Karan Phillips who is up write a CP for the Contrariant.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
He will be joining us.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
He has an interesting take on actually the topic we're
about to talk about, and we'll have last call later
on in the program. If you're just joining us, you
don't know what's going on. In the National Championship game,
Michigan as an early lead with about five minutes into it,
nine in to four. For you, Layman, that's nine nine
(01:42):
to four Michigan with about fifteen minutes to go in
the first half.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Ask, can I ask you us? Michael Thompson, you say
ask you would question you? And Robb g Why does
men's college basketball the only one still with Halves? High
school has been four quarters? Monzi women's college basketball for
they changed.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
It a while.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
I have no idea NBA four quarters, four courts, Like,
what what is there?
Speaker 2 (02:11):
By?
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Golly, this is how we did it, and we're gonna
stick with this. I don't get it, Like it's stupid.
I hate it. Halves, Dude, when you were in middle school,
you play four quarters. In middle school, when you played
little peewee rec leagues, it was quarters.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
What I can't get.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Over is high school basketball where they play eight minute
quarters and a kiddle school one hundred points, Like, and
it's it's eight minute.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Quarters, right, Leslie did that? Yeah? Eight minutes?
Speaker 1 (02:36):
I don't even I'm like, dude, how do you score
that many points in eight minute quarters? Well, according to LaMelo,
you cherry pick. Well has to be it cherry pick
a little bit. Andrew's blowing out the Blue Jays. They're
off to a bad start, Dodgers nine in to one one.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Just some good stuff going on. But I always thought that,
rob G, you ain't gonna did you find it out?
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Why?
Speaker 4 (02:56):
That's just stupid, man, It's just stupid. Yeah, just because
you have to. It totally makes your brain. Okay, well
what and even how you have to the strategy of
when guys, cause again you only get five files. So
it's like, well, do I take them off for the half,
because if it's quarters, you could at least play that game,
right arm put them out of the midway of this quarter,
let them stick to the rest and then come back
second quarter.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
It wasn't always like that. I don't know what made
the change. I don't know what that is. They're the
only ones too.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
When the women's went left, I thought they would and then,
like I said, high school four quarters, so stretch anyway,
Speaking of n C DOUBLEA, we got two champions who
went at it. Rob G on towards the end of
our show on Friday some smoke. Yeah, that was a
big one.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
And you know what's funny is we thought it was
big at the time it was happening, end up getting
even bigger with the fallout because, in case you're living
under a rock, Gino ari Ema heavily favored Yukon Huskies.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
They were on the road to history.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
They were gonna be an undefeated champion, got spanked by
Don Staley and the South Carolina game Cocks in the
Final four. Late in that game, as the final seconds
are taking away, Gino Oriama goes to Don Staley to
shake her hand and is barking at her incessantly to
get into each other's face there for a second, we
(04:09):
don't know exactly what it was, right we find out
afterwards because Gino told us that he was mad at
Staley for not coming and shaking his hand at mid
court before the game. Among one thing, he said that
she was ranting and raving throughout the game. As part
of another, and last but not least, that his her team,
the game Cocks, were beating up his players to a
(04:30):
point that one of his players had her jersey ripped
by the opposition. The problem is is that we have
cameras these days, and the video evidence of Don Staley
shaking his hand before the game.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
It wasn't that center court, but but she shook his hand.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
There is video evidence of the Yukon player, yep, the
Yukon player tearing her own jersey out of frustration.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Very clear. She's isolated. You saw. I was so confused,
we were isolated.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
I was just her walking, she got filed, she kept
rolling towards the front row, and she's kind of had
her own moment.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
It was like ah, and it was real bad, so
much so he had to put out a statement apologizing
for the old things, saying, coot, I want to apologize
to the staff and the team of South Carolina. It
was uncalled for how I reacted. The story should be
how well South Carolina played, and I don't want my
actions to detract from that. I've had a great relationship
with their staff and I sincerely want to apologize to them.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
That was gino. Terrible apology. Terrible apology. You know, why
why did he mention her name?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
He didn't mention Don Staley's name in that apo, the
staff and all that. Why not? Why but he still
hasn't Why not mentioned her. He didn't do that to
the staff. He did it to her mentioned her name first.
So again we were doing the show, I saw it.
I was like, dude, what a saw loser? There's no gino.
(05:58):
You know how much winningness guy's done. I know they
have won national championship of late because other people have
been to the party and new people have been winning.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
But he's won a share? How many national championships? Did
he have? Eight? Something like that?
Speaker 1 (06:12):
I think I gotta use one of my toes to count.
I don't even know.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
I might assorted him a few too. It's it's insane
right toes and a couple other things in order to
get to the number. I'm about to look at that
right now.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
But you get my point. He's done enough winning, That's
what I'm saying. It's like twelve or something like. He's
won like a gazillion twelve. Yeah, that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
One more. And he was dying to get a Baker's dozes.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
And he thought he was gonna get thirteen, right, because
they undefeated season and all that. Two of their best
players turned up lame and play poorly. Right, been in
the final for twenty five times?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Hello Tom Iszl.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Did you hear that. I'm just saying, dude, we almost
run this week. What are you gonna do after today?
This is the last game or the time isn't gonna
get you gonna bring him up again?
Speaker 2 (07:05):
No, I'm not. You find some reason.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
But my point is strictly, Gino put on a terrible performance,
and I can't look at him and not think he's
a sore loser. When you win that much, Kelvin, when
you lose, you gotta have some grace and and am
I right? Decorum? That was awful.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Sometimes you gotta just tip your cat. But let me
Elijah put the camera on me. That was weak. He
was being an entitled bratt and he also is being
a hypocrite without break it down is weak because dude,
your team was being what I being bullied around. They
(07:49):
had been getting comfortable, won a bunch of games, and
then they used to lose it.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
It ain't used to being down.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
And I'm gonna tell him like I tell my daughters,
one man up, let's go, And that's what he was
supposed to do. You take that out on them, you
get them going, don't take it out on Dawn because
their team came out there and they how touched you.
And he's being again and entitled, Brent, because he's used
to winning, and you're right, he freaked out, What do
you mean?
Speaker 2 (08:11):
This isn't me.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
I usually win these types of games. I'm usually on
the winning side of these what and he freaked out?
And also it's hypocritical because I know for a fact
that he's going to be coaching the team. Hey, when
you we play hard, but sometimes it's not your day
and you shake hands, you know you understand that the
team outclass you and it's okay, And it's just part
of it. Part of winning is sometimes learning how to lose. Right,
I'm sure he preaches that, Well.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
You didn't show you all the players, went to all
the players that all your assistant coaches.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
You didn't show that.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
So you always preaching you know how to win and
then all of this good stuff, and you don't even
teach show that to that type of class, to your
own players and to your own students student athletes.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
And here's the other side. I don't like this. I
don't like the idea that had this been reversed.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like I lived in
America long enough to know she would have been the
angry black woman. Has she starting nutting up on the sideline,
going crazy and nah, I'm trying to get that gino.
There they go, there she goes, there's an angry black woman.
I feel like that would have been the narrative around her,
surrounding her, had had the roles been reversed.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
So it just was strange. I didn't understand it. I did.
I thought it was weak.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
I thought it was again him being an entitled brat
because I'm supposed to be winning. I do this. What
do you mean I'm not doing We're undefeated. This is
supposed to be where we go to the National Championship game.
And also wonder too, rob G, did this play any
little bit of a role and to down Stanley? I'm
not unless she wouldn't make any excuse, but just the
cloud over it for her team, you know what I mean.
(09:43):
We're just a little bit of distracted, just a little bit.
And by the way, U see, La, they're incredible. They
got all these seniors, they came back, Lauren Betts, Keky Rice.
Speaker 6 (09:53):
The game.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
I'll tell you, Ke shout to coach Corey close. You know,
we have them on all the time. With spectrums. But
I'm just like, man, that cloud, and I just think
he lastly stole her moment because all you're talking about
is Dawn and Gino. Look at the classes Dawn, he
look how much class she did and Gino? Or look
how frustrated she was at Geno. Man, look at South
Carolina they played? But did you just see Geno? But
(10:15):
I don't like that moment as well. I'm with you,
and that took away.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
That's why you don't want to make yourself the story
and the whole controversy. But I really I don't know
who their pr people are Yukon.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
I would have said, coach this appology, you have to
put her name in.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
You have to apologize. Big Okay, you were attacking and
by the way, this is a woman and I'm not
saying he would I don't know physically assaulted, but like
you're going crazy on her to the point I get
the initial like bla blah blah blah blah b back
to you. I get that, and to kind of walk
away like it was really trying to get at her.
Don with a two pieced them in the biscuit. But
I just yeah, I just didn't like it. Again, and
especially from a coach who I know. Dude, you mentioned
(10:54):
twenty five final fours, twelve champions.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Is enough? Not enough? This is her era.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
This is what I'm trying to say, is like, you
can't be like that when you've won that much. You
know how many teams they ran off the court and
bludgeon and exactly and beating down and those coaches have
to take it and come up to you and shake
your hand in those moments even though the team just
got beat down. Right, so now you finally your team
(11:22):
doesn't win. It's ugly and I get all that, but
you have to respect the game after it's all over.
We've seen growing up and you know this growing up
in Detroit and me working there for twenty years.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
That's hockey town.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Oh yeah, those guys in the NHL beat each of
them up, you know what I mean. It's a rough
seriest And what do they do They all shake the
tap it up at the end of the game and
all go by exactly the game here it is. I'll
give it to you exactly. Want to save you a
dental expense. Yeah, I just again. My last point too
is you also have to pod.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Because you made up narratives. They weren't ripping jerseys. You know,
he don't. Don't out here act like my players were thugs.
They played tough, they played physical. We weren't ripping jerseys.
We weren't doing all this extra stuff. You guys just
got out class out tough own it, just like you've
been doing for three decades now to a bunch of
other teams. It's okay, it is okay, right, And it's
(12:22):
to the down Stanley era the last five years or so,
so it's okay you had you and not that you
won't ever win again, but I'm just you get what
I'm saying. Like she's having a great run right now
the last five six years. Like he let her cook.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Just be respectable even in loss and deal with some
sort of grace when you lose.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
It's okay in city, right, your team lost. You thought
this was supposed to be a year you're undefeated. It's okay,
it's okay. Thirteen thirteen, nice little run from Yukon Michigan
struggling to score now.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Yeah, to Trarly, I mean it's whether it's still got
ten minutes to go, ten and a half minutes to goo,
all right? Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight
seven seven nine, nine, six sixty three sixty nine. Has
your opinion of Gino or your Gino? I always watched.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
His name.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Say it again, Ariama, Ariama. I always want to say
Ariana grande. No uh changed after this latest incident with
Dawn Staley eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox because
it definitely took me as he wound up.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Being a saw loser. That's what I got from it.
What did you think?
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Was it like one one kind of moment you could
just kind of forget about it. It was the heat
of the moment. Do you understand what he was doing
Gino or or not? We'll continue that conversation next with you.

about seven eight minutes or so and eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox. You want to jump in on
this we're talking about of course, Gino Arima, got caught lying,
got called acting crazy on the sidelines with Don Staley
(15:29):
ruining her moment, ruining South Carolina moment. One of those
rare times that the I couple, Rob and I actually
agree on something. We're both like that was outrageous. Thought
he was being weak in my opinion, you thought he was,
you know, just still in her moment eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox, Who we got?
Speaker 2 (15:45):
All right, let's kick it off? Is off screen?
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Now?
Speaker 2 (15:50):
What happened to screen? Who you got?
Speaker 6 (15:52):
Robb Gi.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Chili? Chilly?
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Tim in Atlanta? You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Chilli?
Speaker 2 (16:00):
How are you? What's up? Doing good?
Speaker 7 (16:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (16:07):
A couple of.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Hey, we got a bad connection. Yeah, call right back
to him. We could really we can't really of you. Yeah,
well we'll get you right back on. All out there
in Atlanta with the boost Mobile? Who next? All right?
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Rocky in South Carolina? We haven't heard from Rocky in
a minute. You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
How are you doing? Rocky?
Speaker 8 (16:28):
All right? Man?
Speaker 6 (16:29):
All right?
Speaker 8 (16:30):
Rob and and Kelvin. Uh, look, I'm just be brief
and uh as a South Carolina fan, but I'm gonna
try to be objective. Okay, I think I can. Uh,
having having played the game collegiately myself, uh so, and
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna go after Gino or
(16:52):
anything like that. And it's not for me to pass judgment. However,
when you play the game, uh, and and whether you
win or whether you lose, uh, you do it with
dignity and humility. Uh, whether you win or whether you lose.
And excuse me, sorry to call okay something here.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
That's what I covered my mouth.
Speaker 6 (17:19):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 8 (17:23):
But nonetheless, Uh, at the end of that, yes, I
just think, uh, you have to be able to win
and lose, because I mean, it just is. Uh So
it's a bit disappointing uh for me or to see
how the end of that, that that game transpired and.
Speaker 6 (17:44):
All of that.
Speaker 8 (17:45):
But you you you just have to Uh that's the
spirit of competition and and playing and and you play
the game. Yeah, but you don't always win. And yeah,
he didn't do a very good job of.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
That, No doubt we appreciate it, right, I just said, yeah,
And the apology was really bad? Did Tim callback Did
we get them? Robb g Let's go to chili? Tim
in Atlanta? Your phone was acting up?
Speaker 6 (18:14):
How are you?
Speaker 7 (18:15):
I'm good?
Speaker 6 (18:16):
Guys?
Speaker 7 (18:16):
Is it better?
Speaker 9 (18:17):
I mean, I don't know what's a little bit it's
not well, well, real quick, I just want to remind
you guys, like you're right when you said entitlement, because
you remember Kashowsky his last home game, how.
Speaker 10 (18:29):
He went off uh uh, Tom Brady when he wouldn't win.
It's like they're entitled and when they don't win, it
just kind of lose it, you know, And it's just
what it is.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
It's just entitled.
Speaker 10 (18:41):
They expect to win, they expect to be treated one
way when they're blowing people out. And think about it.
Connecticut blew shot Carona out in the game last year,
but Doctorady took it. You know, they her team took
it and came back and beat them, right, And.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
That's a great point.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
I'm glad you brought that if she handled it with
class and it even even yesterday losing the court close
to the UCLA to Bruins, she wrapped them up, loved
them up, supported her. You know, it was happy fifteen
years of UCLA finally get the wind.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
So yeah, I just.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Again, nobody's saying his career is in jeopardy, his legacy,
but the but for me, it's just more so I
know what you're teaching these young mea, I know what
you're preaching, and you did not practice that at all.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
And Dawn didn't want to take away from UCLA right right.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
And that's he kept asking her about Gino and She's like,
you know, talk about it.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
We're not talking about that. Let them have we got
smacked up. They won.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
They deserve this moment exactly. Let them have their sun
the day in the sun. Absolutely, eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
I know we do have.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
One more car Kurt in North daf Kota. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, buddy.
Speaker 7 (19:47):
Hey, Robin Coleman, thank you so much. You guys are
the best. I'm an old, big ken guy in appreciate
I remember. I love you guys. You guys are the best.
There's no other sports sports talk so out there like this.
Appreciate your voices you bring to us. But anyways, I'm
old enough to remember when the great the Ohio State
coach Whody Hayes closed line a player that had just
(20:07):
turned over.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Oh yeah, football, We've talked about that. That was crazy. Yeah,
we talked about that too.
Speaker 7 (20:13):
That was a tremendous staying at the end of his
career and basically like a stain that really hurt him bad,
you know, his reputation. And so if this sticks to
Gino like that stuff stuck the wordy uh uh. Yeah,
that's a really bad thing. I feel bad to one.
But anyways, Yeah, I love Don Staley, love your show.
I'll set up so somebody else you get on, but
keep up to go to work.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
Man.
Speaker 7 (20:32):
I love you guys, so thank you.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Appreciate you my man. I mean, it could it to
his point, it could have got back?
Speaker 4 (20:37):
What if what if? What if the old hold me back,
hold me back doesn't work? Meaning like what if he
did get through? What if Don got through?
Speaker 2 (20:44):
You know what I mean? Like where where was it
gonna go? Because you know.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Everybody's pushing you back and you get to get to
get amped up even more and more, like how don't
Where would it have gone?
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Because what Hayes one was crazy? Remember that if I
was done, I would have pim slapped Yeah backhm, pop?
What are you doing? What are you doing?
Speaker 1 (21:02):
From Philly? I want to see that. I don't play
with her. She from Philly And you better not touch
up Balenciaga shirt or Louis Vauton.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
I'm just saying even added to it right there. I
don't know what you know.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
She never has anything on with South Carolina, does she?
She always has on like a designer fly am I right?
I mean, you know, I'm just saying, like everybody else
is wearing just a corker press box pull over.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
You are definitely a college coach the way with your
stuff with your logos on it. Right there, Manti Blao
is now Coron Philip on the other side on the YouTube, you.
Speaker 6 (21:36):
Know, to him.
Speaker 11 (21:37):
Yeah, I don't think she wears South Carolina stuff, like
I don't think this is news. Yeah, but obviously that
one was definitely on purpose because she knew she was
going to be in front of the camera a lot,
so she wore something to show it on.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Is she getting a little deal?
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Oh no, there's a deal because all she has the
top end stuff. It has to be because she either
wear Louis Vaitan.
Speaker 11 (21:57):
Yeah, she's definitely always showing showing some feat and that.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
You can't get you.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Both and you can deal because the whole idea is
she's on camera a lot and she's wearing the new stuff.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Competition.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
You can't wear Nike shoes and rebox shoes. Suppose just
to me, those are high end stuff, and.
Speaker 11 (22:16):
Then I'm all right, now they're so high end that
they don't worry about each other.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
I don't wory about because the people will buy and
people don't people you mean you the rich up ain't
either or they're buying boat so much.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Yeah, I know how you do.
Speaker 11 (22:30):
Yeah, but you're right, you can't wear I'm down, but
you're a Kelvin. You can't wear Nike with Nike like
under Yeah, like you can't do that. But apparently if
you have the higher, higher stuff you can wear it. Whatever.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Listen, I'm officially in my comfort there. I just bought
a pair of on clouds. So if a couple of
the camera on me, if you want to sponsor you
bow you on clouds?
Speaker 2 (22:51):
What did you buy on clouds?
Speaker 11 (22:53):
Am I supposed to know what that is?
Speaker 3 (22:55):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 4 (23:07):
We got last call coming up in a little bit
right now. We're joined by Karan Phillips CP. Right, So
the contrarian and Karan J. Phillips on X. You want
to go ahead and give him a follow the Koran.
What's going on?
Speaker 6 (23:18):
What's happening? How y'all doing tonight, fellas?
Speaker 2 (23:20):
We're doing well?
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Man, I don't know if you caught the last little
bit of what we were talking about. Rob and I
just kind of going at Geno because of what happened
with Don Staley thought that was total bogus.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
And I even put the position of it been reversed.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Rob. I was saying, how well, maybe the angry black
woman comes out the the that narrative, if this were
her going crazy at him.
Speaker 6 (23:40):
Oh yeah, oh listen, Oh did I get you started?
My god, if this would have been the reverse, man, oh,
I don't even I don't even want to think about
that in these times in America. If you pick up
what I'm putting.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Down, right, we got you. But go ahead. No.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
I was gonna say, but you you think that this
was good for women's college basketball, right, that's your You
have a different take on it.
Speaker 6 (24:08):
Oh yeah, this is this is this is excellent. This
is my piece, you know, that's what I wrote about
it in the column, my own But I just used
Geno and Don because you know, this was what anyone
talked about all weekend, Like I shout out to UCLA,
shout out to Lauren Bett and Keithy Rice and then
(24:29):
went in their first championship. But no one's going to
remember this final four and that UCLA won it. We're
going to remember this as the Geno and Don's Final Four.
And let's just be honest in this moment of women's
basketball period, if we focus on the w NBA or
the college game and this growth that has happened the
(24:51):
last three, four or five years, a sport that's always
been really, really good, especially if you throw in the
dominance of the women's Olympic team has finally got this
huge spotlight. We just saw the WNBA win and their
new CBA deal with the league. We've seen everything that's
happened on the collegiate level in the last couple of years.
(25:13):
But if we're being honest, what keeps women sports alive?
It's just a microcosm of what keeps sports alive in
America when there is drama. As I wrote, if there's
a pinch of racism or sexism or classism in sports
in America, oh it makes it, it makes it so
(25:33):
good to watch. There's a reason the term the Great
White Hope exists, and that's just one way to look
at it. But if you go out through the history
of this country and we're thinking about huge sporting events,
let's go to the eighties with Catholic versus Convicts. Let's
go Duke Q and LV ninety one, Let's go to
five five, let's go through all these different eras in
(25:56):
different sports.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Watched NCAA Championship and I remember very vividly. You could
not have put together something bigger than that.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
It was huge. It was huge.
Speaker 6 (26:10):
Now was it a great basketball game? No, two great
teams and two great players. That is debatable, But that
ain't why we watched that game. It was because one
part of America was cheering and another part of America
was cheering for somebody else, and it was a two
America face off. And when sports in this country has
any of that, Oh, the sports are so much better.
(26:33):
And what we saw on Friday night was an example
of that. And for a league that is almost thirty
years old, that is trying to take it to that
next level in the stratosphere and be one of the
big boys. When we talk about the NFL and the NBA,
you gotta have some drama, and Gino gave us some drama.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
I think we left out another one unless you said
it and I didn't hear you. I apologize, But did
we mention Caitlyn Clark and Andrees?
Speaker 6 (26:59):
I thought that was spoke for herself. Given how that
is what took women's college basketball to a new level.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
They ran Angel reached out of Chicago.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
About have been in Atlanta. That fits perfect her brandt
having the time of her life.
Speaker 6 (27:12):
Hey, that is that that the Chicago Sky listen, God
bless them. That might be the worst run organization in
spressional sports history. I am glad that she got out
of there, because you go through the history of their organization,
they've ran off every great player of every great player
has packed their bags and left wit a minute.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Did the Detroit Lions cease to operate? I'm sorry, old, No, No.
Speaker 6 (27:35):
The Detroit Lions have had two of their great flow.
The Chicago Sky has had all of their great league.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
I'm just saying the Lions, the Lions have had two
Hall of famers. Quit on the spot. I'm just saying, CP,
you got to give me that right too. I can't
get all the first they went to the Hall of Famer.
After they left the Lion.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
I heard them senior senior in high school. Calvin was
sick when Barry was just was like, I'm good.
Speaker 6 (27:59):
I've seen Cannas Park as a Hall of Famer. She left.
They got a couple other women who played for the
skuy who spent some time there. The probably will be
Hall of Famers in the next couple of years.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Left see pe Let me ask you.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
I did not like Gino's apology because he didn't name
her in that apology.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
He said always had a good relationship with the staff,
and this and that.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
How do you not say the coach's name, Dawn Staley?
I apologize, apologized to Dawn Staley because this was un
professional and it was wrong. He never mentions her in
the apology. I think that's unacceptable. And if I was
a PR or a sports information director, I say, coach,
(28:45):
you gotta say her.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
Name, because that's an apology that you give when someone
makes you give it because you still haven't said in
the moment or had the reflection to realize the weight
of what you done, and then you like you said,
you brought up where it's the sid or somebody else
overcome to be like, hey, we need a better version.
(29:08):
And my response to this is, Rob, you are absolutely correct,
But who has more juice on that campus? And listen,
Dan Hurley's coaching a great game right now, and Dan
Hurley he is who he is, and Jim Camholm was great.
But ain't nobody in the history of Yukon had more
(29:29):
juice on that campus than Gino? Are that not only
so much? You can make him say now at some
point during off season and when next season starts, I
guarantee you we will get more during preseason press or
if they decide to schedule each other in non conference,
(29:49):
because if we as we've seen quotes and comments from
some of the Yukon greats and the legends who have
great relationships with Don at some point the way we've
seen this machine that the way Yukon operates and they've
had for the last thirty plus years. Yeah, that is
a program built on accountability, and those women are gonna
hold him accountable. And I guarantee you we will see
(30:11):
a better apology or a better effort or more We're
a more sol Gino down the line. But yes, Robert,
you are correct that apology was trash.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
It was just from my point, was just cp that
I just expected more because he was specifically going after
her like and not to mention, he was specifically insinuating
that she had her team playing dirty rippon jerseys are
doing this, which was not the case. So you put
a lot on her that was inaccurate, and then didn't
specifically address those things that you addressed, you know, during
(30:41):
your press conference after the game. So that that was
my big issue. But you say it's good for sports.
I totally get your point of that. Especially I always
talked to Rob about we need villains, and that's kind
of why Dan Hurley is good for college basketball.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Lot little prickly little, you know, little, I can't stand that, dude.
I'm just telling you.
Speaker 6 (30:58):
It ain't even about villain. It's like, yeah, you I
have never been a fan of the other dog, but
I understand that sports works better when there's an autotok
and then sports usually works even better when that underdog
is connected to the isms like I wrote about, if
there is an underprivileged or underrepresentatives community that is cheering
(31:20):
for the underdog because they see themselves in the underdog,
the intensity of the matchup is going to be even better. Like,
let's be honest, that game between Yukon and South Carolina
was intense for forty minutes. I didn't see any of
that intensity or energy that South Carolina had for Yukon
(31:40):
that they had for UCLA yesterday. It felt like they
showed up to be Yukon and not to win a
national championship. And part of that maybe, hey they lost
to the betther team. Cool, But this Yukon South Carolina
thing has been building for.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
Years and it came to a high.
Speaker 6 (32:00):
It came to it. Hey, Hey, we had Yukon and
Tennessee back in the day. We had Yukon and Notre
Dame for a while with Mussa McGrath had them Roland.
Now we got the Italian Philly Metro Kid and the
North Philly Girl. Walked into a robbery between the two
best current programs over the last five to ten years
(32:23):
in the sport going at it and even if they
piece it up and hug and kiss this whole hang,
we got it and do a unity picture that we're
never gonna forget that anytime. These two coaches and these
two program steps on the floor. It's going to mean
something much more now.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
That's when we leave it. Man, Ceep. Appreciate you, man,
thank you.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
Appreciate y'all having y'all have a good.
Speaker 4 (32:44):

(34:03):
is your halftime score? Michigan up by four on Yukon
just starting halftime, so probably about a fifteen minute or
so for that.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Dodgers up fourteen. The one on the Blue Jays.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
My gosh, it is out of hand. Every time we turn,
it's a home run. All right, all right, let's last call?
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox who we got
last call? This is the last call?
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Not that one close? All right? We do gotta get
out of here, all right.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Yeah, Pete in Las Vegas, you are the last caller
here on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
What you got Pete.
Speaker 12 (34:49):
Good afternoon, fellas. I just you know Thistle Gino and
Don Staley. It's kind of ridiculous. I mean, I think
he's a great coach, but I don't know, Go go
coach some men somewhere. But I'll tell you what needs
to happen. I don't know how a team like Tennessee
can have one student athlete on their basketball team today.
(35:10):
How did that happen? Guys?
Speaker 2 (35:13):
From all the transfers, I mean.
Speaker 12 (35:15):
That's that's a perennial Top twenty team. How can they
not have just an on flew of people wanting to
come in? I mean they have one person on the
roster as of right now.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Guys, Yes, that's the era we're in right now. That's
been happen.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
That's happened to a few teams, I mean not one,
but where they only have two three guys, two three players.
You know, this is this is where we are right
now with transfers and NIO and all that.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
This is just the way of the game right now.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
And I told you if with Michigan and uh yukon
up right now, Michigan wins, this is going to be there.
You got Indiana this close didn't give you concredit, but
that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
You got this thread close the spread seven and a half?
Speaker 7 (35:55):
Was it?
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Yeah? I mean it's only what four is it? Twenty eight?
Twenty three? So up by four? Okay, so four? Yeah,
I like the way it could be. It could be
eight by the time the game's over.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
One thing I hope Michigan saw was that they're gonna
like Yukon ain't falling down, Utahn ain't given that U
guys like just get oh well, it's just not our
night and we you know, we give up. So I
hope Michigan saw that because they they're definitely gonna be there.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
They're all you gotta go. Also, look at Michigan.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
I mean, one of the leading scorers has only four
averages nineteen, so that idea that he's even out there, uh,
you know that that's a disadvantage.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
It's got to basket a few times. Got some files.
We need to get a couple more buckets in there.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
We'll see the Big Mars playing well down low for uh,
for Michigan as well. But a good game, good competitive
game right now, both teams playing trying.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
When you cry your eyes out tonight, of Michigan Losers.
Speaker 4 (36:51):
No, I've talked about that the other joh TV job.
I'll be mad for five minutes and then, dude, I'm
not that fan.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
True story. I life is, you know, I'm just even
too much going on.
Speaker 4 (37:02):
I don't ever understand the guy who throws the promote
at his own TV done kicks the dog, doesn't talk
to his wife for kids two days, Like, I'm do
you have to lose a game to kick.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
The dog or is he just in a way he's
just I don't know. It just seems like he seems
like he gets kicked more when they lose. Oh, that's
the that's what it is. The dog sees the score like,
now let me get on the body. He'll got dogs,
know what? No, I can't I have that be another kid.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Not yet. The kids don't want dogs.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
Oh they sweat as my sister bring her a little
she's got a literally it's four pound puppy.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
Four pounds, right, Oh, Teddy, Oh, ain't got to teddy.
Yeah yet, I'm just shuying.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
It's not that, it's just we You got to give
us at least four or five more years where my
youngest would be what would she be like, give her take.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
You know.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
I'll be like, you know what, I'll be telling my daughters.
I'll be like, yeah, when you get your own apartment,
I'll bring a puppy. You got, you I got you.
Don't worry about it. My thing is just just are
we gonna end up taking care of it? With all
the stuff they got gymnastic, you will be that's the issue, exactly.
I don't have to have it for another child. Heck no,
So that's why we don't have one. No, I'm not
(38:07):
around that trash talking. Tuesday is tomorrow. We got a
lot of stuff to get to. I wonder if you're
gonna be trash talking Dan earlier or not. I'm gonna
sleep like a baby tonight. If they lose, I'll tell
you that I don't know. There's gonna be a good one.
I almost will accept a loss for Michigan just for this.
(38:27):
What else
