm not gonna

(01:44:42):
let that comment slide. Don't worry. But coming up next
here on the Dan Patrick Show Fox Sports Radio, is
Baker Mayfield a bratt. I'm gonna tell you why he's not.
I'm Jason Mcatar. He's Rob Parker. Back after this, back here,

(01:45:07):
on the Dan Patrick Show. Fox Sports Radio. I'm Jason McIntyre.
He's Rob Parker. We are filling in for Dan and
the Danetts. You can follow Rob on Twitter at Rob
Parker fs one. Follow me Jason at Jason R. McIntyre.
Hope everybody had a great holiday, and it ain't over

(01:45:28):
because now we got New Year's even New Year's Day
coming up. All that. What's what's the great quote? Every
year I try to get from the day after Thanksgiving
to New Year's Day without losing my mind. Right, It's busy,
got a lot going on between shopping, hanging out with
your family, seeing friends, and of course we gotta work.

(01:45:51):
Oh yeah, we're worker bees. There's no no stopping in sports.
And this is a busy time of year. A lot
of the big name, big money media guys. You want
to take time off? Are you kidding me? This is
a great time a year. We got the college football
playoffs Saturday, NFL Week seventeen, several games that matter, and

(01:46:12):
of course Black Monday in the NFL. I hate to
break it to you, every Monday's black, all right. So
before we dive into your guy, Baker Mayfield, I see
Aquaman is gonna make one billion dollars. Have you seen
that yet? Oh? No, I saw it. Are you a

(01:46:33):
superhero movie guy? I mean I've seen some of them.
I mean I'm not a big superhero guy. Aquaman was good.
It was no Black Panther, right, but it was good.
I would suggest seeing it. I will give it the stamp.
What was his sidekicks? His sidekick in it? I don't
think Aquaman has yes in the old TV cartoon, No, minno, no,

(01:46:54):
what was his name? I thought he had like a buddy.
I was like a Robin like right, Aquaman didn't have
am my way off base. Okay, but it's possible you're
right and I just didn't know it. Um. You know
who doesn't need a wing man? Your guy Baker Mayfield
Rob Earlier in the show, you called him a straight
up bratt. I thought that was harsh. Would you like

(01:47:16):
to apologize to Baker? Not at all. I just it's
not about football. I'm just talking about the way the
whole shoe Hugh Jackson thing just rubs me the wrong way.
It's have some humility, have some dignity. Understand that a
man was fired. Don't tell a man where he should
go work. Don't talk a guy when kick him when

(01:47:37):
he's down. That's that's what I look at. And before
you make this parade about how great the Browns are
and how great Baker may feel, is go look a
little closer at his stats and numbers. When they play
bad teams, Baker Mayfield excels. They beat one team this
year that has a record over five hundred, and that
was the Baltimore Ravens early in the season, and they

(01:47:59):
beat him twelve of the nine and they couldn't beat
him now. And the other thing is look at all
the other games where they play good teams, and Baker
Mayfield throws three interceptions or two interceptions and doesn't play
nearly as well. So before you crown them and tell people, oh, yeah,
he's this and that. And I understand if you were
in Cleveland or you were a Browns fan and you

(01:48:20):
won one game in the last two years coming in
and now you've won five or whatever it is, and
you got to feel good about where or where your
organization is going. I get all that, but that doesn't
give him the justification to treat another guy, a human being,
a guy like that, no matter whether he was in

(01:48:41):
your corner or not. Guys coaches cut people all the time.
Is that really? Do you hear people running? Go Bill Belichick?
You sob How dare you cut me and all this
other stuff and treat people? Or or you didn't start me?
I've never heard anywhere. And I'm asking you, Jason, name
the guy who when a coach was fired that they

(01:49:03):
had an all out assault attack on I've never heard it.
I've never it's an attack. Why are you doing this?
Just go beat the Bengals, which he did, That's why
he's got those two wins. But I got news for you.
He didn't just go beat the Bengals because it's Baker Mayfield.
They had given up five hundred yards a game three

(01:49:24):
games in a row, which it had never happened in
the NFL before Baker Mayfield went there and won a
couple of games. That defense is horrendous, as porous, it's putrid.
That's why it's had success. It has nothing to do
with anything else. Rob Parker coming in hide all right,
he said a lot there. Let me dive into some
of it. For starters, I would not have acted the

(01:49:47):
way Baker Mayfield did that, right, But I'm not gonna
kill him for it. I Mean, the problem, Rob is
we like our quarterbacks to be like senatorial, like they're
leaders of state. They the podium, they look the part,
they're dressed up, and they say all the right things.
That's what we want. Okay, Peyton Manning has done that

(01:50:07):
for years, Tom Brady's done that, Joe Montana. These guys
never you know, exacted revenge viscerly or even verbally the
way Baker Mayfield has. But is there something robbed too?
This is a new generation and maybe you are an
old man yelling at a cloud and Cam Newton is
going to show up at press conference, is wearing those

(01:50:29):
wacky outfits and saying some things that maybe aren't what
you want your quarterback saying that's what Baker's gonna do. Now.
Sam Dartld my guy with the Jets, He's not gonna
speak the way Baker does. But on some level should
we give that a pass and say, listen, Baker has
been outstanding again. I told you earlier I started a

(01:50:49):
gambling podcast this year. I look heavily at the numbers.
The numbers tell me Baker Mayfield right now is the
fifteenth best quarterback in the NFL. That is shocking for
a rookie that, by the way, is ahead of Jameis Winston,
Kirk Cousins, Joe Flacco, Car Drabisky, Cam Stafford, Mariota. Baker's

(01:51:10):
been great. Does some of you subscribe to Hey, you win?
You put up stats as a rookie passes, closing it
on the rookie record set by Peyton. Can you run
your mouth a little bit? No, you can run your
mouth about football, but not to kick a man who's down.
You could be brash and have a chip on your shoulder.

(01:51:30):
I get it, you are walk on and all the
other accomplishments that he has. I get that. I respect that,
But you don't kick a man who's down. I don't.
I will never subscribe to that. I'll never buy into it.
No matter whether you like Hugh Jackson or not. Hugh
Jackson sounds yes he was fired. Well, why it doesn't
matter what? It doesn't matter what. It doesn't matter. Why

(01:51:53):
what was his record? The number Hugh Jackson wins or
whatever it is they see three and thirty six, It
doesn't matter. Somebody get me that. Never it does. Jackson
stunk at his job, and Baker was upset that he
had Tyrod Taylor plan ahead of him. Now, I would
Rob Marnelli was in sixteen in Detroit. I don't remember
any ex player ripping Rob Marronelli personally after he loved No,

(01:52:18):
it's not a different era's only that was only up
five or six years ago. Wasn't that long? Will the
social media is now a big no. But Baker that
has nothing to do about Baker. Mayfield is obsessed with
social media. I just think he's got people in his ear.
Hugh Jackson stinks he's the worst. All right, you know what?
We got somebody coming up on the show bad Look.
Who can help us get into Hugh? This guy is
a great storyteller. I see him on the lot at

(01:52:40):
FS one. He's always got good stuff. Dave Wanstad, former
NFL and college football coach, joining the show. Dave, how
are you good? Dave? What's up? Good morning? I'm doing great?
Uh right here in sunny Chicago, you know getting yeah,
you go. Hey, let's get started with the topic we
were just talking about. You've been a head coach in

(01:53:01):
the league. Have you ever seen a quarterback kind of
take shots at at a former coach? The Waves Baker
has it former fired coach. I mean, Dave, I've never
seen this and I don't get it. I don't understand
why he continues this with Hugh Jackson. What's your take
on Baker Mayfield and this thing? Well, truths number one

(01:53:25):
before the NFL Draft last year, of all the quarterbacks
coming out, I'm on record is saying I would have
taken Baker Mayfield number one because I liked the kid.
I liked his intangibles, I like all that. So I'm
a fan of his as a football player. Now on
the other side, what's going on now it would concern me.

(01:53:47):
I don't like it at all. I really don't. I mean,
there's not a place for that. You gotta be a professional,
you gotta be first class. I mean, he's gonna find
out in this business that it is. Things happen and
you never know how things are gonna circle on back around,
and uh, you know, there may come a taste it is.

(01:54:09):
I mean, things happen and all of a sudden, and
he's just not it's just not the reaction to you, Jackson,
what's going on? But every owner and every head coach
and every general manager you know, along with all immediate people,
they're they're all witnessing this, and it's it's just not healthy.

(01:54:29):
There's no place for this in the game. Move on,
and you know why it's gonna catch out. I mean,
it would confirmed me if I was Greg Wooden. Let's
talk about trying to win a game this week. You're
gonna go play Baltimore, the number one defense in the league,
and it's Tuesday or Wednesday, and we're still having conversations
about staring at you Jackson. I mean, boy that it's
considrably I don't like it. And David just to me

(01:54:52):
have some humility, like, like, the guy was fired, what
do you what do you want him to? I just
don't understand what he wanted him to do. You know,
to me, he got fired. Well, and you know what,
I'll bet you that. And I don't know how the
structure worked there, you know, with John Dorsey, you know,
being the new general manager there and everything. But usually

(01:55:13):
I would I would really be hard pressed to say
that Bantro Mayfield is not the first pick in the
draft to the Cleveland Bronze without you, Jackson standard on
the table and whether he was the force behind it
or just agreeing and saying, you know what, I like
this kid. I can coach this kid. Let's take him,
you know what I mean? So look at it that

(01:55:35):
you wouldn't be where you're at today. He had some
part in it. And I don't know how much you know,
but it doesn't matter. I mean, it's I don't There's
just no it's dis according trug with Dave Wants that
former NFL college football coach, he's now a Fox Sports
college football analyst. Day before we get to the college
football games, I wanted one more question. Week seventeen, Chicago

(01:55:56):
Bears Minnesota Vikings. This is a weird spot for the
Bears because they are in a situation where they can
pick their opponent right if they if they let the
Vikings beat them, they'll play the Vikings again. And if
they beat the Vikings, they're maybe saying they want to
face Nick Foles and the Eagles. How do you think
the Bears look at this game? A lot of people
are resting starters. Your thoughts on Chicago Minnesota? Yeah, I

(01:56:20):
know how they're approaching. I do a couple of Bears
radio shows here and I have a TV show here
in Chicago before I come to La so I know
firsthand that you know they're they're focused on getting the bye.
And if you look at the history of the by
the teams can have gone to the super Bowl with
a bye. It's two thirds of the teams that have

(01:56:41):
gone to the Super Bowl, I think since two thousand
are somewhere in that category have had a bye. So
there's a large percentage as far as the advantage of
having to buy and getting into the Super Bowl. And
Matt Neggie, I think he's looking at this thing. You know,
he's handcuffed on this a little bit, because you know,
football is an emotional game. You gotta know that, and

(01:57:03):
you have to be all in and to knowing that
to win a game, and particularly on the road against
a team like Minnesota. But I think Mattnegie was a
little bit hands tied. If he if he just doesn't
play as starters and you know, all and loses the
game and the Rams get seat uh boy, I mean,
that would be uh. I mean, that wouldn't be the

(01:57:25):
right thing to do. That's not the right thing to
do for your franchise, for your football team. I think
you have to try to get the best position you
can get. And he has said numerous times this week
that he's they're all going to play and he's going
to try to win this football game. So that's the
only way from a head coaches respect, if he can
approach it. You can't go in and say, oh, we'll

(01:57:46):
see how the game's going on ir end, or we'll
see what the stories and the rams game. I mean
if players here that you're gonna get a half marginal
effort in practice, in preparation, and now you're not going
to play good and probably get somebody hurt. Hey, Dave,
was Bill Belichick right when he was trying to the
Garoppolo thing, knowing that Tom Brady, you know, trying to

(01:58:07):
fight against father time. We've seen Tom Brady. We've seen
some decline this year. Uh you know, I guess Belichick
has always been a guy who'd rather get rid of
you a year earlier than a year late. Um did
this blow up on the Patriots? Well, I don't think so.
And I don't think that the intent with Bill was

(01:58:28):
that Tom Brady, you know, how long is he gonna
be there? I think he is a football coach. You
want to keep the best players if you keep Okay
number one. But I Bill understands he I mean, nobody
understands the importance of having a quarterback that can win
for you more than than Belichick. I mean, Brady's proven
it for him. So I think he just really had

(01:58:50):
a strong belief. He knew how good Garoppolo was, he
knew the system, he liked, he liked his character, he
liked all the intangibles as far as him fitting into
the Patriot way, and he wanted to keep them. I
think it probably came down to that more than than
a next year it might be his job with Brady,
I don't think that was the issue at all. Talk
with Dave Wantstat, former NFL college football coach. He's now

(01:59:13):
a Fox Sports college football analyst. All right, Dave, I
want to pivot to college football and the playoff games
is Saturday. Um, we're seeing some news about suspensions of
players for Clemson and Alabama. First of all, do you
read anything into that? And second of all, which underdog
is more likely to show up and maybe pull off

(01:59:33):
the victory? Would you give that edge to Notre Dame
or Oklahoma? I it was the Notre Dame. I really would,
just because I think they're a more complete team. You know,
it's I mean, they've won games when their offenses struggled
and their defenses, you know, risen up and got the
job done and vice versus. So I like Notre Dame

(01:59:55):
to to have the best opportunity for a upset. Wouldn
call with that? You know, I guess don't see Oklahoma
as much as I like them. I think Oklahoma and
everything going on with Kyler Murray, you know what I mean,
coming back he believe in. I mean, there's a lot
of moving parts down there. You know, is a deef

(02:00:16):
as a coordinator. Is Ruffer McNeill going to be back
or not? So I don't know. I like Notre Dame
to be the favorite. If there was going to be
an upset, I think it would be them. And Dave,
let me let me follow up with one more. We've
seen Oklahoma just dominate the postseason awards. We know Kyler
Murray of course won the Heisman. I wonder as a coach,

(02:00:37):
do you think Nick Saban is using any of that? Hey,
the NFL wants Lincoln Riley, Kyler Murray's the best player.
Do you think Saban is using any of that as
a motivational tactic for the Tide or does he not
even need that. No, I don't think he needs it.
I think what you said right Air is right. But
you know, and I would. I can remember when I
was coaching the Bears and Dolphins and even Penn. I mean,

(02:00:59):
if we were playing a dominant player, you know, if
we're playing against in the old days Detroit with Barry Sanders,
you didn't sell Barry Sanders. I mean you put the
tape on and watch about six plays, and the guys
get the messages. I think that's the same messages now
that uh that Nick Saber is gonna get. He'll put
that tape on. He's gonna see this kid, make him

(02:01:20):
plays Murray that that nobody else has made all year,
and it's gonna get his attention. Dave, what do you make?
Do you? Do you understand some of these kids who
aren't don't want to play in bowl games because they
look at at their futures the NFL. They don't want
to get hurt. Can you understand that? And how do
you as as a coach or or you know college football,

(02:01:43):
how can you get around this or do you just
accept it? Well, let me tell you, you know, two
thoughts on this one. When I was a kid. I
had the round Reevers. He came out, Earli Lashan McCoy
came out early. I had players leave or Dehon Lewis,
Henry at Osky, I had guys leave early. And my

(02:02:04):
thinking was, if you were going to be a first
or second round draft pick, go okay, go right now.
So I had I had no problem with that. Here's
a little bit what's happened in college football now, everything
the whole recruiting spill. And I was in college football
early at USC's you guys know in Miami, you know,

(02:02:25):
and Pat and then I went to the NFL for
you know, fifteen sixteen years and then came back to college.
And how it's changed is now everything in colleague and
with the recruiting, it's about come here and we are
going to get you ready for the NFL. They want
to be in colleague the shortest amount of time possible
and be the highest draft pick they can be, right,

(02:02:47):
And that's kind of the mentality. So here's how I
would handle it if I was still coaching, if I
was playing for the National Championship like Nick Saban and
one of these guys. To me, it's an easy song.
These kids want to get a ranked that's not a problem.
But for the other schools' problem with it, I really
wouldn't because you know, I promise you there they're selling

(02:03:09):
to these kids, Hey, come here, we're going to develop.
You know, you're gonna be a top run draft pick.
Now here we sit, and the kid's gonna be a
top run draft pick. And he's and he's playing in
this bowl game that he really can't help himself. I think.
I don't think as a head coach, I don't think
you can stand on the table and take the other
side of the fence when you pull him something differently

(02:03:29):
when you recruited him. Dave, I'll let you get out
of here with this one. You're not a fair take, right, Yeah,
that's very very fair. Would you advocate changing to an
eighteen playoff sixteen? Keep it at four? Absolutely eight. I've
been beating at table. I've been texting with guys. I
won't say the name's high high up commissioner. I believe

(02:03:50):
that two things happened to make to have to happen
to make this right. You gotta if you're not gonna
make Notre Dame play a conference game. And you know,
as an example. It's it's guys, it's gotta get fair.
It's not. Everybody's not playing on the same ground right now.
And there's too many commit too many decisions. And I'm

(02:04:10):
serious about this now being made in this committee room,
you know, with more decisions need to be made on
the field. If they expanded, hey, then there's room for
another game. Then there's room for a Central Florida. Now
I'm not necessarily saying that every conference champion has to
be in the playoffs. I'm saying, put the eight best
teams in. You know, so there's no guarantee. I mean,

(02:04:33):
if and I love Utah, we got the bowl game
off pech you know, we are my alma mater. I mean,
if they would have won their the conference and beat
Clemson or no, really, if Northwestern beat Ohio State and
they were in the championship game, should they be in
the College football playoffs? No, but the eighth best team

(02:04:53):
should be in. And the other thing that has to
happen to make this thing fair, everybody needs to play
the same amount of Power five teams, not conference teams.
So here, you know, here what I'm saying, if the
Southeast Conference wants to continue playing eighth, let them play eight.
If the Big ten wants to continue playing nine conference games,
let them play nine. But everybody should play the same

(02:05:16):
amount of Power five teams. And in that way, you
got two games left. Let's say it's ten, You've got
two games less for less, less for opponents or whoever
you want to play, you know what I mean, make
that decision. But at least it kind of it kind
of stabilizes this thing a little bit and everybody's everybody's
you know, playing a little bit more. I think on
even playing grind and it takes some of these decisions

(02:05:38):
away from the committee. Totally agree. Dave wants that smart
man Man. Thank you, Bob, thank you very much. Dave
wants that Fox Sports college football analyst Dave have a
great new year. Okay, Sam, do you guys appreciate it?
Coming up here next on the Dan Patrick Show, Fox
Sports Radio, I'm gonna try to get Rob Parker into
a lather about I don't know what. It's easy to

(02:06:00):
work this guy up, right, he gets fired up and
he showed me folks. We got a big update on Aquaman.
Oh yeah, that's next. Fox Sports Radio has the best

(02:06:20):
sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our
shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com and within the
iHeartRadio app. Search f SR to listen live. Back here
on the Dan Patrick's show Fox Sports Radio, It's Your
Boy Jason McIntyre joined by Rob Parker having some cell phones.

(02:06:44):
Aqua laqua lad That was big news, ladies and gentlemen.
I was unaware that Aquaman had a sidekick. He didn't
know the old TV show, like the cartoon or whatever.
He did not have one on the movie, because that's
what was the first thing I said to you, was
a sidekick in the movie and you were like, no,
what's what sidekick? Yea, this has been fun and fast. Hey,

(02:07:06):
this was not on the script and producer Rob's gonna
get upset. One of our guys on The Big League
just wrote this that how is Ben Simmons a top
ten point guard? If he can't shoot, you think he's
a top ten point guard? Ben Simmons is not made
to three as it attempted to three. Well, you should
know your limitations. If you can't make them, what would
you be throwing them up? But is he a top
ten point guard? Yeah? I mean is it just I

(02:07:29):
guess he's able to score and get to the basket, right, Okay,
So that's what I'm saying. So it's amazing. I always
say the same thing. It's amazing on how many guys
can get to that level and you know, to the
pros and they can't they don't have a move or
they can't shoot. It is amazing, but they can do
other stuff that can help you win. So obviously he

(02:07:50):
was able to do it long enough, you know what
I mean, and still change games and altar games and
make it work in a positive way. So even though
he didn't have the best jump shot, he's still made Yeah.
And uh, people are chiming in on social media, of course,
and someone's like, well, Jason Kidd was the top five
point guard. He didn't ever have a shot, got better later,

(02:08:12):
you mean, right, But you know the one thing I'll say,
uh to the guy who wrote this Ryan Glass biago
for the Big League, sharp guy, Russell Westbrook never developed
a three pointer. You know, he's an awful three point
twenty nine percent for his career. Okay, but he does
many well, I mean, is it He's not gonna have
a title ever in his career. That's not true. Stop
saying don't you don't know that? Oh, stop it, don't

(02:08:34):
know that. Did you you thought the two thousand and
four Pittons were gonna beat the Shack and Kobe Lakers?
Did you think that? No? You did not, No, you
did not stop it. Gary Peyton, Carl Malone. Yeah, I
didn't think they would. Okay, So so that's right. It
was a guarantchee uh. That team was one of those things.

(02:08:55):
And I'm just saying, do not just told you you're
you're going on the record. Russell Westbrook will a title. Absolutely,
he will win a title. That's laughing. He will. Russell
Westbrook is now thirty, he has no jumpers and his
body's breaking down. He will. We will be like Alan

good is Seph Curry? Honestly? Do you know how much
he matters to sports? Right now? He's so good? I
thought he was over, isn't it? Isn't it done? I
thought that was all done? What Sef Curry? He's the
could be the MVP if he plays enough games this year.
Really he is so good, dude, stop you know he's

(02:09:36):

you now now you're in love with sting Benefit the
podcast before I even got a radio Curry. You don't

(02:09:58):

It was nice, um, but I will say that he's
just everything about him is good, good human, good family,
smart player. Below the rim guy changed the geometry of
the NBA. Everybody shoot threes now because of Curry. He's
not an athlete. And what I love though Steff Curry's

(02:10:19):

the same height and they feel like they could pick
up step crypay Come on, man, we're like you are
