Oh Yeah, it is The Odd Couple. I am Chris
Bruce had alongside my partner Rob Parker, and we're coming

(00:43):
Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on
your car insurance. Visit Geico dot com for a free
rate quote. And it is a pleasure to come to
you today. And what really kind of feels like a
national hono. You're gonna say that though this is not
get excited or you got the first day of March

(01:05):
man bore you off today? Did you get extra pay?
That's a national holiday? Mister Christmas in our business? Are
there holiday? No, we don't have it. Christmas Day. I've
worked every day Christmas Day, no one the running Detroit
twenty two years straight years of working on Thanksgiving twenty
two straight years. Believe I ate Christmas dinner one year

(01:27):
in the Oklahoma City Airport. What with Hubie Brown? Really?
And it's great conversation with Hubie Brown. The only thing
could he keep most of it down? He's a young
four or whatever he is speaking to young I want
I want to a pancake breakfast with Sam Goldapple who
used to work to Sam. Yeah, as Sam had so

(01:47):
many gaps in his teeth, the pancakes were just flying.
I had to hold up my napkin. Now, you know you,
you know you do not need to be cracking one's age.
You're sitting up here and buying buy focals. Get him
on the camera? You what, No, they don't. They told

(02:10):
you that I can see the line right, You could
barely see it. You know what the problem was? You
can age jokes anymore. But the other glasses I had
my readers, Chris, how did I wear them? I wore
them like this. Well, you didn't remember that a lot
of the time. How do you do? You put them
on and take them away? But I would have them
down like this right because because I don't need them

(02:32):
to see, but I needed to read. You mean to
tell me in twenty nineteen they can't make by focals
where you don't see the line or you just got
some does that bod the line bothers you? No, it
just makes them look a little old oh man, just
saying in fact, well look you are old man. No,

(02:52):
I'm not. I'm You're going on the Golden Girls Bottles Cruise.
I am. If I get spot, I'm going. There's a
TV theme show Thursday. Will you see it will open
it up with the Golden Girls, your favorite sitcom. And
you're gonna be the only brother on the Golden Girls Cruise.
And I'll be probably wearing your buy folks fit. You'll

(03:12):
fit in perfect but yeah, fit in perfectly. So yes,
we will get into of course, the Ncuba Tournament. Still,
of course, plenty of NBA action. Russell Westbrook took twenty
nine shots last night in the loss to Toronto. And
there is a common denominator in the uh thunders plummet.

(03:34):
They've lost eleven of their last fifteen, or eleven of
their last sixteen, in their last sixteen four straight. They
fall into the A seed. They would get Golden State
in the first round. Can you imagine now it's still
up in flux, because that's what they just maybe would
they can still go back. They can still go back,

(03:55):
get easy to get up very high, right, very high.
But right now they're struggling. So we'll get into some
of that. Colin Kaepernick a report that his UH settlement
deal with the league was only ten million dollars. He
and Eric reeve when you say only ten million, you
always gotta temper that because I think people sports it
is there's relative but people are always like, he only

(04:16):
got ten the average person, but the average person is great.
But all right, so we'll get into that. We got
some callers. Sam Ammi, great senior NBA writer for the
Athletic will join us in less than thirty minutes. Second
hour will get Jeff Goodman, college basketball analysts at stadium.
He will be joining us from the Kentucky game at halftime,

(04:38):
so we will look forward to speaking with him. And
then in the third hour, as we do it every Thursday,
trolling and rolling with Martin White. So keep it locked
Fox Sports Radio for the next three hours. You will
not be disappointed. That's right. Let's woke up in of
course the odd couple crew. We wouldn't be able to
do this farm radio program without him. Kevin is all

(04:59):
producer of course, filling in for Rob Ge Alex is
our engineer as always. Steve de Seger is our sports
anchor today filling in for Deb Carson, and our intern
of course is Iowa State Nate. That's what I got
his name now, Yes, Iowa Nathan. I like that with

(05:21):
State and Nate. Yeah that's good. Okay, that's kind of
like that better. Yes he does, but you go to Bradley.
That's okay. They they they they, but he's more about
he's an ilwas They badly represented today. They lost to
Michigan State. But they played them tough. They played him,
they tough. They actually had they could have won that game.
So uh, they played them tough. All right, i State

(05:43):
Nate and of course our social media guru Elijah. Uh,
they are all on the other side of the glass.
Chris Boussard on his TV theme song Thursday, Let's kick
some out, All right, let's do it. Let's start with
the tournament. Did you you made out of bracket? Yeah?
I made out. A couple I made out, but they're
all the same one, no one I'm talking about like

(06:04):
I'm in a friend's bracket. Like they got like some
sort but you have one, but I only have one
bracket with all the same. I'm not like one of
these guys who's gonna pick it. And I got one
winner in this bracket another winner, that's that's lame. So
my minu picts are the same on all the bracket.
How you doing? I didn't look yet. I've just been
a crazy day. Okay. I've looked Alex Bell Mint to

(06:27):
go to the final four. Actually I had him in
the final game. Oh stop, I told you yesterday we bet,
we bet, we bet a dinner Crossroads that a real
quick which is a great vegetarian restaurant in La I
love it, even though I'm not a vegan soul you
I told you, I said, direct quote. I said, that's

(06:48):
like betting that the Clippers are gonna win in the
NBA Championship. And that's what you bet. You just beat
me Bell Mint with He just he just wanted to
go out to dinner with you, because it can't be
a real bad he would say. He was talking trash,
he was getting cocky. Yo, I'm still alive. Though I
have Saint Mary's. She's playing you got Saint Mary's. I've
been winning it all. Let's look at that cut his mic,

(07:11):
cut his mic. It's ridiculous. Man, Come on, my good
but you are gonna be bringing me that dinner though
now I'm not gonna do that obviously out west here
in Los Angeles, the game started at nine fifteen in
the morning, So so you didn't. You weren't up to
tea set up nine fifteen, were you? I did. I
didn't have to do Undisputed this morning or the Herd,

(07:34):
which I've been doing all week Monday through Window I
did under So I was looking forward. I had to
get up at seven to do a radio interview, but
other than that, I was just looking forward to laying
in the bed and relaxing watching some about college bout ye.
But I didn't know. I didn't turn it on immediately.
I just lay I slept, and so I got around
nine thirty and I had to do a few things

(07:54):
and then I turned it on. But now I wasn't
like I gotta turn it on because some people are
like it's a rite of passage for spring, and they're
all into it, and like they were at a sports
bar early, you know, normally at twelve fifteen East coach
time and their buddies and they're drinking beer and they're
eating chicken wings and they're all into it. They might

(08:14):
have taken off from work. Some people have taken off work.
Some people are at work that day. They got TV's
going and I really working your phone, right, you could
watch it at your desk. I'm into it. I just
didn't feel like I looked at Okay, it was Minnesota Louisville.
I think that was the first game, you know, And
so I didn't feel like I had to watch it.

(08:34):
But I turned it on once I woke up. The
first game I was watching, I can't remember what it was.
But here's my here's what I do, here's my strategy.
So I watched and I'm watching whatever game I am
more intrigued by. And they've got the scores. Was great,
now they have the scores of all the other games
up to a little distracted And when I see no,

(08:56):
you think so like, I love it because what it
does when there if I'm watching the game, what game
was I watching him? If I'm watching the game in
the first half, right, and I see, oh, like a
close five minutes left and it's close, whoever it is,
I turned to that channel. So you'll go TRU TV, TBS, TNT,
and I did it with Bradley, Michigan State, with New

(09:18):
Mexico State and uh Auburn. So I watched the last
five minutes of a close game and that's what I do.
And if nothing is close, then I watch whatever game
is intriguing me most like Murray State Marquette. I wanted
to see Ja Morant and uh Rob But but there's
also what you call you know, a lot of you

(09:38):
know that blowouts to in the first round. So some
games you do what in today though, I mean, this
is Murray State rout Marquette. But that was a twelve
blowing out of five and that was exciting because of
have you seen him? Yes, he's the truth. No, he
looks like he is the like he can do so
many things, so athletic. I mean I saw everybody getting
called up and he is athlete. I mean the dunks

(10:00):
and all that. But no, I'm just saying team yeah.
Like he's a point he has seventeen point sixteen assists,
eleven rebounds, I guess how many shots nine very nice
five for nine from the floor. Like he's a true point.
He's a point guard trying to get ever, that's it,
getting everybody involved controlled the game. He's got to be

(10:23):
in the top three picks Zion, RJ. Barrett, and John Moran.
I don't know if it'd be that order, but those
three because I'm questioning John Moran and RJ. Barrett. Now,
I just wonder, like, do people, as time goes on,
are you interested more in certain games? Matchups you're looking for?

(10:44):
Do you know what I mean? Do you get to
the point, like like we we get inundated with so
much stuff. People don't have all that time unless you're
really off and laying on the couch. So to me,
the tournament becomes appointment television. Certain games I look and go,
I want to see that game. Now I might wind
up switching off or going somewhere else, But there are

(11:04):
certain games that I might look at and say, yeah,
I want to see Michigan State, or I want to
see North Carolina, or I want to see dude, you
know what I mean? When you're not just watching, No,
I'm not just a game that you really know. Nobody
is No unless unless I'm watching and somebody or I
see the score like you say, or somebody a friend
of mine says, turn on so and so it's a

(11:27):
three point game and as an upset possible. Now then
I get people. My friends will just text me and
be like, turn on so and so, and then I'll
turn that game on or turn over if I'm not
watching it. But I don't watch just any game just
because it's college basket. I'm a little different. I feel
you for the most part, but I'm a little different way.

(11:48):
I realized a few years ago, maybe eight, seven or
eight years ago that it really doesn't matter because I
used to follow college basketball religiously. No, I got it.
I used to college basketball, like college basketball better than
pro did. I like pro obviously, but I paid more

(12:08):
attention to the NBA in the playoffs. But I was
really into college basket. What city was that that made you?
Because growing up, and the reason I asked you this,
growing up in New York, New York was always a
pro town. You know, we didn't have a college football team. Well,
Saint John's was the only college basketball team, and when
they were good, people were into it. So I'm not

(12:29):
saying that people didn't care. But New York was a
pro town. So you know, with nine pro teams we
grew up and the college stuff kind of just went by.
Where did you get to love for college basketball? What
city were you in? Indianapolis, Indiana the ages like eight
to twelve? Did that makes sense? So? Yeah? But and
then after that it was Syracuse, New York. That's another

(12:52):
college place. Could you live in many more dreary places?
I know, I you know, as a kid, you know,
you don't say no. And then guess where we moved
from Syracuse? Man? And then the Cleveland. Cleveland was like
what did your dad was hyped about? Clear? Did your
dad do to the company that they just like gave
him like the worst job job transfers. He was a

(13:14):
person that manager at Travelers Insurance Company. And we never traveled, alright,
we traveled after the age of seven. I never lived
anywhere for even for five years until I was an adult. Wow,
that's amazing. Yeah, And as a kid, you don't think
about a dreary city or this. We like places up
better than others. But every place I was generally happy.

(13:37):
But when I went back as an adult, like the
Syracuse for the NCAA tournament, I was downtown, I was like, Man,
did we live here? Right? I really was like, And
then I thought about Cincinnati, Indianapolis. I've been obviously been
there for the Pacers games and playoffs, and I'm like, man,
we did we lived in some pole dunk cities. How
did I become so cosmopolitan? May depend in all these places?

(14:02):
And my wife's from New York City? Right, you know?
So opposites do a track, all right, you'll turn away
in NCUBAA tournament day, share your thoughts right sharing his
plan for the tournament? Do you like, are you all in?
Are you watching Walter Wall can't get enough? Do you
pick and choose your games? H do you take off
of what did you take off of work today to

(14:23):
get it started? Are you that kind of a college
basketball fan? Because the tournament especially, I always say this,
there's nothing better than a single elimination. I mean, it's
just an urgency. It doesn't tell you who's the best
player in the name. No, no, no, anybody can be everyone,
everybody every so often the best team. There may be

(14:45):
one team that is clearly just better than everybody else
and wins. But for the most part, it's just who
gets hiding, you know all that? Eight seven seven ninety
nine eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty
nine we will continue this conversation with you. Next, It's

Parker's favorite song in the background. I'm a little moist
right now. The song is better than the sitcom. No,
it's not stop saying that Chris mediocre sitcom that was
a that's an all time stop stop ten, all time.

(15:49):
There is no way I might be down playing it,
but you're up playing top ten stop ten, No way

went in the Walgreen because look even more pronounced than
the child crass stop. Come on, come on, they call
click glasses wrong. I'm telling me, I'll tell a friend,
how are you doing that? Hey? How are you doing this?
A matter of fact, I always like to tell you

(18:21):
that I'm Lorenzo Belle of Marcus Beller's brother. You know
Markus Yeah yeah yeah, call next time you see you
know what you I don't know if Marcus ever told
you this, but our last time its Beller and we
are kid to el Jabeller. Oh you are Marcus yeah,
oh yeah, okay, good relative. But the INCA tournament, man. Uh.
I retired from Corporate America for a year and a half.

(18:44):
And when I was in Corporate America, I took off
every week for the first round of the tournament. Wow.
Then I come back to Corporate America and I was
sitting there at desk today with my trying to watch
it on my my phone. It was killing me to
be sitting up in an office instead of enjoying those
it's the first two days, the first week I was

(19:04):
an employer where you had your phone watching the game,
I'd fire you. Now, I'd be I'll send you hob
be upset, I will I would. It depends on the
type of job. If it's a job where you know,
people just just take off that busy just take off
and you can give you only want to watch the game.
I'm paying you a salary to watch TV all day.
I don't think that's how I feel you. It's Richard

(19:25):
in West Virginia. You're on with Chris and Rob. I'm
going with Tom to listen to a story about a
man named j poor mountaineer Belly kept his family. That's
your top, that's your top. That's a great Richard, that's
a good one. I like that. That was a good
petticoat junction for what the green hell called the shadys

(19:46):
that the jungle sh or. Rob knows a green acres

golden girl. Hold on, hold on? What you can you

bron What are you judging about? I'm the old school, Bro,

(20:33):
I mean every time you get that. But I do
like how you're always getting that. Um Shannon sharp and
skip baylens is the best thing when you're on that
show giving him best. Well, I appreciate that, but come on, man,
I'm a young forty five five till you came in
with the by fuck you wearing by fucker Bro. You
look at more he's wearing Jordan's two, hoping that Dagon

(20:56):
balances it out. What I got on to that, it's
not go ahead, Jerry, what's your point on the NC
double A? All right? So I don't um. I never
took off the first two times. My job was a
really laid back and my job was like if you
got all your work done, they would put it on
for you up in the kind of like the Caffetinia
or the or the or the place where you go

(21:17):
get snacks at, and then we were allowed to watch
it a little bit on our death if all of
our work done. So those first two days, I always
make sure I missed it. I didn't miss a game.
I'm a big, huge North Carolina fan, so I will be,
I'll be. I'll be dialed in tomorrow night when they
play second of all, I love you guys. The best
two shows for for theme songs, A Team and The

he must have read he must he must have read
Rick Keellinger's columns that sometimes. All right, go ahead, Sean,

(22:21):
what's your point about the attorney? So? I all know
about all the other cats, man, but I work for
the government and these days are the absolute best. I'm
talking about everybody from the head chief administrators all the
way down to the dinner. They're playing brackets, walking back
and forth the seeing cubicle, discussing the game man, what
other time of the year can you actually say that
not only is betting accepted at work, but everyone's enthusiastic

(22:42):
about it's the best. Um. No, you're right about that,
that it's not like polarizing because there's so many options,
there's so many different teams. Hey, Chris, let's squeeze in
one more before we get through John in Virginia. You
got about thirty seconds. All right, enjoy the show, guys,
And I'm so glad you're not talking about Lebron tonight.

the original. Yeah, we gotta get that. One of these days.

We will get that. Hey, just so you know, we
work in Smithfield or listening to it in our headphones.
We're not really supposed to watch it, but we're listening
to it on headphones and we always make fun of
the idiot that can't control his phone so that everybody
knows around him that he's been caught. Yeah, that's not good.
Appreciate the call, John, Thanks a lot, man. It's the

(23:47):
Eye Couple of Fox Sports Radio. We will be back
with senior writer for The Athletic, one of the best
in the NBA business, Sam Ammick. But first let's get
to Steve the Sager for what's trending to the same girl. Hello, gentleman.
By the way, if Chris, if if Rob knows the
words to petticoat Junction for crown out Loud, the contest

(24:09):
is over. You can't stump him on anything. No, I know,
I can't. I know, I can't stump him. A little
train is rolling down the I think all you sit
in your house and watch sitcom? What are you talking about.
I'm not old enough to remember petticoat Junction. No, I'm

(24:29):
five years old. That's a big difference as a kid.
Do you remember CBS had all the rural shows, Andy Griffith,
all of those They canceled them all on the same day.
That's right. They got a new executive and they got
all the rural shows off TV, exactly all of them
at the same time. They canceled everyone. You know, one
of my favorites as a kid was Little Rascals. Oh yeah,

(24:49):
that's a great quay in the nineteen thirties. When you're
a girling up, they stimy and alfalfa. But we Buckley
was accused of being racist. They didn't feel that way,
but not at all all right, But his hair was
a little disheveled, a little disheveled fresh time, had a

(25:13):
little hat and little top hat on. And we're chatting
because the Kentucky game's over already. They just started in
Kentucky seed. It's eighteen to three. I got him in
the final. Could have turned yourself and got it in
the final. I'm feeling good about my pick. So no
need for the Abilene Christian coach get a new pair
of pants, because this one is over. It's eighteen three Wildcats,
about eight minutes into the game, Florida ahead of seven

(25:36):

in the first half. There coming up in about fifteen minutes.
It's Villanova against Saint Mary's. Gonzaga the early four to lead.
A couple of minutes in against Fairleigh Dickinson. There are
four other games to be played later tonight. Among the finals,
Murray stayed at twelve seed advances, winning its first rounder
against Mark Had eighty three sixty four, John Morant with

(25:58):
a triple double. Florida Stay beat Vermont seventy six sixty nine,
Michigan State and Minnesota with wins. LSU and Maryland with
victories Kansas rip Northeastern eighty seven fifty three, and Auburn
down New Mexico State seventy eight seventy seven as the
Aggies in the final seconds missed two of three free
throws in an air bowl to three point try at
the end to lose. Buy one Online car shopping can

And I'm pleased to bring in our next guest. He's

(27:27):
a great NBA writer for The Athletic, one of the
most plugged in guys in the country. Here's how plugged in.
Tell me, Sam Amick from the Athletic is he told
me months before I left ESPN and went to Fox
Sports one. He told you. He said that the word
is I heard you're going to follow. He did not

(27:48):
broke that story. Broke it to me before you even knew,
before you saw it, Sam, let is that a true story?
That is a true story, I think if we're we
in the halls of State Center, Chris, Yes, it was
during the was it the playoffs? Or yeah? It was
somewhere out west. Yeah, and you know what I kind

(28:08):
of story. Sam told me. I was leaving ESPN too
before I knew it. I think it was saying it
might have been San Antonio, Sam, that's funny, but it was.
I remember it though. It was somewhere in some back
alleys quick stories on Reporterblie. I was amazed. I was, now, listen, Chris,
now you can tell me you couldn't shoot straight back then? Like, like,

(28:30):
was I right or did you not know yet? You were?
You were? It wasn't one hundred percent, but I was, yeah,
I was, yeah, yeah for sure. Well you had another
great story recently about Golden State and Draymond and just
the state of the warriors. What is the relationship. I

(28:50):
know Draymond and KD have moved past, you know, their
their battle earlier in the year, to be cordial and
things like that, do you think they're where they used
to be? Are they back to being friends? And then
after that, how do you think they're going to fare
in the postseason. I mean, I would say this much.

(29:12):
I you know, I use that word in the story, compartmentalized,
and I feel like that's what Draymond has done. I
can't speak to Kevin's side of it, have not connected
with him on this level as it relates to this dynamic.
I don't think that I would feel confident going to
that next level and saying, you know that everything as
chummy as it was before. Now listen part of this

(29:33):
and you see this happen with different teammates, is that
their individual personal situations kind of change. You know, Draymond's
got a lady in his life. He's real serious, he's
a father, and if you can follow his social media,
you can tell the Draymond is in his lane right
now off the court and probably doing less time with
all of his teammates in terms of, you know, the

(29:54):
social stuff and connecting in that kind of way. I think,
you know, on the court, they have a highly functioning
dynamic that is still going to be worth monitoring. I
think once the playoffs are all around Sam. There was
a video on that Twitter we saw today kind of
comparing the words of Jerry West and Magic Johnson, I

(30:14):
think from Stephen Age radio show because he had at
Jerry right. Yeah, and you know Magic has been taking
a lot of heat and people coming down on Magic
when you look at what's happened with the Lakers, and
we all know that there are injuries, but when you
look at how the team was set up and put
together and what's going on here, how much heat should Magic? Again,

(30:36):
I think a pretty fair amount. I mean, you know,
listen in some respect that clip. When I did retweet
it out because I found it interesting, you could argue
it wasn't entirely fair because it's like this, you know,
fast food kind of happy meal size. Look at Jerry
style versus Magic. Right, But if you want to just
talk about what has happened this season, the substantive stuff,

(30:58):
you know, once they out Lebron and I still I'll
never stop giving the Magic a lot of credit for
playing a huge part and landing Lebron. From there, it's
just puzzling move after puzzling move. When you've got media fans,
NBA types talking about the roster construction and that philosophy
of you know, we're not going to do a Cleveland
did and get shooters. We're gonna have playmakers and defenders,

(31:20):
and god forbid. You follow the Cavs pat everybody's like, wait,
you know what to the finals. You know, quite a
few times it worked pretty well. That was puzzling. I
would probably just for me be more. I give more
scrutiny when it comes to the environment that they have
all created internally with the Lakers, because I'll be honest, guy,
it's just not positive. If you talk to people there,

(31:41):
that's not a real inclusive environment. It's there's a lot
of the paranoia that was there during the Cup check
Jim buss era is now there in a different form now.
I don't think the the front office coaching synergy is there.
I think honestly that you know, my colleague get the athletic.
Bill Orem wrote a callum about Jeanie Buss the other day,

(32:02):
and I think made a lot of fair points. I
think Magic has got to take a step back and
take stock of everything in that organization and not just
have that sense that because Magic, I'm gonna get this job.
Doug now Sam Also, Kevin Durant earlier this season said
the environment around Lebron, whether it's his fault or not,

(32:22):
it's toxic. What about what? I think that word really
fits when you see what happened, how he's had issues
with leadership with his teammates and wanted to trade everybody,
and and how this whole thing fell apart. Lebron has
to get some blame here too as well. Yeah, I
think so. I mean I would if I'm looking at
Lebron the stuff that that I think, you know, if

(32:44):
he could hit the rewind button, I'm sure he would
say that that he wouldn't change anything. You know, how
guys are in general, they're going to be kind of stuff.
But I think talking about as publicly in hindsight was mistaken.
And I understand that, you know, there is a sense
that as super stars, you know, it's kind of like,
don't tell me what I can talk about what I
can't talk about it And the empowerment going on in

(33:05):
the league I think has a lot of positive elements.
But I think the part that he skipped over is like, listen,
if you don't get this deal done, these are young
guys in your locker room who are reading this stuff
on social media and seeing you know, they're not stupid.
They know if you're talking about ad then that means
you better pack your bags if you're one of those
young Lakers right now and you're trying to build something

(33:26):
in the interim to have chemistry, cohesion, selflessness, all these
things with this current Lakers team, and then you saw
what happened. They didn't play well and the injuries played
a major part. But you know that gap, that generational
gap between Lebron and a lot of those guys, and
I don't know if you know, kind of put it
on the age difference, if you put it on some
of the actions, but they just didn't seem to click

(33:48):
and create something that you did better than what we saw. Sam,
what do you think happens with the Lakers this summer?
I mean, I'm not gonna try to trade for Anthony Davis,
but among the free agents, even if it's second tier, like,
what do you think is realistic for them? So I'm
starting to kind of I'd be curious how you guys
see it. I'm starting to hone in a little bit

(34:10):
on Jimmy Butler is an interesting one because if you
start going through the list. You know, nobody thinks it's
gonna be Kauhi. Clay Thompson, by most accounts, is going
to stay put be with the Warriors. Uh, you know, Kyrie.
It's the Boston, New York type of thing. You know. Kevin,
Kevin does not it. I mean the comments alone tell

(34:30):
you where his head is at in relation to Laker Land.
You know, then you're getting into Jimmy, Tobias Harris, the
Marcus Cousins and Jimmy. It's funny because nights like last night,
are you know, the Lakers should hope that's you know,
Philly doesn't have too many more of those because two
game winners for them, Yeah, I think maybe even three.

(34:50):
He had about two right at the gate. And it's
a trip because the whole I talked to Jimmy when
the Sixers played the Warriors, and here's the irony they
beat Golden State. You think he'd be on cloud nine.
And my conversations with him that night after the game,
you could kind of tell he was still kind of
tripping on how this was going to work. And I
even said, you know, I know you're used to being

(35:10):
a number one option. How's it working now, and he
kind of smiled. He's like, well, I'm in option, you know,
And so he was trying to get through that. But
Joel Embiid seems to be willing to give him at
least that fourth quarter closer rule, and I think that's
the kind of thing that could compel him to stay.
I don't know how much money Philly is willing to
give him, but if he does bounce from Philly, you know,

(35:32):
I started looking at like New York Lakers for a
guy like Jimmy, and if if it's not him, then
I think the Lakers are in a real bind. And listen,
you could argue that Lebron and Jimmy how far is
you know? Where's that going to make you? Yeah? Yeah,
but that might be their best shot. Sam, We'll appreciate it.
We'll get you on again. Absolutely, guys, be good later.

(35:55):
Levian Bell took some parting shots at Big Ben Roethlisberger.

Come with those bifocals. I don't even have, God, I
didn't have one. Can we get on the lay Beyond
bell and what he said about big back? Here it

(37:22):
is Ben has been. He's the quarterback. At the time,
I'm thinking, that's how I supposed to be. He's supposed
to be like that, like on Quarterback of Leaders and
everybody going to the quarterback. It is when it is,
But it's like you're still a teammate at the end
of the day. You're not. You know what I'm saying,
You're not Kevin Colbert. I'm saying that, mister Rooney. Several players,
you know, Antonio Josh Harris also said some things in

(37:43):
recent weeks about Ben's leadership abilities. What was your relationship
like with him? And was that a factor why you
didn't want to stay in Pittsburgh. I mean that was
part of it. That's part of it that it wasn't
the factor. That was a factor. Yeah, he was a factor.
You're relationship with him and you wanted it to be
different in a way. Yes, all right. That's Levian Bell

(38:08):
recently signed with the New York Jets. He said his
relationship or lack thereof with Big Ben rhinds a factor
was a big fact book. Ben is not a good leader,
no period. I'm with you, Chris, And you know what,
there's enough guys who have come out James Harrison there
there are enough for me to know that there's something
going on there. And this is the other part I said.

(38:30):
I was on the Disputed today and I said, you're
talking about the offensive players who didn't have like who
are going against Ben. Now, they flourished under Ben. You
know a quarterback. It's not like it's not had nothing
to do with him. Ab had six of the greatest
years of a wide receiver ever. Had lebian Bell flourished

(38:51):
yea under Ben Roethlisberger. And I brought this up before.
This was like when remember to crying dutch Mark quarter Yeah,
you know what I mean, Like they have a relationship
with these guys. For them to come out now and
say that there was an issue there, I gotta buy it.
It's not like he was a bad quarterback and he
couldn't get them to football and you couldn't get paid

(39:12):
because he was terrible that guy. I could see you
ripping on Chris. No, I can't quite And here's what
I think. Look, obviously he's a great quarterback. He's a
Hall of Famer, and we got all that he won.
When he won his Super bowls, he was young, he
was not the team leader, and he didn't carry him
to those Super Bowls. It's first when he threw for

(39:34):
like ninety one yard and didn't even get in on
that touchdown at the goal line. If you go back
and watch the video, tee, he didn't get in. So
so when I'm really thinking about Ben and I'm of
the belief Rob, I think we differ on this. I
think the Steelers are still gonna be good this year.
I think they're gonna fight for the playoffs and maybe
make probably make the playoffs or have a good shot

(39:55):
at making it, even without lev Bell. And so I'm
not posit, but I don't think with Ben Roethlisberger as
their leader, I don't think they can win a Super Bowl.
That's what good. They can be good well, especially when
you especially when you look at how many people, how
many plays, when look at all the talent they like.

(40:17):
Part of the reason they had didn't win a Super
Bowl with those great offensive players was because of his
poor leadership. I really believe that now, just the camaraderie,
the lack thereof the lack of chemists. Look out the
Patriots feel about time I can. I'll give you this.
Here's another example of leadership. They all decided the night before,

(40:40):
during the Kapepernick stuff that they wouldn't come out from
the right. So they all decided, now he's a leader,
he's a quarterback. And then the next day he rips
Tomlin for a coming up. When were you as a
leader that night before to say we shouldn't do this whatever. Whatever.
You can't go back after the fact because there was

(41:00):
some pushback and then throw your coaching team under the bus.
That's not a leader. He's thrown everybody under the bus.

It seems like just a few weeks ago, everybody was

(41:42):
talking about Oklahoma City, not that they're gonna win the West,
that they're gonna beat Golden State, but they were talking
about the success that they were having. Paul George was
in the MVP conversation and now what were they the
third seed to fourth seed something like that. Now they
are the eighth seed. They have lost four straight games,

(42:07):
eleven of their last sixteen. They're not gonna fall all
the way out of the playoffs because Sacramento has stumbled
and now they're the ninth seeds seven games behind. Lakers
are worse. They're not talking Lakers ten and a half
games out. Nobody right just scares you as Lakers. No, what, nothing,

(42:33):
I don't even know what you're talking about anyway. Olahoma City,
Oklahoma City. It's falling apart. And one of the major
reasons I'm a defender of Russell Westbrook. I've argued with
Colin Cowher many a time on his show about Russell
whisper respecting him and what he is doing. But that said,

(42:58):
he took twenty nine shots last night and they lost
to Toronto. And if you look at these last sixteen
games where they have fallen off the map, one of
the things that's happening is Westbrook is shooting the ball
a lot more. He's averaged twenty three shots a game

(43:20):
in these last sixteen. He was averaging nineteen before that,
and that's four shots. Makes a big difference. And Westbrook
is not playing the type of basketball that's gonna win
big games at a high level, and I have come
to the conclusion, look what he's doing. He's gonna average

(43:41):
a triple double for the third straight year. Who knows
he might average a triple double for the next two years.
Fall we know twenty five years from now, Russell westbrook
is going to be an icon. People are gonna be
looking back and say, you know what, twenty five years ago,
there was a guy did average a triple double for

(44:02):
three straight years. When you talk to people about the
Big Old Oscar Robertson, as great a player as he was,
he won one championship. The thing they mentioned first, the
thing they remember about him as what rob Well, the
average a triple double? But he was the only guy
who had done it. Yeah, but Russell Westbrooks the only

(44:23):
guy to do it three times. No, I get it
if I'm saying when when you talked about the Big Old,
because he had been the only one who had done
it for a long time. I don't know how many
years have passed he did the early sixty I want
to say two or something or something like that. But
it was like forty years had passed and nobody else
had done it. That we didn't think it was possible.

(44:43):
Nobody thought Lebron or Magic or Hard Penny, Hardaway or
Jason Kidd could do it. Nobody thought it was possible
in today's game for average a triple double. He's done
it for three straight years, so he will be an icon.
But you know what else, I'm convinced, first ballot Hall
of Famer superstar icon will never win a championship based

(45:07):
on what his solid play. So you don't know play
time and time and score. You know, uh time and
score Like he plays at one pace all the time.
He doesn't need to. In their losses. He takes seven
three pointers a game. I'm not shooting below thirty percent
from three, But I'm not convinced if if they get

(45:29):
some other player to add with what they have, that
there's a chance that they could win. All Right, we're
gonna get back to this. We have Jeff Goodman of
Stadium college basketball analysts for Stadium, our former colleague back
at the old network on the line. You're a halftime, Jeff,
Welcome to the Eye couple. You're a halftime of that
Kentucky game, right, Kentucky Abileen State. And you know what

(45:56):
it doesn't Literally, I'm telling you guys saw them before
the game. I looked at them in the in the
layup line, and I said, like, Kentucky's gonna win by forty.
You know how sometimes you could just hell, it's just
the look test. Yes, well well well that and they
were selling depends at the concessions. You don't have to laugh.

(46:20):
Come on, Jeff, that was funny. That that was funny.
Stop it. But no, they they're up thirty nine thirteen,
So let's let's talk about some others. Look, I'm gonna
throw this at you, Jeff, and my bracket. I've got
Kentucky getting to the final game. Don't have them winning it,
but have them getting there. Am I crazy? No? Hell no,
hell no. Like everybody wrote him off after that first

(46:42):
game against Duke, but they still fit. Now they don't
have PJ. Washington tonither that's the craziest part. They're without
their best player one hundred at half against able Christian.
But if they get PJ back, and this is something
to be concerned about a little bit. He's in a
foot Now. I know anybody with any sort of foot
injury these days, they row a boot on you no
matter what. But they're gonna need him back at maybe

(47:06):
not even for the next game, although they get the
winner of Seton Hall Wofford who plays later tonight, and
that'll be a that'll be an interesting one. Whoever Kentucky
plays in that one. I think they can get by
either without him, but going forward, they're gonna need a
healthy PGA washing. They just fit together, Chris like they got.
They got a really good point guard who sets people
up in Ashon Hagins and defense. They got two wings

(47:28):
that are different two freshman Tyler Hero can really score it.
Kelvin Johnson is just that kind of glue guy, that
tough wing. And then you got two bigs with Red Travis,
who's a your transfer from from Stanford, and you got PJ. Washington.
They play well together, and you've got three guys off
the bench that know their role. How how important is

(47:51):
it for a coach cal to win another championship? He said,
so much talent, We get it. But he's only one one.
And I always say this, Jeff, anybody can win one.
The stars can a lie because Jim Behan has one,
so anybody can win one. But you know, to win
that second one? How important it is is it? For
with you? I'm with you, and I think Kentucky fans

(48:14):
are probably with you to some extent too. They want four, right,
and that one he got. If you look at it
with Anthony Davis and those guys, if Kendall Marshall doesn't
get hurt for Carolina and break his wrist in the
NCLUBA tournament, that he might not have that one, might
not have had that one, might not have had that one.
So yeah, I think with all the talent that's come in,

(48:34):
when you look at like Jay Wright's got two in
the last three years and Cal's got one in his
ten years at eleven years, I think at Kentucky it's
a little surprising. And again it's hard on one hand
because you've got to coach these guys up that you're
only gonna have one year. But every coach in the

(48:55):
country would love to be in that scenario. Let's be honest.
It's the eye Cowboy joint college basketball analyst Jeff Goodman
of Stadium Jeff. The star today is John morand Murray
State seventeen point sixteen assists eleven rebounds as they routed
the higher seeded the fifth seed at Marquette, Murray States
to twelve seed. Two questions for you on Moran one,

(49:18):
how far can he lead Murray State? And two, who
do you like better at the next level between John
Moran and RJ. Barrett, Because I think those two are
the ones that are going to be vying for that
second pick after Zion Williamson. Yeah, clearly, I'll start with
number two, and clearly it's one, Zion, two, and three

(49:42):
in some order. R James Jah. To me, it's Jah, Like,
I just think you need a high level point guard
in the league to have a chance to go deep
in the playoffs, right. I mean, there's no doubt RJ. Barrett.
He's the multi dimensional wing that a lot of guys
liking him the end. I think his shot is gonna
get better, but it's very inconsistent at this point. And

(50:04):
he plays bullyball. That's kind of his game. His game
has put it on the floor, get to the basket.
He's got unbelievable body control. When he gets around the hoop,
he can set people up. So he's got a versatile
game that the NBA guys love these days. That's what
they want, a versatile, multidimensional wing. But I would take
Joh ahead of him. I would. I just he's a

(50:26):
freak athlete. He's an elite passer, he's a capable defender,
he doesn't really want to defend yet. And again he's
a high character guy. Everybody you talk to around that kid,
they rave about him as a kid. So I would
take John Morant two at this point, RJ three, and
then there's a big, big drop off to me, there's

(50:48):
no number four. There's no number four right now, like
number four is wide open as far as I'm concerned.
Your your first question. They can be Florida State and
then they probably will. We go up against Gonzaga, and
I just think it'll be tough for a job against
a Gonzaga team that has so many weapons. They got everything.

(51:10):
I mean, Gonzaga's probably as well put together of a
team as there is in the country. And they've really
done it without killing Antilly, who's been hurt most of
the year, and he was a fringe first round pick
entering the season. Jeff, what about the crowd where you are?
I mean, I know college football's had problems with bowl games,

(51:30):
so many bowl games and a lot of empty arenas.
I can't tell because the camera's so tight. Is it
a sold out building? It wasn't great early. Obviously, Kentucky
fans start to fill it up. It's probably two thirds
full right now, but I think tomorrow. So I'm driving
after the last game tonight, I'm gonna drive halfway to
Savannah and then I'm gonna go to Columbia in the

(51:53):
morning and see the games there. And it's Virginian Duke.
I would assume wherever Duke is it's gonna be complete
sold out. So it really depends on the venue. I've
been at venues over the years that have been like
a quarter full. Wow. Just depends what teams you get
at these venues, Yeah, because they'd like to try to
spread it out so you get some some box office.
That's right, Jeff. Before we let you go, I know

(52:16):
you're plugged in with the Boston Celtics. What do you
think happens with Kyrie Irving in this summer? And how
worried are they in Boston that he might leave? They're worried,
as they should be, because, as you know, nobody has
a good handle on Kyrie. No fun. They can say
they do all they want, but unless you're in that

(52:38):
circle and there's not a lot of people in it,
you don't have a good feel for what Kyrie is
gonna do. You know, for me, it's hard for me.
And you know Kyrie too, I've known since he was
like fifteen. He's not a leader. I don't think he's
ever going to be a leader. You know. He walks
in that locker room and the air kind of comes
out of it. He's so talented, so talented. But I

(53:01):
think even judging by the response that Isaiah got when
he went back to Boston the other night, you saw
how much his teammates loved Isaiah. Why because he was
one of them. He was one of them, especially Marcus
Smart and Terry Rosier, Right, he was, he was one
of them. Yeah, kind of that that chip in their
shoulder type guy. Tyree's the opposite, you know, He's kind

(53:22):
of like Jimmy Butler now right. I mean those two
should have to play together, they should be forced to
play together. They are friends. Who knows what's what happens
this summer, But Jeff Goodman great stuff, appreciate the knowledge
as always. Anytime boy's good talking to him. Yeah, talk
to all right, Jeff Goodman from stadium. All right, we're

(53:43):
gonna get back into our discussion on Russell Westbrook is
his legacy taking a hit. I don't think his legacy's
taking a hit. I just think his style of play
is not going to win you a champion. I just
can't say that. You might be able to say that
and let it roll off your tongue at this point.
He plays so hard. He's such a competitive guy. I

(54:05):
think that when the time comes and the right pieces
are in place, he can win a champ. Kevin Durant
wasn't the right place. Well, Kevin Durant walked out. I'm
just saying that they ain't gonna get much better piece.
They went to the finals, Chris Let's. Everybody asks like
that didn't have the beating five. No, but if it
wasn't for the foul that they didn't call against Lebron, No,
you talk about the injuries or well the Lakers were,

(54:27):
they still lost foul he was found at the end
of the game. They would have been up to old game. No, no, no,
they should have won that. All I'm saying is that
they were already in the finals. Don't act like they
never got that. They can't get to the did I
say they couldn't get to the set? He can't win.
How you didn't say that, I didn't say the style

(54:47):
of play. Name one player that plays that style. I'm
just saying, I don't know. Can you name one? No,
the Detroit Pistons didn't have a champion, didn't have a superstar,
but they won a championship and you know who they
beat the Mighty Lakers with four potential Hall of famers.
Chris Bousso never brings that up. He always forget about that.
Why that There's been two teams in the history of basketball,

(55:09):
but they without this at a superstar. What's that mean?
I'm sure you picked. My point is that's nothing to
do with Russell. Sometimes upsets happened, That's my point. How
about the speaking strategy, you speaking, Oh, anything can happen. No,
I'm anything happened. I'm telling I'm giving you and I
love Westbrook. No, you don't. You said the championship. Can't

(55:32):
I'm saying he can't be an icon. Can't means unable
to everybody. I'm scamp means unable to That means you
can't walk on water. That's what can't mean. Look, man,
you might say maybe he can't. They talk to you
about English at ps at Columbia University Ivy League. Stop it.
I didn't go to I didn't go to a college
in the Cornfield. Hey, Cornfields. That's all right. I learned

(55:56):
a lot, all right. What the difference in college mayors
came out? I went there with mayors. What the difference
between mayors with the colleges. He learned the difference between
colonels and queen style undergrad. Don't make me bring up
your undergrad, na. You never bring that up. You know,
he's always just brings up Columbia Journalism School. You never

(56:18):
bring up your undergrad. Where'd you go? Southern Connecticut? Okay,
that's why you don't bring it up. All right. It's
the Eye Couple of Fox Wars Radio will be with you.

Rob Parker on a TV theme show. Thursday is of
Versus Sanford and Son, and we are coming to you

(57:02):
live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy
to say fifteen percent or more on your car insurance
with Geico. Go to Geico dot com or call eight
hundred nine four seven Auto. The only hard part is
figuring out which way is easier. And you heard us
on our last segment. It got heated because I had

(57:24):
to admit it. I love Russell Westbrook. He's an all
time great player. He will be an icon. People will
be talking about his feats decades from now, first ballot
Hall of Famer. But I have to admit he won't

(57:44):
win a championship. Alan Iverson didn't win the championship. Charles
Barkley didn't win a championship. Talk trick you and Carl Malon.
He's gonna in that class, which is fine, But what
do you think you saw? You heard Rod Parker give
his uh claim that I don't know what he was saying.

(58:09):
We don't know. He didn't give any logical reason, just
we don't know. I think that he's such. We don't.
We don't know that. Adding another play, We don't know anything.
He went to the finals. He's always had great players,
Kevin Durant. Now he's got Paul George. All right, what
do you think? Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox

(58:29):
eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Can russell Westbrook? Will he ever win a championship? What
are your thoughts on this? Here's my thing too, Rob.
I I'm fine with Westbrook never winning the championship. One
thing I love about him is that he's staying where

(58:51):
he's at at least he asked so far. He's not
just going to chase a ring. He is like, look,
I want to lead my team to a title. And
if he goes down swinging, I'm fine with it. I
like that type of courage, I like that type of fortitude.
I like that type of fight. So I'm fine with that.

(59:12):
If he never wins a ring, which he won't, then
that's okay because he went down swinging. Secondly, if you
ask me, would I rather be a superstar who's going
to be iconic, a going to be a first ballot
Hall of Famer, but who never wins a championship. Would

(59:35):
I rather be him? Or would I rather be say
Robert or a role player who's got seven rings, Steve Kerr,
a role player who's got five rings. I'll tell you
in a heartbeat, I would rather be that superstar Westbrook Barkley,
Ewing Iverson called Malone, No question about it. In my mind,

(01:00:02):
if you have star potential and ability, you want to
be a star. I'd rather average twenty five and take
my team to the conference finals several times and just
keep falling short, then to go average twelve or as
a role player somewhere and win a championship. So I'm
cool with Westbrook. If he never wins it, which I

(01:00:23):
don't think he will, it doesn't mean that because he doesn't,
he doesn't win, you're not great. So I'm with you
on that. I just think it's too early for you
to say he'll never win. Early like it's eleventh years.
There's plenty of god yeah, and what years Westbrook? In
guys played a long time, Kobe played twenty years. All
he has to do, it's about sixteen and old. All

(01:00:45):
he has to do is win. What not that old?
He came into the league in o eight oh nine,
so he's in what his seventh year out of year. Yeah,
let's get to the college eight seven, seven ninety nine
on five Low and Pennsylvania. Welcome to the Eye couple. Hey,
thank you, thank you. Appreciate you guys with the radio,

(01:01:07):
Thank you, Hey, guys. As far as the superstars or
the role players, there's definitely levels to it. But if
we're talking to Steve Kerr or Lacy McGrady or Charles Barkley,
I think it's clearly Charles Barkley or McGrady right right,
there are those that would rather be that role player

(01:01:29):
with all those rings. Not me, No, I don't see it.
You know, I get it. We're gonna be remembering that that.
We're not even bringing up the money aspect, right, what
money you making your career? But even when you talk
about Robert ry and we get a big shot Bob,
but he made a lot of big shots. He may

(01:01:50):
want against the Pistons, which I saw in Detroit. What
was that the second year right when they were trying
to win. He's playing for the Spurs and they could
That was was that when Rashid left left him? Yeah,
left him? Right? Richie went to double in the corner
and he noble passed a ball through his legs. Yeah,
they would have went back to back because if you

(01:02:10):
remember they went back that that was game five in Detroit,
they won Game six in San Antonio and then they
were up with four minutes to go and lost in
San Antonio. So they had a good shot to win that.
But I'm with you. I think while having all those
rings and making those shots, and being on a lot
of highlight wheels, being a star and and getting everything

(01:02:32):
that comes with that, to me is better, no question.
Let's go to Slade in Louisiana. Slave what part of Louisiana.
I just wanted to say that Russell Westbrook will always
be a legend. He will be left up to his
hype for when he retires, and he still has plenty
of years in his career to win a championship. He
does as We're right, He's he's a legend. He's gonna

(01:02:53):
be a legend, and he's not just gonna be even
Patrick un now you he's got the great college career
as well as the college he wasn't Yeah because of
the triple doubles. All right, let's go to h Luke
and Vegas. Rob can't read it with the he took
his bi focals off back on NAC in Vegas with
Chris and Rob. Rob always got some problem seeing straight.

(01:03:15):
So it's always, oh man, No, I love you Rob,
you guys all the time. You bucause a couple weeks
going and got you guys on a little bit of
Dirk Nevinsky talk. But I wanted to time in on
Westbrook here. I don't. I actually almost don't even think
he's going to be a legend because one thing that
you and and Barkley and those guys that you're talking
about her, they were ten times more efficient than Westbrook

(01:03:38):
is he needs Well they were a big man too.
What about Iverson? Man? Iverson was not efficient. No, I
neither was personal Pi. And it's my second favorite player
behind Dirt Nevsky because he's a little guy and I'm
not very tall. I've never been good at basketball. Basketball
is not my sport to play. So but yeah, he's
I don't think Westbrook is every gonna win a championship.

(01:03:59):
And without championship and you have low efficiency and you're
not and you're not a big man, you gotta be
able to make flash flash move and I don't don't
think he has that just to stay now. He might
say the league ten years and do it six, seven,
eight times. Then he could be like the big oh,
so he's done it three? How many more times? After?
They don't need to do it anymore. And Iverson was

(01:04:24):
not an efficient player. Neither was pistol Peat. Those are
two took forty shots for forty points and high in college.
Westbrook's better than pistol Peat. He really is. There's no
question about it. Call me up if you doubt it.
All right, it's the eye couple, Christ and Rob. We
will talk about Colin Kaepernick in this settlement that is

(01:04:46):
apparently a lot lower financially than we all thought. But
first let's bring in Steve the Sager for what's trendy. Hello,
halftime one seed in the westkin Zaga up fifty three
seventeen against fairly seventeen win and Kentucky a two seed
at a halftime lead of thirty nine thirteen against Abilene Christian.

(01:05:08):
Kentucky now up forty eight twenty five in the second half.
You know, Nevada was ranked in the top ten for
a lot of the season. Ranked in the top twenty
to finish the regular season. Nevada is losing by double
digits right now. Ten seed Florida Gators up fifty one,
thirty six in Nevada. They might be going down first
round in Des Moines right now, still about eleven minutes
to go, and Saint Mary's as a halftime lead on

(01:05:30):
Villanova in Hartford thirty to twenty eight. If they beat,
there's no way they beat in Villanois by twenty you
stop and go double or nothing. Let's go right now
double by twenty with DJ Typh, they're gonna win. I
want some of that. I want wings on that same
Saint Mary's. Don't give me by twenty fifteen, and I'll
both y'all be in the bed all right, twenty one.

(01:05:54):
I know he dropped it all. See you, you're not
in it now. No, you said you want a habit
of holding out of bets with me. Well, but you
said twenty and all of a sudden, when I said
I wanted now, there's more ride noted. I have nothing
to lose with Alex except my dinner at cross roads already,
old men, cross roads, I love you. That was subtle insult.

(01:06:18):
There No crossroads is great, I'm there, I'm all the time.
We still got four games coming up later tonight. By
the way, among the earlier games that went final, Murray
State got a triple double from John Morant, including sixteen
assists and seven turnovers his Russell Westbrook game, and they
beat Marquette eighty three to sixty four. Florida State eliminated Vermont, Minnesota,

(01:06:39):
and Michigan State each one. They'll play each other conference opponents.
They'll play each other Saturday. Michigan State did ripped him
in conference play. Michigan State's win was not that easy
the final, with seventy six sixty five over Bradley, but
the Spartans led by one point with about four minutes
to go. Michigan State on free throws went twenty five
for twenty six and won a close game. Maryland beat Belmont,

(01:06:59):
which had a call turnover late. LSU held on to
defeat Yale Kansas one easily over Northeastern. Auburn beat New
Mexico State seventy eight seventy seven. New Mexico State in
the final seconds missed two of three free throws. Our

Three items from baseball. The Saint Louis Cardinals are finalizing
a five year extension with All star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.

(01:07:40):
Given away money all over baseball. This guy has been
an All Star each of the last six years, and
it didn't take long to see this guy's career and think,
you know, he could finish top five in MVP most
every year for the first decade of his career. He's
that good, and the Diamondbacks traded him to the Cardinals.
In the offseason, Tampa Bay finalized a five year deal
a cell young winner Blake Snell, and the Mariners beat

(01:08:02):
the A's in twelve innings in Japan. Early this morning,
our time five four Eachiro Suzuki officially retired back to
the show in ten seconds, but first a word from

a lot, one exception being an airborne car. Seen it
covered it Doctor Farmers, we are Farmers underwritten my Farmers

Eleven minutes to go Florida Gators leading Nevada fifty one
thirty seven. Back to the couple, guys, Thank you, Steve,
appreciate a couple. We are brought to you by Truecar
because car shopping can be confused and they hit you
with terms like dealer, price list, price invoice. Truecar, however,
shows you what you really need to know, which is

(01:08:43):
what did other people pay for this exact same car.
That way you can recognize what's a good price and
what is a bad price. So when you're ready to
buy a new or use car, visit Truecar and get
your confidence up. All right. I was disappointed to read
this story, Rob because I pulled for Colin Kaepernick. I
want him back in the NFL. I like he's standing

(01:09:07):
up for those who haven't been able to stand up
for themselves, other American citizens. Uh. And I loved when
I saw reports that when he settled with the NFL
on his collusion lawsuit that he had gotten sixty seventy
eighty million. Who knew, Well, we didn't know what the

(01:09:27):
money right, but there was out there that it was
as high as sixty million or above. I never I
never knew exactly, so I wasn't hand it no, but
I thought it. I figured, hey, it must be close.
But now there's a report that just came out in
the Wall Street Journal that it was actually not only
the settlement for just Kaepernick but with Eric Read as well,

(01:09:50):
less than ten million dollars, which we know is a
great chunk of money, but relative from speaking he would
have made as a quarterback in the NFL, he would
be making seventeen eighteen million dollars a year, if not
more a quarterback of his ability. So we just want
to talk about that for a little while. We want

(01:10:11):
to bring in to speak on that with us uh
the host of the Suit Up podcast. He's also the
sports legal contributor for the Athletic It is none other
than Xavier Pope. Xavier Pope and with us City here
and when studio with x Xavier, thanks for joining us

(01:10:32):
right and he's also an NABJ member and a national
association and a contributor for Fox. I'm sorry for Forbes
dot com. Forbes dot com, so what do you what
are you making this story? I think that the most
important thing is how did this leak? This was if
this was so confidential, if we weren't supposed to know

(01:10:55):
what happened to get any judgment as to whether this
was too much or too little, why do we why
are we finding out about this? And if it's less
than what was speculated, how, how was how were those
numbers thrown out there? And based on what the numbers
were initially thrown out and this number, now, how does

(01:11:18):
that how the public perceive Colin Kaepernick? Right? It is
like a smear job, like to make it see like,
what did you do all that for? You didn't get
any money? That's that's why. That's that's why I think
people throw out a high number, then the real number
comes out right you put on You think that was
done purpose? I think that there could be a chance
that we just put out the leaks. Yeah yeah, not

(01:11:39):
the reporters that put it out, but they put it
out there and then people went, wow, they had a
cash ban. It does feel like that's it lost. It
feels like it lost. It feels like it makes you
feel like, why did he give up the case? You know,
why did he settle just for ten million, which isn't
what he would have gotten had he been playing in
the league. If he was gone through the grievance, he

(01:12:04):
could have been paid up to say, ninety million dollars,
three times the value based on what he could have
received in the collusion grievance. So it was interesting that
that number was even floated out. That was sixty eighty ninety.
That was closer to what he would have won had
taken all the way that that number was speculated to
be really higher than what it should have been anyway,

(01:12:25):
it should have been some number that was a little
bit less than that. But that being said, there is
a remedy. If it was determined that the NFL leaked this,
you get, that's the violation of the contract that they signed,
And in that contract itself could spell out what those
damages could be for violating the contract if it leaked.

(01:12:45):
So that's something to pay attention to. So this leak
is just as important as the amount that Colin Kaepernick
was paid. I still look at it from this damn pot.
It doesn't take away what he was able to what
he wanted to do, which was in a cops not
absolutely not right. I think you gotta be real careful
with just putting a monetary. What this guy did was

(01:13:05):
give up his career when he was most vulnerable and
did something that he believed. So so from that standpoint,
I won't look at it and go, oh, I only
got peanuts and they shouldn't have done this. I don't know. Uh,
And you're a better suit at this because you're an attorney,
But I don't know how hard it is to win
a suit, a collusion suit, if you don't have a document,

(01:13:27):
if you don't have a phone conversation collusion. It's tough.
But the NFL did go through and settle, and a
lot of fans that were aren't making fun of Colin
Kaepernick for not getting enough money, they didn't think he
would get any anything, right, you would say, they said
he couldn't play anymore. That's why it wasn't in the league.
You won't give a guy any money if that was

(01:13:50):
really the case. Exactly. So there's something to be said
about one thing. I felt, Xavier when they settled forget
the money. When they settled, I felt like, Okay, A
lot most people were saying he won't be back in
the league, and it looks like they're probably right. I
was saying, Okay, I expect him to be back in
the league. Like, if you settled, well, I ain't talking

(01:14:11):
about his ability. He's good enough too, obviously. But if
you settled, then isn't there sum admission that yeah, we
colluded the NFL. Why would they settle if there was
no no? But there's a lot of cases they might
have colluded. I get that, other emails and all the
texts that they didn't want other stuff out there. Why
is he not like in the league? If you settled

(01:14:34):
a collusion case, I would think he should be in
the league. You did hear his attorney, Mark Garrigos, who
represented also Eric Reid, state that they're potentially maybe that
was where you can go. This is right after the settlement,
remember well, I mean he said, within a week or two,
you're gonna be hearing about Carolina and New England. Yeah.
Here's another thing though, in settlement, I think you're still colluding.

(01:14:57):
I mean, if they good enough to be in the NFL,
I agree but but, but sometimes in settlements the parties
agree or the parties paying out that they don't agree
or they don't accept, or what's the right there? You
don't guilt, but you are stepped in there with something there. Well,
but you're paying right, you're saying something there, But you say,

(01:15:18):
we're not We're not right. We're not agreeing that we
did anything wrong, but we will pay a settlement. But
there's nothing that states that part of this agreement was
Colin Kaepernick will never play in the National Football Football
League ever again though, ran Ran, I'm saying they're still colluding.
I agree with you, Chris, I agree he should be
in the NFL absolutely, all right. Thank you, Xavier, great

(01:15:41):
legal knowledge. We appreciate so much for Forbes dot Com.
Also check out his Suit Up podcast. That's like culture,
tell us about that. Yes, it's a new news magazine
program that covers the business, law, wider society impact of sports,
mixed with music, style and culture. Now, how you do
to close on radio? That's the thing on there. On podcasts,
you gotta always show up, man. So music, all right,

(01:16:03):
what's your favorite type of music? I love hip hop obviously, Okay,
Top five Top five ever Ye that are are out
right now? I love not well Kendrick period. Kendrick right
now is going for the goat. Every project has been
a classic. Think about him comparison to other artists. There
have been nas you know, had a couple of albums

(01:16:24):
that really weren't that great. Not every jay Z album
has been great. Every Kendrick Lamar album has been great.
How many is that? Now? This is four albums by
Kendrick plus the other projects he's been involved with. The
Black Panther Project, I was a great album, the untitled
that was good. Nope. Yeah, a goat though. No, he
must be twenty seven. I think he's older than that. Yeah,

(01:16:47):
but I mean I recognize salad when I here for sure.
All right, thank you, Exavier Pope. He's thirty one. All right,
you're still a young guy, though, what man, you could
be my son. Oh wow, I'm not trying to sund you.
I'm just saying. I'm saying I am trying to say.
I'm not trying. You could be robbed. Grand up. That's brual.

(01:17:10):

Now this this is a TV theme song. Come on now,
we don't have to sing it every week? Man? Come
on you are you? Are you a start like inside you?
You really a comedy singer? No? No, no, because you
just want to sing every song. Come on, Chris, who

(01:17:56):
sang this anyway? We're Loana, Let's keep it that way.
But the kid joan a bean. Don't burn on the grill.
I only trying. I just to get up that hill
now in the big leagues. Get not turn that bad.
As long as we live, it's you with me better?

(01:18:16):
It ain't nothing wrong with that? Where are we're moving
on now? Number one sitcom song? You like that? I
love that. It's the eye couple of Chris and Rob.
And it's time for shop talk. Anybody ain't stump you
know that? Ain't nobody you talk about? Whoever? Whatever, whatever
you want to shop talking. All right, Ran, here's what

(01:18:41):
I want to talk about, the shop talking. Does your
see my wife is not a sports fan at all
at all. You have to be a an icon Michael
Jordan and Magic Johnson, that's about it. And Tom Brady
that's it. You gotta be that big for her to know.
She was in the dance And you know in the

(01:19:02):
book she's a smart woman's smart. She's a medical doctor.
But she her extracurricular was dance. She was a dancer.
And so we had, believe it or not, we've watched
in our twenty three years, almost twenty four years of marriage,
we have watched one game, sat down and watched one
game together and that was the Super Bowl that Brady

(01:19:24):
just won. Wow. And up until then we had never
sat down and watched the gaming. And it doesn't bother me.
She opened me up to going to Broadway shows and
dance recitals, you know, Alvin Alien stuff like that, and um,
you know we just we we we don't. We don't
have sports in common, but it works right now, moms,

(01:19:45):
your spouse does a spouse have to you know, like
sports for you? Now? My wife, ex wife, now, she
did love sports and we went to a lot of games.
In fact, we had New York Islanders season tickets. Were married. Wow,
took it to a hockey game. She got hit in
the face with a puck. But that's another story. No,
I'm just kidding. But when we went to games when

(01:20:08):
we were married and lived in New York, we used
to go to a Mets like one metal Yankees game
a week, have dinner at the ballpark. She loved to
be outside, loved to go to games, uh and stuff
like that. But um, it wasn't like but it wasn't
but it did. It wasn't like she had to like
that stuff that we had to. She just happened to

(01:20:28):
enjoy that a part of your attractions. She was beautiful.
That was really. It wasn't about her wanting to go
to the baseball game with me. Well, Xavier, Xavier Pope
is still here with this. What are you malad if
you're you married? Since you're married, did your wife in
well you not a sports writers necessarily, but right now, okay,

(01:20:51):
so she is she into, you know, not at all,
not at all, doesn't care, doesn't want to watch one
second of a game. So y'all, y'all like, yeah, you
know what else, My wife ain't in the hip hop either.
I love hip hop. Hip hop is my favorite type
of mute. My wife's more into jazz, R and B,
so like that. Yeah, but what about you, especially working

(01:21:12):
in sports in sports media, it's nice to be away
from that. So I do not It's not a requirement
for me that the girl has to be into sport, Alex,
how about you? Absolutely not. I would love my wife
to not be a liquor sports fan. Really does she
have to be a vegan? Not even that, not even that,
so she could be eating stay whatever she wants. Yeah,

(01:21:33):
I'll cook it for her. If I'm cooking that night.
I got for myself. I don't need for other people, mister, say, girl,
all right, how about you and your wife? It's she
is obviously not to the degree that I am a
sports fan. But I will say, being in this business,
it absolutely helps that she appreciates sports or appreciates what
I do. So if I'm out of a game or whatever,
she gets it. Yeah. Yeah, my wife does appreciate what

(01:21:56):
I do. She doesn't belittle it at all, but she's
just not into it and hip hop right, she likes
hip hop right, Well, you know some women you know
don't appreciate it, and then they're rolling their eyes at
their spouse. It doesn't work out. Hey, give me a
Steve No no, oh she is wow. Okay. Fox Sports

It is the I couple. I'm Chris, he is Robbing.
We're coming to you live from the Guy Coo Fox

(01:22:39):
Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent
or more on your car insurance. It is kind of
like a holiday up in here, up in here because
it is the NC Double A Tournament, Day one, and
I think it's been great, Rob, I think it's been
some great action. Michigan State, the number two seed was

(01:23:03):
taken to the wire by Bradley. Bradley, number fifteen seed
Auburn almost got beaten by New Mexico State. New Mexico State.
The guy missed the wide open three pointer actually air
baught it at the buzzer. So that was an exciting game.
And the guy that to me thus far has stolen

(01:23:27):
the show is none other than Job Morant, Murray State
point guard sixty three. A lot of people may know
him for his crazy dunks. You think Zion's doing some dunks,
which he is, right, Job Morand's doing some crazy dunks
as well. He's gotten everybody's attention. Oh right, seventeen points,
must see, sixteen assists, eleven rebounds in a route of

(01:23:54):
the fifth seed. Who they beat? Murray State was the
twelfth seed. They beat the fifth seed, Mark Warriors. Are
they still the Warriors? I don't know what they're Marquette
Golden Eagles, Golden Eagles, Marquette Golden Eagles, fifteenth they beat
them by they routed them, They routed them and put up.

(01:24:16):
Here's might be the best thing about his line? What
was the seventeen shot? Five for nine? He's a point guard.
He's a real points twenty five points, twenty five points
in tennis. That's sufficient. That'll get to us some scouts
attention right there. He's the truth man. So I was
excited and uh pleased with what I saw. But there
are all some blowouts, and you know you get that
as well during this tournament because there's some teams playing

(01:24:38):
what is that Gonzaga is destroying Fairlee Dickinson seventy four
to thirty eight as we speak, and Kentucky is winning
what's seventy seven forty three over Abilene Christian And they
might be atheists after this game. That was why I

(01:25:01):
thought of why I might like that one. I'm trying
to I'm trying to work for your entertainment dollar. No good,
I'm impressed. I'm impressed. You can read the score. I
can see, I said, I'm impressed. The glasses I'm calling
them by vocals? Are they not buy vocals? They're glasses,
they're reading glasses. I don't want you can't even your feelings.

(01:25:25):
You can't even getting this feelings, can't even tell Should
I just call them glass? Because you you getting your
feelings on the dough? I'm not Can I call it?
I can't joke with you about to buy Volks. Oh,
I'm just saying that line. You can't see that. It's
like a freaking line on the highway, man, That's like
the yellow line on the highway. Whatever. I see it, Yeah,

(01:25:47):
I see it. Like you don't have to be up close.
It's like you can't see it, can't you? Whatever this
is radio, and they can see it. They can see it,
then I'll pronounced that line, Kevin, that's funny. Now, DJ
tischert if y'all haven't figured out he's not. He's a

(01:26:08):
sports fan. But I wouldn't say Avid, right? Is that fair?
That's okay? Not that's assumption? Is it right? That's true? Okay,
here's how bad of a sports fan he is? Okay?
You had Bell my reaching the final lois in the
Saint Mary's. It had the audacity to bet me. He

(01:26:29):
just want to have dinner with you. It can just
can't be about plus if I want to have dinner
with him, I would have made the bet. He's the
one making the bet, did you, pig Bell? Of course
I made the bet. It was easy money. It was
an easy meal. That's that's stealing. Take advantage of him, Chris, Yes,
what what kind of a Christian man are you to
take advantage of your brother? This is what kind of

(01:26:51):
a Christian man I am? I said to him before
we made the bet. I said no, I said, did
you know? I said, you know, this is like betting
that the Clippers are about to win the NBA. Say
that right? I did say that, and Alex okay, and
he still insisted on the bets. I think he did
just want to just want to go out. Y'all were
supposed to go off for a long time, about two years.

(01:27:14):
So this is the way. Now we're gonna do it.
We're gonna do its double or nothing. Sy's looking good
right now. We bet that Villanova was trailing Saint Mary's
at halftime. I bet that Villanova would come back and
win by twenty At least. You wouldn't take that bet
with me. As soon as I put my hand out,
He's just fifteen because I had nothing to look with

(01:27:35):
with Alex's double or nothing, so I'd have nothing to
lose you on the only wing, so that you would
only two set to one wings. I want the Lakers. No,
don't know about the Lakers. What was the bet after that? No,
that was it. It was something bad after we've been
winging that you don't even remember you make any wing beats.
Martin told me about you too, He said, I said,

(01:27:56):
how in the world just robbed? Keep up with all
the bets he makes you? He said, he said, you
only remember the ones you won, And I think that's true.
What are you saying about one one. What is it
we bet something? No? But the last one we bet
was about the about the Lakers making the playoffs. So
you remember that bet? No? I remember that one, but
I think we bet one and nothing's been done since then?

(01:28:19):
What what footballssibly? No, I'm not a levieran bettle. You
bet we bet that he wouldn't get I bet he
wouldn't get tied Gurley money. He got sixty one. Non
stop it stop this contract Girly got. Firly got sixty
and guaranteed. We didn't bet it has twenty five. We
didn't bet about the guarante day before the contract is

(01:28:42):
only the gut? Can we talk about college basketball today?
So we're even. Let's talk about it, so we're even
all right? Tell me what are your thoughts? I look,
I think it's been a good day one. I'm really
excited about tomorrow. Obviously you got Duke and to me,
to me, I'm like, I'm an appointment television when it
comes to the NCAA. I'm not saying that when I

(01:29:02):
get home tonight, I won't put it on. But I'm
not like glued unless I see there's a good game
going on now Tomorrow Once I get home and I'll
look at some of the games that come on later.
I'll look and go, yeah, I want to see if
it's a good team that I want to see, then
I'll turn that game on. But I don't. I'm not
like I'm gonna watch anything no matter what. And obviously
there's a lot of blowouts going on, so I think

(01:29:23):
most people turn and look for something that's more competitive. Well, right,
would you want? The blowouts are hard to watch, especially
early on. But if you're a fan of that team,
I wonder if you just like enjoy every moment of it. Yeah,
I think if you're a fan, they probably do. But
my strategy is this, I'm watching it. I pick, you know,
there may be what four games on it once, four
or five games. I pick which everyone intrigues me the most,

(01:29:47):
and I watch that and they have the scores on
the top of the screen, which I love, and they
tell you what channel they're on. So when I see
a close game with you know, six or five, four
or three minutes left something like that, then I go back.
I go to that game automatically. That's what I do.
And it's great because you get to see like I

(01:30:09):
got to see Auburn sweat against New Mexico State. I
got to see Michigan State sweat against Bradley, and then
I could turn back and see John Morant do his
thing when when those games were over. So I think
I love the fact that they're putting all these scores
up there and the station. I guess the TV does help,

(01:30:32):
you know what I mean. Like there's a lot of
information up on the screen as I try to watch
the game. But I guess if you're like looking around
for something better than what you have it on, it
does help. I see the TV, like right now, Villanova's
up seven. If I'm watching Gonzaga, they're blowing him out
by thirty eight. I'm saying, you know, at ten and
a half minutes left, Villanova's only up seven. But I

(01:30:53):
actually stay going in Nevada. I'm going to Nevada, Florida.
You would stay on that game, that's the game that's
on this TV. I would stay here because it's only
four and it's only a minute and a half left.
So I watched the completion of that and then I
hopefully could then by that time it's only six minutes
left in the Villanova, right and then you watch the
end of that if it's not a blowout, and then
by the time that's over, you know, maybe another game.

(01:31:16):
So you work good. Did you ever take off or
were you that kind of got to take off or
obviously we work in sports, so we're not there's no
taking off for us. But did you ever when you
were maybe in college or something, go with buddies to
a sports bar, get some beers, get some wings and uh,
I don't want to age at myself, but think when
we were in college, it was a different ball game,

(01:31:37):
you know, well there was only one shot that everything
wasn't knowing, No, but every you know what I mean,
every I don't remember every game. No, it wasn't like
being different. Pre cable, Well, it wasn't that far ago.
That was in college. That was when you were in college.
Well that's not me. That's when cable was in when
I was in college, that's what's it. That was the

(01:31:58):
first time I saw a cable was in. Really, so
you grew up your whole life with the three stations.
I do remember ESPN when they would just show equestrian racing,
football they had no rights to anything. And then I
think that Sports Center was about only thing that original programming. Yeah,
top ranked boxing was good. I like that. But but

(01:32:21):
I'll tell you what A few years ago, rob the
NCUBAA tournament, I realized I was like because you know,
I was covering the NBA as a beat writer, so
I didn't have as much time to really follow college
like I used to, and I didn't know a lot
of the players, and it was a lot of time.
It was during when players could leave high school and
go straight to the pros or at the very least

(01:32:43):
after one year, so most of the best players college
aids were already in the NBA, and I didn't know
a lot of the college kids, but I still was
into the tournament. It taught me that, you know what,
no matter what, I don't care if ten years from
now there are changes in the rules and all these
best top college a's players are either in the NBA

(01:33:06):
or the G League, because the g lead's gonna be
paying money, the March madness will still be awesome because
it's just the urgency. It's that's all it is. It's
an urgency. If I said to you, name the three moments,
or even one or two, if you come up with
it that you remember from March Madness. What would it
be like that that that's stuck into your One of

(01:33:27):
them is Michael Jordan's shot. I was in the eighth grade,
nine eighty two. I was sick, I had a cold,
and I was laying in the band watching the game.
I had been home all day and Michael Jordan and
UNC North Carolina was playing Georgetown nineteen eighty two NCAA Championship,
and I remember the announcers talking. I had heard about Jordan,

(01:33:50):
but they were talking about how, you know, it's so
rare for freshmen to start at North Carolina and this
kid's really good, but he wasn't the start. They had
James Worthy and Sam Perkins on that team, so he
wasn't the star. And you know, that game came down
to the last moments and you wouldn't see is down
by a point and Jordan's UNC is running to play.

(01:34:14):
They got James Worthy All American First Team and everybody's
thinking it's gonna go to Worthy. They got Sam Perkins
there and Michael Jordan gets it on the left wing
and takes I don't know, a fifteen foot There wasn't
even a great jump shooter at that time. Fifteen footer
before the ball went through the net. I remember thinking

(01:34:37):
to myself, this dude's gonna be the truth, really, just
for taking the shot. When you got American upperclassman on
your team and on the in the championship. I know
it wasn't drawn up for him, and Dan spitched your
coach and you taking that shot, and he hit it
and they won the game. But yeah, that's when I thought, Oh,

(01:34:59):
he's I'm gonna be the real deal. There are three
that stand out to me. And Keith Smart beating Syracuse
on that shot, jumps shot right that beats uh, Indiana
beat Syracuse. That was a great shot. I always remember that.
Then there's a Christian Latner's shot right that was that
was at the meadow Lands. I think it was that
thing right it was It was at Brendan Burner pass

(01:35:22):
right Granhill duel and he made this unbelievable three quarter
court shot. Uh, the three quarter court pass right and
then the shot right, and then he turned around and
made the shot right. Gran Hill makes a perfect pass.
And then the other one, which is when I was
a kid. But the bird magic matchup that that that
always was iconic, always stuck out to me. So those

(01:35:43):
are the ones that I always felt like, yeah, stick
in my head. I'm probably missing someone. NC State, right
the shot I remember that beating Houston on that air
ball by Derek Wittenberg and then Lorenzo Charles called to
back in. Um, yeah, a Villanova stalling and beating uh Georgetown.
If you had one moment, if I had, I would

(01:36:07):
say Jordan, And if I had one, I think I
would um, I think the key smart one. Yeah, no,
that was like that. All right? What is your one moment?
What's your one shining moment? Yeah, like like from from
the championship championship shotment, just play shot whatever, Mario Chalmers,

(01:36:29):
maybe when he beat Kentucky. But what is your most
memorable NC double A tournament moment. It's your chance to
weigh in eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight
seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. We'll
continue this conversation with you. Next, it's The I Couple

great paint job. Go into Mako today and get your

is of course a TV theme show Thursday with the
Odd Couple. But we're going about to get to you
on the phone lines. What is your greatest moment, your
greatest memory of the NCUBAA tournament. Let's start with the

(01:37:55):
sony where in Atlanta where you're on with Chris and Rob. Hey,
what's going on? Fellers up and following you guys on
ESPN's It's awesome to you guys, grind mean, I appreciate
what you guys did. Man, We appreciate, no doubt what
you got. My biggest moment I was in the tenth
grade at the time when Ray Allen hit the game,
when the shot on Alon No Hobson. Oh yeah, I

(01:38:21):
think the score was seventy four. Seventy four. Um, I
forgot what the pump vote for Dukonie came down Ray
and came acrosss got the ball and I was the
matched up on him. Git a ridiculous shot man, and
that's where he had him, was wearing the Jodan con chord.
You guys remember that, yep, yep, And I was a
big matchup AI against ray Allen, That's right. And then

(01:38:41):
Ray Allen would go on to save Lebron Bake. Lebron
James is baking. Late years later, he's taken. He tries
to take Lebron's titles away. What I'm not I'm not
all right. Let's go to Michael and Syracuse you on
the odd couple Fox Sports Radio. What you got, Michael,
hey Fellas, you want to talk about one shiny moment

(01:39:02):
hockey work, making the block against Malcolm Lee to secure
the championship for SU and Jim bay Hud. Yeah, that
was a big one. That was when Carmelo Mello went crazy. Yes, yeah,
year him and Jimmy McNamara, Yes, McNamara the little guard, right,
was he there a point guard? Yeah, he was knocking

(01:39:23):
down a lot of three. But I thought he was
the point guard. Yeah, he had the ball a lot.
All I appreciate its only title. And you don't think
he's a good coach, No, I don't, I don't. He's
a legend, though, he is a legend. Let's go to
cow and two. Okay, what's going on? Fellas? Thank you? Hey.

(01:39:46):
So it's not so much of a moment. It was
just the actual entire game, the nineteen ninety UNLV game
against Duke, and I was fourteen years old, and they
was out there and then they all, you know, Larry
Johnson with the gold too, every time he grabbed you,
bounty selling Adam and Moses story coming off the bench
and yelling at folks. They just loved watching them beat

(01:40:06):
them up and down the court. You definitely hate Duke,
right because generally you want a close game, nah, but
they want to do right. That was the one where
people want to Duke to get there. It was almost
a cultural It was type things almost that was like, Hey,
Larry Johnson had the gold too. I was like, the
what you called too? You know, the Larry bird magic

(01:40:27):
was a rating as well. But that was really really
I was living in Indiana, were you? And I was
pulling from Michigan State. Were you? Yeah, look at you.
I was living in Indianapolis, Indiana that year. And I'm
sure when you watch the game, you had your Daschiki
on right, Yes, and my Koufi as well. Let's go
to JJ in Indiana and JJ with Chris and Rob. Chris, Rob,

(01:40:49):
your show was fired. That's f I y he appreciate you,
guys man, thank you. What part of Indiana you in
Montina at the home of the ball State Colonels. There's
a couple of shining moments. I know you remember the
ball say Carlin gets the UNLV running rabs in that
channel of Thompson high flying foot back. Yes, but what
I what I wanted to point out I heard a

(01:41:11):
Syracuse fan earlier, how about the keep smart shot that's down.
That's Rob's favorite, That's that's that's my favorite memory. That
was an awesome shot to win the game. I know
people in Indiana will never forget that. Keeth Smart never
have to pick up a tab anywhere. Yeah, that was
one of those. How about Bill and MISSOI Missouri, I

(01:41:33):
should say you're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Hey guys. For me, it's a it's more of a
run than a moment. But I think he's back in
twenty fourteen and Kentucky made that run there and Harrison
has had like three game winners in a row. The
deep freeze from the wing. Yeah, I remember had mentor
Shabaz Napier, they might have been able to pull that
one off for the one of those has been a
great run. That was a great run. Yeah, yeah, now

(01:41:55):
that was a good one. Let's go to Jonathan in Indiana.
We got a lot of indie callers this uh segment. Jonathan,
you're on with Chris and Rod. Hey, guys, I love
listening to your radio show. I'd work every night listening
to you guys every night. Thank you. He wanted to say, Uh,
Duke and Butler a few years back and I think
twenty ten, Gordon Hayward missing a half course shot. I

(01:42:18):
played AAU basketball for years with Gordon Hayward for Spec
in the heat and I'm a Duke fan. So I
was kind of torn, but I believe Blue for the Dukies.
So so you really so? Um so how good was Gordon? Like?
Are you surprised that he reached the heights that he did? Absolutely? Um,
he's always been I mean I played against Jennings and

(01:42:41):
Drows and all those guys growing up, But Gordon Hayward
was only always the smartest guy on the floor. Always short, skinny,
didn't grow until later on in high school. But he's
always been extremely smart. IM a good shooter, made the
right play every single time. Um. He's a big believer,

(01:43:01):
he's he's got strong faith. So I think God really
just blessed him. Wow. Good college Johnson, no doubt. Let's
go to Tony in Washington. Tony, you're on with Chris
and Rob. Hey, how are you doing? Guys? Doing great?
How are you? I'm doing great? Hey, this such a
great moment. But I was thinking about the one with

(01:43:22):
Chris Weber the time out. Oh no, that's a big
moment in college basketball history. Don't huge moment in college basketball? You?
You probably? I can you tell the story of college
basketball without mentioning that in the story, But that gets
in there at some point. Yeah, that's not the right moment. Yeah,

(01:43:46):
that was like Fred Brown passing the ball in North Carolina?
Was it worthy? Right? Just keeps just throwing the ball.
Oh yeah again in the game when Jordan hit the shot. Yeah,
that was one of those moments. How about James in Texas.
You're in the O but Fox Sports Radio, James, what
you got yo? Man, I'm watching the video right now.
If Kimba a step back against UM, what's that um Pittsburgh?

(01:44:10):
I called the step back hurt around the world. I
was impression. Yeah, yeah, that's a good one. That is
you see him go ahead, he had, he had an
unbelievable run. He did is underrated then what he is now?
Didn't it start in the Big East Tournament? Yes, yeah, room,
yeah yeah. And I hope to see him with Lebron
next year. That's that's the that's the guy I want

(01:44:30):
to see with Lebron. All right, are they gonna make
the playoffs? Kim Ben? Lebron be interested. Kimba is a
little underrated, but he's not in that first tier point
second tier, second tier. Yeah, he's probably he's good, but
I agree with you. Let's go to Less in Orlando.
Less you're on with christ and Rob. What's up? Chris

(01:44:52):
loves you guys, man man less, thank you, man, appreciate
the support. Yeah, man, you guys remember this John Wallace
and su is like by the mid late thanks. Oh yeah,
get a three point shot, you know Cloma in the
final four to go to the championship day yea yeah.
And his stock roll his well he did. He got
drafted like lower than people expected in the turn India

(01:45:15):
draft the eighteenth or something. He fell. I remember that
he felt well about that. Four and a half a
year or three. They were down by one. So I came,
that's well, you'll never forget that last with a cover
right there. You you get that all right, it's the
eye couple. We will continue with trolling and rolling with

(01:45:39):
Martin Weiss, but first let's bring in Steve to Sager
for the latest in sports. Steve, gentlemen, and you have
had some great, great nominees. You mentioned the Indiana State
Michigan State game. Yes, that is still the highest rated
NCAA final of the last forty years. I believe it.
I looked up the number a couple of years ago.
The National Champion and Ship game got twenty three million viewers.

(01:46:02):
That one got thirty five million. That will never be
but that's what we already had. No big no, I
will not six channels back then three good ones channels
or whatever. Also, I remember that Duke Kentucky Latener game

(01:46:22):
from nineteen ninety two at the end of the century
that was voted the greatest NCAA Tournament game ever. Just
for the record, it was a classic which one to
burn magic No the late shot at the Kentucky class
nineteen ninety two. As for the games that have just
gone final, Nevada is out ranked in the top twenty
every week this season. They lose in the first round

(01:46:44):
of the NCAA's to the Florida Gators seventy to sixty one.
Florida was up eighteen early in the second half and
held him off. Easy wins for Gonzaga and Kentucky. Zag's
win eighty seven forty nine over Fairleieh Dickinson. Kentucky's win
was seventy nine forty four against Abilene Christian. Villanova was
down to at the half to Saint Mary's, but now
with under two minutes left, Villanova is leading fifty seven

(01:47:07):
fifty one. Coming up in fifteen minutes Michigan against Montana.
In fact, we have four late games still to come. Earlier,
Florida State and Murray State gut wins. Murray State eliminated
Marquette eighty three sixty four. John Morant with a triple double.
Michigan State in Minnesota each one. They'll face each other Saturday.
LSU and Maryland with victories, and Kansas and Auburn gut wins.

(01:47:29):
The Auburn victory was seventy eight seventy seven over New
Mexico State. In the NBA, Denver has won its fifth
straight game one thirteen, one oh eight at Washington. The
Nuggets second in the Western Conference. Coming into tonight, we're
a half game behind the Warriors, who do play the
late game in an hour, hosting Indiana. The Saint Louis
Cardinals are finalizing a five year extension with All star

(01:47:49):
first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. The guys are back in ten seconds,
But first a word from Farmers at Farmers Insurance. We
know a roof can withstand a lot, one exception being
an airborne are seen it covered it, doctor Farmers, We
are underwritten my Farmers truck Fire Insurance exchanges and affiliates
products unavailable in every state. So you named some great

(01:48:10):
ones for the NCAA. So I'll name one that hasn't
been named. All right, two thousand and six UCLA's last
minute comeback against Adam Morrison and Gonzaga outscored him seven
nothing in the final minute. Ucla, remember, had only been
to the final four once in all the decades since
John Wooden, and this started three straight final fours. They
got Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, all of that and farm

(01:48:32):
remember high as Edney. No, that was ninety five. This
is if I remember that Adam Morrison, he quite like
a baby on the court, Remember quite like a baby
when they lost? Yeah, I do remember that Ni and
Michael Jordan drafted him. Yes, I was not a good one.
All right, Thank you, Steve. It is the eye couple

(01:48:52):
of Chris Bruce ar Rob Parker and we're coming you
live from the Guy Coo Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's
easy to say fifteen percent or more in your car
insurance with Geico. Go to Geico dot com or call
eight hundred nine for seven auto. The only hard part
is figuring out which way is easier. And it is
time for trolling and rolling. Martin will Tom Brady, He's done.

(01:49:18):
Aaron Rodgers did not have a Pro Bowl season, trying
to kiss me, riding, it's trolling or rolling? What up, though, guys,
it's trolling or rolling. Martin wiss, I'm trolling that robson
state what time? Aaron Rodgers twenty five and two wasn't
a Pro Bowl season, but it wasn't all right. Vers

(01:49:40):
were worse than Brady stopping. Can we get on with it?
I'll read three stories. If you guys like it, you
hear the roll sounds. Now if they don't, you hear
the troll sounds. Oh man, hey, hey, hey, hey hey,
So let's get to it. Boston Celtics guard Terry Rosiero
was a guest on Fair Game on FS one and

(01:50:00):
was asked what comes to mind when you hear Joel ebid.
Terry's response lame well. Last night, after Philly beat Boston
and embats thirty seven points to twenty two rebounds, Joel
posted a picture on Instagram with him flexing after a
dunk with Terry Roe, with Terry Rozier in the background.
He even tagged a location as Lametown, Chris, Boston has

(01:50:23):
owned Philly the last few meetings until now, are you
trolling or rolling with themb I'm trolling him, b oh Man.
I love his charisma. I usually love his trash talk.
But this was like the third or fourth time they've
beaten Boston in like twenty games or something like that.
Boston has owned you when it mattered four games to

(01:50:45):
one last year in the playoffs. You won on the
last second shot on your home court. So you gotta
beat Boston in the playoffs before you start ripping him
in talking trash trolling. I'm trolling as well. Man. Hey, hey,
that's who embat is, right, I mean, I'm not expecting

(01:51:07):
him to change. That's who he is. And you know
when you're rolling, No, yeah, you're rolling, SA go through that.
Don't put me out there trolling rolling a couple of

(01:51:29):
Fox Sports Radio trying again to go to number two.
That's where I'm going. You can't use men. Didn't end
the season the way he wanted to, with Carolina losing
five of his last six games and him getting shoulder surgery,
well Cam took the phrase new year, new meat to heart.
He went on James Gordon's late night show last night

(01:51:49):
and said he was giving something up each month and
gave up betting for January. He went vegan in February
and for March. Well, for March, Cam gave up quote climax, Rob,
are you trolling or rolling with Cam? I'm trolling? Oh, Man, Hey, Hey, hey,

(01:52:11):
hey hey. I know everybody wants to believe that all
this stuff is going to help about as we go forward.
I'm not so convinced. I watched last year. I know
he was partially hurt, but he hasn't been the same
since the Super Bowl. I'm just not convinced, even with
all the stuff he's talking about, that he's going to
return to that MVP season in fifteen and one. Yeah,

(01:52:34):
I'm with you, Rob, I'm trolling Cam oh giving up
the climaxident March. The season starts in September. You know
that was always what you said with athletes the night
before you don't get with your wife, a woman and
all that. If he said he was giving that up
on the night before a game, even though I don't
think that's true, but maybe then I'd roll with him.

(01:52:56):
But it's man, the seasons many months away. What does
watch have to do with it? Why are you doing
it now. And you know what, I would just have
an impact next season. All I'd say is switched hands.
That's all he did, Just have soldier show. I didn't
even like that one man. You this is a family
radio show, mister Parker co three box Sports Radio number three.

(01:53:25):
What okay? The three baseball seasons around the corner and
the Toronto Blue Jays are laying down new laws. Now.
I know you guys are old, but have you ever
heard of Fortnite? It's the game that everyone under the
age of twenty five is playing on their phone. Does
when I come after Thursday? Of it? Yes, I've heard

(01:53:47):
of you. Well, the Toronto Blue Jays, I've had enough
Fortnite in the workplace. General manager Charlie Montoyo is set
to impose a pregame curfew on playing video games in
the clubhouse. Chris, are you rolling or rolling with the
Blue Jays GM? I'm rolling with you. I mean it's
the clubhouse, this your workplace. Where else can you go

(01:54:09):
play video games in your workplace? And if we're winning,
it's I'm fine with it. But if we're losing, if
we're struggling, and you're worried about a video game. No,
get your game face on. It's time to prepare for
the game. Stop playing the video games. I know it
sound like, hey, you kids, get off my long guy,
but I'm rolling with it as well. You gotta have

(01:54:30):
some sort of clubhouse rules. Do you remember when the
Red Sox melted down because they were ordering chicken and
chicken and beer in the clubhouse during the game and
the chicken. They kept delivering buckets of chicken and all
this stuff, and they had a terrible year. They were
they were distracted. So I'm rolling with this. Yes, do
your job, go home and play that on your own time,

(01:54:51):
not during work hours. I'm with that. They said David
Price had carpal tunnel last year after too much Fortnite.
I believe it. There's something to it. Wow, all right,
Martin Weiss trolling and rolling? That was fun? Was the
Eye Couple of Fox Sports Radio. Tim Izzo blew up.

(01:55:13):
We'll get to that. Keep it locked, Chris and Rob
Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays
at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific at Farmers Insurance.
We know the sound of a perfect hot air balloon
landing and a Leston perfect one. She recovered it. Doctor Farmers,

(01:55:34):
we are farmers underwritten my farmers, Chuck Fire, Insurance exchanges
and affiliates products unailable every stone. It's the eye couple
of Chris Brussard and Rob Parker winding down another show,
last segment of the day. And we told you and
you know by now Michigan State had its hands full
with Bradley Day won seventy six sixty five, but it

(01:55:56):
was closer than the score indicates. And Tom is the
Michigan State coach. Is he a Hall of Famer? He is,
I believe right, Yeah, he's already mentioned. Yeah, legendary. He
doesn't won the championships his two thousand. Um, you know, Rob,
I'm just telling you that that's all. He had an
incident though I don't know who the player was. Who

(01:56:17):
was the player that he kind of really went off
Aaron Henry. Uh, he kind of tapped him in the chest,
but as the kid was walking off the floor, but
he really went on. Look how angry he is in
the picture. Here's what he had to say about it
at post game. And you're a freshman now at this time,
of year. You don't make mental mistakes. Some things that

(01:56:41):
we're telling a guy which way he goes, or not
running back, or you know, there are some things Aaron
didn't do a very good job of. And then I
did get after him, and he did respond, and he
did make a couple of big buckets, and he didn't
make some big free throws. But that's not good enough.
This is one and done time. You know, the my
bads are out the window. If they're my bads because
that team played better or that guy played better. If

(01:57:02):
it's my bad because I decided to jog back instead
of sprint back, then it is you're bad and you're
gonna hear about it. Rob I played college basketball, played football, baseball,
basketball in high school. I'm old school. There's a limit.
Bobby Knight used to go over the line. He used
across the line. Bobby Knight cracked a whip yeah at

(01:57:23):
his player, and that's not all he did. He threw
a chair across the by like he routinely crossed the
line is all Today. I ain't had that big of
a problem with him yelling at a player. I mean,
come on, he has a history. He has a history
of this of being so angry. This kid is not

(01:57:43):
an employee. He's a student athlete. That's what he can't
get angry. I'm not like that, Chris, go look at
what it was. Pull the kid to the side, look
at it and talk to him. He ran out onto
the court like he like he was making three million
dollars as much as zzole and that was his job.
He's a student athlete. My god, it's the first round

(01:58:06):
of the tournament. Pull them out of the game. So
what him out of the game. If there was a
fifth game, pull him out of the game. I'm okay,
pull him out of the game, not like crack, Not
like the kid's gonna be ruined out. I didn't say that,
but that he was humiliated on national television. That Tom
Mizzle didn't have to do that. Humiliated, she humiliated. There's

(01:58:29):
no reason for that. I was humiliated by coaches. Nobody
was watching your game. Problem, nobody was watching you get
in the stands. You were not humiliated college basketball, baseball,
in high school. You I mean, come away. People aren't
made of snowflakes. People aren't test flyin people. Aren't you
gonna crack real agree to disagree. I just you can

(01:58:53):
get it. This is what there's a limit to to
touch the kids. You gonna stip it, all right? If
he smacked him across the not did he smack, There's
no difference between what he did and smacking. I'm just saying.
He kid, for I'm asking, did not reach for him
like you want to get you as the kid? He
did he tap? Did he what he did? He was
trying to grab him. His own player had to separate

(01:59:15):
him and try to com Tom Mizzle down? Bad tapped
the kid in the stomach. Is that as bad as
smacking the kid? And of course not, then why did
you bring it up? Because he didn't excuse me of
thinking that's okay? Then the smack the kid. I'm just saying.
But he was reaching for him physically, And this is
the only thing. Why does another player have to control
Tom Mizzle? It should have been a coach if it

(01:59:37):
would have been okay, And this is what coaches doing.
You How the player wouldn't have reacted like that? Why
did he react like Tom because he was upset? No,
the other player did to do this. Why did he
Why did the other player feel feel compelled to stop Tom?
Because if that was normal, and he did. He wouldn't
have done it. The coaches do it, then, I'm asking you.

(01:59:59):
I'm asking I say, I don't know why the kid didn't?
Why because he knew that it was wrong. Tom's going
across the line. Why didn't he assistant Cash just do it? Cash?
Just Winston had to do it. He wouldn't already stop Thomas.
Why didn't he assistant coaches do it? Because they're probably
afraid of Tom Mizzle, but the kid isn't. The kid
was like no, because he looked at his teammate and said,
this is awful. Stop it, Tom, what are you doing? Stop?

(02:00:21):
Stop it? We're making people too song? Why why they
feeds in a bed of roses every single time? No?
But did It's a screw up. And you can't handle
somebody yelling at you? What the handkers a problem? That's
not yelling. That was over the top by Tom Mizzle.
That's what he's always done. You took one picture. That's
what it is. You took one. Don't look at it.
It's so angry and hateful. That ain't coaching. You took

(02:00:45):
what ain't coach and sit him down and tell him
what he didn't do. You took. Sit him down and
tell him what he don't do. Don't run out on
the court and grab at the guy and yell at
him like he's nothing. And if humiliate that kid, Tom
Mizzle should be ashamed of itself. You took one terror,
you took one Hall of fame. Go ahead, go ahead,
go ahead. You're not gonna anybody else, speak ahead, finish

(02:01:08):
up the show. No you talk. You took one picture.
You're taking one picture of time is all yelling. A
picture's worth a thousand words. You're taking one picture of
time is all yelling and making your whole argument. Or
look at the anger. Look at the he told you
what was upset. He was upset. He's trying to win

(02:01:29):
a tournament. He didn't cross the line. Anybody who's playing
any sport at a high level has been yelled at.
And if you can't take somebody yelling at you, I mean,
come on, And that's nothing is that's not coaching, that's
really he's a Hall of Fame car I don't care
what they voted him, And that's not he's a good

(02:01:50):
gun coaching? Is he a good gun coaching? Take the
kid out, explain to him why you took him out
because you didn't do those things, and you could do
it in the stern voice to run out of the
according to grab that kid emotional sometimes and he has cash.
Winston had to go. You know what, Tom Mizzle needs
to anger management. That's what they should do. Stop in university,

(02:02:12):
should suspend him and send him the anger manner. I
wish we could. That's on the batty wall. They come on, man,
please call us that you ain't right. If I was,
I got y'all, I hadn't freaking pop Warner football. I'm fine.
They should didn't ruin me. It didn't make me shrink.
They should have come out with handcuffs and put Tom Mizzle.
See now you're getting out of the line. Go ahead,

(02:02:37):
waiting yet? I look, maybe y'all agree with him, y'all young,
you can't yell at nobody anymore. Go ahead, what y'all think.
I think you're the voice of the people right there, Chris,
you must have stubbed Rob's toe one day. No, he didn't.
He didn't do anything to me. Alex. All right, Rob,
I'm with you. I think it's over the line for
him to run out on the field and yell. But
I'm with Chris thought the same time too. He can't

(02:02:58):
be getting on his feelings just because it's coach is upset.
No handle, but there's a way of handling. What he
did was out of was out about it was that
it wasn't Roundy criticized that ain't he will be round.
He was just twenty nineteen. The Saint Bobby Knight. Bobby Knight,
the Saint Bobby that this Saint Bobby Knight. That's why

(02:03:19):
you you way out of Larne. I'm not out of night.
Through a chair, Bobby, Bobby light whip and he touched
out and he Bobby Knights to kids a couple pitts.
