Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Rob Parker and my man Aaron Torres is
here with me again today while Chris is out on vacation,
and we have another award winning show coming your way.
We're talking about the twenty twenty NBA champion La Clippers,
you heard me right, the home run King Barry Bonds,
the Mayweather paqui Ou rematch that nobody wants to see.
(00:21):
We've got it all covered, and our friend Arnie Spaniards
stopped by to get burned in the latest installment of
the Hot Seat. So let's get to it. The Worship
Wednesday edition of The Odd Couple podcast is coming your
way next. Thanks for listening to The Odd Couple Podcast.
Be sure to check us out live every weekday from
seven pm to ten pm Eastern four to seven Pacific
(00:45):
on Fox Sports Radio. Find your local station for The
Odd Couple at Fox Sports Radio dot com, or stream
us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching
f s R this party you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Oh yeah, very nice? You like that. I was practicing
(01:20):
in the mirror this morning, fired up, very very nice.
Nice job. I listened to all the old podcast. To
listen to all the old podcast. Listen back. You know,
I went back and reviewed the tape last night and
I can't prepare today. There you go, very nice job.
It is the odd couple Fox Sports Radio on your Wednesday, right,
(01:42):
isn't the worship Wednesday? No? Yes, it is a worship Wednesday,
even without Chris Boussard And he's on a little vacation
this week, Aaron Torres in his stead. So much to do,
so little time with your day, so far good. Speaking
of worship, I had never really listened to the intro before.
I like the part where they say one guy throws
(02:03):
money at the pole. Who would that be? Chris? Is
that Chris or is that me? I'm guessing it's you. Yeah,
that's me, because I mean when you went to the
super Bowl, that's all you tell you. I don't even
know if you knew there was a game going on.
You just talked about there was a game going on.
It just wasn't that the stadium got you got you.
But you know what, I'm trying to put these young
girls through college, arrand I respect that, do you know
what I mean? Like they're trying to get through school. Yeah,
(02:26):
I'm just trying to be like guess help them out.
You have a heart of gold than an empty wallet.
I got that. I respect. I'm a little moist right now. Hey,
you know, everybody has to do what they gotta do,
and it's a legitimate business. Nothing, there's no monkey business
going on. It's right, and you gotta pay taxes on
it all the other stuff, So why not everyone wants
to pick on cinnamon and star dust. I don't like
(02:48):
that at all. And they also a lot of those
places have good food. Okay, I don't know that I've
ever eaten there. Got some water down drinks from time
to do. I forgot about that. But oh man, all right,
let's welcome in the Eye Couple crew, because we wouldn't
be able to do this fine radio program without them.
Rob g is our producer. Of course, Alex our engineer.
(03:12):
David Gascon is our update person at the sports desk,
will keep us updated. Aria is our Ari is our intern.
I should say sorry, Ari Ari's our intern, and Khari
is my personal intern for the next two months. I
just had another one before and we have another one.
(03:35):
We will welcome to the show. And of course Elijah
is our social media guru. They're all on the other
side of the glass, and you know what, let's kick
so man, let's do it. So today was the big
day in Los Angeles and this is the Eye Couple
coming to you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios.
Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen minutes or more in
(03:57):
car insurance. Or visit Geico dot com for a free
rate quote. But today it was a big day in
Los Angeles, not for the Lakers, but for the Clippers.
And it was an understated press conference, which I expected
when you talk about uh Kawhi, Leonard, Paul George and
basically the step child to the Lakers in the city,
(04:19):
it just is there's nowhere around it. The Clippers have
never won anything. They've bounced around to town to town,
San Diego back Buffalo. I think the Right were once
the Buffalo Braves and all kinds of stuff. So they've
been around. But they had the sunshine today because they
were winners. The Nets and the Clippers were the two
(04:41):
biggest winners in the free agent free agency this pass
off season, and they got two big stars. What jumped
out about the press conference to you? Was there anything
other than the idea that the Clippers and I know
it's hard for people to fathom and grasp and hold
on to. But they have a chance to win. They
(05:02):
have a chance to win a championship. In fact, I'm
standing out here. I'm gonna be out in the wilderness
by myself, and I'm telling you that the Clippers will
win the NBA Championship this year. You think you're in
the wilderness on that, Yeah, to win it. Who who
is saying otherwise? Who is saying no, I'm not saying
people are saying they have a chance. I don't know
(05:22):
how many people are saying they're gonna win it. I'm
gonna tell you the next two NBA champions go ahead,
Clippers this year and the Brooklyn Nets next year. Those
are my the next two years. Yeah, you hear me.
I'll tell you this. I don't know that I trust.
(05:43):
Ain't nobody saying that out there, Nobody in sports talk
radio America, Well, Brooklyn, I don't know that I trust Kyrie.
I think I do. I've seen him play against the Warriors.
I saw him average twenty eight points. I saw him
knocked down big shots in big games. He's the kind
of guy who could get to the basket at any time,
that you need in big games. He's played in those games,
(06:07):
and with Kevin Durant as the lead, he will be perfect.
I'm telling you it will be rejuvenated. That team will
be great. And this team because I love what the
Clippers did a year ago. I love that they traded
Tobias Harris, their best player, and they still won forty
eight games, and they still went to the playoffs, and
they beat the Warriors in Golden State in Oakland with
(06:30):
a healthy Kevin Durant twice, including coming back from thirty
one points on the road when they could have easily
rolled over and said, why do we want to go
back home and play a game six to lose. We
could just give it up here and be all over well.
And that's why I like them as well, because that's
the ethos of the entire organization. Mental toughness. They talk about,
(06:52):
the don't quit, the term that they use rob. I
don't know if you've heard this, Blacktop versus Big Top,
and I don't know if you have heard that or not,
but Big Top is the other team across town. They're
the ones with, you know, a circus like atmosphere, and
the Clippers are They want guys that that play like
they're on the blacktop. And Patrick Beverley is that I
love that guy. I love He's one of my favorites.
(07:14):
And you know what, you remember when Lonzo debuted in
the NBA and deat him up on the valve? Yeah right,
I'm like, Wow, we don't see that anymore. He's an
old school guy and he was he had to earn
his way to the NBA. Gonna make you earn it. Yep,
nothing wrong with that. Montrez Harrold's second round pick. Love
(07:38):
that guy. Uh, Lou Williams love that guy. I listen.
I agree with Jock Rivers won a championship already. I
thought last year was his best coaching job. I agree
one hundred percent. And I think that Kauhi. Now to
what I was saying a minute ago, this is the
ethos of the organization. We're not flashy, we're not the
big top, we're not the circus. We don't talk, we
(07:59):
don't don't subtweet, we don't you know what does this
Instagram post mean? Like, I don't even know if Kawai
has Instagram. They just get to work, they play ball, Loija,
does he do you know Kawhi. Yeah, I don't think
he does. I don't think he knows what Instagram is
to I don't even know does he even have a
Thanks Kauai, I appreciate that. Stop you're embarrassing me. Does
he even have the smartphone yet? Or does he still
(08:21):
do the flip phone? I know that was like a
big point of contention a few years ago. He's got
enough cash to do that now. I mean, he's got
like a thirteen million dollars home, so he's doing fun.
All right, Let's not act like he's living in a
bandbox or studio apartment or something. But I just think
that I'm with you in the sense that I like
this team, but I like the kind of mentality that
they have. I now think that Kawhi Leonard is the
(08:44):
face of that kind of, like I said, Ethos, that
mentality of we're tougher than you, were, more physical than you.
We want to play defense, which I think is a
huge thing that nobody talks. Look at their team, They're
going to be a hell of a defensive team and
they have those guys. We saw Yannis destroyed the Eastern Conference,
(09:05):
destroyed the NBA, and then all of a sudden Kawhi
Leonard guarded him, and what happened in the Eastern Conference Finals.
All of a sudden he shot thirty He was shooting
over sixty percent from the field went down to thirty
five percent when Kawhi guarded him. That ain't by happenstance. Absolutely,
And remember that Milwaukee won the first two games of
(09:27):
that series and didn't win another one. Oh, I remember,
I remember, and it speaks to Kawhi who he is.
I mean, I remember I was actually in Vegas from
a bachelor party, but I remember speaking of Magic City Monday. Yeah, yeah,
we may have had a few Magic City type experiences
there really, but yeah, we were actually teased for later
(09:47):
in the show. We were supposed to go to Mayweather's
Club that weekend, but you know, one of the Knights
got a little bit hazy and whatever. We didn't make it.
So your wife didn't have a heart attack that we're
gonna have. Some women don't want their husbands to be
to even have a bachelor party. She knows, she had
her own, she had a bachelorette So I think they
did like a little magic Mike thing. You don't have
a problem with that, did you? No, guys don't have
(10:07):
a problem. It's only women who have the problem. Said yeah, no,
and she's cool. I mean, do your thing have fun? Well,
they're all right. Not to get too far off track,
but Clay Travis, our buddy from the Morning Show, always says,
this is the place where your man is going to
get into least trouble is at the strip club because
if he goes to the regular bar, you know, two
(10:27):
for one happy hour, could you know you might meet
a nice little single girl. The girls, as you reference
off the top of the show. I don't know how
we got on this subject. But they're there to work,
they're there to pay bills, they're there to go to college.
They are they just want Rob Parker to help him
get through school. That's all I care about. They really
don't care about me. Didn't want to loot in my pocket,
that's big daddy. They're like, is that a load of
(10:49):
money or you just you know, no, that's a corn cob.
I just have okay, whatever, different strokes for different folks
or whatever. But so I was watching uh game, Game
six of the Eastern Conference Finals to get back on
track here in Vegas, and it was just it was
incredible where the light bulb just flipped. And I'm trying
(11:10):
to I'm having tried said that, I'm trying to figure
out what was I thinking. I wanted to ask you
real quick, we're gonna talk Clippers, but Lakers. Were you
as unimpressed with the moves post Anthony Davis as I was?
Because I sat there and I felt like, when you know,
we talked about everything that we like about the Clippers,
(11:30):
but I felt like the Lakers when they didn't get Kauhi,
they scrambled. I'm not a Boogie Cousins guy. I'm not
a Rondo guy at this point in his career. I
didn't like those moves at all. Yeah, I'm with you.
Everybody says, oh yeah, the Lakers did an unbelievable job
after the fact, I just don't. I don't buy intechree.
I just those are pieces parts that were laying around
and here's the other part. Just be honest. While all
(11:53):
the other movements going on and everybody's being snapped up,
why are these guys left, Why are they available king
the game? Why they will wait? They couldn't have been
waiting around to see if the Lakers we're gonna get
Kawhid because then they wouldn't be room for them. Sure,
so why would they why were they available? I don't
buy that at all. Of course, Bookie Cousins on one leg, right,
Shan Rondo's running out of sort of report from ESPN.
(12:16):
They were like, there's no interest in Bookie Cousins, no zero,
there was no market, yea. So all of a sudden,
remember he uh did the Lakers to go to the Warriors?
You remember that, of course, So so all of a sudden,
now he's going to the Lakers. Come on, man, But
the Clippers. I love what they did. They have a smart,
rich owner, They have a great coach, they have they
(12:38):
have something already in place. You know what they have though,
They have an identity, Yes, that's what they have it.
And you know, you look at the Lakers, what are they?
How did the pieces fit together? Don't know yet exactly.
You know what you're gonna get from the class. Anthony
David's gonna wind up being like Kevin Love and Chris
Bosh standing on a on a perimeter, standing out there,
(12:59):
or is he gonna be on the bench with a
you know, cast on his leg or something like that.
He's played seventy games I think twice in his He's
missed fourteen or more games in five of his first
seven There you go seasons. So everybody can say, oh,
why are you hating? I'm just those are facts. I agree,
those are Those are facts. Clippers, though, man, I am
impressed where they're going. I love that it was understated
(13:20):
and you know what, Alex, it wasn't one of those
over the top let us bang out chess and go
not two, not three, not four, not three, and fireworks
and all this other stuff. You don't do that. No,
they didn't brag and say we're gonna now we dominate
and win the next five championship. None of that. That
(13:43):
doesn't fit with who they are and with what Kawhi
and Paul George are. Totally. It's the understated superstars and
the understated franchise that got something done even after giving
up their star player. You know what's or stated. I
didn't even know they were having a press conference today
until about ten minutes before it went on. I saw
(14:04):
people tweeting live on the scene. This wasn't a big show,
This wasn't a big to do. These guys were obviously
just ready to get together, get to work, and I'm
excited to see what the Clippers have going for no doubt.
All right, all the Clippers the favorite to win the
NBA title next season. We'll continue that conversation with you.
Hit us up eight seven, seven nine nine six sixty

There's a quick and easy way you could save money.
Switch to Geico. It takes only fifteen minutes to see
if you could save fifteen percent of more on car insurts.
Go to Geico dot com and see how much you
could save. It's that easy. We're asking you on this
worship Wednesday. Are the Clippers the favorite to win the
(15:30):
NBA title? Or is it the Lakers? Or is it
somebody else? Is it Toronto? Or even though they don't
have Kawhi anymore? Is it? Is it the Warriors even
though they don't have Clay Thompson? I mean, is it
the Nets even though they don't have Kevin Durant? Who
is it the Knicks? Oh? No, no no, no, no, let's
get a little distracted there. All right, let's start with
the Reggie in Virginia. You're on the odd couple of
(15:53):
Fox Sports Radio. Reggie, what's up? Yeah, man, I won't
be Watchington Wizards already know that count them? They might
win a lottery. Reggie, pathetic, that organization pathetic. Hey, I'm
still hot. When they got rid of Earl the road
tram to the Nicks, that's right, that's a long time.
And you know what, the Knicks won the championship with
Earl the pearl yn HBCU. What can I say? Yes,
(16:19):
But you know, gentlemen, I really had to say. We
have the logo of the NBA Jerry West, the King
of the making matches, and of course Doc I got
to give it up to the Clippers as the richest owner,
and they had that work in the chility. But Chris Paul.
Do you see Chris Paul making his way to the Lakers?
I hang up and listen, all right, appreciate it. I
(16:39):
don't because uh uh, you would have to take Okaye's
not they're not paying that. You know they're not. You
think you're gonna pay that kind of money. You would
have to take a significant buyout and give up a
lot of money because because they're not gonna just get
he's owed so much money. There's no way they're gonna
give them that and let him walk. Yeah, and the
(17:02):
and the Lakers don't have enough money under the cap. Yeah, no,
it doesn't work. Hey, Lan and Alabama, you're in the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up line, Rob,
p and Ah. I'm doing excellent, and I'm very very
happy that the West's stacked and the Philip I'm a
Laker fan and I've been a Laker fan since I
(17:22):
came out the wall. But the Clippers are a much
better ran organization. And what you said earlier, Rob about
the pieces that the Lakers got over the pieces that
nobody else work. Those were left over Lan anybody could
they could try to sell you about how good they are. Yes,
that's that's what that is. Because if the Lakers really
wanted Rondo and um Bookie Cousins. Yeah, well Rondo and
(17:47):
who the other the big guy was on last year,
JaVale McGee, Right, JaVale McGee, they would have resigned them
if they really right, No, no, they would day they
didn't sign them, and then they wind up coming back
to them. But but I'm not. I'm not buying the
Lakers in their moves. Appreciate the call. What about Sean
and Sacramento. You're in the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
(18:07):
What's up, Sean? What's going on? And you know what round?
I didn't even to ask you. How was the Golden
Girls crew? They already happened. No, no, no, that Don'll
be in February and I'm gonna be calling from the
cruise ship giving you updates. There'll be pictures on Instagram
with me and the hotties and uh, you know, we'll
be having dinner at four o'clock the whole nine yards. Hey, hey,
(18:32):
board man, I should have known you were gonna be
out door Valentine's Day? What am I thinking? You know exactly?
And don't let that gray hair fool you, my man.
All right, So that's all right. What you're like a
little experience exactly. They do. They know what they're doing.
They know their way around a hospital bed, I mean
(18:52):
a bed. So if I play real quick, man, I
think you happy get to the clippers of the favorite man.
They got everything going for him, defense which wins championships.
They got experienced events that are out there. They're gonna
be old bringing something to the younger guys, and they
have good coaching. But my biggest concern with them is
Kawhi has been plagued by injury the last couple of
(19:14):
years besides last year, and you guys a Paul Jordan
coming off the double shoulder surgery. So I think my
pick as far as one of the championship next year
is probably gonna be between Golden State in Houston, who
I know both had major changes on their own, but
you can't deny the chemistry of those core teams are
They're still coming back with that and after all the
experience they got to be the front runners. Sean I
(19:35):
can't buy into Golden State. Their run is all over,
and I'm not buying Houston. I don't think they got better.
I think that they're about the same as they were.
You were on air when the story broke right Brook
with the Westbrook Chris and I were both doing it.
I just with Golden State it was Jonas. I'm sorry Jonas, Chris.
They're both the same skin tone, right, same thing. Two
(19:58):
pis in the pot. I could never get those guys.
Uh yeah, Um, what was I gonna say? So Golden
say you don't buy that that. Once Clay comes back,
they could be a factor. Saw them. I saw them
this past Shield when everybody trying to sweat in the
trailblazes weren't ready for prime time. I'm talking about when
(20:19):
Chris tried to have that false narrative that he was.
He was trying to sell that they didn't need Kevin Durant.
Kevin Durant was, uh was what he called like an
extra like dressing window dress, like they didn't really need him,
that they could win a championship. They would never going
to win a championship without Kevin Durant. So I'm not
buying it. I've seen Stephan action when it comes to
(20:43):
UH winning a title when he's the lead. First of all,
he's old for eight in the last twenty seconds when
you need a basket to tie, to tie or or
to go ahead. And here's the other part. Out of
the three championships where he was the lead and now
Kevin Durant, they lost two of them, including two of
the three including a choke job of being up three
(21:03):
to one, and the one that they won, there was
no Kevin Love and no Kyrie and Andrew Gudala was
finals MVP exactly and he couldn't even win the MVP.
Listen real quick, I know we gotta need some other
cause I am mister anti Steph Curry. So I'm so
glad that I have found a companion. I think he
is a media creation. I think people like him because
he's six foot exactly. That's one. You know what else
(21:26):
it is too, It's because his wife and kids are present.
And if you criticize him, you're criticizing his family. Do
you remember when his daughter was up there at a
press conference and all that. It's all cute. I'm not
hating on the kid or anything, but this whole idea
that he's some Uh, he's that guy. He's a he's
a great shooter. He's not that guy. And I don't
(21:47):
know why people keep saying it. He had a chance
when Clay got hurt in that game six, he had
an open look. Yep, he had all one that it
was for an MBA and he didn't even need a
three when he could have taken a step and taken
it two. And he's the greatest shooter of all time,
that's what they claim he is not. Let's squeeze one
more in what about Rob and Anaheim? You're on the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up Rob? Yeah?
(22:09):
What's up? Guys? A before I get to my point?
Y'all crazy man, I'm a Laker fan. I would kill
to have Step pretty greatest shooter of all time. So
to minimize him, yeah, they killed of them. But yeah,
but I'm asking you how come he can't make a
big shot when it matters. He has throughout the playoffs.
I mean, he's old for eight, oh for eight in
the final twenty seconds with a chance to tiele win.
(22:32):
What part don't you he's oh for eight? Rob? Did
you hear me? What part don't you understand, oh for eight,
that's the greatest shooter of all time. I take Ray
Allen any day. I like it. Reggie Miller, go ahead, Rob,
you got your point and you're done. But get to
the Rockets side. I think uh much of the pay
me say. I think Westbrook UH pickup is going to
(22:53):
be massive. And I think with p PG and Kawhi
injury prone and unfortunately for our laker, our Lakers lab
on in the ad, neither can stay healthy. I think
to pick up a Westbrook mint, UH utilizes Harden a
lot more and they can Did the Rockets get a
new coach? Did the Rockets get a new coach? Iause
Dan Tony? He can't win? You do you remember Phoenix?
(23:15):
You remember all of course, all those teams that win
sixty games a year. Do you remember that he can
never win? Warn't in the way anymore? So I think
the years knock off anybody winning. Rob, thanks for the call.
The Warriors weren't in the way this year because Kadie
got hurt. Charles Barkley went on national television and said
that there's no way the Warriors could win without Kevin Durant.
(23:35):
And what did the Rockets do? They lost the game
that Durant got heard and then lost at home in
Game six. Stop it not buying it? All right? The
basketball conversation will continue with the NBA champion Eddie House,
my man, that's why he joins his next but first,
be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussar and Rob Parker week days at seven
(23:57):
pm Eastern, four pm Pacific. It's the Yad Couple. Fox
Sports Radio eron tours in for Chris Bussard on a
Louvak Rob Parker, and we're coming to you live from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say
fifteen percent of more in cornsturance with Geico. Go to
Geico dot com or call eight hundred nine four seven auto.
(24:17):
The only hard part is figuring out which is easier.
Next up is one of our favorite people. That's right,
Eddie House, NBA champion, FS one NBA analysts and if
you want to hit them up on Twitter, it's at
Eddie Eddie House Underscore fifty. What's up, Eddie? How you
(24:38):
what's happening? How are you doing? Man? Doing great? Say
hi to Aaron Torres, what's happening? What's going on. All
is good. We saw the big press conference today the Clippers.
You know what's understated. It really fit who they are,
what they're doing, and the two stars they have, Eddie,
I like that team a lot. I think they're gonna
(24:59):
win in the NBA Championship. That's where I'm all the
way out on the limb already. Tell me about them.
Do you like those two guys going and add being
added to the team that they already had in place. Yeah,
I love those two guys being added. Number one doctors
a defensive first team, so the teams are gonna play
hard defense. I don't think there's gonna be a better backcourt.
(25:20):
A defensive backcourt. Probably you could probably stay up there
with Jordan Pippin and Ron Harper as hard and scrappy
as these guys. Guys are going to be, and that's
Paul George being one of the best two way players,
Kawhi Leonard probably be best two way player, and then
Patrick Beverley being the point guard position. It's gonna be
tough for the perimeters of of every team that they
(25:41):
play in the NBA for them for those perimeter players
to get off. I like their chances a lot moving forward.
I like, I like those two guys being added. They
can score. They're not just defensive specialists. These guys are
two way players that can score. So they're gonna make
a lot of noise because they're gonna be able to
stop guys in the night out and on the flip side,
(26:01):
he's gonna be tough for guys to stop everybody. Those
two guys on the flip side. Now ed he helped
me out. Uh, How did what did Kawhi do to
stop Yannis? Nobody could stop Jannis all year? He's shot
over sixty percent from the field, and all of a sudden,
Kawhi gets on him and he shoots thirty five percent.
(26:22):
What did what exactly did Kawhi do? And defensively, well,
we'll talking about what Kawhi did first, but it wasn't
just Kawhi. This was a total team effort. But what
Kawhi did was at times Kawhi just took up his
space and forced him to finish left. He understood that
he loved to drive right and then get back to
the spin, or drive left and come back to the spin.
And when they when he was forcing him into those
(26:44):
plays that help defend. Defenders were right there for for Toronto.
Toronto had a hell of a game plan. And then
what Kawhi does this. He has the length, he has
the hand strength, and he's also really really strong. I
mean we've seen that in the finals, how all those
and ones he was getting high. He was having guys
bouncing off of him. So he's underrated on how strong
(27:04):
he is. So he made it tough for y'all, Bob
not only being strong but but also being as not
as long, but just as long right there with him
on to contest any kind of shots and then forcing
them into the health Eddie. We hear all the time
that Doc Rivers is kind of a I don't know
if players coach is the right word, but a guy
that that's the right word. Oh yeah, And I was
gonna ask you you played for him, you were in
(27:24):
those locker rooms. What is it that makes vets love
playing for this guy? Well, because he takes in consideration
your body. Some coaches just gonna run their regiment, run
their plan. This is how it goes, and they're gonna
run you into the ground, and then you get Sometimes
you get guys that get a little Animoski behind that
where the coach doesn't recognize, hey, we're kind of tired.
We had four and five nights. You know, give us
(27:45):
a day off, just you know, we'll come back with professionals,
will get or just have a day when we come
and watch film and we'll get shots up. Treat us
as professionals. That's what Doc does. Doc has the ear
of his locker room and the pulse of his locker room.
If guys, he listens to his players. If guys like
coach Coach has been one of those rough ones, especially
if not all you can't do it with a young
team has to be a veteran team, especially a team
(28:06):
that's that's that's what that's gonna be a winning team
usually that's what veteran teams are. And so he listens
to guys in that way to where days you need
to just get off your legs. It's been a little struggle.
It's a grind dog days of February or January as well,
he'll find little pockets there to where he listens to
his guys and gives time off and he's just fun
(28:27):
like that. He makes you also think the game. It
was a lot of times we have practice and five
guys on one team will draw Each guy will get
an opportunity to draw up a play at last second place,
to just to make guys think, everybody think, to try
to get on the same page and just see who
also has the mind to be out there to create
mismatches and understand exactly what he's looking for as a coach.
(28:48):
So he did a little fun things within the game.
I mean, great coach. I can't say enough about him.
It's ci couple Fox Sports radio guests Eddie House of course,
NBA champ and FS one NBA analysts Paul George at
the press conference said something that I thought was a
little lame. He said that he was a Kobe fan,
but a Clippers fan. Are you buying that, Eddie? How
(29:10):
could that be? How could you be a Kobe fan
but you're but you're a Clippers fan. Maybe because he's
in LA he didn't like he liked the Clippers then
Kobe was. I don't know. That doesn't make sense to me,
because usually if you're a fan of a player, you're
a fan of that team as well. I've never been
a you know, I mean except this, I was never
(29:30):
when I'm a fan of Ricky Henderson. But I wasn't
a Yankee fan or a Mets fan, but I was
a fan of Ricky Henderson. I could see it happening
like that, but not not a guy has been not
when he's been with the team forever, never seen it. Yeah,
that that doesn't make sense. You want to switch to
baseball real quick, don't we? No, I was gonna say.
I heard he was a big baseball fan, so I
was gonna say, what was it? Twins Yankees? Last day?
(29:50):
I was gonna ask you about the catch that Aaron
Hicks made. Were two outs in the bases loaded? How
big of a did you see that? Eddie? I actually
didn't see that. No, well what happened? Oh my god,
you gotta will Google to go to YouTube. Bases loaded,
two outs to the crazy game. It was the final,
fourteen to twelve and the Twins. I mean, if that
(30:12):
ball gets by them, they win the game. He makes
a diving catch in left center field to end the game.
You gotta watch it. I'm gonna take it. I was
too busy watching the A's last night. Man get that wins,
even though they failed at the Astros today. But I
was watching the ads get that win last night. Man,
no doubt all the Yankees the best team in baseball
the Dodgers, because the Yankees continue to win despite all
the injuries. The Dodgers and Yankees. Who do you have
(30:36):
right now as the best team in the league. I
go the Dodgers. I'll tell you. Their pitching staff is
a whole lot. I believe it's a lot better than
the Yankees. But there's not a hole in the Yankees lineup.
You got four guys hitting two ninety five or better.
I mean, when you got that, there's there's guys that
are getting on base. And then they got guys that
are hitting home runs. And we're not gonna talk about
(30:56):
two of their main hitters that they got this death
on the d right now, Gardner and Sanchez. When they
get back, the lineup gets even more dangerous. Gregorious is
just now starting to get into a stride because he
was coming off, and I mean, I don't see it's
not a hole in that lineup. I don't it's dangerous.
It's extremely I was watching the game where they were playing,
uh was it? Uh? I forget who they were playing,
(31:19):
but they were they were down. Oh the Tampa Bay
last week they were down by one run, two outs
in the eighth. Judge hits a two run shots in
the basis get Juice, gregorys goose Yard and line up.
It was a man, I'm like, man, just that's fast.
That's how fast this lineup is. That's how dangerous this
lineup is. That it's gonna be tough any opposing picture
it will be. And we're gonna get you on the
(31:40):
Baseball Podcast because Eddie House is a big baseball film.
We talk baseball the time. Eddie will do that. Always
a pleasure, Thank you, my man, and we'll get you
on Inside the Parker coming up. All right for sure, man,
thanks for having me all right always, that's right, Eddie House.
All right. If he keeps, if he keeps this pace up,
(32:01):
is he gonna find himself mentioned amongst the all time greats.
I'll tell you who that is. Next. It's the Odd
Couple with Aaron Torres in for Chris Bussard right here
on Fox Sports Radio. Who me. Fox Sports Radio has
the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all
of our shows at Fox sports Radio dot com and
within the iHeart Radio app search f SR to listen live.
(32:25):
It's the odd couple. Fox Sports Radio Aaron Torres in
for Chris Bussar, Rob Parker, and as you know, I
have a podcast called Inside the Parker, which is a
all Major League Baseball podcast. I'm enjoying it, loving it, wow,
and we're giving you a sample of it. This is
(32:46):
our segment called getting Robbed Better to lead off. It's
getting robbed didn't keep him on. Rob's hot take on
the three biggest stories in Major League Baseball. Number one
astro rookie sensation Jordan Alvarez has been incredible. I mean,
this guy's rookie season has been one for the ages.
(33:11):
Coming into Tuesday, Alvarez had thirty five RBIs in his
first thirty games. Guess who's record he broke by doing that.
Albert Poolholz, who had thirty four runs in his first
thirty games. Unbelievable. People are talking about this guy as
(33:33):
the future star of baseball and what he's been able
to do, and he does mirror a lot like Albert
Poolhols in that Poolhols also debuted at twenty one years
old like Alvarez, and is an outfielder. Poolhols in two
thousand and one, he was the National League Rookie of
the Year, and he capped an unbelievable rookie season hitting
(33:56):
three twenty nine. He had thirty seven home runs in
one hundred and thirty RBIs and he scored one hundred
and twelve runs. And Alvarez is on pace. Are you
ready for this? To hit three fifteen, thirty four home runs,
one hundred RBIs and looks like he should or will
(34:18):
win the AL Rookie of the League, Rookie of the Year,
I should say if that were to keep up, and
some people are going as far to say he should
be in the running for the MVP of the American
League with the season that he has put together so far.
So here it is the Houston Astros who put together
a lot of young players, they developed, they won a
(34:40):
World Series, and yes they have another star in their hands.
Alvarez has been incredible. If you haven't paid attention, you
need to focus on left field, you need to focus
at the plate and watch Alvarez hit and play baseball
for the Houston Nash Number two. On Sunday, Mariano Rivera,
(35:05):
the Yankees star stud closer, was inducted to the Baseball
Hall of Fame, the first unanimously elected by the Baseball
Writers Association of America. And people didn't think it would
be possible because there's always a guy who holds out
a vote or doesn't vote for somebody. And since it
hadn't happened before, and so many other great players have
(35:27):
gone into the Hall, people thought that it wouldn't happen
in this case. But Mariano becomes the first player to
ever go in with one percent of the vote, and
he deserves it. I'm here to tell you that in
pro sports, nobody, nobody ever had a more perfect career
(35:48):
than Mariano Rivera. And I'm not saying it was perfection.
Yes he lost game Jesse Blue saves in big moments, Yes,
there were things like that, But when you take a
look at his over all scope and overall career, he
was never bad. A major League record six hundred and
fifty two saves. He also helped the Yankees win five
(36:11):
World Series. I doubt that the Yankees would have won
all five of those without Marianod. That's how big he was.
And when you really take a look at what he
was able to do with that cut fastball, that cutter
that everybody knew what was coming, yet they couldn't hit it.
Here's why I say, I think he had an almost
perfect career and probably one of the best careers ever
(36:34):
in the history of pro sports, not just baseball. His
career two point two one RAY and his one point
zero zero whip or the lowest in the live ball
era amongst qualified pitchers. You heard me, Nobody in the
history of baseball has a lower r RAY or lower whip.
(36:58):
He also in the season has the record for the
lowest r in the postseason with a zero point seven
zero r. Just phenomenal. It's incredible to come into those
kind of pressure situations and be able to produce the
way that he did. Marianna Rivera the first ever unanimous
(37:23):
in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and you know what
he deserves it number three. The Commissioner of Baseball, Rob Manford,
was in Los Angeles on Tuesday at the Big press
conference that announced that the Los Angeles Dodgers will have
a one hundred million dollars renovation to Dodger Stadium, which
(37:43):
is the National league second oldest ballpark behind Wrigley Field,
and also that the twenty twenty renovations will proceed the
All Star Game, which will be held at Dodger Stadium
for the first time since eighty Is that incredible? So
the Dodgers will have the Midsummer Classic at a ballpark that,
(38:08):
in all reality is great the way it's already set up.
It's great that they're adding money to it. They'll never
rebuild it. People love Dodgers Stadium. They flock to Dodgers Stadium.
But here we go. Dodgers Stadium will be spruced up
and all of the country will be able to enjoy it.
For the Baseball All Star Game next July in Los Angeles,
(38:31):
way way overdue, kind of like the Dodgers winning another
World Series since it hasn't happened since nineteen eighty eight.
But here we are, the Dodgers All Star Game twenty
twenty in Los Angeles. It sounds great. Can't wait. The
podcast is called Inside the Parker drop today every Wednesday,
(38:55):
and Aaron, you have a podcast as well. I want
people to at least listen, rate and subscribe to Inside
the Parker. Mine is the Aeron Torres Sports podcast. Tomorrow,
Tyler Hero, the Miami Heat first round draft pick, is
my guest, talk a lot about Summer League All kinds
of good stuff. Does he play hero ball on though?
Oh yeah, okay, of course that's who are sure? All right?
(39:15):
So there you go. There is your podcast. Here's my podcast,
so much more coming up. It is The Odd Couple
Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker, Aeron Torres in for Chris Brussard.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
(39:35):
iHeartRadio app. This is The Odd Couple. Aaron Torres filling
in for Chris Brusard. I am here alongside Rob Parker,
and of course we're coming to you live from the
Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes could save you
fifteen percent or more on carn shirts. Visit geico dot
com for a free raked quote Rob Parker. Of course,
(39:59):
the base Spall Hall of Fame Voter Hall of Fame
inductions last weekend. I think we got to talk about
a guy that's not in the Hall of Fame though,
and I actually kind of want your opinion on that too,
But it's Barry Bonds. Barry Bond's fifty fifth birthday today
that's a big one. Double nickels. The double nickels for
the home run King, or at least I guess by technicality,
(40:21):
and the record book sees the home run King. Some
would disagree. We're gonna get to that in a minute.
But first, Barry Bonds the historic moment. Let's remember that
the Bonds seven fifty six bomb stands old is out
(40:51):
on top all the all time home run was tell
me that you didn't get goose bumps? I did? You
did call? There's nothing, but did you hear that crowd?
I heard the crack of the bat. It was it
was unbelievable. That's one of those moments that you remember
watching and it was unbelievable. That video or that audio,
(41:13):
by the way, was courtesy of Fox Sports Net. And
of course it was an iconic moment. Like you said,
it was a great call, iconic moment. Barry Bonds in
the record books, home run King. There's just one problem
as we celebrate his fifty fifth birthday today. As you said,
the double nickel rob bud Sea League. So this story
(41:33):
came out last week. Bud Sea League was on Dan
Patrick and Dan Patrick ast him point blank. Do you
consider Barry Bonds to be the home run king. This
is what Bud se League said, who do you consider
the all time home run king? Well, I've never really
answered that, but but I will say this to you.
In my mind, even though Bonds holds to record and
(41:56):
I've said records are records, I think you know how
I feel like Henry Aaron. So Henry Aaron's the all
time home run king in your opinion? Yes, I just
I'm sorry. This is where Bud Silly strikes out. Seriously,
how could a commissioner with a guy who set the
(42:17):
record and whatever you want you want to say Bonds
took HGH whatever five never tested positive during his playing career,
just didn't. It's a fact number two. How dare Bud
Sealick say he's not when you open up the baseball
record book, he is number two, Bud sealk So the
(42:40):
World Series that the Yankees and Red Sox one win,
Big Poppy and David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez and Jason
Giambian and Roger Clemens, how come those count? Did those?
How come those count? Aaron? Could somebody explain to me
why we just pick on the Barry Bonds? Mark McGuire Sammy,
(43:00):
So why don't we just pick on them? Can I
want me to go deeper? Go ahead? Also the managers
that they put in the Hall of Fame. Tony LaRussa
man manage steroid guys, helped to win, but it didn't
stop him from getting into the Hall of Fame. Why
doesn't his wins aren't there? How come they're not tainted?
Joe Torres in the Hall of Fame? Can I go on?
(43:21):
I mean, it's just preposterous. Take away to Yankees championships.
Take away the Red Sox, take away Joe tories wins.
Take away Tony Larussa's wins. If you're gonna do this,
you can't pick a couple of people. And we know it.
He used to own the Brewers. He loves Hank Aaron.
Hank Aaron was a great player. He's not and Ot
(43:44):
the home run King. Barry Bonds is. Well, here's my question.
When you it's exactly what you said to open up.
When you open up the record book, whose name is
at the top of the list, it's Barry Bonds. And
by the way, when did Barry Bonds play when Bud
Seek was commission right, you could have stepped in then
you could have stopped him. And I know and listen,
if you listen to these conversations with Bud Seeley, you
(44:06):
know that he does his whole thing where we couldn't
get steroid testing in through the union. And there's all
these reasons that it didn't happen. But you were a
commissioner when he was pursuing this record, when he passed
this record. If you had such a problem, you could
have stopped him, and you didn't. And don't forget for
people who have short memories that Mark McGuire and Sammy
(44:29):
Social saved baseball after the strike when they came back
the whole country people, do you remember the cut ins
when those guys were coming up the bat during I
don't care what game you were watching, am I right?
They cut in on every at bad? What are you
talking about? And to act like bonds? Bonds won three
(44:49):
MVPs in Pittsburgh before he even went to San Francisco,
and he wind up winning seven. Here's the Barry Bonds
quiz I want everybody to take while you're drive in
or listening whatever. How many times in his career did
Barry Bonds hit over fifty home runs? How many times
one time, thank you. I only know that because I
(45:10):
heard the Dan Patrick interview live and it was a
reference in the interview. I couldn't believe it when I
heard that, because everybody thinks that once he started taking HGH,
he was hitting fifty home runs every season. The one
year was a year at the seventy three. That's it.
I know he never hit over fifty other than that
one year. So all I'm saying is, you can't pick
and choose. That's what If we had tested every player
(45:32):
in the Major league during the major leagues during that era,
and Bonds, Clemens, and Sosa maguire were the only ones
who tested positive, then I'm with you. I guarantee you.
If you were to go back and somehow we could
do DNA and figure out who was exactly, we would
find out that seventy five put the son of the
league probably was either on it or tried it. Sure,
(45:56):
here's my question, and I hate to be smirched the
good name of an old old man. How do we
know Henry Aaron wasn't doing anything? Like where do you
draw the line where Barry Bonds bad guy? Like you said?
Are we now? Is Roger Merris the single season home
run king. How do we know he didn't do anything?
You don't know exactly. And here's the other part two
(46:17):
that people just when you talk about this, I want
people to do their homework and do their research. More
pitchers have been caught on steroid and the jews and hitters.
So most of the time Barry Bonds was probably on
equal footing because guys were using it. We are petted
(46:40):
Clemens right, all these there's a whole list the Mitchell Report, Aaron.
There are one hundred and fifty one hundred and seventy
five names of guys who tested positive or or admitted
to use who we don't They don't even have their names.
Some of those guys were in the Hall of Fame.
It's a joke, it really is. And if you him
look at Barry Bonds when he played and not think
(47:04):
he's one of the greatest players you ever saw, He's
the greatest player I ever saw. He could steal, he
could he could field, he could hit for power. He
for average one year he had over two hundred and
twenty five walks. He used to get one or two
pitches a game to hit, and one would be in
a he s in a U cove cob covey cove
(47:26):
in the water. I'm with you. I just wonder. I
just keep thinking to myself do people still not recognize
him as a home run kid. I don't know if
it's just a bud Sea Lake thing because of his
relationship with Hank Aaron. But it was a bizarre comments.
I mean, I actually read the book. I actually read
Bud Seeley's book. I found most of it interesting. I
was actually believing or not a huge baseball fan when
(47:47):
I was a kid. Ken Griffe junior my favorite athlete,
and I grown up in Connecticut. It was Ken Griffy.
Hum never if he if it's Griffy God, yeah, that's
but um he wanted to be in if in Cincinnati.
That was the only bat you know for good years.
You know those years will wasted and since because for
lack of a better term, he probably wasn't one of
the guys taking something by the way, unrelated. I see
(48:09):
Reddy Johnson around my neighborhood from time to time. Really yeah,
he's just hanging out and does his photography whatever. But
don't talk back to me. Classic yeah, and get that
out of my face. Huh. You knew he wasn't gonna
last in New York the second he saw that. And
so with the Sea Lake stuff. He's very outspoken about
his relationship with Hank Aaron. It is personal. But I
(48:32):
just draw the line in. You can't, like you said,
you can't pick and choose what you wanna enforce, what
you don't, What records stand, what records don't. Who was clean,
who wasn't. Who do you think was clean who wasn't.
That's where my thing is. Steroids. There wasn't testing for
a good part of Bonds's career, even when he even
when they tested, he didn't pat he didn't, he wasn't positive.
(48:55):
I'm with you, Ed, Bud sea Lake was the commissioner.
It's like he retired thirty years earlier and he's watch
it from the couch. See. This is the part that
I and here's the other part. If you're gonna say
that Bud sealing, then Baseball should refund people their money
who watch Bonds. All of that money should be refunded.
If you're telling me it didn't count and it's not real.
Huh right? Sure, okay, And the Yankees should return their championships,
(49:18):
so should the Red Sox and any other team that
won during that era who had a player who was suspected,
busted whatever word you want to use, should you want
to do that? No, the only players they pick on
on the home run hitters. And I and I get it.
Hank Aaron was a hero to a lot of people.
But you can't have it both ways. I'm sorry, Hank
(49:41):
is not the home run king anymore. He's not, and
for people to try to act like he is, and well,
I still recognize Hank Aron. I think that's child I
think that's childhood. And you know this because you were
in baseball clubhouses throughout the eighties, nineties, whatever. There was
amphetamines right like inmphetamines deal. I mean there was also
even before the kind of quote unquote steroid craze that
(50:03):
came in with Jose Canseco and all them in the
late eighties, early nineties, mid nineties whatever, people have been
taking stuff forever. I mean, it's a lot to play
one hundred sixty two games middle of the summer, it's hot,
you travel, its not good, and it allows you to
stay on the field. Of course, it's a it's a
it's it rejuvenates you. It freshens you. It doesn't eye
(50:27):
hand coordination, the whole idea. That's why pictures use it,
because you know what I mean, they need to be
fresh to be able to go back out there and
throw ninety or one hundred miles an hour. So this
whole notion that if you it's a magical elixus or
and if you take it, you have to have talent.
There's plenty of guys who got busted in the minor
leagues who never made the major league. You know why,
because they weren't good enough. If they if they were
(50:49):
good enough, if if if the steroids or HGH made
you that they would have been in the major league,
they'd never made it. They were not good enough. So
this whole notion that Bonds isn't a home run king
is one of the worst takes. And for Bud Selick
to go on and say that is bad, well, in
fact really bad his friendship with Hank Aaron that shouldn't matter.
(51:11):
And he goes, WHOA, No, it's in the record book,
that's the record. What are you talking about? Since when
real quick you are a Hall of Fame voter, I
would assume you vote for all these guys yes, I do.
The only guys I don't vote for guys who got
busted after they changed the rules. Okay, so before that,
it would be like the state of California, all right
(51:32):
for people who drove, say in the seventies, and they
sent you tickets home, not you you're too young, but
say they sent me tickets and said, we're giving you
tickets for driving without a seatbelt because we knew back
in the seventies you didn't have you didn't wear a seatbelt. Sure,
that's exactly what it is, you know what I mean, Like,
I'm penalizing you because I know you were doing something
(51:54):
when we weren't looking for that. That makes no sense. Yeah,
is there anybody so who would be the guys that
busted after like a rod manny Manny Yeah, um, I'm
just curious. Yeah, Paul Merrow, Sure those guys got busted
after the fact. So those are the guys who you
have to take a look at. Mynie thing is uh,
(52:14):
you have to there's an eye test, and there's nobody
who was marginal who got in because they do you
know what I mean, because they had they used HGH
one season. You could say, oh that guy had had
a really great one year over two years. That's not
that's not gonna get you into the Hall of Fame.
So you haven't voted for Brady Anderson yet that one season.
(52:34):
There's guys who have had seasons like that, even way
before that. Go look up Davy Johnson. Davy Johnson played
with the Atlanta Braves and like U, seventy three or
seventy four, he went from the year before with the Orioles,
I think it was the Orioles, he had five home runs.
The next year in Atlanta he had thirty nine or
thirty seven home run He went from five to thirty
(52:56):
seven or thirty nine. What wouldn't you take a look
and goal, how'd that happened? Didn't Brett Boone have one
of those years too? Yet forty eight you have one?
And maybe that was a year. Like I say, you
feel refreshed, you feel rejuvenated. It allows you to to, yeah,
be on the field, beyond the field and feel good
every day. And I get that. But this is the
(53:17):
interesting part here. Today Barry Bonds is fifty fifth birthday,
sending out the shout out to, of course, the home
run King of Major League Baseball and is Barry Bonds,
the home run King eight seven seven nine sixty three
sixty nine. That's eight hundred eight eight seven seven ninety nine.
On Fox. I'm giving out another number. It's not trigonometry.
(53:39):
That's right. We'll continue the conversation next with you. It's
The Odd Couple. Eron Torres in for Chris Broussard right
here on Fox Sports Radio. Keep it locked. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris
Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern, four
pm Pacific. It's The Odd Couple. Aaron Torres filling in
(54:01):
for Chris Brusar Rob Parker joining us. This segment brought
to you by Little Caesar's, where you can get a
large extra most best is stuffed crust Pepperoni pizza for
only nine dollars and only at Little Caesar's. Plus tax
were applicable and it's available at participating locations. Rob Parker,
(54:24):
it is Barry Bond's fifty fifth birthday double nickel and
for people just joining us. Bud Sea League. Last week
on Dan Patrick critical of Barry Bonds, saying that he
did not believe that Barry Bonds is the actual home
run king, which is blast from me. I listen, I'm
(54:45):
with you. I wonder if the callers feel the same way.
We got loaded lines ron in Texas? What do you
have to say about Bonds? Hey, what's good? Fellas? What's good? Raw?
How you love the show? Thank you, buddy? Remember Bronx too,
from Living Texas, but from the Bronx later Clippers. That's right,
(55:07):
I got you, I remember it, yes, sir, okay, Well
my point for baseball though, being a lifelong Yankee fan,
you absolutely correct. Barns is absolutely the whole round king
because it was probably five to one for pictures versus
you know, regular batters in that era, you know, as
far as the ones that was getting caught. And you know,
(55:27):
just because you take the stuff don't mean you're gonna
be good. If you can remember pose Conseco's twin brother,
Ozzie Ye couldn't hitting the bacage. He lived just like Henseco.
They saw the muscles, they called him off. I think
he played for the Cardinal. You're absolutely right, and he wasn't.
He was right. He got cut right away because he
(55:47):
couldn't hit out of the bankcage. He's big, he was big, strong, muscular.
They thought they were getting another Conseco, but they got nothing.
Great point, no doubt about it. When I woke up
to that, I think we'll be talking as God eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox Michael and North Carolina.
You're up. So I have three really quick points. I
(56:11):
wanted to say, um when Rob said before that he
would demand money back for all the fans if we're
not going to count Barry bonds home run record. I
agree with counting his record. However, if there was a
boxing match and one boxer won the match and was
found out later to be disqualified because he was using
(56:33):
weighted gloves, would you then turn around and give all
the fans that were in attendance their money back? Would
you if basically, if if a boxer was cheating. Your
point was, if Barry Bonds really was cheating, we're not
acknowledging him, fans should get their money. Yeah, I'm saying
if the commissioner is going to say that he's not
the guy, yeah, you should get it. Would be on
the false pretenses. All would be fraud, sumer fraud. So
(56:56):
would it be the same for a boxing match that
would be different. I don't know, because that would be
I guess, flat out cheating. And I guess they could
determine take the win away and then determine whether or
not people should get their money back or if people
demanded their money back because they didn't see a fair fight,
I guess they could. My point is that bud Sealer
could say in that then and then baseball should give
(57:17):
people back their money. Should since you're telling me what
I watched, we heard the crowd? Did you hear a
crowd when you get the big home run? Did you
hear the people there? Sure you think that that you're
gonna tell him now that that didn't count? It didn't
come with you. It's ridiculous and it's and it's the
part that gets me. He was the acting commissioner, and
then he brings his personal friendship with us, Like like
(57:38):
if someone's talking about you know, Rob Parker versus somebody,
I'm like, what I would? I would? You know, what
do they say in court you have to like disclude
yourself or something. Then if you have a personal relationship,
you can't be and you can't give you an honest
thing and be like, no, who is a home run? King? Yes,
because it counts. What do you mean it counts? But
(57:58):
also he said, I'm friends with friends with Hank Aaron.
So let's get to Jason in Dallas. I think you
have somethime Pete Rose, Jason, you there, yes, yes? Or hey?
Since you vote on the Hall of Fame, and how
prevalent gambling has become. Now, I was wondering what you
thought about Pete Rose. And if you think he'll ever
(58:19):
get in. No, he'll never get in. And Pete Rose
doesn't deserve to be in. And Jason, here's the problem.
The difference between the steroid era and the whole gambling
is Pete Rose walked into a clubhouse every day for
twenty some odd years and there's a big, huge sign
in the clubhouse that says if you could get if
you gamble on baseball, you'll be banned for a lot.
That's what it tells. There was never anything like that
(58:41):
about steroids. There were never even any tests. And then
Pete Rose lied for fourteen years to everybody that he
didn't do it, even though they had mountains of evidence
at the headquarters at the Major League Baseball and Pete Rose.
Here's how Pete Rose messed with the integrity of the game.
And this is what this is what the argument for
people for a lot of long time. Well, he never
(59:02):
bet against the Reds, right, he never bet against him
to lose. So I used just say, well, imagine Pete
Roses managing. He has a big bet on the game,
but he has a double head of tomorrow. He blows
out his bullpend Sir, trying to win that game because
he has money on it. Has he affected the integrity tomorrow?
Of course, yes he has. So that's why you can't
(59:23):
allow gambling. All right, Next up, Marcus Illinois. Is Barry
Bonds the home run King? Yes he is. I agree,
Barry Bonds is the home run king. And I just
got one other point. I just never seen him put
that same asterisk by Mark McGuire on a single season
home round record. When they speak on him, they always
(59:45):
say he is, you know, the single season home run guy. Yeah,
but he didn't get it. He didn't get it. He's
already done. He can't get into the Hall of Fame.
And Bonds and Clements still have time. I believe that
Bonds and Clements will get in under the wire, But
Mark McGuire's time has already come. And gone. And I
think what they did to Mark McGuire was disgraceful. Mark McGuire,
(01:00:06):
go Google and look up. Ay when he set the
rookie record that Judge broke a couple years ago, forty
nine home runs. He was. He was a straw, a stick.
Go look, he was a stick figure at number two
at usc Marcus. Mark McGuire was a home run hitter
in college. Go look it didn't. It wasn't some magical
(01:00:28):
o Lisa that made him. He was always a home
run hitter and had that swing even back in college. Okay,
all right, appreciate your call. Last one, Curtis in Charlotte
is Barry Bonds the home run King? Yeah, without a doubt.
And I'm glad you guys are talking about this. Not
only is he the home run King, he's the greatest
hitter in the history of Curtis. You're right, I've never
(01:00:51):
seen a better player, have you, No, not at all.
And and in fact, Roger Clemson is the greatest pitcher
I've ever seen as well. So the fact that those
guys are not in the Hall of Fame is absolutely ridiculous.
You know, you guys have made a lot of great
points But one other one is that with those two guys,
the whole federal government, the prosecution went after these guys
(01:01:14):
to try to accuse them of lying to Congress and
all these other things. And they've never been convicted of anything,
right because not only did they not test positive, but
they but all the weight of the federal government against them,
and they and they and they've come out clean every
single time. Absolutely, How you can keep them out? No,
I think they're both gonna eventually get in. But great call, Curtis,
(01:01:37):
Thanks for it. I don't disagree with anything that most
of the callers said. I'm with you. I think they're
gonna get in both. I do think both will get
in under the water those two players. Yes, you cannot dismits.
You can't have a Baseball Hall of Fame without having
those guys in. Yeah, And I think it's what you said.
Barry Bond's three MVPs before there was any inclination that
(01:01:57):
he may be doing something. Roger Clemens really successful with
the Red Sox as well, and he won He won
seven cy Youngs and Bonds won seven m VP. Both
of those got unbelievable two of the greats of all
time We're gonna talk next about one of the great
quarterbacks of all time. Although Rob, you said yesterday Tom
Brady literally falling off a cliff. We'll see if the
(01:02:17):
Hall of Famer Warren Moon agrees with you. Fox Sports
Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.
Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot Com

This is the Odd Couple. Aaron Torres filling in for
Chris Bruce Sar, joined of course by Rob Parker. This
(01:02:39):
segment brought to you by Geico. We, of course, are
in the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to
say fifteen percent or more on car insurance with Geico.
Go to Geico dot com or call one eight hundred
and nine four seven Auto. The only hard part figuring
out which way is easier. The Hall of Famer Warren Moon.
We will get him momentarily, Rob. Yesterday we were talking
(01:03:01):
about this pole by the Athletic and you and I
spent a lot of time talking about it. They have
quarterbacks broken into tiers and Tom Brady behind Aaron Rodgers.
Not my problem with the pole. I had no problem
with Aaron Rodgers being number one. My problem was this
quote from an anonymous GM saying that Aaron Rodgers does
(01:03:26):
more with less in a way that Brady and no
other quarterback in the league would be able to do.
I find that preposterous. Brady has played with one Hall
of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss, a Hall of Famer,
and Gronk, and then a lot of guys that Bill
Belichick pulled up off the scrap heap. He's had great players.
Now Ibody tries to make it like he's had some
great defensive players. Would you admit that, Sure, Aaron Rodgers
(01:03:50):
had Clay Clay Matthews almost called him Clay Thompson. Matthews, Oh,
oh you know you saw me almost triped. I did, listen.
I got Clay on my BA. I'm saying is they
always try to make like everybody who's who Brady throws
two was working at seven eleven a night before and
they got him in and he didn't know the plays,
and Brady made these guys and the all legendary players.
(01:04:10):
Stop it. We're giving Brady too much credit. These guys
are football players. They played before. There's Tom Brady wasn't
the first over wasn't the first round pick, So so
why is it that, uh the Brady, Oh, this guy
was drafting in a fourth round, this guy was drafting
a sixth round, this guy was undrafted. Undrafted guys and
guys who weren't drafted in the top rounds have made
(01:04:31):
big contributions in the NFL. So why are we so
shocked by it? I'm just saying, first of all, Chris
Hogan literally playing lacrosse out in the back in Foxborough.
Did he play football before that? He never had never
touched the pick skin before that. If Tom Brady made
Aaron Torres, uh you you didn't see me back in
(01:04:53):
the say I was play running back. I actually played
defensive end, believe it or not. I was a little undersized,
but I was. Yeah, listen, I grew up in Connecticut.
We're not exactly six five exactly falling off the tree here,
so you know, listen offensive and I'd be like the
last position I would though, really yeah, no, you know,
I used to be a little bit bigger, better today. Yeah,
(01:05:14):
a little a little heavier, you know, I'm on you know,
i'd so I had a trimmed down a little bit here,
But I just think that this idea that Tom Brady
is doing it with all this talent around him, I
just don't buy it. By the way, another thing that
came out of this pole was Patrick Mahomes. It was
fascinating to me to read the different kind of commentary
(01:05:35):
on Patrick Mahomes because it ranged from one extreme to
the other. We had an anonymous exact say that Patrick
Mahomes might be the best ever. And I want to
transition now to another quarterback who best ever? I was
gonna say, he will have better insight than I will.
He is, of course, the Pro Football Hall of Famer
Warren Moon. You can follow him on Twitter at w
(01:05:58):
Moon one. Warren, how you doing? See what's up? Warren?
As all you doing? Great to talk to you again,
as always, no doubt about it. Thank you for joining us. Warren.
Let's start right there, Patrick Mahomes. So everyone, year two,
tell it, take us in that huddle. Year two, when
people have film on you, how much harder is it
to you for you to put up the same production
(01:06:18):
you did when people aren't as aware of your talent. Well,
it's gonna be a little bit harder, there's no question
about it. But guy, either guy has so much talent,
first of all, and he also has great weapons around him,
and he has a great play caller in Andy Reid,
So he's got a lot of good things going for him.
And I think one thing Andy Reid is going to
be able to do is make sure he doesn't get,
(01:06:40):
you know, typecast in a way where he's where he's
just calling the same type of plays for him. He'll
keep things fresh and innovative, and I think that'll help
Patrick too. But yes, it will be a little bit
tougher in year two of starting a complete season because
last year was a second year, but he didn't really
play much in his first year, so this is really
(01:07:01):
his second year coming up, and we'll see how teams
adjust to him. But again, Andy Reid is gonna be
a big part of that. But and then the weapons
that he has, especially with Tyreek Hill being able to
come back now and not be suspended, you're gonna have
all those weapons out on the field again. So he's
gonna be He's gonna be tough to stop. Will he
put up fifty five touchdown passes again, I'm not sure,
but he's gonna have a great year. I have a
(01:07:24):
bet with Chris, I said he wouldn't throw over forty touchdowns.
It'll be an off year, right, that'll be forty touchdowns,
will be But I told Chris, But but we've seen
this before, Warren. We saw r G three had an
unbelievable rookie year. Colin Kaepernick was so good in the
beginning that Ron Jaworski went on national television said he
could wind up being the greatest quarterback whoever played. And
(01:07:46):
people adjust, I'm not saying that that he won't be
a good quarterback and he won't dominate, but but it's
not that easy. No, it isn't. And uh, like I said,
he's probably gonna step back some in the second year,
but who knows. He could. He could get better in
some areas, but maybe not have the numbers that he
had from last year. That's gonna be hard to duplicate.
(01:08:08):
The numbers that he passed for last year, over five
thousand yards, over fifty touchdown passes. If he has if
he has forty five touchdown passes this year, people are
gonna look at and say, yeah, he had a bad
year because he's down. You know, he does down passes,
which is crazy, but I think it all depends on
the production of your team, how much you guys win
(01:08:29):
compared to the year before. I think that's where it's
going to be compared. He's gonna have a big comparison
just trying to get back to the AFC Championship game,
because if he doesn't get back there, people are gonna
say it's an off year. So he's got a lot
of things riding this year as far as expectations. But
all you can do is go out there and play
the game as hard as you can. So Warren, my
(01:08:49):
partner here, Rob Parker, he saw Tom Brady jump off
a cliff this weekend. What his daughter I knew he
was gonna his career was falling off the cliff. Warren.
I've been saying it for a year, and that's where
I was going. Can you tell Rob Parker that he's
out of his mind or is there something to this year?
He jumped off a cliff in the ocean or something. Yeah,
he was on vacation with him and his daughter. He
(01:09:10):
grabbed a hand and jumped off a cliff into the water.
Thinks it's a sound for what's to come on the
All I'm gonna say, Warren is would have been waiting
for that for years, for about five or six years,
but we did hasn't happened. We did see the Super Bowl.
He looked like a forty one year old quarterback. Remember
he had less than two hundred yards, He had no
touchdowns in the Super Bowl. He had a pick, he
(01:09:31):
had a fumble. He didn't look that great. Let's be honest. No, Yeah,
he's His numbers are falling over the last couple of years,
and I think if you if you look at his
overall statistics, you can see that they are dwindling a
little bit. But but the thing about Tom is what
he does. He plays winning football at the right time
and that's what keeps him up there with the top
(01:09:51):
quarterbacks because his team is going to keep him around.
As long as the team keeps him around to be
close in football games, he's gonna find a way to
win those. That's that's what a great quarterback does. So
they've adjusted what they're doing in New England. You see
they drafted Sonny Michelle. Last year. They were running the
ball a lot more than they have since. Where would
they have been without him? Sonny Michelle was unbelievable. Yeah,
(01:10:14):
and that's why they drafted him up up at the
top of the draft last year. And I think they've
kind of changed the way they want to do things
in New England on that Tom is getting up there
in age, not not being as productive as a quarterback,
but he's still is going to make the right decisions
and he's still going to do the big things at
winning time, and that's what they think they can keep
riding on it. Hey Warren, we have one minute left.
(01:10:35):
I do want to get your take on this. Uh.
Roger Goodell's NFL commissioner with doling out punishments is all
over the place, you know, whether or not, whether they're
charges or not by police departments in law enforcement. And
the one guy gets uh no penalty, uh tyree kill
and then uh Karen Reid, right, he get he gets
(01:10:57):
six games And it's almost the same exact scenario. Should
should the NFL get out of the crime business as
far as trying to punish people and just let let
that take place by by law enforcement. You know, I
think the NFL does have to get involved in it's
in some capacity. I don't know if it has to
(01:11:17):
go to the length that they're doing right now, but
just because say you're you're not arrested by a policeman
or something like that doesn't mean and do anything wrong.
So I don't know, maybe their investigative process has to
be re examined, because, like you said, with Jaren re
getting six games and the entire killed not getting anything,
(01:11:37):
both players would never charged with anything by law enforcement.
You wonder where the big difference is and what the
discrepancy is between those two. But they're the ones that
are investigating these things, so they would have all those answers.
So maybe that's what needs to be looked at a
little bit harder how they investigate these these potential crimes.
All right, That is I was gonna say, the Hall
of Famer Warren Moon follow them on Twitter at w
(01:12:00):
Moon one Warren. We appreciate the time man, Thanks Warren,
thanks for having me on. Guys, great talking to you always.
Thank you. We got two of the all time greats.
They're gonna go head to head again potentially, and Rob
Parker could not care less. The Odd Couple eron Torres
filling in for Chris Brussard Fox Sports Radio. Be sure
(01:12:20):
to catch live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris
Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
This is the Odd Couple, Aaron Torres filling in for
Chris Brussard alongside, of course Rob Parker. This segment brought
(01:12:42):
to you by Truecar. When it comes to selling or
trading in your car, you need to make good choices.
And with Truecar, you've got a star on your roster.
So when you're ready to sell or trade in your car,
check out Truecar Disclaimer. True cash offer not available in
all areas. So Rob Parker, mister baseball, mister football, I
(01:13:05):
want to talk boxing, and I've covered the NBA's nineteen
eighty seven. I always have to tell Chris that one
up when I beat him on his NBA predictions. That
was just a humble brag, right, I mean, being a
Hall of Fame voter apparently isn't enough now now, that's good,
but I want him to know. And too many guys
in this business can talk baseball, football and basketball, that's true.
(01:13:25):
Can you talk boxing though? Because I used to be
the boxing writer at the Detroit Free Press back in
nineteen ninety three, Can you talk lacrosse though, because no,
I cannot talk lacros. Okay, we're not actually gonna talk
lacrosse in this segment, but mister boxing writer, I do
want to ask you Manny Pacquiao. He of course had
that that big decision win over Keith Thurman over the weekend.
(01:13:48):
He looked great, he looked great. He's another one in
his forties like your boy Tom Brady. No cliff for
that guy either, Manny Pakiow. We don't have the video
proof evidence like with Brady. Well, he's like he said,
he looked good on video on Saturday, and of course
Floyd Mayweather was in the arena, and since that night
there has been a lot of back and forth between
(01:14:10):
the two on social media, Floyd Mayweather basically saying that
every time Manny Pachiyow wants to make his career that
he puts Floyd Mayweather's name out, and of course Manny
Pachiyow saying, you're the one that just brought me up.
And so because of Manny Pachiyow's success against a much
younger Keith Thurman this weekend, there is a renewed talk
that we could get Mayweather Pacciow two Mayweather, of course
(01:14:35):
in twenty fourteen won a decision, and it would be
maybe the biggest flight of the year, maybe the biggest
fight in a couple of years. It seems to me, though,
you're not that excited about it. Asked me if I
would pay money to see Pacciow Mayweather rematch, Rob Parker,
would you pay money to see a Pakiow Mayweather rematch?
No way, no, how, I wouldn't rub give them two nickels.
(01:15:00):
First of all, they botched a first fight by waiting
five years too late, and everybody had to pay for
that garbage. It should have been pay as you exit,
and then people would have could have given them no
money or fifty cents for that garbage that we did see.
They ruined it. They made it. They made it, were
way too late at those guys fought in their prom
(01:15:20):
He probably would have seen a great fight, would you
admit it? It wasn't a fight that it could have
been had they done it when they when they should have.
It was not the best fight. But Manny pachyou came
out of it saying that he was hurt, that his
shoulder was messed up. He only landed something like eighty
one punches, and his argument was like, you never got
me in a hundred percent. Floyd Mayweather, he hasn't fought
(01:15:40):
since that McGregor fight two years ago, two summers ago.
He himself is in his forties. You made it. Tell me, man,
he couldn't just get that one punch in cold, couldn't
get that couldn't get that quick knock. You know how
many people when they went to watch that fight and
pay money, walked out of the venue wherever they were,
sports are, strip club, wherever they were. They walked out
(01:16:04):
of that fight with their hands held up because they
have been robbed. They got robbed for that fight. And
those guys made all that money and we saw a
washed up, good for nothing fight that should have been
a great fight. And all I'm saying is so now
you want me to pay for a rematch ten years later,
another five years later, past the fact, just because many
(01:16:27):
had a good night? Is that what you want me
to do? Now? Floyd won't fight? You have you watched
Floyd's fights? Boring? I get it, he's a defensive boxer.
I'm gonna pay a hundred dollars for what to watch?
What you're gonna get it? For good fight. They're gonna
open it up. I'm not saying you are. They're gonna
open it up, of course, not always never opened it up.
(01:16:50):
I don't want to see it. Then. I just think
that I'm not saying that we should run to the
pay per view set and plunk down our credit cards.
But I think that they're already starting with this on
social media. They're getting this thing going. And yeah, because
people have money to burn, people looking for a night out. Well,
you know, so there, what is it? Fast and Furious
(01:17:11):
twenty nine? They just came out with another movie. They
keep doing the same thing over and over. You know why,
because people are gullible. People want something to do. People
want something to spend their money on. They want to
go out and have a couple of pops and get
away from the wife and kids. So they love all
this stuff and they'll buy it even if it's bad.
So when everyone is out with their wife and kids
(01:17:32):
having a few pops, Rob Parker's just gonna be in
the corner watching Diamondbacks Mets by himself or no, I'll
be watching The Golden Girls rerun on Marathon on lifetop.
See that's my concern. These two guys are in their
golden years here forty plus, they would be that fight
would be dubbed the Golden Guys. That would be it.
I'm just listen. I think people are gonna pay for
(01:17:53):
the reason that you said. They want something to do
and the hype. They will get the hype going, which
is what the fight game is. So I don't think
there's any doubt that they're gonna it's gonna happen again
because there's money back to the Clippers coming up. Aaron
Torres in for Chris Brusard with Rob Parker. This is
Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions of
(01:18:18):
The Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays
at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific. Welcome in, It
is The Odd Couple, Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker and Yes,
Aaron Torres filling in for Chris Brusardo's on vacation this week.
Chris and I will be back together on Monday. Last week,
(01:18:38):
I had my vacation. This week Chris has his, but
Aaron doing a great job for a second straight. Now.
I we appreciate you, thank you. I appreciate you having
me us right and we're coming to you live from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes could save
you fifteen percent of more on car insurance. Visit Geico
dot com for a free ray quote. And we had
(01:19:01):
a lot of good stuff so far in the program.
Little Baseball Talk with Barry Bonds and the NBA today
was the Clippers introducing Paul George and of course Kawhi Lennard.
But there was also another story that caught my eye
and Steve Kerr, the coach of the Golden State Warriors,
was asked about the Anthony Davis demanding a trade with
(01:19:24):
a year and a half left on a contract that
he signed, and I guess they, you know, talked about
whether or not it was a good or bad thing
for the league, and he said it was bad. And
Rob g has the exact quote from Steve Kerr on this.
That's right, Steve Kerr talking on the Warriors Insider podcast.
He said, quote, it's a real problem that the league
(01:19:46):
has to address and the players have to be careful with.
When you sign on that dotted line, you owe your
effort and your play to the team, to the city,
to the fans, and then once that contract runs out,
it's completely within your rights to leave as a free agent,
but if he signed the contract, you should be bound
to that contract. If you come to an agreeing with
the team that Hay is probably for best for us
(01:20:07):
to part ways. That's one thing. But the Anthony Davis
stuff was really groundbreaking. Hopefully not a trend because it's
bad for the league. One hundred percent correct. Steve Kerr
is probably the straightest shooter in the NBA. I'm dead serious.
I'm talking about whenever there's some sort of controversial or
(01:20:27):
something going on, he takes everything head on. He's a
he's a realist. He's honest. When Kad got hurt, you know,
well that was he ducked. But what's saying that he
didn't think that he could get hurt. Now, remember it
was something about um, they said, you know, should he
have played? He said, well, you know, I can't answer.
That's by myers and the doctors, and no, that was
all right. That one he did size. Yeah, it's just
(01:20:49):
that one, do you know what I mean? But normally
he's out front and he's honest, and people can say, well,
players get dumped and traded all the time. I'll come
to players can't take their own careers in their own
hands because there's a league, and there's competitive balance, and
there's stuff that if you're going to in the last
(01:21:11):
part of your contracts, say when Carmelo Anthony was with
the Nuggets and he goes, Okay, my contract's up in
four months, I'm not resigning with you. If you guys
want to trade me to try to get something for me,
I'm telling you I'm not resigning with that's different. Thank
you for giving us the heads up. You're not going
to negotiate with us, we should do something else. I
get that he had a year and a half left
(01:21:34):
on a contract, all right, And when you do stuff
like this, this is what people don't understand. The reason
there's a draft, the reason that you sign a deal
for years and it's it's binding, is so that you
can have some sort of consistency. If it's just like
everybody should get to go do whatever they want, then
(01:21:56):
we don't even need a draft. You should be able
to come out of college, come out of Yukon, great school,
which you know except for the basketball scandals, but come
out of Yukon. I dare you talk about Genoa. I'm
just out there. I want to talk about Geno Arian
and you should come out and take your resume and
you're reel and say, hey, I played a Yukon. I'm
(01:22:17):
grew up as a Nick fan, or I grew up
as a Celtics fan. I want to play for the Celtic.
It's only because of the collective bargaining that you have
to go wherever they tell you to governs. And my
only point is it's not good because if you're New
Orleans or is this gonna happen to you in four
years with Zion? Are you gonna go through this where
there are cities and teams that people don't want to
(01:22:38):
play for that now will have this happen to them
time and time again because people are talked out of it.
Michael Jordan went to the Chicago Bulls. I got news
for you. The Bulls were awful, terrible. They had one
jack nothing. They would have laugh for Bulls, that's how
(01:22:58):
bad they were. Did he go on Chicago, I'm gonna
play for that sad sack organization. I don't even want
to go to the Lakers or the Knicks or whatever
it was back then. He played it out. He played
with the players, that were to air, and he wound
up turning it into a juggernaut, a dynasty, winning six championships,
(01:23:20):
not losing. Everybody doesn't have to do that. I'm not
saying I'm against free agency and people moving, and neither
Steve Kerry said that in this right, I'm not. I
am bothered by what Anthony Davis did with a year
and a half left. If he gave them the high
sign and said, hey, contracts up in three or four months,
(01:23:40):
I'm not going to resign. You want to move me,
I understand it. That's fair. But to do that and
put pressure and force an organization to have to trade
you and then and I blame New Orleans. If I
was a gem or the ownership, I would have never
traded with the Lakers. You would have had to go
to the Lakers somewhere else. And remember Green Bay did
(01:24:04):
the same exact thing to Brett Favre. Where did he
originally want to go? Do you remember Minnesota? In the division.
He wanted to go to Minnesota and they said no way, no,
how are we sending you to Minnesota? Where they sent
him to the AFC to play with the Jets, and
then he went on his own to the Vikings the
(01:24:24):
next year. Same thing with Kawhi Leonard. Oh, the Spurs
should just trade him to the Lakers. That's where he
wants to go and and all that know where they
trade him to NBA Siberia. And I just mean it
from because it's cold and ron with Drake like Christa,
I'm just saying they sent him all the way to
Toronto because they weren't going to give him to the Lakers.
(01:24:47):
Then we're gonna put Kawai in a situation. And why
reward a guy who's dumping on you or leaving you
in the lurch. I would never do that. I would
take a lesser trade to not give him exactly what
he wants if he's done me wrong. And that's the
only thing that I agree with Steve Kerr well. And
to bring it to another story today, I think that's
(01:25:08):
what's so scary about the Paul George situation because what
the Paul George situation said to me. And I think
Anthony Davis was bad enough two and a half year
or one and a half years, like you said, the
Paul George situation with two years left on his contract
a year after he signed it. The thunder made the playoffs.
When a guy like that is demanding a trade, that's
(01:25:28):
terrifying to me. If I'm an owner, if I'm a GM,
if I'm a coach, if I'm a role player, because
what that says is everyone is a free agent at
every time and it's just a matter of whether they're
going to cash in that chip or not. That to me,
I think it's terrifying what Paul George did. And by
the way, I'm with Steve car A one hundred percent.
Anthony Davis signed a five year, one hundred forty five
(01:25:50):
million dollar contract that he signed. It wasn't like he
was forced to. But when you signed that contract, it
comes with responsibility. They don't just hand you a check
for thirty million dollars a year without any responsibility. You
gotta be the face of the franchise. You gotta be
the leader. You gotta be there when things go bad.
I was thinking about this today. Rough. Imagine if you know,
(01:26:10):
a couple of weeks ago, I got married. Imagine if
thank you well, imagine if first time I got I
got in a fight with my now wife. I just said, yeah,
you know, it's not really going well. You know, it's
it's not going well, I'm gonna I'm just gonna go
over there now like, no, it doesn't. It doesn't feel
a minute. Did you have tapes in my marriage or okay,
I'm sorry. Oh so you're the Anthony Davis the marriage
(01:26:32):
the first first sign, first sign of adversity. Now you're
married for five years, but that's what I'm saying, Well,
longer than Anthony Davis, but that's what I'm saying. When
you sign a contract, there are obligations and you don't
just get to leave because the team isn't good or
it's not going the way. The thing that's crazy is
they were actually good. They had swept That's what I'm
Flortland the year before the playoff and the playoffs, and
(01:26:54):
they would they would moved at a squad. They had
a team which came out of nowhere all of a sudden.
He didn't want to be in New Orleans, which I
always think has to do with Lebron and and Clutch
Sports and those guys working behind the scenes to try
to help Lebron. It's always about Lebron, not about Anthony Davis. Agree,
I agree, and I but I to get back to
(01:27:14):
the Steve Kirk comments, I just think it is such
a bad precedent for these players. So i'd a thought today, Rob,
tell me if this is crazy, is if you publicly
demand a trade. This is because this is my thought, right,
all these guys, they want to get traded, they want
to go where they want, they want their check. That's
my problem. You're getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars
(01:27:34):
a week, tens of millions of dollars a year. Anthony
Davis didn't even play this year. This is my thought.
You publicly demand a trade, you automatically become deactivated and
you don't get paid. No, you can't. Well, the players
you un't want to go for it. But my point
is this is you can't. Just it's bad enough when
you are a guy that the team is counting on.
(01:27:56):
You demand a trade, but you still expect to sit
there and get paid. That's not how the real world works.
I agree with that, but it'd be hard to do that.
I'm just saying no, and I get it. My thing is,
I just wouldn't automatically trade somebody because I agree, and
I end up the hard part is, and I do
agree with I do believe in this. I don't want
somebody who doesn't want to be around like like you know,
(01:28:18):
like you see a situation with guys, they're like the
girl wants out of the relationship, but the guy won't
let it go, you know, like I don't want to
be with it. If she doesn't want to be with me,
why would you want to Why would you want to
try to make her stick around? Does that make any sense?
Of course? Yeah, But it's also to go back to
the marriage analogy, like at a certain point, you gotta
(01:28:39):
fight through stuff, you gotta fight through adversity. And that's
my issue with Anthony Davids. Like he said, they made
the playoffs last season. He's the face of the franchise.
He's supposed to be the reason. Paul George, you just
made the playoffs in okaysee, and now you want out
six months later. The only thing is I don't. I
don't I look at the Paul George a little different.
I really do. From the stampoint that he wasn't the
(01:29:01):
OKC face of the franchise even though they had signed him.
And I agree with that. And he's an older player
and he got an opportunity to go home and play
and now if he went to me, if he wanted
out and went to what y'all would consider a lateral move,
if he didn't have any ties to the Lakers or
Los Angeles, there's a there's a little bit more to
(01:29:24):
that in that he'd left Indiana. And then I applauded
him when he stated, okay, see, you remember how the
chance to come to the Lakers and he didn't do it,
and then he got into this situation where this is
presented to him. And I understand your point is well taken.
I look at Anthony Davis differently because Anthony was the face.
(01:29:44):
Anthony was the face of that franchise. They drafted him.
He was supposed to turn the franchise around. Paul George
was a player who came from somewhere else. My bigger
problem with Paul George, though, is you could say he
was the number two guy, Westbrook's face of the franchise.
The whole organization is soon he was the pin. You
pull the pin out and the you know, the everything deflates,
(01:30:05):
The whole organization falls apart. He's not the face of
the franchise, but you have to trade Russell Westbrook. At
that point you have to start over. Billy Donovan's not
gonna be back after this year. That's my problem with
Paul George. You can say he's not the face of
the franchise. It's still completely altered the entire organization. Yeah,
but Dave wouldn't want have decided to get rid of
Russell Westbrook after that. I mean, you can't keep rebuilding.
He's thirty years old. No, I'm just saying. I mean
(01:30:26):
they decided to pull the plug on the whole thing,
and hopefully people there got refunds and uh, you know
on season tickets, because I would be like, this is
not what I paid for. You don't want to pay
to see Chris Paul, No, I don't want to watch.
It's unbelievable, like where that is and where that franchise is.
And people are like, oh, yeah, they should buy him out.
They go to the Lakers. You're gonna buy it one
hundred and fifty six million or whatever it is that's
(01:30:48):
left on that deal. No, of course, not close, no way, no,
you know it. That ain't gonna happen. So I'm with
Steve Kerr. I thought the A D thing sets a
bad resident and I think that if I'm New Orleans.
I'm already. Is Zion gonna be poisoned after a year
or two when people say, hey, look what happened to you, Zion?
(01:31:10):
You know, if you would have gone to the Knicks,
that Jordan deal would have been a one hundred million
You know, you went to New Orleans, it was only
seventy five million. You don't think that that plays in
his head that he's losing money by being there, because
that's a perfect example. Don't you think he would have
made more money if he was on the Knicks. I
think he got basically the biggest rookie contract ever for
a shoe deal by a couple of shekels. I'm not
(01:31:32):
buying that you really believe that. I think you would
have gotten more for the Knicks. What do you have gotten?
That's my point? So why should you play in the
town where you're making less to do the same thing.
So you're saying this is the end of small markets
as we know. I don't if people keep doing this,
If this is the way we go, this is something
that's gonna have to be chanted. And what I think that,
if I'm the commissioner, the only way you can do
(01:31:52):
it is either limit how many max or star contracts
you can take, like you have to classify guys in
the groups and you can only have two what I
would call a classification. You would be deemed one ABC
and D contracts and you can only have two. So
(01:32:13):
the whole thing of Lebron A D and them trying
to get Kawhi would have never been able to go
because they already had two eight A deals. What if
you do see what I'm saying. Yeah, but what if
you drafted really well like the Warriors, and you want
to keep Steph Clay? Your own players are different? And
that's because that's the way they pay. I'm talking about
when you add players who were not drafted, because that's
how they even grandfather in. You could pay the teams
(01:32:34):
that draft players can pay them more than if you
go move. Every time Kawhi Leonard has moved, he lost
forty million dollars going from the Spurs to Toronto. Then
going from Toronto them up to the Clippers, he lost
fifty million. He lost ninety million dollars because he made
those two moves, so they penalize you. He would be
(01:32:56):
making ninety million more if you would have stayed it.
With the Spurs. So I think they have to do
something like that. So is it bad for the NBA
for guys like Anthony Davis and Paul George to force
trades away from their teams. Eight seven, seven, nine, nine,
six sixty three sixty nine is our phone number we
want to hear from you will continue with that conversation.
(01:33:18):

(01:35:08):
Our telephone number is eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
That's eight seven seven nine six three six nine. Want
to hear what you have to say? Steve Kerr said
on a podcast that what Anthony Davis did by asking
and forcing himself out of New Orleans with a trade
(01:35:29):
with a year and a half left on his contract.
Was bad for the NBA. I agree with him, and
you also agree with that part. But you think that
Paul George did the same thing. I think Paul George
in a lot of ways is even worse because you
look at the situation with Paul George. Oklahoma City made
the playoffs. He just signed a year ago. I mean,
Anthony Davis has been in New Orleans for seven years,
(01:35:51):
I think two playoff appearances, one playoff win. But they
drafted him. That's the hard part in it. And that's
where I think Steve's Carr is talking about is when
you can't hold onto your own players and people get drafted.
They're part of the organization, the face of the organization,
and then they don't want to bounce. It makes it
hard for teams like New Orleans. Now, they got lucky
because they got Zion and the NBA probably helped them
(01:36:13):
get them. Yeah right, sure, but imagine if had they
not gotten and they got the eighth or six pick. Sure,
it would have been bad for business. And that's why
you always wonder about the NBA and and the monkey
business behind the scenes because they needed that to jump
start the organization. Don't forget that New Orleans got the
(01:36:34):
number one pick the year after the Chris Paul trade.
Trump that he wanted out. Yep, absolutely all right, eight
seven seven ninety nine. Fox want to hear what you
have to say? John? In New York City. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up? John?
All right? Guys are all over the place, man, I mean, like,
I don't know Paul George is traded. Wait a minute,
(01:36:55):
are you sports talk radio police? Who are you? Identify yourself?
I know I'm not sports talk radio police, but I
am then I am the nonsense police, because you guys
will really ticket the nonsense tonight. Make your point, all right?
First first thing is how First of all, how can
you say how can you say that be that the
(01:37:17):
that the Paul George trade is all right, they demanded trade.
But then you say that the Anthony Davis I hear
from Lebron hated me because Anthony Davis was Paul George
drafted by OKAC. Hello, it does matter, in my opinion,
it matters. That's what you don't understand. There is a difference.
If Paul George would have been drafted by OKAC and
(01:37:40):
walked out on him as a face of the franchise,
I would agree it's a mistake and that's the difference.
Don't act like there's no difference between Anthony Davis and
Paul George. All right. Next next thing is, no, I
want you to acknowledge that is there a difference between
those two. No, I'm asking you what both of them
(01:38:01):
drafted by the same but by their organizations. All you're
looking at it, you're looking at it from the perspective
I'm looking at it from a business business perspective. You're
looking at it from a different perspective. Oklahoma made a decision.
Oklahoma made a bunch of portant decisions, and Oklahoma had
to get out of some of the important decisions to
kind of start over, to reclaim touch. Whether he's the
(01:38:22):
face of the franchise or whatever. That face of the
franchise stuff doesn't mean anything. No, No, John, I totally disagree.
And all the rules in the NBA are set up
to pay people who were drafted by a team more.
That's okay, that's the reason they've made those rules. So
to say, that it doesn't matter. It's not true. They've tried.
(01:38:42):
When Boogie Cousins was in Sacramento, he was in line
to get two h six. He couldn't have made that
money anywhere else, and Sacramento decided that they didn't want
to sign them and they trade them away. But that's
what they're trying to do, make it so that players
don't walk away from ninety fifty eighty million dollars and
stay with the teams they were drafted by. All that's
(01:39:03):
SMALLI point and go ahead. Aaron and Texas joined the
on couple of Fox Sports Radio. Hey, I kind of
agree with the last color hall a little bit all
over the place. But you guys do have a point
in stat for business. But you're talking about these guys
walking away from money. I mean they're doing it. Kahi
did it. You know, those guys that are walking away
(01:39:24):
from teams that are drafted them. So what that says
to me is that their motivation to play with other
players playing different markets is a stronger pool than the
incentive that the NBA builds into their contract to stay longer.
So I think it makes things more interesting. I know
that's the cliche, since all this movement has happened. But
on the other side of that, it makes you appreciate
(01:39:45):
more a guy like Dirk Tim Duncan you know Dwayne
Wade Johannas who says he wants to stay because there's
going to be guys that stay and they're gonna be
kind of put on a different type of pedestal when
they have success and they stay with their teams. So
it's bad for business, and it sucks that gms and
coaches lose their jobs because these guys, you know, make
(01:40:06):
a decision one year and switch the next. But it's
entertaining and I think at the end of the day,
that's the edge of the NBA having some of the
other leagues is that they're able to do this and
they have such a poor competitive balance. And everybody says
it because they got two or three really good teams,
and everybody else thinks if you're in one of those
cities or you're a fan of it is good. If
you're one of the other teams in NBA America that
(01:40:28):
can't win a championship, we just sort of we just
sort of warriors go to five straight championships. Ye hadn't
happened since the sixties. Yep, you think that's good? No,
and I listened. This is something that Arnie Spaniard and
I argue on our Saturday show. So, and speaking of that,
let's get the fire department on standby because our guy
at Fox Sports Radio teammate, Artie Spaniard, your partner on Saturdays,
(01:40:51):
is about to slide into the hot seat. That's coming
up next. But first be sure to catch live editions
of The Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker
eat days at seven pm Eastern, four pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app. It is
The Couple Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker and of course
Aaron Torres filling in for Chris Brusado's on vacation this weekend.
(01:41:14):
We're coming to you live from the Geico Fox Sports
Radio studios. It's easy to save fifteen percent of more
in carn shorts with Geico. Go to Geico dot com
or call eight hundred and nine four seven auto. The
only hard part figuring out which is easier. And now
this is time for the hot seat in your guy,
Arnie Spaniards Damn Son. The current temperature beyond Couple are
(01:41:39):
making it hot in here, damn hot. Time to sit
your butt down in the hot seat. That's right, it
is the hot seat. The r couple of Fox Sports Radio.
We do this every single Wednesday at nine thirty pm Easter.
We invite one of our Fox Sports teammates to get
into the squared circle with the tag team champions, and
(01:41:59):
this case Chris Brusar tagging in Aaron Torres to take
on his former teammate, the steak ingenious Arnie Spanniar Arnie,
how you feel in this evening? So I want to
apologize to Rob Parker right off the bat. Last time
I was on the hot seat, I smacked him around
him so bad. I left a bad cut over his eye.
That's why he has the scar. Shouldn't accept my apology.
(01:42:19):
And for what I did to Chris Brussard, I'm sorry
I knocked him silly like that, senseless. I know he
was laying on the ground. So my apologies for what
I did to you guys last time. Well you'll get
it back because none of that stuff happened the last time.
We would have got I want you with every Saturday
just talks nonsense. He just every from eight to eleven
PM Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and if you want
(01:42:40):
to holad Arnie, it's at Stinking Genius one. Let's do it.
I don't know if I like that much a pub there,
Rob Parker. I want to I want to see some heat.
I want to see some fire in your eyes. And
you always trying to plug his Twitter He sounded a
little scared, right really, you look a little nervous. Yeah,
to start the ducting points from them right now? Oh wow?
All right, guys, you know how this segment works. Arnie
(01:43:03):
Spanner has three very hot takes he's gonna defend against
both Rob Parker and Aaron Torres. Let's get started. Topic
number one. The Stinking Genius says that Tom Brady will
be playing on the last year of his contract, and
it's a slap in the face to Tom terrific. It
sends a messages his final year and there's a chance
he could in his career outside in New England. Arnie,
(01:43:24):
you got thirty seconds state your case. Do you really
need a distraction on this? First of all, I gotta
tell you, for what Tom Brady has done for that
organization and the Super Bowls he's won, it's not only
a slap in the face. It's like it's like they
spitting his eye like that. The guys the goat the
greatest of all times, and you're gonna let him come
in on just one year left on the contract. He
told you he wanted to play the forty five. You
(01:43:46):
give him a new three year deal. Everybody's happy. The
guy's going to the Super Bowl for the last five
years and he's three and one. I don't care if
you're eleven or one hundred and eleven, you get the
playoff my team. Stop it? What are you talking about?
You watch him in that Super Bowl. Tom Brady was old, decrepit.
We just saw the Instagram postway fell off the cliff.
(01:44:07):
He had his daughter with him instead of a football
I'll tell you, let's just be honest. He had you
know how many great players quarterbacks for his career. Elsewhere?
Joe Montana was four no from the forty nine ers.
They shuffled him off. How about Brett Farve with Green Bay?
He didn't finish there. Bade Manning didn't finish it in Indianapolis.
This is not new. Let me tell you. There's no
(01:44:29):
air apparent right now. There's not even a backup they
got rid of Garoppolo. There's nobody there. If you had
somebody in the waiting, I could maybe understand. But not
for a guy that taken you to the super Bowl
for the last five years and that's won three of them.
Plus Robert Kraft loves him like a son. For crying
out loud, what more do you want? Give him the
new contract because if you're old, I think that Dallas
(01:44:50):
Cowboys and the Open Raiders would love to have him
to finish out their career, his career in those cities.
In Las Vegas, they would love to have him. And
you know the how boys love to have him. Arnie.
Just because Fox Sports Radio lets you work with an
AARP card does not mean should every guy on this
roster through the years they send him packing. Whether it
(01:45:13):
is Randy Moss, whether it is Richard Seymour, Wes Welker.
This is the Patriots way. Tom Brady knows what he
signed up for, he knows how Belichick operates. He has
to go out there and perform. If he deserves to
play until forty five, he will play until forty five.
I agree with Rob Parker. He showed me a lot
of wear and tear in that Super Bowl last year.
Wow Wow wow Wow, he's being thrown in that round
(01:45:38):
of points taken away from the R couple. Aaron Tours
swinging below the belt punched him in the junk when
talking about his AARP. That's messed up. It's Nipanne. You
know that's that's terrible because we will know that Arnie
Spaniards pre show meal consists of decaf coffee, sodium free bacon,
(01:45:58):
and a Chess X one runes prunes too eats, a
lot of prunes. Are all right? Here we go the
hot seavr Cup. Arnie Spannier take number two. Arnie Spannier,
get this says that the New York Giants will go
worse to first next season. They are gonna win the
NFC East. Arnie, you got thirty seconds make your case. Well,
(01:46:18):
First of all, I think of the last fourteen years,
twenty one teams have gone from worse to first. So
it's quite common in the NFL for that to happen.
Look at the debacle that the Cowboys are in because
you know Zeke's gonna hold out, and you know you
don't believe in Dak. That guy's a five hundred quarterback
at best. They were lucky to win the division Philadelphia
and Carson Wentze's an injury away. And you don't have
Nick Foles this year to back up. You've got no
(01:46:39):
backup whatsoever. Don't even maybe talk about the Redskins. The
Giants had the most points in the division. They've got
the best running back with a good offensive line. Someone
top that one. I can easily see the Giants going
from worst to first in that division with all the
turmoil would all the other teams out there, It's not
even a case. Plus. Eli plays a little bit better, Yeah,
(01:47:01):
a little bit better. Is still terrible and below league average.
That's the problem, Eli Manning. You want to talk about
a guy that should have been put to pasture years ago.
It's not Tom Brady. It's Eli Manning. Even worse. You
know who his backup is, Daniel Jones, who lost to
Wake Forest last year. As Colin Cowherd said, I've been
to a lot of forest, Wake Forest ain't one of them.
(01:47:22):
Daniel Jones is terrible. Eli's terrible, and now there's no Eli.
I would say, or no Odell. I would say to
take the top off the defense. But Eli can't throw
the ball deep they're gonna pack the box. They're not
gonna let say Kwon Barkley run the ball. They're going
to struggle to mess. I'm glad there's no Odell there.
I don't need somebody kicking the net, taking away all
(01:47:42):
the attention, becoming in a distraction and being a cancer
in the locker room. I don't need it. And you
know what, the Giant fans don't need it. Plus Sunday's
told you, maybe you didn't hear me correctly. I said
the Giant scored the most points in the division. So
it's the offense that's not a problem. It's the defense
that was a problem. And when I say that Eli
needs to play just a little bit better, I just
mean just the smudge better like his brother did when
(01:48:04):
he won a Super Bowl. To go on out, No,
that division is up for grabs. And when I tell you,
they'll get it at twenty one teams in fourteen years.
Got it, Arnie, get your facts right. You said Odell
was a cancer. He's a Capricorn. He was born in January.
What are you talking about? And you know what Eli stinks.
He has stung for years now. Stop acting like some
(01:48:27):
magical lecture is gonna come and and and be able
to fix Elie. He can't get it done. You could
point to all the other problems that the Giants have,
and they have other problems, and you're the only guy
who doesn't want one of the greatest receivers ever with
a bad quarterback. You better have a receiver. Now, that
was a rough round there for the stinking genius. Yea
(01:48:51):
last topic that comedic genius. No, I guess I missed that.
It isn't a tiebreaker. The couple Fox Sports Radio Arnie
span here in the hot seat, the hottest take of
them all. We're sitting here in the guy called Fox
Sports Radio Studios in sunny southern California. Arnie Spaniel wants
to move them to Vermont. Arnie, you got thirty seconds
(01:49:13):
stay your case. Why wouldn't you want to move the
network out the Burlington Vermont. First of all, East Coast
is where you should be when you're watching sports. East
Coast is sports country too. We're one hour from Montreal.
Watch the New expos in the Canadians. We're three hours
from Boston. We're four hours from New York. We've got skiing,
we don't have traffic. We don't have smog, and we
(01:49:35):
don't have pretentious people driving around in the convertible BMW's
or their electric cars, or their Maserati's or the ferraris.
And guess what, when I go to the airport for
six fight, I leave it five fifteen. Vermont is that
even in the United States? Where is that? And you
have the nerve to talk about all sports and whatnot?
(01:49:56):
You know what we get to do on the West Coast.
We get to watch the entire game because it's not late.
We watch more sports than the East Coast people. Most
East Coast people have to go to bed because the
game still on at midnight. For us, it's nine o'clock.
We get to do something after the game. We know
sports better. We get to watch it all. And Vermont
(01:50:16):
doesn't count in the United States. Wow, you've ever gone
out for breakfast and come home to see the football games? No,
because the game start at ten am. You're just waking
up at like nine o'clock. How about waking up running
some errands, Go get some great breakfast with some of
that delicious Vermont and maple syrup. Remember that which I said,
And everybody back home, don't forget about that. When you're voting,
(01:50:38):
enjoy yourself a good breakfast, come back, then start enjoying
the pregame, get your fantasy football ready, and then at
one o'clock full at football. Arnie. First of all, the
only reason that you're in Vermont is because you got
kicked out of California Witness Protection program. Everybody knows that.
And you're making an argument for the East Coast. You're
not making an argument for Vermont. We're The only argument
(01:51:01):
is that you get free Ben and Jerry's every time
you show up to the factory, which is a fact.
You got three pints three points a week. That's the
only argument for the entire state of Vermont. There's one stoplight.
There's one Ben and Jerry's. I think you got a
Wendy's last week. That's not a place that we want
to live, that we want to do business. We're here
in La Lebron's down the street, Kawhis down the street.
(01:51:22):
I don't need Vermont hockey down the street. Wow, and
we all and stop me if I'm wrong, Rob g.
Vermont doesn't have the Martin Luther King Holiday? Is that correct?
And I don't know, Yeah, yeah, you don't. Case closed
case closed. Yeah right, that was a tough round to score,
went right down there to the final seconds. But I
(01:51:45):
guess Rob Parker forgot. We have an affiliate in Vermont.
Shout out the thirteen eighty Barny Spaniard for the win. Yea,
that is unbelievable. Rob, g you are for the betting.
They're gonna happen. You're on one O one three every
just good O one three in Burlington, Vermont. Out there,
I hope they have a pax and they hope they
have a big studio for moving the whole operation out there.
(01:52:07):
I hope I didn't leave a scar over your eye.
On the other side, Rob, I'm so unbelievable. And don't
forget to check out Arnie Spanier and of course Aaron
Towards every Saturday night eight to eleven pm Pacific right

Thanks guys, don't be a stranger. Speak to you later,
all right, we'll do that, Thank you, Arnie, no doubt
(01:52:29):
about him. More Odd Couple coming up next, Keep it locked.
While here on Fox Sports Radio, be sure to catch
live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and
Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific.
It's the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker
(01:52:50):
and yes, Aaron Torres, who's filled in very nicely for
Chris Bussard the last two nights. We appreciate you, Thank you.
I hope you had fun. I had a blast being
with you. I appreciate you having me. Man, no doubt
you said I got my softball uniform on inside the park.
Got a game tonight. I've been playing in a couple
of weeks because of the All Star Game and because
I was on vacation. So I need to get a
(01:53:11):
couple of knocks. Every Every game's an All Star game
when you're Parker. But Rob G thinks I need to
hit a home run or what I need to hit
a double or triple. Singles aren't good enough. Not when
you're playing in a Beer league softball league and you
claim to fame, you hit a squib, you know the game,
and you lay out a single, it doesn't count. It
was a hard hit, hard hit ball, right. It all
(01:53:34):
counts the same for the Banninggach home run or a
squip single. Man. I'm I'm I've been raking the last
before these to break the last couple. I was raking
I was getting two it tonight, and I do like
that you keep your statskay, Hey, if we're we're keeping
the score, don't you want to keep Yeah? Rob, do
you just playing go home and you don't even think
about what happened? I was you're telling me? No? I mean,
(01:53:56):
I just don't like getting text you know, at eleven
o'clock at night saying I went two for three with
two singles today, my ops is up around seven. I
never gave you the ops. I might have mentioned that
I had a couple of knocks because you were probably
ripping me on Twitter or Instagram, like did you get
any hits? Yes? I got hits. So I can't wait.
(01:54:19):
But we want to finish the show with Zion. Got
that new deal with Jordan. And this is the only
thing I'm gonna say. I'm not poo pooling seventy five
million over what is it, five years, so that's the
average of fifteen million a year. But Lebron James and
I'm just this is the thing. Lebron James got ninety
million for seven years, which is thirteen and my only
(01:54:42):
thing is shouldn't the money have gone way up, considering
Lebron James's deal was two thousand and three, so we're
talking about what sixteen years ago. Sure, it just seems
like the money doesn't that up to me. But what
am I missing? You're what you're missing is is that?
And you're the shoe guy, so I would think, you know,
this is the market for endorsers has crashed. Steph Curry,
(01:55:06):
he can't sell those those awful shoes. He can't get
them off the rack. There's not a lot of guys
that move merchandise. And so as the years have gone on,
even though money in basketball has gone up, salaries have
gone up, the shoe endorsement, you know, kind of you
know market has gone down. I mean, look, Marvin Bagley
and Deandreton were the top two picks last year. They
(01:55:27):
had to go to Puma because Puma was willing to overpay.
And so I only bring that up because even though
years have gone on, I think people companies are less
likely to invest in young players who were less proven.
Is that why Nike wouldn't let Lebron d give his
jersey number two a D because they had a warehouse
(01:55:47):
full of boxes of Lebron James Laker jerseys that they
didn't want to have to eat. You know what I mean,
because yeah, Bryce Harper's jersey outsold Lebron James's Laker jersey,
which I thought was shocking. Interesting because you am, I right,
You're one, like, yeah, interesting, I didn't know that Bryce
Harper's Philadelphia Phillies jersey outsoul Lebron's Laker jersey. I think
(01:56:10):
that's fascinating because you would think the Laker brand, by
itself and then Lebron, that should have been a blockbuster jersey. Sure,
I would think so. But you know the Laker, he's
still proving himself to the Lakers. The Phillies, it's been
a long time since they had a guy that caliber.
I know they had Ryan Howard all that stuff, but
you know, Harper in terms of star power appeal is
completely different animal, no doubt about it. My man, great job.
(01:56:33):
Thank you. Don't forget to download the podcast, give us

the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
